- 0:00Speaker 1: It's absolutely going to be spectacular theater. And I know
- 0:06Speaker 1: that she's anxious for what's going to happen, and so
- 0:09Speaker 1: joining us is Representative Cat Cammick from Florida's third District.
- 0:15Speaker 1: How excited are you for the theater that will be
- 0:18Speaker 1: the State of the Union.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I am very excited. I have had to sit through
- 0:25Speaker 2: four years of Joe Biden, and so tonight is going
- 0:30Speaker 2: to be about redemption and talking about the potential and
- 0:35Speaker 2: exceptionalism of America. And I know we're also excited. What
- 0:39Speaker 2: I am not looking forward to is the jockeying for
- 0:41Speaker 2: seats that will inevitably begin at five o'clock tonight. It
- 0:46Speaker 2: gets a little silly in there sometimes, and the lengths
- 0:50Speaker 2: that people will go to it's a little nuts. But yeah,
- 0:53Speaker 2: it's going to be a great night. I'm very excited.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Okay, now, hold on, hold on, let's not brush past
- 0:58Speaker 1: that for a second. Here, tell us more. Come on, now,
- 1:03Speaker 1: let's let's kind of do it. Let's do a little
- 1:05Speaker 1: inside Congress thing here. Come on.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Oh gosh, all right, Well you'll find out when you
- 1:10Speaker 2: turn on the television cameras tonight. So there's you know,
- 1:13Speaker 2: we've all seen it In the movies, there's this main
- 1:17Speaker 2: aisle where the sergeant at arms. When the president comes in,
- 1:21Speaker 2: the sergeant at arms announces to the chamber you know, uh,
- 1:26Speaker 2: mister speaker, the President of the United States, and the
- 1:29Speaker 2: whole chamber like comes up and is roaring, and.
- 1:31Speaker 3: It's like, ah, well, what people don't know, okay, is
- 1:35Speaker 3: they have embedded mics in this particular aisle, and so
- 1:40Speaker 3: the hot there's always a hot mic.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And what members some members do, we'll say, is they
- 1:46Speaker 2: will lie seat and shield a seat and oh my gosh,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I haven't had coffee, Lie feel and cheat. That is
- 1:54Speaker 2: what I'm getting at to get into the seat that
- 1:58Speaker 2: is closest to that aisle. And I'll never forget. Even
- 2:02Speaker 2: if it was a Democrat president, you know, you had
- 2:04Speaker 2: Republicans that were jockeying because what they want is that
- 2:07Speaker 2: shot of them leaning over and shaking the president's hand
- 2:11Speaker 2: as he walks down the aisle. And so it is incredible.
- 2:15Speaker 2: People will literally lay out clothing, purses, cell phones, like
- 2:21Speaker 2: they'll start laying this stuff out throughout the day, claiming
- 2:24Speaker 2: these seats, which is kind of funny to me because
- 2:27Speaker 2: it always gets messed up. And when you get in there.
- 2:29Speaker 2: But I remember a couple of years ago, the mics
- 2:32Speaker 2: were on and Biden had come in and a colleague
- 2:37Speaker 2: of mine had started talking some pretty harsh smack, and
- 2:40Speaker 2: of course the hot mic and I got a text
- 2:44Speaker 2: message and it was from the speaker and they said,
- 2:46Speaker 2: can you please remind so and so that the mics
- 2:50Speaker 2: are hot and we have just heard that whole string
- 2:52Speaker 2: of explicives about how stupid they think the president is.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And I said, oh, yes, And so there's literally a
- 3:01Speaker 2: clip of me, you know, in the in the span archive,
- 3:05Speaker 2: of me leaning over to this gentleman being like, hey, friend,
- 3:10Speaker 2: hot Mike.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Oh.
