- 0:00Welcome to Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:02Hello, I'm that Michelle chick. And I'm Rick.
- 0:04Welcome. OK, so there was a comment on
- 0:09our spot. Hang on.
- 0:15OK. OK, I yeah, hang on.
- 0:17I'm going. To kick some dogs out.
- 0:21All right, here we go. I'm ready.
- 0:22Now, OK, OK, OK, back to the comment we received on our
- 0:26Spotify. So it was for the episode titled
- 0:30Snacks. We mourn tears We shed and a
- 0:33tiny tenant with big bills in that in that episode we
- 0:37discussed foods that we missed and would like to see make a
- 0:40comeback. Well, Robert, who was a listener
- 0:43of our morning show back when we did it, he commented and he said
- 0:48that he misses butter horns. Sambo's in Lewiston, ID as a
- 0:53kid, the best. And I of course, have no idea
- 0:56what he's talking about, but you do so.
- 0:59So, so you're talking, you're talking about the Sambo's
- 1:01restaurant? I I'm assuming I.
- 1:04Yeah, so, so interesting. So Sambo's which was is not
- 1:09politically correct, OK, Because they had a little Oh yeah.
- 1:12Would not, It had a, it had a tiger.
- 1:15It had a tiger and then it had a little black boy as it's mascot.
- 1:20So Sambo's was not at the time politically correct or at the
- 1:23time maybe politically correct. Not today.
- 1:25So Sambo's used to be right there on Main Street.
- 1:27So I had talked in a in a previous podcast to where I had
- 1:32been a waiter and I'd been a cook and a dishwasher at Pioneer
- 1:35Pies, which was a franchise that was in Spokane.
- 1:39I think it was one in Yakima made too, right?
- 1:41Pioneer Pies. So these, yeah, these Pioneer
- 1:45Pies had taken over the old Sambo's restaurant.
- 1:47So, so in downtown Main Street, downtown Lewiston, where this
- 1:51Sambo's was located at was actually where Pioneer Pies was,
- 1:54where I was actually a cook and a waiter and busboy and all that
- 1:58in high school. So I, I'm now as a kid, it was
- 2:01Sambo's. And so you could think of a
- 2:03Sambo's as Sherry's basically Denny's or Sherry's kind of kind
- 2:07of that kind of restaurant, but not politically correct.
- 2:10Like Family Diner. It's a family diner.
- 2:12Kind of thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:13And you should, Yep, you should pull up.
- 2:16You should pull up Sambo's and say yeah, Sambo's restaurants
- 2:20and go whoa, what? Yeah.
- 2:22It was just a perfect it was a perfectly normal day in 1970.
- 2:27Right. But did Andy was talking about
- 2:29the butter horns? Mm, hmm.
- 2:31Yeah, yeah, it's it's, I miss butter horns, so I'm assuming
- 2:35it's something from the sambo's, Yeah.
- 2:37Yeah, but they still make butter horns.
- 2:39You find them. You they do make butter horns.
- 2:41You can find them in the store is.
- 2:43This a different version of it or a better?
- 2:46It's like a bear claw. Right, yeah I know what a butter
- 2:49horn is, but I'm assuming like they were better from Sambo.
- 2:52Probably were I I'm making the assumption they they were
- 2:54homemade and not store bought. You know, and then, and then of
- 2:57course, if you're gonna have a butter horn, you got to smother
- 2:59that bad boy with butter. Yes.
- 3:02You know, and you can do it and you can.
- 3:04I would have coffee with mine, you would not.
- 3:05Yeah, it's delete. Yeah, but and then and then you
- 3:07microwave it where the butter just oozes.
- 3:09I mean, it's. Yeah, I'm all for that.
- 3:12I'm all for it, Robert and Sambo's.
- 3:13I definitely know where Sambo's is.
- 3:15And it was Sambo's when I was a kid, before it became Pioneer
- 3:17Pies. So I know exactly what I know
- 3:19exactly what he's talking about. OK, And a big thank you to
- 3:22Robert for listening to our podcast.
- 3:24Someone did. Someone did.
- 3:27My goodness. OK, I'm going to hang on a
- 3:28second. Hang on, there's one.
- 3:31One listener in our analytics. Oh, and then I found something
- 3:36that I'll show you towards the end of this podcast.
- 3:39Hopefully we don't run long today.
- 3:42So I've been sorting through our storage unit, which mind you, we
- 3:46have two storage units, but the second one is full of a lot of,
- 3:48you know, my dad's stuff, furniture, that kind of thing.
- 3:52But the first storage unit is full of basically our kids shit
- 3:57and I've been trying to organize everything and then put those
- 4:00little QR code labels on it. Do you know what that is?
- 4:04So you yeah, yeah, you can put the little QR code and then you
- 4:08take a picture and then you can describe what's in it anyway.
- 4:12Yes, so I'm trying to get all organized.
- 4:14OK, this is taking me like this is what my second week working
- 4:17on this like this because we have the largest storage unit
- 4:21available. Both of them are the biggest one
- 4:23that you all has. I don't know what the dimensions
- 4:25are but so anyway I have been going through stuff and I found
- 4:31a gem of you and I that I will show.
- 4:35Towards. The end of the podcast, which I
- 4:38didn't even. I think I've got I think I've
- 4:41got if I if I go look in my if I go look in my storage unit, I
- 4:45don't have a lot, but I think I've got photos of danger boy in
- 4:49the doghouse. So there.
- 4:52So there's I have to yeah, they're it's very deep in there.
- 4:55I think that they did a newspaper article about when we
- 4:59did back-to-back for Backstreet Boys.
- 5:02So there's a newspaper article about that from the Yakima
- 5:04Herald. So I've got a little, I've got a
- 5:06couple little things and there is some, there is some photos
- 5:09that and it's you and I, it's you and I.
- 5:12There's the doghouse danger boys in the doghouse.
- 5:14We're leaning on the doghouse. I'm in a like a blue shirt, a
- 5:17tie, weird. And and then you're wearing the
- 5:20back of the day. We had the white 107 shirts,
- 5:23yes, which I. Found those too.
- 5:25That has kind of like the Aqua KFFM look logos.
- 5:30Yep, Yep, I have one of those I found.
- 5:32I bet you do. Yeah, I don't.
- 5:34Yeah, I don't have mine anymore, but I but yes, it's a it's a
- 5:37classic. Yep, and then I have the picture
- 5:39of us with the 98°. Oh yeah.
- 5:42And Logan's in it. And Logan's in it too.
- 5:44I've got that. I think, I think that was
- 5:46actually on my Facebook. I may have that hidden on my
- 5:48Facebook somewhere in old pictures or whatever.
- 5:51But yeah, Logan, yeah, he's just a little guy.
- 5:52She's just a little guy, yeah. But.
- 5:55I mean, the big thing about 98°, not that it's 98°, Nick Lachey's
- 5:58in there. So that, yeah, it's the same
- 6:00thing as I always talk about *NSYNC.
- 6:01It's like, it's not that we met *NSYNC.
- 6:03Oh, we met Justin Timberlake. That's right.
- 6:06I, I couldn't, I mean, you know, I can't name the other.
- 6:10The answer is 98° nobody I. Remember.
- 6:13Yeah. No, it's Nick Lachey.
- 6:14So yeah. Yeah, and his brother, which I
- 6:17don't. Remember Drew?
- 6:19It's Drew. Yeah, isn't it?
- 6:20Drew Lachey, I think. He's the brother.
- 6:22Yeah, Yeah. Anyway, which I don't know about
- 6:25you, but kind of given our childhoods, once I hit middle
- 6:30school, like I started saving all my stuff because I had
- 6:35control over that. My mom got rid of like my
- 6:38favorite yellow dress and my Tutu.
- 6:41And so now I think like, I've overreacted because of that.
- 6:46And I've saved like all this stuff from my kids.
- 6:50Like, like they're gonna, when I die, they're gonna sort through
- 6:53this shit and be like, what? What?
- 6:56Why did? Why did this?
- 6:58Why did this bitch gave this like, like what is going on?
- 7:02So I'm curious if because of our childhoods that maybe especially
- 7:07yours being bounced around a lot more, do you find that that's
- 7:12kind of like something that you notice that you do now because.
- 7:16Yeah, well, I don't, I wouldn't, I, I would never, I would never
- 7:19call it hoarding. I would.
