- 0:00So he is thinking, you guys.
- 0:04Rough times.
- 0:05Leaving people concerned about what's going to happen
- 0:09when the last of the old man finally
- 0:11sinks below the deep blue surface of greater lake.
- 0:15Yeah, we should probably be checking on that.
- 0:19Listen, OK, keep your eye on that old man wood.
- 0:23Yes, everyone, keep your eye on all of the old man wood.
- 0:27Make sure it doesn't catch you off guard.
- 0:29Hi, Caitlyn.
- 0:42Hi, Cassie.
- 0:43Hi, creepy people.
- 0:45Hello.
- 0:47Well, that was weird.
- 0:48I know.
- 0:49Did you see where I went this way?
- 0:50Like, maybe someone is lurking in the corner watching us.
- 0:55We literally put her in the corner too.
- 0:58Nobody puts baby in a corner.
- 1:01Is that what we're calling, Taylyn?
- 1:02Now her nickname is Baby.
- 1:05Well, she does have like the fresh, faced skin of a fetus.
- 1:11She does.
- 1:12She does.
- 1:13She's trying so hard not to make any noise.
- 1:15You can make noise.
- 1:16It's OK.
- 1:18So we have our editor in the room today.
- 1:20She's coming to visit and watch us perform and be theatrical.
- 1:24And even though Co-star told some people not to--
- 1:30Fuck that.
- 1:33I will never not be theatrical.
- 1:34Yeah.
- 1:35I do feel better about going against just strictly contradicting
- 1:41Co-star's advice.
- 1:42Now that I know it's AI, just righted.
- 1:46I feel like now that I know that a lot of things make more sense,
- 1:50I feel kind of silly for not realizing that sooner.
- 1:54But like we said earlier, it's very synchronistic.
- 1:57Yeah.
- 1:58The day actually I dyed my hair, it said, change your hair.
- 2:03Isn't that weird?
- 2:05I feel like it is.
- 2:06And I was like, God, you got this.
- 2:09God.
- 2:09Co-star.
- 2:11Well, anyway, we will do another episode later with Taylyn
- 2:15and so you guys can get to know her.
- 2:17Now that I've said it on the record, she has to do it
- 2:19and she can't get out of it.
- 2:22Right.
- 2:23But in case you didn't know, if you're new here,
- 2:25this is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where
- 2:28we chat about True Crime, the Paranormal,
- 2:30and all things spooky in the Pacific Northwest.
- 2:35Because we live here.
- 2:36That's correct.
- 2:37Also, sometimes we call it the PNW, because we're nasty.
- 2:41We're so nasty.
- 2:44We also do a tarot reading at the end of every episode,
- 2:47just for a little deeper insight into our topic that we do.
- 2:50OK, well, let's get started.
- 2:52So I want to talk a little bit about this cool thing
- 2:55that we have on Facebook.
- 2:57But I didn't know that we had until very recently.
- 3:00We have an episode topic suggestion chat on Facebook.
- 3:05OK, yeah.
- 3:06So I didn't know about it.
- 3:07And then I was looking around on there
- 3:09because I don't go on Facebook a lot.
- 3:10So I was like, I probably should look and just make sure
- 3:12no one's hacked me or something.
- 3:14Just in case.
- 3:18Just in case.
- 3:19It's happened before.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21So I go on there and I see that there's this little chat.
- 3:23So I joined it.
- 3:24And then one of our moderators, Natalia, she
- 3:30messaged a picture of the Ghosts of Oregon book, which
- 3:33we happened to have behind me on the shelf.
- 3:39So I was like, oh, OK, maybe I'll go peek around in that
- 3:43and try to find my next episode topics I did.
- 3:47And just for like, shits and gigs,
- 3:49I was like, hey, what's your favorite story from the book?
- 3:53Oh, just to see maybe get future ideas.
- 3:56And wouldn't you know it?
- 3:57She mentioned the very topic I had already
- 4:00planned on doing.
- 4:01Oh, she gave a couple others too.
- 4:04That's awesome.
- 4:05Yeah.
- 4:06Yeah.
- 4:06That chat is totally brand new and not something
- 4:10that I've told you about before at all.
- 4:12You sure didn't?
- 4:14If you did, I didn't remember.
- 4:15So it could have gone either way.
- 4:18You could have totally said, I told you about that.
- 4:19You dumb bitch.
- 4:20And I would have believed you.
- 4:21Yeah, I feel like that's what I'm saying.
- 4:24Oh, you did?
- 4:25Oh, so you did tell me about it.
- 4:27Yes.
- 4:28I don't remember.
- 4:29Yeah.
- 4:30God, I don't bitch.
- 4:31I can't even pick up on sarcasm.
- 4:33Sometimes it just sailed straight overhead
- 4:39to like crash lands, like a San Juan plane.
- 4:44Caitlyn, what?
- 4:47It's really creepy like you just said that.
- 4:49Well, I was just thinking about Colton Harris Moore
- 4:52because that's like recent.
- 4:54But it's still creepy.
- 4:55Why?
- 4:56You only will find out at the end of this episode.
- 4:58OK, great.
- 5:00OK, how far up into my chair should my feet be at this point?
- 5:06You're fine for a little while.
- 5:07OK, great.
- 5:10I'm pretty comfortable right now.
- 5:11I'd really rather not move.
- 5:13Yeah, it doesn't get really, really spooky until the end.
- 5:16But I guess our definitions of really
- 5:18spooky are different.
- 5:19So we'll see.
- 5:19Yeah.
- 5:21So trust no one.
- 5:24OK, so let's get into this topic that was so meant to be.
- 5:29Alrighty.
- 5:30The legend of how the magnificent Mount Mazama
- 5:34fell was passed down through generations of the Klamath
- 5:37tribes.
- 5:39Their story tells of a mighty battle
- 5:41between the spirit of the mountain,
- 5:44aka the chief of the below world.
- 5:47Oh.
- 5:47And the spirit of the sky, aka chief of the above world.
- 5:51Oh, of course.
- 5:53And like any good story, it involves a beautiful woman,
- 5:56woman, unrequited love, a shouty angry boy with too much power.
- 6:03Red pill.
- 6:04Yes, exactly.
- 6:06And the ultimate sacrifice to put an end to the destruction.
- 6:10Oh no.
- 6:11So basically they came up with a story
- 6:13about how these gods were fighting to kind of explain
- 6:16this eruption collapse of this mountain.
- 6:18OK.
- 6:20I really don't like that.
- 6:21I don't like Greek mythology where the gods are sort of--
- 6:27like they're far more human.
- 6:29And they're like kind of amongst us.
- 6:31And they have feelings and emotions.
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:34Like they do shit.
- 6:36That's like sometimes really fucked up.
- 6:37And you're like, that doesn't seem super gaudy.
- 6:42They're a bunch of shouty angry boys.
- 6:43They don't get their way.
- 6:44And they fuck shit up.
- 6:45I don't like that at all.
- 6:48I really-- I prefer my new testament, super chill, Jesus vibe.
- 6:57I want-- that's the Judeo Christian.
- 7:01I'm comfortable with that.
- 7:02I mean, they still fuck shit up.
- 7:04I mean, that's true.
- 7:05There's a lot of-- yeah, shouting angry boys involved in that, too.
- 7:08I mean, that's fair.
- 7:10I just don't like it when they're like,
- 7:12I'm just going to be a dick today.
- 7:14And I'm here right next to you.
- 7:16So--
- 7:17But they have to come up with something
- 7:19to explain all these natural disasters that
- 7:22are completely devastating to their people, too.
- 7:25Can you imagine like this giant eruption just
- 7:29faking up your whole life?
- 7:31And then like, how do you explain that, you know?
- 7:33I feel like the problem is exactly that I can imagine it.
- 7:37And I would like not to.
- 7:38Yeah.
- 7:39I can't believe I'm talking about another volcano.
- 7:41I know.
