- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patrick gets unfiltered, he gets the haircut, then he's traded.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's hair today, gone tomorrow. So mad he didn't get
- 0:18Speaker 1: the right guy. It's like, can I just has he
- 0:25Speaker 1: signed with anyone? He hasn't. But the fact that I
- 0:29Speaker 1: think he's a good player, but I don't think he's
- 0:31Speaker 1: in his prime, much like I know mccauody's not in
- 0:33Speaker 1: this spot. Right, Paul thinks the guy who stays on
- 0:37Speaker 1: his own team is more valuable. Then so that Eric
- 0:40Speaker 1: I caught that too. I didn't want to go down
- 0:42Speaker 1: that road. I get it. That's that's thanks, that's stupid.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It's funny for you normally the most humorless guy on
- 0:49Speaker 1: the playoff. I just said that I wouldn't want Tyron Matthew.
- 0:52Speaker 1: He looked at me like, I just like, you know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: ate an onion or something better from last year? No
- 0:57Speaker 1: over wake of it. Liked they that way? Really talking
- 1:01Speaker 1: about three players at this point, right, Slater, mccordy and
- 1:04Speaker 1: now James White. That's that's too too many in my opinion,
- 1:08Speaker 1: Like I don't get really dramatic. Paul's on Fired today
- 1:11Speaker 1: kind of linebacker drives around in a Mini Cooper. I
- 1:14Speaker 1: mean that was ridiculous. This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:21Speaker 1: All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:25Speaker 1: at Gilette Stadium, and boy, we got a lot to
- 1:28Speaker 1: talk about. Paul's not here today. It's Duce, Eric, myself,
- 1:31Speaker 1: Matt in the booth. Paul's on NC double a vacation.
- 1:35Speaker 1: He's gotta like he's got to watch these things. Take
- 1:38Speaker 1: the day off. It's like he's seat belting into his couch,
- 1:42Speaker 1: right yeah, I mean, god forbid he misses, you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: Dayton and Cincinnati or whoever the hell's playing. I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 1: he's probably already. It's also Saint Patrick's Day, so he
- 1:54Speaker 1: got built an excuse, but he was all fired up.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Who was it was Good's day. He's he's like not happy.
- 1:59Speaker 1: He was so fired up. We didn't even talk about
- 2:01Speaker 1: Tom Brady. I know everybody called it. Did you do
- 2:04Speaker 1: it on purpose? I'm we're so done. We had a
- 2:07Speaker 1: two hour show on Tuesday and we didn't even talk
- 2:09Speaker 1: about Tom Brady coming back, and as Chris fur said, well,
- 2:12Speaker 1: he didn't mention us feel Yeah, I mean, and I
- 2:16Speaker 1: don't think we're gonna talk about a lot about that
- 2:18Speaker 1: today because we've got a lot of more propressing issues
- 2:23Speaker 1: to discuss. Terrence Mitchell, my god, yeah, well that's his name,
- 2:27Speaker 1: A signing, a signing. Yeah, we don't even have us signing. Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 1: we have us signing. The Shack Mason trade. That's a
- 2:34Speaker 1: big that's a big deal which is yet to be
- 2:36Speaker 1: confirmed because the aforementioned us, the Cruise and Sody trade.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Me because I'm chilling on maybe one of the reasons
- 2:42Speaker 1: they can't make any moves is because they haven't cleared
- 2:44Speaker 1: the seven million off the cat must be some trade,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you know, thing you could tell the league it's gonna happen.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You know, I know those aren't the rules. Can you
- 2:52Speaker 1: give us? That's what I was probot. We have to
- 2:55Speaker 1: you know, yeah, because it's gonna happen and get a
- 2:57Speaker 1: physical and the leagues, the league sitting there like, ah, shocks,
- 3:00Speaker 1: too bad, too bad. But that's what legitimately wonder was
- 3:04Speaker 1: is this going to hold things up? And then they have,
- 3:06Speaker 1: you know, another maybe free agent that they'd like to
- 3:08Speaker 1: move on, but they can't officially yet. I don't know
- 3:10Speaker 1: how that that all works. I think that's what's going on.
- 3:12Speaker 1: I would hope that that they would have been like,
- 3:14Speaker 1: does anyone know where Shack Mason is before we trade him?
- 3:17Speaker 1: In the middle of we were saying like, yeah, there's
- 3:19Speaker 1: no like reception on the boat. So he hasn't like
- 3:21Speaker 1: gotten the word yet that he's been traded. And well,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I mean that's the big thing, um that everyone's wondering,
- 3:27Speaker 1: is what are the Patriots going to do? What are
- 3:30Speaker 1: you know? They got rid of Winovich? Yea, they just
- 3:32Speaker 1: traded Shack Mason, which I think a mild shot, a
- 3:35Speaker 1: mild surprise. Yeah. So, but I'd like to point out that,
- 3:39Speaker 1: I mean, I've been saying for two months that he
- 3:41Speaker 1: was a contract that could get shoved or readjusted. Him
- 3:44Speaker 1: and Jonathan Jones, those were the two. So I don't
- 3:46Speaker 1: think the player was surprising. I think that the compensation
- 3:49Speaker 1: was surprising, But I think what they got in terms
- 3:52Speaker 1: of the cap space that they needed, and you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: the fifth rounder, it's it's it's there's no there's no
- 3:57Speaker 1: sugarcoating it. And I had some weird conversations with Paul
- 4:01Speaker 1: yesterday to you know, which is it's just funny because
- 4:03Speaker 1: on one hand, you know, he definitely wasn't happy about it,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but he also doesn't really value offensive linsive linemen, especially guards,
- 4:10Speaker 1: so right, and but what it does to me my
- 4:14Speaker 1: reaction is, Okay, we already knew going into this offseason
- 4:16Speaker 1: you had needs at cornerback, wide receiver. Um, you know,
- 4:23Speaker 1: depending on how you look at it, running back maybe,
- 4:26Speaker 1: but definitely edge or outside linebacker. Now you have to
- 4:30Speaker 1: add offensive line to the mix because you lose two
- 4:33Speaker 1: starting guards. You're probably not going to resign Trent Brown,
- 4:36Speaker 1: who's I think visiting Seattle, but said New England still
- 4:39Speaker 1: in the mix. I think that's a go and check
- 4:41Speaker 1: it out. Yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't put rule the
- 4:43Speaker 1: Patriots out just because he's looking elsewhere. No, but I mean,
- 4:46Speaker 1: but it's possible chances. I mean, he's done this before.
- 4:48Speaker 1: He played like he hasn't slept in ten days. Anyway,
- 4:53Speaker 1: that's okay, you like to say this is radio. Uh,
- 4:58Speaker 1: he's done this before. He played here for a year,
- 5:00Speaker 1: cash in on a big deal, then when that team
- 5:02Speaker 1: didn't want him be came back. Now he played well
- 5:05Speaker 1: he's probably gonna cash in on a bigger deal than
- 5:07Speaker 1: we're likely to pay him. Yeah, it sounds like he
- 5:10Speaker 1: wants a long term place that he can kind of
- 5:12Speaker 1: put roots. He's been bouncing around for a few years.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I think now you have to add offensive line too.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Even if Brown comes back, I'd still think you have
- 5:19Speaker 1: an issue with that interior. Sure, so offensive line is
- 5:23Speaker 1: now one of yet another issue that you have to
- 5:27Speaker 1: deal with this offseason. Yeah, and now I'm hoping that
- 5:30Speaker 1: he goes out, gets collects his offers, comes back here
- 5:33Speaker 1: and says, okay, we can do that, and he comes back.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'd be down, I hope. Yeah, I'd be down to
- 5:38Speaker 1: keep him. I mean, I think that he's there's not
- 5:40Speaker 1: many guys out there that big, and you can't teach size.
- 5:43Speaker 1: He's the biggest guy in the NFS still, and he's
- 5:45Speaker 1: cool in his twenties. And I know that, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I think he started the first couple of games he
- 5:49Speaker 1: played last year when he came back was great, and
- 5:51Speaker 1: I think he was okay after that, and you know,
- 5:52Speaker 1: not quite as dominant in spurts. But I'd still sign
- 5:55Speaker 1: up for him at right tackle. And I know that
- 5:57Speaker 1: they've been connected to Layale call. They'd have to trade
- 6:03Speaker 1: for him. They have to. I mean he I think
- 6:06Speaker 1: I saw he has ten million a year for the
- 6:08Speaker 1: next three years. That's a lot. Yeah, Now what do
- 6:12Speaker 1: you what would you be willing to pay Trent Brown
- 6:15Speaker 1: right somewhere in that neighborhood I would imagine, right. Yeah,
- 6:18Speaker 1: So either it's I mean, if you're willing to pay
- 6:20Speaker 1: that much for l Collins might as well play Brown.
- 6:23Speaker 1: I don't know if Collins injury history, if he's a
- 6:25Speaker 1: little bit more durable, Yeah, sure. I think he's got
- 6:27Speaker 1: some off the field issues too. Is that why the
- 6:29Speaker 1: Cowboys want to get rid of him? Mention? I'm not
- 6:31Speaker 1: sure why they want to why why his name is
- 6:33Speaker 1: in the mix. But I think he's had he's had
- 6:35Speaker 1: some issues that make them movable. But it's it's a need.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And Isaiah Wynn, I mean, I don't think anybody feels
- 6:40Speaker 1: like he's the long term solution at left tackle. I've
- 6:43Speaker 1: seen plenty people still speculating moving into guard. So Matt
- 6:46Speaker 1: Matt Chaddam was tweeting about a Boston college guard that
- 6:50Speaker 1: is a sure thing. John, Yeah, I he's one story. Yeah. Yeah.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I talked to him at the combine, and uh yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I liked him. I liked him, just you know, he's
- 7:00Speaker 1: take him in the first round. Well he's That's probably
- 7:03Speaker 1: the area. I don't know what the Patriots should but
- 7:05Speaker 1: that's probably the area he's gonna go. But correct me
- 7:07Speaker 1: if I'm wrong. But he looks like he has the
- 7:09Speaker 1: size and sort of versatility to play either guard or tackle.
- 7:15Speaker 1: That sounds more like a tackle than a guard. Really athletic,
- 7:18Speaker 1: really athletic guy. So I mean, if you're gonna take
- 7:20Speaker 1: someone in the first round, it should be somebody who
- 7:23Speaker 1: is like even Mankins. He wasn't he played guard here,
- 7:27Speaker 1: but like he he played tackle on occasion when they
- 7:30Speaker 1: needed him to. Yeah, as a pro, I mean, if
- 7:34Speaker 1: you're gonna take a guy like that in the first round,
- 7:37Speaker 1: he should be able to do more than one thing.
- 7:38Speaker 1: He should be an offensive lineman, not just a guard
- 7:41Speaker 1: in my opinion, Yeah, at least because Scion Johnson sounds
- 7:45Speaker 1: like that kind of blue chip left tackle. Yeah yeah, yeah, sure,
- 7:48Speaker 1: which is uh, you know, just disappointing. You get a
- 7:51Speaker 1: first round pick you think, you know, win would have
- 7:53Speaker 1: been that guy, and had they hit on that one,
- 7:55Speaker 1: that would be locked down and you wouldn't have to
- 7:57Speaker 1: think about that part of it too. But you're right,
- 8:00Speaker 1: you're right, there's a I think we're still in kind
- 8:02Speaker 1: of the holding mode. I thought yesterday I thought it
- 8:03Speaker 1: was like Day one, take care of our own guys.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Day two, a couple of trades. Day three we strike No,
- 8:07Speaker 1: not quite who we're still waiting for that. By the way,
- 8:10Speaker 1: what's Matt shoot On doing? Do you hear? You see
- 8:13Speaker 1: his tweets? Oh? Yeah, after recruiting. Yeah, it's funny, it's
- 8:16Speaker 1: a little embarrassing. I wonder what the two look thinks
- 8:18Speaker 1: about that. I do. And he's getting mad when they know,
- 8:22Speaker 1: like frustration give He's like he's like the representative of
- 8:25Speaker 1: the Patriots fan right now. Right he's out there like saying, yo, yo,
- 8:28Speaker 1: want to come play here? No? Why not? Come on? Man? Yeah?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Sending now Julio Jones like a picture just of Matt
- 8:33Speaker 1: Jones standing there and like a T shirt, Like what
- 8:35Speaker 1: do you think of this? You should have sent him
- 8:37Speaker 1: the gift of him doing the gritty right, I know,
- 8:39Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more appealing. It's my quarterback. It's funny,
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's funny. I do wonder you know how they feel
- 8:44Speaker 1: about it. They Slater talk today and he was laughing
- 8:47Speaker 1: about it and thought it was was in good fun
- 8:49Speaker 1: and you know said how you know chewed on Just
- 8:51Speaker 1: his personality has been been great and a lot of
- 8:53Speaker 1: fun and kind of a jolt of energy that they needed.
- 8:55Speaker 1: So um, we'll see. I don't know how much his
- 8:58Speaker 1: recruiting he's helping so far yet, but yeah, I mean
- 9:00Speaker 1: Julio Jones. You know, at this point, i'd pay him
- 9:04Speaker 1: for a vetem minimum I bring him in, but I
- 9:07Speaker 1: don't know if I'd waste a lot of money on him. Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I would rather get a young waste. I don't think
- 9:12Speaker 1: I'd spend a lot of money. Yeah, I would rather
- 9:14Speaker 1: look to the draft for for that position at this point. Well,
- 9:17Speaker 1: I do both if you can, if you can, yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 1: well there's still guys out there too. I mean, so again,
- 9:24Speaker 1: bringing in a free agent does not say you can't
- 9:26Speaker 1: draft that position. No, no no, no, no, I'm just trying
- 9:28Speaker 1: to Like I'm I'm thinking, if you sign a guy
- 9:31Speaker 1: like Julio Jones, the expectation is he's going to be
- 9:33Speaker 1: on your roster in September, right, Yeah, you're not thinking
- 9:36Speaker 1: of him as like a just a camp body you're
- 9:38Speaker 1: looking at him is to be a contributor. Yeah right,
- 9:42Speaker 1: so him born Agalore, Jacoby Meyers. You just tendered. So
- 9:48Speaker 1: if you draft somebody, where does that draft pick fall out?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Like right? It's a numbers game. And then you trade Agalore?
- 9:54Speaker 1: You know, I don't know? Yeah maybe, I mean I
- 9:57Speaker 1: think you know. Gunner, we'll see what happens with him.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Didn't get tendered, so you i'd have you know, we
- 10:00Speaker 1: need for a punt return, so maybe you get a
- 10:02Speaker 1: rookie he can return punts and be kind of that
- 10:04Speaker 1: spot four fifth receiver. But oh and chances of our
- 10:08Speaker 1: drafting Alley Raceman just went up too. Huh, why need
- 10:14Speaker 1: Yakob's going to Vegas? I need another European, need another
- 10:17Speaker 1: German speaking person? Really upset they didn't consult me before
- 10:21Speaker 1: they made that move. Yeah, Jacob signed with Vague Raiders
- 10:26Speaker 1: for about a million bucks. We couldn't give him a
- 10:27Speaker 1: million bucks, so so did good old Bolden. Bolden's over
- 10:30Speaker 1: there too. Yeah. See, now you know Paul was worried
- 10:34Speaker 1: about keeping all these old players, and all I see
- 10:36Speaker 1: is them leaving. Yeah. Well, but see, in fairness, Josh
- 10:40Speaker 1: is kind of doing what Yeah, a lot of coaches
- 10:43Speaker 1: do when they go to a new team, like Belichick
- 10:46Speaker 1: did it when he went to the Browns, or Parcels
- 10:48Speaker 1: did it when he came to the Patriots, or when
- 10:50Speaker 1: he went to from here to the Jets. You take
- 10:52Speaker 1: a few older guys, a handful that are right familiar
- 10:55Speaker 1: with your system, that are circle the wagons guys, and
- 10:59Speaker 1: we're keeping a few. And Paul's going crazy about that. Well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: he was also in a mood on Tuesday, was he Yeah?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Because I made him right. I made him right. I
- 11:09Speaker 1: don't think it was you necessarily that he was upset.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think he just had a good show and he
- 11:13Speaker 1: had energy and was reacting as as the fans are
- 11:15Speaker 1: doing right now too, of you know, everybody getting up
- 11:19Speaker 1: and on. But there is this exodus we're seeing, you know, uh,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, people leaving and not being resigned and not
- 11:26Speaker 1: being tendered, and people wonder what are the Patriots doing?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Is this a rebuild total rebuild year or are they
- 11:35Speaker 1: gearing up for a big move. I don't think it's
- 11:38Speaker 1: the latter, you know, because because I think that would
- 11:41Speaker 1: have happened already. You know. Well, but again we bring
- 11:44Speaker 1: up the shack thing, like there there's seven million roughly
- 11:48Speaker 1: of cap space that you would need to make a
- 11:50Speaker 1: bigger move. By the way, the cap is crap, so
- 11:52Speaker 1: it's as well until it's don't have to say that
- 11:55Speaker 1: to me. I mean, I'm not the proponent of that.
