- Courtnie Cotterell: welcome to the new podcast. This is her working life. I'm Courtney. Jordyn Fullmer: I'm Jordan. Courtnie Cotterell: And we are so excited to start this. This is something we've been talking about for a little bit, right, Jordan? It's like Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, we have. It's been in the works for a minute. Courtnie Cotterell: Yes, and we're so excited. So w today we just wanna do a nice little kind of intro and tell you a little bit about us as well as why we are doing this podcast and what kind of led us to come up with these kind of three pillars, I guess is what we can call for our podcast and what we're going to be doing. But first, let's start with us, Jordan. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, absolutely. So I have four kids and my oldest is nine and my youngest is two and I have three boys and a girl and so it's pretty chaotic right now. They're all pretty close in age and I did a lot of years of of just full time mom and I loved that. But I have always been somebody that wanted to build something of my own and so I discovered Amazon Influencer program. And that's what I do for work. So I'm mom and I do Amazon Influencer Program. And it's been an incredible journey. And so, you know, learning how to navigate and balance all of that has been insane. And that's where I met Courtney through was Courtnie Cotterell: Yes. Jordyn Fullmer: was the Amazon Influencer Program, which she's absolutely crushing it. Courtnie Cotterell: Yes. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, so I interviewed on an episode with Trevan and Cade, who run a software that we use. And Courtney interviewed as well. And so when I saw your episode come out, I was like, she's like a fellow mom. She looks so cool. But I didn't meet her at that point. So we both we both went to the Viral View conference, which is a software we use for Amazon Influencer Program. And You actually were teaching the class. That's the first time I saw you. She was teaching a fitness Courtnie Cotterell: yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: class for us. We it was just a fun morning event for the conference. And so she was the instructor. And I remember I was like, That chick is so cool. She was looking all swole up there. And so Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: we didn't actually meet officially until that evening though at the conference. And that was the first time we met. So that's kind of Yeah. Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah, and that was like three months ago. Crazy. And I yeah, I feel like I know you so we've been sending messages back and forth ever since, every day basically. And it's been nice to be able to have someone that I can like I don't know, kind of like moan and complain to, but also ask questions and the funny thing to me is the more that I've gotten to know you, we really kind of live these parallel lives. between like what what we're doing with Amazon Influencer, both being moms, we both are really into fitness and just trying to live a balanced but healthy life, I guess, while also trying to kind of build something for ourselves. So I live in Utah. Jordan, you didn't even say where you live, so Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: I'm from Idaho. Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: So we're not even like by each other but Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: It works. So, I have five kids and my I'm like kind of a like ten years ahead of Jordan. So I have a twenty year old daughter and eighteen year old son and then I have three girls that are like sixteen. Yeah, they're all having birthdays, so it's fine. But we're like sixteen fifteen and twelve right now. and kind of same thing. Like I've always I I went to college and wasn't really planning on working when I met my husband and then I've always had like a little something going on. And it everything I've been interested in has been kind of all over the place. But I did kind of simplify and start teaching fitness classes about, I don't know, seven, eight years ago. And I got into Amazon Influencer Program about two and a half years ago, which Jordan, aren't you about two and a half years about that? So we've been Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, about the same time frame. Courtnie Cotterell: in about the same time. But the crazy thing is is our husbands do the same thing for work, which is really wild. And we're both the only girls in our family, right? I'm like, what are the other similarities? I have five kids, you have four. I have mostly girls, you have mostly boys. Jordyn Fullmer: Mm-hmm. Courtnie Cotterell: But I do feel like there are a few other things. We'll probably release those as they come and let everyone know. But so, why Jordan, tell everyone why we wanted to start this podcast. Jordyn Fullmer: wanted to start this podcast because it seems like nowadays there's a lot more moms working and whether you know they're going into work or trying to do something from home, it's definitely a lot more common now than it used to be. And part of that is some moms just enjoy the work aspect. And part of it is, you know, in this economy, it's good to have a side gig and bring in some extra income for the family. And so in the podcast episodes, we just want to talk about all the opportunity there is with different types of work from different types of moms, but also touch on Amazon Influencer Program and talk about things that you actually need to do within the Amazon Influencer Program. I think there's a lot of stuff out there that tells you you gotta do this and you got to go that route. But we just want to talk about exactly what we've done to be successful in it. And so yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking with with everything. