Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Have you challenged this year twice? I'm over two. I
- 0:02Speaker 1: banned myself. A hey, I may aim is a oj Adella.
- 0:06Speaker 1: You just made this up, dude, I'm going to get it.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I was having an hot of body experience. I was
- 0:10Speaker 1: fired up, man. I don't want somebody to get fired.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Welcome back to season four. I'm on base. I'm your host,
- 0:16Speaker 2: Mookie Betsen. Today we have a twenty seventeen first round
- 0:20Speaker 2: pick Angels outfielder and the only man to rob three homers.
- 0:24Speaker 3: That's dope. Three homers in one game, especially Joe Adell.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Thanks for coming.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Brother, of course, brother, glad to be here. It's awesome.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Everything been good.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Everything's been good, man, staying the course. A lot of
- 0:37Speaker 1: ball left to play, a lot of ball up to play.
- 0:39Speaker 1: As you know, we got a new game this year.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I want to kind of get into and it's called
- 0:43Speaker 1: make the call. They're pitches right, and you got to guess.
- 0:46Speaker 1: You got to guess if it's a striker ball. If
- 0:49Speaker 1: you get it wrong, I have a bowl of questions
- 0:56Speaker 1: that we get to ask you if you get it right. Obviously,
- 0:58Speaker 1: don't have to answer any questions, all right.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I want to know about what did you think about
- 1:01Speaker 2: the ABS challenge system everything, you like it.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's just definitely changing the game. There's
- 1:06Speaker 1: definitely a strategy behind you know, using it. You know,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I know for us, like we're trying to approach it
- 1:11Speaker 1: of you know, if we're in a situation where runners
- 1:13Speaker 1: in scoring position, that type of thing, that we try
- 1:16Speaker 1: to pull it out and use it. But there are
- 1:18Speaker 1: certain guys that are kind of banned right now from
- 1:22Speaker 1: using that. We've got to con if you're tapping and
- 1:25Speaker 1: it's over the middle of the play, you know what
- 1:26Speaker 1: I mean, and it's a repeat offender, you know, you
- 1:28Speaker 1: gotta yeah, you gotta gotta shut it down.
- 1:31Speaker 3: So have you challenged this year?
- 1:32Speaker 1: I have, So I've challenged I think twice. What's your
- 1:36Speaker 1: what's your percentage? I'm over to the band. I banned
- 1:40Speaker 1: myself a little bit. I'm trying to be careful with
- 1:42Speaker 1: it really, like the off speed, the off speed like
- 1:45Speaker 1: down in the zone that kind of clips the bottom.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It's kind of tough. So I've I've kind of put
- 1:50Speaker 1: myself on the back burner from using it for right now.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I actually haven't challenged any I do like it though,
- 1:56Speaker 2: because I think it's fair all the way around, you know,
- 2:00Speaker 2: for for both pictures and and hitters, and but I
- 2:05Speaker 2: haven't challenged any part of me is like I would
- 2:08Speaker 2: rather our pictures use it, especially getting leading to the game.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I did use one in my rehab assignment and I
- 2:14Speaker 2: got it right, So it did give me encourage me
- 2:17Speaker 2: got a little confidence with it. But yeah, we'll see
- 2:21Speaker 2: if I use them again. I rather people like show
- 2:23Speaker 2: hey and the pictures use it. You know, one percent
- 2:25Speaker 2: those are real game. And if you're not seeing it,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you got to be honest with yourself, you know. I mean,
- 2:29Speaker 2: if you're not, that's the thing.
- 2:31Speaker 1: If I'm not picking this guy up, I'm probably not
- 2:33Speaker 1: using it, you know what I mean?
- 2:34Speaker 3: You ready, Yeah, let's get it now. You're you're in.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Don't ask me. This is only you. Okay.
- 2:39Speaker 1: It's a tough angle right there too, I know you.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So now we get a little taste of their medicine.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That's got to be a ball. It's got to be
- 2:50Speaker 1: a ball that backed up a little bit, backed up,
- 2:52Speaker 1: a good bet.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, what y that's why you're banned. That's why
- 2:57Speaker 2: I'm out. I can't that's well, all right.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Question one. I thought that it was a ball.
- 3:03Speaker 1: To so didn't it look armside the whole way time?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Oh wow, you speak pig Latin. Have you ever needed
- 3:13Speaker 1: to use that for anything? And how did you learn it?
- 3:15Speaker 3: Pig Latin? I mean big Latin. I mean I heard
- 3:18Speaker 3: of that from when I was in like elementary school.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But no, it's basically saying like words backwards, but you
- 3:26Speaker 1: start with the vowel, so like whatever word you're saying,
- 3:29Speaker 1: you start with the vowel and then put the letters
- 3:31Speaker 1: before it at the end.
- 3:32Speaker 3: So where do they speak this?
- 3:33Speaker 1: My mom taught me. My mom was an English teacher
- 3:36Speaker 1: forever and there's been an education forever, and it's just
- 3:39Speaker 1: kind of like a family thing, so we would kind
- 3:41Speaker 1: of had our own hidden language.
- 3:43Speaker 3: So they don't speak.
- 3:44Speaker 2: This isn't like a real like in South America or
- 3:47Speaker 2: Europe or something.
- 3:48Speaker 1: No, it's claimed to have been at some point, like
- 3:51Speaker 1: kind of just like one of those one offs. People
- 3:54Speaker 1: just kind of could talk to each other communicate, but
- 3:56Speaker 1: it's nothing official.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Okay, So say, hey, my name is Joe Adell.
- 4:01Speaker 1: He hey, I may Aim is a Oja Adela. So
- 4:06Speaker 1: how about that? And do you speak pig Latin?
- 4:12Speaker 3: So it sounds like you just made this up.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I know it's crazy, but it sounds good though. It
- 4:16Speaker 1: sounds like I'm fluent with it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Though it sounds like you're you're sick.
- 4:21Speaker 1: See, I could talk about you right now and you
- 4:24Speaker 1: wouldn't know what I'm saying. So I have like an advantage. Actually,
- 4:27Speaker 1: me and my mom and sister and a couple cousins
- 4:30Speaker 1: have done it before. We've talked about somebody in front
- 4:32Speaker 1: of them and they didn't had no idea.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Were they American? Because yes, I mean, this is unbelievable.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So okay, pitch too. That's got to be a ball down.
- 4:48Speaker 2: All right, let's see it.
- 4:52Speaker 1: What he didn't catch that?
- 4:55Speaker 3: Well? No, I don't try to make it his fallt.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Who has the worst walk up song on the team,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know what? He keeps changing his but no one's
- 5:08Speaker 1: walk up sir.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Oh I'm not.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I'm not feeling it. He went with Yeah, he went
- 5:11Speaker 1: with some of the Fergie stuff, and you know, nothing
- 5:14Speaker 1: against Fergie, but I'm like, hey, man, you know we
- 5:16Speaker 1: gotta we got to back seat it, man.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Okay, so what's your walk up?
