- 1:34Speaker 3: Mr.
- 1:35Speaker 2: DX wants to know on the Cowboy Melanies text line,
- 1:36Speaker 2: does he have to sleep with a pig if he moved?
- 1:39Speaker 2: So it looks like your place is going to be
- 1:40Speaker 2: the place we're sending folks now if they've lost their
- 1:43Speaker 2: houses on gambling. We've already got the real unnamed texter
- 1:46Speaker 2: coming in. Is DX sleeping with a pig?
- 1:49Speaker 3: No.
- 1:50Speaker 4: So the pig doesn't live at my house.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Oh, OK.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Me and my lady friend have separate dwellings. So while
- 1:58Speaker 4: we share custody of this pig, the pig. Stays at
- 2:01Speaker 4: her house. So no, DX, you've got a nice clean floor.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I'll say it again. I make an awesome palette. I
- 2:10Speaker 4: used to be very proud of my palette making skills. DX,
- 2:14Speaker 4: come on. Real name Texter didn't sound too excited about
- 2:18Speaker 4: my offerings. So I've got a sweet palette waiting on you.
- 2:22Speaker 4: I have cooked steaks and Greek yogurt in the fridge.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I like this offering. This is a great place for
- 2:30Speaker 2: anybody that loses their homes for gambling. Are you going
- 2:34Speaker 2: to charge them, though?
- 2:37Speaker 4: It depends. Depends on who we're talking about.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. Let's see. PT for MSU just got
- 2:42Speaker 2: in the truck. Have we already discussed the TCU-UNC game? Laughing. Yes,
- 2:45Speaker 2: we did. Hey, look, I can't help that it rained
- 2:48Speaker 2: in Dublin, like torrential downpour, and then TCU read the
- 2:53Speaker 2: press clippings. They should have never lost that game. They
- 2:57Speaker 2: fiddle-farted around and let Belichick hang around. Did you see
- 3:00Speaker 2: the photos? Man, he looks old. Out there drenched in
- 3:02Speaker 2: rain in a hoodie. Yeah, he looked like something off
- 3:05Speaker 2: Star Wars. Let's see here. J.C., Brandon and the Picks
- 3:09Speaker 2: are off to a blazing start. Well, J.C., it's week one.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Like I said earlier, you can't dig out of a
- 3:16Speaker 2: hole if you don't create it. The Picks are going
- 3:20Speaker 2: to win a lot this week. I have a really
- 3:22Speaker 2: good feeling about this week. This is going to be
- 3:24Speaker 2: a great week. A great week We'll probably live somewhere
- 3:28Speaker 2: around 70% this week, 80% this week. It's going to
- 3:32Speaker 2: be a great week. Monkeys riding dogs. Whatever happened to
- 3:35Speaker 2: the 105.9 Fantasy Football League?
- 3:38Speaker 1: I don't.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I think it died.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, it died. Squez disappeared on us. Remember, he ran
- 3:45Speaker 4: this thing.
- 3:46Speaker 2: He was our commish.
- 3:47Speaker 4: And he disappeared. And the league went with him.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 2: So, I mean, if anybody wants to pony up and
- 3:53Speaker 2: do another one, can they come stay at your house
- 3:55Speaker 2: and do it?
- 3:58Speaker 4: Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I don't have that
- 4:00Speaker 4: much room now.
- 4:01Speaker 2: We're sending everybody over to Beaver's house. ResDog, can we
- 4:04Speaker 2: trade Levy for a player to be named later to
- 4:08Speaker 2: Memphis for Huff? I tell you what, Charles Huff is quickly,
- 4:15Speaker 2: especially over the weekend, becoming the name for coaches to
- 4:19Speaker 2: the next jump, which would be power four. Power four.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Keep an eye on Charles Huff. And I know ResDog
- 4:26Speaker 2: obviously is. The red line name texture beefs house is
- 4:29Speaker 2: now have a halfway house for gambling degenerates. We need
- 4:33Speaker 2: to come up with a name for this house. Like
- 4:35Speaker 2: it's your house, but what would we call this house?
- 4:37Speaker 2: Set house. We need to think about this.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 4: We'll get a catchy name.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Let's see. PT for MSU. Jake, I'm kidding. Of course.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I know you've got thick skin. You have to be
- 4:48Speaker 2: in your line of work. Oh, look.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, look, you win them and you lose them.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You can't worry about the losses. You just stack. You
- 4:53Speaker 2: stack the W's right. JC knows this. I can't tell
- 4:57Speaker 2: you over the years how many W's JC and I
- 4:58Speaker 2: have stacked. Bill, I think we need to include Beavers
- 5:02Speaker 2: offering some schools NYL. I think you meant NIL. NIL package.
- 5:08Speaker 2: I mean, that's a sweet deal. What kid would not
- 5:10Speaker 2: want a sweet palate on the floor, cold steaks, and
- 5:13Speaker 2: Greek yogurt during the offseason?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 5:16Speaker 4: I have a microwave. These steaks will be heated. I'm
- 5:21Speaker 4: not giving you cold steak.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I think Bill is trying to turn your You're dwelling
- 5:26Speaker 2: into a NIL establishment. Like if you want to move
- 5:30Speaker 2: kids in some places.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So is he publicly trying to turn your house into
- 5:36Speaker 2: like a recruiting tool for Pearl?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 4: You know, it's, yeah, that's what I'm getting now.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 4: I'm okay with that.
