- 0:02Speaker 1: The Jaguars prepared to take on the top team in
- 0:04Speaker 1: the AFC. Who's gonna need to have a big game
- 0:06Speaker 1: on Sunday if they want to take down the Ravens.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Devin Lloyd, He's going to have to be able to
- 0:10Speaker 2: get out to the flat because Lamar Jackson loves to
- 0:13Speaker 2: throw those short little passes to say Flowers and he
- 0:15Speaker 2: gets open easily. And he's also gonna have to know
- 0:18Speaker 2: where Lamar Jackson is because if you lose sight of him,
- 0:21Speaker 2: you're in trouble.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna say, Calvin Ridley, you need a big play
- 0:24Speaker 3: from You need big plays from above the exits and
- 0:26Speaker 3: ose players in big games.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags Am presented by Field's Auto Group. I'm
- 0:48Speaker 1: Kenannie Stevens, Brian's exton John Osier, are with me today
- 0:51Speaker 1: as we get prepared for Sunday night football against the
- 0:54Speaker 1: Baltimore Ravens. Now Last week, the team went up against
- 0:57Speaker 1: one of the best defenses in the league, probably number
- 0:59Speaker 1: one and one A and one B. So big thing
- 1:02Speaker 1: number one this week is going to be one A
- 1:04Speaker 1: in one day because one BA would be the Ravens,
- 1:07Speaker 1: who are the second best technically but one of the
- 1:09Speaker 1: top defenses in the league, and they're going to be
- 1:11Speaker 1: a tough test for the Jaguars on Sunday night.
- 1:15Speaker 4: I mean, they just have a great defense all the
- 1:16Speaker 4: way around, not even not even just pass rush, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 4: on the back end, they're linebackers. I mean, they have
- 1:21Speaker 4: some of the best linebackers in football. You know, Kyle
- 1:25Speaker 4: Hamilton too is another guy who played in college and
- 1:27Speaker 4: I think he might have been hurt last year when
- 1:28Speaker 4: we played him. But that's a guy I'm somewhat familiar with.
- 1:31Speaker 4: He's a great player. So yeah, they got They just
- 1:35Speaker 4: have the really talented defense. But they're also really smart.
- 1:37Speaker 4: You know, they do a great job and playing you know,
- 1:41Speaker 4: sound and really on the same page. Everyone knows their
- 1:44Speaker 4: assignment and knows what they're doing. They play really fast.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I think that's the biggest thing is they know what
- 1:48Speaker 4: they're doing and they play fast and they're physical.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Brian and the Jags were able to score pretty readily
- 1:54Speaker 1: against the Browns and didn't win the game. But does
- 1:57Speaker 1: that mean that translates over to Baltimore is a completely
- 1:59Speaker 1: different situation.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I mean, they're different styles of defense. Here's what you
- 2:03Speaker 2: know about the Ravens. The Ravens leave the league with
- 2:05Speaker 2: forty nine sacks and their win percentage because they've got
- 2:08Speaker 2: guys with eleven, seven and a half and six sacks,
- 2:10Speaker 2: so the win percentage is about ten percent of the
- 2:12Speaker 2: time they're affecting the quarterback, it's going to create problems.
- 2:17Speaker 2: But if you protect decent enough right depending on who's
- 2:21Speaker 2: on the left side of the line, you give yourself
- 2:23Speaker 2: a chance to be able to score against the Ravens.
- 2:26Speaker 2: It's not like people don't score against these teams. It's
- 2:28Speaker 2: not like the great Ravens teams of the early two
- 2:30Speaker 2: thousands where you were lucky. Can remember one game where
- 2:32Speaker 2: the Jaguars got five field goals where you were lucky
- 2:35Speaker 2: to score at all. They could score, but they've got
- 2:37Speaker 2: to protect first.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, protection's key. I think it's particularly key because it's
- 2:43Speaker 3: hard to imagine the running game with Travis Dtn, with
- 2:47Speaker 3: the interior the offensive line struggling in that area, it's
- 2:49Speaker 3: hard to imagine the running game piling up one hundred
- 2:52Speaker 3: and twenty one hundred and thirty ball control yards. I
- 2:54Speaker 3: think the running game can get some big plays, some
- 2:57Speaker 3: pops and make them The Ravens respected to do it help,
- 3:01Speaker 3: but barring that you have to protect because there's gonna
- 3:04Speaker 3: be passing situations where they have to convert big third
- 3:06Speaker 3: downs to me third downs and big plays the way
- 3:09Speaker 3: you beat the Ravens because they're gonna get to you
- 3:10Speaker 3: a couple of times on their defense.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And I'll say this, John, You know, last week the
- 3:14Speaker 2: Jaguars had Blake Hans and Tyler Shatley on the left
- 3:16Speaker 2: side of their line, and they were facing the best
- 3:19Speaker 2: defensive pass rusher in football and a really good defensive front,
- 3:24Speaker 2: and they were all right, you know, they had twenty
- 3:25Speaker 2: seven points and they were, you know, within shouting distance
- 3:28Speaker 2: at the end of the game. So you'd like to
- 3:30Speaker 2: think that if Walker Little can play and he's practicing
- 3:32Speaker 2: a bit this week, and if Ezra Cleveland can get
- 3:34Speaker 2: out of the field and he's practicing a little bit
- 3:36Speaker 2: this week, that you give yourself a fighting chance at home.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Our second big thing this week, Eric today is to
- 3:42Speaker 1: say there's gonna be MVP again because on the other
- 3:44Speaker 1: side of the ball, the Ravens have one of the
- 3:46Speaker 1: best quarterbacks in the league, Lamar Jackson, impressive and a
- 3:48Speaker 1: comeback win last week. And you will also be a
- 3:52Speaker 1: tough matchup for the Jaguars defense.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Great football player, great quarterback.
