- 0:02Speaker 2: Listener discretion is advised. The World's of Bigeon podcast, Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 2: to baitre gets Unfiltered.
- 0:15Speaker 3: A lot of people have commented that we may have
- 0:17Speaker 3: had the best substitute show of all time.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I don't know about that, but Salt and Peppa.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I remember DK Metcalf came into the league. That's funny,
- 0:23Speaker 1: he said, nobody in the league can cover me. Whichevery
- 0:25Speaker 1: receiver says he Buttle is like not even Jailing Ramsey,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and he's like especially not Jaalen Ramsey or like something like, yeah, I.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Have no knowledge of this celeb.
- 0:33Speaker 1: You gotta pay more attention Freddy all.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Right, you know they don't show that in the red zone. Hey,
- 0:38Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm doing fine? How you doing, John going?
- 0:42Speaker 4: I'm happy to hear that.
- 0:43Speaker 5: I'm happy of buctioning of your telling.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Sometimes you just do a little down trodden.
- 0:46Speaker 5: I worry about you.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah, No, usually I'm just mad I look at those
- 0:52Speaker 3: two players the way I haven't just described it. Which again,
- 0:55Speaker 3: this is why everybody was so excited about the Salt
- 0:57Speaker 3: and Peppa show last last Tuesday.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You young kids don't read reading.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's not that I don't like I love to read.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I don't know if I can sit down and open
- 1:07Speaker 1: up it's my problem.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But you can spend four hours scrolling on Instagram.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I think it's a pretty decent reader. But I think
- 1:14Speaker 1: I don't know. I just I'd rather be watching something.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I like to go outside, Fred and enjoy. What do
- 1:24Speaker 2: you want to be, Chris when you grow up?
- 1:26Speaker 1: I don't know, you know grown?
- 1:29Speaker 7: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:34Speaker 8: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:38Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:44Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium. It's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Fred, it's
- 1:48Speaker 2: Matt Nabooth. Evan's out, Paul's out, as been out right,
- 1:54Speaker 2: he's in and out. Yeah, but we're going to have
- 1:57Speaker 2: another off season show as we get a little bit
- 2:00Speaker 2: closer to training camp, just a little bit. Summer goes
- 2:04Speaker 2: so fast fast. Fourth of July is over now, we're
- 2:08Speaker 2: already counting down the days to July twenty third, which
- 2:12Speaker 2: is the first public day of practice. Quarterbacks and rookies
- 2:16Speaker 2: will be in the eighteenth I mean, what's today, the
- 2:19Speaker 2: eighth Yeah, we're talking.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Ten days from now, I know, ten days.
- 2:23Speaker 2: From now, and that's it. That's summer's over for us.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I sucks.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm trying to fight the part of me that is
- 2:29Speaker 1: excited to get going, like I want to try. I'm
- 2:31Speaker 1: taking some various days off over the next couple of weeks,
- 2:34Speaker 1: still trying to be here for the show. But I want.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm excited, like I want to get going, Like I
- 2:38Speaker 1: know that once you get going, you're going, and so.
- 2:42Speaker 2: That's once you get going, you're going.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But there's a lot to be excited about this year,
- 2:47Speaker 1: I feel like, and a lot of different stuff to
- 2:50Speaker 1: watch in training camp, a whole new defense to watch.
- 2:52Speaker 1: So trying to enjoy my vacation while I still cam,
- 2:55Speaker 1: but it's hard not to feel that energy coming that
- 2:57Speaker 1: there's going to be renewed sense for this Patriots.
- 3:00Speaker 7: It just got really nice out like only in the last.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Couple of you know, we've been waiting for this, Jude.
- 3:06Speaker 7: Felt like such a wash literally and figuratively with weather.
- 3:09Speaker 7: So I don't know, I'm soaking it up all I can.
- 3:12Speaker 7: I'm excited, but I'm like, you know, is.
- 3:14Speaker 1: The humidity, because I like that is like I cannot
- 3:16Speaker 1: you go outside and you're just so gross.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I'm trying trying to do some indoor painting, and like
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, you have to keep everything like cool and dry,
- 3:26Speaker 2: so I'm running the ac just but at.
- 3:29Speaker 7: The same time, you have to open the windows like ventally.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I'm good with that. I like the high.
- 3:35Speaker 7: Just sniffing paint.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I like, I like the high. But anyway, enough of that. Yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 2: so uh some Patriots News, we saw some evidence photographic
- 3:48Speaker 2: and video evidence of Drake and and the guys getting
- 3:52Speaker 2: together outside of ot as on the own. I love it.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I love it, including Stefan Diggs. So good stuff. I
- 4:01Speaker 2: love that, you know, getting together on their own and
- 4:05Speaker 2: getting that camaraderie and timing and all that. That's really hopeful.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Not that we're the only team that does that and
- 4:12Speaker 2: the only quarterback that does that, but it's just good
- 4:14Speaker 2: to see.
- 4:15Speaker 7: Yeah, based on rumors, I don't think I've seen anything
- 4:18Speaker 7: that confirms this, but it looks like they might have
- 4:21Speaker 7: been in North Carolina too, which makes me think that
- 4:24Speaker 7: Drake is the one that kind of corralled everyone to
- 4:27Speaker 7: go up there. So that's pretty cool.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Wedding was just over and he's like, I gotta get
- 4:30Speaker 1: my boys down. Sorry, yeah, sorry, and Michael, Yeah, training
- 4:34Speaker 1: camps are coming, but good things.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So did it look like.
- 4:37Speaker 9: More of a high school stadium or kind of right,
- 4:41Speaker 9: or maybe like a smaller college you know, there are
- 4:43Speaker 9: some bleachers there, but yeah, then again, the high school
- 4:47Speaker 9: stadiums down there are that's true, wild too, right, Yeah, it's.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Good that little leadership from Drake, maybe getting the guys together,
- 4:54Speaker 1: maybe refresher course before they get back here. Yeah, it
- 4:57Speaker 1: seemed like in my experience, spread like they really try
- 4:59Speaker 1: to do almost the install stuff in the spring and
- 5:03Speaker 1: not that they like hit the ground running, but it
- 5:05Speaker 1: is feels kind of like that once they get in
- 5:07Speaker 1: that it's maybe a little bit of review over those
- 5:09Speaker 1: first couple of days when they're walked through pace, I think,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and then you know, and then they'll get after it,
- 5:14Speaker 1: probably the second week. But yeah, good sign. You know,
- 5:17Speaker 1: Drake's get those guys going. You know, we gotta leave
- 5:19Speaker 1: the team.
- 5:20Speaker 2: And then NFL Network came out with their top one
- 5:24Speaker 2: hundred list. They do that annually, and Christian Gonzales.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Maybe yeah, I don't know yet. I don't know officially yet,
- 5:32Speaker 1: We don't don't think he might be he might be
- 5:34Speaker 1: in there, and I would imagine.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Am breaking jumping the gun a little bit.
- 5:40Speaker 1: No, that is coming up to. I think Thursday. I
- 5:42Speaker 1: think Thursday, Thursday, Thursday official pro.
- 5:46Speaker 2: If there's anyone that makes it, it should be him.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Of course, of course it here first.
- 5:52Speaker 7: Okay, you'll have something to talk about Thursday.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, what else? What else we got going? Well?
- 6:00Speaker 1: I was telling you about Wimbledon, Fred. I mean, I
- 6:02Speaker 1: I as much as I want there to be football news,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I mean I read like Reese's notes on Sunday and
- 6:05Speaker 1: I like, give me something, Mike, give me something, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 1: and he's he's kind of going through like what we do,
- 6:09Speaker 1: writing about the rookie profiles, and thought he had a
- 6:12Speaker 1: little bit of insight on Julian Ashby as the long snappers.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I think we're all like seventh rounder. Do you have
- 6:17Speaker 1: to draft a guy in the seventh ro locked? But
- 6:19Speaker 1: it seemed like he had a lot of different interest
- 6:21Speaker 1: and I like what Mike wrote about him, just talking
- 6:24Speaker 1: about his talent for getting the ball back really fast.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's similar to what they said
- 6:28Speaker 1: about Joe Cardona in the day. Yeah, but you know
- 6:30Speaker 1: what's that whole operation gonna look like I think that's
- 6:33Speaker 1: a that's a good question, you know, with potentially a
- 6:35Speaker 1: rookie long snapper, a rookie field goal kicker with Borgalis,
- 6:39Speaker 1: So you know some questions there that along that group.
- 6:42Speaker 1: You know, Paul made fun of me. We did a
- 6:43Speaker 1: little preview and Paul's like, I don't know if there's
- 6:45Speaker 1: a kicker battle, but I was like, well, but there's
- 6:47Speaker 1: always something to watch at the end of practice when
- 6:49Speaker 1: I like last year when Jeremy Springer had like everybody
- 6:52Speaker 1: gathers around and they're all hooting and hollering, and I
- 6:55Speaker 1: mean there's no space, and I you know, I like
- 6:57Speaker 1: that stuff. I like seeing how they do under pressure.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And Borgalis I think missed one extra point his whole
- 7:03Speaker 1: career there at Miami. So something new. Love to get
- 7:06Speaker 1: some consistency at the kicker position for this team.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It's been a while, yeah, I mean, you know, the
- 7:10Speaker 2: only thing people were talking about that you know, could
- 7:13Speaker 2: be a roadblock for him is dealing with weather, cold weather,
- 7:18Speaker 2: because he didn't have to deal with a lot a
- 7:20Speaker 2: lot of that growing up in his career. But like,
- 7:24Speaker 2: well we'll figure that out. If you have a strong
- 7:27Speaker 2: leg and you're accurate. Well, we'll figure that out.
- 7:30Speaker 7: I spoke to a handful of his coaches, like Manny
- 7:33Speaker 7: Diaz and who coached him as freshman year, and one
- 7:37Speaker 7: thing Manny said is like, it's not like they don't
- 7:40Speaker 7: travel up north to play games, you know. And I
- 7:43Speaker 7: don't know. I'm really hyped up about Andy. I think
- 7:46Speaker 7: he's not your prototypical kicker based on what I've heard
- 7:50Speaker 7: and kind of just seeing how he interacts in the
- 7:52Speaker 7: building already, Like everyone told me, like, you're not just
- 7:54Speaker 7: getting a kicker, You're getting a football player. He's a
- 7:57Speaker 7: Miami kid. He has a swagger to him. He won't
- 8:00Speaker 7: be just like by himself kicking into a net on
- 8:03Speaker 7: the sideline during a game. He's going to be on
- 8:05Speaker 7: the sideline talking crap. Like just really hyping up.
- 8:09Speaker 2: These kickers are getting better and better, stronger and strong.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It won't be long before we have a seventy yard
- 8:14Speaker 2: field goal. There's no I believe it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I believe it, Yeah, no question about it. But you know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I just I think he's the kind of player where
- 8:23Speaker 1: rookie you put maybe a little pressure on him early
- 8:25Speaker 1: and see you know how he does. But but what
- 8:28Speaker 1: what does it matter, Like I just don't feel like,
- 8:30Speaker 1: do you really know if you can kick in the weather, Like, oh,
- 8:32Speaker 1: well he was.
- 8:33Speaker 2: In height carcel Barcels used to like have this water
- 8:36Speaker 2: bottle and he'd like squirt the ball and get it wet,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and he'd stand so like his shadow would be over
- 8:42Speaker 2: the ball. So the kicker is like seeing Parcels shadow
- 8:46Speaker 2: on the ball, you know, anything to increase the pressure,
- 8:51Speaker 2: like imulate pressure.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I know Adam vin Terry South Dakota, but like, do
- 8:57Speaker 1: he ever really have to make a kick like he
- 8:58Speaker 1: made here? Like oh no, he did like six or
- 9:01Speaker 1: seven times in high school. This one will be fine,
- 9:04Speaker 1: Like you just have to have that swag. I don't
- 9:07Speaker 1: know that to me is worth a lot more. I
- 9:10Speaker 1: mean maybe when you get here in December and he
- 9:12Speaker 1: needs to hit a game winner for the first time
- 9:13Speaker 1: as a rookie. But I don't know, because Caustosia, I
- 9:16Speaker 1: think had the same concerns. Wasn't he from down South
- 9:18Speaker 1: as well and a baseball guy, And I don't know
- 9:20Speaker 1: if he had all I feel like.
- 9:21Speaker 7: It's kind of just something to talk about, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 7: like it's just a narrative thing. Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:26Speaker 7: Having played soccer, maybe your foot hurts a little more
- 9:31Speaker 7: after you kick the ball in the freezing cold weather.
- 9:33Speaker 7: But it's I don't know. I think it's a lot
- 9:36Speaker 7: harder to kick in the wicked, bad humidity.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I think the wind is the biggest thing, and that's
- 9:40Speaker 2: that's something that any outdoor stadium, it's every one of
- 9:44Speaker 2: them is different. The wind patterns here are different from
- 9:48Speaker 2: Giants Stadium, different than Kansas City. You know, you just
- 9:53Speaker 2: have to get used to it totfullly.
- 9:54Speaker 7: The new video board blocks a lot of.
- 9:56Speaker 2: That well, creates a whole different wind pas they used
- 10:00Speaker 2: to be.
- 10:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I remember Bill talking about that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, I mean he studied.
- 10:06Speaker 7: The wind pattern for how many years and then they
- 10:08Speaker 7: put on a video board.
- 10:09Speaker 1: There's like I wonder, though, like how much of a
- 10:12Speaker 1: jump it is for an NFL kicker with the things
- 10:14Speaker 1: that they talk about that goes into every kick, Because
- 10:16Speaker 1: I've heard Jeremy Springer talk sometimes where the amount of
- 10:20Speaker 1: detail that goes into, you know, every kick that they make.
- 10:23Speaker 1: And I'm sure college is a very detailed too, But
- 10:26Speaker 1: what's it like making that jump to the NFL. Yeah,
- 10:28Speaker 1: it's like to me, anything you did in college or
- 10:30Speaker 1: high school. It doesn't matter until you get here. Do
- 10:32Speaker 1: it here well.
- 10:33Speaker 2: And again, you know, like you said, there's a lot
- 10:36Speaker 2: of little details that you know the operation, and this
- 10:39Speaker 2: will be the first year in a long time we've
- 10:41Speaker 2: had a long snapper, like you said, other than Joe Cardona.
- 10:44Speaker 2: So that's to me, that's priority number one. Yeah, get
- 10:47Speaker 2: that operation down.
- 10:50Speaker 7: It seems like the two of them, though, are really
- 10:52Speaker 7: tight already. They spend a lot of time together. And
- 10:54Speaker 7: one thing that's promising for me is that I don't
- 10:58Speaker 7: think Andy is coming in here with the expectation that
- 11:01Speaker 7: it's going to be easy. Because his older brother won
- 11:04Speaker 7: the Lugraser Award for the best kicker in the country
- 11:07Speaker 7: in college. He was an All American and he got
- 11:09Speaker 7: to try out with the Bucks but it didn't work out,
- 11:11Speaker 7: So he's he knows how hard it is really to
- 11:13Speaker 7: make it in this league and how much goes into that.
- 11:16Speaker 7: So I think just having that perspective will be a
- 11:18Speaker 7: really good thing. Ultimately.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's good make your kicks. I mean, it's like
- 11:22Speaker 1: every year there's new faces here. And it's funny too.
- 11:25Speaker 1: You mentioned like those three guys are always like best
- 11:27Speaker 1: buddies forever. Right, It's like the punter of the long
- 11:29Speaker 1: snapper and the kicker, they're always together, but like there's
- 11:32Speaker 1: some change this year and you could get a new
- 11:33Speaker 1: friend one. Yeah, you know, it's it's somebody like Chad
- 11:35Speaker 1: Ryland was part of that group two years ago. He's out.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Joey slides in the group now. You always see that, right, right.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, It's it's an interesting position in sports. You see
- 11:48Speaker 2: these kickers. They get hot and then they get cold,
- 11:51Speaker 2: and then they get cut, and then they hook up
- 11:54Speaker 2: with another team and then they were good again for
- 11:57Speaker 2: you know, it's it's so weird.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you talk about the detail though, I
- 12:01Speaker 1: mean going back to like Ashby's snap speed, you know,
- 12:04Speaker 1: it's like those are the things that go into a
- 12:07Speaker 1: successful operation in the NFL, in a game of tenths
- 12:10Speaker 1: of seconds, hundreds of seconds, it's it's important.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I still say one of the best long snappers I've
- 12:15Speaker 2: ever seen was Lonnie Paxton. Yeah, I mean he was
- 12:19Speaker 2: incredibly accurate. He could long snap from the twenty yard
- 12:22Speaker 2: line and hit the goldpost like every time. It was
- 12:25Speaker 2: it was uncanny how accurate he was.
- 12:28Speaker 1: He's not the most random position in all the professional sports.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And it's always the same story too, where like I
- 12:33Speaker 1: don't know, I was in high I was in high
- 12:35Speaker 1: school and somebody just asked me to snap it and
- 12:36Speaker 1: I rifled it back there and like, wow, you really
- 12:38Speaker 1: got talent. And then I just became specialized as a
- 12:41Speaker 1: long snapper, like there's no other position. I mean, I
- 12:43Speaker 1: can't think of another position in professional sport.
- 12:45Speaker 7: Well, like if you want to play college football and
- 12:48Speaker 7: you're maybe not as genetically gifted as others, like what else. Yeah,
- 12:53Speaker 7: I think that's what Cardona's dad kind of had him doing, right,
- 12:56Speaker 7: if I remember that story correctly. His dad was like
- 12:59Speaker 7: a man like, if you want to play in the NFL,
- 13:02Speaker 7: this is your one and only avenue, so you got
- 13:04Speaker 7: to get really good.
