- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily Pad production.
- 0:05Speaker 2: This is the team up Play Show Podcast. Hey, welcome
- 0:22Speaker 2: to the team of Play Show Podcast. My name is
- 0:25Speaker 2: Johnny Wilson. Great, we're done.
- 0:30Speaker 1: The eyebrow raise indicated he wanted us to do something.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Somebody else, say your name or do you want me
- 0:36Speaker 2: to introduce you? I don't want to talk so much.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm Stephanie Fackler.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm Ethan Goldman, the original mc tickler bed the lost
- 0:48Speaker 2: McDonald's character, the McK tickler he was cut for obviously
- 0:55Speaker 2: deeply problematic. I don't get it. So the what is
- 1:03Speaker 2: this show? If you clicked on this, if you clicked
- 1:06Speaker 2: on this this episode, it means you're maybe wondering what
- 1:11Speaker 2: this show is. And that's what this episode is about.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It's about explaining this show what it is and what
- 1:17Speaker 2: we're going to do. We're going to talk about what
- 1:21Speaker 2: the show is, We're going to talk about what game
- 1:23Speaker 2: we're using, and we're going to talk about the world
- 1:26Speaker 2: in which season one will happen. And then we'll give
- 1:30Speaker 2: some tasty spoilers for future stuff.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So tasty spoilers.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know that. Well, I came full of food.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I'm sorry, First, what is the show? I think I
- 1:47Speaker 2: want to hear what you guys want this show to be.
- 1:49Speaker 2: But overall, this is an improvised, cooperative storytelling long form podcast.
- 1:59Speaker 2: That's a lot of qualify qualifiers, but we're doing improv
- 2:04Speaker 2: so there won't be too much planned. I will do
- 2:07Speaker 2: a lot of the planning, but I do just a
- 2:10Speaker 2: lot of bullet notes for the planning. It is cooperative.
- 2:15Speaker 2: We're all going to be telling the story together. It
- 2:18Speaker 2: is long form, so it'll be a long time and
- 2:23Speaker 2: it's a podcast. So that's what that is. About superheroes.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Oh yeah, about superheroes. Uh, we want to tell superhero
- 2:33Speaker 2: stories in this medium. This is kind of a new medium.
- 2:37Speaker 2: We're like using a game to cooperatively, improvably tell a
- 2:41Speaker 2: long form story, and we want to do that for
- 2:45Speaker 2: the superheroes. So that's the that's the goal.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Uh huh. The SoundBite I've heard is that there. It's
- 2:57Speaker 2: it's the modern day mythos. That's what people say, that's
- 3:01Speaker 2: superos all the time.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yes, Oh it's super true our current pantheon.
- 3:06Speaker 2: M m yeah, modern day mythology, that's for sure. We're
- 3:09Speaker 2: going to add to that.
- 3:12Speaker 1: We're gonna have like one one more little altar in
- 3:16Speaker 1: the in the square.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Yes, square, We're going to blow out the blow out
- 3:20Speaker 3: the sidewall of that pantheon.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Put on a little chapel.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly to us. You're thinking bigger, you're thinking bigger,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you're thinking chapel. I just wanted like one little, one,
- 3:30Speaker 1: little fountain, maybe a.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Little shrine, Yeah, just a corner of existing structure. Yeah,
- 3:39Speaker 2: so we this what is this show? That's the first
- 3:42Speaker 2: question we're answering. We're all improvisers. We've been improvising for
- 3:47Speaker 2: over a decade each of us.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Right, mm hmm, this is my twenty year Oh wow anniversary.
- 3:56Speaker 4: What is the twentieth anniversary for improv I would assume
- 4:00Speaker 4: it's like a chair.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you finally get it, finally get it that doesn't fold.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a real chair chair, a wooden chair painted
- 4:10Speaker 2: black like the stage. Wow. Congrats, dude, classy. Thanks, And
- 4:16Speaker 2: it's crazy because I'm only twenty two years Get all
- 4:25Speaker 2: to you. You're a baby. Yeah, it was a baby
- 4:28Speaker 2: when I started doing.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So.
- 4:32Speaker 2: We're all improvisors. We all in our own ways love superheroes.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, definitely, quick quick round of favorite superheroes.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Oh sure, pressures on my Like. One of my oldest
- 4:51Speaker 1: loves of superheroes was Starfire on Teen Titans because that was, yeah,
- 4:57Speaker 1: like something I watched as a kid.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Hell yeah, yeah, I'm a I'm a Daredevil stand forever.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I just read a new Daredevil book last night. Not new,
- 5:08Speaker 2: but it new to me that I had never read before. Ben,
- 5:12Speaker 2: you ever read End of Days Daredevil? End of Days
- 5:15Speaker 2: have not damned? Maybe that's why I couldn't sleep last night.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I kept me up. I couldn't stop reading it, and
- 5:21Speaker 2: it fucking knocked my ass off. It was amazing.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Highly recommend I slept through all of that, the ass
- 5:30Speaker 1: falling off through all of it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: That's good. It wasn't pretty.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. And Raven. How could I not shout
- 5:38Speaker 1: out Raven from Teen Titans? Yeah, both of those ladies.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, heart agree. We were at Batman House growing up,
- 5:47Speaker 2: so teen Titans is an extension of that with Robin
- 5:51Speaker 2: as the leader, but the best Robin. Wow, I don't
- 5:55Speaker 2: you know, Dick Grayson shout out.
- 5:57Speaker 4: I feel like, yeah, I don't like. My context for
- 6:01Speaker 4: Batman was like Teen Titans and then Batman begins.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That was.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Well Batman the Animated Series is like one of the
- 6:11Speaker 5: best superhero things that exists.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I keep hearing that it is. Maybe I should watch it.
- 6:17Speaker 2: We can watch it.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm not done, and then I can record my thoughts.
- 6:21Speaker 3: Yeah, if I want step to watch Batman Beyond, that's
- 6:25Speaker 3: what I want. Step to Batman Beyond.
- 6:27Speaker 2: You get to earn Batman Beyond, you do, though, that's
- 6:30Speaker 2: the problem. Batman Beyond is very much like a spiritual
- 6:33Speaker 2: sequel to Batman the Animated Series, So that would be
- 6:37Speaker 2: a fun trip for us. All Right, the podcast has
- 6:39Speaker 2: a new direction now if you guys want us to
- 6:42Speaker 2: listen to watch all of Batman the Animated Series and
- 6:46Speaker 2: then review.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, just through Batman the Animated Series, the New Adventures
- 6:51Speaker 3: of Batman and Robin, the Batman and Superman specials in
- 6:55Speaker 3: Justice League, and Batman Beyond.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Just let us know, because well, we'll do it for
- 7:00Speaker 2: five dollars.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I did watch Under the Red Hood when our improv
- 7:05Speaker 1: team in college. I watched it together in that dark classroom.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's a great follow up questions about thanks to Ben
- 7:11Speaker 1: and Johnny.
- 7:13Speaker 2: It's a great movie that holds up. So what is
- 7:17Speaker 2: this show? Though? We've I think we've answered the question
- 7:20Speaker 2: my favorite Spider Man.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, I mean yeah yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Is there more you want to say?
- 7:27Speaker 1: No?
- 7:27Speaker 3: No, I was really tor between Batman and Spider Man,
- 7:30Speaker 3: but Ethan taking Batman really freed me up.
- 7:33Speaker 2: So thank you, You're welcome. Spider Man's great.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah what I just thought?
- 7:39Speaker 2: That was it?
- 7:40Speaker 1: Spider Man's great.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Spider Man's great. So this show, they'll never release a
- 7:45Speaker 2: Spider Man thing that we won't want to see. That's
- 7:49Speaker 2: my take. Have you watched Marbius, No, that doesn't count.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Have you ever watched Craven though? Those don't. Have you
- 7:56Speaker 2: watched Medimal Web? Spider Man is not in though movie.
- 8:01Speaker 2: He's implied it's Spider Man adjacent. All right, I get
- 8:05Speaker 2: that they're villains. I understand they're bad. Anyway, what's the
- 8:10Speaker 2: show about? I think we answered it. It's a long
- 8:14Speaker 2: form improv show about superheroes. We want to tell superhero stories. Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 2: we want to tell superhero stories where you're playing team up.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That's the new exciting part YEP, that's the next part
- 8:31Speaker 2: of this episode. Is what game are we using? So
- 8:36Speaker 2: in this world of play shows.
- 8:38Speaker 1: I was taking a breath like we were all going
- 8:39Speaker 1: to say it together.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Your question, what game are we using? Team Yay?
- 8:46Speaker 1: That was cute. Thank you for doing that for me.
