Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a DM podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hey, dribblers. So this is pretending because we're not really
- 0:06Speaker 2: here where we're having a little bit of a break
- 0:08Speaker 2: at the moment, But we have recorded a summer series
- 0:11Speaker 2: that we're very excited about.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Cocktail.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Please, can you rub some oil on my back?
- 0:18Speaker 3: Get the bullboard to do that.
- 0:20Speaker 2: So those are all orders for me to go and fulfill.
- 0:22Speaker 2: By the way, so I should jump off this mic
- 0:23Speaker 2: and go and look after the women. But we've got
- 0:26Speaker 2: an amazing lineup of guests and each week we talk
- 0:28Speaker 2: to a different guest. We're very excited people who you
- 0:31Speaker 2: will know from netball and they've come in and had
- 0:34Speaker 2: just some really fabulous fun chats with us. So this
- 0:36Speaker 2: is our summer series. We hope you enjoy it.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Enjoy guys, Happy summer.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Bye. Well, welcome to the No Dribble Summer Season, the
- 0:57Speaker 2: podcast where we talk about netborl talk about a whole
- 1:00Speaker 2: lot more and where we have a special guest on.
- 1:03Speaker 2: And true to tradition, I'm going to ask Catherine to
- 1:07Speaker 2: guess who our wonderful guest is. She's got her gimp
- 1:10Speaker 2: mask on, she's looking fat.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I'm still waiting for the handcuffs.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I will give her some clues. Liz knows because she
- 1:18Speaker 2: doesn't have a mask on, but through the wonders of technology,
- 1:21Speaker 2: she can see who our guest is. But I'm going
- 1:24Speaker 2: to give you some clues, Cap and see how long
- 1:26Speaker 2: it takes you to guess who it is. I am
- 1:29Speaker 2: beside myself with excitement to Oh God, defense a wing defense. Sorry,
- 1:37Speaker 2: she is a wing defense. So our special guest is
- 1:40Speaker 2: coming into her fourth season in sun Corps Supernetball. So
- 1:44Speaker 2: she's okay, she's younger than all of us, most hard,
- 1:49Speaker 2: not hard. She is one hundred and seventy five centimeters tall,
- 1:53Speaker 2: taller than you. Also not hardp She needs to start
- 1:57Speaker 2: her netbal career as a goalkeeper.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Classic. Yeah.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So she's always been quite down to earth and at
- 2:05Speaker 2: the defense end of the court.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And I need to know what team or where she's from.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Well, if I tell you that you know the position,
- 2:11Speaker 2: we're going to go straight there. I'm trying to keep it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: She's a pisces.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Not helpful.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I don't know what that means fish apparently anyway, Born.
- 2:20Speaker 1: In March, is that right?
- 2:22Speaker 2: She's not our guest is nodding, born in born.
- 2:26Speaker 3: In the pisce is traits. Maybe that'll help me anyone.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Fish good for you?
- 2:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Full of Omeaga threes our not helpful?
- 2:39Speaker 1: You guys keep talking. I will google that excellent.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Our special guest's mother is a dribbler, and we have
- 2:46Speaker 2: spoken about her on the podcast before. She is apparently
- 2:50Speaker 2: quite an outstanding umpire because she understood how wing defenses
- 2:55Speaker 2: can be effective. So I've said that in the past.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yes, I remember this.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I appreciate attention to me, but I.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Need I also have some some traits for pisces, So
- 3:07Speaker 4: can I guess please not or shake her head when
- 3:09Speaker 4: I read some of these. We're going to go full
- 3:11Speaker 4: fifteen minutes before she even speaks anyway. Empathetic, Yeah, I'm
- 3:17Speaker 4: going to give her a yeah, an empathetic wing defense.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I don't narrow it down.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Romantic not romantic.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Apparently that's not and that was a grimace rather than
- 3:29Speaker 2: just shake of the head, that was an actual grimace there. Imaginative,
- 3:36Speaker 2: she's sort of shaking. Pleasure seeking, oh, I would hope.
- 3:41Speaker 5: So that's yes, yeah, empathetic, pleasure seeking, romantic, imaginative and
- 3:51Speaker 5: loves anything to do with the water.
- 3:53Speaker 1: There's a surprise oh okay.
- 3:55Speaker 2: She has a water bottle here and she's not anything to.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Do with the water and she bathes obviously.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Testify to that, or she did today. Anyway, she's in studio. Yeah,
- 4:08Speaker 2: she's in with me.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Oh okay, well that makes it easier.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Well I'm going to give you the one
- 4:14Speaker 2: that I reckon. You'll get it with, okay, drink of
- 4:17Speaker 2: choice apparol sprits.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Okay, alright, So firstly, she's a Sydney team because she's
- 4:22Speaker 6: in studio with you. That's helpful, and a winged fans
- 4:25Speaker 6: and apparol sprits. Not many people go for the old
- 4:28Speaker 6: fancy schmancy amparol spring.
- 4:30Speaker 2: It's an orange drink too.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Isn't it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It's Amy's not done. I thought you're going to go
- 4:41Speaker 1: j l P. Then the Giants defense was the aperol sprits.
- 4:44Speaker 1: It didn't I.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Did always because it's it's a young kids drink, isn't it.
