- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello, and welcome to another edition of the nine and always podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison, he contributor of it over at nine and always dot com and here with me fellow contributor, Mr. Oxa has do with Dula Oxa's how are things?
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're good Robert.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, years winding down.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I know getting it.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: I hope everyone is getting a chance to get some rest over these holidays, but can't complain.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was an interesting.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: We were just talking about how it was a, okay, pretty pretty good day on Sunday kind of weird, but yeah, I think.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: We made a big talk about how like it was really important that the Niners, you know, took care of business and cat pace because that's what they mean and that's exactly what happened and I think for that reason it was a win and it certainly was a lot of the things that they needed to do right they did and can't really complain about that.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, especially important because outside of the packers, everyone else pretty much did held serve as well.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like Seattle won the colds gave them a little bit of a scare, but they like they want a game kicking a bunch of field goals, so good for them, I guess.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_01]: Lions gave the rams an immediate run for their money, but the rams ended up, I don't know, it was kind of weird game.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: the Lions were winning and then the Rams kind of looked like they're going to blow them out and then they only ended up beating them by one score and they had a chance to win towards the end kind of an interesting game and then the Packers game they lost the Denver also lost Mike Parsons for the season which is going to put a real dent in their ability to to be successful in the playoffs I think although I guess if there's a season to lose a key player and still have a
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, kind of an interesting Sunday, but yeah, Niners Health serve.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think that what are the six seed hold held at the six seed.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: The Bears won, so that means they go back up to the two Packers Drop all the way down to seven.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: It kind of feels like we're getting to the point where you kind of know who six of the seven teams are going to be barring some kind of weirdness and there's kind of like one spot that's open in the NFC.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: We can sort of talk about this generally and then we'll get into the game itself.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: But do you kind of get the sense that's where we are now that it's like there's like six teams that feel
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like, well, maybe five, five or six teams that feel pretty solid and then it's really one spot open and that's just like the NFC South.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think six is right actually.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think just given the amount of losses.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: So the Niners, which is crazy to think about, Ken, Ken, who's clinched a play-out spot next week.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, that's all I have to do is win.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, all they have to do is win.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: you know, the lines have to lose.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: So in many ways, and I think maybe there's this like one other thing that was necessary, which was didn't cowboys losing, so the manners are like a really good spot, and I think just generally did injuries for some of these teams and some of the losses they put, like, I feel like everything is basically set except for then a sea south.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like the only one where you're like, oh, I don't know.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: But the one is maybe if if either Green Bay or Chicago falters like because there is I mean if the Lions could go on a run here at the end because they're only a game I think a game back of the packers right now, I think it's like a game and a half because the packers have a lot of tie so it's kind of the math gets kind of weird.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: If they lose again, I think that like if they lose on Sunday, I feel pretty confident that we could say.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: All right, that's probably the more probably pretty well locked in and it's just a matter of who wins the punching match between the bucks and the Panthers, both seven and seven teams at this particular point.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: So it'll be really interesting to see.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's just really a matter of where everybody's going to fall.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the most likely outcome right now seems like the rams are going to be the number one seed.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: Whoever wins the NFC north is probably going to be the two.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: the three seed will be, I guess it's either between the end of seed, the eagles and whoever wins the end of seed North, be the two seed or the two and three, the end of seed South team is going to be the fourth, the fourth seed and then it's just kind of a jocking for position between 49ers and the packers and the bears and whoever is left in that mix,
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: And whoever is the second best team at the NFC West, which really, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: and get the number one seed.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: If they don't do that, then my other option is Carolina wins the NFC South and the Niners finish in the five seed.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: That is completely that of course is completely selfish on my part because that means they'd come here and maybe I could get to go.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: So that'd be cool.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: And then after that I don't really care.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's not really a first round matchup that you look at and go.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's just no way they could win it or it would go
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of the nature of this season that every game kind of looks like me, you know, everybody's got a shot I do think I agree I do think the the one you really want I in an ideal world is to be the five seed just because like and this isn't obviously we all want Robert to be able to go to go to and me my office send me money.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: But beyond that, like, in terms of the 40 matters, like, string together through games.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like whoever's playing the NFC South is having the easiest week, barring some like crazy injury that the Eagles suffer, but they're basically locked into a playoff spot, so they're gonna get it.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: But like, they basically are a shell of themselves.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, unless that's happening, and I don't think that will be happening, like, I think.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: You want to be playing Carolina for sure.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: That would be ideal or like even Tampa Bay with just how inconsistent they are Tampa's talented.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're not better than like any of the other teams we mentioned.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to be one of those weird quirks where the division winners have to be the top four seeds and you're like.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, this is the seventh best team.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it happened last year too, right?
