- 1:33Speaker 6: But Ryan, I guess we have to do the show
- 1:35Speaker 6: part to get to the.
- 1:36Speaker 4: News Well maybe we don't even have to do it
- 1:38Speaker 4: and just pretend we do it and put it in
- 1:39Speaker 4: the newsletter.
- 1:40Speaker 6: Or we could just dub ourselves with AI.
- 1:42Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:42Speaker 5: But actually the newsletter pulls quotes from the show, which
- 1:45Speaker 5: is kind of wild.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yeah, so we got to say some stuff, Yeah, we.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Got We got to say something interesting at least once
- 1:50Speaker 5: a segment.
- 1:51Speaker 6: So that's the goal.
- 1:52Speaker 5: We are going to start with Natanyahu, who did an
- 1:54Speaker 5: interview on Fox News yesterday.
- 1:56Speaker 6: We're celebrating the fourth of July.
- 1:58Speaker 5: Who else would we talk to but Benjamin Netanya, who
- 2:01Speaker 5: the representative of our final congressional district. This might Cockabe
- 2:05Speaker 5: recently put it, so you really say that, yes he did,
- 2:08Speaker 5: we are he said, Jerusalem was. But we are going
- 2:12Speaker 5: to get into a little bit of the political problems
- 2:14Speaker 5: at home for Nazianna who as well today, right because
- 2:17Speaker 5: those are starting to mount as well.
- 2:19Speaker 3: The funeral pulled off a coup basically will so well, well, we.
- 2:23Speaker 5: Have a guest who's going to break that down for us.
- 2:26Speaker 5: But also we're going to be talking about the funeral
- 2:29Speaker 5: held in Iran this weekend, along with some updates in
- 2:32Speaker 5: Lebanon and updates and Iran as well. But you're going
- 2:34Speaker 5: to want to see the images and hear some quotes
- 2:38Speaker 5: from the funeral that was held for Comeni this weekend.
- 2:42Speaker 5: So lots to get into on that. Trump gave a
- 2:45Speaker 5: big Fourth of July speech. Mom Donnie also gave a
- 2:47Speaker 5: Fourth of July speech, kind of dueling speeches. It was
- 2:50Speaker 5: interesting that Mom Donnie's was so.
- 2:54Speaker 6: So right way it was. It was a huge topic
- 2:56Speaker 6: of discussion and almost to.
- 2:58Speaker 5: The point where he became the leader of the left
- 3:00Speaker 5: as Trump is the leader of the right.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Like it's almost over.
- 3:03Speaker 5: It's almost like the dueling figures in American politics right
- 3:07Speaker 5: now Mayor of New York City. So we have lots
- 3:10Speaker 5: to break down from that big, big news out of
- 3:12Speaker 5: Michigan yesterday where Mallory mcmorro dropped out of the race.
- 3:15Speaker 6: That was kind of a spoiler for the segment the Abundance.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Well, I think since it's news, I think we can
- 3:20Speaker 4: spoil news. The Abundance candidate has has dropped out, leaving
- 3:25Speaker 4: Elsaiahed and Haley Stevens as the remaining as the remaining
- 3:29Speaker 4: candidates in the Michigan Senate race. We'll talk about how
- 3:31Speaker 4: that happened, what it means. And then Trump for once
- 3:36Speaker 4: used his powers of corruption for the United States instead
- 3:41Speaker 4: of robbing the United States.
- 3:43Speaker 3: He made a.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Phone call to He is the FIFA Peace Prize winner, famous,
- 3:49Speaker 4: so he has some privileges.
- 3:50Speaker 3: So he made a.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Phone call to they had a FIFA and he got
- 3:55Speaker 4: flows red card suspended.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yep, we got that. Well, the red cards still in place.
- 3:59Speaker 4: But this is mention that afterwards is suspended, so he
- 4:03Speaker 4: will play tonight.
- 4:04Speaker 6: He will play.
- 4:05Speaker 4: If Belgium shows up. They're angry. How could you not
- 4:08Speaker 4: be come on, play the best players. I agree, it's fine.
- 4:15Speaker 5: I mean, these people spend all of the time watching
- 4:17Speaker 5: soccer and we just dipped in.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Yes, but we have finally caught on that in order
- 4:22Speaker 4: to be serious about soccer or football, you have to
- 4:26Speaker 4: be corrupt. America has arrived football scene.
- 4:29Speaker 6: We now understand how to play this game.
- 4:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 4:33Speaker 5: Well, just as a reminder, breaking moresic on premium subscription
- 4:36Speaker 5: and you can set up for the newsletter there as well.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Let's get to the show.
- 4:39Speaker 5: We're going to start now with Netta Yahu's interview on
- 4:43Speaker 5: Fox News where he's laughing off Jade Vance's claim that
- 4:47Speaker 5: Israel is losing support around the world.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Let's go ahead and take a look at a two.
- 4:52Speaker 4: If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government,
- 4:55Speaker 4: I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that
- 4:59Speaker 4: I have, but anywhere left in the entire world.
- 5:03Speaker 6: What was your reaction when you heard that?
- 5:06Speaker 7: First of all, I respect jd Vance, we have a
- 5:10Speaker 7: very good relationship, but doesn't mean that I agree with
- 5:13Speaker 7: everything that he says, and I have to point out this,
- 5:17Speaker 7: Donald Trump is great, the greatest friend we ever had
- 5:20Speaker 7: in the White House, and I stand by that completely. Secondly,
- 5:24Speaker 7: we have some other friends, like a small country called India.
- 5:28Speaker 7: You know, it has one point four billion people, and
- 5:33Speaker 7: boy do we have a tremendous support there. You know,
- 5:37Speaker 7: I have this Facebook thing and I'm just funded by
- 5:42Speaker 7: these by the overwhelming support there. And we have many others.
- 5:45Speaker 7: Let me tell you where we have support, because it's
- 5:48Speaker 7: fashionable now. And you know, in many countries, because their
- 5:51Speaker 7: media and their social media are inundated with anti Israel,
- 5:56Speaker 7: anti Semitic material, many leaders you know, call me up
- 6:00Speaker 7: and say, hey, look, I've got this problem with public opinion.
- 6:03Speaker 7: But I want you to know we respect you, and
- 6:06Speaker 7: can we make some deals, and can you teach us
- 6:08Speaker 7: some of the things that your military does, and can
- 6:10Speaker 7: we have some of your AI and cyber expertise. You know,
- 6:14Speaker 7: Israel as the number two countries in cyber in the world,
- 6:16Speaker 7: and our technology is sure, it's so good. So the
- 6:21Speaker 7: relations are not quite as they appear. And we have
- 6:25Speaker 7: we have many, many friends, and I have to tell
- 6:27Speaker 7: you we also take care of our friends, especially the
- 6:30Speaker 7: Christians in the Middle East, the Christian villages in Lebanon,
- 6:35Speaker 7: some of them have actually asked to be a next
- 6:37Speaker 7: to Israel because we protect them against Chris Baalah fanatics
- 6:44Speaker 7: who want to kill them, and we do the same
- 6:46Speaker 7: things with Christians everywhere Christians in the Middle East.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Well, meanwhile, let's go ahead and take a look at
- 6:51Speaker 5: this footage from southern Lebanon over the weekend.
- 6:54Speaker 6: We can roll the next element.
- 6:56Speaker 5: You see this on your screen, Ryan, The strikes have
- 7:00Speaker 5: continued very much.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yes, they're diminished, reduced.
- 7:05Speaker 4: So oftentimes what Israel means by his tease fire is
- 7:08Speaker 4: that their attacks are going to be reduced from what
- 7:12Speaker 4: they were before, certainly not go to zero. So you're
- 7:16Speaker 4: seeing and we'll talk about some of the ongoing killings
- 7:19Speaker 4: in Gaza as well. But I had to listen to
- 7:21Speaker 4: that Dnyaho comment a couple times because I was like,
- 7:25Speaker 4: did he really say it's not true that Israel is
- 7:30Speaker 4: isolated because there are a lot of Indians on Facebook
- 7:34Speaker 4: that are supportive. I went back and watched you don't
- 7:37Speaker 4: believe me, go back, scroll back watch that again. That
- 7:40Speaker 4: is in fact the argument. Think about the superpower level
- 7:46Speaker 4: of propaganda that has come out of the Israeli government
- 7:50Speaker 4: for decades, and compare it to what NTNA who is
- 7:53Speaker 4: now saying that they are not completely globally isolated because
- 7:58Speaker 4: there are Indian bot farms basically that are whipping up
- 8:03Speaker 4: support on Facebook.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Facebook.
- 8:07Speaker 5: I mean, even just citing one additional one additional country
- 8:11Speaker 5: was quite interesting from Natsanya, who's like, we have a
- 8:13Speaker 5: little friend called India.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And you should see him on Facebook.
- 8:16Speaker 5: It's not nothing, but it's not undermining jd Vance's point.
