- 1:43[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, is it you can see it.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_03]: That is a sea and an age and says Buck Island.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it's not know how to stay.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's a fuck.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: It's a fake out.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_04]: They they fake.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know how you know how Some people are doing the mega hats.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: Let's say major.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_03]: Look on them That's that version there.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_03]: So I am on how to stay back guys, man Ridicule me all you want for being a house day, but guys, man.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_03]: I do not throw it in people's faces.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_03]: I honestly being a Cleveland
- 2:15[SPEAKER_03]: Sportsman I honestly think that the worst thing is gonna happen to any of my teams that I root for so I'm not too gregarious about it, but this is a hat by a company that I smoked a cigar from Called Crownheads and they are in Smokey Joe's which we went to nice just this last couple days and I was shocked
- 2:37[SPEAKER_03]: I saw Crownheads.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, wait, you guys got this and the and the tobacconis is like, oh, yeah, we're going to turn them out.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_03]: I'm like, what do you mean you're going to try them out?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I've been waiting for this brand to come to one of the, you know, the shops for years.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_03]: So anyway, this was a, their state series.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_03]: They made three cigars in the state series.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_03]: I think three.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_03]: They had the Texas.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was the yellow rose of Texas.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_03]: The Tennessee Waltz and Buck Island.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_03]: Nice.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: I actually bought a box of Buck Island in Cleveland near my dad's house from a good shop.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, yeah, fun times Ohio State Beat and Texas.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he'd been keeping keeping everybody on their toes, but what's happening?
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_04]: I made the decision this year.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know what it was about this year.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think I was just in, I was just been in the mood for it, but I made the decision this year to try to watch a little bit more football.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_04]: like I played football in high school.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_04]: I like football.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_04]: I've never really like it's it hasn't been something that I've got excited about to watch.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_04]: I'm much more of a wrestling and golf guy.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: But this year I don't know, there's just something about something about the the cold weather coming in and football season starting just sounded fun.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to try to watch some watching football this year and we'll see how your browns do my friend.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_04]: That's always that's always an adventure.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, they're probably they're playing Cincinnati.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_03]: So it's the it's the Civil War episode that always happens and I'm just like, uh, this is not going to go well.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_03]: That's true.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like this is not going to go well.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: You guys, unless from how some way, Joey Flacco, Flacco fever comes comes back and just starts gunsling and, right, um, he'll probably get two interceptions in that game.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_03]: That's what I'm predicting right now.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_03]: and they'll probably lose by at least maybe one or two touchdowns.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_04]: But there's a lot you can say about the Browns fans.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: Sorry folks, but I am going to be pessimistic about them and their future.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_04]: A lot you can say about Browns fans what you cannot say is that they are not resilient to people.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_04]: You guys are very, very resilient.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_04]: Um, but Jack, my friend, it's, uh, it's that time.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's everyone's favorite time for us to jump in to our favorite segment of the podcast.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_04]: Don't forget to eat your instant grams.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: And knows the time you've all been waiting for.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: The ordinary broadcast presents Don't forget to eat your instant grams.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_02]: With your host, Josh Loftus, On Jack Mary.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: And remember kids, it's not heresy If you're believable, hard enough.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_04]: This is, don't forget to eat your Instagrams and remember kids.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_04]: It's not heresy.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: If you believe it, hard enough that's how it works.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_04]: And be it, right?
- 5:34[SPEAKER_04]: Jack speaking of football, my friend, speaking of football.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_04]: All right, as much as I am enjoying football this year and something that I am looking forward to watching.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_04]: I am still not to the point, Jack, where I am ready for football to become, I would say viciously integrated
- 5:55[SPEAKER_04]: with the Lord's Day, and this is why.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: Call it when it lands, call it in here, tail, what I'm making.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: It, uh, yeah, let's just go with tails.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: Would you like to kick or receive the Bible?
