- 0:00Speaker 1: And here's the guy what runs the Trilogy Vet Center.
- 0:04Speaker 1: His name is doctor Josh Davis. He's a veterinarian extraordinaire
- 0:08Speaker 1: and he's here to answer questions for you about your
- 0:11Speaker 1: gods and your cats, your puppies and kiddies.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I panic called doctor.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Davis two days ago.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Because Oakley was not eating and throwing up, and I
- 0:23Speaker 2: had a panic that she had swallowed a part of
- 0:25Speaker 2: an antler, which I know you've said is not great
- 0:29Speaker 2: for them to have, no not morning, but I panicked
- 0:35Speaker 2: because I know if they get a big sharp thing,
- 0:38Speaker 2: they can get an obstruction.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Yeah, the antlers, uh, you know, like we talked about
- 0:43Speaker 4: for teeth can be pretty rough on them for sure,
- 0:45Speaker 4: but also if they do swallow a big enough piece,
- 0:49Speaker 4: they will.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Get obstructed sometimes.
- 0:51Speaker 4: And so it's definitely not a panic to at least
- 0:54Speaker 4: have us check on things to make sure there's nothing
- 0:57Speaker 4: going on, because I can tell you many times someone
- 1:00Speaker 4: was like, I wasn't sure there was a problem in
- 1:02Speaker 4: there was a big problem.
- 1:03Speaker 5: So have.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Well, I just wanted to say that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: When I called doctor Davis, uh, he said, you can
- 1:11Speaker 2: bring her right in and the X rayder and examined
- 1:14Speaker 2: her and I felt very seen and heard, So thank
- 1:18Speaker 2: you for that.
- 1:18Speaker 1: What have you? But have you learned anything from this experience?
- 1:21Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:21Speaker 2: I should not give her antlers, even though that wasn't
- 1:24Speaker 2: the problem, which which you knew before.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I mean I did, but that she really likes it.
- 1:29Speaker 1: But now what do you do?
- 1:33Speaker 4: But I'm glad she's doing well though, because that's that's
- 1:35Speaker 4: the important part.
- 1:37Speaker 5: I Hudson's doing fine. By the way, he's speaking of
- 1:41Speaker 5: dental month.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Yeah, he should be healing up great month.
- 1:44Speaker 5: He's healing up really well. When he lets me look
- 1:47Speaker 5: into his mouth. It's the groomor that he lets do
- 1:52Speaker 5: all that stuff too. So I have to wait for her,
- 1:54Speaker 5: wait for her report. What's the report, Tanya?
- 1:57Speaker 1: You know, why why would he not? Why would he
- 2:01Speaker 1: tolerate the groomer? No idea? Well, you know it's funny profession, Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 1: it's yeah, I mean it's funny. You watch you watch vets,
- 2:09Speaker 1: for instance, deal with your pets, and they seem to
- 2:13Speaker 1: have a different way about doing it where you go, well,
- 2:15Speaker 1: they never do that for me. The cat won't do
- 2:18Speaker 1: that for me. It's still for me, but will for
- 2:21Speaker 1: the vet.
- 2:22Speaker 4: They're trained and the groomer they always like the groomer
- 2:25Speaker 4: better than the vet because we don't. We always poking
- 2:27Speaker 4: proud at them. And you know, I get it for sure.
- 2:30Speaker 5: I just think he's you know, because I'm always pulling
- 2:33Speaker 5: a gunk out of his eyes and so he hates
- 2:36Speaker 5: me for that.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, the dry right here and they pull his hair
- 2:41Speaker 1: and they hate that. Let's see.
- 2:44Speaker 5: My dog, Hank is a sheetsu poodle mix, Hank, and
- 2:50Speaker 5: recently he's been having full body spasms when there's loud
- 2:53Speaker 5: sounds around him, like clapping or even the sound of
- 2:56Speaker 5: my other dog's ear when she shakes herself. What causes this?
