- 0:06Speaker 1: great to see you, Joe, Darren, Darren, Joe, it's been
- 0:08Speaker 1: a you said, you sound great. You look great, the
- 0:12Speaker 1: bright yellow and I love these colors. You're popping here.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I found the right backdrop for you.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You've found the great back Welcome to the debut show.
- 0:22Speaker 1: My my new co host on Friar Territory on the
- 0:24Speaker 1: Foul Territory Network, that is Darren Smith.
- 0:27Speaker 2: So what's going on? Darren?
- 0:29Speaker 3: Take it away, Joe, it's been too long.
- 0:31Speaker 2: How you been. I'm doing well, man, doing well. Nice
- 0:34Speaker 2: to be back in camp.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just like the radio show now, except you know,
- 0:37Speaker 3: you can cuss and not get us in trouble. So
- 0:39Speaker 3: that's all good.
- 0:40Speaker 2: There we go. Love that.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Like Marty said, you look good man, these spring training colors.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I gotta say it like seriously, like they are popping.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they look good.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Man, sure, absolutely, Actually chus it feel?
- 0:56Speaker 4: How do I feel? I feel pretty good man. You know,
- 1:01Speaker 4: I don't think I'm I'm back at one hundred percent.
- 1:04Speaker 4: I don't think I'm done with this rehab or I
- 1:08Speaker 4: don't consider myself done with the rehab yet I think
- 1:11Speaker 4: this is going to kinda kind of be an ongoing
- 1:13Speaker 4: thing for who knows how long. But you know, my
- 1:16Speaker 4: perspective on a lot of things is like, in the end,
- 1:19Speaker 4: I'm going to get where I want, and if I'm
- 1:20Speaker 4: not where I want, it's not the end. I'll just
- 1:22Speaker 4: kind of keep working until I feel like I'm in
- 1:23Speaker 4: a spot where I don't have to think about this anymore.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I don't have to put the same amount of time
- 1:28Speaker 4: and hours into getting myself ready, and I can kind
- 1:31Speaker 4: of just go out and perform. But I feel good
- 1:33Speaker 4: right now, balls coming out of my hand good. I
- 1:35Speaker 4: don't feel like I have, you know, many hesitations with
- 1:40Speaker 4: a lot of my stuff. I feel like it's, you know,
- 1:42Speaker 4: it's plain how I want it to play. I'm seeing
- 1:44Speaker 4: the metrics and the movement that i want to see.
- 1:46Speaker 4: So I feel like I'm in a good spot. For
- 1:49Speaker 4: February eighteenth, Joe, you threw it about if I'm true,
- 1:52Speaker 4: I'm for reason, dude, So I'm sorry if I'm chattering
- 1:55Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Joe, you threw you threw in a backfield. I think
- 1:58Speaker 1: on Monday, right, I think you and Michael King r
- 2:00Speaker 1: on the same field when all this on the chaos
- 2:02Speaker 1: was breaking at Padre's camp with Adripoler's extension. What were
- 2:06Speaker 1: you able to do and what was it like just
- 2:07Speaker 1: being back through on the mound again.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my first time facing hitters again in
- 2:14Speaker 4: sixteen months, I think something like that. So yeah, a
- 2:18Speaker 4: lot of excitement and I think, you know, for me,
- 2:20Speaker 4: it was mentally preparing myself for the excitement and the
- 2:24Speaker 4: adrenaline and making sure I kind of pulled the reins
- 2:27Speaker 4: back on myself and cut myself under control and just
- 2:29Speaker 4: use this as, if you know, an opportunity to get
- 2:31Speaker 4: some hitters in the box and see some reactions, see
- 2:33Speaker 4: some swings against my stuff, but not go out there
- 2:36Speaker 4: and try to be a hero and impress people in
- 2:38Speaker 4: my first time back, just mainly you know, check some
- 2:40Speaker 4: boxes off and you know, kind of take that next
- 2:43Speaker 4: step forward.
- 2:45Speaker 3: John, I'd like to follow up on that. I mean,
- 2:47Speaker 3: I think that we know physically, you know, how difficult
- 2:50Speaker 3: it must be to go through what you just went
- 2:52Speaker 3: through and to work your way back, and how rewarding
- 2:55Speaker 3: it must feel to be back where you should belong.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Can you talk to us a little bit about mental
- 3:00Speaker 3: challenge though of what you had to go through, because
- 3:03Speaker 3: I think the physical stuff, you know, we all sort
- 3:06Speaker 3: of have a grasp of it, but mentally, like, what
- 3:09Speaker 3: is that like to have to go through everything you
- 3:11Speaker 3: went through, even just to get back to this point
- 3:14Speaker 3: and then also to continue where you want to go?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I feel like I handled it pretty well.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I think the most important thing is, you know, the
- 3:22Speaker 4: perspective going into the surgery. You know, I was fortunate
- 3:26Speaker 4: to have like maybe a seven to ten day window
- 3:30Speaker 4: between the injury and the surgery, uh where I got
- 3:33Speaker 4: to kind of go through and experience all the emotions
- 3:36Speaker 4: and you know, kind of feel sorry for myself for
- 3:39Speaker 4: a minute, you know, and then pick myself back up
- 3:41Speaker 4: and look at what I had ahead of me, and
- 3:44Speaker 4: you know, start mentally preparing for that, knowing that's going
- 3:46Speaker 4: to be challenging. There's going to be times where I
- 3:48Speaker 4: don't feel great. There's going to be frustrating times where
- 3:51Speaker 4: I can't figure out what I need to fix to
- 3:53Speaker 4: get myself feeling better. But I think the preparation going
- 3:57Speaker 4: into that allowed me to you know, have a consistent,
- 4:00Speaker 4: you know, one track mindset of you know, just constantly
- 4:02Speaker 4: progressing and being okay with having a bad day and
- 4:06Speaker 4: not letting affect me mentally, I think was the most
- 4:08Speaker 4: important thing. Like physically, the days were very unpredictable. You know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: there was a good stretch of time where I just
- 4:14Speaker 4: couldn't understand why I'd wake up feeling amazing some days
- 4:17Speaker 4: and some days I couldn't grab the bill of my hat.
