- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, welcome to MMQP NFL podcast.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Conoror here in Rainy, New Jersey, and that's Albert Brewer over in Massachusetts.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: She's actually just ran outside.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is a little bit of a foreshadowing of what we're going to do here over the first couple minutes of the podcast.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, a kind of alarm to my wife.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: We got home from dropping the kids off at school.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: It is pouring rain.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: I looked at the forecast.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I need five minutes.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, what's going on?
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, today's the day to see the grass.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Got to see the grass today.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to rain for the day to see the grass.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Are you guys going to see the grass?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: She was going to ask you, can you see the ground?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: We can see the ground.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we've got a heavy, we've got a heavy rain overnight.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: a couple of days ago, whatever that would have been, and it barely made a dent in the amount of snow we have, like we still have like over a foot of snow on the ground after it raining all, like from the afternoon overnight into the morning.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: I had no idea that Massachusetts was essentially Siberia or like your cuts, you know.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we had like the ice pack, you know, like that that everybody's got
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm getting out of my driveway is getting out and getting walking that the walkway right now is very treacherous because as people who live in these, you know, sorts of regions know what ends up happening is it rains and then this time of year freezes and so yes now it's like now it's like an off so of course to get to your car.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, for sure.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was a concern.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I've been like, you know, whoever had like we have a baby, right?
- 1:38[SPEAKER_01]: So whoever has the baby, the pressure is jacked up so much now.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Fall with the baby.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: Holy shit.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's yeah.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: I find myself like feeling responsible to even with the kids, like just if I don't warn them and they bust their ass, then it's on me.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, as long as I warn them, if it happens, then you know, you're on your own kid.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like, I feel like my kids and especially your kids are probably old enough now that it's funnier to see them fall from the ice than anything like that.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's a point where it's terrifying.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's, yeah, there's, there's a razor thin margin there, but like we do drop off at school.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: And they have the aids that come and you drop them off and they just get you ferry the kids from the car into the corridor.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: And there was this ice patch and the one lady just stood there all day being like, please don't get out here.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: And all these parents are not locked in at all.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're, you know, they're already in the office mentally.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're dropping these kids off and we were just watching these kids bust ass fall after fall after fall.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of funny.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: When I was in college like Ohio State's a very flat campus like that part of the country is very very flat, but there was there was one in-cline like that was like a highly foot traffic area and it was so many people would bust ass like like on that little patch when the black ice would come because there'd be people who like just didn't know or like maybe they're the freshman or whatever
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so like I would be lying if I said I didn't go there for entertainment a couple times just to watch people.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: lose their feet and come crashing down.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought it was the funniest thing in the world.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Just honest with me, people with like huge backpacks on.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: Doing the, you know, I think the learning tunes, like the problem a little bit.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a fecon everywhere.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, except instead of like, like it's with the road run of the beef picking up with the road run, if you think I'm going 40s per hour or whatever, go back and like,
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and now SGA's jacket pops up on on TV here.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my gosh, yeah, I've never seen anything like that.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so there was two things, so here's here's what we're going to do and then I want to address what you just said because I think it's important.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing a draft.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: of the shit that we put off all through the football season and have to do now and we alluded to this last episode and the prickly part here is that.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost busier now than it is during the season, but the optics are such that when there's games not being played, the expectation is that like we're teachers and we just have the summer off and so this is the list that gets pushed to tomorrow.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: This is what we're gonna do that.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure you get like the question from other parents, it's like after the Super Bowl every year.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you do now?
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: And you have to explain to them that this is every time, yeah, every time, yeah, I mean, yeah, it's it's actually our time off, you know, interestingly enough really isn't till June July, like that's what it is, yep.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of like coming to groups with that, like there were those few years where there was still some separation between the combine and the and the super bowl.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: And like I remember like the first year was only two weeks.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, God, like we're going to be an Indianapolis in no time.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: And you're kind of bitching about it and everything else and you know, then you get to acceptance, which I think is where we're all at.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: Next year, I'm going to check the dates of next year's combine because next year, the Siubles on Valentine's Day, and President's Day is the next day, because it's that weird, you know, because the Siubles is always the second Sunday, President's Day is always the third Monday.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's the one circumstance where the second Sunday meets with the third Monday, 14 15th.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what a trap dude, I'm going to be strapped up for travel the next day because that's oh boy.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we had and it's in LA, which, you know, that and that are for I talk.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: So like that.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so, uh,
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, like so next year, though, is the combine, do they push that back a week?
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: Or is there like work truck week or whatever an Indianapolis where they can't push it back and now the combine, it's a week after the suit.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Indianapolis is a big convention city, maybe it's the pipe fitters convention, man, which a week is the one that I'd become used to, where they pull, they'll have like a bucket truck.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it'll be the last day of the combine, you'll be walking through the conventions center.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: All of a sudden, there's just this massive bucket truck.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: sitting in like the middle of the convention center.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I asked the waitress once at Nikki Blaine's the cigar bar there.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, you must love this weekend, because there's all these NFL people in there, and they're probably great tippers.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: And she said, not even close to the best weekend for me.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, what's the best weekend for you?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: And she said the pipe fitters convention.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: She's like those guys are unbelievable tippers, just the best, best tippers.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not as bad as though.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: What are you covering the league when the cheerleading competition?