- 11:57Speaker 1: That's Paul's thing, but but a lot of our fans
- 12:00Speaker 1: have been saying it because they see who is it
- 12:02Speaker 1: that just signed the bills? Well a million eight million
- 12:06Speaker 1: in cap space and they signed von Miller and obviously
- 12:09Speaker 1: they pushed it all to the future. What they give
- 12:11Speaker 1: him fifty in the first three years or something, Yeah,
- 12:14Speaker 1: something like that. It's about forty I think, just under
- 12:16Speaker 1: fifty million guarantee in the first three and then I
- 12:17Speaker 1: think then it's kind of year to years. Right, you
- 12:19Speaker 1: can do whatever you want, but there are consequences down
- 12:24Speaker 1: the road for that, and there comes a time you
- 12:26Speaker 1: can't kick the can anywhere at some point. Yeah, there's
- 12:29Speaker 1: always ways to manipulate, but that doesn't mean it's crap.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Right to me, that's nuanced. It's just lazy. That's just lazy,
- 12:37Speaker 1: and it comes back to bite you. And I think
- 12:38Speaker 1: that that's what you know happened with Shaq Mason. You know,
- 12:41Speaker 1: it's at a certain time where you're working with a
- 12:42Speaker 1: big money deal over a bunch of years, you can
- 12:44Speaker 1: finagle stuff even if you go into the season not
- 12:47Speaker 1: having in cap space. But you know, when it comes
- 12:49Speaker 1: down to the league's about to start, you guys have
- 12:51Speaker 1: three million in cap space. You're gonna need at least
- 12:53Speaker 1: five to get through the draft and all that you're
- 12:56Speaker 1: forced you have to do something. So that that's why
- 13:00Speaker 1: you kind of saw it coming. But I just think
- 13:02Speaker 1: it's about last year's free agent I mean last year,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I did they did what one hundred and sixty three
- 13:06Speaker 1: million guaranteed money last year? So far this year sixteen,
- 13:10Speaker 1: so a tenth of what they gave out last year.
- 13:12Speaker 1: But last year was a NFL record, was it not? Yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 1: And that's I'm not going to set an ord's in
- 13:17Speaker 1: perspective of I think what you know, because the cap
- 13:20Speaker 1: is crap. I think it's about guaranteed money, and it's
- 13:22Speaker 1: about how much of Robert Kraft's money are you now
- 13:24Speaker 1: handing out. Devin mccordy be in the big one, which
- 13:27Speaker 1: I think you know is we've discussed that plenty quead No.
- 13:30Speaker 1: I was just gonna just gonna add to that like
- 13:32Speaker 1: if they had done exactly what they did last year
- 13:36Speaker 1: and they hadn't petered out the way they did at
- 13:40Speaker 1: the end of the year. Like let's say they they
- 13:42Speaker 1: won two of those final four games that they looked
- 13:46Speaker 1: just atrocious in and even beaten the Bills somehow in
- 13:50Speaker 1: that first playoff, or even if they didn't, even if
- 13:52Speaker 1: they didn't beat them, but let's say they were competitive
- 13:57Speaker 1: in that game. Because they were just not competitive at all,
- 14:01Speaker 1: maybe the ownership who signs the checks looks at it
- 14:04Speaker 1: a little bit differently this year, even though that there's
- 14:08Speaker 1: limited there's limited space for them to you know, to
- 14:11Speaker 1: work with anyway. But maybe he looks at it and says, well,
- 14:14Speaker 1: I spent all that money and that's what you got me.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I mean, look how we ended the seat like that
- 14:18Speaker 1: left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.
- 14:19Speaker 1: If they had, if they had been a different outcome
- 14:22Speaker 1: to the season last year, they might have been a
- 14:24Speaker 1: little bit more willing to do something, a little bit
- 14:25Speaker 1: more creative with, you know, a von Miller type. So
- 14:28Speaker 1: you think so Robert Kraft said, yeah, you spent your
- 14:31Speaker 1: money last year, We're not doing it again. You know, well,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I think I think it partially might have to do
- 14:38Speaker 1: with how the season work, and you're saying that had
- 14:41Speaker 1: they had been better, he would have said, Okay, I'm
- 14:44Speaker 1: more willing to do yeah, a little bit more. I mean,
- 14:46Speaker 1: they're not going to spend record numbers because they don't
- 14:48Speaker 1: have that money to spend, but he might have been
- 14:50Speaker 1: more willing to try to take I hope not. I
- 14:53Speaker 1: hope that's not the case because because I don't want
- 14:56Speaker 1: my owner, I don't care who it is making football decisions. Now.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I get it, he's got he's got the purse strings.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But we're not talking about replicating what they did last year.
- 15:07Speaker 1: But I would hate to think that if Bill came
- 15:10Speaker 1: in and said, hey, I think Khalil Matt can really
- 15:14Speaker 1: help this team. He's the one guy I want to
- 15:16Speaker 1: get this offseason, I would hate to say. I would
- 15:18Speaker 1: hate to think that. Robert Kraft said no, I would
- 15:21Speaker 1: hate that. I mean, I hear what they're saying, but
- 15:25Speaker 1: I just think it's more about you invested all this
- 15:27Speaker 1: money into these guys. Let them have a second year.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You know everybody wanted to just cut a smith. Let
- 15:34Speaker 1: them have another year. You spent the money. Iglore's off
- 15:36Speaker 1: the books after this year if you hate him so
- 15:38Speaker 1: much and that there's nothing more to discuss with him.
- 15:40Speaker 1: But you know, I think everybody deserves a chance. With
- 15:42Speaker 1: the way that they built a team last year to
- 15:44Speaker 1: to to build off of what they did or didn't do.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I think there was so much focus on making sure
- 15:50Speaker 1: mac Jones was put in a position to succeed. I
- 15:53Speaker 1: think that comes at a cost, and it comes at
- 15:55Speaker 1: the cost of you know, offensive complexity. You know, people talk, oh,
- 15:58Speaker 1: the Patriots offense is so you know complex. Not last year, Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 1: it was not. How many teams told us that it
- 16:05Speaker 1: was easy to defend the Patriots. That's not just because
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, they didn't have a guy with a complex
- 16:10Speaker 1: route tree. It's because they were running a fairly simple
- 16:14Speaker 1: offense because they had a rookie quarterback. Yeah, I'm with you, dudes.
- 16:18Speaker 1: You know, second year jump for these guys, especially when
- 16:23Speaker 1: their first year was with a rookie quarterback. So now
- 16:26Speaker 1: everybody's gonna take a second year jump, including the guys
- 16:29Speaker 1: that you signed. So let's you know, right, and they're
- 16:31Speaker 1: out at some field somewhere probably right now throwing. You know,
- 16:34Speaker 1: some of those guys are I also think, though, and
- 16:38Speaker 1: it's going around right now. Bill Simmons tweeted out the
- 16:40Speaker 1: Patriots drafts from like fifteen to nineteen. It's pretty grim,
- 16:44Speaker 1: as we all know. But I think it's also about
- 16:46Speaker 1: letting these young guys play. And you got to find
- 16:48Speaker 1: out with some of these and I'm hoping, and you've
- 16:50Speaker 1: been hoping for many you know, for all three years
- 16:52Speaker 1: you've been here like can we can we can we
- 16:53Speaker 1: turn it over? We're gonna have to turn it over
- 16:55Speaker 1: at some point, High Tower of Collins vanois. Those guys
- 16:57Speaker 1: aren't going to play forever. They're not going to be
- 16:59Speaker 1: around if when Mac Jones is leading this team to
- 17:01Speaker 1: the you know, playoff runs and that kind of thing.
- 17:03Speaker 1: So I think they have to give these guys a
- 17:06Speaker 1: chance otherwise, if they just kind of toil, you go out,
- 17:08Speaker 1: you sign a bunch of free agents, and now you
- 17:10Speaker 1: push them, keep them down in the depth chart, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: as Paul's Fauna saying, you finally get a chance to
- 17:14Speaker 1: look at Ucha and his last year he plays well,
- 17:16Speaker 1: and then he's gone because you know that they don't
- 17:18Speaker 1: want to pay him. So I think it's those two things.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I think it's about free agent development. I think it's
- 17:22Speaker 1: about the rookies and the young guys getting a chance
- 17:24Speaker 1: to play. And I also think that they're waiting in
- 17:25Speaker 1: the weeds and they're gonna make some signings that wow,
- 17:28Speaker 1: that's a good deal for that guy. Well you I
- 17:30Speaker 1: think there's still those moves to come. They need to
- 17:32Speaker 1: sign a bunch of guys. It's not like this is it.
- 17:34Speaker 1: You know, what's the sixty five. I mean, there's twenty
- 17:37Speaker 1: five more people are going to be on this roster
- 17:39Speaker 1: by the time you know, May rolls around, So do
- 17:42Speaker 1: the math. They will be additions. But this is more
- 17:45Speaker 1: like the Patriots do it. And that's why it's so
- 17:47Speaker 1: surprising to see people just losing their minds, as if
- 17:51Speaker 1: last year wasn't the outlier, and it felt like everybody
- 17:53Speaker 1: acknowledged They're like, wow, this is crazy. Isn't this great?
- 17:55Speaker 1: You know? And it's like, well, this year, did you
- 17:57Speaker 1: really think that that was the new way they were
- 17:59Speaker 1: going to do things? They went back to how they
- 18:01Speaker 1: do things. I think they had to. I think, you know,
- 18:03Speaker 1: what Eric said is a little bit of it, But
- 18:05Speaker 1: I think it's just them managing. They gave out a
- 18:07Speaker 1: bunch of big deals last year. You got to see
- 18:09Speaker 1: who the good players are moving forward, and then next
- 18:11Speaker 1: year you got another big chump chunk of cap space
- 18:13Speaker 1: to reallocate, refocus on who you want to build a
- 18:16Speaker 1: team around and moving forward. Yeah, I think I'm with
- 18:20Speaker 1: you there. However, um, you know, when you trade away
- 18:26Speaker 1: Shaq Mason and you may not sign Trent Brown and
- 18:31Speaker 1: your defense is sort of being gutted, you know, I
- 18:35Speaker 1: think that you got to do something. It's not going
- 18:38Speaker 1: to all come through the draft, you know. So, so
- 18:42Speaker 1: I don't blame fans for wondering, Okay, what is the deal?
- 18:45Speaker 1: Are they just kind of and and I heard I
- 18:47Speaker 1: see somebody use the word tanking. I wouldn't use that word,
- 18:51Speaker 1: But are they sort of just you know, letting this
- 18:54Speaker 1: year be what it is in order to build up,
- 18:57Speaker 1: you know, for the future. Yeah, I think people get
- 19:00Speaker 1: the definition of the word rebuild. It doesn't happen overnight, right,
- 19:05Speaker 1: So I think and I think people got a little
- 19:07Speaker 1: bit um, you know, false hope last year when they
- 19:10Speaker 1: had that seven game win streak and it looked like,
- 19:13Speaker 1: oh look back back already, back already, and that I
- 19:20Speaker 1: remember us. That was funny though, But you know, these things,
- 19:26Speaker 1: it's called a rebuild for a reason. You have to
- 19:29Speaker 1: do things that it's gonna cause some pain for a
- 19:32Speaker 1: little while, and you might have to make some sacrifices.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And maybe they thought last year they weren't sure whether
- 19:38Speaker 1: or not they wanted to or not, which is why
- 19:41Speaker 1: I think they brought back some guys like you know, uh,
- 19:44Speaker 1: Jamie Collins in the middle of the season, or made
- 19:46Speaker 1: some of the older guys play a little bit more
- 19:48Speaker 1: because maybe they kind of felt like, oh, we are
- 19:51Speaker 1: we were kind of there, We're kind of in the mix,
- 19:53Speaker 1: or you know, I think they were a little torn
- 19:55Speaker 1: internally about whether or not it was a complete teart
- 19:58Speaker 1: to the studs thing, because they also went and signed
- 20:00Speaker 1: all these players. Well that's the thing, you know, you
- 20:02Speaker 1: know it was. It was a weird year. Yeah, you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: the cat went way down. You had a rookie quarterback
- 20:07Speaker 1: eighty because of COVID. Right, we were one of the
- 20:10Speaker 1: few teams that had money. Right, So even if you
- 20:13Speaker 1: went in and thought, oh, okay, twenty twenty one is
- 20:16Speaker 1: gonna be a tear it to the studies, then all
- 20:18Speaker 1: of a sudden you're presented with this opportunity, right, all right, well,
- 20:21Speaker 1: let's do it. We can do that and still kind
- 20:24Speaker 1: of go on that rebuild. Yeah, you know so, and
- 20:27Speaker 1: you get a rookie quarterback, right who normally rookie quarterbacks
- 20:31Speaker 1: don't do anything for you in their first year, and
- 20:34Speaker 1: you have to start building around them. So the thing
- 20:37Speaker 1: that concerns me right now is that we don't know
- 20:40Speaker 1: who the offensive coordinator is. We don't know who's going
- 20:44Speaker 1: to be taking Mac under his wing as far as
- 20:47Speaker 1: the coach goes quarterbacks coach or oh see what even
- 20:50Speaker 1: if they're both the same. We don't know what the
- 20:52Speaker 1: offensive line is going to look like right now in
- 20:55Speaker 1: terms of starting right We don't know who the offensive
- 20:59Speaker 1: line coaches. We don't know what the offensive line is
- 21:01Speaker 1: gonna look like. This is a very important year for Mac,
- 21:05Speaker 1: for any player going into their second year, but especially
- 21:07Speaker 1: a quarterback, a franchise quarterback. There's a lot of uncertainty
- 21:11Speaker 1: surrounding him, a lot more than I would be comfortable
- 21:14Speaker 1: with if I were, you know, in charge of this team.
- 21:17Speaker 1: The protection protection, I mean, that's just the protection and developed,
- 21:20Speaker 1: especially right up in the middle. You know, two new guards.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I mean, I think, I mean, maybe this opens up
- 21:24Speaker 1: a chance for him when you did it to play
- 21:25Speaker 1: right guard, which he really hasn't been able to do.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I mean, he was kind of put into the tuney
- 21:28Speaker 1: spot last year at left guard. But you know, I
- 21:32Speaker 1: think you feel good about that, you feel good about Andrews.
- 21:34Speaker 1: But I think you're right. There's questions and who's going
- 21:37Speaker 1: to get these guys ready, and especially for a quick
- 21:39Speaker 1: passing quarterback like Mac, like up the middle, like you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: making sure that that he's secure and he trusts him.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm not too worried about the offensive line. I think
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm probably more on Paul side of the street with like,
- 21:49Speaker 1: if you've got to choose a position to turnover, right
- 21:51Speaker 1: guard will probably be the first one I would choose.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Nothing against Shack Mason, but but just remember how how
- 21:58Speaker 1: many times we gritted our teeth in the first half
- 22:01Speaker 1: of last year watching Mac get clabbered, took some really
- 22:05Speaker 1: tough hits, and then things kind of settled down mid
- 22:08Speaker 1: season on they settled on A five. Those guys pretty
- 22:11Speaker 1: much played the rest of the season, and things were
- 22:13Speaker 1: better for him. He had more time. If you've got
- 22:16Speaker 1: a situation like twenty fourteen, the beginning of twenty fourteen,
- 22:19Speaker 1: when it was a different combination of offensive lineman week
- 22:21Speaker 1: to week. That's not good, Bob, No, you don't want that.
- 22:25Speaker 1: And if he's back there trying to you know, process
- 22:28Speaker 1: information and he's getting you know, pressure from all sides,
- 22:32Speaker 1: like he was in the first half of last year. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: it's going to start his growth. But there's also I
- 22:36Speaker 1: think experienced four mac of identifying protections, knowing where when
- 22:40Speaker 1: he has to get the ball out, just understanding. I
- 22:42Speaker 1: think that's an element. If there's no question having a
- 22:45Speaker 1: good offensive line that plays well as part of it.
- 22:46Speaker 1: But I think part of it too, will be Max's
- 22:48Speaker 1: development understanding knowing where a bad line could make a
- 22:51Speaker 1: quarterback look bad, but a quarterback could make his line
- 22:54Speaker 1: look bad too. A little bit of breaking news. A
- 22:57Speaker 1: little bit of breaking news. The Bills have parted ways
- 22:59Speaker 1: with Cole Beasley. Oh okay, he's unvaccinated. I don't want
- 23:05Speaker 1: to We're over that. It's over. That doesn't matter anymore.
- 23:10Speaker 1: And no, seriously, the league has lifted all They've done
- 23:14Speaker 1: things just like most yeah, places around the country and
- 23:18Speaker 1: around the world. Now we're starting to worry about that.
- 23:20Speaker 1: We still had a zoom with with Matthew Slayter this morning,
- 23:22Speaker 1: which I'm not complaining about. We can keep those those
- 23:25Speaker 1: media failag those are that's for convenience sake, Like that's easy. Yeah,
- 23:28Speaker 1: people don't have to leave their houses, you know. I
- 23:31Speaker 1: like that. But yeah, Colbas Beasley, I like it interesting. Yes,
- 23:36Speaker 1: I'm interested. When did you bring Chris Berman joined the show? Um? No,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I'm I'm into colesby Coles Beasley. Yeah, you know, for
- 23:47Speaker 1: the right price again, just what we need. Yeah, you
- 23:54Speaker 1: forget all those years you played for Dallas too, right,
- 23:56Speaker 1: playing the year part of Paul. Yeah, that's all we need.