- 3:01Speaker 5: He shakes to the beat of whatever the sound is.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Maybe the rhythm got him.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's interesting. It would be hard to say,
- 3:11Speaker 4: I guess. I mean, especially if it's a new development.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I would definitely want to know, you know, more history
- 3:16Speaker 4: about the dog, the age, if there's any other changes
- 3:18Speaker 4: going with it, especially for hearing, because if it's an
- 3:21Speaker 4: older dog, hearing decline can be a factor, and so
- 3:25Speaker 4: the louder noises it takes to even hear it, but
- 3:27Speaker 4: then that can scare them at the same time too.
- 3:30Speaker 4: That's why shaking could be anxiety or stress.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Why you should call us? So, yeah, follow eight seven seven,
- 3:36Speaker 1: six oh two nine six nine six. So the doctor
- 3:38Speaker 1: Dave was going to ask if you pointed questions and
- 3:41Speaker 1: get more information for you.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Let's see, what about the yak cheese for dogs? I
- 3:46Speaker 5: have no idea what that is.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Is that something you can buy.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I don't know if that falls into the squeezy cheese
- 3:54Speaker 4: category or if that's something yes.
- 3:56Speaker 5: See again, if you call, we can follow up. What
- 3:58Speaker 5: are you talking about? Would be the first question.
- 4:01Speaker 3: So to get so oaky, to get her.
- 4:03Speaker 2: To start eating again, I put I got some puid
- 4:07Speaker 2: pumpkin and put it on top of her food.
- 4:09Speaker 3: That is that good.
- 4:10Speaker 1: To her tongue?
- 4:12Speaker 3: If it's plain old pumpkin.
- 4:13Speaker 4: We don't want to get like the pumpkin pie spices
- 4:15Speaker 4: or anything like that.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Just plain old pumpkin. But that can help for sure.
- 4:18Speaker 4: It's a good fiber source and it can stimulate them
- 4:20Speaker 4: to want to eat.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 4:22Speaker 5: It helped someone's voice to text the yak cheese. It's
- 4:25Speaker 5: yak cheese. They are long lasting natural dog treats made
- 4:31Speaker 5: from traditional Himalayan recipe using yak and cow milk, salt
- 4:34Speaker 5: and lime juice.
- 4:36Speaker 4: I haven't heard of that one for sure, But all right,
- 4:39Speaker 4: as long as it's not an antler.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Let's see, good morning.
- 4:45Speaker 5: Is doctor Davis the only vet at Trilogy or do
- 4:48Speaker 5: I need to request him when I call for a
- 4:49Speaker 5: new visit?
- 4:51Speaker 4: So I do have a couple of others that do.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I'm a part time day here there. So if you
- 4:55Speaker 4: want a doctor, and I recommend this no matter where
- 4:57Speaker 4: you go. But if you get a vet that you're
- 5:00Speaker 4: you know, if you vibe with and you like the experience,
- 5:03Speaker 4: it's never wrong to ask for them for sure for
- 5:05Speaker 4: your appointments.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So and then in May and June I will.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Have two doctors starting, so definitely, then you know, ask
- 5:11Speaker 4: for who you want for sure.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Let's go to the phone, all right, Carolyn, this yere
- 5:16Speaker 1: Hi Carolyn? How are you?
- 5:19Speaker 6: I'm well, thank you?
- 5:20Speaker 1: Where are you calling us from one of the Jordan's West? Okay,
- 5:26Speaker 1: West Jordan? Oh that the mayor tells me that's the
- 5:28Speaker 1: best Jordan.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:30Speaker 1: No, And you have a cat named what?
- 5:34Speaker 3: No?
- 5:34Speaker 6: I have a dog named TIKEI.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Oh, I'm looking at the wrong one. Sorry, Okay, your
- 5:39Speaker 1: dog's name is what again? Okay, what's the problem.
- 5:44Speaker 6: They're not really a problem. I just am looking for
- 5:47Speaker 6: dog food recommendations. I got my tried and true I've
- 5:50Speaker 6: been without a dog for a year. Got my tried
- 5:53Speaker 6: and true Canaday off life stages and it contains millet,
- 5:58Speaker 6: which I was told was bad. Not one hundred percent sure,
- 6:02Speaker 6: but I'm way different formulated than it used to be.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I've always heard that Doctor Ross dog food has dog
- 6:08Speaker 1: gone good. Remember the commercials Doctor Ross dog Food, dog
- 6:14Speaker 1: and good?