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: like used to coincide with the combine?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Do you ever remember, you would probably remember that.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have a problem with that.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: I used to be the combine with coincide with this massive chewing competition.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: So you had in the hallways the convention center, at one point during the week, all these like gruff old football coaches walking by like 12 year old cheerleaders, it was the old love that.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's the weirdest thing in the world,
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Don't love that at all.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but anyway, so we're going to do the dishes.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to do, uh, but have to do draft.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're going to pivot into free agency and sort of reset the table.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: No, we know what happened with Kyler Murray.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: We think we know it's going to happen with to a tongue out.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have some high profile releases and one of the kind of reset.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: the table as we head into next week, but first, let's do it Albert.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, wait, wait, wait, before we do that, you did bring up SGA.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I encourage everybody to just go and check out two great things from the internet last night.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: SGA.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: dressed like a like a like a lion.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I said it looked like he like it looked like a badger was was attacking him.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: The picture I saw at least it looked like a badger was like wrapped around his neck and attacking him and like taking him out at the throat you know.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: The other great thing about the Internet last night that I texted a few buddies is that skip bailis and his wife are just now on Twitter live discussing the war in Iran.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: Iran.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: So are they going to like the Steven A route like pivoting the politics?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I guess, but like he sat down very seriously.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Skip and was like, okay, it's time, honey, for us to discuss the war.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I've never seen his wife before.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, there's plenty of time.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of content there if you want to go catch up on it.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: But all right, let's roll into the draft.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: I have shared with you my big board Albert.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: OK. And here is the big board.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_01]: OK. And we're going to do the first pick.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: So wait, what do you want to do with the month?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: There here.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: First pick is what you want to do the most.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: OK, OK, I was going to ask, is it like the worst or the best?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: OK. Well,
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it sounds like this sounds like a recipe for getting myself in trouble, but let's flip.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's flip it.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: First pick is the worst thing, right?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: Because you get your avoid it if you draft it first.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like the shittyest thing would go first because it's like the biggest It's like the best.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will do and so here are the things here clean up the yard Take the kids to insert here.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: Legoland six flags the library anywhere out of the house
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, parent teacher conferences hang shit up, put shit away.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Get dinner and drinks with those friends.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I put friends and air quotes because a lot, you know, maybe some friends convenience, like they're not your friends.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: They're friends that you have through your, um, four or three kids.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like schmitty from the frat house.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: It, uh, who we've been looking forward to seeing for nine years.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, uh,
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's an accountant.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's like scarily close to like my friend.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Shippedick.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I can.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Shippedick.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: I always tell people about him.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Shippedick.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's my, he was, I know, Shelby's gonna play that out for a good reason.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: But like,
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he got that nickname because when he was a pledge, he ran a try, a little tiger's tricycle into a tree and someone, one of his, one of his pledge brothers looked at him laugh pointed him and goes, man, you're a shit dick and it's stuck.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's the point where like when I introduced him like I introduced him to my wife we were me and me with my girlfriend at the time at a wedding in Ohio She actually like liked him and felt bad for him that he had that nickname and so when I called him over later in the night like okay shitty get over here Like she was like she looks at me and Claire's and goes his name is Andrew
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: that is incredible.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: After dinner and drinks with friends, air quotes, we have book the family vacation, get the oil changed and fix everything that's wrong with the car, do the taxes, and then the last one, 10 out of 10 is you are now the primary chauffeur.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: And again, I should
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: husband lists.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is like a recognition.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have, I mean, like, well, I got one to add.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you asked me about this before, but just hit me is house repairs involved in car repairs?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so you know what?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Let's.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take out because I'm going to move primary show for into the take the kids.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll just do house repairs.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's perfect.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: And this is not like an agreed.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: husband like man show 90s thing.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is like a recognition of how good I have it that like yeah basically my entire thought process is football from July until February and that I just have to step out into the real world.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: It reminds me that story that Duane Wade's wife Gabrielle Union told where his first day of retirement he was like I'm going to go to the grocery store.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: He had never had to go to the grocery store as an adult before and she said before you leave Duane how much do
- 12:59[SPEAKER_01]: And he stood there for a minute and thought, and he said, I don't know what about $25.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Dwayne Wade thought that a gallon of milk cost $25.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: He had never been inside of a grocery store.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: And while that's not our life, it's like you kind of have to step in and out of the real world, and so that's why we're doing this.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so age before Beauty Albert, you get the number one overall pick, number one being the shittiest thing to do now that football season is over, take your pick.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I'm gonna like, I think on my shocks and people here and go, I'll put shit away with my first pick.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, that's not, that's not shocking.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, like, so I get comments, like I get back from the Super Bowl and at that point I've been on the road for two weeks and been traveling a bunch, right?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: So the put shit away thing is not a one time thing.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I have it number one, right?