- 8:22Speaker 4: The Hindu nationalism that is surging in India has as
- 8:26Speaker 4: much hatred of Islam and embedded in it as Netnyahu does.
- 8:31Speaker 4: And so it's true that there's some like ideological or
- 8:35Speaker 4: whatever you would call it, sympathy there. And it is
- 8:37Speaker 4: very true that Indian social media is very supportive of Israel.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Like the all that is true.
- 8:43Speaker 4: It is just kind of embarrassing that that's the last
- 8:45Speaker 4: thing you're hanging your hat on. When he's talking about
- 8:48Speaker 4: Christian villages in southern Lebanon. You know what he you
- 8:51Speaker 4: know what Israel did say.
- 8:52Speaker 3: To Christian villages in southern Lebanon.
- 8:55Speaker 4: If you shelter any Muslims who are fleeing from our attacks,
- 9:01Speaker 4: we will level you too. So that is the expression
- 9:07Speaker 4: of the love that Netya who says he has for
- 9:10Speaker 4: Lebanese expisasions. Also finally, Israel's in the Middle East. It's
- 9:14Speaker 4: just so odd to me that he would be that
- 9:17Speaker 4: transparently hostile to Muslims while being in the Middle East,
- 9:23Speaker 4: Like to just transparently say, look, Christians like us, which
- 9:28Speaker 4: isn't true because they are ruthless to Christians both in
- 9:32Speaker 4: Palestine and in southern Lebanon. But even if that were true,
- 9:35Speaker 4: like to just explicitly come out and say, you've basically
- 9:39Speaker 4: written off relations with the population of like ninety plus
- 9:44Speaker 4: percent of the Middle East, that where you exist is.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Is a choice.
- 9:50Speaker 5: So what you're saying, I mean the obvious response to that,
- 9:52Speaker 5: he would say, well, there's a lot of hostility coming
- 9:54Speaker 5: towards us, except.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Well, he says, he's best friends or Saudi Arabia, the UAE,
- 9:58Speaker 4: he's got friends and cuts or even though some doesn't
- 10:00Speaker 4: like all the countries.
- 10:01Speaker 6: Yeah, well that's part of his political problem.
- 10:02Speaker 4: He has a bunch of friends in Lebanon, he's got
- 10:04Speaker 4: they fund a bunch of people in Syria. He loves
- 10:07Speaker 4: the Kurds like or he claims to like. So he
- 10:12Speaker 4: claims he's got these The Abraham Accords are based on
- 10:15Speaker 4: the idea that he can coexist with all of these
- 10:18Speaker 4: other yeap some countries. But when he's being honest, he's like,
- 10:23Speaker 4: you know who I really like and loves India and
- 10:26Speaker 4: you should see him on Facebook. Yeah, go ahead and
- 10:28Speaker 4: look at some of the comments that these Indians are
- 10:31Speaker 4: making on Facebook.
- 10:33Speaker 3: It would make Nick Fuents blush.
- 10:38Speaker 5: Also interesting that Fox News is Jackie Heinrich got that interview.
- 10:41Speaker 5: I don't want to leave the segment without noting that
- 10:44Speaker 5: her husband, Brian Fitzpatrick, they literally just got married a
- 10:47Speaker 5: couple of weeks ago. I pulled up on track a
- 10:49Speaker 5: PAC the Pennsylvania delegation. He has taken the most money
- 10:52Speaker 5: from Pro Israel packs in the entire Pennsylvania delegation, more
- 10:56Speaker 5: than Fetterman, more than Brendan Boyle, like actually by a
- 10:59Speaker 5: huge and he's taken nine hundred and twenty four thousand,
- 11:02Speaker 5: almost a million, And that's like actually way ahead of
- 11:06Speaker 5: everybody else in the Pennsylvania delegation, which again just to note,
- 11:09Speaker 5: includes John Fetterman.
- 11:11Speaker 6: According to the track APAC.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Numbers, Philadelphia suburbs. He's a very talented politician. He keeps
- 11:17Speaker 4: hanging on against these democratic attacks, trying to He's one
- 11:21Speaker 4: of the remaining what you would you know, outside of
- 11:24Speaker 4: supporting an extremist, genocidal state, moderate Republican.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Let's go and talk about updates from Gaza as well,
- 11:31Speaker 5: because there were some over the weekend.
- 11:33Speaker 6: Let's put a four up now.
- 11:35Speaker 4: So this is doctors Abu Sofia, who was if people
- 11:39Speaker 4: will remember here, arrested in December of twenty twenty four
- 11:44Speaker 4: at kamal Ottawan Hospital. His hospital was surrounded and he
- 11:48Speaker 4: continued operating and treating patients as the as the IDF
- 11:53Speaker 4: was sacking the hospital.
- 11:56Speaker 3: There was this famous.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Photo of him if you remember, seeing and walking across
- 12:01Speaker 4: the rubble toured an Israeli tank in order to be detained.
- 12:06Speaker 3: So that was almost two years ago.
- 12:09Speaker 4: At this point, all of the information that has come
- 12:11Speaker 4: out from his family and his attorneys over the preceding
- 12:17Speaker 4: succeeding time is that he has been tortured, just relentlessly,
- 12:21Speaker 4: lost an extraordinary amount of weight, and so he finally
- 12:24Speaker 4: he's been moved. He's no charges whatsoever, just administrative detention
- 12:28Speaker 4: that they just every six months. They just keep him
- 12:31Speaker 4: in administrative attention. So he's just a hostage. And so
- 12:37Speaker 4: he recently met with his lawyer and he's as he
- 12:41Speaker 4: got transferred to another underground prison, and he told his
- 12:44Speaker 4: lawyer quote, this is the end.
- 12:47Speaker 3: This is the last time you'll see me. They brought
- 12:49Speaker 3: me here to kill me.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And the lawyer said he had bruises on his eyes,
- 12:55Speaker 4: his ears, his head, and there was serious fear that
- 13:00Speaker 4: he has brain bleeding from the torture that is going
- 13:04Speaker 4: that is going to kill him. And we'll talk about
- 13:07Speaker 4: this in a little bit with an Israeli journalist. The
- 13:10Speaker 4: High Court in Israel has ordered him, has ordered the
- 13:16Speaker 4: Ideaf to present some information about his case because there
- 13:20Speaker 4: is like serious attention on his case. A very celebrated physician,
- 13:23Speaker 4: he wrote, he wrote a column for the New York Times,
- 13:27Speaker 4: which is not a column, an op ed, which is
- 13:31Speaker 4: what people suspect is why they've been treating him so
- 13:34Speaker 4: viciously to as a as an example, like you, you
- 13:38Speaker 4: think you're a celebrated physician who can speak in the
- 13:44Speaker 4: New York Times about what's going on in Gaza. No,
- 13:46Speaker 4: we're going to We're going to show that We're not
- 13:47Speaker 4: afraid to torture even somebody like that, And so think
- 13:52Speaker 4: about it. If we'll torture him, you, who is a
- 13:55Speaker 4: much lesser figure, who's not in the New York Times,
- 13:57Speaker 4: is not a celebrated physician like you, have no chance
- 14:02Speaker 4: now that the Israel is going through a either a
- 14:06Speaker 4: coup or a constitual crisis. So whether they're going to
- 14:09Speaker 4: follow the orders of the Supreme Court remains to be seen.
- 14:12Speaker 4: A couple other West Bank developments that we can get
- 14:15Speaker 4: to really quickly if you want to, like a couple
- 14:19Speaker 4: a couple of crazy things where we had, you know,
- 14:22Speaker 4: you have to just repeatedly check these to be like,
- 14:24Speaker 4: is this is this possible?
- 14:26Speaker 3: That this is this is really going on.
- 14:27Speaker 4: We finished with eight a five, just so anybody who
- 14:31Speaker 4: wants this is the update from UH from drop Side
- 14:34Speaker 4: about the latest killings in Godz or you can pause
- 14:37Speaker 4: that UH and and read those if you want to.
- 14:39Speaker 4: A father was killed a year ago. They just killed
- 14:43Speaker 4: his son over over the weekend, and there they.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Continue to recover bodies.
- 14:50Speaker 4: If you can put up four killed in over the week,
- 14:52Speaker 4: you put up a six. It's horrifying footage. It's not
- 14:57Speaker 4: graphic though, it is a gut punch. This is a
- 15:02Speaker 4: checkpoint west of Ramala where a family is trying to
- 15:06Speaker 4: take their their four month to a waiting ambulance on
- 15:09Speaker 4: the other side of the checkpoint, and the Israeli soldiers
- 15:14Speaker 4: just won't won't let the family throw and so the
- 15:18Speaker 4: ambulance just sits there on the other side of the
- 15:20Speaker 4: checkpoint helplessly. Uh and the and the and the four
- 15:24Speaker 4: month old baby died waiting. That was Akhmed Zaid from
- 15:29Speaker 4: from dere Mar, like just as a as a parent,
- 15:33Speaker 4: like it's just it's just incomprehensible to be to be
- 15:37Speaker 4: in a situation like that.
