Transcript
- 0:02my guest today is Greg McDonald Greg is
- 0:05the founder of Chelsea strategies and
- 0:07advisory firm that helps ad Tech leaders
- 0:11accelerate programmatic Partnerships and
- 0:13product strategy Greg has spent a number
- 0:16of years decades in a series of firms
- 0:20including Yahoo and Verizon media where
- 0:24he led efforts around the development
- 0:26and management of programmatic buying
- 0:28and auction-based Market
- 0:30places today we're going to be talking
- 0:33about a series of different key trends
- 0:35that Greg sees in the market in 20124
- 0:39and how you can be better positioned to
- 0:41take advantage of those Trends Greg
- 0:44thank you so much for joining me today
- 0:47thanks so much James I'm looking forward
- 0:49to our
- 0:50conversation excellent Now Greg I know
- 0:53that you have identified a number of
- 0:55Trends I think in a recent post you
- 0:57outlined at least nine I don't
- 0:59necessarily intend to get into all nine
- 1:01today although I think I want to focus
- 1:04on a couple of specific ones and also
- 1:06how some of those interact and uh I want
- 1:09to start with something that isn't
- 1:11necessarily a trend but a feature of AD
- 1:14buying in 2024 which is of course in the
- 1:17US the election firstly talk to me about
- 1:20the constraints around political because
- 1:23not all adtech players choose to really
- 1:27engage with political ads and why is
- 1:29that
- 1:30so indeed every four years the US has
- 1:33presidential elections and that's really
- 1:35when we see uh when we talk the most
- 1:38about it um and uh in terms of
- 1:41constraints I would say broadly speaking
- 1:44it's really about the willingness to be
- 1:46exposed to the potential risks that go
- 1:48along with political
- 1:50campaigns um campaigns move very very
- 1:53quickly um they and ads are often
- 1:56responding to things that occurred in a
- 1:58new cycle um so both the ads themselves
- 2:01as well as the topics they move very
- 2:03quickly and they can be controversial
- 2:05and so it's something where um it's it
- 2:08is largely a reputational risk or it's a
- 2:11PR risk if you will where where players
- 2:13Publishers and platforms will say you
- 2:16know do we have the what it takes to uh
- 2:19to go and and respond uh to to get the
- 2:21campaigns up quickly and then to respond
- 2:25and to uh match the supply and demand in
- 2:28ways that meet the needs of The
- 2:30Advertiser and the publisher as well as
- 2:33the audiences that they're that they're
- 2:34working with so I would say that's sort
- 2:36of the single biggest thing there there
- 2:38are a number of other areas within there
- 2:40but but that's really the single biggest
- 2:42thing that most platforms spend their
- 2:43time talking about is um is how quickly
- 2:46it goes um and the the potential risks
- 2:50PR risks if you will that that go with
- 2:52those and just on that point and I don't
- 2:55claim to be an expert in this area but I
- 2:57believe that there is sort of more of an
- 3:00onus on Publishers and adtech providers
- 3:03to check that all the entities they're
- 3:05interacting with are genuine political
- 3:07entities I know some of them try to do
- 3:09things like set up databases Etc to make
- 3:12sure they understand all the entities
- 3:14that they're working with is that just
- 3:16an extra hurdle for anyone who's trying
- 3:18to engage in a programmatic manner um it
- 3:21is an extra hurdle and I think that um
- 3:25uh it's something that sort of leads to
- 3:27one of the other Dynamics that's going
- 3:29to be it's not new but I think it's
- 3:30going to be much more present with AI
- 3:33this year which is um the ability for AI
- 3:36to really power creatives to create deep
- 3:38fakes whether that's audio or visual or
- 3:41both um and so you want to know both you
- 3:44know it's kind of a know your customer
- 3:46uh perspective but then also uh know
- 3:49your you're creative and um and you know
- 3:52it's are because you don't want to
- 3:54become a vehicle for disinformation
- 3:56that's again not a new problem in
- 3:57digital marketing at all but it's one
- 4:00where the stakes are much higher when it
- 4:02comes to political and to election
- 4:04Cycles um and it's one where the