- 4:48Speaker 3: The oldies just go straight for the you know whatever.
- 4:50Speaker 3: The what.
- 4:56Speaker 6: I was about to say, we don't do cocktails because
- 4:59Speaker 6: there's too much in the but you do do cocktails
- 5:01Speaker 6: and you do them well.
- 5:02Speaker 3: So that was just yeah, sorry, anyway, Hello.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Julie Drew Blue Julie. Yeah, yeah, but they were not
- 5:11Speaker 2: going to talk about her anymore because this is about you.
- 5:14Speaker 6: But we need to because Amy didn't tell us she
- 5:16Speaker 6: was coming on the podcast, did she No.
- 5:18Speaker 7: I kept that a secret from mom, So I can't wait.
- 5:21Speaker 7: She's going to drive to work listen to the podcast
- 5:23Speaker 7: as she always does, and she'll hear me. So I'm
- 5:25Speaker 7: looking forward to that phone call.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Fantastic, Amy, Amy.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Will Dulie be excited that you're on the podcast or
- 5:34Speaker 4: will she be crossed that you didn't tell her what
- 5:36Speaker 4: you're up to?
- 5:37Speaker 7: Oh? Probably a bit of both. And like, I can't
- 5:39Speaker 7: keep a secret, Like I'm the worst keeper of secret.
- 5:42Speaker 7: So she'll be shocked that I haven't just blabbed it
- 5:44Speaker 7: out to her, But she'll be stoked. I think the
- 5:47Speaker 7: fact that I'm sitting here talking to you guys, she'll
- 5:49Speaker 7: think that's pretty cool.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Well, we're starved too.
- 5:51Speaker 3: She may have warned you if you did tell her
- 5:54Speaker 3: and don't do it. Yeah, exactly, girls, that's not a
- 5:58Speaker 3: safe space.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Has off season trading you?
- 6:03Speaker 7: Yeah, it's been good. It's been busy. I feel like
- 6:05Speaker 7: often you think off season is going to be this
- 6:07Speaker 7: nice relaxing break, laying on the beach. But I've jam
- 6:11Speaker 7: packed it in and it's flown by. But it's been
- 6:12Speaker 7: really nice just to be able to spend time with family,
- 6:15Speaker 7: get a bit of UNI work done. What are you startying,
- 6:18Speaker 7: I'm doing biomedicine.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Fantastic, so I did.
- 6:21Speaker 7: I've done two subjects this semester, which doesn't sound like
- 6:24Speaker 7: a lot, but for me it's huge. I'm usually doing
- 6:26Speaker 7: one subject.
- 6:28Speaker 2: It's a lot when you have a time career.
- 6:30Speaker 7: Yeah, but no, it's been nice. Lots of walks with
- 6:32Speaker 7: the dog, which I don't usually get to do.
- 6:35Speaker 3: And did I see on your Gram that you went
- 6:37Speaker 3: to Tazzy?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I was in Tazzia.
- 6:39Speaker 3: That was Tazzy? What was that for? Because Julie Fitzgerald
- 6:42Speaker 3: was there as well?
- 6:43Speaker 7: Wash it? I know, maybe I thought it was I
- 6:50Speaker 7: had no idea she was even there, so it goes.
- 6:52Speaker 7: I mean, there's not many people in Tazzy, so I'm
- 6:54Speaker 7: surprised I didn't run into Yeah. No, it was lovely,
- 6:57Speaker 7: just a family holiday. My sister lives in Queensland and
- 7:00Speaker 7: Mum and Dad are out at home. I'm in the city,
- 7:02Speaker 7: so it was just an opportunity to get all together,
- 7:04Speaker 7: you know, no work, no, no live scanning, the way,
- 7:07Speaker 7: just go up for the long weekend. So it was
- 7:09Speaker 7: really good.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be awkward though if you were caught
- 7:12Speaker 4: by your teammates. Holiday with the coach.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Might not be interesting.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You mentioned his sister, now, did she?
- 7:20Speaker 4: Am I writing remembering that she had a contract or
- 7:23Speaker 4: as a training partner with Lightning?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 7:25Speaker 7: Yeah? Yeah, that's correct. She well, she was with the
- 7:27Speaker 7: Giants for a season and then she must have got
- 7:29Speaker 7: sick of me so headed up to Queensland and training
- 7:32Speaker 7: up with the Lightning. So she loves it there. She
- 7:34Speaker 7: gets to train with Carkna and Steph Wood like it's
- 7:37Speaker 7: just a dream for her. Natalie, Hi, Natalie, Yeah, okay.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Can we just point out that Amy also called her
- 7:44Speaker 6: Steph Wood one?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yes, that is true. Catherine has a frame lighting for
- 7:53Speaker 2: messing up well occasionally, and.
- 7:55Speaker 6: I appreciate animals sister that she because there's nothing worse.
- 8:01Speaker 6: And when sisters or twins are in the same team. Yes,
- 8:05Speaker 6: and they come on court and you're like, oh, hang
- 8:07Speaker 6: on a minute, I know it's a slider.
- 8:10Speaker 7: Jody Anne Ward came to our team this year and
- 8:12Speaker 7: she didn't even know there was two of us. She
- 8:14Speaker 7: just thought that I was like able to play wing
- 8:16Speaker 7: defense and goal attack and it was only like pre season.