- 7:42I don't know why this-- that's a--
- 7:44Kind of one of your bugaboos.
- 7:45I don't like it.
- 7:46But this one's cool.
- 7:48So roughly 8,000 years ago, Mount Mazama erupted
- 7:52and collapsed, leaving behind a caldera,
- 7:55that eventually filled with rain and melted snow.
- 7:59The ghost of this once magnificent mountain is now called
- 8:03Crater Lake.
- 8:05Oh.
- 8:06Have you been there?
- 8:08I don't think so.
- 8:09No?
- 8:10It's one of the only truly classic Oregon experiences
- 8:15that I don't think I've ever had.
- 8:16It's just really far.
- 8:18It really-- I don't know how far it is
- 8:20because I was a kid when I went.
- 8:21But it is--
- 8:22Oh, my.
- 8:22So classic that it's on our freaking license plates, right?
- 8:25Like, if you get a Crater Lake license plate--
- 8:27Sure can.
- 8:29I'm not going to.
- 8:29But you can.
- 8:30I want one.
- 8:31I've always wanted one.
- 8:32But then I was like, wait, no, because I like the tree.
- 8:34I like the trees.
- 8:35Here's no how I feel about trees.
- 8:37Yeah.
- 8:37She's going to--
- 8:39Tree hugger.
- 8:41Yeah, don't call me a treefucker again.
- 8:42I mean--
- 8:44I'm not going to say that I wasn't thinking it, but--
- 8:49My camera's being weird.
- 8:51What's it doing?
- 8:52It's slow.
- 8:56Should we stop and restart?
- 8:57I don't know.
- 8:58OK, stop your thing.
- 9:01OK, well, lesson learned.
- 9:02Don't piss off the gods, Caitlyn.
- 9:04Oh, yeah, totally my fault.
- 9:07You might see some technical difficulties in Cassie's
- 9:11video.
- 9:13We had this thing.
- 9:14Switch laptops.
- 9:16It's been a whole thing.
- 9:17Apparently, I can't touch my laptop because it's haunted
- 9:20as fuck.
- 9:21Yeah.
- 9:21But you're totally right.
- 9:22It was me.
- 9:24You pissed off the gods.
- 9:25You said you didn't like them, and this is why this is happening.
- 9:28And it picks on you in exchange.
- 9:31That's interesting.
- 9:32Yeah.
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:34OK.
- 9:35It knew the soft spot, and it just--
- 9:37It goes pretty underbelly.
- 9:39Yes.
- 9:39Yeah.
- 9:40I am the underbelly of this equation.
- 9:44So anyway, we're using Chris' laptop,
- 9:46and it's not at all connected to mine.
- 9:48But if I touch my laptop, that's behind it.
- 9:51The video fucks up.
- 9:53Explain this to me.
- 9:54Technology people.
- 9:56OK, so we're going to--
- 9:57We're going to--
- 9:58Everyone pray for us.
- 10:00That's embrace.
- 10:01That's embrace.
- 10:03Pray to the nice gods for us.
- 10:05OK, so where was I?
- 10:07So this is located in the Cascades in Southwest Oregon.
- 10:11For those of you who have never seen the lake
- 10:13and haven't seen pictures on our social media before listening
- 10:17to this, it is ba-lue.
- 10:20Baloo.
- 10:21It is so blue.
- 10:23Like, the blue is blue that ever blued.
- 10:26You know?
- 10:26Yeah.
- 10:27OK.
- 10:27So I'm sensing a theme with the lights.
- 10:31Yeah, it makes the blue lights.
- 10:33OK.
- 10:33OK.
- 10:34Even some of the first proposed names for the lake
- 10:38were mystery lake, deep blue lake, and lake majesty.
- 10:44Oh.
- 10:45So it's very like otherworldly--
- 10:48The old majesty.
- 10:49And I have some very fun photos that I'm going to text to you guys.
- 10:56They're really old.
- 10:57They're photos from--
- 10:59[LAUGHTER]
- 10:59Cassie was a little kid with her little baby brother.
- 11:03Just a baby.
- 11:04At crater lake with her family.
- 11:07Oh.
- 11:08Wow.
- 11:08Yeah, it is.
- 11:10Baloo.
- 11:10So blue.
- 11:11These are like scanned actual photos that were developed
- 11:15from film, you guys.
- 11:16OK.
- 11:17I'm just like laughing at my outfit,
- 11:19because I'm wearing like blue camo pants
- 11:23and like a blue shirt that I'm pretty sure was my mom's.
- 11:26Oh, yeah.
- 11:27That's a classic look.
- 11:29And I think these are like zip off pants.
- 11:31I think they zip off into capris.
- 11:34But we'll definitely have to share those pictures
- 11:36with you guys, because they're funny.
- 11:38I think so.
- 11:40So why is this lake so blue?
- 11:42Well, I'll tell you, because I Google it.
- 11:44Oh, OK.
- 11:45Well, for starters, she's real deep, like real deep.
- 11:49The caldera depression is about 4,000 feet deep.
- 11:53That's too many.
- 11:54And the maximum depth of the lake recorded in 2000
- 11:58is 1,949 feet.
- 12:01So that's still like really, really deep for a lake.
- 12:05I'm actually--
- 12:06I'm comfortable with both of those numbers, actually.
- 12:09Actually.
- 12:11It's actually the deepest lake in the United States.
- 12:15OK, that tracks.
- 12:16Yeah.
- 12:16And it's like one of the deepest in the world, too.
- 12:18So she's a pretty big deal.
- 12:20It's just not that deep, you know?
- 12:23Crater Lake would disagree with you.
- 12:24I don't want to stir if I with her.
- 12:27The water is also incredibly clean and clear,
- 12:30since it's like rain and snow melt.
- 12:33It's very clear water.
- 12:35And there's very little pollution up there.
- 12:38And I'm going to read a quote from the Oregon Explorer.
- 12:43Ooh.
- 12:44That will kind of explain the situation better
- 12:46than I could in my own words.
- 12:48OK.
- 12:49Quote.
- 12:50Sunlight is able to penetrate deep into the water.
- 12:54The depth absorbs many of the longer rays
- 12:57and reflecting the shorter rays of the white light spectrum.
- 13:02Red light is the longest wavelength,
- 13:04thus gets absorbed.
- 13:06Violet and blue light are the shortest wavelengths,
- 13:10thus gets scattered and reflected back to us.
- 13:13Oh, OK.
- 13:14Scienced.
- 13:15Scienced.
- 13:16Yeah, so that kind of is why it's so blue,
- 13:19because it's so deep that all of the other colors
- 13:22just get absorbed into the water and don't reflect back.
- 13:25Before our technology was so advanced
- 13:27that we could actually measure like with the--
- 13:30what's it?
- 13:31Sonar?
- 13:32Oh, OK.
- 13:32Yeah, yeah.
- 13:33The lake was thought to be bottomless,
- 13:35because no one--
- 13:36Oh, of course.
- 13:36--if we find the bottom of it.
- 13:38You could dig your way to China.
- 13:39Exactly.
- 13:41Does it go through the other side of the world?
- 13:43That's the vibe.
- 13:44Just keep going.
- 13:45It's just going--
- 13:46it's like Mel's Hole.
- 13:47Yeah.
- 13:48Haste. Oh. Oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh. Last from the past. The Klamath people even thought of it as like a gateway to the underworld because the whole, you know, the god fighting situation where the chief of the mountain was like the god of the underworld, or the chief of the underworld. I said that backwards but you guys know what I mean.
- 14:11And they treated it as a sacred space. Okay. And some believe you shouldn't even gaze upon the water's hypnotic surface. She says after she texts us like multiple pictures of it.
- 14:24They're pictures though. They're not you're not in person. It's different. Okay. Well, suddenly I'm feeling super okay about never having been.
- 14:34But like the water is it's hypnotic, but it's kind of a darker blue than Hpnotiq though. Yeah. I mean Hpnotiq blue. Yeah. It's like a much lighter blue. It's more of like a tropical like white sand beach kind of a blue.
