- 0:00Speaker 1: Updating the baseball going on right now. Astros and Tigers
- 0:04are scoreless as the Astros bats with the leadoff man aboard.
- 0:10I said that, and he's now forced out at second.
- 0:13Tigers weren't able to get the double play, and in
- 0:16fact the man sliding in the second once a review,
- 0:19he thinks that the out wasn't recorded, even though the
- 0:22umpire says it happened on the transfer as Spencer Gats
- 0:26was pulling the ball out of the glove. So I
- 0:28don't know if they're going to review that or not.
- 0:30But anyway, it is scoreless between the Tigers and the
- 0:35Astros in Game two. Yeah, there's no doubt it. It
- 0:38was on the transfer. Looking at a replay there, so
- 0:42one out will be recorded and the Astros will still
- 0:44have a runner at first base with one out. We'll
- 0:49keep you updated on the baseball the other the other
- 0:51game getting ready to start Baltimore and Kansas City. Detroit
- 0:57is now making a pitching change with a runner at
- 1:01first in one out, so we'll see how that goes.
- 1:03No score and that is in the bottom half of
- 1:05the fifth inning. Tiger's winning yesterday three to one behind
- 1:09Tarik Skuball, who's proven was this year anyway, the best
- 1:13starting pitcher in all of baseball League won Baseball's Pitching
- 1:17Triple Crown wins E ra A and strikeouts. So the
- 1:23Astros backed into a corner and they have to figure
- 1:27out from there. All right, let's hear from long orange
- 1:30Head football coach Steve Sarkisia. Now this is going to
- 1:33be from the SEC teleconference. Remember Sark did his news
- 1:41conference on Monday. Because this is an open date week
- 1:45on the schedule. They're bye week on the schedule. There
- 1:48are no more media availabilities local for Sark Like normally
- 1:53on Thursdays he does a media zoom with the local
- 1:56there's player availabilities, none of that stuff on this open date.
- 2:01Only the news conference sat on Monday. However, the SEC
- 2:04has a man Data teleconference where every coach is on
- 2:07it every week regardless of whether they're playing or not.
- 2:11So that applied to Texas also applied to Oklahoma. Remember
- 2:14the Sooners are going through an open date on the
- 2:15schedule this week as well, leading up to the two
- 2:19teams meeting in Dallas a week from the Saturday in
- 2:22the All state Red River Rivalry matchup, and our coverage
- 2:27will begin at eleven thirty from the Fairgrounds of the
- 2:32State of text We'll actually be up there on Friday
- 2:37with coverage and then from the Fairgrounds on Saturday morning
- 2:41with Longhorns game Day coverage with an inclusive of Cameron
- 2:46Parker and Mike Hardbollharge and Mark Henry from the fairgrounds
- 2:50at the State Fair of Texas. So they'll get to
- 2:53sit out there in the open while the Sooner fans
- 2:55walk by and flip them off and stuff like that.
- 2:57That's a regular, regular behavior there, and I should point
- 3:02out they are longer fans who go buy and flip
- 3:05off the Oklahoma game day broadcast teams that are on
- 3:07the on the field, and this is part of that
- 3:09whole deal.
- 3:10Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I can remember for years, and I do mean years,
- 3:14if you asked uh Texas people. One of the one
- 3:20of the humorous things, whether it was Mac Brown or
- 3:22long worn players, they talk about riding in on that
- 3:24bus and seeing these like eighty something year old grandma's
- 3:28flipping them off from the fairgrounds or little kids flipping
- 3:32them off for the fair grounds. And then I would
- 3:34go up and I'd cover the Oklahoma news conference and
- 3:37Bob Stoops was the coach back then, and he would say,
- 3:40yeah that Texas, oklah th oh you Texas week is
- 3:43something pretty special. Get there and those fans are, you know,
- 3:46their behaviors pretty special. They're they're flipping the off and
- 3:49telling you who's number one and all that. So they
- 3:52experienced it also from their side as well. It's part
- 3:54of the victory. All that happens between Longhorns and Sooners.
- 3:58It just works that way. That's just how that is.
- 4:01But anyway, it's an open date this week for Boath
- 4:04Texas and Oklahoma. So Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian
- 4:08asked for some opening thoughts and comments about his team
- 4:12coming out of the win over Mississippi State and going
- 4:16into the bye week.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's always great going into a bye coming off
- 4:21with victory, you know, having started the season the way
- 4:25we had.
- 4:26Speaker 1: It's good to be undefeated.
- 4:28Speaker 3: But naturally you endure some of the bumps and bruises
- 4:31and things that that all teams endure. And so I
- 4:34think the buy is coming out a really good time
- 4:36for us to get some guys healthy, to refresh out
- 4:41of our minds and our bodies, to get ready for
- 4:44another kind of three game block in the season here
- 4:47coming up here in a couple of weeks.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Now, because this is an open date on the schedule
- 4:52and a bye week for Texas, the time that they
- 4:55were going to keep Sark on the SEC Teleconference was
- 4:58going to be short. It wasn't going to be very long.