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because it becomes a daily thing and I get the comment from my wife.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you've ever gotten this comment.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're not in the hotel anymore.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, it's like a dog that's allowed to be outside for like half the year and then it has to come inside and learn how to, how like people live.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I can put you in a way first because it is like a constant nonstop.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: It takes like a few weeks to get past that, you know.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, no, I'm with you.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Number two, second overall pick.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm probably going to shock some people here, too.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to put hang shit up.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, and you're so no, put shit away and hang shit up or totally different.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: And here's why hang shit up is the worst.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because the probability.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: That you fuck up in a gigantic way.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, oh, you mean like hanging like pictures on the walls.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I hate that too because there is a It seems simple, but it's not it's not you have to level the picture.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: You have the picture has to you fit in the context of the wall It has to just find it's fine.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine to find the stud
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: and then if you miss even by a fraction you have put a hole into the wall that is now an ice or and then you have to cover it up with like joint compound and then you have to repaint the area like I I'll tell you like we got our bathroom done and I've
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: One time I was seeing what was going on out there's a window outside of the bathroom.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so I leaned on the brand new towel rack that we had just put in the bathroom and smashed it through the wall.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so I had to put the towel rack onto the wall, but if you do that, you have to find the studs again.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: You have to patch the hole, you have to paint the wall.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so hanging shit up is just the worst.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like hanging shit up at all.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go for three to three overall pick to house repairs.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe this is sort of in that category too, but I'm not the handiest person in the world.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, but like what I always say is like my dad, so Emily's dad could fix everything.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: My dad had a guy for everything.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: My dad, I will say this.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: My dad was like, my dad wanted to be like a mob boss.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: He had a key to a guy for everything.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so it was the smartest thing in the world because like,
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: Knowing you're not getting screwed on something is so freaking valuable.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like having the knowledge that this person who's doing something to my house or my car or whatever it is, right?
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: Knowing that that person is not getting over on you is gold, right?
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I put house repairs here because
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Everything is before you own a house like when I was living in cities and stuff like that and I had a landlord Everything is way more expensive than you think it would be right 100% like it's like I feel like everything you do is at least a thousand dollars You know, and it's just like it is this like little chipping away at like
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all right, like I, you know, I made an X amount of money during the season, blah, blah, blah, blah, and then, you know, it's like my God, like, and it's always the most annoying stuff that like you would never notice, but you have to do it.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: That is like annoyingly expensive, right?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's like your, you know,
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's your hot water heater, it's your dad's sort of stuff that is like you're not going to notice the benefit of paying for that, but you got to do it.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because if it does, if something does go wrong, then you're kind of screwed.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm just annoyed with house repairs because the expense of all of it.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like always it always winds up being more than you thought it would be to the point where now I'm conditioned to think everything's going to be at least a thousand bucks.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, there's no question.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: House repairs solid love that one.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Next on the list.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: I would say is number four screws number four overall pick is I'm do the tax okay the taxes and here's white sucks we have a great account which do I love that out right but like the even it you know
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: I like the person who does my taxes, I don't dislike the person, but there is the fact that, I mean, you and I put a lot of hustles together, there's a lot of documents, the documents come in January.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have to have them ready for someone in like March and it has gone from the basement to the office to nine different folders and then there's always something that you're missing and I'm still in adult and I don't understand how anything works in terms of like the stuff that I have to pay taxes for and so I get like belittle a little bit and I think that there's like a there's common thread there, Albert between.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: home repairs in taxes, whereas both times you're made to feel like a complete dumb ass, you know, like if someone comes over to fix something, they're like, oh, you didn't know that like you needed a new carburetor bur bur bur bur bur bur bur, you know, and it's like, no man, that's just not my job, you know, but you feel like a dumb ass, and taxes are the same thing where
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: The accountants like we'll don't you know that like deduction, but but and as soon as they start talking about numbers my brain just melts into softer.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's just like like a humiliating moment for me.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: So taxes.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think is number four.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like to do.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, taxes make me feel dumb too for me, too.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like to feel dumb.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: Number five.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't want to do this one.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to respond to you doing it.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, um, and you had your cursor on it.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I think you know where I'm going here.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: the dinner drinks with friends right um okay and friends right friends in air quotes everybody has friends in air quotes I had this I I've had this conversation with my wife where something will happen in town and she'll get and and she'll be you know like whatever
- 20:35[SPEAKER_00]: something stupid happens in town, dumb stuff, dumb town stuff, right?
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and there are certain amount of people.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: Let's call it what it is and everybody's down that, you know, kind of acts like they're still in high school in the way they socialize, right?
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I hope my response to her is usually in those circumstances.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: Why the hell do you think I run off to Ohio every time I have a chance?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, which is a, and I remember hearing this like, I think it's before I had kids, like the guys like most guys, when they get out of college or sort of like you can make new friends, but I'm kind of all set.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: For sure, I'm kind of all set.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like I got people I can trust, I have people I love, people that are like, and I still have high school friends, I still have college friends.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I always think it's weird when like, if you go to a wedding, right?
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: And there's like someone just from work or someone in someone's wedding party.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: I always think that that's a little, cause like my friend, my wedding party was all high school college friends, right?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: So like I just think like some of those four that doesn't mean I don't like I like a lot of friends that I've made since college like took it be wrong but like there are a lot of like those forced interactions and I and I think like part of this for me would also be there's an element of when you get out of the season.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: like everybody thinks now you're super available and really what I look forward to most and maybe this makes me old and I am old, but I kind of just want to sit a sit at home.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I kind of want to just sit at home with the kids, whatever.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I want to have like lazy nights.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I want to have nights where I'm watching a movie or something like that.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, just the act of sitting there by yourself and watching TV, you don't get a ton of that during the season.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so, like, this, like, I do dinner and drinks with people like for a living, you know what I mean?
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Look, so that part of it, especially if it's like a forced interaction.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm not wild, but again, I like a lot of the people that I don't, I don't want anybody listeners take it the wrong way, but there's definitely like an element of, you know, why do you think I wrote, why do you think I run off to Ohio every time I have a free weekend?