- 5:20Speaker 1: Too hard for the radio right now? So I just
- 5:22Speaker 1: did the from the New Drake and he dropped three
- 5:25Speaker 1: albums at three two days ago.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I haven't even heard. I don't even listen to music
- 5:30Speaker 3: much anymore.
- 5:31Speaker 1: No, I just got I just got through Iceman and
- 5:33Speaker 1: then like.
- 5:34Speaker 3: I that's that's that's pretty good.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, that's pretty good. I didn't get through all the rest.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Are you drake guy or you just like he made
- 5:40Speaker 3: a couple of songs.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I'm kind of just like, I ride the wave of
- 5:43Speaker 1: what everybody's listening to try to get in on it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: But I'm like an all music guy, so like I
- 5:48Speaker 1: don't know genre. Country, Yeah, I like everything, dance, electric
- 5:52Speaker 1: like everything. So nice. Okay, all right, pitch three, you
- 5:56Speaker 1: need to be starting to say I just need to
- 5:57Speaker 1: start saying, just strike. Can we play it again? It's
- 6:04Speaker 1: not gonna want.
- 6:04Speaker 3: To play it. I just go ahead and reachain in here.
- 6:09Speaker 1: That's a ball that's up, that's up arm side like
- 6:12Speaker 1: he put it away. Yes, yes, good for you. It's
- 6:18Speaker 1: like the odds. If I keep saying ball, it's eventually.
- 6:21Speaker 3: At some point. Yeah, he can't do all strikes.
- 6:23Speaker 2: So like, is there a theory that you have when
- 6:25Speaker 2: you're looking at these like or as you're up there.
- 6:29Speaker 1: The thing for me is I feel like with the
- 6:31Speaker 1: A B S. We've been better at the top of
- 6:34Speaker 1: the zone. The bottom part of the zone's top.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I feel like that there is like there is no top.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Like at the top is just it's a ball all
- 6:43Speaker 2: the time, you know, But at the bottom, like you said,
- 6:45Speaker 2: it just clips it.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Like sometimes I go back to the like the abs
- 6:48Speaker 1: if I don't challenge, like a pitch up called strike
- 6:51Speaker 1: and I go back and look at it, and I'm like, man,
- 6:52Speaker 1: that was.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Like nowhere near yeah, like a ball up.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I didn't think it was that far up.
- 6:56Speaker 3: So all right, next pitch, you got one, right, I'm
- 7:00Speaker 3: going to go off.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you're no, let's play it again. I worked
- 7:04Speaker 1: for me last time. Oh my gosh, I don't get
- 7:07Speaker 1: to do this in the game.
- 7:08Speaker 3: This is.
- 7:10Speaker 1: God that looks out done that What do you think? No, No,
- 7:13Speaker 1: you can't ask me. I know what it is. You
- 7:17Speaker 1: already know.
- 7:17Speaker 3: No, I have no idea, but I just can tell.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I feel like he caught that. No, that's a ball
- 7:24Speaker 1: out stop.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I think it's a strike.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yes, come on, That's why I don't challenge. See, I
- 7:32Speaker 1: knew it had some of that arms side. I was
- 7:34Speaker 1: looking at it. I was like, no, that ran off.
- 7:36Speaker 3: We got one more. That's a strike. Let's see it.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You want to get him to play it three times?
- 7:52Speaker 2: That one you didn't, but it is okay, So Joe,
- 7:56Speaker 2: I think you should unban yourself.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Bro. You you did pretty good.
- 7:59Speaker 2: And really the statistics say it's like fifty to fifty anyway,
- 8:03Speaker 2: especially on a lot of these pitches.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So if you start challenging stuff over the heart, I'm
- 8:07Speaker 1: just glad we didn't have the umpire of you again. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 1: that one was tough.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Okay, So let's switch gears a little bit. I want
- 8:14Speaker 2: to talk about your home run robberies. Bro, you had
- 8:16Speaker 2: that game rob those homers. What was going through your
- 8:19Speaker 2: mind as you were the first one? Should I say yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 2: because I remember being in the outfield is like you
- 8:24Speaker 2: hardly ever get a chance to rob a homer, and
- 8:29Speaker 2: you know, so you got to take advantage of that
- 8:32Speaker 2: situation because the chances you have in another one are
- 8:34Speaker 2: very slim.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So here you go. Yeah. So, I mean, Kyle really
- 8:38Speaker 1: hit this ball. I mean this was a this was
- 8:41Speaker 1: a line shot.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And two.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Like the thing that I love too is we were
- 8:46Speaker 1: positioned a little deeper, like throughout the entirety of this game.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Normly we're playing a tid bet Shalloh, but we played
- 8:53Speaker 1: you know, they have a bunch of hoole side lefties
- 8:55Speaker 1: that really can hit the ball with seattle, you know that.
- 8:57Speaker 1: But so I was back on this ball Eddy, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: then when he hit it, I just my first step
- 9:02Speaker 1: was great. I got back to the wall and really
- 9:05Speaker 1: I was just like, it's just time to get up,
- 9:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It had a little bit
- 9:08Speaker 1: of top spin too. Yeah, it helped me a little
- 9:11Speaker 1: bit at the end. But yeah, just getting back and
- 9:14Speaker 1: just just going for it, trying to be aggressive.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Okay, So then let's go to the second one. Naylor
- 9:18Speaker 2: hit this one.
- 9:18Speaker 1: This was crazy. It was just like I was in
- 9:20Speaker 1: the same spot.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Little more hair under it though.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I had a little more hang time on it.
- 9:28Speaker 2: What was that celebration? I was fired up, man, I was, Yeah,
- 9:31Speaker 2: I was. I was having body experience, you know at
- 9:35Speaker 2: this point.
- 9:35Speaker 3: I mean, because yeah, to do two in a in
- 9:37Speaker 3: a game like crazy.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Mike was looking at me like what am I watching
- 9:40Speaker 1: right now? You know what I mean? You get somebody
- 9:43Speaker 1: like that to look over there, you know, you got
- 9:45Speaker 1: it going on. So so then then you get another one. Bro,
- 9:49Speaker 1: but this one was crazy though. This one was crazy.
- 9:52Speaker 1: This one was wild. So I'm over here, I'm basically
- 9:55Speaker 1: I'm still playing back, so I'm playing deep, so really
- 9:58Speaker 1: I'm just running straight across point. But when I get
- 10:02Speaker 1: over there, this ball is like right in front of
- 10:04Speaker 1: the foul pole. So I'm like looking at the foul
- 10:06Speaker 1: pole and I'm like, just focus on the ball, you
- 10:08Speaker 1: know what I mean, don't don't worry about the foul pole.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And it sneaks back fair. I'm right there, and then
- 10:14Speaker 1: I just kind of like lean over and and bring
- 10:16Speaker 1: it back.