- 15:38Speaker 3: And and for these you.
- 15:41Speaker 4: We've all we've all encountered bureaucrats who are just like
- 15:45Speaker 4: immune to the urgency of a situation that we're in.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Usually it's not a four month old that needs emergency treatment.
- 15:52Speaker 4: And there's an ambulance on the other side of the checkpoint.
- 15:55Speaker 4: And then we have a nine another like absolutely shocking
- 15:59Speaker 4: video that I had to watch several times to figure
- 16:00Speaker 4: out what you just saw.
- 16:02Speaker 3: The Israeli soldier throw a stun gun inside a car,
- 16:05Speaker 3: stuff the door closed with people in it, and close
- 16:08Speaker 3: the door.
- 16:09Speaker 4: An American people have mav and I say, is but
- 16:11Speaker 4: an American soldier who did that, it would be an
- 16:15Speaker 4: absolute scandal, Protests in the street, court martial investigations. And
- 16:24Speaker 4: anybody watching this program knows how I feel about the
- 16:26Speaker 4: American military. I am not its biggest champion or defender,
- 16:30Speaker 4: but think about that. In comparison, they make the American
- 16:34Speaker 4: military look like the most moral army in the world.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Two And it's one thing.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Oh, if it's just a bad apple and they violated
- 16:41Speaker 4: their training, it turns out it's not. The training with
- 16:45Speaker 4: a stunt grenade is not to throw it into an
- 16:46Speaker 4: occupied car and close the door on the occupants. What's
- 16:51Speaker 4: shocking is we all know there will be no consequences
- 16:55Speaker 4: for that person.
- 16:56Speaker 3: And there will.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Be some brave people hand half a dozen who will
- 17:00Speaker 4: go out in protest. They'll get beaten. Those are heroic
- 17:04Speaker 4: Israelis who will do that. But you're talking about like
- 17:07Speaker 4: a half a dozen dozen people. There will not be
- 17:10Speaker 4: mass protests, and there will not be political backlash backlash.
- 17:16Speaker 4: There won't there won't be a reckoning. How did we
- 17:19Speaker 4: get to a place where we're okay with a four
- 17:21Speaker 4: month old baby dying at a checkpoint and a soldier
- 17:27Speaker 4: throwing a stun grenade into a car with civilians in
- 17:30Speaker 4: it and then closing the door on it, Like, how
- 17:32Speaker 4: do we get there?
- 17:34Speaker 3: Now?
- 17:34Speaker 4: What's going on in the Israeli political system, which we've
- 17:37Speaker 4: been teasing here is quite incredible. Yes, Yes, the basically
- 17:43Speaker 4: Nenyah who has been trying to consolidate control of the media, which.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Is going on all over the world. This is this
- 17:49Speaker 3: is what you're seeing in countries.
- 17:51Speaker 4: The Supreme Court, the High Court in Israel pushed back
- 17:54Speaker 4: against him.
- 17:55Speaker 6: This blew up over the weekend.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Yeah, and said, you said you can't do that, this
- 17:59Speaker 4: is this is illegal. You set up this fake second
- 18:01Speaker 4: commission that's over regulating the media.
- 18:03Speaker 3: That's not the proper one.
- 18:05Speaker 4: This is the official proper regulator, and we're reviewing this
- 18:08Speaker 4: deal where you're trying to concentrate wealth. Then Yahoo announced
- 18:12Speaker 4: over the weekend that is an illegal order. We're not
- 18:15Speaker 4: going to We're not going to follow it.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Those are Times of Israel headline in first government vows
- 18:20Speaker 5: to disobey high court ruling, setting up constitutional crisis.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Not even Trump has done this. Trump has disobeyed some
- 18:27Speaker 4: lower court rulings or kind of ignored them. Not completely
- 18:33Speaker 4: disobeyed them explicitly and then appeals to the Higher court.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Trump has never yet and hopefully he won't disobeyed a
- 18:41Speaker 4: Supreme Court ruling because once you do that, then all
- 18:46Speaker 4: the guardrails are off, because then you're just then you're
- 18:49Speaker 4: just an unchecked authoritarian government.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Right. And you can see from this Haretz headline this
- 18:55Speaker 5: is Hertzog call it a red line and joined other
- 18:57Speaker 5: officials and pushing back against government decision to defy high
- 19:00Speaker 5: court order. And again we have a guest who's going
- 19:02Speaker 5: to break some of these internal political dynamics down for us.
- 19:06Speaker 5: But this the stakes for Detnahu were already high, and
- 19:09Speaker 5: certainly now Ryan, they're even higher.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yes, indeed, yes, sure are.
- 19:13Speaker 4: So let's bring in uh Noga Turnipalsky back to breaking
- 19:17Speaker 4: points to discuss. All right, So joining us now is
- 19:23Speaker 4: Noga Tarnopalski. It's rarely join us is Raeli journalists joining
- 19:27Speaker 4: us from Jerusalem. A lot a lot of Jay's there, Noga,
- 19:30Speaker 4: thanks so much for being.
- 19:31Speaker 8: Here, Thank you for inviting me.
- 19:34Speaker 5: Shout out to Noga's cat and just walked into the
- 19:36Speaker 5: shot as well. We love cats on breaking points, So that.
- 19:39Speaker 8: Cat is Melissund, who's named for the twelfth century Queen
- 19:43Speaker 8: of Jerusalem, the only queen Jerusalem ever had.
- 19:46Speaker 6: It's a powerful cat.
- 19:47Speaker 4: There we go, and Noga just launched the substack BB
- 19:50Speaker 4: and beyond BB, already giving her a lot of news
- 19:53Speaker 4: for this. So tell us about this coup slash constitutional
- 19:58Speaker 4: crisis wires some people calling it a coup and what
- 20:02Speaker 4: is the constitutional crists layout for people who are kind
- 20:06Speaker 4: of new to this question.
- 20:07Speaker 8: Yeah, okay, I'll do my best, although I just want
- 20:11Speaker 8: to start out by saying that the most serious people
- 20:16Speaker 8: I know who are addressing this, for example, professor of
- 20:20Speaker 8: constitutional law Hebrew University called Mota Kremnitzer, and the Attorney
- 20:26Speaker 8: General of Israel, Gali Baharavmara, they're calling this an insurrection.
- 20:32Speaker 8: And I'm saying that because I do think that in
- 20:34Speaker 8: useful ways it can be compared to January sixth, in
- 20:37Speaker 8: that it's an effort to illegally control some of the
- 20:43Speaker 8: power of the state. But now I'll take a step back. Sure,
- 20:48Speaker 8: there are two facets to what has happened here in
- 20:51Speaker 8: the last twenty four hours. On the one hand, what
- 20:54Speaker 8: we had is a Supreme Court ruling about a government
- 21:00Speaker 8: decision basically removing the media regulator and allowing the government
- 21:07Speaker 8: to control almost all of the media space, very much
- 21:12Speaker 8: on the Hungarian model of how Victor Orban basically eliminated
- 21:17Speaker 8: the free media in Hungary and took over all of
- 21:21Speaker 8: the organs of the media. That was a decision passed
- 21:24Speaker 8: by this government, and after months of deliberations, yesterday the
- 21:27Speaker 8: Supreme Court ruled that the government can't do that and
- 21:31Speaker 8: that the regulator must continue operating. So, in a narrow way,
- 21:37Speaker 8: what the government has said is, no, we're not going
- 21:40Speaker 8: to adhere to that ruling. We're going to take control
- 21:43Speaker 8: of this regulator and we're going to control the media
- 21:46Speaker 8: in these months leading up to an election. But the
- 21:49Speaker 8: reason people are calling it a coups de'ttas isn't the
- 21:52Speaker 8: specifics of that law. It's that the government has decided
- 21:57Speaker 8: that the Supreme Court is no longer the law of
- 21:59Speaker 8: the land. Supreme Court rulings have no bearings, and so
- 22:03Speaker 8: what that means, certainly in the eyes of the Attorney
- 22:05Speaker 8: General the state that in Israel's a civil servant. In
- 22:08Speaker 8: the eyes of former Prime Minister Yayer Lapid, who's head
- 22:13Speaker 8: of the opposition, he said that as of yesterday, this
- 22:15Speaker 8: is a criminal government, a rogue government. The reason people
- 22:19Speaker 8: are reacting that way is the expectation that the government
- 22:21Speaker 8: is going to use this as a precedent and no
- 22:24Speaker 8: longer recognize the rule of law going forward now towards
- 22:29Speaker 8: the elections.
- 22:30Speaker 5: And that's what I was going to ask I me
- 22:31Speaker 5: in Israel, lest we forget as a fairly young country.
- 22:35Speaker 5: And so what precedent, if any, is there for this?
- 22:38Speaker 5: I mean, how significant politically and constitutionally is what's happening
- 22:42Speaker 5: right now?