- 8:48Speaker 2: In this world of we teamed up, in this world
- 8:52Speaker 2: of play shows, with all of these different game systems
- 8:57Speaker 2: you can use, we have decided to create our our
- 9:00Speaker 2: own called Team Up and Smart. Yeah, it's the easiest
- 9:05Speaker 2: thing to do. It was a lazy thing to do.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It is a lazy thing to do. Even though it
- 9:09Speaker 2: took me so long and so much hard work. It
- 9:14Speaker 2: is lazy.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It was so lazy for you to spend hours and
- 9:17Speaker 1: days and years at your computer building a game.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yes, very lazy, but hey, I did it. We're using
- 9:27Speaker 2: Team up to tell the story. Team up is built
- 9:30Speaker 2: to tell stories. It's specifically built for this kind of
- 9:36Speaker 2: format to get to tell stories together. What are some
- 9:41Speaker 2: things about Team up that make that easier for us
- 9:45Speaker 2: to make that accessible to like, get to tell stories
- 9:49Speaker 2: in this way.
- 9:50Speaker 4: I mean, the first thing that comes to mind is
- 9:52Speaker 4: getting to pick my own superpowers. I'm not having to
- 9:57Speaker 4: like Cheehorn a hero that I want to play into
- 10:01Speaker 4: other things that are already created for me, or trying
- 10:05Speaker 4: to skin something. It's just this is like the kind
- 10:09Speaker 4: of hero I want to be and I write it
- 10:11Speaker 4: down and there she is. Yeah, it's cool. I'd also
- 10:15Speaker 4: say that combat for this game. I mean, any ttrpg
- 10:18Speaker 4: has combat, but the Team Ups combat is very reactionary,
- 10:23Speaker 4: it's very interwoven. It like lends itself to collaboration. And
- 10:27Speaker 4: also each player's turn is super quick and simple, and
- 10:32Speaker 4: so there's not so much downtime in combat. It feels
- 10:35Speaker 4: every every player's turn feels like a comic book panel
- 10:38Speaker 4: to me, where it's like wham baff like it just
- 10:41Speaker 4: flows in a much faster way than I'm used to
- 10:43Speaker 4: for other TRPGs, which is exciting.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Wambiv bamp Yeah, wambib bamp.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Bamp take that out please, I don't know how to
- 10:55Speaker 1: say it again.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Okay, all right, let's just all say our favorite super
- 11:00Speaker 5: we're here on a monopiea sounds that they make on
- 11:02Speaker 5: the kind of three one two three.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Fab Maria Bamford, how.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Maybe pop actually pop?
- 11:15Speaker 2: So yeah, we're using Team Up. We have episodes. They
- 11:22Speaker 2: won't be in this feed, but if you want to
- 11:23Speaker 2: go to our patreon you can see them for free.
- 11:27Speaker 2: They are how to play Team Up episodes, which we
- 11:30Speaker 2: really encourage you to go check out because if we
- 11:34Speaker 2: start kind of moving into this story and you're really
- 11:37Speaker 2: engaged in the story, but then we do a role
- 11:39Speaker 2: and you're like, why would they do that role? What
- 11:41Speaker 2: does that mean? It might not make much sense to
- 11:44Speaker 2: you at first, So we really encourage you to go
- 11:48Speaker 2: listen to those how to episodes and download the download
- 11:52Speaker 2: the game, and you can follow along that way and
- 11:55Speaker 2: bring Team Up to your own tables. Anything else about
- 11:58Speaker 2: Team Up, y'all want to say? I like it? Uh huh, Yeah,
- 12:03Speaker 2: it's good game.
- 12:06Speaker 3: It's built for telling these kind of stories, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 3: and there's a lot of systems that are made for
- 12:11Speaker 3: telling different kinds of stories, both in the role playing
- 12:14Speaker 3: and the combat. I feel like I'm echoing with Stephanie
- 12:17Speaker 3: Ethan talked about, but I've tried to, you know, force
- 12:21Speaker 3: superhero stories into some other systems. But I yeah, I
- 12:25Speaker 3: think building it from the ground up was the right
- 12:27Speaker 3: move so that we can yet marry a game system
- 12:32Speaker 3: with the kind of stories we want to tell.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Hey, Johnny here cutting in with something else that I
- 12:41Speaker 2: want to say about the game. I'm going to go
- 12:44Speaker 2: ahead and give you some Team Up game rules that
- 12:47Speaker 2: will come up a lot in the play show. You
- 12:49Speaker 2: can definitely go read the manual and listen to our
- 12:51Speaker 2: how two episodes on our Patreon, But this is a
- 12:54Speaker 2: quick little boot camp of rules just for you to
- 12:57Speaker 2: get by first. There are a lot of checks. You'll
- 13:01Speaker 2: hear me asking for checks. In the play show. Each
- 13:04Speaker 2: character has thirteen skills. They had to assign a specific
- 13:08Speaker 2: die from the polyhedral set to each of those skills.
- 13:11Speaker 2: So unlike D and D where you're rolling a D
- 13:13Speaker 2: twenty for everything and just adding a bonus, you put
- 13:16Speaker 2: a specific die like your D six or your D
- 13:19Speaker 2: eight on a specific skill and you roll that. But
- 13:21Speaker 2: then each character gets to create their own powers, and
- 13:25Speaker 2: then each of those powers gets a power die based
- 13:29Speaker 2: on how much energy it has, and you can add
- 13:31Speaker 2: that to those skill check rolls. That's called empowering a check.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So you're going to hear them do that a lot.
- 13:38Speaker 2: They're going to try to add their powers to a
- 13:40Speaker 2: certain skill check. Negotiate with me if they're allowed to
- 13:44Speaker 2: do that. And what they are trying to beat is
- 13:47Speaker 2: the game director's threshold. So every time I, as the
- 13:51Speaker 2: game runner, ask for a check, I also have to
- 13:54Speaker 2: roll a threshold die based on how difficult the check is.
- 13:58Speaker 2: The harder the check, the bigger the die. This makes
- 14:00Speaker 2: it fun because I can always roll low, even if
- 14:03Speaker 2: it's supposed to be a very hard check. It's really
- 14:05Speaker 2: geared towards those big superhero like fantastical moments, big swings.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Always try because there's a chance, always chance, you could
- 14:16Speaker 2: do it. They're gonna be rolling a lot of checks.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna be asking for skill checks. They're going to
- 14:21Speaker 2: be trying to add their powers to those skill checks,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and what they're trying to do is beat my role.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Another thing that will be helpful for you to know
- 14:29Speaker 2: is that you'll notice when we get to combat characters,
- 14:32Speaker 2: turns can go very very quickly. That's because you only
- 14:34Speaker 2: get to do one thing per turn. In Team Up.
- 14:37Speaker 2: It's kind of like splitting up your whole turn in
- 14:40Speaker 2: D and D. So in D and D you have
- 14:41Speaker 2: your movement, you have your attack, you have your bonus action,
- 14:44Speaker 2: you have free action, and you can do all of
- 14:46Speaker 2: that in just your one turn. In Team Up, we
- 14:49Speaker 2: kind of split all that up, so you can only
- 14:51Speaker 2: do your movement, you can only do your attack, you
- 14:53Speaker 2: can only do a utility action. We find that this
- 14:57Speaker 2: makes combat a lot quicker and more reactionary, which is
- 15:00Speaker 2: great for a superhero story. Nothing ever against D and D.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We just wanted to do something a little different. You'll
- 15:08Speaker 2: notice also that sometimes we go into a series of
- 15:12Speaker 2: episodes that are downtime. Downtime in Team Up is there
- 15:16Speaker 2: to force players to make some difficult decisions. This simulates
- 15:21Speaker 2: the superhero stories that we love that do the same thing,
- 15:24Speaker 2: where heroes have to choose between saving people or investing
- 15:27Speaker 2: in their life unmasked or resting, or keeping tabs on
- 15:31Speaker 2: the city, or going on a date with their girlfriend,
- 15:33Speaker 2: whatever it is. In Team Up, you have to give
- 15:36Speaker 2: a number zero four to each of these categories. That
- 15:39Speaker 2: means something's going to get that zero and it's not
- 15:42Speaker 2: going to get the attention that it needs.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Now.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Something else that might be confusing as you listen is l's.
- 15:48Speaker 2: L stands for length and it represents a cube of
- 15:52Speaker 2: about twenty feet. This is the system that Team Up
- 15:55Speaker 2: uses for distance. If a character is in the same
- 15:58Speaker 2: L as an enemy, there considered close up. If they
- 16:01Speaker 2: are three or more l's away, you're considered at range.
- 16:05Speaker 2: We use ls because superhero combat can be very vertical
- 16:08Speaker 2: and span over a great distance, so keeping those ls
- 16:13Speaker 2: in the single digit or very low double digit numbers.
- 16:17Speaker 2: It keeps us from getting into the minutia of having
- 16:20Speaker 2: to calculate hundreds of feet at one time. Also, because
- 16:24Speaker 2: being close up is within twenty feet, there is some
- 16:28Speaker 2: movement on a non movement turn that is allowed and
- 16:32Speaker 2: imagined within that l Now a true cornerstone of Team
- 16:36Speaker 2: up is energy points or you'll probably hear us saying EPs.
