Transcript
- 0:00In our massive country, there are card collectors throughout
- 0:03the land participating in the hobby.
- 0:06There's Mike of Junk Wax Hero and Greg of Midlife Cards, and
- 0:11while distance may separate them, here is where they come
- 0:14together to talk cards. Hey buddy, how are you doing
- 0:21today? Hey, buddy.
- 0:25Hey, buddy. Doing well, Greg, we've this.
- 0:30We have a lively episode today. I'm excited about it.
- 0:33There's a lot going on and, and I know that we've got a lot of
- 0:37topics, but I've got a card topic I really want to hear your
- 0:42thoughts on. And I know you have a card topic
- 0:44that you want to talk about, but then we have some non card
- 0:47topics that we need to do a little bit of follow up on as
- 0:51well. Let me just start with this.
- 0:55I have already recorded episode #1 of Midlife Card Chase, the
- 1:03new show on the Sports Card Clubhouse with myself and David
- 1:09Chase of Sports Cards Live. And it's fun.
- 1:13It's it's pretty fun. I can't wait to listen David
- 1:16Chase is he's a riot. I really enjoyed hanging out
- 1:21with him at the at Strongsville. He's funny, he's smart.
- 1:26He's, I don't know, I just, I think he's going to be great.
- 1:30Yeah, I'm excited about it. He's got charisma and he's
- 1:34become he And I, it's weird because, you know, we met for
- 1:38the first time. I, I recognize his name because
- 1:42he had commented some on my, on my channel and he had submitted
- 1:47some cards on the community show and tell.
- 1:51But then I met him at the West Coast Card Show in February and
- 1:58he's become a really good friend.
- 1:59So it's it's fun to add him to the fold.
- 2:05And again, if you recognize the name, Saturdays he is a regular
- 2:10on Sports Cards Live with Jeremy Lee, which is fantastic.
- 2:15And then you. So my show with David is going
- 2:18to be every other week and in those off weeks you've got a
- 2:23show and you've got some regular guests lined up.
- 2:27So tell us about that. Yeah.
- 2:29So every four weeks, well, I'm back to doing this week in
- 2:32sports cards, which was very popular when I was doing it work
- 2:37kind of blew up over the winter and and I'm bringing it back
- 2:41every other week and so every other session.
- 2:43So every four weeks Teapot will be Co hosting with me and every
- 2:47other session on the other side of that every four weeks.
- 2:51It's a little confusing. It'll be Chris Sewell, so that's
- 2:54some heavy hitters Co hosting with me on that and that this
- 2:59week in sports cards will be every other week rotating with
- 3:02midlife card chase. Correct.
- 3:05And I I'm excited about it. I don't think I'm recording my
- 3:09first episode for a few more weeks cause of some life stuff
- 3:13getting away. We might record 1 next week,
- 3:15I'll see. OK, well if not, let me know and
- 3:18maybe David Chase and I could go back-to-back or something to
- 3:22fill the gap because we want to get some regularity going.
- 3:28All right. OK, Do we want to get right in?
- 3:31What do we want to get right into first?
- 3:33I feel like maybe I know that we have some follow up and some
- 3:37follow. I did a video on Wednesday and
- 3:41David Chase asked the question about Oreos and I shared my
- 3:46thoughts, which were, quite frankly, they were, they were
- 3:49perfect thoughts. And there was a lot of blowback.
- 3:53There was a lot of blowback about the Oreo thing, including
- 3:58from a very close friend of mine.
- 4:03Mookie Chilson says the cream in the middle is trash.
- 4:07He only likes the cookie. I'm like, mook, what are we
- 4:14doing? I'm flabbergasted.
- 4:18I don't even. I liked Mookie.
- 4:22This, I don't know. I don't even know what to say
- 4:24anymore. What is happening?
- 4:26I don't even know. I don't even know what is true
- 4:29anymore. Like what?
- 4:31What? Who am I?
- 4:32Who are you? Is is this all real?
- 4:35I mean, he doesn't. He likes just the cookie.
- 4:39I often will pick the cookie off and throw it away and I'll offer
- 4:43it up to people in my family. Anybody want this?
- 4:45Nobody ever wants it. No, you throw it out for the.
- 4:48Squirrels, they don't want it. No, the squirrels just look at
- 4:52it and go, that's garbage, that's trash.
- 4:55How dare you, they say. So what is your take on the
- 5:00thing 'cause it started with David Chase saying the best way
- 5:04to eat Oreos is you take off 1/2 and then you get another one,
- 5:07you take off 1/2 and then you put the two creams together.
- 5:10So you have two creams and two edges and his wife is like, we
- 5:15should be buying double stuff because that's what you're
- 5:17making. You're just wasting the two
- 5:19halves. What is the right answer?
- 5:23The right answer is close to what David says, but he's
- 5:27woefully wrong. The right answer is buying
- 5:30double stuffs, taking one of the cookies off of two of them, and
- 5:34squishing them together. And then you have quad stuffs.