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: I don't receive.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, let's talk about gosh.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, I finally, hold on.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_03]: I finally got to come up with this.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_03]: I finally got the context of this video.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_03]: And wow, they are actually doing this.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_04]: Would you like to kick or receive the Bible?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, you know if you said kick, you're going to get like dog walked, right?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_04]: Like I can't get the Bible, but I'll receive the Bible.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, this church for for those that our audio only and remember, you can watch all of the video version of these is up on YouTube right now.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: But for our audio only listeners, we have a
- 6:57[SPEAKER_04]: and there are people on stage with him dressed in football uniforms and they did a coin flip to see who would kick or receive the Bible and when I first saw this I thought in my head okay this is I mean he's doing a bit okay whatever right ain't no way they actually gonna kick a Bible like that's not actually something that that we're going to do and I
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: So when the toss chooses to receive the Bible, Patterson back with the kick.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to do the Bible.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to eat it.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_04]: Dude, they're going to kick this Bible.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_04]: Also, like this guy standing dangerously close to each other, right?
- 7:46[SPEAKER_04]: So this guy probably a church intern, right?
- 7:50[SPEAKER_04]: He's got the Bible teed up on the corner.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_04]: And then you've got this one guy standing maybe 10 yards away.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_04]: Like his arms out.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_04]: He's ready to ready to hold it.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_04]: The pastor blows the whistle.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_04]: And here comes
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: to kick the Bible.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, someone in the congregation died that day.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: They got me.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_04]: They got me.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_04]: 100 man hour.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_04]: She's 100.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_04]: That Bible.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_04]: That Bible.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_04]: She got all of that Bible and kicked it so far.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_04]: And went hurtling into the darkness, which is where the people sit, right?
- 8:36[SPEAKER_04]: And church is like this.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_04]: And yeah, you know what?
- 8:41[SPEAKER_04]: How about how about how about how about we don't do that.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_04]: How about let's not.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_04]: Let's not be doing that.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_04]: I know you're excited for football.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_04]: I know you're excited for tailgating.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_04]: I know you're excited for all these things.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_04]: Bear minimum.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_04]: Let's keep our excitement.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_04]: Queld to the point to where we're not kicking bibles.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_04]: Can we do this?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_04]: Let's make this happen.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_04]: Jack.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_04]: I've got one more for you.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_04]: This one.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know how to I'll be honest.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know how to intro this one.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to try.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just going to play it for you.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: And God, let you let you go from there.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_04]: Let you and our listeners go from here.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, that's what I'm going to do here.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_04]: Here we go.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: And Father's house driving here, I noticed for the first time that there's a cat hospital in this town.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: Lord and our hearts are broken that there's not only sick cats, but so many sick cats in this town that they had to build an entire hospital to treat them.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever curse has come against the cats of this area may it be broken tonight, O Lord.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: May the cats be healthy, and their own is be healthy.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: In Jesus name.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, my friend Joel would say that that is probably the like, okay, my friend Joel, who's in a small map to search.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_03]: Is brother one time got up there and some old ladies like pray for my cat.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, yeah, we're not praying for that.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_04]: That guy went full deep and I was driving church and you know like I don't know what the thought price as well Right, he's driving church and he's like wait what the heck where did that did they just put did they just put that up there?
- 10:22[SPEAKER_04]: Where where did that come from?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_04]: like I got to say something about this I'm going to pray you know what I'm going to do I'm going to pray for all the cats all of the sit cats and we pray that Clay come on again pray the curse the curse that is affecting the cats in our community we
- 10:48[SPEAKER_04]: Churches be wild and man churches be wild and and that is why we have this segment.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_04]: So ladies and gentlemen for better or for worse that was don't forget to Easter.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's in great instant grams and make sure to send us your submissions to this segment because we love seeing what all the local churches are up to these days.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: So jack my friend Not not as a segue into this into this into this topic
- 11:17[SPEAKER_04]: But after watching these reels, I do, I am in the right mind frame for the stuff.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_03]: That's absolutely true.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_03]: I'll get what you put down right now.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_04]: What we're talking about today is what do we do?