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say like the good thing about like my wife and I is that we're on the same wavelength in terms of people.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: So there's not really a ton of like, like really tough hangs.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there's not a lot of those left.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: We've whittled this down, too.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of things like that.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: We were weren't a much better place now than when we first moved to the suburbs where it was like, you feel like you got to hang out with everybody.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel that way anymore.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: And to clarify, I would say that most of the tough hangs are on my end.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so I think my wife would be dreading this just as much as I would be, you know, there's just like a couple of those left.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, me and Emily are 100% on the same page on this one too.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, okay.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Next, uh, number six, I'm going to do really, you may have to make sure we weren't offending people.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: I know, I'm like, I have to, like, I hope that the nuance is captured in this, but in this day and age, I'm, I'm not, uh,
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: Not looking for it.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Not believing it will be get the oil change car repairs is next You know, I don't mind this one.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's a money trap.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's my problem with it But when I go to the oil change I'll know that thing that makes me feel like a dumbass though Albert right because the guys like do you know you have any idea how long you've been right dried around on These tires and it's like man.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know like you tell me you know you have any idea like your your brake fluid is low like I know how to check that
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: When it makes you feel more guilty too because it's like when you have kids it makes you feel like you're putting your kids at risk.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you know what I mean, like so I'm I'm mostly with you on that too.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is another one where everything's like a little more expensive than you thought it was going to be.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and that there's you know, this is like like to me like having a good mechanic is like really like that that to me is like yes.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: the greatest thing.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure I've quite found that guy yet, which is why I brought it up.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: My dad had a mechanic at Colonial Auto and Sudbury Massachusetts when I was growing up, like there was so trustworthy to the point where when I was living in Boston, right?
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: I would bring my car there because I knew they weren't gonna screw me, you know?
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: So the one thing about this, the reason it was lower on the list for me,
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: is because when I go to get my OL change, I just bring my computer with me and I'm actually like kind of productive.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: So like, okay, I can see that.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's it's something I can do that's like relative like the expenses up issue, but it's like relatively low like low effort you drive there.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: They take the car in.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: whatever's wrong's wrong, and then, you know, the expense sucks, but like the act of it isn't the worst thing in the world.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, I think this is the bad part again is like being made to feel like we just had to get new tires in the guys like, you know, if you don't buy these tires, you're not safe with your kids and it's like, okay, pal, this is, uh, you know, whatever.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, okay, so we
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7th, 7
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean like so I'm sitting there and like maybe Emily's been to like two of these with with with whichever of our kids it is and they start talking and now it's like oh my god like it's like they're talking in code
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, you know, you try to fake it, you know, yeah, yeah, and so it makes you, it makes you feel like a little negligent when you're in that position.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't hate it because I like knowing what's going on in my kids lives, like right, but that first one back.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like a little bit of a problem because if you did miss them in the fall because you were wherever, then it's like,
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, then it's like, I got some, you know, I'm the dumbest person in the room now.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: And that's tough spot to be in.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: I actually would love parenthesis because they combine it with the book fair.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: And so we have like one of the grandparent's come over and they sit with the kids.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: for like an hour, an hour and a half, my wife will go out, my wife and I'll go out.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: We'll get like maybe like a quick dinner together.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: We'll do the parent teacher conferences or we'll get just like dessert after the parent teacher conferences and we'll hit the book fair.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: And like if the kids do well in the parent teacher conference, they write a dream list in their class of the books that they want from the book fair.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: So you get to come home like Michael Jordan in the 90s and slam home like something they wanted from the book fair and then they're just screaming
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: parent teacher conferences.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I also oddly like a lot of parents don't, but we have like the principal does the like tone setting, hype up thing where they introduce like the theme for the year and they play like music and they get jacked people jacked up like you're in the studio audience at Oprah.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: I am just like very much along for the ride on that.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: I would good time with that.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right, 8th overall pick, starting to get tough here, but I think obvious choice here is clean up the yard.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Cleaning up the yard sucks because the leaves have gotten wet.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: They're just crammed into like every corner of the house, and it's like underneath the bushes.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: You gotta get leaves from under bushes, which is just so annoying and grating.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said at the top of the show, I just landed some grass seed, and so,
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, that's kind of where we're at on that one.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: I think cleaning up the art just sucks.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we have one on skatepers.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: What should I do and pick that one, but I Yeah, but you can pay for this podcast.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, we have a bigger yard.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: So like it's just like honestly, like it was a time money equation for me.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't actually like when I do have to yard work, I don't mind it.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_00]: Because it is a chance to like you put a podcast in like this podcast and just kind of space out for a little while and the act of like being able to go and space out for a little while isn't the worst thing in the world like I actually like when I was shoveling last week where we had to I mean it was literally coming down so hard here I
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like for people who don't know I don't think I don't I don't know if I said it on the podcast But we they called the National Guard into our town and they pulled all the police and fire off the streets Like that's how bad it was this snow here and so like in a situation like that God bless my mother-in-law gave me the advice like you need to be out there like every hour is coming down this hard and so
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I would get out there every, like, and it was almost like a little bit of like a break where I, you know, again, like I pop in my air pods, I, you know, I listen to whatever and I'm just shoveling, you know, and it's right it's not like what you pick to do, but like there is some kind of like, well, I'm getting some physical activity here.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a little bit of a break from all the noise.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: So again, if I was responsible for everything, then maybe be a little bit of a big problem, but it was low on the list for me.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: Number nine, what do you got?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is tough.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's a clear answer here.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's book vacation for me.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, interesting.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I just think it's like book vacation because,
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: This stuff gets tricky and it like what annoys me about it is like all the websites, the algorithms have figured out when everybody's going on vacation and so like I don't know if it works this way in Jersey but in Massachusetts like if you try to book out a boss in any of the school vacation weeks the the price of flights and that sort of things like triple.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like whatever, like, I mean, you do what you got to do, but like I, I'm like, it's the point where we went to London two years ago with the kids, right?