- 7:20It would definitely not be hoarding.
- 7:21But but and I know that Pokémon. First wife, I'm organizing my
- 7:26hoard, so does that make it not hoarding?
- 7:28It might make well, you're QR and you're putting QR codes on
- 7:31your crap. So that I think that's, I think
- 7:34that's hoarding, but so pokey purged a lot through the years.
- 7:39And then Megan is definitely one of those people who if she could
- 7:43purge anything of mine, she'd purge it.
- 7:44So I have some I don't have a lot because.
- 7:47And, and as a kid we did move around a lot.
- 7:50Yeah, through the foster care system.
- 7:52So I talk about it in my book, which of course there's my
- 7:55shameless plug for my book. The one thing is when we had a
- 7:59house fire in fifth grade was that blue ribbon for my dog Joe
- 8:03is the one thing. If there's anything I, I've ever
- 8:06said, oh, I wish I had that back, is if there's a blue
- 8:10ribbon for my dog and that was from 5th grade or I'm sorry,
- 8:14when I was a little kid and that burns up in fifth grade.
- 8:16And then when I, so I went to this phase before I met girls,
- 8:22before I met girls. So I went to this phase from
- 8:25like when I was a freshman to I was a sophomore and I used to
- 8:28write and draw my own comic books, like like religious, like
- 8:31religiously like it was, that's what I did.
- 8:34And so I had like 33 issues of a particular issue that I had, I
- 8:37had written and drawn. And, and So what happened was in
- 8:43between the moving of high school and college, it was in
- 8:46the back of my Chevy Vega and my Chevy Vega, I rolled it, I
- 8:50rolled it. So it ended up getting towed
- 8:52away and I just never went and got my stuff out of it.
- 8:54So I lost a lot. I if I those are things I wish I
- 8:58could have had back because they were in the they were in the
- 9:00trunk, basically. Right.
- 9:02So and so and my memory is, my memory is fading the older I
- 9:06get. So there are certain things,
- 9:08yeah, there's certain things I wish that I that I had kept.
- 9:12And so I have now from now, from 18 on up, I don't have a lot,
- 9:17but I do because I'm an adult and I and I have more of those
- 9:22different things, especially Logan.
- 9:24Once Logan came into the picture, I've got all of Logan's
- 9:26babies, pick baby pictures, the baby book, even some shoes from
- 9:31Logan different. Anything that concerned Logan
- 9:33more. So I definitely have more of
- 9:35Logan than myself. Yes, but but when my mom, it was
- 9:38interesting when my mom passed away, she did have some stuff
- 9:40that I I didn't have. So she had my birth
- 9:42announcement. I would.
- 9:44Yeah. I didn't realize I'd weighed 4
- 9:46lbs. Yeah, that's small.
- 9:48Yeah, so there was a couple things that she had said that
- 9:51was in her stuff that I was able to get, that it was kind of cool
- 9:54to get that stuff. And then for my book, what
- 9:58really made me want to write the book was my foster sister had
- 10:01found a bunch of pictures and I had not seen those pictures like
- 10:05ever. And that's what spurred me to
- 10:07write the book because she had pictures for my childhood that
- 10:10I'm like, okay, you need to write this book now.
- 10:12So I wish I had a lot. Do you have a lot of childhood
- 10:16pictures? I don't have a lot of childhood.
- 10:17Pictures. I do have a lot of.
- 10:19Thankfully I do have a lot of childhood pictures, but just I
- 10:23have a few baby clothes and my baby book and that's about it
- 10:27until I hit probably until again, like I had control over
- 10:31my stuff and my mom couldn't just get rid of it or whatever.
- 10:35And so that probably started about middle school.
- 10:38I do have all of my My Little Pony collection and the houses
- 10:44and I organized that and I took a picture of the containers and
- 10:48sent it. We have a group chat with us and
- 10:50our kids and I sent it to them and said this is your
- 10:53inheritance. Yeah, there you go, My Little
- 10:55Pony collection. Yes.
- 10:57So I do thankfully have all of that.
- 11:00Not that it is going to be worth anything.
- 11:03Like it's not new in boxes. I played with it like it's been
- 11:07used. Yeah.
- 11:09I wouldn't even let Shaylee play with him.
- 11:11Yeah. And she's a little bit, I think
- 11:14bent about that still to this day.
- 11:15And she's 18 now. So she's, she's going.
- 11:17To inherit the My Little Pony. I mean, I guess it's not, as
- 11:20you've seen the crazy stories back in the Beanie.
- 11:23Was it Beanie Baby craze? Yes.
- 11:25To where they showed a photo of people getting divorces and
- 11:28there's a judge and they're sitting there separating.
- 11:30Beanie Babies each Beanie Baby. Yeah.
- 11:32What the what the I No, I will. Yeah.
- 11:35Oh, go ahead. Are you a Beanie Baby?
- 11:37No, but we when my grandma passed away, my mom gave Shaylee
- 11:44the my grandma had the purple Princess Diana, Beanie Baby
- 11:49Bear. That was like worth.
- 11:51But this is like, this is not the first Gen. or whatever
- 11:55generation Generation. Yeah, this is like the second
- 11:58one. So it's not worth as much money.
- 12:00But I googled it because I thought it was the first Gen.
- 12:04I didn't know there was more than one round made.
- 12:07And so I Googled it and I'm going, oh, even the second gent
- 12:10is worth probably about 5 grand. And so that thing is like,
- 12:15protected. That one's put away, Yeah.
- 12:17Yeah, that was the one, the one thing nice about not it was
- 12:21funny when I was a kid, I did not take care of my comic books
- 12:23like I take care of my comic books now.
- 12:25But that's the one thing that that pokey when we got divorced,
- 12:29she did not take any any of the comic books or any of the
- 12:33valuable comic books. So, yeah, so I mean, so that's
- 12:37what I'm passing on to Logan. And it's funny.
- 12:40I wanted Logan to have the enthusiasm because, you know, he
- 12:43know, I mean, he grew up around comic books.
- 12:46But it's funny is like, like if I got the first appearance of
- 12:49the Silver Surfer or the first appearance of Daredevil or
- 12:52whatever, I get excited about it.
- 12:53I really don't share it with anybody.
- 12:55And so one day I was like, well, I said Logan, don't you want to
- 12:58know what you've got? And being Logan, he goes, oh,
- 13:01Dad, there's the Internet. So.
- 13:04So instead of me, instead of me being able to sit down with him
- 13:07and go, hey, look at this. Here's the first.
- 13:09Here's a Deadpool, here's the first.
- 13:11Yeah, all of that. He's like, yeah, yeah.
- 13:14They have this thing called the Internet.
- 13:15If I want to know what if I want to know what I got, I'll just
- 13:17look it up. Do you have them all cataloged
- 13:19and and like alphabetical? All of them.
- 13:22So yeah, so there are, there are programs.
- 13:26So there's a program called Key Collector and ZAP Kapow.
- 13:29So I have about 4000 cataloged. So mainly, so mainly, I mean,
- 13:36again, comics are only worth what someone's willing to pay
- 13:39for a comic book. So even though a book might say
- 13:41it's worth $3000, if someone's only going to give you a couple
- 13:44100 bucks and it really is worth a couple 100 bucks, same as any
- 13:47collectible. So, but, but I do have they're
- 13:52called key issues. So like like you said, the first
- 13:54appearance of Daredevil or the first appearance of Deadpool,
- 13:56any of that stuff. So I do have those catalogs key
- 13:59issue wise. And then as a collector, it's
- 14:02like, yeah, I mean, when it comes to comic books, not to
- 14:05bore everybody, but it really is.
- 14:07And same with same as you were talking about the My Little
- 14:09Pony. In any collectible, it's the
- 14:11condition that really matters. It needs to be new in box.
- 14:15And right mints in boxes from a from a action figure collectible
- 14:19and all those different things. And so I've, I've got some
- 14:22really nice books that, you know, could, could fetch some
- 14:25good money, but I don't have anything.
- 14:28So I definitely, I would never financially put myself at risk
- 14:33ever when buying a comic book. So, so all my comic books that I
- 14:37own are comic books I could afford to own and that I was
- 14:41willing to and that I was willing to take a risk on or buy
- 14:44so. $1,000,000 yeah. Superman.