- 4:06incentives are very high for for Bad
- 4:08actors to to try to step in you're
- 4:11actually already answering one of the
- 4:13questions I was going to ask you which
- 4:15is you know around what's going to be
- 4:17different this election cycle and
- 4:19clearly sort of AI and deep fakes are a
- 4:21big part of that if I'm a programmatic
- 4:25adtech player what am I trying to do to
- 4:27protect myself during the selection
- 4:29cycle
- 4:31um so again you're going to be looking
- 4:33at uh knowing your customer
- 4:35understanding who they are where they're
- 4:37coming from um and you're going to be
- 4:40doing creative validation you're you're
- 4:42going to be looking at it in a number of
- 4:43different ways and um and then really
- 4:47making sure that you've got people on
- 4:49the front lines at all the different
- 4:51parts of the the supply chain um to to
- 4:55check that things are going right and
- 4:56you're going to have uh contracts you're
- 4:59going to have procedures and you're
- 5:00going to have uh technology that that is
- 5:03helping you uh try to make sure that
- 5:06that um that you've got good actors and
- 5:09and the right ads that are going uh
- 5:12where you want them to
- 5:13go and and how do you expect the
- 5:16programmatics spend to play out this
- 5:19election cycle there's this question of
- 5:22how much of it's going to be targeted
- 5:24specifically at those key swing States
- 5:27or you know undecided voters or is this
- 5:30a case where the extra spend sort of
- 5:32raises all boats or the the rising tide
- 5:35raises all boats and so we might
- 5:37actually see bidding up in all the
- 5:39programmatic markets and and you know
- 5:41additional beneficiaries beyond that
- 5:43political vertical um so that's a great
- 5:46question I think something that was a
- 5:49shift probably the last cycle four years
- 5:51ago but I'm not sure everybody realizes
- 5:53is that political ads have really made
- 5:55the shift to CTV and video formats it's
- 5:58longer format it's more engag enging its
- 6:00higher impact um and so that that was
- 6:03something that happened and that we can
- 6:05certainly expect to see uh continue and
- 6:08and I think that uh the buyers will
- 6:10continue to lean into those formats even
- 6:12more heavily than they might have in the
- 6:13past um but on the point of what's what
- 6:16are going to be some of the impacts on
- 6:18the the
- 6:19marketplace um certainly you know our
- 6:23people going to be buying in in targeted
- 6:25swing States as well as overall yes um
- 6:28it's not an either it's certainly going
- 6:30to be both um but in the programmatic
- 6:32marketplaces in particular like in in
- 6:35the open market and the pmps um you'll
- 6:38certainly have the swing States but um
- 6:41in certain places I don't know that
- 6:43we'll see all boats are that that that
- 6:45the the overall market price is is going
- 6:47to go up but we absolutely will see that
- 6:50certain Pockets will be sold out um
- 6:52certain time slots will be sold out and
- 6:54certain Publishers uh will will also
- 6:57likely be sold out so I think um is
- 7:00everybody going to see higher prices
- 7:02probably not but are we that certainly
- 7:04that would be my guess but are you
- 7:06likely to run into a spot where
- 7:09something is not available or something
- 7:10is more expensive than you might have uh
- 7:13anticipated I think every buyer is going
- 7:15to run into that to some degree but uh
- 7:18the overall prices um I I don't know
- 7:21that I would expect that we'll see them
- 7:22go up consistently for a period of time
- 7:25just closing this out where you mean
- 7:28there was a time where and you you make
- 7:31the point that a lot of the spin goes
- 7:33onto CTV and video there was a time when
- 7:36it was very easy for political spend to
- 7:38to just really Target meta YouTube the
- 7:42sort of big Platforms in terms of the
- 7:44breadth of spend that you expect to see
- 7:46both from the presidential election but
- 7:48also one level down you know in terms of
- 7:51State politics Etc do we expect now that
- 7:54things have gone more programmatic and
- 7:57presumably easier to buy smaller budgets
- 8:00that we're going to see a longer list of
- 8:03beneficiaries within the publisher
- 8:06Community uh I think that's I think
