- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars
- 0:25Speaker 2: Alliance Patriot Edition. I should we should be anacular or yeah,
- 0:34Speaker 2: well I guess yeah, I guess these will eventually hit
- 0:38Speaker 2: the the regular podcast feed.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah, because we're recording this so you can go on vacation.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Yes, yes, uh for all of our Patreon exclusive uh
- 0:53Speaker 2: uh listeners. Currently you were getting this beforehand. We are
- 1:00Speaker 2: recording this a little in advance so that way we
- 1:04Speaker 2: do have something to put on the podcast feeds as
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm going on vacation first week of September, so we
- 1:15Speaker 2: will be talking about and this is actually gonna be
- 1:17Speaker 2: two separate episodes, so listeners, you will be able to
- 1:23Speaker 2: listen to the next episode almost immediately after, I believe
- 1:29Speaker 2: is what we plan. We are gonna be talking about
- 1:34Speaker 2: dispatches from the Occlusion Zone on this episode and then
- 1:40Speaker 2: Echoes of Fear in the next. Of course, this is
- 1:43Speaker 2: still the High Republic Adventures. We are still lingering inside
- 1:51Speaker 2: of the High Republic Phase three. There's still a lot
- 1:56Speaker 2: of collections that are still needing to be released.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yep. I think there's High Republic Adventures Volume four, Volume five,
- 2:06Speaker 3: and then High Republic Fear of the Jedi, which will
- 2:12Speaker 3: have the four issues from that plus the Beacon finale episode,
- 2:17Speaker 3: which is where he leaves.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The Jedi order.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yes, yes, uh so we will be talking about dispatches first.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Now I actually really dug this a lot more than
- 2:34Speaker 2: I thought I was going to. We have uh do
- 2:41Speaker 2: we have a page that has everybody hold on.
- 2:45Speaker 3: H Yes, it's at the beginning.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yes, really.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Daniel jose Older rights issues one in three, Alyssa Wong
- 2:56Speaker 3: rates issue number two, Cavin Scott rates issue number four,
- 3:02Speaker 3: and I believe the rest of this is in order
- 3:05Speaker 3: by who did it so? Illustrated by Paris Allen, Valeria Fallucia,
- 3:15Speaker 3: Lucas maran Gun and Vincenzo Riccardi, colored by Michael Attiya,
- 3:24Speaker 3: Dan Jackson and Vincenzo Riccardi, and then lettered by Comic
- 3:30Speaker 3: Crafts Tyler Smith and Jimmy Bettan Court, and the cover
- 3:36Speaker 3: art is by High Republic Guru fan artists. I think
- 3:42Speaker 3: this is his second cover for the initiative. It's Jake
- 3:45Speaker 3: Bartok so that is the main cover on the trade paperback.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I am so glad Jake has gotten his debut in
- 3:56Speaker 2: comments he if I think as long as you've been
- 4:01Speaker 2: in the social media space for Star Wars, you have
- 4:05Speaker 2: seen his art at least once or twice. He has
- 4:09Speaker 2: done so much fan art in the past, and for
- 4:13Speaker 2: him to uh get into comics and be able to
- 4:18Speaker 2: have these covers is absolutely amazing and I'm really proud of.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Him because his art is so good.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah. He the the ones that I started to see
- 4:29Speaker 2: from him first were his like Nights of the Yea
- 4:36Speaker 2: of the Republic. Yeah, the medieval Nights of the Republic,
- 4:43Speaker 2: where all of these swords had like a glowing shade
- 4:46Speaker 2: of blue or whatever color the sabers were meant to
- 4:51Speaker 2: be for those characters. Really cool stuff. But the first
- 4:57Speaker 2: story of co like we said, written by Danie jose Older,
- 5:03Speaker 2: this is what really starts off the because this is
- 5:09Speaker 2: more of an anthology type of story.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Or a book basically, and this is what we had
- 5:17Speaker 3: talked about kind of to start in Trials of the Jedi.
- 5:20Speaker 3: I had read this by that point, but you had
- 5:24Speaker 3: not read it, so I kind have had that context
- 5:27Speaker 3: going into it. But Lzar basically sent out the easy
- 5:33Speaker 3: droids from the Phase two initiative out into the storm
- 5:41Speaker 3: Wall and just to where they knew that Jedi and
- 5:45Speaker 3: their allies were. Yeah, so like one there's two that
- 5:49Speaker 3: go to Eriadu, one for Crash and her team and
- 5:53Speaker 3: then the other for the Jedi team.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And also I want to go ahead and put it
- 6:00Speaker 2: out there for anybody who has not yet read Trials
- 6:04Speaker 2: of the Jedi, highly recommend that you read these two
- 6:09Speaker 2: stories that we were talking about, Dispatches and Echoes of Fear,
- 6:13Speaker 2: because because they put a lot more context into what
- 6:18Speaker 2: is actually being done in Trials that I was just like, like,
- 6:22Speaker 2: like for me as somebody who is always consuming content
- 6:27Speaker 2: and always kind of just like saying, okay, that is
- 6:32Speaker 2: because it just is you know, uh, this actually gives
- 6:36Speaker 2: reason for the things that happen in the book.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Because I remember on the podcast you asked and
- 6:42Speaker 3: you were like, how did they know how to get
- 6:44Speaker 3: past the cloud the storm around Sofos? Yes, And I
- 6:54Speaker 3: was like, you should have read Dispatches.
