- 0:00Speaker 1: Great feedback today and here somebody said the leader of
- 0:08Speaker 1: the band. I'm glad we have the clarification on that, said,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Dan Fogelberg's leader of the band really is a tribute
- 0:14Speaker 1: to his father, who was a high school band director
- 0:16Speaker 1: for many years and gave him the gift of music. Also,
- 0:18Speaker 1: the seventy four Cowboys Thanksgiving game was not televised locally
- 0:23Speaker 1: in Dallas because the game did not sell out. I
- 0:25Speaker 1: was eleven and vividly remember listening on radio and running
- 0:28Speaker 1: around the yard screening when they won. Yeah, the NFL
- 0:33Speaker 1: blackout rule. I had to get used that when I
- 0:34Speaker 1: first came out to Texas, Like, really it didn't sell out.
- 0:37Speaker 1: You hear all the stories about people had the antennas
- 0:40Speaker 1: on top of the roof to pull in Channel twelve
- 0:44Speaker 1: from Sherman Dennison or from Waco or witchdal Falls to
- 0:50Speaker 1: be able to watch the Cowboys if it was not
- 0:53Speaker 1: a sell out. Somebody else said, best Cowboys Thanksgiving Memory.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Two thousand and one against Miami the Dolphins, we're in
- 1:00Speaker 1: the throwback white uniforms. Mini dominated forty twenty one. Ricky
- 1:04Speaker 1: Williams had one hundred and four yards rushing four catches,
- 1:08Speaker 1: forty one yards, Chris Chambers three touchdown catches in the
- 1:12Speaker 1: late great Toby Keith was a really good halftime performance.
- 1:15Speaker 2: How do you like me now?
- 1:16Speaker 1: The next day I was back at Texas Stadium with
- 1:19Speaker 1: the high school playoff matchup featuring Highland Park against Hennis
- 1:23Speaker 1: sophomore Matthew Stafford against senior Graham Harrell. Highland Park won
- 1:28Speaker 1: in a high scoring game. It was yeah, great, great
- 1:32Speaker 1: stuff there. And then somebody else mentioned my favorite Thanksgiving memory.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I remember this.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It was the first one that was in the state
- 1:41Speaker 1: of Texas, nineteen seventy nine Battle of Texas. Houston Oilers
- 1:45Speaker 1: beat the Cowboys in Irving, back in the good old
- 1:48Speaker 1: days of bum Phillips, Dan Pastrina, Carl Mark, Rob Carpenter,
- 1:51Speaker 1: Billy White, Hues Johnson, Kenny Burrow, J. C. Wilson, Robert Brazil,
- 1:55Speaker 1: Elan Bethay, Tony Fritch, Gift Nilsen, Clipped Parsley, and of
- 2:00Speaker 1: course Earl Campbell, who he had a big touchdown run
- 2:02Speaker 1: in a game, because a victory is still cheritcism as
- 2:04Speaker 1: an Oilers fan in the lovely blue.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Days and wished they could have gone on forever.
- 2:10Speaker 1: By the way, see Powell also who he said a
- 2:14Speaker 1: friend of his sister in law's in college station saw
- 2:19Speaker 1: drone practice going on at Kyle Field today. Then he
- 2:22Speaker 1: said he really respects Vick and the way they go
- 2:24Speaker 1: at it, you know, hearing Vic Schaefer's comments on that,
- 2:27Speaker 1: let's hear from some long worn men's basketball players as well,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and that would include Kendall Weaver, Longhorn's guard and Kendall
- 2:40Speaker 1: asked about a variety the guys yesterday in that media
- 2:45Speaker 1: session were asked because it was really the first time
- 2:47Speaker 1: with a lot of guys were catching up with a
- 2:52Speaker 1: lot of the players. Were asked about the tournament in
- 2:57Speaker 1: New York and winning in New York and and how
- 3:00Speaker 1: important it was for building team chemistry and all that
- 3:05Speaker 1: other kind of stuff. And so Kendall was asked about
- 3:08Speaker 1: how great it was to have won that tournament in
- 3:10Speaker 1: New York.
- 3:11Speaker 3: It was great for our team. You know, we played
- 3:14Speaker 3: really two really good teams down there. It kind of
- 3:16Speaker 3: reminds me of the NCAA tournament where you get that
- 3:18Speaker 3: quick turnaround, you got another person out of the other team.
- 3:21Speaker 4: But I felt like it was good. It was a
- 3:22Speaker 4: good experience.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and being on the road did that help out
- 3:28Speaker 1: the team being able to close the gap and help
- 3:31Speaker 1: with the team bonding?
- 3:32Speaker 2: Uh?
- 3:33Speaker 3: It helps a lot, you know, knowing is Texas versus
- 3:35Speaker 3: everybody wherever we go. You know, everybody hates us. So
- 3:38Speaker 3: you know, we just got to stick together and pull
- 3:40Speaker 3: for one another.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Okay, all right? And how about his mindset?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Because there's times when you just see him fly in
- 3:45Speaker 1: from nowhere to make him play. Does he carry that
- 3:48Speaker 1: in his mind when he gets on the floor.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Uh, you know, I'm always always thinking of crash you know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: be aggressive, just trying to get an extra possession for
- 3:55Speaker 3: my team. You know, every possession matters in games like
- 3:57Speaker 3: that or in every game.
