Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: New birth missionary Baptist Church pastor Jamal Bryant, who led a national boycott against Target.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_04]: Target is the only Fortune 500 company that got a hood nickname, Tajay.
- 0:14[SPEAKER_00]: Target admitted that their sales were down almost 4% last quarter and they specifically admitted that it was due in part to your boycott.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_04]: Target's betrayal we took personal.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_04]: This was the most significant boycott of black people since the Montgomery Busboycott 70 years ago.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_04]: I would love to hear your thoughts on that Drew ski skit.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_03]: Somebody in the congregation asked why I'm wearing a Christian to go and Christian loop
- 0:43[SPEAKER_03]: Because I'm a Christian, and I walk in the blood of these girls to play.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_04]: Black people are the only people in the world who have no reference for their own faith.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_04]: Twenty-one nations in Africa have now been marked that they will not get passports.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_04]: Black people made Nike's court.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_04]: I can't tell you a black tennis company that does 10 million, which is less
- 1:11[SPEAKER_04]: that would Jordan personally does a hunt.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_05]: Welcome to the social group podcast.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_05]: Man, we find dope people to do dope stuff.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_05]: And today is no different.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_05]: This man has...
- 1:23[SPEAKER_05]: Takin' down a billion dollar corporation.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_04]: Man, I'm tryin' every day, every day I'm tryin'.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_04]: I thought you'd Jamal Bryant, what's up with, how are you?
- 1:32[SPEAKER_04]: Man, I'm glad, this is a long time coming.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_04]: Too long.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_05]: We're riding it, don't we're off then.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but you got a common cause of street.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_04]: You gotta come over to the man.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_04]: Come on, I can't just come over to your house.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_04]: You gotta come see your neighbor.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_04]: I can't wait, man.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_04]: No, for sure.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: How are you, man?
- 1:48[SPEAKER_04]: Man, I'm doin' great.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_04]: I'm doin' great, better than I expected.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_04]: And I think, well, how did you expect to do?
- 1:54[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't know what was going to happen in the Trump era.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_04]: I had no clue.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_04]: This is uncharted territory.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_04]: This is the electric slide backwards.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_04]: No, really.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: And I think a lot of people who considered themselves leaders or even prophetic voices did it in environments that were affirming, not where they really felt threatened.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that in this unknown Minneapolis looks like Montgomery, so I really had no clue, but you know, this is a good time for people to come together.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_05]: Good.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I want to talk about what happened with you leading this revolution of people.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_05]: So I have been to target since.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_05]: And I got a target gift card that's been in my car for like two years.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_04]: Listen, let me just hold it for you so you not tempted.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_04]: I can't bring it to you, when is it?
- 3:01[SPEAKER_05]: the black sea, the black sea, the black sea, like I thought it was in there.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_05]: But I don't even know what sparked it exactly.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_05]: I kind of have an idea, but I want to get your perspective, what sparked your involvement?
- 3:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_04]: So a super-base system attorney became a Williams in Minneapolis.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_04]: Many of you know her, she was arrested because she was one of the protesters at the church in Minneapolis.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_04]: she initiated the target boycott.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_04]: I did the target fast to walk alongside her because I felt as if the black church had become mute and hadn't done anything in social engagement and development and saw a lane for the black church had become involved.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: Embarrassingly, the black church done
- 3:55[SPEAKER_04]: So if it's not in charge, we ain't showing up because we need to know who going to be on that night.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_04]: So I carved out the target fast to get black churches and black Christians involved because you've got a generation that don't see the relevance of the black church.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_04]: This is the largest demographic of black people since we've been in America who don't go to church with 24% Why do you think that's the case?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_04]: you have to look at historically where the Black Church has been.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_04]: So, going back to Montgomery's civil rights, every night of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, they were at a church.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_04]: The church has no longer become the center of the movement or the conscience of pushing back is an aside.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_04]: I say to people when I travel around the country to show you the shift if something happens in Atlanta The press is going called kill a mic T.I And then me I In a civil rights movement nobody was asking what this smoky rabbit thing
- 5:11[SPEAKER_04]: about water fountains.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, nobody wouldn't know the David Ruffinson at the lunchkown in Greensboro.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_04]: And so our voice in our position has been compromised because we're not really speaking to the issues.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_05]: my idea would be that what the church has turned into and I would love to hear your thoughts on that Druce's Druce skit because I believe his art was imitating what's happening now and it's not that right now I believe and I know you've been doing this for a very long time
- 5:52[SPEAKER_05]: Actually, I've been using my friend Brandon Brandon.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_05]: Brandon Abraham's in Jacksonville, Florida, and he took me to a church that she was at.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, a church in Florida?
