- Brad Peters: Welcome to the Recipe for Results. This is your podcast extra for certification in the hotel, restaurant, and bar industry, brought to you by HRB Universal. This is the brief on the upcoming Mobile Alabama SurfSafe Food Protection Manager course and exam. Hosted by HRB Universal on August 14, 2026, this ANSI accredited event is literally the exact credential you need to stay legally compliant and keep your customers safe. First, Let's talk about why you legally need to be there. The FDA Food Code, specifically section 2-102-12, has a strict mandate. The person in charge on duty must be a certified food protection manager. Think of this like your restaurant's driver's license. You literally cannot operate legally without someone holding this credential on shift. Second, knowing you need this credential brings us to the catch. The morning session, running from 8 45 a.m. to 1 p.m., is a fast-paced four-hour review. It's definitely not a comprehensive beginner class. I've got to warn you, there's no way you can just show up cold and expect to pass. Self-study using the HRB Universal Training Portal or their free mobile app is an absolute requirement before you even walk through the door. Finally, let's get into the test day logistics. For $179, you get the morning review and the exam. But hey, if you only need the test, just show up at 2 p.m. for $129. It's a fully electronic exam, so you can bring your own laptop or tablet, or they'll actually hand you an Amazon Fire tablet to use. Just remember, paper tests require 20 days' advance notice, so digital is for sure the way to go. Ultimately, this August 14th event is your fast-tracked industry-backed path to FDA compliance, provided you do your homework before taking a seat. So lock in your spot. Hit that training portal and go get that kitchen certified.
