Transcript
- 0:00It's most things, Kenobi, we always have.
- 0:03The high ground Anakin. Hi everyone, welcome to another
- 0:19episode of Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and
- 0:23all things Star Wars. I'm your very sick host, Leanne.
- 0:28I'm your Not Very Steak host Lauren.
- 0:31I I have to say it folks, if you can't hear it in my voice, I am
- 0:35battling a pretty bad cold, so I apologize for the voice today.
- 0:41I've been a real trooper about it though.
- 0:43I mean, you even showed up to our watch party on Friday.
- 0:46Luckily that's fun off camera, but like still, that's a lot for
- 0:52what you've been dealing with, so thank you.
- 0:55You're welcome, we've both shown up sick to this thing before so.
- 0:59Yeah. Not the first time, and it won't
- 1:01be the last. It's.
- 1:03True. I'm excited about what we're
- 1:05going to talk about today, which I'm supposed to intro here.
- 1:09We are discussing the Hunt for Ben Solo, which is the Adam
- 1:15Driver driven plot for Star Wars to find Ben Solo.
- 1:21He's still alive. The whole movie concept that he
- 1:24came up with and was going to go forward and then Disney just
- 1:27took the banhammer and crushed it.
- 1:32And that doesn't mean it's dead just like Ben Solo.
- 1:35And that's why we're here to talk about it, because it is
- 1:38very much alive and well across the fandom.
- 1:41Yes, a part of me wonders if, like I know he said that because
- 1:47Disney has officially squashed it, he can finally talk about
- 1:49it. But also, maybe it was on
- 1:51purpose to get the fans all railed up because let's be
- 1:54honest people, the Railo folks, they are hardcore, hardcore.
- 2:01You offer some more Ben Solo. They will drool all over it and
- 2:05and like move mountains to get more.
- 2:08And I'm not even like a hardcore relo person.
- 2:11And I'm like, yes, I would watch that movie.
- 2:13That sounds entertaining. Yeah, I'm here for it.
- 2:16Number one, I trust Adam Driver 'cause he's an insanely talented
- 2:20individual and Ben Solo was easily the most engaging
- 2:25character of the sequel trilogy in my opinion.
- 2:27Yeah, and one of the least developed.
- 2:32Unfortunately. And.
- 2:34Not only that, like Han and Leia's offspring in this version
- 2:41of Star Wars, in the Canon version if you will, deserves
- 2:44better and deserves more and and and don't get me started.
- 2:50If he is quote very dead according to Disney, then please
- 2:56tell me why Qui Gon. I'm I'm going to get on the
- 3:00soapbox. Why is Qui Gon dead?
- 3:03But let's see which of the ones that have gotten stabbed by
- 3:07lightsabers have have died and come back or weren't even
- 3:10injured, didn't even die. I could go through a list of 10
- 3:13right now. That shit ain't right.
- 3:16Don't sit there and tell me. First of all, Palpatine has
- 3:19returned somehow. So I don't want to hear, I don't
- 3:22want to hear from Disney at this stage in the game that so and so
- 3:29is dead and he can't come back. Well, that's just simply not
- 3:31true. Ask Darth Maul.
- 3:33OK, I'm done. I'm done venting.
- 3:35I'm done ranting I think. That's that's the big crux of
- 3:38the argument for everybody, though, is the so the idea is
- 3:41that it would be after Rise of Skywalker, right?
- 3:44And it's kind of hunt for Ben Solo could be more metaphorical
- 3:50even than literal, where it's like searching for his
- 3:54redemption, his true self, whatever.
- 3:57And Disney's argument was that he's dead, he can't come back.
- 4:01But like they're they're maybe fearful because they went for it
- 4:07for Palpatine and the whole fandom laughed to the to their
- 4:13graves cause good God was that so stupid.
- 4:17Terrible. And it's become a joke.
- 4:18You know, like the worst line in Star Wars.
- 4:21Somehow. Palpatine's return.