- 13:04Speaker 1: At father like snap it, snap it, Like I'm like,
- 13:08Speaker 1: are they good? I don't know.
- 13:10Speaker 7: Well, it's like it's such an undesirable position on the team, right,
- 13:12Speaker 7: And I think back to like youth soccer and stuff,
- 13:16Speaker 7: like parents in the United States at least would get
- 13:19Speaker 7: upset if their child was thrown in the goal. But
- 13:23Speaker 7: really the goalie is usually the most athletic player. They
- 13:26Speaker 7: can jump the highest, they're the quickest reaction and that's
- 13:29Speaker 7: the best way to get a soccer scholarship. And in
- 13:32Speaker 7: Europe the goalies are like worshiped, you know. So it's
- 13:35Speaker 7: so funny. It's like, if I don't know, if I
- 13:37Speaker 7: wanted my kid to get a color college scholarship, a
- 13:40Speaker 7: girl should be either soccer goalie or playing.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Golf, well, golf out because if you go go soccer
- 13:45Speaker 1: goll you're signing up for pressure and you're gonna be
- 13:48Speaker 1: you're gonna be watching that like college game and we're
- 13:49Speaker 1: gonna go to you're gonna go to kicks and you're
- 13:51Speaker 1: gonna be like, oh my god, oh I know, totally, totally.
- 13:56Speaker 7: And those soccer camps are so damn expensive, and those
- 13:59Speaker 7: club teams expensive to.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Get started about the club teams and all this stuff and.
- 14:05Speaker 10: All that.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It's it's crazy how parents are just getting swindled, you know.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And the new thing now is it's not just the clubs,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's the personal training. It's sending these kids to you know,
- 14:17Speaker 2: facilities that do that. My son was one of them
- 14:20Speaker 2: that that trained kids. Yeah, so he knows like they
- 14:25Speaker 2: spend money.
- 14:27Speaker 7: I was doing a little networking at the Hashtag Sports
- 14:29Speaker 7: Award and there was a guy there who he lived
- 14:32Speaker 7: in Massachusetts for a while and his daughter played soccer.
- 14:36Speaker 7: We're just talking about how like the club sticker on
- 14:39Speaker 7: the back of the suv is like the new status
- 14:42Speaker 7: symbol for parents, Like what club team your kid is
- 14:46Speaker 7: playing on? Like it's the new burken bag if you
- 14:49Speaker 7: have that sticker on the back of your tahoe or
- 14:51Speaker 7: long wagoneers.
- 14:53Speaker 2: My kid goes to Harvard, they play on the Crabs.
- 14:56Speaker 7: Yeah whatever.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I've got a friend who does lacrosse, like that thing.
- 15:02Speaker 1: He's on the Red Hots. I think. I just see
- 15:04Speaker 1: it on social media where it's like you're traveling all
- 15:06Speaker 1: over the country with this kid who's like twelve. I
- 15:08Speaker 1: don't know is he going to get a scholarship or
- 15:11Speaker 1: what I see in hockey too, it's I know, scams.
- 15:15Speaker 7: And like the public heights not to go down the
- 15:17Speaker 7: rabbit hole, but the public high school hockey teams especially
- 15:20Speaker 7: just like how do they even like uniform a team
- 15:24Speaker 7: because all the kids go to like these private schools
- 15:26Speaker 7: or play juniors or clubs. It's sack.
- 15:28Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Now, my best friend's son was going to uh was
- 15:31Speaker 1: at private school. He's going to go to Dedham High
- 15:33Speaker 1: School next year, and he's going to get a chance
- 15:35Speaker 1: to play, Yeah, actually play on the hockey team and stuff.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And that's why they made that decision. You know, it's
- 15:40Speaker 1: I mean, they some of these private schools have like
- 15:42Speaker 1: twelve different teams.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Now, if you're that good, you'll you'll get noticed figure
- 15:47Speaker 2: out if you're that good. Yeah, all right. One another
- 15:52Speaker 2: thing I wanted to ask, because I don't think I
- 15:56Speaker 2: saw the results, but how did the Cape Cod newsletter feedback?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Did people give you responses to that? How did it?
- 16:04Speaker 7: I got some people on Twitter saying they loved it.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Did people use our recommendation? I hope so. Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 7: I actually was at a restaurant with my family's we
- 16:14Speaker 7: make an annual tradition the week of fourth of July,
- 16:17Speaker 7: going to the Lobster Pot in Provincetown, and I saw
- 16:20Speaker 7: a guy there with a Patriots hat on, and I
- 16:22Speaker 7: was like, I wonder if you read our newsletter? Did
- 16:25Speaker 7: he get this recommendation from the newsletter?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Here you go?
- 16:28Speaker 7: Yeah, if you guys have checked out any of our spots,
- 16:30Speaker 7: let us know.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I haven't yet. I got to get down there.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I haven't been down with cap yet this summer.
- 16:35Speaker 7: Well, be grateful you weren't there.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Let me tell you something.
- 16:37Speaker 10: It was.
- 16:38Speaker 2: It was crazy. So a lot of people for July
- 16:43Speaker 2: fourth got there early, but they left on Saturday. Saturday.
- 16:47Speaker 2: It was crazy, and then Sunday it looked like the
- 16:50Speaker 2: traffic wasn't bad. But then all of a sudden, late
- 16:53Speaker 2: Sunday night, people decided, Okay, we're gonna leave late, and
- 16:57Speaker 2: everybody had the same idea.
- 16:59Speaker 7: Now, downtown Sandwich probably gets mob with people thinking. People
- 17:02Speaker 7: probably think they can circumvent six traffic and go through
- 17:06Speaker 7: downtown Sandwich and then you're just in a parking lot
- 17:09Speaker 7: on a site.
- 17:09Speaker 2: So at night, like all of a sudden, like I
- 17:13Speaker 2: hear all like, you know, it's slow because they're in
- 17:16Speaker 2: a traffic gam I hear people's radios and I look
- 17:18Speaker 2: at the window and the road is just this is
- 17:20Speaker 2: nine thirty at night on a Sunday night. Everybody had
- 17:23Speaker 2: the same idea, Yeah, we'll leave later on sid it'll
- 17:26Speaker 2: be better, and it was. It was mad.
- 17:27Speaker 7: There's no good time to leave, really, I blame TikTok.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Unless you leave early in the morning. I feel early
- 17:33Speaker 2: in the morning you're you're good.
- 17:35Speaker 7: I feel like our New England culture is being appropriated
- 17:39Speaker 7: by people, because like when.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I go to the capelle appropriated by people.
- 17:43Speaker 7: New England, by non New Englanders. And I've I saw
- 17:47Speaker 7: a lot of videos about people talking about like what
- 17:49Speaker 7: the Hamptons used to be and what it is now
- 17:51Speaker 7: because of the influencers, and I think that's slowly happening
- 17:54Speaker 7: to the Cape because like I maybe pack one nice
- 17:57Speaker 7: outfit when I go to the Cape, and then it's
- 17:59Speaker 7: just like maybe because it's a vacation with my dad,
- 18:02Speaker 7: I'm in like track shorts, T shirts and a bathing suit,
- 18:05Speaker 7: like super comfy, super casual, like that's Cape cod Like
- 18:09Speaker 7: you don't need to be in a prom dress to
- 18:10Speaker 7: go get ice cream. And I'm walking around seeing these
- 18:13Speaker 7: people like Couse playing New Englanders with their Ralph Lauren
- 18:18Speaker 7: sweater with the American take a shot for every time
- 18:21Speaker 7: you see a sweater with an American flag draped over
- 18:24Speaker 7: someone's like shoulders, and people are just dressed to the
- 18:27Speaker 7: nines and I'm like, you're not. This is your first
- 18:30Speaker 7: time at the Cape. This is your first time at
- 18:32Speaker 7: the Cape, you know, and it's just but every place
- 18:35Speaker 7: just lines out the door. So it's like people are
- 18:38Speaker 7: sharing that are hidden gems on TikTok and it's they're
- 18:42Speaker 7: becoming bombarded. That's my my grievances. Last week. It's great
- 18:47Speaker 7: local it is well my aunt uncle said, this is
- 18:51Speaker 7: probably one of their busiest summers. And over thirty years
- 18:53Speaker 7: of having this coffee shop, it was just inste.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Up a little stand freend in front of your house
- 18:58Speaker 1: and you know, sell waters and you know people are starting.
- 19:00Speaker 1: You know, maybe I have a portal it there body
- 19:02Speaker 1: get somebody jump out, you know, little curses, rest stop.
- 19:07Speaker 7: Yeah, charge people. It's forty bucks to park in your driveway.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Yeah right, right, too tired. If you lived here, you'd
- 19:15Speaker 1: be home now.
- 19:15Speaker 7: Yeah, set up tens in your front yard.
- 19:17Speaker 10: There you go.
- 19:18Speaker 7: No vacancy. There's vacancy in my front yard.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Well see everything you just said is why people like
- 19:22Speaker 1: fred or like after Labor Day, they're like, this is
- 19:24Speaker 1: the best time.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Local summer. That's what it's called local summer. And September you're.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Still open, but nobody around anymore.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good spot, all right. What we got
- 19:33Speaker 2: a lot of emails coming in. That's great. Thank you

- 20:21Speaker 2: try that.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Drive right into the right into the car.
- 20:24Speaker 7: How many cars did they fight in the canal?

- 21:11Speaker 1: to get but they look like they're made of works.
- 21:13Speaker 2: But they are comfortable.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Yeah they are. Yeah, stomping. How'd you do it?
- 21:20Speaker 2: The casino not great? What were you playing? I put
- 21:25Speaker 2: forty slap machine and that's it. Get the free drins,
- 21:29Speaker 2: I know. But I like playing roulette because you can
- 21:32Speaker 2: you can really get a couple of hours there and
- 21:34Speaker 2: not lose a lot of money. Yeah. I don't trust
- 21:37Speaker 2: myself at the tables, Yeah.
- 21:39Speaker 7: Not even like blackjack, stay away.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Do not trust myself. Bad experiences in.
- 21:43Speaker 2: College I had.
- 21:45Speaker 7: I feel like blackjack is the best win probability.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It is, it is, for sure. Roulette is a suckers bet.
- 21:53Speaker 2: But if you spread it out and you don't piss
- 21:56Speaker 2: off other people. I played blackjack once and I do
- 21:58Speaker 2: you know, people were like getting mad at right, you know,
- 22:01Speaker 2: because I'm not doing what I'm supposed to take their
- 22:03Speaker 2: card or something.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Seconds of black jacket. It's ridiculous. Yeah, yeah, all right,
- 22:10Speaker 1: I know craps. You guys kind of play craps, all right, people,
- 22:14Speaker 1: I've had craps explained to me like seven different times.
- 22:16Speaker 1: But it looks fun. Yeah, it seems like that's a
- 22:18Speaker 1: good game too, that you have a good chance to
- 22:19Speaker 1: win some money if you know what you're doing.
- 22:20Speaker 2: But yeah, all right, well we're not allowed.
- 22:23Speaker 7: To gamble anyway, so good because I'm useless to casino.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Okay. Any NFL news coming out? Oh I heard something
- 22:31Speaker 2: today that the Mahomes was being interviewed on a podcast
- 22:37Speaker 2: and he was talking about his relationship with Tom Brady
- 22:40Speaker 2: and he said, you know, we've always talked, but you know,
- 22:43Speaker 2: this offseason they've talked more than ever, it seems, and
- 22:47Speaker 2: Brady's been giving him a lot of good advice. And
- 22:49Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, that's nice. Then I'm thinking to myself, well,
- 22:52Speaker 2: the headline here is if you're a Raiders fan, aren't
- 22:55Speaker 2: you a little mad about that? You know, your minority
- 22:57Speaker 2: owner is giving your biggest competitor tips and advice.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's kind of weird.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's not like it used to be.
- 23:06Speaker 1: It is, and it seems like there's a lot of
- 23:07Speaker 1: these popping up of like Tom Brady and you know,
- 23:10Speaker 1: he's everywhere now, which is great, but it's also like,
- 23:12Speaker 1: that's exactly what I thought too with Mahomes the Bezo
- 23:15Speaker 1: switch right right, like port Gino Smith's like, you know,
- 23:18Speaker 1: I give me some advice there, mister owner, how about that.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:21Speaker 1: But one thing I will say too, though, is I
- 23:24Speaker 1: thought Mahomes actually looked in pretty good shape. A lot
- 23:26Speaker 1: of people gave him crap last year. That was like
- 23:28Speaker 1: the first shot of him walking in first day of
- 23:30Speaker 1: Chiefs camp, and he looked a little a little bit
- 23:32Speaker 1: of a dad belly, yeah, but he looked like it
- 23:35Speaker 1: was in shape.
- 23:36Speaker 10: You know.
- 23:36Speaker 1: It's like you're getting one of those seasons where like
- 23:38Speaker 1: the Patriots in the middle of their great run, where
- 23:41Speaker 1: every season you didn't get a Super Bowl, it was
- 23:43Speaker 1: just a missed opportunity and it would you know kind
- 23:45Speaker 1: of I think nine was a year that like like
- 23:48Speaker 1: that really cut them back where they realized like we
- 23:51Speaker 1: really got to make some changes. But you know, even
- 23:53Speaker 1: like twelve thirteen where they're like AFC Championship but just
- 23:56Speaker 1: falling slow. You know, it's just you know, you've got
- 23:59Speaker 1: a window of time and it's so frustrating. And I
- 24:01Speaker 1: could kind of sense that with Mahomes of like, yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 1: we stumbled last year. We're hearing everybody talking and I
- 24:06Speaker 1: mean they've they've reloaded really well, we'll see how they do.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Tom Brady.
- 24:13Speaker 1: I saw a great Tom Brady video actually get on
- 24:15Speaker 1: like the TikTok feed, but it was just like him
- 24:17Speaker 1: talking about mechanics and throwing mechanics and going through it
- 24:21Speaker 1: and it was like it's just poetry in motion watching
- 24:25Speaker 1: that guy throw football. How refined he is and he's
- 24:29Speaker 1: just I think the question in the video was what's
- 24:31Speaker 1: one thing that bugs you about when you see high
- 24:34Speaker 1: school and college quarterback mechanics? And he said a lot
- 24:37Speaker 1: of it, like not to get too technical, but a
- 24:38Speaker 1: lot of it is like you're trying to pull your
- 24:40Speaker 1: left shoulder in your head and you end up being
- 24:43Speaker 1: less accurate where you rotate around your body. And he said,
- 24:46Speaker 1: you know, the Tom Howse thing is you're eating a
- 24:48Speaker 1: hamburger with this hand. So it's just really cool. I mean,
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's like watching the towel.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm a left heap, but and he would do it
- 24:56Speaker 2: on his right side because he's he would tuck us
- 24:58Speaker 2: towel under his left arm, keep that arm close so
- 25:02Speaker 2: that it, you know, it doesn't create that extra motion.
- 25:05Speaker 2: And like you said, the more motion you create, the
- 25:09Speaker 2: less accurate you're gonna be. You know, you want to
- 25:12Speaker 2: be efficient.
- 25:13Speaker 1: It's like it probably happens everybody where you find a
- 25:16Speaker 1: video comes across your feet and you're like, oh, that's interesting.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And then it was like a coach who had a
- 25:19Speaker 1: lot of different quarterback mechanics videos, and then he had
- 25:23Speaker 1: one with Aaron Rodgers as well, and Aaron Rodgers talking
- 25:25Speaker 1: about as he got older, really focusing on his feet
- 25:28Speaker 1: and planting his feet in the ground and generating power
- 25:30Speaker 1: from the ground and not trying to, you know, generate
- 25:33Speaker 1: power yourself, but it all coming from the base in
- 25:35Speaker 1: your legs. And again it goes back to talk about
- 25:38Speaker 1: long snapper mechanics, like these guys when you get to
- 25:40Speaker 1: this level, like every inch matters if you're a defender,
- 25:43Speaker 1: if you take one wrong step this way they gotcha.
- 25:46Speaker 1: If you're a quarterback and the balls here instead of here,
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's incomplete, you know, Like that's how much minutia goes
- 25:54Speaker 1: into all of these guys try to refer.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Rogers was amazing, or probably not as much, but the
- 25:59Speaker 2: amount of path he would generate with so little motion
- 26:02Speaker 2: like he would it looked like a flick. I mean,
- 26:05Speaker 2: it was just amazing. And that's why a lot of people,
- 26:07Speaker 2: you know, in his prime would say, you know, he's
- 26:10Speaker 2: the best pure quarterback. You know, forget about game management
- 26:14Speaker 2: and mental part, but just the mechanics, he was the best.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's something to watch, you know, with Drake,
- 26:20Speaker 1: and I mean that's you know, seeing Cam Newton and
- 26:23Speaker 1: seeing Mac and you get a lot of sample size
- 26:25Speaker 1: of these guys, and everybody's got their own way to
- 26:27Speaker 1: do it. But I'd like to see Drake continuing to
- 26:31Speaker 1: refine those things because with Brady you can tell it's
- 26:33Speaker 1: just muscle memory.
- 26:35Speaker 10: Now.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Everything to him is already built in. He knows exactly
- 26:38Speaker 1: what to do. The other thing he was talking about, too,
- 26:40Speaker 1: is just the answers to the test stuff that and
- 26:42Speaker 1: he just said he was talking about Kansas City's defense
- 26:45Speaker 1: and He's like, I knew those guys inside and out,
- 26:48Speaker 1: and so when I'm walking out of the huddle and
- 26:50Speaker 1: I see their body language and where they're kind of standing,
- 26:52Speaker 1: I already know what they're gonna They're gonna show pressure
- 26:56Speaker 1: and then compail to cover two. He's like, that was
- 26:58Speaker 1: my superpower. My superpower was mentally knowing what the defense
- 27:02Speaker 1: was going to be doing, and if this play we
- 27:04Speaker 1: had on wasn't going to work, I would adjust it
- 27:06Speaker 1: so in a way that I thought it would work.