- 4:19Speaker 4: I was in so much pain. So it was frustrating,
- 4:22Speaker 4: it was difficult, But I think mentally I prepared myself
- 4:25Speaker 4: for all those things, and that allowed me to kind
- 4:27Speaker 4: of take it with a grain of salt and just
- 4:29Speaker 4: keep moving forward and you know, not not get hung
- 4:32Speaker 4: up too much on you know, the occasional bad days
- 4:34Speaker 4: or the bad stretches. So I think one of the
- 4:37Speaker 4: most difficult things is as the deadline for you know,
- 4:41Speaker 4: the end of last year coming up and the possibility
- 4:44Speaker 4: of maybe pitching in the postseason, you know, not feeling
- 4:48Speaker 4: great in that last month and a half leading into
- 4:50Speaker 4: that was starting to like wear on me a little
- 4:52Speaker 4: bit because you know, I knew where I needed to get,
- 4:54Speaker 4: and like as that date came closer and closer, it seemed,
- 4:58Speaker 4: you know, further and further away a physically, like it
- 5:01Speaker 4: just seemed unattainable, and you know, I would a little
- 5:05Speaker 4: bit of love to see us go further into playoffs,
- 5:07Speaker 4: but I think having us eliminated and not having the
- 5:10Speaker 4: opportunity to pitch was probably best for me, because you know,
- 5:13Speaker 4: if we make it to the CS and into the
- 5:15Speaker 4: World Series, I could very well see myself forcing my
- 5:17Speaker 4: way into those games and you know, maybe lying a
- 5:20Speaker 4: little bit about how I felt just to be a
- 5:21Speaker 4: part of it. So probably best.
- 5:24Speaker 2: For me that I didn't pitch.
- 5:25Speaker 4: But yeah, I was just wanting the results so bad
- 5:29Speaker 4: and not getting them was like the very difficult, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 4: frustrating part, especially with the work I was putting in. Man,
- 5:35Speaker 4: I was I was working and working and working and
- 5:37Speaker 4: like putting in doubles every day to make sure I
- 5:39Speaker 4: had a chance to pitch in the postseason, and it
- 5:41Speaker 4: just things weren't turning around how I wanted to, so frustrating.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm sorry to interrupt you there, but you're like, you're
- 5:48Speaker 1: the ultimate team guy. And when you knew that Michael King,
- 5:51Speaker 1: we didn't we didn't know his status, but he was
- 5:53Speaker 1: going to make it back for the postseason, and you,
- 5:54Speaker 1: Darvis was bulding something. Did you try to put more
- 5:57Speaker 1: pressure on yourself to come back because of what other
- 6:01Speaker 1: guys in your rotation were going through.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Not so much. Not so much for that reason. I
- 6:08Speaker 4: mean maybe a little bit of it, maybe, like subconsciously,
- 6:11Speaker 4: I felt like that was part of my job, was to,
- 6:13Speaker 4: you know, step up and fill that role, and I
- 6:15Speaker 4: think a lot of people were kind of counting on me.
- 6:16Speaker 4: And it's hard because I guess, back to your last question,
- 6:19Speaker 4: one of the hardest things is having people constantly ask you,
- 6:23Speaker 4: you know, how you feeling, are you going to be back?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Are you going to be ready?
- 6:26Speaker 4: And trying to answer that honestly, it was very hard
- 6:28Speaker 4: because if I was honest, I wasn't be like, hell, no,
- 6:30Speaker 4: I feel like shit, you know, but maybe I won't
- 6:33Speaker 4: feel like shit in a week. Maybe I will feel
- 6:35Speaker 4: better in a month, but just kind of lying to
- 6:37Speaker 4: people and be like, yeah, I feel good.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You know, I'm in a good spot.
- 6:39Speaker 4: You know, stuff's coming out, and my bullpens were good,
- 6:42Speaker 4: but it was the recovery, Like I wasn't bouncing back
- 6:44Speaker 4: from those feeling very good. So trying to be honest
- 6:47Speaker 4: with people was very difficult. But yeah, towards the end
- 6:51Speaker 4: of the stretch, it was more of a personal, a
- 6:52Speaker 4: personal thing that was, you know, eating at me. It's
- 6:55Speaker 4: like I'd set this goal out and I'd worked so
- 6:57Speaker 4: hard and I had gotten so close, and then that
- 6:59Speaker 4: last month and I took a left turn and wasn't
- 7:02Speaker 4: feeling as good, and I felt like all these plans
- 7:04Speaker 4: that I had and like this high spirit of like
- 7:07Speaker 4: I'm gonna have a chance to pitch, we're starting to
- 7:08Speaker 4: dwindle away. So I think it was more like the
- 7:12Speaker 4: selfishness of wanting to get in there and wanting to
- 7:14Speaker 4: be a part of it. That was the more the
- 7:17Speaker 4: contributing factor to me pushing.
- 7:20Speaker 5: The number one rated ticketing app is seat geek and
- 7:23Speaker 5: you can get ten percent off on seat geeks app
- 7:26Speaker 5: by using the code territory ten, So you should use it.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Aj Oh, I'm definitely going to use it for WBC
- 7:32Speaker 4: games and Jammi because I want to go to the
- 7:33Speaker 4: semifinals in the finals.
- 7:35Speaker 5: And they're going to be sold out.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Absolutely Spring training games for the people out there who
- 7:38Speaker 4: want to go to Spring training games.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Absolutely great idea. Best seats rated one through.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Ten, and I recently had to use seageek to buy
- 7:44Speaker 5: tickets to a Florida Gators basketball game that was sold out.
- 7:47Speaker 3: So I love the code Territory ten percent off and
- 7:50Speaker 3: the rating is the best.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Yes, he's talking about each ticket rated on a scale
- 7:53Speaker 5: of one to ten, so you know you're getting a
- 7:55Speaker 5: good deal. So look for the green dots. Green means good,
- 7:57Speaker 5: red means bad. And of course we have a code
- 8:00Speaker 5: for you, like I mentioned, it's Territory ten for ten
- 8:04Speaker 5: percent off your next set of tickets at se geek.
- 8:06Speaker 5: That's ten percent off any tickets with promo code t
- 8:09Speaker 5: E R R I O R Y one zero. Make
- 8:12Speaker 5: sure you click the link in the description and download
- 8:14Speaker 5: the app and have the code automatically added to your
- 8:16Speaker 5: accounts so you can use it later. Thank you to
- 8:20Speaker 5: seek geek.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And can I just ask a follow up on that, Joe,
- 8:23Speaker 3: just generally speaking, not specific to the injury, but just
- 8:25Speaker 3: like the mental side of the game, the mental side
- 8:29Speaker 3: of dealing with what comes with being.