- 14:47So yeah. So in my collection, I don't, I
- 14:49don't. I mean, even though I'd love to
- 14:51have an amazing fantasy #15 the first appearance of Spider Man
- 14:54or Spider man #1 if those are so far out of my, my reach, I mean,
- 14:58these are 10. These are 10 to $12,000 even in
- 15:00the worst conditions. So yeah.
- 15:03So it's like I, I would never, I just wouldn't even do it today
- 15:08if someone walked in right now said, hey, here's a Spider man
- 15:10number one $12,000. I could not.
- 15:14I would not feel comfortable purchasing that.
- 15:17Right, even though you would love to have it as part of.
- 15:19Your, I'd love to have it. I'd love to have it.
- 15:20So, So yeah. So for me, once we start getting
- 15:24to I guess I don't know what my number is on what I would be
- 15:29presented, but for me, anything above 600 bucks, I'm like, OK,
- 15:33too, too rich for my blood. So but luckily, I mean, I have
- 15:37AI do have a lot of books that I bought at a great price that are
- 15:40worth thousands each, right. So that's the nice thing is I
- 15:43did buy books. It was so funny, hilarious story
- 15:47and not to stay on comic books, but the hilarious story was my
- 15:50buddy Kurt in high school. So my buddy Kurt in junior high
- 15:54and high school, his parents had money.
- 15:57So he I went to the comic book store every Wednesday when
- 16:01comics came out and I was so jealous because his wall and
- 16:04when we were in junior high, his walls were just full of comic
- 16:08books like on the wall, like all pinned up.
- 16:11I was so jealous of him. And so he had the giant size
- 16:14X-Men, which is a very which is a very collectible comic book,
- 16:17very famous from 1975. First, it's the first appearance
- 16:21of the the new X-Men and Wolverines like third
- 16:24appearance. So I, I admired that book in
- 16:28junior high and I remember when we were that graduated high
- 16:31school, so funny. He calls me out of the blue and
- 16:34he goes, hey, dude, he goes, I just need some cash.
- 16:36And I said, he goes, I'll show you my giant size X-Men.
- 16:39And so I said, I said, I said, well, I can give you 50 bucks
- 16:42for it goes yeah, yeah, that works.
- 16:44So he dropped it off. I gave him 50 bucks for the
- 16:46book. So I have a giant, I do have a
- 16:48giant size X-Men, which is like it's one of the the grails that
- 16:51people want. And years later, I ran into Kurt
- 16:55in Seattle and he's like, yeah, he goes, man.
- 16:56He goes. My biggest regret was ever
- 16:58selling my giant size X-Men because I don't even know who
- 17:00has it. He doesn't.
- 17:02Even know. He's so and I said I've got it,
- 17:06I bought it, he goes. I would not have said it.
- 17:08I would have said I don't know, I.
- 17:10Don't know, It was funny, he goes.
- 17:11He had. He had not.
- 17:11He'd forgotten that. He had sold it.
- 17:13He goes. Oh, at least it was you, you
- 17:14know, so I. Mean I'd be thinking, did he
- 17:17need money for drugs? No, not at all.
- 17:20He wasn't like that. So I don't I, I.
- 17:22Mean he can't remember, Yeah. I mean, and I don't even think
- 17:26that even today he collects calm.
- 17:27It's not his thing. I mean, it was, it was don't.
- 17:30He, when he was younger, great. Yeah, it was, but but I was so
- 17:34jealous that he had had, you know, his mom and dad had bought
- 17:37him basically man, he he always had comic book when he I never
- 17:40did so. But I do have that in my
- 17:42collection and and I have it graded.
- 17:44So that's one of the things you do now with comics, if you've
- 17:47got a grail, you know, same as a baseball card, different things
- 17:51like that. So yes, I've got it.
- 17:52I've got it graded. It's one of the the books that
- 17:54that that Logan will inherit. So it's got a great story behind
- 17:59it. It's a fun, yeah, it's a fun,
- 18:00it's a fun story. So, you know, and then and then
- 18:03the most I ever spent, Peter McClain, you know, from work.
- 18:08Yeah. You know, he had, he approached
- 18:10me one time years ago, maybe 5 or 6 years ago and said, hey, my
- 18:15brother and I had comic books in the 60s and they're in my
- 18:17storage unit. So he brought them in.
- 18:18Remember, they were in the shoe box.
- 18:20They were in the shoe box. And he had like 200 Silver age
- 18:24comic books, early Silver age. And so and he goes, yeah, I
- 18:28don't know what to do with them. And I said, I'll give you $5000
- 18:31right now. And and if they were now, if
- 18:34these books were meant, they'd be worth way more.
- 18:38So they were not in the best shape, but but I ended up
- 18:40getting the first Silver Surfer, first Galactus, early Spider
- 18:44man. I mean, so it was 202 hundred
- 18:47books of early Marvel. So it's kind of it's kind of the
- 18:51crown jewel of at least one of the crown jewels of my
- 18:53collection, But that I think that's the most I ever spent.
- 18:56And I literally, I, I, I just look and I think some would say
- 18:59I probably overspent back then, but I looked at him go, I'll
- 19:03give you 5000. Would you take $5000 for My
- 19:07Little Pony? No what?
- 19:11No for my My Little Pony collection.
- 19:13You would not. Do you think a dog is going to
- 19:16quiz you? Do you think it's worth more
- 19:18than that? No, it's not.
- 19:20So it's sentimental. Yes, I mean, honestly, like I
- 19:24yeah, there's no reason really to keep them anymore.
- 19:27But yeah, I just can't part. Like I said, I wouldn't even let
- 19:30Shaylee play with them. Like that's how crazy I am about
- 19:35them. Which is dumb.
- 19:36It's really dumb. The nice thing about the Peter
- 19:39situation was, I mean, they were in his storage the entire like,
- 19:42he's OK his whole life. So it wasn't like he had him and
- 19:45he wasn't, he wasn't even a comic book fan.
- 19:47I mean, within reason. And so he said so he knew what
- 19:51what I offered that, that that they were, I mean, like I still
- 19:53have them. I mean, he knew I would not sell
- 19:55them. It's not great, man.
- 19:56Now, maybe Logan once I'm dead, will sell them.
- 19:58I'm sure. But but but not but but in my
- 20:01collection. They're not going to get sold as
- 20:02part of my collection so. Right.
- 20:04I'm yeah, I'm sure my kids are going to sell all my stuff.
- 20:07They're going to be going. But but now I'm going to go QR
- 20:09code everything because you're spastic like that.
- 20:12Well, I mean. I know what I have.
- 20:15I'm trying to organize so that when I need to find something, I
- 20:18can just look and a little label catalog and find it.
- 20:21So Yep. That's there you go.
- 20:23There you go. Yeah.
- 20:24I wish I was that detail oriented.
- 20:26I am not. I mean, I do know.
- 20:28I do know what I have and where it's located for the most part.
- 20:32So if I have to get to it, I definitely.
- 20:35One thing I don't do, I mean this might be interesting, is I
- 20:38do not invite people over to my house to go through my comic
- 20:41book collection. Well, no, I mean, is that a
- 20:44game? Is that common with adults?
- 20:45No, I don't know if it's common, but I look at it like you might
- 20:48as well be cased in the joint. So I don't and and not and
- 20:52again, not that I have anything. I not that I have anything of
- 20:56value, but I've always felt that that most most crimes are inside
- 21:02jobs. Oh, definitely.
- 21:04That they know what they know what you have, or they know
- 21:06where it's located to get it. Especially if you look at all
- 21:09these celebrities getting broke into, it's usually somebody that
- 21:12knows, somebody that knows where everything is or how to get in.
- 21:16Or that's how they, that's how that's how they did.
- 21:18I remember that Pokey, when we had gotten a divorce and she had
- 21:22her own apartment in Clarkston, her brother, her, her sister
- 21:26Shelly stayed with Pokey. And I said man, I said that's
- 21:29not a good idea, Pokey, not a good idea.
- 21:31Next thing I know, Shelly, her sister, her, her adopted sister,
- 21:34half sister or whatever, took all their stuff to the pawn shop
- 21:38and, and so, and so Pokey was only able to get like 50% of
- 21:42their stuff back. But she literally loaded up
- 21:43Logan's toys, loaded up the VCR, loaded up the DVD, I mean,
- 21:47loaded up her crap. And it's like, it's, it's
- 21:50probably, I know this is, you know, I, I know my party,
- 21:52probably my family's listening to this.
