- 0:48Speaker 1: trophy that I have in my trophy case. So it's
- 0:51Speaker 1: all about it's easy. Okay. Well, we're gonna read off
- 0:55Speaker 1: your h your accolades. We got three times I'm NBA Champion,
- 1:02Speaker 1: we got NBA Finals MVP, dang thirteen time NBA All Star,
- 1:09Speaker 1: NBA All Star Game MVP, two time Gold Medalists. I
- 1:13Speaker 1: was there for both of those. Kind of dope and
- 1:18Speaker 1: also People magazine list of most beautiful people. We share,
- 1:23Speaker 1: we share, we share that we share that. All right.
- 1:28Speaker 1: This is our first male This is our first male
- 1:32Speaker 1: athlete on the trophy room.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Talk to me, talk to me.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I mean he's he should be. He's our first male
- 1:38Speaker 1: athlete on the trophy room. This is Dwayne Wade.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Welcome all right. So number three is close to my heart.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It's my jersey number and I have a special share
- 1:52Speaker 1: jersey number two. So see the jersey in the front.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I appreciate it, but I had to rock the robins
- 1:58Speaker 1: Illinois native Miami heat.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's nice, right, It really brings out the highlights in
- 2:05Speaker 2: your in your cheek bone.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You were wondering why I decided to go with the
- 2:08Speaker 1: red shoes. But anyway, three different teams, big three food, wine, sports.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I've got three kids, so three holds a very special
- 2:18Speaker 1: place in my heart. And I've got three things that
- 2:20Speaker 1: I would like to ask you about. All right. So
- 2:23Speaker 1: you are a big golfer. You're a big golfer. I'm
- 2:27Speaker 1: out there, Yeah, you are a big golfer. I witnessed
- 2:31Speaker 1: you swinging in the studio, just air swinging. So hitting
- 2:37Speaker 1: a game winner or your viral hole in one?
- 2:43Speaker 2: What kind of game? What are we talking about? Were
- 2:45Speaker 2: talking about a regular game winning Soccramento on a Tuesday,
- 2:48Speaker 2: or we just.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Dropping talking about some better feeling.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It was like it was like the same feeling like
- 3:02Speaker 2: hitting that holding one at pebble was like, I feel
- 3:05Speaker 2: like I just want a championship with the.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Game winning you ran around like you did.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with holding one.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Okay, okay, because it's not what I meant. I tried
- 3:14Speaker 1: to recreate your jump on the scores table. I think
- 3:16Speaker 1: all of us did, Kobe, Michael, you think of that,
- 3:19Speaker 1: and I did that in Chicago. So i'll give you that.
- 3:22Speaker 1: If it's a regular game winner, then no, right, So
- 3:26Speaker 1: like a playoff game winner, yeah, okay, I'll give you that.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Fashion is a huge part of who you are, and
- 3:32Speaker 1: you've been a part of pioneering the movement men wearing caprice.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Can you give us a little bit of the men
- 3:42Speaker 1: wearing caprice story? I heard a brief story about it,
- 3:45Speaker 1: but I just I couldn't believe it. We needed to
- 3:49Speaker 1: bring it back.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Well, that's yes, that's one of the things that I'm
- 3:52Speaker 2: so proud of that I'm a part of me and
- 3:55Speaker 2: winning caprice. I'm so proud of that. It was not
- 3:58Speaker 2: on purpose I had. I was back in Chicago. You know,
- 4:02Speaker 2: when we go back to our home hometown, we got
- 4:04Speaker 2: to we like to dress a certain way, we got
- 4:06Speaker 2: to look a certain way. So I had like a
- 4:08Speaker 2: certain like this Gucci suit that I was like, Yeah,
- 4:10Speaker 2: this is this one. That's what I'm gonna hit him with. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: go Chi look like go Chi. I was like, yeah,
- 4:16Speaker 2: I'm about hit him with this one. This is the one.
- 4:18Speaker 2: And then it came to the crib. I was about
- 4:20Speaker 2: to get dressed, and them joints. It was like this
- 4:22Speaker 2: big and I was like, what do I do? Do
- 4:25Speaker 2: I walk in with a sweatsuit, a tech suit or
- 4:28Speaker 2: do I still rock this suit?
- 4:30Speaker 1: And you just did it?
- 4:31Speaker 2: And I was just like, you know what, I got
- 4:33Speaker 2: the confidence, so I'm about to rock. It was.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The most beautiful people.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Oh this is way after I got that long time.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That long time.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It was the swag from that.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I got the most beautifl people. But I knew the
- 4:49Speaker 2: game was on T n T and I knew that
- 4:51Speaker 2: the guys in the studio was about to have a
- 4:53Speaker 2: field day. And I'm in, I'm in. I'm into the jokes,
- 4:57Speaker 2: like I don't mind jokes, and so I was like,
- 4:59Speaker 2: you know what, let me give them something else to
- 5:01Speaker 2: talk about as well. And so yeah, I walked there
- 5:04Speaker 2: with my capris.
- 5:04Speaker 1: On loud and proud.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Wow hit them ankles. I was good.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Okay, real quick. I know this is adding to the
- 5:13Speaker 1: three that I was supposed to do, but this is
- 5:14Speaker 1: kind of like a b of that. Uh, you're no
- 5:18Speaker 1: shirt because I mean you you never have no keep
- 5:22Speaker 1: it on, keep your shirt on, keep the buttons closed.
- 5:25Speaker 1: But what is it with you just taking your shirt
- 5:27Speaker 1: off like you just because I was I was at
- 5:30Speaker 1: your party last year? Me and Love were like, where
- 5:33Speaker 1: is the wade? Oh the dude in the middle of
- 5:36Speaker 1: the dance floor with no shirt? So where you.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Just want to no shirt on?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Okay, that's what we're gonna go with.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I feel freer when I ain't got no shirt on,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Thank you, We're gonna see me.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Do not egg him on, does not need anymore.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I feel free with no shirt on, you know what
- 5:53Speaker 2: I mean? Like right now, but I'll be more comfortable.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Okay, we're good, We're good. Okay. Do you want AT
- 6:00Speaker 1: and T to say our sponsor? Okay, your nickname is
- 6:04Speaker 1: the Flash given to you by the big Diesel shack
- 6:07Speaker 1: fellow self, Yes, yes, yes, So I want you to
- 6:10Speaker 1: just first thing that comes to your mind, nickname somebody?
- 6:13Speaker 1: Obviously Lebron's King James, but do you have another nickname
- 6:16Speaker 1: for him?
- 6:17Speaker 2: What do you mean for who?
- 6:18Speaker 1: For Lebron?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Six?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Okay six? What about Shaq instead of Diesel or Superman
- 6:24Speaker 1: or him?
- 6:25Speaker 2: Big fellow?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Okay, big fella?
- 6:26Speaker 2: What about Chris bosh CB Okay?
- 6:29Speaker 1: That was I think we need to we need to
- 6:32Speaker 1: get better with that one. Jimmy Butler, twenty one savage, uh,
- 6:41Speaker 1: Cannae Parker, Nicolas.
