- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast called twenty five whist Stocking Fine Ball,
- 0:08Speaker 1: and they wear the whistle. Yes, but what did you
- 0:12Speaker 1: expect it's a podcast called five whistles whatever, everybody, we
- 0:19Speaker 1: we actually are wearing whistles, and we'll get to that
- 0:22Speaker 1: in a second. But whoever has the best show today
- 0:23Speaker 1: get to blow the whistle at the end. It's the
- 0:25Speaker 1: it's the reward for winning, doing the best job. If
- 0:28Speaker 1: you overplay, though, we'll take your whistle away for next game.
- 0:32Speaker 1: That's quite the reward, thinks the big one. It's the
- 0:34Speaker 1: only one person gets to blow the whistle at the end.
- 0:38Speaker 1: What's happening, everybody. So what we're gonna do here is
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're gonna do our warm ups, just like in a game,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and give you a warm up question. We'll go around
- 0:43Speaker 1: the room, we'll introduce you. This is how we get
- 0:45Speaker 1: to know each other. So we'll go around there and
- 0:47Speaker 1: first up the question will be who's your favorite football
- 0:50Speaker 1: player as a kid. So think about that for a second.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Your favorite player as a kid. First up, Adam Hambrick.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Adam your favorite football player as a child. Emmett Smith cowboy.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I grew up a Cowboys fan. Yeah that you know
- 1:03Speaker 1: the de Other's Cowboys get the traditional TV coverage in Arkansas,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and that's who was on and that's who my dad
- 1:09Speaker 1: was a fan of, and so I was. I got
- 1:11Speaker 1: duped into being a Cowboys fan when they were winning
- 1:13Speaker 1: all those Super Bowls and the nineties Eddie Joe Montana.
- 1:16Speaker 1: So before I was there a Cowboys you hear me.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Before I was a Cowboys fan, I was the Ford
- 1:21Speaker 1: Niners fan obviously because Joe Montana and Jared Rice and
- 1:23Speaker 1: all those dudes were just dominating. And then once Joe
- 1:27Speaker 1: Montana went to the Chiefs retired, blah bla blah, I
- 1:29Speaker 1: was like, I need a team, and so my mom
- 1:31Speaker 1: was really into the Cowboys. Obviously, I'm from South Texas.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Let's go Cowboys and we started winning. That's my team now.
- 1:37Speaker 1: But you can't really change teams. Well, you're not, as
- 1:41Speaker 1: I literally thought you were a much like deeper Cowboys fan. Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I feel borderland trade Listen, you can't trade teams. Listen.
- 1:48Speaker 1: When you're a kid, you like who you like and
- 1:50Speaker 1: at that time, it's just whoever is winning it. I
- 1:53Speaker 1: don't have a team, like, can you imagine I can't
- 1:55Speaker 1: imagine me a Ford Niners fans still like that. That's ridiculous.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm not from California, Texas, but I'm surprised you just
- 2:01Speaker 1: weren't as a kid. I guess that's what I'm saying.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Are there any die hard Texans fans? I mean, like
- 2:07Speaker 1: unless you like live there and you're like soup, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: that would be I remember as a kid kid maybe
- 2:11Speaker 1: a Texans fan because they grew up there. I remember
- 2:13Speaker 1: as a kid there were a lot of Oilers, like
- 2:15Speaker 1: it was split Cowboys. Oilers and Cowboys weren't I mean,
- 2:17Speaker 1: stop back. Those were great days for them. But I
- 2:19Speaker 1: think there were more Oilers fans when Texans took over.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mean I didn't know anybody kick off Kevin. Your
- 2:25Speaker 1: favorite football players a kid as a kid? Um, Well,
- 2:28Speaker 1: either one would be Tom Brady, but he's still playing,
- 2:30Speaker 1: so I'll go with Randy Moss. That's crazy. Do you
- 2:35Speaker 1: have such a beer and big muscles? How old are
- 2:37Speaker 1: you at a young age? No? You do not do
- 2:43Speaker 1: that's all. Yeah, like the oil fields for like twenty years.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Is that a good thing? That's a good thing. That's
- 2:50Speaker 1: a good thing. He's like see Kwan Barkley as a kid,
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's like Joe Burrow. Maybe Mike d favorite football player
- 2:58Speaker 1: as a kid Troy Aikman. Okay, that's a good one.
- 3:01Speaker 1: How old are you, Mike? There we go. There's like
- 3:05Speaker 1: a generation difference though on your favorite players. Though, I
- 3:07Speaker 1: guess Tom Brady the first part of Tom Brady, Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: like the earlier. But like I said, the first player
- 3:12Speaker 1: I remember liking was Randy Moss. Dear god, we have
- 3:14Speaker 1: three Cowboys fans here. It's a Cowboys show. Welcome to
- 3:18Speaker 1: the Cowboys Club. Mine is boomerssayasin because when I was
- 3:22Speaker 1: a kid, he was the only left handed quarterback that
- 3:25Speaker 1: I really like, and in the Forts were winning, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: I didn't go with Steve Young and Joe Montana was
- 3:29Speaker 1: hit early in my early days. And then when Steve
- 3:32Speaker 1: Young became the quarterback and he was left handed, I
- 3:34Speaker 1: don't like a winner. I like somebody that's a loser
- 3:36Speaker 1: that becomes a winner. So I was a big Cincinnati
- 3:38Speaker 1: Bengals fan, remember watching them be by the forty niners
- 3:41Speaker 1: and being so sad. I cried. It was it was awful.
- 3:44Speaker 1: But Boomersia said he was my inspiration until like seventh
- 3:47Speaker 1: grade when I wasn't quarterback anymore, and he also went
- 3:50Speaker 1: to the Jets, and there's a whole weird thing. So,
- 3:52Speaker 1: but I don't have a team. I don't have an
- 3:53Speaker 1: NFL team. I like a lot of the NFL teams.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I hate a few NFL teams, mostly just the Cowboys.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But and I don't even have no reason. But I
- 4:00Speaker 1: don't even hate him as much. I hated a winner,
- 4:03Speaker 1: So I hated the Cowboys all throughout the you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: mid to late nineties. We should love us now, well, yes,
- 4:08Speaker 1: you're a big losers, but you guys are so annoying.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So you say annoying, I say, we're very hopeful. But yeah,
- 4:15Speaker 1: it's a passion, hope because every start of the year
- 4:19Speaker 1: we're like, this is it. I can appreciate that. I
- 4:22Speaker 1: don't I like that about you, but I can respect
- 4:25Speaker 1: and also hate the passion. Hey, is it too late
- 4:27Speaker 1: for you to come up with a favorite NFL team?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Like I have a couple of friends that play, and
- 4:33Speaker 1: that makes it weird. Wish we should take some tweets
- 4:37Speaker 1: and like get people to to for their teams. I
- 4:40Speaker 1: don't give a crap. I'm good watching. I'll watch Fantasy.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'll root for the Titans because they're close and some
- 4:45Speaker 1: people over there follow Arkansas players like Tryline Brooks with
- 4:48Speaker 1: the Titans. I'll keep up with that, so okay. Second question,
- 4:51Speaker 1: name a dumb sports mascot? All right, name a dumb
- 4:56Speaker 1: sports mascot. Question. Eddie says he's in go Blue Devil. Okay,
- 5:00Speaker 1: the dude, Blue div man? What is that? High school
- 5:04Speaker 1: was red devil's I get it when you picture the devil,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's red, right, But what's a blue devil's colors? Like
- 5:11Speaker 1: the ice a devil? Is that his? Like, I just
- 5:13Speaker 1: don't get it. His twin brother, that's the good devil.
- 5:16Speaker 1: That's a good point. Kick off, Kevin, let's go with
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Philly fanatic. I think it's just random to me.
- 5:24Speaker 1: His look. You know, that's an interesting thing too, because
- 5:27Speaker 1: when the mascot doesn't actually like Stanford, But what is it?
- 5:31Speaker 1: They have a tree and they have Christmas trade year round.
- 5:35Speaker 1: That wasn't my answer. Oh that's like, but yeah, Toledo.
- 5:39Speaker 1: You know Toledo's mascot are the Rockets Rockets? Um, so
- 5:44Speaker 1: I hate the Toledo Rockets. First of all, I hate
- 5:47Speaker 1: hate because we went and Brad Paisley asked Eddie and
- 5:51Speaker 1: I to go play a show. After Arkansas played Toledo.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It was a more memorial stadium, and so we're supposed
- 5:59Speaker 1: to kill him and Eddie now are like absolutely so
- 6:01Speaker 1: somebody an opener. Eddie and I had the regging idiots
- 6:03Speaker 1: and Brad Paisley right after the game. We're supposed to win.
- 6:06Speaker 1: We lost the game to Toledo. They beat us, and
- 6:08Speaker 1: we were miserable. I was I didn't want to do
- 6:10Speaker 1: as awful. So I hate the Rockets. I mean, Toledo's
- 6:13Speaker 1: cool and fine. I was really worried that night that
- 6:16Speaker 1: you weren't gonna go on my boycott. Straight up, Mike
- 6:20Speaker 1: d named dumb sports mascot. I can't even think of wood,
- 6:25Speaker 1: not a single dumb mascot. If I thought some of
- 6:29Speaker 1: would razorback. No, somebody gets fired the first ever hear
- 6:34Speaker 1: from them again. Uh, Adam hambroke a dumb sports mascot.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Why is Alabama the Elephants? I still don't understand it.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I've been it's been explained to me multiple times, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: I still don't get it to care. I think a
- 6:47Speaker 1: war eagle similar meaning what's a war eagle? I like
- 6:50Speaker 1: the eagle, but I like a piece eagle like the
- 6:52Speaker 1: American eagle. Yeah, I mean yeah, I forget to pick
- 6:55Speaker 1: the kind of eagle. Okay, we're all stretching out. We
- 6:58Speaker 1: got one more. Would your why life or Kevin? I
- 7:01Speaker 1: don't think you have a you're married? Sorry? No, you
- 7:03Speaker 1: have a girlfriend? No, I don't. Would your wife or
- 7:08Speaker 1: have you ever had a hypothetical? Have you ever had
- 7:10Speaker 1: a girlfriend? What's the last time? The last serious one
- 7:13Speaker 1: was probably four years ago. Okay, let's just act like
- 7:16Speaker 1: you're still together. Okay, perfect. Would your wife rather you
- 7:23Speaker 1: be generally a good athlete or would you rather you
- 7:27Speaker 1: generally have good fashion sense? If it was just naturally
- 7:31Speaker 1: in you? Mike d fashion sense? My wife gets on
- 7:33Speaker 1: me all the time that I dressed like crap Adam
- 7:36Speaker 1: hambrig Oh, definitely fashion sense. Yeah, Kevin athlete for sure, Eddie,
- 7:43Speaker 1: I mean I don't dress well. My wife never says anything,
- 7:46Speaker 1: and she loves that. My boys are athletes, like my
- 7:48Speaker 1: little kids are really good athletes, and she loves that.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I think she would like for her husband to
- 7:53Speaker 1: be an athlete. Yeah, I'm gonna go with athlete to
- 7:56Speaker 1: My wife is extremely athletic. It's annoying. She's so gifted.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Athlete athletically, and so I think she would like that
- 8:03Speaker 1: for kid time for the kid to Dear God, if
- 8:06Speaker 1: it gets my athletic ability, not hers. She can kill me.
- 8:09Speaker 1: And I was a pretty good athlete, but she's you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: um and she can handle the fashion stuff for me. Out.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Yesterday I went to dinner and I walked down all
- 8:17Speaker 1: my clothes a landing on in the bed. I didn't
- 8:18Speaker 1: put them out. She picked him out for me. That's nice. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:20Speaker 1: she kills that. Um. So all right, twenty five whistles.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Here's why we're named this draft. Kings was like, hey,
- 8:26Speaker 1: let's I want you to do a show and I said, okay.
- 8:28Speaker 1: We talked about it for a long time and I said,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I don't want to commit to a show for all year.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I don't know who's gonna do it with me. I
- 8:35Speaker 1: don't know if we have the capat. I said, let's
- 8:37Speaker 1: load to a sports show and we'll do it till
- 8:39Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. They were like, great, I'll do one
- 8:41Speaker 1: a week, which we're doing here. We'll probably do a
- 8:42Speaker 1: little more than one week occasionally. But I said, I'll
- 8:44Speaker 1: do twenty five and then we're retiring. And so that's
- 8:47Speaker 1: why it's twenty five whistles will build the whistle to
- 8:49Speaker 1: into each show, episodes over and then we're good. Episode two.
- 8:52Speaker 1: That's it. Dan Patrick coming up in a little bits.
- 8:55Speaker 1: As I look back at my favorite interviews ever and
- 8:58Speaker 1: like the coolest ones. I put Steven Tyler up there,
- 9:01Speaker 1: half Aurady with John Mayer, and I put Dan Patrick
- 9:04Speaker 1: because I'm just a massive Dan Patrick fan. You guys
- 9:06Speaker 1: thought it was cool, right it was? It was awesome.
