- 0:00Speaker 1: Here on one leg of Alex, I have one question,
- 0:04Speaker 1: what the f did these professional leagues think was gonna happen?
- 0:11Speaker 2: Let me say that again.
- 0:12Speaker 3: You're on one leg up, Alex Sports.
- 0:14Speaker 1: What did these leagues MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA think was
- 0:22Speaker 1: gonna happen? When you started plastering fan duel and DraftKings
- 0:28Speaker 1: and all these betting sites all.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Over the place.
- 0:32Speaker 1: You're telling me you didn't think that players themselves would
- 0:37Speaker 1: be even more enritten, you know, in bolden to gamble.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Here on one leg up, Alex, I have this audio
- 0:45Speaker 1: to play from Jessica Tiesh thanks to Breaking.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Nine one one.
- 0:49Speaker 1: About today's developments, including Chauncey Billips and Terry Rose are.
- 0:57Speaker 4: In some instances players In some instance, players altered their
- 1:01Speaker 4: performance or took themselves out of games to make sure
- 1:04Speaker 4: that those bets paid out. One example occurred on March
- 1:08Speaker 4: twenty third, twenty twenty three, in Charlotte. Terry Rogier, an
- 1:13Speaker 4: NBA player now with the Miami Heat but at the
- 1:15Speaker 4: time playing for the Hornets, allegedly led others close to
- 1:19Speaker 4: him know that he planned to leave the game early
- 1:23Speaker 4: with a supposed injury. Using that information, members of the
- 1:27Speaker 4: group placed more than two hundred thousand dollars in wagers
- 1:29Speaker 4: on his under statistics. Rogier exited the game after just
- 1:34Speaker 4: nine minutes, and those bets paid out, generating tens of
- 1:38Speaker 4: thousands of dollars in profit. The proceeds were later delivered
- 1:42Speaker 4: to his home, where the group counted their cash. As
- 1:47Speaker 4: the NBA season tips off, his career is already benched,
- 1:51Speaker 4: not for injury but for integrity.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Now do I blame the leagues or these websites that
- 1:58Speaker 1: promote gambling and five dollars bets and stuff like that
- 2:03Speaker 1: for the fact that these players now have been known
- 2:06Speaker 1: to have ties to.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Crime families.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I don't know if I could blame them for that.
- 2:14Speaker 1: But if you're the NMLB, which there's another investigation going on,
- 2:17Speaker 1: because remember the Guardians had some players, including Emmanuel Class,
- 2:23Speaker 1: they were seeing just out the way they pitched the
- 2:26Speaker 1: ball that there was something wrong, maybe they were throwing
- 2:28Speaker 1: the pitch on purpose. Well, the Guardians have reportedly blocked
- 2:32Speaker 1: a manual Class from pitching in Venezuela League amid MLB
- 2:37Speaker 1: gambling investigation, So there's gonna be more down the pike
- 2:41Speaker 1: with that as well.
- 2:45Speaker 3: As well.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And I think of Carigly Calvin Ridley of the Falcons.
- 2:55Speaker 1: What did these leagues think was gonna happen when they
- 2:59Speaker 1: allowed betting into their.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Stadiums, onto the screens and households.
- 3:06Speaker 1: It's not just for the average Joe or the finance
- 3:09Speaker 1: bro or average Josephine.
- 3:11Speaker 3: There are women that bet out there too. What did
- 3:16Speaker 3: they think was gonna happen? That players are gonna be
- 3:21Speaker 3: very clean and squeaky clean?
- 3:23Speaker 1: No, this is like what happened with college base college
- 3:27Speaker 1: players before in the nil would they be punished for
- 3:31Speaker 1: getting benefits because the NCAA was making money.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Off their backs, So of course they.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Found side deals in different ways to get things done
- 3:40Speaker 1: that might have not been ethical.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And I'm not.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Saying normalized gambling in the leagues by the players.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I think that would be horrible.