- 21:54That's why you're not going to be staying with me.
- 21:56I. Mean there's good hotels.
- 21:59There's yeah, yeah, I don't. I mean, I mean, it's like I,
- 22:03it's just, I think that sometimes it's just too tempting
- 22:08now, because especially if you, if you know what you're looking
- 22:12for, like you said, a celebrity's home or you know
- 22:14what you're looking for, you know, it has to like, like if I
- 22:17come home tomorrow and all my comics are gone, I know it's an
- 22:19inside job because no one knows. They just don't know.
- 22:22I mean, they don't know what I have or what, what value.
- 22:25And so, and not that, I mean, I'd just be more upset that I
- 22:28lot, like you said, my comics have more sentimental value to
- 22:32me right than they do. Monetary.
- 22:35Yeah, yeah, again, I'm not I mean, I've never I haven't, I
- 22:39haven't sold any comic book that I own so and I don't plan to.
- 22:42So the same as the Little Pony thing, it for me and I'm sure
- 22:45the Little Pony thing is the same way and I talk about it a
- 22:47lot in my book too. Is there for me.
- 22:50That's my childhood, that's my that was my that's my shield.
- 22:53That's my protection. That's, I don't know, that's my
- 22:57blanket. I was going to say, I think for
- 22:59me, the My Little Ponies, that's like the happy part of my
- 23:03childhood. And there's not many for us.
- 23:05And so you hold on to that happiness compare, you know,
- 23:11compared to everything because it was craziness for both you
- 23:14and I. Yeah, And that's what.
- 23:16The And that's what the comic books are.
- 23:18That's what the comic books are. And so even in terms of owning
- 23:21rare or valuable comic books, yeah, I have a few of those, but
- 23:24I didn't care about the condition.
- 23:25I'd rather just own the book. Right.
- 23:28So, so like, yeah, I'd rather have it in my collection than
- 23:31than worried about, oh, how much money is this going to fetch for
- 23:34me? I need to get the best copy
- 23:36period because because and I don't have time for people like
- 23:39that because those people like that irritate me so.
- 23:42Yeah. OK, let's move on with back to
- 23:44school going on. I did notice that this year
- 23:48there is a lot more schools that are doing the no cell phones
- 23:51during school hours. And I know that one of the
- 23:56schools, they're having the kids put their phones in the is that
- 24:00the Yoder packs or whatever? Yeah, is it the?
- 24:02Is it the clear clear, the see through or or they unclip?
- 24:07Well, so I know artists are using them.
- 24:09And when I saw Garth Brooks at Caesar's Palace in Vegas just a
- 24:14few years ago, he made everyone use them.
- 24:16And they're not clear. They were just Gray.
- 24:18And you put your phone in it, and then it kind of like locks.
- 24:22And then you have it on your possession, but you can't open
- 24:25it. And then if you needed to use
- 24:27your phone during the show, you had to go out to the lobby.
- 24:30Somebody was there to unlock it, and then you could use your
- 24:33phone. And then when you were ready to
- 24:35go back in, you put it back in and they locked and you went
- 24:37back in. So I'm assuming it's the same
- 24:40kind of Yoder pack or whatever it is.
- 24:42Yeah, I think schools. Are using so.
- 24:45They are. I know.
- 24:46I know schools in Oregon are for sure.
- 24:48I don't know about necessarily Washington, but I do know there
- 24:50are some Oregon school districts that have actually bought those.
- 24:52Yoder. Yeah, yeah, which I know.
- 24:55I which as a parent, OK, I understand cell phones are a big
- 24:58distraction. They're a big problem.
- 25:01My only concern would be as a parent in an emergency, so like
- 25:06a school shooting that my kid would have immediate access to
- 25:11their cell phone. Like that would be my big
- 25:15concern is that it's locked in this Yoder pack and they're not
- 25:19going to be able to call anyone for that matter.
- 25:22So I mean, that's kind of my concern.
- 25:25I mean, I get that they're a distraction, but as a parent I I
- 25:28probably wouldn't before this policy.
- 25:31But I think and I and I hear you on that, but and I and you and I
- 25:36lived through the days where we were like Michelle, your mom's
- 25:38on the phone and they'd. Give them to the front of you.
- 25:40You'd have to go to the office, right?
- 25:41Thought you were in trouble. My, my issue more than anything
- 25:44else is so I mean, we're talking like elementary kids now have
- 25:50cell phones. Oh yeah, which my kids didn't
- 25:53get any until they were like 910 years.
- 25:55Old, but it's but it's but I I feel that the entitlement of
- 26:02like and and it's not just entitlement.
- 26:04It's a status. It's a status.
- 26:07So we're already grooming kids in first, second, third grade to
- 26:11walk in with with the Starbucks and the best cell phone, if that
- 26:16we do. That.
- 26:17We do that because because parents want parents want what
- 26:21they didn't have or what's best for their kids.
- 26:23And, and so it's, it's to me, I think it's equivalent to having
- 26:27the the best night, brand new Nikes or Air Jordans, right?
- 26:31You know, and then and so, so for me, it's like, and, and
- 26:34can't you put the I I it's AI think, I think cell phones can
- 26:39be an addiction. I think that screen time and I I
- 26:43hear what you're saying that and that is the argument a lot of
- 26:45people say medical or in case of in case of those kind of
- 26:49situations. Any type of.
- 26:50Emergency. But.
- 26:51But you. But again, you're relying on
- 26:54immature kids to not get on their phones, right.
- 26:59I mean, So what? Where.
- 27:00Yeah. Where do you draw that line?
- 27:01A teacher's up there to teach. Yeah, which again, I get that
- 27:05they are a distraction, but I would want my child to have
- 27:09access to themselves. I seen, and I seen a lot of
- 27:12parents flip out about it. Like, you know, you're not going
- 27:14to keep my kid from his phone. But I saw people flip out about
- 27:19the Garth Brooks situation. Oh yes.
- 27:21Like I'm taking my phone. Like, no, you can't, you know,
- 27:25enjoy. Enjoy the freaking show.
- 27:28And it was so nice. I do have to say, it was so nice
- 27:32to not because when you do have your phone, you're trying to
- 27:35take pictures and video which, which, how often do you go back
- 27:38through and watch these videos of the concert that you were?
- 27:41Yeah, I mean, usually you don't. You just post them on social
- 27:44media. That's why you take that.
- 27:47And I would just. Yeah, being free from that, I
- 27:49was able to just enjoy the show and be in the moment and it it
- 27:54was nice. I don't, I don't, I don't think
- 27:56we. I don't think, number one, I
- 27:57don't think we do enough of that anymore because over the weekend
- 28:00we went to see Toto Minute Work and Christopher Cross in
- 28:03Ridgefield, a great little venue, Live Nation venue.
- 28:06And, and you're right, everybody's got a cell phone out
- 28:09taking a video. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:10And, and so it's a, it's a sea of, and no one's really sitting
- 28:13there, actually sitting and enjoying like enjoying the
- 28:15music. Right.
- 28:16Paying attention, Listening. Really.
- 28:18Really. More about what video I'm gonna
- 28:20grab and put up on social media. Yeah.
- 28:23So. Definitely so, yeah.
- 28:24And so school wise, I if you could trust that kids could keep
- 28:29their hands off their phones, but I don't think you can.
- 28:32No, no younger kids. No, I could, you know, high
- 28:35school kids, they need to Start learning boundaries and to not
- 28:39be on their phone 24/7, but they should be able to put their
- 28:43phone away during class and then.
- 28:45But you have, you have 4, but you have 4 great kids.
- 28:50Not not everybody's got 4 great kids or one great kid or two or
- 28:54three great kids. You've got you've got some
- 28:56really entitled. Oh, yes, Shaylee went to dance
- 29:03class and she was probably 8 or 9 and she did not have a cell
- 29:08phone. But she came back from class and
- 29:12she was talking about how the other girls in the class were
- 29:14talking about how they just got the latest version of the iPhone
- 29:18and that kind of thing. And she goes, mom, like, they
- 29:22don't need that. Why?