- 6:15Speaker 2: What do you recommend Doctor Davis?
- 6:17Speaker 7: Well?
- 6:18Speaker 4: So there, I mean there's lots of I think the
- 6:21Speaker 4: options out there overwhelming nowadays, and everything is anything that's
- 6:26Speaker 4: a fad for people seems to follow in dogs. So
- 6:30Speaker 4: some good tips I think is that there's are a
- 6:33Speaker 4: lot of misconceptions.
- 6:34Speaker 3: I think you know, if you get just a good
- 6:36Speaker 3: quality food.
- 6:37Speaker 4: You're likely to get you know, by law, they're supposed
- 6:40Speaker 4: to include everything a dog needs to be healthy. Big
- 6:43Speaker 4: things you want to watch out for is grain free
- 6:47Speaker 4: diets are a big fad right now, and for some
- 6:50Speaker 4: dogs that can lead to actual heart disease and heart failure.
- 6:53Speaker 4: So I wouldn't I would stay away from grain free.
- 6:57Speaker 4: You know, it doesn't mean every dog's gonna have a problem,
- 6:59Speaker 4: but it's not worth the risk, I don't think, and
- 7:01Speaker 4: it doesn't really do anything for the dog anyway.
- 7:04Speaker 3: And then.
- 7:06Speaker 4: My personal kind of veterinary brands that I use a lot,
- 7:09Speaker 4: so Royal Canaan that's that's what I feed to my
- 7:12Speaker 4: own cats. I think that's a good brand. They've got
- 7:15Speaker 4: good non prescription and prescription foods. Science Diet is great
- 7:19Speaker 4: from Hills. And then Purina their pro planned food is
- 7:22Speaker 4: I think a good quality as well.
- 7:24Speaker 3: But that's not the end all be all, but those
- 7:26Speaker 3: are my favorites.
- 7:27Speaker 1: All right.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Okay, how about millet? Millet and dog food? Is that
- 7:32Speaker 6: good or bad? I just sort it was a filler, uh.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Same thing.
- 7:35Speaker 4: There's a lot of misconceptions just about filler and all
- 7:39Speaker 4: natural and organic and all that stuff. So again, I
- 7:42Speaker 4: think if you're just getting a good quality food, I
- 7:44Speaker 4: wouldn't worry as much about stuff like that because it's
- 7:48Speaker 4: much of it is geared towards marketing and just you know,
- 7:51Speaker 4: making you a loan towards something.
- 7:53Speaker 1: All right, there you go, thank you, thank you very much.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Thanks yeplator Maria, Hi Maria, how are you today?
- 8:00Speaker 8: I'm fine, I'm just fine.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Are you? Thank you? Where you calling? From Maria and
- 8:04Speaker 1: what's your what's your kiddie's name?
- 8:07Speaker 8: I am calling for Murray. My cat's name is Nochi.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Okay, what's up?
- 8:13Speaker 8: So Noki has lost three pounds since January. He went
- 8:16Speaker 8: from fifteen pounds to twelve. And I took him to
- 8:19Speaker 8: the vet and they said he looks great. All his
- 8:23Speaker 8: tests were negative. His appetite is normal, he seems to
- 8:27Speaker 8: have a little bit more energy. My vet does not
- 8:31Speaker 8: know why he has lost three pounds.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be for a cat, especially in that
- 8:37Speaker 4: amount of time. I think that would be for me.
- 8:40Speaker 4: That's a big concern. Yeah, for sure, especially if you're
- 8:43Speaker 4: not if you're not trying to do that, and I
- 8:47Speaker 4: definitely would make sure and it sounds like maybe you
- 8:49Speaker 4: have is ruled out.
- 8:50Speaker 3: The most common things for cats.