- 11:33[SPEAKER_04]: When we don't feel like going to church, right?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: Um, obviously this podcast is centered on the local church is what we talk about.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_04]: We talk about our great love for it, our affection for it.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_04]: our belief that the local church needs to be central in the life of of of Christ's people, that we center things around the local church.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_04]: We don't just make the church another compartment, right, and in lives that are already very fractured, right?
- 12:02[SPEAKER_04]: we talk about that a lot.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_04]: Talk about how important the local church is, right?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_04]: But Jack and I have also been in the local church long enough to know that there are times, sometimes seasons of life.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_04]: where going to church, specifically on the Lord's Day, is not an experience that's filled with joy, but it's one that's often sometimes painful, sometimes stressful, and sometimes it's neither of those things, it's we are, it's in a bad place emotionally or mentally and spiritually and go into
- 12:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's it's hard.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_04]: It's difficult.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_04]: It's not enjoyable.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't fulfill in the ways that that that that we're used to or the ways that that it used to, right.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_04]: And that's a reality, right?
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: And both Jack and I have been in seasons of our life where that has been a reality.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_03]: For more, more recently than I'd like to say as well too.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, and look, let's be real.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_04]: There are times like, I'm an elder at my local church.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_04]: I love my local church.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_04]: I love all my people.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_04]: They are a blessing to be a pastor,
- 13:27[SPEAKER_04]: It's easier, it's easily the easiest church that I've had to pastor.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's wonderful.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_04]: I love it.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_04]: There are Sundays where I wake up.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_04]: And I am, I am out of sorts.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'm grumpy.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to go as, as, as my wife says, as Lauren says, I can't, I don't want to people today.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: I get that.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_03]: You are just, yeah, especially as a pastor, though, you are human as just about anybody else's as well, too, Joe.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I think people need to recognize that, like, your pastors are probably going through some some junk right now, and they have the same thought process that you might.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_03]: they're not like you get I just want to like get that out of the way because I feel like a lot of people especially in the United States of America we've been so inundated with this that's the lords of
- 14:28[SPEAKER_03]: a pedestal, he's on a pedestal.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, sure.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_03]: No, he, he has been a pointy of us and it's been made known that, but he has the same struggles and goes through the same things that we do, guys.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, like, absolutely.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_03]: Our pastor is not Jesus.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_03]: Our physical pastor is not Jesus.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_03]: Our, our, our, our overshepard is Jesus, but the man that Jesus put over us is not him.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah,
- 14:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, exactly, and thank the Lord, thank the Lord that we have that overshepard, right, that although we fail often in our portrayal of him and our representation of him, Jesus never fails, right?
- 15:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and this is a whole other topic, actually, that I think would be really great to talk to you, especially if we may be doing Baptistic Distinctive Series, which Jack and I really want to do.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_04]: But something that we say at the Deamer a lot when talking about the pastors is that we are,
- 15:27[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 15:27[SPEAKER_04]: That's a huge distinction, especially within Baptistic Reform Baptistic Understanding of the local church.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_04]: Your pastors, your elders, are first members of the church.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_04]: They are a members of the church first that the membership has come together in a unified voice and said, Yes, these men are going to be set aside for the purpose of leading the church spiritually, right?
- 15:51[SPEAKER_04]: So we do exactly right like pastors are not immune to the things that members are immune to or excuse me.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_04]: That I'm tired.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_04]: Pastors are not immune to the things that members go through.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, right.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_04]: There we go.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_04]: There we go.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_04]: Fixed it.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_04]: We all struggle with the same things.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_04]: And there are times in life where maybe it's just a bad Sunday.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it's a bad couple Sundays.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it's a season of life that you are going through
- 16:20[SPEAKER_04]: we're going to the gathering on the Lord's Day.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's hard.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's hard.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's not something that comes easy and naturally like it does in other seasons.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_04]: It takes discipline to do that, right?