- 27:07Speaker 1: And you know that coupled with no.
- 27:09Speaker 2: He's it's you know, everybody makes the analogy to chess,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and he was like a chess master. He had seen
- 27:16Speaker 2: so many things and played so many games that whatever
- 27:20Speaker 2: the configuration that he's seen it before. Just like a
- 27:24Speaker 2: chess master, they can look at the board and they
- 27:26Speaker 2: can see the configuration and they can they can think
- 27:30Speaker 2: three four moves ahead. And that's the way he was
- 27:33Speaker 2: and you know, unparalleled mental capacity.
- 27:38Speaker 7: Yeah, you only you only get that experience with the
- 27:41Speaker 7: longevity he had, which he also worked at right right,
- 27:44Speaker 7: everything just was to level one hundred with him, every
- 27:47Speaker 7: single detail.
- 27:48Speaker 1: That's what I wondered with Mahomes is did part of
- 27:51Speaker 1: what they're talking about tie to you know, Brady, when
- 27:53Speaker 1: Brady maybe even a little before. I remember, I just
- 27:56Speaker 1: remember there was six seasons when all of a sudden
- 27:57Speaker 1: he started wearing like a strap or around his forearm.
- 28:00Speaker 1: You're like, what's going on there? And you know he
- 28:02Speaker 1: talked about that being something that popped up that Alex
- 28:05Speaker 1: Guerrero helped him with, like getting like he thought he
- 28:07Speaker 1: was gonna have to deal with like tennis elbow the
- 28:08Speaker 1: rest of his life. But Alex Guero got in their
- 28:11Speaker 1: massages now enough times it got that well. But maybe
- 28:15Speaker 1: that's something that he's talking to Mahomes about, like, look,
- 28:17Speaker 1: you know you now you realize you have a window
- 28:20Speaker 1: of opportunity. How can you maximize it? And of course
- 28:23Speaker 1: everyone knows if Patrick Mahomes gets hurt Kansas City, you know,
- 28:25Speaker 1: they changed dramatically instantly. So maybe that's what what Mahomes
- 28:29Speaker 1: is focusing on here, is he gets up up in
- 28:30Speaker 1: it later in his career.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Let's see, this is not a good email, Matt writes in,
- 28:39Speaker 2: and I don't know where he's from. Eric wouldn't like that.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Were you guys talking about wins QB Wins? Yeah, I
- 28:46Speaker 2: don't know why, but a couple of people are talking
- 28:48Speaker 2: about eight wins, and he says eight wins would suck.
- 28:51Speaker 2: It doesn't matter anymore that they won four games in
- 28:54Speaker 2: twenty three and twenty four than them winning eight and
- 28:56Speaker 2: twenty two and seven and twenty All those years sucked.
- 28:59Speaker 2: How it looks is what matters, and if May is
- 29:03Speaker 2: decent and the defense doesn't suck, they'll win ten. Eight
- 29:06Speaker 2: wins sounds good, but every eight win team has either
- 29:09Speaker 2: a bad quarterback play or bad defense, neither of which
- 29:13Speaker 2: should be acceptable. Ten wins sounds like a stretch, but
- 29:16Speaker 2: it's surprisingly easy to win ten in the NFL. A
- 29:19Speaker 2: top twenty defense and just a decent quarterback play from
- 29:23Speaker 2: May should be enough. I predict everyone's saying eight wins
- 29:26Speaker 2: is good enough will be saying, yeah, that was absolutely true,
- 29:30Speaker 2: but I'm disappointed. The defense looks so bad and I
- 29:33Speaker 2: didn't expect that in December.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear what he's saying. I mean, I of
- 29:38Speaker 1: course we always say on the show all the time.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You got to see what it actually looks like. You know,
- 29:42Speaker 1: is there an eight win season that you're like, yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 1: but they did it without Harold Landry or you know,
- 29:48Speaker 1: Spilllane went down in Week three.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And the defense, there's gonna be a reason why you're
- 29:51Speaker 2: about five hundred, right, yeah, right, So if maybe a
- 29:54Speaker 2: key injury didn't happen, then yeah, they maybe would have
- 29:57Speaker 2: been a ten win team.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I mean I kind of agree though. I think you
- 30:00Speaker 1: see almost every year a team bounces back because they
- 30:04Speaker 1: have a good offseason, they maybe get some guys back healthy,
- 30:07Speaker 1: and then they're playing a last play schedule. And if
- 30:09Speaker 1: you look at the Patriots schedule this year, and you know, look,
- 30:12Speaker 1: there's gonna be some battles, no question. I mean, like
- 30:14Speaker 1: you look at that start with how Pittsburgh looks now
- 30:16Speaker 1: with some of the talent that they've gotten, that every
- 30:19Speaker 1: game is going to be a battle for that team.
- 30:20Speaker 1: But you know, would it be shocking to see them
- 30:22Speaker 1: with that schedule and if they stay healthy to get
- 30:25Speaker 1: the ten moons? I don't think it will. But this
- 30:27Speaker 1: is part of the excitement is wanting to see what
- 30:29Speaker 1: it looks like.
- 30:29Speaker 10: You know.
- 30:30Speaker 1: That's like, well, tell me, tell me the stories, like
- 30:32Speaker 1: all the different narratives that we're following. It's it's just
- 30:35Speaker 1: kind of before the season, just to put it in
- 30:37Speaker 1: a box and be like nine wins. That's what it
- 30:39Speaker 1: was like. Just seems so surface level that there's gonna
- 30:43Speaker 1: be so much going on that that's going to contribute.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Yeah, either way, let's go to Nate, who is in Connecticut.
- 30:52Speaker 2: What's up, Nate? How you doing?
- 30:54Speaker 6: I'm doing good?
- 30:55Speaker 1: How you go doing good?
- 30:57Speaker 10: My question for you is about Collevi and Chase. Sorry
- 31:02Speaker 10: if I whatchered the name a bit, but he recently
- 31:05Speaker 10: out spotted in Las Vegas training with Max Crosby and
- 31:10Speaker 10: it was like a Twitter quote that he was very
- 31:13Speaker 10: motivated going into the season. How do you guys think
- 31:16Speaker 10: he is going to perform as like a free agency
- 31:18Speaker 10: signing for the team.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Thanks chatter, Okay, thanks Nate.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Kylevons as he told us, Yeah, I think he's a
- 31:25Speaker 1: key player. I mean, in the perfect world, he's a
- 31:28Speaker 1: designated pass rusher, somewhat like he was last year. We
- 31:31Speaker 1: had him on the show and asked him about he
- 31:34Speaker 1: had five sacks last year one season, which was his
- 31:36Speaker 1: total after being a first round pick with the Jaguars,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and he said, well, it's easier when you're going across
- 31:42Speaker 1: from Max Crosby and he's drawing all that attention. So
- 31:44Speaker 1: I think the question for me lies within just is
- 31:48Speaker 1: key On White good enough on early downs that he
- 31:50Speaker 1: can kind of bookend with Harold Landry or is he
- 31:55Speaker 1: not quite there yet and they need to play Chase
- 31:57Speaker 1: On a little bit earlier in downs and you know,
- 31:59Speaker 1: have him on as a first and second. I don't
- 32:01Speaker 1: think that that's the best use of him. I think
- 32:02Speaker 1: ideally he's your third down. Well hopefully, yeah.
- 32:05Speaker 2: You get him, you get other teams into those have
- 32:08Speaker 2: to pass situation.
- 32:09Speaker 1: And then and then just let him and unleash him.
- 32:11Speaker 2: You know, you young fans may not remember Jarvis Green.
- 32:16Speaker 2: You know, he was no superstar by any means, but
- 32:19Speaker 2: he was a really really effective situational pass rusher for
- 32:23Speaker 2: this Teamah.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know. But I mean, you know, along those
- 32:26Speaker 1: lines in the nine season when Seymour goes and then
- 32:29Speaker 1: Jarvis Green has to step in to be an early
- 32:31Speaker 1: down guy, not quite as effective. And I feel similarly
- 32:34Speaker 1: with Chase On. I think a lot of it depends
- 32:37Speaker 1: on you know, the two rookies. Can somebody emerge and
- 32:40Speaker 1: bring some juice as well on third down? So those guys,
- 32:44Speaker 1: there's there's no question marks for sure, And I would
- 32:46Speaker 1: put health at the top of it. When you have
- 32:48Speaker 1: some veteran players like Landry and Chase On need those
- 32:50Speaker 1: guys to stay healthy. You need key On White to
- 32:53Speaker 1: take a step forward, and then I think they'll have
- 32:55Speaker 1: they'll have enough on defense, But set up before I
- 32:57Speaker 1: think next year that's the position to really probably fil
- 33:00Speaker 1: becus On of course, number one receiver. You're always on
- 33:01Speaker 1: the look up for those. But get into the draft.
- 33:04Speaker 1: What do the edge guys look like? Is there the
- 33:07Speaker 1: kind of guy that we could really build around all
- 33:09Speaker 1: coming off the edge?
- 33:10Speaker 10: Uh?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Anthony's in Seattle? Hey, Anthony, Hey, what's up fraying with
- 33:15Speaker 2: up my people? Anthony?
- 33:16Speaker 6: Hey, I got a bone to pick with you guys.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Okay, pick it all right.
- 33:21Speaker 6: So when a player comes into the studio to join
- 33:24Speaker 6: the show, I would think that you guys would use
- 33:26Speaker 6: that as an opportunity to be rude and disrespectful. Why
- 33:28Speaker 6: does the guys say the type of thing that improves
- 33:32Speaker 6: your standing with the team and make more players want
- 33:34Speaker 6: to come and join the show. So I don't get why.
- 33:36Speaker 6: You know, Pop Douglas a young, productive, why receiver this
- 33:40Speaker 6: team and I love Pop Douglas would have been too
- 33:43Speaker 6: much to ask for, Like somebody to stand up and
- 33:45Speaker 6: I don't know, spit in the guy's face or something
- 33:47Speaker 6: up at at bare minimum of fistfight. Right, Obviously, obviously
- 33:51Speaker 6: I'm kidding those of you who first time listeners out there.
- 33:54Speaker 6: The PU crew does not disrespect the players. Hey, one
- 33:59Speaker 6: quick thing, I phone, it's a rules thing, off season things.
- 34:03Speaker 6: What do you guys think of I know you guys
- 34:06Speaker 6: have talked about on the show in the past. We
- 34:08Speaker 6: all kind of get a little bit annoyed at the
- 34:10Speaker 6: defensive the illegal contact or the defensive holding five yard
- 34:14Speaker 6: penalty automatic first down thing, And I always thought, what
- 34:18Speaker 6: if they did if they changed that to a not
- 34:22Speaker 6: automatic first down, but a ten yard penalty, because then
- 34:26Speaker 6: what Because I think the best rule changes are the
- 34:28Speaker 6: ones that don't really change the game in the bulk
- 34:30Speaker 6: of it, Like, it doesn't really change what's happening on
- 34:32Speaker 6: the field except for the few situations where you would
- 34:35Speaker 6: like for it to be different. And so it's not
- 34:36Speaker 6: necessarily like a third and seven a third and six,
- 34:39Speaker 6: which are a lot more common. It's usually less than
- 34:41Speaker 6: ten yards than a third down anyways, So ten yard
- 34:43Speaker 6: pillalty is going to give you the first down, but
- 34:44Speaker 6: it's the third. You know when you got to you
- 34:47Speaker 6: gotta sack on first down. You know it's the second
- 34:50Speaker 6: and seventeen, you know, then it's third and fourteen, third
- 34:52Speaker 6: and thirteen, and then like a sometimes tickie pack, you know,
- 34:56Speaker 6: holding or something with a five yard penalties. That's gonna
- 34:59Speaker 6: like white, I felt the good defensive play that the
- 35:02Speaker 6: defense made, you know what I mean, And so I
- 35:04Speaker 6: would like to be you know, when the third and
- 35:06Speaker 6: fourteen come up? Okay, holding or illegal contact. Now it's
- 35:10Speaker 6: third and four.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Yeah, but aren't you gonna aren't you gonna coach that? Like, hey,
- 35:14Speaker 2: if it's third and fourteen, third and whatever over ten yards. Hey,
- 35:18Speaker 2: if you think you're beat hold them, it's only ten yards.
- 35:21Speaker 6: But then well then why would you Now you're putting
- 35:23Speaker 6: yourself in a third and four as opposed to.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Do, but at least you at least you have another
- 35:27Speaker 2: chance to live. At least you have another third down
- 35:30Speaker 2: play instead of you get beat and it's a first down. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 2: I mean, no, I hear what you're saying. I've heard
- 35:37Speaker 2: some other people have said the same idea. Make it
- 35:40Speaker 2: a ten yard penalty instead of an automatic first down.
- 35:44Speaker 2: But that's the precise reason why it is an automatic
- 35:47Speaker 2: first down is to decentivize teams from using that as
- 35:52Speaker 2: a crutch when you get beat. And it's the same
- 35:55Speaker 2: thing with past interference. You know, in college it's a
- 35:59Speaker 2: fifteen yard pen in the pros, it's a spot foul
- 36:02Speaker 2: in a first down because they don't want guys dragging
- 36:06Speaker 2: players down when they get beat. They want to take
- 36:09Speaker 2: that away. They want to reward the player who does
- 36:12Speaker 2: the beating. They want to reward the player who got
- 36:15Speaker 2: open instead of you know, having an out for someone,
- 36:21Speaker 2: you know, a on a really long play to just
- 36:23Speaker 2: tackle the guy. And it's a fifteen yard penalty. And
- 36:25Speaker 2: I would coach that, Yeah, I would say, don't you know.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Especially in the hail marys.
- 36:30Speaker 7: Yeah, big plays.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Yes, it's the big hal Mary.
- 36:32Speaker 2: You think he's gonna catch it right right, Just it's
- 36:34Speaker 2: fifteen yards. Okay, we'll we'll live to play another down
- 36:38Speaker 2: instead of getting toasted like that. So I get the
- 36:41Speaker 2: reasoning for the way the rules are now. I also
- 36:45Speaker 2: understand the frustration. Oh man, you know, you know he
- 36:50Speaker 2: held the guy and like otherwise it was you know,
- 36:55Speaker 2: could it have been called yeah? But did it have
- 36:58Speaker 2: to be called no? Especially when it's against your team,
- 37:01Speaker 2: I understand, but I hesitate to change the rule. I
- 37:05Speaker 2: really do.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there's unintended consequences I think for a
- 37:08Speaker 1: lot of these rule changes, and that's I mean, you
- 37:10Speaker 1: laid it out perfectly with that, because that's I mean,
- 37:12Speaker 1: that seems like an easy one, and especially when you're
- 37:14Speaker 1: just so frustrated, when you know someone like Joe Flacco
- 37:16Speaker 1: just chucks a ball down the air like forty yards
- 37:19Speaker 1: and it's like not even really that close. The guy
- 37:21Speaker 1: didn't really have a chance, but well there's a flag
- 37:23Speaker 1: and it's just that now it's a forty yard play. Yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 1: I mean, I mean we saw the Patriots take advantage
- 37:28Speaker 1: of it with Brandon Cooks even too. You know, having
- 37:30Speaker 1: a guy that you can get downfield and you know
- 37:32Speaker 1: if he's not going to catch it, he might draw
- 37:33Speaker 1: a p I too.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Now, Now, what I do think they should do is
- 37:36Speaker 2: make every call, including those reviewable.
- 37:40Speaker 6: Now.
- 37:40Speaker 2: I know it's a lot more tough to say, Okay,
- 37:44Speaker 2: did that play keep him from catching the ball. It's
- 37:48Speaker 2: a little bit more subjective, but I do think every
- 37:52Speaker 2: like Belichick, agrees every call should be reviewable. That doesn't
- 37:56Speaker 2: mean you increase the number of reviewable you know, reviews
- 37:59Speaker 2: that anyone team has. You know, if you if you
- 38:02Speaker 2: use it, you lose it if you're wrong, regardless, so
- 38:06Speaker 2: you don't get any more reviews. But every play, every
- 38:09Speaker 2: flag should be reviewable in my opinion.
- 38:12Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's a good, long running argument. Paul's
- 38:15Speaker 1: against that, right, Yeah, he remember him being like he
- 38:18Speaker 1: just thinks, oh, is this too many reviews?
- 38:21Speaker 7: Enough stoppage already?
- 38:22Speaker 2: This doesn't increase that. It's still the same amount of reviews.
- 38:26Speaker 7: For each team, and there's already so much stoppage of
- 38:29Speaker 7: play with TV timeouts and everything they stopped the game for.
- 38:33Speaker 7: So I don't know, I don't think it would make
- 38:34Speaker 7: that much of a differ.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Jarring though, if you know, big call is made, you
- 38:37Speaker 1: go to a commercial, then you come back and they're
- 38:39Speaker 1: like and while you're a break, the call is but
- 38:41Speaker 1: overturned and that didn't happen anymore, you know, like those
- 38:43Speaker 1: like that's how you'd like it to work. We're not like, oh,
- 38:45Speaker 1: we got to take a whole time out to see this,
- 38:47Speaker 1: Like it just kind of happens on the fly, right,
- 38:49Speaker 1: like someone's reviewing it as it's happening. That kind of
- 38:52Speaker 1: thing rather than official timeout that.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Well, it can be both, you know, like you know,
- 38:56Speaker 2: you can have assistance from New York or wherever. But
- 38:59Speaker 2: I think the sideline should be able to you know,
- 39:02Speaker 2: call a review for any play.