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Especially I think about the 5C with Minnesota and like the Lions as well as the were playing last.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: It just, if you also like every few years and it's all like because of the NRC South, you get this like, oh, I don't know, like NFC South.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's been other teams like the Seahawks meet the playoffs at 7 and 9 one year or so.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not, it's not just the NFC South.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: Just historically recently, it's been, it's been just the NFC South.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it feels like ever since they made the move to seven teams.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's been damn, see South, I'm not so good up.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, not even in there.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: So let's go ahead and get into the game a little bit more.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we talked about it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: So it's the fourth straight win for the 49ers.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: They win 37, 24 for all you sports better is out there.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: They covered the 12 and a half points spread.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: with that last, with that field goal at the end.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't really want care that they covered the spread.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: I just felt like winning by 13 looked a lot more impressive than winning by 10.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, just me.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I was nice.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: I was glad that they got that later one after they gave up that kind of dumb touchdown at the end.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: So generally speaking, so there's two things I wanted to talk about in sort of general sense before we get into it more detail.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_01]: For my first observation is it's kind of funny that it feels to me that both both the things that we were worried about and the reasons that we were optimistic about the 49ers winning and the reason that we were concerned about the 49ers possibly like falling into a trap game.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: Both of those things happened in this game and yet they still managed to win and I thought that was kind of funny.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so like.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: defensively.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: That was like, it's not about as bad as it could go because this fantasy could go would be like, giving up 50 points to them in a lot.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: But it was pretty bad.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and we'll get into this defensively.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of like, oh boy, not like ideal play, especially from, especially from like the defensive line and just in general,
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: not ideal, but offensively they look like a juggernaut as they should against the titans like it would be bad if they weren't, but they looked really, really good and that was really like heartening to see.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I don't know why I took the titans, I think it took 10 wins for people in the NFL and be like, in the NFL meeting, be like, oh wait, like the Niners are, they're like still around.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, we're still here.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh, like, this isn't just that they're actually like competing against all these other teams.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: And now they have a real shot.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I don't know why Tennessee was the reason why you now believe that that was true.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like the worst possible team that could have that they could have played all year.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, very, very interesting.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I just, I, that happened that I kind of chuckled to myself because I was like,
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so those things are literally happening simultaneously.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the concern there, if you'll excuse the pun, is that if Tennessee were even a little bit better, then they probably put themselves in position.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers are in a position where they possibly lose this game, but it's on the balance of the Titans just not being very good when it mattered, kind of allowed them to win in the end, which is fine.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like you said, the important thing is that they notch the victory, they got 10 wins, which is crazy, and that they remain, they held serve as it were.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, definitely.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean why?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: Look, Seattle won a game where they didn't score a touchdown against like a grandpa.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: So, it's any given some literal grandpa.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, hey, hey, look, someone who actually, like, like, I mean, and felt, look, we'll talk about fellow drivers and to get what they preview our game, but they're, them upcoming Monday night game, but I mean,
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: He played about as well as I think he could expect and that, that offense was like a trucious.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, that was responsible for the only touchdown in the game.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm saying is not to make fun of Seattle even though they won a little bit to make fun of Seattle, you know, why not mostly mostly just look weeks are weird like I don't think the Niners would have won a lot of games against a lot of teams playing the way they play against Tennessee, but it worked for Tennessee and I mean I think that's like at this point that's all you can really like
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: asked for in a ways that like they they hold serve like we've been saying I was cuz like this team is just not especially on defense not good enough to like be able to just like be dominant against anyone so you kind of expect it to be a little like oh like they did just enough and they did just enough here so
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't know like I think like in 2023 for something if they played this game I've been like, wow, this is really bad and you would have had the classic like our podcast when they win a game kind of meteorically and you'll be like, oh, like
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Did they win?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be like, yeah, guys, they won.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, obviously, it just wasn't very good.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: But like, I just don't have that perspective about this team.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: Any more?
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: Cause like, they're just not talented enough on defense with all the injuries for you to have that expectation for them.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think those are, I think that's true.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we would've had that either.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: They, they won, but it was ugly and was closer than you wanted it to be.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_01]: Or this is one of those games where they ended up losing a game that shouldn't have, which we've had a few of those episodes.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of the defense, I don't know if you saw this.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Steve Young was on K and BR.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was today.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: So, yep.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: Earlier, this morning, talking,
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: with Murphy Marcus on their show this morning.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: Said a couple of interesting things, mostly about the defense he noted that the four designers don't have the traits of what he referred to as a predatory defense, and he was concerned about that come play off time.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: This quote was very interesting to me.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: He said, there's obviously two things, stop the run and attack the quarterback, and we're not doing either.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: I just wanted to point that out because, well, Steve Young, Chris falls pretty smart guy.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And as we're talking about, and I think it's pretty, pretty well-pidimizes if there's sort of like a general concern about this team and something that was
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: highlighted in more detail by this, by this game in particular, I think that's, like, says it all from me right there.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's totally right, like, like, he's literally, this defense, the one thing this defense has going for and Ben Solax said this on ESPN is that they play really fast and they hit anything that moves.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: And that gets you a lot, right?