- 9:09Speaker 1: So Dan Patrick coming up. And obviously the first episode,
- 9:12Speaker 1: we're gonna have Sam Pittman, the Arkansas football head coach.
- 9:14Speaker 1: We don't really talk about Arkansas football, meaning we don't
- 9:17Speaker 1: get in. It's mostly like being an SEC coach, being
- 9:21Speaker 1: famous now in a town, all of that. So we
- 9:23Speaker 1: talked with Sam Pittman a little bit. I was worried
- 9:25Speaker 1: that when you book Sam Pittman, I'm like, here we go,
- 9:27Speaker 1: it's going to be an Arkansas podcast. It easily could
- 9:29Speaker 1: have been, but I didn't make it that I It
- 9:31Speaker 1: was could have been any SEC head coach, but I
- 9:33Speaker 1: just felt like I needed to go Pittman because that's
- 9:36Speaker 1: my guy, and I knew I could get on. I
- 9:38Speaker 1: just texted him, honestly. So next week and we get
- 9:40Speaker 1: the quarterbacks coach to play quarterback for it. Dal Logins
- 9:46Speaker 1: coming on the polic All right, here's what we're gonna do.
- 9:48Speaker 1: This is a little game we're gonna play for the
- 9:50Speaker 1: twenty five episodes that we do. You don't have to play,
- 9:52Speaker 1: but if you don't get in today, you can't play
- 9:53Speaker 1: the rest of the year. Oh my gosh. Right, So
- 9:56Speaker 1: we're gonna play who Wins It All? It's so for
- 10:00Speaker 1: one dollar. For one dollar, you can buy a team
- 10:03Speaker 1: in college football. You can somebody else can buy the
- 10:06Speaker 1: same team for one dollar. You can buy a team
- 10:09Speaker 1: in the NFL. Right now, you go who wins it All?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Put a dollar in on it, and you can keep
- 10:13Speaker 1: that one dollar. And now if you change your pick
- 10:15Speaker 1: at any time, you gotta double your dollar bet to
- 10:17Speaker 1: two dollars. You can change and pick another team. So
- 10:23Speaker 1: that being the case, we'll have to shut it down
- 10:26Speaker 1: at one point. Obviously, what figure out when that is?
- 10:27Speaker 1: Maybe it's new Year. Maybe it's because I just made
- 10:30Speaker 1: the scheme up last night. So I don't want you
- 10:32Speaker 1: guys to go beautiful mind to figure out how to
- 10:34Speaker 1: actually beat the system. So we're gonna play who Wins
- 10:36Speaker 1: it all. Nobody got a heads up. But for one dollar,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you get to pick a team and each one dollar college,
- 10:41Speaker 1: one dollar NFL, and we'll keep up with it. Um,
- 10:44Speaker 1: does everybody want in for a dollar? Anyone? It would
- 10:49Speaker 1: be dumb. Yes, Let's play who wins it all? And
- 10:53Speaker 1: we'll check every week if we wants to change your mind?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Who wins it all? In college football? Okay? Now, remember,
- 11:00Speaker 1: if you pick a big team, someone else might pick
- 11:01Speaker 1: it with you. You just can't come in on a
- 11:05Speaker 1: team that's already picked a week after or later. So
- 11:09Speaker 1: if you pick Alabama right now and you have been
- 11:12Speaker 1: up changing your mind to go to somebody else, I
- 11:14Speaker 1: can then go to Alabama. But if you have it,
- 11:16Speaker 1: I can't take Alabama later because we got to split
- 11:19Speaker 1: the money up in a weird way. Also, I'm making
- 11:20Speaker 1: up the rules as I go. Right now, Okay, let's
- 11:24Speaker 1: play who wins it all? Adam Hambrike college football? Who
- 11:28Speaker 1: wins it all? Oh man, I'm gonna it's hard to
- 11:33Speaker 1: argue against Alabama. I'm gonna argue against Alabama though, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: take Ohio State just big. We can't. We can't just
- 11:39Speaker 1: have Alabama win it every year, you guys, well, I
- 11:41Speaker 1: mean they didn't. I know, um, Eddie, give me a
- 11:45Speaker 1: dollar for Alabama? Okay, I mean why not was guaranteed money?
- 11:50Speaker 1: Man kick off? Kevin roll tied, I'm going Obama. Okay,
- 11:53Speaker 1: we've got two Obamas. Mike d I'm going with Georgia.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Oh okay, you know what. First week, I'm also gonna go.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna go. I do want, but I just want
- 12:12Speaker 1: to be different. I don't want to go three deep
- 12:14Speaker 1: on Alabama. We should have all written it down before,
- 12:17Speaker 1: but I thought if I could read it read you
- 12:19Speaker 1: just came up with it. I know, but I'm just
- 12:20Speaker 1: coming up with the game as we go here. But yesterday,
- 12:22Speaker 1: he means, like an hour ago, I'm gonna go with Alabama.
- 12:26Speaker 1: After all that thought, I still go to Aabama. Help. Okay,
- 12:29Speaker 1: So there we go. That's that's NFL. That money is
- 12:31Speaker 1: at one pot in FL. Ready. Ye let's go around
- 12:34Speaker 1: the room, pick your team and it'll cost you one
- 12:36Speaker 1: dollar to get in. Mike, do you get to go first?
- 12:38Speaker 1: I'm going with the Bucks kick off? Kevin, see you
- 12:40Speaker 1: want to go to the Bucks to Yeah, let's go
- 12:44Speaker 1: with the Bucks camp by Adam, I'm going Bengals. Okay, yep,
- 12:48Speaker 1: Eddie a bunch of idiots. It's a dollar. Give me
- 12:50Speaker 1: the cowboys. Give me the cowboys. In week five, I'll
- 12:54Speaker 1: probably change another dollar. I didn't say when they started
- 12:57Speaker 1: out over I'm gonna go with packers so that you know,
- 13:01Speaker 1: you guys can't hop on the packers. So I'm gonna
- 13:03Speaker 1: sit on the packers for a little bit. I'll go
- 13:05Speaker 1: with the packers to win at all. Just we should
- 13:09Speaker 1: have like a jar and have actual dollar bills. We
- 13:12Speaker 1: should put it somewhere when people steal from here. But
- 13:14Speaker 1: it's only again, it's like five bucks, so it's like
- 13:16Speaker 1: a big deal. But everybody has there, Yes, everybody. Everybody
- 13:20Speaker 1: has two dollars. Yes, So just so I'm clear on
- 13:22Speaker 1: the rules. Can once we pick a team, we can't
- 13:26Speaker 1: and then we change from that team, we can't come
- 13:28Speaker 1: back to that team. You can if nobody else is
- 13:30Speaker 1: on it. If no one else is it, but like
- 13:32Speaker 1: Alabama's already been packed, Alabama's on, so it's long if
- 13:35Speaker 1: if one of you Alabamas or me move off of it,
- 13:37Speaker 1: as long as somebody's still on it, it's not open
- 13:39Speaker 1: to take. If everybody moves off, somebody else can get
- 13:41Speaker 1: back on. But if I were to get in a
- 13:43Speaker 1: week four, then the money is all weirdly split up
- 13:45Speaker 1: and we've got to do percentages. You got it. And
- 13:48Speaker 1: if I that's the rules and I don't, I have
- 13:51Speaker 1: to look back what I said. Okay, so we all
- 13:54Speaker 1: have our teams here. I do want to talk about
- 13:56Speaker 1: Draft Kings for a second, because they're awesome and they're
- 13:58Speaker 1: the reason that I'm doing this, and I've been with
- 13:59Speaker 1: Draft Kings for a long time as in not just spokesperson,
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm not just spokesperson. I'm also a client. Um. So
- 14:06Speaker 1: when we're talking about the futures, the Bills are the
- 14:09Speaker 1: favorite at plus six hundred, so they nobody picked the
- 14:12Speaker 1: Bills or the betting favorite. The Bucks are at seven
- 14:15Speaker 1: plus seven hundred, the Chiefs plus thousands, the Packers of
- 14:18Speaker 1: plus a thousand, and the Rams of plus twelve hundred.
- 14:20Speaker 1: So those are your top five teams right now if
- 14:22Speaker 1: you're gonna bet. But even picking a favorite this early,
- 14:25Speaker 1: because I'm not a big favorite guy to bet, but
- 14:27Speaker 1: even picking a favorite, the odds are long enough that
- 14:30Speaker 1: this early there's still some pretty good money there. You've
- 14:32Speaker 1: got Buffalo at plus six hundred, Eddie. If I bet
- 14:35Speaker 1: if I've got a hundred bucks on Buffalo the plus
- 14:38Speaker 1: six hundred, how much money will I make? Uh? Five dollars?
- 14:41Speaker 1: I mean right, because it would not not counting your
- 14:45Speaker 1: one eddie. If I bet a hundred bucks, yeah, you're
- 14:49Speaker 1: all you're almost right. I mean if it's you're not counting.
- 14:51Speaker 1: If I bet a hundred bucks Buffalo plus six hundred,
- 14:54Speaker 1: that is how much money? But so it's seven. But
- 14:57Speaker 1: it's the one the back exactly. You got it. We've
- 15:00Speaker 1: all made our picks. But Draft Kings is awesome. It's
- 15:03Speaker 1: easy to use. You get your money quick back. It's
- 15:05Speaker 1: not like some people that we know that go through
- 15:08Speaker 1: odd foreign places and that's a whole situation. Yeah, don't
- 15:12Speaker 1: don't be that guy. Oh yeah, I appreciate Draft Kings
- 15:15Speaker 1: and being a part of it. Here, Uh, let's do this.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I think this is intrick. We already kind of got
- 15:18Speaker 1: on a little bit. But we're gonna do identify your
- 15:21Speaker 1: team in the first episode, so you know, bias the
- 15:23Speaker 1: whole season. Some people say, crap, you know that they
- 15:26Speaker 1: have a bias. Um, I'll go first. I don't have
- 15:28Speaker 1: an NFL team, but in the Arkansas player on bias
- 15:31Speaker 1: four and I'm a massive Arkansas Razorbacks fan. Um, but
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm not biased there either, just at a bias alert.
- 15:38Speaker 1: I don't have a college team. I went to sam
- 15:40Speaker 1: Houston State. I mean, they're decent at the division, wonderful,
- 15:46Speaker 1: but you're not like following them every week? No, no no, no no.
- 15:48Speaker 1: But on ESPN Plus they do play some of their games,
- 15:50Speaker 1: and I scan it on a Saturday and they're playing,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'll watch it. I guess my point with this is
- 15:55Speaker 1: if you hear us talking about a team in a
- 15:56Speaker 1: segment here, so I guess Samson stays rocking for some
- 15:59Speaker 1: reason if they're coming up. But uh so, no college team,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but also, your NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. Kick
- 16:06Speaker 1: off Kevin. Uh no allegiance to a collegiate team. I'm
- 16:09Speaker 1: like you or I have teams that I don't like
- 16:11Speaker 1: and then teams that I kind of root for for
- 16:12Speaker 1: whatever reason. So that's a bias, Like who do you
- 16:14Speaker 1: not like? Because I don't like Notre Dame. See I
- 16:17Speaker 1: grew up watching them, but I'm not a huge fan.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I don't like Ohuse State, I don't like I might
- 16:21Speaker 1: not want to hear this Oklahoma, I didn't like Oklahomia
- 16:24Speaker 1: until I had to, but now I do. I can't
- 16:27Speaker 1: hate them anymore. But the state's another one. I don't
- 16:29Speaker 1: like Texas, USC. I like Texas, I don't like USC. Uh.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That's pretty much it for the most part. NFL, you
- 16:37Speaker 1: have a New England had on, Yes, Patriots fan. My
- 16:40Speaker 1: dad from back East Rhode Island. So I grew up
- 16:42Speaker 1: in California, but dad's from I've never met anybody from
- 16:44Speaker 1: Rhodel Kevin's a whole like Mystery. Yeah, Mighty Texas, the Cowboys. Okay,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I don't hate people from Texas or even individual Longhorns,
- 16:55Speaker 1: just all of them put the brand on like markets on.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I'm supposed to hate the long Horns. Adam hambric massive
- 17:03Speaker 1: Razorback fan. This is part of the reason why me
- 17:06Speaker 1: and Bobby your friends, um and uh. Yeah. I grew
- 17:09Speaker 1: up in Arkansas, but a lot of my growing up
- 17:12Speaker 1: was in Mississippi. So I was like the only Arkansas
- 17:14Speaker 1: Razorback fan within like two hundred miles, and so I
- 17:17Speaker 1: just like, you know, I just like clung onto that
- 17:20Speaker 1: as a kid, the Razorbacks and Cowboys. Razorbacks and Cowboys,
- 17:23Speaker 1: but also since moving to Nashville. It was kind of
- 17:26Speaker 1: made made space in my heart for the Titans. And
- 17:29Speaker 1: so it's canna have multiple teams, can have multiple teams.