- 22:43Speaker 8: This is an earthquake. The state of Israel was established
- 22:47Speaker 8: in nineteen forty eight. It's a seventy eight year old country.
- 22:51Speaker 8: This has never happened ever, even in this most extreme
- 22:56Speaker 8: Nisayao government that made its its desire hire basically to
- 23:01Speaker 8: perpetrate a push clear, very very early on in this mandate. Now,
- 23:06Speaker 8: the government was basically came back into power around January
- 23:11Speaker 8: first of twenty twenty three. On January fourth of twenty
- 23:16Speaker 8: twenty three, not the Attorney general, the Justice Minister of Israel,
- 23:21Speaker 8: Netsan yahu Man called Yariv Levin, announced that he was
- 23:26Speaker 8: going to hold a press conference, and he basically stood
- 23:29Speaker 8: behind a lectern and he said he was I'm quoting
- 23:32Speaker 8: now launching the first phase in a reform of the
- 23:37Speaker 8: administration of the state. Now that is the announcement of Akuditta.
- 23:42Speaker 8: We're changing the way the state is run. We're changing
- 23:44Speaker 8: the institutional structure of the state. For reasons that are
- 23:48Speaker 8: really beyond me. The media shorthand for what the government
- 23:52Speaker 8: did that day was judicial reform, but this was not
- 23:56Speaker 8: a judicial reform, never presented as a judicial form. The
- 23:59Speaker 8: government became very extreme also in terms of its efforts
- 24:03Speaker 8: to illegally hold onto power.
- 24:04Speaker 6: Really from the.
- 24:05Speaker 8: Start still until yesterday, the government, no government in the
- 24:11Speaker 8: history of the State of Israel has ever said an
- 24:13Speaker 8: official statement we're not adhering to the Supreme Court ruling.
- 24:19Speaker 4: And I want to get into some of the broader
- 24:21Speaker 4: implications of this, but on a specific case, we earlier
- 24:25Speaker 4: in the program talked about doctor Hosam Abu Sofia, who
- 24:30Speaker 4: is in the news because telling his lawyer this is
- 24:34Speaker 4: the end. They're trying to kill me. And the High
- 24:37Speaker 4: Court has pushed the Israeli government for some answers on
- 24:42Speaker 4: his situation. What does this ignoring of court orders, how
- 24:49Speaker 4: does you know? How does it play into the ability
- 24:52Speaker 4: of the courts to get information about doctor Abosophia's case
- 24:57Speaker 4: or the case of any Palestinian who was in administrative
- 25:00Speaker 4: detention or or otherwise in detention.
- 25:03Speaker 8: I was going to say, anyone, you know that there
- 25:05Speaker 8: protests Jewish protesters against this government who've been held in
- 25:09Speaker 8: administrative detention for more than four months. So again, on
- 25:13Speaker 8: many levels, the Nataniel government is a rogue government and
- 25:17Speaker 8: that sort of should be framing. I think our understanding
- 25:20Speaker 8: of what's happening. The government is not yet in breach
- 25:24Speaker 8: of a court order regarding doctor Hussam Abusafya. The government
- 25:30Speaker 8: this was another decision, but it was an appeals decision,
- 25:34Speaker 8: so it wasn't a ruling by the Supreme Court. It
- 25:37Speaker 8: was simply an order by the court yesterday accepting a
- 25:40Speaker 8: petition by an Israeli NGO called Physicians for Human Rights,
- 25:45Speaker 8: ordering the government by tomorrow to tell the court what
- 25:52Speaker 8: is his health condition, why is it so bad, and
- 25:55Speaker 8: to explain what his treatment is. But I do want
- 25:59Speaker 8: to want the lens a little bit because doctor Kusamabusafia,
- 26:05Speaker 8: who is a well known doctor and headed the Gaza's
- 26:09Speaker 8: Kamal re Dwan Hospital. He was detained in November twenty
- 26:14Speaker 8: twenty four. No charges have been brought against him, and
- 26:18Speaker 8: there's been no explanation by the Army of why he's
- 26:22Speaker 8: being held, despite you know, occasional repetitive kind of media requests.
- 26:28Speaker 8: He appeared to be in perfectly good health when he
- 26:31Speaker 8: was detained. And I mentioned all this because I did
- 26:34Speaker 8: make some inquiries yesterday. I thought we were entering to
- 26:37Speaker 8: war crime territory. It's not clear that we are, because
- 26:41Speaker 8: administrative detention during wartime isn't per se illegal. However, Israel
- 26:47Speaker 8: clearly has a duty of care towards him. There are
- 26:51Speaker 8: a lot of rumors going around about what has made
- 26:54Speaker 8: him so unwell, but I doubt we're going to hear
- 26:58Speaker 8: anything from the Army before tomorrow, the deadline given by
- 27:01Speaker 8: the court. And until then, what we have to face
- 27:05Speaker 8: is the situation in which Netanyahu gave extraordinary powers to
- 27:10Speaker 8: two people who are on the most extreme fringes of society.
- 27:15Speaker 8: So the minister in charge of National Security, which means
- 27:18Speaker 8: police and the prison service, is a guy convicted thirteen
- 27:23Speaker 8: times of hate crimes and terror Itamar Benvir, and a
- 27:27Speaker 8: guy who is officially the Minister of Finance of Israel
- 27:32Speaker 8: Secretary of the Treasury of Israel was also given, like
- 27:35Speaker 8: you know, a second job as a sort of secret
- 27:39Speaker 8: deputy Defense Minister in charge of the occupied territories of
- 27:43Speaker 8: the West Bank. Doctor Kusamabusafia is being held in a
- 27:46Speaker 8: prison in the West Bank, in offa prison. So I'm
- 27:51Speaker 8: very concerned, not only because I trust this NGO and
- 27:55Speaker 8: I trust his lawyer. I'm very concerned because the two
- 27:59Speaker 8: men who may be exerting power in order basically to
- 28:05Speaker 8: cause extreme suffering for doctor Abusafie. You know, these are
- 28:12Speaker 8: the guys who have the power to do it, even.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Though it's not a straight line, right right, Well, can
- 28:18Speaker 5: you break downe the political dynamics of the upcoming election
- 28:21Speaker 5: as well, like how have Neatnahu's opponents reacted to this,
- 28:24Speaker 5: how has lacud reacted to this?
- 28:27Speaker 6: What's what's it looked like in the last several days.
- 28:30Speaker 8: So it's just really the last two days because this
- 28:32Speaker 8: happened yesterday and today. But it's a really interesting question.
- 28:36Speaker 8: So the opposition actually came out pretty good, I would say,
- 28:40Speaker 8: as I think I mentioned to the former Prime Minister,
- 28:44Speaker 8: Lapide said that as of yesterday, this is an illegal government,
- 28:48Speaker 8: a criminal government. Then the another former prime minister who
- 28:56Speaker 8: was served with Lapide and a Ftalie Bennett said that
- 28:59Speaker 8: this is bringing Israel to anarchy. The Attorney General, who
- 29:04Speaker 8: i'm as i mentioned to as a civil servant, but
- 29:07Speaker 8: she came out with a very very powerful statement basically
- 29:11Speaker 8: saying this is an assault on the rule of law.
- 29:16Speaker 8: That is the first person from Israeli officialdom saying this
- 29:20Speaker 8: is an insurrection. A member of the Labor Party in
- 29:24Speaker 8: the Kanesset of a congressperson in Israel now Malasimi has
- 29:29Speaker 8: already called for Nitzagnel to be arrested for sedition and
- 29:33Speaker 8: for endangering national security. This is not as crazy as
- 29:38Speaker 8: it sounds, because under Israeli law, the Shinbeck, the Internal
- 29:43Speaker 8: Security Service, is statutorially charged with protecting the democratic institutions
- 29:49Speaker 8: of the state. Now, Nitzagnajo just a few months ago,
- 29:53Speaker 8: I think presaging the current crisis installed in a very
- 30:00Speaker 8: dodgy maneuver, installed a kind of messianic non democrat lowercase
- 30:06Speaker 8: D democrat as head of the shin Bet. So we
- 30:09Speaker 8: have not heard from the shin Bet. But inciting to
- 30:17Speaker 8: thwart the course of law is a crime in Israel.