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. I agree. Jordan, did your mom work w growing up? Jordyn Fullmer: She didn't work. She worked for a bit, you know, when she had my older brother. And then she quit, I think when she had me. And then when we were a little bit older, she was a substitute teacher, which was cool for her. Courtnie Cotterell: That's awesome. Jordyn Fullmer: but yeah, so other than that, no, but what about you? Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah, so my mom worked growing up and we'll probably get into an episode where we talk a little bit more about this, but I don't know, maybe we need to interview my mom. But she worked growing up and she had kind of a different job and she worked nights. And so I grew up feeling like, you know, I could like my mom was working. She was a successful mom too. And you can do both, which I think is really important for people to know that you don't need to be like only a mom or only working. It seems like like, I don't know, back in the day when we were growing up, like If you had a working mom, you were probably going to daycare. And that's not the case anymore. I'd say a lot of people do work. So yeah. I think this is I just want everyone to feel like maybe they can see themselves in other people's shoes or maybe it kind of opens up just like someone's thought process in maybe being able to go out and find a job that maybe they weren't anticipating because there's lots of different types of jobs these days. So I think that's that's great. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, totally agree. I do think Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: going on this journey for me has done just that for me. Like it's opened my eyes and helped me realize that you can be both. You can be a really successful mother and a successful, you know, person that's working, bringing in money for the family. something that I kinda like you said, never saw for myself when I first got married and had kids. And so it's been pretty life changing for me. And I'm sure for you too, but being able to bring in money for the family and also, be a mom. So Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Agreed. No, that's great. Well, and I I'm really excited. We've been brainstorming different people that we can interview and I'm really excited because we have people from content creators all the way to attorneys, judges, you know, like people who work in the mortgage business. There's just so many people and so many different jobs that we highlight. And if you as a listener want to see or hear from a particular working mom, then give us those ideas. We're really open and excited and kind of want to just give people what they want so let us know but there are other things that we do want to talk about with our podcast and we kind of have three different things so it's work but then we also want to talk about fitness and also want to talk about motherhood and how they all kind of intertwine and come together just to kind of create this nice balanced life. and I mean is there really Jordan is there really any such thing as a totally balanced life? No Jordyn Fullmer: Not really. You know, if you've got if you if you're doing all these things, then it's pretty chaotic. But but Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah, that's true. Jordyn Fullmer: these are definitely things that have, you know, helped me feel happy and feel success. And so, you know, it's just maybe some Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: of our passions that we share. And so we do want to deep dive into that stuff. For sure. Absolutely. Yeah. We're we're gonna give you the raw. Like, we're not gonna like Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. And we'll we'll share some of the good and some of the ugly, right? Like we'll share like the reality. It's all about being honest. Jordyn Fullmer: Bull crap this, like we're gonna give you the raw, like what you want to Courtnie Cotterell: No sugar coating. Jordyn Fullmer: know, things that I wanted to know when I started this, and I didn't really know. You know what I mean? So I'm I'm Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. totally. Totally. No, I think that's good. Jordyn Fullmer: really looking forward to talking to fellow moms and women that are, you know, successful in their own way, and whether that's their own business or their own career. And I'm just excited to learn from them and feel inspired by them and you know, we're just we just are excited to, you know, help everyone feel inspired and motivated. So Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah, no it's true. So let's r do like a really quick rundown of what each of those three pillars would be. So with work, so give us a little rundown of Amazon Influencer the Amazon Influencer program, which we both do. Kind of tell us a little bit about like what what is that? If I don't know, what is that? Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. So essentially you have to apply using a social media account and once you get into the program, you start reviewing products around your house, filming yourself, reviewing them. And you're gonna upload these videos to your Amazon storefront, it's called. And then Amazon takes those videos and puts them directly on the product listing. And so when shoppers are browsing Amazon and they see your video and purchase the product, you can get a commission. And It's a really cool thing for me. It appealed to me a lot in the beginning because I loved that I didn't have to post on social media, to be honest. I think that's kind of a common thing. Courtnie Cotterell: Yes. Jordyn Fullmer: I think a lot of us moms are like, I don't want to put my face on social media, you know, for for that kind of stuff that we're just testing and trying. And so the fact that you can apply and then get in and then all of your content goes right on the storefront. And on Amazon, on product listings where Like I don't know if you've ever run into anyone that's said, Hey, I