- 17:31Speaker 1: You can't have a one A one B. That's different
- 17:33Speaker 1: conferences though, because now different conferences, you can't have two teams.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You can root along for two teams, but you can't
- 17:40Speaker 1: have two teams. You have one team or no teams.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Is that is that if you have three teams, you
- 17:46Speaker 1: have no teams. You have two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks.
- 17:48Speaker 1: That's like having multiple favorite teams. Um, okay, so this
- 17:52Speaker 1: is our first episode and we're today. We're gonna start
- 17:54Speaker 1: and I've introduced you to Kevin. Now I horribly named
- 17:57Speaker 1: him kick Off Kevin because I was just like, we
- 17:58Speaker 1: gotta call you something. So it's a terrible name. I said,
- 18:01Speaker 1: you can change it, but we didn't. And so in
- 18:03Speaker 1: the theme of naming you horribly, I've named your segment horribly.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So this segment is called kick Off Kevin's five question
- 18:11Speaker 1: tittle tattle That makes no sense whatsoever, But this is
- 18:18Speaker 1: five question tittle tattle where and here's the rules And
- 18:21Speaker 1: went up to this every time. But Kevin will come
- 18:23Speaker 1: and he'll bring me five questions about NFL and n
- 18:25Speaker 1: C double A. I will answer it, and if you
- 18:27Speaker 1: disagree with me, this is your first shot at the whistle.
- 18:29Speaker 1: If I finish and you disagree, blow the whistle and
- 18:33Speaker 1: I will come to you and you can say your part.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I like it. Okay, I've we're seen. I made this
- 18:38Speaker 1: up to and I can't. I can't disagree. Correct, you
- 18:41Speaker 1: are in this. You are the reporter. You cannot disagree.
- 18:44Speaker 1: If later we bring it up again, that's fine. But
- 18:46Speaker 1: you have to be absolutely impartial. Okay, I say the
- 18:49Speaker 1: question and I shut my mouth like a good reporter.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Is okay. First question and the tittle tattle Kevin Alright,
- 18:55Speaker 1: which offseason quarterback in the collegiate world transfer will result
- 18:58Speaker 1: real result in the most wins for their respective program.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Caleb Williams going to USC, Quinn eer Is going to Texas,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Dylan Gabriel to oh you, or Jackson Dart down to
- 19:08Speaker 1: old Miss Jackson Dart's interesting. I mean all those guys
- 19:11Speaker 1: are kind of leaving the same place. It's like it's
- 19:14Speaker 1: like justin Fields and Borough and when you know State Georgia,
- 19:17Speaker 1: they all kind of just shifted a little bit. But
- 19:18Speaker 1: that's happening here a little bit darts interesting because that
- 19:23Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's system is ready to win a little bit
- 19:27Speaker 1: they have. I think they have a pretty decent shot
- 19:29Speaker 1: to be competitive in the SEC West. Um the kind
- 19:33Speaker 1: of Oklahomas from UCF. They are good and they play
- 19:36Speaker 1: in a conference it's not that good, So that's a factor.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Caleb Williams awesome. I watched him a lot because I
- 19:42Speaker 1: watched a lot of the games of my my wife
- 19:45Speaker 1: last year. And when he came in, he took over
- 19:47Speaker 1: for Spencer Rattler. It was the win over Texas when
- 19:51Speaker 1: they came back. They want to he took over the
- 19:54Speaker 1: whole game. Uh, that's pretty awesome. And who's who's the
- 19:57Speaker 1: other option? You game hasn't pay And he hasn't even
- 20:00Speaker 1: won the job. He's going to be the quarterback, but
- 20:02Speaker 1: he hasn't officially won the job yet, at least as
- 20:04Speaker 1: we're recording this. Uh, he's the kid from Ohiouse State.
- 20:07Speaker 1: He got a million bucks I designing pieced out, which
- 20:10Speaker 1: is gonna be interesting to with Manning coming in Arch
- 20:12Speaker 1: Manning next year in to Texas. Now, if he doesn't play,
- 20:15Speaker 1: which they're saying he's not going to freshman year. That
- 20:17Speaker 1: kind of works out because you also have this year
- 20:19Speaker 1: and next year and then maybe he goes pro. That
- 20:22Speaker 1: way you can sit for a year spent a Rattlers
- 20:24Speaker 1: another option in South Carolina. I thought about him, but
- 20:26Speaker 1: he kind of had a down year last year, so yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 1: by then you're getting getting replaced, yeah, and leaving. He
- 20:33Speaker 1: was the odds on favorite to be the first round
- 20:35Speaker 1: draft pick this year, though at one point last year.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with but from your options, give me
- 20:42Speaker 1: your options one more time. Just the quarterbacks. Since Caleb
- 20:45Speaker 1: Williams winning yours in Texas, Dylan Gabriel to ou, I'm
- 20:48Speaker 1: gonna go Gabriel. Gabriel is a good quarterback from ucf
- 20:52Speaker 1: UM and I think, oh you, of all those programs
- 20:54Speaker 1: has the best shot to actually win a lot of
- 20:57Speaker 1: games when that confer rents and possibly be in the playoff.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So that's my answer there, All right? Who who blew
- 21:06Speaker 1: the whistle? Me? Adam? Blew the whistle? All right, Adam?
- 21:09Speaker 1: Because Kayla Williams, he's got a way easier road man.
- 21:12Speaker 1: The Pack twelve is is just not as good as
- 21:16Speaker 1: the Big twelve. And I can't I can't think of
- 21:20Speaker 1: more than three teams that should beat usc UM and
- 21:24Speaker 1: so I think they're gonna at least win nine nine games.
- 21:26Speaker 1: They have to win nine games. I think Oklahoma wins
- 21:29Speaker 1: ten or eleven. They might. I don't know it's gonna
- 21:32Speaker 1: beat them Texas. Listen, Tech, I know Tech, he's gonna
- 21:35Speaker 1: first place vote. Texas is always just a craft shoot.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And then they still have to get by Bailey. They
- 21:40Speaker 1: had to give by Oklahoma State, and and I don't
- 21:42Speaker 1: know that they can win those in her first year
- 21:44Speaker 1: head coach. Those are all like really good programs right now,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I would now, I don't agree, but Ventables has been
- 21:49Speaker 1: in Oklahoma, so it's not like that's all new to him.
- 21:51Speaker 1: He was defence coordinated there for a long time. Um,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I'm still going to Oklahoma. You blew your whistle. Now
- 21:57Speaker 1: you're you're off the show. Anybody feel all right? That's
- 22:01Speaker 1: my answer. That's number one? Give me two, all right?
- 22:03Speaker 1: Do you think Ram's quarterback Matt Stafford's sore elbow will
- 22:06Speaker 1: be the downfall of l A's chance as repeating as
- 22:08Speaker 1: Super Bowl champions? I mean downfall? No, I think it's
- 22:11Speaker 1: gonna be something they have to watch. And I think
- 22:14Speaker 1: they'll have to play a little different because of that.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I think they'll probably not be able to run their
- 22:19Speaker 1: offense as freely as they possibly would want to, even
- 22:21Speaker 1: if he's feeling pretty good. I think they just gotta
- 22:24Speaker 1: They have to monitor it and take care of it,
- 22:26Speaker 1: even if it's not killing at Tendonitis sucks. And I
- 22:29Speaker 1: never even had it at a level like that, but
- 22:31Speaker 1: I had it, and it was for four months. Had
- 22:33Speaker 1: it worked on dry needled, I had. I did everything
- 22:36Speaker 1: to it. Um so downfall. No, and their defense is
- 22:40Speaker 1: so good that they could actually keep them in it
- 22:45Speaker 1: or not mine. They could actually still win a whole
- 22:47Speaker 1: lot of freaking games. So No, and I think Stafford
- 22:50Speaker 1: will probably be fine at the end of it. It's
- 22:53Speaker 1: not like it's throwing elbow. It's that he's coming off
- 22:57Speaker 1: reconstructive surgery. So I'm gonna go They're still in it.
- 23:00Speaker 1: They still have a chance, alright. Next one, Okay, old
- 23:02Speaker 1: faces and new places for the wide receivers. This year,
- 23:04Speaker 1: will they have open or under their two thousand twenty
- 23:07Speaker 1: one totals will start with Tyreek Hill with receiving yards
- 23:09Speaker 1: in one had one thousand, two hundred thirty nine two
- 23:13Speaker 1: is the quarterback, and I know, like people hate too
- 23:14Speaker 1: and they say you can't throw. I've been watching the
- 23:16Speaker 1: Dolphins practice videos and I'm only seen the ones Dolphins
- 23:19Speaker 1: ones want me to see. They were looking pretty good.
- 23:25Speaker 1: That like Tyrek just runs fast. Everybody. He was it
- 23:29Speaker 1: on Instagram, it was on Twitter. Actually, I'm gonna go
- 23:33Speaker 1: with under only because it is to it and not
- 23:38Speaker 1: my homes. Uh, they're gonna really, I mean, waddle is
- 23:41Speaker 1: so good. Here's the thing about Miami though, They've got
- 23:44Speaker 1: a couple elite wide receivers where the Chiefs didn't. She's
- 23:50Speaker 1: had a great tight end. But I don't feel like
- 23:52Speaker 1: they could open it. Why don't can fly to Like
- 23:55Speaker 1: you got two of the fastest guys in the NFL.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm still gonna go under because of the quarterback, not
- 24:00Speaker 1: because I think I like to. Uh, but two is
- 24:02Speaker 1: not my homes So I'm gonna go under. Give another one,
- 24:05Speaker 1: all right? A. J. Brown twenty one or two one
- 24:08Speaker 1: touchdown has had five over under five this year with
- 24:10Speaker 1: the Eagles. I think he has more. I think his
- 24:13Speaker 1: quarterback situation is slightly improved. I don't think that he's
- 24:18Speaker 1: going to a quarterback that's going to change his life.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I think he's got money that will change his life now,
- 24:23Speaker 1: which is the Titans didn't want to pay him. But
- 24:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna say more because I think he's gonna be
- 24:28Speaker 1: more of a focus in that offense where Tannehill they
- 24:31Speaker 1: threw a bit and he was They tried to make
- 24:32Speaker 1: him the focus. They try to make Julio the focus
- 24:34Speaker 1: whenever he was not hurt, but he was also hurt
- 24:36Speaker 1: a little bit. So I'm gonna go he's gonna have
- 24:37Speaker 1: more in Philadelphia, Okay, and Davanta Adams to twoptions had
- 24:43Speaker 1: over under hundred twenty three this year under just because
- 24:48Speaker 1: Renfroze there, uh, that system he will get he would
- 24:52Speaker 1: get a lot of balls. But um, you know between
- 24:56Speaker 1: renfro uh Davante Adam Uh, the tied end in in
- 25:02Speaker 1: Vegas is really good. Waller last year came out and
- 25:05Speaker 1: kind of came out of nowhere as far as the
- 25:07Speaker 1: production he had. So I'm gonna go with still no,
- 25:10Speaker 1: but I think they have a lot more options and
- 25:12Speaker 1: I think he'll he will perform wonderfully, just won't get
- 25:15Speaker 1: as many catches. All right. Next question, Alright, former pit
- 25:19Speaker 1: wide receiver Jordan Addison, who transferred the USC this off season,
- 25:22Speaker 1: recently said I definitely felt like I got drugged through
- 25:25Speaker 1: the mud with the media after catching scrutiny from leaving
- 25:28Speaker 1: Pit to go to USC. Is this new era of
- 25:30Speaker 1: college football free agency bad or good for the game.
- 25:33Speaker 1: If you worked at a business, Eddie, let's say you
- 25:37Speaker 1: work at a business, Let's let's call it Eddie's Cattle Company. Love,
- 25:41Speaker 1: it's where do you work at your own company? But
- 25:43Speaker 1: I and Eddie's Cattle Company made ten bucks a year
- 25:47Speaker 1: and that was what everybody made. And my company makes
- 25:50Speaker 1: ten dollars a year. Just follow me along. I'm keeping
- 25:51Speaker 1: the numbers. Lowers killing and Eddie's cattle Eddie's Cattle Company
- 25:56Speaker 1: the next year made twenty bucks for a whole year.
- 25:57Speaker 1: You like doubled, right, Hey, yeah, that you do. It's
- 26:01Speaker 1: Eddie Cattle Company's growing in popularity. You just you've signed
- 26:04Speaker 1: uh different little deals for your cattle to go to
- 26:06Speaker 1: certain places. Now, now five years later, Eddie Cattle Company
- 26:10Speaker 1: has gone from ten bucks a year to a thousand dollars.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Let's go. You're there's so much money coming into the
- 26:16Speaker 1: cattle company. Now, do you think that the people that
- 26:19Speaker 1: are doing the work to make that money, deserve to
- 26:21Speaker 1: be paid more. You're asking me, as the owner of
- 26:25Speaker 1: my Eddie's cattle comp asking you, as a person sitting
- 26:27Speaker 1: right here. Do you think that the people that are
- 26:29Speaker 1: actually making the doing the work should be paid a
- 26:31Speaker 1: little more for the job that they're doing this making
- 26:32Speaker 1: more money. Treat your people right, Yes, they will work
- 26:35Speaker 1: harder for you. So this is a macro perspective of that. Yes,
- 26:39Speaker 1: he's been dragged through the mud. That's not that's not
- 26:41Speaker 1: him though he's basically a free agent. He let that
- 26:43Speaker 1: be known. People were bidding for him. Um, players should
- 26:47Speaker 1: make money because the n C Double A is college
- 26:50Speaker 1: football is crocro NFL been killing it for a while.