- 3:16Speaker 1: The only time I know of anything that's like that
- 3:20Speaker 1: is the back row church. People fight for that seat
- 3:23Speaker 1: for similar reasons, I think. But US congress Woman Cat
- 3:27Speaker 1: Camick with us get to the business at hand. Next
- 3:30Speaker 1: here on the Morning Show with Preston Scott, US congress
- 3:34Speaker 1: Woman Cat Camick with us for a few minutes on
- 3:36Speaker 1: a very busy day. They're all busy days when you're
- 3:38Speaker 1: in Congress. But Congress women, thanks you as always for
- 3:42Speaker 1: making time for us. We've talked a lot this morning
- 3:45Speaker 1: about women's spaces and protecting women's sports and girls' sports
- 3:50Speaker 1: and beauty pageants and whatever else is generally, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: created as a place for women to compete or be
- 4:00Speaker 1: of exclusively for them. Why aren't we getting a law
- 4:06Speaker 1: that ties this to DNA because birth certificates isn't going
- 4:09Speaker 1: to get it done right.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It's incredibly frustrating, and as we all saw yesterday, Democrats
- 4:16Speaker 2: in the Senate took down the bills that would have
- 4:21Speaker 2: codified protecting women in girls' sports and spaces. And there's
- 4:27Speaker 2: just no rhyme or reason to it. I really think
- 4:30Speaker 2: that so much of this moment is tied into the
- 4:33Speaker 2: fact that we have an identity crisis at the core
- 4:36Speaker 2: of the Democrat Party. They can't decide if they are
- 4:41Speaker 2: going to keep leaning into the progressive left, woke nonsense,
- 4:46Speaker 2: or if they're going to go back to some sense
- 4:50Speaker 2: of common sense of you know, yes, we do protect
- 4:54Speaker 2: women's sports. But they still haven't figured that out. That's
- 4:57Speaker 2: evidenced by the fact that you had of them voting
- 5:03Speaker 2: against it. In fact, right now on Twitter, it is
- 5:06Speaker 2: trending the phrase Democrats hate women. What is so striking
- 5:12Speaker 2: to me is last year we held a press conference
- 5:16Speaker 2: in front of the Capitol talking about protecting women's sports,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I would say, in that moment, with moms and
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, aunts and all these women from around the
- 5:26Speaker 2: country that had come to talk about this issue, would
- 5:28Speaker 2: work on this issue. I would say half of them
- 5:32Speaker 2: were Democrats. And what's crazy is they would lean over
- 5:36Speaker 2: and say, listen, We're probably not going to agree on
- 5:38Speaker 2: many other topics, but on this one, like, we're all
- 5:41Speaker 2: in with you guys. And they felt such dismay at
- 5:46Speaker 2: the fact that they the Democrats had left them on
- 5:49Speaker 2: this issue. But it's just it's so sad that basically
- 5:54Speaker 2: every Democrat on the Senate side just put into the
- 6:00Speaker 2: record that they really do they hate women.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I don't know what is going to.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Happen with the last and I don't know how we
- 6:08Speaker 2: move forward if we can't even agree that little girls
- 6:11Speaker 2: should not be competing against boys. It's so sad.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Are we relying then on the United States Supreme Court
- 6:19Speaker 1: to settle this matter since the politicians won't.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I think ultimately it will get there, and I think
- 6:26Speaker 2: this is going to go into other areas where you
- 6:28Speaker 2: see now with the announcement that Trump made that there
- 6:31Speaker 2: are two genders, which I mean on common sense. Hello,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know people are saying, well, my passport has you know,
- 6:39Speaker 2: an X, and I don't have to give you my gender. Well,
- 6:42Speaker 2: that's just that's a third I do think because what
- 6:46Speaker 2: we saw here this week in the Senate it means
- 6:50Speaker 2: that this is going to be everything from the birth
- 6:52Speaker 2: certificates to the passports, to college admissions to the sports issue,
- 6:59Speaker 2: all of these things are going to have to go
- 7:01Speaker 2: to the highest court. And I do believe, given who
- 7:05Speaker 2: the makeup of the court is is that ultimately truth
- 7:08Speaker 2: will prevail. But it's just sad that we have to
- 7:11Speaker 2: have this conversation and we can't even agree on that.
- 7:15Speaker 2: If we can't agree on that, then how the heck
- 7:18Speaker 2: else are we going to get for movement on the
- 7:21Speaker 2: really really big ticket items. That's what's a little bit
- 7:24Speaker 2: concerning to me.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Do you agree it has to be DNA not birth
- 7:27Speaker 1: certificate because there's too many states that can just change
- 7:30Speaker 1: it based on the request of the person on the
- 7:32Speaker 1: birth certificate.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yes, I mean talk about one eighty that has happened
- 7:37Speaker 2: here in the last three decades. You know, the left
- 7:40Speaker 2: use is cream at us about you know, follow the science,
- 7:43Speaker 2: follow the science and who's following the science now, like,
- 7:47Speaker 2: clearly not you. I mean, the notion that there's what
- 7:50Speaker 2: ninety two genders and some nonsense. It's absurd. It is
- 7:54Speaker 2: absolutely absurd. And meanwhile, our adversaries abroad are looking at
- 7:58Speaker 2: us and saying they've lost their ever living minds. This
- 8:02Speaker 2: is a great moment for us to strike economically, militarily.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I mean, it is absolutely terrifying when you get into
- 8:09Speaker 2: the skiff and you really see and hear what's happening
- 8:12Speaker 2: around the world, and then you come out of the
- 8:14Speaker 2: skiff and you run into a Democrat colleague who wants
- 8:17Speaker 2: to talk to you about why there should be ninety
- 8:19Speaker 2: two genders. It's like, get a clue, dude, this is
- 8:24Speaker 2: a first.