- 5:37And that's better than mega stuff.
- 5:40No, the mega stuff is probably better.
- 5:43I never can find the mega stuffs.
- 5:47It's pretty rare that I was able to find them and then now
- 5:49they've started showing up all of a sudden.
- 5:51Here's the thing though, Greg, the best thing to do is to buy
- 5:56Golden Oreos, an 8 pack, The 8 pack of golden Oreos.
- 6:01Are you ready for this? I'm ready.
- 6:03I love the golden Oreos. Put that down in the script.
- 6:08Golden Oreos are fantastic. Go ahead.
- 6:12You don't get the chocolate in your teeth from a regular Oreo,
- 6:16and they're delicious. So you buy the 8 pack of golden
- 6:20Oreo double stuff. That's important.
- 6:23Then you buy a four pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups,
- 6:26normal, the original arena recess peanut butter cups, and
- 6:29then you put one peanut buttercup in between 2 double
- 6:33stuffed golden Oreos. My gosh.
- 6:36And eat it. It's the greatest thing.
- 6:37I have to give a shout out to my friend Phil.
- 6:40I I got, I just got the chills. I just got the chills, Mike.
- 6:44I don't know why I'm fat, Greg, but my friend Phil gave me this
- 6:49idea. Probably, yeah, 12 years ago,
- 6:54I'm guessing. And I've been doing it ever
- 6:56since. Occasionally it's rare because
- 6:58it's a treat, but I just did it last week.
- 7:00It's it's amazing. You got to try it and and report
- 7:04back. I'm clearly, clearly going to
- 7:07try it and I'm clearly going to report back and I the question
- 7:12is, I don't know how I'm going to be able to control myself
- 7:15from going down to the store before the show ends.
- 7:19Well, I love that. I love that idea and I love the
- 7:22golden Oreos and I love the double stuffed and the people
- 7:26who say that the cream filling is trash.
- 7:28I just I'm I'm just beside. Myself, yeah.
- 7:32We can both agree though that milk is trash, right?
- 7:35Milk is disgusting, dude. It's milk is disgusting.
- 7:40I I'm going to be honest with you right now.
- 7:42I'm going to be dead serious. I have been on this planet for
- 7:4846 years. I have never had a glass of
- 7:53milk. Wow, not even a not.
- 7:56The only milk I and this, I'm being dead serious.
- 8:00I've had a glass of chocolate milk, sure, but I've never,
- 8:05ever, I've not had a single glass of milk.
- 8:09And you know what else I'm going to tell you something else.
- 8:12And people say you need the calcium.
- 8:14I've never broken a bone. I broke my thumb once.
- 8:19That doesn't count. So when when we were kids in the
- 8:2380s and 90s, they had all that milk propaganda and our parents
- 8:27bought into it and forced us to have milk.
- 8:30Your parents were smarter than my parents.
- 8:31I had to have milk every night at dinner.
- 8:36I wouldn't be able to do it. I would have.
- 8:37I would have. Gagged.
- 8:39So gross. I have not had it since I was
- 8:42probably, I don't know, 151617 years old.
- 8:47All right, I want to talk about my topic first, 'cause I, I get
- 8:52fired up, you know, sometimes I listen to a video and I get, I
- 8:56get worked up and I, I like, I need to talk to somebody about
- 8:59this. And I do want to throw out right
- 9:02off the bat on I'm going to put this on the screen in case
- 9:06people are watching the Extra Innings episode.
- 9:13We, you know, we're we're lucky enough to have Jake of Wax pack
- 9:17Wisdom and Matt from Providence to regular extra innings
- 9:21episodes. And then occasionally we also
- 9:23get Tony Southern Collector and Mike Petty doing Extra Innings
- 9:27episodes, and they're fantastic. And in today's Extra Innings
- 9:31episode, they talked about something.
- 9:34Have you heard it yet, Mike? I have not.
- 9:36It's on my list for tomorrow. The Friday afternoons are good
- 9:38catch up days for me. We're.
- 9:40We're technic, we record these on Thursday, so everybody out
- 9:43there, just keep that in mind. So this posted to the sports Car
- 9:45clubhouse on Thursday and what they talked about was something
- 9:51that happened at a card show with Matt from Providence as
- 9:59being one of the top dealers in New England, wherever the heck
- 10:02that is. And he said, he said what
- 10:07happened. Well, what happened was, and,
- 10:09and I I'm paraphrasing, but a guy bought a beat up 57 tops Ted
- 10:15Williams and he brought it. He bought it from Matt while
- 10:20back. Matt then sent it in for grading
- 10:24and and the card came back altered.
- 10:26Now Matt Matt says that beaters thought that this card was a
- 10:30beater like it's that was that bad of a card and they wouldn't
- 10:34they wouldn't hold her it and they said it was altered.
- 10:37And so the guy brought it back to Matt and he said, I want to
- 10:40return this because it's altered and Matt gave him his money
- 10:44back, which stand up move by Matt to do that.