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like that aggressiveness is pretty valuable.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: But absent that, like, this is not a good defense.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't make a lot of good defense plays.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't stop the run.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't sack the court, Vah.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't really give pressure at all.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't take the ball over a ton, so it's not even like a super opportunistic.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's just surviving, basically.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: hang in there, and it's worked for now, but it's a real challenge.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we saw that when they played the Rams a few weeks ago, like a really good offense, made it look like absolutely pathetic.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the bear's offense has been being pretty good.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: The cold set of great run games.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Seattle is Seattle.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they'll be challenged now.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: They
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: what I want to see happen is through either people starting to get back healthy or like, like Robert's all getting more aggressive with schemes.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Just like I think this defense has to find a way to get more aggressive again somehow.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: And like find a way to like start attacking and I don't I don't know how that's going to happen.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that means you blitz a lot more, but it's nested and part of these things it's going to require just like
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: getting some people back.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like obviously, some guys are coming back, but like takin' Bethune, get yourself like a middle linebacker who knows how to like play like the position.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, maybe you'll be able, you'll feel a little more confident throwing in some blitzes because you think your linebackers can hold up.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: Something like that, I don't know.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're missing something.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I can't argue with that.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: So speaking of, of, of Tate Bethune, I'm just kind of looking at injuries coming out of this game and had looking forward to Monday against the cults.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: So the only real injury that coming out of this one was Ricky Pierce all.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: seems to have reagovated his the PCL injury that he had earlier in the season, they also had to, he came out of the game at some point with an ankle.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: They taped it up, he went out, finished the game.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think the PCL happened sort of later in the game.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: It looked like he got kind of conundra and he sort of limped off the field.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing as of yet as we're recording on Wednesday
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing, as of yet about whether or not that's going to mate for some of this more time, real shame if that would.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: Dron Jennings, I think, also mentioned that he got hit in the ribs again in the right spot exactly, but hasn't popped up for any injury report or anything so far, or even got mentioned as like having an injury after the game.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: Did mention in the Monday morning sort of like,
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: recap that Spencer Burford, Jordan Elliott, Eric Hendrix, Tatum Bethune, Sam Okuanu, all expected to return to practice this week.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: So as you were saying, that would be really good, like if you could get
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Elliott who missed the game last minute was last minute scratch due to like a knee injury that he got in the locker room, which is bizarre.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Never heard that before.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: But if you can get Elliott back, if you could get Bethune back, if you can get Samo Guano back, even if you can mix Eric Kendrick's in there some in some way, shape or form.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I think that improves the floor.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: Or it raises the floor, the defense a little bit, especially for a defense that the floor is not particularly high.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like Samo with whom we didn't even mention your Turgress Matos.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: If you Oh, yeah, yeah, it is.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: We return at some point.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: Did it wasn't opened?
- 18:15[SPEAKER_01]: They did it at the end of last week.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: So like these are people who like will make this defense cop right now.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: This defense is not even confidence sometimes.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the problem.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's like truly.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's like
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Just generally, it doesn't operate with that baseline level you need to do too.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think those names are going to get you that like, that like competency, which is really important because like the 49ers defense is not going to be top 10 you did.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: But like if they do the right things, right, they can win it.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to say this.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: This is the first time I've said this on the podcast.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: They can win a Super Bowl if this defense can get to league average.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: It just the way this year has been and if this defense is year average and can make one or two big plays and they've done these in some big games like obviously the games they did these in they had better players but that was really like what happened a lot at the time right like the first couple of weeks it was like okay playing okay playing pretty good playing okay boom big play when the game
- 19:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think this team has a lot of, like, as a really high bar, and the players coming back are gonna help get to that baseline.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: They just need, they can't be this defense.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: They have to be a little better, otherwise,
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: you walk into LA, I mean, honestly, like, I don't even know the defense as closely construed can, like, beat the bears.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not gonna say the cults because they'll publish his old, and what I mean, we'll talk about it.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_00]: But, like, we'll talk, we'll see ya.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I think some of these defenses, it's like,
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these offenses, it's really like it's almost a bit like arrogant to assume that like the 49ers will be able to take care of business against them.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: There's just no way.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: You can't be this confident with that.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we've been saying this all year.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like the defense is going to have to be just good enough because the offense at peak and we've seen it at peak or a couple of times over the last month or so, right?