- 6:44Speaker 2: The goat, my goat. Well, let's sister, all the things,
- 6:49Speaker 2: all that, anyone text me back though, I get it.
- 6:53Speaker 1: This dude is act up here, acting different. This is wild. Okay.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I want to get into your Heat culture because we
- 7:01Speaker 1: always hear about the Miami Heat and I want to
- 7:05Speaker 1: get into that Miami Heat journey because it was a
- 7:07Speaker 1: really unique one coming into two thousand and three. You
- 7:10Speaker 1: were drafted to the Heat organization during that draft. I
- 7:16Speaker 1: know how I would do it if I were to
- 7:19Speaker 1: draft that draft, because I was actually surprised that you
- 7:22Speaker 1: fell to Miami. To me, if I were to redraft
- 7:25Speaker 1: and mind you for those that know Lebron, Mellow, Bosh
- 7:30Speaker 1: Wade all in the same draft, all lottery, Darko militic.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But we'll leave that. We'll leave that.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Alone because he fight Darko fighting. We leave that alone
- 7:43Speaker 2: is fighting.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I would have put you at number two to Detroit.
- 7:47Speaker 1: How do you think that that journey would have looked
- 7:49Speaker 1: different for you?
- 7:52Speaker 2: Well, I would My career would have probably started a
- 7:55Speaker 2: little later. They had. They had a lot of veterans
- 7:59Speaker 2: on that team, team that was ready made for a championship.
- 8:03Speaker 2: When did they win a championship that I think they
- 8:05Speaker 2: won a championship our rookie year four. Yeah, they run
- 8:07Speaker 2: a championship our rookie year, So I would have had
- 8:11Speaker 2: to wait. I think the thing about miamis we sucked
- 8:13Speaker 2: when I got there, so I was like, hey, get
- 8:15Speaker 2: his young kid the ball. So but I would have
- 8:17Speaker 2: learned a lot, probably more about the NBA game and
- 8:22Speaker 2: like what to do off the court, what to do
- 8:24Speaker 2: when it come to taking care of my body. All
- 8:26Speaker 2: these things been around Chauncey and Rip and you know
- 8:30Speaker 2: the guys they had there, so different paths, but I
- 8:33Speaker 2: think it all would have ended the same way.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Do you think your style would have been the same
- 8:37Speaker 1: not being in Miami versus being into trade.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like I'm from the shy Okay, just
- 8:42Speaker 2: wondering to the rack.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Well, something happened in two thousand and four that shocked
- 8:47Speaker 1: the NBA, much like a trade that recently occurred that
- 8:52Speaker 1: shocked the world. Shaquille O'Neal was leaving the Lakers and
- 8:57Speaker 1: was traded to Miami, and he specifically said he wanted
- 9:01Speaker 1: to play with you. What did that feel like to
- 9:05Speaker 1: be a young player to have a I mean, perennial
- 9:09Speaker 1: All star, one of the all time greats that wants
- 9:11Speaker 1: to play with you. How was that? What emotions did
- 9:14Speaker 1: you go through? And also like the balance of hey,
- 9:18Speaker 1: this has been my team, how do we fit together?
- 9:22Speaker 2: Well? Pressure, that's what came with Shack because big fellow
- 9:28Speaker 2: was he he was obviously dominant for so many years.
- 9:31Speaker 2: I think they had just came off of multiple final
- 9:34Speaker 2: appearances in LA and championships, championships, just lost.
- 9:39Speaker 1: To Detroit Assistance the year before before, not have a
- 9:42Speaker 1: fourth peat boom.
- 9:43Speaker 2: So now he gets traded in Miami. You know he
- 9:45Speaker 2: mad obviously right. It's been some beef. Right, we heard
- 9:50Speaker 2: about the beef. So but he comes there and I'm like,
- 9:52Speaker 2: I'm coming off my first year, just happy to be
- 9:54Speaker 2: in the NBA. My jersey is not even in the
- 9:57Speaker 2: malls yet, Like, no one knows me like that. They
- 10:00Speaker 2: didn't have this, they didn't have that in the malls
- 10:02Speaker 2: in Miami.
- 10:03Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I used to go all the time, I know. So
- 10:07Speaker 2: I felt a little pressure right away, right because, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I was playing with one of the most dominant players
- 10:13Speaker 2: ever played and I've never played with a player like that,
- 10:16Speaker 2: and I love my college teammates, but no one was
- 10:18Speaker 2: shack and so that was the first indus reaction. But
- 10:22Speaker 2: then after that I turned pressure into opportunity. I was like, man,
- 10:25Speaker 2: this is what I've been waiting for. This is actually
- 10:27Speaker 2: what I've been screaming to everybody and letting them know
- 10:29Speaker 2: that I'm actually good. Y'all just ain't seen me. And
- 10:31Speaker 2: I was like, oh, they're about to see now. And
- 10:33Speaker 2: so I turned that into like, this is an unbelievable opportunity.
- 10:36Speaker 2: And Shaq, to his credit, he was amazing with me
- 10:40Speaker 2: right away. He just kind of calmed me. He was like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna make you, I'm gonna help you. Become one
- 10:46Speaker 2: of the greatest players ever played. And when someone like
- 10:50Speaker 2: that sees that in you, all your chest has poked out.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, so you think I'm good? Yeah, you
- 10:56Speaker 2: just came from Kobe and Penny and like, I know
- 10:58Speaker 2: your rap sheet, and so he puts so much confidence
- 11:01Speaker 2: in me early that I was just like, all right, well,
- 11:04Speaker 2: let's go do this. This is my opportunity.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So with that being said, you go on and lead
- 11:10Speaker 1: your team to a championship with big fella, of course,
- 11:16Speaker 1: but you're the star in that. Being young, it was what.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Three years Yeah, I was twenty four.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Three years after being drafted in Miami, you win a championship.
- 11:30Speaker 1: What was that like? Because when you first got to
- 11:33Speaker 1: the organization, obviously you said it you guys sucked. That
- 11:39Speaker 1: was quick in terms of your turnaround, but also for
- 11:41Speaker 1: you to be at the lead at such a young
- 11:43Speaker 1: age and only three years experience in the league.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what, it was actually the easiest thing
- 11:48Speaker 2: for me to do. I had a lot of play
- 11:51Speaker 2: with Gary Payton, play with Antoine Walker. I played with
- 11:55Speaker 2: James Posey White Chocolate like we had a we Pat
- 12:00Speaker 2: made a thirteen player trade the year after we just
- 12:03Speaker 2: lost in Game seven of the East Commerce Finals. Thought
- 12:06Speaker 2: he was crazy, but he brought in veterans, he brought
- 12:09Speaker 2: in people that can come. I was, you know, I wasn't.
- 12:12Speaker 2: I was good, but it's a lot of things I
- 12:13Speaker 2: didn't know about the game of basketball, the NBA game,
- 12:16Speaker 2: and it was a lot of that was covered up
- 12:18Speaker 2: by these individuals. And so my job was to be
- 12:23Speaker 2: the young bull, like be what nobody else can be.