saw your video on Amazon. Have you? Okay. But like how often? Yeah, not very and Courtnie Cotterell: Yes. Yes. Have you? Not often at all. Twice maybe. Jordyn Fullmer: Exactly. And you she has a lot of videos on her storefront. I think I've probably had one person. And so my point is, is yes, your videos are out there on Amazon, but like not very many people actually see them. So millions, yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: Well, 'cause there's millions of products. So that's the crazy thing. And that's where I feel like we have a little bit of job security is I c I feel like there's so many products that need real life people reviewing them and and so anyway, Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Totally. Courtnie Cotterell: it's crazy though because I don't know. As as an Amazon influencer, like you hear the word influencer and immediately like, turn off. Like I do not want to Jordyn Fullmer: Mm-hmm. Courtnie Cotterell: be walking around and and granted there are certain people that do really well as an influencer. That's like a legit job. And we will be interviewing some of those people, but that's not something that I could probably do. So this is Jordyn Fullmer: Totally. Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: just like an honest like, hey, I use this product and and then you make money when people actually buy that product from after watching your video, which is crazy. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Yeah. It's it's it's just it honestly is just helping shoppers understand what the product looks like in hand. Where sometimes their pictures on Amazon or they just make the product look better than it actually is, or it's hard to tell what size the product is. So that's really the point of the videos we make that we post on our storefront is just to Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: truly help see the product in hand and see what it actually looks like and does. So Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. And I was gonna say like this week I actually was sent a red light therapy mat. And I've reviewed a lot of these. I know that you have too. And it's so Jordyn Fullmer: Mm-hmm. Courtnie Cotterell: interesting because I was looking at the listing as I was about ready to record and it gives this picture of this girl. So the mat was twenty-four inches by twelve inches. So like not big but not small, I guess. And the picture on the product listing was this girl laying on this like massive mat. It was probably like thirty-six inches wide in comparison. And I was like, that is the worst. Jordyn Fullmer: So Courtnie Cotterell: Like if I open that listing, I think I'm getting this massive map. Yeah. It's not. It is. Jordyn Fullmer: Full red light therapy mat. Yeah, it's it's very deceiving. The size specifically I feel like is so deceiving on a lot of the product pictures. So that's funny. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah, it's very true. I don't know how yeah, yeah. So okay, so if we when we start talking about fitness, like tell us what do you do you work out, Jordan? You do? Jordyn Fullmer: Yes. I do work out I try and work out, you know. I've I've gone through ups and downs with it. I was an athlete in high school. I played basketball Courtnie Cotterell: Okay. Jordyn Fullmer: and I played softball for a bit and I played volleyball growing up and stuff and you know, I just love all things sports. And so I loved physical activity and I did get into like weightlifting and stuff when I was in high school. But then as I started having kids I kind of fell out of it, honestly. I I think after probably Two of my kids, I had never gone and worked out for like two kids worth of time. And since I was first married too, I kind of stopped. Courtnie Cotterell: Mm. Jordyn Fullmer: And so I remember after I had my third baby, I was like, man, I just was defeated. You know, it's it's a it's a hard time like having babies and being in that fog and I didn't feel like I had anything for myself. And so my husband, I remember he was like, Let's buy this program, like He was doing the program himself that he'd purchased. And he's like, just full send commit to it. Like you can do it kind of thing. And so I remember I one day to the next, like started going early morning. I think I'd get up at like 5 30 or 6 AM. Courtnie Cotterell: yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: And I started doing that. And then I just fell I refell in love with it. And then, you know, once I got pregnant with my fourth baby, I'm not somebody that's great at working out when I'm pregnant. So I kind of stop again. And then Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: It took me a bit after my fourth baby to like consistently go again just because I was so busy and Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: I had started doing Amazon and stuff. But I knew that I loved it and so anyways, I ended up, you know, I've I've started going again in the last year, which has been great. And I go Courtnie Cotterell: That's awesome. Jordyn Fullmer: early mornings. I go early mornings right now with my kids so that I can be back to get to school and then I have two at home still. So it's Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: been working out for me. As long as I can you know, get to bed on time. But I know you I know you love working out. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. My goodness. Yes, yes. So it's kinda funny. I was a dancer all growing up. I I mean, I went through like an era of like playing rec soccer, I think. Like and I played junior jazz, which I'm in Utah, so you know, we have that junior program for the jazz team. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah, that's cool. Yep. Courtnie Cotterell: So we did that. but yeah, I danced all through high school and college and I remember I met my husband and he was an athlete at our university and He actually was an all American lacrosse player and he's like, you know, trying to stay in shape and trying to do it. So he's like, let's go running. I was like, great. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: But so he kind of got me into it. And then ever since then, I've worked out through, you know, all my pregnancies. the thing is, and we'll get into this in our in our third episode when we talk about fitness, is you know, fitness kind of changes throughout your life and based off your circumstances, what time you have. I mean, you were saying you work out early morning. I did that for years when my kids were younger. We had to be ready and out the door. But now I send my kids off to school and I go teach at the gym. So I actually am a fitness instructor. And so my workouts look a little bit different because I prepare my workouts for other people, which is interesting. and we can talk a little bit more about that as we go through it. But it's, you know, motherhood kind of shifts and changes and things like I'm like in this in this area era right now that I'm trying to navigate that's new for me, which is trying to parent adult children and maybe not parent them. It's more like give them advice and be friends. And Jordyn Fullmer: Mm-hmm. Courtnie Cotterell: but I do have, you know, a 12 year old at home. And so we're still trying to like navigate things. And it seems like with each child comes a different challenge. And so you know, you have to kind of pivot and switch how your parenting and and what motherhood kind of looks like. through those different stages as well. So I'm excited to kind of do a deep dive into those and we can talk further about all of that. But that's just like a little teaser, I guess. So but those are the kind of Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: the three main things that we're gonna be talking about in the podcast, which is gonna be great. And you know, some of the people that we interview, I don't know if they'll all be moms. I don't know if they'll all be into fitness. And I I mean I think we're trying to get people who all do work, but if there's like only two of the things that they do, then that's fine too. So I think we are going to kind of go through kind of deep dive episodes between the two of us talking about various things and we will focus on Amazon Influencer just because that's what we're doing. We're into it. but then we'll also be able to do these interviews which you'll see throughout where we'll be able to interview other people and kind of get a good feel for how things are for others too because we're not like we're not like the golden child or like the gold standard. We were still trying to figure things out ourselves. Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Totally. Totally. I've been at this for two plus years, like Courtney said, and I feel like there's days where I'm still like I don't know, I haven't figured that out yet. Courtnie Cotterell: Well someone was just texting me earlier that's also in the Amazon Influencer program. She was asking me all these questions and I was like, I just make it up every day. Like we're just trying. Like whatever you're doing, I'm doing that, but I can't tell you what days I do that because we're just trying to figure it out. And Jordyn Fullmer: Right. Legit. People have asked me go ahead. Courtnie Cotterell: I was just gonna say We say two and half years, which sounds like a little baby job because it is not that long. But let me just say that in the Amazon influencer program, that's kind of a long time because it's not been around for forever. Jordyn Fullmer: It is. Totally. Yeah, no, it's true. It's evolved a ton since we started for sure. Courtnie Cotterell: Goodness, yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: people will ask me like, what's your workflow? What do you what what's your systems, you know? And like I of course I kind of have systems, but I would Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: say there's a lot of times when I'm like, I don't know. I just try and do it when I can. Courtnie Cotterell: Like we're just trying to flip into the nooks and crannies. It's so true. Jordyn Fullmer: Like it's chaos with kids, you know? Yeah. I can't like schedule my day out perfectly every day because you know, with the kids it's impossible. Everything changes. Every day's different. Courtnie Cotterell: Right? Well someone gets sick and it throws everything off and you're just like, Well, there goes Yeah. We just Jordyn Fullmer: Totally. I guess today is Tendon Tooth a Little One. But yeah, we're excited to to share weekly episodes. And so that's the plan is we're gonna come out with weekly episodes and hit on all the things we've talked about in different episodes, whether that's the deep dive, the interviews, talking about the pillars. So it's gonna be awesome. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. That'll be good. And I feel like between the two of us we have some pretty good interviewees that we're gonna reach out to and see if they'll on our little baby podcast. Jordyn Fullmer: yeah. Yes, it's gonna be sick. There's gonna be some cool people that we bring on that have just interesting stories and we're just excited to learn and learn from them and, you know, get inspired by them. There's Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: one mom I'm thinking specifically that she like crushes it with a baking business that I'm excited to Courtnie Cotterell: Maybe. Jordyn Fullmer: see if she'll come on here with us. she makes like sourdough, she's so good at it. And she puts it all on her front porch, to my knowledge, and then like people come pick it up and I think they Venmo her. She's been doing it forever. She's probably been doing it for two years, so Courtnie Cotterell: Is it kind of like one of those, like is it just on a front porch? Like do people Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Courtnie Cotterell: is it pre orders or people can just like go and it's like an honor system? Jordyn Fullmer: I think she started with just people coming, but I do think there's pre-orders now because I think she's gotten pretty popular, so pretty cool. I know. I did too. She lives like an hour away from me. Yeah, I know. I was like, I would be one that would totally go get the homemade goods. Courtnie Cotterell: goodness. I wish I lived close to her, dang it. That sounds Sarda sounds so good. dang. She's not too close. Right. I know. Anything homemade. I I think in one of my previous like eras of my life, I would have loved to have done a bakery business. I actually love baking. And I Jordyn Fullmer: that's awesome. Courtnie Cotterell: yeah, well we can talk about that another time too, but man, I like I love making cakes. I it's so awesome. So I'm excited. That Jordyn Fullmer: That's cool. Courtnie Cotterell: will be really fun to talk to her and kind of get some get some just I don't know some inspiring info from her, but Jordyn Fullmer: Can be sick. Courtnie Cotterell: Okay, so next week we are gonna go all in and what are we gonna talk about? Jordyn Fullmer: gonna go all in on Amazon influencer stuff. We're gonna deep dive on everything you need to know, how we got into it, how you get started, and like the time that it's gonna take to scale the hours we put in every day and every week, and just questions that we had when we started that maybe we didn't necessarily get answers to. So we're just gonna Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: cover all of that. Courtnie Cotterell: Well, and I think a good thing to point out is that with anything you actually have to work at it. you you may get like ads on your Instagram saying, Amazon influencer, I just I record videos of myself at my house recording things at my house, you know, that I already own and I make two thousand dollars and it's like, mm, that's not totally true. So we can do a deep dive into that. That'll be good. Jordyn Fullmer: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, yep, yep. Yep. Courtnie Cotterell: my daughter, I'm gonna try to start her an account. She will talk later about her too, but she like, I gotta get her poppin' because after I talked to her she was like, I really she doesn't live with me, she's not even in the same country with me right now and she doesn't have any access to social media, which is what you need to do to get into the program. So I'm gonna try to get her into the program and we'll talk about that 'cause it's been a while since I've applied. Jordyn Fullmer: That's gonna be sick. I love that. And I love that for your daughter. Like it's such a good opportunity for everyone. So I'm excited to deep dive and kind of give you guys all the the tips and golden nuggets that you need to know about the Amazon Influencer program. But speaking of which, did you get any cool products this week? Courtnie Cotterell: Yes, yes. So I feel like I'm pretty organized and we can talk about this in our workflow too. But I don't really receive a lot of products that I'm not anticipating. And yesterday I actually got a massive box on my porch that I was not anticipating. And I opened it and you're gonna die. Guess what was inside? Jordyn Fullmer: What was it? Courtnie Cotterell: Like is it was one of those moments where I was like, is this real life? Yes. It was a box of it was a 10-piece box of pots and pans. brand new, all clad, like a legit brand. Their new Jordyn Fullmer: You're kidding. Courtnie Cotterell: H A one ceramic, you know, set. And I was like, Jordyn Fullmer: Dude, no way. Courtnie Cotterell: Are you kidding me? And I just made a video of it and was like, Okay, well now we have to decide Jordyn Fullmer: That's so cool. my gosh. Courtnie Cotterell: if I'm gonna keep my pots and pans or if I'm gonna switch. So we'll see. What about you? Did you Jordyn Fullmer: That's so cool. I feel like Courtnie Cotterell: get anything? Jordyn Fullmer: I did get a cool product this week too. And I feel like when those types of products show up, and even to this day, two and a half years in, I do that. Like I'll just Courtnie Cotterell: Right. Jordyn Fullmer: stand on my porch and be like, I cannot believe that like after receiving Courtnie Cotterell: Is this for life? Jordyn Fullmer: like thousands of products, probably at this point, like just staring at it and being like, I cannot believe this brand is sending me this for free. I got an assault bike. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. Jordyn Fullmer: It's pretty expensive Courtnie Cotterell: yes. Jordyn Fullmer: product. it's like the fan, like the big circle fan, and you like use your arms to pump it. Yeah, those things are sick. Courtnie Cotterell: yeah. Those are intense. We do this at the gym with some of the workouts that we program for people. Like legs only, arms only, like going and Jordyn Fullmer: Yeah. Yep. Courtnie Cotterell: the best thing about that is that the air is like blowing in your face as you do it. Jordyn Fullmer: It like blows on you. Yeah. So I was stoked about that. My husband, he was like, Did you did you did you see what you got out there? It's like it yeah, totally. Somewhere we gotta figure out how to get this up and moving. Yeah. man. Courtnie Cotterell: Those packages, they're so massive. You're like, I gotta haul this in somewhere. Like are my or right up to the front door. Yeah. man. Okay, well now you gotta level up your workouts, Jordan. Are you gonna sell it? Are you gonna keep it? Jordyn Fullmer: I know dude. I know. I don't know. We'll probably use it for a while and eventually sell it once we decide we're not using it anymore. man. Courtnie Cotterell: Yeah. man, well this will be great. Okay, well join us for the next episode and we will be talking about our deep dive into the Amazon influencer program. So this is her working life. Thanks for joining us. Jordyn Fullmer: Thanks everyone. See you on the next one.