- 23:59Speaker 1: But is he the kind of like like he's obviously
- 24:02Speaker 1: a good receiver, and especially at that position that's that's
- 24:05Speaker 1: really a prototypical slot receiver right there, Like is that
- 24:08Speaker 1: the kind of player you would love to get from Mac? Yes,
- 24:12Speaker 1: but as a rookie, you know, I'd rather get a
- 24:15Speaker 1: young guy and let him develop. I just that that's
- 24:17Speaker 1: what I want. I'd love to see two receivers in
- 24:19Speaker 1: the draft, which probably won't happen, but you know, get
- 24:22Speaker 1: somebody on day two and get somebody on day three. Um,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, because I think those slot receivers are out there,
- 24:28Speaker 1: you know, like Sky Moore is a guy that that
- 24:30Speaker 1: that everybody's kind of talking about with the Patriots. Sky's
- 24:32Speaker 1: the limb really fast, I hope. So two Wise um
- 24:36Speaker 1: Uh and Uh and Phillips from UCLA who is like
- 24:39Speaker 1: a little Wes Welker clone. So those are two like
- 24:41Speaker 1: just pure slot guy day three. I'm not trying to
- 24:43Speaker 1: sell you on him being the number one that everybody wants.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But um but Metchi too on day day two. I
- 24:49Speaker 1: think that would be for me. I like him. I
- 24:51Speaker 1: like him too. Get a macboo, you know, get maxim
- 24:54Speaker 1: booze guys that he I mean, Dante Scarneki has said it.
- 24:57Speaker 1: He needs a binkie. Yeah, you know, and maybe you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I think some of these guys developed, but I think
- 25:02Speaker 1: everybody will be better too, is you know, roles become
- 25:05Speaker 1: more defined and and you know you have guys pushing
- 25:08Speaker 1: guys at the bottom of the roster. So yeah, I'd
- 25:12Speaker 1: love to see that. I mean, I think they'll grab somebody,
- 25:14Speaker 1: some veteran in uh in free agency at some point.
- 25:18Speaker 1: But we'll see, all right. Eight five five five hundred
- 25:21Speaker 1: is the a sticket hut Line web radio at patriot
- 25:23Speaker 1: dot Com. Is the email address Paul is uh. I
- 25:26Speaker 1: watched the Bryant game last night. They played Wagner and
- 25:30Speaker 1: not Wagger. Uh was something State? Did that kid fight somebody? Yeah?
- 25:36Speaker 1: They played, didn't they? They played? I don't know anyway, anyway,
- 25:42Speaker 1: they they they they blew it. Yeah yeah, Kiss had
- 25:47Speaker 1: hit a lot of points, but a lot of them
- 25:48Speaker 1: came late. They did a good job, kind of like
- 25:50Speaker 1: I mean, it's their first time in the tournament. You know,
- 25:52Speaker 1: they got a little story. You know. I wanted them
- 25:54Speaker 1: to win so that they could Yeah, right right State,
- 25:58Speaker 1: right right, all right, all right, right. The Providence game
- 26:02Speaker 1: is about to tip off, is it shortly? Okay? So
- 26:04Speaker 1: I can watch them disappoint me in the first round.
- 26:06Speaker 1: South Dakota State, who is over five all time in
- 26:09Speaker 1: the NCAA tournament. Don't win, don't win? Just my luck?
- 26:13Speaker 1: All right? A five five pats five hundred is the
- 26:15Speaker 1: ace ticket hot line. Let's open it up. We'll start
- 26:18Speaker 1: with Eldred in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred? Hey? So
- 26:22Speaker 1: looks how y'all doing today? Good? Good? Deuce? I love you, man,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I love you. How you are you calling for Julio
- 26:28Speaker 1: Jones because I don't want him? No, no, I'm not
- 26:31Speaker 1: calling the Julio. I just joke. I juke it out.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I want, I want Williams and I won't they a
- 26:37Speaker 1: little slot receiving about the fourth round. But what I'm
- 26:39Speaker 1: mad about you? I mean, like I said, y'all praised
- 26:43Speaker 1: you all the time. But my question is you can
- 26:46Speaker 1: play the propole guard. I know he has sixteen mills
- 26:49Speaker 1: on the camp for five for the fifth round draft pick.
- 26:51Speaker 1: You can't get a second or a third that's gonna
- 26:54Speaker 1: hit about fifth round death? What special teams something like that?
- 26:58Speaker 1: You know, what were you special at? That's you know,
- 27:01Speaker 1: stuff like that makes that makes you got your head.
- 27:04Speaker 1: That's why fans is getting a little bit of like
- 27:06Speaker 1: a little little nod a little bit. I mean both
- 27:08Speaker 1: you frothing to help, but you signed eight thirty eight
- 27:10Speaker 1: thirty ye old and thinks that's gonna help. Where you
- 27:13Speaker 1: see what anybody else doing around the league, besh, in
- 27:15Speaker 1: your division and in the in the AFC, you know.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And then Paul mac like I said, like o't said earlier,
- 27:24Speaker 1: office court dater, who's gonna help, who's gonna tutor? Who's what?
- 27:28Speaker 1: There's a lot of questions. That's why we kind of frustrated,
- 27:30Speaker 1: Like and it's March. Three days in the free Edge,
- 27:33Speaker 1: It's March. I know, I look, I know, I get it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying. But do you know what
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm saying? Right? Yeah, Yeah, they've hit on about six
- 27:41Speaker 1: draft picks in the last five years. Jack Mason was
- 27:43Speaker 1: one of them, and they extended him, one of the
- 27:46Speaker 1: few to get it. And then and it hurts to
- 27:48Speaker 1: you know, move on from him, you know, But again,
- 27:51Speaker 1: these are like moves that happened on I don't mind
- 27:54Speaker 1: the moving on the parties. He still is prime sixteen,
- 27:57Speaker 1: but you will give him the Brady and you get
- 27:59Speaker 1: a fifth round, you can get a second or third.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I think that's as I think that's what most people
- 28:03Speaker 1: are upset about. Yeah, I don't know if, like you say,
- 28:06Speaker 1: he's in his prime, what is he like he's like
- 28:08Speaker 1: twenty nine, yeah, thirty, and he's a guard I mean
- 28:13Speaker 1: a fifth round pick because the other team has to
- 28:15Speaker 1: now pay his salary. Yeah, yeah, you know, so I
- 28:18Speaker 1: understand that too. That lowers the pick that he'll be
- 28:21Speaker 1: twenty nine in August. Yeah, so what I'm but he's
- 28:25Speaker 1: still young, still a young player, right, he's Yeah, he's
- 28:28Speaker 1: not ancient. They're about to forget what Harold looked right
- 28:32Speaker 1: on that right tackle when we played I think with
- 28:34Speaker 1: Buffalo when he got knocked over and they got the
- 28:37Speaker 1: map and then you know like he like man you
- 28:39Speaker 1: did to get him off the field, where you get
- 28:41Speaker 1: the quarterback kill a couple of plays. Everybody's forgetting about
- 28:44Speaker 1: that because what I'm saying, you got back there to
- 28:47Speaker 1: move up to the next that's what's we're in us. Yeah,
- 28:51Speaker 1: me especially Yeah, Yeah and Mac. Then bad draft, Like
- 28:56Speaker 1: I said, bad capital a Pro Bowl guard for a
- 28:59Speaker 1: fifth rounder. Yeah, ridiculous, I'm sorry, but but but what
- 29:05Speaker 1: do we know about what they could have got? Like
- 29:07Speaker 1: they got what they do? You think that they were like,
- 29:09Speaker 1: well the Rams will give us a second rounder, but
- 29:11Speaker 1: we want to go with the fifth. Like what they got?
- 29:13Speaker 1: What they got? Like I think they had to. I
- 29:15Speaker 1: think they had to weigh O. I think Eldred's saying,
- 29:17Speaker 1: you should have not if you couldn't get a second
- 29:19Speaker 1: or a third, you shouldn't have traded him. Well, but
- 29:21Speaker 1: I think you have to. Well, but see here's what
- 29:23Speaker 1: we don't know. What was more important to them? Thanks
- 29:26Speaker 1: Eldred getting compensation in a trade for Shack Mason or
- 29:29Speaker 1: clearing up Shack Mason's cap space. Clearly it was the money, right,
- 29:32Speaker 1: So I think they were willing to bite the bullet
- 29:34Speaker 1: on them. Okay, we can't get as much as we
- 29:36Speaker 1: want a compensation, but we really need to open up
- 29:38Speaker 1: the cap space. So I think that's what they were
- 29:40Speaker 1: looking at. I mean, we're not at privy to the
- 29:42Speaker 1: you know, the inner workings of the front office, but
- 29:45Speaker 1: when you look at it on its surface, oh yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 1: especially when they had that gap in the fifth round,
- 29:49Speaker 1: it almost seemed like they were like, we don't have
- 29:51Speaker 1: a fifth round, or could you just give us a
- 29:52Speaker 1: fifth for them? That would be fine, Yeah, because we
- 29:54Speaker 1: don't have a p we're gonna give you. Yeah. It's
- 30:02Speaker 1: like a child, you know. I just I have to
- 30:04Speaker 1: just say generally, Bill Belichick is like the gift to
- 30:08Speaker 1: Boston Sports radio because no one else can, like, year
- 30:12Speaker 1: after year, do it his own way. He doesn't care
- 30:15Speaker 1: what anybody thinks, and like they just go apoplectic, and
- 30:20Speaker 1: every year after year it's like, oh gah, I believe
- 30:22Speaker 1: what he's doing. And it's like, do you guys realize
- 30:24Speaker 1: how much energy he's giving all of this media circus
- 30:27Speaker 1: in Boston because he doesn't care when he's gone, like
- 30:30Speaker 1: and I know people are like railing against Bill. He's
- 30:33Speaker 1: he wants to win football games, like he wants to
- 30:35Speaker 1: win foot Like, don't try to call in like you
- 30:37Speaker 1: can tell me all the mistakes he's made. Great, nobody
- 30:41Speaker 1: wants to win football games more than he does. Well,
- 30:43Speaker 1: last year it was all he cares about is Schula's record.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Well that means now this year is he's tearing it
- 30:49Speaker 1: down to the studs. He's tanking. Okay, now he doesn't
- 30:52Speaker 1: want to win football games. Yeah, like what you can
- 30:55Speaker 1: call me a Belichick honk all you want. I just
- 30:58Speaker 1: don't want it to be boring. I don't want to
- 30:59Speaker 1: be one of the stupid teams that takes the chances
- 31:02Speaker 1: and all you know that he goes off the beaten path.
- 31:05Speaker 1: It's always interesting, and it just it fuels this whole
- 31:08Speaker 1: radio market where all season long, ninety percent of the
- 31:11Speaker 1: time they're talking about the Patriots and Bill of checking aha,
- 31:14Speaker 1: check why is he doing? But he just does it
- 31:16Speaker 1: his own way. Every year it's crazy and everyone's like
- 31:18Speaker 1: and even and like, so at a certain point you
- 31:20Speaker 1: just sit back and you're like, huh, just enjoy the chaos,
- 31:23Speaker 1: Just watch it all burned. Going back to the point
- 31:25Speaker 1: I was making earlier about how they were kind of
- 31:28Speaker 1: perhaps it looked like they were torn last year with
- 31:31Speaker 1: do we rebuild or do we try to make a
- 31:32Speaker 1: run at the playoffs. Maybe the way it ended, maybe
- 31:36Speaker 1: maybe Bill realized, Okay, maybe we're not as close as
- 31:39Speaker 1: I thought. Maybe it is time to go and choose
- 31:43Speaker 1: one one or the other, and it's maybe now it's
- 31:46Speaker 1: time to start looking seriously at tearing some things down
- 31:49Speaker 1: and starting over, which means getting rid of a guy
- 31:52Speaker 1: like Shack who makes a little bit more money than
- 31:53Speaker 1: you're comfortable with, clearing up space, hoping that some of
- 31:57Speaker 1: the guys you signed last year will take another step forward,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and acquiring more draft picks to try to build on
- 32:03Speaker 1: the momentum you've got with last year's draft, getting three
- 32:06Speaker 1: guys at the top who were all significant contributors all year.
- 32:10Speaker 1: So you know, maybe the maybe the rebuild is happening
- 32:14Speaker 1: a year later than people maybe first thought, but it's
- 32:18Speaker 1: it's it was bound to happen sooner or later. Yeah,
- 32:20Speaker 1: I just think last year there was an opportunity that
- 32:22Speaker 1: not exactly, and they opened the door, right and did
- 32:25Speaker 1: that maybe delay the complete rebuild a little bit. Yeah,
- 32:29Speaker 1: but now you've got you know, you've got Hunter Henry,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and you've got Kendrick Bourne and you know, and those
- 32:35Speaker 1: are you know, could be players for the next few years.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Match youot on. Yeah, we'll see, you know, And and
- 32:40Speaker 1: now we're hoping for second year jumps for you know,
- 32:43Speaker 1: Smith and war and if that happens, great, and hopefully
- 32:48Speaker 1: some of these younger players who haven't gotten a chance
- 32:50Speaker 1: to play will step up yet, right, Yeah, I just
- 32:53Speaker 1: I can't fault them. For Dante Hitier wanted to come
- 32:55Speaker 1: back after taking the COVID year off and saying, yeah, yeah,
- 32:59Speaker 1: of course of course she would take him back. And
- 33:01Speaker 1: thank god Brandon Bolden came back, right, I mean what
- 33:04Speaker 1: you know and had a career gait for him. Going
- 33:06Speaker 1: to see Josh, I dug up and the thing I
- 33:08Speaker 1: wrote just a quote Josh had had during the season
- 33:11Speaker 1: about Bolden about just everything he does, how much he's
- 33:13Speaker 1: and it was like, wow, obvious, why why Josh took him? Um?
- 33:17Speaker 1: You know, I think for me last year, the Van
- 33:19Speaker 1: Noy move when they brought him back, that was the
- 33:21Speaker 1: kind of little bit of a bummer to me, just
- 33:23Speaker 1: because I felt like they had an opportunity to have
- 33:26Speaker 1: a spot where a guy like Oocha or you know
- 33:28Speaker 1: with the time win of Itch or at the time Jennings,
- 33:30Speaker 1: you know, the young guys that you looked at last year,
- 33:32Speaker 1: that oh, there's an opportunity for them to work into
- 33:35Speaker 1: this rotation. Uh. And then I felt like when they
- 33:37Speaker 1: brought van Noy and then they doubled down with Collins,
- 33:39Speaker 1: it just pushed all those guys further. Do you think
- 33:43Speaker 1: that when Bill decided to bring van Noy back last year,
- 33:47Speaker 1: he does it because he knows what he's got van Noy,
- 33:50Speaker 1: But he also does it hoping that those guys you
- 33:52Speaker 1: mentioned beat him out. Maybe you know, I'm gonna bring
- 33:55Speaker 1: in a known commodity and he's gonna, you know, have
- 33:59Speaker 1: his place in the depth chart to start, but hey
- 34:02Speaker 1: beat him out an then beat him? Yeah, man, they
- 34:06Speaker 1: didn't do it. Maybe I just I think too that
- 34:09Speaker 1: we try to generally, we try to put it into
- 34:12Speaker 1: like are they rebuilding? Are they And I think that
- 34:14Speaker 1: it just it's a microscopic decision on a case by
- 34:17Speaker 1: case basis. Where Kyle van Noy was available, he knows
- 34:21Speaker 1: the system. Would he make us better? Yeah, potentially yes.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Could he be fading now and that's why Miami. Potentially Yes,
- 34:28Speaker 1: But we feel like he has a chance to make
- 34:30Speaker 1: this team better. And I like, I don't think they
- 34:32Speaker 1: look at everything through this lens of like, well, this
- 34:34Speaker 1: year is a rebuild year, and we're going to do everything.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I think it's case by case and trying to build.
- 34:39Speaker 1: You know, I know that he's big on, you know,
- 34:41Speaker 1: constructing a dynamic, having a balance of veterans and of
- 34:44Speaker 1: young guys. And I know that there's you know, probably
- 34:46Speaker 1: a whole novel sitting somewhere in this building of his
- 34:48Speaker 1: philosophy on how to balance a team out between what
- 34:51Speaker 1: you need and what you don't. I know it was, um,
- 34:54Speaker 1: you know, something that talked about a lot in Cleveland,
- 34:55Speaker 1: how they established what the culture and what the you know,
- 34:58Speaker 1: dynamic needs to be. So I know that he has
- 35:00Speaker 1: all these things in his mind, and you know, it's
- 35:02Speaker 1: just hard day three into free agency and everyone's like,
- 35:05Speaker 1: that's it. They're gonna win one game this year, and
- 35:07Speaker 1: you know, I don't think the roster is anywhere close
- 35:09Speaker 1: to what it's gonna look like in a week much
- 35:12Speaker 1: less six months from now? Yeah, all right, five five pats,
- 35:15Speaker 1: five hundred. Let's go to William and Philham. What's up William?
