- 0:00Speaker 1: All right coach coming off of one zero and one
- 0:02Speaker 1: weekend against number fifteen UMass successful weekend, Jake Perceval two
- 0:07Speaker 1: goals Saturday, til Music's Goalie of the Hockey's Goalie of
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Week. I wan't get your thoughts coming up on
- 0:13Speaker 1: another hockey s battle against Vermont.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it was certainly. I thought the way we finished
- 0:22Speaker 2: the weekend was you know, positive for us as a team.
- 0:26Speaker 2: I liked again, I feel like we're getting contributions up
- 0:29Speaker 2: and down our lineup. We got solid goaltending. I thought
- 0:32Speaker 2: our defense moved the puck pretty well. And uh, we're
- 0:36Speaker 2: going to have another tough opponent coming up this weekend
- 0:38Speaker 2: in Vermont. I think, you know, they're a very physical team.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I watched a couple of their games versus Providence and
- 0:49Speaker 2: thought that, you know, they played really well against Providence
- 0:54Speaker 2: and they're hard. They've got a grad goaltender from Minnesota
- 0:59Speaker 2: State who has played pretty solid, and the defense are
- 1:03Speaker 2: always big and physical, and they're.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Tough, you know, in their own end.
- 1:07Speaker 2: It's really hard to get offense, generate offense at times
- 1:11Speaker 2: with how physical are down low. So it's gonna be
- 1:14Speaker 2: a really good test for us.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Awesome We'll open it up for questions and wants to
- 1:23Speaker 1: start us off?
- 1:26Speaker 4: Joe, go ahead, Yeah, I'm the prototypical leadoff at a
- 1:29Speaker 4: fat slow cap.
- 1:32Speaker 3: What do you like, You're the You're the labor toy.
- 1:35Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, I run to the wrong base and
- 1:39Speaker 4: I make brand base running cramp ares. So what do
- 1:44Speaker 4: you like best about? What is or how is your
- 1:47Speaker 4: team improve the most from the beginning of preseason till now?
- 1:53Speaker 2: I would say, uh, you know, one of the points
- 1:56Speaker 2: of emphasis going into this season was to generate more offense,
- 1:59Speaker 2: and we've that was an area where I thought we
- 2:03Speaker 2: needed to really improve upon. And I think our you know,
- 2:07Speaker 2: both our rush offense and our OZP you know, has
- 2:13Speaker 2: been pretty good. That second goal we scored the other
- 2:16Speaker 2: night against you Mass might have been the best shift
- 2:18Speaker 2: I've seen since I've been here in twelve years. It was,
- 2:22Speaker 2: you know, we're able to get a full line change,
- 2:24Speaker 2: We're able to control the puck the whole time, have
- 2:26Speaker 2: multiple shots, and then it eventually ended up into a
- 2:29Speaker 2: goal because you know, the U Mass defenders were so tired.
- 2:34Speaker 2: What makes Jake a good penalty killer? He has great
- 2:38Speaker 2: anticipation and he has an excellent stick you know, I
- 2:43Speaker 2: think sometimes defenders don't realize how how quick his stick
- 2:47Speaker 2: is and how quick he gets on you. And that's
- 2:51Speaker 2: what he did the other night. He was able to
- 2:52Speaker 2: just strip that defender and on the power play when
- 2:57Speaker 2: they were on the power play, he stripped him and
- 2:58Speaker 2: he was the last line of defense and had a
- 3:00Speaker 2: breakaway and he finished.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Oh, it's spets close to coming back.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He practiced yesterday. He was in Red Cross. He didn't
- 3:10Speaker 2: go through contact. But we'll see how he you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: it feels today, but he's probably fifty to fifty for
- 3:16Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I would say, thanks, Kav.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm on a mean Randy will jump over to you.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Sorry, my dad is knocking at the door right now.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I think I think you and mom are going to vote,
- 3:31Speaker 5: and they want to know if I'm going. Sorry, he
- 3:36Speaker 5: literally just like comes right in the middle of meetings
- 3:39Speaker 5: like all the time.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I apologize. He's the best. Though.
- 3:45Speaker 5: I was gonna ask about the physical play of Vermont
- 3:48Speaker 5: and you know how tough they are down low and
- 3:51Speaker 5: how that affects you know, how how you guys counter that.