- 5:01So I don't know if he was puzzled by the
- 5:05answered the question. Fine, but remember this is the SEC
- 5:10Teleconference is a national call, so writers, in broadcasters, media
- 5:18from across the country can dial in and they can
- 5:22ask a question. So they're all welcome to do that.
- 5:26They can do that. As you might imagine, the preponderance
- 5:31of the media participating in this thing are going to
- 5:34be from SEC markets and outlets, and that includes in
- 5:42the Deep South, and it certainly include the state of Alabama.
- 5:45So the first question that Sart got was not about
- 5:49his football team, but it was about the team they
- 5:54beat last year and the quarterback they beat last year,
- 5:57Jalen Milroe of Alabama, who, of course Jalen is native Texan,
- 6:00played at Katie Tompkins but and had originally committed to
- 6:04Texas before quinn Ewers transferred in and then Milroe changed
- 6:07his commitment ended up going to Alabama and Milroe has
- 6:10really progressed and had a big game last Saturday night
- 6:13in Tuscal loose against Georgia. So Sark was asked for
- 6:16his thoughts going all the way back when he was
- 6:18recruiting Milroe, when he was still on the Alabama staff
- 6:22and what he has seen Jalen Milroe accomplish and progress
- 6:27in his time as Alabama's quarterback.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, we had Jalen in camp at Alabama and uh,
- 6:33great kid, great parents, obviously got athleticism was there, the
- 6:38arm talent was there.
- 6:41Speaker 4: I've give him a lot of credit. You know, he
- 6:42really working with developed into the revers the player. You know,
- 6:47he just doesn't rely on athleticism. He's a great de
- 6:51ball passer, extend plans in his arm, extend plenties, use
- 6:55his legs.
- 6:56Speaker 1: They use him for direct run.
- 6:57Speaker 3: So, uh, you know, you haven't a win thinking ki
- 7:01it could be early on in his high school career
- 7:03and then to watch it kind.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Of come to fruition.
- 7:05Speaker 3: I guess I'm happy for him, but I also validate
- 7:09some of the things that you see and that you're
- 7:10looking for and the next prop of guys coming up.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's a good point too. Because those were the things
- 7:15that they were looking for from Jalen Milroe. And remember
- 7:18he had his stumbles and growing pains early on, and
- 7:22he drew a lot of heat after Texas beeed Alabama
- 7:25in that game last year in September in Tuscalusa. But
- 7:29he's come a long way since. He helped guide Alabama
- 7:32to the College Football Playoff, the SEC championship in College
- 7:35Football Playoff berth and now he's the quarterback of the
- 7:39number one team in the country and the AP pole
- 7:40number two in the coaches, Texas number two and the
- 7:43AP number one in the coaches. It's that close right now.
- 7:46We'll hear more from Logrorns head coach Steve Sarkashan a
- 7:49little later on in the program. We've got some other
- 7:51topics we'll get to. We'll update the baseball for you
- 7:53as well as we continue here on this Wednesday afternoon

- 8:26now at AM thirteen hundred zone dot com. My wife
- 8:31and I've talked about that. We think he kind of
- 8:33surrendered into it a little quickly, so maybe something was
- 8:35going on there. I don't know. I mean he has
- 8:37a rock star so and this is another guy whose
- 8:41hair is amazed you, right, yes, when you look at
- 8:43the three guys from Ambrosia, right, all four of them
- 8:46ross off. Ambrosia sounds like it's one person. No, it's
- 8:50it's a bad it's a bad from the seventies and eighties.
- 8:54And they're performing in Arlington tomorrow, and since Linda and
- 8:58I had to go up to the Dallas Forward area anyway,
- 9:01and they're performing at the Arlington Music Hall, which is
- 9:04kind of like going to the Paramount here. It's a
- 9:06small venue, a theater. And she said, oh, look, I
- 9:10was like, you want to go to see Mbrosia? She said,
- 9:15because I'm a yacht rock fan. Although Ambrosia is not
- 9:18my favorite, but I don't dislike them. So she was
- 9:21interested in him, so I said, okay, so we got tickets,
- 9:25so we're gonna go see Ambrosia tomorrow. And I that's
- 9:27part of it, So that's why I wanted. That's exciting.
- 9:31We see a lot of shows together since we've been
- 9:34together since twenty eighteen, and I my first wife. She
- 9:42also liked music, and we went to some concerts together.
- 9:46And next week will be eight years since she passed away,
- 9:50so and then I was two years beyond that before
- 9:57Lynda and I bumped in each other at a going
- 10:00to see that we went to see an old friend
- 10:03play and as the first time i'd seen her in
- 10:06I think since nineteen ninety four, so it'd been like, yeah,
- 10:11I think it was twenty six years or twenty four year,
- 10:15twenty whatever. It was twenty four years I guess, since
- 10:18we'd even seen each other or something like that. And
- 10:23then it just kind of took off from there. And
- 10:25we had dated back in the early eighties for about
- 10:27a year and a half, split up state friends. She
- 10:29was at my wedding, I was, Me and my wife
- 10:32were at her wedding in ninety four. She and her
- 10:36husband had decided to divorce and then I just happened
- 10:40to randomly run into her, and it started from there well,
- 10:44once we got together, and then when she moved down here.
