- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Um, Tom is actually sat with me in my living room having just put our kids down.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Tom's a huge uh he's not my kids aren't his kids.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: That sounded weird.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: No, this is how we go.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Tom just came round because my kids are huge fans of him.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and we've just done bedtime.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: We're here in the evening, and Tom, it's a pleasure to have you here.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me on.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: I've done you okay.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You're giggling like a six-year-old.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: It made me a bit uh uncomfortable, but it's fine.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Never see you look a bit starstruck, even even though you know Tom very well.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this bit's always awkward, isn't it?
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Where you actually have have someone on and then they sit next to you.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: I'm so used to a Zoom podcast where I'm on my own.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: But we'll we'll do it right.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Tom, Tom, we'll do the set the standard thing.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Worked out today.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Tom's got 67 GB caps and 67 England caps, so 134 total.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Um, he's coming in on a hot run of form.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Best player at the Egypt Egypt World Cup qualifier, scoring four goals there.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Which I decided to give you your own stat, which he's looking at now, which is he scored more in the last four games than he did in his first 130 games.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Well, you you also scored more in your last four games than I did in my previous 183 games for Holland.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: So I mean you can you can read into that what you will about the uh about the tournament, but it was yeah, no, it was nice to finally uh get the white thing into the goal for a change.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean you are I mean no, let's let's let's be fair.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I mean the first 130 weren't weren't good, but you know, the next next maybe this is just a sign of things to come.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: He's now a high midfielder, or you still think you're a halfback for Amsterdam next year.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Do you want to comment on that again, Yupe?
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: No, we're gonna come back to to to the to the to the somewhat sensitive move of Thomas Sorsby.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: What amsterdam put on their Instagram?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Uh defenderslash midfielder Tom Sorsby.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: I've played against you quite a lot now.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I've never seen you play defense.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: You did you do play defense, but never seen you play in in defense.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: But so I think it's just them already like Tom, we're happy we're signing you, but you're gonna play as a halfback.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: That's my prediction.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, I will I will let you know that my my first game internationally was actually as a halfback, having never played there in my life.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: So I've got one cap experience as a halfback.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: My my home is in the midfield, and I and I hope it's gonna be there.
- 4:38SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, just want that on the record as well.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: In in Dutch, we say hope gives life.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: So let's let's keep it at that.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Well, before we go into um a bit a bit with Tom, we're gonna round up the Euro Hockey League.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Um, you might have seen on Instagram and other socials that um the social media is no longer run by me or Brendan because it's actually half decent.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: I've got a I've got a shout out to Jack Berry who's come on.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Um he's just posted about the our masters menu, which I mean he's already, I think Cube's already a fan of him because it's golf related.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Um apparently we're on TikTok.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we are or not because I don't have TikTok.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: But check us out on TikTok if you've got it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: I think we're coming, YouTube's coming for you.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: So um thank you to Jack Berry.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Have you have you seen any of that?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've seen uh I've seen uh uh some clips of you and Toby predicting uh the DHL roundup.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he did meet.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't a fan of Jack's for a good for a good couple of days because he's obviously put in this effort to make these clips and he's clipped up the worst possible thing for me, which was to predict that English Club's gonna do well at EHL.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Can I say, can I say, I uh watch it?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm watching EHL.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Felt bad for half a second, like I was like, oh fuck, Phil, Ames V, like oh, I feel really bad for him.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: But then I like somewhere deep in my mind, I thought, I've seen something on Instagram, I've seen I've heard something in the podcast about a prediction.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you, an English team is going into the final.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: That didn't age well, I think.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: 60 minutes and all hope was gone.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: It was like the the the anchor man boy that escalated quickly.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: That was like what came to mind immediately was incredible.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Was one of the few times that um after our game, and obviously the disappointment of losing 3-1 to Gantois, that we were like at a coffee shop after our game, and people had the live scores on of Serbiton, and it was the one time where they were like Serbin are losing.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: I was like, for the love of God, Serbiton, just win this game for me, please.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Please.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: First time I've ever been a Serbin.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I was like, You've got to help me out, and even even Met 365 had them down as heavy favorites.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Um and yeah, did you watch that game, Tom?
- 7:12SPEAKER_02: Unfortunately, we um we had to train during that game, so I watched your game in the morning, and then uh we were on one of the one of the other pitches listening to the the Campo fans go a bit wild from pitch three or wherever wherever we were.
- 7:29SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, no, I it was kind of a one of those days where the the drizzle was coming down, it was great, it was miserable, and you thought the English teams might be at home and do quite well, and uh unfortunately it wasn't wasn't to be.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: It wasn't to be before before we get onto that.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I've got to give you his time in the sun, as he normally gets, because we we will come as the Euro Hockey League in a second.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: But you're still you're still top of the table.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh I've been waiting so long for things to turn shit that I'm now actually starting to think it might not turn to shit.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Lock on whoop.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: No, we uh we had two lovely weeks with uh in which we played Pinocchio and um Blumenau, which uh it's been a while since I've won against both teams, uh really.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And uh we kind of in uh like House Truen uh says it, we uh battered uh them.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Uh and also like for the first time I I left the game and I thought, you know, this was like rightful, like we we deserve to win, also this big against both teams.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: We fucking knocked them off, and that's and I've from being like on the other side where I got fucked without any Vaseline by them for eight years in a row, and now I was on the side of I did the fucking, and that was really good for once.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: So the self-dine.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So uh still we have absolutely fall, we can still throw on it with two babes in bills, but it's nice you can finally like you know, I've always been place five, six, and you're looking up, and for the first time ever, I'm not like counting whether what other teams have to do for us to make it.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: You know, I've I've I've not looked at other teams' scores because for the last eight years I was like, but if that drops against this one, this means this might have chances you win this.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we well, we can bring Tom in there, can't we?
