- 0:01Speaker 1: Happy Friday, speaking of something that's been around for thousands
- 0:04Speaker 1: of years. I just finished reading an article in the
- 0:06Speaker 1: New York Times that they did a deep dive about
- 0:10Speaker 1: Islama for what they call islama phobia's rise in Texas.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And then the article is all about how Muslim communities
- 0:20Speaker 1: have been growing in Texas for decades now. Conservatives essentially
- 0:24Speaker 1: want to roll up the welcome that this is a
- 0:27Speaker 1: tough issue. This is a real tough one, and I
- 0:29Speaker 1: think you and I both approach this with the proper
- 0:32Speaker 1: amount of caution and discernment that must be used, because
- 0:37Speaker 1: you know, it starts with a debate about whether Islam
- 0:40Speaker 1: is even a religion. And look, the Justice Department has said, look,
- 0:44Speaker 1: it isn't. Plainly it's a religion. It is absolute. But
- 0:47Speaker 1: you're going to get pushback on that, and I will too.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I believe that, and I agree with you. But there
- 0:52Speaker 1: are people who are going to say, no, it's not. No,
- 0:54Speaker 1: it's not it's an ideology.
- 0:56Speaker 2: It is in a way a political filosophy, which guess
- 1:01Speaker 2: what it is, which it absolutely is two things ruture
- 1:04Speaker 2: at the same time. I mean, the definition of a
- 1:06Speaker 2: religion is having thoughts about our creation thoughts about the afterlife,
- 1:09Speaker 2: guidance on how to live your life. Of course, it's
- 1:11Speaker 2: a religion, but it has a political, secular, political element,
- 1:16Speaker 2: if you want to call it. That's the one that
- 1:18Speaker 2: everybody's all concerned.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Okay, So with that in mind, what do we do
- 1:23Speaker 1: with the expansion of mosques and communities?
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know?
- 1:26Speaker 1: And the New York Times puts it in perspective, and
- 1:28Speaker 1: of course you got to take this with a grain
- 1:29Speaker 1: of salt. It's the New York Times, so I get it.
- 1:31Speaker 1: They've got an agenda. But their point, basically is what
- 1:35Speaker 1: are you supposed to do with the thousands of men,
- 1:37Speaker 1: women and children who practice and that particular faith. They
- 1:43Speaker 1: quoted one statewide Republican candidate Bo French, who wrote on
- 1:47Speaker 1: social media this summer, I won't rest until every Muslim
- 1:51Speaker 1: is gone. Well that's not particularly helpful, it seems to me.
- 1:56Speaker 1: On the other hand, you got these massive compounds, what
- 2:00Speaker 1: was it epic city? Yep, that I mean, and it's
- 2:04Speaker 1: and it's a it's a battlefield right now. It's a
- 2:06Speaker 1: it's a real real interesting uh peace. And I don't
- 2:10Speaker 1: know for people who say, well, it's an invasion and look,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I'm concerned. I've seen the video from Dearborn, Michigan. I've
- 2:18Speaker 1: seen what it looks like. In parts of the UK,
- 2:20Speaker 1: there are communities that are essentially have been sort of commandeered.
- 2:25Speaker 2: We're lost, they are lost. Well, what this is? What
- 2:30Speaker 2: Islamic culture does? It arrives and it spreads and it
- 2:33Speaker 2: takes over, and Texas is saying, hell, no, Well.
- 2:37Speaker 1: What do you do about it? But how do you
- 2:38Speaker 1: how do you keep prevent a takeover?
- 2:41Speaker 2: How do you do that lawfully?