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: No, my best friend passes there, so I probably preached there.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_04]: He must have been there.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_05]: So he's just telling me all about you and like, he was guys amazing.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_05]: This was ye, I mean, psh, maybe what my 40 had to be 20 years ago.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh wow, like that.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_05]: And I was like, man, it's guys amazing.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_05]: But now I believe a lot of people are choosing to build a church based on a career choice.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_05]: Not necessarily a calling, not necessarily even an understanding of the Bible.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_04]: Let me let me pause you midstream.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_04]: So, we had a grave misservice because of green leaf.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_04]: So people think that most churches are mega churches, 78% of black pastors are bivocational.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_04]: So the majority of pastors driving for UPS during the day work on a construction site is the very small number that our mega churches and we presume that that's the normative.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_04]: The average church in America only has 50 people.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_04]: In that church your grandmother's church is trying to figure out whether they're going to pay the drama or pay the secretary.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_04]: They're not in no helicopters and in no black suburbans, they try to do the best that they can't.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_05]: But I'm just, I don't think, again, not even for money.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_05]: There are a thousand self-proclaimed pastors on the internet.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, you know, that just having, they see a scripture that they give you a motivational speech about that ones.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just saying, I think, uh... Because preaching is the only profession that doesn't demand certification.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_04]: So you can just get up and say that you were preachers, you ain't read nothing, study nothing, been ordained by anybody.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_04]: And you can't do that in any other profession.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: Just people just get a conjuring and go live.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I'm doing, 20 days of prayer.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_04]: Like, oh, that's my leader right there.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so I think that we've got to have a high standard of what that profession means and what it represents.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_05]: So, where do you think the root of, let me ask this question, why do you think you, in this season of the target boycott, why do you think the whole world started to listen to you in this season?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_05]: Because maybe somebody else was trying to target something else, and work, why do you think that happens?
- 8:38[SPEAKER_04]: I think a couple of reasons, one, there was so few voices coming from the black church.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_04]: Not that mine was the loudest sort of clearest, but I was operating source magazine used to have unsigned hype on the last page.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_04]: She is the artist that didn't have a record here.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_04]: So it wasn't many mega pastors that were speaking to what was taking place.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_04]: That was one.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_04]: Second is, I'm embarrassed that at 53, I'm considered a young leader.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: So I've outlived Martin, Malcolm, but we don't pass the baton and so when you look at the Reverend Jackson's of Reverend Shoppton's, Reverend Shoppton is in his 70s, Rem Jackson is 80.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm the young guy because black leaders have not passed the baton and part of the problem day is that black leadership never prepared succession we only brace for assassination.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_04]: So we are so used to our leaders dying that we have very few models of us preparing our replacement.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_04]: And so I came through, I'm in the in-between of the civil rights movement and black lives matter.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_04]: I come right in that vortex in between it.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_04]: And so I am the bridge to the young guns who are coming behind me, but just don't have the platformer to stage yet.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, I would love for you to go a little bit deeper.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_05]: Why you think the whole world began to follow you.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, obviously you are articulate.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_05]: And but there's we've tried this before.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, we just stopped shopping at a place.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, next week we go back.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think it's tough.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, time and is everything.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_04]: Number one of the Fortune 557 companies that pulled out, target and you do this better to me.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_04]: is the only Fortune 500 company that got a hood nickname, Tajay.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_04]: Nobody's called Disney Dance.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we embraced Target in the family.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_04]: Like, oh no, y'all supposed to be with us.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_04]: And so Target's betrayal, we took personal.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_04]: It was all together different than anything else that I can put my hands around.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: We, we admitted, people who don't go to Nordstroms was bragging, they go to Target.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: They walking around with target bags.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_04]: You don't see niggas walking around with a wall in my bag.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_04]: So our connectivity to target was all together different.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_04]: Then it was the perfect storm on how do we push back against this system.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: That Trump is introducing.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_04]: And wanted to know how do we do it because different from the civil rights movement.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_04]: If we get arrested today, you ain't home for dinner.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_04]: you don't know when you come back out.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_04]: So I can be a conscientious objecter without putting my body on the line.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_04]: So it was safe space, but I was a part of a much broader collective movement.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_04]: Imagine what Montgomery Busport could have done if they had been in it.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_04]: buses everywhere would shut down.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_04]: But one city was able to do it.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_04]: And so we were able to do it on the 70th anniversary of Montgomery and ride the wave and tip our hats to the ancestors who went before us.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_05]: Do you ever feel a threat?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I mean, like real, I don't know real threats.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: So a couple of things happen is last February in the White House, they held up pictures of meat posters of my picture in their black history month program.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_04]: Now Dave here's what's crazy.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_04]: they held up my picture.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you've ever been to the White House, but you've got to go through security, worse than at Hart's field.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_04]: You got it.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_04]: That's that a lot.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_04]: So the question is, how did you get these posters with my picture through security on signboards?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: It's three of them in there.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_04]: And what triggered me is they held up these pictures after announcing that Patel Cash has just been confirmed had it at FBI.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_04]: So they changed, get them, hold him accountable, hold him responsible.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_04]: Now, he's was funny Dave.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_04]: I landed in Atlanta when I landed my phone is blown up.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: And as for hey, what's up, they said, hey, your pictures in the White House for the Black History program.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm Nicky Giovanni, ego-tripping.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'm thinking I'm being honored.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_04]: How's it?