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Because Tom is, you know, we've talked about his big moves Den Boss, sorry, for from Amsterdam.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Jesus, he's moving to Amsterdam, but he's still playing for Den Boss, who are currently sat in fifth place as we record this, with three to go, four to go.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: And um, how is it to look up or looking looking at them fixtures?
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, on the flip side of Yupes point, we're uh we're we're looking up at those boys at the top of the table.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: I also I'm not sure I'm convinced by this attitude of OR aren't kind of uh where they deserve to be, I think.
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: You know, you're kind of saying it's a bit kind of by chance, and I actually think these guys have been pretty good, and most people consider them to be pretty good this year.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: So um I'm not falling for the kind of false modesty approach that's going on at this side of the Zoom.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: But um I've never I've never said I'm I don't think a lot of people will say I'm modest or something close to that.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Um I do think deserved be on up because we're playing a really hockey, but I've been so used to things fall apart, like things starting to look well, and then it's like I fall apart, and it's like you know, it's gone.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, and now so that's why I'm a bit uh reluctant on being uh uh confident, like staying like that that it's it there's a lot of scar tissue there, that's what I mean.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, understood.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: But we're doing really well.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: You can kind of see because there isn't a happier man in the world, I think, than Struan Walker on a Monday morning.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: I think the the first person that I see at Bisham Abbey is Struan Walker, and he's got a smile that goes from ear to ear, and he's so happy to see everyone, and it's been this way all season, and it's just getting to the point now where it was a little bit annoying at first, and now I'm just past the point of caring, and it's just you just have to enjoy it.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: He's he's the most lively guy of anyone when we get back on a Monday morning.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we I I still can't believe it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: I still have the hockey NL app on my on my Safari open, and I always check the scores and like follow OR, follow the follow the GB lads, and I just can't believe it.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Every single time I open the score sheet, there he is sat there.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: And I just first of all, I think how how happy he will be.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: I will I will jump in.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Whenever we meet for coffee in the Netherlands and somebody is playing you guys, we always say, please, can someone stop Struan scoring tomorrow?
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: And we say, Right, fine, this is gonna be the week that we stop him scoring.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: And then every time we check the Hockey NL app, it's you know, Struin Walker, two goals.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Message goes into the WhatsApp, yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: Good job, lads.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: No one managed to stop him again this week.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's also today, uh, like uh, and he's he's done some uh uh stuff on stats for us, is Ramon Min from uh Hockey NL, and he does all the stats, and today he put out like a like a like a nice little uh I don't know how you call it like a wallpaper of Struen and his stats.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Because the the the the the fucking idiot thing about him is he scored in 17 uh 17 of his 24 goals are in away games, and also he scored six against uh uh uh uh Blumenel, six against Pinocchio, five against Amsterdam, five against uh Campbell.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: He's only scored against like the top teams.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: He's not scored against Calido or like Hurley or like he doesn't score against those teams.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: It's on the he also he also missed like he he scores the most difficult goals, he scores lobs like from impossible angles, but then he gets one at the second post for free and he misses it.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: It's just he he never ceases to to like uh surprise me anymore.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: But he's enough, he's like main driver in the team, also like vibes-wise, because he's just as much of an idiot as I am, so we vibe really well.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: We talk the same idiot language, that helps.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is true.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: But I mean it's a big I guess this is the probably the really exciting thing, and something that EHL showed, which is like uh the another reminder of the strength of Dutch hockey that the eighth or seventh based uh place team in the Hoof class uh won the EHL, um, which yeah makes me annoyed because you peas gonna be um smug about that, but at the same time, like again, Dutch hockey is always setting the setting the standard.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Um before we go on to the EHL, just I mean, a very brief note that the England hockey league has moved into phase three.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna bother to explain what phase two and phase three are.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Uh look it up if you'd like, but um, we're in phase three.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: On to the EHL.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Um I already wrote down here that I'll let you laugh at me for my predictions.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: He's already done that as well.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Um, Toby also, you know, wanted to be smug to me, but he also got all of his predictions wrong, I'm pretty sure.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Um what would be you did you manage to watch any of the EHL?
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I uh was uh at the finals day I was there watching.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I had a stack do from Friday to Sunday, so did not watch any of the other games really.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Um saw the highlights and shit.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Um it's incredible that Campong won, to be honest.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: Um also incredible that if but I'm getting into the if you're playing uh kampon and you have a goalie who's who's saying he's not reconciled at the moment, it's not in his best season, even you I saw an endrings from top of the D.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: You flick it nine corners, you flick it nine times to glove side, then then you also gotta look in the mirror and think, boy, did we fuck up?
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Um credit where creditors do.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: I think Pampong did really, really well, especially considering they didn't have Ballock, they didn't have Terrence.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Yip was on the minute restrictions.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, and also credit to Sander Dewijn, who played his last tournament, like a last meaningful couple matches, uh, because they're like done in the hoof cluster.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: And uh at I don't know how old he is, 35, 36, played fucking unreal hockey still.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Um all the boys that did play played really well.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: So credit to Campun because I think this was an incredible achievement.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: But you also kind of knew because it was only EHL left for them, and they kind of kind of threw away all the hoof cluster.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: They didn't really care anymore.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: It looks like they they don't really care anymore whether they win or lose or whatever.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: And they're kind of cup fighters, like they have this this this aura around them that like you know when e when when EHL comes, we'll be there, and they did deliver, so yeah, credit to them.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And also, you have fucking gun to ask like what the fuck did you do?
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: You have nine corners, you didn't flick it once to stick side.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: It really annoyed me at the stance.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Like, to make the goalie maker safe.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Why does everyone keep flicking through the runner?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: Make the goalie maker safe.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, we actually had um a message from the secret analyst.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Have you seen him on his on Instagram?
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm not allowed to say I'm guessing who he is, but he messaged uh me with some like stats from the game.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and it basically says that the match narrative Campong took a three-goal lead, then parked the bus.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: They generated very little threat after their third goal, not helped by their numerous cards.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Gantois scored two goals from a 4.8 expected goals, and somewhat amazingly, Campong scored from a 0.4 expected goals.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: They scored three.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Does that make sense to both of you?