- 10:49But what it leads me the question it's leading me to, and
- 10:53I want to throw out two other things that happened recently.
- 10:56So this is already been kind of on my mind is at the
- 11:00Strongsville show, Mike Moynihan bought a bunch of autographed
- 11:05cards. He submitted some of those to
- 11:08JSA because some people in the comments were like, those aren't
- 11:12good. So he submitted a handful of
- 11:14them to JSA and all but one of them came back is not good.
- 11:18And and so he brought him back to the dealer and it was like
- 11:22dude. And so the guy on the ones that
- 11:25were not good, the guy gave him his money back.
- 11:27Mike didn't return the other cards that he bought and he
- 11:32ended up doing a show talking about it and he was frustrated
- 11:35about it. He ended up ripping up the
- 11:37autographed cards on on his show.
- 11:40And then another story. And I know I'm going long, but
- 11:43I, I want to lay it all out there and why this has been on
- 11:46my mind when I was in Strongsville.
- 11:49I'm, I'm walking down the aisle and I see Tony, Southern
- 11:52collector Tony and he's talking to a guy who had just bought
- 11:56some really high end, and I mean really high end raw cards like
- 12:02AI want to say it was like a 53 tops Jackie Robinson, maybe like
- 12:06a 54 tops Jackie Robinson. He ended up having some clips of
- 12:10it in a video that he did and they they're raw cards.
- 12:14And we're talking they had to have been big dollar because
- 12:16these were really, really nice cards.
- 12:19And the whole time I was thinking to myself, man, it's a
- 12:22lot of money to spend on a raw card.
- 12:25So with all of that, my question is where does the dealer's
- 12:31responsibility end or a card and whether it's altered, whether
- 12:37it's real, whether it's an authentic autograph?
- 12:41And where does the collector, where does their responsibility
- 12:45start? Is there a Gray area in there?
- 12:49Is it OK for people to buy raw cards, unauthenticated
- 12:54autographs, return them? Or is it sort of like buyer
- 12:58beware? Like where, where it where does
- 13:01everything go? Where does it start?
- 13:03Where does it end for the dealer?
- 13:04Where does it start? Where does it end for the
- 13:06collector? I think it's buyer beware
- 13:09immediately, but there's a big difference between Mike Moynihan
- 13:13buying cards at a show and then going to CGC at the show and
- 13:18saying, hey, are these legit? And then bringing them back to
- 13:21the dealer. And and alternatively buying a
- 13:26card from Matt from Providence, waiting six months to get your
- 13:29card back and then going back to Matt and saying, hey, this came
- 13:32back altered. I think that is nuts to do that.
- 13:40Yeah, go ahead. But good for him for getting his
- 13:44money back and good for Matt for giving it back to him.
- 13:47I'm just not in favor of doing that.
- 13:50I wouldn't do it myself. I, I, I think it's, I've said
- 13:55this for years. When I buy raw, unauthenticated
- 13:58autographs, I take the risk. Yeah, I I agree.
- 14:03I completely agree. So the reason it was different
- 14:07and, and, and I don't want to put words in your mouth.
- 14:09I just wanted to clarify where your stance is, because Mike
- 14:13checked for authentication like right there on the spot, it was
- 14:17different because he went across the room.
- 14:20It was technically a different room, but and he submitted them
- 14:24for authentication. They said no and then he went
- 14:26back across the room. So if that's the case, at what
- 14:29point can can Mike no longer return the cards or reach back
- 14:36out to the dealer? You're because you're saying
- 14:38because it was there on the site on the spot, it's OK to return
- 14:42them? When is it no longer OK to
- 14:44return them? When does the dealer's
- 14:46responsibility end? Well, I think that Mike's
- 14:49situation was a little bit different.
- 14:50If I'm remembering correctly, he didn't even ask for his money
- 14:52back. He just went back to tell the
- 14:54guy that the autographs were largely fake and that guy
- 14:58offered to pay him his money back.
- 15:00I don't think Mike expected to get his money back or asked for
- 15:03his money back, if I'm remembering correctly.
- 15:07Great. You're probably.
- 15:08Right by the way. Great, I usually AM false.
- 15:15I think that your your responsibility as a dealer ends
- 15:19as soon as the card and money change hands.
- 15:24You are not promising that your card is legitimate.
- 15:27You're making no guarantees. It is just, hey, I have this raw
- 15:32card. You can examine all you want,
- 15:36but once you have walked away from my desk and my my table and
- 15:40you've paid me money, that card is yours.
- 15:44And that's. Serious for other people's
- 15:45opinions on this. Yeah.
- 15:46Oh, I'm very I'm extremely curious because returning a card
- 15:54a long time later see and it it's it there.
- 15:58I I feel like generalities. I agree with everything you're
- 16:02saying. There's nothing that I've
- 16:03disagreed with so far. Well.