- 3:50Speaker 1: But don't punish them and severely punish them because you're
- 3:55Speaker 1: the ones that let these damn outlets into, yes, into
- 4:01Speaker 1: these leagues and every other thing on TV is now
- 4:06Speaker 1: sponsored by fan dueler, DraftKings or all that other stuff.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But when when jess Tish says Jessica Tish, n Y
- 4:15Speaker 1: pet commissioner says that they're being benched for not injury,
- 4:21Speaker 1: but integrity. That's a powerful statement. And I still go
- 4:26Speaker 1: back to the fact that Pete Rose, although he's now
- 4:29Speaker 1: been sort of forgiven, I think is the term. I
- 4:34Speaker 1: don't think of that, but he's no longer been for
- 4:36Speaker 1: baseball posthumously.
- 4:39Speaker 2: But what was the first sports book?
- 4:41Speaker 3: What stadium was the first sports book that did something great?
- 4:47Speaker 1: American Ballpark, Cincinnati, home of mister Rose, and he still
- 4:53Speaker 1: wasn't in the Hall of Fame, and he's still was. Meanwhile,
- 4:57Speaker 1: they're the first stadium that ever got a sports book
- 5:00Speaker 1: in there. Now, I agree that if it is crime
- 5:07Speaker 1: ties to crime crime families, that's severe and horrible and
- 5:12Speaker 1: there should be arrests made. But the League coming down
- 5:16Speaker 1: on these people also is hilarious to me because let's
- 5:22Speaker 1: say it wasn't outside the law or outside of the
- 5:24Speaker 1: illegal sphere, but suspending a guy for gambling, now, call
- 5:33Speaker 1: me radical on this, folks, call me radical, And I
- 5:38Speaker 1: do feel like this is a radical statement. But if
- 5:42Speaker 1: they don't bet illegally, like you know, outside the boundaries
- 5:48Speaker 1: of the law, and if they don't have a crime.
- 5:52Speaker 3: Family they're attached to with all of this, let him
- 5:56Speaker 3: bet you.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Let this happen.
- 5:58Speaker 1: You open the door to this, let them place their
- 6:01Speaker 1: damn bets. Unfortunately, when you do that, I guess you
- 6:04Speaker 1: do affect the way they might pitch a baseball or
- 6:07Speaker 1: how many minutes they have on the court, or maybe
- 6:10Speaker 1: they miss a shot by on purpose or make a
- 6:13Speaker 1: shot on purpose.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I don't know. But today's scandal not only rocks.
- 6:22Speaker 3: The sports world, it brings up questions.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And my number one question to people today is did
- 6:31Speaker 1: anybody really think it was a good idea for these
- 6:36Speaker 1: leagues to open up betting in their own arenas, ballparks, rinks, whatever,
- 6:43Speaker 1: football stadiums, Because now you're thinking just over for the fans,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but it's gonna trickle down to the players, and it has.
- 6:53Speaker 1: This guy Class can't even pitch in the Venezuelan League
- 6:57Speaker 1: because he's now in Borld in this scan based since
- 7:03Speaker 1: July twenty sixth, and without him, the Guardians made the playoffs.
- 7:07Speaker 3: By the way, that's very interesting to note as well, the.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Guardians went on a run without Class.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I remember he's the guy that cost the Indian the
- 7:14Speaker 1: Guardians some wins last postseason.
- 7:16Speaker 2: How funny is that?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Well, he gets taken out on July twenty sixth and
- 7:23Speaker 1: they make the playoffs. You tell me, you tell me
- 7:26Speaker 1: how that works out and adds up. Right, Gambling in
- 7:36Speaker 1: sports should never have happened. But now that it's here,
- 7:42Speaker 1: be radical with it. And I hate saying that because
- 7:49Speaker 1: I don't want players to skimp on their performance to
- 7:52Speaker 1: make a bet, to pitch three baseballs out of his
- 7:56Speaker 1: own to make a bet work, or however many was.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I hate that.
- 8:03Speaker 1: That's so not integral integrity right there. But you know what,
- 8:10Speaker 1: the league has brought this on themselves. The leagues brought
- 8:14Speaker 1: this on themselves, and they should face the consequences of it.
- 8:20Speaker 1: If a player does not do anything illegal, but simply
- 8:25Speaker 1: plays a bet.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Then I don't think the leagues can help that anymore.
- 8:34Speaker 1: They literally open the floodgates for this, the floodgates for
- 8:39Speaker 1: this by allowing all these outlets to partake. Now, I
- 8:45Speaker 1: gotta talk to Speaker, and I love Spreaker, and we
- 8:48Speaker 1: just signed up for a year long partnership with them.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Thanks be to Godden.