- 8:08that's right I think we'll see a longer
- 8:09list of beneficiaries and I think again
- 8:12the other thing that I'm not sure
- 8:13everybody realizes is while it is most
- 8:16in the spotlight in a presidential
- 8:17election year it is an always on thing I
- 8:20mean we have uh midterm elections but
- 8:22then beyond that you've got advocacy on
- 8:25different issues that happens um all the
- 8:28time uh and and so that really benefits
- 8:30a lot of players and and where it used
- 8:32to be a popping up a political team once
- 8:35you know every presidential cycle there
- 8:38it's now much more common that you've
- 8:39got political teams or dedicated
- 8:41resources across um platforms especially
- 8:44but to a lesser degree Publishers um who
- 8:47are doing that you know throughout the
- 8:49year and where it's it's actually
- 8:50somebody's job um but uh but yes the all
- 8:54the down ballot measures and and the
- 8:56other measures certainly should should
- 8:59uh uh I think it's already starting to
- 9:01benefit those just because of again
- 9:03higher sell through uh in different
- 9:05spots and uh and the concentration on
- 9:07CTV so um it it is a a much bigger
- 9:12opportunity for more players um for the
- 9:14players that are in it at least okay
- 9:17let's change directions a little bit
- 9:19away from political and talk about how
- 9:21two other trends that you identify might
- 9:24interact and one thing that you call out
- 9:26in your post is the rise of retail media
- 9:29networks which is is to be fair has been
- 9:31a trend for a couple of years now but
- 9:33it's really sort of peing the the other
- 9:36Trend that we know as occurring is uh
- 9:39privacy more potentially privacy
- 9:42headwinds for the industry particularly
- 9:44with Google third party cookie
- 9:46deprecation and the the reason I'm
- 9:48interested in this interaction is that
- 9:51retail media networks have you some
- 9:54particularly interesting data that
- 9:56they're always trying to leverage and of
- 9:57course they're going to be able to
- 9:58leverage it on their own and operated
- 10:00sites but as we think about their
- 10:02ability to leverage and extend it to
- 10:05other thirdparty sites the the Privacy
- 10:08could be a headwind to them being
- 10:10successful how do you see this
- 10:12interaction playing
- 10:13out so certainly those two things are
- 10:17absolutely related um because of of the
- 10:20push towards privacy that has driven
- 10:22this growth in retail Media or Commerce
- 10:24media networks um it certainly started
- 10:27as with retailers but really anybody
- 10:30who's got first Party Loyalty data um
- 10:32which you know travel Finance you know
- 10:35any vertical that's got loyalty data is
- 10:37is exploring this
- 10:40space um so it is it is absolutely one
- 10:42of the uh as you say not new but a a
- 10:46newer area of focus uh and priority for
- 10:49the industry because of the Privacy um
- 10:52uh shifts in privacy that have come from
- 10:56Google and apple as well as governments
- 10:58themselves
- 11:00um so you know you've got maybe to take
- 11:04a step back you've got players like
- 11:05Target who have been doing this for many
- 11:07years um but you've also got new
- 11:10retailers um and and again different
- 11:13categories Finance travel and others who
- 11:15have this first party data that are
- 11:16really getting into the space so uh
- 11:19Marriott and Chase have been very public
- 11:21about their their um entry here um Home
- 11:25Depot as well and we are certainly going
- 11:27to be seeing more of these in the coming
- 11:29months um and uh to the point on privacy
- 11:35what they usually do what we typically
- 11:36see is that they'll start uh uh with a
- 11:40white glove solution where they they'll
- 11:42go and and have a managed IO uh solution
- 11:46so that uh the retailer and the data
- 11:49owner starts to get comfortable as well
- 11:51with uh how does this work what are the
- 11:54demands how can we protect our ourselves
- 11:56and our users and our data and then over
- 11:59time uh they figure out what makes sense
- 12:02for them you know obviously what is you
- 12:05know what what is within the bounds of
- 12:07of um the laws and the policies that