- 16:05There for the scenario at you first grade, I buy a card from
- 16:09Matt from Providence. I go when I clean it using Kurtz
- 16:13Card Care and then I send it to PSA and PSA says this is
- 16:17altered. Do I go back to Matt and say,
- 16:19hey, you sold me an altered card?
- 16:21That was literal. Like that was exactly what they
- 16:24were saying in the episode. That's that literally that was
- 16:28Matt's thing is, I feel like I'm opening a can of worms where who
- 16:32knows what the guy has done with the card from the time I sold it
- 16:36to now. So now does everybody have free
- 16:38reign to go try to clean them and clean them up and then, you
- 16:42know, press them and then come back to me later because it
- 16:45didn't work out for them. Like that's part of it, you
- 16:49know, and, and when dealers are selling things, you always want
- 16:54to be working with ethical dealers.
- 16:57And an ethical dealer that we highly recommend is our good
- 17:02friend Chris Sewall, who is, is as as ethical as they come.
- 17:11He's a fantastic dealer. He's a friend of ours.
- 17:14And so if you're looking to sell your collection or some of your
- 17:17collection, Chris Sewell, Collector Investor dealer, in
- 17:21that order, again, you can go to his website via a link on our
- 17:25channel, the Sports Card Clubhouse or go directly at
- 17:28Collector Investor dealer.com. You can e-mail him at
- 17:32sewellsportscards@gmail.com. And if you trust my, can you
- 17:37trust me and you trust our opinions and recommendations, we
- 17:42feel strongly that you can trust Chris to be treated well.
- 17:47He's going to treat you right. Would you agree with that, Mike?
- 17:50I would. And I think it's really neat
- 17:51that in that garage photo of himself, he has cloned himself
- 17:55and he's he's, there are three of him at least.
- 17:57And he's able to sort cards faster.
- 17:59It's it's pretty neat. I got to talk to him about that.
- 18:03So in yeah, I think that I think, See.
- 18:08But then there's a fine line too.
- 18:11What about the dealer who knows the cards are fake, who knows
- 18:16that the autographs are fake? He faked them, but he said you
- 18:21can inspect them all you want, but as soon as you leave, you
- 18:24can't return them. But he knows that they're fake.
- 18:27So the part of the problem is a lot to me, a lot of stuff.
- 18:32It goes back to intent. If that dealer bought a
- 18:36collection of autographs which he believed were real, he was
- 18:39told they were real. He was told they were acquired
- 18:41by some kid going to games and stuff and then he sells them.
- 18:46So now he has to give you your money back because you bought a
- 18:51card that he thought was real. That apparently the opinion of
- 18:56the authenticator is that it's not real and it even might be
- 18:59real. So it makes it tough at times
- 19:03because if the intent is the guy knows it's a fake card.
- 19:07Now I bought a card. This is probably 5 or 6 years
- 19:12ago now. I bought a card at a show from a
- 19:15dealer who just had boxes and boxes of three rows.
- 19:19And I was just digging through them cheap stuff.
- 19:22And a lot of the stuff wasn't priced yet.
- 19:25And it was like he, he just set up as a dealer 'cause he took
- 19:28the stuff out of the closet and he brought it to the show and,
- 19:33and one of the cards in there was a USFL Steve Young card.
- 19:42And it wasn't a cheap card. It wasn't crazy expensive.
- 19:47And I think that he thought it was legit because it had just
- 19:52been in these boxes forever. I don't think it's legit.
- 19:57In investigating it and really looking at it, I don't think
- 20:00it's legit. I've seen the dealer since at
- 20:05shows and whenever I see him, I go, that's the guy.
- 20:10I don't know if he knew it was fake.
- 20:13I don't know if he didn't know it was fake, but I felt like
- 20:18when I bought that raw card, part of it was it was a a better
- 20:23deal than if if it was in an 8 or a nine holder, A7 holder.
- 20:27And part of the reason it's a better deal is because there's a
- 20:30layer of risk involved. And I was accepting that risk in
- 20:35buying that unauthenticated item.
- 20:39And so I thought like cause 'cause I wouldn't do that.
- 20:45Now I had another time. I bought a Gaylord Rookie,
- 20:48Gaylord Perry rookie card and I sent it in to PSA and it came
- 20:55back mid sized. And I'm like, I'm not going to
- 21:00go bring it back to the dealer and try to get my money back.
- 21:04Ironically enough, I then sent it to SGC 'cause I didn't think
- 21:08it was mid sized. I I I thought it was legit size.
- 21:12I sent it to SGC and it got holdered.
- 21:14Like I think that it should have gotten holdered but.
- 21:17Did it get great because SGC will will hold her men sized
- 21:21cards. It got a grade OK, so, but it
- 21:26crossed my mind when I bought it and it came back men sized from
- 21:29PSA is I was like, do I say something to the dealer?
- 21:33Do I what do I do? And and again it went back to
- 21:36well, no, I got a good deal on this because it wasn't graded,
- 21:41because it wasn't authenticated and because it was raw.