- 13:46[SPEAKER_04]: Did I put my picture in the White House?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm walking through Conco C. And I'm seeing it on C-span in the airport.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_04]: April Ryan called me as White House correspondent and saying, get out of public space.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_04]: What?
- 14:03[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_04]: That was the very first time that I really felt that it was real.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_04]: And we had to really ramp up our security at the church, my security, because there's a whole lot of Trump zealots.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't really feel the threats transparently until the death of Charlie Kirk.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_04]: Charlie Kirk was murdered and the people who are part of his group turning point USA put out a statement that Charlie Kirk was this generation's malt Luther King wild so I push back
- 14:47[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_04]: No, bro.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_04]: Let's revisit this.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_04]: That's all.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't say I'm glad he died or I'm glad.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_04]: But let's not compare him.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_04]: White pastors were preaching against me from their poor pit.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_04]: Really?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_04]: Passes in our Australia.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_04]: Our phones was blowing up.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_04]: We had people come outside to the church who was
- 15:15[SPEAKER_04]: I need to not be preaching and I'm demonic because I'm a Democrat and it was, it was fantasy island without tattoo, I didn't know what was happening because I hadn't seen anything like that in real time of standing up for what it is that you believe.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_04]: I had to outburst of security stuff that we had to see when I traveled to other cities,
- 15:43[SPEAKER_04]: They were making a blogger, a deity, you didn't do anything for human rights to make that kind of comparison to Martin Luther King Jr. in a really show me that we weren't even in 2025, we were in 1955.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_05]: every issue you need to now stand up for.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_05]: Because that we will have an expectation.
- 16:18[SPEAKER_05]: Something happens.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, you need to do what you did for Target.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, for this right here.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_04]: No, I think Triple A says in page three, the best way to avoid accident to stand your lane.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't want to be an ambulance chaser that I'm running after every issue.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_04]: I think that you got enough space and you've got enough people who can occupy otherwise.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_04]: If I followed that logic, I wouldn't be with you today.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'd be a Minneapolis.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think that you got to figure out what is your lane and stay the course so that you don't get hit by distraction.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, but I don't know if I agree with the fact that we have enough people standing up for anything.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_05]: I agree we should have four people and how do we get that because we don't have leaders but we don't even have we don't even have armed big groups because don't nobody want to follow one leader wow now a day yes no it's true everybody's like they want to solo project I don't mean but I don't even know if you have an assistant pastor yeah three you up there three at least two of them like yes that's gonna be me
- 17:32[SPEAKER_05]: That's just the world we're living in, and their friends, or people in the congregation, like, I love when you come up, and it's a ego thing.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_05]: How do we raise leadership in this type of climate?
- 17:44[SPEAKER_04]: I think that we've got to move from singular leadership to roundtable leadership.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'll bring people together too.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_04]: I'll really say, okay, what are you going to deal with?
- 17:57[SPEAKER_04]: What is your focus?
