- 0:00Speaker 1: Don't dream it's over. What an appropriate song. 106.7 Light FM. Cubby, Christine,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and producer Kristen. The final Friday of the summer of 2026. Whoa. Also,
- 0:10Speaker 1: I feel, could be the final day that we're in
- 0:13Speaker 1: the 80s.
- 0:14Speaker 2: For the rest of the year?
- 0:16Speaker 1: For the rest of the year.
- 0:17Speaker 2: You're going on record with this?
- 0:19Speaker 3: I am.
- 0:19Speaker 1: You know what? Yes. Go ahead and stamp it.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Now, will we have a stretch of 80 degree days
- 0:25Speaker 1: in October probably?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Yeah, probably.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:28Speaker 2: It always seems to happen.
- 0:29Speaker 1: But I feel pretty confident that today will be the
- 0:32Speaker 1: last day. It'll be 81 for a high, and then
- 0:34Speaker 1: we're in the 70s for the weekend into the 60s.
- 0:38Speaker 1: And then I don't think we're getting out of the
- 0:40Speaker 1: 70s anytime soon after that.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:44Speaker 1: If I'm wrong, I'm sorry.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You're going to start switching clothes over, so I hope
- 0:48Speaker 2: you're right.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I did that yesterday, actually. You did? Uh-huh. My wife
- 0:51Speaker 1: was cleaning out a closet, and she said there's a
- 0:53Speaker 1: lot of room in here. why don't you put your
- 0:56Speaker 1: shorts in there? Because I doubt you're going to be
- 0:57Speaker 1: wearing shorts much longer. Right. I said, yeah, I probably won't.
- 0:59Speaker 1: So I put some shorts there. So yeah, switch it over, baby.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Do it.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Okay. It's a big commitment here.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Do you think I'll be right? No more 80 degree
- 1:07Speaker 1: days for the rest of the year.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I hope you're right, actually. I hope so. October is weird.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Sometimes there's these super hot days in October.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I know. All right. Well, enjoy the weekend. And like
- 1:18Speaker 1: I said earlier, the better half of the weekend, as
- 1:20Speaker 1: far as weather goes, is tomorrow. with nothing but rain
- 1:24Speaker 1: on Sunday. So that's kind of sucky.
- 1:25Speaker 2: There we go.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And then fall begins on Tuesday.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:28Speaker 1: So you'll be inside probably decorating.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 1: What happened with your big meeting yesterday?
- 1:34Speaker 2: So inspired.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Somebody came over. Yes. And what happened?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Melanio Gomez, who I had met When I worked with
- 1:41Speaker 2: Martha Stewart, remember, I was hosting radio shows for her.
- 1:45Speaker 2: And he is one of her favorite interior designers. And
- 1:48Speaker 2: he's just this beautiful, wonderful person. And we hadn't seen
- 1:51Speaker 2: each other in years and years and years. And he
- 1:53Speaker 2: started a podcast. He invited me to be on the podcast.
- 1:58Speaker 2: But as soon as he asked me to be on
- 1:59Speaker 2: the podcast, I was like, hey, you want to come
- 2:01Speaker 2: over and help me out of my house?
- 2:03Speaker 1: A little tradeoff.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Jumped up on that opportunity so fast. I think I
- 2:07Speaker 2: put him on the spot. But anyway, he came over yesterday.
- 2:09Speaker 2: It was like no time had passed. We were talking
- 2:12Speaker 2: and catching up. He's so wonderful. He gave me so
- 2:15Speaker 2: many great ideas that I feel so inspired coming.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Were you taking notes?
- 2:19Speaker 2: And so much better about my place.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Were you taking notes?
- 2:21Speaker 2: For a while, I was just listening. And then I
- 2:22Speaker 2: was like, wait a minute. I've got to write this down. Right.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And you know how I've been struggling with paint colors?
- 2:28Speaker 2: And really, the paint colors I'm down to were between two.
- 2:31Speaker 2: And they're so, so similar. He was helping me make
- 2:34Speaker 2: those final decisions. And it was always the one that
- 2:37Speaker 2: I had chosen first. Like I never should have.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And that should be a lesson for a lot of us, right? Yes.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Always stick with your first answer.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Go with your gut.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And also, yesterday I told you before he came over,
- 2:48Speaker 2: I thought anything that's out and about that looks cluttery,
- 2:52Speaker 2: I'm just going to shove in a closet.
- 2:54Speaker 1: You know, we do that before the housekeeper comes every
- 2:56Speaker 1: couple of weeks.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Because he won't see it and it'll look clear.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Just get it out of the way and she'll never
- 3:01Speaker 1: go in that room or he'll never go in that room.
- 3:02Speaker 2: As long as he doesn't open that closet, I'm looking good.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm looking good. We're talking about color drenching. And Melania
- 3:09Speaker 2: walks over to that closet where everything is shoved in.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And he's like, if you paint the outside of the
- 3:14Speaker 2: closet this color, the inside. I'm like, nope, nope, nope.
- 3:18Speaker 1: No, don't look.
- 3:19Speaker 2: That direction. And he closes it. He's still looking at me.
- 3:22Speaker 2: And then he opens it again. I'm like, nope, still no.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Please don't. Oh God, don't look at that.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Nothing fell out though. I picture skis, balls, blankets all
- 3:33Speaker 1: just coming out.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I think if he glanced, he was like, yeah, I
- 3:36Speaker 2: want to look at that. He was great. Not judgmental
- 3:39Speaker 2: at all. Coming up with great ideas. And it wasn't
- 3:41Speaker 2: about buying new things. It was about using what I
- 3:44Speaker 2: already have, but moving them around.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So when you eventually record this podcast- Where will I
- 3:50Speaker 1: be able to hear it? Just look up his name?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Just go to iHeart.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And where you find your favorite podcasts.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Wherever you get your podcasts.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yes.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'll check it out.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I have the name of his podcast, but not in
- 4:01Speaker 2: front of me right now.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Oh, that's okay. That's all right. That's fine.
- 4:03Speaker 2: But I will get it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Actually, people can Google it right now. And actually, I'm
- 4:06Speaker 1: going to Google it right now, too. What's his name again?
- 4:08Speaker 2: Melanio Gomez.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Spell the first name.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Melanio? Yeah. M-E-L-A-N. It's that N-E-A-O.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Gomez. Okay. All right.
- 4:16Speaker 3: G-O. Okay.
- 4:17Speaker 2: M-E-Z.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And his podcast.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I got Selena Gomez on here.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Not Selena. Selena's cousin. A Life Creative is the name
- 4:29Speaker 2: of his podcast.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Got it.