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: it's pretty good like this offense is capable of scoring 30 plus points a game and if the defense I mean and like that would not be that doesn't seem like asking like if you if your offense can put up 34 points let's just say just pick a number like if your defense can't hold almost any offense any other offense in the NFL
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: to under 34 points.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, and that's a real shot.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's real sad.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: And so again, like you said, if they're just like, if they can hold them to, even if you can stop them from scoring more than four touchdowns, you're in a good shape.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone always be ugly or everyone always be pretty and it will be nerve-wracking for those of us watching at home, but, you know, there's, there's no, no team that you look at and go, oh well there, the like nobody's going to stop them.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're the one odds on total, I mean, you know, the Rams and the Broncos are the top two seeds right now and you have to say, well, they seem like the most likely teams to make the Super Bowl at this point, but also the Rams have their flaws in various areas.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos are have a second ear quarterback who is kind of up and down at various points.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I think you could point at every team and go, well, they've got this, but they also got that, like every team has something that they excel at,
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: and every team's got something that you're like, yeah, but here's the thing that could probably kill them at the wrong time.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: And the Niners are no different.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: They just happen to be a lot more injured in their Achilles' seal area, but it doesn't mean that they're incapable of making a run of thick and like the matchups have to be right.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: But that's true for, I think, everybody at this point.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I actually agree.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it's a wide open NFL playoffs.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like the nanners wouldn't be the odds on favorites, but they have they have the ability they can beat any team in the playoffs I think that's that much is true and so when you have that being true it really depends on like whether or not your team is going to be able to give you what your defense in particular is going to be able to give you that like baseline competency necessary to like
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: to give your offense a chance, like give your offense, which can beat any defense into a and if you give them a chance to compete, like that's the problem, it's like if your defense doesn't even give you a chance to compete, like what are we doing here?
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the real name of the game for the 49ers is be able to be competitive on one side of the field, so your other side can like lift you to victory.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right, two of the quick things.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: One is non-fortinized related, specifically the other could be before we get into the Titans game in a little more detail.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: First is a porcelain mount for the Kansas City Chiefs, officially eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's a really long time to have made the playoffs.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: They won.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: two three two levels in that time period was the number I don't remember is it three I think it's three three it sucks um I don't know why we need to talk about that um but they added injury to insult in this particular case as well, Patrick my homes also tore his ACL on Sunday in the loss attempting to drive his team down the field to take
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: the lead or tie the game against the chargers and they could not, they couldn't, he didn't stand the field and then Gardner mentioned through an interception of and to pretty much seal the game.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, if that,
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, even in the back of your head, like his pores, the chiefs have been, there's something in your brain that makes you, that just like, if they had gotten into the playoffs, you're like the concern that they might do that thing that they always seem to do when they get to the playoffs was there.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: And again, just like you're talking about the fact that they are not there, kind of.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Muddy's the water even more.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, oh, well, who's the favorite like who's the guy who can be counted on who can be trusted like we're very likely to get a Super Bowl match of against players that against with two quarterbacks or two teams that have not been there at all like because what so jail in Hertz has been Brockburg, Brockburg has been Matthew Stafford has been
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think that's it for the end of C of the like teams that like we would expect art would be in the playoffs I like the playoff teams right now.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Bro next has never been Josh Allen's never been
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's anybody.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Joe Burrow would be the only other one who's been in the last half a decade or some point that.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: And they're done.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: So we're very likely very like the high the probability of a playoff match or a Super Bowl match of against two teams.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Two quarterbacks who've never been is like really heavily in play right now.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's less.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: well it's definitely we're we're we're definitely getting one in the a of c um oh yeah for our perspective but um any thoughts on the chiefs
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like, I feel terrible with my home's injury, obviously, like, he is one of the best quarterbacks, like I've seen play in my entire life.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: And that's like a brutal injury at his age, hopefully.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, like in terms of like the gamesmanship of like the chiefs have been so good, like,
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: It would be unfun if he comes back like better than ever, but I hope he does because for football, that's like, I don't know, like, last year and they were not a good team.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: This year, they're better than their record like the reality is so there's so much variance between these two years and it kind of even's out to where they are, which is like a good like.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, like football team, that's not like a world reader anymore in large part because of just so many like just they just didn't develop over time the things they needed to do so I think that like With that in mind, you get a bit of like, oh, like, oh, like maybe the reset is helpful for them, right, like they get a higher draft it
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: They can sort of reevaluate how they want their offense in defense to look so who knows maybe we'll be back better than never, but for the next to me.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, that's betting for the natter is it's like it's pretty important that
- 27:36[SPEAKER_00]: It's a shame that they're also injured because like the boogie man is gone, but you know, it's a sign that like even the longest sort of like windows eventually close and the 49ers should have been like I don't know something about windows closing and like take advantage of your own chimney when you get it I think that's that feels that feels right to me.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, last one.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: We can, we don't know if it's been a ton of time on this.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins are releasing Matthew Judon.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: A player who was speculated is like a trade piece at the trade deadline.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody went for it.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins are a disaster.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're benching to a, and not only they're benching to, but they're skipping over.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: Um, shoot.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, exactly.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it's a go to Quinn Ewers, who they drafted in the 7th round to try to, um, Mike McDonald's like, I've seen this happen before.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: I can work.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and we'll see how that goes.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: But, um, Matthew, Jude on.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: has not been good this year, but he as a vested veteran does not have to be subjected to waivers, he's available as a free agent can go anywhere he wants.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: If you're the 49ers, do you make that a priority?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, priority is hard only because.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, maybe a strier.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: More so just like, I do think there's like a literal issue of like how much money would you
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: before like Matthew G. Don't I don't know like others I'm not really sure like what the right answer to then is however I do think like Like one billion percent yes, like you signed Matthew G. Don like I saw great article by Kyle Posi about it like Matthew G. Don would give you something very important.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_00]: That's not even like He's looking very fast for sure.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great fast for sure.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like that is true, but um
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: people could also give you a sort of dislike opportunity against the run that the nine are really need right now and like he's a like good player you know it's a better body on the field then um
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then some of the guys they've had out on the field for them, right?