- 10:16Speaker 3: And were you scared to hurt yourself or you're like nah?
- 10:19Speaker 1: I was like, dude, I'm going to get it. We're
- 10:21Speaker 1: in a one to zero ball game. You know. We
- 10:23Speaker 1: got our closer on the mound. It's the ninth inning.
- 10:26Speaker 1: It's like, I'm going with it. And then obviously we
- 10:28Speaker 1: got the celebration right there at the end with the
- 10:31Speaker 1: fans in the stand.
- 10:32Speaker 3: You got a picture right there right The picture was.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Dope, legendary. Did you legendary? Stuff's crazy?
- 10:38Speaker 3: Did you did you need to sign that and then
- 10:40Speaker 3: hang it up in your house? Bro?
- 10:42Speaker 1: We actually so my fiance Jasman just got it. Framed.
- 10:44Speaker 1: We just blew it up, had it printed out. So
- 10:46Speaker 1: the lady that took it, she gave us multiple photos.
- 10:49Speaker 1: She was really cool about it, and we had her
- 10:51Speaker 1: on the field and did like a whole thing with it.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But yeah, we blew it up. And they actually I
- 10:56Speaker 1: think they said that they have like a local bar
- 10:58Speaker 1: that they own. And so she.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Brought to the field, had me sign it for and
- 11:01Speaker 2: I wrote a little note on there and everything, and
- 11:04Speaker 2: your mom was there too.
- 11:06Speaker 1: She was, yeah, so mom came in town, so we
- 11:08Speaker 1: gotta gotta do.
- 11:10Speaker 3: What does she say?
- 11:11Speaker 1: She was, without words, just fired up, you know what
- 11:14Speaker 1: I mean. And she's she's a very professional woman, but
- 11:17Speaker 1: to see her kind of get fired up, and then
- 11:19Speaker 1: Tory Tory.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Tory said that was one of the best defensive games
- 11:23Speaker 2: he had seen, and coming from him, I mean, you
- 11:26Speaker 2: got Trout looking at you like what's going on?
- 11:28Speaker 3: You got Toy looking at you like what's going on.
- 11:30Speaker 1: They were watching the post game just like watching me
- 11:33Speaker 1: talk on there, just in awe. And I was like, no, stop.
- 11:36Speaker 1: When these two are watching you and they're trying to
- 11:38Speaker 1: act like they've never seen something before, it's it's kind
- 11:40Speaker 1: of a crazy moment.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Has Tory helped you a lot in the outfield defensively.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Ton a time? Just really like when I first got up,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I struggled going back on the ball. So it's kind
- 11:50Speaker 1: of funny how I'm that's kind of like a superpower
- 11:52Speaker 1: of mind is going back now because it used to
- 11:54Speaker 1: be something I struggled with. So really just the mindset
- 11:58Speaker 1: of just going back and just after it, you know,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and he was one of the best that doing it.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's Tori so pretty awesome.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Then you had another, uh you robbed another Homer in
- 12:09Speaker 2: in Cleveland, Like that was.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Like last crazy, crazy crazy?
- 12:12Speaker 3: What are the odds now You're now you're the guy?
- 12:15Speaker 2: I mean, shoot, So I want to I want to
- 12:17Speaker 2: switch switch a little bit and talk about some of
- 12:20Speaker 2: the the greats that you've been around, like Tory Show, Hey,
- 12:24Speaker 2: obviously Mike, what of what of those guys? Kind of
- 12:28Speaker 2: what is Mike meant to you? And what does he
- 12:30Speaker 2: taught you as far as playing the outfield really.
- 12:33Speaker 3: The whole game in general? One hundred percent.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I've obviously I've kind of outside of Mike, I'm like
- 12:38Speaker 1: the second longest tenured Angel now, so I've been around
- 12:41Speaker 1: you know, Mike now for a while, but really just
- 12:43Speaker 1: taught me the level of consistency of just your work
- 12:46Speaker 1: and show Hey was unbelievable too when he was with us,
- 12:49Speaker 1: and just being very meticulous about a routine and committing
- 12:54Speaker 1: to something because you know, like you're going to go
- 12:56Speaker 1: out there and there's just gonna be days where it
- 12:59Speaker 1: doesn't go your way and you don't have it going on.
- 13:01Speaker 1: There's gonna be weeks where it's like that, and so
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's really easy to want to switch something up and
- 13:05Speaker 1: change something or try to reinvent the wheel. And these
- 13:09Speaker 1: guys are just like, hey, like we know what works,
- 13:12Speaker 1: like you know who you are as a player. Just
- 13:14Speaker 1: commit to that process. So over the last five and
- 13:17Speaker 1: six years of you know, really being in the big
- 13:19Speaker 1: leagues and being around Mike and these guys, they just
- 13:22Speaker 1: show you that level of consistency and what they do
- 13:25Speaker 1: in their routine.
- 13:25Speaker 2: So have you balanced, because at some point you do
- 13:29Speaker 2: have to switch some things up just to keep up
- 13:31Speaker 2: with what's going on. How have you balanced being consistent
- 13:35Speaker 2: but also switching some things up and adding to your
- 13:40Speaker 2: repertoire of whatever it is, whether it's hitting, defense or whatever.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Have you balanced that.
- 13:45Speaker 1: One hundred percent. I think. I think one of the
- 13:47Speaker 1: big things for me is when I'm getting a little
- 13:49Speaker 1: out of whack, I'm trying to do too much. And
- 13:51Speaker 1: that's normally I'm trying to either if I'm slumping, I'm
- 13:54Speaker 1: trying to swing my way out of it, or you know,
- 13:57Speaker 1: if I'm not feeling too great, it's I'm not seeing
- 13:59Speaker 1: the ball or I'm chasing. And one thing that's always
- 14:02Speaker 1: the constant is to just go back on defense. And
- 14:05Speaker 1: that's like always, that's kind of how I've reverted back to.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Kind of getting back going at the plate is like
- 14:10Speaker 1: if I can go out and make a big play,
- 14:11Speaker 1: or go out and focus on trying to get it out.
- 14:14Speaker 1: If I'm getting out, somebody else is getting out, and
- 14:16Speaker 1: kind of trying to have that mindset. A lot of
- 14:18Speaker 1: times things will click back, but really just shorten up
- 14:21Speaker 1: and do what the game's asking for a lot of times,
- 14:24Speaker 1: he's getting me back.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Just play the game, not worry about all the extra things.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I don't be the hero. Just play it, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and then you'll get back into that groove.
- 14:32Speaker 3: And then eventually we'll be the hero.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, I do want to talk a little
- 14:35Speaker 2: bit about Show, Hey, and pitching. He's going crazy right now,
- 14:38Speaker 2: especially but in general, you saw him pitching all the time.
