- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for Kids. Thank
- 0:10Speaker 1: you for joining me today as we spend time with
- 0:13Speaker 1: our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best
- 0:17Speaker 1: way to start your day. Let's begin our time together
- 0:21Speaker 1: praising Him.
- 0:26Speaker 2: William Bradbury, a very famous and influential music composer... was
- 0:30Speaker 2: the one who took the poem that William Walford had
- 0:32Speaker 2: composed and turned it into a song. He wrote the
- 0:35Speaker 2: music for it. Bradbury helped Fanny Crosby to take all
- 0:38Speaker 2: of her poems and turn them into hymns. He taught
- 0:41Speaker 2: Philip Bliss and helped to mentor him. He also formed
- 0:45Speaker 2: a company to build and sell pianos. He published 60
- 0:48Speaker 2: songbooks that were well used throughout the United States.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Sweet are our friends.
- 1:12Speaker 4: And fits me at my Father's throne, make all my
- 1:18Speaker 4: wants and wishes known. In seasons of distress and grief,
- 1:25Speaker 4: my soul.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Has often found relief, and oft escapes the tempter's snare
- 1:35Speaker 3: by the.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Return sweet hour of prayer. Sweet hour of.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Prayer, sweet hour of prayer, may I thy consolation share.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Till from Mount.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Pisgah's lovely height, I view my home and take my flight.
- 2:02Speaker 3: whole flesh arise to seize the everlasting Christ, and shout
- 2:10Speaker 3: while passing through the air, farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Hi, boys and girls. We're memorizing the Lord's Prayer. It's
- 2:35Speaker 1: a special prayer that Jesus taught to his disciples. And
- 2:40Speaker 1: so let's just go through it right now. It's actually
- 2:43Speaker 1: our memory verse for this week. I'm going to read
- 2:46Speaker 1: through the whole section, the whole prayer, and then we'll
- 2:50Speaker 1: work on that first verse, and then we'll get into
- 2:52Speaker 1: our lesson, okay? Here we go. Our Father, which art
- 2:57Speaker 1: in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
- 3:03Speaker 1: will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
- 3:14Speaker 1: our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us
- 3:19Speaker 1: not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine
- 3:25Speaker 1: is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Good job. All right, let's go over the first verse
- 3:36Speaker 1: that we started working on last time. Our Father which
- 3:40Speaker 1: art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Can you say
- 3:45Speaker 1: it with me? Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed
- 3:50Speaker 1: be thy name. Good job. One more time. Our Father
- 3:56Speaker 1: which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. All right,
- 4:01Speaker 1: now let's start working on the next verse. Thy kingdom come,
- 4:07Speaker 1: thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'll say that again. Thy kingdom come, thy will be
- 4:18Speaker 1: done in earth as it is in heaven. Can you
- 4:23Speaker 1: say it with me? Thy kingdom come, thy will be
- 4:27Speaker 1: done in earth One more time. Good. We're going to
- 4:43Speaker 1: be practicing this throughout the week so that by Friday,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you will have it all memorized. But first, before we
- 4:50Speaker 1: go to our Bible lesson, let's bow our heads in prayer.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Dear Lord, we pray that your spirit will be with
- 4:56Speaker 1: us as we talk some more about prayer. Help us
- 5:00Speaker 1: to learn more about the importance of prayer and how
- 5:03Speaker 1: wonderful it is to have a relationship with you. In
- 5:06Speaker 1: Jesus' name, amen. What is praying? If someone were to
- 5:12Speaker 1: ask you that question, what would you say? What is praying?
- 5:16Speaker 5: Hmm.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You'd probably say that praying is talking to God, the Father,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and to Jesus. And that's right. In fact, it is
- 5:26Speaker 1: better than talking to our very best friend on earth.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Jesus loved talking to his Father. When Jesus was here
- 5:33Speaker 1: on earth, he would spend, sometimes, all night in prayer.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Even though he had had a very busy day, while
- 5:41Speaker 1: all the others were sleeping, Jesus would slip away and
- 5:45Speaker 1: spend time praying in a quiet place. Sometimes he would
- 5:51Speaker 1: pray all night long, and he always felt rested after
- 5:56Speaker 1: he did that. At one of our church's, We're going
- 5:59Speaker 1: to be having an all-night prayer meeting. I personally have
- 6:02Speaker 1: never joined in an all-night prayer meeting, so it'll be
- 6:06Speaker 1: interesting to see how that goes. Jesus would pray all night,
- 6:10Speaker 1: and when morning would come, he would feel rested. The
- 6:14Speaker 1: Jews were taught that praying was very, very important, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: it is. But Jesus didn't pray the way that most
- 6:21Speaker 1: of them did. The Pharisees prayed at a certain time
- 6:25Speaker 1: every day, and they would pray so that everyone could
- 6:28Speaker 1: see them and hear them and think that, oh, they
- 6:32Speaker 1: are so holy. When it was time to pray, they
- 6:35Speaker 1: would stop right where they were and pray out loud.