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the reality is like, if you get a confident veteran, taking some of these snaps, this defense will look better.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_00]: And we're just trying to get with baseline, right?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_00]: We're trying to get them to average.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Matthew drew it on, could help him do that.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I would like, I'll be all over that.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: Those are the 49ers.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they'd be, I don't know.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: But I certainly, I wouldn't shadow away from that at all.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think it's the right.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's been really poor this year.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like he has no sacks.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: He only has like 19 tackles in 13 games.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: But at the same time, there is, and he's, you know, he's older, but, but you're also like, you're paying him for the last three games of the regular season.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then as many games in the playoffs as you have, like,
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, the worst case is he is a, it means a rotational guy at this point and it's career.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's just, that's just the truth.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: But he's also a guy who's shown that he has the ability to, to probably be better than than than maybe whoever you're a third or fourth guy is.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: Um, off the edge.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: And as you said, if he also helps make the run game better, or the running defense better, all the, all the, all the more important,
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: you know, if you can get yourself in a position where you can get back to like you're saying, get back to the the middle of as far as being a defense, then I think you're in good shape.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: So I would definitely do that.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: He did also play for the Patriots previously in his career.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe there's something there.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, you'd almost feel better if the way, I don't know, would you feel better if there was a waiver situation, I don't know, because one of the bad teams would just claim them just to mess with people, so it's really just a matter of what you went off or I'm like you said, so we'll see how it goes.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so let's go ahead and talk a little bit more detail about the Titans game.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was a win, we're going to say that again, just a reminder,
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: over the Tennessee Titans.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: They've won four games in a row, which is among the better when streaks in the NFL, as long as you don't think about the Broncos.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: That's just crazy to me, just as an aside.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll go ahead and get into our one-up one-down section, which is brought to you by our friends from Underdog Fantasy.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: Football season is in full swing, and Underdog is the best place to get in on all the action.

- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: Add again like my underdog pics to just sort of think about oh, how am I gonna like how am I gonna make NFL Sunday more fun for myself And I like I love it.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's really easy.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's really fun and everyone should definitely download the app today And use promo code noise to score $75 in bonus entries when you play your first five dollars

- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so let's go ahead and get into the Titan's game a little bit more detailed.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oxials will start with you for the up.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I feel like there's going to be a lot of overlap in our ups and downs today, but I could be surprised.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: So, God, get started.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, to the up, I would have to say it was the passing offense.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was really, it was really good.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, like, I'm sorry.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of really high level analysis for me to do here because
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like 23, a 30, 295, three touchdowns, no picks.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_00]: Ricky Peris all nearly 100 yards, George Kittle 88, you're on Jennings, two touchdowns, Democracy Robbins, you got involved, like.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was good.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you wanted.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the 49ers passing off and should look like is it should look exactly like that.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I think.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was a welcome site, especially in the wake of like Brandon and I, you've been put on like reserved left the team and all that nonsense and like, you're like, oh, do they have like, they're not going to get a wide receiver back, do they have like enough weapons in the passing game.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they didn't have weapons in the passing game.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, if I was Ricky Pierce saw, I would feel like disrespected when that drew breeze on the broadcast was saying that the big three for the 49ers offense was use check.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: McCaffrey and Kittle, I don't feel like any receiver, like, I love juice, juice is amazing.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you're being told that, like, you're less important than a full back.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: You, you should feel as though you have something to prove.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought the 49ers receiving a core played really well.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers passing off in general was really, really good.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, look at that.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: So that's exactly what I was going to say, too.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Brock pretty looked excellent.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, outside of the one turnover, which, you know, was just probably just a really good play on the part of Jeffers.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: Jeffers, yeah, seven, two, we're like, who we talked about, like, he's a good player.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Also, don't leave him alone in the back of the end zone as it turns out, bad decision.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: defense at point of view, not really sure.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_01]: I missed that guy, like I'm just saying.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: More than that in a moment, I'm sure.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, the offensive passing game was just really good, not only good, but efficient, you know, buck only through seven interceptions, average just almost 10 yards for completion, three touchdowns, was sacked twice, but for only three yards, you know.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: quarterback rating about 140 if you're into those kind of numbers, like he's just he just looks like the guy that that we that was you know played not last year with the year before where he was you know for the MVP voting and all this kind of stuff like.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: If that's the brook party we get for the rest of the season, then the Niners are in business, and I think he's addicted to do that.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe one of Ricky Pierce's better games, hopefully he'll be good to go there.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's always good to see George Kittle in the mix.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: But also, you know, like, kind of, or Mark Strappensen was an important had a couple, he only had two catches, but they were both, I think, important, catches for the game, you know, Kendrick Boren also had one,
