- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Genesis 44.
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Joseph sets a trap.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Then Joseph gave a command to his servant.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: He said, Fill the men's sacks with as much grain as they can carry.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Then put each man's money into his sack with the grain.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Put the youngest brother's money in his sack too.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: But also put my special silver cup in his sack.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: So the servant obeyed Joseph.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Early the next morning the brothers and their donkeys were sent back to their country.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: After they had left the city, Joseph said to his servant, Go and follow the men, stop them and say to them, We were so good to you.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: So why have you been so bad to us?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Why did you steal my master's silver cup?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: My master drinks from that cup, and he uses it to learn secret things.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: What you did was wrong.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: So the servant obeyed.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: He rode out to the brothers and stopped them.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: The servant said to them what Joseph had told him to say.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: But the brother said to the servant, Why does the governor say these things?
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: We wouldn't do anything like that.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We brought back the money that we had bound in our sacks before.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So surely we wouldn't steal silver or gold from your master's house.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: If you find the silver cup in any of our sacks, let that man die.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: You can kill him and we will be your slaves.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: The servant said, I agree, except only the man who is found to have the cup will be my slave.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: The others will be free.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: The trap is sprung.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Benjamin is caught.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Then every brother quickly opened his sack on the ground.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: The servant started looking in the sacks.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: He started with the oldest brother and ended with the youngest.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: He found the cup in Benjamin's sack.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: The brothers were very sad.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: They tore their clothes to show their sadness.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: They put their sacks back on the donkeys and went back to the city.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: When Judah and his brothers went back to Joseph's house, Joseph was still there.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: The brothers fell to the ground and bowed down before him.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Joseph said to them, Why have you done this?
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Didn't you know that I have a special way of learning secrets?
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: No one is better at this than I am.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Judah said, Sir, there is nothing we can say.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: There is no way to explain.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: There is no way to show that we are not guilty.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: God has judged us guilty for something else we have done, so all of us, even Benjamin, will be your slaves.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: But Joseph said, I will not make you all slaves.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Only the man who stole my cup will be my slave.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: You others can go in peace to your father.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Judah pleads for Benjamin.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Then Judah went to Joseph and said, Sir, please let me speak plainly with you.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Please don't be angry with me.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: I know that you are like Pharaoh himself.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: When we were here before you asked us, do you have a father or brother?
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And we answered you, we have a father, he is an old man, and we have a younger brother.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Our father loves him because he was born while our father was old.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: This youngest son's brother is dead, so he is the only son who is left from that mother.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Our father loves him very much.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Then you said to us, Bring that brother to me, I want to see him, and we said to you, That young boy cannot come, he cannot leave his father.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: If his father loses him, his father will be so sad that he will die.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: But you said to us, You must bring your youngest brother, or I will not sell you grain again.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: So we went back to our father and told him what you said.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Later our father said, Go back and buy us some more food.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: We said to our father, We cannot go without Benjamin.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: The governor said he will not sell us grain again until he sees our youngest brother.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Then my father said to us, You know that my wife Rachel gave me two sons.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I let one go away and he was killed by a wild animal, and I have not seen him since.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: If you take my other son away from me and something happens to him, I will be sad enough to die.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Now imagine what will happen when we go home without our youngest brother.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: He is the most important thing in our father's life.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Our father will die if he sees that boy isn't with us, and it will be our fault.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: We will send our father to his grave, a very sad man.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: I took responsibility for the young boy.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: I told my father, if I don't bring him back to me, you can blame me for the rest of my life.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: So now I beg you, please let the boy go back with his brothers, and I will stay and be your slave.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: I cannot go back to my father if the boy is not with me.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I am very afraid of what would happen to my father.