- 12:28Speaker 2: And they just relieved that. It was just so much
- 12:30Speaker 2: pressure taking away from me because when GP come in,
- 12:33Speaker 2: he checking other team's best player. Posey's guarding another team
- 12:35Speaker 2: best player. You know. So me and U D being
- 12:38Speaker 2: young guys, we just had to do what we do.
- 12:40Speaker 2: And when you just got to go do what you
- 12:41Speaker 2: do and you ain't got to think about it. Now
- 12:45Speaker 2: it's easy. And so Shaq he was still getting double teams,
- 12:48Speaker 2: so I wasn't really double team. I had like a
- 12:50Speaker 2: lot of single coverage and I just went to work, simple.
- 12:55Speaker 1: As that that that simple give me the ball.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He just it was They was like, yo, young fella,
- 13:01Speaker 2: is your team, Like we're gonna go as you take us.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And I was like, all right, well that's what I've
- 13:06Speaker 2: been waiting on and I got a lones of like,
- 13:08Speaker 2: look at my team. I got a lownes of money,
- 13:09Speaker 2: I got like, I got a squad to go out
- 13:12Speaker 2: here and try to win a championship.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But you're downplaying the trust because as Vets sometimes you
- 13:17Speaker 1: don't trust young players.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Oh definitely.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And I'll say this, and this was the difference in
- 13:22Speaker 1: Luca coming in the league. And I remember sitting in
- 13:23Speaker 1: the studio with you saying, there's a different there's a
- 13:27Speaker 1: different aura that a young player has when the Vets
- 13:31Speaker 1: trust that young player. And I think you were amongst
- 13:33Speaker 1: that and having veterans that trusted the ball in your
- 13:36Speaker 1: hands and your decision making. Before we go on to
- 13:41Speaker 1: your next championship with the heat, can you talk about
- 13:44Speaker 1: that spin move that you do that we've been trying.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I've been trying to recreate this in the studio. I'm like,
- 13:49Speaker 1: help me break this down. We got Chris Johnson trainer here.
- 13:54Speaker 1: He knows in many workouts, I'm like, okay, teach me
- 13:56Speaker 1: the d Wade footwork for the spin because it didn't
- 14:01Speaker 1: matter you guessed wrong if you were a defender. There
- 14:04Speaker 1: were so many times that I would tell my brother, listen,
- 14:07Speaker 1: d Wade is going to spin. Okay, he's gonna do it,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and then I would see him on Sports Center that
- 14:13Speaker 1: night on Top ten, d Wade was spinning dunk on somebody.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So anyway, I just want to know where that came from.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Well, one of my coldest spins was definitely on your brother.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It was it's still it's still in the family group chat,
- 14:26Speaker 1: it's still on the anniversary.
- 14:29Speaker 2: It just really came from understanding. I mean, a defender
- 14:34Speaker 2: cuts you off. So I was very fast, I was strong,
- 14:37Speaker 2: I had all the all those tubes, and so defender
- 14:40Speaker 2: trying to keep up with me being fast and being
- 14:42Speaker 2: strong and getting a step. My first step was really fast.
- 14:45Speaker 1: That's why you flash.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what they call me flash. And so knowing that,
- 14:50Speaker 2: knowing that you got to work so hard to catch
- 14:52Speaker 2: up with to me and I had great breaks at
- 14:54Speaker 2: the same time, and so I knew that once I
- 14:58Speaker 2: got a step on you and you were rushing to
- 15:00Speaker 2: get back in front. Now I got you. Now I
- 15:02Speaker 2: got you in this mixer, and so I'm really just
- 15:04Speaker 2: playing with you because actually I'll beat you already. But
- 15:08Speaker 2: let me just let me go with my MJ bag.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Let me go with my Kobe bag. Let me get
- 15:12Speaker 2: you on my back. And so I knew that the
- 15:15Speaker 2: defender maybe can cut me off, but he can't cut
- 15:20Speaker 2: me off and get to this move and get to
- 15:22Speaker 2: that movie. He can't do it all. And so you know,
- 15:24Speaker 2: my job was to make sure that I put so
- 15:26Speaker 2: much pressure on you to think I'm getting past you,
- 15:29Speaker 2: just to use your momentum and go the other way.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And so I know what I'm doing. You don't know,
- 15:34Speaker 2: and so your job is to go and stop. My
- 15:36Speaker 2: job is go stop and spend. So I already knew that,
- 15:38Speaker 2: and so I just I had so much fun doing it.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And I will read the body, and so as I'm spinning,
- 15:44Speaker 2: I'm seeing where your body is. If you're still over here,
- 15:46Speaker 2: that fade over there open, if you're trying to rush
- 15:49Speaker 2: back to get that way, I'm gonna hit back and
- 15:50Speaker 2: go back to the baseline. And so just body movement
- 15:54Speaker 2: was really important in my game. I don't think a
- 15:57Speaker 2: lot of people understand I watched the bottom moving a lot,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and that's how I made my counters.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Okay, we're gonna get in the gym later and discuss it.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I need to know.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Looking at me when I'll be talking like this, like
- 16:10Speaker 2: what are you talking to?
- 16:11Speaker 1: Person? When you get in there, he acts like it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: just so simple and so easy, like you got it, Like,
- 16:16Speaker 1: don't hype me up. I don't have it. I don't
- 16:18Speaker 1: know what you're talking about. I don't know the footword
- 16:20Speaker 1: to that. But let's get to let's get to the
- 16:23Speaker 1: Big Three era. Okay, And most of these questions, I
- 16:27Speaker 1: know you so well that I know some of these answers,
- 16:30Speaker 1: but this question I don't know the answer to. And
- 16:32Speaker 1: I and if any of you all do, please shout
- 16:36Speaker 1: me out. But when Lebron did his decision, Okay, I
- 16:41Speaker 1: remember watching earlier in the day yourself and Chris Bosh.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Basically you were re signing Chris Bosh announced he was
- 16:49Speaker 1: signing with the Heat. Did you know Lebron? Okay? But
- 16:53Speaker 1: I need the story because you were like a clear
- 16:56Speaker 1: actor in that you were like doing all that. I'm like,
- 16:59Speaker 1: this dude knows that Lebron is coming to the Heat,
- 17:03Speaker 1: So I need to know what went into that. How
- 17:05Speaker 1: did this come together? That's a that's a long, Well,
- 17:10Speaker 1: give me the short short.
- 17:12Speaker 2: When I knew, and then I'm gonna tell you why
- 17:14Speaker 2: I was acting. But I'm tell you why. So I
- 17:18Speaker 2: knew on July fourth, July fourth, after we went through
- 17:23Speaker 2: free agency and our private meetings and all the things
- 17:26Speaker 2: that we had to do to, you know, make sure
- 17:28Speaker 2: that we all was on the same page. July fourth,
- 17:31Speaker 2: we all got on the phone and we all decided
- 17:33Speaker 2: that are we gonna do this signing day at that time,
- 17:35Speaker 2: the first day you could sign with July seventh. So
- 17:38Speaker 2: Chris and I signed July seventh, and Lebron is going
- 17:41Speaker 2: to sign July eighth. So I know this. But while
- 17:46Speaker 2: I was a little shook because Lebron stopped answering his
- 17:48Speaker 2: phone after July fourth, then hear from the man, so
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know it, reaching out to him making sure we're
- 17:54Speaker 2: still good because I know that this.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Is a very so you dou did you triple text?