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was interesting that Kishima Kaffer was not a big part of the passing game this on this day only one catch for 14 yards That will be very interesting to see if they continue to find a way to get him the ball in some ways probably To his benefit even if it does impact his
- 37:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, 1000,000 search, which he's still in play for, although it's looking more difficult from the Recept from the receiving hard point of view at this point, not impossible, but more difficult.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think this is maybe the best version of the passing offense as exists.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_01]: and we'll probably exist from here until the end of the year.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what the offense is going to have to do.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like they're going to have to throw the ball effectively because teams are going to force them to do so.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_01]: And they're good enough to do it.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: And if they can be effective like they were on Sunday, then they're going to be tough to beat.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care who you are.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's totally right.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, it was good not only because like it looks really good like stat wise, but like they just they took care of business, right?
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: It was efficient.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's the biggest thing is that like at times the past and game it has not looked like the offense is not looked deficient.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the offense was efficient, especially the
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: Did it ever think that a good often should do and they haven't looked like that and forever.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_00]: So that was really nice to see.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then not to mention how many like third downs that they convert before.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was really, I was gonna hold on to pull this up real quick.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: Even the like the ugly third downs were like oh shoot like
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: third and like eight like okay because they started off like they were like they were operating on like all cylinders right it was a lot of them yeah they're nine or 15 in the end but which is pretty excellent yes like at the beginning to it was a lot of like third and three third and four and then just they just did everything right for a little bit like the game started got away from them in the second half
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a little fair.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: If the titans were playing a little better, they were carrying a little less, but when they were like really competing, they were really, really good.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, that we didn't say a lot of night.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't say all the nice things, but that's because, again, like we said earlier, but this is one of those weird ones where they won the game, but,
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: because of the nature of how it kind of played out.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: And frankly, let's just be honest, because they played a team that was two and 10 coming into the game, I think that that paints things on a curve.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that's going to grade things on a curve, that paints on a curve.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I'm talking about there.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to color a little bit of why this,
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: this down section is gonna feel meteor than the up I think is that fair to say access.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I mean I think that like the defense right was like opportunistic when the game was first in like in balance they didn't enough and that's good right like like we said the alternative is that they don't do enough
- 40:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then like you have the 49ers losing it game, they could earn it for it to lose and the whole system worth horsepower.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: So like that was good.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: The running game like you like get those stats against Cleveland or something, you're like, okay, you're like pretty good.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: But they weren't playing Cleveland, right?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't playing like the Broncos defense.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: They were playing the Tennessee Titans and that that really does impact the way you think about how they performed
- 41:20[SPEAKER_00]: They're not going to get that opportunity to play a team like this anymore.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's just not.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_00]: They are playing playoff games effectively, the rest of the way through.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, every team they're playing even indie.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: Indies offense might be the worst unit they'll play for the rest of the season.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: And that's going to require that they really like perform better than they did.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: One of the ways that needs to perform better is, by God, the defense was not good.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_00]: So that's my down, the defense was not good.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: Just very, very simple.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: The defense played like pretty like mediocre with the exception of maybe like one to two, like good drives.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was,
- 42:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like the first three now, really good.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: Great.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: After that, not a fan.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Just.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, like well said.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think there's real problem is they didn't.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't even know how much they stopped the pass per se.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you look as statistically, the run defense discussed them terrible while I'll get to them in the second.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: But the past defense looks better than I think it actually was because the like, the titans are not a really good football team.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: They dropped a lot of passes, you know, things just don't work.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Work, we put the titans at offense.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was less so that the 49ers like were like, oh, like, tight, sticky coverage.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: No, it was more like,
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: They got lucky.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like they got lucky in a lot.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they dropped three interceptions, maybe.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: One of them turned into a completion, like, just in general, bad, bad passing defense.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: Need to be better there, but the run defense, Robert, it's just terrible.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we'll get, when we talk, when we preview Monday nights game, we're going to talk