- 14:49I think the blue color can kind of change depending on. Yeah.
- 14:54It can go a little lighter, a little darker, but I don't think it would go that light. Yeah. Anyway, back to our story. Right. It was thought that if you gaze too long at the lake, you eventually wouldn't be able to look away. Oh, great.
- 15:08Kind of like when you look at my face. And then I wrote in parentheses in like dark blue. The sentence is going to be really hard to say but make a traumatic.
- 15:19I don't know. Not supposed to be theatrical. You got I'm fucking dead. How did my horoscope know? I can't see if I can get this out on the first try.
- 15:27The stunningly beautiful, but equally deadly depths would lure you to your death.
- 15:34Oh, wow.
- 15:36I actually got it though. I said it the first time you did. And that I feel like right now like my body needs to burp and
- 15:47it made me so nervous. I'm like grasping myself like, yeah, we're going to come back to this topic a little later on. Oh, okay.
- 16:00So this is super unfortunately on theme for Thanksgiving. What?
- 16:05So when we came and you know, we did that thing where we kind of took all of the land from the people that that already lived here. Yeah.
- 16:14You remember when that happened. Yeah. So there was a treaty that was signed that was supposed to allow the Klamath tribes to keep the land where Crater Lake was.
- 16:25Oh, no.
- 16:27Yeah. And then I guess the lake was too alluring. And we're just like, nah, we got to have it. You guys can't have it. We know we signed a treaty but we're going to take it anyway.
- 16:39You have enough land. You know, we gave you we gave you some you're fine. Yeah. Great. So they took this sacred space.
- 16:47Oh, no.
- 16:49People who really respected it. But you know, at least we turn it into a national park. So that kind of I think that came a lot later.
- 16:58Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, a lot after yeah, after they found it. But at least we made it one. So we have like some sort of respect for the land.
- 17:07Yeah. Yeah. Great. That's why we call it Turkey day now. Yeah.
- 17:13No, you think well, your land didn't get stolen from you day. Oh, boy.
- 17:20Wait, I'm sorry. What land?
- 17:22I know. Okay. I guess. Yeah. We don't really have any other makes you feel better. Generations later. We also have no land.
- 17:32Not the same. Not going to equate those but, uh, wow. And I guess they can take it from you. If you owe money of some sort.
- 17:40I can still just get your land taken away from you. Also eminent domain. So just like nothing is safe or secure ever.
- 17:48And we're just entering a period of time when the conservatives have taken over everything that holds our country together.
- 17:57And I'm sure that will be fine in 1853. John Hillman, along with two other men, we're searching for the last cabin gold mine, which sounds like really cool. I don't know why.
- 18:11I want to go searching for the lost cabin gold mine. It's always a john. You know, yeah. Those very common name is still this. Yeah. Hillman or John, if you're nice.
- 18:23And of course we are. So, so John with the help of his donkey became the first white man to discover crater lake. Don't get donkey. Don't get.
- 18:39I can just imagine like their whole journey up there was like track. It was like tracking. Yeah. Yeah. And then all of a sudden he gets to the top and he is like, wow.
- 18:50This must be what Christopher Columbus felt like I discovered something. Yeah. Let me just stuff.
- 18:58Boy, so he's to be clear, the first white man to discover it. Not the first person to discover at all by a long shot.
- 19:07Not by like a lot. No.
- 19:10One source said that he saw a snow white deer with pink eyes on his way there. And I'm like, really care for that. Was that a good omen or a warning?
- 19:20I feel like that's a valid question. Like I would need to be there and like feel the vibe. Yeah. Cause a pink deer or not a pink deer, a white deer with pink eyes would be like, could feel like kind of cute. And I think it would be cute.
- 19:34We're going to need a vibe check on aisle three.
- 19:40Let's go back to 8253 and find john and his donkey and go get the vibe check. Yeah. I feel like if I'm time traveling.
- 19:47I just may have other pressing things to do. Yeah. Currently, but that's true. Yeah. Well, I'll be a crater like you can go do whatever you want. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay.
- 19:58We just get like a pass and then we both can go and do the things we need. Yeah. And then we'll meet up four years from now. Yeah. Okay.
- 20:08That sounds about right. Yeah. Yeah. Oh goodness. In the 90s, there were some earthquakes that emanated from the previously thought to be dormant volcano. So like in the late. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I was afraid you were going to say that. And I had a feeling that I put my left foot down a little too soon. And you know, you love it and you hate it when you're right. Yeah.
- 20:39So I don't know. It's not very clear if it's dormant or not because there's been like activity. I don't have any for you.
- 20:48I'm so keen. We'll just have to go visit and see if the ground shakes. You know, wow. You're just really living on the edge today. I know I don't like volcanoes. But for some reason, if it's filled with water, I feel okay about it. Yeah. That's totally fine.
- 21:06You know what would make this volcano super chill is if it was at the bottom of like a super deep lake with a lot of water that it could just like.
- 21:15It would be like a volcano tsunami.
- 21:18But the water will stop a lot of from coming out, right?
- 21:23Sharknado.
- 21:24Like it is. It's sharknado. It's the sharknado. There's the sharknado of natural disasters. And I for one will not be here for it.
- 21:35Sir, no sharks in the lake, you guys. I'm not saying actual sharks. I'm just saying it's this crazy hybrid that like I don't I don't need that.
- 21:43Well, do you want to move on to something that's kind of more interesting and sciencey real quick before we get into some other stuff?
- 21:49I'm tempted to say yes.
- 21:53Crater Lake has no inner out. So it doesn't have like rivers going into it. Nothing is flowing out of it. Yet there's always rainfall like new rainfall and snow melt.
- 22:04But it never overflows despite having twice as much precipitation as evaporation.
- 22:11Suspicious. Yeah.
- 22:15I thought that was like kind of interesting because this was like never really a thought for me. I was just like, oh yeah, it evaporates and it falls back down like that's how it happens.
- 22:23But then I read like the twice.
- 22:25It's like surrounded by trees though. Like is it just the trees like sucking up their like rogue greedy? No, I don't know. That's not it. I have an answer for you. Okay.
- 22:36It's because volcanic rock is quite porous.
- 22:39And so it lets enough water through all of the volcanic rock that surrounds the lake to kind of maintain the water level.
- 22:47Interesting. So that's like its own.
- 22:50I can't think of the words like a built-in like filter.
- 22:54Yeah. Yeah. It kind of has its own filter.
- 22:57Just slowly like corroding the volcanic rock, making its way to China.
- 23:04Totally. That's how science works. I mean, except, yeah, I don't know. I was going to make a joke about tariffs, but
- 23:11So crater lake is open all year round. You can go visit it.
- 23:16And I imagine in the winter, you'll want to plan accordingly.
- 23:20Have the necessary like winter mountain hiking stuff with you.
- 23:25Chains, chains, make sure you're warm enough. You have enough water.
- 23:30Stuff like that. Don't get don't get stuck in the snow because, um, spoiler alert that has happened.
- 23:36And you can drive around the lake to or take a trolley tour.
- 23:41And there's of course hiking and glorious viewpoints all around.
- 23:46There are some unique islands and crater lake.
- 23:49A love it. On the west side of the lake is wizard island.
- 23:54A door, a double.
- 23:56And no, it's not a Harry Potter theme park.
- 23:59Well, that's okay. I feel like at this point, we've all decided as a society that we're just not really wanting to send any more money.
- 24:09JK's way. Oh no, I will send. I'm sorry. I'm not giving up my Harry Potter.
- 24:14You can cancel me if you want to. I don't like her as a person, but you're not taking Harry Potter from me.
- 24:19Oh no. No one's it's in the ether. So it exists.
- 24:23I will go to wizard island and make sure it's not a Harry Potter theme park for everyone.
- 24:28Okay, just to be just to be sure. I haven't checked.