- 6:59Speaker 2: There is a lot in here that I actually really appreciate.
- 7:05Speaker 2: One thing that I do not appreciate is literally the
- 7:09Speaker 2: very first page of this book, Katie, I cannot tell
- 7:14Speaker 2: you how many times l'sar Man's ethnicity has been altered
- 7:22Speaker 2: throughout the High Republic. First he was white, then he
- 7:26Speaker 2: was black, then he was back to white. Now he's
- 7:28Speaker 2: either Puerto Rican or Mexican. Like I, I am so confused.
- 7:34Speaker 3: So at least here he looks more ethnic than he
- 7:40Speaker 3: has in some Yes, yes, I do agree that lsar
- 7:46Speaker 3: Man has gone back and forth between white and person
- 7:49Speaker 3: of color like the and.
- 7:50Speaker 2: The thing is, every other character has not had this issue.
- 7:56Speaker 2: There has not been like because because you can have
- 8:02Speaker 2: take something outside of Star Wars, for instance, Spider Man
- 8:07Speaker 2: or Superman or Batman. There are different artists that draw
- 8:13Speaker 2: Peter Parker, Clark Kent, and Bruce Wayne different. Katie is
- 8:20Speaker 2: not excited. I think she's trying to kill a bug. Sorry,
- 8:23Speaker 2: She's like, yeah, yes, preach, play preach. So there's so
- 8:29Speaker 2: there's so many different ways to interpret the way a
- 8:34Speaker 2: character is. But when you look throughout phase one all
- 8:40Speaker 2: the way through the end of Phase three, because phase
- 8:44Speaker 2: one or phase three is the continuation of Phase one,
- 8:49Speaker 2: L's arm Man is the only character that has had
- 8:56Speaker 2: dramatic changes in the way he looks. Yep, you look
- 9:02Speaker 2: at Avar Chris. No matter who draws Avar Chris, you
- 9:07Speaker 2: know that it's Avar Chris. When I saw this panel,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I was like, who was that? And then the person,
- 9:13Speaker 2: the green alien dude said, uh what he says something
- 9:19Speaker 2: specific to He says, uh, oh, either way, Master LSAR,
- 9:26Speaker 2: And I'm like, what how is that LSAR man? Like,
- 9:29Speaker 2: it doesn't look like LSAR man? What's Yeah?
- 9:33Speaker 3: And now I think he looks pretty consistent to what
- 9:39Speaker 3: he looks like in the Higher Republican Adventures in phase three,
- 9:43Speaker 3: So this LSAR is pretty consistent across Higher Republic Adventures
- 9:48Speaker 3: at least.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But yeah, Like, but I will say els are in
- 9:57Speaker 2: the first issue versus the second issue. I still think
- 10:02Speaker 2: like that is still like different.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Let me see which there's like so.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Uh the very first page is where you see like
- 10:17Speaker 2: Mexican ls are Yeah, and then the very last page
- 10:24Speaker 2: uh uh ninety five through ninety six. Uh, he looks
- 10:35Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe it's because he looks a little
- 10:37Speaker 2: bit cleaner here, and I don't know it did like
- 10:43Speaker 2: he he I feel like he looks a little different comparatively.
- 10:47Speaker 3: My trade doesn't have page numbers.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm just gonna turn my phone. It's this
- 10:55Speaker 2: party at the end.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, not the second issue. I was looking the second issue.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, No, no, no, at the very last story.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I could see him looking different here. I feel
- 11:10Speaker 3: like he looks close Like this is just like artistic interpretation.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Yes, yes, which, by the way, I just want to
- 11:19Speaker 2: make that comment. Now, last issue gorgeous. I don't know
- 11:24Speaker 2: what it is as as wild as all the colors are,
- 11:27Speaker 2: and it can be kind of like an eyesore for
- 11:30Speaker 2: some perfection when it comes to like all of these
- 11:34Speaker 2: books altogether, like this is what really puts the icing
- 11:37Speaker 2: on the cake. Yeah, but I digress. Moving back to
- 11:42Speaker 2: the beginning of this book, Like Katie said, there are
- 11:47Speaker 2: four issues in here. Very first page sets the story
- 11:52Speaker 2: up for these e extroids to be flying throughout the
- 11:57Speaker 2: occlusion zone and we get to see Ariadu. We get
- 12:04Speaker 2: to see in the other stories. Uh uh what I
- 12:14Speaker 2: guess it is still Ayadu. It's it's still Iriyadu.