- 8:19Speaker 7: Were chatting and she was like, no way, So there
- 8:23Speaker 7: you go.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I call that Lindsay Lohan movie once. Yeah, are you
- 8:26Speaker 2: the same?
- 8:29Speaker 1: That's upstanding. So has net debut yet in super Netbork.
- 8:33Speaker 7: No, she hasn't. She's played a few preseason games but
- 8:35Speaker 7: yet today boo. She sat on the bench one game
- 8:38Speaker 7: in Sydney as well, which was pretty cool. So we
- 8:40Speaker 7: want to watch that. And I've never been so excited
- 8:42Speaker 7: just to watch someone sit down and just clap their hands.
- 8:45Speaker 7: But like, I really hope she gets an opportunity because
- 8:47Speaker 7: she's so good and she's so talented. But yeah, she
- 8:50Speaker 7: works really hard, so that might come soon.
- 8:52Speaker 1: So is she younger or older?
- 8:54Speaker 7: She's two minutes older than me, so she'll make sure
- 8:56Speaker 7: that she reminds people she's older.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Oh you're actually twins? Yeah, oh my god, this will
- 9:01Speaker 2: be a nightmare for you if they're a team.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Here's a nightmare.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Are you identical twins?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 9:06Speaker 7: Oh my god, Yeah, it's not a Julie still calls
- 9:10Speaker 7: me Nat and that hasn't been at Giants for like
- 9:12Speaker 7: three years.
- 9:12Speaker 2: But we're talking about Julie Fitzgerald your.
- 9:16Speaker 7: Mom My mom is aware who we are. But Julie, yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 7: we'll be in a drill and Natalie go here on.
- 9:23Speaker 7: I yeah, yeah. To be fair though, Julie calls me
- 9:28Speaker 7: like Joe or or Jamie as well.
- 9:30Speaker 2: So I've just rolled with kids and I just through
- 9:32Speaker 2: all the dame whatever. You know who you are and
- 9:36Speaker 2: I'm shouting at you.
- 9:38Speaker 7: Yeah, you definitely know who she's shouting at.
- 9:41Speaker 1: So I mean you and your sister.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Obviously you love your Eddie, Your sister is a training
- 9:45Speaker 4: partner for lightning, and you're obviously a superstar with giants.
- 9:48Speaker 1: But you had options, didn't you.
- 9:50Speaker 4: You guys also like got selected in the Australian Schools
- 9:54Speaker 4: team all Australian Schools teams for a f l W.
- 9:57Speaker 4: So did you ever feel they know, talking about overag
- 10:00Speaker 4: I was only ever good at one sport. It's a
- 10:02Speaker 4: jealous of anyone who's remotely competent too. So did you
- 10:06Speaker 4: actually have to make a decision or was it always
- 10:09Speaker 4: you were going to go with Netbor?
- 10:10Speaker 7: No, definitely wasn't wasn't clear. I think growing up I
- 10:14Speaker 7: loved netbull. I always wanted to be a professional netballer,
- 10:16Speaker 7: and then AFL kind of came came along, and I'm
- 10:20Speaker 7: super lucky that I grew up in the generation where
- 10:22Speaker 7: women's sport is huge, and like the AFLW was kind
- 10:25Speaker 7: of coming in as I was a kid, so I
- 10:28Speaker 7: had those options. Started playing footy and I loved it,
- 10:31Speaker 7: and I probably didn't realize that I was good at netball,
- 10:34Speaker 7: so I thought football was going to be my where
- 10:37Speaker 7: I wanted to be a professional athlete. So yeah, I
- 10:39Speaker 7: guess just played both as much as I could, and
- 10:41Speaker 7: everyone always said you're going to have to make a
- 10:43Speaker 7: decision eventually, but I just honestly loved both, so I
- 10:46Speaker 7: was like, I'll never have to choose, like I'll just
- 10:48Speaker 7: always play both. But as you move up the levels,
- 10:51Speaker 7: you kind of have to have to choose, just based
- 10:53Speaker 7: off like commitment and training and traveling. So I was
- 10:57Speaker 7: probably going to choose footy. And then I was like
- 11:00Speaker 7: enough to be picked up by the giants in the
- 11:02Speaker 7: academy or like reserve grade team, so I played A
- 11:05Speaker 7: and L and I was quite young, so I knew
- 11:07Speaker 7: that opportunity I had to take with two hands, so
- 11:09Speaker 7: I gave footy break. Yeah what, Yeah, I like we
- 11:12Speaker 7: did that.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 7: Nice. No, No, I thought I would just stop.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Really contributed. I know that's great and it's really great.
- 11:22Speaker 7: No, I honestly thought I would put it on hold
- 11:24Speaker 7: for twelve months and then come back to it or
- 11:26Speaker 7: six months come back to it. But then the following year,
- 11:29Speaker 7: Julie signed me as a training partner then in the team.
- 11:31Speaker 7: So I've never gone back to footage. But I see
- 11:34Speaker 7: the girls running on the on the oval. Obviously they're
- 11:37Speaker 7: training at the same facilities, usn't I always have that
- 11:40Speaker 7: That looks like fun, but very much more fun.
- 11:43Speaker 6: Yes, on that then, though, because you're not dead yet obviously,
- 11:47Speaker 6: and Ash Brazil and Verity.