- 4:23Yeah, but. It's already a motif, so you've
- 4:27established it. Why don't you bring back a
- 4:29character we actually want to see instead of wrinkly old scary
- 4:33Palpatine who's, you know, living in a cave underground?
- 4:37Bring back Ben Solo. I want to see that instead.
- 4:40Come on, read the room. Disney read The Room is very,
- 4:45very real. So the comic books.
- 4:47So all of this tie is the hunt for Ben Solo and Disney's excuse
- 4:51for Ben Solo's Daddy Can't Come Back.
- 4:53No OK, we have a lot of reasons why this doesn't work, Disney.
- 4:59But most recently, as of like a week ago, people have been
- 5:05talking about the hunt for Ben Solo in relation to the comic
- 5:08series that came out, the Legacy of Vader, which does open the
- 5:13topic of Ben Solo's return in the sense that Ben Solo is going
- 5:19to a plane of existence to try and reconnect with Vader.
- 5:23This is I haven't read these comics, so if I if I get a
- 5:26detail or two wrong, please forgive me.
- 5:29But from what I understood is that Charles Sulay, I believe
- 5:34that's how you pronounce his name, is the Lucasfilm creative
- 5:38consultant who was involved in this, this whole how do we bring
- 5:44Ben Solo back? And how do we rewrite it so that
- 5:47Disney accepts it? And it's through the evidence
- 5:50that's provided in these Vader comics that Ben Solo has to find
- 5:55Vader, not in the the World Between Worlds, which we could
- 5:59talk about that as well, but in this plane of like where the
- 6:04Jedi apparently become Force ghosts, which is not a thing
- 6:09that we've experienced or explored in full in the Star
- 6:14Wars fandom. But this comic book, which is I
- 6:17guess considered Canon at this point, paves a path for like
- 6:21Disney to use that. Interesting.
- 6:24But then that sparked an idea in me of like, well, didn't Disney
- 6:28explore this in the Ahsoka series when she.
- 6:31Yeah. Almost drowned and she met
- 6:34Anakin. Yeah.
- 6:37So again, if they were to go with Ben Solo quote dies OK, He
- 6:44disappears from the the earthly plane in Rise of Skywalker and
- 6:48goes to this same existence that Ahsoka did in the Ahsoka series.
- 6:54Think that is almost a direct platter?
- 6:58Here you go. Because it was Anakin struggling
- 7:02with Vader, or, as Ahsoka viewed him, struggling with his dark
- 7:06side in this plane. And here's Vader again, once,
- 7:10once again showing up in the same plane to Ben Solo, another
- 7:14protege. Yeah.
- 7:17It could work. It could work.
- 7:20They've they've dabbled with the World Between Worlds and while
- 7:25I'm not a huge fan of it, it could work in this existent in
- 7:29this example I don't think. He's World between Worlds is
- 7:33such a tricky area because they haven't quite defined it yet.
- 7:36They haven't. So they could do it, kind of use
- 7:40it, yeah, however they want. And Adam Driver's been talking
- 7:45about this project. I think in the article he said
- 7:49that like 2021, he had a conversation with Kathleen
- 7:52Kennedy. So when did the Ahsoka show come
- 7:55out with that concept of Ahsoka being in that in between liminal
- 8:00space? So did they because he pitched
- 8:06the idea. Filoni was part of the the group
- 8:10that heard his pitch, including Kathleen Kennedy.
- 8:12And then there was somebody else, and I can't remember them
- 8:14off the top of my head. Was it Casey?
- 8:18Carrie Beck, I think, is the other person.
- 8:20And obviously there's talk that Filoni is gonna maybe take over
- 8:25for Kennedy when she retires. And then if Disney squashes the
- 8:31idea, is it possible that Filoni absorbed it and put it in his
- 8:36own story because they knew they were not gonna use it for the
- 8:39Ben Solo story? Either way, whatever they've
- 8:44created in the interim, it makes room, I think, for this story.
- 8:50And I'm honestly, I'd rather watch that than some of the
- 8:54other concepts that they're working on right now.