- 12:17Speaker 3: We Haveadu for the first two issues, and then Bryant
- 12:24Speaker 3: Tarnum for the third issue, and then Doma for the
- 12:28Speaker 3: fourth issue.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Yes, so kind of all over the place within the
- 12:35Speaker 2: occlusion zone. But the first story, Katie, how did you
- 12:41Speaker 2: feel about this story? And, like I said, puts a
- 12:45Speaker 2: lot more context into where characters are for trials and
- 12:50Speaker 2: things like that. There's a little bit of some what's
- 12:57Speaker 2: the phrasing for its exposition for other stories within the
- 13:04Speaker 2: same thing here.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Because like the first two issues are basically setting up
- 13:10Speaker 3: for the Battle of Ariadu, which takes place. We'll be
- 13:15Speaker 3: talking about that the week before this episode comes out
- 13:20Speaker 3: on feeds, so the end of August. It's in that volume.
- 13:27Speaker 3: But this is basically giant set up, kind of showing
- 13:30Speaker 3: you where driggets loyalties lie, and then kind of oh, okay.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Issue one is basically set up for the Battle of
- 13:42Speaker 3: Ariadu and showing okay, here's why the Tarkans have been
- 13:46Speaker 3: so iffy in the Higher Republic Adventures. Issue number two
- 13:51Speaker 3: really sets up for the Battle of aria Do by
- 13:54Speaker 3: showcasing drigg It's loyalties and that she really just wants
- 13:59Speaker 3: to get up a message out that hey, if you
- 14:02Speaker 3: say for all of the Republic, the entire Republic should matter.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's what I was gonna say. Do you
- 14:10Speaker 2: want to just talk about the first two issues together?
- 14:13Speaker 2: They are they are so close knit. So of course
- 14:19Speaker 2: in the first issue we are following most of the
- 14:22Speaker 2: same characters that we normally follow in the High Republic
- 14:26Speaker 2: Adventures ongoing story, and we are, of course getting all
- 14:35Speaker 2: the tension of the city of Eager Gattu, like, oh,
- 14:40Speaker 2: it's dangerous. We're not sure who is on what side.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Everybody's kind of just keeping to themselves, but tensions are high.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I like this tone. I liked the tone of the book.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It really does set up that like, oh shit, like
- 14:56Speaker 2: shit's really about to hit the fan. I did like that.
- 15:02Speaker 2: What did you feel about this? Like I guess folklore
- 15:08Speaker 2: story and like what it really ended up being because
- 15:13Speaker 2: it I don't believe there is actually a creature that
- 15:18Speaker 2: spews fire. I think it's actually just a deterrent to
- 15:23Speaker 2: keep people away from what we see at the very
- 15:27Speaker 2: end of that first issue.
- 15:28Speaker 4: All right, y'all, we're gonna hit our first ad break
- 15:31Speaker 4: and we will be right back in three two one.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Yeah. So I enjoyed that folklore story because I felt
- 15:41Speaker 3: like it drew a lot from our world. Like, don't
- 15:45Speaker 3: get me wrong, like not like the stories don't draw
- 15:48Speaker 3: from our one a lot, but like just like mythology
- 15:51Speaker 3: and legends, like I love getting that and we don't
- 15:55Speaker 3: get a ton of it in Star Wars. So kind
- 15:58Speaker 3: of having that build up for Ariyadu has been super cool,
- 16:04Speaker 3: And really this one just grew Ariadu so much in
- 16:08Speaker 3: my book, because the Targans are protecting this power source
- 16:15Speaker 3: basically for half of ari YadA, and if this power
- 16:18Speaker 3: source goes up in flames, so does half of your Riyadu.
- 16:22Speaker 2: What I actually think is really really clever is the
- 16:27Speaker 2: fact that this kind of gives a plot hole that
- 16:33Speaker 2: I had in Trials of the Jedi reasoning for actually
- 16:38Speaker 2: being what it is. Yeah, yeah, So in so this
- 16:42Speaker 2: is of course a tiny spoiler for Trials of the Jedi.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I think enough time has passed we can talk about that.
- 16:50Speaker 2: So within Eriadu, in the Battle of Ariadu and like
- 16:57Speaker 2: all of that is about to happen, we find out
- 17:01Speaker 2: that there is a very large military source within the
- 17:05Speaker 2: caverns outside of the city yep. And you're like, oh, well,
- 17:12Speaker 2: how did they not know that there is a huge
- 17:15Speaker 2: military force. There is speculation, but there was never confirmation
- 17:19Speaker 2: because nobody went down there. The folklore is the reason
- 17:23Speaker 2: why nobody goes down there.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yep.