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: They um shot conversion.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Ganto had 13 shots in high value locations, scoring one field goal, whereas Campong had three shots from average locations scoring two goals.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: So I don't agree with that.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Go Dukal had a free backhand from the from like in between penalty spot and top of the D.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: And I'm sorry, the guy if he can hit a backhand from that range, it's it's not an average position.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's actually the exact response that David Ames gave me when I showed him these stats.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: And also the goal from Finn Bainer, I think it was.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Was also from like a good angle in the D backhand.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Like that's not an average position.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: The chance uh this was 70 and the bot gave half the goal or something and he hit it one time.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: That's a fucking tough shot to make, but it's a better position, but it's a fucking tough shot to make.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, like I say, I don't know about the secret analyst, um, but yeah, I mean that was exactly the response that David Ames gave.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: Um, Source, to bring you in, you were down watching a few of the games.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Like, did you watch the finals?
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I I was down watched the third, fourth, and the final.
- 18:00SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I think it's super impressive for Campong to do that.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, to go and win the EHL beating the German, Belgian, and Dutch champions in your three games.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: I think there's no doubt in that they deserve to win that.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: I think if you know there were three really tough games on paper, and if you win all three, then yeah, hands down, I think you deserve to to take away the the trophy.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: And then they played really well, and it wasn't, I don't think anyone had particularly highlighted them as like obviously they've got a bit of history with the EHL, but I don't think anyone had said, you know, they're gonna walk it, for example, this year.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean we we we definitely wrote them off in the that camp on Krethel.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: We thought the winner of Amsterdam Polo would would go uh hamburger polo would go through to the final when me and Toby did this uh a couple of weeks ago.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: And I was just gonna bring up that Amsterdam.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: We we went down um to watch the Amsterdam hamburger polo game, and I've got to say, like, going down to that game, it was kind of like pitched as gonna be one of the best games of the tournament, and and I think it absolutely delivered.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: If anyone uh did watch that game, it's like a this sounds really like nerdy, but it's the reason that like I missed the old hockey because they basically just played it ball to the wall, guns out, we're gonna attack, we're gonna play great hockey, there's gonna be a lot of freedom going on, and I thought like the people in that game and some of the players, the Casey and Brothers have got such a crazy hunger.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: Um, you can literally see it in every single thing they do, but also matched with the quality they bring.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: You got Tom Craig on the other side, Tim Brand, who also played insanely well.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Um, did you uh I think Tom you watched that game too?
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Have you got any anyone who stood out to you?
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the the guys that you said, but to be honest, yeah, I think that was the game that Amsterdam, I think, turned it on, and then unfortunately, I think that's they didn't probably look quite the same in their in their next game.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: I think I don't know if that game maybe they used all their energy in that because it was like fireworks to watch.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: I mean both teams playing like pretty different styles, but yeah, I agree with you completely.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: It was a really, really good game to watch.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Um, and definitely, yeah, definitely one of those that was the highlight of the weekend.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Actually, you didn't realise I was saying that to you because it's your team next year, so you've got to be like, they played fucking well.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Great team.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Um, we should say on the women's side, um, Stixer um uh came out on top to win their first first EHL title.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: I kind of the writing seemed on the wall for that one, um, with their current form being Dem Boss in the league a couple of weeks before, and then going going ahead and and winning that game.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: You did you catch that game?
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: I watched some of it.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: It was a really boring game, to be honest.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Not like nothing really happened.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: I think it was nine circle penetrations against eight.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: It was just a corner from Yibi.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: One take about uh uh EHL women's final that kind of got on uh under my skin, or like I got a bit uh and uh this is no uh discredit to Yibby because I think it's incredible what she does with the corner, and she has by a mile, there's no one like close to her how good her corner is.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: It's by far the best corner, and I think it's uh it's an unreal weapon to have.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: But for me, the MVP of the final and the entire tournament, and the MVP like always should be Xander Wat, because I think she is uh at this moment on a level I've that's not really been seen before, and I know it's always weird to call current players uh like um uh she is the best hockey player I've ever seen on a women's hockey field.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Like it's she's the the her speed and how fast she runs and the impact she has on the on the whole game, it's not comparable to anyone else, and that's not a knock on anyone else, but I think she's by a mile the best hockey player on the field.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Right now in women's hockey, like to give you some context, uh Stixer played Oranje Road, who are uh second to last in the in the hoofklasse, and they drew and there was one player missing at Stixer, and that was van der Rat.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And I don't think that's a coincidence.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and do you do you think obviously with Yibi, like you say, we're we're big fans here, we've had her on, she's an unbelievable talent, but like she's getting to a point where she's by a mile the biggest name in hockey now.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: She just is and and how often that just becomes a thing of like who do we, you know, who scored the goal?
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's a corner again.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Does she become just instant MVP before she started?
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Does someone have to stand out crazy to be her?
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: Like, I think she is the most valuable player, if that makes sense, because she is the the difference maker on the score sheet, and she nine out of ten times just scores the goals, and do have to give her like she's not your average drag flicker, like she's not like uh someone who's on the pitch because they're a drag flicker.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: She is a really good hockey player, and I think she gets she doesn't get credit enough credit for that because of her corner.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: But I think she's just a really good hockey player with an insane corner, and Xander Waas is just an insane player, like she's like I said, she sometimes when she's playing hockey, it looks like she's playing against kids not her age, the way she runs past them.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: I think it's a fair take.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Anytime I don't watch her play that much, but anytime I do, I I do have this, I share the same opinion with you.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Um is there anyone who in particular like stood out to you um before we move on from EHL?
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Like, is there any other takes we've got?