- 18:00Speaker 2: I was doing all I ain't want to be. I
- 18:01Speaker 2: don't want to do too much, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But I'm like, hey, we're still good. So me and
- 18:06Speaker 2: Chris was like, all right, we're just gonna go ahead
- 18:08Speaker 2: and we're gonna we're gonna play together even if Bron
- 18:10Speaker 2: don't come. We like we like this too, this too
- 18:13Speaker 2: man thing and so I didn't know if he was
- 18:16Speaker 2: gonna say he was bringing this town. He said, I'm
- 18:18Speaker 2: taking my time into South Beach. We don't even play
- 18:20Speaker 2: in South Beach, so I didn't know. It took me
- 18:23Speaker 2: a minute when he said that, I was like, where
- 18:25Speaker 2: he going? So Bron Yeah, he got quiet about four days.
- 18:30Speaker 2: I a little nervous.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Hemold you, so how early did you all start thinking
- 18:35Speaker 1: about coming together to play? Because I was at the
- 18:38Speaker 1: Olympics when there were rumblings and I was there. I
- 18:42Speaker 1: was there at the Olympics in eight when you know,
- 18:45Speaker 1: in twenty twelve and all of that, when well one
- 18:49Speaker 1: and O eight, Kobe kept planting seeds because you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: OKAC was going through their growth, and so Kobe was like,
- 18:55Speaker 1: you don't want to play with you know, Kobe being
- 18:57Speaker 1: the antagonist planting seeds with you know, James Harden and
- 19:01Speaker 1: Russ trying to get the competitive advantage. So I was
- 19:04Speaker 1: at the Olympics and I saw like you all hang
- 19:06Speaker 1: out and you know, we played cards and all that stuff,
- 19:09Speaker 1: and the conversations of what if When did it start
- 19:13Speaker 1: to really be like seriously a thought.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I don't remember exact time, but it wasn't in No. Eight.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It wasn't even it was a.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Summer twenty twelve.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Come on now, No, no, we played it. We signed.
- 19:31Speaker 1: And eight then yes, no, two thousand and eight. It
- 19:34Speaker 1: would have been the.
- 19:35Speaker 2: We didn't do it then, Okay, everybody, everybody keeps saying
- 19:38Speaker 2: we did. We did not have this conversation.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Two.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Why you don't want to believe me?
- 19:42Speaker 1: No, I just I don't think. I think it's almost
- 19:44Speaker 1: like you we passed the time that the NBA can
- 19:46Speaker 1: find us, so you can talk about this is a
- 19:49Speaker 1: safe space you talk about it.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I'm telling you my truth. I feel like I'm talking
- 19:53Speaker 2: to my wife right now. I'm telling you my truth.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Eight.
- 19:57Speaker 2: This is my truth.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Okay, I'll believe you.
- 19:59Speaker 2: We but the conversation the first time it happened that
- 20:03Speaker 2: it became like a real conversation. I remember getting a
- 20:06Speaker 2: call from Hank. I was in Chicago. I had a
- 20:09Speaker 2: house downtown in Chicago, and Hank was like, hey, come
- 20:12Speaker 2: to the office. And this was around the time where
- 20:15Speaker 2: we were getting ready for free agency in the sentence
- 20:17Speaker 2: a little bit before, and he was like, Hey, Lebron
- 20:21Speaker 2: and Leon Leon Rose was Lebron's agent at the time, Hey,
- 20:23Speaker 2: we want to get on the call. We want to
- 20:25Speaker 2: talk about something, and so we all got on a
- 20:27Speaker 2: call and actually the conversation. Bron brought the conversation up
- 20:30Speaker 2: to me and Hank on the phone, and I was like,
- 20:35Speaker 2: you'll play with me, Bro, Like I never thought me
- 20:37Speaker 2: and Brown would play again, Like we love playing the
- 20:39Speaker 2: All Stars and the Olympics, but not the regular season,
- 20:42Speaker 2: Like that's my favorite person him and Kobe to play against.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Not thinking I'm gonna play with the guy, and he
- 20:46Speaker 2: was like, yo, what's up. I was like, well, what's up?
- 20:52Speaker 2: And we started dating.
- 20:56Speaker 1: History that's what happens, and you all went on to
- 21:00Speaker 1: win championships together. You know, what is it like to
- 21:05Speaker 1: play on the floor with someone like you just said,
- 21:07Speaker 1: Like you just described that's your favorite person to play against.
- 21:11Speaker 1: But also, you guys created so much magic in the
- 21:14Speaker 1: Olympics when you all played together, and I saw the
- 21:17Speaker 1: joy that you all had. So what was it like
- 21:19Speaker 1: to win championships with someone you were drafted with in
- 21:24Speaker 1: the same class with Chris and Broun. That craziness.
- 21:29Speaker 2: How to let that happen?
- 21:30Speaker 1: I don't understand that that's wild, But how was it?
- 21:34Speaker 1: How was it winning championships? With with Braun and with
- 21:37Speaker 1: Chris Bosh.
- 21:39Speaker 2: You know, I think if I could put it, like
- 21:41Speaker 2: in my life now, it's all I want to do
- 21:43Speaker 2: in my life today is really want to do things
- 21:46Speaker 2: and work with people that I really mess with, that
- 21:49Speaker 2: I really like that, I really want to be around
- 21:52Speaker 2: that I like minded, you know, all these things, and
- 21:55Speaker 2: it makes it so much easier when you are around
- 21:58Speaker 2: individuals that way. And so it was the best. It
- 22:01Speaker 2: was the greatest part of my basketball career those four
- 22:03Speaker 2: years to get up every day and know I'm around
- 22:06Speaker 2: like minded people that we all are trying to accomplish
- 22:09Speaker 2: the same things, and just the chemistry we were the heatles,
- 22:16Speaker 2: like we sold out every state that we went in,
- 22:19Speaker 2: not even just the arena, like we sold out the hotels,
- 22:22Speaker 2: people with buying rooms to stay in hotels like we
- 22:25Speaker 2: were doing so much. And so to be able to
- 22:27Speaker 2: go through your basketball journey and have those four years
- 22:31Speaker 2: where you know you actually are who you think you are,
- 22:35Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like that was a We
- 22:36Speaker 2: was a show, and we did it together as brothers,
- 22:40Speaker 2: and the relationship we had just continued to keep building,
- 22:43Speaker 2: and so we had so much fun doing it. And
- 22:45Speaker 2: I gave up about five thousand points to Lobs. So
- 22:48Speaker 2: Lebron too, By the way, I could have had about
- 22:51Speaker 2: twenty seven thousand points if I didn't play with Brin.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So, speaking of which with the Lobs, you know you
- 22:58Speaker 1: talk about AJ Brown and DeVante Smith doing recreating their
- 23:04Speaker 1: lob as a celebration touchdown. I mean, what is that like?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Because every time you see it, every time I see
- 23:09Speaker 1: a Bron and d Wade shirt, it's that like that
- 23:13Speaker 1: is etched in my mind that so did you just
- 23:17Speaker 1: do it? You just did it?