- 3:56Speaker 6: You know.
- 3:56Speaker 5: One of the things he's doing, you know, this year,
- 3:58Speaker 5: I think, which was a point of MPs for them,
- 4:00Speaker 5: obviously throwing the ball a little bit more from the pocket.
- 4:02Speaker 5: And he's done a nice job for that, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 5: And it takes all eleven on defense. You just can't,
- 4:09Speaker 5: you know, you can't let your guard down with him obviously,
- 4:11Speaker 5: not only in the run game, but the pass game
- 4:13Speaker 5: as well. When you get an opportunity to tackle him,
- 4:16Speaker 5: you got to tackle him.
- 4:19Speaker 3: John.
- 4:19Speaker 1: We all know Lamar Jackson can run, but he's really
- 4:21Speaker 1: been staying in the pocket and throwing, especially now that
- 4:23Speaker 1: he's got wide receivers A Flowers, the rookie and also
- 4:26Speaker 1: Odell Beckham junior. It's impressive to see what he's been
- 4:28Speaker 1: able to do with his game now a couple of
- 4:30Speaker 1: years in.
- 4:31Speaker 3: Yeah, he has, he's much better there than he has been.
- 4:36Speaker 3: To me, what still makes him meget dangerous is that
- 4:41Speaker 3: he can get that in the passing game, but then
- 4:45Speaker 3: he can also kill you getting outside the pocket. And
- 4:47Speaker 3: I think where the Jaguars have a chance to stay
- 4:51Speaker 3: even against the Ravens. Look, the Ravens are one of
- 4:52Speaker 3: the best teams in the NFL. You're probably not gonna
- 4:55Speaker 3: shut them down and blow them out, but what gives
- 4:57Speaker 3: you a chance to maintain With the Ravens. Same thing
- 5:00Speaker 3: as last year with Lamar. The Jaguars defense is much
- 5:04Speaker 3: better than it was two or three years ago, with
- 5:06Speaker 3: mobile quarterbacks, keeping them in the pocket, not letting those
- 5:09Speaker 3: guys just kill you. Play after scramble after scramble. I
- 5:13Speaker 3: think the Jaguars, because of Josh Allen Trayvon, the linebackers
- 5:17Speaker 3: are very good. They can contain Lamar. They cannot let
- 5:21Speaker 3: him have the seventy yard run or the or the
- 5:24Speaker 3: multiple fifteen yard runs that just make it drive. I
- 5:27Speaker 3: think they match up okay there and Brian. That's gonna
- 5:30Speaker 3: give them a chance to hold serviance them, maintain and
- 5:35Speaker 3: not let that factor win the game. The Ravens defense
- 5:37Speaker 3: hears me as much as that. Yeah, the Ravens defense
- 5:39Speaker 3: is really good. Look, the Jaguars defense has to play
- 5:42Speaker 3: smart football. They have not gotten home in the last
- 5:44Speaker 3: two weeks.
- 5:45Speaker 6: A little bit of.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Pressure on Browning, But was he thirty two or thirty
- 5:48Speaker 2: seven two weeks ago on the Monday Night football and
- 5:50Speaker 2: then you got this guy here who he's not looking
- 5:54Speaker 2: to run. As you mentioned guy Todd Munkins offense gives
- 5:58Speaker 2: him more options if he stays in the pocket, and
- 6:00Speaker 2: you've seen him grow throughout the course of the year.
- 6:03Speaker 2: But you know, if your run past him, and we've
- 6:05Speaker 2: seen that from this Jaguars defense, a guy gets out
- 6:08Speaker 2: of his gap, runs too far, you know this guy's
- 6:10Speaker 2: going to go for twenty five yards and put himself
- 6:13Speaker 2: in scoring position like that. This is about playing smart.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And I don't think the Jaguars defense has had too
- 6:20Speaker 2: many bad games this year, but the last two weeks
- 6:22Speaker 2: have not been their best.
- 6:24Speaker 1: All Right, our final big thing today is going to
- 6:26Speaker 1: be growing up. Obviously, the Jaguars went on a great
- 6:28Speaker 1: run at the end of last season to a little
- 6:31Speaker 1: bit unexpectedly make the playoffs. This year, they're achieving at
- 6:34Speaker 1: a pace we probably predicted. But now they're on a
- 6:36Speaker 1: two game losing streak, and Doug Peterson says that they
- 6:39Speaker 1: can't really use that youth fixed these anymore.
- 6:42Speaker 5: Everybody's played rookies are no longer rookies. Is week fifteen.
- 6:47Speaker 5: You know, I can't I can't hide behind that anymore.
- 6:51Speaker 5: You know, I can't use that as an excuse anymore.
- 6:53Speaker 5: You know, every team's in Week fifteen, there's no more buys,
- 6:57Speaker 5: every rookie's played. I mean, it's it's it's just everybody
- 7:07Speaker 5: has to focus that much greater, Brian.
- 7:11Speaker 1: This is a young team, but they're not inexperienced at
- 7:14Speaker 1: this point. I think this is a point where Doug
- 7:16Speaker 1: wants to see that maturity level kind of step up
- 7:18Speaker 1: and see them kind of take hold of this opportunity,
- 7:21Speaker 1: especially on either Sunday Night football or the home stretch
- 7:23Speaker 1: as a whole.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Well, you decide how you wanted to play. Do you
- 7:25Speaker 2: wanted to play loose and free? I mean, let's be honest.