- 12:09exist today as well as where they're
- 12:11going um but in a lot of cases I mean in
- 12:14all cases really they're they're very
- 12:16they're responsible data owners their
- 12:18relationship with their customer is
- 12:19really important to them so if they're
- 12:21going to leverage that and monetize it
- 12:23in a new way it's really critical to
- 12:25them that they be transparent about it
- 12:28um and that they be
- 12:29following both the letter and the spirit
- 12:31of of the law and the the shift to to
- 12:35privacy so um they're absolutely related
- 12:39they are um continuing to grow and I
- 12:42think that's going to to continue but
- 12:45the the mechanisms to do it and to to uh
- 12:48be respectful of the user and to really
- 12:51govern that data correctly uh they do
- 12:53all exist and it just takes usually a
- 12:56little bit of time to figure out what
- 12:57the right Solutions are each of those
- 12:59scenarios to make sure that everybody
- 13:01gets it right let me extend on that and
- 13:04ask you question where you may just need
- 13:05to completely speculate but the
- 13:07companies that you mentioned that have a
- 13:09retail media Network up and running
- 13:12they're committed they're all in and
- 13:13they're just going to be like trying to
- 13:15work out how to minimize some of the
- 13:17challenges from these privacy headwinds
- 13:19do you believe that there are now a
- 13:22number who uh had planned to start
- 13:25retail media networks but hadn't
- 13:27necessarily got to SC scale who would be
- 13:30looking at the current environment and
- 13:32sort of re-evaluating their plans second
- 13:35guessing whether it's really worth the
- 13:37commitment given these
- 13:39headwinds yes there are absolutely
- 13:42examples um I don't want to name and
- 13:44shame anybody but but absolutely you
- 13:46know what you described is has happened
- 13:49and uh I was talking to a friend who had
- 13:51worked for one of these these companies
- 13:54that had dipped their toe in hadn't
- 13:57really fleshed out the whole thing got a
- 14:00little bit skittish and pulled back and
- 14:02when she went to work for another
- 14:04platform new went and explored exactly
- 14:07said hey here's what we did wrong before
- 14:08how have you solved these problems and
- 14:11didn't want to go join another one of
- 14:14these plays uh without being satisfied
- 14:16that they really were set up for Success
- 14:18so that has absolutely happened um and
- 14:20it's sort of to the point of you really
- 14:22need to make sure you get it right you
- 14:24want to be doing right by your customers
- 14:26you want to make sure the opportunity is
- 14:28worth all of the time and effort um uh
- 14:31but what we're seeing is that people are
- 14:34really finding that it is worth the
- 14:35effort advertisers are interested in
- 14:37these audiences and these opportunities
- 14:40um and they're willing to go through the
- 14:41hurdles because the data is really high
- 14:43quality and you can you can really Drive
- 14:45meaningful outcomes with it so um I
- 14:48think all the folks who who you know
- 14:50classic question in a big company what's
- 14:52different this time uh but I think
- 14:54there's a lot of there's a lot of data
- 14:55points now and and that we'll should
- 14:58endure that show that it is different
- 15:00and that there is a path from here to
- 15:02there and so I think we'll continue to
- 15:03see more folks who who may have pulled
- 15:05back get back into it I'm I'm interested
- 15:08in that because that was that quation
- 15:10that question for me was pure
- 15:12speculation I didn't realize you'd have
- 15:14specific example so thank you um one
- 15:17other area I want to get into the
- 15:19intersection of two trends that you
- 15:21identify is that you you say m&a is back
- 15:24and you point to to some examples and
- 15:26obviously this a different trend is the
- 15:29rise of AI you can't have a conversation
- 15:31these days without talking about how a
- 15:33specific part of our business might be
- 15:35impacted positively or negatively by AI
- 15:39but as you think about that if you're if
- 15:41I'm a major publisher and adtech firm
- 15:43and I'm thinking about my AI strategy I
- 15:47expect the executive teams are under a