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: That running game is exponentially better than what the 49ers faced with the titans and the titans ran rough shot over them.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like if the titans didn't basically spot the 49ers some like 20 points.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: This game could have been like Tennessee just running the ball down their throat and the Niners have no stop to that.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_00]: The Niners have no stop to that, but Tennessee had to throw the ball in order to like stay in the game.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: So they got very lucky that regard defensively like you're just you have to be better.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: You just have to be so much better than they were.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, um, I think the other thing with it is obviously I agree with that with that sentiment is just like Tennessee didn't have a lot of volume of plays either like camward only completed 18 passes they only ran the ball 20 times.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: One of those runs was for negative 70 yards by a chimere D.K.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: One was for 3 yards by Khalil Mullings, which was for first down, I think.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then one by Cam Ward for 2 yards.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: The other two guys, Coney Pollard and Tajay Spears, ran the ball for a collective 17 times 438 yards, which is quite excellent.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, imagine if they had been able to run more plays because their offense was better, there's a real good chance that they just ram it down their throats for four quarters and just win the game without having to work that hard.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: But like you said, like, on the basis of the fact that they're just not very good and they're just, like, they're just couldn't string it together when it needed to be done a lot.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: So you kind of are fortunate in that regard
- 45:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, again, they only ran 49 plays, so, which is pretty low, like, considering the Niners through the ball.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: the nine or three of the ball 30 times that plus two sacks.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: So that's 32 times plus they ran the ball 38 times.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, the number, like the disparagement, the disparagement in plays in volume really makes up the difference in terms like between the two offenses.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: But if Tennessee had been able to keep, you know, maintain, I think it's a different game altogether.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: So certainly worry about that.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that's why I like getting a
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: Tate and Bethune getting Samu Guani back maybe even signing a guy like Matthew Jude on probably makes Would be help this team immensely like to to lower the to raise the floor a little bit But I didn't want to mention whether the thing that's not the defense and it's the sort of the other thing that we didn't really talk about and that's that I don't even know if this is worth discussing anymore because it's just kind of seems like this is where the 49 is rushing off and says at this point
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like fine, right?
- 46:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't even know if it's fine.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: Aggressive.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: It's like aggressively at this point.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's probably the, I couldn't think of a better way to describe it.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, and especially because this, this particular performance was fueled by Brock Perty 7 for 44, um, the running backs, the two guys who's main job it is to run the ball, 22 for 73 for Christian McAfee.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: That's 3.3 yards per carry, um, 9 for 21 from Brian Robinson.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's 2.3 yards per carry, which, the, um,
- 46:56[SPEAKER_01]: So it's concerning.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: Now again, like we said, the passing game was so very good that it didn't really matter.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: And then they were just able to be like, hey, so we pick up three and a half, three yards, three yards, and then we throw the ball and we get a first down.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like that seemed to be, and they were fine with that.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that will work.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: But you kind of like to see a little bit more at some point.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm not so sure it's going to, it's going to work, Robert.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, yeah.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: maybe it's too late.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think the real problem is that like the run game is not explosive.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine like they get some yards but it's not explosive and you need like an explosive run game because that sort of those chunk plays are really what let's you like kind of dominate as an offense and they just don't get chunk plays any like they've gotten better on the
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: when it comes to like into passive game.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: So as they've gotten healthier, they've like gotten better at like chunking out plays.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: But the run game like, they don't stress a team like,
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: vertically in the run game and the same way like I don't know like the lines or like the dolphins with they're like super fast running bags do because like you have to be worried that like you let you miss a block somewhere, it's not not a block, you miss like a read somewhere like boom that's that's it you're you're you're done's of right like they're scoring and I think like without that fear teams can like be a little more
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: aggressive on the 49ers run game without having that passing attack, they've been able to key on it more.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: But like it's property ran for 26 yards.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: I guess Titan's Robert, he did.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: It was beautiful.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: That is the longest run plate the 49ers have had this year.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: That is unacceptable.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't like there's no real fix.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the problem.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_00]: Is that like, there's no way or like, oh, like this is what they need to do.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, it kind of is what it is.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's unfortunate, like you mentioned, but
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully, like some like a genie comes down like son of a son like foreign matter and little kid wishes for it and Santa grants it to the 49ers because like at like absenteem miracle.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really sure how this running game is going to get any better.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you just at this point, you had to just have to hope that it's good enough.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_01]: to still kind of make teams pay attention to it.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like you said, it's hard to tell, like, what is it exactly that's going on here?
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: Is it, I mean, it's probably a combination of a lot of things.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the blocking isn't always doing what it needs to do.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe they're running back, aren't doing their job, 100% all the time.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really know, but it is, it is concerning, and it is one of those things that you feel like,
- 50:14[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's going to kind of like stifle this team's ability to be as good as it possibly could be at times.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think so.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I saw some breakdowns earlier in the year about how like part of it really was like the blocking was the issue.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's probably still true.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like the 49ers did not, their interior offensive line has not been up to snuff.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: this year.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think that much has been true, whatever day I've been trying to do, it just didn't work out, right?