- 17:26Speaker 2: There is an actual reason now for why nobody went
- 17:32Speaker 2: down there in that book is because of this story
- 17:35Speaker 2: here in this comic that now makes sense to me,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and I'm like, okay, I can now throw away this, like,
- 17:44Speaker 2: oh well, that doesn't really make sense, but I'll make
- 17:46Speaker 2: it work anyway now. Because people are afraid of what
- 17:52Speaker 2: is seemingly a dragon underneath the city. Uh, it's basically
- 18:00Speaker 2: what is explained as by the way, but of course
- 18:04Speaker 2: we do realize and it is revealed that there is
- 18:09Speaker 2: a a reactor core underneath.
- 18:14Speaker 3: It is basically harnessing the volcano's power. And in the
- 18:19Speaker 3: original Nihil bombardment in phase one, the core broke yeah,
- 18:26Speaker 3: but ruptured, yes, but was still stable enough to provide power,
- 18:32Speaker 3: and so Uriatuans have been trying to fix it for
- 18:36Speaker 3: the three years, and now that the Battle of Riata
- 18:39Speaker 3: is coming now it's definitely a risk for rupturing.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So I really dig that. I like that a whole lot.
- 18:50Speaker 2: But this story ends with Master Emeric looking to uh
- 18:58Speaker 2: send out his own message uh to the Republic, which
- 19:02Speaker 2: actually plays into the third story, which I thought was
- 19:09Speaker 2: very clever.
- 19:11Speaker 3: I do feel like it's clever. I don't feel like
- 19:13Speaker 3: it was set up quite as nice as it.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Is clever when it is explained to you, but it
- 19:22Speaker 2: would have been a little more fun in my mind
- 19:26Speaker 2: if they had. I feel like if they had like
- 19:29Speaker 2: an extra page or two to kind of hint at
- 19:33Speaker 2: what Emeric was doing, so that way the reader could
- 19:36Speaker 2: be like, oh, okay, yeah.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Well, I feel like for me, my issue was Emeric
- 19:44Speaker 3: basically kind of comes in with, oh, gosh, what's his name?
- 19:50Speaker 3: The Jedi Knight, not far Soola, it's the other guy
- 19:54Speaker 3: in High Republic Avengers. Anyways, he comes in and he
- 19:59Speaker 3: acts like he's going to record his story with the
- 20:03Speaker 3: Jedi Night, like with that extroid, but in all actuality
- 20:08Speaker 3: he has a separate.
- 20:10Speaker 2: One kind of it's it's uh court Quurt, Yes, yeah,
- 20:18Speaker 2: uh is the other Jedi. Yeah so yeah, that's what
- 20:22Speaker 2: like is a little bit like, okay there, it's a
- 20:26Speaker 2: little clunky as far as like story progression goes. But
- 20:32Speaker 2: I see how they got there, you know, yeah, I do.
- 20:36Speaker 3: And I mean it could also have been that, like
- 20:38Speaker 3: Emrick toted it out, but it just it feels a
- 20:40Speaker 3: little wonky to me.
- 20:41Speaker 2: So yeah. But the other story, uh, the one that
- 20:47Speaker 2: we were also talking about with Driggs. I had complained
- 20:55Speaker 2: and have complained for quite some time that once we
- 20:59Speaker 2: were really in introduced to Gavvy and drigg It and
- 21:03Speaker 2: their story.
- 21:05Speaker 5: That.