- 24:31That's your crossbar now.
- 24:34But it is a volcanic cinder cone that looks like a wizard hat.
- 24:41Oh, and I did send you a picture of it. It is in one of my pictures.
- 24:46I feel like that looks more like a, like a little miniature mountain or volcano.
- 24:50I wouldn't have pictured a wizard's hat wizard hat.
- 24:54I know. Right? Like this was named so long ago and they thought of a wizard's hat, but okay.
- 25:00What I want to know is like how far that is from the bank.
- 25:04Because as you know, I have an overriding desire to climb the islands when I'm near a body of water.
- 25:16It is not attached. You do have to take a boat there.
- 25:21Okay, so it's pretty far. So it's not like that other picture that I have where I'm like, I climbed it.
- 25:27And you're not you're not allowed to swim in there like you're without like permits.
- 25:31So I think I maybe talk about this later. I'm not sure.
- 25:34Yeah, you don't want to go swim in there because it's like a very fragile ecosystem.
- 25:39It's very clean. They don't want. They don't want.
- 25:41It's a national heart. That makes sense. Yeah. Yeah.
- 25:44And some people think that wizard island is haunted.
- 25:50People say they see campfires and or smoke on the island.
- 25:54But when ranger search the island for trespassers because you're definitely not supposed to go there at night.
- 26:00They don't find anyone there when they go to search for these campfires that they're seeing.
- 26:07Okay.
- 26:07And more importantly, they don't find any like fires left behind.
- 26:13They don't find any extinguish. They find no evidence of any fires or anyone being there.
- 26:19Cause no one's just like chilling out right island. Yeah.
- 26:22That would be kind of weird if they were. It's very remote.
- 26:26Is it weird or is it like a thing that we all want to do?
- 26:30I mean, it might be.
- 26:32So they do both for us to the island.
- 26:35So you can go to the island on a boat.
- 26:37So you can actually go and like set foot on the island. Yeah.
- 26:41Okay. I don't think you're supposed to take your own boat out there.
- 26:44I think you have to know that makes sense.
- 26:46Take their tour or you have to get a permit or something to dive there.
- 26:50It's a national park.
- 26:51They don't have like a boat launch.
- 26:53They're like, there is our boat.
- 26:55And that's the boat that you can go on.
- 26:57Yeah. Thank you.
- 26:59And you're welcome.
- 27:00And you definitely can't stay there.
- 27:02You can't camp overnight or anything like that.
- 27:04So there should literally be nobody out there.
- 27:06Yeah.
- 27:07So scene fires is weird.
- 27:09I'm like, are they fires though?
- 27:12Or are they like?
- 27:14Are they lights? Because they say sometimes they see smoke with no fire.
- 27:18Or like, what is that?
- 27:20Like the monster from last.
- 27:23Yeah. That's kind of what I was thinking.
- 27:26It's a smoke monster.
- 27:27Okay.
- 27:28You saw one of those recently.
- 27:30Yeah.
- 27:30And it was totally fine.
- 27:31And everybody just moved on and talked about it.
- 27:35Talked about it again.
- 27:36What?
- 27:39There's another island on the southeast side of the lake called
- 27:43Phantom ship Island.
- 27:45That doesn't sound like probably the island I would pick.
- 27:50That's like fun.
- 27:51You don't want to go on a ship.
- 27:53Phantom ship.
- 27:54A phantom ship that you have to get on a ship to go out to Phantom ship.
- 28:00You're not seeing a problem with that.
- 28:03So this was volcanic cone that formed in the shape of a ship.
- 28:10And they call it Phantom because it can appear to disappear at certain angles,
- 28:16depending on the weather.
- 28:18Yeah.
- 28:18Yeah.
- 28:18That makes sense.
- 28:19So it is not like land really.
- 28:22It's kind of just like pointed up like rocks just like in like
- 28:26abtruision.
- 28:27Yeah.
- 28:28Like this.
- 28:28You know, that feels like a word.
- 28:31All right.
- 28:33There's something else about the lake.
- 28:35That does sound truly spooky in all of the ways.
- 28:39Hmm.
- 28:40The old man of the lake.
- 28:42Okay.
- 28:45But it's not really how it sounds.
- 28:48So this old man is actually a log from a hemlock tree that floats upright
- 28:55around the lake.
- 28:56Okay.
- 28:57There is three feet sticking out of the water, leaving the rest of its 30 feet
- 29:03below water.
- 29:04So he just literally bobs around like this in the lake all day.
- 29:07Okay.
- 29:08I mean, the whole time you were talking about this and I just want you to
- 29:13picture this because it wasn't a very long sentence, but I'm just like,
- 29:17get off my lawn the entire time in my head on a loop.
- 29:21Honestly, that's kind of the old man's vibe.
- 29:24Oh, great.
- 29:25Okay.
- 29:25You see you picked up on it.
- 29:27Okay.
- 29:28But I wrote this is a real iceberg situation because it's got like three
- 29:32feet sticking out and like 27 feet down below.
- 29:36Down below.
- 29:37Yeah.
- 29:39Was it just chill in there?
- 29:40Dude, nobody knows.
- 29:42We'll talk about it.
- 29:43So the first recorded sighting of the old man was in 1896,
- 29:48but tests of the log show that he is at least 450 years old.
- 29:53So he could be older.
- 29:55Super chill.
- 29:57I'm fine with that.
- 29:58And that doesn't necessarily mean he's been floating for 450 years.
- 30:02They just, they almost test it.
- 30:04Worst, just like the log is that old.
- 30:06So they don't actually know how long he's been floating for.
- 30:09Nobody knows why or how the old man stays afloat.
- 30:14There's no roots weighing it down like they see.
- 30:17They see in other places as like there's these trees that will float,
- 30:21but they have like large root systems holding them in place.
- 30:24This one doesn't have that.
- 30:26Okay.
- 30:26So I don't like that.
- 30:28There's nothing else weighing it down.
- 30:29They think that it's possibly because it's been submerged in the cold water
- 30:34so long that it like changes the density and like helps it stay up right.
- 30:39A bunch of scientists should I like was glazing over.
- 30:42I didn't really understand.
- 30:43Yeah.
- 30:44But the point is that they don't really know why.
- 30:47That's super chill.
- 30:49It's so creepy.
- 30:50I don't.
- 30:51Okay.
- 30:52Some people think he's the spirit of the lake or a protector of the lake.
- 30:56I feel like that would explain a lot.
- 31:00Once they tried to tie up the old man to the shore so that he wouldn't cause damage to boats
- 31:07because they were doing like submarine searches under the water
- 31:10and they didn't want to like bump into the old man.
- 31:13Okay.
- 31:13So they tried to tie him up.
- 31:15It didn't go well.
- 31:17I was going to say doesn't seem like this is going to end well.
- 31:20The calm weather rapidly turned dangerous.
- 31:24And when they release the log,
- 31:28because they're like, well, we can't die now anyway.
- 31:30We might as well like release the log.
- 31:31The weather went back to normal.
- 31:33I don't think they've ever tried it again.
- 31:35Because like don't don't fuck with the gods, you guys.
- 31:38I think he's like one of like definitely a spirit watching over the lake.
- 31:46For sure.
- 31:47Yeah.
- 31:47He's like, actually, I'm in charge here.
- 31:50So I'll thank you to what's that phrase again?
- 31:54Get off my lock.
- 31:55Yes.
- 31:56See?
- 31:57You were picking up the energy.
- 31:58Wow.
- 32:00Obviously floating around in the lake isn't the most gentle of lives, as you can imagine.
- 32:07The old man's wood used to protrude like four feet above the surface.
- 32:12But his type appears to be shrinking.
- 32:15Oh no.
- 32:16You hate to see it.
- 32:18So he's gone down like a foot.
- 32:20So he is sinking you guys rough times,
- 32:24leaving people concerned about what's going to happen when the last of the old man
- 32:30finally sinks below the deep blue surface of crater lake.