- 4:30Speaker 2: There it is. A Life Creative.
- 4:33Speaker 1: A Life Creative.
- 4:34Speaker 2: A Life Creative. And then he talks to creative, artistic people.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And I'm very honored to be included.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Well, let us know when you tape it and we
- 4:42Speaker 1: can hear it. Okay.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Thank you. All right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Hey, coming up at 8 o'clock this morning, the fabulous
- 4:47Speaker 1: Clay Aiken.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yay.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He's back with new music. He'll be live in studio.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Hope you can hang out for that. We have $ 500
- 4:54Speaker 1: to give away today. It's Light FM on a Friday.
- 4:56Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I need to tell you two things.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Cubby and Christine's.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Two pretty cool things.
- 5:09Speaker 1: So producer Kristen sent me this story. So there's a
- 5:11Speaker 1: beer brand called Shock Top. and they partnered with Spirit
- 5:15Speaker 1: Halloween to launch a limited edition fall collaboration featuring a
- 5:19Speaker 1: candy corn flavored beer.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Candy corn flavored beer. What do you think?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Okay. No, actually, I would try it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I would try it, but I know how some people
- 5:29Speaker 1: feel about candy corn. But check it out. They have
- 5:33Speaker 1: a mascot involved in this. So as part of the fun,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Spirit Halloween is selling an official easy-to-wear wedgehead jumpsuit costume
- 5:42Speaker 1: online today. allowing fans to dress up as Shock Top's
- 5:46Speaker 1: signature mohawked orange slice mascot. Oh, good. So the beer
- 5:49Speaker 1: has a mascot. You can get drunk.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You have a costume.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Get hammered on this beer and then go to Spirit
- 5:55Speaker 1: Halloween and become a wedgehead. All done. That's how it's
- 5:58Speaker 1: all tied in. All one spot. What do you have
- 6:01Speaker 1: as a cool thing?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to move on to Christmas, Cubby, because
- 6:05Speaker 2: we are going to get an elf immersive experience. The
- 6:09Speaker 2: Elf Experience is coming right here to Rockefeller Center, and
- 6:13Speaker 2: it's pretty soon, November 14th. I don't know why. I
- 6:15Speaker 2: feel like that's coming on fast.
- 6:16Speaker 1: It is coming fast.
- 6:18Speaker 2: It's going to recreate locations like Candy Cane Forest, Santa's
- 6:21Speaker 2: Toy Workshop, the North Pole, Gimbals.
- 6:24Speaker 1: This is awesome. I know.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It sounds so much fun. So you'll be able to
- 6:27Speaker 2: take photos, and there's going to be treats and special
- 6:30Speaker 2: merch and the whole thing. Director Jon Favreau, who directed Elf.
- 6:34Speaker 2: says in a statement that artists from the original film,
- 6:37Speaker 2: as well as new artists inspired by the holiday classic,
- 6:40Speaker 2: used techniques including miniatures, animatronics, and forced perspective to capture
- 6:45Speaker 2: the spirit of the film.
- 6:46Speaker 1: All right, bring on Christmas. And we'll bring on more
- 6:49Speaker 1: variety from the 80s through today. Hey, don't forget Clay
- 6:52Speaker 1: Aiken live in studio, 8 o'clock this morning on Light FM.
- 6:55Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Hey, Merry Christmas, everybody. You know, Clay Aiken is going
- 7:04Speaker 1: to be here at 8 o'clock this morning, and Clay
- 7:06Speaker 1: Aiken has his version of Oh, Holy Night.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Oh, how pretty.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Here's a little sample of Clay Aiken.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And we'll tell you why we're talking Christmas here in
- 7:14Speaker 1: a second, but here you go. Clay Aiken live in
- 7:16Speaker 1: the studio at 8, but this is one of his
- 7:18Speaker 1: Christmas songs. Here we go. Any minute now. Oh, holy night.
- 7:26Speaker 1: The stars are brightly shining.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Beautiful voice.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It'll be playing soon.
- 7:36Speaker 2: He really, really has a gorgeous voice, yeah.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But we won't be playing Christmas at 8 o'clock. We'll
- 7:40Speaker 1: be playing his brand new song. But why are we
- 7:43Speaker 1: talking Christmas right now?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Because it's closing in on us, Cubby.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Hallmark has revealed their Countdown to Christmas lineup with 34
- 7:51Speaker 2: original movies. Sabrina, yes, we're speaking to you.
- 7:54Speaker 1: If Sabrina's listening.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I hope so.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Do you think she is? All right, Sabrina, if you're listening,
- 7:58Speaker 1: text us.
- 7:59Speaker 2: We have so many fans of Hallmark movies, right? So
- 8:02Speaker 2: they are going to kick it off with a special,
- 8:05Speaker 2: with a new season of Mistletoe Murders, by the way.
- 8:08Speaker 2: That kicks off Friday, October 16th. All of your favorites
- 8:12Speaker 2: will be back. Lacey Chabert, Holly Robinson-Pete, Jonathan Bennett, Tyler Hines.
- 8:17Speaker 2: But Cubby, some of the original movies, Hallmark movies that
- 8:21Speaker 2: are headed this way for Christmas, starting October 16th. Tis
- 8:25Speaker 2: the season for set-ups.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Now, these are actual titles.
- 8:28Speaker 2: These are actual titles. We have Who's Coming for Christmas
- 8:34Speaker 2: on October 30th.
- 8:35Speaker 1: A Murderer.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Adopting St. Nick, October 31st.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Will Die.
- 8:41Speaker 2: A Season of Promises, November 8th.
- 8:43Speaker 1: The reason I say these little extra things.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Is because they're in October.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Well, no. Because sometimes these titles that Lifetime comes up with.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 8:51Speaker 1: They just, they contradict each other. Like the first one you,
- 8:54Speaker 1: what was it, Murder One called? Well. Mistletoe murders.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Mistletoe murders.
- 8:58Speaker 1: Like you have a happy thing like mistletoe, then you
- 9:00Speaker 1: got the word murders.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like it's a little bit of a 180 in my opinion. Right.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But I'm sure everything works out okay in the end.
- 9:09Speaker 2: There's also a holiday touchdown of Bear's Love Story, October 17th.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So it has to be about football?
- 9:15Speaker 2: I think that's about football.
- 9:16Speaker 1: All right.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So maybe you could watch that. Our holiday playbook, November 20th. Okay.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Double booked for the holidays, November 22nd. That sounds like
- 9:25Speaker 2: a dirty movie, to be honest with you. The Most
- 9:28Speaker 2: Wonderful Secret, November 28th. And for producer Kristen, because she
- 9:31Speaker 2: actually saw them shooting this when she was in Disney.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Holiday Ever After, A Disney World Wish Come True, November 28th.