- 16:36[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe you're in that season right now.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe you're finding that that is where you are at.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_04]: And Jack and I just want to provide some comfort and hopefully some encouragement
- 16:49[SPEAKER_04]: my friend, and good Baptist fashion, you and I came up with a, a, a three point illiterated structure for this podcast, because because that's because that's what we do, because that's what we do, because that's how it works.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_04]: That's how it works here, right?
- 17:18[SPEAKER_04]: and the first one that we came up with is when you are not feeling like doing church, when you're not feeling like doing people today, right?
- 17:29[SPEAKER_04]: The first thing that we should go to as Christians that we should take advantage of is our access to the ear of our heavenly Father.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_04]: like doing what you know is true and good.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_04]: Because very often in this Christian life, what we know and what we feel are at odds, that's just true.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_04]: And when you don't feel like doing what you know, you should.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: The first thing that we should be doing is Christians, which is often the last thing that we do is pray.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_04]: Bay that in prayer.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: And Jack, I don't know about you, but prayer for me is something that I am constantly having to remind myself to make a priority in my life when I'm going through hard stuff.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_04]: It's often not the first thing that I go to.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_04]: And it's a it requires a lot of discipline for me to remind myself like no, like make prayer a priority.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_04]: Let's let's go to prayer first.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_04]: I
- 18:37[SPEAKER_03]: probably when the worst things happen in your life, I absolutely like the first thing is like, I try and go to the Lord in prayer.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, let's be honest, when I got, when I had arrested a couple of months ago, that's probably the number one thing that was going through my mind.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_03]: When I would get, even just like going through that process like either I'm whispering a prayer or
- 19:04[SPEAKER_03]: praying in some sort of former fashion, but yeah, that, and what prayer is doing as well, too, it is trying to go your heart and your desires and your eyes to fix back on Jesus, and all that he's done, and all that he's promised, and all that he's went through.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_03]: And read.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_03]: focus yourself and turn your eyes upon him.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: That's what prayer is really doing.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, prayer is this constant conversation and stuff like that and that's how we have access to the Throne of Grace as Josh and I might say.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I think prayer is the first thing because
- 19:49[SPEAKER_03]: that is a place that you want to lay your burdens down at is that Jesus' throne.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_03]: You want to go before him and basically say this is what I'm going through Lord.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what it is.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know why
- 20:04[SPEAKER_03]: I need your help.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_03]: The easiest prayer is I need your help Lord.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes that's all you can get out.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_04]: And that's okay.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_04]: Because that's honest and that's real.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_04]: But I think we need to remember that we have direct access to the Almighty.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_04]: We have such an advocate in Christ that is the great physician, not just of the body.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_04]: But of the heart, of the mind, of the soul, of our emotions, there's nothing wrong with praying to the Lord.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: Lord, please bring my feelings, my emotions in line with your will, in line with your will for my life.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_04]: And I know your will for my life is that I would press into the local church.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: That I would desire it, that I would love it, that I would find it beautiful, and it's where I would go when I'm feeling this way.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: Lord, please do a work in my heart to a work in my mind.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_04]: Heal these things that I'm going through and bring my emotions in line with.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_04]: what I know is right, and what I know is good.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_04]: That's a very good prayer to pray.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: And that's one that we don't often pray because we get distracted easy.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_04]: And we're often trying to either remedy the situation ourselves or seek other forms of comfort.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_04]: And there's other obviously other things that we're gonna talk about that that we should do.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: you know as well or not just things if you just pray more everything will get better.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_04]: We know that's not true but prayer is a very necessary and needed spiritual discipline that's we often
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: Forget to utilize and there's great power in it.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_04]: I do believe that, right?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_04]: So prayers the first one, right?
- 21:52[SPEAKER_04]: Jack, after we've bathed it in prayer, maybe we're feeling a little better.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_04]: Like maybe it's it's taking the twin jaw right, maybe it hasn't.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_04]: What do we do next?
- 22:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I would say the next thing to do is just press into that.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_03]: Press start to press into really, I think some things that we can do is start to press into.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I think the question that most people have is, press into what.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_03]: I think press into promises than the words given to us.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_03]: I love that.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_03]: Press into the things that God has said that are good.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_03]: So when you don't want to go to, when you don't want to go to the Lord's Day service, right?