- 8:52Speaker 4: That will do that is diabetes will do that in
- 8:55Speaker 4: some cases, kidney disease, hyper thyroid disease, So I would
- 8:59Speaker 4: make sure to rule all those out as problems. Some
- 9:02Speaker 4: cats can also develop gastrointestinal issues. Sometimes it's immune system related,
- 9:08Speaker 4: sometimes it's cancer related.
- 9:09Speaker 3: So I just would make sure you've done very.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Thorough testing, not just a basic routine blood work or
- 9:16Speaker 4: something like that.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And if is Ifki's okay with revealing his secret, perhaps
- 9:22Speaker 1: you could talk to mind.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Ye, I don't know for sure. I mean, if it's
- 9:26Speaker 3: no health issues, that's probably a good thing.
- 9:28Speaker 4: A fifteen pound cat is often overweight, unless they're a
- 9:32Speaker 4: really big cat. But I don't like an unknown weight loss.
- 9:36Speaker 4: That's never a good thing.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Generally. Thanks for.
- 9:40Speaker 8: Go ahead ultrasound.
- 9:43Speaker 4: If if all other tests have come back negative, that
- 9:46Speaker 4: it is worthwhile.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I do think to do an ultrasound.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Yes, all right, thanks for Yeah, you'll buy. Yeah.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Let's see my dog, a seven year old boxer ate
- 9:56Speaker 5: some moldy dog kibble. She got sick and true up.
- 10:00Speaker 5: I got rid of the food, but she still has
- 10:02Speaker 5: thrown up twice since I got rid of the food
- 10:05Speaker 5: three days ago. Should I be concerned? Or will this
- 10:08Speaker 5: pass on its own? No blood in the vomit. She's
- 10:10Speaker 5: acting fine, eating and drinking and potty as usual.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Does it take a while to get that out of
- 10:15Speaker 2: your system?
- 10:15Speaker 4: It can, especially with you know, a moldy food, and
- 10:19Speaker 4: also it does upset the kind of the gi biome
- 10:23Speaker 4: that's going on in there, so it can take some time.
- 10:26Speaker 4: But if we are energetic, still eating normal food and
- 10:30Speaker 4: keeping most of it down and no diarrhea or anything.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Probably okay to give it a minute, but you know,
- 10:36Speaker 4: three four or five days that starts to get long,
- 10:38Speaker 4: especially if they're not eating and continuing to vomit, then
- 10:41Speaker 4: I would definitely be concerned about that.
- 10:44Speaker 5: My one year old kitty named Robbie has started howling
- 10:48Speaker 5: and crying for hours at night. He usually goes into
- 10:51Speaker 5: my bathroom when he does this. He doesn't seem to
- 10:54Speaker 5: be in pain. This has started about four or five
- 10:57Speaker 5: days ago. The only change I'm aware of is that
- 10:59Speaker 5: we've had tractors in the house working. They are loud.
- 11:03Speaker 5: I know it terrifies him. Wondering why he has started
- 11:05Speaker 5: doing this, He does seem anxious.
- 11:08Speaker 1: That's probably it.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that would be, you know, unless you can prove otherwise.
- 11:12Speaker 4: I would say once the contract work finishes, Hopefully he
- 11:15Speaker 4: doesn't hang on to that as a behavior.
- 11:17Speaker 3: But cats are They see.
- 11:19Speaker 4: The world very differently than we do, and even the
- 11:21Speaker 4: tiniest things can be stressful, and vocalizing is not uncommon
- 11:25Speaker 4: when they get stressed.
- 11:26Speaker 1: All right, let's go to Katie. Hi, Katie, how are you.
- 11:31Speaker 9: Good?
- 11:32Speaker 1: How are you all good? What's your dog's name?
- 11:35Speaker 8: His name's Bill Murray.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Okay, is there a story behind that?
- 11:43Speaker 10: There's just a quote from Bill Murray where he says, basically,
- 11:49Speaker 10: he's a really good actor because he looks like a potato,
- 11:52Speaker 10: and my puppy when I got him, looked like a potato.
