- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the Ninernoy's podcast, parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at Ninernoy's.com, and here with me, in the best shape of his life, frankly, a fellow distributor, Aksha Stoodle, Aksha's, how's it going, man?
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been, it's been incredible summer, you know, I've been in the lab, I've been working hard, you know, really got to know the playbooks.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like I'm coming into the season getting ready to compete at the highest level and take that next step.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well done.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Look at that off the cuff right there, man.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: That was good impressive stuff.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing well, Robert.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I'm excited for football to be certain soon.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm like everything I get back into this one good things.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's happening.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: It feels like things are coming on the horizon.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: I believe this is pretty good timing.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: So the plan for today is just kind of like talk about training camp, which is coming up very soon.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: I believe Rookie's report five days from when we're recording.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, it's a little less than that.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: July fifteenth is when rookies report and I believe the week after is when the veterans report and then the foreign owners sent out information about training camp dates and everything just today I believe was when they announced all that kind of stuff so things are happening and it looks like it's you know we're basically
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: two weeks out from everybody being at training camp and that is really when football season starts, right?
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's pretty safe to say.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: I would agree with that.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think like training.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: This is like the offseason spectacular as far as like it's actually offseason.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like nothing is happening.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: People who saved stuff is happening.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's a lot of manufactured content right now essentially from the NFL.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: But training camp is when we're really back.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's really time.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: So again, I mentioned training camp dates that were sent out to the public.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: They announced that tickets will go on sale July, sixteenth, which is the day after.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: The rookie's report.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a season ticket holder, you can get access to them a little bit earlier the day first or the day before.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Open practice dates are July, twenty-third, twenty-fourth, twenty-fifth, twenty-seven, twenty-eighth and twenty-nineth.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: an August fourth fifth seventh, eleven and twelve with gates opening at nine and practice from ten fifteen to twelve fifteen.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: I have never been to training camp for a lot of reasons obviously.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: live on the other side of the country.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, Sunday, maybe I'll get to experience it.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: That would be cool.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of other notes.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: July, twenty-fourth is a season ticket member exclusive practice.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: July, twenty-seventh will be NFL Networks back together weekend, whatever that means.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_01]: And then August, seventh, of course, is joint practice with the Broncos, and it's also eight, seven day, which is Dwight Clark.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Legacy, the legacy day and all that kind of stuff that's going on around that with the Golden Heart Fund and everything so Yeah, that's cool those are the dates to watch out for but we're not really here to talk about that because I'm not there and I don't think you'll be there for that part so
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're just here to talk about what's actually going to go on during the football portion of the training camp.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's entertaining and everything for those who get to go.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: What we're going to do is we're going to just talk about four categories of things that we're going to do and we're going to use that as a preview for the training camp and we'll see where the conversation takes us from there as we always do.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, ox has any words before we get into the, uh, into the little categories that we have.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll just say, you know, I was able to go to training camp practice once.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's pretty cool.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say like, is it really, it's not really all that.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's, it's training camp.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's a ton of going on, but it can be cool.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: I went, I think the year Lance was the presumptuous starter.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: So there was a lot sort of going on like Jimmy Grappling came on the side field.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: It was like a whole thing.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: So it can be, it can be fun.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: I'll just say if you're in the area and have a data kill definitely, you know, I would recommend at least checking to take it out.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: But beyond that, no, I'm just ready to get talking about some football again.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: Well there you go.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so let's do it.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get into, I got four categories.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe some others will come up as we're talking about it.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: Very interested to see how this, I came up with them and I'm like, and then I was thinking about this earlier today.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, this is hard.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: like to to to whittle it down.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: So there could be some like multiple players type of situations.