- 8:31Speaker 2: A big leaguer.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Right, we all hear the all the great benefits of
- 8:34Speaker 3: travel and money and all that sort of stuff, and
- 8:36Speaker 3: it sounds amazing, but there is another side of it,
- 8:39Speaker 3: is that something over your career that you've worked on,
- 8:41Speaker 3: like do you do you do anything you know, as
- 8:43Speaker 3: much as you work physically to get yourself prepared for
- 8:45Speaker 3: these games, are there things that you've learned over the
- 8:47Speaker 3: span of your career that have helped prepare you mentally
- 8:50Speaker 3: for the job that you have.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I've worked with, you know, a number of different people
- 8:57Speaker 4: over my career. But one of the things I started
- 8:59Speaker 4: when when I was fourteen years old was a program
- 9:02Speaker 4: called Hefling, and this was a it's a form of
- 9:07Speaker 4: tempo karate that's less about the martial arts aspect and
- 9:12Speaker 4: more about the mindset aspect. This guy, Gus has the
- 9:16Speaker 4: short version of this is a guy named Gus Hefling,
- 9:19Speaker 4: goes over to China, lives there for nine ten years
- 9:23Speaker 4: and studies with the Sila Warriors, who were a group
- 9:27Speaker 4: of warriors that protected the Chinese emperor. And they used
- 9:30Speaker 4: to go through this training program every day that they
- 9:32Speaker 4: would do for forty five minutes before they got into
- 9:35Speaker 4: their martial arts and it was like a warm up
- 9:37Speaker 4: program for them. So there is a very physical aspect
- 9:40Speaker 4: to it, but the idea is that you're locking the
- 9:42Speaker 4: mind in and you're focusing on each individual movement you know,
- 9:46Speaker 4: as its own thing, and you know staying focused on
- 9:49Speaker 4: the tasket hand and not letting the outside or inside
- 9:51Speaker 4: interferences affect that tasket hand. And this is a program
- 9:55Speaker 4: I started doing at fourteen years old, and back then,
- 9:58Speaker 4: I think I saw it more as like a physical
- 10:00Speaker 4: training thing.
- 10:01Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I was just always pushing to, you know, to physically
- 10:03Speaker 4: get myself in good shape and you know, be the
- 10:05Speaker 4: best at it. And I didn't really understand what the
- 10:08Speaker 4: purpose of the workout was as I got older, and
- 10:10Speaker 4: I've continued to do this program, you know, since I
- 10:12Speaker 4: was fourteen. Now I'm understanding what the purpose of it
- 10:16Speaker 4: is and how you can challenge yourself mentally to stay
- 10:18Speaker 4: focused during this entire workout and not let your mind wander,
- 10:22Speaker 4: you know, not anticipate how long is this exercise going
- 10:24Speaker 4: to last, or what exercises next, or maybe I can
- 10:26Speaker 4: take a little break here because it's getting hard and
- 10:28Speaker 4: I know there's more to come. So it's really like
- 10:31Speaker 4: self awareness and finding out, you know, where you kind
- 10:34Speaker 4: of set traps for yourself and how you'll convince yourself
- 10:38Speaker 4: out of doing certain things. And it's ultimately like that
- 10:40Speaker 4: your mind will give up on yourself before your body
- 10:42Speaker 4: will give up. So that's kind of the basis of
- 10:47Speaker 4: everything that I do and the foundation of me as
- 10:48Speaker 4: an athlete. And then since then, I've worked with a
- 10:51Speaker 4: number of different breath coaches. You know, I did the
- 10:54Speaker 4: deep end fitness stuff underwater for a couple of years,
- 10:57Speaker 4: and all those things just you know, create new awarenesses
- 11:00Speaker 4: and develop different traits that you know, I've been able
- 11:04Speaker 4: to add into my game. But for me now, it's
- 11:07Speaker 4: kind of like just become part of me. So everything
- 11:09Speaker 4: that I do, I kind of take that mindset, whether
- 11:11Speaker 4: it's doing dishes, you know, washing the car. It's like
- 11:14Speaker 4: I got to try to take a strong, detailed aspect
- 11:17Speaker 4: and everything that I'm doing, and that stuff just kind
- 11:19Speaker 4: of becomes who you are and it translates into baseball
- 11:22Speaker 4: and everything that I do.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So are you this intense at everything that you approach
- 11:27Speaker 1: because it it seems like it. It seems like a
- 11:29Speaker 1: little bit. And by the way, I apologize to you
- 11:31Speaker 1: for the number of times I asked you last season, Hey, Joe,
- 11:34Speaker 1: what do you think? What do you think?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Most seasons?
- 11:36Speaker 1: No, I feel terrible, like, oh my gosh, harassing you.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Let me just get Marty. I'm feeling great, Marty.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah, A lot of its teammates too, though.
- 11:44Speaker 4: I mean, like the guys care for you, and as
- 11:46Speaker 4: a teammate, you're always you know, your conditioned to like
- 11:48Speaker 4: check in on your guys and then you know, show
- 11:50Speaker 4: that you care and that you're curious of where they're at.
- 11:52Speaker 4: But you know, it becomes more of a hassle than anything.
- 11:55Speaker 4: You know, it's I almost want people to just fuck
- 11:57Speaker 4: off and let me work, you know. But yeah, yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 4: it is kind of something that I am very intense
- 12:03Speaker 4: in a lot of things that I do, and I
- 12:04Speaker 4: try to take pride in everything I do, whether it's
- 12:06Speaker 4: fold and laundry like I said, or dishes or whatever.
- 12:08Speaker 4: And like the dish thing came up the other night. Uh,
- 12:11Speaker 4: my fiance tends to turn tends to look for the
- 12:14Speaker 4: most efficient and the quickest route to do things.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And I'll be pissed off.
- 12:19Speaker 4: If there's you know, grease left on a pan, or
- 12:22Speaker 4: there's you know, a piece of silverware that's not shining.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And she's a big she's big on the dishwasher. I'm
- 12:27Speaker 4: a big hand washer. So yeah, it's not it's not
- 12:31Speaker 4: a very serious thing, but I found myself, you know,
- 12:35Speaker 4: it's easier for me to stay in this mode than
- 12:37Speaker 4: it is to turn it on and turn it off,
- 12:38Speaker 4: you know.
- 12:39Speaker 2: So it's kind of just become who I am.
- 12:42Speaker 3: This This like Joe Musgrove, He's just like us. I mean,
- 12:46Speaker 3: it's like the same exact conversation I have at my
- 12:48Speaker 3: house about the dishes. But neither here nor there, Joe.
- 12:51Speaker 3: One are the you know for you coming back now
- 12:54Speaker 3: coming out? You know, And one of the things I'm
- 12:56Speaker 3: always also fascinated in is, you know, the trajectory of
- 12:59Speaker 3: a major league or especially a pitcher right early on
- 13:02Speaker 3: in your career. I don't know how accurate a site
- 13:03Speaker 3: like baseball Savona is, but you know, you were kind
- 13:06Speaker 3: of a different guy than than you were towards twenty
- 13:08Speaker 3: twenty four in terms of pitch election and percentages.