- 11:49Speaker 2: She's not a doctor, okay, so.
- 11:51Speaker 6: Just nowhere near it. And Verity Simmons. Do you take
- 11:55Speaker 6: a bit of you know, encouragement from that because they
- 11:57Speaker 6: actually finished their whole careers neble done, like they're old
- 12:01Speaker 6: athletes and now they've gone to the AFL.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Is that something you think about?
- 12:05Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean never say never. I actually went to
- 12:07Speaker 7: the Giants game and they played the Eagles. So Veritis
- 12:09Speaker 7: Simmons was playing there and I was watching her, and yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 7: I think so I think that'd be good fun. Why not?
- 12:15Speaker 2: You're in the right club exactly right.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Yeah, most of our staff work across both programs and yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 7: you never know, but I think for now my focus
- 12:24Speaker 7: is Netbull. But yeah, I think why not?
- 12:27Speaker 2: What happened in your family? Like so they're just the
- 12:30Speaker 2: two of you simply yeah yeah, okay, so what did
- 12:32Speaker 2: your parents feed you? And were you in some type
- 12:34Speaker 2: of training academy from birth? Like this is we're going
- 12:37Speaker 2: to make like the Russians.
- 12:40Speaker 7: There no, no, no, no, honestly, like my mom played
- 12:48Speaker 7: netble but and she'll be listening and she'll hate me
- 12:50Speaker 7: for saying this, but like she wasn't very good, like
- 12:52Speaker 7: she just played. I know, I'm sorry, mum. But and
- 12:55Speaker 7: then my dad like he's got the classic like I
- 12:58Speaker 7: would have played first grade football if I didn't do
- 13:00Speaker 7: knee kind of thing, you know.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 7: My uncles were always sporty, but like just a normal
- 13:06Speaker 7: sporting Australian family, I think where we just grew up
- 13:08Speaker 7: with sports. So we watched netball, we played netble, we umpired,
- 13:12Speaker 7: we coached, We same with football athletics. Like whatever we did,
- 13:16Speaker 7: we just went in hard. And Dad was on the barbecue.
- 13:19Speaker 7: Mum was always there, so I guess when you're just
- 13:21Speaker 7: surrounded by it, you've got no choice. And I don't know.
- 13:24Speaker 7: We're super competitive, so that probably makes us want to
- 13:27Speaker 7: be better than each other. And then eventually that's so.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Do you just not ever play Monopoly?
- 13:32Speaker 7: No, like we do and it never ends well, like
- 13:35Speaker 7: it's so bad?
- 13:38Speaker 3: Did Dad pull out that? Oh? If I didn't bust
- 13:40Speaker 3: my knee, I would have won that game?
- 13:43Speaker 7: Was it for the older knee reconstruction? I would have
- 13:45Speaker 7: got mayfair Damn?
- 13:47Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly though, because you're only like you're trying to
- 13:53Speaker 4: not lose.
- 13:54Speaker 1: That's the whole point of it. There's no way you
- 13:55Speaker 1: can act like I just hate and I will.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Say, going back to your mum, Julie, what an excellent
- 14:00Speaker 4: piece of time management.
- 14:01Speaker 1: One pregnancy, two keys.
- 14:03Speaker 7: Done exactly one twenty first one eighteenth, one lot of
- 14:07Speaker 7: driving lessons like she knows each boob.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Although I might me yes, I thought at one stage
- 14:18Speaker 2: I wanted twins, and now I go I just I
- 14:20Speaker 2: couldn't have hacked it. I'm not. I was not cut out.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I was barely cut out for one baby at the time.
- 14:25Speaker 7: My mum's a legend. So thanks Julie.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Good work. We're surrounded by Julie's.
- 14:30Speaker 7: I know everywhere. I have to be careful when I'm
- 14:33Speaker 7: emailing like Julie Fitzgerald not to send it to Julie
- 14:35Speaker 7: Slager or vice versa.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, could come on, just always save it to draft.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Can you please do my washing?
- 14:45Speaker 2: Hey, Julie Fitzgerald, can you pick me up? I'm pissed
- 14:47Speaker 2: and at two am? Apparently that's part of the deal.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Well, it is if she likes you or not. You
- 14:54Speaker 4: know when you are drunk. Julie Fitzgeral's an excellent person
- 14:57Speaker 4: to call. But the professional era things might she might
- 15:00Speaker 4: have changed.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Yeah, she will know fastle hill for you if you
- 15:03Speaker 3: need it to.
- 15:04Speaker 1: She might have.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Rided up to your bullshit too. And the next generation
- 15:07Speaker 2: you've got it harder. Hey, we have to put you
- 15:10Speaker 2: into Coxy's hot box now, which.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Hang on before we do, can I ask another question?
- 15:15Speaker 4: It's a question about the Jueliers, right, So you know,
- 15:17Speaker 4: I just love like we Catherine and I do consider
- 15:20Speaker 4: like Julia Fitzgerald as a mother figure and you've got
- 15:22Speaker 4: two Jueli's as a mother figure. But I was thinking
- 15:25Speaker 4: about your mum as you were growing up, and you
- 15:26Speaker 4: said that, Yeah, your mum and your dad were always there.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Your mom's a massive Nettie fan, and we know that
- 15:31Speaker 1: she's a dribbler, so you've got to say kind things.