- 7:27Speaker 2: They're not in real contention for the number one overall
- 7:30Speaker 2: seed like they were two weeks ago when Cincinnati was here.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I mean, they could get there, but it's not the
- 7:35Speaker 2: most likely scenario. Or do you want them to play
- 7:38Speaker 2: desperate right like the Niners were on a three game
- 7:41Speaker 2: losing streak, you know, like the Browns were last week
- 7:44Speaker 2: where they played super hungry in front of their home
- 7:46Speaker 2: crowd because they understood that they were on the margins
- 7:49Speaker 2: of the playoffs, but they could find themselves behind the
- 7:52Speaker 2: eight ball in a very competitive AFC, you choose me myself.
- 7:57Speaker 2: I'd like to see them come out with a it's
- 8:00Speaker 2: so esoteric, John, but just a sense of desperation, like, Hey, look,
- 8:04Speaker 2: we haven't played our best football. We're on Sunday night
- 8:07Speaker 2: football in primetime, and we didn't play well last time.
- 8:11Speaker 2: So let's get out there and play good football against
- 8:13Speaker 2: the best team in the AFC. Let's be hungry to
- 8:16Speaker 2: show the rest of the country you know what we
- 8:18Speaker 2: are and not let them walk away thinking but we're not.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yeah, the Jaguars in the last few weeks, and I
- 8:25Speaker 3: would include this week, are in one of those crisis
- 8:28Speaker 3: points of the season. And when I say crisis, I
- 8:31Speaker 3: probably mean defining more than that. They're beat up. They
- 8:34Speaker 3: are in first place, but they've lost a couple of games.
- 8:38Speaker 3: They haven't been blown out in they just haven't quite
- 8:41Speaker 3: gotten there. And there's plenty of reasons for it, the injuries,
- 8:44Speaker 3: Trevor's ankle's mistakes. At some point during those stretches, really
- 8:49Speaker 3: good teams get one and sort of rite the ship.
- 8:52Speaker 3: And I think that's what Doug would like to see
- 8:54Speaker 3: this week. Hey, it's tough. The NFL is not easy.
- 8:58Speaker 3: You're playing a first place schedule this year, which means
- 9:00Speaker 3: you're playing not teams like the Ravens and the Niners
- 9:03Speaker 3: and the Chiefs instead of the other teams. At some point,
- 9:06Speaker 3: go get one of those late in the season that
- 9:09Speaker 3: puts you over the top where you're not necessarily favored
- 9:11Speaker 3: in the game. And it takes what Brian's talking about.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It takes that desperation, that intensity, maybe making a play
- 9:18Speaker 3: you didn't expect somehow finding a way to use that cliche.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I think that's what Doug would like to see this week,
- 9:23Speaker 3: and that's what he's talking about with maturity. You know,
- 9:25Speaker 3: a mature team, a playoff team, figures out a way
- 9:29Speaker 3: to somehow get this one even when people don't expect it.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I think you're right, John, Definitely a sense of urgency
- 9:34Speaker 1: the team's gonna need going into this game against the Ravens.
- 9:37Speaker 1: All right, Stay with us here on jags Am as
- 9:39Speaker 1: we go around the locker room. Here what everybody else
- 9:41Speaker 1: has to say about the Ravens matchup. Welcome back to
- 9:50Speaker 1: jag Zam, presented by Field's Auto Group, Jacksonville. You can
- 9:53Speaker 1: step up to luxury at Fieldsauto dot Com. Welcome back.
- 9:57Speaker 1: We're here in the Hyundai studios as we get ready
- 9:59Speaker 1: for Sunday Night Football two thousand and eight.
- 10:02Speaker 2: This last night, yeah, October fifth, two thousand and eight,
- 10:05Speaker 2: they played a game against the Steelers, and it was
- 10:07Speaker 2: John Madden's last Jaguars game, last game in Jacksonville. So
- 10:13Speaker 2: to be honest with you, I had to go back
- 10:14Speaker 2: and look it up. It wasn't the most memorable game,
- 10:17Speaker 2: although Rashee Mathis had it picked six early in the
- 10:20Speaker 2: game to give the Jaguars the leader for Ben Roethlisberger.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Rasheen who was a three time Pro Bowl corner, which
- 10:25Speaker 2: just always seemed to be the Steelers nemesis.
- 10:27Speaker 6: That guy that just always had Roethlisberger looking around and
- 10:30Speaker 6: where is he? Where is he?
- 10:31Speaker 2: But it was John Madden's last game, and I remember
- 10:33Speaker 2: having a conversation with him in the hallway about, you know,
- 10:36Speaker 2: the importance of this team starting to win because they
- 10:39Speaker 2: weren't much and knowing that Jacksonville really needed this team
- 10:43Speaker 2: to start to get some traction so that their future
- 10:45Speaker 2: would be secure, and he thought they would. So now
- 10:48Speaker 2: they are many many years I remember that conversation with him.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Nice man, he was right, all right, cool, let's talk
- 10:56Speaker 1: a little bit about what's been going on in the
- 10:58Speaker 1: locker room. We got down there yesterday, talked to of
- 11:00Speaker 1: the guys about, you know, whether they're hitting the panic
- 11:03Speaker 1: button right now. Evan Ingram had a very strong response
- 11:05Speaker 1: to that.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Just diversity.
- 11:08Speaker 7: That's what life is about, that's what this league is about.
- 11:11Speaker 7: And obviously we got the great We got the guys
- 11:13Speaker 7: in here to figure it out and respond and turn
- 11:15Speaker 7: this thing around. And you know, it's cool. We're sitting
- 11:18Speaker 7: at eight and five and we know we could be better.