- 29:25Why are their parents buying them this?
- 29:27Which she's very thrifty, so I get.
- 29:30It you got lucky. You know, but they yes, yeah,
- 29:34they didn't take, they didn't take after me.
- 29:37But yeah, they don't. They're not needing that latest
- 29:41and greatest thing. But we also didn't buy them the
- 29:44latest and greatest. Like, yeah, they didn't want for
- 29:46nothing, but it wasn't like over the topness.
- 29:49There's a fine line and balance. You have to try to find
- 29:53disappear. You have a Louis Vuitton purse.
- 29:56Not just one. No, OK, just one.
- 30:00But I mean not just. One.
- 30:01I think I have 5 or 6 now so. Right.
- 30:05So some, some people. They're just like your comic
- 30:08books. This is my thing.
- 30:09This is my thing. No, I get it.
- 30:11I understand why you got it. Yeah.
- 30:12I mean, I mean, I always, I always joke why I don't have a
- 30:16boat or I don't have a trailer or any of those things.
- 30:18Is I've got my comic books and and The funny thing is, if I did
- 30:22sell my comic books, I'd love to have a classic Mustang.
- 30:25Like I would take that money and buy a classic car.
- 30:28So that's like, that's if you're asking me what cool thing I
- 30:31would love, I for some reason love classic cars.
- 30:33So I'd go get myself a classic car with that money.
- 30:35But I always joke that my car money is in the comic books.
- 30:38Right. Well, I do know.
- 30:40So some of these kids, the way that they're trying to skirt
- 30:42around this is they're taking like a dummy phone to school and
- 30:47like giving that to be put in the in that Yoder pouch and then
- 30:51keeping their real phone. So, you know, they're kids,
- 30:54they're gonna figure out a way around this.
- 30:56They always will. So do you think that there
- 30:58should be a Well, OK, let's say that that you do give them the
- 31:02fake phone and all that. Don't you think there should be
- 31:04punishment if you discover that you do have an actual and
- 31:07they're allowed to take them out?
- 31:08What between classes and lunch? Yeah, yeah.
- 31:12They're they're. They're not during, right?
- 31:14So they're just like completely restricted.
- 31:17And also it's kind of been crazy is kids now get what is it,
- 31:21iPads or laptops. Yeah, I mean either or or both.
- 31:26We had. None of that.
- 31:26You know, when we were kids, we had to go to the computer room.
- 31:30Yeah, there was one room in the library that had like 3 or 4
- 31:32computers. Yeah.
- 31:33That was what you had you. That wasn't.
- 31:35That wasn't in the class, so. No typing class.
- 31:37Oh my God I hated typing class. Right.
- 31:39So it's, so it, I mean, I think that technology is amazing and
- 31:43it's neat that kids can have those, the newest tools and
- 31:46other stuff that we had. I think that that's, I would
- 31:48much rather have my tax money go on things like that to where
- 31:52they're at. Yeah, we, they're so funny.
- 31:54We were talking on air a couple days ago about running start,
- 31:58how lucky kids are to have running start and things that we
- 32:02didn't. I mean.
- 32:02Running start is fabulous. Well, it would have been nice of
- 32:05my kids have done it so. Right.
- 32:07I, we were talking on the air the fact that Patty said that
- 32:11Patty said she couldn't wait to get out of school, so she got
- 32:13out early. What I did with my credits is I
- 32:17front loaded my credits so my credits were done by the time my
- 32:21sophomore year was done. I mean and the.
- 32:25Required. Classes done 2 1/2 years.
- 32:27So yeah, so I had already banged out the requirement.
- 32:30So I had about a year and a half where to me it was, I was
- 32:34coasting basically just to get out of school.
- 32:37And it would have been great to be able to leave school with an
- 32:39AA or something. Right, and for certain kids,
- 32:42which my kids weren't into the social aspect of school.
- 32:47And so they really thrived with running start.
- 32:50I think, you know, because their maturity was a little bit more
- 32:54than the high school standard maturity.
- 32:55And so they did fine in college and in their college classes
- 32:59because you have really have to manage yourself when you do
- 33:02running start. And so these kids really have
- 33:05they have to which they're they have criteria for how you can
- 33:08qualify. And so they they really have to
- 33:10be able to manage themselves and be good at at just whatever it.
- 33:15Is did all four do running start?
- 33:17No, Benjamin tried. He's going to be so mad at me
- 33:20for this. That's OK.
- 33:22So he tried and then he like flunked out out of the first
- 33:28quarter, which he was one of the kids who struggles in school.
- 33:32We think he had dyslexia, but the school would never really
- 33:35test him for it, thankfully because of sports.
- 33:38I think that's the only reason that that kid did tried to do
- 33:42well in school. He saw if you got AD or an F,
- 33:44you know, how you would get benched for soccer or basketball
- 33:47or whatever it is. And so he saw that happen to his
- 33:49friends and how embarrassing that was and he did not want
- 33:53that to happen to him. And but he really struggled.
- 33:55But he at least tried to maintain like AC minus right,
- 34:00right. So his classes, but he tried to
- 34:02do he signed himself up for running start.
- 34:04I did not pressure him to do running start because I knew and
- 34:08he's the social he really did well in the social aspect of
- 34:12high school and school and I did not pressure him to do running
- 34:16start. He on his own went to the little
- 34:19orientation and decided he wanted to do it.
- 34:21And I signed the paperwork and was like, OK, but you realize
- 34:25this is a big commitment. And he ended up flunking out.
- 34:29And so he had to spend like 1/4 in the alternative school that
- 34:34Natchez has so that he can make up those classes so that he
- 34:38could then graduate on time with his classmates.
- 34:41But as an adult, he did get his A A a couple years ago.
- 34:45So he just wasn't ready at the time.
- 34:47Well, your kids were. The other kids were ready and.
- 34:50Well, see, I mean again, you have 4 kids, they all have
- 34:52distinct personalities. Yes, and and again, I mean not I
- 34:59like when you talk about your kids like Benjamin, like I'm a
- 35:04huge supporter of not everybody has to go to college.
- 35:07So it's like if there's a trade school like and Benjamin is very
- 35:10much more of a tradesman, you know, different things like
- 35:13that. And I love that about that
- 35:15because that's why I always support like, I think I mean
- 35:19private school. Yeah.
- 35:20I think if you want to go to private school, you pay.
- 35:22I'm sorry, you want to be hoity toity.
- 35:24You pay, you go to. Harvard.
- 35:26No, whatever you want to do, you pay.
- 35:28But for me, I've always felt that trade schools or community
- 35:32Community College level should be free for anybody who wants to
- 35:35better themselves. That should not have to be a pay
- 35:38for play. Now, if you want to go to a
- 35:40fancy private college, you know, like, like, let's say your kid
- 35:43wants to go to Phoenix or, you know, the university, wherever
- 35:45out of town, then you should pay for those things.
- 35:48But at at the at the local level, Walla Walla Community
- 35:51College or Yakima Community College, actually, you know,
- 35:54maybe even Perry Tech to some extent, I don't know.
- 35:57Yeah, yeah, you know, it's a trade school.
- 35:59I think those things should be available for for kids and, and,
- 36:04and, and again, I don't, I mean, I think that that now if you
- 36:07want that higher education or that different, I think there's
- 36:09those levels that you pay for. But yeah, so every, every kids
- 36:13different. So when talking about the cell
- 36:14phones, I mean, you're gonna have some good kids that are
- 36:17gonna abide by it and then you're gonna have kids that are
- 36:19gonna are gonna cheat the system.
- 36:21And so how do? You Matthew would be.
- 36:23Yeah, no. So this is what would happen.
- 36:25Matthew would be the kid cheating the system because he.
- 36:28No, he would cheat at Candyland when he was little.
- 36:31Yeah. He would count how, you know,
- 36:32how many, the little with whatever the little candy that
- 36:36makes you move forward. He would count like how many
- 36:38people were playing and he would shuffle the cards and then he
- 36:41would put the good cards where he would think he would get
- 36:44them. Of course.
- 36:45Yeah. And then he would cheat at cards
- 36:47when he would play poker with his family.