- 26:53Speaker 1: They're making so much money in college football, the TV deals.
- 26:55Speaker 1: You've had to have a billion dollar Big ten deal,
- 26:58Speaker 1: a bit with a b billion dollar and so. But
- 27:02Speaker 1: the only people who shouldn't get paid to the people
- 27:04Speaker 1: that are actually doing the work. So I'm a big
- 27:09Speaker 1: We should pay people for what they're doing. And I
- 27:11Speaker 1: understand people are going with this. College football like what
- 27:13Speaker 1: he used to be. The only other thing that I
- 27:16Speaker 1: could compare it to was the It was controversial when
- 27:19Speaker 1: they started to give athletes scholarships because even back then
- 27:23Speaker 1: they were like, wait, you're gonna pay, You're gonna pay
- 27:25Speaker 1: for their college to play. They should just play the
- 27:27Speaker 1: sport for love of the game. It's the same thing.
- 27:30Speaker 1: It's just more money and you and more people know
- 27:32Speaker 1: about it now because of social media. You're you're paying
- 27:34Speaker 1: them with a free education. Then college of ball didn't
- 27:37Speaker 1: a whole bunch of money, but now it's killing And
- 27:40Speaker 1: so he was dragged with the mud. He deserves it,
- 27:42Speaker 1: but he also deserves what he gets on the other
- 27:44Speaker 1: side of the good stuff too. So that's the name
- 27:47Speaker 1: of the game. You're public, you're making money, you get dragged.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I get dragged with the mud all time. Do I
- 27:52Speaker 1: deserve it? Sometimes? Uh? But I'm a big and I
- 27:57Speaker 1: L fan. I think profit revenue sharing will be a
- 28:01Speaker 1: thing with players. I think players should be paid. And
- 28:04Speaker 1: your question was is it fair for him? You do
- 28:07Speaker 1: you think it's good or bad for the game? It's good.
- 28:09Speaker 1: It's good. They'll figure it out. It's wild west right now.
- 28:11Speaker 1: It's a little too wild, but you gotta go full
- 28:13Speaker 1: while west before you can shut it down a little bit. True,
- 28:15Speaker 1: all right, right, next question, how is this the fifth
- 28:17Speaker 1: title town or fourth. This is the last one, fifth
- 28:19Speaker 1: and final one. The last three champions in college football
- 28:21Speaker 1: have come from the SEC, and Alabama is the favorite. Again,
- 28:24Speaker 1: if picking today, are you choosing the SEC or the field?
- 28:28Speaker 1: Come January? He is probably gonna have one in it.
- 28:31Speaker 1: So I'm just doing odds here, not about Alabama or Georgia.
- 28:34Speaker 1: But if the SEC has this person in the championship game,
- 28:36Speaker 1: that's still fifty fifty. I'm gonna go SEC. I'm big
- 28:39Speaker 1: SEC homer. But if I'm just doing probabilities, I would
- 28:43Speaker 1: still go SEC. New you said Alabama and Georgia and
- 28:46Speaker 1: that's it versus the field. Maybe I feel a little
- 28:48Speaker 1: different about that because I feel like somebody could squeak
- 28:50Speaker 1: up and probably surprise one of those two teams on
- 28:52Speaker 1: one of the sides. Possibly surprise those are my two
- 28:56Speaker 1: words I'm using. I don't think they will, but the
- 28:59Speaker 1: SEC is tough, so I would take the SEC for sure.
- 29:03Speaker 1: All right, Hey, kick off Kevin. Terrible name, tittle tattle,
- 29:06Speaker 1: terrible name for a segment, but not bad. What the
- 29:08Speaker 1: whole segment? Adam blue whistle and he has big balls
- 29:11Speaker 1: and he's done though. Yeah, yeah, I was like, um,
- 29:15Speaker 1: so Dan Patrick, love him, Dan Patrick Radio Show, Dan Patrick, ESPN,
- 29:20Speaker 1: Dan Patrick Sun and Night Football. I was honored. It
- 29:23Speaker 1: was amazing. And here's my interview with Dan Patrick. Whoa Dan,
- 29:27Speaker 1: Good to talk to you. I'm big, just massive fan,
- 29:30Speaker 1: just a massive, massive fans. So you know when they
- 29:33Speaker 1: said you would actually spend a few minutes with me,
- 29:34Speaker 1: I I was shocked first of all, and it elated.
- 29:38Speaker 1: So just humble thank you before we start, great, great,
- 29:41Speaker 1: Glad to Glad to hill. You know, whenever I'm doing
- 29:45Speaker 1: an interview, and in one capacity or the other, I
- 29:47Speaker 1: do them all the day, all the time, either on
- 29:49Speaker 1: the radio show or on a TV show. But I
- 29:52Speaker 1: it starts to just be a wheel and you're just
- 29:55Speaker 1: doing them as they come, and you rarely get excited.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Sometimes you're a little more up one because you know
- 30:00Speaker 1: the value of a bit. At this point in your career,
- 30:03Speaker 1: do you still get pumped about interviews and with who? Especially?
- 30:07Speaker 1: I think if you have somebody who's gonna be honest
- 30:09Speaker 1: with you, because you want to make sure you're not
- 30:11Speaker 1: wasting the time of your audience. And I always want
- 30:14Speaker 1: to make sure if I have somebody on maybe you
- 30:17Speaker 1: don't know who they are, but I'm gonna bring out
- 30:18Speaker 1: something in them that you would be interested in. I
- 30:20Speaker 1: like the challenge of doing that. But it's the person
- 30:23Speaker 1: who's going to be honest or most honest that I
- 30:26Speaker 1: find interesting. It's the person who tries to dodge what
- 30:29Speaker 1: you're asking, doesn't give you much, wants to be very vanilla.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Then that's where it gets really tedious. Give me an
- 30:36Speaker 1: example of somebody who's great that you know, all right,
- 30:38Speaker 1: we're gonna do it, and they're gonna be awesome. Charles
- 30:40Speaker 1: Barkley is always great. Reggie Miller is always great. I
- 30:44Speaker 1: find that if you know my guests know if they
- 30:47Speaker 1: come on the show that this is what we're asking
- 30:50Speaker 1: them to do, don't come on the show unless you're
- 30:54Speaker 1: ready to really give something, reveals something. But it's up
- 30:57Speaker 1: to me sometimes to kind of extract um that from
- 31:02Speaker 1: these guys. They get interviewed more than anybody. When you
- 31:04Speaker 1: think about it, athletes are interviewed more than anybody. You
- 31:07Speaker 1: know where they are, you know every day at practice, um,
- 31:11Speaker 1: you know, before a game, after a game. With the NBA,
- 31:14Speaker 1: you have to have an approach that is refreshing to
- 31:17Speaker 1: them and their competitors. And I find I got to
- 31:20Speaker 1: compete with you to get an answer out of you.
- 31:23Speaker 1: John McEnroe said you gotta work harder to get a
- 31:26Speaker 1: better answer out of me, and he was right. This
- 31:28Speaker 1: was early in my career, and I never forgot that
- 31:32Speaker 1: sometimes you gotta work harder to get a better answer
- 31:34Speaker 1: out of somebody. Do you feel like you're a better
- 31:36Speaker 1: interviewee because you interview so many people? Because you know,
- 31:41Speaker 1: what I'll do is all critique your questions while you're
- 31:45Speaker 1: asking them, and it's not fair to you. But I've
- 31:49Speaker 1: given so much thought to interviewing. When I was at ESPN,
- 31:53Speaker 1: I did a seminar that was five days, eight hours
- 31:57Speaker 1: each day on interviewing. It was the best thing that
- 32:01Speaker 1: ever happened to me in my career. But it's the
- 32:04Speaker 1: worst thing when you start to listen to radio or
- 32:06Speaker 1: you listen to somebody on TV doing interviews, because you're
- 32:10Speaker 1: listening for the things that they're not doing what you
- 32:14Speaker 1: were told to do to bring out a good interview.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Open ended questions, short question, You know that first question,
- 32:21Speaker 1: What are you setting up for the next question? For
- 32:23Speaker 1: your last question? What are you trying to get at?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Like there's this strategy to it. And I wouldn't have
- 32:28Speaker 1: known this until I took this class. It was a
- 32:32Speaker 1: guy named John Swatsky out of Canada. It was the
- 32:35Speaker 1: master of the Interview, and I was fascinated by it. Uh.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I don't know who else, if anybody else was at ESPN.
- 32:42Speaker 1: They they were mad at me because I wanted to
- 32:45Speaker 1: bring this guy in to teach us how to interview,
- 32:47Speaker 1: because I saw an article and people are like kicking
- 32:50Speaker 1: and screaming going to this seminar, and they didn't realize
- 32:54Speaker 1: that I'm the reason why they were going there because
- 32:55Speaker 1: I wanted this guy to come in and help us.
- 32:57Speaker 1: You know, when you talk about the ESPN stuff, and
- 33:00Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of questions about that, and
- 33:01Speaker 1: I still don't, but it makes me think about, you know,
- 33:04Speaker 1: my whole lifetime of watching you on esp and even
- 33:06Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Jeopardy, which I was a big Jeopardy
- 33:08Speaker 1: guys and a music guy obviously, and then you know,
- 33:11Speaker 1: watching on Sunday nights and I would come home from
- 33:13Speaker 1: the radio show and watch your radio show, you and
- 33:16Speaker 1: all the dan Ads, like just a massive fan. But
- 33:19Speaker 1: you know, I've started to realize that I, as a
- 33:21Speaker 1: public figure, people think they know me at times more
- 33:23Speaker 1: than they actually do, and they'll come up and so,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you know, one of the things that I'm most curious about.
- 33:28Speaker 1: It's like if you go to your house and I
- 33:31Speaker 1: feel like I know, yeah, but I obviously don't on
- 33:32Speaker 1: a personal level, Like in your house, what is your
- 33:35Speaker 1: favorite picture in your house? Which if I just asked
- 33:38Speaker 1: that question, what is it, Who's in it. I'm a
- 33:40Speaker 1: big fan of the artist Wolf Khan. He passed away.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I think he was just over the age of ninety.
- 33:48Speaker 1: And you can't be in a bad mood when you
- 33:49Speaker 1: look at a painting of Wolf Khan. Now pictures, Uh,
- 33:53Speaker 1: there's a picture of my daughter in the library where
- 33:56Speaker 1: she's in Galway and she's in a mud puddle and
- 34:03Speaker 1: she's probably eleven years of age, and she's got mudd
- 34:06Speaker 1: all over her. She's thrown mud in the air and
- 34:08Speaker 1: she got the biggest smile and it's one of those
- 34:11Speaker 1: moments that you just go that person is having a
- 34:14Speaker 1: great day. So I tend to gravitate towards you feel
- 34:19Speaker 1: better after you you see that picture and you see
- 34:21Speaker 1: a painting from Wolf Kan. What about if I ask
- 34:24Speaker 1: about sports, what personal sports picture do you have either
- 34:27Speaker 1: you're somewhere with someone that you look at and it's
- 34:30Speaker 1: not it doesn't mean as much because obviously that's your daughter,
- 34:34Speaker 1: but it's like, man, that was a great moment, either
- 34:36Speaker 1: in sports life or my life. I was in a
- 34:38Speaker 1: boxing ring. It was fight night in Arizona, and I
- 34:43Speaker 1: was the host and we were honoring Mohammed Ali and
- 34:47Speaker 1: we were going to give him this ring. And Mohammed
- 34:51Speaker 1: Ali is standing next to me waiting for me to
- 34:54Speaker 1: give him this ring, and I'm describing to the audience
- 34:58Speaker 1: what this ring signifies. I'm going to hand this to
- 35:01Speaker 1: Mohammed Ali. And you know that this was probably a
- 35:06Speaker 1: twenty years ago, but you know Parkinson's, the onset of
- 35:10Speaker 1: Parkinson had started there. And I just remember in the moment,
- 35:15Speaker 1: I'm thinking I'm gonna give a ring to Mohammed Ali,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and I sort of fanboyd that. I was like, I
- 35:23Speaker 1: gotta get this out of my head, because I sometimes
- 35:25Speaker 1: that's the problem. I have too many things I'm thinking
- 35:28Speaker 1: of when I'm doing something that I shouldn't be thinking about.