- 5:45Speaker 2: The blind side. 2026. Miko Beaver. We took a charter
- 5:50Speaker 2: bus to Tupelo in 94. We went up and beat
- 5:54Speaker 2: Jarius Jackson in the first round of the playoffs. Booster
- 5:57Speaker 2: Club paid, baby. So how about that? That charter bus
- 6:00Speaker 2: turned out well. And that's in reference to Brandon taking
- 6:02Speaker 2: charter buses and then getting run out of the building
- 6:06Speaker 2: on Friday night against Tupelo. Yeah, that game was close
- 6:11Speaker 2: for a quarter and six minutes, almost a quarter and
- 6:14Speaker 2: a half. And you just can't turn the ball over
- 6:16Speaker 2: the way Brandon did. You can't turn it over that way.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Tupelo was too good. They convert. I mean, they make
- 6:23Speaker 2: you pay for it, and Tupelo's going to make a
- 6:24Speaker 2: lot of teams pay this year. Space Ghost, you could
- 6:27Speaker 2: call that place where the degenerates go the Beaver Dam.
- 6:32Speaker 2: What do you think about this from your buddy over here?
- 6:34Speaker 4: That can work. I think we can have a catchier name,
- 6:41Speaker 4: but that's a good jumping-off point.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Now, Mo is right there with Space Ghost. He said
- 6:46Speaker 2: Beaver's Dam. So there's that.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Rhett?
- 6:51Speaker 2: May I suggest the sin bin for Beaver's House?
- 6:55Speaker 4: The sin bin. What do you think is going on?
- 6:58Speaker 4: I live in a very nice– not nice. What am
- 7:07Speaker 4: I looking for? I was going to say meager, not meager.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Established.
- 7:13Speaker 4: We'll say that. I live in a respectable neighborhood where
- 7:18Speaker 4: I think, let's see, I would guess about 80% of
- 7:21Speaker 4: the people that live there are at least 60. So
- 7:27Speaker 4: there's not a lot of sinning going on.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It's very established. It's got longevity behind it. A lot
- 7:37Speaker 2: of good history, tradition. It's like we're describing the masters
- 7:40Speaker 2: all of a sudden. Let's see here.
- 7:42Speaker 4: This isn't an antebellum home now, Jake. I don't live,
- 7:46Speaker 4: you know. You're talking like this was built in the
- 7:50Speaker 4: Civil War era.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Charlie Boy says, the house of the setting sun. I
- 7:55Speaker 2: like what we're doing here. You didn't know when you
- 7:58Speaker 2: came in today that your house was fixing to become
- 8:00Speaker 2: a place for degenerate gamblers to live. No, I didn't. Yeah.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Let's see here. JC, I hope you don't have to
- 8:07Speaker 2: reach for anything. On the top shelf when standing on
- 8:10Speaker 2: the W's that we have stacked. RezDog, I won't need
- 8:15Speaker 2: to stay at Beaver's because I will always pick opposite
- 8:18Speaker 2: of whims wrongs. So RezDog is purposefully picking against my picks.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I don't know, RezDog, you may have to end up
- 8:25Speaker 2: staying at Beaver's. And Bill, I have the name for
- 8:28Speaker 2: Beaver's house. It's the Pirate Initiative Collective House. So Bill
- 8:33Speaker 2: is like saying to hell with the gamblers. He's turning
- 8:36Speaker 2: your house into the Pirate Initiative.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I'm recruiting kids now.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what Bill... Rhett says Shady Acres. We've got
- 8:46Speaker 2: one that says Beaver's Pineapple Palace. Now he's trying to
- 8:49Speaker 2: turn you into Gluckstadt. Madison. Monkeys riding dogs. Jake is now...
- 8:56Speaker 2: Now is the time for the Beaver Mount. Yeah, now
- 8:59Speaker 2: would be the time to have the Beaver Mount, wouldn't we?
- 9:02Speaker 2: And let's see. Boomer Sooner. House of Beaver.
- 9:07Speaker 4: Is that.
- 9:09Speaker 2: What is that word? Repute. Repute. And J.C., Fade Jake
- 9:14Speaker 2: is a solid play. No, J.C., it's not. It's not.
- 9:17Speaker 1: 601-885-3776.
- 9:18Speaker 2: If you want to text us, we're brought to you
- 9:20Speaker 2: by the Westin Jackson. Go to westinjackson.com. And, of course,
- 9:24Speaker 2: you can always call 601-968-8200. Dine at Estelle Southern Table,
- 9:29Speaker 2: Monday through Sunday, 7A to 2P, 5P to 10P. Go
- 9:32Speaker 2: to westinjackson.com. Don't forget about Soul Spot. Back in a moment.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Okay, we're back.
- 9:36Speaker 4: I'm ready.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's more The Afternoon Drive with Jake Riverlake. Where he's
- 9:40Speaker 1: live and local. On Jackson Sports Authority. ESPN 105.9 The
- 9:44Speaker 1: Zone and online at thezone1059. com.