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: Like I've already said about I think watching the Cassim Brothers again just live, I think it it really um highlighted to me that you know the best players don't have to come from the top nations.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Um, and this is kind of why I wanted to you know push push my agenda of of doing like a world world team of the year, world player of the year, making it more well-rounded because I think the way them two are playing at the moment it should should get some credit somehow.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Um but is there anyone else that you watched uh either of you and thought they were insanely good?
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: Um well if I could start, and it's not maybe the the answer uh on your question, but for me, uh Antoine Kina is uh the most entertaining player to watch by a mouth in current hockey.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: I I have not seen someone give less of a shit on a hockey pitch while still being really good as in Antoine Kina.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: He just he he he just he doesn't give a shit.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: He runs sometimes, he passes a ball.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: He he first he starts 10 seconds of of of cursing to everyone and anyone who's close to him.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Then he doesn't even look at the play, just walks, not runs, walks back to his position to their low block, and he just walks back.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: People are passing him left and right, and he's just talking to himself and to to someone who didn't trap the ball over 80 yards with a bounce on his back end, and he's thinking, how can this idiot not trap it?
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: And then he gets a ball.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: He just he waits for people to he doesn't run into space, he just waits for people to run into him and then get a foul, and then it's it's insane.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: And he plays 60 minutes, and I get why he plays 60 minutes because he doesn't run, he only runs when he has the ball, it's insane.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: So I've got two takes on this, which is pretty funny.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: The first one is like, um, again, Ames he said to me after watching the final, he was like, the emotions of Antoine Kina, first of all, like when they were 3-0 down in the third quarter, him just like like you says, just not giving a shit at all, and then suddenly they score a goal and he's like perks up.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: And how many touches he had in that game must have been like absolutely insane.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Like basically everything just goes through him.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: He just decides randomly, it's like, oh yeah, I'll just dribble from here.
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: I'm a centre back, but I'll just dribble.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: And then every time he just like he could he he looks at Hendrix a lot of the time and he's like, You're not making the play, I'm making the play, and then he'll just go alone.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: This the second one is when we when we play.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: It's not even a pass.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: That's what I wanted to add.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: It's not even a pass, it's like Hendrix just stopping, just leaving the ball, and then he comes to pick it up, and just like it's insane.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Like in in NBA, you have the term a usage rate, and that's how many, how much of the time you have the ball, like possession of the ball.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: His usage rate was like nine to nine to the the the other thing is when we played Gantois and uh like right at the end of the game, he had they had like uh he was obviously good in the game.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: He picked our our our zone apart a little bit in at times and like played played some nice hockey, but like right at the end of the game, they're 3-1 up.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: Um, we give the ball away and they run all the way at the other end.
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: And uh Sanford absolutely like it's like 10 seconds left.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: Hellan has got the ball.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: Sanford has done this diving, like swing tackle, which is absolutely horrendous.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I'm stood, I'm stood next to Keener.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Look at him thinking like he's gonna be really angry.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: He's just like look like a good tackle to me.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: Like, that's the most this this tackle is might even be my highlight of the week from EHL.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: It was like so.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm stood just for some context.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: So we're stood by our changing room waiting to go to train kind of in half an hour's time.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: So all our boys are down getting ready for training.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: You know, the game's dead and buried, and you know, there's no goalkeeper in the goal.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: This guy's bearing down on it, and Sanford lines him up from I reckon 25 yards away, absolutely takes him out, and I've never heard so many of the boys just absolutely crease laughing, waiting to go to training.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: And then one of the young boys in our team who's pretty funny.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: Um, Jopper just goes, like something along the lines of that's Brexit means Brexit, or something like that.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: It was just the most like Sunday League football two-footed tackle.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: It was honestly so good.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Croft also video proof of this one.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll definitely pick it up, it's unbelievable.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Croft also said after the game, he was like, if you didn't get him, Sandy, I was fucking coming for him.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: Actually, the the kind of like Henry Croft, Antoine Keener.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: We need more of that kind of battle, I think.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: Like the more you know, get import some Brits over to to go at um, you know, these kind of players because that that's the stuff that I think people people would pay to watch.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: For absolute sure.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: That I mean you that is not a show.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: I would love like a like a 1v1 tournament with like Duke Otelke Camp, Antoine Kina, Henry Croft, uh what's another what's another idiot on the hockey field?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Uh uh let Christopher Rug, like get all the uh Tom Gambush, get all the emotionally not under control guys, get them in a ring, then get them to play hockey together and just pure entertainment.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: It's such a good idea, you it's like it's like you an envelope comes through the post with the gold.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Torah in it as well, like, or just bet shit crazy on the hockey pitch and just let them let them figure it out together.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: Well, again, if anyone's got the funds to pay these guys to make it happen, we'd love to be a part of it.
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Right, we're gonna uh that's kind of uh a roundup of the HL.
- 29:22SPEAKER_01: We're gonna be right back after the break.

- 31:07SPEAKER_01: Right, and we're back for part two.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: Um, we're gonna talk a little bit of rule changes, um, mainly on the back of talking to people post EHL, where I'm gonna be put it very politely that some of the umpires had subpar tournaments.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Um is anyone willing to comment on that or should I just skip right over it?
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: You probably just meant to say there was shit, right?
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's some some video problems, some just general problems.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: But anyway, um what about rule changes to either make the game more interesting or to make it a lot easier to umpire?
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Um, you sure you don't want to comment, Tom?
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: I think I'm okay without commenting.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm gonna pitch some to you guys.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Um, first of all, I was thinking like you've got loads of sports, like Formula One is a good example where the rules change every single year and it's super like a super progressive thing.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: And I was just like, why are we so stuck in our ways?
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: Why does it have to be so many like cut through so much white ribbon to actually get the get stuff changed?
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: Why can't we just do it?
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: So the first one is I'll pitch them to you and you can tell me if I'm stupid or not, which you quite enjoys.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Is what if you can't aerial the ball into the D?
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Does that make anything better?