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: So we're gonna start with one that's very open ended.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: And that is the player with the most to gain.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: And just like when we did the you know the most important players list, we didn't really talk about like what do these things mean.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we're just leaving it up to to have you interpret it.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it will be very shocking if we come over the same name here because there's like eighty nine possible names that are or whatever on the list.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: or ninety players or whatever, so be really shocking if we if we doubled up here.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: But, um, Oxia, who did you have as your player with the most again?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a player who, I think we talked a lot about last year in a very specific context, but I think, has an opportunity for a much bigger role that's going to be Jacob County.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think he, like, kind of a, much smaller receiver, gadget, sort of, shifty guy.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's probably the number one guy right now.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: You think is best suited to take over Debo Samuel sort of role in the offense and being that like a wide back, you know, running the ball, jets, sweeps, you know, why do you see the screens, things like that.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: But cowing, I don't think really showed himself
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: showed much of himself as a receiver last year because of opportunity because of whatever.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I really think if he wants to sort of solidify that role and get on to the field, training camps can be big because John Jennings pretty much said.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Brandon that you can get back.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: He'll also be pretty secure.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: And after that, it's a whole mess of guys all competing for snaps and rules.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that like, Coweng is one of those players who with a great training camp could really, I could really expect to see a lot of snaps from him.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: The not so great training camp.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't even, I like, I genuinely think he could go anywhere from like, why'd you see her three to like?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_00]: off the roster to this training camp because like I mean, I don't think he'll go off to the roster, but I don't think his roster spot is as secure.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he has a lot to gain by having a phenomenal training camp and really solidifying himself as an option on this offense.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's a good shout.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought about his name crossed my mind.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: I did a couple of different passes at the roster to be like, oh, who's interesting here.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I ended up going, and I should say I agree with that with that idea, because I would say I thought about including him there, so that makes a lot of sense.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: I went with a name that is probably going to be a little surprising for you, but I think it's
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's not so much this I mean it is this player like if this player has a has a great creating camp and shows out and everything like that would be a big.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: a big get for the foreign owners, but I think it's more, um, he's more symbolic of, like, there's a spot here to be had.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_01]: And so you're gonna probably like chuckle a little bit of the name, I think, just because it is kind of like, oh, that's that, that's left field.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I was Robert Biel, um, and the reason I, with that direction is because, like, frankly, it's, it's Nick Bosa, it's Bryce Huff.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: And then,
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: As far as like true Eddressors, I ain't nobody else, right?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: My co-wiliums would certainly fill that role.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: You took our smarts, we'll certainly fill that role in, you know, like, run in, like, you know, base down situations.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_01]: But in terms of like, pin your ears back and go get the quarterback guys.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: There's just not anybody there, right?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you could insert somebody else's name here, like, I don't know, just Jake Jackson still have an outside shot at making this team eventually when he comes back.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I don't know.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't think it's necessary, like Robert Biel has to be the guy here, but to me, he's kind of like, again, symbolic of, there's a hole on that defensive line as like the third edge rusher and somebody like that with a great training camp could step into it, right?
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I wasn't really thinking Biel mostly because I genuinely don't really know if he has a,
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: like a way for it on this roster.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I agree with like sort of the sentiment that like this is that is a position where someone can take the take the wheel, you know, and really take, take control.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: So in that way, you're absolutely right, right?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like if Robert feels shows out in an incredible way, yeah, he has a chance to get like porn snaps because that's a position to be had.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: So completely agree with you there.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it could be Sam Okuwani.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I could have picked like any three or four different guys.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Bill just kind of jumped out to me.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, this is a guy that they drafted, you know, not in like the early rounds, but in a decent spot and has stuck around.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and like, but has never really made a name for himself.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: And if he can do that, then
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: And they really need somebody.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really what it comes down to.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, somebody else is stepping into that spot, whatever that might be.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Um, okay.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I think that's fairly straightforward.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: So the second one, and we can do, I don't know, did you, did you prep for both a veteran and a rookie in this one?