- 11:55Speaker 1: There you go, all right, what's your question about Bill Murray?
- 11:59Speaker 9: Well, he's he's getten up there. He's eleven years old
- 12:04Speaker 9: this year. He's a pointer mixed with a cata hula,
- 12:09Speaker 9: and he has a lot of fatty lumps. He's a
- 12:14Speaker 9: couple of years ago I had like four or five
- 12:16Speaker 9: of them removed, and he just has a lot more now.
- 12:21Speaker 9: I'm wondering if there's anything besides surgery I can do
- 12:24Speaker 9: about that, because he's getting old enough that I feel
- 12:27Speaker 9: like the surgeries are a little bit riskier.
- 12:31Speaker 3: No, that's good question.
- 12:34Speaker 4: It's hard to control the fatty lumps. They're they're super
- 12:39Speaker 4: super common in older dogs and some breeds you'll see
- 12:41Speaker 4: them more than others.
- 12:43Speaker 3: And one of the.
- 12:44Speaker 4: Best things you can do in general, but also can
- 12:47Speaker 4: at least slow down the growth, is make sure that
- 12:50Speaker 4: they are a lean, healthy body weight. Obs dogs tend
- 12:54Speaker 4: to get more of those, and they tend to grow
- 12:57Speaker 4: a little bit more because there's just so much fat
- 12:59Speaker 4: available for the fatty tumors to grow. So staying lean
- 13:02Speaker 4: is really good. And I really only worry about fatty
- 13:06Speaker 4: tumors if they're getting just so big they're bothering the
- 13:09Speaker 4: dog or in a location that's a problem, or you know.
- 13:12Speaker 4: The other reason we'll remove them is just if you
- 13:14Speaker 4: don't like looking at him. But I do agree that
- 13:17Speaker 4: there comes a time where you probably shouldn'tut him under
- 13:19Speaker 4: unless it's necessary. But that's entirely related to health status.
- 13:24Speaker 4: You know, age is a factor, but it's not the
- 13:27Speaker 4: whole factor. Their health status is more important.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Oh, Katie, and Katie, thank you. The next dog or
- 13:32Speaker 1: cat I get, I'm gonna name them fatty lumps. Thank
- 13:37Speaker 1: you Katie. Here, we're gonna go to John real quick, John, John,
- 13:40Speaker 1: what's your question?
- 13:41Speaker 7: Hey, I've got a cat. His name is hot Pocket,
- 13:45Speaker 7: and he's got one eye and I don't I don't
- 13:49Speaker 7: know how he lost his eyes where I adopted from.
- 13:52Speaker 7: You know, the previous owners didn't know either. But he
- 13:55Speaker 7: also sneezes a lot, sometimes a bit bloody. I'm not
- 14:00Speaker 7: sure if maybe it has to do with like if
- 14:06Speaker 7: he has like damage in his nose, maybe from whenever
- 14:10Speaker 7: he got his eye lost or anything, and I don't
- 14:12Speaker 7: know how to like look at that or find out why.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, the sneezing blood, if the injury and surgery isn't recent,
- 14:21Speaker 4: I would say probably less likely to be from the
- 14:24Speaker 4: eye the previous problem. Dental disease is a big factor
- 14:28Speaker 4: for that too, So I would want to make sure
- 14:30Speaker 4: that there's not progressed dental disease. And the best way
- 14:34Speaker 4: to do that is to put them under and we
- 14:37Speaker 4: take X rays of the teeth and then we can
- 14:39Speaker 4: take X rays of the nasal cavity and just see
- 14:41Speaker 4: if anything stands out that way.
- 14:42Speaker 7: There you go, John, Okay, more likely dental Okay, it's possible.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, possible.
- 14:47Speaker 1: All right, thanks John, Okay, all right, thank you very much.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Got that dental special going, Yeah, yeah, go to trilogyvetsandy
- 14:56Speaker 2: dot com.
- 14:56Speaker 1: All right, thank you very much, Thank you, doctor Dabels.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Sorry you in a couple of weeks.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Thank you guys, Thank you