- 15:50lot of pressure from their board or
- 15:52their owners or who basically whoever's
- 15:55in position to ask them questions around
- 15:57what is your AI strategy
- 15:59and I think a few of them may have been
- 16:02unprepared and so they're trying to play
- 16:03catchup and so they may be looking at
- 16:06Acquisitions to basically say yeah look
- 16:09look I'm doing things in AI now and so I
- 16:12always worry when I see a dynamic like
- 16:14that that uh when I see companies under
- 16:17pressure to do Acquisitions in a catchup
- 16:19type of mode that um they could be
- 16:22pretty poor Acquisitions there might not
- 16:24be a good path for integration and that
- 16:27it's actually uh can lead to a somewhat
- 16:29problematic environment for the industry
- 16:32so I guess the first question is you
- 16:34know I'm making a pretty strong
- 16:35assertion that this could actually be
- 16:37problematic how how do you see this
- 16:39playing
- 16:40out I mean look it didn't take AI for
- 16:43companies to make bad choices and poor
- 16:46Acquisitions um but certainly it it has
- 16:49added pressure there so absolutely yes
- 16:52that that uh uh can happen and you know
- 16:56I arguably probably has happened but
- 17:00time will tell because it's both the
- 17:01acquisition but as you you you talked
- 17:03about integration I think that's an an
- 17:06often a an underinvested area and it's
- 17:09one that we do help companies with um
- 17:12because you you want to really get the
- 17:14the most for your money when you um
- 17:16after you go and and do all that you
- 17:18know all that due diligence so um you
- 17:22know I think with any m&a decision you
- 17:24need to go back to First principles what
- 17:26are we trying to achieve how does this
- 17:28play out where is this fit and then um
- 17:31you also need to make sure that the
- 17:32incentives for the leaders are the right
- 17:34ones I mean often I think that's where
- 17:36it goes off off uh where where things
- 17:40get lost is that um you know leaders are
- 17:45incentivized to do a certain number of
- 17:46Acquisitions and so they're just trying
- 17:48to hit their target and it doesn't
- 17:49matter if it's a good one or the leaders
- 17:52need to check an AI box and and again
- 17:54might not matter if it's the right one
- 17:56so really looking for what what are the
- 17:59the problems we're trying to solve and
- 18:01you know if AI is one of them then then
- 18:04finding the right acquisition or the
- 18:06right way to to check that box um but
- 18:10that that risk is absolutely there but I
- 18:12don't know that it's any more present
- 18:14because of AI than than it might have
- 18:15been with with any of the other previous
- 18:18Trends let's talk about where AI has the
- 18:22most potential to positively impact the
- 18:25business and there's a the Continuum in
- 18:28terms of you know content generation I
- 18:30saw that Yahoo recently acquired a AI
- 18:33News company there's sort of um the
- 18:37ability to positively impact ad creative
- 18:41there's the ability to impact data and
- 18:43analytics I guess two different
- 18:45questions related to that one where do
- 18:47you see the most ability for AI to have
- 18:49a positive impact and then looping back
- 18:52to what we just discussed on the merges
- 18:53and acquisition side in the short term
- 18:57is that the same place where we might
- 18:58expect to see m&a
- 19:01activity um so I think there's you know
- 19:05you point to those two
- 19:07sides I I almost think of the content
- 19:10content generation I think of it both in
- 19:12terms of you know creating news articles
- 19:14for example as well as creative I would
- 19:16put both of those things in the same
- 19:17bucket um I you know there is a lot
- 19:20there in a lot of ways I think of that
- 19:21as smoothing workflow or accelerating
- 19:24workflow so you know hopefully we won't
- 19:26see a ton of AI generated articles per
- 19:30se but testing headlines I think is a
- 19:32really good example of AI saying hey
- 19:36here's I read the article and here's
- 19:37five potential headlines then having a
- 19:39human go and and say I think this is the
- 19:41best one or maybe even the AI takes it a
- 19:44step further and does a little bucket