- 39:04Speaker 1: That Nikhil Harry won against the Sheiefs, remember that where
- 39:07Speaker 1: he stepped out of bounds and they called him out
- 39:08Speaker 1: of bounds and he didn't step out of bounds. I
- 39:10Speaker 1: think his whole career could have been different.
- 39:12Speaker 2: I doubt that, but that's a good example. There was
- 39:16Speaker 2: clear evidence that you know, he had scored. Yeah, so
- 39:23Speaker 2: I don't know. I believe like if you've got the technology,
- 39:26Speaker 2: use it too and have smart people using the technology,
- 39:31Speaker 2: don't have dummies using the technology.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Well, like I said, I've been watching Wimbledon and now
- 39:34Speaker 1: they have you know, I think it's funny how like
- 39:36Speaker 1: there'll be a close call and then and then like
- 39:38Speaker 1: as the person's walking back to set up to serve,
- 39:40Speaker 1: it's like a giant screen right in front of him
- 39:42Speaker 1: with like the ball just out. You know, it's kind
- 39:44Speaker 1: of like rubbing it in, making you feel worse about it.
- 39:46Speaker 2: But yeah, the one thing I wonder about, you know,
- 39:49Speaker 2: that technology is is there a possibility that the calibration
- 39:53Speaker 2: could be.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I know, I think about it all the time.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Is it really like that's that exactly?
- 39:59Speaker 2: Because what you you know, when they represent it graphically,
- 40:02Speaker 2: it's not an actual video, it's it's a representation of
- 40:05Speaker 2: what the call was. So of course that's always going
- 40:08Speaker 2: to be in line with the initial call. So I
- 40:12Speaker 2: just wonder about the calibration. But I think, like I've
- 40:15Speaker 2: said before, in baseball, balls and strikes should be automated.
- 40:18Speaker 2: There's no reason not to. The technology is there. I
- 40:21Speaker 2: know they're going to institute this challenge thing, which I
- 40:23Speaker 2: think is ridiculous. Have every ball and strike be automated.
- 40:27Speaker 2: And that doesn't mean someone loses their job. You still
- 40:30Speaker 2: need the umph infractions for box for calls that to play,
- 40:34Speaker 2: for all that other stuff, you know, whether or not
- 40:36Speaker 2: he got hit by a pitch or something. But balls
- 40:39Speaker 2: and strikes should be automated. The technology is there, and
- 40:42Speaker 2: I think it'd be so much better for the game. Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 7: Both, it's such a thing that's so black and white too,
- 40:48Speaker 7: Like it's not like anything up to interpretation.
- 40:51Speaker 2: There's a strike zone, right, well, every player has a
- 40:53Speaker 2: different strike zone and you get measured before the season
- 40:57Speaker 2: and when Alex comes up to the play, her strike
- 41:01Speaker 2: zone is punched in and there we go.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, just no more yelling at umps and yeah.
- 41:10Speaker 2: And I think like a lot of people said, oh,
- 41:12Speaker 2: hitting's gonna go down, well no, I think players are
- 41:15Speaker 2: now going to have to swing more, They're gonna have
- 41:17Speaker 2: to protect the plate more, They're gonna have to be
- 41:19Speaker 2: more aggressive. I think that's good. I think that's a
- 41:22Speaker 2: good thing. Anyway, we're crossing sports here. Michelle, who loves
- 41:27Speaker 2: it when I call her Salata, is writing in She
- 41:31Speaker 2: says she has zero expectations on wins. I'm much more
- 41:35Speaker 2: interested in how it looks. Are they playing better? Is
- 41:37Speaker 2: may taking steps forward? How's the coaching? Can they grasp
- 41:41Speaker 2: McDaniel's offense? However, I feel optimistic about Vrabel feels like
- 41:46Speaker 2: he's coaching with a purpose and a plan, and I
- 41:48Speaker 2: haven't felt that since Brady left, because honestly, Bills last
- 41:52Speaker 2: years weren't all that and a bag of chips either.
- 41:55Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a very reasonable logical balance take.
- 41:59Speaker 5: You know.
- 41:59Speaker 1: That's and that gets I think to the heart of
- 42:01Speaker 1: why I'm kind of excited, because you know, twenty twenty
- 42:05Speaker 1: was COVID and yes, Bill was here, but even he said,
- 42:08Speaker 1: we're kind of resetting this year. Twenty one, there was
- 42:10Speaker 1: a little juice the free agency class drafting Mac Jones,
- 42:13Speaker 1: even though it didn't work out. At the time, it
- 42:15Speaker 1: felt like, hey, we're taking a swing on a first
- 42:17Speaker 1: round quarterback, and this is what you have to do
- 42:19Speaker 1: if you want to get out the out of the basement.
- 42:22Speaker 1: But I get what Shilata is saying about, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: I mean, I think there were just always questions now
- 42:29Speaker 1: other than twenty one where it felt like maybe they're
- 42:31Speaker 1: back if Mac hits, and even going into twenty two
- 42:33Speaker 1: you felt a little bit like maybe they did have
- 42:37Speaker 1: had the ammunition to get back to that point. But
- 42:39Speaker 1: this this year feels unique to me.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Just as far as I was talking to somebody, oh,
- 42:45Speaker 2: I won't mention on the inside, and they they are very,
- 42:50Speaker 2: very excited about this season. Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Part of it too is just that I really feel
- 42:56Speaker 1: this is going to be a tough team, Like it's
- 42:58Speaker 1: just it's going to be a team that plays really
- 43:00Speaker 1: hard and it's just going to be fun to roof for,
- 43:02Speaker 1: especially on the defensive side of the ball, where you
- 43:05Speaker 1: know you've got players who can really get after quarterbacks
- 43:08Speaker 1: and really make guys uncomfortable, and you know, those things.
- 43:11Speaker 1: To me, I mean that's the different. I mean, twenty
- 43:13Speaker 1: nineteen was one of the greatest Patriots defenses of all time.
- 43:16Speaker 1: So I've seen good defense around here in my in
- 43:18Speaker 1: my turn, but I think this defense is going to
- 43:19Speaker 1: be a little bit different and exciting to watch, you know, fun,
- 43:22Speaker 1: fun to watch them play the intense. You just watch
- 43:25Speaker 1: Robert Spilling run onto the field for practice and you're like, oh, boy,
- 43:27Speaker 1: like this guy, he's ready to go. And that was
- 43:30Speaker 1: like OTA's I can only imagine what it's going to
- 43:31Speaker 1: be like, you know, joint practices, which just writing the previews,
- 43:36Speaker 1: I'm like, man, you have to see Gonzales versus Justin
- 43:38Speaker 1: Jefferson in practice, like you know, Terry McLaurin and Gonzalez
- 43:42Speaker 1: in practice. Let's go like one on one reps. Maybe
- 43:44Speaker 1: like the best wide receiver in the league maybe versus
- 43:47Speaker 1: one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Those those
- 43:49Speaker 1: kinds of things are going to be really excited to watch.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Yep, Justin writes in and he's talking about people that
- 43:57Speaker 2: we have in guests in studio, guests as well. He says,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I want to call out Jared or whatever his name
- 44:03Speaker 2: was from Thursday's show who called about Pop and making
- 44:06Speaker 2: a clown of himself. Hey, Bud, the guys aren't going
- 44:09Speaker 2: to sit and talk trash to Pop's face when they're
- 44:11Speaker 2: having him on for a fun player interview. Also, none
- 44:14Speaker 2: of the guys have ever said Pop will not make
- 44:16Speaker 2: the roster or shouldn't be on the roster. In the end,
- 44:19Speaker 2: instead of hanging up your call like a baby back bitch,
- 44:22Speaker 2: maybe you should listen to the PU crew and hear
- 44:25Speaker 2: them out instead of being so stubborn and realize that
- 44:27Speaker 2: Greg Bdard isn't on this podcast. Have a great day.
- 44:31Speaker 10: So there you go.
- 44:32Speaker 1: So two shots at that call. Yeah, yeah, I called it.
- 44:36Speaker 1: Bother me a little bit just because I really like
- 44:38Speaker 1: Pop Douglas. I mean, I don't think you're wrong to question,
- 44:41Speaker 1: you know, if he's got the size to hold up
- 44:43Speaker 1: a high volume on the slot, but you know, the
- 44:45Speaker 1: speculation that he might not be on the team, Like
- 44:47Speaker 1: that's the farthest thing from my mind, especially after watching
- 44:51Speaker 1: him in OTAs. And I mean I think there was
- 44:53Speaker 1: a little question of is he, you know, the kind
- 44:55Speaker 1: of guy that Josh loves and wants to feed the ball,
- 44:58Speaker 1: but it looked like it no tas And we've just been,
- 45:01Speaker 1: like I said on this show on Thursday, we've been
- 45:02Speaker 1: so desperate for wide receivers. This is like the one
- 45:04Speaker 1: guy that they've drafted, that they hid on, that's contributed,
- 45:07Speaker 1: that had a good year last year, who's a great
- 45:08Speaker 1: personality in the locker room, and somehow we want him gone.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't get I don't get that jump.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I mean, I'm excited to have that guy on the
- 45:16Speaker 1: team and he's gonna have a.
- 45:17Speaker 2: Good I think he's a weapon with the ball in
- 45:19Speaker 2: his hand. I really do. I think, you know, especially
- 45:22Speaker 2: up to last year, he was the one guy where
- 45:27Speaker 2: you would you could say he's dynamics.
- 45:29Speaker 1: A hard cover. He's a hard man, demand cover and
- 45:32Speaker 1: that's such a big point. People call in and none
- 45:34Speaker 1: of our guys can get off coverage. You know, he's
- 45:36Speaker 1: one guy that can get off coverage. They might have
- 45:38Speaker 1: to protect him and scheme him a little bit, but
- 45:40Speaker 1: you know, no player is perfect.
- 45:42Speaker 7: I think Anthony said too. He was kind of just
- 45:44Speaker 7: kidding like.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Oh no, no, Anthony was okay. Anthony was making fun
- 45:51Speaker 2: of that got.
- 45:51Speaker 1: It, And honestly, it kind of felt like somebody who
- 45:54Speaker 1: knew Pop tugs maybe a little bit, was standing up
- 45:55Speaker 1: for their guy a little bit. Maybe, I don't know.
- 45:57Speaker 1: That's just to me, it was like it seemed a
- 45:58Speaker 1: little bit out of left field, right field.
- 46:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I feel like we've been unanimously positive about Pop.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I know I've said on the show like it was
- 46:06Speaker 2: more so, hey, if you're gonna say that here, why
- 46:08Speaker 2: don't you say it when he's on the show and
- 46:10Speaker 2: say it to his face and like say.
- 46:12Speaker 7: What yeah, and our pr staff that's sitting outside the
- 46:15Speaker 7: window would just love to see that. I'm sure.
- 46:18Speaker 2: But but yeah, even if, like even if somebody here
- 46:21Speaker 2: did think like Pop was on the bubble, you're not
- 46:23Speaker 2: gonna get him on the show and say now, now, Pop,
- 46:25Speaker 2: you're probably on the bubble. You know, that's not why
- 46:28Speaker 2: he's here.
- 46:29Speaker 7: He's also just like such a little puppy of a guy,
- 46:31Speaker 7: Like he's so impossible to hate. He's so unintentionally funny
- 46:35Speaker 7: and just I don't know, and he can play and
- 46:37Speaker 7: you see raybel light up when he talks about him.
- 46:40Speaker 1: You know, no, he does.
- 46:41Speaker 2: He's great.
- 46:42Speaker 1: But he can play. He's not a number one like everything,
- 46:44Speaker 1: hold on. But he's a very good player and a
- 46:46Speaker 1: player that I think in a role they're gonna need
- 46:48Speaker 1: this year. I don't know how much how many catches
- 46:51Speaker 1: he's gonna have, but you watch the guy play.
- 46:53Speaker 2: He's The thing is like, if you call a player
- 46:57Speaker 2: a number three or a number four receiver, depending on
- 47:00Speaker 2: the team, it can be a compliment or not a
- 47:03Speaker 2: good thing. If you've got bad offense and you know
- 47:07Speaker 2: your your number one receiver should be a number three receiver,
- 47:10Speaker 2: well then your number four receiver probably isn't that good. Yeah,
- 47:13Speaker 2: you know, But if you're on a good team, a
- 47:15Speaker 2: high productive offense, your fourth receiver receiver is probably pretty
- 47:20Speaker 2: productive totally.
- 47:21Speaker 1: You know.
- 47:21Speaker 2: So context means everything.
- 47:24Speaker 7: And to Mike's point, just how many receivers in the
- 47:26Speaker 7: last ten to fifteen years have we drafted, developed and
- 47:29Speaker 7: have been productive for us?
- 47:31Speaker 2: Right?
- 47:31Speaker 1: He stands alone. I mean he talks to some undrafted guys.
- 47:34Speaker 1: But that's where I think Josh comes in, you know,
- 47:36Speaker 1: I think that's what's exciting. We give Drake May and
- 47:39Speaker 1: some of these guys a little bit of a pass
- 47:41Speaker 1: last year because of the situation on offense. We had
- 47:43Speaker 1: a lot of new coaches doing it for the first time,
- 47:45Speaker 1: so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that you
- 47:48Speaker 1: might see a jump from a lot of these guys
- 47:50Speaker 1: this year. I mean, you're certainly hoping for it with
- 47:52Speaker 1: Drake May that he's going to take to Josh McDaniel's
- 47:55Speaker 1: system and you know, really be able to run that
- 47:57Speaker 1: the way it needs to be run. And I I
- 48:00Speaker 1: think Pop Dog was gonna be a big part of
- 48:01Speaker 1: this year.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Todd and Garner says sorry to Paul since I missed
- 48:06Speaker 2: the Thursday, June twenty sixth show where he and Evan
- 48:09Speaker 2: had already answered my question. That was the day my
- 48:12Speaker 2: dad passed. Sorry about that, and sorry to Cursh. I
- 48:16Speaker 2: had to drop my call on Thursday because my brother
- 48:19Speaker 2: wrote the obituary using chat GPT and I had to
- 48:22Speaker 2: rework the entire damn thing. Wow, that's yeah, there's.
- 48:28Speaker 7: A lot of things that you can outsource to chat GPT,
- 48:31Speaker 7: like I don't know.
- 48:32Speaker 2: About a bit.
- 48:34Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 48:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it's one of my new books, an AI book
- 48:37Speaker 1: just about the future of AI and how to use it.
- 48:39Speaker 1: And yeah, a lot of mistakes. You gotta be very
- 48:42Speaker 1: careful if you're gonna lean on that thing.
- 48:43Speaker 7: But we saw it on this show. Remember Paul was
- 48:46Speaker 7: fact checking in about like I think we were looking
- 48:49Speaker 7: up draft classes and chat GPT said this is the
- 48:51Speaker 7: best draft class and then it listed all the players in.
- 48:53Speaker 7: One of those players we didn't even drop, So I.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Had to school them on this podcast. Remember that whole exchange. AnyWho,
- 49:00Speaker 2: With respect to the main thing that you that has
- 49:03Speaker 2: you looking forward to the next season, what has me
- 49:06Speaker 2: seeing may is McDaniel's offense. This is the litmus test
- 49:10Speaker 2: for me to see just how high the ceiling will
- 49:13Speaker 2: be for Drake. Can he utilize the instruction and opportunities
- 49:16Speaker 2: that Josh will give him? If yes, I see the
- 49:19Speaker 2: playoffs this year?
- 49:21Speaker 1: Yeah, oh, I mean it's it's I think Josh's offense
- 49:25Speaker 1: is going to give Drake a chance to reach his potential,
- 49:28Speaker 1: whatever that might be. There's gonna be more on him
- 49:30Speaker 1: this year. Evin talks about making calls at the line,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I mean mentally, He's there's going to be a greater
- 49:36Speaker 1: load on him mentally, And that's why my big thing
- 49:39Speaker 1: is can he execute at the end of games when
- 49:41Speaker 1: the game is on the line, So, you know, is
- 49:44Speaker 1: that mental load he's got to deal with over the
- 49:46Speaker 1: course of the game. Is that going to wear him out?
- 49:48Speaker 1: Is he going to be sharp at the end? You know,
- 49:50Speaker 1: these are the questions I think that are really going
- 49:52Speaker 1: to come to the forefront this year with Drake May
- 49:55Speaker 1: if he's going to be the guy and not just
- 49:57Speaker 1: you know, one of these guys who got winsy games
- 49:59Speaker 1: and maybe you flirt with the playoffs, but really is
- 50:02Speaker 1: a tough out for any team that he.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Plays Travis and West Virginia other than the ability we
- 50:08Speaker 2: were talking about kickers earlier, Other than the ability to
- 50:12Speaker 2: make an occasional tackle, is it really necessary for our
- 50:14Speaker 2: kicker to be a football player and a raw, raw guy.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Much like the incessant talker Kendrick Bourne's spunky personality, Alex
- 50:22Speaker 2: seems to get caught up in these meaningless things.
- 50:25Speaker 7: I think your mentality, in a position like that where
- 50:28Speaker 7: it's so much of it is mental, is very important.
- 50:32Speaker 1: It's exactly what Jeremy Springer said this spring when we
- 50:34Speaker 1: asked him about finding the new kicker, and He's like,
- 50:36Speaker 1: I don't just want a kicker, I want a football guy.
- 50:38Speaker 1: I want a guy who fits in with the locker room.
- 50:41Speaker 1: You know, I don't think anybody wants to look over
- 50:42Speaker 1: at their kicker and see a nerd, you know, just
- 50:46Speaker 1: just to see like, oh god, here we go the nerds, you.
- 50:48Speaker 2: Know, Like you want a guy unless he can kick
- 50:50Speaker 2: seventy yard fields.