- 30:21Speaker 8: So Nittagnani's government are getting themselves into deeper and deeper
- 30:26Speaker 8: trouble with every step the liqude has begun showing some
- 30:32Speaker 8: cracks and this really is very interesting. So the Minister
- 30:37Speaker 8: of Communications, the guy behind this particular kind of media
- 30:41Speaker 8: takeover law, came out fighting and he basically was the
- 30:45Speaker 8: one who put out the official statement on behalf of
- 30:47Speaker 8: the cabinet saying, you know, we've decided towards the Supreme
- 30:51Speaker 8: Court screw, to put it bluntly. But then there have
- 30:56Speaker 8: been two prominent members of Nitzanio's inner circle who have
- 30:59Speaker 8: tried to backtrack, and so one is the Cabinet secretary,
- 31:04Speaker 8: not a minister of the Cabinet secretary put out a
- 31:06Speaker 8: very confused, bizarre statement last night basically saying, no, we
- 31:10Speaker 8: didn't say we won't adhere to Supreme Court ruling. We
- 31:14Speaker 8: said we'll use all legal tools in our hands to
- 31:18Speaker 8: go against the Supreme Court ruling. They have no legal
- 31:22Speaker 8: tools because this is a Supreme Court ruling. But you
- 31:24Speaker 8: got the sense that there were probably some difficult discussions
- 31:28Speaker 8: being held, and I had the sense, yesdir I don't
- 31:30Speaker 8: have proof of this, but I have a lot of
- 31:32Speaker 8: experience with these people. I did have the sense last
- 31:35Speaker 8: night that there might be some n'taill ministers saying to themselves,
- 31:41Speaker 8: I don't want to go to jail for this guy,
- 31:43Speaker 8: and also saying to themselves, this is going to kill
- 31:47Speaker 8: us in the elections. And since last night there have
- 31:50Speaker 8: been leaks today of ministers being pretty fearful. It's important
- 31:56Speaker 8: to underscore that while Nitagna whu won to take control
- 32:00Speaker 8: of the media, and while Nittagna who has really put
- 32:04Speaker 8: together an unbelievably dastardly avalanche of laws that he wants
- 32:10Speaker 8: to try and get through the Kannesset in the next
- 32:13Speaker 8: ten days, basically before this Knesset session is automatically brought
- 32:19Speaker 8: to an end, and because we will be ninety days
- 32:23Speaker 8: before the legal deadline for elections, this government will automatically
- 32:27Speaker 8: become an acting government and its powers in Nitagna Who's
- 32:31Speaker 8: powers will be significantly curtailed again under law, assuming the
- 32:35Speaker 8: government adheres to the law law, they're trying to pass
- 32:41Speaker 8: any number you know of laws. And it's actually today
- 32:47Speaker 8: I heard a very interesting interpretation of this situation from
- 32:51Speaker 8: the leader of the opposition. Yeah you're Lapide, who said
- 32:54Speaker 8: he thinks that Bibi Nataille is trying to get an
- 32:58Speaker 8: invite to the White House as early as next week,
- 33:01Speaker 8: right because he doesn't want it. Yeah, he said so
- 33:04Speaker 8: on Fox News yesterday. Lapede's interpretation is that Nizagnielle doesn't
- 33:10Speaker 8: want to be in Israel for these kinetic votes because
- 33:12Speaker 8: his own voters they hate this legislation. They're the ones
- 33:17Speaker 8: who you know, obey the law and want to live
- 33:21Speaker 8: in a state of law. Their right wing, some of
- 33:23Speaker 8: them still worship him, but they don't want any of
- 33:26Speaker 8: These are laws that you know, transfer millions and millions
- 33:30Speaker 8: of dollars to the ultra orthodox, to draft dodgers, and
- 33:34Speaker 8: so Lapede's theory of what's happening is that Nizania wants
- 33:38Speaker 8: to pass all these laws so that his coalition partners
- 33:41Speaker 8: are happy and he can stay in power. But he
- 33:45Speaker 8: knows his voters hate it, so he wants to come
- 33:47Speaker 8: back from DC and say, well, so you know I
- 33:50Speaker 8: didn't vote for them.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Well to that, to that point, I wanted to get
- 33:53Speaker 4: your you're helping getting some contacts on an interesting exchange
- 33:57Speaker 4: on Israeli intelligence with the Lacud minister. You can put
- 34:02Speaker 4: up a ten here and you can tell me if
- 34:05Speaker 4: they if they have the translation right. But he's saying, so,
- 34:10Speaker 4: you mean ideologically you agree with Jewish Power, which is
- 34:14Speaker 4: the Ben Gevier party, and the minister says there aren't
- 34:19Speaker 4: many differences between Jewish Power, Ben Gavier's party and Lacud.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Let's just underscore that. Let's just make sure we're clear
- 34:29Speaker 4: about that. Who is she and what should we be
- 34:35Speaker 4: drawing from the fact that a minister in the government
- 34:37Speaker 4: is saying that actually Ben Gavier's party and the Lacud
- 34:41Speaker 4: are basically the same thing.
- 34:42Speaker 3: And also, let's pause for a second.
- 34:43Speaker 4: If there was a party in the US called White
- 34:46Speaker 4: Power that was as dominant as Ben Gavier's is, there
- 34:52Speaker 4: would be no mystery as to where they stood on
- 34:54Speaker 4: the kind of political spectrum.
- 34:56Speaker 3: But so what should we draw what is she saying?
- 34:59Speaker 4: What should we draw from her claim that actually Lakud
- 35:02Speaker 4: and Jewish Power are basically the same party At this.
- 35:04Speaker 8: Point, yes, she said they're ideologically indistinguishable. Look, I take
- 35:09Speaker 8: it very seriously. I don't take her as a person
- 35:13Speaker 8: very seriously. My Golan is basically a weaker female version
- 35:18Speaker 8: of Itamar ben Vir of Beisalid Smotrich of Yariv Levin,
- 35:23Speaker 8: the Justice Minister of Miki Zar, the Culture minister who
- 35:28Speaker 8: today tried to clean up this mess a little bit
- 35:31Speaker 8: and he tried to kind of make it clear. He said,
- 35:35Speaker 8: we're not causing a constitutional crisis. The Supreme Court is
- 35:38Speaker 8: because they made an illegal ruling. You know, this kind
- 35:40Speaker 8: of mucking it all up. This is a government that
- 35:44Speaker 8: in its totality is very, very extreme. My Golan is
- 35:51Speaker 8: accused herself by the way of all kinds of crimes.
- 35:54Speaker 8: She has one of these money wasting ministries just basically
- 35:58Speaker 8: intended to keep her onside. I think she's the Minister.
- 36:01Speaker 4: For Social Acquiry and the advancement of the status of women,
- 36:07Speaker 4: Thank you very much, exactly what she dream Yes very much.
- 36:12Speaker 8: Now, notice that she just said that she, at least
- 36:16Speaker 8: or her party has no ideological differences with a party
- 36:21Speaker 8: that is theocratic, anti democratic, profoundly misogynistic, and I could
- 36:27Speaker 8: continue segregationist. I want to mention somebody who I take
- 36:32Speaker 8: more seriously and who said the same thing yesterday, and
- 36:35Speaker 8: maybe you can get a clip of him too, Amina
- 36:39Speaker 8: Dove Begging. He's an academic. He's not a well known
- 36:43Speaker 8: public figure, but he's the grandson of the legendary right
- 36:48Speaker 8: wing Sorry.
- 36:50Speaker 4: No, I did see this comment. This is k Malcolm
- 36:52Speaker 4: Beggin's grandson, I believe it was, but go ahead.
- 36:55Speaker 8: Yeah, it's Manavan Begging's grandson, I think is in his fifties,
- 36:58Speaker 8: and he he has become increasingly, I would say, a strident,
- 37:05Speaker 8: an important voice in the Israeli public sphere. And he
- 37:09Speaker 8: says that this party led by Natania, who is not
- 37:11Speaker 8: the Likud, It's not the party created by his grandfather.
- 37:14Speaker 8: Remember that his grandfather, I think his seventies and eighties
- 37:18Speaker 8: was considered beyond the pale extremist. You know, it was
- 37:22Speaker 8: a right wing takeover of Israel the time. And yet
- 37:25Speaker 8: he was a man who believed profoundly in the institutions
- 37:29Speaker 8: of the state, who strengthened the judiciary, who spoke repeatedly
- 37:34Speaker 8: in public about the importance of democratic institutions. He wanted
- 37:38Speaker 8: to be a right wing prime minister, but he wanted
- 37:40Speaker 8: to do it with authority. And so now we have
- 37:43Speaker 8: his grandson and he said yesterday he said this is
- 37:47Speaker 8: not a constitutional crisis. He said, this is a Kahanist kudta.
- 37:53Speaker 8: He gave a really remarkable interview that I would urge
- 37:57Speaker 8: anyone to see because he he believes that he represents
- 38:02Speaker 8: what is truly the right wing, and he confessed in
- 38:04Speaker 8: this interview. He said that for a long time, he
- 38:07Speaker 8: himself voted for Naitanelle, that you know, he kind of
- 38:10Speaker 8: considered him a normal right wing leader, and that what's
- 38:13Speaker 8: happening now is an insurrection.
- 38:16Speaker 3: All right, Well, thanks for.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Updating us on this quite dramatic series events Nogatanopolski and
- 38:26Speaker 4: BB and beyond is a substect that she just launched.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Israeli journalists really appreciate you being here.
- 38:31Speaker 8: I'm flies with you, guys. Thank you.