- 10:14Speaker 2: Falcon ticket giveaway. And, of course, you can get out
- 10:17Speaker 2: and donate at Mississippi Blood Services for a Road to
- 10:20Speaker 2: the Dome giveaway. Your chance to win four tickets to
- 10:22Speaker 2: see the Saints and the Falcons. Donate blood or platelets
- 10:25Speaker 2: September 1st through the 21st at the Flowood or Oxford
- 10:28Speaker 2: Donor Centers for a chance to win tickets to the
- 10:31Speaker 2: Saints and Falcons. And remember, September coming up is Sickle
- 10:35Speaker 2: Cell Awareness Month. and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Donate in
- 10:40Speaker 2: honor of patients and families across Mississippi who depend on
- 10:43Speaker 2: life-saving blood products. Give local, save local, and you can
- 10:47Speaker 2: head to the Dome. Go to msblood.com, the road to
- 10:49Speaker 2: the Dome, with Mississippi Blood Services. All right, let's see here.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Bryant-Denny is going to feel like an oven this weekend.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Weather forecasts show that the heat index as high as
- 11:00Speaker 2: 110 during Alabama's game against East Carolina Saturday, potentially making
- 11:04Speaker 2: it one of the hottest crimson tide openers In history, one-tenth.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Doesn't that sound fun? Get out there and sit in
- 11:11Speaker 2: all that? Let's see here. Bill says, yeah, I don't
- 11:15Speaker 2: see a financial future in housing poorly informed gamblers. Athletes
- 11:20Speaker 2: with high ceilings and bright futures seem more lucrative to me.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I could be wrong, though. What Bill's doing is looking
- 11:27Speaker 2: out for your financial best interest. He's saying you're not
- 11:30Speaker 2: going to make any money housing failed gamblers, but you
- 11:35Speaker 2: could make money. Housing athletes. So he said he's just
- 11:39Speaker 2: looking out for your financial best interest in that. Res dog.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I did not realize there was a respectable area in Pearl.
- 11:49Speaker 2: And Mo. Beaver's Dam of degenerates. So there is that.
- 11:53Speaker 2: All right. Mississippi Gridiron. Chris Burke. Well, I say Chris
- 11:58Speaker 2: is putting work in. It's more like Brandon's putting work in.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Rankings coming into this week after this past week. He
- 12:04Speaker 2: still has Tupelo No. 1 on Mississippi Gridiron. After they
- 12:07Speaker 2: defeated Brandon 38-14, they'll play Christ Presbyterian Academy out of
- 12:12Speaker 2: Tennessee on Friday. Oxford No. 2, they beat Collierville, Tennessee 34-24.
- 12:17Speaker 2: They'll play South Panola. Goldport No. 3, destroyed Picayune 35-0.
- 12:22Speaker 2: They are open, so you play a week and you're off. Starkville,
- 12:26Speaker 2: squeaked by Oak Grove over the weekend. 17-15, they'll play
- 12:30Speaker 2: versus West Point. Madison Central, No. 5, they beat Pearl 17-7,
- 12:35Speaker 2: and they'll play at Brandon on Friday night. Oak Grove, 0-1, No. 6,
- 12:40Speaker 2: lost to Starkville. They'll play Germantown. Brookhaven at No. 7,
- 12:43Speaker 2: they beat Lawrence County 35-8. They'll play Franklin County. Warren
- 12:47Speaker 2: Central came back and defeated Clinton 35-24. They'll play Pearl
- 12:51Speaker 2: at No. 8. Petal is 1-0. They defeated Hattiesburg 35-34.
- 12:55Speaker 2: They'll play Ocean Springs and Louisville. Defeated West Point 21-6.
- 12:59Speaker 2: They'll play Shannon coming up this weekend. Your 7A rankings,
- 13:04Speaker 2: top 10 look like this. Tupelo, Oxford, Gulfport, Starkville, Madison Central,
- 13:09Speaker 2: Oak Grove, Petal, Germantown, Brandon, and D'Iberville. 6A Warren Central
- 13:13Speaker 2: is at the top, followed by Hattiesburg, Lake Cormorant, South Panola,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and Picayune. 5A Brookhaven, Laurel, West Point, Lanier, and Cleveland Central.
- 13:21Speaker 2: That's your top five. 4A Louisville, Poplarville, Kosciuszko, Macomb, and Columbia. 3A, Winona,
- 13:28Speaker 2: Knoxville County, Raleigh, PCS, Seminary. And 2A, looks like East Webster, Heidelberg, Mize,
- 13:35Speaker 2: Kemper County, and Charleston. And 1A, Calhoun City, Simmons, Nantawai,
- 13:41Speaker 2: LaFleur County, and West Tallahatchie. You know, your 1A teams
- 13:45Speaker 2: have the best names. Like West Tallahatchie. You even know
- 13:49Speaker 2: where that is? Me either. Tallahatchie County, maybe? Biggersville, Stringer, Lumberton. Simmons, Nanawai.
- 13:58Speaker 2: You don't find teams like that in 7A. Like, there's
- 14:01Speaker 2: no Nanawai in 7A. Your MAIS top 10, Jackson Academy's 3-0.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Number one, MRA, 1-1. Hartfield at 2-0. Number three, Jackson Prep, 2-0.
- 14:11Speaker 2: And Park Lane Academy, 0-2, but they have played up
- 14:14Speaker 2: in classification. But Jackson Academy, MRA, Hartfield, and Jackson Prep
- 14:19Speaker 2: are your top four, followed by Park Lane, Kampai Academy,
- 14:22Speaker 2: Magnolia Heights, Pillow, Starville Academy, and Bayou Academy. Little look
- 14:27Speaker 2: there at your high school football headed into the weekend. Now,
- 14:31Speaker 2: didn't you say you were, are you coming to Brandon Friday?
- 14:34Speaker 2: Is that happening?
- 14:36Speaker 4: Not this Friday.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:37Speaker 4: No, I couldn't, I couldn't commit already to this Friday
- 14:41Speaker 4: because I'll still, I'll still have to be here to
- 14:46Speaker 4: at least kick off the games.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 4: I got, I got, I got to leave. I got
- 14:50Speaker 4: to leave after the first quarter Friday. New guy picked
- 14:54Speaker 4: it up really quick.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So that's going to be it.