- 36:49So. So Matthew would try to find a
- 36:51way to cheat the system. You know, he would be the kid
- 36:53with the dummy phone. He'd be the one cheating the
- 36:56system. Benjamin would be the kid that
- 36:58would just go along with the rules because he's just a go
- 37:01with the flow kind of kid. He wouldn't like it, but he
- 37:05would do it. Jackson.
- 37:07Yeah, he would go with the flow, too.
- 37:09He wouldn't like it, but he would do it.
- 37:10Shaylee would probably find a way to cheat the system because
- 37:14this is the kid that was hiding kids when she was 4.
- 37:17We've talked about this in a past podcast.
- 37:20So yeah, she would definitely try to figure out a way around
- 37:23this. And so then I would get the
- 37:25phone call from the school that would be like, hey, we caught
- 37:27your kid with their cell phone, you know, because the rules.
- 37:31When did you so? When?
- 37:31Do you? When do you look at from the
- 37:33social media standpoint? I know that Facebook has, what,
- 37:3814 and over or something like that With your kids, When did
- 37:42you allow them to get on? When did you allow them to get
- 37:44on social media? When they got a phone.
- 37:47Yeah, Facebook. Yeah, they didn't get phones
- 37:49until they were 10. And the only reason they got a
- 37:52phone at 10 was because the acceleration in school
- 37:56shootings. I I wanted them to at least have
- 38:00that cell phone in case of an emergency.
- 38:02But they also knew that they couldn't access it during
- 38:04school. They knew that there were
- 38:06certain rules. So if you get this privilege,
- 38:09there are certain rules that come with this privilege.
- 38:12And so and you have to let your kids test those boundaries and
- 38:16understand that as kids, because as a adults, we have rules and
- 38:20we have boundaries and we have to abide by them.
- 38:23And so that's just part of teaching your child.
- 38:26And they, none of them ever got in trouble for having their
- 38:30phones. They didn't have them out.
- 38:32Some of the teachers would make them put them in a basket, you
- 38:35know, when they get through the door, that kind of thing.
- 38:38And they all. Do you like that better?
- 38:40Do you like that better? Like with the basket?
- 38:43Or not. I mean, it's fine.
- 38:44I I understand again that they are distraction, but if there is
- 38:48a school shooting or emergency, like how accessible is that
- 38:53going to be for all the kids in the class trying to scramble to
- 38:56get their phones? So that's the way I look at it
- 39:00like that's a hot. Topic I don't, I don't.
- 39:02Yeah, I wish I, I wish your, I wish I had your answer on that.
- 39:05I don't think there is a clear answer.
- 39:07It's just what's best at the time as a parent.
- 39:11Like school shootings are ratcheting every year.
- 39:14There are more and more and more.
- 39:15And now there are kids that have been in one school shooting that
- 39:18have now been part of two or in college now.
- 39:21And it happens in college, which it could happen.
- 39:23I have two kids in college and it could very well happen for
- 39:26them. And it's just, it's so much more
- 39:30a concern now as a parent that that's why I would want them to
- 39:33have it. I mean, that's the only reason
- 39:35why I I understand they're a distraction, but that is the
- 39:38only reason. I I did an article, I know
- 39:41Prosser cuz Kyron used to go to Prosser.
- 39:43So I'm still on their mailing list and they send out their
- 39:46phone guidelines. And I mean, my kids have been
- 39:48graduated forever, but I'm still on some of these the mailing
- 39:51list of it. So.
- 39:53But yeah, I but gosh, the problem is every child's
- 39:57different. That's the problem.
- 39:58It's the, you know, it's like I I'm with you, you know, if
- 40:01everybody and. You don't have parents like me
- 40:02that would say, OK, you this is a privilege.
- 40:06If you break that privilege, I'm going to take your cell phone
- 40:09away for a week. I mean, you don't have parents
- 40:10like me that would no you. Have parents who.
- 40:12Think those rules. You have parents who think it's
- 40:14a right. Oh yeah, definitely.
- 40:17You've got, you've got parents who think that, that it's a
- 40:19right to, you know, have a cell phone, They have a, they have a
- 40:22right to walk in with Starbucks. They don't have to.
- 40:25They don't have to get rid of their Starbucks.
- 40:27So yeah, yeah, that's is Starbucks.
- 40:30Like the gum. But like back in our day, it
- 40:32was. Yeah, now it's Starbucks gum.
- 40:34No one cares about gum. No one cares about gum.
- 40:36I or you know what? I may be out of line.
- 40:39You know what I'm seeing a lot of which, And maybe it's a
- 40:42status and maybe you have to educate me because you know, you
- 40:46know, I mean, I'm drinking. My as I'm drinking my coffee
- 40:48from the coffee that's. An awesome Starbucks.
- 40:50So you know me, I'm a I'm a, I'm a non drinker, blah blah blah.
- 40:54So when I'm at concerts, all I see is what energy drinks and
- 40:58sell. Is it all sell?
- 41:00I mean, is this all you know? Is this?
- 41:02Does it taste good or is it literally people just trying to
- 41:05look like that they belong? I think it's an addiction.
- 41:10Energy drinks are addictive, just like coffee and other, you
- 41:15know, alcohol, cigarettes I think.
- 41:17Celsius because remember those like those Celsius or like you
- 41:20see them now, Yeah. Celsius isn't.
- 41:23Are you talking about like white claws or?
- 41:25Yeah, we. Yes.
- 41:26Well, I've heard, yes. White Claws, I know all.
- 41:27Yeah. So.
- 41:28Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:28So when you're at a concert now, it's like back in the day people
- 41:31would have a beer and now it's now it's these, these drinks.
- 41:37I think it's kind of it's, yeah, it's bold.
- 41:40People are addicted to them and it is a status thing and people
- 41:44just, it's the new coffee for the Next Gen.
- 41:48Z. It's just their version of
- 41:50Starbucks on a different level so.
- 41:53I got you. Yes.
- 41:54I didn't want to just bag on poor Starbucks today, but
- 41:57because I was at because I was at this concert and I'm like at
- 41:59this concert and all these people like have their cell.
- 42:01I think it's Celsius or whatever they got.
- 42:02I'm like, well, all these energy, all the, all these
- 42:05energy drinks that they got going on there so well.
- 42:07At least we don't have to worry about Starbucks ever being a
- 42:10sponsor. Probably not.
- 42:12Yeah, not not. Yeah, a product placement.
- 42:15You just gave the product placement.
- 42:16We're good. Yeah, OK.
- 42:18So the last few nights I've been, I have been watching the
- 42:21People versus Michael Jackson. It's been on A&E, which I just
- 42:25watched. They had a documentary on the
- 42:27Bunny Ranch. Remember the Bunny Ranch I.
- 42:29Love the Bunny ranch? Yeah, they had The Cat House on
- 42:32HBO back in the day. I, I yeah, I used to watch that,
- 42:35but I saw it. OK, OK.
- 42:39But yeah, I watched that. With which Dennis Hoff was just
- 42:42a sleazier version of Hugh Hefner.
- 42:45They were 2 old white men who used their power over women to
- 42:50get them to do what they wanted. Looking back now, it was gross.
- 42:54But yeah, back in the day I would watch the Girls Next Door
- 42:57and Cat House just like you and didn't really think anything of
- 43:01it. But anyway, so the back to the
- 43:02Michael Jackson documentary, so it has it has his attorney,
- 43:08which if I ever get in trouble, kill somebody, whatever, I'm
- 43:11hiring him. Just so you know, so just if you
- 43:14need to find me a representation, just look up.
- 43:17He's got the white long hair. I don't remember his name.
- 43:20They had his, they had Michael Jackson's attorney.
- 43:22They had some of the jurors. They had one of the prosecutors
- 43:25and some other people. One guy that was a biographer of
- 43:28Michael Jackson, he said he was a friend.
- 43:30But some of the things he was saying, I was like, girl, you
- 43:32were no friend. If like you're saying this shit.
- 43:36But none of the victims were in it.
- 43:39They, as far as you know, speaking for themselves or being
- 43:42interviewed and I am a big believer in believing the
- 43:47victims. The problem that I had watching
- 43:51this documentary was the parents of the victims.
- 43:56They took the money or the settlement instead of seeking
- 44:01justice for their kids. So the two allegations from back
- 44:05in the 90's, the parents took the settlements instead of
- 44:11having him prosecuted. And so for me as a parent like
- 44:15that is that is a huge problem, a huge, huge problem for me that
- 44:20that would be what you would do. You would take this money.