- 8:57Because I think a lot of people feel this way too about the the
- 9:01sequel trilogy's. The Ben Solo's arc didn't really
- 9:06complete all the way. It felt like really abruptly cut
- 9:12off before completely resolved. And I remember in the theater
- 9:16watching the scene where he brings back Ray, she dies first,
- 9:23right? And then he brings her back and
- 9:26then he dies. It's like, why doesn't she just
- 9:29bring him back right away? Like they could just keep going
- 9:33back and forth and find a little in between balance and then they
- 9:36can both be mostly alive. They could be like us.
- 9:41We're both here, but only, you know, half of a person, and
- 9:44together we make one. Yeah, it's like Princess Bride,
- 9:49where he's only mostly dead. He's not all dead, just he's
- 9:53mostly dead. He's not all dead correct.
- 9:56He's. Slightly alive.
- 10:01I I just don't think Disney has a strong case so.
- 10:05Yeah. My question is, what was really
- 10:08in that script they didn't like? Was it too dark?
- 10:13Yeah, because they people have said the money is the argument.
- 10:16And according to Adam Driver's interview with The Associated
- 10:19Press, he said that they had discussed that Soderbergh and
- 10:23him and had a way of filming it that was cheaper than most of
- 10:26the other projects that they're working on.
- 10:29Even though they were gonna use practical sense and everything.
- 10:34Not, not so much because he was saying Empire Strikes Back was
- 10:37like his the bar, you know that he would set because that's one
- 10:41of his favorite movies. Or makes.
- 10:42Sense Star Star Wars movies and like the idea was to it sounded
- 10:49character driven as opposed to action, big animated sequences,
- 10:55you know, special effects sequences, stuff like that.
- 10:58Oh no please. We can't have character driven
- 11:02shows. We need a metaverse full of
- 11:07bombs and explosions and give me a break.
- 11:12I really think well, OK, so money.
- 11:18So again, for those who are in the know, have you checked the
- 11:26cost of fast passes lately at the Disney parks?
- 11:31Don't sit there and tell me it's money.
- 11:33Disney. Yeah.
- 11:35This is one of their parks. That's just, yeah #2 Rian
- 11:42Johnson has apparently thrown his voice into the, into the mix
- 11:46and said there is no amount of money he wouldn't, he wouldn't
- 11:51give or take or whatever to make this movie.
- 11:54Like, I literally think the quote was take my money now.
- 11:59Yeah, you and I have a very strong opinion about Rian
- 12:03Johnson's history in Star Wars. Yeah, because his his movies
- 12:10have a tendency to have not finished their arcs.
- 12:13And I've noticed this from well before he was a famous director,
- 12:18whereas Soderbergh, and I'm not saying Ryan Johnson's a bad
- 12:22director, his movies are beautiful.
- 12:24It's really just, I have an issue with the way he makes the
- 12:27story arcs. Soderbergh is kind of the
- 12:31opposite. He's always very character
- 12:34driven. It's it's usually got a touch of
- 12:37humor. It's it's very engaging.
- 12:40He did Erin Brockovich. He did Ocean's 11, the George
- 12:44Clooney 1. He did a movie with Adam Driver
- 12:47called Logan Lucky. Oh, everybody loves that movie.
- 12:50Right. And it's the kind of movie where
- 12:52you're like, what am I watching? And then by the end, you're like
- 12:54I, I can't look away. Right.
- 12:57I tried to watch it. I couldn't watch it.
- 12:59It was it was bad timing for me. But yeah, it's everyone has said
- 13:03they they love that movie that has have watched it in full.
- 13:06The first time I saw it I was kind of like I could take it or
- 13:09leave it. But I rewatched it recently and
- 13:11I found out what much more engaging and entertaining this
- 13:14time around. Maybe because I knew what was
- 13:15coming and I was like, ready for the story, but it's so goofy.
- 13:20And my family is from West Virginia, so it was just kind of
- 13:23not that part of West Virginia, but still it was we're actually
- 13:28up by the like the Pittsburgh, like you could fly into
- 13:32Pittsburgh to get into the part of West Virginia by my family.
