Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: My parents were running the marches for civil rights against
- 0:08Speaker 1: the Vietnam War, March Against Hunger. My father was one
- 0:09Speaker 1: of the leaders to try and integrate the neighborhoods around Buffalo.
- 0:31Speaker 2: A reporter for the New York Times pointed out that
- 0:34Speaker 2: he will still remember what he did there and brought
- 0:37Speaker 2: a family to our.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Community, white collar, working class community.
- 0:43Speaker 2: The house was burned down, the house that the first
- 0:45Speaker 2: black family moved in, and the local fire department didn't respond.
- 0:50Speaker 1: That's the world I grew up in.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But with parents who challenged that, and that is why
- 0:55Speaker 2: I became an activist.
- 0:57Speaker 1: That led me to the political role I am in.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's those values that you live every day.
- 1:03Speaker 2: This is your life, this is your calling, where you
- 1:06Speaker 2: see those people in their darkest of hours. You hear
- 1:10Speaker 2: the pain so acutely, and you just want to be
- 1:13Speaker 2: their vehicle.
- 1:14Speaker 1: How can I help them get out of their distress?
- 1:18Speaker 1: And I hope that you feel you have a partner
- 1:20Speaker 1: in government.
- 1:21Speaker 2: And I started an organization, and it's not just a
- 1:24Speaker 2: nice token thing to do, our Interfaith Advisory Council and
- 1:28Speaker 2: the Office of Faith-Based Services, but to put.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Real money there.
- 1:32Speaker 2: So money is going to the communities to help you
- 1:35Speaker 2: do your jobs and supporting all the efforts to create
- 1:38Speaker 2: nutrition programs. Because when the Trump administration cut the SNAP
- 1:43Speaker 2: program last Thanksgiving, last Thanksgiving, and I went to so many...
- 1:48Speaker 2: Food lines and soup kitchens and just saying, this is
- 1:50Speaker 2: so cool. We put more money than ever before in
- 1:53Speaker 2: those programs to help people really feed the masses.
- 1:58Speaker 1: When it comes to housing, I'm trying so hard, as
- 2:01Speaker 1: many of you. Many of you are using your properties
- 2:03Speaker 1: to build affordable housing. Housing that truly is affordable. Truly
- 2:07Speaker 1: is affordable. We've had to break down so many barriers.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Everybody comes in and then they say no to everybody else.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm here, not you.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And that is why we have young people who grew
- 2:19Speaker 2: up in our neighborhoods right here, who are going over to, yes,
- 2:23Speaker 2: this is true, New Jersey, because they build more housing,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and it's cheaper even though they work here and their
- 2:29Speaker 2: families are in their churches. So I want to stop
- 2:32Speaker 2: that migration. Because people came here, the ancestors came earlier,
- 2:36Speaker 2: they overcame a.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Lot of discriminations.
- 2:38Speaker 2: The 30s, 40s, 50s, and now I want their grandchildren
- 2:42Speaker 2: to be able to prosper here.
- 2:44Speaker 1: We're going to build the housing we need.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I'm going to talk to you about how we also
- 2:47Speaker 2: lift up our families and our children.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You may not know this, but I'm New York State's
- 2:52Speaker 1: first mom daughter. First mom. What does a mom do?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I know that I'm talking about affordable child care. It
- 3:01Speaker 1: is deeply personal. Because I was blessed to.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Have a job working for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Those of you who are a little older might remember
- 3:09Speaker 1: his name.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Worked for him in Washington. I thought about that job
- 3:13Speaker 2: for years. I worked hard to get there.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And I couldn't keep it because I had children at
- 3:18Speaker 1: the time. And there was no childcare. Who's gonna take
- 3:22Speaker 1: care of the kids? I literally had to walk away
- 3:23Speaker 1: from that job. Now listen, those babies are now grown
- 3:27Speaker 1: up and have their own babies.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And the childcare is not anymore affordable or accessible than
- 3:32Speaker 2: it was a generation ago. So we, in partnership with
- 3:36Speaker 2: this mayor and mayors all across the state of New York,
- 3:39Speaker 2: we're bringing fully free universal childcare to every baby.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Two-year-old, four-year-old, three-year-old, across the state of New York. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: that's how we get people money back.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Because I was in the Riverdale Farmer's Market last week.
- 3:56Speaker 1: A father came up to me and said, Governor, my
- 3:58Speaker 1: wife and I were just preparing to move to Philadelphia.
- 4:01Speaker 1: They're like, well, you don't like the Knicks?
- 4:07Speaker 2: I challenged him on that, but he says we have
- 4:10Speaker 2: to go because housing is so much cheaper there.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I'm going to make sure there's more space for our baby.
- 4:16Speaker 1: We want to have a bigger family. He said, we're
- 4:18Speaker 1: going there until.
- 4:20Speaker 2: You introduce the two-year-old universal pre-K program.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And now I save $ 24, 000 a year. That's how we're
- 4:27Speaker 1: changing lives.
- 4:30Speaker 2: In government, partnering with our communities.
- 4:34Speaker 1: One more thing about the kids.
- 4:37Speaker 2: If Payne needed to know, there are little ones who
- 4:40Speaker 2: sit in school.
- 4:41Speaker 1: With their tummy growling. You know, you get when you're
- 4:44Speaker 1: hungry at work and kind of lose distraction. Think about
- 4:47Speaker 1: a child all day in school.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Because their parents didn't have enough money, or the kid
- 4:52Speaker 2: was too embarrassed to get the subsidized lunches, and everybody
- 4:56Speaker 2: knew who that kid was.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And so I said, no more stigma, no more hungry children.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And we offered every.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Child in the state of New York, treating them all equally,
- 5:07Speaker 2: free breakfast and lunch in school every.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Day.