- 32:35Yeah.
- 32:36We should probably be checking on that.
- 32:39Yeah.
- 32:39They're keeping an eye on it.
- 32:41Obviously it took.
- 32:42It's been there for a long time and it's it's a chunk of foot.
- 32:46So it's got three to go.
- 32:48Yeah.
- 32:49So let's do the math on that.
- 32:51Let's figure out how long he's been floating around there.
- 32:53Uh-huh.
- 32:54We don't know for sure.
- 32:55Yeah.
- 32:55Listen.
- 32:56Okay.
- 32:57Keep your eye on that old man wood.
- 32:59Yes.
- 33:00Everyone keep your eye on all of the old man wood.
- 33:03Make sure it doesn't catch you off guard.
- 33:06I'm wondering if the old man ever sinks if like that's when it's going to explode again.
- 33:14Oh.
- 33:16Yeah.
- 33:17Activation.
- 33:18Seriously.
- 33:20I don't know.
- 33:20Okay.
- 33:21So seriously though, like we say this jokingly, but then also with all seriousness,
- 33:26someone keeping eye on the old man's wood.
- 33:30Yes.
- 33:31Keep an eye on the activity.
- 33:33I'm like, I'm curious to see if as it gets lower if like the,
- 33:37yeah, the earthquake activity will pick up or are there just like changes to the ecosystem?
- 33:44Or I don't know.
- 33:45Wow.
- 33:47I'm really happy that no one has like snuck on and like trust passed and like done anything bad to him.
- 33:53I don't like,
- 33:53like, stolen him or something, you know?
- 33:55Yeah.
- 33:56That would be such a typical, but very dickish move.
- 34:01But I don't know.
- 34:02Maybe maybe people have tried and like,
- 34:04and they've failed.
- 34:06They've failed.
- 34:07Yeah.
- 34:07Oh, no.
- 34:09Well, this, this whole thing kind of made me think because there's like wood above the surface
- 34:15and there's wood below the surface.
- 34:17In the beginning, we talked about the chief of the above world, the chief of the below world.
- 34:23It kind of made me think of as above so below, like that whole relating back to that old, old, old story too for me.
- 34:32I kind of picture a sea saw.
- 34:34It's like almost a battle between the above and the below.
- 34:39I wonder if, if maybe he'll go back up to four feet or something.
- 34:43Yeah.
- 34:44Like, or if he'll just keep sinking.
- 34:45I don't know.
- 34:46There's a little bit more of a traditional haunting at crater lake lodge.
- 34:51Okay.
- 34:52A family stayed there and ended up leaving after the first night, even though they planned to stay two nights.
- 34:59Okay.
- 35:00They said that there was a quote overwhelming feeling of doom and dread.
- 35:05I mean, and they put that in like a yelp review or no.
- 35:11This was a comment, I think, on one of the stories about cron like, but yeah.
- 35:17So they made a comment on it about how they just felt this really bad vibe there.
- 35:21And they had to get out immediately, even though they planned to stay another night.
- 35:26They were just like, no, we got to go.
- 35:27Trust your gut.
- 35:28And other people say that there is a ghostly little girl hanging out in the halls there.
- 35:34You know how I feel about this?
- 35:36I do.
- 35:38And I know how you feel about this too. There is a male spirit that frequents the elevator.
- 35:43No kids, no men.
- 35:45Everyone.
- 35:46I feel like at a certain point in my just saying like, it's too people.
- 35:52Although a man on an elevator, come on.
- 35:58Tell me that's not creepy.
- 36:00Yeah.
- 36:01I dare you.
- 36:03That's like, okay, still it's an elevator, but like I picked the bear.
- 36:07At least he's not a man that's like hanging out by like the escalator or the stairs,
- 36:13like trying to look up skirts and shit, you know?
- 36:15No.
- 36:16Yeah.
- 36:17God, sometimes I forget about the things we talk about.
- 36:21And then you like, pair it back to me stuff from my episode.
- 36:24And I'm like, oh no.
- 36:26Them up skirt.
- 36:28But us.
- 36:29Whoa.
- 36:30Boy.
- 36:32Uh, go.
- 36:33Go, go, go. That was it. Oh, go. Okay. Because of the remoteness of crater lake,
- 36:38there have, of course been big foot sighting.
- 36:44Uh, hey.
- 36:45There's a story of Rangers spotting something large and foul smelling.
- 36:51That's right.
- 36:52I forget he's famously stinky.
- 36:55So stinky.
- 36:56Yeah.
- 36:56Very smelly.
- 36:58No, thank you.
- 36:58You need some ax body spray.
- 37:00Oh, I don't know that that's what we want.
- 37:02Yeah.
- 37:03If you're really stinky, you just cook.
- 37:04You can cover it up with the ax body spray.
- 37:06That's how that works.
- 37:07I feel like there's an entire generation of men that have documented that's simply not the case.
- 37:13Means God be better than just his natural scent.
- 37:17I don't know.
- 37:17Okay.
- 37:20Listen, not a sponsor.
- 37:22Maybe, I don't know, maybe try the breeze for breeze.
- 37:28Yeah.
- 37:28Because it does have all that fur.
- 37:30So that the for breeze can like sink into that.
- 37:33Yeah, you're gonna get like the pet one.
- 37:35Yeah.
- 37:36We should go big foot hunting and just be armed with pet for breeze.
- 37:41That's our big, that's how we get the big sponsorship.
- 37:46Well, let's get back to the big foot story.
- 37:49Right.
- 37:50So the Rangers that spotted the large foul smelling creature roaming through the woods.
- 37:56They followed it and they had pine cones thrown at them as they got closer, which is like a huge
- 38:03theme through big foot stories.
- 38:07Okay.
- 38:07Yeah.
- 38:07The kind of report.
- 38:09Yeah.
- 38:09It was like he throws stuff at you.
- 38:11Okay.
- 38:12So let's keep going down the cryptid path.
- 38:15Shall we?
- 38:15All right.
- 38:17And talk about the crater lake serpent.
- 38:19Shut the fuck up.
- 38:21Of course, there's a body of water.
- 38:25There's a fucking serpent in it.
- 38:27Okay.
- 38:27There's some sort of cryptid creature living in the lake, especially if it's this deep.
- 38:33Do you know what's down there, man?
- 38:35Yeah.
- 38:36It's him and Adele.
- 38:38Rolling.
- 38:40So a woman named Mattie Hatcher was on a boat tour on the lake.
- 38:46When she saw something huge and dragon like swim underneath them,
- 38:51I feel like it's probably fine.
- 38:53I would just ignore that.
- 38:55A huge dragon like serpent was swimming under your boat.
- 39:00Unfortunately, no one else saw it and she tried to tell people about it and they didn't believe
- 39:05her, which is rude.
- 39:06Crazy.
- 39:07Yeah.
- 39:08She's just a woman.
- 39:10Why didn't she eat that day?
- 39:12Was she hungry?
- 39:13Honestly, she's hysterical.
- 39:15She's not in a funny way.
- 39:18She's so hungry.
- 39:19She could eat that dragon.
- 39:20[laughter]
- 39:22Okay.
- 39:23What haven't we touched on yet?
- 39:24Oh yeah.
- 39:25UFOs.
- 39:26Oh!
- 39:27So people tend to see UFOs or UAPs as disc-shaped lights flying at incredible speeds
- 39:35and even submerging into the lake.
- 39:37Okay.
- 39:39I was like, well, what does that have to do with the lake?
- 39:41They see them flying around the lake and even like going down into the lake.
- 39:45I wonder if they live in the lake.
- 39:48Perfect.
- 39:50Do they come from space or do they come from the lake?
- 39:52That's why it's so deep.
- 39:54Aliens.
- 39:55Man.
- 39:56[laughter]
- 39:58This is starting to sound like the other show.
- 40:00No.
- 40:01We are not like them.