- 21:44So I've never returned a card. I've never brought a card back
- 21:49because I think that's part of the deal when you buy something
- 21:53that's unauthenticated or ungraded, you're nodding.
- 21:59Uh oh. He's reaching for something.
- 22:03I have in my hand here 10 unauthenticated autographs.
- 22:08I took the risk on almost all. Some of these I did TTM, but I
- 22:13took the risk on all of them. I, I flow, but I just dropped
- 22:18one on the floor. Remind me when we're done.
- 22:20Now you're taking the risk because it's your responsibility
- 22:22to remind me not to step on it. So you, you talked about intent
- 22:28and there's no way for you to know the dealer's intent.
- 22:30There's no way for you to prove the dealer's intent unless
- 22:32something weird happens and the authentication of cards or
- 22:39autographs. Is it the most forgotten about
- 22:43reason to get your card graded? It's the most important reason
- 22:47to get your card graded with a legitimate third party grader.
- 22:52And same thing with autographs. You know I can I, I believe this
- 22:56Mia Hamm autograph is legitimate.
- 23:00I sent it off. I paid 100 bucks for it.
- 23:02Better be. I believe my triple auto on this
- 23:06Carlton Fisk rookie is legitimate, but I won't know for
- 23:10sure. And even then you're still not
- 23:13100% because third party graders still get it wrong occasionally.
- 23:17I won't know until I send it off to CGC later this week.
- 23:21Well, I won't know for a couple months before I get it back.
- 23:24But you know, C3 grading. I just did a video yesterday or
- 23:28the day before on C3 grading and how they graded a Babe Ruth 1916
- 23:36baseball card. I believe that card is fake.
- 23:39They are passing it off on their social media as real and they're
- 23:43saying it's worth $60,000. And I, in my video, I pointed
- 23:47out that they, they make no promise of authenticity.
- 23:51They say, we try to make sure your card is authentic, but
- 23:55there's no, there's really, when you look at any of the fringe
- 24:00graders, none of them put really much of anything there.
- 24:05It is none of them put much of anything on their website about
- 24:09authentication because authentication is really
- 24:12difficult. It takes a lot of expertise, it
- 24:15takes a lot of practice, it takes a lot of history
- 24:17experience. And when you're starting up a,
- 24:21and I say in your basement, I'm in my basement right now.
- 24:24When you're starting up a third party grader in your basement,
- 24:26you most likely don't have that expertise.
- 24:30And C3 grading. And I'm interviewing the owner
- 24:32of it. By the time this posts, no, it
- 24:35won't have posted yet, but I'm interviewing the owner pretty
- 24:38soon. They grade autographs too.
- 24:42And when you get AC-3 Gray, a slab in hand and it has an
- 24:47autograph on the card, you believe that that card is
- 24:52authentic and the autograph is authentic.
- 24:55And C3 is putting their name on those two things, but they're
- 24:58not authenticating either of them.
- 25:00Now, they will claim that they they do their best to
- 25:02authenticate, but I can't imagine anybody looking at that
- 25:05Babe Ruth card and saying, I believe that's real.
- 25:10I don't even think they believe it's real.
- 25:12I think they saw a press opportunity.
- 25:16Look at that thumbnail face. I mean, it's beautiful.
- 25:19Look at that card I I took. That I took that photograph
- 25:25sitting here by myself making thumbnail faces is the craziest
- 25:28thing. Like sitting here in my office
- 25:30by myself, took that photo, making that face.
- 25:34It's so stupid. I love it.
- 25:38I I agree, and similarly to that the PSA guarantee doesn't cover
- 25:47autographs. So even when you send your stuff
- 25:50to PSA and they authenticate it as a real autograph, they are
- 25:55saying we believe this to be real.
- 25:58But the PSA guarantee doesn't cover the autograph.
- 26:01It doesn't cover autographed items.
- 26:03It only covers cards, which is kind of wild.
- 26:07And I think I don't know how many people know that, that you
- 26:10know, cuz we all talk about the PSA guarantee and they stand by
- 26:13it and they'll give you your money back to find out it's fake
- 26:15or whatever, but not the autographs.
- 26:18And I think that's, I don't blame them because autographs
- 26:22are really hard to authenticate unless you're sitting there
- 26:25watching it happen. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:28And I I think what, what were we talking about?
- 26:31Oh, yeah, the authentic cards. I think Matt, I probably would
- 26:35have done the same thing as Matt, but I also probably would
- 26:38have worried and I would have come up with a, some sort of a
- 26:40plan for if this happens again. And how do you prevent it from
- 26:44happening? And I don't know, I, I'd have to
- 26:46give it some thought, but Matt's a smart guy.
- 26:48He'll come up with something. He's one of the best dealers in
- 26:50New England. I mean, he's, he's probably one
- 26:54of the top, yeah, top five or so, yeah, wherever New England
- 26:58is. OK, now you had a topic that you
- 27:03wanted to discuss. I did megabits So in our chat
- 27:09the other day I I posted, so I put in a megabit for a card and
- 27:13I I said I put in a small megabit and Jake of wax pack
- 27:17wisdom said do you mean what? What was this joke?