- 2:42Speaker 1: How do you know what? I mean?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Exactly the right question? I don't know who I had
- 2:46Speaker 2: Congressman Keith self famously a few days ago, because you know,
- 2:50Speaker 2: I'm sitting there thinking, as we're talking about this, or
- 2:53Speaker 2: are we at the point where a moss band is
- 2:55Speaker 2: on the table and you've had some good thoughts about
- 2:57Speaker 2: whether you want to float that weeks before the mid terms,
- 3:00Speaker 2: whether that wins you over independence or is it just
- 3:03Speaker 2: something that is a survival tactic. And I asked him,
- 3:05Speaker 2: I said, can you imagine, with the views that you
- 3:08Speaker 2: have about the dangers that Islamism poses and the inability
- 3:12Speaker 2: to tell the good ones from the bad ones? Pardon
- 3:14Speaker 2: that usage, can you envision a new mosque application that
- 3:18Speaker 2: you think is okay, And he said I cannot.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Well, okay, Well that's a mosque band, So that's a
- 3:24Speaker 1: mosque ban that's essentially banning any additional mosques. So then
- 3:29Speaker 1: I'm back to or where do all these people worship?
- 3:33Speaker 1: How can you deprive somebody of a right to have
- 3:35Speaker 1: a house of worship? You're going to do that to
- 3:37Speaker 1: a Christian. You're going to do that to a Jew?
- 3:39Speaker 1: You can you know that's a false equivalency. Well, why
- 3:42Speaker 1: do you keep saying that because Christians are trying to
- 3:46Speaker 1: kill us? It isn't a But tell that to a
- 3:49Speaker 1: Muslim family who's not trying to kill us, and that's
- 3:52Speaker 1: not fair. No, you're the one that took a while
- 3:58Speaker 1: to arrive. You sit here, the Jews of the grid.
- 4:02Speaker 1: There is no other religion with a track record of death.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And there is no other there's no comparison that can
- 4:09Speaker 2: be made. However, but if.
- 4:12Speaker 1: You agree that Islam is a religion and you're in
- 4:15Speaker 1: the business of banning houses of worship for that religion,
- 4:19Speaker 1: that's a problem because again, imagine the outrage of somebody
- 4:23Speaker 1: declared war on Christianity in some community and said we're
- 4:26Speaker 1: not gonna let.
- 4:27Speaker 2: You have a church. Correct, even though that is different,
- 4:29Speaker 2: your point still stands completely. And that's where they get
- 4:32Speaker 2: to and it does, and that's where we get to, Okay,
- 4:35Speaker 2: what kind of constitutional protection is there, and when we're
- 4:38Speaker 2: not talking about anybody not being able to worship as
- 4:41Speaker 2: they wish or whatever whatever. But the Koran is tricky.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It does say kill the infidels. The Koran is tricky.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It does contain honor killings. The Koran is tricky. So
- 4:49Speaker 2: the Muslims who don't want to kill us in, the
- 4:51Speaker 2: Muslims who aren't going to do honor killings, and the
- 4:52Speaker 2: Muslims whon't want to take over our culture are kind
- 4:55Speaker 2: of practicing a light, lucy, goosey Swiss cheese brand of Islam,
- 5:01Speaker 2: which happens all the time.
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean, look at look at the ongoing dialogue I've
- 5:06Speaker 1: had for years, including my friend Dennis Prager, when we
- 5:09Speaker 1: wonder why are American Jews voting for you know, complete
- 5:15Speaker 1: anti semi lunatics. Yep, because many American Jews are not
- 5:20Speaker 1: particularly good Jews, to use a clumsy expression, they're not well,
- 5:27Speaker 1: they're secular. They're secular, you know, they're not particular Orthodox
- 5:31Speaker 1: Jews don't support this lunacy on the far left. Religious
- 5:35Speaker 1: Jews are absolutely mortified at the direction of the Democrat Party,
- 5:39Speaker 1: but you know, secular Jews not so much. I don't
- 5:43Speaker 1: really care about my Judaism that much. So that's kind
- 5:45Speaker 1: of what you're saying about the islam faith that that
- 5:48Speaker 1: people who are maybe not particularly because look, I saw
- 5:51Speaker 1: pictures in this article as an extensive article, and it's
- 5:55Speaker 1: a it's worth a read. It's like five different columnists
- 5:58Speaker 1: put it together. Writers Islamophobia's rise in Texas. They profile
- 6:03Speaker 1: a guy named Gulam Kahar from Irving. He rose before
- 6:07Speaker 1: dawn in early June to attend the day's first prayer
- 6:10Speaker 1: at his local mosque and Irving before heading off for
- 6:13Speaker 1: a month's long deployment in the US Coast Guard, he
- 6:17Speaker 1: had been So here you go. He's got a guy
- 6:19Speaker 1: serving his country. He's in the Coast Guard, and he's
- 6:21Speaker 1: worried about leaving his family behind because what he feels
- 6:24Speaker 1: is the rise of Islamophobia in Irving, and for Muslims
- 6:29Speaker 1: coming to Texas, that's the promised land, better jobs, good lifestyle,
- 6:35Speaker 1: quality of life. We're in an open welcoming attitude towards
- 6:40Speaker 1: their beliefs until now you know, now it's like, wait
- 6:45Speaker 1: a minute, we're going to put the brakes on this.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You got Abbot who's pushing back, and a Republican consultant said, well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: the reason Abbot's pushing back is he doesn't do anything
- 6:53Speaker 1: that is holling driven. He always does things based on
- 6:57Speaker 1: polls and it's popular right now, I guess to push
- 7:00Speaker 1: back against this whole so called invasion, and.