- 40:03I promise.
- 40:04Let's move on to like some sad stuff, unfortunately.
- 40:08I'm so sorry.
- 40:08Cool.
- 40:10As with any other large wilderness area,
- 40:13there are a number of deaths and missing persons cases.
- 40:18In national parties.
- 40:19Yeah.
- 40:20I mean, it happens.
- 40:21We all know.
- 40:22We all know.
- 40:22It's treacherous out there, you guys.
- 40:25That's why I'm like, if you go, make sure you're prepared.
- 40:27Even if you just think you're going hiking for a day,
- 40:30just be prepared for all of the possibilities.
- 40:34Yeah.
- 40:34Food, water, blankets,
- 40:36watch your step, you know, those kinds of things.
- 40:39I'm sure there's other things.
- 40:41Oh my god, there was such a sad story.
- 40:43It didn't include it.
- 40:44But some a woman was sitting down on a ledge and fainted and fell off
- 40:50because I think she was like too hungry.
- 40:52She didn't eat enough or something,
- 40:54or she got like too hot or didn't have a water or something.
- 40:57But where she fainted.
- 40:58She fainted.
- 40:59So eat, drink water.
- 41:00I get all of those.
- 41:03I get two, all of those things all the time.
- 41:06And I would literally fall.
- 41:08Don't sit on any ledges.
- 41:10Make sure to sit.
- 41:10I would never.
- 41:11Not close to any cliffs anywhere you could fall off.
- 41:14Just sit on the ground.
- 41:16It's so sad and scary.
- 41:17So be careful, everyone.
- 41:19But we're going to talk about something that happened in 1975.
- 41:2319-year-old photographer Charles McCullar
- 41:27went missing while visiting crater lake
- 41:30to take some stunning winter landscapes.
- 41:33Okay.
- 41:34They searched, but they found no sign of Charles.
- 41:38Charles!
- 41:40I mean, oh no.
- 41:42Until a year later, when two hikers found his remains.
- 41:47A year later.
- 41:49I mean, it was winter.
- 41:51We've talked about it.
- 41:52It's really hard to search for people in the winter.
- 41:54I mean, it feels like it shouldn't be.
- 41:56If there's snow on the ground,
- 41:57you should be able to track his movement very easily.
- 42:00I mean, I would keep snowing like,
- 42:02I don't know.
- 42:04It just like covers up your tracks.
- 42:06Maybe.
- 42:07There was a lot of snow.
- 42:08We'll talk about it.
- 42:09Okay.
- 42:10I mean, this is like your territory I'm getting into here.
- 42:12So you should be excited.
- 42:14I mean, is it?
- 42:15Kind of.
- 42:16All right.
- 42:17His remains consisted of only foot bones,
- 42:20broken shin bones, and the crown of his skull,
- 42:23which was found 12 feet away from the rest of him.
- 42:26Excuse me?
- 42:28Which is like animals get to it.
- 42:30That sort of makes sense, but I'm going to talk about some other stuff.
- 42:34Authorities think that he just got lost in the snow,
- 42:37possibly fell down and succumbed to the elements.
- 42:40And then animals decided that they needed to eat, you know, it happens.
- 42:46As they do, there was like seven feet of snow on the ground
- 42:50at the time that he went.
- 42:51It's not great to be out there in that deep of snow
- 42:56unless you're like fully prepared.
- 42:57If you've done it a lot, even if you have done a lot before,
- 43:00I feel like people still shit happens.
- 43:02Yes.
- 43:03Oh my god.
- 43:04So many things can happen.
- 43:06Yeah.
- 43:06Watch the Revenant and they'll show you all of the things that can happen.
- 43:10There's so bears that crater lake.
- 43:12There's not?
- 43:13No.
- 43:14There's not.
- 43:15Oh, okay.
- 43:16So we're going with that.
- 43:17No report of bear sightings, just big foot.
- 43:20Totally.
- 43:21But Charles's family thinks that the remains point to something more sinister.
- 43:26He was found 12 miles from the trail head that he was planning to take.
- 43:33Remember that seven feet of snow?
- 43:36Yeah.
- 43:37I wrote inches, I pretty sure it's feet.
- 43:39Seven feet of snow and how do you get 12 miles in that?
- 43:44That's a lot of snow.
- 43:45It is a lot of snow.
- 43:46It's a lot of snow.
- 43:47His jeans were on top of the log as if he'd been sitting on it.
- 43:53And inside his jeans is actually where they found the broken shin bones.
- 43:59Yeah, it's fucking weird, dude.
- 44:01Okay. Well, here.
- 44:03So I was going to say like there are a lot of famous cases where people may have succumbed to
- 44:09essentially hypothermia and find them naked.
- 44:13Yeah, that's one of the things because his jeans were, his jeans were unbuttoned and his belt was
- 44:18undone as well.
- 44:19Okay.
- 44:19Right.
- 44:20But what they don't find inside the clothes is their bones.
- 44:24Right.
- 44:24So he had, he either was like undressing or because there's more.
- 44:28Trust me.
- 44:29There's more.
- 44:29Okay.
- 44:30But wait.
- 44:31There's more.
- 44:32So I said his jeans were unbuttoned.
- 44:35His belt was undone.
- 44:35His jacket, shirt and boots were never recovered.
- 44:39So those were all missing.
- 44:41I don't know if maybe he like stripped along the way or if the animals like take your clothes.
- 44:49I don't know.
- 44:50Okay, but animals don't take your clothes and then delicately place bones back inside of the
- 45:01clothes.
- 45:02Well, I don't know.
- 45:02I feel like he was like on the log and then he was, I don't know if he was just sitting there
- 45:07when he passed away and then all that was left were like his shin bones, but they were also broken.
- 45:13So I don't know if the animals do that.
- 45:16That don't look like a fall.
- 45:18Yeah.
- 45:18But like how did he get on top of the stump?
- 45:23I don't know.
- 45:23It's very weird.
- 45:26Yeah. And his toe or his feet bones were still in his socks, which that kind of makes sense.
- 45:33It makes me think of like the feet that are found that wash up on the shore.
- 45:38And they've said that, you know, the bones will stay in there and they will kind of stay intact
- 45:44because they're protected by the --
- 45:46And we all believe that.
- 45:47For sure.
- 45:50Like your shin bone doesn't stay in the pit.
- 45:53Like that's not the only -- if you were sitting on the log when you died and then animals
- 46:00ravage your carcass, they're not just going to find a singular shin bone in the pit.
- 46:08I'm sorry.
- 46:09No.
- 46:10Yeah.
- 46:10I don't know.
- 46:11I was like thinking that if maybe it was broken enough to where it broke off and then if they drug
- 46:17the rest of like the legs away, if those just stayed in.
- 46:21But like I don't know. I'm not trying to think about it that hard either.
- 46:25I don't like it.
- 46:25I don't know.
- 46:26I'm going to be honest.
- 46:27I don't like it at all.
- 46:28But I agree.
- 46:29We do need to know how tight the pants were.
- 46:31I don't know how tight the pants were.
- 46:33I don't have those answers for you.
- 46:35But there is another weird thing that his camera equipment and money were never found either.
- 46:41So he obviously had camera equipment with him.
- 46:46He was traveling.
- 46:47So I'm sure he had money on him.
- 46:52His family kind of think that maybe someone else was involved.
- 46:56Maybe robbed him and that feels like a fair assessment based on the information that I have.
- 47:04Yeah.
- 47:04And his brother actually wrote one of the articles I got a bunch of this information from.
- 47:11Interesting.
- 47:13Yeah.
- 47:13Wow.
- 47:14It's so sad.
- 47:16He was like 19 years old just trying to go.
- 47:19It takes some beautiful photos of crater lake.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:23He didn't make it.
- 47:25This is so weird though because as you know, I am currently watching six feet under.
- 47:30Yes.
- 47:31And I'm just now at the episode where Ted Mosby in like a pretty sure 1975 drives his slug bug off the road.