- 10:47Because she's a special ed counselor and was also a
- 10:50licensed professional counselor, so she has a client list that
- 10:55she counsels does mental health counseling, we started going to
- 11:02these concerts and it was because I had gotten to
- 11:07the point of my life where there were some people
- 11:09that I had and bands and artists I either had
- 11:12never seen before and always wanted to or wanted to see,
- 11:17or it was a band or artist that in my
- 11:21college days in the early eighties, I worked the concerts
- 11:25selling T shirts for the band or for the arena.
- 11:28And I did that for four years and in the
- 11:33early eighties, and so I used to tell people that
- 11:36I worked everything from ac DC to Lawrence Welk, which
- 11:39was pretty much true. I wo had worked a C
- 11:41d C concert or worked, Prince worked, Prince Yeah, Prince
- 11:45Wow right. It was the Purple Rain tour. Wow went
- 11:49on to her journey in eighty three in the Frontiers tour.
- 11:54Worked Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilo, worked All Kazizy Top All
- 12:00met Doobie Brothers, Rolling Stones, all of these, all of
- 12:03these great bands, Bob Seeger so did all these, and
- 12:07now years later, having put myself through college by working
- 12:12those shows, I wanted to have the opportunity to see
- 12:16some of these because when you're working it, you don't
- 12:18really you see glimpses of the show. You walk in
- 12:20during a song, they walk back out to your stand
- 12:22while your partner watches the stand, and then you swap off.
- 12:26So I wanted to see some So I just happened
- 12:29to mention because my broadcast partner for Long Worn Basketball,
- 12:32Eddie Orrin, and we were going to go see Bob Seger,
- 12:36who was on his last tour, and then Eddie couldn't
- 12:39do it, he had a work related conflict. So Linda
- 12:44and I by then had started to see each other,
- 12:45and I said, do you want to go see this concert?
- 12:48It's Bob Seeker and she's like, yeah, I'll go. She didn't,
- 12:51and then when she went, she loved it. She says,
- 12:52oh I remember that song, and oh I remember that song,
- 12:55and oh I remember that song. I said, I got
- 12:58a whole file folder of of shows like that that
- 13:01I want to see coming up. If you're up for it,
- 13:03she said, yeah, So then it became Eric Clapton while
- 13:05we went to that. Uh, then we saw a little
- 13:08river band in a casino then and then saw the
- 13:17Boss Gags at at at the Paramount. She gave me
- 13:21as a Christmas present because she knew how much of
- 13:22a Billy Joel fan was, and she was somewhat of
- 13:24a fan. She gave me two tickets to see Billy
- 13:27Joel at Fenway Park. At Fenway, Yeah, so I said,
- 13:30I said, it was a Christmas gift, she said, and
- 13:34opened it up. Two tickets Bill Joseah, Wow, can I
- 13:36take anybody? She says, as long as I'm the other anyway, Say,
- 13:40I was just joking. So we went. We saw Billy
- 13:42Joel there and uh and so we've seen a lot
- 13:46of concerts. It's the old Master, Herb Albert, who is
- 13:51eighty nine years old and still touring. We saw him
- 13:55last year. We've seen it, seen him a couple of times.
- 13:57Play that trumpet was great, that's what all the music
- 14:00and inconceivable that it's Herb Alpert and Tijuana brass stuff.
- 14:04So we've seen a lot of concerts and I even
- 14:08had tickets for Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks at Jerry
- 14:12World in Arlington. Couldn't go because one of Stevie Nicks's
- 14:15band members had COVID and so they postponed the show,
- 14:18and when they rescheduled the show, I couldn't go. So
- 14:21she went and took a friend of her. So I've
- 14:25kind of, you know, pulled her into the concert thing
- 14:28and then for her because she always wanted to see
- 14:31Joni Mitchell, one of the great rock legends of the
- 14:33early seventies. The day after The Long Words played Georgia year,
- 14:39We're flying to Los Angeles. I'm going to see Joni
- 14:41Mitchell at the Hollywood Bowl and then come back on
- 14:44a red eye that night, talking me back in position
- 14:46the next day when we have Sarks press conference to
- 14:48get ready for Vanderbilt. So there's that. So we're we've
- 14:52become big concert goers to the extent if we see
- 14:55other other bands and every things like oh, hey, maybe
- 14:57we want to go say and you know, and so yeah,
- 15:00tomorrow night it'll be Ambrosia. We'll go see Ambrosia tomorrow night. Hey.