- 14:42Speaker 3: What you got on in pitching, bro.
- 14:45Speaker 1: The thing about Show that you know gets me going
- 14:48Speaker 1: is the fact that he'll come into spring training he'll say, hey,
- 14:51Speaker 1: like I want to do this, and most people come
- 14:54Speaker 1: in to spring training and they have all sorts of
- 14:56Speaker 1: ideas about what they're going to do, and he just
- 14:57Speaker 1: does it. It's like he came in. It's I remember
- 15:00Speaker 1: when he started messing around with the sweeper for the
- 15:02Speaker 1: first time a couple of years ago, and we were like,
- 15:05Speaker 1: it's like one of the best sweepers in the game,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's just it's crazy to see.
- 15:09Speaker 1: But really just his tenacity and focus when it comes
- 15:13Speaker 1: to getting it done and trying to find whatever he's
- 15:16Speaker 1: trying to do. It's like he finds a way to
- 15:18Speaker 1: get it done all the time. So he's been just
- 15:20Speaker 1: a force.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's kind of sometimes not really fair, just because you know,
- 15:27Speaker 2: people say you can do whatever you put your mind to, right,
- 15:32Speaker 2: and it's it's true in a lot of situations, but
- 15:36Speaker 2: like in the big leagues, it's not. It's not really like,
- 15:38Speaker 2: you can't just say, oh, I'm going to throw a
- 15:40Speaker 2: sweeper and then be the best in league throws so.
- 15:42Speaker 1: One time in a bullpen and come out and then
- 15:44Speaker 1: go you.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Know, you know what I'm saying, Like that doesn't really
- 15:46Speaker 2: work that way, and for him it does. I think
- 15:50Speaker 2: he his rules to life are a little different than
- 15:54Speaker 2: the rest of us, which is cool.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I'm glad he's on our team. So but you had
- 16:00Speaker 3: your chance, you had him.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Sorry about it, but I do want to talk about
- 16:03Speaker 2: and then him having obviously two of the best in
- 16:06Speaker 2: the game. As far as Show and Trout, how did
- 16:09Speaker 2: it go show Hay than Trout or Trout didn Show?
- 16:11Speaker 3: Hey.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I think for the most part it was a Show
- 16:13Speaker 1: hate leading off and then Trout was second.
- 16:15Speaker 2: How was that When you're in the lineup and you
- 16:18Speaker 2: see Show hate Trout.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Oh, well, I'll tell you right now. It's great. You
- 16:22Speaker 1: know you're gonna get something good to head because those
- 16:23Speaker 1: two dudes are going to wear them out, you know
- 16:25Speaker 1: what I mean. You're hanging out behind that and you're like,
- 16:27Speaker 1: I'm in good shape. But I mean it's it's special.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And the crazy thing is about like Show too was
- 16:32Speaker 1: like think about that he pitched, he would lead off
- 16:37Speaker 1: right and work the count just like you would if
- 16:41Speaker 1: you were any other position player, and then go out
- 16:44Speaker 1: and throw seven innings with three hits and no runs.
- 16:48Speaker 1: And we expected it. Yeah, I had to like wake myself.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I'm like, hey, like this is ridiculous. Sitting on the
- 16:54Speaker 1: bench expecting a guy to go and do this in
- 16:56Speaker 1: a major league game is insane.
- 16:57Speaker 2: That's what I see now, is like, you know, if
- 17:02Speaker 2: he doesn't get a hit or it doesn't maybe have
- 17:04Speaker 2: a couple of bad games, it's like, well, what's wrong
- 17:07Speaker 2: with show Hey? Well, I mean he did just go
- 17:09Speaker 2: seven innings, you know, two hits, he does have a
- 17:12Speaker 2: point seven e ra A. You know, you forget like
- 17:15Speaker 2: all the other ways that he really affects the game.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And so would you how would you rank that as
- 17:20Speaker 2: far as like duos show Hey and Trout.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I would say, for me, that's got to be like.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I would say, probably top top three or four duos ever,
- 17:33Speaker 2: you know, like back to back those two there there
- 17:37Speaker 2: can't be that many more duos that are better than
- 17:42Speaker 2: show Hey and Trout.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Dude, it was it was silly like sitting back and
- 17:46Speaker 1: watching it and then you get like it. For me,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I was I got used to being a part of him,
- 17:50Speaker 1: just like being out there and it's like this is
- 17:52Speaker 1: wild And there was a time where pull Holes was
- 17:54Speaker 1: out there. Oh yeah, you know too, you know what
- 17:56Speaker 1: I mean? For us, it was just just having that
- 17:58Speaker 1: that's about the starts it is. I mean, that's that's
- 18:01Speaker 1: big time, you know what I mean, that's big time
- 18:03Speaker 1: for sure.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Back in twenty twenty three, I know you probably remember
- 18:07Speaker 2: watching the WBC and you saw show Hey and the
- 18:10Speaker 2: mic showdown right this epic? Did you was there like
- 18:14Speaker 2: a group chat or something going on when when that happened, Well.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I think nobody knew what to say. I think that's
- 18:19Speaker 1: kind of what the what the vibe was because we
- 18:22Speaker 1: were all sitting watching the game and it was like, well,
- 18:24Speaker 1: we can't say what a punch out, you know what
- 18:26Speaker 1: I mean, because it's like, because it's Mike, are we
- 18:28Speaker 1: going to get you know, we could get our bags packed,
- 18:31Speaker 1: They're going to send us out of here. You know,
- 18:32Speaker 1: we don't we don't want to talk about it, but
- 18:34Speaker 1: I mean you want to talk about two of the
- 18:36Speaker 1: best players that were just going like like a clash
- 18:38Speaker 1: of titans. I mean, it was pretty unreal.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Was it weird when they got back to camp?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Oh no, I don't think so.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Everybody was cool.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Everybody was cool and it was just talked about it
- 18:47Speaker 1: all for sure. But it was good for baseball. Yeah,
- 18:49Speaker 1: like that's what everybody got out of it was just
- 18:51Speaker 1: the experience of seeing that. You're not going to see
- 18:54Speaker 1: that every day, you know what I mean, like Mike
- 18:56Speaker 1: wearing USA, you know, show hey with Japan like one
- 18:59Speaker 1: on one, like that's that's what everybody came to see.
- 19:01Speaker 3: So that was that was really amazing.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And then when you know, being there, you kind of
- 19:07Speaker 2: take it for granted because you don't even really pay
- 19:09Speaker 2: attention to that. You're just playing the game, right obviously
- 19:12Speaker 2: you know that the teammates, but you're not really paying
- 19:14Speaker 2: attention to the to the.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Whole thing, you know, like what just happened?