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: You're just not having it.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes you need to press into that emotion.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: Why do I feel this way?
- 22:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I speak truth into it, man.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, why am I?
- 22:51[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes you have to just take out the gospel flamethrower and just go at it, dude.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: Um, so sometimes you have to press into your emotions.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_03]: Um, sometimes you have to press into your thoughts.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_03]: sometimes you have to press into your reluctance, why am I reluctant to do this?
- 23:10[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes you have to press into your angst or anxiety about what's going to happen.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_03]: What we mean by that is basically you're trying to question,
- 23:21[SPEAKER_03]: why it is that you think that the Lord's Day is not there to help you in your Christian walk.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_03]: Why do you think the Lord's Day is somehow some way a stumbling block or a place in which, I mean, this is a common thing too, especially with veterans.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_03]: If you're around other people, it'll give you anxiety sometimes, especially if you don't know what you're going into.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_03]: But if you've been there already before, you know what you're getting into.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_03]: It's the fact that something is hit you in the past or that week or that day before that you're reluctant to be vulnerable to people in your congregation because of that.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_03]: Sure.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: Or you have to explain, you get hit with one of
- 24:11[SPEAKER_03]: right and for me it's like I'm not lying to you like got thrown in Pierce County jail.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_03]: How do you think it's going?
- 24:19[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah so you have to press sometimes you have to be there's you're gonna have to deal with that and are you gonna press into being brave?
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: about that, to being honest, to being vulnerable, or are you going to retreat into, well, I'm just not going to do this.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_04]: And I love what you said at the top, press into the promises.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: And that dovetails and coincides with the importance of prayer so much.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_04]: is because a huge part of how we pray should be confessing truth, should be confessing what is true.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_04]: And when we cover our pain or our bad feelings, our bad attitude, whatever it is,
- 25:10[SPEAKER_04]: When we cover that in prayer, what we should also be doing is reminding ourselves, what is true and Christ, what is true in the gospel?
- 25:21[SPEAKER_04]: who am I in Christ?
- 25:23[SPEAKER_04]: What have I been given in Christ?
- 25:25[SPEAKER_04]: What am I provided in the gospel?
- 25:28[SPEAKER_04]: And saturate your mind with those truths, right?
- 25:31[SPEAKER_04]: Because often, our feelings, again, they are often at odds with what we know is true.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_04]: So how do we have overcome those bad feelings?
- 25:43[SPEAKER_04]: A large
- 25:47[SPEAKER_04]: It starts in, what are we feeding ourselves?
- 25:49[SPEAKER_04]: Are we feeding ourselves things that just poor gasoline on the, the already bad feelings that we have?
- 25:59[SPEAKER_04]: Or are we reminding ourselves of what is true?
- 26:01[SPEAKER_04]: Am I reminding myself of who Jesus is?
- 26:03[SPEAKER_04]: What he has done for me?
- 26:05[SPEAKER_04]: and why those things result in a love for the local church that I should be having, or I should be striving for.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_04]: And it's not a means of trying to guilt yourself into it, it's like, well, of course I need to be doing this because look, look at everything that I've been given.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_04]: I have to just guilt myself into it.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_04]: That's not the motivation.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_04]: The motivation is, yeah, like I'm out of sorts right now.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to remind myself of what is true, what is right, and that's what I'm going to choose to dwell on.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to choose to continue to dwell on the feelings that I don't like, right, or the making me feel bad.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to choose to dwell on what is good, what is right, what is beautiful.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_04]: That's a very biblical concept.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_04]: So our thoughts often dictate our feelings.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_04]: But what's also true is that your feelings can also dictate your thoughts.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_04]: And when that is the case, you have to make sure that you're thinking,
- 27:10[SPEAKER_04]: overcomes the feelings and that you're filling your mind with what is true so that your feelings can follow suit.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_04]: No, it doesn't happen right away.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes it takes some time, but that's where that trust and that discipline comes in and trusting the Lord, trusting the Lord in that, right?