- 35:31Speaker 1: But that moment where I look and I go, who
- 35:34Speaker 1: would have thought that a kid came from a small
- 35:36Speaker 1: town in Ohio. Is there with Mohammad Ali, honoring Mohammed Ali,
- 35:41Speaker 1: and I'm it's never lost on me where I came
- 35:44Speaker 1: from and growing up in a big family, that I
- 35:48Speaker 1: came a long way, but that you can come from
- 35:52Speaker 1: a small town where you never would have thought you've
- 35:54Speaker 1: gotten there. So it brings out a lot of different
- 35:57Speaker 1: thoughts memories there of you're still this kid who was
- 36:01Speaker 1: from Mason, Ohio, but you got here. Don't forget where
- 36:04Speaker 1: you came from from Mountain Pine, Arkansas, population seven uh
- 36:10Speaker 1: So similar instances, you know, growing up and there wasn't
- 36:14Speaker 1: a lot of resource where I came from. So how
- 36:17Speaker 1: what showed you and who showed you that there was
- 36:21Speaker 1: actually a path to greater even though you couldn't quite
- 36:24Speaker 1: define greater. I think I was too naive or stupid
- 36:28Speaker 1: to let reality sink in and that you can't do this.
- 36:32Speaker 1: I didn't have a plan B So when people said, oh,
- 36:35Speaker 1: if you weren't going to be a sports canister, what
- 36:37Speaker 1: would you be? And I'd been like, I don't, I
- 36:38Speaker 1: don't know. I'm guessing bartender. But I didn't know. And
- 36:43Speaker 1: I had been rejected in quite a few places. I
- 36:47Speaker 1: lost a job, local job in Dayton, Ohio, and I
- 36:51Speaker 1: was distraught. So I'm I'm twenty six seven. I don't
- 36:56Speaker 1: have a full time job in sports, and that's old
- 36:59Speaker 1: in this business to get started, and I thought I'm
- 37:03Speaker 1: never gonna get in. I was doing morning drive radio
- 37:06Speaker 1: rock and roll station, and I thought, this is what
- 37:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna be doing. And the next girlfriend said, just
- 37:13Speaker 1: come down to Atlanta. I said, time, I don't want
- 37:15Speaker 1: to go to Atlanta. She goes, no, just come down
- 37:17Speaker 1: your CNN's hiring. I go, I just I lost out
- 37:20Speaker 1: on a job in Dayton, Ohio. I'm not going to
- 37:21Speaker 1: get a job at CNN. So I go down there
- 37:25Speaker 1: lo and behold. I go in there, last dam in Atlanta.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Give him my resume. Tape guy says, when can you start?
- 37:33Speaker 1: So if I don't go to Atlanta, I'm not here.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I mean I'm somewhere, but I'm not here because CNN
- 37:42Speaker 1: I was there for five years and after that I
- 37:45Speaker 1: went to ESPN for eighteen. So I always tell people
- 37:50Speaker 1: right place, right time, but you better be right about
- 37:53Speaker 1: what you have to know, like you have to know
- 37:56Speaker 1: it if you get that opportunity. And I'm sure that
- 37:58Speaker 1: at some point somebody wanted to see if you knew
- 38:01Speaker 1: exactly what you needed to know, and you did, or
- 38:06Speaker 1: you wouldn't be seated there. Like we get those moments,
- 38:08Speaker 1: but be ready for the moment, and that was something
- 38:11Speaker 1: that stayed with me, stays with me. I tell that
- 38:13Speaker 1: to my kids all the time. Be prepared, be overprepared.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Even if you don't get it. You'll still show that
- 38:20Speaker 1: that person you you showed them respect by being prepared.
- 38:23Speaker 1: You mentioned eighteen years at ESPN, and I worked on
- 38:27Speaker 1: American Idol for four seasons, and I would talk to
- 38:28Speaker 1: some of the old contestants from back when Idol was
- 38:31Speaker 1: so big, and but they said they didn't know it,
- 38:33Speaker 1: they couldn't feel it because they were in it now.
- 38:36Speaker 1: ESPN was a culture, especially for me, Was that situation
- 38:40Speaker 1: similar because you guys weren't changing culture. Did you know
- 38:43Speaker 1: it and could you feel it then? Or was it
- 38:46Speaker 1: its own bubble? We were cordoned off, absolutely, and I
- 38:50Speaker 1: think that's by design by management. They didn't want us
- 38:54Speaker 1: to be bigger than those four letters. Not that we
- 38:58Speaker 1: could be, but they didn't want us coloring outside the lines.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Management even told me on one occasion, we don't want
- 39:05Speaker 1: another Chris Berman, because Berman is the most important person
- 39:10Speaker 1: in the history of ESPN. But he was sort of,
- 39:14Speaker 1: you know, a hot air balloon that was higher than
- 39:16Speaker 1: everybody else but still tethered. And they didn't want that.
- 39:20Speaker 1: They didn't want that to happen to me or Keith
- 39:22Speaker 1: Oberman or Stewart Scott or whoever you want to throw
- 39:25Speaker 1: in there. So they didn't want you to be a personality.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Um So I think that that was kind of eye
- 39:33Speaker 1: opening that we were getting honored. Mentioned. Uh, people came
- 39:40Speaker 1: up to us when we saw them when we were
- 39:42Speaker 1: out of events, but we weren't in New York or
- 39:45Speaker 1: l A. We're in Bristol, Connecticut. We didn't run into anybody.
- 39:48Speaker 1: But when we did, then you heard the impact that
- 39:52Speaker 1: we were having. And you kind of juxtaposed that too
- 39:57Speaker 1: management that we never knew our ratings. They never told us.
- 40:01Speaker 1: They didn't. They don't want to empower you and say,
- 40:04Speaker 1: you guys are really kicking ass here. It was like, yeah,
- 40:07Speaker 1: you guys, solid and improving, you know, kind of doing
- 40:10Speaker 1: a good job there. You're like, damn, I thought I
- 40:12Speaker 1: thought we were good. But that was that was eye
- 40:16Speaker 1: opening there that management wanted to kind of keep us
- 40:19Speaker 1: under their thumb. Final question about the ESPN days and
- 40:23Speaker 1: as far as when who is would you say as
- 40:25Speaker 1: your BFF now from those days, if you had to
- 40:28Speaker 1: pick one, oh, I would say that I correspond with
- 40:32Speaker 1: Rich Eyes and more than anybody else. The people I
- 40:36Speaker 1: really enjoyed were producers, associate producers, the makeup people, camera people.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Those are the people I always enjoyed being around. Nobody
- 40:47Speaker 1: wants to be around talent because all we do is
- 40:50Speaker 1: talk about ourselves. I wanted to be around the people
- 40:54Speaker 1: who were just normal or as normal as possible in
- 40:57Speaker 1: our business. And those are the people I'm still in
- 41:00Speaker 1: touch with, uh more the producers than the talent there,
- 41:05Speaker 1: but probably Rich Eyes. Where does conference realignment end or
- 41:09Speaker 1: where is it in five years? From where you sit
- 41:13Speaker 1: right now, I still think we're headed towards an a
- 41:16Speaker 1: f C NFC model with college football, where we just say,
- 41:19Speaker 1: let's let's pull back the curtain, let's not kill anybody.
- 41:22Speaker 1: This is big time business, have revenue sharing, UM gonna
- 41:27Speaker 1: treat them like their professionals, which they are. And I
- 41:31Speaker 1: think you might have thirty teams in the NFC version,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and thirty has sixty teams. Let's say a sixteen team
- 41:39Speaker 1: playoff and you know, you might have relegation where maybe
- 41:44Speaker 1: the sixty team drops out with the team that won
- 41:48Speaker 1: the national championship in one double A or or something
- 41:51Speaker 1: that creates excitement at the top and the bottom. But
- 41:55Speaker 1: I do think we're headed towards let's just have the
- 41:59Speaker 1: fifty or six sixty best college football teams actually compete
- 42:03Speaker 1: for a national championship and then you have everybody else
- 42:06Speaker 1: after that with the fluidity of realignment or even in
- 42:09Speaker 1: I L, like let's do five years in the future.
- 42:12Speaker 1: There what's different about the n i L structure in
- 42:15Speaker 1: five years If you're just playing psychic then is today? Well,
- 42:18Speaker 1: the coaches have to embrace this. You know, when Kirby's
- 42:22Speaker 1: Smart at Georgia signs a ten million dollar a year contract,
- 42:25Speaker 1: but then bemoans the fact that we're paying these players
- 42:30Speaker 1: a hundred thousand dollars or two hundred thousand dollars, I
- 42:33Speaker 1: have a dose in reality here. Now you're getting paid
- 42:37Speaker 1: and you don't want them to get paid. Your job
- 42:40Speaker 1: is tougher because of name, image and like plaining simple
- 42:43Speaker 1: these coaches. I don't care if it's Nick Saban, Kirby Smart,
- 42:46Speaker 1: whoever it is. This makes your you know, the transfer portal, name, image,
- 42:50Speaker 1: and likeness makes it difficult. But when the source says
- 42:53Speaker 1: to me, you know, the going rate for a running
- 42:55Speaker 1: back is this price, the going rate for a quarterback
- 42:59Speaker 1: is this, and the going rate for a wide It's
- 43:01Speaker 1: almost like you have a list, like a menu where
- 43:04Speaker 1: you go how much is the stake? It's this, um,
- 43:09Speaker 1: you know, how much is that? It's that. That's where
- 43:12Speaker 1: we're headed with all. We're already there. So I think
- 43:15Speaker 1: embracing name, image and likeness, maybe you kind of put
- 43:19Speaker 1: them all under the same umbrella. Maybe you're you're paying them.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Maybe there's a salary cap that you have. I got.
- 43:27Speaker 1: You can't say that won't happen because look at where
- 43:30Speaker 1: we are now. Who would have thought Texas and Oklahoma
- 43:33Speaker 1: would be in the sec U, C l A, and
- 43:35Speaker 1: USC going to the Big ten. See, you can't say, well,
- 43:38Speaker 1: I don't ever happen, because in college football it could happen.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And I think, as we move forward with this, how
- 43:45Speaker 1: much are the players involved in this? Do we come
- 43:48Speaker 1: up with legislation that limits this? I mean, you still
- 43:52Speaker 1: have to declare this is income here, so it's got
- 43:56Speaker 1: to be above board. And I think that that kind
- 43:59Speaker 1: of takes a way the if you take away name,
- 44:02Speaker 1: image and likeness Bobby, you're going to have back to
- 44:05Speaker 1: the old days of cheating. This is just above board.
- 44:07Speaker 1: It's like, hey, what'd you give him a hundreds thousand dollars? Okay?
- 44:11Speaker 1: Whereas before would be like do you hear what Eric
- 44:13Speaker 1: Dickerson got at s m U. Gave him a trans
- 44:17Speaker 1: am and they gave his mom a house. You know
- 44:20Speaker 1: that That was always the kind of whispers behind all
- 44:24Speaker 1: of the Now it's above board, Like Zion Williamson, I
- 44:26Speaker 1: don't know what he got a duke, but he got
- 44:29Speaker 1: something rights, yeah, yeah, but you know, these guys get money.
- 44:37Speaker 1: It may not be from the school, the coach, but
- 44:39Speaker 1: the shoe company. So it's here, it's been here now
- 44:43Speaker 1: at least it's above board. But five years down the road,
- 44:47Speaker 1: I don't know what the gold salary is going to be.
- 44:50Speaker 1: But a a star quarterback, you know he's gonna get
- 44:55Speaker 1: a NFL like they're making more money when you factor
- 44:58Speaker 1: that in. Alabama's quarterback Heisman Trophy winner made more than
- 45:03Speaker 1: the previous quarterback at Alabama, Jalen Hurts playing in the NFL,
- 45:09Speaker 1: so he makes more money at Alabama ben Jalen Hurts
- 45:12Speaker 1: does in the NFL. Crazy, but that's the reality we
- 45:16Speaker 1: have right now. And the fact that it's snuck up
- 45:18Speaker 1: on all these chancellors and presidents and athletic directors is
- 45:22Speaker 1: like mind boggling because it was there to see the
- 45:25Speaker 1: final three questions. Okay, talking about quarterbacks, you mentioned Arch,
- 45:29Speaker 1: there's not a lot of not a lot of Arch
- 45:32Speaker 1: not just tape, but not a lot of Arch data.
- 45:34Speaker 1: He's not competing against other quarterbacks at that high school level.
- 45:38Speaker 1: He's not going to camps where what do you see
- 45:41Speaker 1: happening with Arch Manning. Well, that's a lot of hype.
- 45:44Speaker 1: You know, Bryce Harper lived up to it. Lebron James
- 45:47Speaker 1: lived up to it. There there have been players who
- 45:50Speaker 1: live up to the hype. But as far as an
- 45:53Speaker 1: NFL quarterback hype, boy, this is up there. I mean,
- 45:56Speaker 1: this is bigger than Eli or even Pete the hype
- 46:01Speaker 1: living up to you know, Archie Manning at Old Miss
- 46:04Speaker 1: when he was up for the Heisman Trophy. I just wonder,
- 46:07Speaker 1: can you be good enough where people go? Man, he's
- 46:10Speaker 1: everything we thought he was going to be, Like Tiger
- 46:13Speaker 1: Woods was everything we thought he was going to be
- 46:15Speaker 1: and then some Serena Williams everything we thought, and then some.