- 21:07Speaker 2: There wasn't enough streamlining of that one story to feel
- 21:16Speaker 2: like it was complete in a sense of like for me,
- 21:21Speaker 2: I didn't need it to kind of stretch out this far. Yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 2: you know, and especially on different like pieces of media,
- 21:33Speaker 2: different stories as well. Yeah, and so I'm kinda glad
- 21:41Speaker 2: that we finally got somewhere with it. But at the
- 21:45Speaker 2: same time, like like I'm I don't know how I
- 21:52Speaker 2: feel about Driggate because of what she has done. There's
- 21:58Speaker 2: this idea and we right it up when we were
- 22:01Speaker 2: talking about Escape from valo Is. It's this idea that
- 22:07Speaker 2: when you have no other choice but to survive, you're
- 22:14Speaker 2: gonna do probably some terrible things, right. Yeah. With Drigget,
- 22:20Speaker 2: though she has always been on the fence, there's always
- 22:25Speaker 2: been a glimmer of like, oh there's still good in you, like, oh,
- 22:28Speaker 2: there's there's something here, but like, oh, as soon as
- 22:32Speaker 2: there's you know, my boss is in front of me,
- 22:34Speaker 2: I'm just gonna like er. I'm mean, I'm bad la
- 22:37Speaker 2: la lah. It's just like I it wasn't convincing enough.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I definitely get super frustrated with their story because and
- 22:47Speaker 3: maybe it's simply because I feel like Drigget's story, like
- 22:52Speaker 3: you said, has not has been so sparse, but yet
- 22:56Speaker 3: still full of things that we're supposed to expect. Yes,
- 23:00Speaker 3: So getting Driggate in the one shots getting Driggate here,
- 23:07Speaker 3: it feels so segregated and not together. I wonder if
- 23:14Speaker 3: Alyssa is going to be able to pull it together
- 23:16Speaker 3: really for the Battle of Irianu, And realistically probably I'm
- 23:21Speaker 3: going to go back through and read all Drigget story together.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I I almost wish that there was somebody out
- 23:31Speaker 2: there that could do this type of thing, like grab
- 23:39Speaker 2: all of the Driggate stories and combine them into one file. Yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 2: So that way it's its own story, because like this
- 23:52Speaker 2: was one that I was actually really looking forward to reading. Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 2: And the reason why is because there was such a
- 24:01Speaker 2: strong emotional response to the story of Gavy and Drinket,
- 24:07Speaker 2: the oh you're my sister, you're my brother, like that
- 24:11Speaker 2: whole storyline, and oh you're like my found family but
- 24:15Speaker 2: I'm not supposed to have family, and all these other things.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Like there was something there that I really feel has
- 24:22Speaker 2: kind of fallen off since Escape from Valo.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Yeah, because yeah, because she's Drinket has been so intersparse,
- 24:33Speaker 3: so she's got escaped from Valo. High Republic Adventures four
- 24:36Speaker 3: through six, Chronicles of Karelia Cracking the Mask, Star Wars
- 24:42Speaker 3: Insider to twenty eight, The High Republic Adventures nine but
- 24:46Speaker 3: where the Nameless Seeds of Starlight Heart to Heart in
- 24:51Speaker 3: the Phase three Annual for Higher Republic Adventures. High Republic
- 24:54Speaker 3: Adventures eleven dispatches from the inclusions on one and two
- 24:58Speaker 3: and three High Republic Adventures fourteen, fifteen, Battle of Your
- 25:04Speaker 3: Yadu seventeen and nineteen.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So it's just like they're all like, oh my god, yes,
- 25:11Speaker 2: like that's all over the place, like it's.
- 25:13Speaker 3: And I'm I'm wondering if the Chronicles of Karelia Cracking
- 25:19Speaker 3: the Mask short story is the story where drigg It
- 25:24Speaker 3: and Rue meet for the first time, because I.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Think it was happening well, and that was why I
- 25:30Speaker 2: was a little lost in this story because Rue I
- 25:36Speaker 2: don't remember at all.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So Rue was in uh. Rue was introduced in uh
- 25:44Speaker 3: Tales of Light in Life, Oh, in that tense story
- 25:47Speaker 3: that Elica did.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Okay, okay, because like when you're looking at this story
- 25:55Speaker 2: in this art it shows the cover, and I'm like,
- 25:58Speaker 2: that's a really cool character design.
- 26:01Speaker 3: I got him. Sorry, I got the bug.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Anyway, I really like I like Rue's character design.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I do. I'm really curious about him in general because
- 26:16Speaker 3: I don't feel like we've seen him before because especially
- 26:19Speaker 3: the Galaxy eyes.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Yeah, like like and everything with him, and like there's
- 26:25Speaker 2: this like weird idea of like him like getting lost
- 26:32Speaker 2: in the Nihill mask and like his I guess, like
- 26:39Speaker 2: relationship with the Force and all of this stuff, like
- 26:42Speaker 2: that stuff I want, Like that's intriguing. That makes me
- 26:45Speaker 2: want to learn more about him, because even Crash when
- 26:49Speaker 2: he puts on the mask, he's like, yo, are you
- 26:52Speaker 2: all right? And then like it just moves on from it.
- 26:55Speaker 2: There's nothing really there. I'm like, Okay, well, where can
- 27:00Speaker 2: I read that story? Because that's something I want, you know,
- 27:03Speaker 2: just to learn a little bit more about this character.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's that. I and like this whole thing
- 27:14Speaker 2: with uh. When they finally meet face to face, they
- 27:19Speaker 2: both know who each other are because of course they
- 27:21Speaker 2: did interact once before, but like they didn't interact enough
- 27:29Speaker 2: to really get a good idea of who each other
- 27:34Speaker 2: was or is. Because even Rue was like, oh, you're
- 27:38Speaker 2: just a kid, and she's like, well so are you.
- 27:40Speaker 2: It's like yeah, okay, well, how is this gonna progress?
- 27:46Speaker 2: What does this mean? Like is there gonna be something
- 27:51Speaker 2: for these two characters together in Alyssa's next story with them?