- 13:35And so it's different, but it was the same.
- 13:38Different but the same. Yeah.
- 13:41Anyway, the point is, I would trust Soderbergh completely to
- 13:45make a movie that would at least entertain us at the very least
- 13:50and blow our minds that, you know, the largest expectation.
- 13:54If you look at any of I'm just scrolling right now, the the
- 14:01amount of news articles on this on this movie, we'll say yeah,
- 14:07it it's just it's like, you know.
- 14:12It's crazy. Where do I even begin?
- 14:15It's Star Wars. Ben Solo film campaign
- 14:19intensifies. Rian Johnson shares strong
- 14:22opinion on the hunt for Ben Solo The hunt for Ben Solo fan
- 14:26campaign launches Toys for Tots fundraiser.
- 14:28Fans pay for new banner to fly above Disney asking the studio
- 14:33to make the hunt for Ben Solo. I mean.
- 14:37Did you see the photo of that? It's real.
- 14:39There's a plane flying over Disney and I think it flew over
- 14:43right after their earnings report came out.
- 14:46Shit. Yeah.
- 14:48Well played. Well played.
- 14:49Yeah, this one here kills me. Star Wars fans demand the hunt
- 14:53for Ben Solo in viral stunt at Disney Studios.
- 14:57Like what? What are we doing out here,
- 15:00folks? Oh my gosh, I know there's a
- 15:04Change.org petition campaign. I checked it has over 6000
- 15:09signatures already. Wow.
- 15:12It's just what people are willing to do.
- 15:14If Adam Driver was in any doubt of how loved he is and his
- 15:18character, let that doubt be removed.
- 15:22People are going crazy. He really brought something that
- 15:27I wanted more of in the third installment, the third sequel,
- 15:31The Rise of Sky. I really did.
- 15:33I really did. Those final moments of him when
- 15:37he gets to Hexagal and is like rushing to Rey are some of the
- 15:42finest moments of that character's entire story.
- 15:45And it was maybe 10 minutes of the entire trilogy.
- 15:48It made me. It was when we really got to see
- 15:51Han Solo's son, truly. There is even a way of telling
- 15:57this story where he is dead. Yeah, yes.
- 16:01So he could be in the world between worlds or like
- 16:05transitioning through a liminal space into force Ghostam.
- 16:10And it could be that whole idea of the afterlife where you
- 16:14relive your life moments. You know, there's that, that
- 16:17concept that's that's in the spiritual world that you have to
- 16:21face some of your history before you can transition into the the
- 16:28afterlife, so to speak. And wouldn't that be a great way
- 16:33to answer all the questions that folks had with like, how did
- 16:36Darth Vader end up a forest ghost, the forest ghost Anakin
- 16:40Skywalker at the end of Return of the Jedi?
- 16:43And if this is about Ben Solo examining, you know, Anakin or,
- 16:51or Vader's path in the same manner, it it could really, not
- 16:55that I'm saying we have to bring back Hayden again for like a
- 16:57full movie, but like, we could have moments where that's
- 17:01explored a little bit through Ben Solo's eyes.
- 17:04And it would answer a slew of questions that people still have
- 17:08for Return of the Jedi. Yes, and there's great
- 17:12opportunity to show how did Kylo Ren find Vader's helmet?
- 17:17You know, how did he change into Ben Solo Where?
- 17:22Because we didn't see that scene, we saw where he was with
- 17:25Rey and she healed him and then she leaves him and he has that
- 17:29moment, I guess, with Han. But still, it's like there's
- 17:31little in in between scenes that would be really interesting to
- 17:36see. How did he get connected with
- 17:39the Knights of Ren? That's the other thing, they
- 17:42never really answered that question.
- 17:44We never got the full Knights of Ren story at all.
- 17:49Yeah, and Snoke and all of this stuff, there's a lot missing
- 17:53that is inferred, but you could actually, and you don't have to
- 17:58show a whole bunch of it, just little snippets of it to create
- 18:02his backlog that he'd be reliving or whatever.