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: No, makes it makes it completely shit.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: Because then every team will play a low block, and you can't really really change, like then everything is gonna do like baseball, like a handball around the D, and nothing, nothing is gonna uh and the fun thing about it will be that the people at one point just are done with it and start whacking balls into the circle, multiple hands will be broken, and the lesser players become more uh useful.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Uh you'll probably not play Henry Croft as a striker anymore.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: You'll just put him round the 23 and hit balls into the D.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Um so um no.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: I think that's a shit rule, Philip.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: I think the the less that I have to defend Henry Croft hitting the ball into the circle is a good thing for me.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Right, okay.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Well well on that one, there's too there's two more ones around this.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Is the first one is I've already pitched this and I think it's still a good one, a card for smashing the ball into the D dangerously.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think internationally, I think I think if you hit a ball over knee height, it's a card.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: Because I think you're we're training so much that you should be able to hit a ball low.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: If you hit it over knee height, it's a it's a yellow card.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Ten minutes.
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Sit your ass down.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I would agree.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I think even like one of our boys this week walked into Bishop with a broken arm because at the weekend they played a game, a guy hits it into the circle, breaks his arm, and now he's out for however long.
- 34:10SPEAKER_02: So I think that shouldn't just be uh it's a free hit the other way, and we play on.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: I think that needs to be yeah.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: So so I do agree with this.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Someone would then say you can play even more of a low block because then you're not scared of the ball coming in as much.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: But you can hit it under the knee, or you can, but it's you can hit it off the ground, you just can't hit it, hit it like like if you hit it above knee height, which is pretty high, it it's a it's a yellow, I think.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: No, it's also a risk, a risk reward kind of thing.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: You can try it.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so okay, I like I mean I'm a big fan of that, and I think that's pretty easy to bring in as well.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: This is also from from my brother-in-law, he said, and and this maybe is going back to the aerial rule, is complete free-for-all with the aerial.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: So there isn't now anything that they can like judge, there isn't anything they worry about.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: Maybe you bring in like you cannot swing at the ball, which maybe makes it slightly like okay, you have to bring the ball down, but there's just no rules, and therefore you can't like the there can't be anyone complaining.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: What about that?
- 35:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I I love that one.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: I'm and the one thing I would change is uh uh uh is not no rules.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: I just want to say the one that creates danger is the one who makes a foul.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: So that's not it's not like so.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: If if I'm get there to trap a ball and you just trap it in front of me and nothing happens, fine.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: But you're the one that's in bumping to me, the danger, foul.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: So it's just if you create danger and like serious danger, then it's a foul.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: Then you can still because there's it's also nice to still have some discussion and to still whine about decisions of the ref, even though you know what I mean.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: It's also nice to create some tension on the hockey field.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: So the one who created you, you get what I mean?
- 36:00SPEAKER_00: But I like the free-for-all stuff, just just whack at it.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I think I think we've just never got this rule right.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: There's always a complaint, and no matter how we try and fix it, it never seems to be the right thing.
- 36:13SPEAKER_02: So maybe actually zero rules or less rules, then there's less things to complain about.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I like it.
- 36:22SPEAKER_01: I think if you I I even just think that the the simple thing of no swinging, like, how dangerous can it be if I'm stood stood next to you and the ball's coming in?
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Yes, you could edge it onto your head, but we could do that now.
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: Like, if you're not playing at it, if you're just trying to trap it, I think it just could make it super interesting.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: And I do think then, like people then are forced to play hockey instead of just continually aerial the ball because it's not that easy to play.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Um, okay.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: And I and I think I I think also like with the uh uh what the problem is that's the main problem of hockey.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: I do think we change rules a lot, but just don't change rules that that need changing.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: That's the problem.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: We're fixing shit that's not broken.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: So we're fixing uh a penalty corner uh defense where you can only have 40 seconds when no one was complaining about it taking way too long.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: That's that's that's the stuff we're worried about.
- 37:16SPEAKER_00: But an aerial rule which we start to say, yeah, at the highest point we look at the initial receiver and he has to be on five, unless it's without playing.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: This is that makes shit.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: I was also going towards the idea with the rule changes to make it basically my thoughts were tiredness means chaos, and chaos means more entertainment.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: So they're trying to go bigger squads, they're introducing more numbers, reserves coming into tournaments.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Why don't we go back to 16-man squads, lose quarter time?
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: There was a I put this into Chat GPT, chat GPT started saying, why don't you put caps on subs so have a number of substitutions, which I think does make it too complicated.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: But if you lose the quarter times, if you go back to 16-man squads, you therefore have this whole half of chaos, and um back when I think it just made the game way more entertaining.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: Thoughts?
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, I think I I think I like halves, but yeah, capping subs, I mean, if you're trying to keep a track, who's who's doing that job?
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: Because I've seen some of the people on the side of the pitch.
- 38:25SPEAKER_02: If are they like counting with like a ticker how many subs you make?
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Because if you've made 59 or 61 subs, and it's a recipe for disaster, isn't it?
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: I I I like the idea.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think I think you're right.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: I think the mo the most entertaining things tend to happen at the end of games when people are tired.
- 38:46SPEAKER_02: But yeah, do you have to make us tired to get there?
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: Is that the is that the shtick?
- 38:52SPEAKER_01: But my thoughts are yes, like the game's just becoming so much about sports science that I'm trying to take it, I'm trying to take us backwards, essentially.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: You point I I I agree with I've said this before, the higher the level, the more shit it becomes to watch sometimes.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Like it's also let's like maybe on your end, and it's just a just a spin-off from your idea.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Why not start with like we all start in one corner, we start in one corner of the field, the other team starts in the other corner.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: You all have to run five laps around the field as quick as you can, and then the game like so the ref blows his whistle, then the game starts.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: What your friend doesn't finish five laps around the field, around the corner flags, and then you start the game.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: You're completely fucked.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: But the game starts, everyone's fucked, and the one who's the least fucked, you know what I mean?
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but yeah, but then you're forgetting that if if say you're super fit and you get rounded five times, and then you've got the fat bloke at the back who's then like you're running forward to score, and he's still going behind the goal.