- 8:25Speaker 1: You almost have to be careful saying dude.
- 8:29Speaker 2: No, I know, well, and it's you know, it's it's
- 8:32Speaker 2: just really frustrating. It is absolutely absurd that this is
- 8:36Speaker 2: the point that we are at. But I still believe
- 8:40Speaker 2: despite all the craziness, you know, people in this country
- 8:44Speaker 2: are going to experience a renaissance like we've never seen.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I've been saying this for years and now we have,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, President Trump saying this. You know about the
- 8:51Speaker 2: Golden Age. I really do believe it. But I do
- 8:55Speaker 2: also believe that, you know the saying of what is
- 8:59Speaker 2: it hard times create good men, strong men. Strong men
- 9:08Speaker 2: create good times. Good times create week men. Week men
- 9:11Speaker 2: create hard times. It's this cycle. And it's almost like
- 9:15Speaker 2: we've been so blessed in the country with just bounty
- 9:21Speaker 2: and opportunity and all these wonderful things. So many people
- 9:24Speaker 2: have sacrificed before us to give us, and we have
- 9:28Speaker 2: to manufacture problems now, Like it's just absurd. So people
- 9:33Speaker 2: are going to really enter that whole f around find
- 9:36Speaker 2: out era, and I think we're entering that place right now.
- 9:40Speaker 1: We've gotten some behind the scenes dirt on what goes
- 9:44Speaker 1: on at these speeches. I guess it's technically I've been corrected.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's not a State of the Union speech because it's
- 9:52Speaker 1: his first speech with this Congress as president. So whatever,
- 9:58Speaker 1: you've written and talked a lot about the budget process,
- 10:01Speaker 1: the reconciliation process, congresswoman, tell me just your personal thoughts
- 10:08Speaker 1: on the budget and kind of where we are. I
- 10:10Speaker 1: saw a forecast deficit of two trillion and I just
- 10:14Speaker 1: I cried mm.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And I think it's going to continue to get worse.
- 10:20Speaker 2: You know, one of the things that we have talked
- 10:22Speaker 2: at length about is the upcoming Reconciliation Bill, upcoming CR
- 10:28Speaker 2: and there's a lot of mashing of teeth over the
- 10:32Speaker 2: idea that we cut a trillion or one point five trillion,
- 10:37Speaker 2: and you know, Dari say we need to cut more.
- 10:41Speaker 2: But more than that. The one time cuts are very important,
- 10:45Speaker 2: and reducing the spending is critical. Sure, but regulatory reform
- 10:49Speaker 2: will actually handle a lot of the dysfunction in Washington.
- 10:53Speaker 2: You've heard me talk about the Reins Act. I'm like
- 10:56Speaker 2: a broken record on this. The largest regulatory reform effort
- 11:00Speaker 2: American history. It's called the Rains Act. I've been proud
- 11:04Speaker 2: to lead it for the last four years, and we've
- 11:06Speaker 2: passed it out of the House. It always dies in
- 11:08Speaker 2: the Senate. But it is the way that we drain
- 11:11Speaker 2: the swamp. And if you don't tackle regulatory reform, you're
- 11:15Speaker 2: never going to substantially get to a place of deficit
- 11:20Speaker 2: neutrality and then ultimately tackling the debt. Because what I
- 11:24Speaker 2: tell the Budget Chair and Speaker and all my colleagues
- 11:27Speaker 2: is if we can get the regulatory regime under control,
- 11:31Speaker 2: effectively draining the swamp, then what we should do is
- 11:35Speaker 2: do a structured debt repayment deal where on autopilot a
- 11:40Speaker 2: percentage and I don't care if it's a quarter of
- 11:41Speaker 2: a percent, a half of percent, a percent, it doesn't
- 11:44Speaker 2: matter to me. That's not important. What is important is
- 11:48Speaker 2: you take a percentage of GDP and you put it
- 11:52Speaker 2: on autopilot. That goes directly to paying down the principle
- 11:56Speaker 2: on our debt. Because right now the interest on our
- 11:59Speaker 2: debt outpaces what we spend on defense. Yep. So there's
- 12:03Speaker 2: never any any anything substantial to bring it down. And
- 12:08Speaker 2: if you peg it to a percentage rather than a
- 12:11Speaker 2: fixed dollar amount, it will adjust and you know, account
- 12:15Speaker 2: for the cyclical nature of the economy. So in good years,
- 12:18Speaker 2: more will go down, you know, paying down, and in
- 12:21Speaker 2: you know, tougher years there will be less. But it's
- 12:24Speaker 2: still making those payments. And this is just so simple
- 12:27Speaker 2: to me because this is you know, what you're taught
- 12:28Speaker 2: when you get your first credit card is don't make
- 12:30Speaker 2: the minimum payment. But you got to keep kipping away
- 12:33Speaker 2: at it, you know, I think, what is it? Dave
- 12:34Speaker 2: Ramsey calls it the snowball message. Ye got to start somewhere.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And where does why is that dying? Who is killing it?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Of the because the Republicans are in charge of the Senate,
- 12:48Speaker 1: So where is it dying in the Senate?