- 14:57Speaker 4: So give me a few weeks.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:59Speaker 4: Because was it you or Ebelhair that told me the
- 15:04Speaker 4: one to get to is the West Monroe game?
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 4: And that's what, two weeks from now, three weeks?
- 15:09Speaker 2: Let me look here. Let me pull that up and
- 15:16Speaker 2: see real quick if I can get all these pop-ups
- 15:22Speaker 2: to stop showing up. Let's see here. Let's see.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Coming up.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 2: September 18th. Okay. Yeah. September 18th. West Monroe. And West Monroe,
- 15:36Speaker 2: they kicked off their season. They kick off their season
- 15:39Speaker 2: this coming up weekend versus Evangel Christian. And then they'll play.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I'm not even going to try to say this. Plaquemine.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Is it Plaquemine, Louisiana?
- 15:50Speaker 4: We'll go with that.
- 15:51Speaker 2: P-L-A-Q-U-E-M-I-N-E. at Brandon, and then it'll play Central before they
- 15:56Speaker 2: get it to Alexandria, Neville, Pineville, all these parishes down
- 16:05Speaker 2: in Louisiana. Is it Alchita? Aldrua? Whatever it is. One
- 16:11Speaker 2: of those parishes. Have you ever gone through the parish
- 16:12Speaker 2: list in Louisiana and tried to name that out? Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 2: you'll do that a lot. You'll do that a lot.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Let's see. J-Rock. Meridian is not on any Well, no,
- 16:23Speaker 2: because it's been one week. And we'll visit with Tony
- 16:26Speaker 2: Vance coming up here in about 15 to 20 minutes.
- 16:29Speaker 2: They did take care of Ocean Springs. Now, this is
- 16:32Speaker 2: no disrespect to Meridian, but just talking to people that
- 16:34Speaker 2: saw the game, you have to kind of put it
- 16:36Speaker 2: into context. Ocean Springs lost just about everybody, but that's
- 16:42Speaker 2: still a big win for Meridian. So let's give Meridian
- 16:45Speaker 2: another week. Let's go over here and see who Meridian plays.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Let's just take a look at the Meridian Wildcats and
- 16:52Speaker 2: see Meridian, who destroyed Ocean Springs this past week. They
- 16:57Speaker 2: will play at Neshoba Central coming up this week. Then
- 17:02Speaker 2: they'll play at Starkville. They'll host Columbia and then Hattiesburg
- 17:08Speaker 2: before they play your Pearl Pirates over in Pearl City.
- 17:11Speaker 2: So they still, you know, they should beat Neshoba Central.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Starkville will be a big test. And I said Columbia.
- 17:20Speaker 2: It's Columbus. They'll play Columbus. They should beat them. Hattiesburg's
- 17:22Speaker 2: a big test. If they finish 3-2 down the stretch
- 17:25Speaker 2: before they get into region play, Meridian will put up
- 17:28Speaker 2: a fight in this region. So it'll be interesting to see.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Joe Mailman. West Tallahatchie-Webb, Mississippi.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Is that.
- 17:38Speaker 2: It's not the same place. Or is it the same place? Joe. Miko.
- 17:43Speaker 2: West Tallahatchie is in the middle of nowhere, Mississippi. Close
- 17:46Speaker 2: to Drew, Mississippi in the Delta. And you pronounced... Plaquemine, correct.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Thank you, Miko. So I was taking a shot in
- 17:52Speaker 2: the dark with a Plaquemine deal. I was just closing
- 17:55Speaker 2: one eye and hoping I got it right. Rhett, Jake
- 17:58Speaker 2: nailed Plaquemine, but while Chitta came out with a clothesline.
- 18:05Speaker 2: So there you go.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Yep.
- 18:06Speaker 2: So I was one for two on that there. All right,
- 18:09Speaker 2: let's see here. Returning starters for every FBS team, if
- 18:13Speaker 2: you care. USC leads the country. They have 15 returning starters. Now,
- 18:17Speaker 2: they won over the weekend. Did you see the crowd
- 18:19Speaker 2: that was at the USC home game?
- 18:21Speaker 4: Can we call that a crowd? The lack of crowd.
- 18:24Speaker 2: A gathering? But they have 15, nine returning starters on offense,
- 18:28Speaker 2: six on defense. Georgia, number two, at 14 returning starters.
- 18:32Speaker 2: New Mexico, number three, 14 returning starters. Eight on O,
- 18:35Speaker 2: six on D. Notre Dame has 14. Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia
- 18:39Speaker 2: Tech all have 14 returning starters. Let's see here. Texas
- 18:44Speaker 2: A & M has nine returning starters. That's what makes
- 18:48Speaker 2: this so interesting. Like when you look at the Southern
- 18:50Speaker 2: Miss has two returning starters.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Two.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Two on the offensive side. Arizona State, three. Then I'm
- 18:58Speaker 2: just looking. Penn State, four. Oklahoma State, four. Utah has
- 19:03Speaker 2: five returning starters. I mean, these are all brand new
- 19:05Speaker 2: football teams that we're going to watch. Colorado has five.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Let's see. Syracuse has seven. UMass, six. UNLV has six.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Florida State, six. So, I mean, if you're back over
- 19:18Speaker 2: here on this other page where, and I'm just looking
- 19:23Speaker 2: to see, do we see our Mississippi teams? Ole Miss
- 19:25Speaker 2: has 10. What did Mississippi State have coming back? They'll
- 19:30Speaker 2: play Minnesota next week. Minnesota's got 11 returning starters back,
- 19:33Speaker 2: six on offense, five on defense. Mississippi State has seven,
- 19:37Speaker 2: two on offense, five on defense. Unnamed texter. Well, Jake,
- 19:42Speaker 2: I guess I'll apologize for giving you and Chris a
- 19:44Speaker 2: hard time the other week. West Point will struggle this year.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. Big Louisville is really good. but
- 19:50Speaker 2: West didn't look like West Point Friday. Well, let's wait
- 19:54Speaker 2: and see before we bury West Point. We've tried to
- 19:57Speaker 2: do that before, and that's a tough round robin that
- 20:01Speaker 2: they play up there in the north part of Mississippi,
- 20:05Speaker 2: the Columbus Golden Triangle area. So they'll play that. Let's
- 20:09Speaker 2: just see. Let's not bury West Point yet. And real quick,
- 20:12Speaker 2: the real unnamed texter. Washington? The one I butchered? Washington.