- 17:58[SPEAKER_04]: I give an example.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_04]: I civil rights organizations, historic civil rights organizations, are really not putting a flag in the ground on immigration.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_04]: We call ourselves African Americans.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_04]: And so we got a responsibility to the diaspora.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm going to ask you, you industries like I am, where is the movement
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: 250,000 Haitians, 21 nations in Africa have now been marked that they will not get passports, that you can come in.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_04]: And so as the world is getting smaller, our consciousness is still colonized.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_04]: We can't talk about being a global market in the global marketplace, and when I speak in the global issues,
- 18:54[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about Chicago.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_04]: You know, how many people are coming to me saying, hey, Pastor, I'm not with Minneapolis.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_04]: That's not my fight because I'm a citizen.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_04]: No, the reason why Dr. King became unpopular is when he moved from thinking just about Montgomery and spoke out against Vietnam.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_04]: when he spoke out against Vietnam and said, hey man, what are fountains of you?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_04]: Don't get into warfare issue.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_04]: Think about when it is that Muhammad Ali formula Cassius K becomes a enemy of the state.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_04]: When he says, Vietnam ain't never done nothing to me.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_04]: It was the people that were here.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_04]: When we become global, it really enhances what it is that we're doing what we're supposed to talk about.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_04]: Black businesses have got to think about, hey, if I'm not getting market share in the States, why has no one talking about their three stock markets in Africa?
- 19:52[SPEAKER_04]: and we not invested in none of them.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_04]: We not trading in any of them.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_04]: Sisters, just file bankruptcy.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_04]: As the number one black makeup company in America got a balloon payment.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_04]: We just gonna let them file bankruptcy.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_04]: Look up, the name just escapes.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_04]: We gonna have it.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody Google that for me.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_04]: My wife was telling me about it this morning.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_04]: And she said, what you gonna do to help them?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, man.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_04]: I was like, hold on, I like that make that, yeah, you gotta fix it.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, so I think that we gotta figure out how do we undergo, fine carry, ask a way it is.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: But I think we gotta, if you say it, I don't know.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_05]: What's the name of the company?
- 20:41[SPEAKER_05]: Pat McGrath left, I never heard of it.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_04]: They had a balloon payment, they was making like 500 million a month.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_04]: God, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they was killing it.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_04]: God, Lee, I've never even, I just got it this morning.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_04]: I just got it this morning.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and I think regrettably in the space I am in, we only talk about economics regrettably.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_04]: for crisis and not for planning.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_04]: So we got to figure out how do we get enough money for Mars Brown College?
- 21:20[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we got to figure out what do we do, Barbiscoche College, just how to present, just put out a press release.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_04]: They don't have enough money for payroll.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, we think about how it was in Hampton and Clark and Florida and him, but these smaller colleges are getting ready to get gutted at the base.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_04]: Here's the reality people are asking, well, watching what can I do.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_05]: you're enjoying an episode, right?
- 21:47[SPEAKER_05]: But I know you're a entrepreneur and maybe you're having a challenge building your business, but there's only four things you really need to focus on, where any one of these four are off, you're going to have a problem in your business.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_05]: One is cash flow.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_05]: You have to have a cash flow model, many people.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_05]: start with a good idea, but you never really think about the cash flow model of your business, too, is content creation.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_05]: In this day and age, you're going to have to learn how to create content.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_05]: There's no way around it so that you can build more cash flow.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_05]: Number three is coaching.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_05]: You need someone who can see what you can't see.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_05]: So when you can ask questions of, and bounce ideas off of, and also you need a community that community allows you to motivate,

- 23:13[SPEAKER_05]: There's a link below.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get back to episode 87% of Nick girls who went to HBCUs give nothing back to the school they graduated from
- 23:23[SPEAKER_04]: You're showing up for home coming, got all this paraphernal, you're at the tailgate and y'all ain't gave a dime.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_04]: And so a revolutionary act is how do I give back to this HBCU?
- 23:34[SPEAKER_04]: Our ancestors were so focused on education that when we came out of slavery, no shade on nobody, we didn't open casinos.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't open clubs, we opened colleges.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_04]: And now we need the state to keep them open.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_04]: That's an indictment on where we think our priorities are.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I mean, on the surface you would think, okay, we're doing something noble in a way where we want to educate people.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_05]: But not a government controls how we educate.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_05]: Who we educate things that I nature?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_05]: So you're saying we should have been more honest.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_04]: We should, and we got to expand it.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_04]: I stood up to my church two years ago, I'm a third generation preacher.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_04]: And I say, oh, your dad, my dad, my grandfather, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so I say it to my church 50 years of being in the black church.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_04]: I've never seen the black church give a scholarship to a young man that wanted to go to barber school.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_04]: Never seen the Black Church help a young lady become a nail technician, or esthetician.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_04]: The Black Church adopted W.B.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_04]: Dubois, and threw away book a tea.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: We act as if there's no value or honor in having a trade.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_04]: So your past A never stood up A.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_04]: Climbing stand up.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_04]: Climbing got two 16 wheeled trucks.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: Mm-hmm.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_04]: His doing 250,000 dollars.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, he in church, he's sitting there with a headset on.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_04]: What we love, Climbing.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_04]: We don't do anything to value people who don't come through a liberal arts education.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I think part of our responsibility in this space is saying the number of millionaires who didn't go to college.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_04]: who don't have a four-year former degree, but have making an economic impact, our community has got to be able to embrace it the same way.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_04]: Mother will come to me and say, can you talk to my son, he don't want to go to college?