- 6:38Speaker 1: People could hear the prayers, and oftentimes the Pharisees would
- 6:43Speaker 1: pray boastful prayers. One day when Jesus' disciples heard him praying,
- 6:49Speaker 1: what did one of them ask him to do? Let's
- 6:52Speaker 1: turn in our Bibles to Luke chapter 11, verse 1. Matthew, Mark, Luke.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Those are the first few books in the New Testament.
- 7:04Speaker 1: The Bible is divided in two parts. The Old Testament
- 7:08Speaker 1: is in the first part of the Bible. That starts
- 7:10Speaker 1: with Genesis and goes all the way through to the
- 7:13Speaker 1: different prophets and when Israel was coming back from their
- 7:19Speaker 1: captivity in Babylon. And then you have the New Testament,
- 7:24Speaker 1: which starts with the stories of Jesus and goes through
- 7:28Speaker 1: the different acts of the apostles and then all the
- 7:31Speaker 1: letters that Paul and some of the other apostles that
- 7:34Speaker 1: they would write to the churches to encourage them. And
- 7:38Speaker 1: they can encourage us too. So we're going to Luke
- 7:41Speaker 1: chapter 11. I'm almost there. I got distracted talking. Luke
- 7:47Speaker 1: chapter 11 and then verse 1. Luke 11, verse 1.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Here's what it says.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Now it came to pass, as he was praying in
- 7:58Speaker 6: a certain place, when he seized, that one of his
- 8:01Speaker 6: disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, as
- 8:06Speaker 6: John also taught his disciples.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He had stopped praying, and that's when one of the disciples,
- 8:12Speaker 1: we don't know who, but they came to him and said,
- 8:15Speaker 1: Teach us to pray, please, Lord. And Jesus was happy
- 8:19Speaker 1: to teach them to pray. We don't always have to
- 8:22Speaker 1: say the exact words of the prayer that we're learning
- 8:25Speaker 1: and we're memorizing, but it's important to learn them because
- 8:29Speaker 1: they help us to remember what to talk to God
- 8:32Speaker 1: about when we pray. So let's read through the words.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We've started memorizing them, haven't we? Let's go through it
- 8:40Speaker 1: and just review it right now. Are you ready? Our Father,
- 8:44Speaker 1: which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
- 8:52Speaker 1: thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us
- 9:03Speaker 1: our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not
- 9:08Speaker 1: into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is
- 9:13Speaker 1: the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Would you like to understand what those words mean? This week,
- 9:24Speaker 1: we're going to talk about, we're going to look at
- 9:26Speaker 1: each little phrase and learn about what those words mean
- 9:31Speaker 1: and how it can help us in our daily lives.
- 9:35Speaker 1: But you'll have to come back next time. Let's bow
- 9:39Speaker 1: our heads in prayer. Lord, you are our Father. You
- 9:43Speaker 1: love us so much. Be with us today as we
- 9:47Speaker 1: go about our work and our play. Maybe as we
- 9:50Speaker 1: get ready for bed, if some kids listen to this
- 9:52Speaker 1: before they go to bed. Help us to have a
- 9:56Speaker 1: deep connection with you. In Jesus' name, amen.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Matthew 6, 9-13 Our Father in heaven.
- 10:13Speaker 7: Hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,
- 10:20Speaker 7: on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
- 10:25Speaker 7: day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as
- 10:32Speaker 7: we forgive our debtors, and do not feed us into temptation.
- 10:42Speaker 7: but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is
- 10:47Speaker 7: the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Amen.
- 10:58Speaker 7: Matthew chapter 6, verses 9 through 13.