- 16:42Speaker 2: In Team Up, the players are given a set amount
- 16:44Speaker 2: of these energy points at level one and are given
- 16:47Speaker 2: more every time they level up. These EPs have two functions. First,
- 16:52Speaker 2: the max number of EPs of power has determines all
- 16:56Speaker 2: the stats of the power, like what die you roll
- 16:59Speaker 2: for attacking or empower checks it's range, how far you
- 17:03Speaker 2: can move with it if it's a movement power, and
- 17:05Speaker 2: how much support it gives as a buffing or a
- 17:08Speaker 2: healing power. So that's the first thing. The second thing
- 17:11Speaker 2: is that the number of EPs also acts as a
- 17:13Speaker 2: kind of currency forgetting to do special things with that power.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So you'll hear me saying that costs an energy. For instance,
- 17:19Speaker 2: if you want to team up with a team member
- 17:21Speaker 2: to do a very powerful attack, you can, but it
- 17:23Speaker 2: costs energy. If you want to attack twice in one round.
- 17:27Speaker 2: You can, but it costs energy, and there are some
- 17:29Speaker 2: other things that cost energy. But those are the main
- 17:33Speaker 2: ideas that I think will help you listen to the
- 17:36Speaker 2: Team Up playctio podcast without feeling like you're lost. If
- 17:40Speaker 2: you want a better grasp of all of Team Up's rules,
- 17:43Speaker 2: then read chapter two of our manual. It goes over
- 17:46Speaker 2: all the basic definitions in language for important rules like this.
- 17:50Speaker 2: You can find the manual at teamuparpg dot com or
- 17:53Speaker 2: download it as a pdf on Patreon dot com slash
- 17:56Speaker 2: Team up RPG. Okay, let's get back to this session
- 18:00Speaker 2: zero and have fun learning about season one of our
- 18:03Speaker 2: Team Up Play show podcast, The City of bones Hell. Yeah. Cool,
- 18:20Speaker 2: So that's what the show is, That's what the game is,
- 18:24Speaker 2: and now we'll get into the beefy part of this
- 18:27Speaker 2: episode is what is the world?
- 18:30Speaker 1: I already hate? Why why are you doing this so much?
- 18:34Speaker 2: Download before we record, had sick off colon. We we
- 18:41Speaker 2: have tasty teasers, and we have beefy lord dumb lord.
- 18:51Speaker 2: It sounds like a good super villain.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I'm like bf lord dump.
- 18:58Speaker 2: All right, So here's how the is gonna go. Ben,
- 19:01Speaker 2: you have a thought I.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Was just gonna say, beefy Lord dumplings sounded better. That
- 19:06Speaker 3: was just a joke, just a tag.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Here's how this is gonna go. I'm gonna give the
- 19:14Speaker 2: very general stuff that someone in this city we're going
- 19:19Speaker 2: to play in would know about history in this world.
- 19:24Speaker 2: That's what I'm gonna do. It's just gonna be pretty
- 19:26Speaker 2: surface level. Also, if you don't want to hear this,
- 19:29Speaker 2: you can skip this episode now and go to the
- 19:33Speaker 2: actual play show because you might just want to. You
- 19:38Speaker 2: might want this stuff to be leaked out subtly through
- 19:41Speaker 2: our storytelling. This will be just an exposition dump if.
- 19:45Speaker 5: You just want your beefy Lord dumps juicily tantalizingly distributed.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, now you need to be here. So yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 2: I'm just gonna give the general stuff. If you guys
- 20:02Speaker 2: have questions, please ask. I may or may not answer them,
- 20:06Speaker 2: but please do ask. I am ben. I know you
- 20:09Speaker 2: were interested in hearing kind of the timeline, so I
- 20:13Speaker 2: am going to give you years here as when things happened.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Please tell me there's you also have a PowerPoint to
- 20:21Speaker 1: show us no power point, I'm sorry. Uh.
- 20:26Speaker 2: And then once we get done with that audio medium, Yeah, sadly.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Once we get done with that, I am going to
- 20:33Speaker 2: ask you guys to help me build parts of the city,
- 20:38Speaker 2: and and I'm going to ask for those tasty teasers
- 20:49Speaker 2: if you guys have any, we can talk about what
- 20:51Speaker 2: we want to reveal.
- 20:52Speaker 1: If anything, My gosh, this is a pot luck, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: he didn't tell me the.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Pot luck bring cheesy potatoes. Look, the basis of this
- 21:09Speaker 2: world is built on that the Great Depression happened and
- 21:14Speaker 2: then got way worse instead of getting better both economically
- 21:19Speaker 2: and ecologically, the world just was used up and was
- 21:27Speaker 2: turning to dust all throughout it. It kind of spread,
- 21:31Speaker 2: not just kind of locally, but the whole world was
- 21:34Speaker 2: suffering from this Great depression. The world responded in two ways.
- 21:40Speaker 2: There was a natural evolutionary response and then also kind
- 21:44Speaker 2: of a man made how do we get out of
- 21:47Speaker 2: this response? The evolutionary one is the birth of mutants
- 21:51Speaker 2: or evos were calling them. This was Ben's idea. The
- 21:55Speaker 2: evos so sick, thanks, so the evos started to be born.
- 22:04Speaker 2: They started to be born right after the Great Depression,
- 22:07Speaker 2: or or I guess our year that the Great Depression ended,
- 22:10Speaker 2: which is in the early forties. That's when evos started
- 22:15Speaker 2: being born into the world. That's the kind of mother
- 22:19Speaker 2: Nature's response to the dusty world, the dying world. Man's
- 22:26Speaker 2: response or humanity's response, I should say, was let's get
- 22:31Speaker 2: to space. This planet isn't going to keep all of us.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Let's get out of here. And so the rest of
- 22:38Speaker 2: the I don't know, almost the next century is like
- 22:42Speaker 2: the world funneling all of its all of its smarts,
- 22:46Speaker 2: all of its money, all of its resources into getting
- 22:49Speaker 2: to space. There's kind of a retrofuturist vibe in the
- 22:56Speaker 2: city we're going to be in, and it comes from
- 23:00Speaker 2: that kind of hindering of of everything else. So there
- 23:06Speaker 2: wasn't as much focus quite on on the science as
- 23:10Speaker 2: we care about, certainly study of the mind, study of
- 23:15Speaker 2: the body, other things. Entertainment is certainly not up to
- 23:20Speaker 2: the level that we understand it because everything was funneled
- 23:23Speaker 2: into like we need to get to space. That's kind
- 23:25Speaker 2: of the idea. And it was a world. It was
- 23:29Speaker 2: just something kind of like in a recent Fantastic Four
- 23:32Speaker 2: movie when the whole world came together to like do something.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Together spoilers, sorry it didn't work, super spoiler.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Vanessa Kirby was a vision in blue spoiler. Yeah, they
- 23:53Speaker 2: wear Vanessa was stunning. Don't add us about the spoiling
- 24:03Speaker 2: Fantastic four you can. I don't know what was I
- 24:08Speaker 2: saying about space travel? Yeah, poured our resources into space
- 24:11Speaker 2: travel in the world. It was a global action initiative. Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 2: global thing the world came together to do.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You gave him initiative and he went with things.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Hey, there's initiative is a thing. I couldn't think of
- 24:29Speaker 2: the word I was trying to think of. But it's okay.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Sometimes that happens to me, happens to all of us.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Let's see here. What else do I want to say
- 24:38Speaker 2: and not say? So with all this, a couple enormous
- 24:42Speaker 2: things were created. Number one is the the Bowl b
- 24:46Speaker 2: o L. This is the bomb of life, and in
- 24:50Speaker 2: it was just the means to terraform planets. So we
- 24:55Speaker 2: were looking directly into our solar system. Uh so we
- 25:00Speaker 2: art shooting these bombs of life at different planets in
- 25:03Speaker 2: our Solar system. While at the same time we were
- 25:06Speaker 2: building space barges. And that's the other thing. The sb program,
- 25:10Speaker 2: the space barge program. The really important thing about the
- 25:15Speaker 2: space BArch program to our show is that it happened
- 25:18Speaker 2: in a city called New Babel. If you're familiar at
- 25:24Speaker 2: all with the biblical story of Babel, the people of
- 25:28Speaker 2: the world, of the known world at the time, this
- 25:31Speaker 2: is the legend to come together and say we're going
- 25:34Speaker 2: to build a tower so high that we're going to
- 25:36Speaker 2: reach God. And then God came down and confused all
- 25:41Speaker 2: their languages and split up the split them into tribes
- 25:44Speaker 2: because they couldn't understand each other anymore. That's the legend.
- 25:49Speaker 2: So this New Babel is this kind of secondary like
- 25:53Speaker 2: God is dead, we have killed him. We're going to
- 25:57Speaker 2: go up to space. We don't care about God's punishment
- 26:01Speaker 2: anymore because we are we are modern people.
- 26:05Speaker 5: I'm sure people will at us about spoiling Fantastic four
- 26:08Speaker 5: and not about that.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yes, sorry, well at us for spoiling Genesis eleven.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry for spoiling the Bibles. We spoiled the Bible.