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: And oh my god, the reason we did it, and this is like crazy, but the reason we did it is we've been going to Florida for a few years in a row.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: And the price of going to Florida from Boston for the kids April vacation.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: and escalated to the point where it was not more expensive to go to London than it was to go to both.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm being dead serious.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what are we doing?
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't need to go to Marko Island, but I don't need to go to Marko Island for the fifth time.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to London.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's just the annoyance of getting closed
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the analytics, the analysts who, you know, the analytics people who have like plugged these into websites and the websites figure out when everybody's traveling and then they, like, there's automated systems that blow them, I actually, this is like the most messed up stuff ever because like so.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: friend of mine on here in town and actual friend of mine here in town gave me the uh... gave me the the heads up like you should use incognito mode on your browser looking travel and i was like why and he's like well these websites have gotten so smart now that like if you go in and you book of and you search for a flight right the website will recognize oh he needs to be in this city on this day
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: and so then it will basically take that into account with your IP.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, right?
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then every time you go back, the price will jack up.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: So if there's any sort of price reduction, you won't see it because you were already searching for that flight.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: So it knows that you need to be in this city up for this period of time.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's going to hold you to that price, whereas like if somebody
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: then for them, the price might be reduced.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like, go in cognito mode and you get around.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: How messed up is that you have to do that?
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's insane.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's insane.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, evil shit, ever.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, it is like, what is wrong with,
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: I swear to God, like, the more I hear about this, the more someone, like, like, a few Harvard business school, you know what I mean?
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's what all this stuff is.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, it kills me.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing our 10 year anniversary trip, and I booked, we're flying into one part of a state, and then we're flying out of another part of a state.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: And so I booked the flying in parks.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was really cheap.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was like 75 bucks ticket.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to another place.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to go to the library to book out the flying out the place because they know based on the hotels that I booked along the way and stuff.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: They know where I got to fly out.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so that flight is going to be more expensive, unless I book it somewhere else, which is just like,
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's just ridiculous.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's insane.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like I remember at one point.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: So Emily's parents live in Western Mass.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: And so we're there at, where they were at, which is near Springfield, is like a 25-minute ride to the Hartford Airport, right?
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because Hartford and Springfield Mass are right next to each other.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: So one year, because the algorithm had figured out, it's Massachusetts vacation week.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: like it was blast the prices to fly into Florida.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: We wound up spending, I think it was $225 a ticket to go, we spent the night at her parents' house and then flew out in the morning at a Hartford, right?
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was like $225 a ticket.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: If we have flown out of Boston the same day, it was $1,100 a ticket.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, like you jackasses, you know what I mean, like it's just, it's like and and they'll say like well that's just business it's like at some point like taking advantage of people like it's to the point here I don't know if you guys have had this bill like there are families here that will that will do their vacations on off weeks because it's like it's like not affordable to go to the fiscal vacation week.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: Um, it's really, I mean, it's like a really crappy way to do business, you know what I mean?
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's just, I don't know, I, and it's also some CEOs son can have a private jet.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: So he doesn't have to bug him about using his own, you know, don't get me started on that by the way.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I'm going to take the last pick here and I'm going to be like this is the same thing that's happening with tickets by the way, this is a football podcast.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: I know it's the exact same thing that's happening with tickets.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to wrap it up here, but this is like Chris Ballard and having Tyler Warren fall to you with with with no with no effort, like one of the best players in draft just plop right in your lap.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: being the chauffeur.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: I love being the chauffeur because one of my kids now is old enough that we can play new kinds of music and talk about different kinds of music and we can expose her to different kinds of music, which I love, one of my favorite things to do.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: I also just like like today we are driving my son and his body to school and um
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: We just got some new like all weather tires put on the minivan, so I I look back and I was like there's puddles everywhere right so I was like and they're like five so it was like hey you guys want to rip it up and go blast through some puddles on the way to school and the kids are like yelling or you know awesome like the best thing in the world so I I love being I if I had to.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: see this is weird like I wouldn't do it as a job like I guess the job would be a bus driver but then if you're a bus driver you can't mess around with the kids you can't blast your music like there's a lot of things you can't do so wouldn't be as fun but I like driving.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's also like for me like my kids obviously getting older now like I kind of feel like it gives me like a little bit of a window and like the relationships they're building to which is
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: all that stuff, like I just, you know, like it's something I'm like appreciating a little bit more, you know, not I actually like, you know, Steve might my oldest played.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think three, three of the cross-term is a long island last year, two in the island one in New Jersey, and you know, so we drove.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: to the two-on-long island we flew to New Jersey.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: And like just the time having in the car with him, like for five hours, whatever.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: Fairly and then going across was great, you know what I mean?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I know, I know, like he'd never admit it, but I know like deep down he appreciates it too.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_00]: So that part of it is good, and I know I can't do that in season, you know, so that part is good.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I do want to like say, like the spending thing is more that we wish about money a couple times there.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: To me, it's not even about the money anymore, right?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's about the principle.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where I'm really turning into my dad, right?