- 38:34Speaker 3: You got it.
- 38:37Speaker 5: Massive gatherings in Tehran over the weekend for the funeral
- 38:41Speaker 5: of the Supreme Leader Ali Kamini, and let's put some
- 38:45Speaker 5: of this. Let's put this New York Times headline up
- 38:46Speaker 5: on the screen. They went with this headline, mourner's chant
- 38:49Speaker 5: revenge at funeral prayers for Iran's slain Supreme leader.
- 38:53Speaker 6: Just reading a little bit from the report.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Tens of thousands of mourners, including senior Iranian officials, packed
- 38:58Speaker 5: to run on Sunday for funeral prayers for the slain
- 39:01Speaker 5: Supreme Leader, as crowds chanted calls for revenge. Conspicuously absent
- 39:06Speaker 5: was his son and successor, Moushtaba Khameni, who has not
- 39:08Speaker 5: been seen in public since succeeding his father who was
- 39:12Speaker 5: killed at the onset of the war. And these crowds
- 39:15Speaker 5: were rolling and massive. Let's go ahead and take a
- 39:20Speaker 5: listen to the scene in Tehran over the weekend. So
- 39:37Speaker 5: that was the infamous death to America, chant and Ryan,
- 39:41Speaker 5: Just what's your reaction off the bat here to what
- 39:45Speaker 5: we saw. I mean, this was massive, massive support obviously
- 39:49Speaker 5: for a supreme leader and no Mashaba Khamene. Also though
- 39:55Speaker 5: a pretty clear sign of strength from the IRGC's perspective
- 40:00Speaker 5: into this operation where apparently the I ergycy was decimated.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Yeah, we were told that the Iranians would, just like
- 40:08Speaker 4: the Iraqis, would greet us with you know, candies and
- 40:10Speaker 4: flowers and liberties and would celebrate the our assassination of
- 40:15Speaker 4: common a. Instead, you have one of the largest gatherings
- 40:22Speaker 4: of people like in the world.
- 40:23Speaker 5: And after one of the largest slaughterings of Iranians in January.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Right, which is probably.
- 40:31Speaker 5: Which is why we thought they were weak, right, and
- 40:33Speaker 5: it would be easy for the Kurds to come in
- 40:35Speaker 5: and people would overthrow them.
- 40:37Speaker 6: This is what it looks like now.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Right, And the Iranians have put like have said that
- 40:41Speaker 4: they believe three thousand, at least three thousand. They put
- 40:45Speaker 4: out the names of at least three thousand people security
- 40:48Speaker 4: forces and protesters who were killed.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Or riot rioters or whatever you want to You know
- 40:53Speaker 3: that also that there.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Were some armed insurgants as well, So at least three thousand.
- 40:57Speaker 4: That is a lot of people. You see this, these
- 41:00Speaker 4: bizarre numbers of thirty thousand and sixty seventy five thousand
- 41:03Speaker 4: flowed by Trump and other people, no evidence that's anywhere
- 41:07Speaker 4: near that. Still, even three thousand is a lot. And yeah,
- 41:11Speaker 4: the Israelis and the Americans were convinced that the Iranian
- 41:14Speaker 4: people were desperate for regime change. They wanted maybe they
- 41:20Speaker 4: wanted the Shah, who know, the Shah's son, who knows
- 41:22Speaker 4: who they wanted back in. And it's a big crowd.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Does not necessarily mean you ninety percent support, No, not
- 41:31Speaker 4: all I still have.
- 41:32Speaker 5: That's not born out by any of the point that
- 41:33Speaker 5: people have been able to ascertain or it's I mean,
- 41:36Speaker 5: that's not an easy thing to do. But I think
- 41:37Speaker 5: I've heard Sarabamarri obviously make the point that it's it's
- 41:41Speaker 5: not like the IRGC has the support of a majority
- 41:45Speaker 5: of Iranians, but opposition to America has support of a
- 41:49Speaker 5: majority of Iranians.
- 41:50Speaker 3: It's right we have united the country in that.
- 41:53Speaker 4: I've seen some people salty at the death to America
- 41:56Speaker 4: chant and the death Israel chant, but not as much
- 42:01Speaker 4: saltiness as you might have seen in the past. I
- 42:03Speaker 4: think people are starting to like approach this with a
- 42:06Speaker 4: little bit of common sense. Well, for one thing, what
- 42:08Speaker 4: people might not know it translates to death to America.
- 42:11Speaker 4: But if you heard the rhythm of it, it's it's
- 42:14Speaker 4: just kind of a nice chant and it really means
- 42:16Speaker 4: kind They use it as it has the nice rhythm
- 42:20Speaker 4: to it, and it really means down with Like that
- 42:24Speaker 4: would be a probably more kind of accurate cultural translation,
- 42:28Speaker 4: down with America, down with Israel. That aside, Trump has
- 42:35Speaker 4: described this as Pearl Harbor, right. He compared it to
- 42:38Speaker 4: Pearl Harbor, right that because it was a surprise attack
- 42:41Speaker 4: in the middle of the negotiations. We are still deeply
- 42:46Speaker 4: angry in the United States about Pearl Harbor.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Pearl Harbor, they attacked the Navy in Hawaii.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Trump had a veteranshipman from Pearl Harbor on stage at
- 42:59Speaker 5: the fourth of July.
- 43:00Speaker 6: Did you see this miss this incredible?
- 43:02Speaker 3: Yeah, sure it was. I'm sure it was.
- 43:04Speaker 4: But you know, they attacked it, they surprise attacked a
- 43:07Speaker 4: military target. We thought it was dastardly because it was
- 43:10Speaker 4: a sneak attack. Sneak attacks or dastardly it was it
- 43:14Speaker 4: was on a military target. Imagine if the Japanese had
- 43:17Speaker 4: also hit a girls school in Hawaii and killed you know,
- 43:24Speaker 4: one hundred, you know, one hundred and fifty plus students
- 43:28Speaker 4: and teachers, mostly young girls, and then also killed you know,
- 43:33Speaker 4: FDR killed, the head of the military, killed the vice president,
- 43:37Speaker 4: you know, killed.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Like, how do you think we would feel at that point?
- 43:43Speaker 3: Like the chance?
- 43:46Speaker 4: I thought, and I think, but I think people in
- 43:48Speaker 4: the US are are actually much more kind of aware
- 43:51Speaker 4: of the context this time, and so they see that
- 43:54Speaker 4: chance they're like, yeah, okay, you know, what what we
- 43:57Speaker 4: did was really bad and and I get it.
- 44:02Speaker 5: Well, there are realist consequences to war, obviously, political consequences.
- 44:08Speaker 3: And being reckless and how you carry it out.
- 44:10Speaker 5: Now, I do think when you see death to America, chance,
- 44:13Speaker 5: even if it's translated into something.
- 44:16Speaker 6: That down with.
- 44:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I think most Americans look at that and say, well,
- 44:20Speaker 5: we definitely don't want them to have a nuclear weapon.
- 44:22Speaker 5: It's just a question of like the means to the end,
- 44:25Speaker 5: And that's I think for a lot of people. When
- 44:27Speaker 5: you look at our record the last twenty years, I mean,
- 44:32Speaker 5: look at a rock right now.
- 44:34Speaker 6: Is Saddam Hussein there?
- 44:35Speaker 5: No? Is it a much friendlier country to the United States,
- 44:38Speaker 5: Like significantly friendlier countries to the United States create a
- 44:41Speaker 5: power vacuum that created isis And so the idea that
- 44:44Speaker 5: you were going to have a war that wasn't significant
- 44:48Speaker 5: with a ground invasion and lasted for months and months
- 44:50Speaker 5: that actually truly decapitated the regime, I think a lot
- 44:54Speaker 5: of people were obviously skeptical of that, as.
- 44:56Speaker 6: They should have been skeptical of that.
- 44:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and here's the.
- 45:00Speaker 5: This is a show of solidarity for some chunk of
- 45:03Speaker 5: the country United against the United States. Not that that's
- 45:06Speaker 5: particularly surprising to anybody, But if you had showed scenes
- 45:09Speaker 5: of this before or as let's say, after we had
- 45:13Speaker 5: on February twenty eighth, if people showed you these scenes,
- 45:17Speaker 5: like you could fast forward and do like a time
- 45:19Speaker 5: travel jump and its like, this is what Iran is
- 45:21Speaker 5: going to look like in July and.
- 45:22Speaker 6: The war, by the way, it is going to be over.
- 45:23Speaker 6: We're gas but we're going to have a ceasefire.
- 45:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we're gonna be getting nothing.
- 45:27Speaker 6: What are we doing?
- 45:28Speaker 3: Right?
- 45:29Speaker 6: What are we doing?