- 9:39Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Hallmark busting out the Christmas movies. You ready? Yeah. For
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Christmas?
- 9:46Speaker 2: Oh, oh, I thought you were going to play a song.
- 9:48Speaker 1: How about more Holy Night?
- 9:49Speaker 2: We still have Noel Nomads and Snowblow Town.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Clay Aiken, live in studio at 8 o'clock, but we'll
- 9:57Speaker 1: not be doing Christmas songs, but we do have.
- 9:58Speaker 3: One in the library.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Barking All the Way.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Barking All the Way is an actual title?
- 10:05Speaker 2: The Snowflake Effect.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Keep going.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Eight Nights for Love.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'll give you three.
- 10:13Speaker 2: An Angel in My Stocking.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Oh.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Snowglobetown.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Snow globe down.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Town.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Oh, town. Merry Christmas, everybody.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Christmas in Blue Dog Valley. I'm out.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Light FM.
- 10:31Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 10:38Speaker 1: That song came out in 1999, Smash Mouth and All Star.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I believe I had the Nokia cell phone at the time.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, cutting edge.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Light FM, Cubby, Christine, and Kristen. And we're kind of
- 10:47Speaker 1: talking about that because we're reading an article from Reddit.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And the simple question, was life simpler without cell phones?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Was life better?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Was life better?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Before cell phones.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And, you know, people are kind of going back and
- 11:01Speaker 2: forth on it. But I think mainly people are in
- 11:04Speaker 2: favor of, you know, cell phones, that life was better.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Because I see a lot of, like, being present, being
- 11:11Speaker 2: in the moment, experiencing it, talking to people, being excited
- 11:15Speaker 2: when the phone rang because.
- 11:17Speaker 1: You don't know who it is.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and we talk for hours. Things have just changed.
- 11:22Speaker 2: It's just changed us so much.
- 11:23Speaker 1: What is your personal opinion? I'll tell you mine after
- 11:26Speaker 1: you go. Was life better before cell phones?
- 11:30Speaker 2: It's taking up so much of my life right now.
- 11:33Speaker 1: I agree.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I almost get resentful. I know I need it, and
- 11:40Speaker 2: I'm responsible.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's a heck of a piece of technology, right? It is.
- 11:43Speaker 1: It can do so much.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And I need it. But it can just soak up
- 11:48Speaker 2: all of my time. So I feel like I'm doing
- 11:51Speaker 2: less going out, less creative projects because I fall into
- 11:55Speaker 2: this habit of scrolling.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And also feel like a slave to it. Like, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 2: like you get the little– and I feel like I
- 12:01Speaker 2: have to respond to every text, every notification, like right
- 12:03Speaker 2: then and there.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Emails.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah. All hours. So then it's like brain overload.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I totally agree with you. In fact– I a lot
- 12:10Speaker 1: of times will pull up old sporting events on YouTube.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm like, let me check out this New York Knicks
- 12:14Speaker 1: game from 1992. I know I'm weird. And I noticed
- 12:18Speaker 1: the crowd. They're all like watching.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 1: No one's on their phone. Right. Like simple things like that. Right.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Because we feel like we have to document everything. You
- 12:28Speaker 1: mentioned how. like used to go to the U S open.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And now I don't know about your feed, but my
- 12:33Speaker 1: feed was filled like last week of people at the
- 12:36Speaker 1: U S open, but there were hardly tennis pictures, right?
- 12:38Speaker 1: I know just pictures of drinks. It was tense and
- 12:42Speaker 1: VIP laminates. Exactly.
- 12:43Speaker 2: It was more about like getting the photo at the open.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I'm like, I used to go every single year because
- 12:47Speaker 2: we loved going to the U S open and going
- 12:49Speaker 2: to the early matches and you can get up close
- 12:51Speaker 2: and it wasn't about notice me. I'm at the open,
- 12:54Speaker 2: you know, and I'm not, I don't want to slam
- 12:57Speaker 2: that because I get it. Like, I get that it's
- 12:59Speaker 2: exciting that you're in a place that a lot of
- 13:01Speaker 2: people want to go to and you want to share
- 13:03Speaker 2: that with people. But like even even, you know, places
- 13:07Speaker 2: that we've been touring and vacationing, it's and I can't
- 13:12Speaker 2: say it's exactly the cell phone. It's also like social media,
- 13:14Speaker 2: which is tied into the cell phone. But there become
- 13:17Speaker 2: these spots that are like. This is the place you
- 13:19Speaker 2: must get a picture.
- 13:20Speaker 1: It becomes a job.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And now people are lined up for it, whereas before
- 13:23Speaker 2: it was like crowded, but you could get to it.
- 13:26Speaker 1: It's just you got to do it for the gram.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I know it's it's.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Kind of it's just changed everything. And when you're in
- 13:31Speaker 2: the theater, you know, whether it's live theater or a
- 13:34Speaker 2: movie theater and you just want to send a text message,
- 13:37Speaker 2: we all whoever is in that zone, look at you
- 13:39Speaker 2: like I can't eat. You can't help it. Something is
- 13:42Speaker 2: lit up.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you think your phone is on dim, but it's
- 13:44Speaker 1: still pretty bright in that dark theater.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Also, it affects traffic. I mean, forget the whole texting
- 13:49Speaker 1: and driving. Nobody should be doing that. But you know
- 13:51Speaker 1: what I've noticed? The reaction times when a light turns green. Oh, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 1: A lot of times that first person in line, I
- 13:58Speaker 1: watch the brake lights when the light turns green. And
- 14:01Speaker 1: the light will turn green, and the brake lights will
- 14:03Speaker 1: still be red for like two seconds. Because you know
- 14:05Speaker 1: darn well they were looking down at their phone.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And somebody back there is going, eh.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Uh-huh. So, again, technology is amazing. Yeah. I think it's
- 14:13Speaker 1: so cool you can send an email from your bed
- 14:15Speaker 1: and take a photo anywhere.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 1: But I do think life was simpler before cell phones. Yeah.
- 14:21Speaker 2: There's a giveaway.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Give take?
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, there really is.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Give us a text at 44363. Hey, what do you
- 14:27Speaker 1: have coming up in the headlines?
- 14:28Speaker 2: We're going to check out the headlines and how did
- 14:30Speaker 2: we form our taste for our favorite foods?