- 13:12Speaker 2: What are you expecting from yourself?
- 13:14Speaker 3: Do you did you use this time to say, hey,
- 13:16Speaker 3: maybe there's a couple of things that that you know,
- 13:18Speaker 3: like I can evolve on, or there are things that
- 13:20Speaker 3: I want to work on, or there might be a
- 13:21Speaker 3: new version of me. Not to share trade secrets, but
- 13:24Speaker 3: are there things that you know you would recognize it
- 13:26Speaker 3: maybe some things that we won't when we see you
- 13:28Speaker 3: back out there.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, you know, the usage might change a
- 13:32Speaker 4: little bit. You know, in the past, I'd always had
- 13:37Speaker 4: this concern of like overusing the break and ball one
- 13:41Speaker 4: because the break and balls had good action, but I
- 13:43Speaker 4: wasn't very consistent on like locating them, throwing them to
- 13:46Speaker 4: back doors, throwing them to you know, the front hip
- 13:49Speaker 4: a certain hitters. So it was more just like setting
- 13:52Speaker 4: up middle and ripping pitches and just relying on the
- 13:54Speaker 4: nastiness of the pitch, not necessarily a location or the
- 13:57Speaker 4: you know, the time of when I'm using them, and
- 14:00Speaker 4: for health reasons, like I just didn't think that I
- 14:02Speaker 4: could sit there and rip off slider after slider after
- 14:04Speaker 4: slider and not have any consequence from it. So always
- 14:08Speaker 4: like kind of health related and then you know, just
- 14:11Speaker 4: trust in the pitch that I didn't have back then.
- 14:14Speaker 4: And then in the end of my twenty twenty season
- 14:16Speaker 4: in Pittsburgh, you know, they talked about what a good
- 14:19Speaker 4: pitch my curve ball was and that I should be
- 14:21Speaker 4: using a little more. And I had just kind of
- 14:23Speaker 4: been middle of the road pitcher, you know, mid foors
- 14:26Speaker 4: vra just kind of very average. I threw a lot
- 14:29Speaker 4: of strikes, but you know, gave up some damage here
- 14:31Speaker 4: and there, so I made an adjustment in with a
- 14:34Speaker 4: sixty game season, I was like, this is a chance
- 14:36Speaker 4: to kind of go out there and pitch with a
- 14:37Speaker 4: heavier you know, break and ball percentage in a shorter
- 14:40Speaker 4: season where I'm not going to have to sustain this
- 14:42Speaker 4: for thirty two starts. I just got to put it
- 14:44Speaker 4: out there for twelve and I got really good results
- 14:47Speaker 4: from it. And throughout that process, I you know, changed
- 14:50Speaker 4: my arm motion a little bit. I shortened up my
- 14:52Speaker 4: arm action in the back a lot, which made me
- 14:53Speaker 4: more consistent and put my arm in a better position
- 14:55Speaker 4: to stay healthier.
- 14:58Speaker 2: And I got really good results.
- 14:59Speaker 4: So traded over here in twenty one and AJ had
- 15:03Speaker 4: a few ideas after talking to the pitching department about,
- 15:06Speaker 4: you know, using the sinker more to lefties and doing
- 15:10Speaker 4: things that were very outside of what I had ever done.
- 15:13Speaker 4: And I kind of fought back on it, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 4: I was like, I don't throw my sinker to lefties.
- 15:16Speaker 4: You know used to tell me to throw it. I
- 15:17Speaker 4: just that's not a pitch I've ever thrown. I'm not
- 15:19Speaker 4: comfortable with it. And I went out in spring and
- 15:21Speaker 4: I think I threw to Kansas City and gave up
- 15:24Speaker 4: like seven runs, and I said, well, that's what happens,
- 15:27Speaker 4: and I throw the sinker to lefties, you know, just
- 15:29Speaker 4: kind of like.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And I wanted it to work, you know, like I
- 15:32Speaker 2: wanted it to work. It just wasn't.
- 15:33Speaker 4: So I kind of went back to my way of pitching,
- 15:36Speaker 4: and I was like, you brought me here to be successful,
- 15:39Speaker 4: and this is how I know how to do it.
- 15:40Speaker 4: You know, I'm not shutting that down completely, but I
- 15:42Speaker 4: don't want to come in here and like completely lose
- 15:45Speaker 4: all the ground I had made up in the last
- 15:46Speaker 4: year with the break in balls and stuff. So I
- 15:49Speaker 4: kind of went back to my game plan and they
- 15:51Speaker 4: saw how it worked and how it played, and you know,
- 15:54Speaker 4: gave me a few adjustments on the sweeper. We started
- 15:56Speaker 4: throwing the sweeper a little more, and that just kind
- 15:59Speaker 4: of became who I was. So coming back this year,
- 16:02Speaker 4: I mean, off of surgery, I don't expect to be that,
- 16:05Speaker 4: you know, fifty percent of breaking ball guy anymore, at
- 16:08Speaker 4: least not.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Right out of the gates.
- 16:11Speaker 4: But I did work a lot on delivery and like
- 16:14Speaker 4: trying to trying to improve on my fastball. I feel
- 16:16Speaker 4: like I had good results with the fastball because I
- 16:19Speaker 4: didn't use it a ton, so when I did show it,
- 16:22Speaker 4: it was kind of a surprise pitch to people, and
- 16:24Speaker 4: I usually located really well so I can get it
- 16:26Speaker 4: to the spots I want. But the metrics of the
- 16:28Speaker 4: pitch and the performance of it wasn't great. I just
- 16:31Speaker 4: had decent results on it. So I put a lot
- 16:33Speaker 4: of work in on just getting a true fastball that
- 16:36Speaker 4: had a little more ride and carry and something that
- 16:38Speaker 4: I can use to the top and bottom of the zone.