- 7:03Speaker 2: It's a and with good reason, it's possible with God.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And yet you are one hundred percent solid on what
- 7:09Speaker 2: can we do, what would what, what's going to hold
- 7:12Speaker 2: up in the courts, what seems reasonable to a reasonable person.
- 7:16Speaker 2: So I don't know this going anywhere, So well, welcome
- 7:19Speaker 2: to you know, the continuing debate with this, for it's
- 7:23Speaker 2: a great debate.
- 7:23Speaker 1: By the way, I want to preview today's podcast because
- 7:26Speaker 1: I think we're going to probably get kind of personal.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I know you want to do education Friday, and our
- 7:31Speaker 1: podcast continues to grow every day, and we appreciate you
- 7:34Speaker 1: tuning in Apple, Spotify, YouTube, wherever to get your podcasts.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We want you to make the M and M extra
- 7:40Speaker 1: part of your podcast experience every day and you want
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I'm intrigued by this. I'm worried about it because,
- 7:46Speaker 1: as I've shared with you, for me childhood, grade school,
- 7:50Speaker 1: junior high, high school, here's some tough things in my
- 7:53Speaker 1: life that that this brings up. But I think it's
- 7:56Speaker 1: worth getting out on the table. And I've noticed that
- 7:58Speaker 1: I'm feeling a little more open and I'm willing to
- 8:02Speaker 1: open up more on the podcast than I am on
- 8:04Speaker 1: the talk show or even the M and M experience.
- 8:06Speaker 2: That you and I know what the word is. So
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know what the characteristic is, because it is we've
- 8:10Speaker 2: done some special Even on the average episodes where we're
- 8:12Speaker 2: just doing stuff in the news, we'll head down a
- 8:14Speaker 2: rabbit hole, you think, into various things. There is something
- 8:17Speaker 2: about even though I'm sitting in this chair and you're
- 8:19Speaker 2: sitting in that one, we just sort of changed the
- 8:21Speaker 2: backgrounds behind our heads. There is something. Here's the adjective.
- 8:25Speaker 2: You know what the adjective is intimate. There is something
- 8:27Speaker 2: more intimate and personal I feel right now you listen,
- 8:30Speaker 2: this is plenty intimate. We do all kinds of sharing
- 8:32Speaker 2: here on the radio. It's hopefully part of our charm.
- 8:35Speaker 2: But once you know, it's the commercial breaks aren't hanging
- 8:39Speaker 2: there in radio form and I'm not looking at the clock.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It's and I we're very aware of an audience, but
- 8:46Speaker 2: it just feels like it's you talking to me and
- 8:47Speaker 2: me talking to you. And there's there's sharing on top
- 8:50Speaker 2: of sharing, and I really look forward to that today.
- 8:52Speaker 2: So thank you. Check it out.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Check it out today noon eastern eleventh Central on YouTube
- 8:56Speaker 1: Live and then wherever you get your podcast all day long.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I think you're going to really appreciate the eminem extra
- 9:01Speaker 1: on education and the state of education in America and
- 9:04Speaker 1: where Mark and I sort of, you know, cut our
- 9:08Speaker 1: teeth in school and got going in the in the
- 9:11Speaker 1: early going.