- 27:21It was funny. I'm trying to remember.
- 27:23I can scroll back and find it I. Think, he said.
- 27:25Do you mean a bid? He said.
- 27:27Like a small megabit. Do you mean a bid?
- 27:31And it was very, very Jake like and I, I laughed.
- 27:34But the point is what? Well, I guess what to you what
- 27:40is a megabit? Well, I would say.
- 27:44Before I made my point, before I made my point of what a megabit
- 27:47is what, What was your impression of a megabit?
- 27:50My impression of a megabit is bidding way above anywhere above
- 27:57you think that what the card could or should go for to ensure
- 28:02that you get the card. So if it's a card that you think
- 28:06will sell for about, you know, $25, you'd bid like 37.
- 28:12Like just there's no way that I'm not going to get it with
- 28:16this bid. To me, that's a Megabid.
- 28:19Oh, that's a weak Megabid to me. So this my Megabid that I was
- 28:23originally talking about was a $21.00 bid.
- 28:28You know the my my Max bid was $21.00 and the card was a 2 to
- 28:33$4.00 card regularly selling, consistently selling for two to
- 28:37$4.00. So I am 5 to 10 Xing the the
- 28:42Max. Now if you want a $25 card, $37
- 28:46ain't gonna cut it. For a megabit.
- 28:48I would say 60 to $80 on a card that sells for $25, that's a
- 28:57megabit. But then I cancelled my $21.00
- 29:02megabit because I found a better option.
- 29:06I'm not gonna get into details yet because it doesn't end for a
- 29:08few more days, but I found a better option on a card that
- 29:14goes for 30 to $40 on average. And so I put in a 100 and 101
- 29:22dollar Max bid. And to me those are megabits.
- 29:26Whether I think a lot of people hear Megabit and they think
- 29:29$10,000, but I it's just for me it's a bid way above what I
- 29:35expect that card to go for to make sure that I secure that
- 29:38card. Yeah, I, I think we have, we
- 29:41have the same definition of what a megabit is.
- 29:44And I think that it doesn't have to be an expensive card to be a
- 29:48megabit, but but it, it is still fun to troll you when you say
- 29:54you put in a megabit and the number is, is such a
- 29:57ridiculously low number. It's it's just fun to, you know,
- 30:02give you the. Business.
- 30:04Theo had my back the whole time. Did he?
- 30:06I think so. I don't remember it that way.
- 30:09I don't remember Theo turning the screws a little too.
- 30:15Yeah, the megabit is an interesting thing.
- 30:17It's not something I do a lot because quite frankly, I, I
- 30:23don't, I, I don't know, I don't buy a lot of stuff.
- 30:27And then when I do, it's not usually that rare that I'm like,
- 30:31I can't lose out on this opportunity.
- 30:35Yeah, I don't do a lot of mega bidding.
- 30:38I don't know. Greg, have you?
- 30:41Have you had a circus peanut since last week?
- 30:45I I haven't even thought about having a circus peanut, but you
- 30:49sent me, I believe, a picture of an empty bag of circus peanuts.
- 30:54And I was just happy to see that you were still upright when you
- 30:59when you made it to the show today, because I figured that
- 31:02would have killed you. I have a stomach of steel.
- 31:06I can eat an irrational amount of junk food and still feel
- 31:10perfectly fine after. Really.
- 31:12Yeah. It's it's alarming.
- 31:14I think I'm 47 years old and I've gained some weight.
- 31:18Of course, I'm 230 lbs, but I can eat anything, any amount of
- 31:26it. And my, I haven't, I haven't
- 31:28vomited in 34 years, Greg. Oh my gosh.
- 31:33Yeah, I if I have two pieces of pizza and a beer, I feel like
- 31:38I'm dying. Like I'm like, this is it?
- 31:42Like this is this is how I'm going to go out because I had
- 31:46two pieces of pizza and a beer. It really sucks because like,
- 31:50you go to like, you know, I went to the A's game with my dad and
- 31:54Carl from Oz recently and I was like, all right, I mean, I got
- 31:58to make sure that I can make it home, you know?
- 32:01So it it, yeah, as I've gotten older, there's definitely
- 32:05certain things that I just, my body doesn't like, I guess.
- 32:12Yeah, I'm trying to lose about 15 lbs.
- 32:17And so I had to force myself to not eat that entire bag in one
- 32:20sitting. And so I'd take like, I'd take
- 32:23like 8 or 10 of them and eat those and then try to leave the
- 32:27rest of them for the next day. Yeah.
- 32:31Inevitably I couldn't, though. And I would eat like 20 of them
- 32:34in one sitting. And then I'd be like, I still
- 32:36want to eat the rest of them. What is like if you walked down
- 32:41the snack aisle and and you were by yourself and nobody was
- 32:46looking, you know, and nobody knew what you're about to grab,
- 32:50but you were going to grab something that occasionally, you
- 32:53know, maybe every few months you go one of those please, besides
- 33:00the circus peanut, what are some of the go to go to items?