- 16:41Speaker 4: And then you know, started really working on that synker
- 16:44Speaker 4: to the lefties, which is still going to be a
- 16:46Speaker 4: very sparingly used pitch, but something that I can use
- 16:49Speaker 4: on the inner half to lefties, you know, guys that
- 16:51Speaker 4: tend to lay off of the inner half, or if
- 16:54Speaker 4: I'm not getting guys to chase the breaking balls to
- 16:56Speaker 4: the back foot, it's something that I can use to
- 16:57Speaker 4: kind of re engage them, show them that, you know,
- 16:59Speaker 4: if it's arts in it's not always going to be
- 17:01Speaker 4: a ball. I can run something back over the plate
- 17:03Speaker 4: that'll be a strike and just kind of re engage
- 17:05Speaker 4: hitters in the at bad. So I'm not sure how
- 17:08Speaker 4: it's going to look. I think a lot of it's
- 17:09Speaker 4: going to be dictated on how I feel physically, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 4: what I'm capable of doing. If I feel capable to
- 17:14Speaker 4: throw the fifty percent break and ball, I'd love to
- 17:16Speaker 4: go back to that, but I just don't know if
- 17:18Speaker 4: that's going to be doable right out of the gates.
- 17:20Speaker 4: So it's going to be a lot of, you know,
- 17:22Speaker 4: just trial and error and seeing how the body responds.
- 17:25Speaker 1: You made it clear to us Joe at FanFest, that
- 17:27Speaker 1: you were going to be smart about about pushing yourself
- 17:30Speaker 1: and when you're going to come back, and that you
- 17:32Speaker 1: would maybe you would skip a start, but with the
- 17:34Speaker 1: whole goal, you want to be ready when the games
- 17:36Speaker 1: count September and October. So how how important has it
- 17:40Speaker 1: been for you to be honest with with Craig Stammon,
- 17:43Speaker 1: with Rubin Diebola and what to you?
- 17:46Speaker 2: What?
- 17:46Speaker 1: And I know you map beings out, you have an
- 17:48Speaker 1: idea when everything's going to happen. What are you envisioning
- 17:51Speaker 1: as the best way for you to proceed?
- 17:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean they it's a lot of credit to them.
- 17:58Speaker 4: They've really given me, putting a lot of trust in me.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I told Rubin, you know, and stamming at the start
- 18:07Speaker 4: of camp, I said, I want you to treat me
- 18:08Speaker 4: as normal as possible, and let me tell you when
- 18:11Speaker 4: I need a break or when I need a day,
- 18:13Speaker 4: and they were on board with that.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I mean, I feel like that is the best way.
- 18:16Speaker 4: If you have a picture that understands himself and you know,
- 18:18Speaker 4: as a hard worker, and it's doing the things that
- 18:20Speaker 4: he needs to do, I think you should give him
- 18:22Speaker 4: some trust to like, hey, I need a day and
- 18:24Speaker 4: like now's the time for it, or like I feel good,
- 18:26Speaker 4: let's keep pushing. So it's going to be just a
- 18:29Speaker 4: lot of back and forth for us, but yeah, ultimately
- 18:31Speaker 4: I want to be ready, you know when the games
- 18:33Speaker 4: start counting, you know, whether that's in April, you know,
- 18:37Speaker 4: first game of the season, end of March, or if
- 18:39Speaker 4: that's you know, a month into the season. The idea
- 18:41Speaker 4: of me making thirty two starts this year might not
- 18:44Speaker 4: be realistic. You know, one hundred and eighty innings might
- 18:46Speaker 4: not be realistic. So if that means I got to start,
- 18:49Speaker 4: you know, two three weeks into the season, I'm fine
- 18:51Speaker 4: with that. If I'm good on opening day and I
- 18:53Speaker 4: got to take a break, you know a little bit
- 18:54Speaker 4: before also great, I'm fine with that. It's just going
- 18:56Speaker 4: to be how am I going to get myself to
- 18:59Speaker 4: be sharp and feeling strong still when September October comes.
- 19:02Speaker 4: So I don't really know what that looks like yet,
- 19:04Speaker 4: but I got a few ideas of how we're going
- 19:06Speaker 4: to do it based on how I'm feeling at the time.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I know you're manager. Craig Stamman today talked about the
- 19:10Speaker 1: idea of a six man rotation, and by the way,
- 19:13Speaker 1: speaking of that six man rotation, there's a law in
- 19:15Speaker 1: of candidates for the fifth and that sixth spot. I
- 19:19Speaker 1: know what it's like for the media and the fans
- 19:21Speaker 1: watching the past five days. What was it like for
- 19:23Speaker 1: guys in that clubhouse seeing the whirlwind of movement from
- 19:27Speaker 1: aj Peller?
- 19:29Speaker 4: Yeah, exciting. I mean, you know, you know, the saying
- 19:31Speaker 4: like you can never have enough starting pitching. I think
- 19:36Speaker 4: everyone looks at the opening day rosters and you know,
- 19:38Speaker 4: you look at how strong everybody's lineups look and how
- 19:40Speaker 4: strong the rotations look, and you know, it's very rare
- 19:43Speaker 4: that those things stay consistent throughout the whole year. There's
- 19:46Speaker 4: constantly injuries, there's lack of performance, there's you know, family
- 19:51Speaker 4: issues that happen, people might have to step away for
- 19:53Speaker 4: a little bit. So I think everyone in here is
- 19:55Speaker 4: under the understanding that, hey, if it's not me right away,
- 19:57Speaker 4: it's going to be me at some point, and keep
- 20:00Speaker 4: myself ready. I think, you know, maybe for some of
- 20:03Speaker 4: the guys that are on the brink of making the rotation,
- 20:06Speaker 4: you know, the four or five guys, you know, could
- 20:09Speaker 4: be a little more stress for them. Now there's more
- 20:11Speaker 4: competition in camp, but I mean, I don't think more
- 20:13Speaker 4: groups that shives away from that.
- 20:14Speaker 2: You know, I think we're.
- 20:17Speaker 4: We're very clear on what's expected of you here, and
- 20:19Speaker 4: I think guys are going to compete the same way,
- 20:21Speaker 4: whether they have more competition or you know what we
- 20:23Speaker 4: started with when Spring started. So I love it though
- 20:26Speaker 4: we got you know, a lot of guys that have
- 20:28Speaker 4: been really good in the past and have had success,
- 20:30Speaker 4: and you know, maybe are coming off injuries. You look
- 20:32Speaker 4: at Walker and Herman, even Griff, you know, those guys
- 20:35Speaker 4: are all coming off some significant injuries. And Bullers had
- 20:39Speaker 4: a couple a couple of years back now, and you know,
- 20:41Speaker 4: Marquez one year back. But you know, knowing how I
- 20:44Speaker 4: feel coming off with Tommy John and you know, seeing
- 20:47Speaker 4: what they've gone through since being back in the games.
- 20:49Speaker 2: It's not easy.