- 11:20Speaker 7: So we're definitely gonna go out and try to respond
- 11:22Speaker 7: and get back at.
- 11:23Speaker 1: The way Colin, for sure, the first part of that
- 11:25Speaker 1: one was hell, no, it's not time to pan.
- 11:27Speaker 6: No, No, he was fired up here.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Toady had another conversation with him for radio pregame and
- 11:31Speaker 2: he said, look, those are lights are damn bright, and
- 11:34Speaker 2: everybody needs to respond. You know, we were talking about urgency.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Choose your words, that's a desperation. But he said, everybody
- 11:41Speaker 2: needs to respond to the challenge that we have an
- 11:44Speaker 2: end to each his own was his specific phrase. Everybody's
- 11:47Speaker 2: going to come to the game prepared in their own way,
- 11:51Speaker 2: feeling their own way, desperate, hungry, loose, and relaxed. Whatever
- 11:55Speaker 2: he says isn't about one common theme and everybody's on
- 11:58Speaker 2: the same wavelength. Is about everybody responding to the challenge
- 12:02Speaker 2: that we face in their own way.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the Jaguars have waited a long time to
- 12:10Speaker 3: be a contender, and contending in the NFL these days
- 12:14Speaker 3: is this. I mean last year was sort of unique
- 12:18Speaker 3: and that the Jaguars got on a roll and they
- 12:21Speaker 3: kind of came from nowhere and everything felt sort of inevitable,
- 12:25Speaker 3: Like when you look back on it, it felt inevitable they're
- 12:27Speaker 3: going to win those five games and get that's not
- 12:29Speaker 3: a story. But usually there are some teams like forty
- 12:33Speaker 3: nine ers this year that look like they're just the
- 12:35Speaker 3: team and they're sort of rolling. Well, that's a rare
- 12:38Speaker 3: thing to reach in the NFL. Usually you have some
- 12:41Speaker 3: adversity late in the season. It's a league of attrition.
- 12:43Speaker 3: You've got some injuries, you play well for a few weeks,
- 12:46Speaker 3: you sink back because everybody else is good. You're playing contenders,
- 12:50Speaker 3: and the league wants these last games to be competitive.
- 12:53Speaker 3: They try to schedule tough games. So this is sort
- 12:57Speaker 3: of what it is. And I think Evan's point is
- 12:59Speaker 3: look for about what happened last week, Go in this one,
- 13:02Speaker 3: figure out a way to win this one, get it,
- 13:04Speaker 3: and then figure out the next one. And it's hard
- 13:07Speaker 3: to sort of analyze that, but at some point you're
- 13:09Speaker 3: out there playing games and you're not necessarily worlds better
- 13:13Speaker 3: than the opponent. You just find a way to win
- 13:15Speaker 3: that week and you move on. And they answer Jaguars
- 13:18Speaker 3: task this, but they're not favored. I'm not sure they're
- 13:20Speaker 3: gonna win, but they're very capable of winning if they
- 13:24Speaker 3: play well. They just happened the last couple of weeks.
- 13:26Speaker 2: To your point, they are seeing the exact same thing
- 13:28Speaker 2: in Kansas City right now, where they've lost to in
- 13:29Speaker 2: a row, in Philadelphia where they've lost two in a row,
- 13:32Speaker 2: in Miami, and in Detroit. I mean, even the contenders,
- 13:34Speaker 2: those teams, if you follow such things as power rankings,
- 13:37Speaker 2: that have been in the top all year long, they're
- 13:40Speaker 2: all dealing with this too. And it was only late
- 13:43Speaker 2: October that the Niners were dealing with this. They lost
- 13:46Speaker 2: back to back games to backup quarterbacks. You're thinking, what's
- 13:49Speaker 2: the matter with them? And they got hot.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I got an angry email this week. I want this
- 13:54Speaker 3: team to be consistent, And I said, outside of San Francisco,
- 13:56Speaker 3: find me one. I mean, yes, it was an instance
- 14:00Speaker 3: right now, but everybody else in the league. Okay, Dallas too,
- 14:04Speaker 3: right now they're on a roll. But the Niners are
- 14:06Speaker 3: the team that are consistent in the AFC.
- 14:08Speaker 6: Nobody is.
- 14:09Speaker 2: You know, the Dolphins scored seventy points in September and
- 14:12Speaker 2: since then they have been up and down and up
- 14:14Speaker 2: and down.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It up.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Now, what do you think they're saying? It's out Florida
- 14:16Speaker 2: about consistency. Where's the team that scored seventy What do
- 14:19Speaker 2: you expect it every week?
- 14:20Speaker 6: Yes?
- 14:20Speaker 3: Right, yes, yes they do, Yes, they do.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Else we're in the locker room. Calvin Ridley kind of
- 14:25Speaker 1: haig in. We've been talking about the issues with the
- 14:28Speaker 1: route running and Trevor was talking about miscommunication as well,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and really kind of broke down what he saw on
- 14:33Speaker 1: that play, on one of the interceptions.
- 14:36Speaker 8: On that type of play, it's the ball can go
- 14:39Speaker 8: to me, can go to someone else, and it's a look.
- 14:41Speaker 8: You know, I thought I had a certain look and
- 14:44Speaker 8: I was trying to, you know, get my feet on,
- 14:46Speaker 8: get my get up on the dB and take them
- 14:48Speaker 8: a certain way. So we could get another person's pop open.