- 26:23Speaker 2: But yeah. The idea of New Babbel was we will
- 26:25Speaker 2: reach God. We will build these space barges big enough
- 26:29Speaker 2: and strong enough and with enough science to go up
- 26:33Speaker 2: into space and reach God. So New Babble was created.
- 26:37Speaker 2: America gave the world a big chunk of land in
- 26:40Speaker 2: the great plains.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Hey, can we just pause and appreciate the Bomb of
- 26:43Speaker 1: Life as like a superhero mcguffin thing that is that
- 26:47Speaker 1: is just really fun.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Yeah I love that. Yeah. I mean, you guys could
- 26:51Speaker 2: stumble on the Bomb of life somewhere. What was I saying? Yeah,
- 27:03Speaker 2: big chunk of land. America gave the world this big
- 27:07Speaker 2: chunk of land for New Babel. It's on the Nebraska Kansas,
- 27:13Speaker 2: Colorado tri point and it was a city for the world.
- 27:18Speaker 2: It kind of acted as a city state. It wasn't
- 27:22Speaker 2: an American city or it was just a city of
- 27:25Speaker 2: the world. So New Babbel started being built and created
- 27:32Speaker 2: while these space barges were being built, while these bombs
- 27:35Speaker 2: of life were being created and shot up to space.
- 27:39Speaker 2: There might be a couple names that you guys know
- 27:41Speaker 2: involved with all this. A man named Brock Danton, who
- 27:49Speaker 2: is most famous for his work in the with the
- 27:52Speaker 2: Bombs of Life. That's kind of the biggest name of
- 27:57Speaker 2: that time. He would have been he was excuse me,
- 27:59Speaker 2: he was an evo, a British evo that built these
- 28:04Speaker 2: things and had a big influence on the science of
- 28:09Speaker 2: the time. Evos of the time were not just kind
- 28:13Speaker 2: of superpowered people like X Men. They weren't just heroes.
- 28:17Speaker 2: There were some that kind of took up a hero path,
- 28:21Speaker 2: but for the most part, it was just you know,
- 28:25Speaker 2: if Storm gave her all of her energy to helping
- 28:29Speaker 2: grow crops and rebirth the world, like it was like
- 28:34Speaker 2: it was a kind of a humanitarian effort to like,
- 28:36Speaker 2: let's do it, like, let's make this a better place
- 28:39Speaker 2: to live. So there were economists and politicians and scientists
- 28:46Speaker 2: of all kinds that the evos were just kind of
- 28:48Speaker 2: smarter and just like better that next phase of evolution,
- 28:54Speaker 2: and they they they it worked. So what's the timeline
- 28:59Speaker 2: looking like where we are, Yes, your New Babel. The
- 29:02Speaker 2: city of New Babble was completed thirty years after the
- 29:06Speaker 2: Great Depression, So seventies, early seventies is when New Babel
- 29:10Speaker 2: was finished, and that means both the station and the
- 29:16Speaker 2: campus of New Babel to launch these big space barges
- 29:20Speaker 2: was complete. So they launched these things right out of
- 29:23Speaker 2: the middle of the city. Very arrogant, very silly, very stupid.
- 29:27Speaker 2: But these giant space barges were ported into the city
- 29:30Speaker 2: and then launched out of the middle of it. It
- 29:32Speaker 2: was like a big to do in a big celebration.
- 29:35Speaker 2: So we're looking at the early seventies. The bowls, the
- 29:39Speaker 2: bols bombs of life were started to be shot off
- 29:44Speaker 2: right after that, and then a thing happened right after
- 29:52Speaker 2: that that you probably wouldn't know the details of, but
- 29:57Speaker 2: people started to be chosen for this mission. So the
- 30:03Speaker 2: world was getting better, but humans were still like, we
- 30:06Speaker 2: still need to get a bunch of people to space.
- 30:09Speaker 2: And it was decided again you don't know how, but
- 30:13Speaker 2: it was decided that two billion people needed to be
- 30:16Speaker 2: sent off to space to keep our world healthy.
- 30:23Speaker 3: And so.
- 30:26Speaker 2: That didn't start happening until the late eighties early nineties.
- 30:32Speaker 2: So we finished the bombs of life. It seems like
- 30:37Speaker 2: the bomb that hit Venus worked very well. All the
- 30:40Speaker 2: reports coming back from that were really good. Venus was
- 30:44Speaker 2: the place to be settled, and we started sending people
- 30:51Speaker 2: up there in numbers of thousands. It took a couple
- 30:53Speaker 2: of years to get two billion people off there, but
- 30:56Speaker 2: there was a group of people that was chosen. Again,
- 31:00Speaker 2: you don't exactly know how. That's probably a well kept
- 31:03Speaker 2: secret or so sort of well kept secret, but all
- 31:07Speaker 2: of these people were sent up to space as soon
- 31:10Speaker 2: as the last space barge with people on it left.
- 31:16Speaker 2: All communication from that group was cut off. That's also
- 31:22Speaker 2: a great mystery. So they're known as the silent Pilgrims.
- 31:27Speaker 2: We don't know what happened to them. They might have
- 31:29Speaker 2: gone to Venus and are doing good. They might have
- 31:32Speaker 2: gone somewhere else. They might all be dead. You guys
- 31:34Speaker 2: don't know. It's a secret. That completed in what ninety
- 31:39Speaker 2: five complete silence from the Venus colonists. And then right
- 31:47Speaker 2: after that was a really really sad time. It's the
- 31:50Speaker 2: Evo War, So there were still a lot of Evos
- 31:54Speaker 2: left and the world turned on them and said we
- 31:57Speaker 2: don't need you anymore. Please get your weird stuff out
- 32:01Speaker 2: of here, and they forced them all to New Babbel
- 32:05Speaker 2: and sent them to space. It was a bloody time,
- 32:10Speaker 2: a lot of battles, basically a lot, I mean a
- 32:15Speaker 2: bunch of people died on both sides, a lot of
- 32:18Speaker 2: just like the world just put their numbers again, you know,
- 32:22Speaker 2: because one Evo could take probably take you know, ten guys,
- 32:26Speaker 2: but not a thousand guys. But you kill a lot
- 32:30Speaker 2: of those thousand guys before you know that Evo was
- 32:33Speaker 2: forced to do something. So it was a very bloody
- 32:35Speaker 2: time and a very horrible time for the world. These
- 32:42Speaker 2: evos were forced to New Babbel because there was two
- 32:46Speaker 2: space bar space barges left, and they were forced into
- 32:50Speaker 2: one and then shot up into space.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Are there comes with that ship? No?
- 32:57Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, that's more of choice. Yes, that's more of
- 33:03Speaker 2: a choice based on both parties. Yeah, so that means
- 33:07Speaker 2: there's one space barge left, correct, and it just hangs
- 33:11Speaker 2: out in the middle of the city and in fact
- 33:15Speaker 2: has been has been repurposed. Yeah, as living spaces people
- 33:23Speaker 2: living there.
- 33:23Speaker 1: All right, So.
- 33:26Speaker 2: With the exodus or the what's that's not the best word,
- 33:31Speaker 2: what's the better word when you deportation of the evo's expulsion?
- 33:36Speaker 2: Expulsion getting them off also came with that kind of
- 33:41Speaker 2: a wanting to isolate and forget about New Babble as
- 33:48Speaker 2: a city. It was like used to be the shining beacon.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It almost had thirty five forty years of being like
- 33:56Speaker 2: an incredible pinnacle of science and movement in the world,
- 34:01Speaker 2: and then because its job was done, it was kind
- 34:06Speaker 2: of left tarat. The world no longer wanted to fund
- 34:10Speaker 2: the city, and so it became this kind of random
- 34:14Speaker 2: city state in the middle of America that was not
- 34:16Speaker 2: attached to America but just was. And that's the city
- 34:22Speaker 2: that we are going to play in, the city of
- 34:26Speaker 2: New Babel. About So about the year two thousand is
- 34:32Speaker 2: the beginning of the evil less world and an emptier world,
- 34:37Speaker 2: having sent two billion people away. Our story doesn't begin
- 34:40Speaker 2: until sixty years after that, so we're in the year
- 34:42Speaker 2: of twenty sixty. Again. It's going to be very retro
- 34:48Speaker 2: futurey vibe. It is significantly our you know, in our future,
- 34:53Speaker 2: and the world outside of New Babel is probably further
- 34:56Speaker 2: along than New Babel. But there are things because we
- 35:00Speaker 2: focused on space programming that that there were parts of
- 35:04Speaker 2: technology that did come to fruition through the space program.
- 35:08Speaker 2: So all of that is in New Babbel. So kind
- 35:12Speaker 2: of a weird town, but very very fun. What any
- 35:19Speaker 2: questions or thoughts we said town? Yeah, yeah, from my understanding,
- 35:25Speaker 2: it's like the size of a state.