- 19:19Speaker 2: You know, because things like that don't ever really happen,
- 19:22Speaker 2: and so forth to happen and and whatnot.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Looking back on it, like dang, that was kind of.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You don't recognize them. You're in it, you're competing in it,
- 19:30Speaker 1: and then you look back and go, wow, that the
- 19:31Speaker 1: moment was huge.
- 19:32Speaker 3: That was huge. Yeah, it was huge. Like you mentioned earlier,
- 19:35Speaker 3: you have the second most time on the Angels. Is
- 19:37Speaker 3: that weird for you?
- 19:39Speaker 1: Really weird? Actually, you know it's it's.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Because you have a that's a that's a different responsibility.
- 19:44Speaker 2: You know, you're still like growing, ascending in the game yourself, right,
- 19:48Speaker 2: and so now you're kind.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Of responsible for some other people and right, and how
- 19:53Speaker 3: how have you balance that? Well?
- 19:54Speaker 1: It's kind of an interesting thing because you know, when
- 19:56Speaker 1: I came up to the big leagues, it was you know,
- 20:00Speaker 1: there were guys facilitating kind of like what I was
- 20:02Speaker 1: going to do and kind of what my role is
- 20:05Speaker 1: as a younger player. And it's almost like, now that's
- 20:08Speaker 1: kind of my goal is to help facilitate what that
- 20:10Speaker 1: is for some of the younger guys and guys that
- 20:12Speaker 1: are fresh that are coming out to the big leagues
- 20:14Speaker 1: for the first time. So I embrace it.
- 20:17Speaker 3: You know.
- 20:17Speaker 1: My experience when I got caught up was different because
- 20:19Speaker 1: it was during COVID. Yeah, so I got caught up
- 20:21Speaker 1: in twenty twenty, so there was a lot of I
- 20:23Speaker 1: want to say, like kind of like team separation just
- 20:26Speaker 1: because of that time and the aura of it. But
- 20:29Speaker 1: really just my goal is I just want to be
- 20:31Speaker 1: a guy that anybody can come up to, just talk
- 20:35Speaker 1: about anything, just be there, reaching out to everybody, wanting
- 20:39Speaker 1: to kind of create that level of camaraderie within the
- 20:42Speaker 1: young guys. If we can get guys to come up
- 20:45Speaker 1: and you know this, but if we get guys come
- 20:46Speaker 1: up from Triple A and feel like they're still in
- 20:48Speaker 1: Triple A and that comfort level, that's just the better
- 20:52Speaker 1: they're going to play.
- 20:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 20:53Speaker 1: We don't want anybody to make the moment bigger than
- 20:55Speaker 1: what it has to be. It's going to be a
- 20:57Speaker 1: big moment, you know, and it's already big, but we
- 21:00Speaker 1: want them to kind of just be comfortable in who
- 21:01Speaker 1: they are. And I think that that's kind of where
- 21:04Speaker 1: my role is is facilitating that for the guys.
- 21:06Speaker 2: How do you balance you know, teaching and showing the
- 21:09Speaker 2: young guys certain things, but you're also kind of learning
- 21:13Speaker 2: certain things yourself.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I think just kind of ask the questions, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: like if I'm seeing something, just like talk through something
- 21:19Speaker 1: with somebody, I might get something out of it, you know,
- 21:22Speaker 1: by talking through it, if somebody's going through something, or
- 21:24Speaker 1: if I see something. But like I said, I'm learning
- 21:28Speaker 1: from Mike. Mike's learning from other guys too, from different things,
- 21:32Speaker 1: and we kind of just use each other to kind
- 21:34Speaker 1: of just you know, pick each other's brains and kind
- 21:36Speaker 1: of you know, get some info when we can. And really, though,
- 21:41Speaker 1: the guys have been really good about it, Like we
- 21:43Speaker 1: really had like a solid group as far as guys working,
- 21:46Speaker 1: trying to figure things out, trying to learn things, you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: putting new things into play right away. We obviously have
- 21:55Speaker 1: some work to do, but we collectively though like Mike's
- 21:59Speaker 1: done a great job, and you know, I kind of
- 22:01Speaker 1: look to kind of back that up.
- 22:03Speaker 3: What does Mike really mean to you guys?
- 22:05Speaker 2: You know, I mean obviously he's you know, the face
- 22:08Speaker 2: of the Angels, right, I mean, one of the best
- 22:10Speaker 2: players to ever play.
- 22:11Speaker 3: So what is he What does he really mean to
- 22:13Speaker 3: you guys in that clubhouse?
- 22:14Speaker 1: I think for a guy like him, he's a very
- 22:18Speaker 1: you know, follow my lead, watch as I go, and
- 22:21Speaker 1: you know it's important kind of for me to guide
- 22:23Speaker 1: that and say, hey, like if you want to know
- 22:25Speaker 1: what it takes, you know, you need to watch this guy.
- 22:28Speaker 1: You know, you need to come to the cage and
- 22:29Speaker 1: watch him do his early work, you know, watch him
- 22:32Speaker 1: do his work on the field and just kind of
- 22:34Speaker 1: be a fly on the wall to kind of see
- 22:36Speaker 1: what it takes. And the same thing when Show was
- 22:38Speaker 1: here too, is like these guys were just they did
- 22:41Speaker 1: the same thing at the same time every day, you know,
- 22:44Speaker 1: and they were When you commit to something, you commit
- 22:46Speaker 1: to a process and a routine, you find yourself in
- 22:50Speaker 1: a space where you can really you know, you're going
- 22:53Speaker 1: to find that level of consistency. And so, you know,
- 22:56Speaker 1: we don't want guys coming in the cage and one
- 22:57Speaker 1: day they got a toe tap, next day they had
- 22:59Speaker 1: a leg kick. Yeah, you know, next day they're you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: switching bats. We want to show them, hey, this guy
- 23:04Speaker 1: has you know, from Milville, New Jersey, swung the same
- 23:06Speaker 1: bats since he was sixteen years old. It's had the
- 23:09Speaker 1: same swing since he was you know, the same drill routine.
- 23:13Speaker 1: What works works, you are who you are, and so
- 23:15Speaker 1: we want to make sure that we, you know, promote
- 23:18Speaker 1: that and that's what we get.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And it's hard, it's hard when you're especially when you're
- 23:21Speaker 2: going through it, to just stick with the same thing
- 23:24Speaker 2: over and over again, because sometimes that becomes like the
- 23:26Speaker 2: definition of insanity, right, and it's a good thing or
- 23:30Speaker 2: a bad thing, right, because at some point when it's
- 23:32Speaker 2: not working, you would think like, Okay, you can't keep
- 23:35Speaker 2: doing the same thing because it's not working. But also,
- 23:39Speaker 2: on the flip side, you need to keep doing the
- 23:41Speaker 2: same thing because at some point it's going to work.
- 23:44Speaker 2: So it's like that balance of figuring out what works
- 23:47Speaker 2: and then just literally sticking to it no matter what
- 23:51Speaker 2: you're going through.