- 50:52Speaker 7: It's such a mental position, like it's it's like what
- 50:55Speaker 7: they say about golf, like the game's played between your
- 50:58Speaker 7: two ears. I think to an extent, kickings kind of
- 51:01Speaker 7: like that too.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I mean, I think there's a lot of carryover though
- 51:05Speaker 1: for as much as it might seem like kind of meaningless,
- 51:08Speaker 1: that always a football guy, like I do think a
- 51:10Speaker 1: guy like ada Vini Terry is a football guy, and
- 51:13Speaker 1: the other players respect that, and there's a confidence around
- 51:16Speaker 1: your special teams that goes with that kind of player.
- 51:19Speaker 1: You can't always manufacture what a player's personality is going
- 51:22Speaker 1: to be, but if you have to pick, you want
- 51:24Speaker 1: a guy who can tackle herschel Walker and then walk
- 51:27Speaker 1: off the field and be like, or kicker, just tackle
- 51:29Speaker 1: herschel Walker. That means a lot to these guys who
- 51:32Speaker 1: obviously have much more physical challenge.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Well, and I think being one of the guys helps
- 51:36Speaker 2: you when you do miss that kick right exactly.
- 51:39Speaker 7: If your guys actually if your teammates actually like you. Like,
- 51:42Speaker 7: that's some things his coaches told me. He's just as
- 51:44Speaker 7: likely to be best friends with the starting linebacker as
- 51:46Speaker 7: he is the long snapper. And like you said, you
- 51:50Speaker 7: can get isolated really quickly. It's a very lonely position
- 51:53Speaker 7: at kicker. So much is contingent on how you perform.
- 51:57Speaker 7: So if your guys actually like you and they're behind
- 51:59Speaker 7: you and they believe in you, that just only takes
- 52:02Speaker 7: your confidence even higher. But I know it's meaningless.
- 52:06Speaker 1: No, it's lonely for everybody except the kicker, the punch
- 52:09Speaker 1: and the long snappers, the little trio and they walk
- 52:11Speaker 1: out with their bag.
- 52:11Speaker 2: And Travis would also like to point out Fred that
- 52:15Speaker 2: you began taking listener input today at twelve twenty eight.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Mike and Paul are under the false impression that the
- 52:21Speaker 2: first hour of the show is meant to be recital
- 52:23Speaker 2: of their own opinions, and the listeners aren't invited for the.
- 52:27Speaker 7: First hour.
- 52:29Speaker 1: To do thirty But we have so much to talk about.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I think it all depends on what the
- 52:34Speaker 2: topics of the day are. Sometimes we don't take input
- 52:37Speaker 2: until like an hour in.
- 52:38Speaker 1: You know, it just depends on what's going to days?
- 52:40Speaker 1: When I mean it's going, but I when I when
- 52:42Speaker 1: I have the honors to sitting in the host chair,
- 52:44Speaker 1: it's I feel the general rule of thumbus try to
- 52:46Speaker 1: get at least a half hour, set the table in
- 52:49Speaker 1: maybe forty five minutes, and then and then you then
- 52:51Speaker 1: you go to the calls and emails. Thank you, Travis,
- 52:53Speaker 1: I appreciate you calling that out. That's a that's well played.
- 52:57Speaker 2: Kyle writes in from Pembroke. With training camp coming, what
- 53:00Speaker 2: position battles are you most looking forward to? What wide
- 53:05Speaker 2: receiver versus cornerback battle? What O line versus D line battle?
- 53:10Speaker 2: I guess you're talking about individual.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Matchups, sure, you know, like Chase on Versuill Cambell. I mean,
- 53:16Speaker 1: we'll Campbell going against some of the veteran EDG dressers.
- 53:18Speaker 1: See how how that kind of holds out.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Because they do. You know, when they break off into
- 53:23Speaker 2: like the different positional units. We call it the mono
- 53:26Speaker 2: wamano drill. When you really have live offense versus defense
- 53:31Speaker 2: and they go one on one and they just rotate
- 53:34Speaker 2: and you really do get a good sense of who's
- 53:37Speaker 2: doing well in that one. It's they're they're going full speed.
- 53:41Speaker 2: It's not like, you know, oh keep them up, you know,
- 53:45Speaker 2: no tackling. These linemen are going at it in those drills.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Those are the good ones to watch. I think the
- 53:51Speaker 1: wide receiver verse, cornerback and tight end and running back
- 53:54Speaker 1: versus linebacker. Those it's really hard on the defenders. So
- 53:57Speaker 1: as much as I'd love to say, oh, Stefan Diggs
- 53:59Speaker 1: vers Christian Gonzalez, which yeah, definitely like like to see,
- 54:02Speaker 1: but Christian Gazalez is Stefan Digs has the whole field
- 54:05Speaker 1: to work with and Christian Gonzalez is trying to do
- 54:07Speaker 1: his thing. So I put it more on some of
- 54:10Speaker 1: the joint practices like I mentioned with Justin Jefferson and
- 54:15Speaker 1: that receiving core Terner McLaurin in the Washington Receiving Corps,
- 54:18Speaker 1: because I think, yes, it's still hard for the defenders
- 54:21Speaker 1: in those, but it's competitive and the players want to win.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Talked a lot about when I was in Vegas and
- 54:27Speaker 1: DeVante Adams just putting on an absolute clinic in those.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Even though it's hard on the defensive backs, you could
- 54:33Speaker 1: still just tell that DeVante Adams was a class apart.
- 54:37Speaker 1: So it'd be cool to see Stefan Diggs if he's
- 54:38Speaker 1: starting to get healthy, starting to toast some guys and
- 54:42Speaker 1: quick stops and just totally dust them. But all that
- 54:46Speaker 1: one on one stuff you gotta read with a grand salt.
- 54:48Speaker 2: Now you do. But you know, like you said, when
- 54:51Speaker 2: you get a guy like DeVante Adams, you can tell,
- 54:54Speaker 2: ye can tell, Yeah, well it was just and diversely.
- 54:58Speaker 1: If throttling up and down his speed.
- 55:00Speaker 2: You know, if Carlton Davis has a good day and
- 55:03Speaker 2: it's against Justin Jefferson and great, great, that does tell
- 55:08Speaker 2: you something because in those joint practices, the guys are
- 55:11Speaker 2: out to impress, Like there's kind of like a pride
- 55:13Speaker 2: thing and ego thing going on. So and that's why
- 55:16Speaker 2: there's a lot of skirmishes during joint practices as well,
- 55:19Speaker 2: Like guys are kind of going a little harder than
- 55:22Speaker 2: they're supposed to because you won't. You don't want to
- 55:25Speaker 2: get shown up. You don't want to be the guy
- 55:27Speaker 2: that gets burned.
- 55:28Speaker 1: There's good intensity in those. Maybe we talked about all
- 55:30Speaker 1: the fights in Green Bay a couple of years ago.
- 55:32Speaker 1: They couldn't even get a playoff on day two. But
- 55:35Speaker 1: I think Christian Gonzalez is such a fun watch in
- 55:37Speaker 1: these practices, just because it's all about his athleticism. You know,
- 55:40Speaker 1: he's just so quick, and it's just even if he's
- 55:43Speaker 1: giving up the catch, you just see how smooth he
- 55:46Speaker 1: is transitioning. And you know, a guy like Carlton Davis,
- 55:49Speaker 1: physicality is going to be a huge part of his game,
- 55:51Speaker 1: and so he's going to try to get his hands
- 55:53Speaker 1: on guys from the get go, and you know then
- 55:55Speaker 1: if he gets beat off the line, he probably in
- 55:57Speaker 1: real football has safety help. So so it's it's that
- 56:00Speaker 1: stuff that you have to consider. But Gonzalez, you could
- 56:02Speaker 1: just watch him like warm up and you're like, that
- 56:03Speaker 1: got smooth.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Dylan writes in do you believe Jalen Polk and Javon
- 56:10Speaker 2: Baker are on the outside looking in when it comes
- 56:13Speaker 2: to making the fifty three man roster? No, I don't
- 56:16Speaker 2: I think that. I think it's wide open. I don't
- 56:19Speaker 2: think there's like a set five or six wide receivers
- 56:23Speaker 2: that are like they've got the upper hand. I don't
- 56:26Speaker 2: I think they have it, you know, other than Diggs obviously,
- 56:33Speaker 2: you know I think that uh Digs and probably what's
- 56:39Speaker 2: Kyle's Kyle Williams. I think he's a lot being a
- 56:43Speaker 2: second round pick this year. I think everybody is on
- 56:46Speaker 2: even footing. I think I don't think there's anyone on
- 56:49Speaker 2: the outside looking in, and I don't think there's anyone
- 56:51Speaker 2: that has an inside track other than those two.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd say I'm probably gonna be on Mount Polk
- 56:56Speaker 1: this summer. I'm gonna get get up there and I'm
- 56:58Speaker 1: gonna be the Jalen Polk defender. Know Evid and Paul
- 57:01Speaker 1: aren't very high on him. We've had some of those conversations,
- 57:04Speaker 1: but I'm going to say that this coaching staff gets
- 57:07Speaker 1: him back on track and he looks more like the
- 57:10Speaker 1: player we saw all last summer in camp. He's still
- 57:13Speaker 1: flirting with some of these top groups. When we saw OTAs,
- 57:16Speaker 1: he's still working back from injury, so he wasn't highly involved,
- 57:20Speaker 1: but he was still flirting with those groups, whereas Javon
- 57:23Speaker 1: Baker feels like he's still kind of battling it out
- 57:25Speaker 1: on the lower level. So I think Javon Baker really
- 57:27Speaker 1: needs to start to pop and starts to string things together.
- 57:30Speaker 1: He's a little bit on the outside looking at I'd
- 57:32Speaker 1: say for me, at least at this point, But I
- 57:34Speaker 1: really like Jalen Polk, and I just I'm gonna be
- 57:37Speaker 1: one of his believers this year and there probably won't
- 57:39Speaker 1: be a lot, but put me in his camp.
- 57:41Speaker 7: Okay, Polk was down to training with the whole group
- 57:45Speaker 7: and what seems like North Carolina.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I just think it's not a mistake that he comes
- 57:49Speaker 1: out of college and comes into camp and looks like
- 57:52Speaker 1: he knows what he's doing and is productive and is
- 57:54Speaker 1: catching the ball, and then things start to go sideways
- 57:58Speaker 1: for a rookie, and I think that this happens, I
- 58:00Speaker 1: don't know, you have the most experienced head coaching staff
- 58:03Speaker 1: last year to break him out of that funk and
- 58:05Speaker 1: to really know when this starts happening to a player,
- 58:08Speaker 1: how do I fix it right? You know, jirob Meyo,
- 58:10Speaker 1: alexand Pelt new guys that hadn't really gone through that.
- 58:13Speaker 1: But I just I have hope that as you get
- 58:16Speaker 1: him back to the confidence that he clearly had in
- 58:18Speaker 1: college and brought with him into training camp. When again
- 58:23Speaker 1: they wrap mini camp last year, the last play of
- 58:25Speaker 1: mini camp was was Drake hitting Jalen Polk for a
- 58:29Speaker 1: touchdown celebration. You know, got to have it. Plays hits
- 58:33Speaker 1: him for a touchdown and that was the end of
- 58:34Speaker 1: spring practices last year. In twenty twenty four, there's something
- 58:37Speaker 1: there to me. And again I respect Paul and Evan
- 58:40Speaker 1: that they don't really see it, and they don't know
- 58:42Speaker 1: if he's got the speed to compete. But I think
- 58:44Speaker 1: he's got the size, the toughness in the hands that
- 58:47Speaker 1: get him back on track, get him confident again that
- 58:50Speaker 1: he can contribute to this group. And because he's a
- 58:52Speaker 1: unique player, I think within this big position group, he
- 58:56Speaker 1: has unique size and I think he could really be
- 58:58Speaker 1: a physical change specific set of sills where it's a
- 59:02Speaker 1: little bit like Pop Douglas, where it's a guy that
- 59:05Speaker 1: I'm gonna look to in key moments to make big plays.
- 59:08Speaker 1: And I know that's asking a lot for a player
- 59:09Speaker 1: who really had a disappointing rookie year, but mount Polk here,
- 59:12Speaker 1: I am.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Okay, all right, there you go. Just make sure you
- 59:17Speaker 2: say that when he's in the studio.
- 59:18Speaker 1: Well, not these two guys, though they don't like you
- 59:21Speaker 1: at all.
- 59:21Speaker 2: Nick in New York City, I do agree with Alex
- 59:25Speaker 2: regarding kickers, but I think the kicker being a good
- 59:27Speaker 2: teammate is a bonus. I would compare kicking to surgeons.
- 59:31Speaker 2: I want the person that cuts me up and puts
- 59:33Speaker 2: me back together while I'm asleep to operate flawlessly every time.
- 59:37Speaker 2: If they're nice and treat me like a human when
- 59:40Speaker 2: I'm recovering, that's a bonus, super welcome to have the
- 59:43Speaker 2: nice person. But in the end, not the reason I
- 59:45Speaker 2: choose the surgeon, Okay.
- 59:48Speaker 7: And it's not like I said that was the only
- 59:50Speaker 7: thing that's important to him being successful and the biggest predictor.
- 59:53Speaker 7: It was just kind of giving context to his character,
- 59:57Speaker 7: you know. And again we're talking about a kicker who
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: was almost entirely perfect throughout his entire college career. We
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: already know that he's super accurate and super precise. Like
- 1:00:08Speaker 7: the rest is just bonus in context.

- 1:04:29Speaker 5: wasn't the champion. It was like this quarterfinal game and
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: I had a pulled growing. We're playing a team out
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: of laugh Yette. We were losing at halftime, and I
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: just couldn't just sit there.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: What's that said? Looking at New England Will Campbell?
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: That sweet?
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Uh huh, that's nice.
- 1:04:51Speaker 13: Yeah, that's cool.
- 1:04:54Speaker 10: And uh.
- 1:04:57Speaker 13: Uh.
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: The other team didn't even have a locker and I
- 1:05:00Speaker 5: didn't even have all my stuff. I just had my pads, pants, cleats.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: I think I wore ankle socks with like high top
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: cleats and I got butt naked under the stadium because
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: they didn't have a locker room. I went out there
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: and played. We ended up winning.
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: Uh.
- 1:05:22Speaker 13: It was cool just to be able to do that
- 1:05:25Speaker 13: for my guys.
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: I I was willing to risk an injury for them
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: just because we had been through so much and I
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: grew up with all of them, so it been the
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: loup for me.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: But let mess it it.
- 1:05:42Speaker 13: Bro stop.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Him.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I cut my bangs, cut his own hair.
- 1:05:52Speaker 13: Why did you do that? Just for fun?
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: Boy?
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: I think we had like family pictures the next day too.
- 1:06:03Speaker 13: It was a start while already.
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: I guess since the last time I did this, I
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: was like coming in. It's like an interview.
- 1:06:15Speaker 13: Over with now. So appreciate you, absolutely, I appreciate it.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: Thank you. What's going on?
- 1:06:33Speaker 10: What up?
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: What's going on?
- 1:06:39Speaker 13: Yeah?
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: I did going on.
- 1:06:41Speaker 13: I appreciate you.
- 1:06:42Speaker 15: From the start. He was a heralded player from his
- 1:06:44Speaker 15: freshman year on and just just a guy we kept
- 1:06:46Speaker 15: an eye on for a number of years. The more
- 1:06:48Speaker 15: work you do in his character, the past, protection of
- 1:06:51Speaker 15: the run, blocking the guy, the leadership, all that kind
- 1:06:54Speaker 15: of stuff just you know, made him the right pick
- 1:06:57Speaker 15: for us at that time.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: You had no chance until lunch, and then lunch still
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: to deal car.
- 1:07:04Speaker 13: That's I appreciate it.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: But this was a very very easy pick for us.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: And he's a leader.
- 1:07:10Speaker 14: He's durable, he's physical, dependable, you know, accountable, he was
- 1:07:15Speaker 14: quick studying.
- 1:07:16Speaker 13: Yeah, he'd you get for our beats balancing.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: This team is important.
- 1:07:22Speaker 14: This team will be important to him, and so that
- 1:07:24Speaker 14: was a large factor in how we came to be
- 1:07:27Speaker 14: able to pick Kevin.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: So you look like a professor at Boston College.
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: Whenever I got the call, honestly, I was sitting there
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: and see I was waiting on it. I kind of
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: had a feel and it was coming and I was
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: just super thankful. So nice to meet you too. My
- 1:07:51Speaker 5: message him is I just wanted to be here. That's
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: where I wanted to be, and I just try to
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: put myself in the best position possible to make that up.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: The way they practiced, a lot of effort to finish.
- 1:08:08Speaker 14: Great teams go out to practice at different piece. That's
- 1:08:10Speaker 14: just what we're gonna do because that's the only way
- 1:08:11Speaker 14: that our identity.
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: Can take off.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: This is professional football. This is your job. You're not
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: on scholarship, you don't get a red ser year.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: The better be a right.
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: You're not tough.
- 1:08:25Speaker 7: We have our complain this way.
- 1:08:27Speaker 13: You mean you can't continue statement?
- 1:08:28Speaker 14: You got like two steps, decided to get out good.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: That kind of frills big.
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: Then God go work like the tip go rep get off.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Got it?
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: We can remember it, but we can also work together.
- 1:08:42Speaker 13: All right, big weekend, my son turns twenty one. We're
- 1:08:48Speaker 13: in this business to win and to help players improve.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: But think that they embraced the change.
- 1:08:55Speaker 13: I would have fit with two hunts.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I feel like I'm blessed to do this, so I
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: wake up with that that.
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: Grind if you shot them something you.
- 1:09:02Speaker 7: Think about.
- 1:09:08Speaker 13: And now great moments in.
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: History.