- 3:59Speaker 4: So just to be me, you know, go out there
- 4:02Speaker 4: and do my best. All right.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So the players, you haven't quite figured out the roles yet,
- 4:05Speaker 1: as they still trying to symbole all this, should they
- 4:08Speaker 1: follow that same type of mindset?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Go out make some plays and see how you can help.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a few crashers and give back guys,
- 4:16Speaker 3: you know, give back guys or when the shot goes up,
- 4:18Speaker 3: we want them like off the screen nobody can see them,
- 4:21Speaker 3: you know, for our transition defense.
- 4:22Speaker 4: But you know we have a.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Couple of guys like me, when the shot goes up,
- 4:25Speaker 3: you can just go down there and try to make
- 4:26Speaker 3: something happen.
- 4:27Speaker 1: One of those guys is Tremon Mark, who just rejoined
- 4:30Speaker 1: the team, and of course he'd have the the sore
- 4:32Speaker 1: ankle knock down a couple of threes in each game.
- 4:35Speaker 1: And he was asked about how the return of Tremont Mark,
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Arkansas transfer, has helped his team.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Uh, toomar, you know, he's a great leader in space,
- 4:43Speaker 3: the floy he's a defender, playmaker, he does it all really,
- 4:47Speaker 3: so I think he really helps us. You know, you know,
- 4:49Speaker 3: if I need a blow, Try needs a blow, he
- 4:51Speaker 3: can come in and fill those spots.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Uh.
- 4:55Speaker 1: If you saw the game against Saint Joe's, you saw
- 4:57Speaker 1: how physical it was. I mean bodies were hitting the
- 5:00Speaker 1: deck really in both games, but certainly in that Saint
- 5:02Speaker 1: Joe's game. And so Kenn Weavers asked if the physical
- 5:07Speaker 1: nature of that contest might help the team going forward,
- 5:10Speaker 1: especially once it get an SEC play.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Uh.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yeah, we know it was gonna be a very physical game.
- 5:15Speaker 3: You know, they crash. I think one of the players
- 5:17Speaker 3: had like thirteen offense rebounds or something, and we emphasized crashing,
- 5:21Speaker 3: but you know, we just got to hit them, and
- 5:23Speaker 3: I think it helps us a lot in sec play.
- 5:24Speaker 4: You know, we're gonna play big teams.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Bigger teams not are gonna go crash, and I feel
- 5:29Speaker 3: like Discott reporter, our messages crash and I mean, just got.
- 5:33Speaker 2: To hit them and that might help.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Now.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Arthur Caluma was asked about the team kind of gelling,
- 5:40Speaker 1: still trying to work on doing that we hear coach
- 5:42Speaker 1: Rodney Terry and other players talk about.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So he was asked, how will they know when they gelled?
- 5:47Speaker 5: From my experience, I feel like teams don't really start
- 5:50Speaker 5: playing their best basketball until January. And then once you
- 5:55Speaker 5: guys start playing your best basketball and you feel like,
- 5:57Speaker 5: you know, everybody knows the offense, knows their role and
- 6:00Speaker 5: what they got to do within the game in order
- 6:02Speaker 5: to be successful.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I feel like that's when you start playing your best basketball.
- 6:06Speaker 5: So just as far as everything else goes, I mean,
- 6:08Speaker 5: we're just in here and building our bond together as
- 6:11Speaker 5: a team.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Repractice and doesn't mean that the season is starting off
- 6:18Speaker 1: the way that he wants it to go.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Yeah, No, I mean smooth, I could say, yeah, yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 5: but For the most part, it's more like just being consistent.
- 6:30Speaker 5: You know, I've been really focused on staying in the gym,
- 6:33Speaker 5: consistently working on every single aspect of my game that
- 6:36Speaker 5: I can, and then obviously a lot of the team
- 6:39Speaker 5: stuff comes from practice. I've been trying to be a
- 6:41Speaker 5: very vocal leader, and I'm just enjoying my time. Man,
- 6:45Speaker 5: It's my last year of college basketball. I gotta live
- 6:48Speaker 5: it to the fullest.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah, this is so a little more specificity from Art
- 6:54Speaker 1: on what parts of his game he's still trying to
- 6:58Speaker 1: get better at continues to work.
- 7:00Speaker 5: They probably just my three point shot, and you know,
- 7:02Speaker 5: I haven't really taken a lot of threes. But once
- 7:05Speaker 5: they start giving it to me and I start feeling
- 7:07Speaker 5: clean looks, I'm never going to force it. I feel
- 7:09Speaker 5: like I'll be able to have a good shot at
- 7:12Speaker 5: my percentage being high all right there.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So there's some thoughts from both Kenda Weaver and Arthur Kaluma.
- 7:19Speaker 1: The next game for the Long Orange Friday Nights, an
- 7:21Speaker 1: eight o'clock tip at Moody Center night before the Texas
- 7:25Speaker 1: Texas A and M game.
- 7:26Speaker 2: A good good fit right in the middle.
- 7:28Speaker 1: If you want to come down to Moody Center and
- 7:30Speaker 1: watch his Texas team play, and we'll also broadcast before
- 7:34Speaker 1: you seven thirty year time eight.
- 7:35Speaker 2: O'clock tip here on the zone.
- 7:37Speaker 1: We'll be back to wrap up Hour number two here
- 7:38Speaker 1: on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the