- 20:19Speaker 2: We'll go with that. Hey, we're brought to you by

- 22:13Speaker 2: Tony Vance will join us in the next segment. Meridian
- 22:15Speaker 2: head football coach will talk about the Wildcats and the
- 22:18Speaker 2: resurgence of what's going on over there at Meridian. KW
- 22:22Speaker 2: on the Cowboy Maloney's text line. Worst pick ever for
- 22:24Speaker 2: WIMS winners on North Carolina game. Hey, look, Tom Brady
- 22:28Speaker 2: even threw a pick six. You realize that? Joe Montana
- 22:32Speaker 2: threw a pick six. Michael Jordan missed a dunk. He
- 22:38Speaker 2: airballed a ball before.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So it happens.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Can we say that? I mean, it's one game. Let's
- 22:45Speaker 2: have fun this week and let's rack up W's because
- 22:49Speaker 2: Brady even threw a pick six.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Let me ask you, which situation is worse? Yours with the,
- 22:56Speaker 4: I mean, because Jake, look, You doubled and even tripled
- 23:00Speaker 4: down on that, though. That's the problem. That's why everyone's
- 23:03Speaker 4: coming so hard for you. You tripled down on that.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Last week.
- 23:08Speaker 4: No matter what it takes, even if the line reaches 11,
- 23:12Speaker 4: you said, you take them. What's worse, though? Okay, you
- 23:17Speaker 4: missing that or the fact that I had.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I had TCU Saturday night. I had a parlay set up.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Because remember, me and Saints, bro, we make our annual
- 23:29Speaker 4: preseason journey to the star to put in our preseason parlays.
- 23:34Speaker 4: The journey was supposed to be last Sunday. I had
- 23:38Speaker 4: a parlay worked out. Jake, it's the first time ever
- 23:41Speaker 4: I've done the one that was going to stretch out
- 23:43Speaker 4: three weeks. Because there were only two games I wanted
- 23:46Speaker 4: to play this past Saturday. There's only two games I really...
- 23:50Speaker 4: I felt great about playing this coming Saturday. And then
- 23:53Speaker 4: it was going to stretch into week one of the NFL.
- 23:56Speaker 4: It was an eight leg. The first two legs I
- 23:59Speaker 4: had on that parlay last week were TCU going down
- 24:09Speaker 4: and Memphis winning Saturday night. So we would have already
- 24:15Speaker 4: started picking both those upsets on this parlay ticket. Last week,
- 24:20Speaker 4: the trip was supposed to happen. I say supposed to
- 24:23Speaker 4: because Saints Bro called me Sunday morning or left me
- 24:25Speaker 4: a message.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Bro, I can't make it today.
- 24:29Speaker 2: I'm going to.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Have to postpone.
- 24:32Speaker 4: So which is worse, you just outright missing it or
- 24:34Speaker 4: the fact that it could have cost some sweet parlay action?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Well, we don't want you to miss your parlay. We
- 24:43Speaker 2: want you to hit the parlay. So you took, did
- 24:47Speaker 2: you bet the parlay?
- 24:49Speaker 4: I didn't get to. I had it worked out, though.
- 24:53Speaker 4: I had it on the Ameristar bet builder, though, to
- 24:58Speaker 4: go play.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Gotcha.
- 25:00Speaker 4: And those two games were on there Saturday, but I
- 25:03Speaker 4: didn't get to.
- 25:05Speaker 2: But you're going to go this weekend and play.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:08Speaker 2: We'll put one together. We'll put a winner together. We'll
- 25:11Speaker 2: make it right. Three-hump camel. Are you guys doing the fantasy?
- 25:15Speaker 2: I mean, if you need one. No, unfortunately, we're not.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Not this year. Unless you want to bring it back
- 25:19Speaker 2: right now. You want to manage this?
- 25:22Speaker 4: Spur the moment draft?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Is it too late to draft?
- 25:28Speaker 4: I mean, technically, no. Season doesn't start until the, well,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I was going to say the 13th. That's the first Sunday.
- 25:32Speaker 4: Starts on the 10th.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Okay. All right. So we could technically do one.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 25:41Speaker 2: We'll have an internal discussion here with our board of directors.
- 25:44Speaker 2: It'll be me and you. Let's see. Jay Rock, so
- 25:47Speaker 2: B is Jake saying that he is the Michael Jordan
- 25:49Speaker 2: and Tom Brady of picking football games. Well, I didn't
- 25:52Speaker 2: say that. I'm just giving examples, like even the best
- 25:56Speaker 2: of the best miss, right? Adam Vinatieri missed a field
- 26:01Speaker 2: goal in a key situation. That happened, right? I mean,
- 26:04Speaker 2: he pulled one left or pushed it right. It just happens.