- 1:09:13Speaker 16: Well it used to be a gold long time ago,
- 1:09:15Speaker 16: the golden goal. Yeah, but then they decided, like the NFL,
- 1:09:18Speaker 16: to make it fair. Let both teams have possession. The
- 1:09:21Speaker 16: equivalent thereof no.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: No, no, I mean everybody has the same chance to
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: get the ball right.
- 1:09:26Speaker 16: No, no, you didn't let me finish, I said, the
- 1:09:28Speaker 16: equivalent of letting both teams have possession in the in
- 1:09:32Speaker 16: the soccer.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: World does not.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I don't think that's the equivalent. Okay, it isn't.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I'm glad Fred agrees with me, because that's the non
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: soccer eyes it doesn't make any.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Sense to me.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: It is a golden goal.
- 1:09:42Speaker 16: Was the equivalent of the old days in the NFL,
- 1:09:44Speaker 16: where the first team that scored one.
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: But football is a different sport.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: It's a football, only one team had the ball, only
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: one team could score.
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: It's not a soccer.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Both teams have the same chance to have the ball.
- 1:09:54Speaker 16: You can possess the ball, yes, but they wanted to
- 1:09:57Speaker 16: just let there be a you know, a set amount
- 1:10:00Speaker 16: of time for them.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: To play the X.
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: Well, I don't do that in the NFL.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: That's fine.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: They don't play a set amount of time.
- 1:10:05Speaker 16: No, but they do have a ten minute you know.
- 1:10:07Speaker 16: If you don't after ten minutes, they call it a tie, right,
- 1:10:10Speaker 16: but it does in this case, you couldn't have a
- 1:10:11Speaker 16: tie because it's a playoff.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: It's not the same area. I know what you're trying
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: to say. But in soccer, no matter what had been
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: the equivalent, and it was the same.
- 1:10:21Speaker 16: I want to already arguing now I want to look
- 1:10:23Speaker 16: up the same and equivalent.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: But anyway, anyway, what if I walked into revolution unfiltered?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: All right? Whoa back here in Patriots unfiltered? A five
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: to five. Pats five hundred is the hotline. Podcasts at
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Patriots dot com is the email address. Linda writes in
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: She says NBC Sports Boston is reporting the off season
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: session took place in Tampa. Other social outlets say it
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: took place outside Charlotte, North Carolina at Hoe High School.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: Doesn't matter to me. What it does matter is that
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: it did take place. Looking forward to camp to see
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: the guys live, Yeah, it's good.
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: Got like tight end camps, we got pass rusher camps.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: There's like it's the thing to do now in the
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: off season, all these guys get together with their position
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: groups and trade What trade talk is that? What is
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: trade secrets?
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Christian from Virginia, right, Sin, You've talked a lot
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: about intro songs to hype up the crowd, But what
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: about movie clips? If you had to pick a clip
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: to be regularly shown at games, what would you choose
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: a movie clip?
- 1:11:35Speaker 13: Oh?
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: God, and it can't be that's one. I think a
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: lot of people have used the uh Mel Gibson Brave
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Heart one where he riles up the that's good.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: I mean he could probably just play the Rocky for
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: Training montage. That would that would work. I also said
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I love Rocky too. The what are we waiting for?
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: When Adrian finally wakes up from the coma like? That
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: gets me going to But I don't know, you might
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: you might need the Rocky four. I think you know,
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: training Montage Vinceta Coola put the music on the whole deal,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: the whole deal.
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: What about Chariots of Fire when they're running on the
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: beach with the music.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: The music's good. I don't know if a bunch of
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: you know, English guys the beach just can't get anybody, yeah,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: like full of white outfits that that was a good
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: uh movie. I don't know, I don't know, I think
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: about it.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: There's probably some old World War two movies that you know,
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: we forget about that probably had some good.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Talking about the patent speech at the beginning of past
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, nobody ever did.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: Any Mel Gibson.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: You got the Patriot, the page.
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: Patriot, Yeah, the Patriots based on my Yeah, yeah, those
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: are good ones. No son of a bitch ever won
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: a war by dying for his country. They made the
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: other son of bitch die for his country, right.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good stuff.
- 1:12:59Speaker 7: Also Independence Day, great pump up speech.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Bill Pullman. Oh yeah, okay, the president, this
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: is our Independence Day. It'll be funny if you just
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: do like a super cut of all these little moments
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: of just hype speeches, you know, and then that that's the.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: One Norman Ray.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Union.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Yeah that was good. That was it good. Yeah, there's
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: probably a million that we're not thinking of. So okay,
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: so that's a topic. If someone has a I can't
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: miss pump up movie clip Rocky Force.
- 1:13:32Speaker 13: That's it.
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: Yeah, something from the Godfather.
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: Well that's what I was thinking. Like a mine include
- 1:13:38Speaker 7: like mob movies or like gang violence movies.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Right right.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I don't want to give anything.
- 1:13:43Speaker 7: But yeah, should I say it? No, the town bank
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: robbery scene or the town robbing Fenway Park scene, the shootouts?
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, what about Goodwill hunting when he gives uh, when
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Beniflex gives that damon the speech?
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. That's it's a little bit more different.
- 1:14:06Speaker 7: You're still here with me on the couch watching Patriots,
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: right right, Ford.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: And Savannah Georgia. Alex He says, congratulations on your award.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: You should have got an additional one for writing around
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Evans acting. Also, you could definitely play the love interest
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: in a sitcom. Don't listen to whatever petty email or said.
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: Otherwise it just might have to be the prequel sitcom
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: to Father Fred Young Father Fred.
- 1:14:32Speaker 7: Oh, I remember that's funny.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: It was not just my award, it was the whole team.
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: I was just sent on behalf of the content.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: So we won the hashtag award for goodwill, good jewels
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: hunting the twenty twenty four schedule release one and we
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: had the award. We actually have the award in he's
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: a hashtag at the ten o'clock meeting today.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: No, I wasn't. I was speaking to the Sharon Men's
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: Cube a little long, the Sharon's Men's Club, the Shehriffman's Club.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: It doesn't think, don't exactly move very fast when you're.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: You and Paul. Paul's got the library circuit, You've got,
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: you've got the Geriatric club circle.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Exactly what it was, Exactly what it was. I love supporting,
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: you know, my fellow Sharon men. And uh, it was nice.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: A lot of good questions, a lot of people local
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: who are invested in the team, so I think they're excited.
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: So you know, do you see a bunch of elderly
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: shared men coming to games this year. You don't know
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: why got them pumped up?
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Dudes comes in you think you're better than us.
- 1:15:32Speaker 13: Than me.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: It's very nice. They were very nice, delicious.
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: Who's this guy? It's a big shot works for the Patriots.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: Well, as I told you guys, as I told you
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: guys off there. They were just coming off a presentation
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: last week of like the history of toothbrushes, so hopefully history.
- 1:15:48Speaker 7: Who's the talent booker?
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Well I talked to the talent booker and it's very
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: It sounds like it's toughlyft trying to find talent. So
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: they found me obviously. It's you know, it's it's a grind.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Do they actually have a talent.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: It's just a guy who has to find people to
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: talk to them. So it was very nice, very nice,
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: supportive community, madge.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: We need somebody for next Tuesday.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: It's pretty much it. So that's cool. So you guys
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: had the trophy in the ten o'clock you passed down
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: everybody to kiss it. Yeah, drink out of it.
- 1:16:14Speaker 7: Theretty much pretty much, And I told the story. Fred
- 1:16:17Speaker 7: wasn't here, but we thought that that award we presented
- 1:16:22Speaker 7: much later and Ronica and I were in the bathroom
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: really here and now the naminees for Best Short Video,
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: and I was like, Ronica, we're up, we gotta go now.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: And I don't know, I didn't do that.
- 1:16:34Speaker 7: I didn't think she was gonna make it. And and
- 1:16:36Speaker 7: uh there was a woman with us from the Golden
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: State Warriors in the bathroom with us. She was like, go,
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: go go, and then she was the first person like
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: we made it and accepted the word and I gave
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: like an out of breath speech.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: With you actually went up like yeah, like it's a
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: whole ceremony. Yeah, like they start the music because you
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: were going too long.
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: No, we kept it short and sweet. We knew the deal.
- 1:16:58Speaker 7: But yeah, it was a great event, honestly. But I
- 1:17:04Speaker 7: didn't do the thank you part. I just did the
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: part that was like, hey, let this be your excuse
- 1:17:11Speaker 7: to always throw your crazy ideas out there because we
- 1:17:14Speaker 7: had a different idea. So I kind of told the
- 1:17:16Speaker 7: story about how we felt like we were leaving something
- 1:17:18Speaker 7: on the table and we pivoted last minute teams there, Yeah,
- 1:17:23Speaker 7: quite a few. Ironically, I told Douce this. We made
- 1:17:26Speaker 7: really good friends with the guys from the Falcons and
- 1:17:29Speaker 7: the Seahawks, which is pretty funny.
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: They were very nice for the worst loss or like
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: what were they for? Right, Well, the.
- 1:17:37Speaker 7: Vikings like won a ton of awards. They won a
- 1:17:42Speaker 7: ton of stuff. The Seahawks, I don't remember if they
- 1:17:45Speaker 7: want anything, and then the Falcons they won something for
- 1:17:49Speaker 7: this retail line they launched that's really cool called Sundays
- 1:17:53Speaker 7: in Atlanta, and it's kind of like a lifestyle brand
- 1:17:56Speaker 7: they've created out of like game Days essentially, and the
- 1:18:01Speaker 7: clothes isn't like overtly like look at me logos all
- 1:18:05Speaker 7: over it Atlanta Falcons. It's very like kind of discrete
- 1:18:08Speaker 7: and really cool stuff. Like they had this rugby polo
- 1:18:13Speaker 7: long sleeve situation and I was like, nice, I kind
- 1:18:16Speaker 7: of like it. I would wear that despite the tiny
- 1:18:18Speaker 7: Falcons lot on it. It was cool.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I learned.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: It was a great event. I really enjoyed the conference.
- 1:18:25Speaker 7: There are these guys that are actually one of them
- 1:18:27Speaker 7: was a voice in Hey Arnold, and one was one
- 1:18:29Speaker 7: of the main artists on Hey Arnold, but they've now launched.
- 1:18:34Speaker 7: They did a deal with the Yankees and the Yes
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: Network and they create kids cartoon content to get kids
- 1:18:41Speaker 7: like baseball called Bronx Buds. So they have a goal
- 1:18:44Speaker 7: of kind of working with all the teams and just
- 1:18:46Speaker 7: getting kids into sports and building that fandom really young.
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: Networked with them and got their information if you want
- 1:18:52Speaker 7: to eating right. But yeah, Fox, that's what I told them.
- 1:18:57Speaker 7: I was like, I see it now, Fox Brown Friends did.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: Tipped a video like that back in the day.
- 1:19:01Speaker 10: Is that?
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: I think I heard that at some point Tip to
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: do like a video with like telling kids how to
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: play Oh, I don't know, my kids will to murder
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: a quarterbacks.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: It was just cute.
- 1:19:11Speaker 7: It was like a little like sitcom YouTube videos where
- 1:19:14Speaker 7: the kids learn about like teamwork and friendship and you know,
- 1:19:19Speaker 7: and they have like sponsorship deal because the kids after
- 1:19:22Speaker 7: baseball practice they go hang out at this old Italian
- 1:19:25Speaker 7: guy's restaurant and they have like posting meatballs and then
- 1:19:28Speaker 7: Hexclad is their main sponsor, so like the guy only
- 1:19:30Speaker 7: cooks with hex Clad cartoon pans and it's cute. There's
- 1:19:34Speaker 7: like a lot of sponsorship opportunities there. I don't know.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: I wish I wish I was there because I would
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: have been like I actually had dabble in Falcons merchandise
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: as well. You guy.
- 1:19:47Speaker 7: Well, we asked them. So what happened with that Twitter post?
- 1:19:51Speaker 7: You guys put out.
- 1:19:55Speaker 2: Anthony Wright's saying. I've written in several times and have
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: been lucky to get some of my emails read on
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: the show. I have taken criticism from other listeners because
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: I'm a Patriots fan from New York and I'm also
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: a Nixon Mets fan. If I remember correctly, Fred and
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Mike weren't always Patriots fans. I vaguely remember hearing them
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: speak about this on PU. So my question is why
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: do some fans gate keep others and question their level
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: of fandom. I live and breathed the Patriots and have
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: for many years. My opinion is we should all embrace
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: all fans, Patriots, old and new, from all over the world.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: I agree with that I was always a Patriots fan.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: I think the more of what I was saying, it
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: is just I didn't find growing up around here that
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: there were a lot of like super invested, crazy passionate
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Patriot kids. Like growing up around here, there was a
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: big bump from the eighty five season and the Super Bowl,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: and there was a lot of that was memorable. But
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I think anybody in my like that I grew up
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: with eighties slate, eighties early nineties. I said, like, you
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: look at the yearbook. You don't see nobody the Patriot
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: stuff on. It's like, you know, all the other teams,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, the Cowboys. So really it took
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: down until they got ninety six. It's building momentum. And
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: then when they you know, two thousand and one, then
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I feel like everyone now I'm a super Patriots fan,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: but I was always kind of a Patriots fan, but
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: never obsessed. I think it's hard to be obsessed when
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: they're pretty bad.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: No, I mean, even though the Red Sox didn't win
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: until two thousand and four, this was a baseball town.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: And then when Larry Bird was here, you know, it
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: was a basketball town. And in the early seventies, Bobby
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Orr literally was the reason why hockey rinks were built.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: It became a hockey town for a little bit. Patriots
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: never were the number one team until Robert Kraft bought
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: the team in ninety four and they started winning football games. Never.
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: You couldn't even you know, when the blackout rule, you
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: couldn't even watch the games when they were at the
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: old Foxboro Stadium because they were always blacked out. People
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: that were really football fans would go to New Hampshire
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: and rent a motel room. I'm not kidding to watch
- 1:21:57Speaker 2: the game. It's the only way you can watch it.
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Wow, I'm playing games.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:01Speaker 7: I'm a big proponent of gatekit keeping, especially when it
- 1:22:04Speaker 7: comes to hidden gems on keep cod. But I've never
- 1:22:07Speaker 7: understood sports teams and leagues, especially like I think hockey
- 1:22:12Speaker 7: Twitter in particular is really gatekeepy, Like it's like they
- 1:22:15Speaker 7: don't want more people to like hockey. Why wouldn't you
- 1:22:18Speaker 7: want your sport to grow? I don't know, right, always
- 1:22:21Speaker 7: been annoying.
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: I think I don't know who was it was. I
- 1:22:24Speaker 2: don't know if it was Shaughnessy or Maserati, but somebody
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: writing about the Red Sox back in the day when
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: they started getting popular again, call them pink cats. You know,
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: the pink cats. Yeah, and it's like, listen, they can
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: get I don't care what color your hat is.
- 1:22:40Speaker 7: That's like the go to insult for women's sports fans,
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: like you're a pink cat fan?
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean as a blogger when I was blogging,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I just I've found that the way that some people
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: watch sports annoys me, but I try not to judge
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: and let people do whatever they want because it's sports
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: and it doesn't ultimately doesn't matter. I'm much rather have
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: you yelling at me about sports and politics. Yeah, and
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: everyone allowed to root in their own way. To me,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: one of the coolest experiences of my life was when
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: we went to Germany and you're connecting with fans from
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Europe and you have something in common with these people,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: maybe nothing else, but you all love the team and
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: there's an instant kind of like fellowship. That that to
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: me is the magic of sports, and especially as the
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: game grows internationally, to you know, to have people walking
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: up for us that they drove down from the UK
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: to Germany just to come see our stupid faces like
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: you know, that to me is such a cool thing
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: that can really just bridge differences.
- 1:23:37Speaker 7: And it's supposed to bring people that it does.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so. Look, if some people want to be
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: endlessly furious that the Patriots haven't found a number one
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: receiver for the last ten years, like, go for it,
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Like that's how you want to watch it. It's not
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: going to hurt anybody.
- 1:23:50Speaker 10: Go for it.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I don't maybe want to hear you call in every
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: show and tell us that they don't have an own receiver,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Like I get it. But at the same time, it's
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: not hurting anybody in sports, Like that's what it's for.
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: And the gate key being team fandom, Like there's no
- 1:24:02Speaker 7: contest for this. You don't get a certificate or a
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: trophy for being big a bigger fan someone else, Like
- 1:24:08Speaker 7: good for you. You did dedicate more of your life
- 1:24:11Speaker 7: to being obsessed with the sports team. Maybe that's not
- 1:24:13Speaker 7: the flex you think it is.
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: It's like I always think that, like no one will
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: ever take away from me the feelings that I had
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: watching this team over twenty years. And you can talk
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: about was it Bill or Tom, you know, were the
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Patriots a better dynasty than this team or all that,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: you know, comparative stuff that we inevitably get into. But ultimately,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: for me, what matters most is that that was an
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: incredible twenty year run. I get to watch this team
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: win super Bowls, I get to watch impossible comebacks, I
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: got to watch the greatest quarterback of all time, and
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: when that team won, I felt it. I knew I
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: was a fan. I didn't need to prove it to anybody.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Right now, some people maybe if they're a Bandwagon fan,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: they win there like great our team won, But I
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: don't know if they really feel it. That only you
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: can tell me if you really felt.
- 1:24:53Speaker 13: What it was like.