- 39:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but that's that creates chaos.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Like the first five minutes of the game, people will watch a guy who can't run, like, struggle to make it on the finish line, and then get stopped right away.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: And and the keepers are gonna finish last, right?
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: So no one's gonna be in the goal for maybe 10 minutes of the game.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: No, it's are they running the game?
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Goalies are the only one with an exemption, so it's if the game starts, it's goalie versus goalie.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Like, who dares to really go out of that circle to start playing hockey?
- 40:24SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: It's almost like that kind of ice hockey style.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: Keepers get the gloves off and go and have a fight in the middle.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: It's that kind of yeah.
- 40:34SPEAKER_02: People would pay to see that, I think.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: You could also add that into it.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: The goalies just start off but wanking at each other.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: I do I don't know if they do hockey festivals in Holland, but in hockey festivals in England, that used to be the way you would start when you're like drinking and playing hockey.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: When I was younger, when we went to one of them, it always used to be a it was called something like a kamikaze start, and it would always be goalie versus goalie, and they'd run into each other on the halfway line, have a fight, and then you play the game.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think you're on something you all my shit.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: Back to the essence of hockey, this is like this is really too much stuff.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: So I've got an interesting one for you, right?
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: And this I this one I really like, but it's I think it's a bit out there.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: So corners, so I'm desperate to change corners because they're just so shit now, and they're just not what they used to be.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: So you're only you're it as the defending team, you're only allowed to give three re awards away, three consecutive corners away, and then it turns into a stroke.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: So we would you know you run two down and it hits the the runner's foot on that third one.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know, does that make it more interesting or less interesting?
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Because it it makes the runner think, but it also maybe enhances the the the attacker's thing to hit hit the foot twice.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: Or you say on every reawart a player has to leave.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: Oh I like that.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: So every time you hit the runner, someone else then he has to leave.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: He has to like it's another bounty corner and he has to go to top of the whoever gets hit has to leave.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:15SPEAKER_02: Because then you I mean you're a runner, and I'm very glad I don't have to do this job.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: But I I assume that after you get hit, the last thing you want to do is run again, right?
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: It really depends on where you get hit.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: It's like there's if you get hit on the shin bent, like it's still it's still like a sport for me to always point in my stick and say, it's always sick, and then the moment he gives a corner, I stop complaining.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I was like, Yeah, it wasn't like a stick, so that's fine.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: It's just do you know the problem with it though is that I've already come up with a solution.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: So but if you're on the post, Tom, and and two guys go down, suddenly you're having to run.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Then we just don't run.
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: You just back the postman.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Then it yeah, that's that's part of the tactics, then it's like you hey I think you're on something.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, my idea was a bit shit, but yours is actually pretty good.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: The only thing I like a goalie gets hit.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Okay, so every file, like let's say a foul.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: It can't be the goalie.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, I know, but like that that might be the solution.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: People will go.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: They just run out their goalie.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: Have two line stops, run out their goalie, and have two like zones.
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but what we're talking about here is having like more entertainment at corners, and this is definitely more entertainment.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: Having a goalie run out, that's that's that's fun.
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: Uh what about if it was just only three uh defenders in the goal instead of four?
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: Would that make it more interesting?
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: No, because I don't think any direct shot will be fired then anymore.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that makes it more yeah, yeah, and I I think that's boring.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: I do think the one thing Yeah, go on.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: I I do think like Everyone is wanting to take corners away from the game, but it's like easily the like one of the more exciting moments of a match, and I really don't think we should take them away, but we should find a way, it needs to be safe, but it also needs to like be interesting, still.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I completely agree with that because I think, and I've said this multiple times to you as well already, Philip.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: I think penalty corners are the one distinctive thing in hockey that makes hockey popular.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: And if you look at popular guys in hockey, it is and it's it's painful, I agree.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: But it's it's Alexander Hendricks, it's Yip Jansen, it's it's uh Yibby Jansen, it's the girls and guys who have a penalty corner.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: Those are the ones everyone resonates with, and everyone thinks that's cool, I want to be like that.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: So if you take away that, then like let's be honest, no one wants to be Yuke Demol, uh Tom Swordsberg or Phil Roper.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: We're good at what we do, but people want to be drag flickers.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: I agree, and and actually I am coming around to that.
- 44:58SPEAKER_01: I I I think I do have the best idea, but it's not very feasible, so it's probably not the best idea.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: And this is that you draw a line up from the posts, like 13 and a half yards, right?
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: Hear me out.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: It's like a free throw uh in basketball, where basically you draw a line out and it's like a rectangle, and then the line meets at the top, so 13 and a half yards or 13 yards, right?
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Imagine then the first shot, no one can be in that box except the goalie.
- 45:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just restricted area, restricted area for the first shot.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: So effectively, you still get the drag flick, you still have the all of the same people around, but just the first shot, you cannot have anyone in that area.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: As soon as the first shot goes, anyone can go anywhere.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Therefore, you still get the excitement of the drag flicker or the hitter or whatever, it becomes more of a goalie versus striker thing, but then also you get the chaos afterwards.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: The only problem is it's making the 13-yard box would be a bit of a logistical nightmare.
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: But I kind of like that idea because it takes away the danger, makes the excitement, and also creates a bit more chaos.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: I do wonder if the way corners have gone have made goalkeepers lazier.
- 46:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: I don't mean this in a in like a bad way, but I wonder if keepers I think there's a lot of very good keepers out there.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: That's my caveat.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: My argument back to it is because runners have got so good, have keepers got worse over the years because they don't have to save on both sides of the goal as much.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Don't be English, be blunt.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, goalies have become more shit because of good runners.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Goalies now only have to cover like 40% of the goal, and everything else runners ball.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: That's my biggest no goalie in the world, no goalie has a left foot anymore.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Everyone just oh left foot, yeah, a runnable.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: That's it, it's it's they used to be just middle of the goal, take take everything.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: And there's a there's there's there's one guy who's the quickest in the team with a stick in his right hand, pans away, and just being like, Oh, I hope it touches me.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: And those were the good runners, and now goalies just depend on yeah, runnable, runnable.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: No, save the fucking ball, that's your job.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: That's what I think.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Agreed, and you two actually, as as as well, Soresby.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm gonna give you some love.