- 14:33Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Final Friday of the summer and Christine has everything you
- 14:41Speaker 1: need to know. Good morning, Christine.
- 14:43Speaker 2: And good morning, Cubby. Thank you. Well, we are closing
- 14:46Speaker 2: in on those gridlock alert days, right? We have the
- 14:48Speaker 2: UN General Assembly beginning next week. Mayor Mamdani. says he
- 14:51Speaker 2: is focused on public safety. The House of Representatives has
- 14:55Speaker 2: gone home without passing any significant legislation dealing with AI.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Speaker Mike Johnson decided to wrap things up early as
- 15:03Speaker 2: Republicans face headwinds with the midterms looming and some AI
- 15:07Speaker 2: companies are urging national leaders to pass AI regulations. The
- 15:11Speaker 2: Knicks had to stop some ticket sales yesterday after there
- 15:14Speaker 2: was a computer glitch and they were going for far
- 15:18Speaker 2: too high prices. But some people bought them. So October
- 15:22Speaker 2: 20th is the opening with Philadelphia, and the tickets were
- 15:25Speaker 2: selling for over $ 1, 000.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And people were thinking, well, I heard they were going up,
- 15:29Speaker 1: so I'll just buy them. But that was a little
- 15:31Speaker 1: bit too high.
- 15:31Speaker 2: A little too high. Tickets will restart with the fixed pricing.
- 15:36Speaker 2: They shut it down for a little while. It's 12%
- 15:38Speaker 2: more than it was last year, if you can do
- 15:40Speaker 2: the math. And if you bought the tickets at the
- 15:42Speaker 2: inflated prices, you'll get a refund. By the way, Jalen
- 15:46Speaker 2: Brunson will be guest starring on Law & Order with
- 15:49Speaker 2: his buddy Mariska Haggarty.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Man, another thing for him. He's got an SNL hosting gig. Yes,
- 15:54Speaker 1: he does. Wow.
- 15:55Speaker 2: The great Jack-O-Lantern plays opening today in Westchester County. We've
- 15:59Speaker 2: got the Feast of San Gennaro underway in baseball. Mets
- 16:03Speaker 2: lost to the Phillies. Jared Young... is said to be okay,
- 16:07Speaker 2: but he did have, like, a pretty bad head injury.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Knee to head. Knee to temple, actually. Very scary. But
- 16:12Speaker 1: he got the thumbs up there as they were taking
- 16:14Speaker 1: him out. Right.
- 16:15Speaker 2: So it looked like he had signs of concussion. But
- 16:18Speaker 2: his chest scan, his CT scan was negative. Football. Bills
- 16:23Speaker 2: beat the Lions 41-31. And then this weekend, Jets will
- 16:27Speaker 2: play the Packers on Sunday. Giants play the Rams in
- 16:29Speaker 2: Monday night football. And how did we develop our taste
- 16:32Speaker 2: for our favorite foods? Think our moms. Apparently, studies show
- 16:37Speaker 2: that your favorite foods are likely foods that your mom
- 16:40Speaker 2: was eating when she was pregnant with you.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I've always heard that, and I wasn't sure, but the
- 16:46Speaker 1: science behind it is backing it up.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It says yes. I'm thinking back to what my mom
- 16:50Speaker 2: liked and what I like, and nope.
- 16:51Speaker 1: A little different? Yeah. No? Maybe not for everybody.
- 16:55Speaker 3: I guess.
- 16:55Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, Christine. Get ready for a mix
- 16:58Speaker 1: of sun and clouds around today. High 81. As I
- 17:00Speaker 1: said earlier, I think it's the final day in the
- 17:03Speaker 1: 80s for a long time. I could be wrong, but
- 17:06Speaker 1: I think we might be done with the 80s.
- 17:07Speaker 2: It's pretty dramatic.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I know. It's currently, what is current right now? Oh,
- 17:11Speaker 1: it's not on there. It's, make it up. 72.
- 17:13Speaker 2: 72?
- 17:14Speaker 3: 72.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I've got it on my computer. Look at you. I
- 17:17Speaker 1: head into a high of 81.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Mort Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Light FM, happy Friday. Big shout out to my buddy Dan.
- 17:26Speaker 1: He works at Safer Electric. He's my electrician. And he's
- 17:30Speaker 1: in the van right now with Jaden heading to a job.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And I haven't heard from him in a long time. So, Dan,
- 17:35Speaker 1: thank you for listening. Again, the company is in New Jersey.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I'll give them a shout out because they're great. They're
- 17:39Speaker 1: called Safer Electric.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 17:41Speaker 1: If you're looking for a good electrician.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I have a Dan the electrician, too.
- 17:45Speaker 1: You do, too? That's so funny. Yes. You have a
- 17:48Speaker 1: Dan the electrician?
- 17:49Speaker 2: Dan the electricians are great.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, if you're heading to work, you got your
- 17:54Speaker 1: latte in your hand. How much did you pay for
- 17:56Speaker 1: that latte?
- 17:57Speaker 2: Why does it cost seven bucks to get a latte
- 17:59Speaker 2: when you can make it for like a dollar at home?
- 18:01Speaker 1: Are they making money off this? Is it costing them
- 18:04Speaker 1: to make it? Is it more to make? I don't
- 18:06Speaker 1: understand what's going on.
- 18:07Speaker 2: This is pretty cool. So a barista went on TikTok
- 18:10Speaker 2: and broke it down for us. So somebody who works
- 18:12Speaker 2: in a coffee shop is letting us know why we're
- 18:15Speaker 2: paying $ 7 for the latte. He said the cup and
- 18:18Speaker 2: the lid cost $ 0.
- 18:19Speaker 1: 25.
- 18:19Speaker 2: The double shot of espresso cost the shop $ 0. 50. The
- 18:23Speaker 2: milk $ 0. 50. And the labor is about $ 19 an hour.
- 18:31Speaker 2: He says labor accounts for $ 3. 50 towards that latte.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I never thought of that, actually. You know, when you
- 18:38Speaker 1: buy coffee, you are paying the workers, too. Right.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And then they said they calculated this all together. The
- 18:45Speaker 2: latte contributes about a dollar toward rent and overhead costs.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Put it all together, the coffee shop is paying about
- 18:54Speaker 2: $ 5. 75 per latte. They need to turn a profit. You
- 18:58Speaker 2: end up with $ 7. 00.
- 19:00Speaker 1: So they're not necessarily crushing it. It does make sense, actually.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I can't believe I'm defending a $ 7 latte.
- 19:06Speaker 2: You and me both. I thought there would be like, oh,
- 19:08Speaker 2: it costs us $ 0. 20 to make it and you're paying $ 7.