- 15:07Update from Houston. The Tigers are now up one nothing
- 15:11on the astross Houston Bats in the bottom of the
- 15:14sixth inning. Top of the sixth inning, Parker Meadows with
- 15:18a solo homer to put Detroit in front. So the anxiety,
- 15:26you might say, for Astros fans might be ratcheting up
- 15:29a bit now, although they jord On Alvarez is just
- 15:32trying to walk, so they have the tying run on
- 15:35and that's just the lead off the bottom of the
- 15:38sixth inning, So still a lot of baseball left to
- 15:40be played in that one. But the Astros are down
- 15:42one nothing in the sixth inning to Detroit, and again,
- 15:45because the Tigers won Game one yesterday, if they win
- 15:50this one this afternoon, it's over. Remember, the Wildcard Series
- 15:54is just a best of three, best two out of three,
- 15:57and it's all at one site. So these first two
- 16:02games are at Minute May Park, and if there is
- 16:04a third game, that game would be at Minute May
- 16:08Park tomorrow if that happens, if there is a game three,
- 16:12but the Astros have to win to force a game three. Meanwhile,
- 16:17Kansas City and Baltimore are getting ready to start Game
- 16:22number two of their series that starts here really in
- 16:26about ten minutes. The Royals winning Game one one to nothing,
- 16:30so they lead the series one game to nine, then
- 16:33at six point thirty this evening or Mets and Brewers,
- 16:36And then at seven thirty tonight are the Braves and
- 16:39the Podres going for that? Do you have a favorite
- 16:41baseball team? By the way, I do? Yeah? Which one isn't?
- 16:46Do you want to guess first? Well, isn't your favorite?
- 16:50Did I hear one morning on when it was the
- 16:55hard Knox life before what it is now morphed into
- 16:58with the addition of Mark Henry to the program is
- 17:02now in the morning kick call? But didn't I hear
- 17:03you say that your favorite NFL team is New England
- 17:08the Patriots. That is correct? Do you have a background
- 17:13in in the New England area in the northeast? Did
- 17:17you just take did you just glom onto the Patriots
- 17:20because it was easy to bandwagon them because they were winners?
- 17:23Speaker 5: No?
- 17:23Speaker 1: In about fifth grade or so? Okay, so like two
- 17:27thousand and four or something like that. Yeah, make me
- 17:29feel little, Go ahead.
- 17:30Speaker 2: All my friends were playing a pee peewee football while
- 17:33I was running track and they all played for the Patriots.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Oh okay.
- 17:38Speaker 2: And then the high school I was supposed to go
- 17:40to before they rezoned everything, their mascot was the Patriots.
- 17:43I went to Google, and I was like, oh, I
- 17:45wonder if there's a football team for the Patriots.
- 17:48Speaker 1: There it is that's might and you happen to get
- 17:51them right in their wheelhouse when they were winning Super Bowls. Yes, okay,
- 17:54all right, no, I can respect that. I respect a
- 17:58kid locking into it team. I did that with the
- 18:01Dodgers when I was a kid because my dad used
- 18:04to tell me stories of the Yankees versus the Dodgers.
- 18:06My dad was a Yankees fan and he went to
- 18:08a couple of World Series games in the early fifties
- 18:10when the Dodgers played the Yankees. And my favorite color
- 18:14back then when I was a kid was blue, and
- 18:16the first package of baseball cards opened, it was Bill
- 18:18Russell the Dodgers short style. So I was locked in then,
- 18:21so they yet have been forever. You know, as kids,
- 18:26we tend to lock in on teams, but over time,
- 18:29I guess people get kind of frustrated if their teams
- 18:33have a stretch of losing. That's true. My oldest son,
- 18:36when he was a kid, was a Jaguars fan, and
- 18:39that was colors and logos, and they were pretty good
- 18:41back Fred Taylor, Mark Brunell had a couple of AFC
- 18:44Championship game appears. Then he went through this long dry
- 18:47spell being awful. So he just decided, I'm changing my
- 18:50favorite team to the Cowboys because I love I said,
- 18:51you're letting yourself in for a lot of heartbreak. So
- 18:54he became a Cowboy fan, and he's really a big
- 18:57Cowboy fan. My younger son was originally a Tennessee Titans
- 19:03fan because of Vince Young, but then when Vince left
- 19:06and the Titans fell off, he swapped to the Packers
- 19:09and he's been a Packer fan. I don't know how
- 19:11people just switch teams like that. I couldn't do it.
- 19:15I couldn't do it. But I know some people get
- 19:18tired of a team losing and say I'm out on him.
- 19:21Why should I devote my energies to supporting a team
- 19:27that consistently lose. This is a question, by the way,
- 19:29the Cowboys fans ask themselves annually for almost thirty years,
- 19:32that Cameron Parker, a producer regular producer of this program,
- 19:37is having his own self examination as a Cowboys fan.
- 19:41That's why he's not watching them this year at all
- 19:43at all, unless they reach the NFC Championship he watched
- 19:48him in the preseason just to see how the rosters
- 19:50come together. But he told us after they lost to
- 19:54the Packers last January in the playoffs, he said, I'm
- 19:57done with him. I said, are you done with a fan? No,
- 20:00there's still my team. I'm done watching them for now.
- 20:03Wow at the foot out the door. Yeah yeah, yeah.