- 35:28Speaker 6: It's probably not that it's not that big. No, no's
- 35:33Speaker 6: like the population, yeah, like do we we don't stretch
- 35:35Speaker 6: to the mountains, no, no, no planes.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's the city. Is I have the papers
- 35:44Speaker 2: somewhere Ben, How long did I tell you? The shoot
- 35:47Speaker 2: was twelve miles.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you said the shoot was about twelve miles long
- 35:52Speaker 3: and about a quarter mile wide.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Yes, so the the shoot takes up runs half of
- 36:00Speaker 2: the city's length, So it's twenty four miles and which
- 36:03Speaker 2: is like double the size of like Chicago. It's like
- 36:06Speaker 2: a big old city, but it's not. It's not a state.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 36:11Speaker 5: When you say retro future, yeah, do you mean kind
- 36:15Speaker 5: of like like where like from the esthetic perspective and
- 36:18Speaker 5: the kind of stuff we should expect floating around the city.
- 36:21Speaker 5: What would you say is like a good reference for us?
- 36:25Speaker 5: Is it, you know, kind of fifties e's stuff that's
- 36:28Speaker 5: we're looking at, but it's obviously more modernized.
- 36:31Speaker 2: Or what do you Yeah, probably fifties to sixties kind
- 36:36Speaker 2: of era technology. Everything, all the screens are still tubes.
- 36:43Speaker 2: The clothing of that era is very in vogue. But
- 36:46Speaker 2: there are some things that we that have come up
- 36:49Speaker 2: in your origin stories. There are hover bikes and hover cars.
- 36:53Speaker 2: There are floating lanterns, there are floating platforms, some other
- 37:00Speaker 2: things and just some stuff that is one of the
- 37:03Speaker 2: things I want y'all to help me come up with
- 37:05Speaker 2: for the city. But yes, there is a very basic
- 37:10Speaker 2: version of the Internet that makes it to New Babbel.
- 37:13Speaker 2: It's mostly encyclopedic for common use. But it's one of
- 37:18Speaker 2: those things where it's like, sure, the Internet was around
- 37:21Speaker 2: when we were kids in the nineties, but we didn't
- 37:23Speaker 2: really know about, like we didn't.
- 37:24Speaker 4: Really have it.
- 37:25Speaker 2: You know. It's kind of that vibe and it's a
- 37:29Speaker 2: very it was boring, right, Yeah, you.
- 37:32Speaker 5: Know it might be a fun alternative that might just
- 37:35Speaker 5: be just slightly faster than Internet. In New Babble would
- 37:39Speaker 5: be pneumatic tubes.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Perfect, that's the kind of thing fun. I just
- 37:43Speaker 2: love the food.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, that's the sound. It changed it from pop.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It's I was gonna let each of you come up
- 37:55Speaker 2: with a thing in New Babble that would that's a
- 38:03Speaker 2: great thing.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Now I want to go back and re record from
- 38:06Speaker 1: my origins so I could be using more dramatic tubes.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Sorry. Yeah, there's pneumatic tubes now, which is awesome. Stuff
- 38:17Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, other questions or thoughts about the world.
- 38:24Speaker 2: We hope to get to do this for a long time,
- 38:28Speaker 2: and so this is one of the tasty teasers I'm
- 38:30Speaker 2: going to give. So buckle up, unbutton your buttons and
- 38:35Speaker 2: your belts, my pants are off. My dream is that
- 38:43Speaker 2: season one takes place in New Babel. My other dream,
- 38:47Speaker 2: and this is a big spoiler from the lore that
- 38:50Speaker 2: I just said, and I made a point to say, like, oh,
- 38:54Speaker 2: we don't know what happened. But my next dream is
- 38:57Speaker 2: that season two happens on the planet Venus space space.
- 39:03Speaker 2: We take a pneumatic tube to space. So season two
- 39:08Speaker 2: is supposed to be in Venus. And then I love that.
- 39:13Speaker 2: I'll keep going, but because more of this will make
- 39:17Speaker 2: less and less sense. But my hope is that there's
- 39:20Speaker 2: a tiny season, a little quick banger in between season
- 39:24Speaker 2: two and three that happens on the Moon, just a
- 39:28Speaker 2: mini moon season, moon Sea shot, a moonshot that'll probably
- 39:34Speaker 2: end up being like twenty five episodes, because I'm a disaster.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Beautiful it is twenty eight because the moon phases.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Oh damn, We'll try, all right, try, And then that's
- 39:48Speaker 2: all I'll say. I have more seasons planned in my
- 39:51Speaker 2: dream house that is in my brain, my Johnny dream house.
- 39:57Speaker 2: But I hope season two can be in Venus. I
- 40:00Speaker 2: hope season two point five will be on the Moon.
- 40:03Speaker 2: I love that, sweet, I love that too. Then, yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 2: I would like to oh. I also want to talk about, like, well,
- 40:15Speaker 2: let's do this first. Let's do tasty teasers from you guys.
- 40:20Speaker 2: We can decide what we want to give here, but
- 40:22Speaker 2: I kind of want to give the people something about
- 40:25Speaker 2: your characters. You guys don't know each other's characters yet. Yeah,
- 40:30Speaker 2: recorded origins for all of you. We still have some
- 40:33Speaker 2: to do for Ben and Steph, but you all know
- 40:36Speaker 2: what your characters will be for this first season, and
- 40:39Speaker 2: I'm I want you guys to tease something. But we
- 40:43Speaker 2: can choose what we want to tease and what we don't.
- 40:45Speaker 2: We could do like your sheer human name, which is
- 40:48Speaker 2: very nothing. We could do one power you have, which
- 40:52Speaker 2: is a lot. We could do anything in between where
- 40:56Speaker 2: you live, blah blah blah. What do you think? Any
- 41:00Speaker 2: thoughts about what we want to say, what we don't.
- 41:06Speaker 1: I love being surprised in reading other characters.
- 41:09Speaker 2: I think you all do. Yeah, we all do.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Yeah, So that not me.
- 41:15Speaker 2: I want to know everything, But that's fine. We could do.
- 41:22Speaker 2: You can do your hero's superhero name. Well, well, I
- 41:25Speaker 2: guess we can't because I think Ben doesn't hasn't decided yet,
- 41:30Speaker 2: which maybe that's a spoiler. In and of itself.
- 41:33Speaker 3: I'm going in real improv into these origin sessions.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Guys.
- 41:38Speaker 1: That's great.
- 41:39Speaker 2: A note, I'm going in blind.
- 41:41Speaker 1: That's fun. Oh, now I do want to know more.
- 41:46Speaker 2: We'll just do one little tiny tease for the people,
- 41:50Speaker 2: for the listeners. All right, I can, I can start.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I'll start with small. So I'll say his name's Jason Turner,
- 42:00Speaker 2: which is a pun based on that's a clue. His
- 42:04Speaker 2: name is a clue, okay, and super stuff.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Yeah, and he lives in the like the like apartment
- 42:14Speaker 5: atrium above the library of New Babel.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Oh, cool city library live in. Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 4: I also chose my h nonu my my birth name intentionally.
- 42:29Speaker 4: And her name is Veronica mars No. Her name is
- 42:36Speaker 4: Veronica Canter.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 42:40Speaker 1: She's not a horse girl. Also spoiler.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Not a horse girl.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Yeah, she's not a horse girl girl horse.
- 43:00Speaker 3: That was good.
- 43:00Speaker 2: That was that was too good.
- 43:03Speaker 3: That's definitely planned. I'll say yeah, I'll say my character
- 43:15Speaker 3: splits his time.
- 43:16Speaker 4: Uh.
- 43:16Speaker 3: He lives partly still with his parents and partly in
- 43:20Speaker 3: a communal living situation.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Mmm.
- 43:24Speaker 2: So he's the richest man in the uh. Quite the opposite.
- 43:31Speaker 1: He's a boy horse.
- 43:35Speaker 2: My character is not wealthy. Spake spoiler as well. Man, guys,
- 43:42Speaker 2: really we're really really leak out these the lower dumbs
- 43:50Speaker 2: took off the shroud, took off the saddle. Yes, oh
- 43:57Speaker 2: my god, are we all horse themed?
- 43:58Speaker 5: Guys?
- 43:59Speaker 2: Did we all horses? Power hoops? Were all horses, which
- 44:04Speaker 2: make so much sense for the city we love. Oh man,
- 44:11Speaker 2: I do want to talk a little bit about the
- 44:12Speaker 2: state of New Babbel, so like what state you guys
- 44:15Speaker 2: find it in, so please ask questions about this. There
- 44:20Speaker 2: are four quadrants. There's the Colorado North quadrant which is
- 44:24Speaker 2: called Kono, Colorado South quadrant, which is called KOSO. There's
- 44:29Speaker 2: the Nebraska quadrant which is called ask, and the Kansas
- 44:34Speaker 2: quadrant called SASS. I'm just going to give incredit like
- 44:40Speaker 2: like every city, every kind of part of a city
- 44:44Speaker 2: has kind of a vibe about it while also being
- 44:50Speaker 2: the people within it are so variable and like you
- 44:53Speaker 2: could never say what the whole whole part of the
- 44:56Speaker 2: city is about. But I'm just going to give the
- 44:58Speaker 2: very blanket idea for each quadrant. KNO is the fancy
- 45:03Speaker 2: part of town, the nicest part of town. Colorado North,
- 45:07Speaker 2: Colorado South is where most of the workers lived during
- 45:13Speaker 2: the time of building of New Babel and then the
- 45:17Speaker 2: space program of New Babbel and so there was a
- 45:20Speaker 2: lot of like project housing there for people to come
- 45:24Speaker 2: there and work. It is the most it is the
- 45:29Speaker 2: kind of poorest part of town as well as the
- 45:31Speaker 2: most like variety part of town. A lot of variety
- 45:37Speaker 2: in insity diversity. Yes, I don't know if this is
- 45:41Speaker 2: like adding to the it's it's not adding to the world.