- 19:12Speaker 2: But this is kind of breaking it down as to
- 19:14Speaker 2: why it's so expensive.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, because I just think of the ingredients. Like, how
- 19:18Speaker 1: much are all the ingredients? But you brought up, you're
- 19:21Speaker 1: paying the rent.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 1: You're paying the workers.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Is there ever a price that's just too high for
- 19:27Speaker 1: you that you won't do it? Like, that's it. I'm
- 19:29Speaker 1: just not going to buy it.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Sometimes. Sometimes I look at stuff.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And I do. And I'm like, this is crazy. But like,
- 19:34Speaker 2: if I've gone out of my way and I've got
- 19:36Speaker 2: a craving for whatever.
- 19:38Speaker 1: More cowbell?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Pumpkin spice latte, maybe.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It's like, all right, I'll do it. And I'll feel
- 19:44Speaker 2: like it's a splurge. And I just may not be
- 19:46Speaker 2: doing that too often.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I agree. All right, give us your thoughts on this.
- 19:50Speaker 1: $ 7 is the average for a latte. $ 4, $ 4, $ 3, $ 6, $ 3.
- 19:53Speaker 1: All right, coming up, we have some big things happening.
- 19:57Speaker 1: We have a flashback track for a great prize coming
- 19:59Speaker 1: up in 15 minutes. Clay Akin is back with new music.
- 20:03Speaker 1: He'll be joining us live at 8 o'clock. And also
- 20:05Speaker 1: in the 8 o'clock hour, we're giving out $ 500. It's
- 20:08Speaker 1: all right here on a Friday at Light FM.
- 20:11Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Variety from the 80s through today. That one from today.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Tyler and Chanel at Light FM with Cubby and Christine.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Producer Kristen. But it's Flashback Friday. Let's go back in
- 20:24Speaker 1: the day, Christine.
- 20:25Speaker 4: Okay.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'll play a clip of a song. You identify it.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Title an artist. And you win.
- 20:30Speaker 2: 1-800-222-1067.
- 20:32Speaker 1: What's our prize today, Christine?
- 20:34Speaker 2: Cubby, our winner, will receive tickets to New York City's
- 20:37Speaker 2: Ultimate Food and Wine Experience on Saturday, October 17th or Sunday,
- 20:41Speaker 2: October 18th at the NYC Wine and Food Festival. Taste
- 20:44Speaker 2: your way through hundreds of New York City's most celebrated restaurants,
- 20:48Speaker 2: sip premium wines and spirits, and see celebrity chefs and
- 20:51Speaker 2: Food Network stars live on the culinary demo stages.
- 20:55Speaker 1: It all comes together at NYC WFF's iconic Grand Tasting
- 20:59Speaker 1: overlooking the East River at the Seaport. Tickets are on
- 21:02Speaker 1: sale right now at nycwff.org, or you can win if
- 21:07Speaker 1: you call 1-800-222-1067. Identify this song, artist, and title from
- 21:12Speaker 1: back in the day. Do you know what that is?
- 21:16Speaker 1: One more time. Good luck from Light FM.
- 21:20Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Next on Light FM.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Good morning, Cubby and Christine, Light FM. We're doing a
- 21:27Speaker 1: flashback Friday track. Can you identify this song, title and artist?
- 21:33Speaker 1: Light FM, can you give us the title and artist
- 21:36Speaker 1: of that song?
- 21:37Speaker 2: The Promise, When I'm in Rome.
- 21:39Speaker 1: You know what, we're going to take that. It's called
- 21:41Speaker 1: The Promise by When in Rome is the group. But
- 21:44Speaker 1: we're going to give it to you. What's your name?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Chavito San Giorgio. And you're from where?
- 21:50Speaker 4: New York.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Mount Vernon. I'm sorry. Are you old enough to drink? Yes.
- 21:56Speaker 3: All right.
- 21:57Speaker 1: We're going to hook you up with NYC's ultimate food
- 22:00Speaker 1: and wine experience at the NYC Wine and Food Festival
- 22:04Speaker 1: in October. Okay.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Here we go. The year was 1988. Roseanne was one
- 22:10Speaker 1: of the biggest shows on TV, and this was one
- 22:12Speaker 1: of the biggest songs on the radio. The Promise by
- 22:15Speaker 1: Wind in Rome on Light FM.
- 22:18Speaker 4: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 22:23Speaker 1: This is so exciting. 106.7 Light FM. Cubby and Christine
- 22:26Speaker 1: in the morning. It's been almost two decades.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but I feel like I'm being reunited with an
- 22:31Speaker 2: old friend.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It feels like a rewind. Which we'll talk about in
- 22:35Speaker 1: a second. Clay Aiken is in the building.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Thank you. It's good to be back.
- 22:39Speaker 1: You really are back. You never went away, but you
- 22:41Speaker 1: are back with new music. Well, I mean, just back
- 22:43Speaker 1: here with y'all. It's been a while. Yeah, it all started.
- 22:46Speaker 3: What we were just talking about. She looks exactly the
- 22:48Speaker 3: same as I saw her last time.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I tell her that all the time. She's like, oh,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you're just being nice.
- 22:52Speaker 3: When I came in, I was like, wait a second,
- 22:54Speaker 3: I know you.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Because she looked exactly the same.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 22:57Speaker 3: It's really, really disgusting.
- 22:59Speaker 1: It's awful. It's very upsetting.
- 23:01Speaker 3: Because I'm sitting here tripping over my face as I
- 23:03Speaker 3: walk in the door.
- 23:03Speaker 2: I was going to say you're looking pretty good yourself.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Come on. Well, you're a morning person, you said.
- 23:07Speaker 3: I am a morning person.
- 23:08Speaker 1: You like getting up early?
- 23:09Speaker 3: I do. I was just saying. I've lived here for
- 23:12Speaker 3: a long time when my kid was a little younger.
- 23:16Speaker 3: I got up because you can take the dogs off
- 23:17Speaker 3: leash in the park before a certain hour.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 23:20Speaker 3: And so I learned to get up for that reason.
- 23:22Speaker 3: And the city never sleeps, obviously, but it does sleep
- 23:25Speaker 3: a little. It dozes between 3.30 and 5. And it
- 23:31Speaker 3: is just lovely.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That's what we're driving in. Right? Don't you love it?
- 23:34Speaker 1: I actually do love it.
- 23:36Speaker 2: It feels like it's just for us. We can cross
- 23:38Speaker 2: like the middle of 6th Avenue and there's no cars. Right.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Wherever we want. That and then... It does this until
- 23:44Speaker 3: 9 on January 1st. That's the best. After New Year's,
- 23:48Speaker 3: after New Year's Eve, after the stuff driving through Times Square.