- 35:19Speaker 1: So that's how are you doing good? Hey? All right? Okay, Um,
- 35:24Speaker 1: I don't know what I want to say. All right,
- 35:27Speaker 1: thanks for calling? All right, but you had to call.
- 35:30Speaker 1: It's like checking in with mom. Really are you reading well? Williams?
- 35:37Speaker 1: Did you get enough sleep last night? Man? And I look,
- 35:40Speaker 1: I'm off work today and I've seen that move. I
- 35:42Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, are you kidding me? Um, Mike, look,
- 35:48Speaker 1: let me make sure how I say this right? Because
- 35:49Speaker 1: I was seeming so bad. I had to calm down.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Just I listened to Mike just, you know, put days
- 35:54Speaker 1: in perspective, bills for me as far as day. You know.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna give Bill allways his praises, but I will
- 36:00Speaker 1: always call him when he makes the mistakes. I'm sorry,
- 36:04Speaker 1: I can't hold his hand. I'm not going to you
- 36:06Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, like like, yes, he got a
- 36:08Speaker 1: six super bowsie he um, you know he's Bevan the
- 36:12Speaker 1: team he did think. I mean, he did a lot
- 36:14Speaker 1: of great things. I'm never gonna take that from Bill.
- 36:16Speaker 1: But as a GM. I'm like, you cannot tell me.
- 36:20Speaker 1: You're not gonna tell me that, Okay, Bill is like
- 36:24Speaker 1: he calls it right on the money. No, he don't.
- 36:26Speaker 1: And this is this is a prime example of this,
- 36:28Speaker 1: the jac Jackson, the Gilmore situation. Even Calvin Noy beat
- 36:32Speaker 1: out Hot Tower and Jamie and Jamie Cohn. How did
- 36:37Speaker 1: you cut him? But you don't want to cut Hot Tower?
- 36:40Speaker 1: Could you explain it to him? I mean, I'm not
- 36:44Speaker 1: trying to sit there and tell you that the guy
- 36:45Speaker 1: is perfect. I don't think anybody's perfect, So I mean,
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm with you. I think the draft misses have sucked.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I think that's why they've struggled the last few years.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I think that fed a lot into why break. I
- 36:55Speaker 1: don't I don't have a bar of perfection. I just
- 36:57Speaker 1: I think that he's got a plan, he knows what
- 36:59Speaker 1: he's doing. I'm not sitting here pulling my hair out
- 37:02Speaker 1: at this point in the offseason thinking that, oh, he
- 37:04Speaker 1: just wants to win three games a year for the
- 37:06Speaker 1: next fifteen years so that he can surpass Don Shula
- 37:10Speaker 1: and that's all he really cares about. Like, I just
- 37:11Speaker 1: I don't, I don't see it that way. I look,
- 37:13Speaker 1: I get the mistakes, I get the missus, I get
- 37:15Speaker 1: like the head scratching decisions. I'm right with you, believe me,
- 37:19Speaker 1: I to kill Harry didn't get it? I don't. But
- 37:22Speaker 1: at the same time, you know what, I don't want
- 37:24Speaker 1: this to be over yet. You guys all blame us
- 37:26Speaker 1: for running Brady out there? Way do you want to,
- 37:28Speaker 1: Bim Bellett? You know what, It's gonna be liked, you know,
- 37:30Speaker 1: like it's fine, like and I'm not getting mad that,
- 37:32Speaker 1: like he gets criticism, like, it's fine, he can handle it.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I just I just get mad when people try to
- 37:37Speaker 1: tell me that he doesn't want to win, that he
- 37:39Speaker 1: isn't like completely invested in this and trying to put
- 37:41Speaker 1: it together the best he can. And yeah, it's not perfect.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I get it. But well, Mike, wait a minute, so
- 37:46Speaker 1: I had the thing sound you got Look, I actually
- 37:48Speaker 1: speak lound and words when people looking at what he's doing,
- 37:52Speaker 1: does that tell you that he want to There's only
- 37:55Speaker 1: so much he can do right now with the financial
- 37:59Speaker 1: constraints that they're under. So yeah, so there's only so
- 38:04Speaker 1: much they can do. And you know what, for so
- 38:07Speaker 1: long there was certainty about this team. You had the
- 38:11Speaker 1: best quarterback of all time, and as long as you
- 38:14Speaker 1: had him and Bill together, you knew this team was
- 38:18Speaker 1: going to be competitive. When double digit games make it
- 38:21Speaker 1: to the AFC Championship, you could take that to the
- 38:23Speaker 1: bank for a long time. For the first time these
- 38:26Speaker 1: past I'm gonna call this now the third season counting
- 38:29Speaker 1: twenty and twenty one, twenty two is certainly the most
- 38:34Speaker 1: uh questionable of the three so far. There's a lot
- 38:37Speaker 1: of uncertainty around this team, and people are not used
- 38:41Speaker 1: to that, and so that's where I think a lot
- 38:43Speaker 1: of the fear is coming from. Because what do we
- 38:44Speaker 1: fear most as human beings the unknown. There's a lot
- 38:47Speaker 1: of unknown about this team. Writers, all, can I have
- 38:50Speaker 1: one one more question and then I'm out of the way. Yeah, yeah, Uh, Mike,
- 38:54Speaker 1: this once were you again? Let's go how you doing?
- 38:57Speaker 1: All right? He's calling all over and start this right
- 39:00Speaker 1: from the beginning. Um, the Nelson the agular thing you're saying,
- 39:04Speaker 1: let's keep on it. He signed this contract, whatever, Let's
- 39:07Speaker 1: see what he doing. His thing is? What second season? Whatever? Yeah? Um, dude,
- 39:12Speaker 1: are you what are you expecting from a tween nuals
- 39:15Speaker 1: receiver that you know you ain't gonna get. I don't
- 39:18Speaker 1: know what you think he's going to do. I mean, honestly,
- 39:20Speaker 1: you know, I mean, he's a very intelligent man and everything.
- 39:23Speaker 1: I see how he talking and knowing the press conferences
- 39:25Speaker 1: and stuff. But when he wanted to field, I'm looking,
- 39:28Speaker 1: I I just don't. I don't know. I just think that,
- 39:30Speaker 1: like I said, Bill made that mistake right there. I
- 39:33Speaker 1: think I don't know. But what what what? Let me
- 39:36Speaker 1: ask you this, what were you based on his career?
- 39:38Speaker 1: What were you expecting him to do last year? Nothing?
- 39:42Speaker 1: Not really honestly because of how he is. Nothing. I
- 39:44Speaker 1: just I just think Bill picked him on first. But
- 39:46Speaker 1: he did more than nothing. He contributed. He wasn't like
- 39:49Speaker 1: he did. It's not like he went through the entire
- 39:51Speaker 1: season and didn't make a play. Who we're talking about, Yeah,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I mean, you know, yeah, he wasn't nothing. I mean
- 39:57Speaker 1: he for his career. He had one spectacular year with
- 40:00Speaker 1: the Raiders, which I think opened people's eyes to the
- 40:03Speaker 1: potential for him. But he was your top paid receiver,
- 40:05Speaker 1: and he was your top receiver, sure right right. You
- 40:08Speaker 1: gave him a lot more money than probably he deserved,
- 40:11Speaker 1: but you had money to spend and you wanted to
- 40:13Speaker 1: make a move, and people were excited at the time
- 40:16Speaker 1: that you made moves, and he did what he normally
- 40:18Speaker 1: does in this league. So I think you have to
- 40:20Speaker 1: temper your expectations when you look at a guy's career.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Same thing with Jon Smith. He didn't do much more
- 40:25Speaker 1: than he has done throughout his career. Yeah, last year
- 40:28Speaker 1: it looked clunky, but thanks William. Yeah, I'm fine to
- 40:32Speaker 1: give them a chance, but you know, I'm not hitching
- 40:35Speaker 1: my wagon for the next five years to agglor like
- 40:38Speaker 1: I think you him should be a competent NFL receiver
- 40:41Speaker 1: this year. I hope, as you know Fred laid out,
- 40:43Speaker 1: that Mac can take advantage of him maybe a little
- 40:45Speaker 1: bit more. We also watched plenty of training camp practices
- 40:47Speaker 1: where those guys made some plays there too that you know,
- 40:50Speaker 1: not everybody saw. So you know, I just I think
- 40:53Speaker 1: they need a rookie to come in and work with Mac,
- 40:56Speaker 1: and I think those kind of guys will be the
- 40:58Speaker 1: long term answer. But in the time being, for twenty
- 41:00Speaker 1: twenty two, I'll run it back with the guys in
- 41:03Speaker 1: you and don't forget, and don't forget that they took
- 41:06Speaker 1: a receiver in the first round and it didn't work out,
- 41:08Speaker 1: and that sets you back, That sets back at that position.
- 41:11Speaker 1: It certainly didn't. You know, I've got you said that, friend,
- 41:13Speaker 1: because it's it's it's enlightening when you go back and
- 41:16Speaker 1: you look at and and everybody remembers my love affair
- 41:19Speaker 1: with Philip door Set. But there's a guy who's a
- 41:24Speaker 1: four three first round guy. And I think that you
- 41:27Speaker 1: look at the guys this year and there are a
- 41:28Speaker 1: lot of four three first round guys that everyone is like,
- 41:32Speaker 1: can't miss. You know, just because you're fast and just
- 41:35Speaker 1: because you're you know, highly rated, coming out doesn't guarantee
- 41:38Speaker 1: you of anything. So you know, I think they've got
- 41:41Speaker 1: to be smart. But I think you got to the
- 41:43Speaker 1: realistically look at the league and say you need an
- 41:46Speaker 1: offense that can chug and go and put points on
- 41:49Speaker 1: the board. And and they're still building, specially when other
- 41:52Speaker 1: teams in the AFC are built for speed and points
- 41:57Speaker 1: and you need to keep up with the likes of
- 42:00Speaker 1: the Buffalos, the Kansas Cities, the Los Angeles is the
- 42:04Speaker 1: Cincinnati's teams that can put points on the board almost
- 42:08Speaker 1: at will. You're not there, You're not even close to
- 42:10Speaker 1: be in there yet, yea. And one more thing, just
- 42:13Speaker 1: to William's call, because that he brought up. I just
- 42:16Speaker 1: think that Bill has a philosophy and you might not
- 42:18Speaker 1: like his philosophy of football and how he builds football
- 42:21Speaker 1: teams and what he believes you need to have for
- 42:23Speaker 1: football teams to win. It might not match up with
- 42:26Speaker 1: your you know, vision of the number one receiver and
- 42:28Speaker 1: the number one you know, but it's it has worked.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And I know to a degree of yeah, Brady, Brady Brady,
- 42:34Speaker 1: but he guys still knows what he's doing. And I
- 42:36Speaker 1: think the thing for me with Bill Belichick is when
- 42:38Speaker 1: you hear players talk about him, don't listen to the
- 42:41Speaker 1: media talk about what Bill Belichick does or doesn't know.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Listen to the players and listen to how much football
- 42:46Speaker 1: that he knows when they go in there and they
- 42:47Speaker 1: listen to him, Like that's that's the special stuff that
- 42:50Speaker 1: happens behind the scenes. And I feel like everybody wants
- 42:52Speaker 1: who it's the greatest coach of all time. But let
- 42:54Speaker 1: me list off all the reasons why I hate him
- 42:56Speaker 1: and want him to be gone, Like it's just it
- 42:58Speaker 1: doesn't make sense to me. It doesn't resign itself with
- 43:01Speaker 1: how the players actually feel about him, which I think
- 43:03Speaker 1: they all respect him, and you know, know that he
- 43:06Speaker 1: knows what's going on with the game and how to
- 43:07Speaker 1: build a football team. Yeah, let's go to Todd in Greenville,
- 43:10Speaker 1: North Carolina. What's up, Todd. Hey, I'm not sure if
- 43:15Speaker 1: Bill has decided whether he's fully given up on, you know,
- 43:19Speaker 1: having a good team or not. Because paying nine million
- 43:22Speaker 1: for d Mac, You've got a gotta wonder a little bit.
- 43:26Speaker 1: I would love, you know, keep some veterans, like you said, Fred,
- 43:29Speaker 1: you need veterans for the leadership and to kind of
- 43:32Speaker 1: build you know, the patriot ideology. But I you know,
- 43:35Speaker 1: it makes me wonder because that's a lot to play
- 43:37Speaker 1: for something like that, and to keep Slater as well.
- 43:40Speaker 1: When you get some young guys that can replace him,
- 43:42Speaker 1: you need new leadership eventually, So maybe it's time to
- 43:45Speaker 1: start maybe moving a little bit more. I kind of
- 43:48Speaker 1: agree with crazy Paul. Well, let's put it this way, Okay,
- 43:51Speaker 1: So again we're talking about three players, Matthew Slater, mccordy
- 43:56Speaker 1: and James White. You know, yeah, probably and that's a
- 43:59Speaker 1: one year deal from Acquardy, right, He's probably gonna be
- 44:02Speaker 1: gone next year. Slide is probably gonna be gone next year,
- 44:05Speaker 1: you know, So why do you care? Why do you so?
- 44:12Speaker 1: If you agree with Paul, then the cap is crap,
- 44:14Speaker 1: so it doesn't matter how much they paid him, and
- 44:17Speaker 1: you could have maybe kept somebody else. Gunner I would
- 44:20Speaker 1: have liked to keep just for a sentimental reason. I
- 44:22Speaker 1: like him. But you know, I can understand why wouldn't
- 44:25Speaker 1: they keep Gunner if the cap is crap? What? They
- 44:28Speaker 1: could have kept Gunner and they decided not to. They
- 44:30Speaker 1: could have kept Shaq Mason, they decided not to. What. Yeah,
- 44:34Speaker 1: But my biggest problem right now is the situation is
- 44:37Speaker 1: we've always had trouble getting two things. Receivers and uh,
- 44:42Speaker 1: you know, high high draft corners. You know, the guys
- 44:47Speaker 1: that we get that are not drafted are amazing. But
- 44:51Speaker 1: when we actually try to draft a corner or we
- 44:52Speaker 1: try to draft the receiver, it never works out. And
- 44:55Speaker 1: that's two of the biggest needs we have right now.
- 44:58Speaker 1: It makes me a little confirt ye where I'm at?
- 45:01Speaker 1: Ye Okay, can't stop doing it though, Yeah, keep trying.
- 45:07Speaker 1: I see, I don't I agree with him. They've had
- 45:10Speaker 1: trouble drafting high, high ranking corners and receivers. But to me,
- 45:15Speaker 1: keeping Devin mccordy' is a separate issue. I don't think
- 45:18Speaker 1: they're related. I don't think that by getting mccordy it
- 45:22Speaker 1: prohibits you from drafting receiver. Well, you know, like that
- 45:26Speaker 1: ruined their whole offseason was ruined because they paid Devin
- 45:29Speaker 1: mccordy nine million dollars. Like, yeah, I don't get it.
- 45:33Speaker 1: I don't. I don't get it. I think you need
- 45:35Speaker 1: guys like that on the roster for leadership, and right
- 45:38Speaker 1: now they have three and and that's it. And so yeah,
- 45:41Speaker 1: and David would I would throw David Andrews into that too,
- 45:45Speaker 1: you know, as one of the olds. That's a leader,
- 45:46Speaker 1: you know, a veteran leader. Absolutely, you know. But it's
- 45:49Speaker 1: like I said, I think there's always a balance to it.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And I don't know, everyone gets so fired u about
- 45:54Speaker 1: Devin mccordy, like he's a free safety plays on the
- 45:56Speaker 1: back end. He gets everybody on the same page, Like
- 45:58Speaker 1: it's not like you need him to win in trench
- 46:00Speaker 1: battles every week and he just doesn't have it anymore.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Like I mean, I know Paul wasn't impressed with him
- 46:05Speaker 1: last year. I didn't really notice all that much different
- 46:07Speaker 1: about the deep passing game, Like it didn't seem like
- 46:10Speaker 1: that was that was that much of an issue. Um,
- 46:13Speaker 1: but I don't know people are latched onto this right
- 46:16Speaker 1: now when it's just become their only resigning old guys
- 46:18Speaker 1: and like it's the three guys, right, three guys. It's
- 46:21Speaker 1: three guys and guys who have played a lot of
- 46:23Speaker 1: a lot of football for you. I would think that,
- 46:26Speaker 1: you know, you'd want that kind of continuation of the culture.
- 46:29Speaker 1: And that's what Matthew talked about. But he also acknowledged
- 46:31Speaker 1: I'm not just here to be a rab rock guy.