- 44:23This I mean, it's hush money basically, instead of seeking
- 44:26justice for your kid. And like what parent let's their
- 44:298 year old like stay weeks with some adult?
- 44:34But then again, you and I have been in the lines at meet and
- 44:37greets and we see these people that lose their damn minds over
- 44:40celebrities and do and say things that were going why did
- 44:43you say what are you doing? So I could see where people get
- 44:47blinded by fame. But still, this is your this is
- 44:51your 8 year old child. So I thought it was crazy.
- 44:54I don't know what you think about it as far as old SO.
- 44:58So for Michael, for Michael, I'm a little torn on some situations
- 45:01with Michael because here's a couple, here's a couple things.
- 45:03So Corey Feldman, yes, says absolutely nothing happened.
- 45:08So did Macaulay Culkin. Macaulay Culkin says nothing
- 45:10absolutely happened, Lisa. Marie Presley Macaulay
- 45:13testified. Yep, Lisa Marie Presley said she
- 45:16never saw one iota of any any of these things happening.
- 45:21The mom of his children, Debbie. Whatever, right?
- 45:24None of his own children. Yeah.
- 45:26None of his own children. Do I believe that Michael
- 45:29Jackson never grew up? Absolutely.
- 45:31Do I believe Peter Pan? Absolutely.
- 45:34Do I believe that these things? Now, again, there's that old
- 45:39adage there where there's smoke, there's fire.
- 45:42So I, I, I am concerned one of those things is like, I go back
- 45:48to what you just said was it was interesting that that they both
- 45:51times took a payout or they, they would take a payout.
- 45:56And, and the kids who who were friends with him, they hadn't
- 46:02gotten money yet, no payout or anything were interviewed and
- 46:06they said nothing happened. And then later some of these
- 46:11kids are that are now adults have flip-flopped and have said
- 46:14things have happened, but they have also gotten paid for their
- 46:19stories. And so that really clouds it
- 46:22like you're getting paid because you wouldn't have gotten paid if
- 46:26you would have said, oh, nothing happened.
- 46:28And so. And, and again, it goes back to
- 46:31#1 even from the parents standpoint of getting rich or
- 46:37those, those, those particular situations.
- 46:39So I think in the very first allegation, Michael's lawyers
- 46:43were like Michael's. Michael was like, I want to
- 46:45fight this, I'm going to fight this, yes.
- 46:46And his and they were like, no, just pay the kid 20 million,
- 46:48he'll go away and you don't have to worry about it.
- 46:51And. And they talk about that in the
- 46:53documentary. His attorney that fought the
- 46:55allegations in 2005. He says that he says, like
- 46:59Michael wanted to, you know, try and beat this, but the attorneys
- 47:03told him it would be in his best interest to settle.
- 47:05So his attorney makes that very clear in this document.
- 47:08Yeah, and, and I think that there was and I think that the,
- 47:10you know, there was, Yeah, multiple times of what do you,
- 47:16what do they want? Or they want to, I mean, but
- 47:17see, that's I'm with you. It's like, for me, it's like
- 47:21there's something rotten in Denmark.
- 47:23It's my great worry, you know, I'm saying rotten in Denmark
- 47:25when it's like, so my so Michael Jackson did this horrific thing
- 47:30to your kid and how we settle as me.
- 47:33Is he writing a check for $20 million?
- 47:36I don't like that. As as a period if anybody wrongs
- 47:40my child like oh you're done. Hold grudges against kids that
- 47:43did shit to my kids. We've already talked about this.
- 47:46I'm a huge death penalty person, so I'm 100.
- 47:50That's the one. That's the one Republican thing
- 47:52that, you know, I line up with. It's like I'm an eye.
- 47:55I'm an eye for an eye kind of guy with when it comes to that.
- 47:57And so if you are a child molester, your ass is done.
- 48:01I mean, I, I, you're done. And so if, if those allegations
- 48:05were true or if I, if that had happened to my kid, there's no
- 48:08amount of money, no, that I, that they're going to pay.
- 48:10I don't care what they say. I'm not doing it.
- 48:13But then on the other, so the flip side of that coin is this
- 48:16is Michael Jackson. So do you think those parents
- 48:19were We can't go up against, we can't beat Michael Jackson.
- 48:24So say this goes to trial or this, whatever, whatever, you
- 48:27know, we're going up against this huge giant star that it
- 48:31would be in the best interest for us to take the money.
- 48:34I don't know. About that, I think.
- 48:36I think that the the poor thing about Michael Jackson was his
- 48:41maturity level. I'm concerned about, I mean
- 48:44like, like. It's kind of like, look at
- 48:45Britney Spears now, like, right? Oh my gosh, yes, I, I look at
- 48:48her all the time on Instagram. What are you talking about?
- 48:50I, I'm, I'm enjoying the pics. You know she can take away the
- 48:53little rose. Not in the same way.
- 48:55I don't look at her the same way.
- 48:57But yes, I see her on Instagram. I'm going, Oh my God.
- 49:00No, no, yes. She did not.
- 49:01She was not able to have a childhood and.
- 49:03She no, she's no, I, I again, I we make joke.
- 49:07We, we make jokes about it. But yeah, I am concerned for her
- 49:10mental health. Yes, definitely.
- 49:12And some of the things that she's doing and, and even from
- 49:15the, the Michael Jackson thing, it's like, yeah, I'm, I'm, I've
- 49:19always been torn about Michael, which I, and I also, I also
- 49:24think that I also think that people set him up to some extent
- 49:26too, I do believe because of his immaturity.
- 49:29Because interesting enough, Corey Feldman and Macaulay
- 49:32Culkin, or at least Corey Feldman once said, is the the
- 49:37worst thing that Michael Jackson ever did to him is once he
- 49:40become a became an adult. So once you grew up, once you
- 49:43weren't that cute kid anymore, he would lose, he would lose
- 49:47interest in you. And that was one of the things
- 49:50Corey Feldman had mentioned was was.
- 49:51Something I think they brought up in this documentary.
- 49:54Yeah, I think when. One of the kids kind of, I don't
- 49:57know. How old?
- 49:58Yeah, once one of those things where and then that's what they
- 50:01were talking about. Once they got to a certain age,
- 50:04that's what. And I think they did bring it up
- 50:05in one of the documentaries where.
- 50:06Well, he didn't want to. Now.
- 50:07Michael Jackson didn't want to be You're, You're.
- 50:09Gonna hang out, right? Didn't.
- 50:10Want to hang out, you know, and you're like, what?
- 50:12And so that I mean, from Corey Feldman, because I remember
- 50:14Corey Feldman talking about it a lot.
- 50:16He adamantly denies Michael Jackson did anything, period.
- 50:20But he also said the only thing that hurt him was the
- 50:23abandonment of Michael Jackson. Which one of the kids that's in
- 50:27this documentary he talks about? About he felt like Michael
- 50:31abandoned. Him yes yeah I don't remember
- 50:34the story leading up to that so I'll.
- 50:36Have to go back and watch. It now but.
- 50:38But that I mean, now I can see that from like, man, you have
- 50:40this great relationship and then the minute you turn will not
- 50:43and. Then it's cold Turkey.
- 50:45Right. But, yeah, I mean, he's just
- 50:46not. Yeah, you're an adult now.
- 50:47And I'm not, you know, I'm just not.
- 50:49So yeah, that's a it's a good one.
- 50:52I think that this, the Michael Jackson thing's gonna be debated
- 50:55forever, but I I'm with you on one. 100% not alive anymore.
- 50:58Well, and I think and I struggle, I always will
- 51:01struggle, same as you when people take payouts.
- 51:05Yeah. I don't, I don't buy.
- 51:06I don't I I don't buy their word.
- 51:09No, because you, especially when it comes to your kids, yeah.
- 51:12Yeah, and so, but and, and do I and do I think that some parents
- 51:16are waxed enough to go, hey, that's Michael Jackson, Can you
- 51:18get close to Michael Jackson? Yeah, because they, they do that
- 51:23they the, they being in that orbit, you know.
- 51:27OK, let's, let's put it into a better, even better perspective
- 51:30for you. Cato Kaelin No, I'm saying OJ
- 51:34you're you're you're you're in O JS orbit basically.