- 3:56Speaker 5: You just spoke of your greade O zone time and
- 3:59Speaker 5: the rush this year with you being a bit faster
- 4:02Speaker 5: of a team and maybe less heavy on the for check.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Does that alter how you approach you know, like that
- 4:10Speaker 5: ozone time against a big, tough, physical team like Vermont.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I don't think so, you know, I think what the
- 4:17Speaker 2: thing is, you can't let yourself get pinned. You know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: you can't let the puck stop moving. Once the puck
- 4:24Speaker 2: stops moving and then there's a scrum, those are tough
- 4:27Speaker 2: situations to get out of. So I think, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 2: our game plan would be against any team we play
- 4:34Speaker 2: that's really big and physical down low as you just
- 4:36Speaker 2: got to keep the puck moving, don't let it get stalled.
- 4:39Speaker 2: When it gets stalled, it's much tougher, you know, to
- 4:43Speaker 2: get into areas where you can score goals.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Music winning goalie of the week and doing what he
- 4:50Speaker 5: did this weekend. I know you had mentioned in the
- 4:52Speaker 5: preseason that you thought his best hockey was ahead of him.
- 4:55Speaker 5: When he has a weekend like he does, like maybe
- 4:58Speaker 5: tell us what you you know, how he's feeling after
- 5:01Speaker 5: and you know, like what his you know, obviously he
- 5:06Speaker 5: came up huge, Like like how's he build off of that?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:10Speaker 2: I think he's a very good goaltender. He's been around
- 5:13Speaker 2: a long time and he's a national development team goaltender,
- 5:16Speaker 2: so he's played in a lot of big games. The
- 5:20Speaker 2: thing I like about him, he's very composed and he's
- 5:24Speaker 2: always trying to get better, so I don't think he's
- 5:27Speaker 2: resting on his laurels. He practiced hard yesterday and he's
- 5:31Speaker 2: working on different things with our goaltending coach, Vincetileetti, so
- 5:36Speaker 2: he'll just keep trying to improve.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Randy. That's that's all I'm trying to ask of aut
- 5:41Speaker 3: all these players. That's it for me. Thanks, Dan, we'll
- 5:47Speaker 3: jump over to you. Thanks.
- 5:51Speaker 6: This is the first weekend that Phillips Satar can play.
- 5:55Speaker 6: Just how has he looked during practice during these this
- 6:00Speaker 6: first month where he hasn't been able to get into
- 6:02Speaker 6: game action.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he's looked very good. Now, it's still hard to tell.
- 6:06Speaker 2: It'll be different, you know, playing in Hockey East games
- 6:10Speaker 2: is a lot different than playing in practice, so.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It'll be interesting. But he's a very good player. He's
- 6:17Speaker 3: a two hundred foot player, and I think he's certainly
- 6:19Speaker 3: going to add some depth to our lineup.
- 6:23Speaker 6: Is it too early to know if he's going to
- 6:25Speaker 6: be in the lineup this weekend.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we haven't really decided that yet, but you know,
- 6:31Speaker 2: I could see I definitely see him playing a game
- 6:34Speaker 2: this weekend.
- 6:37Speaker 6: It's got to be tough to find him a spot
- 6:39Speaker 6: in the lineup because it's not like you've had any
- 6:42Speaker 6: week week links up top. Just how happy have you
- 6:46Speaker 6: been with the depth among among the forwards.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a great problem to have. You know, I'd
- 6:52Speaker 3: rather have too many players than too few players.
- 6:54Speaker 2: So h and as I said, as long as we
- 6:58Speaker 2: can keep rolling four line and I don't feel like
- 7:00Speaker 2: there's a weak link. I think that'll be a strength
- 7:02Speaker 2: of our team when you can, you can wear teams
- 7:06Speaker 2: down when you're playing that way.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Natalie will go over to you.
- 7:15Speaker 7: Thank you, good morning, coach.
- 7:16Speaker 3: How's it going, Good morning, Natalie, I'm great, you, I'm good.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Thank you. Someone I wanted to ask you about, uh
- 7:22Speaker 7: was Kaijian Veria. I feel like was that his fifth
- 7:25Speaker 7: or sixth assist on Saturday night? I feel like he
- 7:29Speaker 7: plays a mature game for being a first year. But
- 7:31Speaker 7: do you see him kind of developing into it to
- 7:33Speaker 7: a goal scorer from what he's shown you or what
- 7:36Speaker 7: do you see from his style?