- 23:18Speaker 2: I just did it. Okay, So I don't no matter
- 23:21Speaker 2: how many times I say this, people don't understand that
- 23:24Speaker 2: that was not a lot. So what were you It
- 23:28Speaker 2: was a bounce pass. I didn't throw a lot to
- 23:31Speaker 2: Lebron on that play. I threw a bounce pass. And
- 23:33Speaker 2: then I did this what to the crowd? And the
- 23:36Speaker 2: reason I did that because we was back in Milwaukee
- 23:38Speaker 2: where my jerseys hanging in the raptors as a Marquette player,
- 23:42Speaker 2: and they was booing us, and I'm like, y'all, don't
- 23:45Speaker 2: boom this thing. What happens when I come to town?
- 23:48Speaker 2: And so I was like, oh, okay. So when I
- 23:50Speaker 2: threw it back. I know what six is gonna do
- 23:53Speaker 2: And I just was like what And they caught that
- 23:55Speaker 2: picture which was called it It was a bounce pass
- 24:01Speaker 2: that had been a crazy lib though about.
- 24:02Speaker 1: A Yeah, but you're a flash, so I I didn't
- 24:09Speaker 1: doubt it.
- 24:09Speaker 2: But it don't matter how many times I said, people
- 24:11Speaker 2: still going to say that that was a lot.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Well, you must know where I'm going with this, because
- 24:16Speaker 1: you talked about retired jerseys, and you've got your jersey
- 24:21Speaker 1: retired at Marquette, got your jersey retired as a heat.
- 24:26Speaker 1: What is that like when you're standing there and you're
- 24:30Speaker 1: watching your jersey go up into the rafters flashback, You
- 24:36Speaker 1: weren't a heavily recruited high school athlete. You're known to
- 24:40Speaker 1: talk about that. You didn't come up as like this
- 24:45Speaker 1: heralded super superstar out of high school. You worked your
- 24:48Speaker 1: way at Marquette and you all were in the final four,
- 24:52Speaker 1: and then you went on and declared early to the draft.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But what is that like having gone through your grind,
- 24:57Speaker 1: your experience, your journey. So then and I'll see both
- 25:00Speaker 1: of those jerseys hanging in the rafters.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Just you see the work, you see the sacrifice, like
- 25:08Speaker 2: when I'm watching that jersey go up, I'm seeing everything
- 25:11Speaker 2: that was unseen, the unseen hours. You know, everything that
- 25:15Speaker 2: the fans got a chance to see. That's great, it's
- 25:17Speaker 2: good for them. But the hardest part of the whole
- 25:20Speaker 2: journey was what you did not get to see. The injuries,
- 25:24Speaker 2: you know, getting the call that I'm having that I'm
- 25:26Speaker 2: gonna be a father at twenty years old. You know,
- 25:30Speaker 2: the divorces, the lawsuits, like everything that you had do it,
- 25:33Speaker 2: that you went through, that's what you're looking at go
- 25:36Speaker 2: up in them rafters. And so for me, man, just
- 25:39Speaker 2: it's overcoming. It's my story and each time, each stop,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I want to give you my best version of me.
- 25:46Speaker 2: And when you're able to walk away, and you know
- 25:48Speaker 2: this because we are, we're here. What You've got more
- 25:51Speaker 2: awards than I have and more things going on than
- 25:53Speaker 2: me to be able to be great. And where every
- 25:57Speaker 2: stop that you've been at from middle school the way
- 26:00Speaker 2: to you know to the last place you played, they
- 26:02Speaker 2: want to put your jersey in there. That means that
- 26:05Speaker 2: not only you were a great athlete, but that means
- 26:07Speaker 2: you was a great person. That means you represented yourself
- 26:10Speaker 2: and the organizational university or whatever it was, to the
- 26:13Speaker 2: highest of the high so so much respect when they
- 26:16Speaker 2: decided to put that that jersey up in the raptors.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And so for me, I just see the journey throughout
- 26:23Speaker 2: and just understanding, just being a very proud of myself.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Like you, you gotta patch yourself on the back sometime
- 26:28Speaker 2: because as athletes, we don't, right, we just got to
- 26:30Speaker 2: push through. We just got to get to the next game.
- 26:32Speaker 2: We gotta get to the next play, we gotta get
- 26:34Speaker 2: to the next day. But in those moments, yeah, you
- 26:37Speaker 2: get to patch yourself in the back from the journey.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I don't have a statue. I don't I don't have
- 26:43Speaker 1: a statue.
- 26:44Speaker 2: So we want to.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Be up here talking about all the things that oh
- 26:48Speaker 1: Candice has I don't have a statue. Next no, no, no, no,
- 26:53Speaker 1: that's next level. When you have a statue that is
- 26:55Speaker 1: etched in stone and it will be there and it
- 26:58Speaker 1: will be something that you can take your kids, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: great grandkids all those things better.
- 27:03Speaker 2: You know, I am, first of all, my grandkid's not
- 27:06Speaker 2: gonna know anything about Nate Smith, James Nate Smith. They're
- 27:09Speaker 2: gonna think I invented basketball. This statue was the first
- 27:13Speaker 2: statue ever invented. I invented basket. My story is gonna
- 27:17Speaker 2: be crazy when they when I get older.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Well, tell me about the statue. Tell me about the process. Yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 1: enlighten me, because I don't know what that what that's like.
- 27:26Speaker 2: You will what was cool about the process for me.
- 27:31Speaker 2: We are, you know, two kids from Chicago. We have
- 27:34Speaker 2: Chicago ties, and we grew up knowing uh and seeing
- 27:38Speaker 2: Michael Jordan's statue that he got in nineteen ninety two
- 27:40Speaker 2: ninety three, the coldest statue ever. When I got opportunity
- 27:44Speaker 2: to do my statue, I only wanted one person to
- 27:46Speaker 2: do my statue and it's the same person who did
- 27:48Speaker 2: Michael Jordan's statue. Because I never would even knew about
- 27:51Speaker 2: a statue, never even it's not something that that was
- 27:55Speaker 2: in our path or something you can have until I
- 27:57Speaker 2: saw Michael Jordan have one, and so to be a
- 28:00Speaker 2: to go down to Chicago, I had about four or
- 28:02Speaker 2: five visits. I spent at least three to four hours
- 28:05Speaker 2: each time, and to be able to create this statue
- 28:08Speaker 2: from wires to clay and then eventually into bronze, it
- 28:14Speaker 2: was an amazing experience to go through. I think The
- 28:17Speaker 2: one thing of it all that was so emotional as
- 28:19Speaker 2: I was forming my own is Kobe and Gg's statue
- 28:25Speaker 2: was getting created right next to mine, and so I
- 28:29Speaker 2: felt so I don't know what to feel. I had
- 28:32Speaker 2: so many emotions to be able to look at something
- 28:34Speaker 2: that you know, I know would be around long at there.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I'm here, but I'm sitting here watching my brothers not
- 28:40Speaker 2: getting a chance to go through the same experience. And
- 28:42Speaker 2: so to be able to experience something in that magnitude,
- 28:47Speaker 2: I feel so blessed and I feel so lucky to
- 28:50Speaker 2: have been able to do that. And also too, I
- 28:53Speaker 2: just got to say this what people want to do
- 28:56Speaker 2: in this world we live in. People want to take
- 28:57Speaker 2: your moments away from you. When my statue got unveil,
- 29:00Speaker 2: people took my moment away from me. People take moments
- 29:03Speaker 2: and they make them jokes, they make it funny, they
- 29:05Speaker 2: make it all these things. And it was a big
- 29:07Speaker 2: moment for me for so many reasons. And everyone they
- 29:10Speaker 2: try to take my moment, you know what I mean,
- 29:12Speaker 2: That's what people will do to us. They will take
- 29:14Speaker 2: your moment. And so the process was so incredible, and
- 29:19Speaker 2: I'm so blessed to be one of the ones to
- 29:21Speaker 2: say that he's experienced. You know what that was, and
- 29:24Speaker 2: I got a chance to see it.