- 45:29Speaker 4: And to your point about nuclear weapons? And people do
- 45:32Speaker 4: need to include myself, need to remember this. We've done
- 45:35Speaker 4: some polling on this question about Iran having a nuclear weapon,
- 45:40Speaker 4: and the American people are very much opposed to the
- 45:44Speaker 4: idea of Iran having a nuclear weapon. How much they're
- 45:47Speaker 4: willing to do just you know, see that outcome to
- 45:53Speaker 4: the end is up for debate. But if you ask them,
- 45:56Speaker 4: it's like eighty plus percent of people Democrats, Independence, Republicans.
- 46:01Speaker 4: I'm in the minority where I'm like, I don't care.
- 46:04Speaker 4: I'd rather nobody had them. Yeah, but if somebody's gonna
- 46:06Speaker 4: have them, what do I care?
- 46:08Speaker 6: But the other question is means to an end? Right?
- 46:10Speaker 5: Like again, when the war began, it was pretty obvious
- 46:13Speaker 5: people were shocked when the Chegos islands like that, that
- 46:18Speaker 5: ICBM got close to the islands.
- 46:20Speaker 6: It's like, well, if.
- 46:21Speaker 5: You take a look at the map of North Korea's
- 46:24Speaker 5: ability where they also say things like death to America
- 46:27Speaker 5: and sentiment. Uh, they already have like worldwide, we're in
- 46:31Speaker 5: their range.
- 46:32Speaker 6: Because that's just Europe, like the whole world is in
- 46:34Speaker 6: their range and they have nuclear weapons.
- 46:36Speaker 3: So it's why it's good that he's Trump's best friend.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I think we're good. Yeah, well Trump's button is bigger.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Don't forget that, that's right.
- 46:43Speaker 6: As we learned on Twitter at one point.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:45Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean the idea that the war was
- 46:49Speaker 5: going to turn transform the country.
- 46:53Speaker 6: Obviously, this is what.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Did just just not in the way that we but.
- 46:56Speaker 5: Not fundamentally transformed like the way Empowered.
- 47:00Speaker 4: Works empired the IRGC and brought them a lot more
- 47:04Speaker 4: revenue and lifted them out of the sanctions.
- 47:07Speaker 3: Abyss.
- 47:08Speaker 5: Now, given what drop site has reported, what did you
- 47:10Speaker 5: make of the I told his son not being at
- 47:14Speaker 5: the funeral?
- 47:14Speaker 3: Right?
- 47:14Speaker 4: So that's that was That was something that people have
- 47:18Speaker 4: have picked up on the reporting, was that he wanted
- 47:21Speaker 4: to be there and was really pressured, you know, not
- 47:24Speaker 4: to be there for what they say are security reasons.
- 47:28Speaker 3: We'll talk about in a second.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Now, you know those the legitimate nature of those security concerns.
- 47:35Speaker 4: It has sparked, you know, controversy inside inside Iran as
- 47:38Speaker 4: people are jocking for power. There's also some question about,
- 47:43Speaker 4: you know, how badly he was injured in the strike
- 47:46Speaker 4: that killed comment a Comedy's fourteen year old grandson, his
- 47:51Speaker 4: wife like his, a lot of comment Comedy's family, as
- 47:56Speaker 4: well as.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Senior leaders.
- 48:00Speaker 4: The word that keeps coming out is that he was
- 48:04Speaker 4: significantly wounded. So perhaps they don't want to show how
- 48:09Speaker 4: badly he was wounded. But at the same time, we
- 48:14Speaker 4: can put up B three here. The US and Israel
- 48:19Speaker 4: are maniacs, like they cannot be trusted to not just
- 48:23Speaker 4: kill anybody the first opportunity they get. So Trump told
- 48:28Speaker 4: Axios here that they agreed to quote take a week
- 48:33Speaker 4: off and that quote neither side will shoot at the
- 48:36Speaker 4: other in order to.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Allow time for the morning.
- 48:41Speaker 4: Trump also told Axios that he was shocked at the
- 48:44Speaker 4: outpouring of support for the man he assassinated, and he
- 48:49Speaker 4: ruminated at one point.
- 48:51Speaker 3: Quote maybe it's faked tears.
- 48:53Speaker 4: So there's hundreds of thousands of people coming out to
- 48:56Speaker 4: fake cry just to get one over on Trump, I guess.
- 49:01Speaker 4: But then Trump added, they're all there, one shot, and
- 49:06Speaker 4: we can take them all out, which isn't brackets, but
- 49:08Speaker 4: that's what he means. One shot and they can take
- 49:09Speaker 4: them all out. But we are not going to do
- 49:11Speaker 4: that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with.
- 49:15Speaker 4: So you can see even in that moment, Trump just
- 49:18Speaker 4: kind of salivating at the opportunity of more killing, like more.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Oh, now the new people that came in, I could
- 49:26Speaker 3: kill them all.
- 49:27Speaker 4: There's something captivating to him about the idea of just
- 49:30Speaker 4: being able to kill people with impunity. But the thing
- 49:34Speaker 4: holding him back, as he says, is well, then who
- 49:38Speaker 4: would we negotiate with.
- 49:40Speaker 5: Well, let's put B five on the screen. Skip ahead here.
- 49:43Speaker 5: This is a report from NBC News headline, US was
- 49:46Speaker 5: concerned Israel might try to kill Iran negotiators. According to sources,
- 49:51Speaker 5: US officials were concerned that Israel might try to assassinate
- 49:54Speaker 5: Iran's negotiators during recent cease for our talks in Tehran.
- 49:56Speaker 5: Was worried about that about the possible threat, according to
- 49:59Speaker 5: a US of official and an Iranian official with knowledge
- 50:02Speaker 5: of the matter.
- 50:03Speaker 6: Ryan, So that got leaked from US to the press.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Yes, this was crazy.
- 50:08Speaker 4: So you remember the Islamabad talks where Arachian Ghaliboff, and JD.
- 50:14Speaker 4: Vance all were there for like twenty four hours, and
- 50:17Speaker 4: then Vance kind of abruptly was like, we can't make
- 50:20Speaker 4: any progress. These guys aren't serious, and I'm going home.
- 50:23Speaker 4: So he goes home. The Pakistanis then escort the Iranian
- 50:28Speaker 4: delegation to the border, and as they're getting close to
- 50:30Speaker 4: the border, the US picks up that Israel has scrambled
- 50:35Speaker 4: fighter jets in Iranian territory headed towards or headed towards
- 50:39Speaker 4: Iranian territory with the intent of shooting Arachian Golliboff's plane down,
- 50:45Speaker 4: and the US itself then scrambles and tells they say,
- 50:51Speaker 4: allies probably you know Turkey, Egypt Cutter, you know, they're
- 50:54Speaker 4: working the phones, and the US dimes out Israel and
- 51:00Speaker 4: says tell the Iranians that Nan Yahoo's trying to kill them.
- 51:06Speaker 4: And so their plane makes an emergency landing just over
- 51:10Speaker 4: the border inside Iran and they get in cars and
- 51:14Speaker 4: drive like the eight hours to Tehran, which must have
- 51:17Speaker 4: been just an insane drive.
- 51:19Speaker 3: You imagine being in those cars, like.
- 51:22Speaker 4: You're like going through these like rugged winding mountain passes.
- 51:28Speaker 3: You're like, maybe what if we turned the headlights off.
- 51:32Speaker 4: Drivers like yeah, yeah, then we're gonna plunge off his mountain.
- 51:35Speaker 3: I think we need the headlights.
- 51:37Speaker 4: But then you're like, yeah, but if I don't want to,
- 51:39Speaker 4: you don't want to spook the drivers.
- 51:40Speaker 3: You don't exactly want to tell them why.
- 51:42Speaker 6: I like this out.
- 51:45Speaker 4: And everybody and you know, phones off, like everybody phones
- 51:49Speaker 4: in the bag. Yeah, turn turn your turn your satellite
- 51:53Speaker 4: devices off. So maybe if you have your phones off,
- 51:58Speaker 4: they wouldn't know which caravan to hit it. Then they're
- 52:01Speaker 4: just bombing like random, like Iranian villagers everywhere from.
- 52:08Speaker 3: But yeah, so this is our ally.
- 52:11Speaker 4: They So if there's any question about how hostile they
- 52:14Speaker 4: are to a cease fire and a peace deal, let's
- 52:18Speaker 4: let that disabuse any confusion.
- 52:21Speaker 6: And on the topic actually of.
- 52:24Speaker 5: The that's the right way to put an efficacy of
- 52:28Speaker 5: the military action.
- 52:29Speaker 6: Let's go to B four.
- 52:31Speaker 5: So we've also been told that Hamas is totally decimated.
- 52:35Speaker 5: This war was going to eradicate Hamas well. The speaker
- 52:39Speaker 5: of the Iranian Parliament, as you all reported here at
- 52:41Speaker 5: drop site, met with Hamas's Political Leadership Council chairman at
- 52:46Speaker 5: the Sunday delegation in Tehran during the funeral ceremonies. So Ryan,
- 52:51Speaker 5: that's also again it's a similar parallel. Now Hamas has
- 52:57Speaker 5: been much more what's the best way to put it,
- 53:01Speaker 5: much has has been much more damaged. Yeah, they're not
- 53:05Speaker 5: really shooting back October seventh, the post October seventh war
- 53:08Speaker 5: of course than the IRGC.