- 38:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like my dad was always running really turning into my dad.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, I'm not letting you screw me.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm going to outsmart you.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to figure out a way around you trying to charge me however much for playing tickets.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm, you are not going to get over on me.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, it's a weird thing.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like, comes from when you are younger and you had to figure out a way to make it work.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's the of that sensibility still, right?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: On top of, I'm not letting that jack-ass get over on me.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: there was a legend there was something salt in or whatever that told them how they could fricking you know what I mean like I don't know anyway there's legendaries through my dad told about my grandfather once and he was like I'm buying this car for $5,000 and it was the base model so there was no no power windows no AC nothing and he and they had a special order for him because like nobody wanted that basic of a model.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so the guys like, okay, like it comes to 5,000 in 10 dollars and he was like what's the 10 dollars for and it was like it was something like Oh, well like the packaging or whatever the card.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_01]: He just goes now and he just left the card
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's one of the most valuable things my dad's handed out.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned the whole thing about having a guy.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: But the other thing is like having like being principled about it, it's like, I'm not like, you know, I'm not going to just like let you get over on me just because, you know what I mean, and I feel like there's a lot of people, the people who do or the reason why the prices are where they are, you know what I mean, the people who won't stand on principle are the ones that are allowing this to happen and
- 40:15[SPEAKER_00]: you know it's again like what it costs to take a take a family to a game now it's a result of like people like begrudgingly handing the money over you know or paying for that much through scalpers which they can now track you know like so it's uh yeah that's 40 minutes of a lot of bitching and uh look at that but but the big thing that I want anybody to take away from that is stand unprincipled
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: Don't let them get over on you.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: And be good to your spouse during the busy season.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: Because, well, and always, obviously, especially if you have really cool jobs like us and, and, you know,
- 40:58[SPEAKER_01]: you don't have to think about other stuff for a couple months out of the year.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: Really quickly before we go, just because I think there's been some tight shifts here in free agency Kyler Murray since the last time we talked has effectively been granted his release.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to play on the league minimum this year, right?
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Kyler Murray and Aaron Rogers went on Pat McAfee and did the thing where he's like, oh, I'm definitely going to make up my mind soon and then went on Pat McAfee and was like, oh, I don't know, you know, and now we'll be this for a month.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you see the quarterback dominoes falling now?
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think the Kyler was initially like, I think someone who
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's amazing how our perception changes overnight where it was like now hell no like that's not what I want to now this is still a guy with some of the healing I don't know this is why Kyla wanted to be cut right you want to be cut because.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: the landscape for people who don't understand it.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's the optics of it and there's been a time.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think there was a time when players would rather be traded than cut because the optics of being cut are the optics of being cut.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: But functionally, if you look at it, like he's due $36.8 million from the cardinals this year, they functionally, you know, got out of almost $20 million for next year by cutting him when they cut him.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: that 36.8 number is important because the only way the Cardinals don't pick up everything but the minimum is if somebody is willing to pay him more than that number, which isn't going to happen.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: So now he knows what he's making this year and he is attractive to teams because he's on the minimum, right?
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: And he can make this now as a result of that appear football decision.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: The whatever the largest number of suitors that we're going to be out there form they're all going to be out there form because he's on the minimum right and now he doesn't need to weigh well this is 5 million versus 10 million versus 15 million where do I go what do I do now he knows what his number is right so he can go and make this a pure football decision and so like I think the Vikings are the obvious one with him I know the Vikings have investigated different
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: Reclamation projects and something that they did obviously two years ago with Sam Darnell, something they think they can be successful at.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's something that you've studied going back into actually the regular season, they've looked at these things, you know?
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: Kyler to a, you know, Mac Jones, if they were able to trade for him, like those would be the names for the Vikings, I also think like there are a couple of other ones where, you know, like the jets, I think that one, you know, is a path to start, do you want to be there?
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think they actually have some.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: better offensive personnel than maybe people give them credit for two first round tackles.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: The number one receiver and Garrett Wilson, you know, breeze haul coming back on the franchise tag.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_00]: Frank Reich is a veteran play collar.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and then I think get into teams like Indianapolis and Atlanta where at the very least,
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: you will probably get starter reps the entire off season and it's like value in that too, right?
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like so this Daniel Jones make it back for the opener, does Michael Panics make it back for the opener.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably too early to tell on those two cases, but those injuries happen late enough in the season where you can at least say,
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for the spring and summer, I'm going to be getting a lot of starter reps.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, whether or not like I am the starter for the games that be in the year, like I'm going to be able to make an impression on smart offensive coaches, Kevin Stephansky and Atlanta, Shane Steiken and Indianapolis, and that's going to help me and I'm going to continue to develop.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think those are the teams that I would look at with Kyler.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: I always pegged him to the jets, but I think that the Vikings just, I mean, if that was effective, I mean, you can have the one the job, but like, I think if you're confident you can do that, then I mean, like, look at what they've got, you know, wouldn't you, and and I understand the jets thing to so many degrees, but wouldn't you,
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: Wouldn't you be more confident in going into Minnesota and having to compete for a job?
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: And kind of estimating your success there versus going to the jets and having it outright.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think like just the opportunity to play in big games on big stages is going to be there.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_00]: If the jets are where they've been the last few years, do you want to be part of a death march in November and December?