- 23:51Speaker 3: All right, So I want to go back to young Joe.
- 23:55Speaker 3: Where are you from, bro?
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm originally from Louova, Kentucky. Yeah. So you.
- 24:02Speaker 3: And Smitty?
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, me and Smitty.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a there's an age difference.
- 24:07Speaker 2: So you guys didn't really didn't know each other or
- 24:09Speaker 2: grew up playing against each other.
- 24:10Speaker 1: No, we didn't, but we were both. I was committed
- 24:12Speaker 1: to Louisville, so I would go.
- 24:13Speaker 3: And watch games all the time. So are you about
- 24:15Speaker 3: the same age as Rushing? How old are you?
- 24:18Speaker 1: I'm a couple of years older, I think, or maybe
- 24:20Speaker 1: a year or two older than Russian.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Because I went to school with him.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yes, I think I would have played with him for
- 24:26Speaker 1: probably a year a year at louis or so.
- 24:28Speaker 3: So from Louisville. You know, my family is from Louisville.
- 24:31Speaker 2: My my my whole dad's side of the family is
- 24:34Speaker 2: from Louisville. I used to go, I mean I still do,
- 24:37Speaker 2: but shively, that's where my my grandma. Yeah, she used
- 24:42Speaker 2: to live there. Yeah, she used to live there. I
- 24:44Speaker 2: used to bowl everywhere. Executive Bowl was like a place
- 24:47Speaker 2: I used to go to all the time. No, it's gone,
- 24:50Speaker 2: you know, but yeah, man, little that's crazy. What's crazy
- 24:55Speaker 2: is I used to be scared when I go. I
- 24:57Speaker 2: went to Louisville because my family is older, and so
- 25:01Speaker 2: they would watch First forty eight and like the whole
- 25:03Speaker 2: season of the First forty eight it took place in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 25:07Speaker 2: So I was, so, you grew up played ball in Louisville.
- 25:12Speaker 3: What what? What sports did you play? So?
- 25:14Speaker 1: When I was younger, I had an older sister who
- 25:16Speaker 1: was a better athlete than me by far growing up,
- 25:19Speaker 1: so I basically just followed in her footsteps. If it was,
- 25:21Speaker 1: you know, time for swimming, we swam.
- 25:23Speaker 3: You know.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I played a little bit of soccer, basketball, just everything
- 25:26Speaker 1: when I was younger, but really fell into baseball hard
- 25:28Speaker 1: when I was probably eight or nine and just stuck
- 25:31Speaker 1: all the way through.
- 25:32Speaker 3: So you stopped playing soccer, basketball and everything else.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Yeah, when I was about ten years old, I stopped
- 25:37Speaker 1: and it was just baseball, just basebly.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Full time baseball through high school and that was it.
- 25:43Speaker 3: And used used to pitch, used to pitch.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I was a primary pitcher, so I was a pitcher
- 25:47Speaker 1: before I was a hitter. So Angels actually scouted me
- 25:50Speaker 1: as a pitcher.
- 25:51Speaker 3: Okay, so that how did that? That did that kind
- 25:53Speaker 3: of happen.
- 25:54Speaker 1: I was just wanted. I was had a good arm,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you know, it was one of those guys that could
- 25:57Speaker 1: throw it, you know, throw it hard, and they were like, oh,
- 26:00Speaker 1: we want to you know, we want to take a look.
- 26:02Speaker 1: But I loved hitting, you know, I loved hitting, and
- 26:04Speaker 1: you know, I was playing center field at the time
- 26:06Speaker 1: and loved it, and so.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I just didn't want to pitch it all.
- 26:10Speaker 1: No, I had that itch to pitch, you know what
- 26:12Speaker 1: I mean. I wanted it. You know, every once in
- 26:14Speaker 1: a while, I was like, hey, I wan't want to
- 26:15Speaker 1: get back on the mound. But I stopped after my
- 26:17Speaker 1: junior year of high school pitching. So I pitched all
- 26:20Speaker 1: the way through.
- 26:21Speaker 3: You started, or you you came in and closed, or
- 26:24Speaker 3: you just did whatever.
- 26:25Speaker 1: A little bit of both. So I would start and
- 26:27Speaker 1: then if a couple of days had gone by and
- 26:29Speaker 1: I felt good, I'd come in for relief. But man, like,
- 26:33Speaker 1: my I remember my arm was killing me, just like
- 26:35Speaker 1: I had that like that Terry's miner back here like
- 26:38Speaker 1: behind the shoulder, and I was like, man like, this
- 26:40Speaker 1: is this is tough. At the time hitting, I was
- 26:43Speaker 1: taking like leaps and bounds you know, at the plate
- 26:45Speaker 1: and really really wanted to continue, you know, to swing it.
- 26:48Speaker 1: But but yeah, I miss it. Though sometimes I'm.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Like, pitching, do you like to get back on there
- 26:53Speaker 3: on the mound at all? No?
- 26:55Speaker 1: I don't want somebody to get fired, you know.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Okay, so you got drafted? Was all this to you?
- 27:00Speaker 2: Like, because especially so for me, I'm from Nashville and
- 27:04Speaker 2: didn't do a whole lot of traveling. And when I
- 27:08Speaker 2: first got drafted, I went and that was my first
- 27:10Speaker 2: time really being around like people speaking Spanish, you know,
- 27:14Speaker 2: Dominicans and whatnot, and so it was a super cool
- 27:18Speaker 2: but scary experience because I didn't really fit in there.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I didn't really know, I didn't really have friends or anything.
- 27:25Speaker 2: So how was that for you?
- 27:27Speaker 1: I would definitely say that when I got to Arizona
- 27:29Speaker 1: in the in the Arizona League was definitely a wake
- 27:31Speaker 1: up call for sure. That was definitely. The language barrier
- 27:35Speaker 1: was a lot.
- 27:36Speaker 3: In fact, pig Latin didn't work.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Pig Latin didn't work. It was me talking to myself
- 27:40Speaker 1: at that point in the marriage, you know. But as
- 27:43Speaker 1: I moved up and got into low A and high
- 27:46Speaker 1: and stuff like that, there was a lot of you know,
- 27:48Speaker 1: there was more fifty to fifty and then you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: by that time, the I guess the Spanish speakers were
- 27:54Speaker 1: a little bit more fluent, you know, in English, and
- 27:56Speaker 1: so it was a little better, easier to communicate. But
- 27:58Speaker 1: it taught me that that's just what team is, you
- 28:00Speaker 1: know what I mean that you got to find a
- 28:02Speaker 1: way to communicate with your team, figure out what works
- 28:05Speaker 1: for you. It definitely found my balance. But at first
- 28:09Speaker 1: I was like, wow, and I make a mistake, you
- 28:10Speaker 1: know what I mean, the wrong clubhouse, you know.