- 45:45Speaker 1: But maybe think of like when we used to live
- 45:47Speaker 1: in the Cleveland Acrone area and there's like the old
- 45:50Speaker 1: like Firestone neighborhoods I can't, like the tire Factory neighborhood. Yes,
- 45:56Speaker 1: and all the houses like looked identical and they all
- 45:59Speaker 1: had like the same tree I think in the front. Yes,
- 46:03Speaker 1: that's what I'm imagining.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely Nebraska. The ask part of town is is
- 46:11Speaker 2: where the New Babble Technological University was n BTU, And
- 46:17Speaker 2: so if you want to think about kind of academia
- 46:21Speaker 2: education in that side of town, you can. That's where
- 46:26Speaker 2: your library is, the pen Dragon Library. I like to
- 46:30Speaker 2: think of all the people that live and ask as assholes. Assholes?
- 46:36Speaker 1: Is that like they like wear it proudly, like yeah,
- 46:38Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask whole.
- 46:39Speaker 5: I think so if I'd imagine if there were separate
- 46:41Speaker 5: license plates, that's what.
- 46:43Speaker 1: A lot of the vails and sassholes.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I don't think there would be like license plates. Okay unfortunately, Yeah, yeah,
- 46:53Speaker 2: but that's like that's what they call people assholes. Yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 2: we're academic, you know, or snooty assholes. Kansas. The SaaS
- 47:04Speaker 2: part of town is it would be described as artsy
- 47:07Speaker 2: in the broadest sense. It is where the zoo is, music, theaters,
- 47:12Speaker 2: food culture, sex, museums, art, all that stuff. Obviously there's
- 47:17Speaker 2: other stuff like that in the rest of the city,
- 47:19Speaker 2: but that is kind of the most concentrated place where
- 47:23Speaker 2: you if you're gonna get the best burger, you gotta
- 47:26Speaker 2: go down to you know, Sass.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Kind of Sasses in Sas.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I'm just like, are you saying like sass is in Sassin?
- 47:36Speaker 2: Is that what you're trying to say.
- 47:37Speaker 1: No, No, it's the restaurant is called sasses, like possessive sasses,
- 47:44Speaker 1: and it's in Sas. But I'm really glad we took
- 47:49Speaker 1: the time for this.
- 47:53Speaker 2: Again, I'm almost following. The last part of town is
- 47:59Speaker 2: kind of the downtown area, the station and the shut
- 48:03Speaker 2: so that is all one part of town. The station
- 48:07Speaker 2: is where they launched these big space barges from. There's
- 48:11Speaker 2: still a space barge there. People have moved into there
- 48:14Speaker 2: when they were displaced from the whole city shutting down.
- 48:19Speaker 2: But they have also moved into the chute, which is
- 48:23Speaker 2: a concrete tube that basically the fire belching from these
- 48:28Speaker 2: launches was forced out into the Colorado Desert.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Incredible big style, incredible.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Style, big exhaust channel. Basically a huge exhaust channel which
- 48:39Speaker 2: is twelve miles long and a quarter mile wide, so
- 48:43Speaker 2: it's huge, and people have started to build housing units
- 48:47Speaker 2: in there, and that's where Ben's characters.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Are They like entrances, Oh spoiler, are there entrances like
- 48:55Speaker 1: along along the chute? So you're like you have to
- 48:59Speaker 1: go in at the middle or the end.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Certainly now sixty years later, it would have been nice
- 49:05Speaker 2: and tight when they were doing the actual space book
- 49:09Speaker 2: barge launches.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Keep that exhaust tight.
- 49:11Speaker 2: But now there's they've they've but but now that you
- 49:26Speaker 2: know it has they put plumbing in there. They've cut
- 49:29Speaker 2: into the shoot for entryways. Like you're saying, there's a
- 49:33Speaker 2: road that runs through it. There's one of the electric
- 49:38Speaker 2: rails ride there's a station for an electrical rail there,
- 49:42Speaker 2: so like it has certainly been broken up.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Now cool.
- 49:47Speaker 2: The interesting thing about the station and the shoot is
- 49:49Speaker 2: that the police and the powers that be in the
- 49:53Speaker 2: city are not allowed in there. It is protected very vaguely.
- 50:00Speaker 2: There's not much more to that, but the police and
- 50:03Speaker 2: the again, the powers that be at the city are like, we.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Can't go into the shoot. That's a common knowledge, common knowledge.
- 50:10Speaker 1: That's a lawless place, yes, or I.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Should say laud or ruled by the gang called the
- 50:19Speaker 2: core CEO r E the Core gang.
- 50:22Speaker 1: What is the political structure, the governing.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Structure, great question. There's a mayor. His name is Adrian Stephenson.
- 50:34Speaker 2: My son, oh, because your name is steph.
- 50:38Speaker 1: Yeah wow, uh my sweet baby boy, Atrius.
- 50:45Speaker 2: Here's what you know about Adrian Stephenson. He used to
- 50:50Speaker 2: be a New Babbel oil tycoon in the south part
- 50:52Speaker 2: of the city. He made a lot of jobs and
- 50:55Speaker 2: his family kept oil in New Babel when it was
- 50:58Speaker 2: cut off from the world. And then he became mayor
- 51:05Speaker 2: four years ago from when we began. The city council
- 51:09Speaker 2: moved to extend the term of the current mayor under
- 51:13Speaker 2: the banner if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 51:19Speaker 5: Well, something came up in in our origins that you
- 51:22Speaker 5: mentioned is there's a pre term election to see if
- 51:26Speaker 5: we get an election.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yes, that came up in my.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Yes I'm not political, did not come up in mine,
- 51:36Speaker 1: and not yet.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Yeah, there's so there's a few things that after. So
- 51:42Speaker 2: he he won the election as an oil tycoon and
- 51:45Speaker 2: was a pretty good mayor for the first four years,
- 51:48Speaker 2: and then he won again under the if it ain't broke,
- 51:52Speaker 2: don't fix it, And the law that was passed was twofold.
- 51:55Speaker 1: It was.
- 51:58Speaker 2: There had to be a vote to even hold an election,
- 52:01Speaker 2: which is what you're referencing, and the city council has
- 52:05Speaker 2: to like confirm and affirm the vote. So this is
- 52:09Speaker 2: the political structure. The mayor is king here basically ah
- 52:14Speaker 2: and controls a lot of things. Controls now oil, which
- 52:18Speaker 2: wasn't always the case, but now does control the oil
- 52:21Speaker 2: in the town because New Babbel is cut off from
- 52:24Speaker 2: the rest of the world, so they're not getting imports really,
- 52:28Speaker 2: so if they're gonna have oil, it's gonna be from him. Also,
- 52:34Speaker 2: digit you're getting villain vibes. Just a good guy. He
- 52:41Speaker 2: gives my sweet baby boy, I'm getting he could be
- 52:44Speaker 2: a great guy. I can't say villain vibes. The other
- 52:49Speaker 2: thing he controls is the mint. The mint, which is
- 52:54Speaker 2: a big deal. New Babbel has its own money. It
- 52:59Speaker 2: does not use an American dollars. And the mint is
- 53:03Speaker 2: controlled by the mayoral office. So and it's money in
- 53:07Speaker 2: our day and age is very uh it's like ethereal right,
- 53:10Speaker 2: it's just like out there in in in the in
- 53:13Speaker 2: the cloud, in the computer. In New Babbel. The amount
- 53:17Speaker 2: of bills and coins you have is the amount of
- 53:19Speaker 2: money that you have. And I mean, of course yeah,
- 53:23Speaker 2: and of course like equity and homes and things that
- 53:26Speaker 2: you might own. But nope, just money, just cash. Uh So,
- 53:35Speaker 2: controlling the mint is a big deal because the more
- 53:38Speaker 2: you you know, the longer you live, money disappears. It
- 53:41Speaker 2: gets stuffed into people's banks, it you know, gets thrown away,
- 53:45Speaker 2: it what it breaks. Uh So, controlling that mint can
- 53:49Speaker 2: certainly keep your people poor when inflation in New Babbel
- 53:54Speaker 2: wouldn't matter as much cut because it's separated from the
- 53:57Speaker 2: rest of the world. So yep, yep, yep, yep. That's
- 54:00Speaker 2: the the police. We could talk about a little. I
- 54:04Speaker 2: want to say too much. The police quadrants basically have
- 54:12Speaker 2: been the mayor's office like doesn't want to deal with it.