- 15:33Speaker 4: But I'm always fascinated when you speak to athletes about
- 15:36Speaker 4: how push you their parents were when they were younger,
- 15:39Speaker 4: and whether your parents sort of sat back and went, look,
- 15:41Speaker 4: we'll support you all the way, or whether they.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Pushed you along, like how would you and.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Then there'd be a lot of feech Natalie more than you.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, a favorite. It's okay to have a favorite.
- 15:54Speaker 1: But can you tell us what your mum was like
- 15:56Speaker 1: and your dad? What's your dad's name, Damien? So what Jewels?
- 16:02Speaker 7: All my friends call him Damo and he loves it.
- 16:04Speaker 7: This is real quick and I'm like, it's just embarrassing dad.
- 16:09Speaker 7: If you played that, it's very cool.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yeah, So what how are Jewels and Dama as you
- 16:14Speaker 4: were growing up, Like, were they massively invested or did
- 16:17Speaker 4: they sit back.
- 16:17Speaker 1: A little bit and let you guys do what you
- 16:19Speaker 1: wanted to do.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Oh?
- 16:20Speaker 7: I think they were. They were invested in the fact
- 16:22Speaker 7: that they just wanted the best for us, But they
- 16:24Speaker 7: never ever pushed us. They never said that you have
- 16:27Speaker 7: to be a professional athlete like I think they just yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 7: they just wanted us to be happy. And for Nat
- 16:32Speaker 7: and I, playing sport was our happy place. So they
- 16:34Speaker 7: were going to do everything they could to provide that
- 16:36Speaker 7: for us. But yeah, they were more than happy. I
- 16:38Speaker 7: guess if we I did tennis for a little bit
- 16:41Speaker 7: and they took me to tennis, and then when I
- 16:43Speaker 7: was done with that, they're okay, like, what do you
- 16:45Speaker 7: want to do now? My sister did gymnastics and that
- 16:47Speaker 7: wasn't for me. Like they honestly just were there for
- 16:50Speaker 7: us whatever we wanted to do. And I think that's
- 16:52Speaker 7: why Nat and I have succeeded because they they never
- 16:56Speaker 7: put any pressure on us. They never expected anything of us.
- 16:59Speaker 7: They just honest they wanted us to be happy. And
- 17:01Speaker 7: and you play your best when you're happy. I think
- 17:03Speaker 7: that goes without saying. So, yeah, I think they are
- 17:07Speaker 7: very grateful for them, And yeah, I can't complain. They
- 17:11Speaker 7: they gave us the best environment to succeed without without
- 17:14Speaker 7: putting any pressure on.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You.
- 17:21Speaker 6: So AND's apologies for the name because we kind of
- 17:24Speaker 6: didn't know what to call this, but it's quick fire.
- 17:27Speaker 3: There's a few quick fire questions.
- 17:29Speaker 6: Is if it turns into longer answers, that's completely fine.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Okay, are you ready for Coxies hot Box?
- 17:35Speaker 2: I really think we need T shirts. If we'd say,
- 17:40Speaker 2: can I have one?
- 17:43Speaker 3: I've been in and all I got was this lousy
- 17:49Speaker 3: and all I got was dribble.
- 17:55Speaker 2: We're still working on merch ideas. But when marketing.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Wizs, I'm so sorry.
- 18:01Speaker 3: I mean, this is great.
- 18:02Speaker 1: This is this is pretty much how we roll.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great.
- 18:05Speaker 1: It's never any more professional than this.
- 18:07Speaker 3: This T shirt has to happen. Okay, Oh that was brilliant.
- 18:10Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:11Speaker 6: There is a cream for after you get out of
- 18:13Speaker 6: coffee top box too, by the way.
- 18:14Speaker 2: A right, okay, so should be drink?
- 18:18Speaker 3: Are we ready coffee?
- 18:20Speaker 7: Order a mocker?
- 18:23Speaker 3: Oh?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you have to change that when you're
- 18:28Speaker 2: twenty five.
- 18:29Speaker 7: I do like Laties, but I just enjoyed Mockers. So yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 3: The girls tried to get that out of it, force
- 18:35Speaker 3: that out of it.
- 18:36Speaker 7: Yeah. Well, the onlyson I even started drinking them was
- 18:39Speaker 7: because I went to I was in the Giants A
- 18:40Speaker 7: and L squad and I was like sixteen. Never had
- 18:42Speaker 7: a coffee in my life and I sat on a manger,
- 18:45Speaker 7: hating every sip of it. But I just had to
- 18:47Speaker 7: be cool with the older girls.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Sollas did to our team one time early days, Kim
- 18:53Speaker 6: Green and Vanessa where when we went out for dinner,
- 18:56Speaker 6: would have their steak well done.
- 18:58Speaker 7: I haven't well done those I.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Give me judgment. We're all about judgments. Stop pretending we're
- 19:08Speaker 2: not judging.
- 19:09Speaker 3: I wanted to come back. She didn't. She whapped that
- 19:15Speaker 3: out of them.
- 19:15Speaker 6: And now Kim Green will always tell the story of
- 19:18Speaker 6: how grateful she is to lise Ella's because now she
- 19:20Speaker 6: has her steak medium and she loves it.
