- 0:28Hey, good morning from the chicken coop everybody.
- 0:30So today we are talking about stress reduction, which is
- 0:36intrinsically tied to being. Filled with more energy.
- 0:40When you reduce your stress, your energy levels go up.
- 0:43So as you can imagine, one of the byproducts of being very
- 0:47stressed out all the time for many people is that they get
- 0:51really tired. They just want to sleep.
- 0:53They want to go to bed, they want to hide out from the world,
- 0:55they want to put on jammies and just go to bed.
- 1:00And that's a natural response because BED is a place where
- 1:03we're supposed to go and feel completely safe because when you
- 1:06sleep, you're completely vulnerable, like anything can
- 1:09happen at that point in time. So you're in a state of complete
- 1:13trust and vulnerability. That's why it's so important for
- 1:15us to have this, this idea of stress reduction coming in when
- 1:21we sleep. So first and foremost, I'm going
- 1:24to say this. Stress reduction is personal for
- 1:27everybody. As to how to reduce it, I'm
- 1:30going to give you some ideas here, but you have to really
- 1:33know what your trigger points are.
- 1:35And the first part of this exercise is figuring out what
- 1:38stresses you out during the day so that you can say, how can I
- 1:43eliminate this now, years ago when my kids were little?
- 1:47I had this whole thing about getting out of the house in the
- 1:50morning because getting them to school, being on time, you know,
- 1:53if you're late for school and you're not in the carpool line
- 1:56at a certain time and they're even 2 minutes late to get to
- 1:59the room, the schools just have this whole thing about really
- 2:03taking it out on the child as well as the parents.
- 2:06And it's just awful. It's it's not.
- 2:08It's just not cool and it's not the way I wanted to spend my
- 2:11days. But getting the kids out of the
- 2:13house in the morning is a huge stressor for a lot of people.
- 2:16So I had to figure out how to eliminate that in my life.
- 2:20And one strategy that we had was, you know, my daughter who
- 2:24would change her mind on what she was going to wear 17 times,
- 2:27Would you have to pick your clothes the night before that
- 2:30and they are out and you may not change them.
- 2:32If you change them, then there's a you take a gem out of the gem
- 2:35jar because she would get gems in her jar that she could use as
- 2:38currency to buy things as a reward.
- 2:41But the gem jar was very important to her.
- 2:44It didn't work at all with my son, but it worked with my
- 2:46daughter. And she would put her clothes
- 2:49out, make sure it's all done because that was a big stressor
- 2:53with her, because she wanted to change her clothes all the time,
- 2:55and she always had her backpack ready and everything.
- 2:58I didn't even have to think about that.
- 2:59My son was like that. But that was the problem with
- 3:01him. He couldn't get his backpack
- 3:03together. He couldn't figure out where his
- 3:04stuff was. He was always running around in
- 3:06circles trying to figure things out.
- 3:08And I had to make sure that I was on point with him saying,
- 3:12hey, listen, here's what has to happen.
- 3:14You need to make sure that you've got your backpack put by
- 3:17the door. OK, Is it done?
- 3:19Is it done? Wear your shoes.
- 3:21He can be like the absent minded professor and setting yourself
- 3:26up like that is an important thing in your world.
- 3:29So if you can, start thinking about what are the buttons that
- 3:33push you. And you start saying, OK, I know
- 3:36that if I'm going to start my day off, well, I have got to go
- 3:39through and look, how are these other people tied into my
- 3:42stress? Because if we have families,
- 3:44they are tied into our stress. So we have to look at what can I
- 3:47do to push that away, What can I do to change that dynamic?
- 3:52Then look at yourself and say, well, what am I doing to
- 3:54contribute to this? Am I causing this because I'm
- 3:56pushing the snooze button? One, it's really not healthy.
- 4:00To push the snooze button because you're taking yourself
- 4:03into this place of like, OK, I'm awake and then now instead of
- 4:07getting right up when it goes off, which is your intention,
- 4:10you set the alarm for that time. Your intention is get up at that
- 4:13time. And you know this falls back
- 4:16into the rules of don't lie to yourself.
- 4:17If you really want to get up at a certain time, get up at that
- 4:19time. If you know that you're hitting
- 4:22the button with the intention of saying, OK, and for I wake up
- 4:25and then for 10 minutes I'm going to lay here and meditate
- 4:27and then I'm going to get up, Great, That's fine.
- 4:30But make sure you stay aligned with the intention so that you
- 4:32don't add stress to your morning, because then you're
- 4:35lying to yourself before you even get your butt out of bed.
- 4:38Also, think about what you're doing in yourself to not be
- 4:43prepared before you go to bed. There's so much of the stress in
- 4:47the day that takes place before you even go to bed.
- 4:51Are you not ready? Do you not know what you're
- 4:53going to wear? Do you not know what your
- 4:54outcomes are for the next day? Therefore you're struggling to
- 4:57figure out what am I even going to do?
- 4:59And then you get led by the phone, the emails and all the
- 5:02context of things that are coming at you blindly, the text
- 5:05messages. And then you're just not being
- 5:08thoughtful about what you're doing.
- 5:09You're being reactive and being in reaction is never healthy.
- 5:13Because it's it it it always causes stress because you feel
- 5:17like, oh, now the house is on fire and I got to go and my
- 5:20heads on fire I got to go. So think about this.
- 5:24Write down all the stress points, the buttons, all the
- 5:27things that are making you go off the rails, and then set a
- 5:31plan in place. Remember, this is this talk
- 5:35Today is supposed to help you initiate awareness on it so you
- 5:38can go fix it. Really.
- 5:40Look at the night before, Look at the morning and look at what
- 5:43am I doing so that when I go out into my day, I've already set
- 5:46myself up to be able to deal with the stress that may come.
- 5:50But I'm really making it a stress free time.
- 5:54OK my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 5:57tomorrow. Bye.