- 46:33Speaker 1: They need me to produce on the field, and he
- 46:35Speaker 1: understands that. But I mean, I think another you know,
- 46:37Speaker 1: they asked Slater Tuesday about you know what happened, uh
- 46:40Speaker 1: with what went wrong last year, and he spoke specifically
- 46:42Speaker 1: to the special teams and um, you know, mentioned mentioned penalties,
- 46:46Speaker 1: uh you know, mentioned the pun pump block team, which
- 46:49Speaker 1: we know it was an issue as well. But I
- 46:50Speaker 1: just thought it was interesting looking at, you know, the
- 46:52Speaker 1: special team snaps. I mean, it looks like they're going
- 46:55Speaker 1: to get rid of five of their their top special
- 46:57Speaker 1: team performance this year. Brandon King Brandon, Bolden, Gunner, Yakub
- 47:01Speaker 1: and Chase one of it. I mean, those are five
- 47:02Speaker 1: of your ten top ten Special teams guys, so you
- 47:05Speaker 1: know there is some turnover there, and those guys aren't
- 47:07Speaker 1: exactly Spring chickens. So they did let some old guys
- 47:10Speaker 1: go with that department, and I think that you know
- 47:13Speaker 1: that's where you're going to see some change and some turnover. Yep. Uh,
- 47:17Speaker 1: let's turn it over to Brian in Indiana. What's up, Brian?
- 47:21Speaker 1: Bo blah? Boy, where's Paul when we need you? Oh?
- 47:26Speaker 1: Here we go, Yeah, here we go, you know. And
- 47:29Speaker 1: of course, boy, hey Fred, I'm gonna get you this. Yeah,
- 47:34Speaker 1: hiring dudes, you dig dudes. He got he bringing it
- 47:38Speaker 1: out and me boy just got through jumping down throw
- 47:45Speaker 1: for saying nine million for McCarthy. What do you care?
- 47:51Speaker 1: Is it? Joe money? Okay, keep that same energy. I
- 47:54Speaker 1: gonna ever want to hear you criticize a contract again,
- 47:57Speaker 1: because I've heard you do it. We all do it. Yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: And then uh, y'all got to keep my own duce
- 48:05Speaker 1: because he's say it's all about the Lindry. But I
- 48:08Speaker 1: don't know when Bill ain't the coach no more? He
- 48:10Speaker 1: might switch teams. Would you be happy about you'd be
- 48:14Speaker 1: happy to have another team? Get him? I say, when
- 48:17Speaker 1: Bill ain't the coaching team? Yeah no, I just I
- 48:21Speaker 1: appreciate good coaching and I understand what that means, and
- 48:25Speaker 1: I like watching it, and I'm in no hurry to
- 48:28Speaker 1: jump off. I like, yeah, let him see. How are
- 48:29Speaker 1: you forever New England? Right for hashtag? Now I got
- 48:33Speaker 1: I got one though, And this is a Boston another
- 48:36Speaker 1: Boston media trigger. And of course it came out of
- 48:39Speaker 1: Duce's mouth. You mentioned some time ago, uh, you don't
- 48:45Speaker 1: want to be one of these stupid teams that take chances?
- 48:49Speaker 1: Can you uh dalve into that and tell me who
- 48:53Speaker 1: these stupid teams are and the chances they took, because
- 48:56Speaker 1: I wish Paul was here to back me up. You
- 48:59Speaker 1: you criticized La Fall, the moves they made, you mocked them,
- 49:04Speaker 1: dream team, blah blah blah. They went on to win
- 49:07Speaker 1: the Super Bowl. So that's one case. Philly, Philly was
- 49:13Speaker 1: one that me some of the stupid teams to take
- 49:15Speaker 1: these chances you're talking about that you don't want us
- 49:18Speaker 1: to take. Yeah, sure, they call that the teams that
- 49:20Speaker 1: call in and we need to pay Julio Jones fourteen
- 49:22Speaker 1: million and give up a second round pick for him,
- 49:24Speaker 1: you know, at age thirty three, those you know, those
- 49:27Speaker 1: kind of moves that that that seems the media things
- 49:29Speaker 1: they know how to run. Really, people people emailing you
- 49:34Speaker 1: saying that, oh yeah, do you listen to the shows.
- 49:37Speaker 1: Nobody won't I wanted Julio Jones, Yeah, five years ago
- 49:41Speaker 1: when I knew it wouldn't happen, right me too. Well,
- 49:43Speaker 1: all right, just take any old receiver who used to
- 49:46Speaker 1: be good, and that's what you got. Seriously, now, anybody's
- 49:51Speaker 1: asking for all receivers that we were crying about them
- 49:54Speaker 1: resigning old vets. So the whole receivership is said. Maybe
- 50:00Speaker 1: Allen Robinson, and he's not as young as people think
- 50:03Speaker 1: he is. He'd been in the league quite a while,
- 50:05Speaker 1: but he's gotten more left in the tank at this
- 50:07Speaker 1: point in his career than Julio Jones. I haven't heard
- 50:12Speaker 1: anybody really asking for all receivers. Not means at this
- 50:16Speaker 1: point Julio Jones is done. Yeah, I agree, I agree,
- 50:21Speaker 1: but hey, this is the show. We call people calling
- 50:23Speaker 1: all the time talking about old receivers, receivers that they
- 50:27Speaker 1: missed on, like that for the majority of people who
- 50:30Speaker 1: just general fans, they think that's the way that that
- 50:32Speaker 1: you just need a number one receiver. If you have that,
- 50:35Speaker 1: you're going to be good to go. So you know,
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'm saying, I think what you're taking from what I
- 50:40Speaker 1: said earlier of just the teams that do it traditionally,
- 50:43Speaker 1: the teams that do what you want, like you know,
- 50:45Speaker 1: maybe it'll make you happy. I don't know a lot
- 50:47Speaker 1: of people called what the Bills did yesterday with von
- 50:50Speaker 1: Miller dumb, like that was a dumb move because of
- 50:53Speaker 1: the amount of money. Yeah, because the amount of money
- 50:55Speaker 1: that they have, they wouldn't call it dumb. If Bill
- 50:58Speaker 1: signed him. And I'm gonna tell you why Bill could
- 51:01Speaker 1: have signed him, took that same exact contract. What people
- 51:04Speaker 1: would say would his how New England would justify it?
- 51:09Speaker 1: Oh well, one hundred and twenty million, don't worry about that,
- 51:13Speaker 1: look at the look at the guaranteed money, and we
- 51:16Speaker 1: would kick the can down the road. He ain't gonna
- 51:18Speaker 1: see all six years in that one twenty. If we
- 51:20Speaker 1: could get two three years out of him, that's good.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Then that's exactly what people fred. That's what you would say,
- 51:27Speaker 1: and that's what the Bills are problem. I think it's
- 51:28Speaker 1: a good move. I'm all for it. I'm all for
- 51:30Speaker 1: that move for the Bills where the Bills are right now.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Ye you got Josh Allen. You've got lightning in a bottle,
- 51:35Speaker 1: right and it's a small window you now have. Get
- 51:37Speaker 1: me wrong, A guy that didn't think, God, I didn't
- 51:40Speaker 1: think we would sign Vin Miller. Damn sure didn't want
- 51:44Speaker 1: him in Buffalo. But I mean, we weren't gonna sign
- 51:48Speaker 1: him to block that. But my thing is just and
- 51:52Speaker 1: I y'all think I'll rag on Bill, and I try
- 51:56Speaker 1: not to say nothing because I don't like I don't
- 51:59Speaker 1: you know me and do disagree all the time. But
- 52:01Speaker 1: I like ducing on, like hurting his feelings. I love it.
- 52:06Speaker 1: But I mean, I don't know, Yeah, I just I mean, look,
- 52:11Speaker 1: I think this is a different, different football team for
- 52:13Speaker 1: the Patriots where they are right now. And I don't
- 52:15Speaker 1: think that they're the old Patriots. And I think that
- 52:17Speaker 1: they need to do a lot of work and they
- 52:19Speaker 1: need to hit on a lot of draft picks to
- 52:21Speaker 1: get where they are. We can disagree about how to
- 52:24Speaker 1: do it. I'm just fine to sit back and watch
- 52:26Speaker 1: Bill Belichick do it and drive people nuts and see
- 52:29Speaker 1: what he does that and that's and I'll let him
- 52:31Speaker 1: do it until he wants to go, and then I'll
- 52:33Speaker 1: be sad. Traditionally, like the you know, and what Brian
- 52:38Speaker 1: said about the Rams, that worked out. They went for it.
- 52:40Speaker 1: They worked out what the Tampa Bay did two years ago.
- 52:44Speaker 1: You know, they went for it. It worked out right.
- 52:46Speaker 1: But but tradition, dud dudes kind of did he mocked him.
- 52:50Speaker 1: He didn't say I was stupid. I don't know. I
- 52:51Speaker 1: don't think I mocked him. That's why I said, I
- 52:55Speaker 1: wish Paul y'all don't realize something about y'all being on
- 52:59Speaker 1: the regular. We hear all the stuff y'all mother under
- 53:02Speaker 1: your breath. Yeah, because there was this was at the time.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Oh von Miller. We got to now our dream team. Man,
- 53:09Speaker 1: I got work out because, in my opinion, Vin Miller
- 53:12Speaker 1: won them that Super Bowl the last minute of the
- 53:15Speaker 1: last quarter of game. Yeah. Yeah. And you know the
- 53:18Speaker 1: Patriots have done that in the past, bringing in Derel
- 53:20Speaker 1: Rievers and you know, for one year and it worked
- 53:23Speaker 1: out and it worked out. Yeah, We've we've tried that
- 53:25Speaker 1: in the past. James Harrison, James Harrison. Yeah, the hope
- 53:29Speaker 1: was that he could have did with Vin and that
- 53:32Speaker 1: what Super Bowl did he play against the Eagles? Yeah,
- 53:37Speaker 1: that it plays Vin Miller. May is what we need
- 53:40Speaker 1: to James Harrison to do right now. And it didn't
- 53:43Speaker 1: work out. Though it didn't work out, but you know
- 53:45Speaker 1: the play we need. There's there's plenty of there's plenty
- 53:48Speaker 1: of examples both ways. And there's plenty of examples when teams,
- 53:51Speaker 1: you know, pay that high pricing and it doesn't work out,
- 53:54Speaker 1: you know, and it's just you know, so it goes
- 53:57Speaker 1: both ways. And the Rams are in streaming. That's extreme.
- 54:00Speaker 1: I mean, nobody, nobody's done that. And I mean I
- 54:03Speaker 1: think on this, I know, I was like, oh, I
- 54:05Speaker 1: think that's a good move bringing in Matthew Stafford. I
- 54:07Speaker 1: thought that was a great move for them. Oh who
- 54:09Speaker 1: didn't you know that was a good move. Yeah. I mean,
- 54:12Speaker 1: I I'll let that stuff go. But I mean, I
- 54:15Speaker 1: think there's more than one way the skin of ks
- 54:17Speaker 1: Brian and I don't you know, I don't think the
- 54:19Speaker 1: Patriots way is the only way. I don't think the
- 54:20Speaker 1: Rams way is the only way. Of course, not teams,
- 54:23Speaker 1: different teams win the Super Bowl every year. It's not
- 54:26Speaker 1: it's not like a chemistry project. It is, but it's
- 54:30Speaker 1: human chemistry, you know. And so like you can bring
- 54:33Speaker 1: in all the great players you want, if it just
- 54:35Speaker 1: doesn't work right on the field, it's just not gonna
- 54:38Speaker 1: work because they're human beings. You can't you can't automatically
- 54:41Speaker 1: say it's gonna work out. There's so many you know,
- 54:45Speaker 1: different things. And that's what Robert Kraft said when he
- 54:47Speaker 1: first bought the Patriots, you know, and what he said
- 54:50Speaker 1: a lot of new owners to the NFL learn. You know,
- 54:53Speaker 1: you're in your old business where you can control your
- 54:56Speaker 1: budget and your you know, your workflow and all this stuff,
- 55:00Speaker 1: and your supply chain and and you know, in football,
- 55:03Speaker 1: you know your supply chain is fifty three guys that
- 55:06Speaker 1: all have different personalities, and you have no idea how
- 55:09Speaker 1: each year is gonna work out. You don't know how
- 55:11Speaker 1: these draft picks are gonna work out. That's what makes
- 55:13Speaker 1: it more difficult than normal business that these owners come from,
- 55:18Speaker 1: you know. So but it's it's good stuff. And yeah,
- 55:22Speaker 1: you do defend your own team's moves more than other teams.
- 55:25Speaker 1: You want your other other teams to fail it. You
- 55:27Speaker 1: wanted to believe that your team has a special sauce
- 55:30Speaker 1: and that it didn't quite work out somewhere else that
- 55:31Speaker 1: will work out here. And the way those teams fail
- 55:33Speaker 1: is they make bad decisions and it doesn't work out,
- 55:35Speaker 1: or they make good decisions and it still doesn't work out.
- 55:37Speaker 1: It's a risk. John's in LA. What's up, John? How
- 55:40Speaker 1: you doing good? How are you guys doing great? Hey? John? So,
- 55:49Speaker 1: I mean this is sort of a snarky Patriots fan
- 55:51Speaker 1: thing to say, but I mean, I think the Patriots
- 55:53Speaker 1: have shown that there's just because the Rams one a
- 55:57Speaker 1: super Bowl by doing it that way, that's great. There
- 55:59Speaker 1: are many different ways it's gonnacatch. But I wouldn't put
- 56:01Speaker 1: down the way the Patriots have done it for twenty years.
- 56:05Speaker 1: What I would put down is that, like remember back
- 56:09Speaker 1: in the days, like when we were all posting on
- 56:11Speaker 1: pap fans dot com. It was the early days of
- 56:14Speaker 1: the Patriots dynasty, and and the Patriots did drafting differently
- 56:20Speaker 1: from the other teams that use those sort of services,
- 56:23Speaker 1: and we sort of I felt like we did better
- 56:26Speaker 1: that way. My feeling is over the last twenty years,
- 56:29Speaker 1: the sort of draft industrial complex has gotten better. There's
- 56:34Speaker 1: all of these draft sites. There's all these like professional scouts,
- 56:38Speaker 1: and some of them are crappy, but some of them
- 56:40Speaker 1: are good. And I feel like these days, going with
- 56:45Speaker 1: what we read online makes more sense than it used
- 56:49Speaker 1: to back in the day before scouting became more of
- 56:52Speaker 1: a commodity. And so I feel like last year when
- 56:57Speaker 1: the team sort of made picks that sort of went
- 57:00Speaker 1: with the conventional wisdom and what we were seeing online,
- 57:05Speaker 1: it was a good draft. Do you think that the
- 57:07Speaker 1: change in like the the increasing widespread expertise is too strong,
- 57:15Speaker 1: But you know, like that becomes something that there's more
- 57:18Speaker 1: people involved with who are smarter at it than maybe
- 57:21Speaker 1: back in the day, in the early days. I yeah,
- 57:25Speaker 1: now when we read something online, it's like no, no, no,
- 57:27Speaker 1: that's actually good research them. There's more people going at
- 57:31Speaker 1: it because the products has gotten better. Yeah, no, I agree,
- 57:35Speaker 1: the science of scouting has gotten better. Um, it's not
- 57:39Speaker 1: just an old guy with a stopwatch anymore. You know.
- 57:42Speaker 1: The dissemination of information, the exchange of information technologies, you
- 57:48Speaker 1: know us have all helped scouts evalue way players more accurately.
- 57:53Speaker 1: You know, I just wonder where the line is still
- 57:56Speaker 1: because I still think that there's a firm line between acts,
- 58:00Speaker 1: NFL teams and draft services, draft websites, those you know,
- 58:04Speaker 1: like those kind of things. I don't know how much
- 58:06Speaker 1: crossover there is, Like I don't think the Patriots are
- 58:08Speaker 1: like consulting Pro Football Focus for their scouting needs. Like
- 58:12Speaker 1: maybe a little bit, but you know, I still wonder
- 58:15Speaker 1: what the line is like. And I agree, like the
- 58:17Speaker 1: proliferation of everyone's a draft expert and there's a thousand
- 58:20Speaker 1: mock drafts now where like you used to have to
- 58:22Speaker 1: wait for like a select three to come out. Yeah,
- 58:25Speaker 1: you know, so it's I mean, it's an interesting point.
- 58:27Speaker 1: I mean I also see John like do we all
- 58:29Speaker 1: think we're all experts now? And that's why it's easier
- 58:32Speaker 1: to second guess because we think we have the information
- 58:35Speaker 1: when I just wonder how how much reality there is?