- 19:46test and a little bit of AB testing of
- 19:48the top five headlines and says you know
- 19:50I came up with these five and here are
- 19:52the two that tested the best um so I
- 19:55think that um will help Drive engagement
- 19:59um you know creative is kind of a
- 20:01similar version of that of like which of
- 20:02these does the does the blue or the pink
- 20:04background work better um so I think
- 20:07those can help improve the user
- 20:09experience and the engagement on the
- 20:10site but when you talk about
- 20:12monetization it's really the U the
- 20:15algorithmic side of things that that
- 20:17really scale things whether it's cookus
- 20:19targeting Solutions or uh you know ml
- 20:23optimization or planning or measurement
- 20:26Solutions I think those things really
- 20:28can scale the business in a way that
- 20:30nothing else can and you know and and
- 20:33you know let's be clear um adtech has
- 20:36been has been using machine learning and
- 20:37other kinds of AI for since pretty much
- 20:40the beginning it was always about the
- 20:42automated buying and selling of ads so
- 20:44um you know I think more than a lot of
- 20:46other Industries we've all got um a
- 20:50strong base in what is AI and where can
- 20:52it benefit our business and um but in
- 20:55again from a monetization perspective I
- 20:57think it's going to be really leaning
- 20:59into some of those um you know automated
- 21:02algorithms that can scale the
- 21:05monetization um and you know because one
- 21:08cent CPM on a publisher uh can really
- 21:10make a big difference as you know um and
- 21:12I see that coming more from the algo
- 21:14side than from the necessarily the
- 21:16creative side but could be both but uh
- 21:19so staying on that point in terms of how
- 21:22disruptive AI might be is this a case of
- 21:26it's just an evolution as you pointed
- 21:28out adtech always had machine learning
- 21:31and this is just the next iteration so
- 21:33it's it's a r yes there's going to be
- 21:35improvements but they're predictable and
- 21:38business will continue as usual or is
- 21:40this a case of true Revolution where
- 21:42there's going to be some kind of Step
- 21:44function and within 18 months couple of
- 21:47years the industry won't look like the
- 21:49industry looks now where do where do you
- 21:52come out on on that
- 21:55Continuum uh I mean certainly the
- 21:57industry won't look like it does because
- 21:58there's so many things that have changed
- 22:00so um you know privacy being the single
- 22:03biggest one but I think AI is going to
- 22:06between privacy and AI is going to force
- 22:08us to think about how we do business
- 22:10differently and uh so it's it's a number
- 22:14of different things coming together but
- 22:16you know what's the same is that
- 22:19advertising was always about getting the
- 22:20right ad to the right person at the
- 22:22right time and what technology has done
- 22:24over over all this time is to to make
- 22:27that more true and more accurate and
- 22:30more valuable hopefully and I think that
- 22:33we will certainly see an acceleration
- 22:35that would be my prediction that uh that
- 22:38that the ads become more valuable um and
- 22:41that the user experiences hopefully will
- 22:42will follow as well okay thank you if if
- 22:46you think through the market trends that
- 22:49that you've identified either we've
- 22:51talked about today or or or others that
- 22:53are in the list that you've identified
- 22:56which do you think what the biggest
- 22:58impact on your clients or to put it
- 23:00another way what are they either most
- 23:02scared by or most excited by so I'll
- 23:06call out a few things the the the areas
- 23:09of EXC you for a ranking though if you
- 23:11if you do a few things sure fair enough
- 23:13fair enough um so I mean listen the the
- 23:16things the areas of excitement really
- 23:18are around the areas of growth and the
- 23:20two there are two double digigit areas
- 23:22of growth in adtech right now that are
- 23:24CTV and Retail media for a number of
- 23:27different reasons some of we talked
- 23:29about so everybody's excited about
- 23:31CTV um and it's been really uh you know
- 23:36I feel like my whole career in adtech
- 23:38which as you said decades at this point