- 12:51Speaker 3: So the Rains Act.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Has always run into the hurdle of it can't overcome
- 12:56Speaker 2: the filibuster in the Senate, which is why we have
- 12:59Speaker 2: worked so incredibly hard to get it as part of
- 13:02Speaker 2: the reconciliation package, because reconciliation does not is not subject
- 13:07Speaker 2: to the sixty vote threshold in the Cornet correct And
- 13:10Speaker 2: so that's where we're putting a lot of eggs in
- 13:13Speaker 2: that basket. But knowing how how dysfunctional the swamp up
- 13:19Speaker 2: here really is, we're we're also looking to put the
- 13:22Speaker 2: rain fact on every appropriations bill, on a cr any
- 13:27Speaker 2: means we possibly can. We're looking to attach it to
- 13:30Speaker 2: a vehicle that is a must pass because we have
- 13:33Speaker 2: to be creative, you know. There. As much as people
- 13:35Speaker 2: want to talk about, you know, being purity of purpose
- 13:38Speaker 2: and you know, all principled, there's some chicken crap politicians
- 13:42Speaker 2: up here that have campaigned very hard on balancing the
- 13:46Speaker 2: budget and cutting government spending, but are the first one
- 13:49Speaker 2: behind a closed door to be like, oh my gosh,
- 13:52Speaker 2: I can't cut that. That's my pet project back home. No,
- 13:57Speaker 2: it's it's the same conversation about ear marks, you know,
- 14:00Speaker 2: when I'm the only Republican in Florida in the congressional
- 14:04Speaker 2: delegation that does not do ear marks, and that blows
- 14:08Speaker 2: people's minds. They're like, why don't you? And I said, well,
- 14:11Speaker 2: you support those right, Yeah, of course, and your ear
- 14:14Speaker 2: marks are any different.
- 14:16Speaker 1: How God bless you. That's why you're on this show, Kat,
- 14:21Speaker 1: because you're the only one doing it.
- 14:25Speaker 2: It's a lonely place.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know what it's it's better to be
- 14:33Speaker 1: right and unpopular than wrong and the bell of the ball. Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 1: and God bless you. Now, I'm serious. Thank you. You're
- 14:43Speaker 1: always going to have an audience here and always know
- 14:45Speaker 1: if something comes up in between our visits, you just
- 14:49Speaker 1: have atline, get me, get me word and I'm making
- 14:52Speaker 1: time for you.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Oh, you're the best. I do appreciate you more than
- 14:56Speaker 2: you know. And thanks for always sharing all the crazy
- 14:58Speaker 2: work that we're up to, especially since this week we're
- 15:01Speaker 2: gonna be dropping a bill that's a real doozy. Come on,
- 15:04Speaker 2: already mad about it?
- 15:05Speaker 1: Come on? I love it. Hey, By the way, Kat
- 15:08Speaker 1: remember the hot mics.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Oh yes, yeah, you know I might just roll in
- 15:14Speaker 2: with duct tape. You know, who knows.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I know what, if you've got a spot, just just
- 15:20Speaker 1: put put my name out there on the hot mic.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Just don't say Scott Preston. Okay, just don't do that.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Hey, that's what happens when you're given two first names.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I know I've got three. In fact, I got three
- 15:38Speaker 1: first and three last. Kat, You're the best. Thanks so much,
- 15:40Speaker 1: be well, appreciate it, Thank you, all right, Kat Camick
- 15:44Speaker 1: with us? Do you hear that? Only one? And I
- 15:48Speaker 1: know it. I've been fighting for people in Congress to say, no,
- 15:52Speaker 1: we're not taking pork in our district. We can't do it.
- 15:56Speaker 1: She's the only one, and that's why she's a guest
- 16:02Speaker 1: on the Morning Show with Preston Scott