- 27:56Speaker 2: Like I want to know more? So, And guys, this
- 28:01Speaker 2: is totally like our faults as somebody who is reading
- 28:07Speaker 2: these once they come as a collection, we're not getting
- 28:12Speaker 2: it monthly, so that way we're getting these small little
- 28:15Speaker 2: things of like oh, yeah, this character was here, and
- 28:17Speaker 2: this character was there, and like yeah, we're getting them
- 28:20Speaker 2: all at once, and so we're having to backtrack and
- 28:23Speaker 2: or wait for more information to come when other collected
- 28:27Speaker 2: editions release.
- 28:29Speaker 3: This is because we are cheap. Actually no, it's because
- 28:35Speaker 3: I like staying organized and this is a lot easier
- 28:39Speaker 3: to grab on a shelf than an individual comed issue.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and guys, I live in an apartment. Katie is
- 28:47Speaker 2: looking to get a new house. And I can already
- 28:50Speaker 2: tell you from experience of from experience of moving just
- 28:55Speaker 2: the small shelf that I have of books, I've had
- 28:58Speaker 2: to move comics, boxes and boxes of comics, individual comics.
- 29:03Speaker 2: It's not fun.
- 29:05Speaker 3: And I have four.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Exactly like to each their own on collecting comics. I
- 29:13Speaker 2: can't do it anymore. I cannot get a weekly pool
- 29:19Speaker 2: list going and be like, Oh, I like if I
- 29:24Speaker 2: get like a forever home, maybe I can go back
- 29:27Speaker 2: to doing that. Yeah, but in an apartment, I have
- 29:31Speaker 2: no space. I have a two year old that would
- 29:33Speaker 2: absolutely demolish them, and like, it's just it's so much
- 29:39Speaker 2: work on my back when I have to move it.
- 29:42Speaker 3: It's not it's not worth it. So we just kind
- 29:45Speaker 3: of take the issues as they come.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, So, uh, this story, Oh we'll go ahead. Yeah, sorry.
- 29:56Speaker 3: I do like the fight scenes that we get. They're
- 29:58Speaker 3: a lot of fun, especially the one with it in real.
- 30:02Speaker 3: So the third issue probably probably the most vital out
- 30:09Speaker 3: of this story.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Yes, we're gonna go into our second ad break and
- 30:16Speaker 4: we'll be right back, yes.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Which because I love Emrick and I'm so sad that
- 30:22Speaker 3: he kind of got sidelined.
- 30:24Speaker 2: He did, he did get a little sidelined. I felt
- 30:27Speaker 2: like his story in like the ending of phase one
- 30:32Speaker 2: really did kind of build him up to be a
- 30:35Speaker 2: big player, and they didn't do much with him at all.
- 30:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he got relegated to side character in the High
- 30:43Speaker 3: Republic Adventures.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Which does give me hope for whatever plans they end
- 30:51Speaker 2: up having for the High Republic in the future. Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 2: these are all characters that they can play with. So
- 30:58Speaker 2: we have created our own little sandbox of Higher Republic characters,
- 31:02Speaker 2: and hopefully we get more stories with these guys, because
- 31:06Speaker 2: they do pick up on some of the most intriguing
- 31:10Speaker 2: parts of Emeric, especially the idea of him being a
- 31:16Speaker 2: seeker of knowledge, which is a really big part of
- 31:21Speaker 2: this story.
- 31:22Speaker 3: And figuring out who he has to talk to to
- 31:25Speaker 3: get that knowledge. Yeah, because a lot of people, Emeric
- 31:30Speaker 3: being willing to go to niv Drindou to get the
- 31:34Speaker 3: nameless knowledge that he's looking for is vital because not
- 31:38Speaker 3: a lot of Jedi Knights would have been prepared to
- 31:40Speaker 3: do that.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that's one hundred percent true. And this is like,
- 31:52Speaker 2: again the the the way that this was kind of
- 31:57Speaker 2: set up in that first story, their execution to this
- 32:06Speaker 2: I feel like could have been touched up a little better.
- 32:09Speaker 2: But as I also said when we were talking about it,
- 32:13Speaker 2: the point came across very well, Like at the end
- 32:16Speaker 2: of the story, you're like, oh, so that's how it
- 32:19Speaker 2: all happened. So I like this I like how we
- 32:24Speaker 2: also get like a pack of charhounds here. I like
- 32:31Speaker 2: that we're playing around with the creatures of the Star
- 32:34Speaker 2: Wars universe. So I do like that. But we also
- 32:42Speaker 2: get to see and the reason why this is so
- 32:45Speaker 2: vital to you know, the rest of the High Republic story.