- 25:36[SPEAKER_04]: Because they feel like they lose it all.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_04]: Like there's no other way for him to win than to be a conqueror, over a comma.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that we've got to expand the lexicon of what the success look like five people.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_05]: And you're an entrepreneur, yes?
- 25:51[SPEAKER_04]: I am.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_05]: And what?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_04]: Three ways.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_04]: So I do a lot of cellular solar projects in Africa.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_04]: What?
- 26:00[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_05]: Come on, be done.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's how I'm eating.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, for sure, solar projects in Africa.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, so when you look at the solar energy, the economic wealth index for Africa is three times what it is for us here in the States.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_04]: What does that mean?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_04]: The natural resources that are available for us in African terms of trade and development far eclips what they are for us here.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_04]: The percentage of black people who make over six figures I think is that 7% or 8% if you and I haven't discussion about billionaires, this is how low the number is so that people will understand it.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_04]: The number black bill you name is you and I together and I want to out of no I don't have his phone number we don't talk we never had hookah we never had a cigar right yes so I'm saying in this conversation you and I named the black bill you name as together we can the fact that we can name them is an indictment yeah
- 27:11[SPEAKER_04]: In fact, that we know their name, and 90% of them come out of entertainment, not out of business.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_04]: 90%?
- 27:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yes!
- 27:21[SPEAKER_05]: That's a huge percent.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_04]: Yes!
- 27:26[SPEAKER_04]: So when you deal with things like that, yes!
- 27:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yes!
- 27:31[SPEAKER_04]: Huh.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so when you deal with with Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, it's on oil, it's on minerals,
- 27:41[SPEAKER_04]: Oz is branding his license and deals yeah we are finding our come up or stuff we don't have a craft in nobody nobody thinks Jayden is a designer come on man not the reason to talk about business right
- 28:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, for real now all of a sudden is the lead design, and I love for real.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he thinks he's doing great for Louis Vuitton.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_04]: Amazing, but black design is a looking like hey.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm over here, black people are figuring out how do you sell brands, not concepts, Kevin Hart, just so does name on how does that you move it into branding, what's the league, the young man from TikTok, so he can be so 900 million dollars.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_04]: to have access.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_04]: We don't want to talk about what is the go and tell of dealing with your brain?
- 28:54[SPEAKER_04]: Desi, I dear brother, right here in Atlanta.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_04]: It's now found himself compromised on Israel.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_04]: You tell them you all found a black comedian that that's who y'all gonna have take the fall of all of the entities in the nation.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_04]: So let's deal with it while we're here with a civil rights organization standing up for Desi.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_04]: They know about we just gonna let them take his whole social media platform down over Israel when all of these politicians are taking money from APEC, but does it you all are saying is the underground railroad?
- 29:31[SPEAKER_04]: On skits?
- 29:35[SPEAKER_04]: He's the government threat.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_04]: Y'all, y'all ain't serious.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, so let me ask you.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_05]: So what I see that do you think this is a silly question,
- 29:48[SPEAKER_05]: He doesn't, he's not like a political figure thing.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_05]: And he's a wild one.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_05]: He automatically be targeted and this could just be somebody pick their right number.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, he has a heavy influence.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_04]: They have always been trying to get into the black database.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_04]: They gave them somebody.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_04]: Take Dessie.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_04]: Oh.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_04]: Ain't nobody going to fight for you, man.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_04]: Going to be no protest for Dessie.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_04]: Ain't no, it's easy low hanging fruit.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let's do it the week after the Drew ski skits.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_04]: We don't even understand what our power and what our influence is.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_04]: There is no TikTok with our black people.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, yeah, we look at the number of bots that are on TikTok or foreign entities.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's almost a 63% Wow.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the people who they're on their everyday side kids.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I was in Florida the other day.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_04]: I said, hey, sister passed me yesterday.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_04]: I said, hey, damn, place you got on this kill.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_04]: And where you get them?