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can do both of them.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: I got one too.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, all right.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to look at a veteran and a rookie with the best chance to earn a starting job.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll start with my veteran.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: My veteran is Jason Pinnock, the safety who for an inner sign this off season.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, frankly, it's just like if you look at the roster.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jair Brown, we talked about him last time.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe he can step back up.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's probably going to have a chance to be a starter back there.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: if he gets beat, then he gets beat.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: Mount Mustafa will be out for a period of time, rehabbing.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: George Odom is fine back there, but really you prefer him as a, as a special team's guy and Jason Pinnock kind of stands.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the guy with the most starting experience in the league and who's worked with throughout what's all before and it just kind of adds up to like he's a new guy, but he could, if I would not be surprised at all if he's the starter at
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: and one of the safety positions when week one rolls round.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Robert, that, I swear to God, that might, might pick exactly.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: Look at that.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it sort of goes to what you're saying, right?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's a position that is very unsettled in kind of the clear guy out of that pack who I'd select.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, totally agree with you.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was also thinking Jason Pinoc.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it just makes sense.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there are some other guys that they signed, like in the defense of back field, but they're going to be like, they're going to be special teams guys if they're going to make this team.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think is kind of the way to look at it.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like Pinox is going to be like, if he's here, then he's going to be a starter.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think that's just no way around it.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: What about for your rookie?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: So this is, in my opinion, I think this is an uninteresting pick, but I'm gonna go and make a Martin.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've got to just add a quick sideline back or just because I think that's like one of the few places where I think there's a true competition.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think the man is really like D-winters, but if there is a rookie who has the best chance to earn a starting job, I'd say it's definitely Martin taking over that week's sideline back in position and that's gonna be like,
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Unless they go and die in package, that's like almost every snap on defense.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an important position, but I think it's like one where Martin was drafted, excuse me, drafted with the expectation to sort of take the reins.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: So at Nick Martin.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, based on where they drafted him and based on what they've seen, what we've seen from him thus far, it seems like it's basically he and Winters job to fight over for the entirety of training camp.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: It'll just kind of see.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be interesting to see, because like Fred will get his
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: his training camp reps, but like in games, there's a real outside chance that they play together in preseason, which will be very interesting to see, like how that kind of dynamic works to kind of smaller guys.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really sure about the fit there, but we'll see how that rolls.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I think that's a really good observation.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'll also on the defense.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of difficult.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: They drafted a lot of defenders, so it's sort of makes sense that they would have to go that way.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whether or not you call this a starter, a starting position or not, I think it is in the in the modern NFL.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: I went with Upton Stout, the cornerback that they drafted a Western Kentucky, I believe, if I'm not mistaken.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think they really want to keep down an oil and the outside.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think they want Ronaldo green to be on the outside and they'll feel a lot better about that if they can if's up to the start can step in and be the nickel back like oh he's the guy like he's got it like they don't have to worry about it.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's certainly a case to be made that the almond oil nor is also their best is their best corner in a matter where you put him.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they're going to feel a lot better if they don't have to like move him back and forth like they have over the last couple of seasons like if he can just be like that's your spot on the outside or that's the guy that you're trailing or whatever they choose to do that.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: Because of can stout has stepped into that position.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would be ideal for them.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Um, now maybe it's somebody like a tray brown or something like that.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: That's also in play, but because I had to pick a rookie in this particular case, I went with, uh, with up and sat at the Nickelback spot.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: I totally agree with that.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: That makes sense to me.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's a like cornerback three is sort of an open competition, but you're right.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a beautiful weird competition, because John with her linores are good slot corners walls and outside corners.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 15:43[SPEAKER_00]: Are you putting will ignore it outside and then moving them inside?
- 15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Are you going to keep them outside the entire time?
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: It sort of changes the complexion of how we both aren't sure how they're going to approach like figuring out who the top three corners are.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: But definitely a good up and step.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_00]: One guy who I didn't mention, but I'm just like,
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I feel as though it's basically like a starter right now.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably Alfred Collins.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like although not officially, I remember the team yet.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: Interesting.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: But like I think that's probably the guy who seems most likely to be.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: like us quote unquote starter because he would be the nose tackle like it don't actually think they have a nose tackle right now so anyway it's just like you said there's so many defensive players that they've they drafted to like feel high leverage rules so it's not really cleared that like
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: like I think you could have chosen any of their picks and right what have been a good you could make a good case for it yeah if you were coming in here being like Jordan Watkins been like um okay uh or uh it was the James James Jones the James that right James the running back James oh yeah Jordan James that too many first names man uh like if you're like Jordan James can be a starter I'd be like okay well OX has leaving the building um
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: because then I'm like, oh, well, this is gonna be another season like last year and I quit.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty much how that goes.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think those are good observations there.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: So speaking of rookies, they drafted quite a few.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: I did not specify that it had to be a draft thickness, necessarily, but I went with, but the category here is rookie at risk of not making the roster.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I guess rookie most at risk of not making the roster.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I thought about this specifically in terms of like draft picks, but it could certainly be others.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but actual as we'll, we'll start with you.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I went with Junior Burrigan and this is just because like Junior Burrigan's path on the roster is going to be through special teams, particularly through returning.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: If he doesn't like,
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: If he isn't able to make the roster that way, I generally don't see him making the roster at all, especially because I think the undrafted free agent they signed as they in nailer I want to say is like such an athletic freak, like that's the kind of guy keep on the roster and sort of develop, right?