- 14:51Speaker 8: But it was a different look, and I didn't get
- 14:54Speaker 8: my head around faster, and the ball came out a little.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Faster than I thought. But if I would have, I
- 15:00Speaker 3: just need.
- 15:00Speaker 8: To be logged in in that moment more and just
- 15:02Speaker 8: see to look better and get my head around bass.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Then it had been a different type.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Of place, accoring towardly running the right route, not the
- 15:10Speaker 1: look he thought misidentified what the defense was doing, thought
- 15:14Speaker 1: it was going somewhere else happens if that's something they
- 15:17Speaker 1: need to get on the same page about obviously, to
- 15:19Speaker 1: kind of just always be prepared, especially I'm sure it's
- 15:22Speaker 1: being emphasized this week without Christian Girk out there, because
- 15:25Speaker 1: there's not always that guy that's gonna be the first option.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Maybe a lot of the time. You have to be
- 15:29Speaker 1: ready at all times.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Well, And another radio conversation I had there say it
- 15:32Speaker 2: was with wide receivers coach Chad Hole, and he talked
- 15:35Speaker 2: about about he used the word cohesion. He talked about
- 15:39Speaker 2: that unspoken communication between a quarterback and a wide receiver.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And then I was standing in the locker room yesterday
- 15:45Speaker 2: and noticing that Trevor's locker is here, and Calvin's locker
- 15:47Speaker 2: is here. I mean they have got to since the
- 15:50Speaker 2: start of the season. There's no accident that these two
- 15:52Speaker 2: guys are across from each other. They've been trying to
- 15:55Speaker 2: build that sense of unspoken timing. How long did it
- 15:59Speaker 2: take Peyton and Marvin Harrison to create that How long
- 16:02Speaker 2: did it take when Reggie Wayne came in to be
- 16:04Speaker 2: able to be that target that Peyton Manning was looking at.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I'm not trying to excuse the mistakes he made. I'm
- 16:10Speaker 2: saying this is part of the process of two guys
- 16:15Speaker 2: coming together.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's rarely, especially with route running offense in
- 16:18Speaker 3: the NFL these days, it's rarely one thing this guy
- 16:22Speaker 3: did this poorly. It's usually over the course of a game.
- 16:26Speaker 8: More.
- 16:27Speaker 3: You a lot of read routes. You got a lot
- 16:28Speaker 3: of routes that playoff of Okay, that even's doing this. Now,
- 16:33Speaker 3: the quarterback sees this, the wide series sees this. I
- 16:35Speaker 3: keep going back to you know, yes, the communication has
- 16:40Speaker 3: been a bit clunky with Calvin at times with Trevor,
- 16:44Speaker 3: but everything was sort of going in a good direction
- 16:47Speaker 3: offensively until Trevor didn't practice last week. So I do
- 16:52Speaker 3: think that's sort of become a forgotten element of there
- 16:56Speaker 3: was really no reps at all with these guys, and
- 17:00Speaker 3: up until he got hurt against Cincinnati the last couple
- 17:03Speaker 3: of games, I felt it was going smooth even without Christian.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Then all of a sudden, guess what, he doesn't practice
- 17:08Speaker 3: and it looks clunky.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Well, that's how it goes.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You know, that makes sense to me. I think it'll
- 17:13Speaker 3: be better this week. There's still gonna be some of
- 17:16Speaker 3: that because frankly, Calvin was out two years and this
- 17:20Speaker 3: is still a young offense trying to get these things
- 17:23Speaker 3: and you're gonna have this in the NFL sometimes.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:24Speaker 2: And you know, the other thing Chad Hall said when
- 17:27Speaker 2: we had our conversation after practice es today was that
- 17:30Speaker 2: the coach, the head coach, had personally challenged all of
- 17:33Speaker 2: the coaches to make fixes right, to look differently at it,
- 17:37Speaker 2: and in fact, Doug said it in his news conference
- 17:39Speaker 2: on both Monday and Wednesday, and that was the first
- 17:41Speaker 2: thing that Chad went to. So it's not just the
- 17:43Speaker 2: players who are trying to communicate, it's the coaches who
- 17:46Speaker 2: are working it as well. They were attacking this problem right,
- 17:49Speaker 2: this issue from last week at every angle.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And Calvin said something that I thought was interesting. Yes
- 17:55Speaker 3: today too. It was sort of after one of the questions,
- 17:58Speaker 3: he goes, I just kind of wish the guy had
- 17:59Speaker 3: dropped the while we had another chance. And there is
- 18:01Speaker 3: an element of that. We're focused on that one play
- 18:04Speaker 3: because the Brown's got an interception off of it. Every
- 18:07Speaker 3: team in the league has miscommunications at times between receivers
- 18:12Speaker 3: and quarterbacks. That one really bit the Jags. So we're
- 18:15Speaker 3: talking about it a lot, and there was some It
- 18:18Speaker 3: showed up big time on Sunday. It really hurt them.
- 18:22Speaker 3: It doesn't always hurt you that much. A lot of
- 18:24Speaker 3: teams weren't hurt by it, so I think this is
- 18:27Speaker 3: this week's topic. I don't know that miscommunication with receivers
- 18:31Speaker 3: has been a season long thing that's defined it, but
- 18:34Speaker 3: they got to get it fixed now.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I think it's interesting that you're talking about Doug Peterson
- 18:37Speaker 1: telling coaching staff to try something new, cause a lot
- 18:40Speaker 1: of what we talked about is we're making mistakes the
- 18:43Speaker 1: game plan to sound the plans or what they are.
- 18:45Speaker 1: It's just the player's execution or making self inflicted wounds.