- 45:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I would be concerned about, where it's like a Minnesota there would be the opportunity to be playing in really relevant games down the stretch.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: That can do a lot to change the perception that other people have of you.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, whether it's to a or Kyler or Mac, which Mac, of course, would take a draft pick.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_00]: But whoever it is, like, I think with all of these guys, you're looking at, you know, like a real opportunity in Minnesota to flip your career the way Sam Donald did a couple of years ago.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Aaron Rodgers, I mean, is it Pittsburgh or nothing at this point?
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I will say to Aaron's credit, like I, I think, like,
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like he had, I think a little bit of a turn a couple of years ago where, you know, he was obsessed for a long time with like showing everybody what he was outside of football.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm more than a football player.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in the last few years, like he's been sort of seeking something else, which is like,
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: I want to like really enjoy what I have left.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to as long as I'm able to play this game at the highest level, you know, I really want to lean into being a football player.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I go into Pittsburgh in the first place of Peel Dam.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: Because he wasn't going to have to be the guy who turns everything around there.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you can go play football.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like his failure to find that like place with the jets and then a success in finding it in Pittsburgh, I think does create like a, at least a chance that he's going to come back and play again this year.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the, obviously, the guys coming in who are familiar faces and it's not just Mike McCarthy.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's camp in the, the line coach is a number of the support staff that Mike McCarthy's bringing with them.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, creates a comfort level where he can say, I really enjoy playing from my Tom on last year, but now even though Tom is not here anymore, there's something that's really comfortable for me.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to get a chance to enjoy playing football again.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I think if he has the desire to go through what it takes to play an entire NFL season, which shouldn't be underrated because it takes a lot.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just going up in September.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like the whole process of getting yourself in shape and keeping yourself in shape to play a full football season when you don't need to do that like he's set for life financially all that I think that'll be the question outside of the quarterback thing Albert I just want to close with like kind of a big picture thought here because I'm looking at the free agency and.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: just the player is available and I do think like, you know, I think this is going to be a robust free agency.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: And in the second question, well, you know, Tyler Lindembrom is going to set the record for APY for a center, which is going to be interesting, you know, and it's going to push that market up.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: little bit closer to your interior offensive linemen, and eventually your tackles too.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to be a big year for the center market, but also like Kenneth Walker's going to make a lot of money.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: Tyler Algier's going to make a lot of money.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: Alec Pierce is going to make a lot of money.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll put it to you this way.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_01]: With...
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: a bad draft class, and again, I mean, Brett Beach said at the other day 25 of their top 100, initial top 100 went back to school to take out an IL money.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, with a water down draft, and with the idea that like, you know,
- 48:59[SPEAKER_01]: You have to wait for these guys what you're getting may just not be what you want for a couple of reasons does that make free agency like all the more well the free agent class sucks to so like you think this free agent class sucks I think it's not good yeah I mean I think it's like I think it's just more at the point now where the salary cap is escalated
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: I get into an area where if you want to keep a guy, you can keep a guy.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: I like Alec Pierce.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: I like Alec Pierce for Buffalo.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: I like Alec Pierce for New England.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I know Tennessee and the Raiders are going to be on that one.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: San Francisco.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: When the Colts broke the huddle in the fall, where was Pierce in the pecking order of scale players?
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: You were worried about.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't know.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_01]: You go first.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean Taylor, Pitman, Warren.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: after that.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: So, and that's not to say he can't project to be more.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's 25.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: But like that's the guy we're talking about getting 25, 30 million dollars.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_00]: John Franklin Myers, really good player, right?
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and part of the reason is the same with Pierce.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like Pierce, it's hard for the Coles to pay him because they've already paid Pittman.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: They've already paid Taylor.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: But it's the same sort of thing with Franklin Myers where they've paid Zach Allen and Nick Benito and Jonathan Cooper along their defensive front.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, John Franklin Myers is going to cost over $20 million a year, you know?
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: So like I think there are some good players there that are going to be paid like they're great players, which is generally the way free agency works.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think the smart teams are going to look at this and say, what can we address in the draft, right?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: And where are the barren positions in the draft?
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Houston's a good example of that this week when they went and got David Montgomery.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: Part of that is I think an acknowledgement
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, once you get to pass the two Notre Dame guys and then running back class, there's not a ton there, you know, and it might be the fourth round before one of these guys goes, so once you get past and they're not going to have a shot at Jeremiah love, they're not drafting high enough.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: So then it's like, there's one guy at your dairy and price, and then if you don't get him, whatever doesn't work out with that, then are you like left and like you're hoping that a fourth or a fifth round pick.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: makes it, you know, so you trade for David Montgomery.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: So like I think like that piece of it is interesting, like I think the defensive tackle group in the draft is shaky, so you'll see the John Franklin Myers get pushed up.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_00]: The center crop isn't great in the draft, so you see Tyler Lindervom.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_00]: I know he's shooting for 25, I think he probably gets to like 22.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I'm just like looking at the different positions here.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so I think like it's going to be kind of related, right?
- 51:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so conversely, the receiver group is really deep in the draft.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: The edge group is really deep in the draft.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so like that could cause some teams to push away from the table if the bidding gets out of control.