- 18:05I just think it would be. There's ways to do it.
- 18:08So if Disney wants to argue that he's dead and can't come back?
- 18:11I'm not accepting that. I'm not either but like you
- 18:14could still tell the story with him dead.
- 18:17Totally, totally. It would be a whole different
- 18:21frontier for Star Wars, actually.
- 18:24To me, they just want to close the book and keep it closed,
- 18:28that they've made that known. Which is so funny because they
- 18:31fought so hard to kill the Skywalker Saga so that they
- 18:35could tell this new story with Ray and it's now they don't want
- 18:41to even tell that story anymore. It's just.
- 18:43It's crazy. It's very tiring to get invested
- 18:47as a fan. And then?
- 18:50Then have them just shut, shut it down, you know, and then
- 18:53spend all this money and effort into new areas that no one is
- 18:57invested in yet. We don't.
- 19:00We don't know this, don't really care yet.
- 19:03Yeah, yeah. Just cause Ryan Gosling's in a
- 19:06movie doesn't make me care. I like Ryan Gosling, he's great,
- 19:11but I don't care yet. I'll care later if it's good.
- 19:15But yeah. And sorry.
- 19:20It it does raise a question like you, you brought up did Adam
- 19:24drive or no saying something would help his case.
- 19:29He's no, he's a, he's no fool. Yeah.
- 19:32You know. He knows what's up.
- 19:35He's been to celebration. He has.
- 19:39He hated it, but he still went. I'm sure he's contractually
- 19:42obligated to go, but you you can't deny that people love him,
- 19:49and not just from Star Wars. Adam Driver is beloved for
- 19:53girls. It's where a lot of people first
- 19:55got. Into oh hell yes, that's where I
- 19:57first met him quote UN quote on screen.
- 20:01Oh what a mess he was in that show, but he played it so well.
- 20:04He was so well acted he's just so.
- 20:08He's like a fine tooth comb of an actor, you know?
- 20:12Yeah. He's just very precise with
- 20:14whatever he's trying to act and portray.
- 20:17He's very good at it. Isn't he?
- 20:19A method. He might be.
- 20:22That's a good question. For some reason that's in my
- 20:25brain, but so is a lot of Nyquil and Dayquil all mixed together,
- 20:30so I could be making that up. I don't remember if he, I
- 20:36wouldn't be surprised if he went to Strasbourg or if he went to
- 20:39Juilliard, but I don't. I don't know, actually.
- 20:42I've never looked. That's a good question.
- 20:45He's so damn good. He's from Indiana, not too far
- 20:49from where I live. OK, well there's a there's also
- 20:53an opinion out there that resurrecting Ben Solo would be
- 20:56another example of a Disney and Lucasfilm course correcting
- 21:00action. Yeah, but I wouldn't be upset.
- 21:09I wouldn't be upset only because if they did it properly then it
- 21:15would have a point. Whereas some of the other course
- 21:19correcting actions that they've done to bring back dead
- 21:22characters was just to force a story to happen or to force our
- 21:29like a fandom's hand in accepting A poorly written
- 21:33storyline. Yeah, I personally I feel like
- 21:38Star Wars is such a hot mess now with the way they tell stories
- 21:45and repurpose stuff that already exists.
- 21:48Who cares anymore? I mean the integrity is is
- 21:53diminished. Yes I absolutely agree and they
- 21:57made that pretty clear with with Andor and how they were
- 22:00recasting Rogue One, which is considered one of the best Star
- 22:05Wars movies by many people. It's very popular.
- 22:09But yes. I mean, and that wasn't it
- 22:12wasn't like weak storytelling. Andor is very beautifully
- 22:15written. I but after that, it's just kind
- 22:18of like, well, I'm not gonna get too invested in Canon anymore
- 22:23'cause it seems to be fluid. It's gonna change with every
- 22:27piece of material they put out. Totally.