- 7:40Speaker 2: He's very offensively gifted. I don't know if he's going
- 7:43Speaker 2: to be a premier goalscorer for us as a defenseman,
- 7:47Speaker 2: but he creates a lot of offense. I think the
- 7:50Speaker 2: thing I like most about him, Natalie, is you know
- 7:53Speaker 2: the night was it the night before? Well, you know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: he turned to puck over for a breakaway, but he
- 8:00Speaker 2: doesn't lose his confidence. You know, he learns from it
- 8:03Speaker 2: and says that wasn't a very smart play, but he
- 8:06Speaker 2: doesn't lose his confidence. And he's not afraid at that
- 8:09Speaker 2: blue line to move the puck or cycle down low,
- 8:13Speaker 2: d roll down the wall.
- 8:15Speaker 3: He's just.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Very creative offensively. He's good at getting pucks to the net.
- 8:21Speaker 2: And uh, yeah, we're excited to have him and I'm
- 8:24Speaker 2: looking forward to watching mature over the season.
- 8:28Speaker 7: Is he kind of a is he kind of a
- 8:30Speaker 7: quiet kid in the locker room or is he is
- 8:32Speaker 7: he loud in the action with all the guys.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not really quiet. He's very vocal.
- 8:37Speaker 2: He's a vocal kid. He brings a ton of energy.
- 8:40Speaker 2: We've got a bunch of you know, a bunch of
- 8:41Speaker 2: those guys, Jake, Jake Richard is very similar. Uh you know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: John's beest can be vocal on the ice, So there's
- 8:50Speaker 2: we have some guys taber he slips, a very vocal guy,
- 8:54Speaker 2: and I like it brings energy to our locker room.
- 8:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 7: Yeah, it seems like a lot of energy on the bench,
- 9:01Speaker 7: I guess in terms of perceval. We talked to him
- 9:04Speaker 7: after the game on Saturday, and he mentioned, you know,
- 9:07Speaker 7: he might not have had his best game Friday night,
- 9:10Speaker 7: but you and he met and he had a second
- 9:12Speaker 7: chance to go out there and to make things right
- 9:14Speaker 7: for himself, and he did. So what does that say
- 9:17Speaker 7: about his maturity and resilience as a player.
- 9:19Speaker 2: He says a lot, because I don't think his freshman
- 9:22Speaker 2: year he would have been able to do that. And
- 9:24Speaker 2: he and I did have a good meeting, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 2: And the best part of those where I can say
- 9:30Speaker 2: is maturation processes come a long way.
- 9:33Speaker 3: Is when we sat down and had the meeting, he
- 9:36Speaker 3: wasn't defensive.
- 9:38Speaker 2: We watched things together, we agreed on different things where
- 9:42Speaker 2: he needed to be better, and I loved how he
- 9:45Speaker 2: implemented that into his game on Saturday night and learned
- 9:48Speaker 2: from some of the mistakes he made Friday. So I
- 9:51Speaker 2: think none of us are perfect. We're all going to
- 9:54Speaker 2: make mistakes, but acknowledging them and not getting defensive about
- 9:58Speaker 2: them is great sign of maturity.
- 10:01Speaker 7: And in turn, he kind of commented on the facts
- 10:04Speaker 7: that in doing so, in meeting with you and then
- 10:07Speaker 7: having the chance to go back out, that helps them
- 10:08Speaker 7: develop confidence as a player too, and playing for you
- 10:12Speaker 7: and you as the coach allowing them to do these
- 10:15Speaker 7: kinds of things and get that second chance. He said,
- 10:17Speaker 7: it's enjoyable to play for you because you allow your
- 10:20Speaker 7: players to have that second chance. So what does that
- 10:22Speaker 7: What does that mean to you when players receive your
- 10:24Speaker 7: message well and then go and perform on it.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Well, I think you know, a great part of coaching
- 10:33Speaker 2: is educating, educating, and I just try to put myself
- 10:38Speaker 2: in their shoes when I was in college and you
- 10:40Speaker 2: had so much to learn, and when you have coaches
- 10:43Speaker 2: that you know will believe in you and let you
- 10:47Speaker 2: make a mistake, it's just I don't want to see
- 10:50Speaker 2: guys make the same mistake twice. But when that starts happening,
- 10:53Speaker 2: then there's going to be different conversations.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:57Speaker 2: But when you're making a mistake and you're learning from
- 10:59Speaker 2: it and then you're correcting it because again, I said,
- 11:03Speaker 2: that's the sign of someone growing up and becoming a
- 11:05Speaker 2: really good player.