- 47:18SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna guess one of the best postmen in the world.
- 47:21SPEAKER_01: You're a you're a very good runner.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: How often is a keeper looking at you when the ball goes down your side?
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're ever getting that look where you're like, come on, mate.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, yeah, but if it's gone in, it's like, oh come on, mate, you should have saved that.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I always feel postmen never really get any and they only get credit.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Like, and I I think being a postman is way more scary than being uh being a runner, because like as a postman, you can get hit every everywhere, and as a runner, you can only get hit like under the knees or like on the knee or whatever.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: It's shit, but like it's still I feel safer running than I feel postman.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: But if you save it, it's incredible safe.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: If you don't save, it's like oh, it was really hard.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: I have got a good story for you though, because I s I I went on the post for the first time in five years against Hendrix in that Gantoir game.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: Um, and and um this is really good.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: I basically so Maz had the rule, right?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: He's just just uh I don't think this is giving anything away, but he's like, if if if the ball goes to the long castle and we're running like this, I want you to step out on the on the deflector.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: So I'm obviously like shit, right okay, switch on, Phil.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Goes to Long Castle, I step out on the line, bang, through the runner's uh goal, and apparently on the commentary they were absolutely slating me, being like, Where was Roper going?
- 48:43SPEAKER_01: Because I've obviously stepped out of the goal.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: So you say the postman only get the good stuff.
- 48:49SPEAKER_01: My one time I run out to try and do my job, but as I've been told by the goalie and the commentators, like, why hasn't he stood there and tried to save it?
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Commentators also they act like they know a lot, but they also know shit.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Um have we got any more, any more?
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: Have you got any more exciting rule changes to add?
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, I actually so this isn't I can't claim this is an original idea because I actually got sent this over to me, but I think we need more referees on the pitch.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: I think there should be I think the game is too quick for how quick some of these people can run, and I think it's actually too tough for them to call.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: I think um well, I'll just say like um the idea comes from Tom Craig, and the Aussie guys have like proposed it genuinely to like umpires to try and get more people on the pitch because they compare it to sports like basketball or like ice hockey where you've got yeah, how many does basketball have?
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Is it four refs?
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: I think it's four, three or like other sports where even in the sports five star, right?
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's like even even in these other sports, you just have more eyes on the game.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: In hockey, there's two guys or girls, and the ball goes so quick and people run so fast, and you're expecting them to keep up with the play and see all the little things that are going on and all the kind of like dark arts that people do, and I think it's just too hard.
- 50:17SPEAKER_02: So maybe you go like two circle refs and then two on the pitch, or even like linesmen, like in football, and they can just like I don't know, I don't know where you'd put them, but I think more eyes is a good thing.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I think that's would be good because I admit we give ref shit, uh, but it some shit is fucking tough to see.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: Like if you if you have to run across the pitch, and especially how quick it goes right now, and with like this shielding and the high ball and everything, like you gotta have some empathy for them.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: We don't, but like you gotta have it deep down.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, fair.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: I think I think it's a good idea.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: I do, I do like it.
- 51:00SPEAKER_01: I um yeah, maybe one in the middle, the one in the middle, maybe.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Also, it this is hilarious, but sorry, the last thing is like we got a corner re awards again in that Gantoir game for Crofty throwing something at the umpire, um, his PCD glove or something like that.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: But I have to say, he got a yellow, yeah, and and actually the it was one nil at a time, and I think that was a reaward corner, so we defended it, and then it was a reaw corner because he threw it at them, and then they scored from that.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: But she stood like right next to the goal, and I was gonna say, in that moment, it's just a crazy rule that you're like you've got a I do know it's like you don't want to be hit by a mask or anything, but I think it's a stupid rule.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I I mean you two have way more experience than this than I do, but like how quickly can you have to think to get your kit off to get back in position as the ball's coming on super quick?
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Is it is it possible?
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: I do feel sorry for them people now.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: I I've done it as well.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I caught the ref with the glove at the Europeans and got the yellow, and that was actually not even like immediately, that was like the game went on.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: I think they had a couple plays, and then I was like, right, I need to get my kit off the rest of it, and you just like try and throw it off the back line, and you don't even check sometimes.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, I think if you hit someone with a glove, it's obviously not gonna hurt them.
- 52:22SPEAKER_02: But if you nail someone with a mask or a box, I think that could do a bit of damage.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: So it's also for me, it's it's such a and it's it's kind of kind of uh to what you say, I think sometimes the game goes so quickly, you kind of have to, you're a bit in panic, like you're still with two gloves on with the knee things, and especially now the runners and the line stops have a fuckload of shit to take off.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: So you're kind of not even worried about where you're throwing because you just want to throw it, and that's also where this 40-second rule really annoys me.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: Well, I've got um well, I think we've done a fair amount there on rules um and umpires.
- 53:01SPEAKER_01: I think actually, probably you could take a couple of them ideas and run with them.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, I don't know how they're gonna get more umpires because surely we're we're we're a bit sparse for umpires.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: So we've got if you know, I've got to try and find three for a game, you're really scrambling around, aren't you?
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Especially when every player is incredibly mean to them.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: But um, as as I said already, our social media guy Jack has been on it, been collating uh questions from the listeners from you guys.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Um, and we're gonna try and answer a couple, uh, or you we're all gonna try and answer a couple.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: Um, the first one uh we've already answered from Norab is as international international, but is how would you want the high ball to be umpired for the next Olympics?
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: We've just said free for all, let's go.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Uh no swinging, all go.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: Um R quirk one, he's got a shit or hit for us.