- 22:30So, So who cares at this point? Like course correct as many
- 22:34times as you want. You're gonna change it again
- 22:37with the next piece that comes out.
- 22:38I don't know, that's maybe too cynical, but.
- 22:41No, it's realistic. I agree like when you say the
- 22:45integrity is diminished, I completely that's like the
- 22:48perfect way to say it. At this point, I no longer it's
- 22:52personal. Now you just kind of like hold
- 22:53on to the things you care about in your heart.
- 22:56And it's no longer what's the word I'm looking for?
- 23:01Sacred or, you know, protected within the actual Canon created
- 23:08by Lucasfilm. So I mean, this is what they
- 23:11wanted. They wanted to be able to open
- 23:13everything up and tell all kinds of stories.
- 23:16And so just, but what they're doing is telling 500 versions of
- 23:23The Mandalorian instead of actually branching out.
- 23:31We're just talking about Mandalorians now.
- 23:36There's a movie and there's another Ray movie, there's a
- 23:41James Mangold movie. There's like a lot of movies in
- 23:44the pipeline. What's another one?
- 23:48I'm, I'm just, I'm still stuck and bitter over Sabine taking an
- 23:52entire lightsaber to the stomach the same way that that Qui Gon
- 23:56did, but the Jedi Master died and this Mandalorian survived.
- 24:04I have, I have problems. So don't sit there and tell me
- 24:07Ben Solo's dead and we can't bring them back.
- 24:09No, that's not how that works anymore.
- 24:11Because of what you're doing, Disney, because of your doing.
- 24:17You are the ones who set this in motion.
- 24:19Not yes, not anybody else. The.
- 24:21Fans shit. You know, our, our patron Ben
- 24:26was telling me the other day that he was listening to a
- 24:28podcast that was interviewing Henry Gilroy, who is a writer
- 24:32from Rebels. And I don't think there's a
- 24:36relation to Tony Gilroy. I think Ben said that they
- 24:38weren't related even though they have the same last name.
- 24:42Anyone with the last name Gilroy is apparently a writer.
- 24:49But he was saying that he they had played with the idea of
- 24:52making Sabina Jedi in Rebels and they they shut the idea down
- 24:57because it wasn't gonna work. And then he was really, he was
- 25:01really surprised to see it show up at the Ahsoka show.
- 25:03So again, even when they make a decision, they change their mind
- 25:07on it. So why get all uptight about it
- 25:12now and hold hold fast against the the I, I You're right, it's
- 25:17got to be another reason for real.
- 25:19Unless they are just that hypocritical.
- 25:21But well, if I. Was Adam Driver and I sat in on
- 25:25that meeting, I would have rolled my eyes right in front of
- 25:27him because he is in the movie where they say somehow Palpatine
- 25:30returned. And I would gently remind them
- 25:34that they set this precedence and this this trend, if you
- 25:38will. Yeah.
- 25:39For allowing characters to get stabbed or thrown down
- 25:43electrical shafts or whatever. Whatever, you can still come
- 25:47back. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:50And it was that movie, or The Last Jedi, I can't remember,
- 25:53where Luke says no one's ever really gone.
- 25:56That was Last Jedi and Luke said that to Leia, which would be a
- 26:00nice tie in for the Ben Solo if Leia's own son was never really
- 26:04gone. Yeah.
- 26:07So you can bridge this, Disney, if you want to.
- 26:10You can do it. We believe in you.
- 26:13You can do it. If anyone has the resources to
- 26:17do it, it's you Disney. OK.
- 26:22Would would you like to see it? Would you like to see Adam
- 26:25Driver's movie take place? I I would, because I like you.
- 26:29I trust Adam Driver. He's got a lot of integrity and
- 26:32really cares about story and directors.
- 26:36He doesn't want to make big, flashy blockbusters.
- 26:40He not that he wouldn't. It's more that there's got to be
- 26:42something else that draws him to the project.
- 26:45Yeah. So I I would trust him to at the
- 26:47very least tell an entertaining story and at the most something
- 26:52really beautiful and kind of maybe even mind blowing that
- 26:57would tie into a larger idea of the force.