- 9:12Speaker 2: School in the sixties and seventies. It's boomers school stories.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You will love them just and I think I'll bring
- 9:18Speaker 1: up one of my favorite early books about Catholicism, which
- 9:21Speaker 1: is how I was raised. Do black patent leather shoes
- 9:26Speaker 1: really reflect up? Every Catholic knows that book. So I'll
- 9:32Speaker 1: tell you about that. By the way, before we get
- 9:34Speaker 1: out of here. On a Friday, how about the revelation
- 9:37Speaker 1: that Carmelo Anthony's ex girlfriend had all kinds of knowledge
- 9:43Speaker 1: about his threatening violent texts. He wanted to stab someone.
- 9:48Speaker 1: This is before he killed Austin Metcalf. He wanted to
- 9:51Speaker 1: lick the blood off of the knife after he stabbed someone.
- 9:55Speaker 1: And they had some kind of weird gentleman's agreement between
- 9:59Speaker 1: the defense and the prosecution.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I think they both realized that if a harsh light
- 10:04Speaker 2: came down onto both of them. Because there's some salt
- 10:07Speaker 2: that came out about Austin too, you know, when some
- 10:09Speaker 2: attitudinal stuff, some really all that stuff. But and I'm
- 10:12Speaker 2: not saying and one of these things is not like
- 10:15Speaker 2: the other. One of them is a defendant charged with murder,
- 10:18Speaker 2: So behavioral excess from him might inform or not inform
- 10:24Speaker 2: his decision to kill somebody. Under the tent. If Austin
- 10:27Speaker 2: had a capacity to be kind of a jackwagon in
- 10:30Speaker 2: his own right as a teenage boy, you know, okay, great,
- 10:33Speaker 2: stipulate that, But that doesn't make him more killable. That
- 10:36Speaker 2: that doesn't mean that it will. You know, I tell
- 10:38Speaker 2: you what, Austin did some some really obnoxious stuff. Oh,
- 10:41Speaker 2: in that case, it's okay for him to be stabbed.
- 10:43Speaker 2: That logic does not fly. But it all became just
- 10:46Speaker 2: really kind of yeah.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But I but I will say that if your girlfriend
- 10:50Speaker 1: feels like he was, you know, stalking her and violently,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and I would think that's germane. He was obsessed with knives,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he said, he said he sent a picture of a
- 11:01Speaker 1: knife to his ex girlfriend and said this is before
- 11:05Speaker 1: he killed Austin Metcalf. I'm low I'm low key on
- 11:08Speaker 1: the verge. I'm low key on the verge. And that
- 11:13Speaker 1: wasn't a lot. The jury never heard that. The jury
- 11:16Speaker 1: never knew about this. And ps, that's the guy the
- 11:20Speaker 1: James Tallerico supports. Yep, that's the guy who thinks was
- 11:25Speaker 1: railroaded by James Tallarico, who says, all the.
- 11:27Speaker 2: System hexans just don't get justice. We didn't. System is broken.
- 11:32Speaker 1: System is broken. And he was a victim.
- 11:35Speaker 2: He didn't have any black jurors.
- 11:36Speaker 1: My gosh. And and now I guess you've probably seen
- 11:39Speaker 1: the Cook Report, pretty influential pollster. I know it's now
- 11:43Speaker 1: a toss up between tall Rico and Ken Paxton.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Was lean Republican. No, it's toss up in the governor's race.
- 11:50Speaker 2: They went from solid red to lean red. They're there,
- 11:54Speaker 2: they are, They're smoking the crack of these wacky poles
- 11:58Speaker 2: of the moment and.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Better work hard though we better not let down fighting,
- 12:04Speaker 1: push through and fight hard. Enjoy the weekend. I love you.
- 12:08Speaker 1: We'll see on the Education Podcast today at M and
- 12:11Speaker 1: M extra and I'll see you Monday.
