  here. Last time, we learned about King Solomon.

  How God gave him wisdom, and how he became richer

  and more powerful than any king on earth. But

  sadly, Solomon's heart turned away from the Lord,

  and he began to drift. And because Solomon turned
• 0:29
  away, God warned that the kingdom would not stay
• 0:33
  the same forever. Today, we'll hear what happens

  after Solomon dies. Will Israel stay united?

  Or will the kingdom break apart? Let's begin.

  After many years of ruling, King Solomon died.

  And Solomon's son became king. His name was Rehoboam.

  The people of Israel came to Rehoboam with an
• 1:13
  important request. They explained that Solomon
• 1:17
  had worked the people very hard. They asked Rehoboam
• 1:21
  to be kinder and lighten the heavy work. Rehoboam
• 1:25
  didn't answer right away. Instead, he decided
• 1:29
  to ask for advice. Rehoboam first spoke with
• 1:34
  the older men, leaders who had served his father
• 1:38
  Solomon. The older men advised him to speak kindly
• 1:42
  to the people. They explained that if he served
• 1:45
  the people well, the people would stay loyal
• 1:48
  to him. That was wise advice. But Rehoboam didn't
• 1:55
  like it. Rehoboam went to his younger friends,
• 1:58
  men who had grown up with him, and his friends
• 2:02
  gave him a very different kind of advice. They
• 2:06
  encouraged him to speak harshly. They told him
• 2:10
  to prove that he was stronger than his father.

  They wanted him to show power, not kindness.

  Rehoboam listened to the wrong advice. When he
• 2:22
  returned to the people, he answered them proudly
• 2:25
  and harshly. He made it clear that he would not
• 2:29
  lighten their burdens. Instead, he would make
• 2:33
  things even harder. And when the people heard
• 2:40
  this, they were shocked. They realized their
• 2:44
  new king did not care about them. The people
• 2:48
  of Israel became angry. They decided they would
• 2:52
  no longer follow Rehoboam as king. And just like
• 2:56
  that, the kingdom began to split. Only the tribe
• 3:00
  of Judah stayed with Rehoboam. But the other
• 3:05
  tribes chose a different leader, a man named
• 3:08
  Jeroboam. Now Israel was no longer one united
• 3:13
  kingdom. It became two kingdoms, Judah in the
• 3:17
  south, ruled by Rehoboam and Israel in the north,
• 3:22
  ruled by Jeroboam. This was a very sad moment
• 3:26
  in Israel's history. And it happened exactly
• 3:30
  the way God had warned. God had said that because
• 3:34
  Solomon turned away, the kingdom would be torn
• 3:38
  apart after him. And now it was happening. Rehoboam
• 3:43
  wanted to fight and take the kingdom back. But
• 3:47
  God sent a message through the prophet Shemaiah,
• 3:50
  warning him not to go to war against his brothers
• 3:54
  the Israelites. So Rehoboam stopped. But Jeroboam
• 3:59
  also made a terrible choice. Jeroboam was afraid
• 4:03
  that if the people went to Jerusalem to worship
• 4:06
  God, they might return to Rehoboam. So Jeroboam
• 4:11
  made two golden calves and placed them in different
• 4:15
  cities. He encouraged the people to worship those
• 4:19
  instead of worshiping the Lord in Jerusalem.

  This was a great sin. Jeroboam did not trust
• 4:27
  God. Instead of leading the people toward the
• 4:31
  Lord, he led them away. And that's how the kingdom
• 4:36
  split into two kingdoms. One was called Judah,
• 4:40
  and the other was called Israel. This story teaches
• 4:52
  us something very important. Rehoboam lost the
• 4:56
  kingdom because he listened to pride instead
• 4:59
  of wisdom. And Jeroboam led the people into sin

  because he was afraid and wanted control. Let's

  to listen to good advice because you wanted your