- 46:19Speaker 1: I don't know if Arch, because it's based off of
- 46:22Speaker 1: the people around you. He's relying on that. Bryce Harper
- 46:26Speaker 1: goes to the plate, it's Bryce Harper. Lebron James can
- 46:29Speaker 1: have the ball in his hands. Tiger has a club
- 46:32Speaker 1: in his hand, you know, Serena has her tennis racket.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Arch is gonna have to how good's his offensive line,
- 46:39Speaker 1: how's goods his wide receivers like those? Is his defense?
- 46:42Speaker 1: Any good to stop anybody? Those are the things that
- 46:45Speaker 1: you have to factor in it. And I wonder if
- 46:47Speaker 1: you'll be able to live up to that hype. I
- 46:49Speaker 1: doubt it because that hype is so much, so big.
- 46:52Speaker 1: You mentioned the word source. How hard is it to
- 46:55Speaker 1: have a source that's telling you something but you can't
- 46:57Speaker 1: say it. You almost have to act like you don't
- 46:58Speaker 1: know it. For the most part, I don't want to
- 47:00Speaker 1: know if I can't use it. I say that too,
- 47:03Speaker 1: And I'm fortunate having been in this business for almost
- 47:06Speaker 1: forty years. You meet people that you trust because you
- 47:09Speaker 1: can go back to them or they'll come. They'll they'll
- 47:12Speaker 1: let you know if you're right or wrong on something.
- 47:14Speaker 1: But I don't want to know something that I can't
- 47:18Speaker 1: even hint at because then I'm not being Then it's
- 47:21Speaker 1: gossipy and I don't want to do that. But it
- 47:23Speaker 1: is a tough situation to be in. Sometimes if somebody goes, hey,
- 47:27Speaker 1: you can't use it, I'll don't. Then don't tell me
- 47:29Speaker 1: because I don't want to know. But when they're like,
- 47:32Speaker 1: you didn't get it from me, which is different, but
- 47:36Speaker 1: sources can be tricky. Last question, and this has really
- 47:40Speaker 1: been a treat for me, way more for so for
- 47:42Speaker 1: you because I'm sure you've rated this and given it
- 47:45Speaker 1: a low grade what you do. And as soon as
- 47:47Speaker 1: you said that, I was like, god, dang, And now
- 47:48Speaker 1: I am going to actually feel like I be a
- 47:50Speaker 1: critique during the interview. I didn't feel like that going in.
- 47:52Speaker 1: But final question is, uh, you know I'm about to
- 47:55Speaker 1: go through a big contract negotiation here with a right
- 48:00Speaker 1: so and it's it's it's it's quite the monster. I'm
- 48:03Speaker 1: not gonna lie to you. What's what's the what am I?
- 48:06Speaker 1: What am I not knowing to ask for? What is
- 48:08Speaker 1: it you don't have? I don't know. I'm pretty good dance, Yes,
- 48:12Speaker 1: I always look at it this way. I love for
- 48:15Speaker 1: fifteen years being at ESPN, and I could have gotten
- 48:18Speaker 1: jobs outside of it, but I loved what I was doing.
- 48:21Speaker 1: But you can't tell them that you love it so
- 48:23Speaker 1: much that you don't factor in what you're worth outside
- 48:27Speaker 1: of what you're doing. If that makes sense that, hey,
- 48:31Speaker 1: on the open market, what would I be worth? Take
- 48:33Speaker 1: care of me here? And I always took less, but
- 48:37Speaker 1: I didn't have any I didn't want to do anything else.
- 48:39Speaker 1: So do what you love. And it's really hard to
- 48:43Speaker 1: find that because if you let money be the carrot
- 48:46Speaker 1: that's in front of you, you'll always chase it and
- 48:50Speaker 1: you'll never be satisfied. But if you have people you
- 48:53Speaker 1: like you got, you know, they make sure that the
- 48:56Speaker 1: people who are surrounding you are good people people. I
- 49:01Speaker 1: love seeing my guys every single day. We just laugh.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I mean, you're serious when you need to be, but
- 49:07Speaker 1: we have fun. I enjoy them. And it's twenty years
- 49:11Speaker 1: for some of these guys. But I think that's the
- 49:14Speaker 1: moment you know that you've got to kind of go.
- 49:17Speaker 1: And if you say to your wife, what do you think?
- 49:20Speaker 1: Because sometimes it's my wife is the smartest person and
- 49:23Speaker 1: you know, you get somebody on the outside kind of
- 49:25Speaker 1: looking at all this because we get too close to
- 49:28Speaker 1: the sun and you don't want to be Icarus here
- 49:30Speaker 1: and you know, go down in flame. So do what
- 49:34Speaker 1: you love as long as you can do it, or
- 49:37Speaker 1: you can just take a shipload of money and then
- 49:38Speaker 1: running with it. But yeah, I was hoping for like airplane.
- 49:41Speaker 1: That's I'm just massive fan, just massive, And thank you
- 49:47Speaker 1: for your time, and um, you know that's all. And
- 49:50Speaker 1: I know you've got a busy day head, so thank
- 49:51Speaker 1: you very much. And one day, hopefully I hope I
- 49:54Speaker 1: can touch you soon. I would Uh yeah, I hope
- 49:57Speaker 1: we crossed pants. Congratulations on all your success. And I
- 50:01Speaker 1: think that it's not my accident, you know, but I
- 50:04Speaker 1: think that that's important as you move move forward, don't
- 50:07Speaker 1: forget the kid from a small town in Arkansas, because
- 50:11Speaker 1: stay in humble, because this business will bite you in
- 50:14Speaker 1: the ask quickly. Thank you, Dan, have a good day.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Thank you, Bobby. Alright. Awesome to have Dan Patrick on
- 50:23Speaker 1: you guys. Follow us at twenty five whistles Instagram. We
- 50:26Speaker 1: got like five pictures up. I hate going to Instagram
- 50:28Speaker 1: page whe they don't have the even the thing covered,
- 50:30Speaker 1: it's still white under some of the pictures. I feel
- 50:32Speaker 1: like such a loser, Like who would follow that? And
- 50:33Speaker 1: I'm like, please follow us? Uh. So that's up a
- 50:36Speaker 1: story I will share with you guys, and you can
- 50:38Speaker 1: tell me if I'm a weirdo or not. And I
- 50:40Speaker 1: want to pull up exactly what I got here. But
- 50:43Speaker 1: there was an estate sale from a former Arkansas and Adam,
- 50:49Speaker 1: you're almost eliminated from this because of your bias. There
- 50:51Speaker 1: was an estate sale from a former Arkansas UH sportscaster,
- 50:55Speaker 1: like probably the most famous in my life. He died
- 50:58Speaker 1: years ago in a car car wreck, Paul Eels. He died,
- 51:01Speaker 1: and so his like his wife, his family, they auctioned
- 51:05Speaker 1: off a bunch of his stuff, and so I just
- 51:09Speaker 1: told about it. So I went over to it. How
- 51:12Speaker 1: about all kinds of stuff? Oh my gosh, Mike, did
- 51:15Speaker 1: you just laugh at that? I bought all kinds of
- 51:20Speaker 1: stuff like Paul Eel's estate sale? Um, what do you mean?
- 51:24Speaker 1: How how much stuff did you buy? Well? I bought
- 51:27Speaker 1: like a couple in the box still Arkansas razorback cheerleader barbies.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Are you serious? Like, what are you gonna do with that?
- 51:34Speaker 1: I don't know, but I was like, one, it's Paul Els,
- 51:37Speaker 1: what are you doing? I don't know? And for that
- 51:40Speaker 1: somebody started biding against me, and so I started getting
- 51:41Speaker 1: competitive bucks on theres two barbies. I'm not saying Granny
- 51:47Speaker 1: and Sheridan is piste. So that happened. I bought like
- 51:50Speaker 1: some old cool Here we go, let's see what I
- 51:53Speaker 1: got here. Please log into your account below. Hopefully it'll
- 51:56Speaker 1: just show me what all I bought and this will
- 51:57Speaker 1: be easy. I bought like some old signs stuff by
- 52:00Speaker 1: old body that's super cool to anybody but me. Um, Like,
- 52:05Speaker 1: I bought a Houston Nuts signed football. He was fired
- 52:08Speaker 1: to the coach that, yeah, I bought some old sweatshirts.
- 52:11Speaker 1: They're like extra two x large. Will you wear them
- 52:14Speaker 1: night gowns? Yeah? There you go. Yeah, so I bought
- 52:17Speaker 1: like seven things. Is it weird that I went through
- 52:19Speaker 1: a Sportscasters a state sale and bought a bunch of
- 52:23Speaker 1: razorback stuff? Kick off, Kevin, No, I mean some of
- 52:27Speaker 1: the stuff that you bought, for sure, like the barbie's
- 52:29Speaker 1: maybe a little weird questionable, But going or buying stuff
- 52:33Speaker 1: from the state sale, No, I mean that's something that
- 52:35Speaker 1: you as you said, your childhood growing up. He was
- 52:38Speaker 1: a big impact in your childhood and your big sports fan,
- 52:41Speaker 1: big Arkansas fans, so totally normal. I bought the football
- 52:44Speaker 1: Fever package a buch of sign crap. I bought the
- 52:46Speaker 1: forty minutes nineties sweatshirts. Forty minutes at hell, they were
- 52:50Speaker 1: extra extra large. I'm not gonna wear that. I don't
- 52:53Speaker 1: know what that means. It's forty minutes. Hell. Nolan Richardson's
- 52:56Speaker 1: basketball they play, they full corp pressed the whole time.
- 52:58Speaker 1: The whole game. They would just run people off the court. Yeah,
- 53:02Speaker 1: it makes her a good story. Else, he died. I
- 53:06Speaker 1: bought it. I should get it in the next few days.
- 53:08Speaker 1: And I think it's pretty cool. Most importantly, what does
- 53:10Speaker 1: your wife think about all this? And tell her? Well,
- 53:15Speaker 1: I didn't tell her to already bought it all and
- 53:16Speaker 1: it was already on the way because I did tell her.
- 53:20Speaker 1: But in her response was why what are you gonna
- 53:22Speaker 1: do with it? And I was like, I just want
- 53:24Speaker 1: to have it, and she was like okay, and so
- 53:28Speaker 1: I I had and she said, look, if I didn't
- 53:31Speaker 1: know you were so responsible with the money, I would go,
- 53:35Speaker 1: why are you buying that? You just wasted money. She was,
- 53:37Speaker 1: I know you're responsible, but I also know you're extra rabbid,
- 53:41Speaker 1: and that's just what I deal with every day. So
- 53:43Speaker 1: I will bring it in and let you guys know.
- 53:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you touch some of it. Okay, cool,
- 53:46Speaker 1: I want to touch the barbies. One final one here
- 53:50Speaker 1: Costco selling individual game football tickets in South Carolina where
- 53:53Speaker 1: you can go through Costco and they have boxes and
- 53:54Speaker 1: it's like buy individual game tickets, which I was pretty
- 53:56Speaker 1: legit because it's like, hey, buy individual game tickets. Usually
- 54:00Speaker 1: you're like, I don't know if you have a casual fan,
- 54:02Speaker 1: I can get my phone out of there. But you're
- 54:04Speaker 1: going through the inner package at Costco and you're in
- 54:06Speaker 1: South Carolina and you're like, oh, I like to go
- 54:07Speaker 1: to this game. It's tangible, you can buy it. That's
- 54:10Speaker 1: pretty cool. People were giving him crap I thought was brilliant.
- 54:12Speaker 1: So if you're in South Carolina, would go a game,
- 54:13Speaker 1: card game and they may actually be pretty good this year.
- 54:17Speaker 1: We shall see. They played well last year. At the
- 54:20Speaker 1: end of the year. They have a good coach, we'll
- 54:22Speaker 1: see Spencer rollers and a really good quarterback. Regardless of
- 54:26Speaker 1: what happened, he's still a really good quarterback. We'll see
- 54:29Speaker 1: what happens in that system. Um. So those are those two.
- 54:32Speaker 1: We're gonna get to the Sam Pittman interview. Now, we
- 54:34Speaker 1: didn't talk a lot about Arkansas specifically, but he is
- 54:36Speaker 1: the head football coach in the University of Arkansas and
- 54:39Speaker 1: it's awesome to have him on. So here it is
- 54:40Speaker 1: my interview with Sam Pittman, coach. How are you man,
- 54:43Speaker 1: I'm doing great. Hey, I've been good. You know, I've
- 54:46Speaker 1: been trying to catch some practice reports. Like at this
- 54:48Speaker 1: point before the season starts, as you guys are in camp,
- 54:51Speaker 1: are you more nervous excited? Are you always thinking football now?