- 1:24:53Speaker 7: I hate the people that are like name the starting
- 1:24:57Speaker 7: lineup or oh yeah, you're a fan named that. Like
- 1:24:59Speaker 7: I had this in college once, like I'm at a
- 1:25:01Speaker 7: party at like the hockey house, and they're like some
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: just arrogant hockey players are like, oh, you want to
- 1:25:08Speaker 7: be a sports reporter. I heard no, no where Tom
- 1:25:10Speaker 7: Brady go to college. And it was like Michigan, like
- 1:25:14Speaker 7: one throw one better at me. But they were like
- 1:25:16Speaker 7: trying to like put me down. And then ironically years later,
- 1:25:20Speaker 7: I'm working at Nesson and surprised they didn't make it
- 1:25:23Speaker 7: to the NHL, and they're hitting me up to see
- 1:25:25Speaker 7: if I can get them a job at Nesson. So
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: I'm like, I remember that party my freshman year and
- 1:25:31Speaker 7: you're a boso.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: It wasn't.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: You put that red nose on and and school it's
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: the perfect And I think that's often directed at women
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: like name the players, like yeah, someone could do that
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: with their blood tap.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: No, listen, everyone, everyone can choose to be a fan
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: at the level that they want to be a fan.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: You know, if you want to read the media guide
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: and memorize it, great, good for you. What I'd be
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: like Paul and have Yeah, I do get annoyed or
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: have gotten annoyed when, you know, even on this show,
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: when some of our fans will call in when things
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: are bad and just furious and how this team is
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: embarrassing them, you know, like I'm embarrassed, you know, to
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: be a Patio. It's like really, I mean if that's
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: the case, then you've probably invested a little bit too
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: much touch of your life, you know, you know, and
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: being known like this is too much of your life,
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: you know, the whole embarrassment thing, and just mad because
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: you embarrassed me, you know, like Champagne problems.
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: Yeah, go be a Jets.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: I think the team is embarrassing every one team thirty
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: one teams every year are in some form miserable, Like
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: is it embarrassing?
- 1:26:48Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: So much to be upset about. But you know, let's
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: see THEO right saying I want to know what your
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: thoughts are on Patriots fan pages on Instagram? Do you like,
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: hate them, don't care? I personally have one. I won't
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: plug myself because I'm not a certain man from LA,
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: but I personally like running it. I feel like I
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: know more about the team and I have fun creating
- 1:27:11Speaker 2: Patriots related content. I love the show. I've been listening
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: for almost two years now, which is crazy because I
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: can't even drive yet.
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Okay, that's great, I love it. That's how I did it.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: And you're allowed to plug your fan page.
- 1:27:24Speaker 7: If you plug it, it's a great creative outlet. I'm
- 1:27:27Speaker 7: sure you can relate to that in your early blogging days,
- 1:27:30Speaker 7: and sure it's you're building community, it's a creative outlet.
- 1:27:34Speaker 7: It's great. I'd say, like the only way you can
- 1:27:36Speaker 7: go wrong is like just credit your sources, and other
- 1:27:38Speaker 7: than that, I don't think, yeah, that's great. Anyone has
- 1:27:41Speaker 7: to say about that.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: And if you're going to try to have sources, to
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: have sources and don't just make stuff up.
- 1:27:46Speaker 7: Right, I'm talking about in the sense of like aggregating,
- 1:27:48Speaker 7: like posting an Instagram graphic that there's a report.
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: I mean, it's largely what I did early on. I
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: mean I was writing for like Bleacher Report, writing articles
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: about the team. But then you know, really the first
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: version of Pats propaganda was a Tumblr blog, which is
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: mostly you're just reposting content and gifts and that kind
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: of stuff. But you know, at a certain point, I
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: was like, I need to make the move and just
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: have a dedicated website to analysis that's mine instead of
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: writing for seven different websites. And yeah, I'm writing about
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: the Patriots for Bleacher Report and for Pat's Polpit and
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: all these different places. So it's I think I at
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: a certain point, and that would be my advice, just
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: you know, focus your work and focus on, you know,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: not just what other people are doing and saying, but
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: find your own niche, which is harder now. And when
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I was starting out, there were, yeah, there were a
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: lot of blogs, but not like now where everybody's got
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: an Instagram page, you know, but finding a way to
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: stand out, like the hoodie database, like you know, that
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: stupid stuff that gives you a little bit something different
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: that the other blogs don't have.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Totally, sping Fresno, what are some of the unique peccadillos
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: of yours? Small little, relatively unimportant offenses that just annoy you.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: My dad used to suck his teeth after dinner and
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: it drove my brother insane. Personally, I'm in increasingly annoyed
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: when people insert insert right as a placeholder to hold
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: the floor when talking. Evan does this all the time.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: So what minor sins get your goat?
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: I can kind of do one right now, and then
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: my kids do it all the time, oh so much,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: especially when it's empty and they just start grinding it.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Oh that sound I hate. That's the first one that
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: popped in mind. I probably have quite a few of these,
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:29:29Speaker 7: I can tune a lot out, and it also takes
- 1:29:31Speaker 7: a lot to like, really bother me.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: I think I might have said this the one at
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: restaurants when you order a salad now they say do
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: you want protein on that?
- 1:29:41Speaker 10: Oh?
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: I can't stand that?
- 1:29:44Speaker 10: What do you have?
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Chicken? Beef? Fish? You know? So by just saying protein
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: now it requires a second question. So my answer is yes,
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: I do what do you have? And now you have
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: to tell me what protein you have? Just say, would
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: you like chicken, fish or beef on that or whatever
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: you have?
- 1:30:03Speaker 7: This whole protein thing is also if you're ordering a salad,
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: it says on the menu you can add this, this,
- 1:30:09Speaker 7: and this. You're probably ordering it. Can I have a
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: caesar salad with grilled chicken or with salmon.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: But oh I hear that, would you like protein with that?
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: I was like, oh no, I just sure it is funny.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Now when you get older, things like that start to
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: annoy you.
- 1:30:29Speaker 7: But I guess mine is just what people who don't
- 1:30:31Speaker 7: know how to merge people just fly onto the highway.
- 1:30:34Speaker 10: Now.
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: I like, purposely sometimes don't move over to the left
- 1:30:39Speaker 7: lane to let people on because I want to show them, like, no,
- 1:30:42Speaker 7: you have a yield sign, and I'm going to teach
- 1:30:44Speaker 7: you what that means.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: You're about to learn today. You're welcome.
- 1:30:48Speaker 7: You want to hit me good.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: I'm going to think of a hundred of these as
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: soon as the show wraps up. I'll have a hundred.
- 1:30:55Speaker 10: This.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: This annoys me. This annoys me. There's a lot of things.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: I mean, I hate the whole irregardless.
- 1:31:00Speaker 7: I just you know, right well, that's not a word,
- 1:31:03Speaker 7: so right.
- 1:31:06Speaker 10: With that.
- 1:31:06Speaker 7: I agree with that.
- 1:31:08Speaker 2: Robin Brockton, I agree with you guys on gatekeeping. Everyone
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: should just enjoy being a fan of a sports team
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: or even a band or series for that matter. Instead
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: of trying to prove you're a bigger fan than another,
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: embrace the fandom and try to become friends with said person.
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: We are all Patriots nation, whether you live in New
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: England or not. Also, I tried asking this question earlier
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: and Fred said my email was crap. My girlfriend and
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: I are going to Nashville tomorrow. Any recommendations for restaurants
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: and bars, Well, I would. If you want barbecue, I'd
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: go to Martin's. Get there early because they run out.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: They only make a certain amount of ribs if you
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: want ribs for the day, which tells you they're doing
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: it the right way. They only smoke so many ribs,
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: so don't expect to get there at like nine nine
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: thirty and get ribs. They're going to run out, so
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: get there around five six you'll be fine. So if
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: you want ribs, Martins is good. It's not fancy. You
- 1:32:05Speaker 2: get in line, you give your order, you go, they
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: give you a number, you go find a table and
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: then they'll they'll bring you your food. So it's not
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: fancy at all. But the ribs are good.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I've only been there once, so I'm not sure
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I can qualify to give advice, but I don't. It's
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: hard to go wrong if you just go down Broadway
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: and yeah, looking for fun and We had great barbecue.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: I don't even know where we enter barbecue, but it
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: was wonderful too. You remember that, Maddie. It was Jacks Jacks.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: We went to Jacks. And if you have a chance
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: to sing, bust to move in karaoke on Nashville Main
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: Street where everyone's trying to be a famous musician and
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: you can brutally sing a song from the nineties, go
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: for it.
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: I also highly recommend Hattie Bees Nashville Chicken sandwiches.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: They are unbelievable Hattie Bees very famous spot up right
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: on Broadway too. Yeah, right on Broadway. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: mean you can't miss right now.
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: It's a great It's a really cool city. I again,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: they're briefly joint practice a twenty nineteen, but seemed like
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: a really fun It's a.
- 1:32:56Speaker 2: Real cool city in short doses.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of like Vegas in that regard.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: It's the country version version exactly. That sounds about right, Yeah,
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: Dan and Hawaii rights in love. The idea of motivational
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: speeches being hype during or prior to games. One of
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: my favorite motivational speeches was given by John Belushi as
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: Blueto and Animal House. Yep, was it over when the
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Germans bomb Pearl Harboro? He'll no, nothing is over until
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: we decide it is. When the going gets tough, the
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: tough get going.
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: So I like it.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: That was a good one.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I had to think of some of those.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: But all the sports movies, that's like the pinnacle of
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: the sports movie, right. You gotta have either training montage
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: or the motivational speech at the That's a good one.
- 1:33:41Speaker 13: I like.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: Was there a motivational speech in Bad News Bears?
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: Oh boy, that's really I imagine. Do you see that one?
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: A long time a long time ago, long time ago.
- 1:33:53Speaker 7: Yeah, like single digit age.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Probably pretty funny though, you know, I think in Major
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: League there's a pretty good speech when I think, like
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Corbyn Burnson, maybe Tom Berenger get the team on board.
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Every sports movie he's got to have a motivational speech.
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: Let's see. This is Matt for an offseason question. I
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: was wondering if you guys had a favorite stadium that
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: you have been to across all sports. Secondly, a favorite
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: stadium based on experience. For me, Petco Park the Padres
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: Stadium has been the best I've been to so far,
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: and experience wise, would be any Vegas Golden Knights game.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: I highly recommend anyone who enjoys hockey or sports in
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: general to go to a Golden Knights game, at least
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: once I hear the presentation is really good.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I've heard the same thing.
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: I imagine Peco Park is great. I saw my spring
- 1:34:43Speaker 7: break my senior year of college. The World Baseball Classic
- 1:34:46Speaker 7: was going on and we just happened to be in
- 1:34:48Speaker 7: San Diego for spring break anyways, and went to a
- 1:34:50Speaker 7: game last minute. It was awesome.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: I haven't been to a lot of stadiums. Seattle always
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: made an impression on me seeing the Seahawks play the
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: Patriots so.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Far stadium was just a it was unbelievable, just the
- 1:35:04Speaker 2: whole design of it, Like two thirds of it is underground.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: They spent over a billion dollars making it earthquake proof,
- 1:35:11Speaker 2: Like it's the safest place in LA to be, you know,
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: that's what they told me. Like, and I did a
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: whole tour the back end, the technology there, the ribbon boards,
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: it's just just increasing. Literally it's it's an outdoor stadium,
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: you know, even though with two thirds of it is
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: is below ground level.
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: That's cool.
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I still think the place I'm always trying to
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: get back to my mind that I'll never get to
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: is the Boss and Garden. I just I And it's
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: not even that that was a great stadium, but growing
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: up there and the memories of going to Bruin schemes
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: with my dad and just the smell of that stadium.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: It's still like I I can still remember like all
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: my experiences going to that place, and anytime I see
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: like a picture of it online or something, I'm like, God,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: I'm never gonna get to go back to there.
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember place was going to the Boss and
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: Garden during the Bird era and you know during timeout
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: TV timeouts, like and you know, the Celtics would be
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: on a run. You know, Larry just hit a three
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: point you know, to like put his foot on their throats.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: Like during TV timeouts, the crowd would make it a
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: point to like just keep it all the sound up,
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: like throughout the whole TV timeout. So when TV came
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: out from the break, the place was still just going wild.
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: It was just like a whole different thing, you know.
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: It was there wasn't any of the like extra stuff.
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: There weren't any dancers back then. There weren't you know
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: them the music, crazy DJ or anything. It was just
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: the crowd creating the excitement.
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: That was what was crazy to me when I went.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: When I was living in LA went to a couple
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: of Kings games, and the contrast between mostly going to
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: Boston Garden seeing those Bruins games to then, you know,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: like late nineties, early two thousands. Now the Kings have
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: video boards and those things, and it was plus it's La,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: so it's just a whole production. You know, there's as
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: much of a show going on as the hockey game self.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean Dodger Stadium was pretty cool. Been
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: a few games there.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: A little scary really happened to Dodger Stadium once. It
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: was delightful experience.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's nice. It's hard to get to, you know,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: it's like and oh everybody comes late, and yeah, it's
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: a different experience, but it's a cool it's cool atmosphere.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: It is. Anaheim didn't really care for that. Never made
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: it down to pet Coo though. In San Diego, I
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: mean I saw the old Qualcom which, by the way,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: I saw they just tore that down. If you saw
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: that was another football stadium just next to it. So
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: even that like, not that I had anywhere the fondness
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: of that place that I have for Boston Garden, but
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: the six AFC Divisional game I saw there, you know,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: like I had a little emotion and like, it's weird
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: when you see these stadiums where you had such you know,
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: so many great experiences get torn down and you're like, man,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: that place is gone forever.
- 1:37:49Speaker 7: Going through it right now in Rhode Island with McCoy Stadium, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I.
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Think the most depressing. One of my most depressing pictures
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: to me is of the g of Boston Garden and
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: it's like half torn down, And you know, I always
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: felt like the Boston Garden when you were in there,
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: it's like time and space don't exist, Like you just
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: feel like you're in a different place. You know, I
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: don't know where.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: Outside it was a dump, but it was total dumb.
- 1:38:09Speaker 7: It was our dumb.
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: But then that picture where it was like half the
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: building is ripped off and you see you're sitting there
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: on Causeway Street and you see directly into the Boston Garden.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: You're like, my god, it was just it was just
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: a stupid building right there in the middle of box.
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: I mean, I don't want to say it's on the
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: same level, but it must have been, like you know,
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: seeing Notre Dame Cathedral when it was burnt. You know,
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: like this iconic place in ruins.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: You can you can try to rebuild it, or you
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: can call something in the Boston Garden or I mean,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I don't know if people notice notice it today, but
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: like I think the proper measurements for a hockey rink
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: right now are two hundred by eighty five, and I
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: think the Boston Garden was like one eight by like seventy.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: That's why they always build their teams to be physically rink.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: I mean, it's like you couldn't do that. Imagine like,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: oh I have to play the Patriots. Yeah, the field's
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: only eighty yards in Foxboro. Like that's the equivalent of it.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: It's it's it's crazy. You look at it now and
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: you're like they played hockey in that, Like it looked
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: like it's like on the rug in front, it's just
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: tiny little space, everybody on top of each other at
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: different different times.
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan of the world,
- 1:39:10Speaker 2: says about little annoyances for some reason ed Hocky Lely
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: always annoyed me, and I thought he was a good
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: ref And you're not a real fan unless you hear
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: Fred complain about late T shirt deliveries and you shout
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: the paper was never on time either, Fred at your phone. Yeah,
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: we for those who were PFW subscribers, you know the
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: the ordeals that we had to go through to get
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: papers delivering on time.
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: Well, I live in California when I was a subscriber,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: and I don't think it ever came on time. But
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: I enjoyed reading all the wonderful content you guys produced.
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: Right right, Curtis and Saint Louis writes in what Rookie
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: would you like to see take the big Leap in
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: training camp? And second question, would you rather attend a
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: Patriots Dolphins game in Miami during September in a parka
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: and snow pants or a ten A Patriots Bills game
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: in Buffalo in January and swim trunks and flip flops.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Take fatalities out of the question, So overdress for a
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: steaming game in September or underdress for a freezing game
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: in January.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: It's tough to be cold. I mean, I'd rather be
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: cold than hot.
- 1:40:18Speaker 7: But the thing is like I've been at late season
- 1:40:21Speaker 7: games outdoor stadium and it's freezing and like you don't
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: warm up until like midnight after a one o'clock game,
- 1:40:28Speaker 7: Whereas once the game's done, you just go into the
- 1:40:32Speaker 7: ac and you kind of get reliefed sooner.
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: I don't know. Both of us sound really missy.
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: I don't know a lot. One sounds like me trying
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: to sleep last night, because last night I just felt like,
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: no matter how much the air condition was on, it
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: just is like you're sleeping in soup.
- 1:40:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: I hate being hot, but I feel like I'd rather
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: be cold outside and dress warm, but not in swim
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: trunks though.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. I can't decide on either.
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: One Parka in September in Miami, on the bright side
- 1:40:59Speaker 7: of sweating out some talks.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: That's true. That's true.
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: There's at least exactly there you go speaking of.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: She'll be you know le bars. Yeah, rest in peace
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: to one.
- 1:41:10Speaker 2: I remember when he used to fill in bartend at
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: the Poorhouse boil some Street.
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: Yeah, after his play days, get some fights, and.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: That's the place I miss he used to He used
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: to drink more than he poured. So uh hello do
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: slex and Marine Claire writes in I always love the
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: off season weirdness, so embrace the narrative. What's the one
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: song that brings you back up? You might be down
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: or angry and playing that song just levels out your mood.
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: I want to dance with somebody, wouldn't use that's a
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: good one, Okay, can't be.
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: I mean whenever I hear it on the radio, like
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: the distinctive opening to Hotel California, It's like, Okay, turn
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: it up.
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: You get that at least twenty times a day on
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: the radio, and I like.
- 1:41:54Speaker 2: Long, cool woman in a black dress by the Hollies.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: You ever hear that?
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: Yeah, don't humm we'll get sou.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: I appreciate you saying that because I would be on tone.