- 11:07Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Joe will go back to you.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Thanks keV. How have the other transfers other than Tyler
- 11:18Speaker 3: ingratiated themselves? Viking, Nick and Hugh?
- 11:23Speaker 2: While starting with Viking, I think he's really been a
- 11:29Speaker 2: stable defenseman for us back there. He does a lot
- 11:33Speaker 2: of little things, whether it's blocking shots, breaking pucks out,
- 11:37Speaker 2: getting a stick on a puck. He's been a great
- 11:41Speaker 2: addition to our defensive core. And it's nice having a
- 11:45Speaker 2: guy with six six.
- 11:46Speaker 3: With a reach like that.
- 11:48Speaker 2: It's you know, he's a It's a nice luxury to
- 11:52Speaker 2: have him back there. I think Hugh Larkin brings a
- 11:57Speaker 2: big presence to our lineup. You know, we have a
- 12:01Speaker 2: lot of guys that can skate and are quick, you know,
- 12:03Speaker 2: with Tattle and Muldowney and Shandor, but they're not the
- 12:09Speaker 2: biggest guys with with size, and Hugh brings you know,
- 12:13Speaker 2: that different element to our group up front. Uh And
- 12:17Speaker 2: I thought Nick Carabin's played dynamite on defense. He might
- 12:19Speaker 2: have had uh Saturday night might have been one of
- 12:23Speaker 2: his best games he's played. But it's just a maturity, Joe,
- 12:26Speaker 2: a calmness back there that uh, you know, it is
- 12:31Speaker 2: nice to have with a defensive court. Okay, especially two
- 12:37Speaker 2: young defensemen we have back there. So the kids are
- 12:40Speaker 2: coming along too, I mean Pascucci. And it seems like
- 12:45Speaker 2: Trey's playing with more confidence every game.
- 12:48Speaker 3: The tray's tray has been dynamite since we've put him
- 12:51Speaker 3: in the lineup.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yes, go ahead, Randy. One more for me.
- 12:59Speaker 5: I we can't go a session without talking about Richard
- 13:02Speaker 5: and Muldowney hooking up on another sweet goal. And I
- 13:07Speaker 5: just you know, obviously we've talked a lot about their chemistry,
- 13:10Speaker 5: but I wondered if there was a time before the
- 13:12Speaker 5: season where like, you saw that chemistry and the potential
- 13:17Speaker 5: of what it could be and now to see that,
- 13:20Speaker 5: you know, it done on the ice in game action.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Was there like a you know, a moment where you
- 13:25Speaker 5: saw them on the ice in preseason said Wow, these
- 13:28Speaker 5: two really have something here.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I don't know, if it was on the ice, I
- 13:37Speaker 3: would you know, they're both right shots, so they're typically
- 13:41Speaker 3: both right you know, they've been right wings in the past.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Neither one of them.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Has played left I'd be lying if I didn't put
- 13:51Speaker 2: them together because of how much they're together off the ice,
- 13:55Speaker 2: so you know, they lived together, they're together quite a
- 13:59Speaker 2: bit off the ice, and I thought it might let's
- 14:02Speaker 2: try this, you know, they maybe they'll have some compatibility
- 14:06Speaker 2: on the ice as well. And it's worked out between
- 14:10Speaker 2: those two in Ethan. It seems like it's been a
- 14:12Speaker 2: great combination.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Great, thank you.
- 14:15Speaker 1: We got anything else for coach, guys?
- 14:17Speaker 3: Awesome?
- 14:17Speaker 1: Well, thank you everyone, coach.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Good luck this weekend, all right, you guys have a
- 14:20Speaker 3: great day. Thanks coach, Thank you.