- 23:50Speaker 1: And the tourists are gone.
- 23:52Speaker 3: It's a beautiful part. Those are the most beautiful times
- 23:54Speaker 3: in New York. And I don't recommend tourists looking at
- 23:56Speaker 3: them because we want them for ourselves.
- 23:59Speaker 1: So you have a place here in New York, but
- 24:00Speaker 1: you also, you mainly spend most of your time in
- 24:03Speaker 1: North Carolina, correct? I do, yeah. In Raleigh?
- 24:05Speaker 3: In Raleigh, yeah.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:06Speaker 3: I was born and raised, and I kind of wanted
- 24:09Speaker 3: my kid to grow up in the same place that
- 24:11Speaker 3: I grew up. He... It's at the same high school
- 24:13Speaker 3: I went to. He had my science teacher. Oh, wow.
- 24:17Speaker 3: He doesn't find it exciting at all. I tell it
- 24:19Speaker 3: all the time. I tell everybody, he had my science teacher.
- 24:21Speaker 3: And he's like, God, will you stop telling that? But
- 24:23Speaker 3: I think it's adorable. You know, I love it. And
- 24:25Speaker 3: I love that he kind of was able to grow
- 24:27Speaker 3: up around family and people who I knew and same
- 24:29Speaker 3: school and everything.
- 24:30Speaker 1: What's his name? Parker. And he's almost going to graduate.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he graduates this year.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So I have a six and a four-year-old, and I'm
- 24:36Speaker 1: in my 50s. So you started young. I feel like
- 24:40Speaker 1: I'm behind now.
- 24:41Speaker 3: For New York and LA and Chicago, I did start young.
- 24:46Speaker 3: But for Raleigh, I am... I'm practically a grandparent.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean, genuinely.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I was saying to somebody that all of his friends'
- 24:54Speaker 3: parents watched Idol. They'll say, oh, we watched you. And
- 24:58Speaker 3: I said, oh, we were in middle school. Get out
- 25:01Speaker 3: of my face.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's like, Kristen, you mentioned this off the air. When
- 25:04Speaker 1: people say to us, I grew up listening to you,
- 25:07Speaker 1: it's very flattering. but it's also kind of hurts.
- 25:10Speaker 3: But it makes my knees crack just a little bit more.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Because you look at the person and you're like, how
- 25:14Speaker 2: old are you exactly?
- 25:15Speaker 1: I know, I know.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Don't ever ask that question. That's a dangerous question because
- 25:19Speaker 3: when they say that they were six, it really hurts me.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I know, I know. Well, how has it been 18
- 25:25Speaker 1: years since your last album? And what made you want
- 25:28Speaker 1: to put out new music?
- 25:30Speaker 3: All the same. All the stuff we're talking about. I mean,
- 25:32Speaker 3: 18 years, Parker was born, he's 18 now. He was
- 25:34Speaker 3: born 18 years ago. And I didn't want to be
- 25:38Speaker 3: He was on the road so much in the early
- 25:40Speaker 3: after I'd spend 90% of the year on the road.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I didn't want to not be around, especially when he
- 25:46Speaker 3: started elementary school. I stayed in one place. And now
- 25:50Speaker 3: he's 18. He wants me out of the house. So
- 25:53Speaker 3: you're getting in your way.
- 25:54Speaker 1: You're about to be an empty nester. Yes, that's what
- 25:55Speaker 1: it is.
- 25:56Speaker 2: It's actually a good plan, Cubby, to get your own house. Like,
- 25:58Speaker 2: kick the parents out.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Right.
- 26:00Speaker 2: And the kid's like, hey, I got my own home.
- 26:02Speaker 3: He's very independent. He's actually independent. Well, I guess I
- 26:05Speaker 3: can say that he's by himself this week. He's 18 now,
- 26:08Speaker 3: so it's perfectly fine. He's by himself this week while
- 26:11Speaker 3: I'm up here. And he's doing perfectly well. He's doing great.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Is he into music? Is he you?
- 26:16Speaker 3: He was me to a disturbing degree until puberty hit.
- 26:22Speaker 3: And then we diverged.
- 26:24Speaker 2: It's time to change.
- 26:24Speaker 3: He's the straight kid and the gay dad. It didn't work.
- 26:28Speaker 3: We totally became different people when the hormones started hitting.
- 26:31Speaker 3: He's into cars. He's into planes. He's going to be
- 26:33Speaker 3: a pilot. He's very technical. He wants loud engines. And
- 26:36Speaker 3: I'm like, what? Where did you come from? I thought
- 26:39Speaker 3: you were going to go see a musical with me.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Oh, Christine can do that.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yes, I will do that.
- 26:45Speaker 1: She loves a good musical.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I'm trying to read. So, like, last time I saw you,
- 26:48Speaker 2: which I believe was Z100 Days, you were doing Broadway. Yeah,
- 26:52Speaker 2: I did.
- 26:52Speaker 3: I did Spamalot. You did Spamalot, yes. Almost 20 years ago, yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Well, thank you very much.
- 26:58Speaker 3: I loved it, and I loved the whole environment there. But, yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 3: he didn't get into that. And his uncle is David Foster.
- 27:06Speaker 3: His mom's brother is David Foster, which means his aunt
- 27:08Speaker 3: is Kat McPhee.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:09Speaker 3: So he has an aunt and a dad who came
- 27:11Speaker 3: in second on Idol. So music is in the family.
- 27:14Speaker 3: He grew up around it. And I think he just
- 27:17Speaker 3: wanted to be different.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Well, I want to talk about your new song.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Rewind. And then we'll come back and talk more with you.
- 27:22Speaker 1: But I heard this song for the first time from
- 27:25Speaker 1: one of your people. Send it to me.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Good for them.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And I'm not lying, Clay. My jaw dropped. It's my
- 27:32Speaker 1: kind of music. It has that retro feel.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Um, I'm a big fan of nostalgia. I know a
- 27:37Speaker 1: lot of people feel, look forward, don't look back. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: like doing both. Yeah. I want to look forward and
- 27:43Speaker 1: I like to look back and, and the video hit me, um,
- 27:46Speaker 1: the way you integrated the, your, your old idol contestants. Um,
- 27:50Speaker 1: tell us about rewind and the video. Tell me everything
- 27:53Speaker 1: before I play it.