- 20:06So there's some self examination going on here as a
- 20:09Cowboys fan. Now, the man for whom you produce in
- 20:12the morning, Mike Hardball Harch, he's a long suffering Cowboys fan. Correct, longtime,
- 20:16long time, by fifty years of it. Okay, well that's
- 20:18like me with the Rams. You know, went through a
- 20:21lot of Leaneers now, uh Kurt uh Yeah. But it
- 20:27predates that he goes all the way back when I
- 20:29was nine years old. In those days, what kids used
- 20:32to do is we would write letters to pro football
- 20:36and baseball and basketball teams asking for autograph pictures if
- 20:39you can get them. And I sent off several to
- 20:42different teams. The only team that responds the Rams, and
- 20:45I got this eight by ten black and white glossy
- 20:47photo autograph the quarterback Roman Gabriel. A champ never quits.
- 20:51Roman Gabriel probably immedia relations or PR person actually did that,
- 20:55but and signed his name. But it didn't matter. I
- 20:58was hooked in on the Rams day in nineteen sixty nine.
- 21:00They started that year eleven and oh and ended up
- 21:03losing in the first round of the playoffs. But I
- 21:05was hopelessly drawn into being a Rams fan with through
- 21:08a lot of heartbreak in the seventies and then didn't
- 21:11see him win a Super Bowl until they were in
- 21:12Saint Louis. But I let my fandom follow the jersey
- 21:15to Saint Louis actually win the several games in Saint Louis,
- 21:18including the Super Bowl year and and then and and
- 21:23stayed with him and that's when Kurt Warner was playing
- 21:25for them, and then following him back to LA and
- 21:28going through some lean times right now because of all
- 21:31the injuries, and they don't be good right now. But
- 21:33you you just got your sid. I feel like, I know, hey, yeah,
- 21:36they won a Super Bowl three years ago, so I'm
- 21:38I'm okay for a while. Yeah, yeah, yeah, That's how
- 21:42I was with the Dodgers winning one in eighty eight.
- 21:43But I'm going to tell you, by the time I
- 21:44got the twenty twenty, I was like, I come on.
- 21:47So they finally broke through in one one, so hopefully
- 21:50they can do it again this year. So anyway, nothing,
- 21:53It's unusual when your favorite teams, uh, when they let
- 21:58you down as not unusual when they finally went And
- 22:01I've said this, I said this after the Rams win
- 22:03the Super Bowl. I said after the Dodgers won the
- 22:05World Series. Every sports fan, every one in the United States,
- 22:12every American sports fan who is a real dedicated fan
- 22:18of eighteen should get to experience at least one time
- 22:21in their lifetime their team winning a world championship. Oh definitely,
- 22:25you know, as a reward for that. Now, you never
- 22:28did tell me you're your favorite baseball team, the Red Sox. Well,
- 22:30that makes sense. And my youngest son is a Red
- 22:32Sox fan because his first two t ball teams and
- 22:35little league team were Red Sox or Red Sox.
- 22:37Speaker 2: There you go.
- 22:37Speaker 1: So you've gotten a chance to see them win multiple titles,
- 22:41which is funny since he went eighty six years without
- 22:44winning one and then two thousand and four, in two
- 22:47thousand and seven and thirteen and eighteen. You know, so
- 22:51you got a chance to see them win multip over
- 22:53and over. Yeah. Yeah, So it's been nice. You've had
- 22:55an embarrassment of riches there all right, more coming up,
- 22:58will update the baseball for you. Going on with the
- 23:00playoffs here on Sports Radio Am thirteen D Here on
- 23:02this yacht Rock Wednesday. Astros with a golden opportunity right now.
- 23:07John Singleman at the plate. The bases are loaded and
- 23:10nobody out for Houston in the bottom of the seventh inning,
- 23:13and the Astros just got the tying run home. There
- 23:19was a tried for a force of the plate off
- 23:21a hot smash and they couldn't hold it. So the
- 23:23Astros have tie it, tied it. The bases are still
- 23:26loaded and there's still nobody out. So here's the opportunity
- 23:30for the Astros to bounce back. We'll keep you updated
- 23:33on that. Orioles and Royals just now getting started. When
- 23:36you hear from long worn men's basketball coach Rodney Terry,
- 23:40this was from the media availability yesterday and one of
- 23:43the things that we asked Rodney about was injury updates.
- 23:50Tremont Mark, who is the transfer who had been at
- 23:53Arkansas and an excellent player, had had to fight through
- 23:57some injury. But it looks like he is very much
- 23:59on the man in. Nick Cody is a guy, a
- 24:01freshman coming in that they say they're doubt not going
- 24:03to rush. But here's Rodnie Terry talking about those two guys.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, Trey mant is one of the you know,
- 24:09he got nicked up Ernie uh and uh in in
- 24:12in our workouts to start last week. And uh had
- 24:16just a really just my mild kind of growing area
- 24:19a little bit and everything. But he's coming along right now.
- 24:22Training staff has done a great job working with him.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Uh. We look to have him back in in.
- 24:27Speaker 6: Forll tilt here over the next couple of days. Uh,
- 24:29nothing major with him and stuff. He's played a lot
- 24:32of basketball and and things, but we need to get
- 24:35him out there and get used to playing with his teammates.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Uh.
