- 0:22Speaker 1: Little Pigs retold with drawings by L. Leslie Brooke. Once
- 0:31Speaker 1: upon a time there was an old sow with three
- 0:34Speaker 1: little pigs, and as she had not enough to keep them,
- 0:40Speaker 1: she sent them out to seek their fortune. The first
- 0:44Speaker 1: that went off met a man with a bundle of
- 0:47Speaker 1: straw and said to him, please, man, give me that
- 0:53Speaker 1: straw to build me a house, which the man did,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and the little pig built a house with it. Presently
- 1:01Speaker 1: came along a wolf and knocked at the door, and said,
- 1:06Speaker 1: little pig, little pig, let me come in, to which
- 1:11Speaker 1: the pig answered no, no, by the hair of my
- 1:16Speaker 1: chinny chin chin. Then i'll huff and i'll puff, and
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'll blow your house in, said the wolf. So he
- 1:31Speaker 1: huffed and he puffed, and he blew his house in
- 1:38Speaker 1: and ate up the little pig. The second pig met
- 1:43Speaker 1: a man with a bundle of furs, and said, please, man,
- 1:50Speaker 1: give me that furs to build a house, which the
- 1:54Speaker 1: man did, and the pig built his house. Then along
- 2:00Speaker 1: came the wolf and said, little pig, little pig, let
- 2:06Speaker 1: me come in, no, no, by the hair of my
- 2:12Speaker 1: chinny chin chin. Then i'll puff and i'll huff, and
- 2:19Speaker 1: i'll blow your house in. So he huffed and he puffed,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and he puffed and hoffed, and at last he blew
- 2:33Speaker 1: the house down and ate up the second little pig.
- 2:40Speaker 1: The third little pig met a man with a load
- 2:43Speaker 1: of bricks and said, please, man, give me those bricks
- 2:49Speaker 1: to build a house with. So the man gave him
- 2:52Speaker 1: the bricks, and he built his house with them. So
- 2:58Speaker 1: the wolf came, as he did to the other little pigs,
- 3:02Speaker 1: and said, little pig, little pig, let me come in, no, no,
- 3:11Speaker 1: by the hair of my chinny chin chin. Then I'll
- 3:17Speaker 1: huff and i'll puff, and i'll blow your house in. Well,
- 3:26Speaker 1: he huffed and he puffed, and he huffed, and he puffed,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and he puffed and he huffed, but he could not
- 3:40Speaker 1: get the house down. When he found that he could not,
- 3:46Speaker 1: with all his huffing and puffing, blow the house down,
- 3:50Speaker 1: he said, little pig, I know where there is a
- 3:55Speaker 1: nice field of turnips. Where, said the little pig, oh
- 4:02Speaker 1: in mister Smith's home field. And if you will be
- 4:06Speaker 1: ready tomorrow morning, I will call for you and we
- 4:11Speaker 1: will go together and get some for dinner. Very well,
- 4:15Speaker 1: said the little pig, I will be ready. What time
- 4:19Speaker 1: do you mean to go? Oh? At six o'clock. Well,
- 4:25Speaker 1: the little pig got up at five and got the
- 4:28Speaker 1: turnips and was home again before six. When the wolf came,
- 4:33Speaker 1: he said, little pig, are you ready ready? Said the
- 4:39Speaker 1: little pig. I have been and come back again and
- 4:44Speaker 1: got a nice pot full for dinner. The wolf felt
- 4:50Speaker 1: very angry at this, but thought that he would be
- 4:54Speaker 1: up to the little pig somehow or other, and so
- 4:58Speaker 1: he said, little pig, I know where there is a
- 5:02Speaker 1: nice apple tree? Where, said the pig. Down at Merry Garden,
- 5:09Speaker 1: replied the wolf. And if you will not deceive me,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I will come for you at five o'clock tomorrow and
- 5:17Speaker 1: we will go together and get some apples. Well, the
- 5:23Speaker 1: little pig woke at four the next morning and bustled
- 5:28Speaker 1: up and went off for the apples, hoping to get
- 5:32Speaker 1: back before the wolf came. But he had farther to
- 5:36Speaker 1: go and had to climb the tree, so that just
- 5:41Speaker 1: as he was coming down from it, he saw the
- 5:44Speaker 1: wolf coming, which, as you may suppose, frightened him very much.
- 5:51Speaker 1: When the wolf came up, he said, little pig, what
- 5:55Speaker 1: are you here before me? Are they nice apples? Yes,
- 6:03Speaker 1: very said the little pig. I will throw you down one,
- 6:08Speaker 1: and he threw it so far that while the wolf
- 6:13Speaker 1: was gone to pick it up, the little pig jumped
- 6:15Speaker 1: down and ran home. The next day, the wolf came
- 6:21Speaker 1: again and said to the little pig, Little pig, there
- 6:26Speaker 1: is a fair in the town this afternoon. Will you go? Oh? Oh, yes,
- 6:32Speaker 1: said the pig, I will go. What time shall you
- 6:36Speaker 1: be ready? At three? Said the wolf. So the little
- 6:42Speaker 1: pig went off before the time as usual, and got
- 6:47Speaker 1: to the fair and bought a butter churn and was
- 6:50Speaker 1: on his way home with it when he saw the
- 6:53Speaker 1: wolf coming. Then he could not tell what to do,
- 6:58Speaker 1: so he got into the urn to hide, and in
- 7:02Speaker 1: doing so turned it round, and it began to roll
- 7:07Speaker 1: and roll down the hill with the pig inside it,
- 7:11Speaker 1: which frightened the wolf so much that he ran home
- 7:15Speaker 1: without going to the fair. He went to the little
- 7:21Speaker 1: Pig's house and told him how frightened he had been
- 7:25Speaker 1: by a great round thing, which came down the hill
- 7:28Speaker 1: past him. Then the little pig said, ah, I frightened
- 7:34Speaker 1: you did? I? I had been to the fair and
- 7:37Speaker 1: bought a butter churn, and when I saw you, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: got into it and rolled down the hill. Then the
- 7:47Speaker 1: wolf was very angry indeed, and declared he would eat
- 7:52Speaker 1: up the little pig, and that he would get down
- 7:56Speaker 1: the chimney after him. The little pig saw what he
- 8:01Speaker 1: was about. He hung on the pot full of water
- 8:06Speaker 1: and made up a blazing fire, and just as the
- 8:09Speaker 1: wolf was coming down, took off the cover of the pot,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and in fell the wolf, and the little pig put
- 8:18Speaker 1: on the cover again in an instant, boiled him up
- 8:22Speaker 1: and ate him for supper, and lived happily ever after.