- 27:53Speaker 3: It is probably, I mean, it's probably my favorite song
- 27:56Speaker 3: I've ever recorded, which was a surprise to me because
- 27:58Speaker 3: I don't, you know, I don't, haven't typically done uptempo stuff.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Um, but other than invisible many, many years ago and, and,
- 28:05Speaker 3: It came across the desk, so to speak, and my
- 28:08Speaker 3: jaw dropped too. I said, this is exactly what I
- 28:10Speaker 3: want to talk about. I knew exactly how it was.
- 28:12Speaker 3: It talks about The, you know, looking back to rekindle
- 28:17Speaker 3: the love you had for something, because I don't think
- 28:19Speaker 3: nostalgia necessarily has to mean looking back. It's about getting
- 28:22Speaker 3: a feeling, right? It's getting the feeling and the love
- 28:24Speaker 3: and the excitement that you had from something and using
- 28:28Speaker 3: it in present day to feel better. And when the
- 28:31Speaker 3: world's not great, sometimes we need that sort of reminder
- 28:35Speaker 3: of things that made us feel happy. You can't go
- 28:39Speaker 3: back and watch old Idol episodes. They don't exist, at
- 28:41Speaker 3: least not the good seasons. But you can watch your
- 28:46Speaker 3: old TV shows you like. And that's what this song is.
- 28:48Speaker 3: And for me, it was like, holy crap, this is
- 28:51Speaker 3: exactly what I want to say. Being away from the
- 28:55Speaker 3: stage for 15 years, from recording for 18 years, this was...
- 29:00Speaker 3: I could not feel luckier to have this song. I
- 29:03Speaker 3: wish I could take 100% of credit for it. I
- 29:05Speaker 3: think I sang it decently. But I didn't write it,
- 29:08Speaker 3: and I think it is just.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You hit some high notes there.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Oh, trust me. I've had to hit them a few
- 29:12Speaker 3: times in the morning, and that's not the easiest thing either.
- 29:15Speaker 3: But it's a great song, and I'm just lucky to
- 29:17Speaker 3: have it be a part of my return, so to speak.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Well, let's play it right now, okay? This is Clay Aiken.
- 29:22Speaker 1: He's live in studio, and this is Rewind. Light FM. Rewind.
- 29:29Speaker 4: More Covey and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Next on Light FM.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Rewind this. Clay Aiken, new music, Rewind. And he's live
- 29:39Speaker 1: in studio. It is.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Like I said, I don't usually just say thank you,
- 29:31Speaker 4: but I have to give credit to people who wrote that.
- 29:34Speaker 1: I mean, it is incredible. And to be back 20
- 29:37Speaker 1: years since 18 years since I've recorded.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Anything and to get something that good to record.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Yeah. is, I mean, I feel lucky.
- 29:55Speaker 1: And the video is amazing, by the way.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Oh, well, thank you. I wish I could take credit
- 29:58Speaker 3: for that, too, but I sure did look pretty.
- 30:00Speaker 1: But you were going through a box of all your
- 30:03Speaker 1: old stuff from 2003 and 2004 and almost laughing at yourself, like, oh,
- 30:06Speaker 1: my gosh. But we all do that.
- 30:08Speaker 3: I didn't even remember some of those pictures. They literally
- 30:11Speaker 3: didn't show me what was in the box when I
- 30:12Speaker 3: sat down. Those were genuine in the video.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Real reaction.
- 30:15Speaker 3: They would not tell me what was in it. They said,
- 30:16Speaker 3: open it on camera. And I went and I was like, oh,
- 30:18Speaker 3: my God, I don't remember that. But I can still
- 30:21Speaker 3: fit in that shirt.
- 30:22Speaker 2: So.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Do you keep in touch with anybody from the Idol days?
- 30:26Speaker 3: I mean, we do, and I found it surprising. Ruben
- 30:28Speaker 3: and I have stayed in touch. We toured together. We
- 30:31Speaker 3: did a show on Broadway in 2018 for Christmas, like
- 30:33Speaker 3: a little Christmas show. But we have a text thread
- 30:36Speaker 3: with all our season's finalists that we do happy birthdays
- 30:40Speaker 3: and that kind of thing. Folks have spread to the wind.
- 30:41Speaker 3: But our season was very, very tight-knit. We're the only
- 30:45Speaker 3: season that lived in a house together. And it also
- 30:48Speaker 3: was not a it wasn't as it wasn't as highly
- 30:52Speaker 3: produced back then. It was still very new. I don't
- 30:55Speaker 3: even think they expected to get a second season. They
- 30:57Speaker 3: got renewed. They were excited. And bam, we got thrown in.
- 31:01Speaker 3: And so I think and we also didn't know what
- 31:03Speaker 3: to expect. There were no stakes. We didn't realize that
- 31:06Speaker 3: whoever won or came in second was going to. It
- 31:09Speaker 3: was going to completely change their lives. So we all
- 31:12Speaker 3: went in thinking this is going to be a fun
- 31:13Speaker 3: thing to do. We're going to have memories and we're
- 31:14Speaker 3: going to go home and go back to our regular.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Wow.
- 31:17Speaker 3: So our season is very tight knit. I've been surprised
- 31:20Speaker 3: to learn that a lot of the other seasons don't
- 31:22Speaker 3: really stay in touch with each other. Which is sad.
- 31:24Speaker 3: It's just such a huge part of our lives, though.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Yeah. You guys bonded. I mean, you know, we saw
- 31:29Speaker 2: that playing out. Like, you looked like you had such
- 31:31Speaker 2: a beautiful bond with Reuben.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And all of it.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know if they cry when people
- 31:37Speaker 3: get cut now, but we really got upset when someone
- 31:39Speaker 3: would get cut and go home as much as we
- 31:41Speaker 3: were excited we weren't going home. We didn't want to
- 31:43Speaker 3: see anybody go.
- 31:44Speaker 1: When you came in second and Ruben won. Oh, don't
- 31:47Speaker 1: remind me. No, but you hugged him as if you won.
- 31:50Speaker 1: And I remember watching going, man, he wants to beat
- 31:53Speaker 1: him up.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I did not.
- 31:54Speaker 1: He's not that happy.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Well, that's a fight I would not pick right there.
- 31:59Speaker 1: But it is. No, I was.
- 32:01Speaker 3: And actually, I had seen the card backstage before we
- 32:04Speaker 3: walked on stage. I had. happened, Ryan was looking at
- 32:06Speaker 3: it and I'd happened to glance over and I saw
- 32:08Speaker 3: the name was longer than mine. And so I actually
- 32:10Speaker 3: knew when, right before that Ruben was going to, had won.