- 19:23Speaker 7: Foo it's meant to be cooked. Though food is meant
- 19:25Speaker 7: to be it's not right not and.
- 19:26Speaker 4: So so amy. I'm going to call here that I'm
- 19:31Speaker 4: married to a farmer. We grow beautiful beef.
- 19:34Speaker 1: It makes me.
- 19:35Speaker 4: It brings me to tears, the thought of somebody turning
- 19:38Speaker 4: my beautiful beef into some charred, dead remains of something
- 19:42Speaker 4: that used to be delicious.
- 19:43Speaker 1: So I hope that makes you feel guilty.
- 19:46Speaker 2: I say, my father in law used to come to
- 19:50Speaker 2: our house and have a glass of red wine, half
- 19:52Speaker 2: a glass of red wine and put lemonade in it
- 19:54Speaker 2: and it would dry. And then after a while I thought, whatever,
- 20:00Speaker 2: have it the way you wanted. So I just gave
- 20:02Speaker 2: him obviously crappy red wine after that. And it's like,
- 20:06Speaker 2: if you're going to have it, have it the way
- 20:07Speaker 2: you want it.
- 20:08Speaker 4: You're losing the opportunity, right, So I'm not going to lie.
- 20:13Speaker 4: I used to have my meat well done. And Keiley
- 20:17Speaker 4: Devy for the Diamonds player, yep, she will.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Actually situation for the name No Dribble.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Inspiration for the name No Dribble.
- 20:25Speaker 4: But we had a tour and after a tour to Europe,
- 20:28Speaker 4: we went in a little van and drove around France.
- 20:31Speaker 4: There was a few of us and she basically ran
- 20:33Speaker 4: the tour because she was a massive foodie.
- 20:34Speaker 1: And we went to this.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Restaurant in Paris and I ordered steak and I said
- 20:38Speaker 4: well done and the way to pull the face, and
- 20:41Speaker 4: then came back to about two minutes later and said,
- 20:43Speaker 4: and I won't do a French accent, okay.
- 20:45Speaker 1: And said no, no, no.
- 20:47Speaker 4: The chef says, you know you won't cook the steak
- 20:50Speaker 4: well done, and so I had to have a medium,
- 20:52Speaker 4: which was great, and I was like, this is a revelation,
- 20:55Speaker 4: and so I thought I needed to pass it forward,
- 20:57Speaker 4: and so we educated Kim Green, and I don't know
- 21:01Speaker 4: we ever got to Prattley, did we get to that
- 21:02Speaker 4: point where she medium?
- 21:05Speaker 1: But I just do me a favor. I'm actually I'm not.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I'm not your teammateing more so, I can't bully you
- 21:11Speaker 4: into this, but can you please, can you please just
- 21:14Speaker 4: have a steak cooked medium and come back to it
- 21:17Speaker 4: and let ustone what you think.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Surely she's allowed to into it and do a medium? Well,
- 21:23Speaker 3: the band aid off.
- 21:25Speaker 7: I can do that for the for the sake of
- 21:26Speaker 7: the next generation of Netballs and next holidays. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 7: our next holiday. Yeah, we're off.
- 21:35Speaker 4: And then when you're fifty, you'll tell the story of
- 21:37Speaker 4: how Lije has talked you into it. But then how
- 21:40Speaker 4: you had a heap of teammates who because you'll be
- 21:42Speaker 4: a giant when you're thirty five, and you took them out,
- 21:44Speaker 4: you said to them, you have to eat it medium
- 21:46Speaker 4: and like.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And then this, this.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Beautiful tradition of perfectly cooked meat gets passed.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Along from one generation.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Listen to the farm wife.
- 21:55Speaker 2: And I will say she's gone from Coxies hot box
- 21:58Speaker 2: to Ellis's.
- 22:06Speaker 3: We'll get back to the lemon.
- 22:10Speaker 7: Summer or winter summer.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Okay, if you had a choice between a cock, well,
- 22:15Speaker 6: let's just go between wine and champagne.
- 22:18Speaker 7: Oh, it depends what type of event, but I'm going
- 22:20Speaker 7: to say champagne.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Oh, I love the the funniest teammatee.
- 22:25Speaker 2: You're glad to say yourself.
- 22:26Speaker 7: Oh, I wouldn't do that. I'd get bullied for the
- 22:28Speaker 7: rest of my life just so much. I'm going to
- 22:30Speaker 7: say Jodian Ward, but like accidentally, she's.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Yeah, did see a bit blode? Yeah?
- 22:37Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, favorite sport not nepple.
- 22:41Speaker 3: But you also can't.
- 22:42Speaker 6: Say I fl w Now we know, okay, athlete can
- 22:48Speaker 6: be okay, nice one. What was your event in athletics,
- 22:51Speaker 6: and when you said you did atics growing up, what.
- 22:53Speaker 7: Was actually did the steeple chase, the one with the
- 22:57Speaker 7: water jump and the hurdles?
- 22:58Speaker 2: Did you ever catch the steep No?
- 23:00Speaker 7: Never?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, but you were good at that?