- 27:27[SPEAKER_04]: So when I'm not feeling like going to church, I covered in prayer.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_04]: I press into the promises of who Christ is and what He has done for me.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_04]: Jack, what is the third and final one before I get to the third and final one?
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: I just want to read a scripture that is true of us and what we're talking about.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_03]: Um, and this is true, um, so Paul says this in 2 Corinthians chapter 10, start, I'm going into verse 3 and then into the end of 5.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: So he says, for although we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_03]: Since the weapons of our warfare are not a flesh, but our powerful
- 28:24[SPEAKER_03]: and every proud thing that has raised up against the knowledge of God and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_03]: So those things are important when we talk about pressing in.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we need to when those counter arguments come up in your mind.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes I'm not going to lie.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes that could be a spiritual warfare moment.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_03]: Let's not be naive about the fact that we live in a world that part of that realm is unseen.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: And part of it is going to be a spiritual warfare battle.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: So you might have to take these thoughts captive, so to say.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_03]: And like I said, present to that.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_03]: But the final thing I would say
- 29:14[SPEAKER_03]: So I think Josh and I would agree that we prioritize the local church every Sunday, right?
- 29:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: But in order to do that, you sometimes have to prioritize a time in which you might have to prepare for that Lord's Day.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_03]: So if you're thoughts and if what you went through may have come up,
- 29:42[SPEAKER_03]: You might have to prioritize a time Saturday night where it's a night in which you have to preach the gospel to yourself in order to prepare for the assembly of believers.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: You might have to prioritize certain scriptures in order for you to walk into that.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_03]: with more awareness and more of the what Paul says of the weapons of warfare to demolish the strong holds.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_03]: You might have to pray and prioritize prayer and reading of the word and even praying maybe as a family together that you may walk in the light.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_03]: I'm using John's language.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_03]: Walk in the
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: So you might have to prioritize those things the night before the Lord state comes.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_03]: You might have to prioritize the fact that you just have to get everything ready to go.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like you might have to lay your clothes out in another room.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: You might have to do everything that way.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yep.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: So that and you might have to prioritize.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_03]: being vulnerable with your family, your wife and your kids, of at least hopefully your kids understand this, maybe, of saying what's happening to you and how you need strength.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_03]: So you have to, we would say that you, yes, you're prioritizing your,
- 31:10[SPEAKER_03]: Um, the way in which you want to go and be with God's people on the Lord, say it, but you have to prioritize other things before that thing was passed.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, yeah, you can't do that.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_04]: You can't do that.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_04]: You can't do that in your own strength.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_04]: And that's where prayer and pressing into the promises.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_04]: give you the tools and the the ammo, if you will, to be able to prepare yourself well and to prioritize the preparation for the Lord's Day, right?
- 31:42[SPEAKER_04]: The Saturday Night Lord's Day prep is an underrated event, right?
- 31:46[SPEAKER_04]: A lot of people don't think through it, right?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but
- 31:51[SPEAKER_04]: Saturday night is a great time to prioritize preparing your heart for the Lord's Day.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_04]: Now, what does that look like?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_04]: Well, that often looks like a few things.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_04]: You read the passage.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_04]: Read the passage and meditate on the passage that's going to be preached the next morning.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_04]: If you don't know what that passage is, you should probably pay attention more.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_04]: Look at your bulletin, right?
- 32:14[SPEAKER_04]: It means you're probably not listed on his own.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_04]: You know, maybe text one of the other members or text your pastor and say, hey, I'm praying for you.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_04]: What first are we covered tomorrow, right?