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: So Bergen is such a limited path and then you know, we mentioned Jacob Cowling will probably be someone trying to get like,
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be competing with you.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: He might be competing with you.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: We'll work your peer saw as well for these returning spots.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's going to be hard for him to showcase a particular unique talent to keep him on the roster, to compare it to all these other receivers who can return and do other things.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to have to be really spectacular as a return man.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: in order to stand out.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think there is a little redundancy with him and Cowing.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of interesting that you picked both of them.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I guess that was kind of what you were alluding to right with Jacob Cowing could be like, why does it for three or off the roster altogether?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: If Junior Bergen is like, oh, where did this guy come from?
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: It certainly could be a situation like that.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: But I would be surprised if that turns out.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: That is an interesting one and certainly like his draft position he was the last draft pick he sort of makes it
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of hope, maybe that's a situation where you're like, okay, well, hope he can pass through waivers and that could be a guide that you have on your practice squad throughout the season.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: You can develop in a little bit more.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_01]: I went with Marcus Sigol, Sigling, whose name worked.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know how to say his name?
- 19:56[SPEAKER_01]: I certainly don't.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: The safety out of Kansas State, which is interesting that I'm mentioning him only because we talked about the safety thing and
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: and the sort of unknowns of some of the other things.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's just a numbers game with him.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: Jair Brown, I think, certainly gonna make the team, even if he's not a starter, I'd be very surprised if they cut bait on him so quickly.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about Jason Pinock, George Odom, is likely gonna make the team.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think it's really one position, one spot between Richie Grant, Jalen Mahoney,
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: and then Seagull or Seagullay or however you pronounce his name sorry Marcus and I just I just don't know if like Richie Grant well well known as a pretty good special teamer and if that's Very similar to Junior Bergen like he's gonna have to to show out as a special teams player if he wants to because that's where he's gonna spend most of his time as a rookie if he makes his team and it's just it's hard because even though this is a
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: Even though safety is a thin position, they generally only keep four of them.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's hard to see a path for him to make the team off right off the bat, especially because like, if Malik Mishafo was like going to go in the IR or something like that.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: And so they had to put him on the fifty three-man roster that would make it even more complicated.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: There isn't extra spot here, I think, but I don't know.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be tough for him.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would agree.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: I would agree.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think that like, because safety is such a position of need.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: And like, you mentioned the names, but like, I just think there's more of a chance that like, seefully, I think that's how you say his name.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, forget it.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is able to sort of like stand out.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: as opposed to like some of the other positions, but I agree, right?
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like he's competing for one spot, maybe to, right?
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think the manners do a good thing of like not really holding on to a player if like someone else is clearly proven to be better than then.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_00]: So like he could be doubt a anyone on the safety position and like make the team.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I would agree, like
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: I would not like it's going to be hard just because you don't carry a lot of safety.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's really the main issue.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's less to do with the like player and more to do with the fact that there's a limited like opportunity here.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_00]: And at least like one to two of the positions are completely locked up.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like that.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: I like that as if you look at the
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're not gonna cut any of the defensive linemen that they drafted.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, pretty much all the defenders for the first, like, four picks or something like that.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: I think pretty well-feel locked in.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: And see, like, they just kind of feel like the first one on, it's like, yeah.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, that's a rough like that's going to be a tough spot for him.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: The other name that I thought about was the offensive linemen that they got out and late like late in the in the in the in the drafts to Connor Colby from Iowa Only because who knows like that that let's talk about this in a minute, but the offensive line he just like a late offensive lineman who
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it doesn't have a position yet.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: It just feels like such par for the course for the foreign owners with their draft picks lately.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: So he could be in the mix.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think he is a better chance of being in the mix for the offensive line depth and then other players might in their other positions.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I agree.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: I just sort of, because it's not a position that I think they have a lot of solidify talent in brain.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's sort of hard, right?
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like, on an objective scale, yeah, like, it's very unlikely that a late brand, like, offensive lineman makes a team.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: But, like, it's very, like, you just don't know until you see him play, right?
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think the beauty of a training camp to begin with,
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and then, of course, I didn't count Curtis work because he's probably going to go directly to the IR here in the not too distant future as he rehabs from an ACL, that he tore and then played football on last year, OXAS.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: Which, Greg, what's that nonsense?