- 53:57SPEAKER_01: Foot protectors on non-PCD people.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: That's that's also on the on the gull list already as like the most uncool thing in the world.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: Actually, I would say that the the most uncool thing is like black foot protectors on white shoes.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: I think you have to paint them the same colour.
- 54:24SPEAKER_02: If you can it that they're just so uncool foot protectors.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I completely agree.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Like, I also think as like a fourth runner, like you should just be like just taking the hit, break your foot, it's not worth it.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if you're like fourth in the in the lineup, you gotta take those odds.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: You I'd rather look cool than the like some protection on the foot.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: That was it.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Sorry, it were very croft heavy, but he had them on.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: He had these massive ones on over his shoes, he's got pink shoes, they were massive black foot protectors.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: I was like, they look so shit, mate.
- 55:02SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Yeah, but I might get hit.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: He's like, You're like fourth on the hierarchy, mate.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Come on, sort yourself out.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Um, Finn Thompson, uh, other leagues in Europe, yeah.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: We're not doing that right now.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Benji Andrews.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: Um the top of the D, you you only told us one of Brendan's least favourite influencers.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Who are your others?
- 55:29SPEAKER_01: We've got to put ourselves on the spot a little bit here.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Who are your least favourite influencers?
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: When we did the influencers episode, and Brendan gave us um his least favourite, I'll let you you I'll try and find it for a second.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: But have you got any source any favourite or least favorite influencers?
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: My my absolute favourite at the minute is Derwent Hockey.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: So Derwent Hockey are a hockey club, I think, in the Midlands, and they do I I don't know whether it's a parody or not.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: If it isn't a parody, then I am deeply apologetic, but they are absolutely hilarious.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: They've got a coach, and I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but he's like doing team talks before the game, and they're just priceless because it just reminds me of like what hockey was like growing up in the towards the north of England.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: So yeah, they get definitely get a shout out for me.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: I also like the guy, I think you mentioned him a couple of weeks ago, who plays for like York hockey um Ramos Slamos, what a man.
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: His content is so good.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: And one thing I still haven't seen the the last thing I'll add on this is I really enjoy like a longer video.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: So so much of social media right now is like these quick snippets of like I don't know, someone just hitting a really nice ball into the top corner, and I really like that he posts like a three-minute video of his day out playing against the Ben Redding second team up in the north of England, it's just such good content.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: I love I love that people make make like that's that's I think people take themselves way too serious on social media.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: That's what annoys me.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: There's this one guy, and it's not hockey, it's golf.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: But he says, Welcome to another quick haul with an extremely shit golfer, and then he just posts himself making he says and what to another scenic 18 on the bar four.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Like, that's shit I want to watch.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: That's good content.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: Hockey guys should also do this.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: Like, not make yourself out to be the best player in the world, just make a tit out of yourself.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: So, the top of the D.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I do actually have I found Brendan's notes for you.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: I can't I can't read it all because it's a bit offensive.
- 57:49SPEAKER_01: But his top three one, inject hockey, just very average guys, not great at hockey combined with trying to be great.
- 58:00SPEAKER_01: Seems harsh, I quite like inject hockey.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: Terence Peters, just a bit much, shouldn't video your whole day, and he's got too many of his own highlight reels on there.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: Fair, kind of fair.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: I've said I don't get the in the moisturizing your face on the in the in the video.
- 58:17SPEAKER_01: Yip Jansen, too many videos at home acting in front of the camera.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: Come on, grow up.
- 58:24SPEAKER_01: That's Brendan's top three.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm not sure he'll uh he'll be a fan of me reading it out, but I did I did ask him.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: Um such a granddad, doesn't he?
- 58:39SPEAKER_02: These kids making videos back in my day.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: We didn't have any of this TikTok nonsense.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Um okay, um Angus Walker for me for me probably um his name, probably plops up in my feed.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: I think uh Pen Rose.
- 58:59SPEAKER_00: What Penrose Penrose?
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: Penrose?
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Penrose?
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: Penrose.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: Rory Penrose guy Yeah, he takes himself way too serious.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: That's like not my that's not my shtick.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: That's he he he he's too serious.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: Like live a little, like in relax a bit, enjoy.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: Like it's not the world is not that that is the the world's not coming to end if you if you if you don't make a make a do your breathing exercises, like calm down, come on, have some fun in your life.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: I think Rory Penrose is very niche.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: I think if you're into breath work and yoga, he's your place.
- 59:35SPEAKER_01: If you if you're not into breath work and yoga, definitely don't look him up.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Um Angus Walker wants me and you to have a bet you um to predict that you have to predict the top four in the English league, and I have to predict the top four in the Hoof class.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: You don't know four English teams, which is a bit of a few.
- 59:54SPEAKER_00: I do for you.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: I do, I 100% do.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: And I'll do it for you right now.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: I think Shervaton is gonna finish top.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: Wimbledon second, Wimbledon second.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_00: Um just finish fourth.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: Hempstead?
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: So so is this you in the in the league?
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: Or is this the final the final four?
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Those will be the final four.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: Then it's then it's gonna be uh uh uh Hempstead versus Sherbiton, Sherbiton wins.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: Is that possible?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then all Georgians will play Wimbledon.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Uh Wimbledon.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_01: Sorry, that's sorry, that's not possible.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, with those four teams.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, fine.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: And three rock rovers will just slip it as a fifth.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_01: Um I'll go for uh yeah, obviously OR, obviously Rotterdam.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have to back my boy on the right and say Den Boss because he's told me tonight that they've got a nice run in and they're feeling feeling frisky.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: Um and my last one uh Pinake.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Oh interesting.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I don't know who that means that misses out.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm Stan miss out shit.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, maybe I've made a bad bet here.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, for Adam is that you're very good at predictions, Philip.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've been well known for my predictions.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_01: Very very last finisher to wrap up the podcast.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: Give me uh your master's highlights, hube.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, easy, 100% easy.