- 23:40we've been talking about the share shift
- 23:42of TV dollars and we've really seen that
- 23:44happen and that's manifested itself in a
- 23:46number of different ways and I've been
- 23:48really I don't want to say surprised but
- 23:51it's been very noticeable the extent to
- 23:53which um relatively late entrance or
- 23:57call them recent entrance to CTV are
- 23:59really able to go and carve themselves a
- 24:01market position and to H gain meaningful
- 24:04share and win important Publishers so I
- 24:06think that's that's an area that people
- 24:08are interested in they're innovating in
- 24:10and that Innovation is really driving um
- 24:12opportunity growth and and powering an
- 24:15emerging set of players retail media uh
- 24:19in this current iteration of retail
- 24:20media that started in the last two or
- 24:23three years um where I think it still
- 24:26hasn't played out yet but that's another
- 24:28one where the data is really powerful uh
- 24:31it's it was good data always and in the
- 24:33first place and now it's uh becoming
- 24:36available to be activated by more
- 24:38players and so there's an opportunity to
- 24:40innovate there um and and folks are
- 24:43trying to really do a lot to uh to
- 24:45attach themselves to that so I would say
- 24:46those are the the two big ones um and
- 24:51and then the third one which I the third
- 24:54rank but the third one that's come about
- 24:57um that's become really popular again is
- 24:59curation so this is data plus media and
- 25:03a PMP which is not a new idea but it's
- 25:07um you know as different
- 25:10buyers PMP just for those who aren't
- 25:12familiar private Marketplace like a deal
- 25:14ID y
- 25:16yeah um yes good call good call out
- 25:19there um uh so this is this is one where
- 25:24um uh more buyers are really interested
- 25:26in having that I I describe described it
- 25:28as a ready to serve meal they're they're
- 25:31looking to simplify a lot of other
- 25:33complexities um of the buying and
- 25:35they're doing it this curation uh has
- 25:37really taken a big upswing in the last
- 25:39couple of years there's a lot of net new
- 25:41and unique spend that are coming that's
- 25:43coming into the market with it and
- 25:45there's a lot of players um as recently
- 25:48as this year who have launched curation
- 25:50platforms so I think that's a really
- 25:53interesting Trend that you know as
- 25:55people work through all the complexities
- 25:57of the market and all the eer areas um
- 25:59they're also looking to uh to to find
- 26:02some Simplicity and curation is one of
- 26:04those Trends as well um and on the flip
- 26:08side what are they worried about I mean
- 26:10there people are worried about privacy
- 26:12there's apprehensions because there's so
- 26:14many unknowns um there's you know we
- 26:17don't know what all of the implications
- 26:19for the buyers and the sellers are going
- 26:20to be the Privacy sandbox uh apis are
- 26:24are not even finalized at this point so
- 26:26even though it's something that that
- 26:27will living with um in the next six
- 26:31months it's not something where the
- 26:32standard is even finalized yet so a lot
- 26:35of unknowns um and a lot of you know how
- 26:38how does this evolve how does this
- 26:39impact us um but there's there's really
- 26:43nobody who that I've talked to who
- 26:45thinks that we're not going to figure it
- 26:46out so I think that's also something
- 26:48that you know I like about this industry
- 26:50in the space people people aren't scared
- 26:52of change and they're not scared about
- 26:55finding new Solutions and and I think
- 26:56that's something that's that that's
- 26:58interesting and that's exciting for the
- 26:59future you know as we look at all these
- 27:01areas that are clearly areas of
- 27:03opportunity and growth also brilliant
- 27:06and uh yeah I always ask myself why do I
- 27:08keep coming back to this industry and as
- 27:10you say there's a degree of optimism
- 27:12because there are always challenges but
- 27:14people always seem to find a way in the
- 27:15space and I would love that I really
- 27:18appreciate you taking the time Greg
- 27:20thank you so much for for the time today
- 27:22all right thanks James great talking to
- 27:24you