- 28:13Speaker 2: So okay, So then debut and during COVID was that
- 28:17Speaker 2: tough for you?
- 28:17Speaker 1: Or?
- 28:18Speaker 2: I mean obviously you know, you didn't have fans or
- 28:20Speaker 2: anything and whatnot, So how was that for you?
- 28:23Speaker 1: It was tough? Man, I'm not gonna lie because we
- 28:25Speaker 1: played there were no official games. My first official game
- 28:29Speaker 1: was in the big leagues, you know, because we had
- 28:31Speaker 1: the alternate site going on in twenty twenty. So it
- 28:35Speaker 1: was basically just inner squads. We were facing like old
- 28:38Speaker 1: teammates from last year, and then we had the spit
- 28:41Speaker 1: tasts and guys that didn't pass they had to go home.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And so there were days where we had coaches play
- 28:47Speaker 1: in the field oh wow, during intersquad games and we
- 28:50Speaker 1: were trying to take them serious. And it was like
- 28:52Speaker 1: I got my first base coach at shortstop, yeah, you
- 28:54Speaker 1: know what I mean, and the pitching coaches, the umpire,
- 28:57Speaker 1: that type of situation. And then in August I got
- 29:01Speaker 1: called up, so I was flew into Seattle and played
- 29:05Speaker 1: and that was just that was a wake up call
- 29:07Speaker 1: for sure. It was like, wow, you know what I mean,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I'm in the big leagues and running out there. We
- 29:11Speaker 1: got Albert Poohols at first and running out there with
- 29:14Speaker 1: Mike and center. I mean, it was like and this
- 29:17Speaker 1: is your first game.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Of the year, you know what I mean.
- 29:18Speaker 1: So but it was a big Leagues and like, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 1: we soaked up the experience. You know, I was glad
- 29:24Speaker 1: that it was a sixty game sprint for sure, absolutely,
- 29:26Speaker 1: but just glad to be out there and to have
- 29:29Speaker 1: been a part of it, for sure.
- 29:30Speaker 3: What was it like when you played your first game
- 29:33Speaker 3: with fans, Well, it was actually the crazy thing was
- 29:39Speaker 3: they eased are their way back in, right they did.
- 29:41Speaker 1: It was It was kind of interesting because I debuted
- 29:45Speaker 1: with fans in twenty one after I got called back
- 29:47Speaker 1: up kind of halfway through the year, so I'd already
- 29:50Speaker 1: kind of had the experience of like some fans being
- 29:52Speaker 1: the stands, but not in the big leagues, right, And
- 29:54Speaker 1: then I came back up in twenty one in Texas
- 29:58Speaker 1: and we had fans, and you know, it was a
- 30:00Speaker 1: good game that I came back up, and so it
- 30:02Speaker 1: was a little interesting, but it was like a long
- 30:04Speaker 1: time awaiting, you know, it felt like I actually debuted.
- 30:07Speaker 3: In twenty one.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember, I remember and not playing, and you
- 30:13Speaker 2: remember they they made a bunch of signs and stuff
- 30:15Speaker 2: they put in the outfield. I don't know if they
- 30:17Speaker 2: did it with you guys, but for us, they made
- 30:19Speaker 2: signs of like fake fans and uh.
- 30:22Speaker 3: And I remember.
- 30:23Speaker 2: As as the season went on, when they slowly started
- 30:26Speaker 2: to add fans and I think it may have been
- 30:28Speaker 2: during the playoffs.
- 30:29Speaker 3: It was like a different adrenaline. It was a beautiful thing.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Oh there's like twenty then seventy five percent, then full
- 30:36Speaker 2: or whatever. So how was that for you? Like when
- 30:38Speaker 2: fans started to come up, did you feel different.
- 30:41Speaker 1: It's definitely an important factor, that little pap in your
- 30:43Speaker 1: stuff that you get when you know that people out
- 30:45Speaker 1: there and they're coming to see something. I think, you know,
- 30:48Speaker 1: originally it was like I was in a simulation. Okay,
- 30:51Speaker 1: just at the beginning, because it was like cardboard cutouts
- 30:54Speaker 1: and then MLB the show music. It was like is
- 30:57Speaker 1: this like is this real? Or is this me doing
- 30:59Speaker 1: something in my backyard? You know, I didn't feel like
- 31:01Speaker 1: the you know, the real thing and the obviously you're
- 31:02Speaker 1: facing the competition, this is the real thing. But but yeah,
- 31:06Speaker 1: once fans started to come back in, you started to
- 31:08Speaker 1: feel it started to feel like how I envisioned the
- 31:11Speaker 1: big leagues to be when I thought about what my
- 31:14Speaker 1: debut would be and thought about playing every day and so.
- 31:16Speaker 1: But getting through that though, that was I was a
- 31:19Speaker 1: learning lesson I think for everybody, just just a crazy experience.
- 31:23Speaker 1: But really, once twenty one hit, I was pretty excited
- 31:27Speaker 1: to kind of get out there and get gone.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Now I do have a question, why do you wear
- 31:32Speaker 3: a glove under your glove?
- 31:34Speaker 1: You know, it's crazy. So I didn't for a while,
- 31:38Speaker 1: but it became a superstition because the game that I
- 31:40Speaker 1: robbed three homers, I had a batting glove under glove. Yeah,
- 31:45Speaker 1: but I don't know why, but I just happened to
- 31:47Speaker 1: have one. And so now, but you put your glove on.
- 31:50Speaker 2: So when you put your glove on, you knew that
- 31:53Speaker 2: there was a batting glove on, so you just disregarded it.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Well, I think it was one of those things where
- 31:58Speaker 1: I just didn't take it off and it just happened
- 32:00Speaker 1: to be on while I was out there. So I
- 32:02Speaker 1: was like, you know what, like it seems to work.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna gonna leave it on.
- 32:07Speaker 3: And now it's now.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Now it's now. It's like putting your socks on. Now
- 32:11Speaker 1: you just see you gotta do it, you know.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Now, Now, Joe Odell, you're strapping that glove on and then.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm the badom glove. It's tight. I'm strapping that
- 32:20Speaker 1: thing on.
- 32:20Speaker 2: There's no there's something the same bed and glove you
- 32:22Speaker 2: hit with yes, So that's.
- 32:24Speaker 1: It doesn't come off. It doesn't come off.
- 32:27Speaker 3: So what happens if you like, when it's hot and
- 32:29Speaker 3: it gets sweaty and everything.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Then you just it is what it is, you know.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Then you just you just got to grind through it,
- 32:34Speaker 1: you know, superstits.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Wow, there's no I mean, I wear a glove under
- 32:39Speaker 2: my glove when it's cold. But I feel like it's
- 32:43Speaker 2: just a lot, you know, to wear the glove and
- 32:45Speaker 2: it's hot and it gets sweaty, and then when he
- 32:48Speaker 2: gets sweaty.