- 54:15Speaker 2: So it's like the police chiefs of each quadrant have
- 54:19Speaker 2: like a ton of power within their own precinct and
- 54:23Speaker 2: within their own quadrant. So like some some places when
- 54:27Speaker 2: you call the police, they'll show up. In some places
- 54:29Speaker 2: you call the police and they don't show up, and
- 54:32Speaker 2: vice versa and all that. The Catholic Church is here
- 54:36Speaker 2: and proud there's Christianity. But the funny thing about the
- 54:48Speaker 2: Catholic Church being here is that when New Babble was
- 54:51Speaker 2: cut off from the rest of the world, the Catholic
- 54:53Speaker 2: Church was kind of stuck from communicating with the Catholic Church.
- 54:58Speaker 2: So there's a guy called called Mitchell Nichols who is
- 55:03Speaker 2: the silent Pope in New Babbel. What else do I
- 55:14Speaker 2: want to tell you? Oh, economically, it's really interesting in
- 55:21Speaker 2: New Babbel. So there is a dry port in ask
- 55:27Speaker 2: where the world is kind of quote unquote like forced
- 55:33Speaker 2: or America mostly is like forced to provide the people
- 55:36Speaker 2: of New Babbel with essentials. So there's some food that
- 55:39Speaker 2: comes in can goods, products that people need, et cetera.
- 55:46Speaker 2: But recently there has been a ton of there's been
- 55:52Speaker 2: a huge movement in the small business community of like
- 55:57Speaker 2: growing our own things and like making our own things
- 56:00Speaker 2: and having factories that aren't enormous, but like, what if
- 56:03Speaker 2: I can make a little shop that sells underwear out
- 56:05Speaker 2: of my house, like stuff like that, like small mom
- 56:09Speaker 2: and pop shops kind of everywhere. Mac Weldon, what's that?
- 56:16Speaker 2: I said, Mac Weldon?
- 56:19Speaker 3: It was an underwear joke. That's an underwear brand. I'm
- 56:22Speaker 3: so sorry.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I'm sorry that I don't know that mac Weldon is
- 56:27Speaker 1: an underwear brand.
- 56:30Speaker 2: So, yeah, there's been quite a movement towards that. That's
- 56:33Speaker 2: happening a lot more. And I think that's most of
- 56:37Speaker 2: any questions, any thoughts you guys, things you want to know.
- 56:41Speaker 2: You mentioned that there's like screens that are like Cathrode
- 56:45Speaker 2: ray tube screens. So what's the media situation, Like, is
- 56:49Speaker 2: there like news and like does new Babel have its
- 56:51Speaker 2: own kind of situation for media and communication that way? Yes,
- 56:56Speaker 2: certainly the major there's certainly TV. Again, it would be
- 57:00Speaker 2: kind of a thing where it's like, oh, my rich
- 57:03Speaker 2: friend has a TV, but not everybody has one. There
- 57:09Speaker 2: is a TV news company NBTU New Babbel TV something
- 57:17Speaker 2: what is it called stand by oh. NBN is New
- 57:23Speaker 2: Babbel News and it's the TV news source. It's also
- 57:26Speaker 2: kind of the broadcasting news source for other TV programs.
- 57:31Speaker 2: There is a level of entertainment and media done in
- 57:34Speaker 2: New Babble also sometimes through that dry port with essentials,
- 57:40Speaker 2: like some old movies will come through, and like some
- 57:44Speaker 2: old VHS staves, and like some old books and stuff
- 57:47Speaker 2: come through. So there is some stuff where you guys
- 57:50Speaker 2: can kind of keeme up with the rest of the world,
- 57:53Speaker 2: but probably ten to twenty years behind because these just
- 57:58Speaker 2: old things you're getting. And then there is a NBT
- 58:04Speaker 2: which is New Babel Tower and it controls the newspaper
- 58:08Speaker 2: which is very potent or very prevalent in New Babbel,
- 58:13Speaker 2: as well as the radio. Other questions nothing I was saying.
- 58:21Speaker 3: I didn't have a question, but I had a little
- 58:23Speaker 3: idea if we can add something to the lore.
- 58:27Speaker 2: Yes, So that's the next phase of this is No,
- 58:31Speaker 2: don't be I have some specific questions, but I'm also
- 58:33Speaker 2: happy to hare anything.
- 58:37Speaker 3: One idea I had was maybe some kind of anarchist
- 58:41Speaker 3: American gang that like one culture joined America and you
- 58:48Speaker 3: could either make them like vague American, you know, kind
- 58:51Speaker 3: of idealizing this like time that they and even their
- 58:55Speaker 3: grandparents don't remember of like when this was part of
- 58:59Speaker 3: Ken's call it kind of idealizing, like I bout the Topeka.
- 59:08Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 59:09Speaker 2: I think that'd be fun.
- 59:10Speaker 3: That's great some like people who kind of idealize, like
- 59:14Speaker 3: we wouldn't have all these problems of America.
- 59:18Speaker 2: I think that could be a fun group. Yeah, I
- 59:20Speaker 2: love that idea. We can totally have an anarchist gang
- 59:25Speaker 2: that wants to be part of America. I love it. Oh.
- 59:31Speaker 2: Also there's robots. There's a race of robotic people called
- 59:36Speaker 2: the day Dae and they are. They showed up very
- 59:43Speaker 2: soon after the Evos left. They just showed up in
- 59:47Speaker 2: New Babbel. It felt very random. But then it does
- 59:51Speaker 2: seem like they are people. They they it seems like
- 59:53Speaker 2: they have soul, which is the There was a lot of,
- 59:57Speaker 2: you know, conspiracy theories. They are are. There's a couple
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: churches built around it based on the coming of these people.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: It is a very weird thing, but they're kind of
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: part of society now. Okay, my specific questions are I
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: want you guys to think about laws like strange laws
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: that might have gotten grandfathered in that was like it
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: maybe made sense for this to be a law when
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: there was a space program, but now that nothing's happening,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: it's just still a law. So it could be like
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: a commodity that's illegal that like shouldn't be, or I
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: don't know, weird laws like that.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I feel like there would be some kind of like
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: alarm system or like when they were launching the barges,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: because obviously it's going to be loud they have the shoots,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: but I assume there would be like some safety concerns
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: with a city size spaceship blasting off into space with
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: people around, So it makes sense that there would be
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: some kind of like alarm system or like a shelter
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: in place kind of thing.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Just speakers are like you know, emergency broadcasts.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of network that's still there and then still used.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: M that's cool.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: I don't know if it makes any any sense with
- 1:01:20Speaker 5: what we've already got recorded, but the I think I
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: always love the idea of any kind of prohibition. I
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: don't know if a full stop prohibition makes sense for
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: New Babbel but maybe like there's a curfew on booze
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: and so like at a certain point some places turn
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: into speakeasies.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Booze curfew. It'd be like stupid early, like it's like seven. Yeah, yeah, so.
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: Lots of people are started doing it, but like it's
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: technically against the law, and so it kind of gives
- 1:01:53Speaker 5: you a little bit of that twenties thing.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Yeah. I think maybe it cut off is seven and
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: then it's like something stupid like no weekends, like seven
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: on the weekdays. And because someone did a research of
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: like when are people the most drunk and make the
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: most stupid decisions after seven and on the weekends, So
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: like that's when booze is out. Laws. Yeah, no weekend
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: warriors allowed. Yes, cool? Any other ideas for laws that
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: are still in place if you think of them later,
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: you can. I'll just give you the next prompt.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Would there be maybe still on the books some crazy
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: evil laws where it's like evos are just like can't vote,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: not real citizens, they're busy evil laws that like aren't
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: relevant since evos are gone, but would still be technically
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: part of the law, as like a weird oddity of
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: this past time.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: So it's at an interesting thought, I think certainly. But
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: also New Babbel was the one place that evo's found
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: some level of sanctuary during the Evo War, because another
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: important name in history is William Blainer, who so the
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: two big Evos were Brock dan and William Blaaner. And
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Blainer was like, hey, everybody show up to New Babbel.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: They'll keep us safe and then we'll all go to
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: space together. He was like, let's just leave, let's just
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: get out of here, whereas brock Danton was very much like, no,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: we're fighting this shit. We're not leaving here without a fight.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: And so anyways, that being said, New Babbel even I
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: think for a time was like, yes, Evos are welcome
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: here while this transition is happening, but there could still
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: be some weird rules in place about evos for sure.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it kind of sounds like then like Bleaner, like
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: some people would have viewed him as like a like turncoat,
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: absolutely like giving up. So maybe like some of those
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: laws did exist, and he's like, yeah, I'll just submit
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: myself to this for my own safety, right and then
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: get out of here. So that I can be free,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: no doubt.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: All right, you can keep thinking. My next prompt is sports.
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: Fun.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: So I have not I have not come up with
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: any sports that are in New Babble. It wouldn't be
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: a traveling thing, right, we can't like go out and
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: play you know, Colorado or Utah, Like, like, what sports
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: are active in New Babbel? Is it a quadrant thing?