- 32:50Speaker 2: We get to see the actual place where boolin' uh.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Yeah, where Bullers spent time.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah, with all of his notes and uh it says
- 33:07Speaker 2: here it's where the bull It's where the Baron scrawled
- 33:12Speaker 2: all his theories about the nameless over the years. We
- 33:17Speaker 2: also get the notes of as then real, so we
- 33:23Speaker 2: like we get the combination of Aslin and Baron their
- 33:28Speaker 2: knowledge together to create this ongoing puzzle that they are
- 33:34Speaker 2: trying to solve. The one thing that I kind of
- 33:39Speaker 2: like don't like about this is, uh, there's this really
- 33:44Speaker 2: cool double plage page, uh splash page where it shows
- 33:52Speaker 2: them like trying to figure out this puzzle. My problem
- 33:58Speaker 2: is that there's no diet on this two page splash.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I know that it's supposed to show the progression of time.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I feel like you could have really gotten into like
- 34:11Speaker 2: the psychology of these two characters. Yeah, in this page, I.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Do see that it's so funny that you said that,
- 34:19Speaker 3: because I literally had the spread up and wanted to
- 34:23Speaker 3: talk about how much I love this spread.
- 34:27Speaker 2: No, I I dig it, I I I love the art.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I love the art, I love the implication. I like
- 34:36Speaker 2: what this does for the story. But I feel like
- 34:40Speaker 2: it was a little wasted when you have them both
- 34:45Speaker 2: talking about like, oh, I know you, and you know me,
- 34:50Speaker 2: and you're just like me, and I'm just like you,
- 34:52Speaker 2: and like all of these things, right, but there's never
- 34:54Speaker 2: really like them getting down to the meat and potatoes
- 34:57Speaker 2: of why they think that about each other. And if
- 35:01Speaker 2: they were just like I understand that it could have
- 35:05Speaker 2: been a really big turn off if you turn the
- 35:07Speaker 2: page to that double place page splash and saw like
- 35:12Speaker 2: just a wall of text bubbles and you're like, oh god,
- 35:16Speaker 2: I have to read all of this exposition, Like, I
- 35:19Speaker 2: understand how that could possibly be overwhelming, but I wish
- 35:24Speaker 2: there would have been something there to get more about
- 35:26Speaker 2: these characters.
- 35:28Speaker 3: I definitely understand that. I disagree though, because of the
- 35:33Speaker 3: downside of what this is. It's in anthology, it's meant
- 35:37Speaker 3: to tackle multiple characters. It was still meant to be
- 35:39Speaker 3: a weekly comic and weekly comics only get so big unfortunately. Yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 3: so I do agree, though, I do agree because I
- 35:54Speaker 3: love the mystery that is Emeric and apparently Nip Drindough
- 35:58Speaker 3: I really like him. So for the fourth issue, which
- 36:03Speaker 3: is Return to Dolma, where did it go? It was here, somewhere,
- 36:11Speaker 3: I don't know whatever. So issue number four, I love
- 36:19Speaker 3: the art in this, I don't see it adding much
- 36:24Speaker 3: to the story other than telling us, Okay, Lorna really
- 36:29Speaker 3: does feel bad about Dolma.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Yes, so that was something that I wanted to bring up. Also,
- 36:35Speaker 2: it's just like, for one, the only thing I don't
- 36:39Speaker 2: like about this art the very first time we visually
- 36:47Speaker 2: get to see Planet X. It has all of this
- 36:52Speaker 2: like crazy look at art right, and it's like, oh
- 36:55Speaker 2: my gosh, it's so like wicked and like psychedelic and
- 36:58Speaker 2: like all of this stuff. So when I turn the
- 37:00Speaker 2: page to this issue and I'm like, oh my god,
- 37:04Speaker 2: his Planet X and then I see Donna, I'm like,
- 37:06Speaker 2: what the hell? Like this is not what I picture
- 37:09Speaker 2: Donna to look like. I mean, that's that's one of
- 37:13Speaker 2: the issues that I have here for as far as
- 37:16Speaker 2: the art goes, but as far as the story implications,
- 37:23Speaker 2: you are one hundred correct. There's only two things that
- 37:27Speaker 2: this story does. One, like you said, it gives a
- 37:35Speaker 2: little bit more humanity to Lorna. That's the small thing
- 37:44Speaker 2: that this book does.
- 37:46Speaker 5: And two, it puts Tie in the correct time and
- 37:54Speaker 5: space to then be a bigger part.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Of what will eventually be Trials of the Jedi.
- 38:03Speaker 3: But does it though, because at the end of Saber
- 38:08Speaker 3: for Hire she is en Corussance, She's delivered the Chancellor's son,
- 38:15Speaker 3: So now this is only an extra errand that she
- 38:18Speaker 3: is running.
- 38:22Speaker 2: I guess.