- 24:37Speaker 1: But but we looked to have him here shortly. Uh.
- 24:40Speaker 6: Nick Cody has made a lot of progress. He's a
- 24:43guy again, a young player that has a high ceiling.
- 24:46We're not gonna rush him back. He had surgery uh
- 24:48in February, and and uh we're gonna we're gonna play
- 24:51the long game with him and at the short game.
- 24:53So so we have the luxury kind of doing that
- 24:55right now a little bit. But getting him stronger. Uh,
- 24:59and just he's really taking out of.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Time with him. Haven't been around these guys. So that's
- 25:05that's a one bit of sound right there. We'll let
- 25:08you know. Also, the Asters are now taking a lead.
- 25:10Jose Altuve with a sacrifice five is a pop up
- 25:14deep in foul territory down the first baseline, but it
- 25:16allowed the time run to score from third. So Houston
- 25:20now has its first lead of the postseason. And the
- 25:24young man job, the rookie that so much excitement about him,
- 25:27he's the one that had the struggle in the inning
- 25:30now and he is out of the ball game right now.
- 25:32Houston has the lead as they bat with one out
- 25:35of runners on the corners in the bottom of the
- 25:36seventh inning, it is two to one. The Astros lead
- 25:39the Tigers. Now. One other piece of sound for Brodney Terry.
- 25:43And this was a question that I actually asked him
- 25:47yesterday because Ronnie mentioned when somebody somebody asked him. I
- 25:52think it was our friend Thomas Jones of the Austin
- 25:55American Statesman who asked him, you know, what are your
- 25:59impressions here? And he goes, well, I've been with these
- 26:02guys for three months though, it's not early presents for me,
- 26:07he said, it'd be more like for you. But as
- 26:10a follow up to that, later I asked him, I said,
- 26:13because you've been around these guys several months now, it
- 26:17has anyone progressed or accelerated their development a little faster
- 26:26than perhaps you might have anticipated to be as it
- 26:30was yesterday on the first of October. Originally, well, I.
- 26:34Speaker 6: Think you know even you know, last year, you guy,
- 26:36I saw a great version of Kendall Weaver, you know
- 26:38from from a guy who came in and made winning
- 26:41plays to help us win games, especially from the defensive
- 26:44side of the ball. But as the season continued to
- 26:47go and we got deeper in the conference play, we
- 26:50asked him to score the ball a little bit more
- 26:52as well driving the basketball, you know, shooting the ball
- 26:55when you're open. I thought he did a great job
- 26:57attack in this spring, in this summer. I mean, he's
- 27:00a very confident player right now, and and and a
- 27:03guy that's gonna keep a lot of defense honest right now.
- 27:06In terms of scoring the basketball, I mean, he had
- 27:07twelve points a game and in NC tournament played for
- 27:10us last year, you know, so he was a guy
- 27:13that that that stepped up and scored for us as well.
- 27:16So I look for him to be a guy that's
- 27:18more offensive minded. We know what he's gonna do defensive wise,
- 27:21and the effort that he's gonna give us, multiple efforts
- 27:24he's gonna give us, Uh out there on the floor.
- 27:28You know what I'm thinking of anyone? I think, you know,
- 27:30Devon Pryor has made a lot of progress as a
- 27:32young player. He's still just scratching the surface on how
- 27:35good he's really gonna be.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Uh.
- 27:37Speaker 6: But but a good young player who you know, has
- 27:40had a full year with us now didn't have a
- 27:42summer last year. He's gotten stronger. Uh and uh, you
- 27:46know he's a guy that has a very high center
- 27:48as a as a young player.
- 27:49Speaker 1: All Right, So there it is. Some comments from Rodney Tabor.
- 27:54Will have some more from RT coming up next hour,
- 27:57uh and some more from Longbarns head coach Steve Arqisian.
- 28:01The bottom of the seventh is now over. The Tigers
- 28:04got the final out there, but the Astros have taken
- 28:07the lead two runs in the last of the seventh
- 28:10and Houston is on top by a score of two
- 28:12to one. And again the Astros have to win that
- 28:15game in order to force a third game tomorrow. Meanwhile,
- 28:19Kansas City jumped on top of Baltimore again. You know,
- 28:23they won game one yesterday with getting just one run
- 28:28and that was on an RBI single on the top
- 28:29of the sixth inning from Bobby Witt Junior. Yesterday. That
- 28:33happened today. The Royals have wasted no time as they
- 28:39got an RBI single in the top of the first
- 28:43inning and as a result of that, they now have
- 28:47the lead. It is one to nothing off that Benny
- 28:50Pasquentino had the RBI single to put Kansas City in front.
