Latest / The Slippery Slope / Steven Miles knows climate change is coming for Queensland
Transcript
- 0:12Hi, I'm Jake Fallon. Thank you for listening to the
- 0:14slippery slope. Look, I wasn't going to do
- 0:16another episode this year. It's going to break in between
- 0:19Christmas and New Year's, obviously.
- 0:22However, I'd seen this article. Few things coming out thought,
- 0:25wow, we have to do at least bring your attention to what's
- 0:29what's happening now. I'm not a prophet, I'm not the
- 0:32son of a prophet. But I think 2024 is shaping up
- 0:36to be a year of natural disasters.
- 0:41That's just my opinion. And I think we have had the
- 0:45premiere for Queensland. We have been given.
- 0:49He's been placed, put it that way, placed into office because
- 0:56other people can see that these things are going to happen.
- 0:58And he is the climate change activists of that, that other
- 1:07people have decided we needed this headline here that I'm
- 1:11going to read to you. The story says my job to
- 1:15convince them. Stephen Miles knows climate
- 1:18change is coming for Queensland now.
- 1:23We've already had this cyclone Jasper just in the last week
- 1:28caused absolute havoc through far North Queensland.
- 1:31The flooding in that from Cairns and upwards has just been
- 1:33phenomenal, the amount of rain that's come through.
- 1:36So and obviously Stephen Miles was already very deep into the
- 1:41climate change ideology, a a follower, a follower of the Al
- 1:48Gore, the one and only Al Gore. Climate change has been his
- 1:52thing. And as soon as I saw him come in
- 1:54and he made a few announcements at the very start I thought this
- 1:58fella is going to be some trouble.
- 2:00And I reckon he might be placed there by the powers that be that
- 2:05wants someone like him like he's from his ilk in government of
- 2:12this running the government of our state.
- 2:15So I'll read through a bit of the stories, bring it up so you
- 2:17can follow along, and I'll tell you what, it's very concerning
- 2:21and I think it just reads out of the OR the playbook of the WEF,
- 2:26To be honest. Miles had already set out to
- 2:29make climate change one of the themes of his first week in
- 2:32office. Remember, he's only been in for
- 2:33what, two weeks now? Even before X tropical cyclone
- 2:37Jasper flooded the state's north to Friday's running, The student
- 2:41of Al Gore has rolled out major green announcements, doubling
- 2:45the state's emissions reduction target to 75% by 2035 in his
- 2:51first announcement as premier in banning banning new gas
- 2:56developments from the state's far western river systems.
- 2:59And election promised dating to 2015.
- 3:03Banning. We've already got energy issues
- 3:07and these people want to make it harder for us, harder for
- 3:13cooking, harder for heating. Ha crocky.
- 3:16Miles is eager to build a consensus around the economics
- 3:19of the transition. A link between city and Bush,
- 3:22right and left. The stakes are high for the
- 3:24transition in Queensland which has among the world's most
- 3:27carbon dependent economies, according to Gavin Mcfadzin.
- 3:31Now remember carbon. That's the big baddie In all
- 3:34this situation. Carbon's going to kill us all,
- 3:36apparently, if you believe the ideology.
- 3:39So he's a Gavin Mcfadson, a program manager at the at the
- 3:43Conservation Council. The coal industry was worth more
- 3:47than 15 billion to the state budget last financial year,
- 3:51partly as a result of royalties. Royalties hikes legislated under
- 3:55the former premier, Anastasia Palache.
- 3:57QLD also has the nation's second highest proportion of residents
- 4:01living in regional areas, behind Tasmania.
- 4:04Federal Labor holds no seats outside SE Queensland state
- 4:09Labor repeatedly won elections by appealing to the regions,
- 4:12including mining communities like Gladstone.
- 4:15Miles hopes he has found the answer.
- 4:18It's my job to convince people that addressing climate change
- 4:21isn't a threat to jobs. It's actually a way to protect
- 4:24jobs, he says. If you look at the high emitting
- 4:27industries in places like Glasson and Townsville, they're
- 4:30going to lose their global customers if they continue to be
- 4:35reliant on such high levels of fossil fuel energy.
- 4:40The problem is they're not going to lose their global customers
- 4:43because the global customers, especially for the coal
- 4:45industry, is China. They're not changing.
- 4:48They don't give a sorry, they don't give a damn about climate
- 4:51change. Supposedly climate change
- 4:53because they know it's not real. But the Chinese Communist Party
- 4:56are not going to stop buying coal in India.
- 5:01These two countries, major, major, major countries, are not
- 5:06going to stop their demand for coal.
- 5:09The only way that's going to happen is if government starts
- 5:13to interfere. People like Steven Miles out
- 5:16there championing the ideology for climate change.
- 5:22Look, let's continue on with what else he's saying.
- 5:26I think this is the whole reason why he's been placed into
- 5:30office. I think he's been placed in.
- 5:32So the best way we can protect those jobs is by providing them
- 5:37with renewable energy so that they can sell their products
- 5:39into markets that increasingly want green aluminium, green
- 5:43steel, green products. And similarly, if we get it
- 5:45right, we can also attract new industries.
- 5:48In the past that we're attracted, they were attracted
- 5:51to our cheap plentiful coal, sorry plentiful fossil fuel
- 5:55based energy. In the future we will have
- 5:57cheap, plentiful firmed renewable energy with an
- 6:02election less than a year away. The minerals industry, which is
- 6:05already running ads complaining of coal royalty increases, was
- 6:09further angered by the weeks by this announcement that they made
- 6:13about that he's already made when he came into office.