- 32:22[SPEAKER_04]: So prioritize your prep Saturday night, read the passage.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_04]: Pray for your pastors and pray for your members, right?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: And utilize that time to pray for yourself as well.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: Like Jack has said, Lord, prepare my heart, prepare my mind to receive the good word to receive the the means of grace tomorrow.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_04]: And remember, they are a means of grace.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_04]: They are not a means of law.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_04]: they are not calling you to further striving, they are calling you to rest and trust in the means of grace that God has provided for you.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_04]: So prepare your heart for those things and take some time just to be in the word, to quiet the mind.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_04]: right don't blast you know you know maybe a TV show or a movie up until midnight and then wake up super ragged right right we want to we want to be smart even in the practical things if you know like my heart's not going to be in a good place tomorrow well maybe let's let's try to get to bed a little early
- 33:24[SPEAKER_04]: So at least we know we're moving into tomorrow with a full tank, right?
- 33:29[SPEAKER_04]: Let's end the night with some prayer.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_04]: Let's end the night with some scripture reading.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_04]: Let's end the night dwelling on the good promises of who God is.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_04]: That's a great way to prioritize that preparation, right?
- 33:45[SPEAKER_04]: Last thing that I would say is what we prioritize and this might be the obvious one, we prioritize the local church.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_04]: We prioritize the people, right?
- 33:54[SPEAKER_04]: We prioritize getting outside of ourselves and focusing on the people that God has called us to love and care for, right?
- 34:04[SPEAKER_04]: One of the greatest antidotes to someone that might be struggling with
- 34:11[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe maybe a little bit of self-focusedness, maybe feeling down in the dumps, right?
- 34:20[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe a little woe is me, right?
- 34:21[SPEAKER_04]: Someone who's struggling with being in their feelings a little bit, one of the greatest antidotes to that is loving and serving and investing in your brothers and sisters in the church.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_04]: The Lord is going to use those people.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to use those things to bring healing to those feelings, to bring healing to that heart.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_04]: And he's going to use his people and his word equipped through the Holy Spirit to do all those things.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: So, that's something that we should seek to still do, and when you're in that season it might look a little different, but that's okay.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_04]: Priorit, still don't, don't pull back, don't shrink back from the thing that you're struggling with.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Press in, press in and prioritize loving and serving the people that are in your church so that you have those brothers and sisters,
- 35:21[SPEAKER_04]: that can come alongside you through that season and walk with you through it, don't suffer in silence, bring people into how you're feeling, bring people into that reality, let them in on it, tell your pastors, tell your members, say, hey, I am in a season right now, where for one reason or another,
- 35:40[SPEAKER_04]: The local church is hard.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_04]: I am struggling with being here on the Lord's Day.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_04]: I'm struggling with relationships.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_04]: I'm struggling with, you know, A, B, and C. Let people speak into that.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_04]: Let people come alongside you.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: People that you trust.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_04]: Let people sit with you in that.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_04]: and walk with you through it.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_04]: Don't walk through it alone, right?
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 36:02[SPEAKER_04]: Because you can like prayer is vital and it's good.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_04]: It should be the first thing that we do.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_04]: Pressing into the promises is good and what we should be doing.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_04]: Prioritizing preparation, right, is really good.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_04]: But if you're doing all of that strictly on your own and you aren't living in community or
- 36:26[SPEAKER_04]: it's not going to do very much good because you're neglecting one of the main things that the Lord works through and that's his people.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_04]: So press into those things and trust the Lord in the process because we all go through it.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_04]: I know can be discouraging.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_04]: I know can be frustrating, but understand.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_04]: You're not alone.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_04]: There's probably, and this is the last thing that I'll say in Jack, you can you can close us with some thoughts or just close the up out whatever you want.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_04]: I guarantee you that you are not the only one there that feels the way that you do.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_04]: I guarantee you that there are people sitting in the
- 37:08[SPEAKER_04]: the people leading music.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_04]: It might be the people ushering serving community.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_04]: It might be the pastor himself preaching the Word of God that does not feel like being there, but they are there anyway.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_04]: And that is encouraging to know that we are prioritizing each other over our feelings, over our frustration.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_04]: And that's a really, really great and beneficial thing.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_04]: So that's how I'll close that.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_03]: Now I got, I got no other things other than what I said, so I'm right off.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: Um, yeah, appreciate your words and you as well.