- 23:03Speaker 7: Yeah, I went all right because running around like I
- 23:05Speaker 7: do the three K and I was okay. But I
- 23:07Speaker 7: add some jumps. It kind of evened out so I
- 23:09Speaker 7: could get away with being a little bit slower but
- 23:11Speaker 7: I could jump, so yeah, I did that for ages. Yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 7: fifteen hundred.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And three quater on the other side.
- 23:18Speaker 7: Yeah, there's I think there's like a couple without water
- 23:21Speaker 7: and then there's one hurdle jump every lap.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Wow.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're running with squelchy sneakers. Yeah, must be annoying.
- 23:28Speaker 7: Yeah, but I was running so fast they drive you know.
- 23:32Speaker 3: A lot of that.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I will say, Amy, I read this sad about you
- 23:35Speaker 4: when I was doing my research. You're a stated silver
- 23:38Speaker 4: medallist in the steple chase three thousand meters steeple chase.
- 23:41Speaker 7: Yeah, there are good I reach.
- 23:42Speaker 1: What are you doing?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Wow, We've been talking to you and you haven't mentioned that,
- 23:48Speaker 2: but these two you get them in a room. Ninety
- 23:50Speaker 2: seconds later, you're talking about the bloody World Cup.
- 23:52Speaker 7: Okay, I think the world cuts a bit different. I
- 23:56Speaker 7: actually will.
- 23:57Speaker 2: We'll test that when you find a World cu true.
- 23:59Speaker 7: I held the World Cup. The other day. We're in
- 24:01Speaker 7: an event and I got to touch which was pretty cool.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Just a little side note.
- 24:04Speaker 6: You know, Carrol and got barred from the stiffle chase
- 24:07Speaker 6: because she ran under the bar.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Limbo, Limbo, everybody, limbo.
- 24:15Speaker 1: She really drowned in the.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Friends.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Here we go, all right, best holiday destination.
- 24:29Speaker 7: Europe, Greece, anywhere like that.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Nice?
- 24:31Speaker 6: Okay.
- 24:31Speaker 3: What do you do on the plane on a long flight?
- 24:34Speaker 7: I do arrow words or souku's or it's a crossword
- 24:40Speaker 7: but better okay, yeah, yeah, trim your toenails on the plane.
- 24:45Speaker 2: No, that's the right answer. Good. Who does I don't
- 24:48Speaker 2: know people? Cath Metes on the plane.
- 24:51Speaker 6: Next to all the crazy All right, what are you
- 24:53Speaker 6: binging right now?
- 24:55Speaker 7: I don't really watch TV, so nothing.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Okay, great, team mate.
- 25:02Speaker 7: Oh it was Amy Palmento. But she's she's left us.
- 25:07Speaker 7: Maybe Joe Harden's locker is so messy. She's got stuff everywhere,
- 25:11Speaker 7: so you say her.
- 25:11Speaker 6: But okay, my CD is kicking and I'll come and
- 25:14Speaker 6: clean them for her next week. Do you have any tattoo?
- 25:17Speaker 3: Do you have any ink?
- 25:19Speaker 7: No?
- 25:20Speaker 2: The clean skinto.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Favorite music genre? Are you into cow techno?
- 25:29Speaker 2: What is tech? It's a hybrid between country music and techno.
- 25:33Speaker 2: It's new. I'm not sure it'll catch on.
- 25:36Speaker 7: No, I'm into country music.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yeah, god damn it with the country music.
- 25:42Speaker 3: That's it? Yeah, us, well done.
- 25:43Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 25:45Speaker 2: There's no fail though, is there?
- 25:47Speaker 3: So she survived?
- 25:50Speaker 7: To people come out dead or something? Also Okay, I'm.
- 25:59Speaker 4: Fruscinated that that Joe has has an untidy locker. She
- 26:02Speaker 4: saydsarly a woman who is in control of everything, especially
- 26:06Speaker 4: when I was watching her be the assistant coach in
- 26:08Speaker 4: England running that show.
- 26:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I think, well, she has a messy car and
- 26:15Speaker 7: she recently changed her car over.
- 26:17Speaker 2: It was easier to sell it than clean it.
- 26:20Speaker 7: No, no, she gets given come on down. But yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 7: so she just took everything, like her whole boot and
- 26:26Speaker 7: just put it in the chain room. She had this
- 26:28Speaker 7: massive trolley. Her locker was filled field of staff. I
- 26:31Speaker 7: think because she wants a clean house, so she thinks
- 26:34Speaker 7: if it's not in her house she likes. She's got
- 26:37Speaker 7: sheets that she bought and they're the wrong size and
- 26:39Speaker 7: they're on sales, so she can't return them. But she
- 26:41Speaker 7: doesn't want to take them home because you're get in
- 26:43Speaker 7: trouble for buying them.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Send them to Lizella's who'll put them on her desk
- 26:47Speaker 2: behind her there for three months.
- 26:49Speaker 4: I took that purchase to Saint Vincent de Paul because
- 26:53Speaker 4: I missed of date to return them. So there's a
- 26:55Speaker 4: beautiful care of Jean's with the swing tag on them
- 26:59Speaker 4: at Vinnie's in Ballo if you're interested.