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like there was a software slump from Dominic Pune for a little bit, like the left-guard situation, there was a lot of injuries, like it didn't work.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: It just didn't work.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think like Trent Williams has slowly rounded into form.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: And just because of that, there's just no like push.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I also think that like, and I continue, I know I said this like a while ago, right?
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't think Christian McCaffrey has that like, exclusiveness he used to have.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: Or like, that like top line ability to break free.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if that's there.
- 51:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think he has to like make someone miss.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: But the end of open field is he going to be able to outrun someone.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know if that's like in his skillset anymore.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's definitely a line in Brian Robinson skillset and I think that sort of becomes the problem is that you don't have the 49ers just don't have speed as a team on offense.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that really is costing them because speed is how you let's stress the top.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: you were able to run the ball a lot more effectively and you're getting 10 yards on passes way faster.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's all because of the fact that with speed, teams now have to push back and work.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: And account for the fact is like, you can go past them.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I really think that that's something they've needed to fix for a while.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've continued to struggle without it and I think it's really coming back to bite them right now.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, whether or not there's a fix for it from probably not like it's just like Jordan walkins is maybe the only thing I can person I can think of and like Jacob Coward maybe, but it's just like those those guys aren't giving like correct the roster because the 49ers are like two like there's just no way of believing that leg.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: Those guys are going to be ready for all the other things they have to do on the 49ers, right?
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think that like it's a real shame that both got hurt because they could have added that element, but they can't like now.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: So you just got to ride with it.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well, like if I had to say what's one thing, they need to do in the off season.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's a gap like someone who can run like a 434 on this team.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_00]: Asa and like just be able to stress teams.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_00]: They just got to be able to stress teams down the field.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: right well not just somebody who can do that but also somebody who can be trusted with the football it's like as a grandiose fast the kid can't sniff the the roster because or the you know he can't play because he can't hold on to the ball like he's just had too many problems
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: You know, holding on to the football and staying healthy and it's just like in the end, the availability matters more than his ability to run fast in a straight line, I guess.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, it's hard that's a hard the hard thing to find, but.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think they're going to have to figure something out there.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, again, we said this already, this is one of those weird episodes where it kind of sounds like the 49er's loss.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you just popped in in the middle of like the last 10 minutes of this conversation.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_01]: and didn't know what happened in the game he'd probably be like, oh, sounds like the 49ers lost the game through a bummer, but no, they want to actually, but I'm pretty handle it too.
- 54:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, they went by since by 13 points and it wasn't really actually like the really that close.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like after it was what they were up by 14 to 10 after that Gunner Helm touched down and then it was 17 to 10 at half time.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: They never got any closer than that, right?
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: That was as close as Tennessee was, was the half time score 17, at 10.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Niners went out.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: They wrote, what, 31 to say, it was like 31 to 10, or something like that, and the Tennessee scored twice.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because they scored two touchdowns in the second half to kind of make it look a little closer than it was.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_01]: then it sees coming back, but it was like, come on guys like why you're making this more difficult on yourself that you need to be kind of thing.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: And again, like I think we're looking at this from the perspective of if this team is better and they're going to play three teams in the next three weeks.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: actually let's just go ahead and say it.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to play four teams in the next four weeks that are better than this Titan's team like by a lot.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: And so they're going to have a Titan things up and figure out how to be better or that fourth game is going to be the last game.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's just how it's going to be.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's just straight talk right there.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: But it couldn't say it any better myself, 100% like 1,000% agree.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's where they are.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that means that like, like, in a way, it's a testament to how they've survived this year.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: And we're kind of holding into the standard that, like, we've typically held this team during the Kalshanian era, which is,
- 56:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they have, they're not thinking about like winning just a game.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's about, are they playing at the level necessary to win a Super Bowl?
- 56:27[SPEAKER_00]: And they didn't on Sunday.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: And they won, I think that's good.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: But like, more is required, and more is expected.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, I don't like it.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: All right, I think that's good a place to stop as any.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, as I always do, go to you and see if you need any final things that you need to get off here.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: Chest about this one.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: Otherwise, we'll, in the mortal words of Bill Veilchek on Dane in Daneapolis.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing more to add, but I think you summed it up perfectly.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: Is that?
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: If they play the way they play against Tennessee, the rest of the season, they are not going to be doing any of the things that we've just said may be possible for them.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully they fix it.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: Do better, guys.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: We, we chastise because we love that's what it comes down to.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, all right, well, we will be back later in the week to preview the game in Indianapolis
- 57:35[SPEAKER_01]: culture to that, maybe Saturday, Sunday, kind of range.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see how it goes.