- 54:56Speaker 1: Is there a switch that flips on? Yeah, I'm really
- 54:58Speaker 1: excited about, um, the progress of guys from spring bolder.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Now I'm really excited to see the new guys, you know,
- 55:07Speaker 1: the ones that weren't here. Uh there was only four
- 55:10Speaker 1: of them. But you know, the guys that weren't here, Uh,
- 55:12Speaker 1: see them participate, see how good they are, see them grow.
- 55:16Speaker 1: But yeah, there's a big time excitement around Fatteville and
- 55:20Speaker 1: certainly in our building and through our players about you know,
- 55:24Speaker 1: the season. I'm not gonna ask you to name anybody,
- 55:26Speaker 1: but it's always coming out of high school into college. Heck,
- 55:29Speaker 1: just as a student, it's overwhelming much less you're seventeen
- 55:34Speaker 1: than you go eighteen years old and now you're you know,
- 55:36Speaker 1: competing for a spot against year olds. Any of these
- 55:40Speaker 1: freshmen in your time that come in, they're very had
- 55:43Speaker 1: heralded and they get there and they're like, I don't
- 55:45Speaker 1: know what's happening. Like these guys are all bigger and faster. Yeah,
- 55:49Speaker 1: it happens all the time. But you know, you can
- 55:51Speaker 1: wear yourself out anxiety wise. The first day we went
- 55:54Speaker 1: out to practice, there's a hundred fifteen heatd index. It's
- 55:58Speaker 1: a hot out there. But you combine that with a
- 56:02Speaker 1: new guy that has anxiety, Uh, they're all over the place.
- 56:06Speaker 1: The next day it was one twelve heat into x
- 56:09Speaker 1: but they were much better. Uh, you know, so anxiety.
- 56:12Speaker 1: That's a little bit Bobby about going over into the
- 56:15Speaker 1: stadium on a Saturday. You're gonna have a lot of
- 56:18Speaker 1: anxiety if you're not prepared or you don't know. Uh.
- 56:23Speaker 1: If you are prepared and you know and and you've
- 56:26Speaker 1: taken the I hope we win to I know we're
- 56:29Speaker 1: gonna win because I'm prepared in this. I think you
- 56:32Speaker 1: play a lot better. So these kids that come in,
- 56:34Speaker 1: we didn't put a whole lot of value into day one, uh,
- 56:38Speaker 1: Day two, a little bit more, Day three, and of
- 56:40Speaker 1: course the day will be our fourth practice. If a
- 56:43Speaker 1: hundred four star freshman come in, let's play with me here,
- 56:46Speaker 1: a hundred four star freshman come in, how many of
- 56:48Speaker 1: them will actually have the one be physically and mentally
- 56:52Speaker 1: ready to play game one in our league? Ten? Maybe
- 56:57Speaker 1: you know, maybe maybe fifteen, not not more than that.
- 57:00Speaker 1: I wouldn't think now play play start play probably ten
- 57:05Speaker 1: play play probably uh you know, some type of special
- 57:09Speaker 1: team or something like that, maybe thirty five or forty.
- 57:13Speaker 1: In your history of coaching, and it could be at
- 57:15Speaker 1: any level. Can you remember a freshman that came in
- 57:18Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, this guy's immediately ready to play,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and then he immediately played and was awesome. Andrew Thomas.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Andrew Thomas was a tackle out of Georgia who I
- 57:28Speaker 1: knew he was going to start in our top five
- 57:31Speaker 1: fast early. Um, not necessarily office high school take Bobby,
- 57:35Speaker 1: but when he got to campus, Uh, he started at
- 57:38Speaker 1: right tackle, first game of the year, played three years,
- 57:42Speaker 1: fourth pick in the draft. Yeah, that one. I that
- 57:45Speaker 1: when I knew. What is the coolest thing about being
- 57:48Speaker 1: a D one coach? That a head coach that you
- 57:51Speaker 1: did not know meaning you've coached a lot of places
- 57:54Speaker 1: for a lot of time and done a lot of
- 57:55Speaker 1: great things, but you still didn't know blank Whenever you
- 57:58Speaker 1: became the head coach. Andy Reckon saw how awesome going
- 58:02Speaker 1: into the locker room is after you beat somebody that named,
- 58:06Speaker 1: somebody's got a name, somebody's got a good football team.
- 58:09Speaker 1: How many employees that there is in the building. You
- 58:12Speaker 1: know that those things were surprising to me. But the
- 58:16Speaker 1: awesome part of it was going in and seeing the
- 58:18Speaker 1: kid's face after you win a big game. It's incredible, priceless,
- 58:22Speaker 1: can put a value on it, It's really cool. So
- 58:25Speaker 1: for me, as I was, you know, rising up whatever ranks,
- 58:29Speaker 1: I started to learn that the higher I got, it
- 58:31Speaker 1: really was I wasn't doing all the little things as much.
- 58:33Speaker 1: I was kind of uh doing big things and watching
- 58:37Speaker 1: over people that I trusted to do the little things, um,
- 58:41Speaker 1: not less important things, but just more of the things.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Was that an adjustment for you being the head coach
- 58:47Speaker 1: is not being so super involved daily in schemes and
- 58:51Speaker 1: game plans. I trade our coach is exactly like I
- 58:54Speaker 1: wanted to be treated as an assistant. You know, I've
- 58:57Speaker 1: got a title. When I was assisted, I wanted to,
- 59:01Speaker 1: uh make sure that I did what I was supposed
- 59:04Speaker 1: to do. I wanted to coach to think I was
- 59:05Speaker 1: the best coach, best recruiter on his staff, most loyal guy.
- 59:09Speaker 1: So I treat those guys like that until you know
- 59:12Speaker 1: possible they give me a reason not to. But I
- 59:16Speaker 1: loved my staff. I've got a really good staff, and
- 59:19Speaker 1: and I I visit with him. You know, you can
- 59:23Speaker 1: really have anxiety over if somebody doesn't talk to you.
- 59:28Speaker 1: You know, uh, well, what's he think of me? Am
- 59:30Speaker 1: I doing a good job. I let him know. Uh.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Visit with the guys all the time. I want them
- 59:35Speaker 1: to be as comfortable as they possibly can be, because
- 59:38Speaker 1: I want them to to coach out of confidence and
- 59:42Speaker 1: not out of nervousness, if that makes sense. When you
- 59:45Speaker 1: go into a season like this season, where you've had
- 59:48Speaker 1: two seasons in a row where you know there's been
- 59:51Speaker 1: a different feeling about the team, obviously you're one. You're
- 59:54Speaker 1: the first time head coach. Not a lot of expectation. Um,
- 59:58Speaker 1: and you know it was a weirder year anyway with
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: with COVID and last year, Uh, we overperformed a lot
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: of folks expectation. Now here we are, we're going into
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: it again and there are now real expectations put on you,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: put on the razorbacks, put on the state of Arkansas.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Like do you still have to find like dig through
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: and find somebody disrespecting you to go look at this
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: they still don't think or do you just reposition on
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: how to motivate these kids? Well, you know our expectations
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: and I'm not lying here, not stretching the truth at all.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Our expectations have been high ever since we walked in
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: the building. I mean they really had. And uh so
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that that's been a big deal for us. Uh. If
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: I see, Bobby, honestly, if I see uh ranking that
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: has us ranked fifteen and one that has us not ranked,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk to the team about the not ranked point.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not I am I'm I We're underdog,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: you know, a blue chip, hard working group of guys,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: and I want to I'm gonna find every reason for
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: us to stay that way in the public eye and
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: and until I guess until you've got ranked number one,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you know, you you would have that ability to put
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: a chip on the guy's shoulder, and that's that's I
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: like to do that. I think that's who we are
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: and we thrive on that. Has fame been weird for you? Yeah?
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: It really as I get um um um. A lot
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: of times you may or may not feel the same way.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: But a lot of times people come up they want
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: to touch you, autograph pictures, whatever that is, and I'm
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: almost every time I'm going, I wonder why they want
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: to do that, you know. But I also know that
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: when I want to meet somebody that I either walk
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: away going, man, that guy's a jerk, or man that
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: he's really what I thought he would be. And I
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: always wanted to walk away from me with the feeling that, hey,
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: this is what who I thought this guy would be.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: I mean, in Arkansas, you are wildly famous because the
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: team is in an upper trajectory and we feel like
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: that's gonna happen for a long time. Obviously, we love
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: you very much, um. But with that, there is everybody
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: watching you everywhere you go. Now, what's cool about the
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: level of fame that you have at least I think
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: is you could probably go to uh San Diego and
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: everybody's pretty chill, and you get to live more of
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: a normal vacation life, if because nobody's hassling Coach Pittman
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: from the razorback. Is that true? Yeah, that's true. I mean, um,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: here in the state though, you know, I have a
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: home on Lake Hamilton's and I can get away somewhat,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: but not not much. Of course, when we put the
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: hall out there on the lake kind of told where
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: we lived, you know. But um, I'm very very grateful
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: for that, I really am. I never get discouraged or
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: frustrated with people coming up and saying hello, because I'm
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: very honored that they want to meet me or be
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: around me or whatever that case. Maybe how often do
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: you eat then you find out someone's already paid your tab? Man,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: It's happened quite a bit, you know, I mean it
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: really has. And and some people aren't even at the
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: restaurant that you know, somebody will call and say, Coach Pittman,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Jamie's here and there. They hadn't even been at the restaurant.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: They paid for it, which, by the way, is awesome.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: Which other head coach in the SEC, would you say,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: as your your BFF, if you had to pick one,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: Kirby Kirby Smart, you know, that's that's the guy that
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: has really taught me a lot when I was there.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: He's little to me as I am him, but he's
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: a guy that that would be my my friend, my
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: best friend in in coaching, is there a text thread
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: of like the cool SEC coaches and leave a couple
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: of guys out that's what I do. That's so awesome,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: you know you probably you know, hopefully I'm not the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: one they want to leave out of it, but uh yeah,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: that is awesome. There there are days when you know,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: if you had that text fread though, you'd add a
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: guy back into, take another guy, add this guy, take
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: another guy out. But uh no, there's not one of those.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: But certainly I think everybody at some point in time
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: would take a guy out and leave him out for
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: a while. Is it true that if your buddies with somebody,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: and I'm sure you have a lot of let a
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: peer coaches in the SEC, that you guys will not
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: communicate the week over the week before if you're playing
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: each other or or you find either way there's a
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: lot of truth to that. You know, Um, you know
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: Meil Tucker was at at Georgia, Shane was at Georgia. Um,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Dan Lanning was at Georgia. You know, I think if
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: we played, of course we play shipped Beemer's team to
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: South Carolina. But I don't think it makes a whole
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: lot of difference. Uh. You know what, it depends on
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: how close you are. If you're real close to him,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: you probably don't mind talking to him. If you send
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: me close to him, then you probably you probably won't
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: talk to him the week of the game. Have you
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: ever played Madden? Because I wonder if you played Madden,
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: and let's that you didn't actually use the controller, but
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: you just like someone played for you, but you told
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: him what plays the call, what defense is to run.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Do you think you can watch somebody play Madden and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: dominate them just based off of what you do as
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: a head coach? No? I mean, now, Barry Might and
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Kendall Might. It's got Fountain Might on the punt when
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: they need the punt. But I wouldn't know. If it
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: was coaching old line, I'd probably okay and all that,
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: but no, I wouldn't be able to do that that
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: would be the worst video game ever coaching old line.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: I don't think, man, that it wouldn't sell. Many would have.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: How often are the state troopers with you when you're
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: traveling around the state. Is that just game day or
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: is that all the time? Well, they take me to
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: the catfish hole on Wednesday nights, and uh, I don't
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: know why there's it's not dangerous as the catfish old
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I can promise you. Uh. But then there with me
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: on Friday and all through all through until we get
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: back home after the game more uh, you know, traveling
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: back on a road game. So I've I've met your
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: lovely wife a couple of times and thank you, and
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: you've met my wife and you know at yeah, yeah
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: you did, thank you, thank you. I take that a compliment,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: thank you. It's okay. Um. So I guess my with
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: my wife, I am constantly trying to make sure and
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: I do not do a good job of it of
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: having balance, meaning I have to remember to try to
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: foe even though she's so supportive. I have to remember
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: to focus and make sure that I'm not just using
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: my my opic view of only my life and my careers.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: When it's football season, is there a different understanding in
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: your relationship. Yeah, it has been for thirty six years.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: The only thing. But what I've done for a long
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: long time is Jamie and I going to date night
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: every Thursday during the season, and we kind of look
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: forward to that now because since I've gotten a head
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: coaching job, Wednesday night is all so she goes with
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: me to the Catfish Hole. But Thursday night we do something.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: It may be at home, but it's it's considered a
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: day night, or maybe we get a private room somewhere
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: and go go out on Thursday night. But um, I
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: try to include her and as much as I possibly
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: can because she's so important to me. But she's also
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: important to how I feel and my daily you know,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: the way I walk and talking things of that nature.