- 28:53It's won nothing the Royals and if they win that game,
- 28:56that series ends in Baltimore and they would move on
- 28:59to New York to take on the Yankees. Winner of
- 29:01this Houston Detroit series will then travel to I'm trying
- 29:10to remember who's the Cleveland to take on the Guardians,
- 29:13who get a bye. So the winner, the winner of
- 29:16this series between the Astros and the Tigers would take
- 29:19on Cleveland. In the American League Division Series, the Yankees
- 29:23face the winner of Baltimore and Kansas City, and then
- 29:26in the National League that Mets Brewers series winner will
- 29:30travel to Philadelphia in the Division Series this weekend against
- 29:32the Phillies. The Padres Brave Series winner will take on
- 29:36the Dodgers beginning Saturday night in Los Angeles. We'll be
- 29:39back to wrap up hour number two of the program
- 29:41here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
- 29:43the IRT Radio app Again eyebrow raising results happening so
- 29:49far in Major League Baseball in the playoffs and the
- 29:54Wildcard so the only thing, the only one that has
- 29:58not been any kind of real surprise, has been the
- 30:04one in San Diego. The Padres shut out the Braves
- 30:07last night four to nothing. Fernando Tattis Junior at a
- 30:10monstrous home run in the game. Michael Kelly pitched really
- 30:13well at the start for the Padres. It will be
- 30:15hard to beat. Gene Watson, you know, our MLB insider
- 30:20from the Chicago White Sox front office, joined us on
- 30:22the program yesterday. He picked the potteryis to win the
- 30:24World Series, all of it. He picked him to win
- 30:28the Wildcard series of the Braves. He picked them to
- 30:30beat the Dodgers in the Division Series and then to
- 30:33beat the Phillies in the National League Championship Series. And
- 30:38then he said the San Diego Padres would win the
- 30:41World Series over the Cleveland Guardians. He thinks the Guardians.
- 30:45And again, the Guardians get the winner of this Detroit
- 30:48Houston series. And again, if the Tigers find a way
- 30:52to win this thing, and it's two to two in
- 30:53the eighth right now, and they've got two runners on
- 30:56with two outs, including the go ahead running and scoring
- 30:59position at second, Ryan Presley's out of the pen. Now
- 31:01for Houston, if they find a way to get the
- 31:03lead in this and now the bases are loaded on
- 31:06a walk. If they find a way to get the lead,
- 31:08and then they win that series, you'd have one of
- 31:11the favorites, one of the hotter teams going into the postseason.
- 31:14Houston out and too straight at home. But it's not
- 31:19done yet. There are two outs in the inning and
- 31:22there's going to be a pitching change there at minute
- 31:25they park. The Astros have to win to force a
- 31:28final game tomorrow, so that that has to happen. And
- 31:34then and Josh Hader I think is coming out of
- 31:36the Houston pen. And then same thing with Baltimore. Baltimore
- 31:40was one of the hotter teams. They had slumped a
- 31:42little bit and then got hotting in right toward the end.
- 31:45Kansas City had done the exact same thing after having
- 31:48this incredible season, what with Kansas City losing over one
- 31:53hundred games last year and a great season this year
- 31:57for the Royals to get to the Wild Round. And
- 32:01we'll see what happens in that series in Baltimore and again,
- 32:05if they win one more than they go on to
- 32:08New York. So now we go on. We get ready
- 32:12to go on to the next next hour of the program.
- 32:18We got one more hour of the program to bring you,
- 32:23and when we get going in this final hour of
- 32:27the program, we'll be joined relatively early in the hour
- 32:37by the play by play voice of the Houston Texans,
- 32:40Mark Vandermere. He'll join us. Well, here's some more from
- 32:43Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkeesian. We will also care
- 32:48more from Rodney Terry coming up, and we'll keep you
- 32:51updated on these baseball playoff games going on as well. Listen,
- 32:56you only got me for one more hour of the
- 32:58rest of the week because of in fact, I'll be
- 33:00out tomorrow on Friday, but we do have one more
- 33:02hour of the show if you come, and so that's
- 33:05coming your way. Here our number three of the program
- 33:07right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone'm
- 33:10where you can always listen to for free on the
- 33:13iHeartRadio Act.
- 33:23Speaker 5: You're listening to Sports Radio Way. I'm thirteen hundred ZOO.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Teen hundred the Zone.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Listen on the free iHeartRadio app for all your sports
- 33:37podcasts and music. It's the Craig Wave Show with the
- 33:47voice of the Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcaster
- 33:52Craig Way.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Third and final hour of the program here on sports
- 34:05Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone and Craig Way with you here.
- 34:12Hopefully the producer Cameron Parker will be feeling better tomorrow.
- 34:18I hurt his back and so we'll see how he
- 34:21does and hopefully he'll be better. Also, Andrews m will
- 34:23be on the program tomorrow'm mount tomorrow and Friday. But
- 34:26we have Khalil Randall running things and keeping us on
- 34:30the air of this afternoon, so we have one more
- 34:35hour of the program, the Updating the baseball for you
- 34:39right now. Houston and Detroit tied it to Tiger's batting
- 34:42with the bases loaded and two outs on the top
- 34:45of the eighth inning. Most of the scoring has happened
- 34:48late in this contest. In fact, a basis loaded walk?