- 58:37Speaker 1: What is what is a you know? Like I mean
- 58:40Speaker 1: and I go to all these websites like, uh, you know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: Draft Network and you know, PFF, all those ones, But
- 58:46Speaker 1: I just wonder how similar are those what the real
- 58:49Speaker 1: guys actually have, Like is there is are there really
- 58:52Speaker 1: is that? Really? Are they really even in the same vicinity? Well,
- 58:54Speaker 1: don't look when I talk about information I'm not talking
- 58:57Speaker 1: about our lads and Pete. I'm talking about how they
- 59:01Speaker 1: are able to get like you know, there's um they
- 59:05Speaker 1: call it exos, yeah, you know, but there's way the
- 59:08Speaker 1: tape is eating more readily available on players. The databases
- 59:12Speaker 1: are more sophisticated. And sure I'm talking about that type
- 59:15Speaker 1: of thing, right, you know, but they are they all.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Is it possible as scouts are talking more to these
- 59:20Speaker 1: people or that, or the former scouts are now of
- 59:23Speaker 1: those websites or something so that there's actually more more
- 59:26Speaker 1: sophistication than there used to be. Well, I think it's certainly, certainly, John,
- 59:33Speaker 1: Like when we were when we were growing up, there
- 59:35Speaker 1: was like mel Kiper was the one and only draft
- 59:38Speaker 1: person on earth who spent like three hundred and sixty
- 59:41Speaker 1: five days of the year studying the draft. Some who
- 59:43Speaker 1: wasn't part of an NFL organization. He was the He
- 59:47Speaker 1: had his own you know, cottage industry doing that. And
- 59:50Speaker 1: then people as the draft started becoming more popular, more
- 59:53Speaker 1: people started doing it. And some of these you know,
- 59:56Speaker 1: guys like Dan Jeremiah, who I think was a scouting
- 59:58Speaker 1: role at one point, Mike Mayock who played like guys
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: who played and think they can do it well, started
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: doing it, and some of them, Uh, what's his name
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: from ESPN? No, Uh, he did Monday Night Football. Why
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: am I not being able to think of his name?
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Just this past year? What's his name? It was up
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: for the GM job. Yeah, I can't think of his
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: name off the top of my head. But like you know,
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: he worked in in scouting, in personnel, went to broadcasting,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: maybe was thinking about going back into it, like some
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: of these guys have that experience. But I don't think
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: you can call any of these people draft experts because
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: nobody is an expert at drafting. Not even the people
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: who do it for a living are experts, because if
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: they were, they'd be paying millions of dollars for their
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: services every year. The draft is such an inexact thing,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: even for the people whose job it is to do
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: it for an NFL team never get it right, perfectly right.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: You hit some years, you don't other years. You hit
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: with one guy in one round, you don't in another.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: It's such an inexact thing that it's it's almost impossible
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: to call anybody a draft expert. Yeah. Another thing I've
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: noticed over the same period of time is that back
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: in the day, like the first half of the dynasty,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: it seems like Belichick was so in the front office,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: was so painstaking about like they would get such value
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: in the trade. I'm not every trade wasn't perfect, but
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: so often it seems like they worked their asses off
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: to get an unbelievable value in draft pick compensation for
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: a player or vice versa. And it does seem over
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the last ten years. And I really think of Jimmy
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: G thing, but I also think of like, certainly the
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Mason thing obviously, is you know, in the last few days,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: there's this attitude that feels less like, less effort, like
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: just give me this, you know. I mean, well, I
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: think not imagine. I think part of that John is
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the Patriot. Back in the earlier days of the dynasty,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: the Patriots were were trading from a position of strength,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: and now they're not. I think other teams have more
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: of the advantage, you know, and can say, well, huh,
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: you don't want to trade for that. But I feel like,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: but you think what Jimmy G we were still winning
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: Super Bowl. There seemed to be just like whatever, just
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: give me a this, And it didn't feel like he
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: used to the end I mean, I think we overpay
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: now in ways that we never used to, and we
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: under accept payment now like we didn't use to. It
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: could be a lot of the rest of the league
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: catching up to the Patriots. You know, you know, a
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: lot of this is, you know, investment in your scouting department.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: And not all believe it or not, not all teams
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: did that and now they are you know, now even
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Cincinnati Bengals infest in their scouting department. I'm glad John
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: brought up the Jimmy G thing because looking back on
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: it now, Jimmy G for a second rounder. Thanks John,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: you might have gotten the better of that deal. Noah,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: it's about right. It seems about right, Yeah, it kind
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: of it kind of right comes out in the wash.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: All right. Um, We're gonna take a little break, eat
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: a little lunch, to do a little Dad love tonight,

- 1:12:19Speaker 1: now great moments in history. I like just watching like
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: a good game, like the Chiefs, Chiefs Bengals. Don't you
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: like to have something vested? No, it doesn't have to,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: but I'd rather have to do rather have something. Tell
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: you I was rooting from the homes and borrow to
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: score every possession together. Yeah, but yes, what I'd rather
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: like been rooting against, you know, like for a team
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: and against another team. Yeah, because that's how you watch
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: games normally. Yeah, but I don't have to have that,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: like Patriots fans need to find that I watch. I'm
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna give you the nodding, now, you know,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: I like the fat Okay, they'll root against the Rams
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: because they spend too much money and that's not how
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: you do it. So I'll guarantee you when if they
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: lose the Super Bowl, you'll get the Mark Daniels or
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: the world will say, see, that's why you can't win
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: that way. He'll be all over your Twitter. I'm gonna
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: tee it up and say, well, let's see how many
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: they can win without any first round picks for the
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: next two seasons. That'll be mine. It is. It doesn't
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: matter that, it doesn't matter. For five years in a row,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: they've been in the playoffs and one games in the
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: playoffs and window close. It's the way they've done It
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: is wrong, good Mike, and that's the way Patriots fans
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: will take. So Fred says he likes the vitriol. Fine,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: you're allowed to like the vitriol. The rest of us
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: who don't like the vitriol should be allowed not to
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: like the vitriol. We just want to watch a good game.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: I know whoever wins wins that wouldn't care less. That's
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: a week. It doesn't a week, sauce. I don't necessarily
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: have a problem with you, Okay, So if you don't
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: agree with Fred, I can just see you know with
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: his tweet jacket and his Scotch just you know, oh
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: splendid games, Oh boys, splendid. That's another great moment from
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: all right. Welcome back to Patriots on filtered A five
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: five Pats five hundred is the ace ticket, hut line
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. Deuce,
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: you're smiling. Well, I just thought that was topical based
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: on what they accused me of U of saying that
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: they were gonna they weren't gonna win I and that's
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: what I still have the same point. We'll see how
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: they how they are able to sustain me. I remember
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: the year, you know, the all in year. Um they
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: got Brandon Cooks and you know, they traded for him,
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: and you know, people were saying, oh, the Patriots are
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: all in, all in, like you know, if they don't
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: do that, they're not all in, you know, it's they're
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: all kind, they're always I think I think the Patriots,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: much like every other team, look at opportunity and take
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: advantage of it when they see it. It's just what's
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: your definition of opportunity, you know, And some teams are
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: different than others, you know. And I think the Patriots
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: at least, you know, through the dynasty, have had a
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: different you know, opinion of what opportunity is and what
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: value is in terms of a player. Now, I think
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: they have to change a little bit because they don't
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: have Tom Brady. Yeah, yeah, And I mean I think
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: it starts in as eighty percent the draft. He's just
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: you need to hit on these draft picks otherwise. I mean,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: it's just you talk about the the lack of guys
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: on the roster that you like or that you even
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: want to extend right now, and that's a direct result
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: of the miss drafts that that they had, and you
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: just you need to rebuild that core. And you know,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: no matter what they do in the next couple of weeks,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: I'm sure they'll do some stuff to fill things out,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: but I don't think that's going to really matter two
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: three years down the road. It's gonna matter how the
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: picks go in April and how you know, did did
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: you get anybody to emerge from these draft picks that
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: haven't yet emerged? And you know, is there anything there
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: that that you haven't quite una tapped yet. That's that's
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: the question. Let's get back to the ace to get
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: hot line. Steve's in South Carolina. Hey Steve, Steve. Ah,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: he hung on for half an hour and then he's
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: just gone. We'll go to Patty and agawam, what's up Patty?
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Faith slant half happy day buying Saint Patty. And Eric
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: has his green crew neck. That's my favorite color. Look
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: a little weather it is green sweater ya get over
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: to Charles Tittom and get one. I don't know who
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: that is. I'll be nice and drunken green later. But um,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: I wanted to talk a little bit a draft and
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: I wanted to throw a name out. This is kind
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: of like what I've been doing, I know over the
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: past couple of weeks. But throw a name out at
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: you guys for I think if they end up double
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: dipping at cornerback and if they pick a guy like
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: maybe in the like a late day two early day
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: three Alabama guy names Josh job yep, and he's uh,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: he's a little bit raw and he can play special teams.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: And I just wanted to know with any of you
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: guys had a chance to take a look at him,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: induce I love you, buddy. I don't know. No one
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: needs to make everyone thinks I'm so sensitive, Like I
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: don't I love this stuff, Like he can yell at me.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: You're gonna have nightmares tonight, you know you are. It's
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: so fun. I know that people are checking in on
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: me and social media like I'm in a ball crying
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: right now. But now I appreciate I appreciate it. It's
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: all right, this is what this is what free agency's
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: all about. Right, he can't get mad and yelled at
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: each other. I mean, we've gone through a lot of
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: off seasons where it starts out and Patriots fans are like,
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: what are they doing? More often most seasons? Yeah, most
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: more often than not. Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, Patty,
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: thanks for the call. Oh yes, he professed his love
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: for me and then he didn't ask question, was that
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: just last part? I've seen a little bit of of job. Yeah,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Alabama guy, and I think he's kind of fits. I
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: think it's a good uh. He's a good kind of
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: guy that they need for sure. Double dip but wide
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: receiver writing Trent McDuffie from Washington probably my favorite. But
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I think those guys later though. No, he's a he'd
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: be a first round up there. There's a lot of
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: guys holding breath about. I mean, you saw Bill and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Matt Patricia were at at Georgia yesterday and I was
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: I was saying upstairs with like, it's funny to think that,
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: like he could literally grab three of these Georgia guys
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: and remake the defen Like just call that the draft.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: Just grab three of them. Yeah, and you're probably like
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: your core, your next defense, right. And I don't want
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: to turn this into a draft show, but question, do
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: you think there will be a quarterback? Take it in
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: the first round? This? Yeah? Oh, they'll be like three
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: of them real right now. I mean, if you if
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: you believe any of the mock drafts and take all
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: those with as many greens as salt as you like.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: But I'm seeing sometimes it's even four quarterbacks going in
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: the first round. It's it seems ridiculous. Well that would
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: be great because that's good for the Patriots. Well sure,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: but I don't know if these teams are just gonna
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: reach for some of these guys. You don't see I
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: heard it. It's not a very good draft a quarters,
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I know, but are teams that there's always teams that
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: need quarterbacks and they always overreach. I think someone will
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: take a shot on Malik Willis. M I saw him
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: going sixth overall or something, probably a little high. But
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: him and him and Kenny two gloves pick it um,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: small hands and all. But I think those two guys
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: would probably go someone will take a take a shot
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: on him. But a flyer A flyer um because if
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: you don't get them, then you know you gotta you
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: gotta take a swing. I guess it's but I wouldn't.
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't draft any of those guys before twenty at best.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: But I think they'll go in the team. I think
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: there are teams that are gonna reach yeah see I
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: and that'll that You're right, it'll help New England because
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: a better player will drop down. I mean I think
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Willis is a you know, got a lot of physical talent.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: And I mean anybody saw the video. There's video of
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: him in Indie, right outside of Saint Elmo stopping and
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: like unloading a bag for a homeless guy and giving
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: him a bunch of stuff, which was, you know, cool
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: to see. So who is this Malik Willis? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: because it was funny. It was like right in front
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: of Saint Elmos. It's like such oh, there's that old sign.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: But yeah, so that was cool to see. I mean,
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I think he's just one of those guys that intangibles
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: and you know, has it, has it, has it? Definitely
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: a strong arm too. Rashad's in Baltimore. What's up? Rashad? Hey,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: what's up? What's up? I had two things, I guess. First, First,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: on the staff, the offensive line. Um, I'm thinking, I'm
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: thinking it's gonna be it's gonna be a big issue
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: Niven this year. It's going forward, because what are you
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: gonna do with when Like, I don't think they're gonna
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: pick up his fifty year option. I don't think, yeah,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: this is the fifth Yeah, this last year, they last
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: spring they did, but like even like next year, and like,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna sign him and keep them.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: So that just means we're gonna have another opening on
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: the offensive line. Wow, let's get through this year first,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Let's see what they do this year. Yeah, but I'm
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: worried about twenty twenty three yet, I think left tackles
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: a spot to watch. That's why Bernard Reisman, Yeah, forgive
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: my Austrian um, but I think the left tackle absolutely,
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: I mean that's not something that's going to be sexy
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: and exciting. But like you said, wins up, you don't
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: know who's the right tackles. We're hearing that somebody Matt
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Morrel is not back there yet cratching record right, And
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I guess I can. I think I think that we
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: I think that we have to we have to be
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: able to uh like it has to be some type
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: of accountability, like with the Patriots, the front office build,
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: like even Robert Craft, like it has to be some
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: type of accountability. And I know, I know that, you know,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: they're still like, you know, when when when Now we're
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: trying to win, you know, we're trying to compete. But
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: it's I mean, like maybe it's like maybe you like
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: you don't like you don't have to try some people championship.
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: Just try to just build your young core, builds around
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: your quarterback and then you can compete the yeah and that.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: But it's like the way they're going about it now,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: like you're not we're not we're not going to get there,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: We're not can't get nowhere. So it's like, I don't know,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: do you think if they signed like three or four
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: guys in the next week that you're that your opinion
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: might change. It depends. It depends who the players all
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: and maybe the aide stuff like that, because I don't
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: want like, I don't want to old people. I want
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: im an like that, but I want to I want
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: a nice young athletic team. I mean, it's good, it's
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: good to have some old bat like, it's good to
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: have some some back three of them the people around.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: But like it's just it's just the way the league is.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: The league is changing, and I'm with you. I'm with
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: your shot. I'm like, like the way the way the
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Patriots are going twenty years from down, the way we
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: talk about Cowboys and the Cowboys fans think when we're
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: talking about us, and we're living in the past. So
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: I'm just trying, like, let's let's do something we you know,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: we we you know, we can do something now side
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: like yeah, we were good back and we were good
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: la la la. Yeah. I don't want to be that.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: I'm with you there, R Shot. I do not want
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: to be accused of living in the past, you know,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: like we make fun of other teams sometimes, so I
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: don't Speeds and friends, Now, what's up? Speed under your breath? Yeah, yo. Uh,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: you can really stretch out today, Paul getting in your way. Yeah,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: I know, it's a I'm flexing a little bit now.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Now it's good. It's fun. Uh, Paul's great. I mean,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: I don't think i'd say anything I wouldn't say with
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: him here, so he'd just be yelling at me. Yeah,
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: interjected I wouldn't be able to get it all out.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: You're still miliar. You say you're supposed to make fun
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: of the guy who's not there, like there's more oxygen
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: in the room because the big No. Because no, because
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: then Matmorrel goes through and picks them at all, all
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: the specific moments that everything you say about him, and
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: then it's in the open next week and then he's
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: staring dagger said, are you afraid of Paul? No? Mat
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Morrell's cleverly edited opens that uh um. Under the the resigning,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I know, I know it's just three guys. I'm not
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: over reacting to McCarthy James White's later thing. I don't
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: mind the specific resignings, but my concern is kind of
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: like the broader patterns Bill running it back with older
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: guys not leading into the young guys. It's kind of
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: like the Paul Fred argument. Um, I just think God
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: has a tendency to play favorites with old leaders, with
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: special teams guys, you know, pass things up with the
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: Van Noy or column instead of rolling the dice with
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: the young players. I said that last year's speed do
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: you remember? Do you remember when I made that exact
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: point and used that exact phraseology and Fred got mad
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: at me. I know, but what what if? What if?
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: You know? They brought in van Noy and brought back
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: high Tower, and they were hoping that these other guys
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: would beat him out and they just didn't do it,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: or maybe he just was stubborn and said, these are
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: my guys, and these are the ones I can win
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: with because I know they've done it before, and the
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: younger guys gonna have to wait. I and they were
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: winning seven games in a row and they said, oh who,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: it's working and all of sudden reality here. And that's
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: a maybe. But like, I just gotta believe if Josh
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Huchet was that good, he'd have been playing more. He
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: just never showed it. I mean, you can't believe. I
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: gotta I gotta believe what my eyes are showing me.
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: And it's he's what it looks like. But Fred refuses
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: to believe that Bill can make an I just think
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: it's I just think it's I didn't I didn't look
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: at the old slow Patriots and thought Devin mccordy, I
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: thought the linebackers were the problem. They haven't brought back
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: the linebackers. They're not running it back with the linebackers
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: right now. So like I just I don't think it's
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: totally apples. But we had a big argument about it.
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: We come last year, two young running backs, right, You've
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: got a safety you just drafted and another one that's
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: still in his twenties that you just extended. Like, those
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: aren't positions where I felt like we're old and slow.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: The positions were they're old and slow, they're not running
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: it back. They're they're not you know, if not this year,
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: if they resigned high Tower and van Noy Collins right now,
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I would be on on the side of everybody who's
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: calling in saying the old and by the way, so
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: would I. You know, it's but I just don't think
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: I think those positions are They're fine for what they are.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: James why, I mean, he's he's got a contract. That's
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: you got to prove it, like it's I know. I
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: just think if if you, if you think back to
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: the big plays that they gave up in the passing
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: game last year, Devin mccordy was involved in a lot
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: of those, and I think, and I think that's what
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: people I think that's what people are remembering most when
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: they see that he was brought back this year, they're thinking, like, well,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: he was one of the problems. I'm Mike. At the
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: same time, I do agree it's still earliest. Only March
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: will wait and see. I'm just reacting to what I'm
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: seeing you respondings now, and I'm like biting my nails.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Thing is are we going to go back there? And
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: it's it's reasonable to be concerned about it, that's all. Yeah, Well,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: I mean, and that's the fun of it is what
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: direction is it going every year? But again, there's gonna
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: be twenty five more guys on the roster, so you know,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: it's not gonna be random dudes left and right. It's
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: gonna they're gonna be some players that still come in.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: But I get you, like this is this is the
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: fun of this show and why I mean, Jordan Richards
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: are still available, right. I don't know. I don't think
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: they have the face I said to Paul yesterday, when
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: are we signing Corn Robinson? It's like, we probably will.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: That's a good name. I remember that. All right? Thanks
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: be Uh. Somebody named Megan's on the line. What's up?