- 33:07So I have a a local corner store that I love.
- 33:09I'm a junk food junkie and there's this local corner store
- 33:14that has a lot of lot of great junk foods.
- 33:17And I love the golden Oreo and peanut buttercup sandwich.
- 33:22I love nutty bars, Little Debbie nutty bars and Swiss cake rolls,
- 33:29or now they're just called Swiss rolls.
- 33:30I think a really underrated Little Debbie snack, by the way,
- 33:34is the Zebra cakes. Very underrated.
- 33:38I love ice cream. I love chips and dip.
- 33:41Of course. I think it's Frito Lay French
- 33:45onion dip with. Like brothels?
- 33:48I like the jalapeno cheddar can. Yes, that's stuff.
- 33:54That's that's what I'm talking. About it's insane.
- 33:56Now I got to throw this out there because as I asked you, my
- 34:01little secret thing that I get and then I eat on the way home
- 34:04and then, you know, I hide the wrapper under the seat so nobody
- 34:07sees it along the lines of the nutty bar.
- 34:11I'm hoping that you've had this before, but the Reese's sticks,
- 34:17which are basically nutty bars, but they're not low quality
- 34:22nutty bars. They're like.
- 34:24Well hang on a second, are you saying Little Debbie is low
- 34:26quality nutty bar? Well, they're not high quality.
- 34:30So the, the, I mean, come on, Little Debbie, Nutty bars are
- 34:35like, I mean, they're like the Walmart of nutty bars, right?
- 34:40No, good Lord. My wife's are not my wife.
- 34:44My daughter said something the other day.
- 34:46I want to get your take on this and then we'll wrap this up.
- 34:49She said ham is the Walmart of meats.
- 34:56What is your take on that? Ham is the Walmart of meats.
- 35:01Now I have to 1st preface it by saying this.
- 35:04I've giggled about that comment at least 80 times since Easter
- 35:11when it was when it was said. How do you feel about ham is the
- 35:15Walmart of meats? I think that's a brilliant
- 35:18quote. I, I love it.
- 35:23I, I, I'd like any noun is the something bad of noun family.
- 35:30I like that format of a joke, but I think Turkey would be the
- 35:35Walmart of meats. Who likes Turkey?
- 35:37It only comes out of Thanksgiving and nobody really
- 35:39wants it. They're just feeling like they
- 35:41need to have it because it's Thanksgiving.
- 35:43US tradition. Do you not eat like Turkey
- 35:45sandwiches? No Turkey's trash.
- 35:48Wait a second, so when you go to like the deli and you get a deli
- 35:52sandwich or you go to like the Subway or I don't know what they
- 35:55have out where you are, like Jersey Mike's or something,
- 35:58which sandwich do you get? Ham.
- 36:02Oh my gosh, are you serious? That's unbelievable.
- 36:07I love a good ham and cheese sandwich.
- 36:10I have ever since I was a little kid.
- 36:12I love tuna. So you've chosen the two worst
- 36:16choices so far. A good chicken salad.
- 36:21Oh my gosh, it's awful. It's absolutely awful choices,
- 36:30Mike. Like those are the three worst
- 36:33things. Did you say chicken salad?
- 36:38Tell me egg salad is next. Is that the next one?
- 36:41Egg salad sandwich. Egg salad is not even allowed in
- 36:44my house. Oh.
- 36:45Good. It's horrific.
- 36:47OK, but but chicken salad is wonderful a good.
- 36:52Chicken salad, like the place that I work makes a really good
- 36:55chicken salad. I don't usually.
- 36:57Get Mayo based. I don't like Mayo to me.
- 37:02Mayo to me is like milk. It's in the milk family.
- 37:06But when it's used as a binding agent for tuna or chicken salad,
- 37:10it can be, it can, it can mix and be really good.
- 37:14When I go to like the church picnic and there's like egg
- 37:19salad or like chicken salad, I, I skip it and I immediately
- 37:23think to myself, well, I don't want to get food poisoning
- 37:26today, so I'm just going to go to the next thing.
- 37:30Yeah, potato salad too. How has pastrami not been
- 37:35mentioned Pastrami. I've never had pastrami.
- 37:41What is? What is actually happening?
- 37:45Did you just say you've never had pastrami?
- 37:48You've never had pastrami. Do they not have that in New
- 37:53England? They have that in New York.
- 37:55What are you talking? About sports car and clubhouse
- 37:58reaction GIFs of Greg reacting to my food takes.
- 38:01We could make a legit like Instagram reel about my reaction
- 38:07as to what you're saying today. You've never had pastrami?
- 38:10Adam, if you can figure out how to turn Greg into a GIF on
- 38:13several of these reactions, then I think we have a winner.