- 47:43And his skeleton is then found like whatever point in the show this is like 40 years later.
- 47:49Spoiler alert.
- 47:50I'm assuming that I'm the last person on earth to pick up six feet under.
- 47:58Don't know how I miss that boat but.
- 48:00Yeah, it's about a while.
- 48:02Yeah.
- 48:03Here we are.
- 48:04I'm glad you're on the boat.
- 48:05Yeah.
- 48:05Don't get off the boat because the lake is steep.
- 48:08And there's dragons in it.
- 48:12Okay, well now my foot hurts too bad to put it back up.
- 48:15So if you are curious though, there is like a whole.
- 48:19His brother got like all of the police documents.
- 48:23You can like read through them.
- 48:24It's kind of just a lot of back and forth.
- 48:28Like we can't find them.
- 48:30That we didn't.
- 48:31Yeah.
- 48:32We found this.
- 48:33But it was the 70s.
- 48:35If you're interested.
- 48:36That link is in the source.
- 48:39I need a drink for this one.
- 48:41This one's a terrifying.
- 48:43A man known as Mr. Cornelius was sight seeing with his wife at Crater Lake.
- 48:50And no one knows why.
- 48:52But out of the blue.
- 48:54Get it out of the blue.
- 48:56That's my last joke because his story is really sad.
- 48:59Out of the blue, he hands his wife his wallet and purposefully slides down the snowy
- 49:07caldera wall down toward the lake. He was presumably trying to unalive himself.
- 49:13But he didn't make it to the lake and he just broke his leg.
- 49:18But that one stopped Mr. Cornelius.
- 49:21He continued to the water's edge and tragically proceeded to drown himself.
- 49:27He was very determined.
- 49:31I would say so.
- 49:34And literally nobody knows why.
- 49:36Like you're just having a day with your wife walking in nature and all the
- 49:40sun. You just give her your wallet and then like try to jump.
- 49:44But he didn't really jump.
- 49:45He just like slid down and then just you just go drown yourself.
- 49:51What?
- 49:52Oh wow.
- 49:55So I don't know.
- 49:58No, me neither when I read it.
- 50:01I was like, what is this?
- 50:03This isn't something. So there was a lot of stories.
- 50:05I had to I was kind of like trying to Google to make sure I could find other records of the
- 50:10stories because there was one story that I was like that.
- 50:12That doesn't sound right.
- 50:14And I looked and it was like totally not even substantial.
- 50:19Something that happened.
- 50:20Yeah.
- 50:20But this this is in like the records of the lake.
- 50:24Like the Rangers keep like documents.
- 50:26And the story is in those records.
- 50:29So like this happened.
- 50:32Yeah.
- 50:33Yeah.
- 50:34There was witnesses besides the wife.
- 50:36There was someone else that witnessed it.
- 50:38It's just it's so weird.
- 50:40Wow.
- 50:41Because I was thinking like, well, maybe if the wife is the only witness,
- 50:44like did she just like push him?
- 50:46You know, like yeah.
- 50:47Yeah.
- 50:47Yeah.
- 50:48It didn't actually happen.
- 50:48But yeah, there was other witnesses and it just it goes back to like that thing where
- 50:54if you stare at the lake too long, it might lure you to your death.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 51:00You know what would be perfect right now.
- 51:02What?
- 51:03If we're not going to, but if we were to cut to a better hell bad.
- 51:10Yeah.
- 51:11Yes.
- 51:13Like this feels like it has to be some sort of like a psychotic episode or a mental break.
- 51:22Yeah.
- 51:23That was so sad.
- 51:25And things just get sadder kind of from here.
- 51:28Great. So we're almost done. I promise.
- 51:32Okay.
- 51:32Several planes and even a helicopter have crashed into the lake.
- 51:37Remember what you said at the beginning of this before we started?
- 51:41Something about crashing planes.
- 51:43I don't.
- 51:44I don't know.
- 51:46You're just picking up all the vibes today.
- 51:48That's fine.
- 51:50They think that most likely the pilots that are crashing are seeing
- 51:55the like the mirror like reflection and getting confused on like what's up, what's down.
- 52:01Oh, I hate that.
- 52:02It's very scary.
- 52:03That's like flying terrifies me because I always hear about these things where like they lose
- 52:10the horizon. They don't know like what's up and what's down.
- 52:14It's too foggy to see.
- 52:15I don't like it.
- 52:16I mean, but I feel like now in modern aircraft,
- 52:20unless you're flying in a certain type of jet that
- 52:24it likes.
- 52:26They have navigation.
- 52:29Yeah.
- 52:30I don't know.
- 52:31These are recent.
- 52:32Okay. That's that was going to be my follow up question.
- 52:35Okay. So that makes sense.
- 52:37In one of these instances, pilot Dave Nunn was involved in a fatal plane crash.
- 52:44His plane vanished from radar near crater lake National Park and was not found until seven
- 52:51years later.
- 52:5390 miles north of crater lake near Huckleberry Mountain.
- 52:58Do you know Huckleberry Mountain?
- 53:01I mean, I know of it.
- 53:02Yeah.
- 53:03I never heard of it.
- 53:03It sounds so cute.
- 53:05Adorable.
- 53:06His wife, Jean later wrote a book about her experience that night.
- 53:11She had randomly woken up at 9:30 pm with a chill and the feeling of someone touching her leg.
- 53:19She says that she just knew that the plane had gone down and she'd lost her husband.
- 53:24So apparently it wasn't like, I don't think she got creepy vibe from the touch.
- 53:30I think it was more just like a, hey, like I'm here.
- 53:34I'm letting you know.
- 53:35Yeah.
- 53:35I am the messenger.
- 53:37And when she called the airport, they did confirm her worst fears.
- 53:42The plane fell off the radar at 9:20 pm.
- 53:48I was like, maybe it's just a dead zone, you know.
- 53:51Yeah, so so crazy that she woke up at the pretty much probably the exact time he was passing away.
- 53:58I just was sad.
- 54:00This is why I never sleep.
- 54:03Well, should we do some tarot?
- 54:08Some crater lake tarot?
- 54:11We'll figure out what deck we want to use.
- 54:13That deck.
- 54:16Okay.
- 54:17Okay, we're at the tarot.
- 54:22I'm going to do some shuffling.
- 54:24Shuffling.
- 54:25Ooh.
- 54:30Oh yeah.
- 54:32That was crazy.
- 54:33So we had Taylyn put in some of her energy since she was here for the story.
- 54:38Yeah.
- 54:40Obviously, Caitlyn did.
- 54:41And I did it.
- 54:42That's what I'm doing.
- 54:43[typing]
- 54:45She's fucking showing off over here.
- 54:49She's like, I don't know what this is.
- 54:52Okay, like vibrated when my finger touched it.
- 54:56Ooh.
- 54:57So I thought like, okay, that's a pretty good sign, right?
- 55:00Yeah.
- 55:01Seems like it.
- 55:02It is the six of cups.
- 55:05Is what this looks like?
- 55:06Cups?
- 55:07Yeah.
- 55:08We're using my crow deck.
- 55:10It does look like snowy, like kind of like a snowy landscape with trees,
- 55:15but there's also sunflowers.
- 55:16But it does look snowy.
- 55:18Yeah, that's definitely snowy.
- 55:20But then there's sunflowers.
- 55:23Interesting.
- 55:23Upright?
- 55:25Yes.
- 55:26Okay.
- 55:26Keywords are nostalgia, emotional renewal, happiness, and harmony.
- 55:34Well, that's great because I was really worried about the stories that were sad.
- 55:39Yeah.
- 55:40This joyful card sometimes shows two children in a garden.
- 55:45It represents reflecting on a time of innocence, contentment, and beauty.
- 55:50Okay.
- 55:51Reflecting.
- 55:53The reflective surface of the lake.
- 55:56Oh, it wasn't last on me.