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: MB are we doing? How you doing, Megan? You wonder what? Um?
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: I'm great? Today is probably one of the best days
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: the year. I'm sure Paul um is not paying attention
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: at all because it's not even here, always paying attention
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: to the basket. He took to day off and the couch.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean good, he should because it's his
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: day with basketball, and then it's Saint Patrick's day too,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: which just makes the day even better. And I know
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: you guys got to talk about free agency, but march manness,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: these next two days, they're really great there. It's good.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: It's four days really yeah. Yeah. And we got into
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: it the other day, Megan, because Fred and I believe
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: like the tournament is like sixty four teams, Like we
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: know that there's the four like early round playing games
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: or whatever like, but to us, it's the tournament when
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: you have sixty four And Paul was getting all mad
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: at us, like, no, they have playing games that means
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: they're in and we're like they're called they're not They're
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: not in, right anyway, I agree with you guys, it's
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: not real like yesterday course a warm up. It was
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: an warm up exactly. Yeah. The tournament starts on Thursday.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: But Megan, I feel like I'm talking to a celebrity
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: here because you know, I'm following you on Twitter and
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: I see all this stuff you're doing, shots, fancy, all
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: the stuff you're doing, and uh, it's it's unbelievable. How
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: are you you know? Are you having fun? Oh? I'm
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: having a blast. I mean I did not expect this
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: at all when I went from my audition. I mean,
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: they glammed me up, but I really didn't expect that
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: it would be quite like this. But I'm having so
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: much fun. I mean it's different. I miss football a lot,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: but I mean every time I go to work, I
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: have a lot of fun and the people I work
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: with are great. The travel is a lot, Like I
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: go every single week to the airport. Um today I'm
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: flying to Charlotte, so that's been a lot. But I
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: mean I'm young. What else do I have to do.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: It's cool. They don't have a charter for all you
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: are you guys, I'm no, that was a serious question.
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: I didn't know. I don't know how. You guys A
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: lot of people that go to those things, So there
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: are a lot of people that go on our trips.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: We all live in different parts of the country, so
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: everyone lives everywhere. Oh so they're not and not everyone's
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: based in Orlando. No, And they moved me here at
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: the beginning so I could kind of like learn there's
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: a facility down here. And they actually told me I
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: can live wherever I want. Now we'll see where I
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: end up. Well that's cool. Well, Megan, I gotta tell
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: you we on Tuesday show we went two hours and
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: didn't mention Tom Brady his unretirement at all. And I
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: know you have strong thoughts about it, so do you
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: want to try and end? How did you not mention it?
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: We totally forgot just what the Patriots are doing, and
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: we just totally forgot about Tom Brady. We talked about
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: it in the off us upstairs, and I think that
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: was like psychologically we thought, okay, we talked about it,
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: but it never just never came out you guys are
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: the reason he keeps doing it unimportant. Well, as Chris
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: Ferrera told us this morning, we should have said, well, Tom,
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: you didn't mention us either, So there you go. I
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: just I mean, I know, Patriots man's get really mad
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: at me, like Martha's a gate lady. He blocked me
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: on Twitter, absolutely insane. But we all know I'm not.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: I'm not a Brady person. I was a Brady prison
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: when he was with the Patriots. But he's not the same, right, Fred,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: can't even you agree he's changed. Yeah, I have a
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: stain that. Yeah, Fred's dealing with cleaning his high pin. No,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I agree with you, Megan, Like I love Tom, I
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: still love Tom. But this whole coming back is not
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: a good look. Well, the whole retiring in the first
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: place just had a weird awkwardness to it, Like it's
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: like I just kind of forced into it. The whole
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: thing is just ridiculous. My fear several years ago, I
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: said when Brett Favre was doing his thing with like
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: flirting with coming back in retirement, and that wasn't a
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: good look. That wasn't a good look. And my fear
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: at the time, and I said it on the show,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: was I hope Brady doesn't end up like that and
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: here we are. Yeah, yeah, so, I mean I guess
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: the difference is he's still great. Yeah, I mean, I
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: know he's going to come back and still play unbelievable
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: and I respect him. That's what people are like, Oh,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: you're such a hater. He's the best ever. I'm like,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: no argument, he's the best ever. I'm just so annoyed
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: with his poet. Yeah. I didn't like that either. I
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: have to admit. Yeah, it's poor to me, it's poor
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: to you. Yeah, well maybe you guys doing. Are the
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Patriots going to make a big move here? I mean
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: they just made one made a move. Breaking news by baby.
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: The Patriots have signed running back Time Montgomery. Oh I
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: know him, Bay Journeyman, Yeah, Green Bay, Baltimore Jets. Okay, details, money, details,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: it's a move. It's not a big no, it's a
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: move two year deal where it's up to four million
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: backs in the league. Yeah yeah, yeah, so James right
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: time Montgomery. Okay, so you've got your core, You've got
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: your committee that you normally have. Yeah, just turned twenty nine,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: Thank god, thank god. He's nothing dreaded thirty. Um, So,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: who's that one guy that you do a lot of
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: stuff on Twitter with Megan? He's always he's the guy,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: he's the wrestler who he's like paranoid. He always thinks
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: that he's not getting the credit he deserves. Who is he? Sammy? Yeah?
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I love him. He's great too. He is so funny,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: so funny. Do you see what's going on right now
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: with him and Johnny Knoxville. No, so Johnny Knoxville obviously
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: from Jackass. Ye have a feud right now and the
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: two of them are going back and forth. And Johnny
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: Knoxville put his phone number out through LA and PMD
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: picked it up. So now he's been ringing off the hook.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: But they're going to have a match at WrestleMania. Oh
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: he And so he's gonna kick the ass of Johnny Knoxville. Yeah,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: wow hopefully. Yeah, that's Megan. Have you hit anybody with
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: a chair yet or no, been hit with a chair?
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: I have not, but I've had to dodge them. Oh really. Wow.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Well I'll be interviewing and then somebody will come to
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: go somebody and I run out of the way. Wow,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: that's your mark to jump out of the Megan jumps
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: out of the way. Oh that's good stuff. So, uh,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: you're still doing Friday Night Raw. Right. He's given us
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: the look like I just did something. There was that funny.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: So we're in a couple of weeks here. Oh yeah,
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: what's that? Are you gonna be there? You're gonna be there?
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, what's there? Maybe we should have a company
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: trip there. Yeah, then we can dodge some chairs to Yeah,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: I invited Paul. You said he has no interest, no interest, fault,
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: no interest. I'll pass. If it was like a Division
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: three basketball game, he'd be like, I'm going yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: all right, Well, well when's the day of that. Um,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: it's actually the week of the Boston Marathon, so it's
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: April fifteenth. Okay, all right, I'll be in La Bib Sorry,
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: oh oh you will, wow, La Mike. That's right. Well,
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: maybe we'll think about it. We'll think about it. Yeah,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: very well. Maybe i'll stop by the office Thursday. But
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm a little nervous because Martha blocked me,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: so I think she might just not let me. I'll
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: just go into the just go into the parking lot
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: before we'll let's try e too. I don't have to
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: go through the gate. Maybe I'll have a wrestling match
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: with her. Oh pay per view? Yea, Megan, I just
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: real quick, I got I've gotten stuck behind a car
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: at the gate and Martha's like leaning over, like like
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: laughing into the car and as Mac mac Jones and
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: like holding the whole process. Apple, Come on, I gotta
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: get to work. I'm a big Macdones fan. You guys, okay,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: good are you? Yeah? So you're the mac Jones is
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: the future of the New England Patriots right, um, No,
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of him. I mean I wish
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: we would be doing some more stuff right now. But hey,
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: and and by the way, you can be good. Keep
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: up the lock of the week. I know a lot
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: of people who made a ton of money betting against
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: you last year, so that was great. Okay, Yeah, I'm
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: going to keep doing it. I actually did one yesterday
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: for March Madness. I had Peter Kiss the over on
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: points and it hit soh okay because he had ended
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: up with what twenty seven or something like that, Yeah,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: twenty eight and twenty five and a half. Nice, there
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: you go, good, good one. Yeah. Calvin Ridley and I
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: were using the same app to bet, and I thought
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: I shut it down because I bet Detroit Mercy, but
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: it turns out it was Calen Ridley. So when the
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: w E you're allowed to bet? There's no yeah, you know,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: I mean I can't bet on WWE. Wow, it's fixed
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: you right? Yeah? That really would be insider trading. It's fixed?
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: Is there gambling? Yeah? All right, Megan, thanks for checking
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: in on on Saint Patrick's day. Appreciate it. Oh, thank
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: you very much at all right at the Worcester all right,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: all right, see you later, Megan. All right, by guys. Bye.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: I think Martha asked listens to the show, Yeah, Meghan, O'Brien,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: Morant and Connolly. Yeah, a lot of names Irish through
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: and through. Well, we saw her tweeting today about how
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: excited she was for the day, and I said, Grahama
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: Gallagher should call in, and Paul even chimed in from
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: his couch. Yeah did he. I think that's why she
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: thought he was here. But so time at Montgomery Okay, yeah? Perfect?
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Probably Brandon Bolden, yeah right, older, backup. Seems like he's
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: played running back, wide receiver, tight end, kind of everything.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: A little bit of that too, didn't sow them. I
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: mean they got a type right, Yeah, that's what the
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: more you can do, you can wasn't he um trying
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: to think now, green Bay. He had a good one
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: good season with Green Bay where he did a lot
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: of different things for them in a pinch because there
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: were a lot of injuries. Yeah, and he came out
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: and really kind of helped them signed the same way
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: that Bolden helped us last year. You're You're dead. On
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: his second year, he had you know, seventy seven carries,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: four and fifty four fifty seven rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: forty four catches, three hundred and forty eight yards. Yeah
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: he did uh yeah that year that was twenty sixteen
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: eight eight hundred and six, eight hundred and five totally
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: yards from scrimmage. So it was I mean, yeah, they
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: needed it because most there were injuries that year. But
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: he's part of a committee. He's not like coming in
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: planting real real spotty Harris or the last couple of years,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: there's not there's not a lot there to They like
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: to have their stable of running backs. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: I always feel like they over kind of overstocked it
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: a little bit. Yeah, he's he's the Bolden and they'll
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: probably draft they'll probably draft around and some people will
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: be like, oh, you know, this is the answer. No,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: this isn't the answer. This was an opportunity. He was available.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: They like what he's done in the past, they think
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: he can fit in and you know, and probably some roles,
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: and so they sign him. It's this, No, this isn't
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: the answer. Don't don't worry about that. A couple of
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: years contract too, seems pretty manageable. So I can just
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: hear them your radio right now. How much money? I
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: think four mil up to four mil so total, so
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: not much. I don't I don't know if that's too
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: much for people. But uh, let's get to some of
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: the emails at web radio or Patriots dot com. So
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: one of the Perillo seven has gone with Bolden to
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: the Raiders. There's one bee out of Paul's bonnet. Other
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: branches of Belichick's tree have tried to transplant the Patriot
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: way by signing former Patriots, but it hasn't resulted in
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: the Patriots level of success. Do you think this is
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: McDaniels trying to import the culture or does he actually
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: have a role on the field for good old Bolden.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean a little bit of both. He
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: did Johnson too, Yeah ya, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: it's a little everything. I mean, check out what I
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: wrote I dug up with, Like I said, the quote
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: on from McDaniels, that'll tell you what what he plans
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: on to and just I mean, I think from off
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: field standpoint, just a guy that can come in and
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: probably I mean a thing about it last night. It's
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: a guy who speaks Josh's language right off the bat.
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: So you know, when you're starting to do install and
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: that kind of stuff, Brandon, you know, just have him
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: go first. He show he knows he speaks the language.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Already his guys are learning. You have guys that can
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: hop in and do it and show you how it's
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: supposed to be done. You don't have like four guys
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: looking at each other like what what did Josh just say?
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: What are we supposed to do? You know, you have
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: one guy that knows what he's doing. I mean, Bill
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: when he first got here was so dead set on
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: doing that. He brought in Bobby Hamilton and Anthony Pleasant
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: and he brought in Roman Fifer, and he was so
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: he felt that Roman Fifer was so important to bring in.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: He made an exception for him where after a game
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: he could fly to California and not come because that's
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: where his family was, and not come back till Wednesday. Yeah,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: he made that exception for the guy because it was
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: that important to have that type of veteran leadership on
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: his team. Yeah. Fans complaining about that one. They're like,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: how can they sign this guy that gets to fly away? Well,
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: you know, but I think I think pretty quickly people realized, okay,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: he you know, it was for a good reason. There
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: weren't that many fans as many as they are now
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: back then, and yeah, they weren't paying his close attention.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: No internet where now it's like something happens in a
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: million people cry out and star wars. Um, here's a
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: game for you. This is still dan Um. Identify the
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Patriots player by their nickname. I make no guarantee about
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: the accuracy of the nickname, but I got them all
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: from a published book on the Patriots, so they should
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: be legit. To make it easier, I've included players from
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: the eighties onwards who were on the team for at
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: least a few years, or players who were well known,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: all right. First, one is Chief Robert Parrish. Uh was
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: it was? That? Was that? Um? Come on? You know? Yeah,
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: yeah it's John Hanna. No, no, no, he was Hogg.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: Chief was David Patton. I did not know that. We
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: just did. Yeah, but I don't don't remember that Army
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: Army wasn't Charlie Army. I don't know. I don't know that.
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: When Bruce Um rooting tooting rout too, he seemed very eighties.
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: This was the early eighties. Actually he played from eighty
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: two to eighty eight, so routing to somebody whose name
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: rhymed with rooting. And two he was an offensive lineman.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: Don Luton close Ron wooton n Yeah, I knew it
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: was some of them. This person had two nicknames, ju
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: Ju and the Jewel. Julian Edelman. No, oh, I have
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: thought you had it. Julian Adams, Yes, Julius, Julius had
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: the Reverend eighty one to ninety rayag knew no, oh,
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: eighty one to ninety Yeah, Irving Friar, No, because he
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: became a reverend, I don't know. I think he became
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: a man of the cloth. Yeah. Lynn Dawson, Lynn Dawson,
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: Big Country There's been a lot of NFL players in
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: nickname Big Country ninety four to two thousand, Big Country.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: I remember the nickname. I don't remember. Nope, No, Matt's Lane,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: mister one O eight two thousand and five to two
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: thousand and eight, mister one O eight, Oh my god,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: I don't remember any of these. I don't know the
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: one's right in my wheelhouse. That's a wheelhouse. One mister
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: one to wait though, Ellis Hobbs because one hundred and
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: eight yard kick return, Yes, yes, Jets. Two more corn
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: Flakes ninety one to ninety six, Corwyn Brown. I wouldn't
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: have got that one. And finally the Dancing Bear ninety
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: seven to ninety eight, Oh my god. Two Pete Carroll seasons. Yeah,
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: that was Chris Canty. I'd love to know, Paul. Maybe
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: we could, I know, see if Parlo got any of
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: those ones. I don't remember any of those. Yeah. Um
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Brent and Indiana wants to know if we've heard anything
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: on Alan Robinson. I haven't heard or read anything. Uh
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: what have you heard? Um, here's to you. Robinson's going
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: to sign you. Um. I see two. The Cowboys are
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: releasing Layout Collins flat out releasing him. Yeah, expect to
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: be a post June one cut. Saves ten million a
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: post June one cut. So there's that goes into Fred's
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: fast forward into time. There are always players right into
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: the future. Yeah, so that could look out for June first,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: June second signing, Patriots sign. I mean not to try
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: to make people feel better, but I do always feel
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: like you get that initial Russia free agency and then
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: you're had in this period now where random guys are
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: just suddenly becoming available. That's what fres thing is like.
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: There are always guys that are you know, and it's
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: guys you didn't really think about. You didn't spend the
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: last two months being like this is a free agent priority,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: but you know, and I think that that's sometimes what
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: they take advantage of that they're you know, in position
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: now of old geez, we didn't expect this guy now
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: to be available and other teams can't really bid on them.