- 8:54Speaker 2: But I know sometimes they roll.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Ads for these different gambling outlets before and after my show,
- 9:04Speaker 1: and I wonder why.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I guess because I.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Do sports, So they target the.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Audience with it. But it doesn't help what I'm trying
- 9:12Speaker 3: to say here. It doesn't help.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That I have these ads and I full disclasure make
- 9:27Speaker 1: money from the ads.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Thanks be to God.
- 9:29Speaker 1: When you play it, I do get an impression which helps,
- 9:33Speaker 1: or a few impressions which helps me get those cents.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Into dollars and then more and payoffs.
- 9:42Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is what I'm saying is.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I hope we can change out the ads so they're
- 9:51Speaker 1: not always about gambling, because I don't think it's a
- 9:55Speaker 1: good look.
- 9:57Speaker 3: For these leagues to not only partner with the gambling.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Sites, uh, but then but then punish a guy for
- 10:13Speaker 1: placing a bet.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Now, I think anybody who plays a bet on their.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Own performance.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Is just unethical, and I just think it's gross. You
- 10:26Speaker 1: want to affect your own performance to make more money.
- 10:29Speaker 2: You're already making millions of dollars for God's sakes.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And then I think back to all the boxers that
- 10:38Speaker 1: if they didn't throw a match would get beat up
- 10:41Speaker 1: by the mob If these guys did not throw matches
- 10:45Speaker 1: or do not win, they would be beat up by
- 10:47Speaker 1: the mobsters for not making the payout happen. There were
- 10:52Speaker 1: pressures to take dives in the ring to make the money,
- 10:57Speaker 1: and these.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Boxers were in on it. It's a known fact.
- 11:05Speaker 1: And instead of veering away from all of that, we
- 11:07Speaker 1: have said, welcome in it again over the.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Last five, six, seven years.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And so no, if a player wants to bet and
- 11:19Speaker 1: stupidly make his stats worse for himself, he shouldn't face
- 11:24Speaker 1: consequence anymore, because.
- 11:25Speaker 3: You know why the leagues had this coming.
- 11:30Speaker 2: The leagues had this coming.
- 11:34Speaker 1: And I don't know what the solution is now because
- 11:37Speaker 1: you're not gonna get rid of all the advertising these
- 11:41Speaker 1: gambling sites do, but you certainly can.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Make a statement by moving and removing.
- 11:58Speaker 1: The sportsbooks, the arenas out of the stadiums.
- 12:01Speaker 2: That's where we begin. That's where we begin if we
- 12:06Speaker 2: want to clean this up.
- 12:09Speaker 1: But don't blame the players for something they're trying to
- 12:12Speaker 1: do to because they can.
- 12:13Speaker 3: They feel embolded now, folks, all because.
- 12:20Speaker 1: The leagues decide to go down the gambling route. And
- 12:25Speaker 1: now it's a travesty and a tragedy all in one. Now,
- 12:32Speaker 1: every flop that Lebron James does, there's gonna be a
- 12:35Speaker 1: question about whether he did that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: To make money.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Right, We're gonna have to think that way. Now, Oh,
- 12:41Speaker 1: did he get paid to do that flop? Or did
- 12:43Speaker 1: he get paid to everybody he never missed a free throw.
- 12:46Speaker 2: But you get my point.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You get my point.
- 12:52Speaker 1: As a sports fan today, you should be infuriated from
- 12:55Speaker 1: the very foundation of where all of these arrests, all
- 12:59Speaker 1: of these gambling, all of these things were accepted by
- 13:05Speaker 1: just the allowance of gambling into the leagues. So the
- 13:11Speaker 1: leagues cannot say they saw this coming. They didn't see
- 13:13Speaker 1: this coming, and the leagues therefore should not, I mean
- 13:18Speaker 1: should not be heavy on the consequences. Not in this case,
- 13:27Speaker 1: because they brought on themselves and they do not have
- 13:32Speaker 1: one leg up for the integrity of the sport when
- 13:35Speaker 1: they told gambling websites.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Come on in, we'll partner together.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Outrageous, outrageous, here on one leg up, alex Sports