- 20:50Speaker 4: So you know, sometimes it takes that two year two
- 20:54Speaker 4: and a half year mark until you start feeling like, God,
- 20:56Speaker 4: I feel like normal again, Like I can really let
- 20:57Speaker 4: the ball go. And a part of it is like
- 21:00Speaker 4: you've got to figure out how to throw again. You know,
- 21:01Speaker 4: the elbow, the structure your elbo is different, so nothing
- 21:04Speaker 4: moves how it used to move. The timing of your
- 21:06Speaker 4: delivery is off now because things aren't able to take
- 21:08Speaker 4: the same force that they were right away. So in
- 21:11Speaker 4: a sense, you kind of got to reteach yourself how
- 21:13Speaker 4: to pitch. And it's difficult, especially when you're used to
- 21:16Speaker 4: doing things a certain way for so long and now
- 21:19Speaker 4: everything changes and you've got to find a way to
- 21:20Speaker 4: still get out at the highest level at petition. So
- 21:26Speaker 4: and especially when you're in season, like time to city
- 21:30Speaker 4: and contemplate and over evaluate and think, because sometimes you
- 21:34Speaker 4: just got to get it and go and figure it
- 21:36Speaker 4: out on the fly as you're moving. So I think
- 21:39Speaker 4: those guys are are proven big leaguers that have had
- 21:42Speaker 4: a lot of success, and I think they can have
- 21:44Speaker 4: success again. I think with the staff we got here
- 21:46Speaker 4: and you know Ruben's team of guys, I think they'll
- 21:49Speaker 4: they'll fit right in.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I would Joe Musker of the Pottery fan have felt
- 21:53Speaker 3: about seeing Walker Bueller come walking in putting on the
- 21:56Speaker 3: brown and gold.
- 21:58Speaker 4: I think they gladly welcome it. Man, I would gladly
- 22:00Speaker 4: welcome it, you know. I think as a ballplayer, man like,
- 22:04Speaker 4: we love this game so much. I don't think it's
- 22:07Speaker 4: easier for a fan to say, how could you go
- 22:09Speaker 4: play for the other side. But as a ballplayer, you're
- 22:11Speaker 4: trying to make money, provide for your family, and you
- 22:12Speaker 4: don't want to walk away from the game. And if
- 22:14Speaker 4: that's the only opportunity you got, I think you take it,
- 22:18Speaker 4: you know.
- 22:18Speaker 2: And I think there's always a little more.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Animosity from the fan base towards each other than there
- 22:25Speaker 4: is from players in one another. I mean, there's a
- 22:27Speaker 4: there's a there's definitely a thing between us and the Dodgers.
- 22:30Speaker 4: You know, we don't care for them too much. They
- 22:31Speaker 4: don't care for us. But it's not this pure level
- 22:34Speaker 4: of hatred that you see from some of the fan base.
- 22:37Speaker 4: You know, we all understand we're playing the same game here.
- 22:39Speaker 4: We're all here for the same reason, and there is
- 22:43Speaker 4: a lot of crossover. So at some point you're going
- 22:45Speaker 4: to play with these guys in the same clubhouse. Sometimes
- 22:47Speaker 4: you play on the other team, so there's always.
- 22:50Speaker 2: A certain level of respect that you carry for one another.
- 22:52Speaker 4: So yeah, there's probably it's probably some good conversation on
- 22:56Speaker 4: Twitter right now, but for us in.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Here, we're welcome. We're welcome in with open arms. Good. Yeah,
- 23:02Speaker 2: that's what I was saying.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Put yourself back in the seats as a fan. Craig
- 23:06Speaker 3: Stamman obviously great teammate, great human being. You guys are
- 23:09Speaker 3: all on the record talking about your affection for him.
- 23:12Speaker 3: What's it been like with Craig Stamman as a manager.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been good. Our camp's been great so far.
- 23:18Speaker 4: I think Craig understands the flow of a camp and
- 23:21Speaker 4: how you know, some guys prepare really well in the offseason.
- 23:24Speaker 4: You know, they're five six, seven days a week prepping
- 23:27Speaker 4: and getting ready. Some guys a little bit less. But
- 23:29Speaker 4: going from you know, most guys are running a Monday
- 23:32Speaker 4: to Friday schedule and having the weekends off to coming
- 23:34Speaker 4: into spring and now it's every day for thirty days straight,
- 23:37Speaker 4: you know, leading into his one hundred and sixty two
- 23:39Speaker 4: game season. You know, it's very easy to wear your
- 23:42Speaker 4: guys out in spring and you know, pick up little
- 23:45Speaker 4: injuries just by being out on the cleats and being
- 23:47Speaker 4: on the field longer than you need to be. So
- 23:49Speaker 4: I think he's run a really good schedule here and
- 23:53Speaker 4: minimize some of the some of the time that we
- 23:55Speaker 4: spend on the field, which ultimately allows guys to invest
- 23:59Speaker 4: more in their individual work. I mean, you look at
- 24:01Speaker 4: our fields in the morning, there's every single field is
- 24:04Speaker 4: taken and everybody's out there getting early work in, which
- 24:06Speaker 4: is where you really get better as a player. You know,
- 24:09Speaker 4: the individual early work where it's just you and your
- 24:11Speaker 4: coaches and you're working on a specific part of your game.
- 24:14Speaker 4: And then you get together for the team fundamental and
- 24:16Speaker 4: you know, in our camp, those are ten minutes. You know,
- 24:19Speaker 4: it's real quick in and out, make sure we're all
- 24:21Speaker 4: working as a unit well together. But I've been part
- 24:24Speaker 4: of other camps where we spend thirty five forty minutes
- 24:26Speaker 4: on the on the group fundamental stuff, and then nobody
- 24:28Speaker 4: wants to go out and do early work. No one
- 24:30Speaker 4: wants to get their individual stuff because you're just beat
- 24:32Speaker 4: it's like a lot of stuff in the day. So
- 24:35Speaker 4: I think the schedule right now is allowing everybody to
- 24:37Speaker 4: get out there and get their individual work work on
- 24:39Speaker 4: the things that they specifically need work done, and then
- 24:42Speaker 4: we'll get together as a group and we'll put it
- 24:43Speaker 4: all together and make sure all the communications right and
- 24:46Speaker 4: the signaling is right, and then we get off the
- 24:48Speaker 4: field and we get in here and get our lifts
- 24:50Speaker 4: in and our training recovery. But you know, Craig's really
- 24:53Speaker 4: big on the book ends of the day. You know,
- 24:56Speaker 4: same with Rubin is like we prepare really really well,
- 24:59Speaker 4: and then when our day's over, we come in and
- 25:00Speaker 4: we do the recovery. We get all the you know,
- 25:02Speaker 4: the treatment and stuff we need so that we can
- 25:04Speaker 4: get back and do it again the next day. I
- 25:06Speaker 4: think those are the things that are extremely important and
- 25:08Speaker 4: spring to stay healthy and to get yourself ready is
- 25:11Speaker 4: to you know, focus on what you need to get
- 25:13Speaker 4: done and cut out some of the the extra work
- 25:17Speaker 4: of just standing in a huge group of sixty guys
- 25:19Speaker 4: and maybe getting one rep in the twenty five minute drill.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:22Speaker 4: So Craig's been great. I mean the speeches he's given us,
- 25:26Speaker 4: he seems comfortable in the role. He seems like he's
- 25:28Speaker 4: in charge of the room, and you know, he's really
- 25:31Speaker 4: putting a lot of trust in his staff to go
- 25:32Speaker 4: out there and do what he hired them to do.