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Do the quadrants each have you know, a fucking rugby
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: like some weirds? Like is it a rugby team like
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: cricket or like, I don't know what what what horse
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: horse racing?
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: It's very important to my backstory that there is horse racing.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: There could be some weird rocket based sport.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I was thinking like, yeah, if there's if there's
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: hover cars and stuff like you could have like hover
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: ball or kind of imagining a big, you know, final
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: Fantasy ten style dome where people can like three dimensionally
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: play soccer.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Like a hover ball something crazy awesome. Let's let's iron
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: that out. Okay, so everyone everyone rides a horse obvious,
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: but yeah, I would say like probably two hover yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: hover polo.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I think hoverball.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Would be right. Damn well, no, so what are we
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: hovering on. So there are hover bikes, there's a little
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: hover cars. Maybe they just have like hover platforms on
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: their shoes that they can kind of skate with like
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: force the gravity below them over skates. And I wore
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: roller Derby to still be a big thing. Oh yeah,
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: that'd be cool. Yeah, just make it hover roller derby. Well,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: but I'm also thinking real roller derby. But like people
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: bring like.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Billy, Yeah, they have mods to their skates so they
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: can like you could do you could do roller Derby
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: in the shoot like shoot ball.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: All like you go like all the way you do
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: like loop loops, yesh, shoot ball, shoot ball. I'm open
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: to a few things, Like it doesn't have to just
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: be one thing. But I think, like I think, uh,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: normal sports, I like, I don't I don't think people
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: are playing basketball, you know, might still be sure, but yeah,
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: but uniquely new babbles like shoot ball, hover ball with
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: hover skates, roller derby with weapons.
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: I don't know anything about this, uh kind of the
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: part of this country that we're uh that we're set in.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: But in my mind, my Midwestern stereotypes of the planes
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: involve a lot of hacky sack. So I like to
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: imagine like when cabble broken evolved into some like maybe
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: like art form more more than sport.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: There's another gang on the streets, yeah, the sackers.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: Just someone's playing violin and there's some woman hacky in
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: next to the violinist, and they're just like, yeah, that's
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: like street art.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: That's what people do.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: You play hacky sack. But then you also put a
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: hat out for people to throw coins into.
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: Watch it. Yeah, that's beautiful, it's beautiful. That's awesome.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: My last prompt is about retrofuturist tech. That's here. Uh,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: you guys already know that there's hover stuff, there's uh
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: like floating lights. There's what else. We got pneumatic tubes.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: Where are we at? I mean, like the day have appeared?
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Where are we at with like AI or like robotic assistance?
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Like is that because the day are there? That's like
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: taboo because good questions, like the robotic people have personhood
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: or are they like oh no, that's like that's different
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: if there were to be like a little little robot buddy.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: It was a big part of the Space program that
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: there was like AI concierge built for the travel, So
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: there could certainly have been some of that left behind.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Maybe just like a home like bought for the wealthy,
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: but probably not a physical thing that walks around.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: But that's just like in the house.
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: Yeah, smart house, smart house, but not in the way
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: we see it. Smart house, but I don't think there's
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: like robot survey and swapping around.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I want the thing in back to the future
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: where the food is growing in the ceiling and it
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: comes down out of the kitchen ceiling and there's just
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: grapes and stuff growing on it.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Great ceiling gardens. Yeah, ceiling grapes.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: Yeah, specifically the grapes y spathetically pleasing, just to have
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: some grape vines draping out of your ceiling.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Anything else that comes to mind, like day to day
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: retrofuturist tech that is kind of commonplace. We got pneumatic tubes,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: we got ceiling grapes.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: Like since the like the bombs, the bombs of life, Yeah,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: there's got a Was there any technology left like that
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: used on Earth or did it have to be in
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: giant bomb form? So are there places where that are Like.
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: Even though we're in the middle of this dense city,
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: there's like this beautiful green space because of terraforming tech.
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: A great question stuff. We'll just have to wait and see.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: On that one.
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: I think, okay, if if so, if New Babble's kind
- 1:10:13Speaker 5: of cut off from the rest of the US and
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: the world, is there is there a physical wall around
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: the city or is there some sort of like a
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: force field or like does it minefield? Like what's the
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: reason people don't just kind of freely? What's the border
- 1:10:27Speaker 5: look like?
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: I guess yes, there is there is a wall, and
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: between the city and the wall itself is known as
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: kind of no man's land. It's kind of a dead space.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: The biggest thing people don't like people coming in that
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: a New Babble, both the city folk and the states
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: surrounding it. The world wants to forget about it. But
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: there's also kind of a economic problem with the money.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: So the rest of the money in the world kept
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: on growing in value, and the exchange rate for New
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: Babbel dollars went to nothing. So like, if money is
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: only based on the dollars and stuff you have the bills,
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: then trying to go outside of New Babbel is you
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: have zero like you would have zero money. So I
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: think people leave, but it's I would say it's very rare. Okay,
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: but it's a physical wall then too. Yeah, but there
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: is a wall, and there are like there's border patrol
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: and a level of like we don't really want you
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: to go, But there's also like legally not.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: Much that like prevents people, like legally say, or is
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: there a lot preventing people?
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: It might be a state choice there, which is interesting.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: I think the world might have given the states that choice, Like,
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: if you want to accept New Babbel people, you can Colorado, Kansas,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: and Nebraska, but you don't have to. So maybe Kansas
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: and Nebraska are like no in Colorado being is like
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I guess, okay, maybe that's how I'll say.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: And there's no but there's no New Babbel law preventing
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: its citizens from leaving. Correct.
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: And you mentioned oil as a thing. Is that the
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: like what's the energy situation in New Babbel, Like is
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: it all fossil fuels like oil? Or is there like
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: a steampunk thing happening? Is a nuclear retrofuturism? Like where
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: are we getting our energy?
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Yeah? So there's two major sources, one being Stephanson Oil
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: who is your mayor now? And the other being Ellington
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: electric Manny Ellington is a very famous man in the
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: city and he's supposed to be like the billionaire of
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: the people. He owns in that no man's land, these
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: huge turbine things that create electricity that he gives to
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: the city. And when the Mayor's when the mayor's second
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: term began and all the oil prices shot through to
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: hell to heaven, whatever way they shot it was bad.
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: Ellington kept the electric rail very cheap. He lowered his
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: prices because he saw that was coming. And he kept
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: the electric rail very cheap so people can travel and
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: get around the city. Still. So those are the two
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: main sources of energy.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Cool can there be cool water features? I know? I
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: know that, Like yeah, I like tried to start with,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: like are there cool gardens? I just imagine lots of
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: like jumping fountains.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: What's a jumping fountain where the.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: Water sprays out of one spot goes into another. Yeah, total,
- 1:13:48Speaker 4: but in like separate ponds. To imagine lots of arcs
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: of water.
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: Just like it's the people, like the statues of people
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: doing hacky sacks one foot and.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Then there's real people doing hackey sack underneath.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Thanks. Yeah, perfect, great, that was great. So that that
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: is the world we're going to be playing in. It's
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: new babble. It's a retro futurist, weird, dystopian city that
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: is disconnected from the rest of America. And one day
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: we want to go to space. Yeah we do.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: So what can you expect from the show moving forward?
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: That's a good question. No, I can answer it. You've
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: listened to this first session zero. What is coming? So first,
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: and this is very exciting. We're going to be releasing
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: the origins stories for each of our characters slowly over
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: the next three months or so, so look for those
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: in twenty twenty six, when we hit January. Those will
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: only be available through our Patreon and a subscription there,
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: and that's when we will begin the sessions proper. So
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: that's when we'll all be getting together and doing our
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: story together. And then if you want the origins, you
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: can go back to you can go to our Patreon
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: and listen to them there. But we'll be doing the
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: main show, so we'll have nay, so you have the
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: main show, and then along with those origin stories, if
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: you go to our Patreon and become a member there,
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: there will also be post show chats called the chat
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: Cave where we will talk about the episode in real time. Uh,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: and we'll have a chat in the chat cave about
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: the episodes. So there'll be a bunch of stuff over
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: there for you to enjoy on the Patreon it's patreon
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: dot com. Slash team up RPG and what else we
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: want to say goodbye is there? We don't have an outro.
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Oh, but I would love to encourage people to team
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: up in your real life community to make your world
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: a better place.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: I'd like to advocate for vigilanti justice.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's one way to team up with
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: your friends.
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: Everybody learn karate, you learn judah. That's all you need
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: to do to be a vigil some martial art.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: I think that's important. But what's step said? What's that? Yeah?
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: Not I But also you also could take some judah classes.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: But then maybe also volunteer.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: See you can get special spiders to bite you, because
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: once you get powers, then all vigilanteism is okay. And
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: how you did it, I think is the moral.
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: We're telling people to get into street fights and to
- 1:17:16Speaker 5: look for spiders and roll around on.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Them getting the spiders. Hey, we love you and thanks
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: for listening, and we will see you as a group
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: in January. Bye bye bye. Thanks for listening to session