- 52:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I think is much, and this has always been the case that the draft is always married up with free agency and the way teams are looking at it.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: like both crops are kind of thin at certain spots, you know, so you have to look okay, like is it deeper here and free agency that it is in the draft, like let's take care of this now.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: And so with the Texans, like a lot of people like, well why do they go out and get David Montgomery?
- 52:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think David Montgomery is going to cost him like 8 million bucks this year, right?
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: That could be half what Kenneth Walker who they would have been in on would have cost them, right?
- 52:38[SPEAKER_00]: So like let's just take care of it now and you know the price was high and I think it's fair to argue that but at least you have an idea of what you're getting in David Montgomery.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know and you pair him with Woody Marx and now that's not a need for you anymore in the draft.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you know like that's sort of where I'm at with a lot of these.
- 52:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just, I think, you know, certain positions are going to do well in part because the draft class isn't great.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think Kenneth Walker will do well.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think Travis Etsy and could get over 10 million a year.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned, you mentioned Tyler else year.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Rashad White, Rico Dattle, like those guys could do pretty well, you know, because teams are looking at the running back class and saying, well,
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if we're out of the range where we can get love, we're love probably goes in the top 10, like are we then in this, like a student area and price or a boss territory, it's an hard place to be?
- 53:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's my take on it.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess I'll push back a little bit and just say this.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like Tyler Lindervom has the ability, let's say he gets signed by someone like the bears, for example, right?
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: Who just wants to hold now, right?
- 53:47[SPEAKER_01]: We have a clear hold center after Dominion retired, right?
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: of changing the season.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_01]: Kyler Murray signing with the Vikings changes the NFL season.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_01]: Tray Hendrix in going.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: So you're saying sucks is the wrong word.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think sucks is because here, let me just go down a list, okay?
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: Tray Hendrix in going to the box.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: changes the outcome of the season to some degree.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: Kenneth Walker going to a contender changes the outcome of the season.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Chargers signing, I don't know.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's say Joel Betonio and Elijah Veritaquer.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: that turns them and does that not turn them into a superbowl contender?
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm just saying that there's a lot of good players.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 54:53[SPEAKER_00]: and that sounds like a lot, but same as with Pierce, he's sort of a, he's a young ascending player and you're not paying for what a guy was in the last couple of years.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: You're paying for what you think he can be.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_00]: So you look at that like one-dale Robinson.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think you can be more than what he was in with the giants, right?
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: Are you willing to pay $15 million to find out?
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: They're all those sorts of things where it's like, you know, you can group together like five players and maybe one will hit, the trick is gonna be knowing which one.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, which I think makes free agency even with guys who have track records a little bit more like the draft now, you know, like the the later rounds of the draft where it's like, How do you pick out the one guy of the five that are going to go in this round at that position that's going to make it well that's a skill.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, another one of Doth AOA, who had a great finish this season for the Chargers.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, like, do you think that is that him ascending or is that him just catching lightning in a bottle with a really good defense?
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just think that there are all those sorts of questions.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I think of my two rules here, okay, and like these are really, I think these are like these are the two things that I think and you've heard me say this before, but there are two rules here, like that I think the teams operate on that I really like that I've learned over the years one is why it's the guy free agent, right?
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: So like I explained it with here, so I explained it with John Franklin Myers, right?
- 56:20[SPEAKER_00]: Why is he a free agent?
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, like, here's the reasoning.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: If you can explain it, then great.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_00]: If there's not a great explanation other than the team was moving on, then buyer beware.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: So that's number one.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: Number two.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_00]: This is where I call the Alphan Harper principle, okay?
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like for those who don't know for our younger listeners for Connor, who is five when this happened, but Alden Harper was in a electric, downfield player and Norfolk turns off as in Dallas when they were winning championships.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: And he was the number two guy at his position,
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: opposite Michael Irvin, but really when they broke the huddle, he was what number four, right, probably behind Emmett, Irvin, and Nova Check, okay?
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, the buck and ears who are horrible at the time, they go out and sign them to a big contract.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was when they had Trent Delford, they just drafted Trent Delford here's our new number one receiver, Alvin Harper from the Dallas Cowboys.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Alvin Harper never did much of anything, and
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: That principle is be careful about projecting someone's number two into becoming your number one.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like be careful about a guy who's a complimentary past, Russia.
- 57:35[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's the guy you're building a defense what around.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_00]: But you heard we all about investing in the comp and the number two corner.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now you're
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: you're relying on him to travel with the number one receiver.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: Be careful the number two receiver that you're projecting to be number one, the focal point of your offense.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now coverage is going to be going towards him, rather than away from him.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a really important principle when you're considering all of these guys, because generally
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Julio Jones wasn't a free agent until he was in his thirties, right?
- 58:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, like, Miles Garrett is now going into his thirties and he, like, those guys don't make it there.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, there's that projection that you have to be really careful with, too.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, it's one of those things where John Franklin Myers is a good example of it, right?
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so, and this worked out with Milton Williams for the Patriots last year, but John Franklin Myers is another example of it where it's like, how much, like, he was a really good player for the last years and inside outside, like, defensive lineman.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_00]: But how much of that's a result of the offense is being more worried about Bonito and Allen and Cooper, you know?
- 58:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if John Franklin Myers ends up with the Titans, he's going to be fine, right, because Robert's all knows.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a story.
- 58:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, but if you go for the money, you just, you know, it's a property to, you know, I don't know.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this is like, I'm the NFL's target mark where it's like, I'm excited to see where Mike Evans goes.