- 26:59Yeah, I would definitely go see it.
- 27:01Shut up and take my money. I'm with you.
- 27:06I was gonna say, what about you? Yep, I'm right there with you.
- 27:09I trust Adam Driver and to a larger extent Soderbergh for
- 27:14telling the story I think would be needed in this.
- 27:18In this case, at the risk of it being poorly done, I would still
- 27:24watch it just to see it because I think it would.
- 27:26There's more hope with this, with with those two and maybe
- 27:31another another duo writing it and acting it so.
- 27:37I feel like with them at the helm, it has great potential.
- 27:42Where it might fall apart is in executive production.
- 27:47The executive producers are the ones who finance the movie and
- 27:50have like the ultimate say in what they will and won't approve
- 27:53with their money. Which is why a lot of people
- 27:56like Diego Luna became an executive producer in Andor
- 27:59'cause they want to make decisions.
- 28:01So if Adam Driver and Soderbergh were EPS on the the movie, it
- 28:08has a better, yeah, it has a much better chance of holding
- 28:13that integrity all the way through.
- 28:15Same thing with Ewan. McGregor was an executive
- 28:17producer on Kenobi because he wanted to have influence over
- 28:20the story. It makes it makes sense.
- 28:23Actors get sick of being invested in a character and then
- 28:25having the character not do what they want it to do.
- 28:28No shit, we as a fandom are tired of it.
- 28:33Yeah. And we have the most money in
- 28:35it, we do. We're the reason that it it gets
- 28:39put into production. I mean, give it give or take,
- 28:43but without fans, there's no reason to keep making more.
- 28:47You know, it's really ultimately George Lucas made it because
- 28:50George Lucas loved it and it was his baby and his project and he
- 28:53didn't care. Of course you care if people see
- 28:55it because film is also a business, but I think he did it
- 29:00because he loves cinema. He loved making movies.
- 29:02That's the like root of it. But now it's a whole nother
- 29:06animal. You have fandom attached to it
- 29:09and it's definitely evolved into something more dependent on fan
- 29:15approval, which can be annoying or it can be a great benefit.
- 29:19I'm sure if you started a GoFundMe this movie would be
- 29:24financed like I've seen it with other movies so take.
- 29:31The next week alone a fast pass cost and donate it directly to
- 29:36the movie and you will have it funded in a week with bonus
- 29:41checks for the holiday to Adam Driver.
- 29:45That's how expensive fast pass are now, bitches.
- 29:49Oh my God, you're right. Anyway, will we ever find Ben
- 29:56Solo? I hope so.
- 29:59I hope so, too. Please.
- 30:01Yes. All right, everybody, tell us
- 30:08your thoughts. Would you like to see the movie
- 30:11Hunt for Ben Solo slash Hunt for Red October?
- 30:17I I'm sorry. This is every time I say it,
- 30:19that's what I think of. Me too.
- 30:20Sean Pottery should be in there somewhere.
- 30:25Sorry, I totally sidetracked myself.
- 30:30Tell us your thoughts, which you like Disney to green light this
- 30:32project. Would you go see it?
- 30:34Would you sign a petition? Would you support a GoFundMe?
- 30:40Tell us either on our social medias.
- 30:43You can leave comments on Spotify.
- 30:44You can e-mail us, just we'd love to hear from you.
- 30:49In our next episode, we're going to go back to The Clone Wars and
- 30:52talk about one of our favorite episodes.
- 30:56It's just a one. It's not an arc.
- 30:58It's just just one and done Bounty hunters, which is the
- 31:03mess of Obi Wan and Anakin wrecking the ship and Ahsoko
- 31:08listening to them argue. And then they go to the little
- 31:11Felicia town of Turtle people and help them defeat Hondo and
- 31:16the bounty hunters and chaos ensues.
- 31:19And we're here to talk about it because we love it and it's fun
- 31:21and Obi Wan looks good in the episode, so, you know.