- 32:48Speaker 1: How are you gonna hold onto the bat pine tar?
- 32:50Speaker 1: I guess well I used the little the lizard skin.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Uh.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I use the skin too, and with a little bit
- 32:56Speaker 1: of a little bit of tar on there.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Okay, okay, but no, so.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Do you keep an extra pair close just in case
- 33:02Speaker 2: it you know, No, you're just rocking that glove no
- 33:05Speaker 2: matter what.
- 33:05Speaker 1: No, no, no, I got an extra pair and it gets
- 33:07Speaker 1: if it gets bad, you know, if it's if I
- 33:09Speaker 1: start slipping, because I'll let go of the bat and
- 33:11Speaker 1: throw in the second dive, you know.
- 33:12Speaker 3: So that's when that's when you got to switch close.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I got to switch it out. But I'm for sure
- 33:17Speaker 1: putting that battle glove on and going out there. Actually,
- 33:19Speaker 1: I've grown to like the field, you know, I love it.
- 33:22Speaker 1: I feel like I'm really locked in there.
- 33:23Speaker 3: So I feel like Jeter did it right. He had
- 33:25Speaker 3: a bet and glove under his glab. I see, yeah, yeah,
- 33:27Speaker 3: something to think about there it is.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I'm not doing it, but I think it may be
- 33:30Speaker 2: uh based something neat. Okay, So I want to before
- 33:35Speaker 2: we close, I got a couple of things. I want
- 33:37Speaker 2: to build a perfect all l A player. All right,
- 33:41Speaker 2: So we got the power of the contact, the IQ,
- 33:44Speaker 2: the field, the speed, those are the you know, the
- 33:47Speaker 2: five things, and then the last but not least, the
- 33:50Speaker 2: swag all l A players. So he's got to be
- 33:53Speaker 2: on the Angels or the Dodgers.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Okay, All l A.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Okay, power.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Power. There's only two people. There's only two people.
- 34:08Speaker 1: You have to choose, right, showtime.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Okay, there you go, Okay, Contact.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Contact Damn. I'm trying to think who would contact contact?
- 34:24Speaker 1: You know what I'm gonna I'm gonna choose one of
- 34:27Speaker 1: my buddies. I'm gonna go Knowlan Shaunawll.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Shaana Will.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Okay, so we got show Hayes power with Shaana well's contact.
- 34:34Speaker 1: What about IQ, I'm gonna go Mike Trout.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Trout's IQ.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Okay. I like how this is shaping up fielding, fielding. See,
- 34:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna go you milk oh nice? Okay, okay, so
- 34:53Speaker 2: fielding okay? What about speed.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Speed?
- 35:01Speaker 1: I was gonna say a player, I've already said, I
- 35:03Speaker 1: mean you still can you still can? I mean, show
- 35:09Speaker 1: can move?
- 35:09Speaker 3: Man shows really fast.
- 35:11Speaker 1: He can move, and it's sneaky, sneaky. He's really fast,
- 35:14Speaker 1: sneaky fast.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I may, I may would go Kim though, I signed
- 35:18Speaker 2: Kim he can move too.
- 35:19Speaker 3: He's yeah.
- 35:20Speaker 1: They both like, yeah, he just stritted out. You don't
- 35:24Speaker 1: recognize how fast he's going. Let's go Kim though, Kim.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I saw him yesterday and he was scooting a little bit.
- 35:29Speaker 3: Yeah he runs. And what about the swag? Now we
- 35:31Speaker 3: got the swag?
- 35:32Speaker 2: I mean you wear a glove under your gloves, so
- 35:34Speaker 2: you got all types of I'm going And before we close,
- 35:41Speaker 2: I do I do a lot of these shows on
- 35:44Speaker 2: the road, and uh, I wanted to try some ain'tel
- 35:48Speaker 2: stadium food. And we have a I think we have
- 35:52Speaker 2: a Korean hot corn dog. I'm not a corn dog guy.
- 35:55Speaker 2: You a corn dog guy?
- 35:56Speaker 1: You know what? You know what I will? I can
- 35:59Speaker 1: do it, But are corn doll? I never had it?
- 36:01Speaker 1: I never had that. So we're gonna we're gonna test
- 36:03Speaker 1: it out and see what we got. Okay, are those
- 36:08Speaker 1: fries on it? I have no idea. They didn't walk
- 36:11Speaker 1: me through the menu.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Potatoes on the outside with the corn dog on the inside.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I'm scared you need any condiments or anything? Are you
- 36:20Speaker 2: just gonna raw?
- 36:21Speaker 1: Do you know? I'm just going I'm not a big
- 36:22Speaker 1: condiment guy. I don't I don't love when they loaded
- 36:25Speaker 1: down with everything. I don't love it.
- 36:26Speaker 3: All right, all right? M hm hm hm. Whosigg than expected?
- 36:37Speaker 1: That's flavor to it.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I wonder where the Korean park comes from though.
- 36:41Speaker 1: To well, it's like a kind of like a full
- 36:43Speaker 1: like bun, like a sandwich.
- 36:45Speaker 3: What do you want to rate it?
- 36:47Speaker 1: That's like a that's a pretty upscale corn dog. That's
- 36:50Speaker 1: not like your normal concession corn do? I probably give
- 36:53Speaker 1: it probably eight?
- 36:54Speaker 3: I was gonna say like a seven or eight? Yeah?
- 36:56Speaker 4: I like that, all right? Angel Stadium? All right, well
- 37:00Speaker 4: I'll give you guys. He gives you an eight, I'm
- 37:04Speaker 4: giving you seven. But it's still good. So anyways, Joe, thanks.
- 37:08Speaker 3: For coming on. Man.
- 37:11Speaker 2: You know it's been it's been dope to kind of
- 37:12Speaker 2: see where you started. To see there's just big long
- 37:16Speaker 2: kid that didn't really know how to play baseball yet
- 37:20Speaker 2: you could tell like he's super talented, but he's got
- 37:22Speaker 2: to figure out how to how to get it all together.
- 37:25Speaker 2: And I remember talking to Chili because Chili was it
- 37:28Speaker 2: wasn't Chili Chili, Yeah, And he was like, man, Joe,
- 37:33Speaker 2: he's the next guy. He's the next guy. And I'm like, Chili,
- 37:37Speaker 2: what are you talking about. I don't even know who
- 37:38Speaker 2: Joe is. And then here you come up, and I
- 37:43Speaker 2: see where your swings started and where your game started.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Really and now to see where you are now, it's
- 37:48Speaker 2: super dope, bro, and uh and especially be a brother
- 37:51Speaker 2: in the game as well. So keep on doing a yourthing, man,
- 37:54Speaker 2: and we got a long time together.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 37:57Speaker 3: Movie.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Thanks for coming on, yes, sir, And that's a rap.