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Malik Mustafa did it kind of as well.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, what's wrong with you, children?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of down.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, good for him, I guess, but
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Well, anyway.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: So those are the top three questions that we wanted to get to.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: So the other, the last kind of lens, and this, we might have already touched on some of this, but I think this opens up to some broader conversations and kind of see how this goes.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: So most interesting camp battle or battles, you can get, you can get broad with this.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: I have a couple.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: And so we can kind of go back and forth if you have more than one, I don't know.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I started the first one that I said pretty obvious based on what we talked about is the safety position.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think I think we know who the starters or would be if the season started today, but I don't know like.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's it could go in any other way.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's funny the only player that I feel really comfortable saying is gonna be a starter back there is the the guy who's new and we're both like yeah, he's gonna be a starter Do I feel like Jair Brown's like locked in to that spot?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: No, probably not I mean, would he be the other guy if we're if you were like pick a pick another player to put back there probably yeah, I guess But I don't feel strong about that based on his season.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: I really wish mount Mustafa were
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: healthy.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm I'm going to be watching that pretty closely and see if they what what comes out of that one.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: So that'll be my first one's pay attention to.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good one.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I agree with you.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'll go with my defensive one first.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: I I mean, I've kind of mentioned all
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: the main camp battle, some interested in already sort of through the other things I mentioned, but I'm really interested in how the weekside line backing position shakes out.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about this on the podcast, I think, of sort of a bunch in different sort of times, but for me, it seems like it's a really important position for the Forty Niners.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of like the last front Warner to be at his best level.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm really interested in seeing what exactly they, like, who gets that role?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: Is it winter?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: Is it Martin?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Does winter take that next step?
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: Is Martin looking like a potential steal?
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so many of the forty-nine there's like line backing graphics have look like.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I just think so much of the defense is going to revolve around the answer to that question.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just interested to see how that sort of shakes out.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think we've seen the best of Fred Warner when he has been, when he has been with someone else who's of high quality next to him.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: So when Drake Greenlaw's been there, we talked about this ad nauseam last year about how missing Greenlaw was.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like it made Fred a bad player.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: It just made him
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: a slightly worse, like he's not the best version of himself.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: So go with that.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'll agree with that.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: I have two others.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: One is kind of like a, is this actually?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: I can't battle to watch.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: And the other is an actual legitimate one.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: And the one, the question, one with the question mark is the kicker.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, like, is
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Moody really under pressure to lose his job to this offseason to the man whose name other name I have forgotten.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'll find it in a minute.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: This is really good work.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Greg Joseph there we go.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: Or is Greg Joseph just there to like put a little pressure
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: under on Jake Moody and hope that the diamond is resurrected out of it.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like with if Greg Joseph will generally beat Jake Moody would they actually make him the kicker and cut Jake Moody and move on.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's the question that I have.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't actually know the answer to that.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say yes, right?
- 28:51[SPEAKER_00]: I really want to say yes.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's very important that this is like a legitimate competition.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: However,
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: like, I don't trust them.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're like almost infatuated with moody to a point that is really just, it's really dumb because they're not like this with other positions.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: Generally not now.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, why is Kicker suddenly the place where your, this team is sort of like, oh, like, we really got to stick through him through everything.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you, like?
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_00]: That's like the one position where you, you don't have to be like that.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's lots of them.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's so many things.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you can, some of the best kickers are the guys you signed right before the seat.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's just, that's how, that's how it goes anyway.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_00]: I like, I agree.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_00]: I was actually going to mention that battle myself as sort of like the special teams battle I'm interested in.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 29:53[SPEAKER_00]: your sort of like concern is one that I also share.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's like are they actually going to treat it as a battle or is this just a chance for like moody to pretend to like have to lock in a little bit?
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it I think Joseph has to play such that there isn't really a way anyone can argue that like moody is not like
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like he has to be so much better than Moody.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's, which possible.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll see.
- 30:29[UNKNOWN]: Yep.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: What was your other, your other camp battle that you wanted to talk about?
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm just really interested in how the white receiver room is going to shake out.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a particular position, but as right now, I would say that they probably have one position locked down in John Jennings.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: When Brandon and I come back, he'll almost certainly get the other position, because I think it's important to sort of play for, even though the miners have been kind of frustrated, I feel, with, like, I use.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: He is also like, they also think he's a good player, right?