- 26:09Speaker 4: So the answer to the question, Jay Rock, not only
- 26:11Speaker 4: is he comparing himself to Michael Jordan and Tom Brady—
- 26:15Speaker 4: of picking football games, but now he also added Vinatieri
- 26:18Speaker 4: to the list.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Pete Nacos reporting, the American Conference presidents and ADs have
- 26:23Speaker 2: voted to pass a rule that doesn't allow pro players
- 26:26Speaker 2: to return and play for a league school. Look, everybody
- 26:29Speaker 2: is in unison on this except LSU. So there that is.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Let's see here. Trying to see if this is an
- 26:38Speaker 2: official Mississippi State depth chart. Yeah, I just... College coaches
- 26:46Speaker 2: make me laugh now, and I wish high school coaches
- 26:49Speaker 2: would do this. What is this? The oars? You know,
- 26:53Speaker 2: everybody wants a depth chart, and you get it, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 2: and rightfully so, you get broadcast teams, even in high school,
- 26:58Speaker 2: they're scrambling for depth charts every week. Hey, do you
- 27:01Speaker 2: have a depth chart? Do you have a depth chart
- 27:02Speaker 2: for Brandon, Tupelo, Madison Central, Pearl? Depth chart, depth chart,
- 27:05Speaker 2: depth chart. And college coaches have just given the middle
- 27:08Speaker 2: fingers to everybody. Mississippi State depth chart. Here's your defensive
- 27:12Speaker 2: line depth chart. The Jack position, which is one of
- 27:18Speaker 2: the defensive ends, as they call it, the Jack. Amari
- 27:21Speaker 2: Williams or LaKendrick James or Gus Cordova, defensive tackle.
- 27:27Speaker 1: J.D.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Reid or Trevor Williams or Kelvin Dinkins, nose tackle. Jarae
- 27:33Speaker 2: Bledsoe or Dylan Evans or Diesel Moe, defensive end. They
- 27:38Speaker 2: list two. Mike Linebacker, Jalen Smith or Fat Forest. That's
- 27:44Speaker 2: a fantastic name. AJ or AJ Rice. They go ors
- 27:48Speaker 2: all the way down. Slot receivers, they give you three.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Wide receiver, they give you one. Widers are three. It's
- 27:58Speaker 2: just players. Do we push too much for depth charts
- 28:05Speaker 2: like it's just that important?
- 28:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so. I guess you'd like to know,
- 28:12Speaker 4: but Yeah, we do push hard, and that's why Dan
- 28:18Speaker 4: Mullen used to push back in his little stupid way.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Such and such will be starting, or such and such
- 28:26Speaker 4: will be starting. Quarterback, remember when he used to do that?
- 28:29Speaker 4: Dak Prescott or Damian Williams.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Southern Miss did the same thing. Let's see. Offense,
- 28:37Speaker 2: left tackle. Braden Kane or Larry Edwards. Right left guard.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Zarian Hudson or I mean, they did the oars all
- 28:48Speaker 2: the way through it. This is fascinating. So what this
- 28:51Speaker 2: means basically is figure it out on Saturday. We will
- 28:55Speaker 2: put who we want out there. That's what it means.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Let's see here. Churro laces out Jake. See, there you go. KW.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Will all corn cover the 21 and a half versus
- 29:08Speaker 2: Southern Miss? I wouldn't play that. I would say no. But,
- 29:13Speaker 2: I mean, look, Southern Miss returns two starters. They could
- 29:16Speaker 2: be really good or really bad. What do you think
- 29:19Speaker 2: Southern Miss is going to do? Or is it just
- 29:20Speaker 2: who knows? Really bad. You think they're going to be
- 29:22Speaker 2: really bad?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Space Ghost. First NFL game is the ninth Seattle versus
- 29:29Speaker 2: New England, and that is a Wednesday.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Is he breaking news here?
- 29:33Speaker 4: Apparently he thinks he is. Apparently he thinks everyone's dumb
- 29:36Speaker 4: and everyone doesn't know basic information. That game sucked as...
- 29:40Speaker 4: a Super Bowl. It's going to suck in two weeks.
- 29:43Speaker 2: It is. Cowboy ready. B, what do you think about
- 29:45Speaker 2: the 49ers wide receiver?
- 29:47Speaker 4: I don't feel good about it at all.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Which receiver? Or is he talking about the receiver room?
- 29:51Speaker 4: I guess, well, yeah, he does say that as singular receiver.
- 29:58Speaker 4: But I'm going to assume he meant the whole thing,
- 30:00Speaker 4: the whole room. The whole room that is very small
- 30:04Speaker 4: right now because everybody's been hurt.
- 30:10Speaker 2: So how many healthy bodies do they have?
- 30:14Speaker 4: Well, let's see. Mike Evans is hurt. Let's see. Deshaun
- 30:22Speaker 4: Stripling was hurt. He had a brief injury, but I
- 30:26Speaker 4: think he's back. So Mike Evans has been out. Let's see.
- 30:31Speaker 4: Demarcus Robinson. He'll be in there. Christian Kirk. Oh, my God.
- 30:37Speaker 4: The big offseason signing, which was questionable to begin with.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Christian Kirk at wide receiver. He's already hurt.
- 30:48Speaker 3: So, no.