- 32:14Speaker 3: And so if you watch the video, I am looking
- 32:17Speaker 3: at him when the announcements made, because I just wanted
- 32:19Speaker 3: to see his face when he won and see his reaction.
- 32:21Speaker 3: We were, and we still, we're brothers. We, we talk
- 32:25Speaker 3: all the time. His birthday was last week. We talked
- 32:27Speaker 3: in a, He's older than me, just so we're clear. Okay,
- 32:31Speaker 3: got it.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Please make a note of this.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Make sure people remember.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Did you guys do a.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Little, you did a reunion recently, right?
- 32:36Speaker 1: We did a reunion.
- 32:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he did.
- 32:38Speaker 3: And that's honestly, I have to give Ruben a lot
- 32:40Speaker 3: of credit for me feeling like I wanted to do
- 32:42Speaker 3: music again. I had been stepped away and Ruben was
- 32:46Speaker 3: going to do a 20th anniversary tour of his own.
- 32:48Speaker 3: And he said, why don't you come out with me?
- 32:50Speaker 3: And I said, okay. I started looking at the timeline.
- 32:53Speaker 3: I only have a few more years before Parker's graduated.
- 32:56Speaker 3: And I said, okay, okay. I went out on the
- 32:58Speaker 3: road with him. Didn't expect to love it as much
- 33:01Speaker 3: as I did.
- 33:01Speaker 1: And I.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I absolutely love sharing the stage with him. And we
- 33:05Speaker 3: had such a great time. And I thought, okay, I
- 33:08Speaker 3: think I want to do this again.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And speaking of tour, you're going to be going on tour.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I am. In fact, you're going to be in our
- 33:14Speaker 1: area February 25th, Fairfield, Connecticut. February 27th, Inglewood, New Jersey.
- 33:18Speaker 1: February 28th, Newton, New Jersey. And you're doing a Vegas
- 33:22Speaker 1: residency too? I am, yes.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I've decided to just come back and just completely make
- 33:27Speaker 3: myself available. wear myself out in the first year. Do
- 33:29Speaker 3: it all. Completely burn out. Yes, everything. So yeah, my first,
- 33:32Speaker 3: I did it. We did a Christmas show in Vegas
- 33:34Speaker 3: in July. Just the Christmas in July fun thing because
- 33:37Speaker 3: I do love the Christmas stuff. And it went very well.
- 33:40Speaker 3: So they asked us to come back this Christmas for
- 33:42Speaker 3: a week. We're going to be a week in Vegas
- 33:44Speaker 3: in Harrah's December 18th through the 23rd.
- 33:48Speaker 1: You're correct, 23rd.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Thank you. Someone's got to get the notes. I'll show
- 33:52Speaker 3: up when they book my flight. And then yeah, my
- 33:55Speaker 3: first ever, well, first ever, my first solo tour in
- 33:59Speaker 3: 15 years I've been on the road with Ruben but
- 34:03Speaker 3: I have not been out on my own until those
- 34:05Speaker 3: dates that you just mentioned.
- 34:07Speaker 1: We play you every Christmas, by the way. We play
- 34:09Speaker 1: O Holy Night.
- 34:09Speaker 2: We played it this morning.
- 34:10Speaker 1: We played it this morning, actually.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Oh, did you?
- 34:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I said Clay Aiken's going to be here later,
- 34:13Speaker 1: and we started playing O Holy Night.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Listen, that's what people know me for. But now you
- 34:18Speaker 3: can play Rewind instead. Exactly. Because it's a banger, and
- 34:22Speaker 3: I have not had anything like that for you to
- 34:24Speaker 3: play in almost 20 years.
- 34:26Speaker 1: You're a cool dad, by the way. You said banger. Oh, no,
- 34:28Speaker 1: he would.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I probably should not have. Actually, as I was saying, honestly,
- 34:31Speaker 3: I'm telling you the truth, as it came out of
- 34:33Speaker 3: my mouth, I thought, did I use that right? Because
- 34:37Speaker 3: I think it's, I think, did I? I'm looking over,
- 34:39Speaker 3: I'm looking over at the very young people who, and
- 34:42Speaker 3: she's laughing, so maybe I didn't use it right.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Is it right?
- 34:44Speaker 3: Yeah. But what, people all say bop too, right?
- 34:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Is that more, is that better?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Is bop better than banger?
- 34:50Speaker 3: Oh, it's the same. It's a bop.
- 34:53Speaker 1: It's a bop.
- 34:53Speaker 3: I sound so young.
- 34:54Speaker 1: A clay bop, a clay bop. Well, Clay, last question.
- 34:58Speaker 1: New album coming out? Coming out with a new song?
- 35:00Speaker 3: Yep, comes out on Friday of next week.
- 35:02Speaker 1: It's called Rewind.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Called Rewind. It's a lot of it is.
- 35:08Speaker 3: It's very personal to me. I mean, I know everybody
- 35:10Speaker 3: says that when they come and talk to you. Oh,
- 35:11Speaker 3: it's my most personal album. But all of my albums
- 35:13Speaker 3: that I did before were sort of handed to me
- 35:15Speaker 3: by the label. The songs that I got for my
- 35:18Speaker 3: first album, I had within five days after Idol was over.
- 35:21Speaker 3: They were chosen for me. Concepts were given to me.
- 35:23Speaker 3: This time I got to... sit down with writers and say,
- 35:27Speaker 3: here's what I want to say. And so a lot
- 35:29Speaker 3: of it's kind of molded around Rewind. That song kind
- 35:32Speaker 3: of guided our direction for everything. But it's about stepping
- 35:36Speaker 3: into something you haven't done in a while. It's about
- 35:39Speaker 3: being happy for the experiences you have had. There are
- 35:42Speaker 3: songs on there about, you know, being nervous about what
- 35:45Speaker 3: might come next. So it's all really inspired by Rewind
- 35:51Speaker 3: the song itself. And so we thought, let's just call
- 35:53Speaker 3: it that. Plus, I'm getting old. My memory's bad. It's
- 35:55Speaker 3: easier to call the tour Rewind, the album Rewind, the
- 35:57Speaker 3: song Rewind. Let's just make it easier.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Don't forget that.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Way, yeah. Christine.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Yeah, seriously, you look like you're in a beautiful, happy space,
- 36:06Speaker 2: you know, and we're just so happy to see you again.
- 36:08Speaker 3: Well, thank you very much.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Thank you for coming in to visit.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Hey, everybody. It's back and
- 36:13Speaker 1: better than ever. Yeah.
- 36:14Speaker 3: All right, Light FM.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Party.