- 51:37So so when you're a celebrity, when you're when you're Kim
- 51:40Kardashian, you're Michael Jackson, when you are a hanger,
- 51:43honor around celebrity. Great.
- 51:47You know, you orbit around that and, and you feel like in your
- 51:50own sense that you're a celebrity or you want to taste
- 51:53that. Similar access to things that
- 51:55they get that you wouldn't as just a normal person.
- 51:59Well, it's the same thing. It's the same thing as I always.
- 52:01It's the the Kevin Costner situation when his wife left him
- 52:06is like, well, I have to, I have to live in the same manner that
- 52:09you live because that, you know, well, no, we were married and I
- 52:12so I guess I should throw throw that out to you.
- 52:15This would be a great way to get in this podcast.
- 52:17So I'm gonna just throw it out there.
- 52:19I think Jay does a little better than you do, Michelle,
- 52:21financially. Just throw it out there.
- 52:24They're not saving numbers or anything like that.
- 52:25Right. So do you think because you've
- 52:28been married again, you've been married a long time to Jay?
- 52:30Yeah. And if you guys got a divorce,
- 52:32Yeah. Would you be one of those people
- 52:34that like, hey, he's made me accustomed to the lifestyle that
- 52:38I enjoy? To these Louis Vuittons.
- 52:40Louis Vuitton versus and I expect even though we're
- 52:44divorced, he going to keep paying for my for my life.
- 52:48Or are you like, hey, man, bygones, big bygones, an
- 52:52amicable, we'll call it an amicable divorce.
- 52:54You know what I'm? Saying if, if, if the kids were
- 52:57still younger, then I would do whatever I could for their best
- 53:02interests. But that's also because my dad
- 53:05did not pay child support for a few years.
- 53:07And that's kind of why we struggled.
- 53:09And so again, that childhood trauma, I would do everything I
- 53:12could to make sure that my kids were financially taken care of.
- 53:18But me like now I'm a functioning adult with no
- 53:21children so I wouldn't expect him to have to take.
- 53:25Care of me and I don't know what celebrity recently but it was in
- 53:28the news gosh I wish I could think of the top of my head but
- 53:31the the person that that's leaving the relationship is
- 53:33demanding $75,000 a month in support which is.
- 53:37Crazy. That's, you know, and and that
- 53:40goes back to the Kevin Costner divorce, not that you know, and
- 53:42I'm sure she got paid out, but she said, well, I want to live
- 53:44in the same neighborhood. I mean, if they have kids and
- 53:48you share custody, that would be easy to go back and forth from
- 53:52house to house. And that was her OK, so that was
- 53:54her point. Now, you just brought it up.
- 53:56So they have kids together and she said that the wife that's
- 54:00leaving or the the divorce says that there should be no
- 54:04difference if he's at Kevin Costner's house or if he's at
- 54:07the the ex wives house. I mean, I don't know about that.
- 54:10I understand wanting. How's the two near each other
- 54:13that makes the going back and forth?
- 54:16Right sharing that was her argument that was her argument
- 54:19that my kid is accustomed to live in Kevin Costner lifestyle.
- 54:23I don't live that lifestyle and that the kids gonna be in shock
- 54:26because they're they're, you know, maybe the kid would be
- 54:29better. Off no no I understand the house
- 54:33again because it is easier for the to shuttle the kid back and
- 54:38forth it's less traumatic for them.
- 54:40I have been the kid that's been handed off from parent to parent
- 54:43so I get it. So I completely understand that.
- 54:46But the lifestyle thing her want her saying that oh he needs to
- 54:50still have the lifestyle No no and kids will be fine if they
- 54:53are are not if they don't have access to.
- 54:57Kids. Three iPads or whatever it is
- 54:59that they're. Going to have about dads,
- 55:00They're resilient, kids are resilient and if you're both
- 55:03good parents. It's not going to, yeah, it's
- 55:06not going to phase them. Yeah, what you know, yes, your,
- 55:09your one parent is exuberantly rich beyond rich and and you're
- 55:13getting $75,000 a month. You're OK too.
- 55:16Right. But but, but in her mind, it was
- 55:18not enough. Things fun to do with the child,
- 55:20like you cook with them, you do things that are they wouldn't be
- 55:24able to do with their dad because he's busy making all the
- 55:27money on this. Well, the Michael Jackson thing
- 55:28to me, I will always be torn on because we don't know the story.
- 55:31We don't know the like you said, people took payouts and, and
- 55:36attorneys told him to settle different things.
- 55:39That to me it's like I guess if I, if I got accused of something
- 55:42like that, guess what mofos, we're going to court No, we're.
- 55:47And I'm trying to because we grew up with him and so I'm
- 55:50trying to not have that rose colored glasses of like this is
- 55:54Michael Jackson I. No, I think anything.
- 55:57I loved him growing. Up No, no.
- 55:59Our generation, that's huge. And so you have to set that
- 56:03aside and look at all the facts and the case and.
- 56:07You, you've heard me a billion times and I'll say this and I'll
- 56:10say it over and over again. I don't care if you're
- 56:12Republican, Democrat. I don't care if you commit a
- 56:14crime, your ass goes to jail. Yes.
- 56:17And, and so I don't care if you're Michael Jackson.
- 56:19I don't care if you're Taylor Swift.
- 56:21You commit a crime you'll ask goes to jail.
- 56:23Yeah, yeah. So.
- 56:25Well, Speaking of jail, that that's going to be a good segue
- 56:29into what I found. OK, OK, OK, I'll try to hold
- 56:34this up. You tell me if you can see it.
- 56:37What the heck? That's you and me.
- 56:40Can you see it? Yeah.
- 56:42Look at look at us. Wow, This was behind bars for
- 56:46good. The MDA lockup thing.
- 56:49Wow, that's. A good I I.
- 56:50Don't recall that me either. I did not even.
- 56:54Know I don't care. Wow.
- 56:56We look so young. When I found this picture I went
- 57:00Oh my God, no way. And I'll put it up on our.
- 57:05Like Harry Potter? Yes, you barely have your eyes
- 57:10open. I was like, is he trying to look
- 57:11tough and mean or what's going on?
- 57:13Oh yes, that's the joke. I'm sure it was I I bet.
- 57:16Because we're supposed to be in jail.
- 57:18Yes, locked up. Yes, yes, that.
- 57:21I don't know what the hell Look, I'm going.
- 57:24I got going on. I don't know what the hell.
- 57:26No, no, that yes, that was definitely being goofy and
- 57:29acting like I'm a hard ass going to jail.
- 57:32So. I trust me.
- 57:33The reason why the reason why I would never go to prison is
- 57:35because I don't want to. I would be somebody's bitch and
- 57:37that is not that is not how I want to end up.
- 57:40That's that's probably the number one reason why I don't
- 57:42commit crimes is I would end up being somebody's bitch.
- 57:45And that is not how I'm going to end this world because in prison
- 57:50I'm probably pretty good looking.
- 57:51So no, not having. Yeah, yeah, they, they'll see
- 57:54you coming in being, oh, fresh meat.
- 57:56Oh yeah, look at that fresh. Meat, yeah.
- 57:58Look at that fresh meat. I will put this pass on it, but
- 58:02that's a great, that's a great picture.
- 58:04Yeah, post it up there because that's that's hilarious.
- 58:06I'll put it up on our Facebook and now.
- 58:08You're going to make me dig up some of these Danger Boy
- 58:10pictures, so I'll have to. I'll have to.
- 58:12Yes, I want to see them. Yeah, I got to.
- 58:13I got to dig them up. Because I don't think I have any
- 58:16of the danger boy, I'll go back and look.
- 58:18I don't think I have any of us. I think I have a picture of the
- 58:21dog house. OK.
- 58:23But then that that for some reason that is it I don't have.
- 58:26I think I want to say these are pictures that Donna took.
- 58:29Remember Donna, she, I think Donna took these.
- 58:31Yeah, Donna took these pictures. So yeah, there's a, there's a
- 58:33role of it. OK.
- 58:35All right. Well, I'll be expecting those
- 58:36for next week then. How's that sound?
- 58:38That sounds great. OK, also help help us build up
- 58:43our numbers on our Facebook and Instagram page.
- 58:46Like it, share it. And thank you all for listening
- 58:49to Rick and that Michelle chick.