- 5:13Speaker 2: We're putting food in the schools, taking the cell phones out.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Of the schools, because we thought that was a good idea.
- 5:23Speaker 2: The kids are really good watching their TikTok dance videos,
- 5:26Speaker 2: they're great dancers, but they're not.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Really good at math right now. So we gotta work
- 5:31Speaker 1: on that. But our kids are smart, They want to grow.
- 5:35Speaker 2: They want to make friends, and they had that device
- 5:38Speaker 2: holding them hostage.
- 5:39Speaker 1: For literally a decade. And now we're liberating our kids,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and they're going to just thrive.
- 5:44Speaker 2: I'm so excited that our kids are going to be
- 5:46Speaker 2: better than any kid.
- 5:47Speaker 1: In this entire country, because the other states didn't have
- 5:49Speaker 1: the guts to take this on. Their governor said, oh,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I don't want that fight.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I don't want to fight with the parents and the
- 5:55Speaker 2: administrators and the school boards.
- 5:57Speaker 1: They said, Governor, don't do this. People will hate you.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm a mom. I had teenagers. I know what it's
- 6:03Speaker 1: like to be naked. I can handle this. I can
- 6:06Speaker 1: handle this. So it's one of the best things we
- 6:08Speaker 1: ever did with an impact that was immediate. And children
- 6:12Speaker 1: have come up to me now and thank me for that.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I didn't like it, Governor. I didn't like it at first.
- 6:17Speaker 1: But now I've got more friends in person than I
- 6:18Speaker 1: ever had in my whole life. That's how we change families, people,
- 6:23Speaker 1: and their families.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Prospects for better life here.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But I cannot do this without this community, the faith community.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Because you are the ones who are the messengers back
- 6:36Speaker 2: to me.
- 6:37Speaker 1: You can tell me the different pain points that they're feeling.
- 6:41Speaker 1: What is going on? How can we help? What can
- 6:43Speaker 1: government do to be your best ally? And we can
- 6:47Speaker 1: do this together. That is the partnership we've already started.
- 6:51Speaker 2: And I look forward to your support as we get
- 6:54Speaker 2: the souls to the poles.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Get the souls to the poles.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yes, a lot of you will vote already, but let's
- 7:02Speaker 2: get the next wave and the next.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Wave for eight straight days. Get that wave in. And
- 7:06Speaker 1: I'm going to address one more issue of anxiety with people.
- 7:11Speaker 1: The ice rates.
- 7:12Speaker 2: People are very concerned that ice will set up checkpoints,
- 7:17Speaker 2: or put some vehicles on a road and block the road.
- 7:20Speaker 1: They can't be at a polling place. We've passed this
- 7:22Speaker 1: tough law against that. But they'll have a suppressant against it.
- 7:25Speaker 1: They'll make people anxious. They'll say, I'm not sure. That's
- 7:29Speaker 1: why we have to vote early. That's why early voting.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Is going to make sure you have the security to
- 7:35Speaker 2: know they will be safe. That they and their family
- 7:38Speaker 2: members will not be harassed because of the over-aggressive enforcement
- 7:42Speaker 2: of the laws by ICE. So we're standing up. We've
- 7:46Speaker 2: got a lot on our plate. And I'll just throw
- 7:48Speaker 2: this out. I am running against someone who literally said,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I want to bring Trump-style leadership to New York State.
- 7:55Speaker 1: If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what does.
- 7:59Speaker 1: He said Donald Trump is the greatest president in his lifetime.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I don't think so. I don't think so either. I
- 8:05Speaker 1: don't think so. So how do I reject that?
- 8:13Speaker 2: Rejected by using the power that many shed blood for
- 8:19Speaker 2: and marched for and struggled for. That precious right to
- 8:23Speaker 2: vote that was denied so many at the beginning of
- 8:25Speaker 2: our country and finally was secured. We cannot disrespect all
- 8:30Speaker 2: those who marched and gave up their flesh and blood
- 8:33Speaker 2: and lost lives in our battle for justice and the.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Right to vote in this country. That is why we
- 8:41Speaker 1: will honor that. We will march the poll. We will
- 8:43Speaker 1: be proud to.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Do what we do and say we are taking back
- 8:47Speaker 2: our country. We're taking back our country and rejecting all
- 8:51Speaker 2: the hatred and negativity.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And all the oppression, elimination of D.I. programs and M.W.E.
- 8:57Speaker 1: programs and all the assault on women who have worked
- 8:59Speaker 1: so hard to secure it.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So this election, yes, I'd.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Be honored to have your support and everyone you touch
- 9:06Speaker 1: for governor. And make Adrian Adams part of my ticket,
- 9:09Speaker 1: the first all-female ticket. How about that?
- 9:15Speaker 2: Get Chess Chase back on their holy battlegrounds.
- 9:22Speaker 1: But here's one more thing. I'm so excited about this election.
- 9:26Speaker 2: As the leader of the Democratic Party of the whole
- 9:28Speaker 2: state of Europe, I am working hard to win congressional
- 9:32Speaker 2: races all the way up the border to Panda, which
- 9:36Speaker 2: is a real Republican area, to the tip of Montauk
- 9:40Speaker 2: in Long Island.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And we have a wave election, and we take back
- 9:44Speaker 1: The House of Representatives.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Guess who's the Speaker of the House?
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's our very own, our very own, Keith Jeffrey. Now
- 9:53Speaker 1: we have the Republican Party. In 2026, we take back
- 9:58Speaker 1: the House and the Senate.