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't think he's a... There's a million.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, that's what they would pay less for him.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be playing.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be playing when he gets healthy and ready to go.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: Up until then, it's really a question of who are they going to put on the field of week one?
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Who's going to be settling in and getting those snaps?
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to integrate?
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: The rookie's more or less house during walk and it's going to fit in as I say a nailer going to like get opportunity because of his like freakish abilities just so many questions that I don't know what the answers to but I think.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: They've start they're shifting as a team and to team that like relies more in the past with Brock pretty and that requires like having a lot of receivers who can do different things.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be really interesting to see who's like, he was on the field when week one starts.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and you forgot Ricky Pearsal's, of course, as well as in that mix.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's going to be in the mix.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: The question is, where in the pecking order is he going to be, it's kind of the question there.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, totally agree with you.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: That is a something to watch out for for sure.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Um, for me, the one final thing that I
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: that I'll be paying attention to, it's just the offensive line.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Trent Williams will be back.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: Colton McEvid's will be back.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's pretty set.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think we feel pretty good to get the dominant tuning will be back.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: I assume they're going to leave them
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: on the left hand side and not mess with the work that was done last year.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: And we know that probably Jake Brendel will continue to be the center, at least for one more year.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just opposing a change that happened there.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of questions about who's going to be the right guard is Jake Brendel actually going to be the center.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the two things kind of watch for me.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Is there an opportunity for like, is Ben Bartch going to just kind of slide in as the right.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: As the right guard is defensive or referred, going to get another chance there, or is he going to be like the swing tackle.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: This Connor Colby, who we talked about earlier, going to chance here.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: Andre Diller who they brought in kind of reluctantly after the the weird situation with.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: the other tackle that they use.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, DJ Humphrey's that happened.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_01]: That was super bizarre.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of names here as they're often are, but where everybody will fit.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: I feel pretty confident about like three fifths of the lines right now in terms of like, they're there.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty much William Spuni and McKibitz, like that's their spot.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: Bremble.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: That could be a talk as cheap kind of situation and maybe there's somebody else there.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then the right guard situation is wide open.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm gonna, I think for me, the only difference is I would probably say, I think Brando's spot is secure.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think, I'm about like, ninety percent shirts just to get you.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yeah, I mean, do I want it to be secure?
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: Not really, but I think it is, like, I think they're pretty much set.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: That, like, he'll be, he'll be the center.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's all about like the other guard position.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's, it's an interesting guard position, because I'm pretty sure
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: That, like, Poonie played right guard.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: So it's left guard.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right Aaron Banks was that's going to be.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, right.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: Which is an interesting guard position, right?
- 34:40[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's right next to, it's right across from, well, right next to Trent Williams.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: So it's sort of changes the dynamics because Williams is so good, like, by himself.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's sort of, you ask different things from that guard.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, banks, we all thought was fine, like you played well.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think he was ninety million.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: Not that's like neither here nor there, but it's a good sign of like the limited guard play quality in the NFL, right?
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: That like that the forty-nineers are trying to
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: approximate so we'll have to like it's I think that's probably the most wide open that like I don't think a single person barch maybe has like a bit of a head start yeah only because he looked pretty good when he played their last year I think that's kind of where the head start would be for me exactly but I don't think like he has like I think it's anyone's game that I also think that like Chris Forster sort of a
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's a bit of like his approach to these battles and to like offensive line coaching.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like unique.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I really don't know how it's gonna go.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like I have no sense of like how the pouring out is gonna take this, which is exciting but terrifying for sure.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think right there with you.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well that was a, I think a pretty decent run, run through of things.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: Again, we're just about
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: five days away from rookies reporting and then I think like five or six days after that the rest of the rest of the team.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_01]: Actually as do you have any final thoughts on this one before we wrap it up?
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, there's probably like a pachillion things there.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: that are going to happen that we haven't even talked about.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that to me is the fun part, right?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: Is that like there's so many different parts of training camp, that will matter, and that will like pop up different battles, different sort of situations that arise.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: Like we didn't even talk about like how's a briseph going to fit in on the team, things like that.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, it's just, it's a super fun time.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very excited.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think everyone should be too.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, we'll be paying Uber attention and talking to everyone.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: about all the time.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: I'm the site in on the podcast as well.