- 6:15A spokesman for Santos says the company has operated sustainably
- 6:19and safely in the rivers and flood plains of the basins for
- 6:22around 55 years. This decision was made with
- 6:25little regard to science and evidence or the contribution of
- 6:29the gas industry in southwest Queensland to regional jobs.
- 6:32But this is the problem with the climate activists.
- 6:35They don't care about actual science or actual evidence.
- 6:39It's all alarmist. It's all selling their ideology
- 6:44because they're going to be able to use that ideology, that fear
- 6:48mongering, to control the masses.
- 6:51If you don't change, if you don't do what they want, you're
- 6:54going to die. You must cut your carbon.
- 6:57You must stop driving around your diesel trucks.
- 7:00You must buy an electric vehicle because then they can control
- 7:05when and where you can charge your vehicle and how often you
- 7:08can drive it. And and they can also stop the
- 7:12car if they feel the need. If you don't believe me I've
- 7:16already done a couple of podcasts about what's happening
- 7:18in in the UK this is the exact legislation they brought brought
- 7:22in in London. They want they they can control
- 7:27when you can charge your vehicle and they can actually switch off
- 7:31the charging if they deem it necessary.
- 7:34The government this is, this is coming everywhere and here we
- 7:38just see it coming to Australia, to Queensland.
- 7:43So anyway, the Queensland Resources Council describes the
- 7:47decision as short sighted. McFadden believes the industry
- 7:50has even more to lose from the new emissions reduction targets.
- 7:54It sounds the death, death knell for domestic energy from coal
- 7:59and gas, domestic energy. This is the problem, isn't it?
- 8:04We already have. We already have energy issues.
- 8:08We're in a nation that should not have any kind of energy
- 8:11issues. We're having energy issues.
- 8:14That's crazy. And they want us.
- 8:17They want us to buy electric vehicles, but they want to cut
- 8:20back the products we use to create electricity and new
- 8:27houses that they want us to stop using gas for our cooking
- 8:31facilities. When they're building new
- 8:32houses, it's all going to run electricity because they can
- 8:35control you. They can control the electricity
- 8:38grid. If they control the electricity
- 8:41grid, they can control you. This is what it's all about.
- 8:45But Mars is adamant he hasn't promised an imminent switch away
- 8:49from fossil fuels. The Cat Eye, Thunder Lake Air
- 8:53and New gas band was about protecting one particular area
- 8:57rather than setting a cap on gas, he says.
- 9:01For fossil fuel generation, we have a plan for an orderly
- 9:05transition of our workforces into clean energy jobs.
- 9:09They've decided this is what they've decided and you have to
- 9:12do it for extraction. There will continue to be a
- 9:16demand, particularly for cooking coal and gas going forward.
- 9:19That's most of our resources. Industry Miles has about 300
- 9:23days before the next election to convince Queenslanders he is
- 9:26right about the path to transition.
- 9:29While historically, while historically, debate in
- 9:32Queensland is focused on the risks of moving too fast, this
- 9:35week may have provided A timely reminder of the danger of moving
- 9:39too slowly. Because Miles says it's hard to
- 9:42blame a single event on climate change.
- 9:45A single event because none of it is actually climate change.
- 9:48You know the reason why? That the reason why the verse
- 9:53was written. You know, I love a sunburned
- 9:54country, and it talks about a land of floods with fires, of
- 10:00extreme heats and cold, because that's the way this nation's
- 10:04always been. It's just called weather.
- 10:08Anyway, keep going. So he says this.
- 10:11It's hard to blame a single event on climate change because
- 10:14climate change, it's an ideology, it's a religion.
- 10:19It's not. Anyway, I'll leave it that kind
- 10:22of causation to the scientists but the but the increased heat
- 10:26in the Earth's atmosphere poses salient risks for QLD.
- 10:31There is no doubt that Queensland has always been the
- 10:33most disaster prone place in the country, one of the most
- 10:36disaster prone first world places in the world, Miles says.
- 10:40And that's going to get worse I believe.
- 10:44Like I said, I believe Miles has been placed in here to really
- 10:50ramp up the fear in Queenslanders.
- 10:53Just another leader placed by the likes of Klaus Al Gore to
- 11:01ramp up the fear for Queenslanders and to force us
- 11:05into into a place where you have to go along with the climate
- 11:09change ideology or you get left behind.
- 11:13And even though you can see it's not good for the country, it's
- 11:15not good for individuals and it's making us, it'll make us
- 11:19poorer, it'll put us behind other nations that will still
- 11:23force us to do it. And I think we're going to see
- 11:26more and more bad, extreme weather in 2024 and it's going
- 11:31to continually be continually be blamed on climate change.
- 11:35And Miles is just going to force us down this road, whether we
- 11:38like it or not. Yet we have an election in about
- 11:42300 days or so. So you know what we need to do.
- 11:46Labour needs to go Miles is a plan for the WEF.
- 11:51Is he? Maybe.
- 11:53I don't know. Seems very strange.
- 11:56Anyway, all I can say is the Bible already tells me how the
- 12:00world's going to end, and it's not going to be because of
- 12:02climate change. I'll tell you that much.
- 12:05That's just my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 12:07slippery slope, ladies.