- 38:16Look at this. Yes.
- 38:18Pastrami with mustard and lettuce and tomato is like say
- 38:26that again. I hate mustard.
- 38:30What do you put on your hot dog? Ketchup.
- 38:32What do you ate? What?
- 38:38What? I don't even know who you are
- 38:39anymore. Who am I talking to?
- 38:41What are they done? You don't like mustard?
- 38:44No, I also I don't eat roast beef I Roast beef is fine.
- 38:50My wife loves roast beef. I.
- 38:52Never had pastrami and you don't like roast beef?
- 38:55No, I didn't. I didn't say I don't like roast
- 38:57beef. It's fine.
- 38:57I would never choose it though. I mean roast beef and provolone
- 39:05on sourdough. Yeah, never had.
- 39:08Salad living You've never had sourdough?
- 39:11A month ago I had it for the first time ever.
- 39:13Yeah, oops. You You had sourdough bread for
- 39:21the first time in your life a month ago.
- 39:24That's right, yeah. We're from the same country,
- 39:30right? We're both from the United
- 39:33States of America. Yeah, it says it's sour.
- 39:36Why would I want something sour? Why would I want bread that's
- 39:38sour? I'm from the San Francisco area,
- 39:42you know, and that's where you know, the, the sourdough thing
- 39:46is, but it may, is this a regional thing?
- 39:49Please tell me down below in the comments if sourdough is a
- 39:52regional thing or if it, if I, I don't know what to say at this
- 39:59point. I I'm I've learned a lot about
- 40:03you today. You are discovering what every
- 40:05team I've ever worked on has discovered.
- 40:08And then it becomes this thing where like, yeah, I'm, I'm
- 40:17weird. I eat weird things.
- 40:20No, I don't try on your things. It's.
- 40:21Fine, it's fine. I I still adore you.
- 40:24I still love you. I just I just am surprised.
- 40:29I'm surprised today. So I'm.
- 40:31Also surprised that you still like me.
- 40:34I still like you. I do.
- 40:38I do have a quote though from Mike Petty that seems
- 40:42appropriate right now. If it looks like a duck and
- 40:45walks like a duck, maybe it's a duck.
- 40:49Like 10 quotes are the best the. Kaboomies.
- 40:53And then we got, we got in here your buddy, your buddy's got a
- 40:56quote in here. That Will Grier right now is
- 40:59about four times better of an investment than Kyler Murray.
- 41:06Not my buddy. Huh.
- 41:08Not my buddy, won't even come on my channel.
- 41:12I think he should come on your channel because everybody who's
- 41:15come on your channel, you've treated fairly, you've given
- 41:18opportunity, you've done a great job with it.
- 41:22Thank you. Are you upset right now?
- 41:26No, I'm, I want Jeff to come on, let me interview him.
- 41:30I will agree to his face. I will tell him to his face that
- 41:32I think he's bad for the hobby. But I do think that he does good
- 41:36things and I will let him, you know, just like I did with
- 41:43anybody else I've had on, just like I'm going to do with the C3
- 41:45grading guy. I'm going to tell him I think
- 41:48you are scamming people. But he also tell, told me
- 41:52privately that he is 100% sure that that car, that Babe Ruth is
- 41:56real. So I'm going to let him come on
- 41:59and tell me why he thinks it's so real.
- 42:03You are a very fair interviewer. You let people speak.
- 42:08You let them share their thoughts.
- 42:10You don't paint them into corners and then badger them.
- 42:15You you give them a platform, but you ask the questions that
- 42:19people want to know and that's that's a good interview is you.
- 42:23You let people, you let the person speak for themselves, but
- 42:27answer the things that everybody wants to hear about.
- 42:30And you do a great job with that.
- 42:32And it's one of the reasons why, yeah, I think that the teapot
- 42:36videos you've done so far have been great when you had have had
- 42:40Chris Sewell or Boston Card Hunter and all these guys, they
- 42:43do really well because you're really good at that.
- 42:46It's one of your strengths. I appreciate that.
- 42:48Thank you. Yeah, I mean it too.
- 42:51All right. Well, snacks, meats, megabits
- 43:00come to. Maine, I'll bring you to a a
- 43:04legitimate Italian sandwich shop.
- 43:07What? A real Italian sandwich.
- 43:10And what am I going to find there?
- 43:13Like quick? I mean, we're 43 minutes, but I
- 43:16want to you're you've just, you've just thrown out the bait
- 43:18and I'm I'm in ham. And cheese, ham and cheese and
- 43:23Pickles and some vegetables and tomatoes and things like that.
- 43:29I would love that, and I will I I'm sure I would love that, but
- 43:33I don't think I would love it as much as a pastrami sandwich from
- 43:38New York City with lots of mustard.
- 43:41Lots. OK.
- 43:44All good. All right, Well, the world's
- 43:48problems solved. Check.
- 43:52I mean, that's. It we do it every week.
- 43:55Every once a week, off we go. We're good at it.