- 38:25Speaker 3: That's my biggest thing is she's already there. And I
- 38:29Speaker 3: think probably what happened here is they said, hey, we
- 38:33Speaker 3: need one more issue, let's do Tie and kind of
- 38:39Speaker 3: go in that direction.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I get what you're saying. It was more of like, hey,
- 38:45Speaker 2: what characters might be stuck in the inclusion zone right
- 38:48Speaker 2: now that we can kind of still play with.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Especially considering Tie is a High Republic adventure character based
- 38:58Speaker 3: excuse me on Cavin Scott's issues with the Mercenary Saber
- 39:03Speaker 3: for Higher Now I have the hiccups. My other issue
- 39:08Speaker 3: with this comic, with this issue is the hand Siberius
- 39:15Speaker 3: gets destroyed here, and I don't know if this is
- 39:19Speaker 3: specifically to antagonize Tay or not, because I read the
- 39:24Speaker 3: first couple issues of Fear of the Jedi because they
- 39:27Speaker 3: were on Marble Unlimited, so I was like, why not.
- 39:31Speaker 3: And he definitely mourns the loss of the hand in those,
- 39:35Speaker 3: and there's repercussions we won't get into for his mental state.
- 39:41Speaker 3: But like, if I was reading Fear of the Jedi,
- 39:44Speaker 3: I would not have known that this happened in here. No,
- 39:47Speaker 3: don't get me wrong. There's a little note that's like
- 39:49Speaker 3: see the High Republic Advengers dispatches from the Inclusion Zone
- 39:53Speaker 3: number four on the issue. But like Tay and Lorna
- 39:59Speaker 3: are mar comic characters. Yeah, there are people out there
- 40:05Speaker 3: who are like, I'm not gonna go buy dark Horse,
- 40:07Speaker 3: I'm sticking with Marvel.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Like this crossover. What happens with repercussions for that issue.
- 40:17Speaker 2: It is a thing that I have never liked in
- 40:23Speaker 2: the uh realm of comics because it is something that
- 40:30Speaker 2: happens periodically, not only in Star Wars books. It's a
- 40:33Speaker 2: little bit harder in Star Wars books because, like you
- 40:37Speaker 2: just said, it's two publications, it's Marvel and it's dark Horse.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Things would be easier if they had decided, hey, you know,
- 40:51Speaker 2: our Adventures stories are only going to be Marvel Unlimited exclusives,
- 40:58Speaker 2: you know, so that way, you're still reading a physical
- 41:01Speaker 2: copy of the ongoing series, and then if you want
- 41:05Speaker 2: to learn something, you're still staying with the same publisher,
- 41:08Speaker 2: but you just have to go to a different platform
- 41:11Speaker 2: where the other book is also still on there, you know.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Whereas this people may only have this idea of like, oh,
- 41:18Speaker 2: I'm only gonna read Marvel books, Star Wars Marvel, I'm
- 41:24Speaker 2: not gonna go out of my way to read dark
- 41:27Speaker 2: Horse books, And yeah, it sucks. It really really does,
- 41:33Speaker 2: because when you do read those side notes, it's like, Okay,
- 41:38Speaker 2: I'm just gonna have to assume something happened to the hand, Okay, whatever,
- 41:44Speaker 2: move on. Like you don't get the full story, but
- 41:47Speaker 2: there is implications strong enough to change the way a
- 41:52Speaker 2: character sees his life or their life. So it's like,
- 41:58Speaker 2: I kind of want to know that story, but you're
- 42:00Speaker 2: making me do more work and trying to find this
- 42:04Speaker 2: other book. I can see how that could be a
- 42:07Speaker 2: very big nuisance for people.
- 42:11Speaker 3: That's my biggest complain stat is I don't have a
- 42:13Speaker 3: lot to say about the story because it's again, it's
- 42:16Speaker 3: a rescue mission that Tye does. There's not a lot
- 42:19Speaker 3: to it. She's a good character.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I love ty Yeah, I don't there's a problem.
- 42:27Speaker 3: With Okay, I say I don't have a problem with
- 42:30Speaker 3: having the story. I kind of do have a problem
- 42:33Speaker 3: with having the story here, but like I also enjoy
- 42:36Speaker 3: the story.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, it's it's a fun story. It's it's great
- 42:41Speaker 2: when it comes to the art as well. But like there's,
- 42:46Speaker 2: like you said, there is nothing that really moves the
- 42:49Speaker 2: needle for the story at hand, the bigger picture. This
- 42:56Speaker 2: is literally just a side road that you could easily
- 43:01Speaker 2: just kind of look at and be like, h not interested.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Let's keep going, you know. Yep, So I one hundred
- 43:07Speaker 2: percent agree. I will say this artist and the way
- 43:13Speaker 2: they draw Kiev and Skiers, I love this art at
- 43:22Speaker 2: the very end. But yeah, that is uh.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Because I also love how pissed off she is. Really Yeah,
- 43:31Speaker 3: she's like I'm fucking done with the ship, Like can
- 43:35Speaker 3: we please just go save people already?
- 43:37Speaker 2: There's uh because she was like, uh, skip the formalities.
- 43:40Speaker 2: There's no titles here. We're just trying to save people.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Move on, let's keep going. So yeah, really dig that