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: It's just the way they do things. I know, everybody
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: doesn't love it, but right. Brendan from Port mcquarie writes
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: in Fred is right, we should have franchised J. C.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: Jackson so we could either free up draft picks and
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: free agent money for a wide receiver or trade him
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: for third round pick. And while I'm settling arguments, rivers
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: do have tides. This dynasty was more Brady than Belichick,
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: and it was a trick play. I'm gonna Lawyer Malloy
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: has come up on some recent shows and it's made
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: me curious on the impact that his departure had at
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: the time. From your perspective from the inside, what impact
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: did his cutting and Tom Jackson's comments have on morale
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: and the organization back then? Well, only you were around. Yeah,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: I remember the day it happened. I marched into Robert
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: Kraft's office and said, I need a pep talk, really,
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: and he said, don't worry, we have a plan. It's
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: gonna be okay. And then we went to Buffalo and
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: we got pasted thirty one to nothing. And I just
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: remember getting on the bus after the game and the
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: bus driver had the local Buffalo sports show postgame and
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: Lawyer Malloy was on it. It's like, you know, I
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: like it here. You know here it's like a family.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: And I said to the driver, turned this off exact words. Yeah,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: I was pissed, But they figured it out. They figured
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: it out and obviously, but yeah, so I want to
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: talk about the Tom Jackson thing in a second, but
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: I just remember during that game, you know, it was
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: the first game of the season, and I think I
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: was sitting next to Brian Moray and he's like, how
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: how far into the game is it before the defensive
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: secondary have their palms up looking at each other, And
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: sure enough it was like the second game of the
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: second play of the game, ty Laws like looking at yeah,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: like when this pombs up? Like what's going on. The
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: Tom Jackson comment, though, I think was the opposite that
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: helped the team, because I'm when he said that. I
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: remember I was in a hotel room and I heard
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: it and like, oh, that's that's not good. Where's he
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: getting that from? You know, your your first assumption is
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: from a player. Yeah. I don't think he did, though.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: I think he kind of made that up. And Bill was,
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: you know, to this day, like I don't think he'll
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: talk to him. Yeah, And I think that Bill took
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: that quote and went to his team and said if
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: this one thing I do care about is you guys,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: you know, and um, you know what I do is
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: you know, for the best, you know. But I think
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: that that I think it helped and I know it
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: pissed Bill off, and they went out and and smacked
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: the Eagles around in Week two, right, Yeah, I recall
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: and you know when they won the Super Bowl that year, Um,
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: you know Jackson was on the field. You know how
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: they have the death set up on the field with
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: and Bill said, I'm not doing it. I'm not going
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: on with you guys. It's interesting hearing that now and
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: kind of comparison to to Devin mccordy of what we're
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: talking about now, like an old safety who is kind
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: of being paid maybe too much to keep people on
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: the same page. And in that situation, I'm granted, I
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: know Laurie Miller is making more money than that, and
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: you know it was a bigger issue. But I also
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: think that he was near the end of the line,
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: maybe couldn't run quite as well as they thought he
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: originally could, but they were willing to kind of tear
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: it off. Then. It's just kind of interesting comparison. Yeah. Um,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: Chris and Colfax, California, No Colfax, Colfax Avenue, I mester,
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: what Colfax the city? A couple of thoughts here. First off,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: Paul wind about how dumb it was to resign mccordy,
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: but signing him lowered his cap number, so the team
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: would have paid more to have him off the team
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: than on it. So that seems like a no brainer
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: to me. Also, what is a scenario where the team
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: finishes somewhere like four and thirteen and you feel good
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: about mac Jones's future if possible? Is there such a
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: scenario if they finished four and thirteen? Is there a
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: scenario in which they could do that and be confident
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: about Jacko's fourn O lights everything up, then gets hurt
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: and doesn't play. It's a good scenario. But what if
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: he finishes to see, I don't think so. I think
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: if they're four and thirteen, he didn't play, well, you
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: know right, well, we'll hold on. What if they were
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: in every single game because of mac Jones and it
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: was the defense that cost them the game victory? Okay, right?
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Like what if what if they lost those thirteen games
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: by an average score of like thirty five thirty three?
- 1:48:54Speaker 1: Like the offense is putting up points, they're keeping pace
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: with the too far off from justin Herbert's rookie season, right,
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Like you've got like a twenty seventeen season where like
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: the offense can score on anybody, but the defense just
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: can't hold up. Now, I feel better already on that.
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: I could see that lining up. You know, in theory,
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: if you're laying it out, they're gonna turn some guys
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: over on defense this year might be a little bit
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: head or mess a cornerback. But offensively, if you can
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: get the line figure fifty touchdowns. But if but if
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: those games and you feel good, But if you have
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: if you have that many games that are closed, there
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: has to be a certain amount of those where Mac
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: has the ball last Yeah, and he didn't do it. Yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: you know, so, I don't know. It's hard, it's hard.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: It's hard to say. You could really feel great. Yeah,
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: I'd feel great about his future if he was playing
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: that way. But if every time you're in a big
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: spot he got the ball and here's your chance, it's
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: a little different, you know, right, I mean it could
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: go one hundred different ways. Yeah, uh, Claire rights in
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: Hello everyone, Hello Marin Marine. Um, I'm with you. Fred.
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: Not happy with Johnson going And the old line is
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: concerning the crap out of me. I wanted to keep
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: Caras and Mason. That trade stunned me. Doing my best
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: to stay positive because I love our quarterback and I'm
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing him year two. But I am
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: a smidge worried right now. Yeah, it's the roller coaster
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: of the first week of free Asians how goes. But
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: as I said earlier, it also is another position now
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: that you have more question marks than you thought you
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: were going to have going into this offseason, and you
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: already have enough of those you don't need more. But
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: that's what happens in rebuilding years Raj and Saint Louis.
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: I understand everyone has allowed their opinions, but on Tuesday,
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: Paul had to be intentionally optus or he's just a moron. Firstly,
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: I watch a lot of Chicago games and Alan Robinson
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: is all hype in Twitter highlights. He puts up those stats,
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: but is just not a winning player, and most Bears
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: fan will tell you that. For a guy who preaches
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: to watch the game and not look just at stats
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: and hates hypocrites, the irony from Loudmouth there was pretty palpable. Also,
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: if the cap is meaningless, then the Seahawks should be
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: in a much better position than they are out. Eventually
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: the bill for every team comes due will for the Rams, Packers, Bucks, Chiefs, etc.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Maybe not twenty three or twenty twenty four, but soon
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: these teams will be cutting and struggling to retain talent
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: like Tennessee and Seattle currently are. Yes, the cap can
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: be manipulated, but really only if you draft well and
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: have cheap talented players like New Orleans. Even for them,
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: they're looking at a rough first half of the decade
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: because of how much they pushed back Breezes contract. I'm
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: all for criticizing Belichick in his moves, but your arguments
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: against him have to be logical and not just Paul's.
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: It's wrong because my feelings is still hurt that bled
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: Cell was replaced. Yeah, put that one in the opener morale. Yeah,
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't. I don't think that's why Paul,
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: But you know, and I mean not to defend Paul,
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: but I mean having conversation with him literally yesterday off
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: air about Alan Robinson, and he was kind of so.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: I don't know what he said or what impression he
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: gave on the radio, but I don't think he's banging
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: the table like he's I think it's I think somebody
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: said he hasn't done that much, but he has put
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: up numbers. He has put up numbers. Yeah, he's And
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: I said, he's like Brandon Cook, you know, wherever he Yeah,
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: wherever he goes. He's close to a thousand yards, but
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: he goes from place to place just always a little
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: bit of a red flag, regardless of guys that just
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: kind of bounce around. Certain guys just do that. Uh,
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: let's see Bill and Bozeman writes in um, am I
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: alone in thinking that Shaq Mason is incredibly overrated with
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: a contract way out of whack with his skill set.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: Am I the only one who remembers who got badly
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: beat for a game ending strip sack in Super Bowl
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: fifty two. He's a solid player, but not a pro bowler.
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I'm happy we unloaded the contract and the player. I
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: think he's a I think he's a good player, to
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: be honest, I've never been the biggest fan. I think
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: he's really athletic, but I think he's undersized, and I
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: definitely think there are, you know, we're games that he
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: had some struggles, But I think he was a very
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: very solid player for the Patriots. And you know this,
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: it hurts. But again, if you had to pick one
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: position on a whole entire football roster to have to replace,
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: I'm taking right guard first. Like every time Tony writes in,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: he says, Eric, South Dakota State hasn't lost since mid December.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Enjoy your friars in the attorney for the next two
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: hours while you can Wow. Okay, this must have come
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: in before. Huh. What's the score now? Province has like
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: a double digit lead. Nice? Nice in the Patriots. In
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: the Patriot's opinions, the return for Shack is disappointing since
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: he was a fan favorite. The return meeting the fifth
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: round pick. But I can't fault the team for trading
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: away an interior lineman who costs tennish million. And that's
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: a decent return for a guard. What was the return
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: for Mankins? A fourth rounder? Guards just aren't that valuable,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: especially when they make ten plus million. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: look that trade up. I don't remember exactly what they
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: got from. Yeah, I don't think it was. I think
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: it's just it's the money. So it's the money that
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: brings the draft picked out. And I again just to
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: state it for the record. I mean Jonathan Jones. I
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: don't know anything, but he's another one that big chunk
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: of changed. This year, the Patriots acquired tight end Tim Wright,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: remember him? Oh? Touchdown Tim Wright and a twenty fifteen
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: fourth round pick for Logan Mankins. Okay, so I picked
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: the following year and a player that year. Yeah, Ramone
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: writes in he's in Tampa. This rebuild should have happened
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: Slash begun the year we brought in camp Eric hit it.
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: They seemed indecisive, but it also seems there was no
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: forward or realistic thinking. I didn't see any reason for
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: them to be as optimistic as they were. What we
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: should have done was taken care of one of our corners,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: signed a few players, and be intentional with our draft picks.
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: Ideally we would have been turning that rebuilding corner. Anyhow,
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: we're here now, and I just hope that we hit
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: on half of our draft picks. I don't care who
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: we draft. I just need them to be good. It
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: would be icing if there were. If they are position
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: of need too, that would help. Yeah. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: I think the comparison is if you hadn't drafted in
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: nine to like twelve Edelman, Gronk, mccordy, High Tower Jones.
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: If you hadn't hit those four guys, that's what you're
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: getting now. You didn't get those guys in those drafts
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: like and they got those guys so they were able
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: to groom and build around them and win Super Bowls.
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: You need star players, and I feel like last year
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: they got I mean, they got mac Jones. They have
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: to continue the more they seem like legit impact NFL players,
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: they need at least three more to continue to that trend.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: Ye Russell in Arkansas, he's upset if we don't sign upset.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: If we don't sign someone today, I might swan dive
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: off my roof. They sign time on coming, So just
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: give me Alan Robinson and maybe Trey Flowers. I'm with
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: the Entrey Flowers. I think that that that would make
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: sense to me, you know, just a good solid edge guy.
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: Not I don't even to be twenty sacks, you know,
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: not that he's that guy, But I think that makes sense.
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: David writes in and Bethlehem, the schemes and teams are changing.
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: Patriots are going to change. Two the skills of players
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: influenced tactics. But in twenty twenty two, the schemes and
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: offense and defense are going to change. Will the Patriots
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: abandon ground to pound? And what will they do well
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: they abandon it? For I think that's an excellent question
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: because you let Yakob Johnson walk. You know, Shack Mason
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: is at his best on the move as a run blocker.
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: You know Ted carriss, I think he's he's a tough,
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: you know, kind of run guy. And I think those
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: moves may maybe do signal I don't want to get
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: too caught up in like every time they make a
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: move that it signals like a grand departure from what
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: they do. It's like they anytime they draft a linebacker
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: who can run, it's like the whole scheme is suddenly changing.
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: But I do think that there's possibly something to that
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: with you know, those guys going out, Trent Brown, I mean,
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: those are you know, big pieces of that. Like everybody thought, hey,
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: we're gonna everyone's getting lighter on defense, We're gonna run it,
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: and you know, put all these big guys out there,
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: So maybe they are. Maybe it's it's it's it is
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: evolving a little bit it But you know, I think
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: Montgomery maybe feeds into that a little bit too, of
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: of having a versatile guy who can do a bunch
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: of things. So also wants to know will the Patriots
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: find and feed some man mountains on the defensive line
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: or will they let loose the hybrids? Will they find? Um?
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Jordan Davis is the huge dude
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: from Georgia that I mean, it's easy to imagine how
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: he'd fit with bar Moore and what what that would
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: kind of how that would kind of work. Um. But
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: I mean I think I start with edge and linebacker
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: speed like that's that's it right there and edge, you know,
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: I mean I think that they're okay shape for this
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: year with with coming and you know, I don't hate
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: Gatcha as much as as Paul did. Um. You know,
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: I think Davis has gone, So maybe there's a spot
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: for like a rookie Um Travis Jones from Yukon would
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: be like a later version of of of that Georgia guy.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: But you know, I think that everything's a need. You
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: can take anything, but I'd start with edge and linebacker,
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Sulman Wright saying, I understand we were not going to
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: have a repeat a last offseason spending spree, but they
- 1:58:00Speaker 1: haven't even made a push for second tier players and
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: relatively cheap deals that were used to seeing them doing.
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: Deuce made the point that they are nowhere up to
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: par with the Chiefs, Bills, Bengals. I would go even
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: further to say right now they're on the third best
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: team in the AFC East. Don't need any rationale for
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: why they're behind the Bills. For the Dolphins, they have
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: proven they can beat the Patriots consistently. Have already signed
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: a few role players for relatively low cost deals Chase Edmonds,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: Raheem mos Dirt, Cedric Wilson. These are the type of
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: signings Patriots would make. I'm concerned the Patriots will be
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: will be trying to play catch up for the next
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: couple of seasons against the Bills and the Dolphins. I
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: don't know. Those guys really not much different than who
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: they've signed, like time Montgomery and I mean I see similarities.
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: I don't disagree with the point that the Dolphins beat
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: you twice last year. I do think it's a different
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: dynamic with Mike McDaniel there instead of b Flow, who
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: would blow your team's gonna get up. They know you
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: were Patriots coach. You know, the Patriots, you're you know.
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: I mean, I really enjoy listening to Mike McDaniel talk.
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: I think it's a fascinating coach matchup because it's like
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: two opposites thirty something say anything jokey dude and Bill Belichick.
- 1:59:09Speaker 1: I like, it couldn't be more opposite ends of the
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: spectrum for those two coaches. Yeah, Kennon, New Jersey, I'm
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: very confused by the moves. I guess I'm trying to
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: figure out how Bill thinks about the next few years.
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: Does he think his teams always have a fighter's chance
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: to go deep in the playoffs? Does he ever write
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: off a year not taking just realizing that this isn't
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: going to be the year. I think he's trying to
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: find a narrow path where he keeps the team competitive
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: while he's rebuilding for a serious run in twenty twenty four. Well,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: I think any coach would want to try to stay
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: competitive even when you're rebuilding. I mean they're not. I
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: mean the two thousand and one Patriots, you're not. You're not.
- 1:59:48Speaker 1: You lost your quarterback, right, You've got a bunch of
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: new free agents, Like you know, I still think he
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: looks at it like that season with you put the
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: pieces in place, you try to build a strong roster
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: top to bottom, and then you see what happens. You
- 1:59:59Speaker 1: see how plays out with injuries, even like we saw
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: snippet in the two thousand and nine season, when I
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: can't get these guys to do what I want them
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: to do. Like he knew during the season that this
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: wasn't like probably a team that was gonna go anywhere,
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: but they still made the playoffs a lot, still trying
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: to win games. Alana sent us an email about not
- 2:00:20Speaker 1: mentioning Brady, and just as she said that or sent
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: the email, Megan called, so she was like, oh my god,
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: as you mentioned Brady to Megan, I literally sent the email.
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: So either I thought you can have that one. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: um let's see. Yeah, Paul writes in from Drake, it
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: not listening live, so if it's been covered already, my apologize. Paul.
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: At one hour in twelve minutes into Tuesday show, you
- 2:00:51Speaker 1: made a bold end statement that Bolden would be back.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: Boy did that hot take? Cool fast? I think he
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: was being snarky. I think was not a rule. I
- 2:01:00Speaker 1: think he meant it. No, But you know Paul. I
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: think he was kind of he said he'll be back. Wow.
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: Well that's the thing with Paul. You never can quite
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: pin him down, like it's just it's always gonna be
- 2:01:11Speaker 1: the next next thing. He thought he was gonna be
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: bad because that's what Bill does. See, he doesn't know
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: and he knows. You can never say that's what Bill
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: does because we don't know what Bill does. Yea, you know,
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: there is no one way. I think if Brandon King
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: was signing would be the one to make Paul's head explode.
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: That would be like the cherry like it's just a
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: pure special teamer who's like thirty three. But I'm with
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: you if they bring back High Tower, I'll be with you.
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: I will not like that, yep, yep. And that's it's
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: hard to say because you love High Tower. But I
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: just think that's where they need to get like younger.
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: Like if somebody said to me High Tower or van Noy,
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: forget about money, I would say van Noy, I think
- 2:01:50Speaker 1: he did more last year than High Tower did. But
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: who would you rather have? Off the feeling, well that
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: I think they told you about that. But but you
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Yeah, but you know what I say,
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: like like I don't want either one of them, but
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: you know i'd pick van Noy over High Tower at
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: this point in their career. Certainly not years ago, but