- 53:11Speaker 6: But here they are living to negotiate and living to
- 53:16Speaker 6: talk to the.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Iranians, right, and Israel continues to violate the cease firing Gaza,
- 53:23Speaker 4: and Hamas, to your point, has not really been has
- 53:27Speaker 4: not been hitting back, and Iran has also not really
- 53:32Speaker 4: made demands about Gaza part of its negotiating strategies.
- 53:37Speaker 6: We hadn't really covered. But that is interesting.
- 53:40Speaker 4: Yeah, they there's you know, there's a parallel track that
- 53:43Speaker 4: has a UN mandate.
- 53:44Speaker 3: It's really interesting that.
- 53:47Speaker 4: The Iranians, you know, have genuine respect for the UN
- 53:52Speaker 4: and you and take those processes seriously. And the fact
- 53:54Speaker 4: that the border piece got this UN blessing and has
- 53:59Speaker 4: created a negotiation track actually means something. It's funny because
- 54:04Speaker 4: we've here in the US were told that they're this
- 54:06Speaker 4: like rogue state and a bunch of terrorists. We are
- 54:09Speaker 4: the ones that really have the most amount of hostility
- 54:12Speaker 4: to the UN and to international law. But in practice,
- 54:17Speaker 4: like you know that that's ongoing now, they're they're trying
- 54:21Speaker 4: to be as supportive as they can. And I know
- 54:23Speaker 4: a lot of supporters of Palasan have been frustrated that
- 54:27Speaker 4: that Gaza has not been more right central to the
- 54:32Speaker 4: the cease fire negotiations whereas Lebanon has well.
- 54:36Speaker 5: And that was a huge obviously point of disagreement with
- 54:41Speaker 5: the Abraham Accords, right, was that the Palestinian cause was
- 54:45Speaker 5: being squeezed.
- 54:46Speaker 3: Out, which was the whole Yeah, that was the whole.
- 54:48Speaker 4: The whole idea behind the Abraham Accords was like we
- 54:50Speaker 4: can actually we don't have to solve this. We'll just
- 54:53Speaker 4: move We'll just move forward without it, right, without solving.
- 54:56Speaker 6: It, right, right?
- 54:58Speaker 5: Okay, So also looking at this of Hormuz market's about
- 55:01Speaker 5: to open here as we are recording this, but let's
- 55:05Speaker 5: put the next element up on the screen. It does
- 55:07Speaker 5: look like as drops reported here, according to City Bank,
- 55:10Speaker 5: crewed oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have recovered
- 55:13Speaker 5: to about seven million barrels per day. That is up
- 55:15Speaker 5: from near zero levels, as you guys put it, during
- 55:18Speaker 5: the height of the conflict. That's according to City analysts
- 55:20Speaker 5: who were cited by the Financial Times. But before the war,
- 55:23Speaker 5: the straight carried twenty to twenty one million bpd of oil,
- 55:26Speaker 5: that is, including fifteen million of crude and five million
- 55:29Speaker 5: of the refined petroleum products.
- 55:31Speaker 6: That seven million estimate, as.
- 55:33Speaker 5: Dropsite put it, likely under states actual traffic because many
- 55:36Speaker 5: commercial tankers have switched off. And we can go ahead
- 55:40Speaker 5: then put B seven up on the screens to report
- 55:43Speaker 5: from CNBC that a cargo vessel in the Red Sea
- 55:48Speaker 5: coming under attack according to the UK's Maritime Trade Operations Center,
- 55:54Speaker 5: So shipping across the region, I was going to say
- 55:59Speaker 5: unsteady right now, Maybe that's a good way to put it.
- 56:02Speaker 4: But moving upward, And as City Bank points out, seven
- 56:06Speaker 4: million is what they counted, and that doesn't count the
- 56:09Speaker 4: people that turned off their transponders. So if you were
- 56:13Speaker 4: carrying twenty to twenty one million barrels per day before
- 56:16Speaker 4: the war, and you've got seven million that you can see,
- 56:19Speaker 4: if you have seven million that you can't see, at
- 56:23Speaker 4: least you're getting back up to somewhere between half and
- 56:25Speaker 4: two thirds of the pre war shipment. The because we
- 56:32Speaker 4: are trying to fill up our strategic reserve, our inventories,
- 56:36Speaker 4: and fuel our global economy. At the same time, you'd
- 56:41Speaker 4: rather have more coming out than less relative to pre
- 56:45Speaker 4: war because we're so far behind. But at least this
- 56:49Speaker 4: is like the global economic ivy bag is just getting
- 56:54Speaker 4: a drip at least.
- 56:55Speaker 5: What do you make of this Red Sea report? Given
- 56:58Speaker 5: the chaos in Yemen over the last several.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Days as well, that remains this giant wildcard and remains
- 57:07Speaker 4: Iron's additional leverage that was not played during the war,
- 57:12Speaker 4: which is, you know, the Saudis were able to move
- 57:15Speaker 4: a lot by you the pipeline over to the Red Sea,
- 57:19Speaker 4: and you know a lot of global shipping comes through
- 57:21Speaker 4: the Red Sea. And it does show the value of
- 57:26Speaker 4: diplomacy to the United States. If you remember, the US
- 57:30Speaker 4: cut a deal with the Houthies that said, if you
- 57:33Speaker 4: stop attacking us our American ships, we will stop attacking you.
- 57:37Speaker 4: You can still attack Israel, It's not our problem.
- 57:39Speaker 6: That was a very pragmatic type of deal, and.
- 57:42Speaker 3: The Houthies like it and they stuck with it.
- 57:46Speaker 4: They made threats that they were going to join the Iranians,
- 57:51Speaker 4: and they would tell Israel, if you do x y Z,
- 57:53Speaker 4: we will join as trying to draw some red lines,
- 57:57Speaker 4: but they never fully entered, and it's because they had
- 57:59Speaker 4: this agreement with the United States.
- 58:01Speaker 5: And just an update on what happened in Yemen over
- 58:04Speaker 5: the weekend. I'm reading from an Al Jazeera headline just
- 58:07Speaker 5: from yesterday. Uthi rebels killed sixteen Yemeni government troops and
- 58:11Speaker 5: fiercest clashes in years that took place in Western Yemen's
- 58:17Speaker 5: their governorate is how it's put. But it's the They
- 58:21Speaker 5: had a minister of state and a cabint member aligned
- 58:24Speaker 5: with their government saying that the soldiers died in the fighting,
- 58:28Speaker 5: and violence, according to Al Jazeera, is now escalating. So
- 58:32Speaker 5: the politics of that, like Ryan put it, that's an
- 58:35Speaker 5: insane wild card in the region right now.
- 58:38Speaker 4: It could also and we'll see how this unfolds. Further
- 58:41Speaker 4: explain why the Huthis kind of stayed out of the
- 58:44Speaker 4: conflict because perhaps they felt so Saudi Arabia was also
- 58:50Speaker 4: cutting deals with everybody, okay, and so Saudi Arabia several
- 58:54Speaker 4: years ago cut a deal with the Houthis. They were like, look,
- 58:58Speaker 4: we're sorry, like this was a mistake, please stop attacking
- 59:01Speaker 4: our refineries. We will stop backing this fake government that's
- 59:04Speaker 4: in Riod now literally in a hotel.
- 59:08Speaker 3: We're out of this war.
- 59:09Speaker 4: And the UA kept going, kept going because that's what
- 59:12Speaker 4: they do. And so it is likely that the Saudis
- 59:18Speaker 4: leaned also on the Hoothies to say, please stay out
- 59:21Speaker 4: of this war, don't attack us.
- 59:22Speaker 3: During that to the Red.
- 59:23Speaker 4: Sea and with another agreement that who's said, Okay, when
- 59:28Speaker 4: this dies down, we're sweeping west and we're taking more,
- 59:33Speaker 4: we're taking more territory. And so that maybe what you're
- 59:36Speaker 4: seeing happen now with the Saudis saying, okay, look fine,
- 59:39Speaker 4: like we're we wish we hadn't gotten involved in this.
- 59:43Speaker 4: It was a little impulsive on our part, and we're
- 59:47Speaker 4: this between y'all, and and Saudis are still mad at
- 59:51Speaker 4: the Emirates that any damage that the Hoothi's due to
- 59:54Speaker 4: the Emirates, Saudis are gleeful for because they're fighting each
- 59:58Speaker 4: other over in Sudhan too.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: That's a lot of uncertainty amidst these efforts to have
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: deals in both regions.
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: We have the greatest deal maker in the history of deals.
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: Thank goodness, he's here, yes, and he is focused like
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: a laser on communism.
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: So let's talk about that Ryan