- 55:58When it shows up, it indicates your revisiting pleasant memories and good times.
- 56:06Knowing that you have been happy in the past can enhance your ability to be happy in the future.
- 56:11Especially if you've undergone a painful experience recently.
- 56:17Oh.
- 56:18I don't know how I feel about that yet.
- 56:21So I'm going to keep going.
- 56:22I think it was telling us that we don't need a dwell on the sad stories of the lake.
- 56:27Yeah.
- 56:28I certainly don't need to know how a bone ended up in an empty pair of pants.
- 56:33Yeah.
- 56:34Oh, nothing to see here.
- 56:35A card of emotional renewal, perhaps after a time of unhappiness.
- 56:41The six of cups represents a willingness to share joy with others.
- 56:46You eagerly give up yourself and receive the good things life offers.
- 56:51Through your actions, you express love and caring to people you know.
- 56:55And to the things you value.
- 57:00In a reading about money, this card suggests an upswing in your finances.
- 57:05Perhaps after a time of loss or limitation.
- 57:08Is this card about me?
- 57:10Right?
- 57:11This would be such a great card to draw right now for I feel like probably more than a few of us.
- 57:19Well, I was thinking it immediately reminded me of me because I like shared those pictures of like
- 57:24going to crater lake and my childhood and you said there was like something about two kids on it.
- 57:29And definitely nostalgia.
- 57:31Just nostalgia.
- 57:32Yeah.
- 57:32It can represent a joint venture in which you share expenses and profits with others.
- 57:39Sometimes it indicates a debt repaid.
- 57:43Oh, okay.
- 57:44I'd love to pay my debt.
- 57:45No, I'm taking it to the grave.
- 57:49Come at me, Sally.
- 57:51That's true.
- 57:51If the reading is about your job, the six upright shows renewed enthusiasm for your work.
- 57:58Perhaps a change offers you more creativity or an improved work environment.
- 58:04So it's definitely picking up energy from you guys.
- 58:09So I'll have to say about that.
- 58:14Developing new skills can benefit you now.
- 58:18In a reading about love, this card shows your overcoming problems in a relationship
- 58:24and renewing positive feelings for one another.
- 58:28Sometimes the six of cups can mean reconnecting with a past lover.
- 58:33I mean, I don't think they're going to be reconnecting any of the lovers that we talked about.
- 58:40Seems pretty tragic, like the unrequited love and then the woman who lost her husband and
- 58:47oh, and the other woman who's husband went down to the water, you know.
- 58:52Yeah.
- 58:53Well, that's sad.
- 58:55Maybe in the afterlife.
- 58:56Maybe.
- 58:57I hope so.
- 58:58Yeah.
- 58:59What do you got in that little baby?
- 59:02I don't know.
- 59:03Was there any extra excerpts?
- 59:04Yes.
- 59:07There is.
- 59:08Symbol of a kiss.
- 59:11The six of cups in the Rider Weight Smith deck shows a large cup resting on a pillar decorated with an X.
- 59:20X is the Norse rune for love and a symbol we use for a kiss.
- 59:27Aww.
- 59:28I mean, it could kind of just like represent that really strong connection with that woman who
- 59:33just like knew her husband had passed away.
- 59:35Yeah.
- 59:36That's a really good point.
- 59:38I didn't make that connection.
- 59:40I feel like I put too much of my energy in this, you guys.
- 59:44I don't know.
- 59:46Do you want to read this?
- 59:47It's pretty short.
- 59:48Yeah.
- 59:48So the crow returns to the place of his youth in search of finding his inner fledgling.
- 59:55Oh.
- 59:55Am I searching for my inner fledgling?
- 59:58I don't know.
- 59:59He stands in a field of cups filling his heart with healing memories of a time that was less complicated.
- 1:00:06Yeah.
- 1:00:06All right.
- 1:00:07If, oh, okay, I just had this thought just now.
- 1:00:11It's like we got cups, which is water.
- 1:00:13Yeah.
- 1:00:15That was fitting.
- 1:00:16Yeah.
- 1:00:16Definitely.
- 1:00:17If you have been feeling overburdened with the day-to-day responsibilities, the six of cups brings
- 1:00:23a message to take a break and remember a moment in time when you felt free just to enjoy life.
- 1:00:30Whether it's a trip to your hometown or maybe your favorite vacation spot,
- 1:00:35it's time to recharge your spirit.
- 1:00:37My spirit is recharged.
- 1:00:40We definitely talked a lot about the spirits of the lake and we should probably recharge your
- 1:00:46laptop.
- 1:00:47I mean, my laptop is charged.
- 1:00:50It's over there fully charged doing a thing.
- 1:00:52We're leaving it alone because it's not happy with me right now.
- 1:00:55I wouldn't touch her.
- 1:00:56Don't touch it.
- 1:00:58Well, should I point out some of the cute little things I put on the altar?
- 1:01:03Yeah.
- 1:01:03So it's kind of hard to see.
- 1:01:05Or, obviously, I got my little alien candle here.
- 1:01:10Hello.
- 1:01:11Obviously, I put the woodblock out because the old man, hello.
- 1:01:17Clearly.
- 1:01:18What else?
- 1:01:20Oh, this is petrified wood.
- 1:01:22Ew.
- 1:01:22This is my little toothless dragon made of obsidian because of the serpent like dragon.
- 1:01:30I was like, well, I'll bring my...
- 1:01:32The symbolism is rich obsidian and that's like from volcanoes, right?
- 1:01:35Yeah, huh?
- 1:01:37I think this is like lava rock.
- 1:01:40It's pretty pointless.
- 1:01:41Yeah.
- 1:01:42You know?
- 1:01:42lava rock.
- 1:01:43Chris has actually a whole bracelet that I made out of lava rock.
- 1:01:48Those are where you put like the oils, the essential oils on them.
- 1:01:52Yeah, he was like, I don't want that.
- 1:01:54But he did want the lava rock.
- 1:01:58He just want to smell like a hippie.
- 1:02:00No.
- 1:02:02Turns out no.
- 1:02:03I tried.
- 1:02:05This just looks like a lake.
- 1:02:06I thought it was cool.
- 1:02:07It does.
- 1:02:08It reminds me of all of your photos from the lake.
- 1:02:11Yeah, that's beautiful.
- 1:02:12I'm glad that we talked about this pretty lake that has good memories for me at least.
- 1:02:18And even though we didn't talk about a lot of like really good things, I hope it made everyone
- 1:02:24else feel good.
- 1:02:25I think crater lake by and large for most people is a happy place.
- 1:02:29Yeah.
- 1:02:30It is very nostalgic.
- 1:02:31I feel like it makes sense that it picked up on...
- 1:02:35I feel like maybe it's more of a general vibe than it is necessarily specific to any...
- 1:02:41I mean, there are elements that apply to a couple of the different stories that we talked about.
- 1:02:47But I feel like it's the energy of the lake overall.
- 1:02:51Yeah.
- 1:02:52And that is deep.
- 1:02:54So deep.
- 1:02:541949 feet deep.
- 1:03:01At least.

- 1:03:13Yeah.
- 1:03:14So we talked about the other things.
- 1:03:17We don't need to talk about it again.

- 1:03:24And that was delicious.
- 1:03:26And...
- 1:03:27Now we need to go have real food.
- 1:03:28Yeah.
- 1:03:28Now we need some more food.

- 1:03:50Boats!
- 1:03:51You take garlic bread boats to the lake.
- 1:03:53Boats and hoes.
- 1:03:55That's how we should get to the island to Wizard Island.
- 1:03:58We should take our garlic bread boat and then we'll be safe.
- 1:04:00I have bad news about that.
- 1:04:02They are very small.
- 1:04:03We'll build a bigger boat out of the garlic bread boats.
- 1:04:09Okay.

- 1:04:13Okay, old man, we're coming for you and we're going to bring you
- 1:04:16an offering of garlic bread.