- 18:49Speaker 1: But it is a nice change, I'll say, to see
- 18:52Speaker 1: a little bit of Hey, we need to do a
- 18:53Speaker 1: couple things differently. What we're doing is not even if
- 18:56Speaker 1: we do it to perfection, is not perfect, and we
- 18:59Speaker 1: need to kind of adapt and move forward. So that's
- 19:01Speaker 1: some growth there that's good to see as well. One
- 19:03Speaker 1: of the people that is stepping up in the absence
- 19:05Speaker 1: of Christian Kirk has been Evan Ingram. He's been letting
- 19:07Speaker 1: in the world on fire. His first touchdown of the
- 19:09Speaker 1: year on Monday Night Football and then of course got
- 19:13Speaker 1: a couple of touchdowns against the Browns as well, and
- 19:16Speaker 1: he says this Ravens defense is gonna be a tough
- 19:18Speaker 1: magic as well.
- 19:19Speaker 7: They played with a lot of swagger. Uh they they
- 19:23Speaker 7: played really tough. They push pushed people around, and uh
- 19:28Speaker 7: they're playing really well. It's part of the you know,
- 19:30Speaker 7: they have a good, great offense and a great defense. So, uh,
- 19:33Speaker 7: they it's gonna be a challenge. They're gonna be in
- 19:36Speaker 7: our house. They came here last year and uh, they're
- 19:38Speaker 7: probably trying to respond to how the game ended last year.
- 19:41Speaker 7: So we're gonna get their best punch, but we got
- 19:44Speaker 7: the guys to go do it, for sure, John.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I have to imagine Evan's gonna be targeted quite a.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Bit for some good looking media around here and focusing
- 19:53Speaker 3: yeah it. To me, Evan has in this offense even
- 20:01Speaker 3: when the running game's going well. The passing game is
- 20:06Speaker 3: part of the running game in the West Coast offense
- 20:09Speaker 3: that hasn't been as effective with receivers necessarily this year.
- 20:12Speaker 3: But to me, a lot of Evans production is making
- 20:15Speaker 3: up for the lack of a running game a little
- 20:16Speaker 3: bit because Trevor really relies on it. When they're in
- 20:19Speaker 3: second and nine, it's going to Evan a lot getting
- 20:22Speaker 3: to third and two, getting the third and manageable. That
- 20:26Speaker 3: isn't I mean, Evan's not effective. I think it makes
- 20:29Speaker 3: them very important in this right now because you need
- 20:31Speaker 3: that tight end. He's on pace, I think, to catch
- 20:34Speaker 3: more passes than anybody except Jimmy in nineteen ninety nine.
- 20:38Speaker 3: He's probably gonna reach that number because they're using him
- 20:40Speaker 3: that way. The most impressive thing about Evan the last
- 20:43Speaker 3: couple weeks, all of a sudden, the red zone production's there.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It really hadn't been. I don't think he's ever going
- 20:49Speaker 3: to be a thirty five yard per catch guy like that,
- 20:53Speaker 3: but if he can keep giving you that in the
- 20:54Speaker 3: red zone. That's an element that they lacked for twelve
- 20:59Speaker 3: games or for eleven games. If that's there and they
- 21:03Speaker 3: start putting it together, that's really big Intocember Bryant.
- 21:05Speaker 2: If you were the Ravens, you take him away right,
- 21:09Speaker 2: try to Yeah, I mean, that's where you send Kyle Hamilton,
- 21:12Speaker 2: who was limiting a practice.
- 21:13Speaker 6: He's got the knee from last week.
- 21:15Speaker 2: That's where Rokwan Smith, who was an excellent linebacker, that's
- 21:18Speaker 2: where you'd put him. So to me, you said he'll
- 21:22Speaker 2: be targeted a lot. They'll try. This is where Parker
- 21:25Speaker 2: Washington and Jay Jones and Tim Jones or Elijah Cooks
- 21:31Speaker 2: or whenever the ball comes your way it may only
- 21:34Speaker 2: be twice, then you got to make a catch, especially
- 21:37Speaker 2: if it's on third down. You've got to pull this
- 21:39Speaker 2: one in. This is gonna be a game where Evan's
- 21:42Speaker 2: gonna get someplace. He's gonna make some place. He's really
- 21:45Speaker 2: a tough matchup, but this Ravens defense is excellent. It's
- 21:48Speaker 2: gonna come down to another guy making a clutch catch
- 21:50Speaker 2: in a key moment.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Should be all right coming up after the break here
- 21:54Speaker 1: on jag Zam, we're gonna go over who we think
- 21:56Speaker 1: will be some big playmakers on Sunday football against Baltimore.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Said at this Florida's trusted and reliable moving company and
- 22:13Speaker 1: they are proud to be the official moving partner of
- 22:15Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars. To get a guaranteed quote, you can
- 22:18Speaker 1: visit SUDE dot com slash Jacks.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Definitely. I mean, we got we got four four games left,
- 22:26Speaker 4: you know, we're we're we're in a fine position, you
- 22:28Speaker 4: know where we're at record wise. We we got to
- 22:30Speaker 4: take care of business this week and and moving forward,
- 22:32Speaker 4: but we got to take it one week at a
- 22:33Speaker 4: time and need to get back on track this week
- 22:36Speaker 4: for sure. But yeah, there's still plenty of time. You know,
- 22:38Speaker 4: you look at where we're at. If we could have
- 22:41Speaker 4: been in this position last year, we would have we
- 22:42Speaker 4: would have given a lot to be here. So you know,
- 22:45Speaker 4: there's no panic, but there is sense urgency where this
- 22:48Speaker 4: time of year, December going into January, you got to
- 22:50Speaker 4: be playing your best football and we're not there yet.