- 29:25Speaker 1: But d Wade, you don't let people take your moment
- 29:27Speaker 1: because you don't ever let people take your joy.
- 29:29Speaker 2: They tried, do you know what I mean?
- 29:30Speaker 1: They tried, But the way that you have always walked.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And this is one thing that I have respected about
- 29:38Speaker 1: this man constantly. And I always tell you this, like
- 29:41Speaker 1: through texts whenever I see you. If I haven't said
- 29:44Speaker 1: it this weekend, I probably will later after I beat you.
- 29:47Speaker 1: In spades. I respect him because d Wade is who
- 29:52Speaker 1: he is and he is unapologetic for the way that
- 29:54Speaker 1: he operates, and I just love that about him. I
- 29:59Speaker 1: love that you do not let things change you. And
- 30:02Speaker 1: that has been something that I have noticed from back
- 30:05Speaker 1: in our days. And I know this might be like
- 30:08Speaker 1: something really small, but as a college kid, I didn't
- 30:10Speaker 1: have an io like we were. I was eating Papa
- 30:13Speaker 1: John's for pregame meals and things like that. Thanks I
- 30:16Speaker 1: went to the sb's in two thousand cheese five, No
- 30:22Speaker 1: it was two thousand and six, because it was hey day,
- 30:25Speaker 1: like it was like him. D Wade was him right,
- 30:29Speaker 1: and my brother and him share the same agent, and
- 30:33Speaker 1: Hank was like, hey, d Wade, take care of AP's
- 30:36Speaker 1: little sister. So I get to the sb's and he's like,
- 30:39Speaker 1: where are you going. I'm like, what, I got two
- 30:41Speaker 1: older brothers. I'm good. Like you know, he he's always
- 30:45Speaker 1: stepped into that role. So I get back to college
- 30:49Speaker 1: and he sent me a d Wade Sidekick edition and
- 30:54Speaker 1: it had the little basketball grip on the back and
- 30:56Speaker 1: I still have it, like it is still in my
- 30:58Speaker 1: office in my little tree and get drawer. Because it
- 31:01Speaker 1: was such a small thing. I mean, I became the
- 31:04Speaker 1: woman on campus because I had it. Nobody else had it,
- 31:07Speaker 1: and I was one of the first to have it.
- 31:08Speaker 1: But it's just stuff like that that you meet people.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And I know it's something small, but it meant a
- 31:15Speaker 1: lot to me. And so I just want to say
- 31:16Speaker 1: I'm grateful for the person that you are, that you
- 31:18Speaker 1: always show up for people that you love. You have
- 31:20Speaker 1: showed up for me in ways I can't even explain.
- 31:23Speaker 1: So I just sorry not to get you know, but
- 31:26Speaker 1: I feel like you should give people their flowers.
- 31:29Speaker 2: All right, it's my dog. We eat high Holburgers when
- 31:35Speaker 2: we get back.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Oh, we're gonna eat some High Hoburgers been up on
- 31:39Speaker 1: High Hope. We're trying to get the sponsored by High Home.
- 31:43Speaker 1: You are a podcaster in retirement. I'm a podcaster. Something
- 31:47Speaker 1: we'd love to do is we love to make guarantees.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So I would love for you to play a rapid
- 31:51Speaker 1: fire game of guaranteed be presented by AT and T guarantee. Okay,
- 31:57Speaker 1: So I'll say a statement and you have to finish
- 31:59Speaker 1: it off.
- 31:59Speaker 2: With guarantee, Like I gotta say guaranteed.
- 32:03Speaker 1: No, I'm gonna you have to guarantee it. So like,
- 32:07Speaker 1: tell me what you guarantee that Heat are guaranteed.
- 32:10Speaker 2: To to talk about heat culture.
- 32:18Speaker 1: A ka, he doesn't know if they gonna make the
- 32:20Speaker 1: playoffs this year.
- 32:21Speaker 2: They guaranteed to talk about heat coaching. Okay.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Lebron and Luca are guaranteed.
- 32:27Speaker 2: To sell a lot of jerseys.
- 32:30Speaker 1: The NBA is real service. Okay, I see, I see
- 32:33Speaker 1: that the NBA Finals are guaranteed to look like, huh,
- 32:42Speaker 1: who's gonna be in the NBA Finals?
- 32:45Speaker 2: Why do you need to ask that.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Kind of fit with the guarantee. That's why I had
- 32:51Speaker 1: to go with the flow of the show.
- 32:52Speaker 2: You understand, Balsta Celtics in the East versus h who
- 33:04Speaker 2: what oh because y'all got Jimmy now y'all, well, y'all,
- 33:12Speaker 2: y'all like I got Boston win at all.
- 33:19Speaker 1: But but there's too but there's two teams that have
- 33:22Speaker 1: to compete.
- 33:23Speaker 2: So what I know. See, I'm having a hard time. Okay,
- 33:27Speaker 2: I wanted to say, okay, see right, but also to.
- 33:31Speaker 1: The best record in the league, I know, but.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Also getting to that level. They haven't been at that
- 33:36Speaker 2: level yet. They lost in the second round last.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Year to Luca, who went on to play in the final. Okay,
- 33:42Speaker 1: this is your guarantee.
- 33:44Speaker 2: This is how this is us on TV. But you
- 33:46Speaker 2: see that this is out but.
- 33:47Speaker 1: You have to pick because you said, okay, see it's
- 33:49Speaker 1: not I'm thinking.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I'm thinking. I'm thinking, Okay, we're gonna keep it at Boston. Okay,
- 33:54Speaker 2: see okay, so we keep it there, all right?
- 33:57Speaker 1: And what is one thing you and Shack are we're
- 34:00Speaker 1: guaranteed to get in an argument about nothing.
- 34:04Speaker 2: We guarantee not to get an argument about nothing. We
- 34:07Speaker 2: haven't gotten one argument. He too, I'm gonna arguing with
- 34:10Speaker 2: that big dude. What we argue about.