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: I would be on key, I'm sure.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: Also selfishly for me, who is your favorite Patriots tight end?
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: And how is it not Gronk? Well? I think Gronk, Yeah,
- 1:42:16Speaker 2: But I mean Ben Coats is great. U you know
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: Marv uh not what's his name, Marv Cook? Not Marv Cook.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: That's not very long. You're talking about the guy went
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: to San Francisco.
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: Yeah, why can't I remember his name? Rus Francis Francis.
- 1:42:31Speaker 10: He was a beast. He was.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: He was like the athletic tight end before there were
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: an athletic tight end. Sure like he could do it all. Yeah,
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: and without focus like he wouldn't. He wasn't a workout
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: warrior or anything like that. He was just a natural athlete.
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: No, Claire, go watch some Ben Cots highlights on YouTube
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: and then then then send them, send me a message,
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: tell me what you think of Ben Coates, because he
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: was he was a truck.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: He was a truck. I think there's Gronk is better.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: Gronk was better, was better, But Ben Coates and Drew
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: bledsoe that there was a hype around that that combination,
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: and Ben Coates has some Gronk worthy patching runs.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: Ben was great. And then towards the end he slowed
- 1:43:13Speaker 2: down a little and he started getting called for offensive
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: pass in appearance a little bit. He was pushing off
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: a little bit too much. They ended up sending him
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: to the Ravens. Yep, and he had a few more
- 1:43:24Speaker 2: years at the Ravens, won a Super Bowl.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: I don't think he played much, but yeah, you know,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: I realized I don't think we answered. Was it Chanamee
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Pettigrew's question about rookie want to see the jump? I think,
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: oh I don't. Sorry, sorry to go back to that,
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: but I was gonna just say will Campbell because if
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: he think, if he comes in and plays really well
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: left tackle, oh yeah, you know you're gonna be cooking.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: I hope that's what he meant, not like last year's
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: rookie to make a jump. But sorry, I want to
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: make sure we answer questions.
- 1:43:45Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:43:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I got a feeling Alex is going to be
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: able to answer this the best. Mike from Maine says,
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: what is your go to hangover food? Greasy diner breakfast?
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: For me, glad we're getting it's such a training camp.
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: Thanks for the off season content. Me too, hangover food.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: I haven't had a hangover in a long time. To
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: me too, I have.
- 1:44:12Speaker 7: Cape Week, and then right before Cape Week, right before
- 1:44:15Speaker 7: New York City, I was visiting my friend in Charlotte
- 1:44:19Speaker 7: and we partied like we were in college again, Greasy
- 1:44:22Speaker 7: diner breakfast. But sometimes, like even then, like if it's
- 1:44:27Speaker 7: that bad of a hangover, you can't even muster up
- 1:44:29Speaker 7: the energy to be in public at a sit down restaurant,
- 1:44:32Speaker 7: greasy bacon, egg and cheese.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: So what is it about the grace miss NUTRITIONI I
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: don't know.
- 1:44:37Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: It just feels right, you like I don't There's only
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: one thing I can eat right now.
- 1:44:42Speaker 7: Eggs absorbs the Yeah, I don't know. I don't come
- 1:44:44Speaker 7: back to life. So I have like a breakfast sausage,
- 1:44:47Speaker 7: egg and cheese breakfast or a bacon, egg and cheese.
- 1:44:49Speaker 7: Don't discriminate, but maybe something about like the carbs and
- 1:44:53Speaker 7: the bread or the croissant, like soaking it.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Up in universal answer? What I've never even heard someone
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: pitch another good hang with McDonald's.
- 1:45:01Speaker 7: Depending on how late you wake up, Just go right
- 1:45:04Speaker 7: to McDonald's. McDonald's fountain diet coke, Yeah, PEPSI.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: That's Probablyonald's diet whatever.
- 1:45:11Speaker 7: There's diet black soda, di cola. Uh, like a medium
- 1:45:16Speaker 7: French fry, medium to large French fry, cheeseburger.
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: I'm ecconom McDonald's in decades, maybe at least driving back minutes.
- 1:45:26Speaker 7: I'll never be too good for McDonald I.
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: Was driving back from my boys weekend a couple of
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: weeks ago, and I stopped on the mass Pike for
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: I was. I thought I'd get a Duncan, and I
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: was like, all right, I'm gonna have to do Mickey
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: teas I haven't done.
- 1:45:35Speaker 10: In a while.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: I'm just gonna get an egg and cheese. I couldn't
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: eat both of them. I was, I just I don't know, really,
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, see, I'm I'm addicted. Not that I go too much,
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: but like even just the thought of a big Mac
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: gets me, Like pavlocks.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: I started.
- 1:45:52Speaker 2: It's one of the great sandwiches of all time.
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: One or two times a quarter, I'm doing McDonald's.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: But did you ever have it a at shoot one
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: of the restaurants up here in Patriot Place, the Worldly One,
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: you know, I'm talking about the Worldly One, Worldly One,
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: right next to Duncan, Red Robin, No Citizens, Crust Citizens,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Crust Worldly right.
- 1:46:14Speaker 2: Because the menuse a horizontal.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: They have like a big Mac pizza. So it's like
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: all the oh yeah, fixing on the pizza and it's wonderful.
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: Okay. I liked it. When McDonald's had the big Mac rap,
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: you felt like a little less guilty because it wasn't
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: on the butt. It wasn't a rap, but it tasted
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: like a big mac.
- 1:46:32Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: We used to have hockey practice in high school sometimes
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: in the morning before school, and then we would all
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: just go to McDonald's before and I think there was
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: one time I ate seven egg mcmuffins. But you know,
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: you just like a practice was literally like five am
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: to six am, and then you know, you have a
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: couple of hours to kill and we just hang out there.
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: You're like sixteen, seventeen years old. You could just take
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: that stuff down.
- 1:46:53Speaker 7: Oh yeah, I love like a cheeseburger salad when I'm
- 1:46:56Speaker 7: craving a cheeseburger, but I don't want to be a slob.
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: Take the bread a big but it's a salad, you know,
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: over lettuce and like a patty.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Well that's like Evan's jersey, Mike.
- 1:47:06Speaker 7: Yeah, not just the it, you know, anything you didn't do.
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: Where's that jersey? My sponsorship going? You have that thing going.
- 1:47:12Speaker 7: I know they got chicken salad sandwhich is.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: Back Tyler and Delaware. About Polk, I'm in total agreement
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: with Mike. Polk had a bad season. Yeah, it sucks,
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: but numerous rookies who had bad first years turned it
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: around and had solid careers including Devontae Adams, Austin, Jeffrey,
- 1:47:31Speaker 2: Brandon Marshall. I'd even argue Marvin Harrison had a disappointing
- 1:47:34Speaker 2: rookie year, but I digress. Certainly Marvin Harrison Junior did right.
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: People thought he.
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: Was gonna be.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: I don't know what his numbers were, but I would
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: just chime in and say that Evan would say right
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: now that based on Polk's numbers what he achieved, it's
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: would probably be kind of unprecedented, not probably, it would
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: be unprecedented for him to have a breakout year. Now
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: if you guys who produced that little don't have him
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: produced so.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: Poke showed significant potential last offseason leading into the season.
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: It was the Miami game with the touchdown that could
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: call back that killed his motivation and lost trust within
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: the coaches after comments he made following the game. We
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: as Patriots fans should want and root for guys to
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: step up and succeed. So instead of crapping on him
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: like I hear on Paul's shows, why can't we just
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: root for him hope he puts in the work and
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: makes the team. Poke supporters unite.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: Yeah, Now, it'll be fun. I mean, I think it's
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: a good uh, it's a good point to talk about
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: during training camp. You know, maybe he's uh, maybe he
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: does really well, he picks up, he starts producing like
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: he did in camp again, and you know, people like
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Paul and Evan will maybe have to consider it. Or
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: maybe he can't get you know, can't break through. I
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: don't know, but I just I believe in the player
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: I do. I think that he has a skill set
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: they need and it's not I think people get lost
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: when it's not the number one receiver. That I don't
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: want him then, but I think he liked pop. He
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: could have a role and be helpful to this offer.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: Let's see eight five five pats five hundred is the
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: hotline Marks in Connecticut? What's Oh?
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: Oh?
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: Hi, Mark? That was my I hit the wrong button. Man,
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: Tell him to call call back. Mark. I'm sorry. If
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: you call back, we'll get you right on the there
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: is this is this Mark? Okay, what's up? Mark? Sorry?
- 1:49:18Speaker 6: That's all right? Guys?
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: How you doing good?
- 1:49:22Speaker 8: Brother?
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: Welcome back.
- 1:49:24Speaker 8: Hey, it seems like you guys are altimating days off.
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: That's how it works.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't all go at the Fred Sitder myself.
- 1:49:34Speaker 17: A couple of things, you.
- 1:49:39Speaker 8: Know, messing with the guy and not just giving him
- 1:49:42Speaker 8: the contract extend too much of a valuable player to
- 1:49:46Speaker 8: them that the Patriots would love.
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: To have, well, especially now when you get your quarterback
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: on a rookie contract.
- 1:49:53Speaker 8: Right exactly. The other thing is is that this defense,
- 1:49:57Speaker 8: Deuce and I know you're in agreement on this, they should, realistically,
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: with the schedule being the third easiest, be a top
- 1:50:03Speaker 8: five defense.
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: With the players that they brought in. No, obviously health
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: will play.
- 1:50:08Speaker 8: A stancial role in that, but realistically I can see
- 1:50:11Speaker 8: this team winning ten eleven games.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I realistically could too. I mean, it
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: has to break right and they have to stay healthy,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: like you said, but that that's to me is the
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: biggest thing. I just my one thing with maybe holding
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: this defense back is if they do have a string
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: of bat injury luck at a specific position or two
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: like edge or linebacker. I just think Spallaine and Landry.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Spallayne and Landry super valuable guys that they can't afford
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: to lose. That would be big drop offs.
- 1:50:39Speaker 8: Absolutely, you guys, I love you guys.
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: Have a great one, all right, Thanks Mark, Thanks for
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: the call, but I'm sorry that I hung up on you.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: You got to feel good about the cornerbacks, you know,
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: especially the two starters. Yeah, with Duggar coming back, I
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: mean health, health, definitely questions.
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: That's the one thing I hate about football. It's not
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: when it works. It's not if it's when guys get hurt.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: You know. That's like it's like two thousand and eight.
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: I remember really like, oh my god, you're kidding me.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: The season's over, like six minutes in. You know, I
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: know it wasn't and you still watch matc Castle, but
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: especially this sport. It that's how it happens. Boom down completely,
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: everything goes sideways, and everything we talked about from free
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: agency in March to this point where you're you know,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: getting into September, it's like it's out the window now,
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: it does. You know We've talked about all this time
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: about Drake or Landry or whoever, and you know, now
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: they're down and it's a totally different equation.
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: Sean said Vancouver, Hey Sean, Hey.
- 1:51:32Speaker 17: Fred of food things. Yeah, I agree with Charlotta in
- 1:51:35Speaker 17: in terms of expectations. It's not a number thing. I
- 1:51:38Speaker 17: don't know how many wins they're going to get, but
- 1:51:40Speaker 17: yet just to see the improvement of progress, especially with
- 1:51:43Speaker 17: the quarterback of Trick May is doing well, then I'll
- 1:51:46Speaker 17: be happy. So that's that's it in a muscle, really excited.
- 1:51:50Speaker 17: Like like Mike, you were saying that for some reason,
- 1:51:53Speaker 17: there's just a difference with this team that it seems
- 1:51:56Speaker 17: like they're going to be really good. They're going to
- 1:51:58Speaker 17: take a big jump, but don't know we have seen it.
- 1:52:00Speaker 17: But I'm so looking forward to what happens when the
- 1:52:04Speaker 17: pads come on and practice and when they're going up
- 1:52:07Speaker 17: against another team for the dual practices and then the
- 1:52:11Speaker 17: exhibition games. I want to see what they look like.
- 1:52:13Speaker 17: And with other fans, you know, sometimes we have expectations
- 1:52:17Speaker 17: with players like Pop Douglas, like it's not realistic. You're
- 1:52:21Speaker 17: expecting them to be Edelman or Welker and like six
- 1:52:25Speaker 17: seventh round picks. That's not what really happens most of
- 1:52:29Speaker 17: the time. I mean, you look at since twenty seventeen,
- 1:52:31Speaker 17: we haven't had maybe half a dozen guys who've worked out.
- 1:52:34Speaker 17: So I'd be happy. Like if Brian is like a
- 1:52:38Speaker 17: swing aligneman is going forward, that to me, that's a success.
- 1:52:43Speaker 17: You can't expect them to be all pro when you're
- 1:52:46Speaker 17: drafting that late with these guys. And the other thing
- 1:52:48Speaker 17: I wanted to point out in regards to the flags,
- 1:52:54Speaker 17: like challenges. I like the way the CFL does that.
- 1:52:58Speaker 17: You have one challenge, you get it right, you get
- 1:53:02Speaker 17: it again, and you can also challenge p I.
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: So that's that's it.
- 1:53:07Speaker 17: I'll let you discuss that forever left.
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: Okay, thanks, Yeah, I mean I I don't mind that
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: one challenge as long as you keep getting it right,
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: you get it back.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: You know, puts a lot more on that coach trying
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: to measure the Yeah, you've got to be certain the
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: right moment.
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: You got to you got to know that it was
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: a bad call. Yeah, So I don't mind that either,
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: you know. I just think let's just get it right.
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: I don't care how. Let's just get it right. You know,
- 1:53:36Speaker 2: we've been on both ends where you're the recipient of
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: a bad call and you win that way, but it
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: just hurts so much when your team loses because of
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: a bad call.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: You know, Well, if I can put my youth hockey
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: referee hat on a second, like as a rat like,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: I just want to get it right too, like I
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: don't care about being right right, and sometimes I mean
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: there's a lot going on and it's like, coach, I'm
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: not trying to screw you, I just didn't see it.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Like I call something I didn't see. If the camera
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: shows it and the replay shows that I missed it,
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: then fine.
- 1:54:06Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: Do you wonder though, if they would start to like
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: grade the officials and oh well, this official had seventeen
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: calls overturned and this guy's only had three.
- 1:54:14Speaker 7: So I feel like they do right.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: I mean, they're definitely evaluated to some extent, but I
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: just wonder if that would be you know, they try
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: to get the best cruise at the end, but I
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: would just wonder if that this becomes then another big
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: key piece of it, how many calls if theirs have
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: been overturned?
- 1:54:27Speaker 2: Is that a does that.
- 1:54:30Speaker 7: On how you did?
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: Right? Like every game he's getting like six calls overturned,
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: Like sorry, buddy.
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: Hell back to the Remember we were talking about soccer
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: and people playing paying for club soccer teams. El from
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: Wisconsin says, wild, how would people paying for all these clubs?
- 1:54:48Speaker 2: The US still can't compete with the random people who
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: just play soccer for fun around. Well, I mean yeah,
- 1:54:55Speaker 2: but I mean a lot of those great soccer players
- 1:54:59Speaker 2: aren't random people who just played for fun. They're they're
- 1:55:02Speaker 2: you know, identified early lives too and put on you know,
- 1:55:07Speaker 2: real Madrid's youth academy, right, you.
- 1:55:09Speaker 7: Know, like twelve moving away their families.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: Yeah. Plus that's the main sport in those countries.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: So yeah, you know, shout out to my cousin's kids.
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: She she grew up in Portland. Her dad is one
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: of the coaches for the MLS team in Charlotte. But
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: she she was playing on one of those club teams
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: like we have here for the revs, where all these teams,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: you know, seem to have like full pro academy. And
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: she just she just went to Rutgers. She's gonna play
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: at Rutgers. So she's Division one soccer player.
- 1:55:35Speaker 7: That's a great program.
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: Shout out my cousin's kid. But I hear. I I
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: just think about all the time I loved hockey growing up,
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: like I couldn't get enough, and now I just like
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: I don't even know where I would fit in with
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: all these players who are just constantly going to showcases
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: and this and that. I mean, I played for my
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: public high school. I played hockey night in Boston and
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: played a couple of tournaments around here in the summer,
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: but like I took time off, I didn't play with
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: that much, you know, in the summer. And now it
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: just seems like it's a year round job. It's completely competitive.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: As much money as my parents were fortunate enough to
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: be able to pay for me to play hockey, now
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: it seems like even more. And as a referee, I
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: go and I ref these showcases and I'm like, none
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: of these kids are playing college hockey, but how much
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: are they playing to play six games? And you know, Friday, Saturday,
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: Sunday and you flew up from Florida. You're missing school
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: to be here, and you're twelve years old and you
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: still can barely skate, Like what are.
- 1:56:27Speaker 7: We doing before?
- 1:56:28Speaker 12: For me?
- 1:56:28Speaker 7: Like before high school, it was fifty dollars love the
- 1:56:30Speaker 7: Youth Soccer Association. You pay fifty dollars, you get a
- 1:56:33Speaker 7: T shirt with a number on it, and you go play.
- 1:56:35Speaker 7: And we turned out incredible soccer teams year after year.
- 1:56:38Speaker 7: And now it's like, okay, you have to pay a
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: couple thousand to be on this club team. And then
- 1:56:43Speaker 7: you also have to pay per tournament and for the
- 1:56:45Speaker 7: travel accommodation, and then also you're going to get three
- 1:56:47Speaker 7: different kits that you have to pay for too. And
- 1:56:50Speaker 7: it's like these kids aren't playing for Barcelona. They don't
- 1:56:53Speaker 7: need their uniform suits. I think they are, That's what
- 1:56:55Speaker 7: I'm saying, Like it's not that serious.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know what is Syria Bob's Discount Furniture.