- 34:54Is that what? It was? A basis loaded walk issued
- 34:56by Josh Is it well? I said, no, I guess
- 34:59it was just time called out of that. So the
- 35:01base is still loaded with two outs. Yeah, it was
- 35:04a basis loaded walk, and the Tigers have taken the
- 35:06lead again. It's three to two. Josh Hater just issued
- 35:09a basis loaded walk with two outs in the eight
- 35:12Spencer Torklesen drew the walk and has just gone the
- 35:16first base, and Detroy has now gone back in front
- 35:19of Houston. It is three to two. Is the Tiger's
- 35:21bat in the top of the eighth inning with two outs,
- 35:23and that against Josh Hater, the closer. So that's what's
- 35:26happened in this game. I say it was a basis
- 35:30loaded walk torkles and went down the first I guess
- 35:33it just loaded the bases there and the graphic headed
- 35:35walks on the bases are still two two. Sorry and
- 35:38mena Panicastros fans there watching on a very very small
- 35:42monitor and it didn't have the out UH indicator listed
- 35:45on there. They do now it's still just two two.
- 35:48It's not a three to two Bogging it's two two.
- 35:50The bases are loaded now though, as Josh Hater issued
- 35:54a two out walk, so Tiger's still batting two to two.
- 35:58Top of the eight two outs. Kansas City continues to
- 36:01leave Baltimore. It's one to nothing as the Royals lead
- 36:04the Oriols. That's in the top of the second inning,
- 36:06and that contest at the Oriel Park at Camden Yards,
- 36:10So we'll keep you updated on those. Walmart's head coach
- 36:13Steve Sarkisian took part in the SEC teleconference today and
- 36:20one of the questions that he was asked was about
- 36:24the thing about learning to play with emotion but not
- 36:29play emotion is It's something we've heard sark mentioned quite
- 36:32a bit in the past. He says, we want our
- 36:33guys to play with emotion, but we don't want them
- 36:36to play emotionally, and he explained how he came into
- 36:40that mindset. Like with so many other things, all roads
- 36:44lead back to Nick Saban.
- 36:45Speaker 3: I had a hard time putting it into words. Coach
- 36:49Saban more eloquently used this term that I'm referencing that
- 36:54I kind of took with me because it really resonated
- 36:56with me. I didn't know how to say it, but
- 36:59I knew and then once he said it the way
- 37:02that he said it, like I said, it resonated with
- 37:04me and I'll kind of carried it with me ever since.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Okay, all right, that was That was one thing, and
- 37:08then one other question he was asked. And is a
- 37:12lot of experience in this, and it's all about the
- 37:16backup quarterback. When Sartan played at BYU, really, even when
- 37:20he played at El Camuno Community College in California, he
- 37:25had been a backup quarterback and then and then had
- 37:28a great sophomore season. Then he went to BYU and
- 37:33rolled in initially as a backup and then became the
- 37:35starter and had a great finish to his collegiate career
- 37:38at BYU. UH since he has been the head coach
- 37:42at Texas, he has had to turn to the backup
- 37:45quarterback on several occasions. That has happened as well. So
- 37:51because of that, it has been a situation where he's
- 37:57you know, you think about it when he had had
- 37:58some card on back and Casey Thompson was there and
- 38:02all of that sort of thing. And of course since
- 38:06Quinn Yours has been the starter, he's had to turn
- 38:09to the backup quarterback, but that was due to injury,
- 38:11Malik Murphy having to come on for Quinn the last
- 38:15couple of seasons, and then of course earlier the season
- 38:18arch Manning having to step in when Quinn was injured.
- 38:22So he was asked about that and about getting the
- 38:25backup quarterbacks reps so that they can be well prepared
- 38:29for the eventuality if he has to go to a
- 38:32backup quarterback.
- 38:33Speaker 3: And when I was a starter, I never wanted the
- 38:35backup to coming to the game, even for a play.
- 38:38And I remember my senior year of college, I have
- 38:41been banged up and the coaches wanted to run a
- 38:45quarterback draw. Honey, you're not. They called the play, and
- 38:51they called the play and I scored a touchdown. So
- 38:55I've got respect for a guy who's the starting quarterback
- 38:57and the rhythm that it's needed to play with. So
- 39:00now that's not something I've ever entertained.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Okay, So there it is, and some thoughts there from
- 39:09Longhorn's head coach Steve Sarkishan. Okay, in Houston, it has
- 39:16been broken open, at least for the moment. A big
- 39:22two out bases clearing double by Pinch hitter andy A
- 39:29Bonyez has cleared off the bases and the Tigers have
- 39:33taken a five to two lead on the Astros. Astros
- 39:35just recorded the final out of the inning, but at
- 39:38Bonyees with a bass clearing double to score three runs,
- 39:43and the Astros are down to six outs left in
- 39:45their season right now, going to the bottom of the eight.
- 39:46Tigers up five to two, having one game one yesterday
- 39:50three to one. We'll keep you updated on that, all right.
- 39:53Coming up next, we'll visit with the play by play
- 39:56voice of the Houston Texans, Mark vandermir to talk about
- 39:59the Texans and their battles in the AFC South. That's
- 40:01next when we continue here on this Wednesday afternoon on
- 40:04Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
