Winnipeg’s sci-fi and fantasy fans just got their own literary haven—Other Places Books, a queer-owned bookstore stocked with 900 titles, spotlighting queer writers and stories. Opening on Graham Avenue beside used bookshop Bison, it’s part of a growing niche bookstore scene including Raven’s End and Bound to Please. Owner Didi Chanoch, a former sci-fi translator from Israel, sees deep ties between queer identity and speculative fiction, with plans for author events and participation in the Winnipeg Queer Book Fair.