- 34:15Speaker 1: That's what I was like, I'm in the studio, which
- 34:17Speaker 1: all honest, All right, that's your answer. Okay, So let's
- 34:21Speaker 1: talk about ownership because this is something that you have
- 34:25Speaker 1: blazed a trail in. I'm going to go through a
- 34:26Speaker 1: few investments and I'm taking his lead on these type
- 34:30Speaker 1: of things because from a business standpoint, I looked at
- 34:33Speaker 1: Magic Johnson, I looked at Kobe, and now I'm looking
- 34:37Speaker 1: at you, based especially off this list. Co owner of
- 34:40Speaker 1: Utah Jazz, co owner of the Chicago Sky, co owner
- 34:46Speaker 1: of Real Salt Lake MLS. Ownerships take in Utah Hockey
- 34:50Speaker 1: Club iNHL which had you been to a hockey game
- 34:53Speaker 1: before that?
- 34:54Speaker 2: H one?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Okay? Cool? So you know the rules of like the
- 34:57Speaker 1: three lines and all that stuff.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I was learning that well, learning it all that the game,
- 35:01Speaker 2: Like what what does it?
- 35:02Speaker 1: What are we doing? Why are they subbing all of
- 35:04Speaker 1: their players? Okay? Owner of Wade Sellers, which is amazing,
- 35:11Speaker 1: by the way, I'm a wine drinker. I love it
- 35:13Speaker 1: and it's specializing in California Cabs. Owner of fifty ninth
- 35:17Speaker 1: in Prairie Entertainment production company. A lifetime partnership. Dang lifetime
- 35:24Speaker 1: with leaning goodness. Okay, So what explain was this something
- 35:32Speaker 1: that you just ended your basketball career and you were like,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna just dibble and dabble over here.
- 35:37Speaker 1: How did this journey in the business world begin.
- 35:42Speaker 2: It probably started when I was twenty seven, actually, when
- 35:44Speaker 2: I tore my shoulder up and I had to knee
- 35:47Speaker 2: surgeon in the same year, just being somebody who was like, oh, okay,
- 35:51Speaker 2: so this can be taken away from me. That's when
- 35:55Speaker 2: Hank and Lisa and myself started the business journey and
- 35:59Speaker 2: a lot out of it. If you guys know, it's
- 36:01Speaker 2: a relationship journey, you know what I mean, Like you
- 36:03Speaker 2: can know a lot, you better, you better know a
- 36:05Speaker 2: lot of people, And you know, I started the journey
- 36:08Speaker 2: to build relationships. I asked so many questions, and so
- 36:12Speaker 2: whenever I'm around somebody, I'm just all I'm just asking
- 36:15Speaker 2: them all kind of questions about what they do that
- 36:17Speaker 2: I don't do because I don't know. I've mastered basketball.
- 36:21Speaker 2: I have a master's in basketball, as you do as well.
- 36:24Speaker 2: And so that journey started at twenty seven for me.
- 36:27Speaker 2: So when I got done playing basketball at thirty seven,
- 36:31Speaker 2: I had built up enough, I built up enough relationships
- 36:35Speaker 2: and I was able to now tap into those relationships.
- 36:38Speaker 2: And you know, the first one that I would say
- 36:41Speaker 2: took a chance in a sense was Utah was a
- 36:45Speaker 2: jazz when it came to the big investments that we
- 36:50Speaker 2: normally don't get an opportunity to get into or get
- 36:52Speaker 2: a chance to see. And it was a relationship that
- 36:55Speaker 2: I built with Ryan Smith, you know, by some camps
- 36:58Speaker 2: that I was hosting and also golfing and things of
- 37:01Speaker 2: that nature. And for someone to come and see value
- 37:04Speaker 2: in you, I think is the thing that I appreciate
- 37:07Speaker 2: it most because when you retire and leave the game,
- 37:11Speaker 2: you don't know, you have no idea because you've put
- 37:14Speaker 2: so much into something and so you don't know, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 2: what your next you move necessarily would be from a
- 37:19Speaker 2: purpose standpoint, like what am I going to do that
- 37:21Speaker 2: gives me purpose? And how people are gonna view me?
- 37:24Speaker 2: And so Ryan coming in Andy's showing me the value
- 37:26Speaker 2: of how he viewed me really gave me confidence to
- 37:28Speaker 2: continue to keep going in these other investments. And so
- 37:31Speaker 2: I'm just trying to diversify too, just trying to be
- 37:35Speaker 2: like me, try to be like I am and not
- 37:37Speaker 2: just be you know, one thing, So to do all
- 37:40Speaker 2: those things and to be involved in all those things,
- 37:41Speaker 2: and you got to have an amazing family. And so
- 37:44Speaker 2: I have an incredible family that supports me. I have
- 37:46Speaker 2: an incredible team that supports me. And so yeah, I'm
- 37:50Speaker 2: trying to be a leader of the pack. As you said,
- 37:53Speaker 2: we had cold, and we're always looking at cold like, okay,
- 37:56Speaker 2: he doing it, and then we don't have cold. And
- 37:59Speaker 2: so I look at it as responsibility for the next
- 38:02Speaker 2: generation that's coming out to say, look at the way
- 38:04Speaker 2: these the way's doing it and then give you guy
- 38:07Speaker 2: the confidence to go out there and put on and
- 38:09Speaker 2: do you all things. And so I'm glad that I'm
- 38:11Speaker 2: able to, you know, to do those things that it's
- 38:14Speaker 2: like kind of trailblazing in some way, in some ways, some.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Ways, in some ways, in a lot of ways.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so in a lot of ways. And I appreciative and.
- 38:25Speaker 1: In a way, I want to segue into my favorite
- 38:27Speaker 1: part of you. I said, you know, you being who
- 38:30Speaker 1: you are and being consistent. Yes, that's the second though,
- 38:33Speaker 1: because my favorite is you as a father and we talk.
- 38:36Speaker 1: We have these conversations about our kids all the time.
- 38:40Speaker 2: All the time.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Our kids go to school together, and we literally will
- 38:45Speaker 1: meet each other At high Hole Cheeseburger, I'll run into
- 38:49Speaker 1: him with a big old double cheeseburger and we'll have
- 38:52Speaker 1: conversations about our kids. And I think that's what we've
- 38:54Speaker 1: always done. What can you say about how they change
- 39:02Speaker 1: who you are and how you look at the world.
- 39:06Speaker 2: You know, I think the one thing that's so great
- 39:08Speaker 2: about our kids is we get a chance to see
- 39:11Speaker 2: all the best, the best versions of ourselves in them.
- 39:15Speaker 2: You know, you know, it's it's something real and wrong
- 39:19Speaker 2: and pure about kids. It's not nothing fake, it's authentic.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And I'm able to see that through my kids. And
- 39:30Speaker 2: you know, one thing I've been able to do is,
- 39:32Speaker 2: first of all, I'm proud that, you know, my lineage
- 39:35Speaker 2: will go on when I'm not here. I'm proud to
- 39:36Speaker 2: know that, you know, there's gonna be some ways some
- 39:39Speaker 2: people that look like me out here when I'm gone.
- 39:42Speaker 2: People's everybody, everybody.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Yes, your genes are very strong.