- 25:36Speaker 5: We're going to get into all of the nitty gritty
- 25:38Speaker 5: details about why you should switch to Mint Mobile, but
- 25:41Speaker 5: I brought a special guest in for this one to

- 25:48Speaker 5: Eric Kratz, Can you give me the bullpen dugout phone?

- 25:56Speaker 2: pay fifteen bucks a month unlimited switched him in mobile?

- 26:10Speaker 6: get unlimited premium wireless for just fifteen bucks per month.

- 26:30Speaker 6: gigabytes may slow when network is busy. Capable device required, availability,
- 26:34Speaker 6: speed and coverage varies see mintmobile dot com.
- 26:37Speaker 1: He is a man comfortable in his own skin. That's
- 26:39Speaker 1: been just obvious immediately. I do want to ask you
- 26:43Speaker 1: about one of all the new guys, one guy in particular,
- 26:46Speaker 1: and that would be Nick Costianos. I know that AJ Prowler,
- 26:49Speaker 1: when he addressed the media about the signing why he
- 26:51Speaker 1: was comfortable, said that he did speak to some of
- 26:54Speaker 1: the leaders on this team before before he signed him.
- 26:57Speaker 1: And when I think of the leaders in the team,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I think of like you, what was that conversation like
- 27:01Speaker 1: and what what did you have to consider before you're
- 27:04Speaker 1: like yeah, why not?
- 27:06Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:06Speaker 4: I mean, I'm sure some of it is about, you know,
- 27:10Speaker 4: some of the stuff that's come out recently about Nick
- 27:12Speaker 4: and you know his issue in Philly with that Miami game.
- 27:15Speaker 4: But as a player, I don't think anybody in here
- 27:18Speaker 4: has an issue with that. You know, we know the
- 27:20Speaker 4: kind of player he is. You know, he speaks his mind.
- 27:24Speaker 4: He's very you know, very confident in what he believes in,
- 27:27Speaker 4: and you know he's a veteran of the game.
- 27:30Speaker 2: He's been around a long time. He's played on really
- 27:32Speaker 2: good teams.
- 27:32Speaker 4: He's played with a number of different you know, future
- 27:35Speaker 4: Hall of famers, and he's a guy that does things
- 27:39Speaker 4: the right way. You know, he prepares, he shows up,
- 27:41Speaker 4: he's ready to work, very serious about how he goes
- 27:43Speaker 4: about his work. So yeah, Aj is always cautious of,
- 27:48Speaker 4: you know, adding someone to a group, making sure he
- 27:52Speaker 4: checks in with guys and make sure it's someone that
- 27:53Speaker 4: we feel is going to fit in our group and
- 27:55Speaker 4: somebody that you know, we want on board, which I
- 27:58Speaker 4: think you don't see in every organization. You know a
- 28:01Speaker 4: lot of times it's just like here's your pieces, figure out,
- 28:03Speaker 4: make it work. We're really big on the culture of
- 28:06Speaker 4: the clubhouse and you know, the culture of the team.
- 28:09Speaker 4: So if somebody comes in and you know they're not
- 28:11Speaker 4: fitting that bill and they're not you know, getting on board.
- 28:14Speaker 2: Of what we got.
- 28:14Speaker 4: You know, our guys also have no problem saying, hey,
- 28:16Speaker 4: this is a guy that doesn't belong here. But Aj
- 28:20Speaker 4: is great and he always comes in and brings that
- 28:22Speaker 4: stuff to us, includes us in it, which I feel
- 28:24Speaker 4: like empowers the players and it makes you take a
- 28:26Speaker 4: little more responsibility and in your actions and what you say.
- 28:30Speaker 2: But uh, yeah, we love Nick over here. I'm glad
- 28:32Speaker 2: we got him.
- 28:34Speaker 3: So I just have one final one because I can
- 28:35Speaker 3: do this all day, and I know you probably have
- 28:37Speaker 3: better things to.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Do, but I appreciate it one thing, right all.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I appreciate something that AJ said recently. You're in a
- 28:46Speaker 3: division with the Dodgers, and everybody knows it, right and
- 28:49Speaker 3: and you know, common perception is everybody's just playing for
- 28:52Speaker 3: second place in the n West. And AJ's you know,
- 28:55Speaker 3: I don't think he says it just because he feels
- 28:57Speaker 3: like it's the right thing to say, you know, because like,
- 28:59Speaker 3: oh yeah, we're not there to just give up the
- 29:01Speaker 3: division for guys that are in that clubhouse. I mean,
- 29:04Speaker 3: do you do you view it as as such? Do
- 29:06Speaker 3: you think, like, listen, like we're not here to just
- 29:09Speaker 3: give in to them, you know, we're not. We're not
- 29:12Speaker 3: here to just let the Dodgers run away with the NS.
- 29:14Speaker 3: AJ said, like our goal is, you know, not to
- 29:17Speaker 3: just qualify for the playoffs. If that's what it is, fine, Well,
- 29:20Speaker 3: like we still, you know, are entering every single season
- 29:24Speaker 3: thinking about we want to be division champs. As unrealistic
- 29:27Speaker 3: as the outside public might think that is how do
- 29:29Speaker 3: you view.
- 29:29Speaker 6: All of that?
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I view it just like that.
- 29:33Speaker 4: You know, I think the guys in here compete, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 4: at the same level, regardless of the circumstances. So regardless
- 29:39Speaker 4: of how you know, powerful the other teams in our
- 29:41Speaker 4: division are, we don't have to play them one hundred
- 29:43Speaker 4: and sixty times a year. You know, We've got to
- 29:45Speaker 4: take care of business against the teams that we're supposed
- 29:47Speaker 4: to be and take care of business, you know, away
- 29:50Speaker 4: from those guys, knowing that when we go in and
- 29:52Speaker 4: play them, it's going to be a hard fight and
- 29:54Speaker 4: we don't expect to win, you know, ninety percent of
- 29:56Speaker 4: those games, you know, those best teams you looking for
- 29:59Speaker 4: a you know, you're looking to get out of there
- 30:02Speaker 4: and not have a negative, you know, negative record against
- 30:04Speaker 4: that team. But we feel like we're capable of competing
- 30:08Speaker 4: for this division just as much as the Dodgers are.