- 30:49Speaker 4: Cowboy Ready, I feel pretty bad about it.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Thomas Casleonis, as we go to break, is listed as
- 30:55Speaker 2: the fourth-string quarterback on the Texas depth chart. So he
- 30:59Speaker 2: is on the official Texas Tech depth chart. We're brought
- 31:03Speaker 2: to you by Taylor Sudden Service. Go to taylorsuddenservice.com, 601-922-4444.

- 31:40Speaker 2: We'll have Chris Landry, top of the hour right now.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Tony Vance, kind enough to give us some time. Head
- 31:46Speaker 2: football coach Meridian Wildcats coming off the practice field. Big
- 31:49Speaker 2: win over the weekend, 47-9 over Ocean Springs. Coach, how
- 31:53Speaker 2: are you, brother? Welcome in.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Man, Jake, thanks for having me, man. Doing great, doing great.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Coach, I know you're running, so I appreciate you. Let
- 32:01Speaker 2: you catch your breath real quick. All right, so we're
- 32:03Speaker 2: sitting there doing ballgames on Friday, and the score ticker
- 32:07Speaker 2: comes across, and it keeps getting bigger, and it keeps
- 32:09Speaker 2: getting bigger, and 47-9. Coach, what a way to kind
- 32:13Speaker 2: of open up the Meridian tenure here. Take us through
- 32:15Speaker 2: what happened Friday night.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Well, man, first of all, I want to credit those
- 32:19Speaker 3: top players, man. They did a great job preparing all week,
- 32:23Speaker 3: then going out and executing game plan. Our defense played
- 32:25Speaker 3: a heck of a game and gave us the ball
- 32:27Speaker 3: in some great situations. Offensively, we were able to execute
- 32:30Speaker 3: and go down and take care of business. That's really
- 32:34Speaker 3: what it was. Got a running game going. Quarterback did
- 32:37Speaker 3: a great job of spreading the ball around to our wideouts.
- 32:41Speaker 3: We were able to put some points on the board.
- 32:43Speaker 2: We're visiting with Tony Vance. He is the head football coach,
- 32:45Speaker 2: Meridian Wildcats. They'll travel to Neshoba Central to play a
- 32:49Speaker 2: ball game coming up this weekend. Coach, take us through
- 32:51Speaker 2: the summer and How do you get a group of
- 32:54Speaker 2: young men who, you know, I mean, obviously we know
- 32:56Speaker 2: the history of Meridian. And, boy, everybody's been talking about this.
- 32:59Speaker 2: You know, wow, look at Meridian. They're back. They're ready
- 33:02Speaker 2: to go. I know you kind of probably are in
- 33:03Speaker 2: the Nick Saban mold, like don't give us that rat poison.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Let us just focus on what's next. But to prepare
- 33:08Speaker 2: a group of young men that haven't won a whole
- 33:10Speaker 2: lot over the last few years to go on the
- 33:13Speaker 2: road into a, you know, a hostile place like Ocean
- 33:15Speaker 2: Springs and not only win, but win walking away mentally
- 33:18Speaker 2: to prepare these young men for that and to pull
- 33:20Speaker 2: that off.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Again, I think they did a great job of committing
- 33:25Speaker 3: to what we were trying to get done from the spring.
- 33:27Speaker 3: From the time I got here in January, throughout the
- 33:29Speaker 3: spring and over the summer, I felt like it's carried
- 33:33Speaker 3: over into fall camp. These guys are hungry. They want
- 33:36Speaker 3: to win. Let me tell you something. We have a
- 33:37Speaker 3: great group of guys here at Meridian. They deserve to win.
- 33:40Speaker 3: I think those guys understand what it takes to win.
- 33:43Speaker 3: They're starting to understand what it takes to win. It
- 33:46Speaker 3: starts them believing in themselves, believing in their coaching staff,
- 33:48Speaker 3: and believing in what we're doing. I think that was
- 33:50Speaker 3: kind of what you saw. Thursday night. It was a
- 33:52Speaker 3: group of guys that believed.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Coach, tell us a little bit about this football team.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I know you've got a pretty darn good quarterback who
- 33:58Speaker 2: is yet to hit his ceiling, a big wide receiver,
- 34:01Speaker 2: really good running back, and obviously your defense looks really,
- 34:04Speaker 2: really good out the gate.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Let's start on defense side, Bob. We've got quite a
- 34:08Speaker 3: bit of seniors over there, a whole defensive front, senior laden, linebacker,
- 34:12Speaker 3: cool senior laden, and secondary as well. We're a little
- 34:16Speaker 3: bit younger in the secondary, but those guys are seniors
- 34:18Speaker 3: over there that You know, they're hungry. And a good
- 34:21Speaker 3: group of guys, man. Ashton Dawson's our little linebacker. Deion
- 34:24Speaker 3: Johnson's another linebacker inside. And, you know, those two guys
- 34:27Speaker 3: count on the leaders of defense. You know, Jalen Eason's
- 34:29Speaker 3: one of our corners, probably one of the top-rated DBs
- 34:32Speaker 3: in the state of Mississippi, man. One of the most
- 34:34Speaker 3: underrated DBs in the state of Mississippi, if you ask me.
- 34:37Speaker 3: You know, but he did a great job Friday night.