- 31:25It ticks all the boxes. It hits them all, so join us on
- 31:30our next episode for some Clone Wars fun.
- 31:34In our last episode we discussed stupid Star Wars names and I
- 31:38have to say, we got so much feedback.
- 31:42It was hilarious. It was really funny.
- 31:46I'm so glad everyone liked it. Some people like confessing to
- 31:50names they didn't like, that they were kind of embarrassed
- 31:52that they didn't like because they're popular characters, and
- 31:55others mentioned names that I had totally forgotten about and
- 31:59weren't on my radar in that regard.
- 32:02That's why we love the comments. I know.
- 32:05It was really great. Our friend Z was informing me a
- 32:12bit about the the name Shizor. Whatever the name is now, I've
- 32:19forgotten how to pronounce it already.
- 32:22It's only been a few weeks that I've already forgotten.
- 32:25But she speaks Chinese and she was saying that she does think
- 32:28it's probably based on the Chinese word with the XI is very
- 32:34Chinese in. Yes.
- 32:36Yeah, so she was saying it's hard to explain, but the H sound
- 32:40isn't so obvious, so it's not even really she.
- 32:42It's like a C. S.
- 32:44IC EE sound OK? She's guessing that that's the
- 32:49name choices because of a lot of Star Wars is inspired by Eastern
- 32:52Asian culture and elements that the author tried to emulate
- 32:56without thinking that non Chinese speakers have no clue
- 32:59how to pronounce it. Like Yep, that was me.
- 33:03This is a learning channel, yeah.
- 33:05Yeah. Thank you, Z.
- 33:07Yeah, I mean, when I was a teenager reading it, like I
- 33:10said, we're old enough that like, there was an Internet at
- 33:13my house, I couldn't look up how to pronounce it.
- 33:16So yeah, I just had no idea. Well, that was a beneficial
- 33:19explanation. Thank you.
- 33:21Yes and then she also gave me permission to share this.
- 33:24She doesn't like the name Obi Wan.
- 33:29Gasp. But she has a good explanation
- 33:32why she feels like it's mainly a mash up of Japanese Obi which
- 33:36I've actually talked about the belt in in Oh my God my brain is
- 33:40not working whatever. A belt in traditional sense is
- 33:44called an Obi I believe and the Chinese word Wan.
- 33:49So it just sounds like they're mixing 2 Asian languages
- 33:52together to get this stupid Obi Wan.
- 33:55That's very fair. That's fair.
- 33:59OK, listener F just the letter F says love your list, but you
- 34:03forgot Boba Fett can't take him seriously with that name.
- 34:07And Django as Django as well. It's true.
- 34:12When I hear Boba, I do think of like bubble tea.
- 34:14Like bubble tea? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:17You know what? That's a pretty obvious stupid
- 34:19one. It's right up there with with
- 34:21Porkins that I've completely forgot about.
- 34:24It's so obvious. But here's the question F does
- 34:28it rise into iconic territory because of the icon status of
- 34:33Boba Fett? Yeah, now I would have said yes
- 34:38if it was just what we got in the original trilogy, because I
- 34:41loved Boba Fett and now they've just expanded it into a whole
- 34:45nother. And we have Django to to tango
- 34:48with it. So.
- 34:52So I guess, yeah, it's pretty dumb.
- 34:54Yeah, it's up there. It's up there.
- 34:56And then Coffee Addicted 1988 said.
- 34:59What about some of the Wookie planet like Kashik?
- 35:01Now I don't hate the name, but why 33?
- 35:05Why's? That's a great question.
- 35:07Because it's Star Wars and it's stupid.
- 35:11That is a perfect. That is an.
- 35:13That is an absolutely perfect point made there.
- 35:16Why? 3 Why's?
- 35:26That's pretty good. Well thank you everybody for
- 35:29writing and we love your comments.
- 35:30This. They really make my day when
- 35:32they come in. They always manage to make me
- 35:34chuckle. She really does screenshot most
- 35:37of them and sends them to me and I had I get a chuckle too so
- 35:40thank. You.