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: She helps him with all that has for thirty six years.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I hope I'm good at I'm conscious to be good
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: at that coach. Final four questions I have here for you,
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: and I'm gonna start with the n I l um,
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: do you feel like it's advantageous to you that you
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: started to be a head coach right as this was happening,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: and you weren't someone who's been head coaching that had
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: to completely adjust whenever, like being born at the same
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: time this was born. Do you feel like that was
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: good for you. I don't think it hurt me. You know,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: you know change. Guys have been doing something and you
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: just said it basically, guys have been doing something for
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: a long time. You know, you either fight change or
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: you go with change and try to find out how
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: you can make it to your advantage. I'm a guy
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: that when change happens, I'm trying to make an advantage
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: out of it and not be grapping about the change.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: It might be harder if I was a head coach
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: for twenty years and I liked what I had, But um,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: right now, the rules a rule, and then you try
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: to go see how it can be advantageous to your program.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: And that's how I feel about it. Do you feel
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: like players are acting different because the n I l
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: I think they're thinking different. Um, I don't know acting,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: but they are thinking different because you know, recruiting and
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: also your own team. Uh, you have a lot more
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: conversations about the name image lightness than the math class
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: or the you know, you miss study table, things of
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: that nature. They want to talk about N I l
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: and I want to talk about graduation more. Let's talk
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: about parents. Um. And right, you're talking about graduation. I'm
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: sure that's a big part in ruting. We're talking to
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the parents of the grandparents or whomever the central figures are. Um.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I get a lot of parents that asked me like, Hey,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: I got a kid that's really good at football. How
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: do I get a coach to see a tape if
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: they can't get to a camp or they can't get
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: to some of the things like how does someone highlight
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: their kid if they think their kid is really good? Well,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: first of all, I think that's the head coaches job,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: you know, their school. Uh. The other thing, there's not
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: a social media how about that that's the answer. Get
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: it out on Twitter, get it out on the Instagram, TikTok,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: whatever it may be. Um. But for right now, with
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: huddle the way it is and our coaches being able
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: to go out twice in the spring, Uh, you know,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: there's not many unturned stones in recruiting. But how they
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: can do that is if they can't get to camp
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: is get tape and have have the coach promote them
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: and have themselves promote them on on Twitter, on on
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: social media. Yeah, I feel like I usually missed there.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I didn't get to the camps, so I feel like
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I was really just kind of That's why it happened.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: And what social media was that's right now barely my space,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: you know? Do it off that? All right? Two final
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: questions for you? Uh, favorite TV show, movie and song
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: ever in your whole life? You got movie? TV show
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: forst gun would be movie? Uh? Uh what? What? What
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: was TV TV show ever? Oh? Man Gilligan's Island loved
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Merryan and and uh I figured in the skipper. Really
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I like Gilligan. I kept thinking he's going to get
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: off the island too, man. They never did. And then, Uh,
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: favorite song I'm gonna go currently, I like country on
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Uh Brian by look Brian right now. I mean I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: like it. It's got a lot of good cool meaning
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: to it. Hit one wants to hit you in the heart.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I like those kind of stungs. All right. Last one
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: for your coach. I appreciate your time, but my wife
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: being from Oklahoma, we we just spent the last four
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: days over in Oklahoma and your Tulsa and um so,
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: I I never liked the Sooners, but I'm having to
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: adjust to not hating the Sooners, and that is an adjustment. Um.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: And so I am actually very excited about them being
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: in the conference because that's just more games that I
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: get to go to. So I is when they're probably in?
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Do you I'm I'm not gonna ask you to speculate
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: a year or anything, but do you think it'll be
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: sooner than that? Right now we're told, Bobby, they'll come in. Um.
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Do I think there's a possibility of it? Yes? I do, UM,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: But right now, I think the SEC is pretty steadfast
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: at you know, financially. Um. You know, they're gonna be
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: a big pay buy out by Texas and Oklahoma and
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I'm assuming if they're willing to do that, and then
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: it might uh speed up a little bit. But right
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: now we're told, coach, love you good luck. Uh. You know,
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: this is a national show, so I'm not supposed to
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: be biased, but I'm the most biased person in my
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: whole life. I've at Arkansas helmet on my desk here.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: I mean that's on camera. So uh, let's get them.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: I'll see you soon. And thanks for your time, Coach
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: go Hog. Appreciate the interview, Bobby, thanks you for your
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: time go up? All right, ending thoughts? Everybody has one
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: sports taken o't how trivial it is. Is your chance
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: to say your opinion and funny, predictive, serious, It doesn't
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: have to be long. Um, we'll start with Adam Hambrick,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Adam of the new guy here to the room. What
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: is your ending thoughts? Oh man, it lots being made
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: on this coaches poll right now? And h is the
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: SEC having a down year? I'm gonna go with no.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: Why what's being made of the coaches pool? Uh? There's
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: only five SEC teams ranked in the coaches poll, and
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I think that's you know, that's a opportunity for a
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: lot of conferences, say the SEC is not as good either,
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: they're not gonna be as good. Um, a couple first
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: year head coaches and all that stuff. Um, but what
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: I think people are missing is like there might be
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: a first year head coach at Florida, Um, but Florida
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: is still Florida is still gonna be loaded with talent. Uh.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: Tennessee has a has a fantastic quarterback, hen and Hooker,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: UM and L s U like L s US have
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Brian Kelly and they all they always have talent. They
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: probably will. I mean, they haven't went six and six
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: this first year. Bryan Kelly is a great coach. This
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: year they'll suck. But but there's still when you have
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: athletes on the field, like you never know what's gonna
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: happen in a given a weekend. I think they're all
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: those question marks and there's still all the talent l
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: s U are in Florida and these other teams that
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: aren't in the poll, Like, there's still gonna be opportunity
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: for a lot of chaos and a lot of like, uh,
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: you know, these teams are still gonna have high ceilings
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: that maybe they could maybe they could reach, but they're
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: also be probably inconsistent all that stuff. But I think
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: everything outside of Alabama and Georgia, obviously, everything is gonna
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: be competitive every week in a gonna be a really
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: fun year to watch. And then you have teams like
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: my Razorbacks coming on. Uh, they're gonna be tough, hard nosed,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: blue collar kind of teams. You got old miss Who's
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: gonna they're gonna win football games. Kentucky's gonna win football
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: games in South Carolina coming on, all that way below
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Alabama and Georgia all the way down to maybe Vanderbilt
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: in a Missouri. That middle is gonna be a really tough,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: tough road to home this year. I think it's gonna
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: be as tough as it always is. So no, I
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: don't think it's gonna be a down here in the SEC.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I think Kentucky can beat Georgia. I think they. I
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: think they can. I don't think they wouldn't, But I
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: think Kentucky can beat Georgia. I think Tennessee could possibly
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: if the whole freaking world turns exactly right, they'd have
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a shot at it. But I think that's a bit
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: of an unfair headline. When I saw an article too,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: like I see down only five teams like teamine all
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I SEC teams like a vote votes getting um so
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: uh and Christmas comes slow for kids, water is wet
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: and the SCS overrated that no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: what what universal truths that people say yes not Uh,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: let's go to Eddie. Give me your ending thought or
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: you're not gonna like this. And especially since two people
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: picked the Bucks to win the whole thing this year,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: Look the Bucks. This is and I'm not being funny.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: The Bucks will start this season, oh and four, and
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: it's gonna shock the world. There's oh my gosh, tom
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Brady are their first four games, their first four games
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: to start with the Cowboys. That's that's the lost is
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: an automatical and a shocker. They're gonna play the Saints.
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: They're gonna lose that one too, and then they go.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I think they have a better shot to lose that
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: one though than the first. I think because the Saints
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: have owned them the last couple of years. Too stupid, stupid,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: you don't blow it all stupid takes go ahead, and
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: then week three they play the Packers, will lose that
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: week before they play the Chiefs. I'm telling you, Owen four,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: their first win will be against the Falcons, and it's
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: gonna have the NFL going, oh my gosh, what's going
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: on with Tom Brady? This is crazy. I can see
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: one in three, probably probably for asking me too into
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: I ain't Green Bay is gonna be interesting to Seattle.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Zard's the number one ride receiver that they hope he is.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I think to see who the guy in Kansas City is.
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: It's gonna catch balls on the outside from the homes.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Is gonna be fine. Somebody. It's gonna be somebody. My
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: homes is too good for their not to be somebody.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: It's like when Peyton Manning, it didn't matter who. It
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: didn't matter if it was Eric Decker, it didn't matter.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Peyton Manning made somebody a fantasy star because he just
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: had some UM. So that would be interesting. But I
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: think they could be two and two or three and one. Yeah.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: I mean, I like how you're certain that they will us.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: I'm not starting anything something. Uh, let's go to kick off, Kevin,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: your final ending thought, kickoff, Kevin. Alright. Clemson had what
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: people called a down year last year. They still went
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: ten and three. UM quarterback dj ui Ungo Leile. I'm
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: pretty sure I said that right, and you killed that.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: That wasn't bad. Yeah, and uh, he was one of
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: the favorites coming in to win the Heisman. He had
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: a down year as well. I think had ten interceptions
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: and only nine touchdowns. But I think they bounced back
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: this year because a CEC is getting pretty weak, especially
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: with Sam Hartman up for weak four is and I
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: say he is the best sleeper bet for your money.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: He's at plus right now. Wow, So if you put
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: your mind I actually put twenty bucks on him this morning.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: That'll pay me nine hundred if you win, so do
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: it for me. That's interesting about Clemson because yes, everyway
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: says they had a bad year down here, but they
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: lost them early, but they were over in everybody's mind.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: They really played well for most of the year after that,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: they did have a down hear Clemson standards. Also, they're
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: not gonna they don't mess with the n I l Really,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: that's a weird thing. They're not big, they don't do
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: it at all. Yeah, they're just like they're probably who knows,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: but I think I think that's actually a great pick
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: on that. Plus, yeah, I mean that's he's rich. Those tattoos, Mike,
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: what you got? Final one? I think the fate of
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: the Razorbacks depends on what you do with the stuff
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: you got from the estates, meaning that if you take
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: it and actually do something with it, they'll be great.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: If not, it's gonna be a bad season. They're all
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: gonna sit in your room, right What about to do?
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: Why did you buy it? I'm not gonna do anything
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: with it. I don't anybody else to have it. I
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: wanted to I wanted to be taking care of very much.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: So all right, uh, and then my final take is
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: going to be I think that if Old Miss finish
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: his second in the West, and I hate to say that,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: I think Lane Kiffin is a real candidate for Coach
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: of the Year because the media loves them, and if
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Old Miss can be competitive with Alabama, I don't think
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: they'll win the West. But if Old Miss, I think
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin has a real shot because of their fat
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: infatuation with him, and he's on TikTok. Now he's kind
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: of killing on TikTok a little bit, he is. I
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: think that all kind of plays into it. I think
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin doesn't happen with the national championship, but if
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: he can win ten games, he could be the coach
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: of the Year this year. Um, so we're gonna end
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: this show. But before we do the whistle we I
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: wanted to end on skinners simple man, just because I
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: like that intro. We can't because lightness and issues, but
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: might count a version called what Mike complicated dude. It
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: sounds kind of like it, but not really do we
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: have access to it? You know, it's sounds like a a
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: complicated dude. Okay, here we go. This is what when
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: I do my final thing here, Mike's gonna play complicated
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: dude from now on. Go ahead, it does sound good? Yeah, yeah, hey, thanks.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: This is our first episode. The credits will come up
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: in a second, and usually I'll do my ending thought
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: over this. But I know, I get to choose we
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: had the best show, the first first day, best show,
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: and they get to blow the whistle and that'll be
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: the first whistle out. Um, Mike didn't have a mascot.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Is a tough game to play, so he's on a stretch,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: so he's out. Uh, Kevin, solid job today. You still end? Thanks.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I kind of kicked out him out of a segments
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: got a little too Arkansas way, So sometimes things happen.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: It's Adam, you're gonna be eliminated from this, uh, Eddie, Yeah,
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: you're looking at great. Great by the way, go listen
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: to the Sore Losers on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays on
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: they're on the Nashville podcast Snetwork with us. They're like
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: our cousins, except it's like a crossover episode. You're like
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: Arkle on full House. Eddie. Yeah, I just pop in sometimes.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Yeah full House. Yeah, pretty good. Episode, Eddie also setting
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: up the studio for the first thank you. I'm getting
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: my whistle ready. Yeah, but in the end, I give
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: it to me. I performed the best. Yeah yeah, I'll
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: tell you what. We'll put it to a vote between
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: three that didn't win. Mike wa is it Eddie or Kevin.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: I'm going with Eddie, Adam, I'm gonna go Kevin. I'm
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: gonna go with Kevin too. First time on Kevin's be
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: a big part of this show. This is our first
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: whistle twenty four more to go, Kevin. You blow the
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: whistle and we're out of here. Another Cowboys Lost for