- 22:52Speaker 6: So we got some work to do.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Still plenty of time to get things figured out. And
- 22:57Speaker 1: it is a good point. This was very different than
- 22:59Speaker 1: this time last year and you wheeled off all those
- 23:01Speaker 1: wins in a row, and that was wonderful. But now
- 23:03Speaker 1: that you're in you know, you build up this kind
- 23:05Speaker 1: of lead, so if something like this happens, it doesn't
- 23:07Speaker 1: break your season.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Well, and John talked about it, managing attrition, managing the injuries.
- 23:12Speaker 2: And you've got guys now who you are either getting
- 23:15Speaker 2: back or who have been back for a week or
- 23:17Speaker 2: two and you hope get closer to being one hundred percent.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Can I just go ahead with my He will?
- 23:22Speaker 6: He won't? He mind, because my guy's one of those
- 23:24Speaker 6: guys in that state. Jones.
- 23:25Speaker 2: You know, he's been playing with a knee since week
- 23:27Speaker 2: two and he missed a good portion of the season.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Then he comes back and he's playing with a brace,
- 23:32Speaker 6: which he had never played with before, he told me
- 23:34Speaker 6: not long ago.
- 23:34Speaker 2: But he's finally feeling like he's getting back to one
- 23:37Speaker 2: hundred percent. And he's a guy who loves to play
- 23:40Speaker 2: in prime time and saves, he said, a little bit
- 23:43Speaker 2: of energy right for these kinds of games. So I
- 23:46Speaker 2: expect that he will come out and he will be
- 23:47Speaker 2: the go to guy. He will be that guy who
- 23:50Speaker 2: has ten targets, nine catches, you know, eighty nine yards
- 23:55Speaker 2: and two touchdowns, and remember he was the guy that
- 23:57Speaker 2: caught the two point conversion lines last year that beat
- 23:59Speaker 2: the race.
- 24:00Speaker 6: So he'll be that guy. I don't know that he's
- 24:03Speaker 6: going to be that breakaway guy that he's been, right.
- 24:05Speaker 6: I mean, he's the big speed guy, down the field guy.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I'm not sure he's ready, you know, from a knee perspective,
- 24:10Speaker 2: to be able to get down the field like that.
- 24:12Speaker 2: But I do believe that he might be the difference
- 24:14Speaker 2: maker in this game and catch the game winning touchdown
- 24:16Speaker 2: pass because we have forgotten with Christian and with Evan
- 24:21Speaker 2: and with Zay's injury that last year he was a
- 24:24Speaker 2: go to guy and having him back on the field,
- 24:27Speaker 2: even with Christian's absence, makes a world of difference for
- 24:32Speaker 2: the quarterback. It's another guy that he knows will be
- 24:35Speaker 2: where he's supposed to be.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah, when he's right, he really matters.
- 24:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I wonder how much that knee injury is him, because
- 24:41Speaker 1: it's some things he's just to step off and I
- 24:43Speaker 1: feel like if he was fully healthy, it would be.
- 24:45Speaker 2: He's getting there, he says, But it's that again, it's
- 24:47Speaker 2: one of the stories where you hope that some of
- 24:49Speaker 2: these guys who are back and playing through injury all
- 24:52Speaker 2: of a sudden, get a little healthier, get a little stronger,
- 24:55Speaker 2: and feel more like themselves.
- 24:56Speaker 3: And it's tough because he hasn't been bad. I remember
- 25:00Speaker 3: there was a big play down the sideline. He made
- 25:02Speaker 3: a great catch Agains Houston. There's been a couple where
- 25:05Speaker 3: it's been there, he's flashed open, and sometimes this league
- 25:08Speaker 3: is sort of circumstances. The guy makes a great play
- 25:10Speaker 3: on you, but they definitely need his They need defenses
- 25:15Speaker 3: to respect him bare minimum to open everything else up.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I went with Josh Allen he will play well, because
- 25:24Speaker 3: when hasn't he played well this year? I think that's
- 25:26Speaker 3: probably the most telling thing about Josh. Even beyond in
- 25:32Speaker 3: games where he comes off the fields as I could
- 25:34Speaker 3: have done more, he's still playing well. He's been I
- 25:37Speaker 3: think their most consistent player all year. I'm not sure
- 25:41Speaker 3: who else I would put in that category. He won't
- 25:47Speaker 3: He won't disappear in this game. He won't. This is
- 25:52Speaker 3: never too much for him, and he won't quit. I
- 25:55Speaker 3: think the biggest thing he knows with Josh, even in
- 25:58Speaker 3: the games where he doesn't get a sad, he's pressuring.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Last week he was close you don't always get home
- 26:07Speaker 3: when you're a SAT guy. I thought he's still mattered,
- 26:11Speaker 3: and then I think that's why you need to sign
- 26:14Speaker 3: him and keep him around, because even I've said a
- 26:17Speaker 3: million times, even when he doesn't quote play well, he
- 26:21Speaker 3: plays well.
- 26:24Speaker 5: He might.
- 26:26Speaker 3: He had the moment against Cincinnati and then they didn't
- 26:29Speaker 3: win the game. He might make a play Sunday where
- 26:34Speaker 3: he's the one talking to Melissa Stark after the aim,
- 26:37Speaker 3: or you know, he might solidify himself on Sunday primetime
- 26:43Speaker 3: audience as not only a pro bowler, but a guy
- 26:46Speaker 3: everybody around the country says, Oh, he's good.
- 26:50Speaker 6: That's why the Jaguars are good.