- 34:38Speaker 3: I think he had five tackles and four pass breakups
- 34:40Speaker 3: with an interception. So, you know, that's a great group
- 34:43Speaker 3: of guys over there that's been playing for a while, man. And,
- 34:45Speaker 3: you know, they led the charge. You know, offensively, like
- 34:48Speaker 3: I said, starts with a quarterback. taking care of the football,
- 34:50Speaker 3: doing things it takes to, you know, get the ball
- 34:52Speaker 3: in the hands of the people who need to get
- 34:53Speaker 3: in the hands of. And I thought our running backs
- 34:55Speaker 3: did a great job. Grant, he obviously had a big night,
- 34:58Speaker 3: rushing with five touchdowns. But I think the other one was,
- 35:01Speaker 3: you know, Vincent Shannon had a really good night running
- 35:04Speaker 3: the football as well. So, you know, I give credit
- 35:06Speaker 3: to offensive line. They did a good job of opening
- 35:08Speaker 3: up some holes for those guys. But overall, it was
- 35:10Speaker 3: a great team effort. You know, a kicker made, you know,
- 35:12Speaker 3: four or five or six extra points. You know, so overall,
- 35:15Speaker 3: it was a great team win. It really was.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Coach, is this schedule correct? Are you guys playing the
- 35:20Speaker 2: first three weeks on the road?
- 35:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that's absolutely correct. You know, it's a tough schedule
- 35:25Speaker 3: in here, man. And I said, wow, y'all only have
- 35:28Speaker 3: four home games. I said, well, they had six home
- 35:30Speaker 3: games last year. It's just what we failed this year. So, yeah,
- 35:32Speaker 3: first three games on the road, man. And, you know,
- 35:34Speaker 3: none of them easy. You know, we're going to play
- 35:36Speaker 3: a tough and a shovel central team this week. And,
- 35:39Speaker 3: you know, they're really talented, man. They got eight starters
- 35:42Speaker 3: back on both sides of the ball. So, you know,
- 35:44Speaker 3: we'll have our hands full again this week, but that's
- 35:45Speaker 3: just what it is when you're playing 7-8 football in
- 35:48Speaker 3: the state of Mississippi.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Coach, how do you, and you've been doing this a
- 35:50Speaker 2: long time, you're one of the best ones at doing it,
- 35:52Speaker 2: how do you pull now the guys out of the
- 35:54Speaker 2: clouds and say, hey, look, we want you to celebrate
- 35:57Speaker 2: what happened the other night, but hey, we got a
- 35:58Speaker 2: big one coming up here in just a few days?
- 36:00Speaker 3: I think just what you mentioned earlier, man, you know,
- 36:03Speaker 3: you said rat poison, I've used that phrase as well, but,
- 36:05Speaker 3: you know, I talk to them, you know, about the noise,
- 36:07Speaker 3: you know, noise is just that, sometimes it's good, sometimes
- 36:10Speaker 3: it's bad, but Either way, if you get caught listening
- 36:12Speaker 3: to the noise, you're going to regret it in the end.
- 36:13Speaker 3: So we can't get caught listening to the noise, what
- 36:15Speaker 3: is good or bad right now. So we've got to
- 36:17Speaker 3: focus on things that we can control, and that's our effort,
- 36:20Speaker 3: that's our attitude, and that's executing the game plan and
- 36:22Speaker 3: coming to practice each day with a purpose, and that's
- 36:24Speaker 3: just to get better every day. And our guys have
- 36:26Speaker 3: done that so far, and I look forward to them
- 36:28Speaker 3: continuing to do that. And it's a fun group to coach, man.
- 36:31Speaker 3: I will say that, man. And, you know, it's been
- 36:33Speaker 3: fun for me, you know, taking a year off from
- 36:35Speaker 3: being a head coach, man, going to be an offensive
- 36:36Speaker 3: coordinator kind of gave me an opportunity to rediscover myself
- 36:38Speaker 3: you know, myself as a play caller, man, and, you know,
- 36:41Speaker 3: so I'm having fun calling plays again. So, you know,
- 36:45Speaker 3: it's a fun time to be a Meridian Wildcat.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Coach, let's finish it up with this, and I appreciate
- 36:48Speaker 2: your time. For the city of Meridian, this has got
- 36:52Speaker 2: to be big. I mean, just, you know, to have
- 36:54Speaker 2: a winner there, to win big on Friday, I would
- 36:56Speaker 2: imagine the atmosphere, the air is a little lighter, and
- 37:00Speaker 2: the steps are a little lighter as well over there.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Well, no doubt. You know, I think when... Football is
- 37:05Speaker 3: good in the state of Meridian. Life's a lot better
- 37:07Speaker 3: in the state of Meridian. When football is good in Meridian,
- 37:09Speaker 3: football is good in the state of Mississippi.
- 37:11Speaker 2: There is no doubt.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Football continues to be good in Meridian. Football continues to
- 37:14Speaker 3: be good in the state of Mississippi. So we don't
- 37:16Speaker 3: take for granted that we get the opportunity to coach
- 37:18Speaker 3: one of the most stellar programs in the state of
- 37:20Speaker 3: Mississippi in Meridian Wildcats.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Well, Coach, congratulations again on the big win over at
- 37:25Speaker 2: Ocean Springs. Best of luck at Neshoba Central. We'll catch
- 37:27Speaker 2: up and visit soon, Coach. We appreciate your time. Best
- 37:30Speaker 2: of luck.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Sound good. Thanks for having me.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Thank you, Coach. Tony Vance on your radio. Meridian, big
- 37:35Speaker 2: winner over the weekend, 47-9 over the weekend at Ocean Springs.
- 37:38Speaker 2: They'll go to Neshoba Central then to start before first
- 37:41Speaker 2: home game. This is September 19th versus Columbus. We'll take
- 37:44Speaker 2: a timeout. Chris Landry will get us teed up for
- 37:47Speaker 2: the weekend of college football. Back in a bit.