- 39:49Speaker 2: But I'm I'm in love with my kids, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 2: Like I love the fact that I have this opportunity
- 39:56Speaker 2: to to leave an imprint, you know, h in their lives,
- 40:01Speaker 2: on their lives, and I wake up every day trying
- 40:04Speaker 2: to do that in all the facets, and so I
- 40:07Speaker 2: really just in love with my kids, so thankful to
- 40:11Speaker 2: be you know, it's an honor that I was chosen
- 40:14Speaker 2: to be a father. We all know that it's not
- 40:16Speaker 2: something that is chosen for everyone. And so I have
- 40:19Speaker 2: a twenty three year old son and I have a
- 40:21Speaker 2: six year old daughter in between, and so I've been
- 40:25Speaker 2: blessed to be a parent pretty much my whole life,
- 40:28Speaker 2: and it's given me purpose. It's made me understand what
- 40:34Speaker 2: my why is. It's giving life the purpose of being
- 40:39Speaker 2: bigger than yourself, and it's great for everyone who lives
- 40:43Speaker 2: life and focus on yourselves. Please do that. Please focus
- 40:46Speaker 2: on you and learn who you are. But when you
- 40:48Speaker 2: were able to find something that's bigger than you and
- 40:50Speaker 2: give you purpose, you know, you just want that and
- 40:53Speaker 2: I just won't. I love that. So I just want
- 40:55Speaker 2: to be as much as I can be, you know,
- 40:59Speaker 2: involved in kids' lives. But I don't run day life
- 41:03Speaker 2: in a sense of I try to make them like me,
- 41:06Speaker 2: or I try to make them someone they're not or
- 41:08Speaker 2: somebody they're not. You know, I understand that, and I'm
- 41:11Speaker 2: a facilitator, I truly am, and so I'm just trying
- 41:15Speaker 2: to facilitate you.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Know, y'all, I just want you to know we had
- 41:18Speaker 1: all these notes. I could talk to this dude for Yeah,
- 41:22Speaker 1: we could talk. We could talk for four hours up here.
- 41:25Speaker 1: So excuse me while I jump, because we are in
- 41:28Speaker 1: the bay, and I do owe you all a question
- 41:30Speaker 1: about Jimmy Butler. We'll just acquired. I had a whole
- 41:37Speaker 1: other questions of parenthood and all that stuff. But we'll
- 41:40Speaker 1: get some wine and talk about that at a different time.
- 41:43Speaker 1: But what do you think that Jimmy Butler or Jimmy
- 41:45Speaker 1: Buckets is gonna bring to the Golden State Warriors.
- 41:51Speaker 2: First of all, I like the I like to move
- 41:53Speaker 2: for Golden State. I really like it for Steph. I'm
- 41:56Speaker 2: a Steph Curry fan and to be able to be
- 42:00Speaker 2: at this point in Steph's career, in Draymond's career, I
- 42:03Speaker 2: think everything they accomplished, you don't want to see them
- 42:08Speaker 2: losing like like we saw. We won't to see Steph
- 42:10Speaker 2: not having fun with the game like his Steph is
- 42:14Speaker 2: infectious with his energy and you can see it was
- 42:17Speaker 2: kind of getting zapped away. And so what Jimmy brings it,
- 42:19Speaker 2: He's bringing life. He brings like you know, for that team,
- 42:23Speaker 2: he brings another guy that you know can do something different,
- 42:29Speaker 2: like like like Steve Kerse. He he can get to
- 42:31Speaker 2: the line thirteen fourteen, fifteen times a night. You can
- 42:33Speaker 2: go to him to slow when when when the game
- 42:35Speaker 2: slows down. He's great because he doesn't need the ball
- 42:39Speaker 2: to be effective. He's a great cutter, he's a great
- 42:43Speaker 2: offensive rebound, he's a great post player, mid post player.
- 42:47Speaker 2: He's great in pick and rolls with the ball, without
- 42:49Speaker 2: the ball. Obviously, we know he's ferocious on defense when
- 42:51Speaker 2: he wants to be. So he just brings so much
- 42:54Speaker 2: that's a little different than what we've come to see
- 42:56Speaker 2: with Golden State, and I think everybody was, you know,
- 42:59Speaker 2: hoping to see the same version of what you saw.
- 43:02Speaker 2: But Jimmy brings us a total different element to that
- 43:04Speaker 2: team that that scares you when you want to say, okay,
- 43:08Speaker 2: see or one of those teams will make it because
- 43:10Speaker 2: you got guys, yeah, yeah, yeah, you got you got
- 43:13Speaker 2: you got some some veteran guys down there that was
- 43:15Speaker 2: gonna be in that bottom side, that bottom half, and
- 43:18Speaker 2: you got some young teams that's trying to accomplish something
- 43:20Speaker 2: at the top, and so It's going to be very
- 43:22Speaker 2: interesting to see. You know, who's going to come out
- 43:25Speaker 2: on top. It's going to be the old the old dogs.
- 43:27Speaker 2: That was gonna be the young bulls. We will see.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Well, Listen, learning to win is definitely a skill.
- 43:32Speaker 2: That is That's what I'm talking. I was afraid to say, Okay,
- 43:34Speaker 2: see it is all right.
- 43:35Speaker 1: We're gonna do one more segment and it's called who
- 43:40Speaker 1: said that? No, I'm going to read a quote about
- 43:45Speaker 1: you that somebody said and you have to tell me
- 43:48Speaker 1: who said it.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Well, you ain't gonna give me like no multiple choice
- 43:51Speaker 2: like no, ABC.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I can give you a few a few clues. It's
- 43:55Speaker 1: a teammate of yours from back in the day, all right.
- 44:01Speaker 1: So it starts with he's not humble by far. When
- 44:07Speaker 1: Dwayne gets on the court, I can see the hunger
- 44:10Speaker 1: in his face. He wants to win. He doesn't take prisoners.
- 44:14Speaker 1: He wants to kill you.
- 44:16Speaker 2: That's a player or coach.
- 44:17Speaker 1: That's a player, that's a teammate of yours that you
- 44:21Speaker 1: actually spoke about today. Briefly, he talks a lot of talks,
- 44:26Speaker 1: a lot of old school. Just got into it with
- 44:31Speaker 1: KD actually talking back O.
- 44:32Speaker 2: GP okay, all right, okay, g G said about me.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Yeah, Gary Payton in two thousand and secs said that
- 44:38Speaker 1: about you.
- 44:39Speaker 2: He said I wouldn't humble.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Um, he said he's not humble. But he also said
- 44:44Speaker 1: by far. So I'm just I'm just reading what it says.
- 44:49Speaker 1: But anyway, this episode of.
- 44:52Speaker 2: That, that's to be a complement.
- 44:56Speaker 1: My producers tell me I got a rap?
- 44:59Speaker 2: Could we get a part two to this one?
- 45:01Speaker 1: This episode of the Trophy Room was brought to you
- 45:03Speaker 1: by AT and T Connectivity depend On, backed by the
- 45:06Speaker 1: AT and T Guarantee. D Wade, thank you so much
- 45:10Speaker 1: for doing this. I can't wait to do this again.
- 45:12Speaker 1: You all, thank you so much for joining us.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Appreciate it.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Thank you. You said you ain't humbled by far what
- 45:20Speaker 1: I said by far It's crazy.
