The future of public transport ticketing in Ireland is here — but not yet everywhere. The NTA’s ambitious “next-gen” contactless system, designed to eventually replace the Leap Card, is rolling out in phases starting with a small 2027 test in Dublin. Phase One: under 100 validators on buses, trams, and trains. Phase Two: over 2,000 bus and 400 tram validators. Phase Three: Irish Rail integration with multi-modal fares.