- 26:51Speaker 3: This might be his night.
- 26:52Speaker 1: This one becomes the Josh Allen instead of Jaguars Josha.
- 26:56Speaker 3: This is a chance seat of bills Josh. Well, he
- 26:59Speaker 3: was that on one glorious day in a weird season.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta take him next week if he doesn't
- 27:05Speaker 2: get a sack record, because it's coming.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think it's coming. I think it's gonna Sunday Night Football.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It wouldn't be cool for him. And if he got
- 27:11Speaker 3: that on Sunday Night Football in a win, the whole
- 27:13Speaker 3: story and he's the kind of player some guys get
- 27:17Speaker 3: in the situation and they willt he's the kind of
- 27:20Speaker 3: player who rises to it. I hope, so I hope
- 27:22Speaker 3: we're right.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I went with Hoya Lewisan from My Hero who wins
- 27:26Speaker 1: Tonight because he will need to be the catalyst if
- 27:30Speaker 1: they're gonna fix this communication on defense. We've talked about
- 27:33Speaker 1: this for a couple of weeks now, how about things
- 27:35Speaker 1: have not been going away. They want to whether it's
- 27:37Speaker 1: the secondary or just not you know, reading things correctly,
- 27:40Speaker 1: it's buying on the run, whatever it may be. He's
- 27:43Speaker 1: kind of the captain out there, and he's gonna need
- 27:44Speaker 1: to be, you know, the sounding piece between the defensive
- 27:49Speaker 1: backs and the pass rush, especially now with so many
- 27:52Speaker 1: players that are backup playing in the secondary. He won't
- 27:55Speaker 1: have the luxury of not having a good tackling game
- 27:56Speaker 1: like he did on Monday Night Football, because with Lamar
- 27:59Speaker 1: Jackson's much of it is you know, keeping him in
- 28:02Speaker 1: the pocket and tackling him if he does go out
- 28:03Speaker 1: of the pocket. So with that, I think he might
- 28:06Speaker 1: have the ability to maybe force some turnovers because as
- 28:08Speaker 1: we know, Lamar does like to get out of the pocket,
- 28:10Speaker 1: run a little bit when he has that opportunity, and
- 28:12Speaker 1: of course Foil hopefully be there to make the tackle.
- 28:15Speaker 2: He's played at such a high level this season. The
- 28:17Speaker 2: last two weeks have not been up to that standard
- 28:19Speaker 2: that he sets for himself. I saw an overrun plays
- 28:22Speaker 2: which he never does against the Bengals, and last week
- 28:25Speaker 2: he had a communication issue with Devin Lloyd.
- 28:29Speaker 6: You just don't expect that.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So he's one of those guys that I expect to
- 28:31Speaker 2: come out and play well because that's who he is,
- 28:34Speaker 2: that's what he does. Johnny had a big game against
- 28:36Speaker 2: Lamar Jackson last year. He had a bunch of tackles.
- 28:37Speaker 2: I think that was his eighteen tackle game.
- 28:40Speaker 3: It was, And he's key against this team because they
- 28:44Speaker 3: want to run. Lamar is so key. If the linebackers
- 28:48Speaker 3: don't play well, meaning make tackles two yards off line
- 28:51Speaker 3: of scrimmage and not five, then they'll win this game.
- 28:55Speaker 3: And he gets the Ravens. Your linebackers have to play well.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Stay with us on Jag Dam after the break will
- 28:59Speaker 1: go over. What was that going on for Sunday Night

- 29:31Speaker 8: Let's all do oh, let me play, Let me play,
- 29:33Speaker 8: let me play.
- 29:35Speaker 1: They're down in four B God intercept it.
- 29:38Speaker 2: He put it right in the chest of Darius Williams.
- 29:41Speaker 2: The Jaguars defense needed that.
- 29:50Speaker 9: Not a boy just became a little bit of a
- 29:52Speaker 9: smash up derby out there and the receiver can't get there,
- 29:56Speaker 9: and Darius Williams fills the void and happily takes it away.
- 30:01Speaker 9: How was you?
- 30:02Speaker 5: You help him?
- 30:07Speaker 1: Darius Williams miked up last week and he doesn't always
- 30:10Speaker 1: talk a lot, but on the field was pretty musing.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I will say it was one of my more interesting
- 30:14Speaker 1: mikes ups.
- 30:14Speaker 6: That he should talk more. He's having a hell of
- 30:16Speaker 6: a season.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Seventeen passes, defense, near the top of the league, four interceptions.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I didn't expect that kind of a performance from him
- 30:23Speaker 2: this year. I expect him to be steady. I didn't
- 30:25Speaker 2: expect him to be, you know, the best cover corner
- 30:28Speaker 2: out there. Of course, Tyson Campbell has been injured for
- 30:30Speaker 2: so long, but he's really been nice.
- 30:32Speaker 3: No. I've said before I had egg on my face
- 30:34Speaker 3: with this, and I thought he'd be a weakness. I mean,
- 30:36Speaker 3: he was not great playing the nickel last year early
- 30:40Speaker 3: and he played well after that. I sort of ignored that.
- 30:43Speaker 3: This year he's been. I mean he's been their best corner.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Tyson had mental field, so credit to him and Pride
- 30:49Speaker 3: of Creek Side High. Yeah, he was on the ozone
- 30:51Speaker 3: podcast earlier four or five weeks ago. He doesn't love
- 30:55Speaker 3: doing media, so fans haven't really gotten to know him
- 30:58Speaker 3: a whole lot. But he's a very engaging, interesting young man.
- 31:01Speaker 6: We talked to.