- 27:03Speaker 6: Because I can see plenty of Ballona grannies rocking around
- 27:05Speaker 6: in your so leather pants.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Well, given the myst sixteen year old niece thought that
- 27:10Speaker 4: should only wear them if it was dressed up.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Yeah, the grannies anyway.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Besides the point, hey, Amy, tell us about the Giants preseason, Like,
- 27:19Speaker 4: given that you had like such a heartbreaking into last
- 27:22Speaker 4: season with so many games that you lost just by
- 27:25Speaker 4: a couple nothing, Carolyn's not quite over it yet, does
- 27:29Speaker 4: that drive you in the preseason or do you forget
- 27:31Speaker 4: about it?
- 27:31Speaker 1: And I just think this is a new yi.
- 27:33Speaker 7: Oh, you never forget about it. I think it definitely
- 27:36Speaker 7: drives you. And there was sparked you know, conversations, and
- 27:40Speaker 7: I guess towards the end of the season, what we're
- 27:43Speaker 7: going to do different, how we're going to be better.
- 27:44Speaker 7: And you look at the league, it's so close and
- 27:47Speaker 7: it's like these tiny, tiny little things you need to
- 27:50Speaker 7: do to get over the top of your opposition. So
- 27:53Speaker 7: I don't think we need a revolutionize what we do.
- 27:55Speaker 7: It's just about little kind of finishing touches and yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 7: working hard in the gym, on the off court, as
- 28:01Speaker 7: well as just as important watching video. I mean, yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 7: it's all those little things that add up. So yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 7: it's gonna be a tough preseason. I think, lots of running,
- 28:10Speaker 7: lots of gym, but preseason's kind of my favorite time
- 28:13Speaker 7: of the year, which is crazy, Yeah, one of those
- 28:15Speaker 7: I know.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah, what is it about it that that's your favorite?
- 28:21Speaker 7: I think just rocking up every day and like, all
- 28:23Speaker 7: you have to do is just train and try and
- 28:24Speaker 7: get better. There's no pressure of the game, like you know,
- 28:28Speaker 7: it's just, yeah, you're kind of in control. There's there's
- 28:32Speaker 7: no external factors that play into it. So I kind
- 28:34Speaker 7: of like that that feeling whereas you know, you rock
- 28:37Speaker 7: up to a game and there's other factors that play
- 28:39Speaker 7: into it. You've got you know, crowds, you've got you've
- 28:41Speaker 7: got the other team, umpires, like everything like that that
- 28:45Speaker 7: plays into it. So it's so out of your control
- 28:46Speaker 7: and you can do it. You can do but it's
- 28:48Speaker 7: not everything.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So tough end of season, like I reckon, Yeah, you
- 28:51Speaker 2: know those last five games ten goals difference, you guys
- 28:53Speaker 2: could have been in the finals. It's just it was
- 28:56Speaker 2: insane how close it was.
- 28:57Speaker 7: And yeah, I mean it makes your excite netball, but
- 29:00Speaker 7: it's it's tough as a play.
- 29:02Speaker 2: When you're exciting about twenty twenty five, don't so true.
- 29:05Speaker 2: So this is a new netball year, you know that.
- 29:06Speaker 2: We don't wait for the calendar year. Here we go. Well,
- 29:09Speaker 2: once it's once the Grand Final has played Super Nepple,
- 29:12Speaker 2: the next day it's a new year.
- 29:13Speaker 7: No, that's seen as me. So I'll be talking about, oh,
- 29:15Speaker 7: last year and I'm talking about like hey, yeah, and
- 29:18Speaker 7: people look at me like I've got two heads, and
- 29:20Speaker 7: I'm like it was last year, Like yeah.
- 29:23Speaker 3: Well go to the giants. We're so happy that to
- 29:26Speaker 3: have you in the studio today.
- 29:27Speaker 6: Thank you for your time as well, and we hope
- 29:29Speaker 6: you have a massive twenty twenty five.
- 29:32Speaker 7: Absolutely, thank you so much, coming so much fun, So
- 29:36Speaker 7: thank you, and.
- 29:36Speaker 4: We hope we hope that gets a debut, and hope
- 29:40Speaker 4: Jewels and dam I have a big twenty twenty five too.
- 29:42Speaker 7: Oh, don't worry, they'll be at all the games cheering
- 29:44Speaker 7: us on.
- 29:45Speaker 2: So if you see them, Catherine Cox has never been
- 29:49Speaker 2: this nice to a wing defense before, so I appreciate
- 29:52Speaker 2: changing the tide there that. Yeah, this has been notable
- 29:55Speaker 2: summer series thanks so much for listening. Thanks Amy Sliger
- 29:58Speaker 2: for joining us. I'm Carolyn swind Well.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I've done that, haven't I.
- 30:05Speaker 4: But you know, Catherine's on a delay, so I think
- 30:08Speaker 4: that she's not saying anything because she's a delay to me.
- 30:11Speaker 1: So I'll just let her go. Should be starting to see, Amy,
- 30:14Speaker 1: we are, we are slick.
- 30:17Speaker 2: It's a very professional.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Now.
- 30:19Speaker 2: I think we leave it like this, put it to
- 30:20Speaker 2: where let people see us walks in it. So I'm
- 30:22Speaker 2: going to say to you, I'm Carolyn Swindell, You're Katherine Cox,
- 30:26Speaker 2: your zealous. This has been Amy Sliger, We've been no dribble.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Let's catch up next week.
- 30:30Speaker 5: Bye bye bye