- 30:12Speaker 4: We understand and we respect how good they are as
- 30:14Speaker 4: a team and the firepower they have over there. But
- 30:17Speaker 4: it's all about how you put those pieces together, you know,
- 30:21Speaker 4: And like I said, you play them a handful of
- 30:23Speaker 4: times a year, So it's not like we're running up
- 30:25Speaker 4: against this juggernaut team every single game. You know, we
- 30:28Speaker 4: got to take care of our business so that at
- 30:30Speaker 4: the end of the game or at the end of
- 30:31Speaker 4: the season, we're right there with them in the running.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Joe, My last, my last question to you actually something
- 30:36Speaker 1: that that Dare and I were discussing before you join
- 30:38Speaker 1: us today, and that was the comments from you know,
- 30:40Speaker 1: from John Seidler. He was being asked about the idea
- 30:42Speaker 1: of the team being sold in relocation. Have you have
- 30:46Speaker 1: has he has John spoken to any of the players
- 30:48Speaker 1: in the clubhouse about the plan for this for this
- 30:51Speaker 1: team moving forward? Has that or has he not really
- 30:53Speaker 1: done that?
- 30:55Speaker 2: I mean, not a detailed conversation.
- 30:56Speaker 4: He spoke to us a couple of days ago, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 4: just kind of saying the same thing, like, I know
- 31:01Speaker 4: you guys are probably you know, hearing a lot of stuff,
- 31:03Speaker 4: and you know, I have a lot of questions about
- 31:05Speaker 4: where the team's going and the sale of the team.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Pretty much said, you know, if you guys have questions,
- 31:09Speaker 4: feel free to come find me, you know, give me
- 31:11Speaker 4: a call, tell you what I can tell you.
- 31:14Speaker 2: But I mean there's certain things that.
- 31:16Speaker 4: You know, we're not even allowed to hear or know,
- 31:18Speaker 4: you know, there's certain things that on the business side
- 31:20Speaker 4: they just don't share with anybody. And I understand that
- 31:23Speaker 4: I'm not looking for, you know, every answer that there
- 31:25Speaker 4: is to have.
- 31:26Speaker 2: But as players are, your.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Biggest concern obviously is the guy that buys the team
- 31:32Speaker 4: or the person that takes the team over.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Are they going to be interested in winning or making money?
- 31:37Speaker 2: You know?
- 31:37Speaker 4: And I feel like, whoever takes this team, I can't
- 31:39Speaker 4: imagine they'd come in and not want to keep pushing
- 31:41Speaker 4: in the right direction. You know, we've already committed a
- 31:43Speaker 4: lot of money to players on this team. They get
- 31:47Speaker 4: the city behind you more than you ever have in
- 31:49Speaker 4: San Diego, and it's a stadium that's filling out every
- 31:52Speaker 4: single night. So I find it very hard to believe
- 31:56Speaker 4: that whoever comes in it's going to backtrack and you know,
- 31:58Speaker 4: cut payroll and and start minimizing things. I feel like
- 32:02Speaker 4: the smart move, especially if you're spending what you're about
- 32:04Speaker 4: to spend on the padres, you know, is to double
- 32:06Speaker 4: down and keep adding and keep going for it. This is,
- 32:09Speaker 4: you know, the best window we got right now.
- 32:11Speaker 2: These players, we.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Are only getting older, our contracts are getting shorter. So yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 4: I would love to see whoever comes in, you know,
- 32:18Speaker 4: commit to winning here and continuing to add to this team.
- 32:22Speaker 1: I think you just booked for every single guy in
- 32:23Speaker 1: your clubhouse, as well as that fan base. If you're
- 32:25Speaker 1: that fan base, and you're right, Joe Joe Musgrove, you
- 32:28Speaker 1: are the absolute best. Ten years from now, when you're done,
- 32:31Speaker 1: when you're thinking about hanging it up, I really think
- 32:34Speaker 1: that you should be the new co host with Darren
- 32:36Speaker 1: on Friar Terriers, but you can even take over the
- 32:38Speaker 1: Foul Territory network. Man, you are meant, You're meant for this,
- 32:41Speaker 1: and you've got a great voice. You've got a great
- 32:43Speaker 1: voice too. That's key, It's key.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I appreciate that you guys.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Thank you, right, don't you don't want to follow in
- 32:48Speaker 3: staveds foot steps. You don't want to go down that
- 32:50Speaker 3: pathway And.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I've got to deal with enough stress on the plane.
- 32:55Speaker 4: I don't know if I want to be the one
- 32:56Speaker 4: answering questions all day.
- 32:58Speaker 3: Give me one maybe who's the next guy.
- 33:05Speaker 4: I think Michael King could be that guy. I think
- 33:09Speaker 4: Jake Croninworth could be that guy. Yeah, those two guys
- 33:14Speaker 4: kind of stick out to me. But dude, it's hard, man.
- 33:17Speaker 4: I mean, I think you have to have like a
- 33:18Speaker 4: passion to want to do this, and it's like it's
- 33:21Speaker 4: so much more than just making the right calls. Part
- 33:23Speaker 4: for me, part of it is the fucking paperwork. I
- 33:25Speaker 4: don't want to sit here and write reports all night.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Like.
- 33:27Speaker 4: I love the idea of helping guys out and I'll
- 33:29Speaker 4: share all the knowledge I got about pitching, but I
- 33:31Speaker 4: don't want to sit here every night and write reports
- 33:33Speaker 4: and you know, being meetings all day long.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I just don't want to do that. Ship So yeah, right.
- 33:41Speaker 4: I love the game, and you know, I can't imagine
- 33:43Speaker 4: my life without baseball in some aspect, but I just
- 33:47Speaker 4: don't know what it looks like.
- 33:48Speaker 2: And it's hard to even picture it until until.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I'm done, you know. And I don't have an option
- 33:52Speaker 4: as a player anymore. I think maybe some new things
- 33:54Speaker 4: will look like me, but yeah, right now that's not
- 33:57Speaker 4: even in my in my sights, co host, it is done.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Deal, co host, love it? Thanks, Sure, you're the best.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Take care of right, Thanks guy, Talk you soon.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Mhm.