- 30:50[SPEAKER_04]: Tick-tack shot.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_04]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 31:01[SPEAKER_04]: Wow, so it's becoming a whole different kind of marketplace, black culture influences everything.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_04]: But we got to figure out how does our influence from the numbers come into a real economic database?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_04]: Or are we doing it just for the likes and the shares?
- 31:20[SPEAKER_04]: But if we're not really doing a monetization, not of an individual, but of an institution or a system
- 31:32[SPEAKER_05]: So, you're saying, us in America, we think market brand, I sell you something, of course, whatever.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, but Africa you're doing business more of an infrastructure.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_04]: That's correct, level.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, so we got to go back from you from Jersey.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, okay, so our friend of yours in Jersey, I don't know.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_04]: had his own cell shop kiosk in the middle of the mall.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_04]: He was killing it.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_04]: This is the right after motor all the two way pages.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_04]: This is right after next tale.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know a guy, no credit yet.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_04]: He gonna get you this page.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_04]: All of those stations have been gone.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_04]: So black people who are our peers have no forray or entrance into cellular space.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_04]: You had three friends and jerseys on from Baltimore.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_04]: Who was selling next to us?
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_04]: Who was selling Motorola?
- 32:33[SPEAKER_04]: Our next closest window was T-Mobile.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_04]: They shut us down.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_04]: Most of the people who watch our podcast, the thing they had to get off their credit was the account they had with Sprint.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: That's a thumb on man.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: That is a y'all playing around.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: You didn't even know you had credit to you had that blivers from Sprint.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_04]: No calls for you until after nine.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_04]: Don't call me this late.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_04]: No, not a clock.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_04]: Sprint was the downfall of the black man's credit report.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_04]: And nobody is supposed to print a countable.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_04]: Nobody.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody you ask and fix my credit.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's print is on there somewhere.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's on there.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_04]: I let it go away.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_04]: It was so bad.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_04]: I was signing friends up under my account.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, so we got to go back to the Solace of Bear Credit.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_05]: What are we doing right now, and sorry, or what can we do right now to be able to get into an infrastructure place?
- 33:34[SPEAKER_05]: It seems like everything's so locked up, and everything is market brand.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_05]: I got to create a product, if you create a community.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_05]: How do we get into that space?
- 33:43[SPEAKER_04]: I think that we've got to figure out how to monetize our genius and our creativity.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_04]: I'll speak a new some students at paying and said to them, nobody is pulling together.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_04]: The Harlem Renaissance happened during the Great Depression.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_05]: The Harlem Renaissance happened during the Great Depression.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_04]: So when our greatest poets, greatest books, greatest music came out, we were creating, and we got a figure out, we're going to create in this model.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_04]: History is going to be asking of our creatives.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_04]: What song did you put out when ice was separated in families?
- 34:31[SPEAKER_04]: History is going to ask, what novels was written?
- 34:34[SPEAKER_04]: while it is that people were being detained.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_04]: What was the sound that came out of the Caribbean and West Indies when people were asked to self-deport?
- 34:46[SPEAKER_04]: What was the church preaching?
- 34:49[SPEAKER_04]: when Jersey skit hit five million views in 24 hours.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_04]: We went online saying this ain't right, but were we creating any creative pieces?
- 35:04[SPEAKER_04]: Or are we going to say the same week that Jersey skit came out.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_04]: Jalen came out with red, red bottoms.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but don't don't miss the culture.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_04]: It's got to be more to it than in this moment where you're thoughts on this kit.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_05]: Well, okay, before you answer that question, the reason you're here is because I decided to start a podcast, so did I can have engaging conversations with people.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_05]: By the way, this video will be monetized.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_05]: I'll make money off of it.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_05]: You need to start a podcast too.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_05]: So you can have engaging conversations,
- 35:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like this one.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, which means you need to be a podcast summit 20-26 for the price of a cheap date With somebody that you don't even like like that.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_05]: You can learn how to start a podcast grow your audience build your business or use a podcast To build your brand to build your business.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_05]: You know it check this out.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: The podcast summit has been nothing short of a face And there's no better place to learn how to have a podcast Then podcast summit
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's more than just like a podcast conference, it's a community of people who actually want to learn and get better at entrepreneurship.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_04]: I thought Andy Warhol was right.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_04]: It was art imitating life.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_05]: I just said that too.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I thought it was funny.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_04]: Go ahead.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_04]: But I also felt bad.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_04]: Because black people are the only people in the world who have no reference for their own faith.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_04]: What I mean by that, you would never see a skin on that wise.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'll go differently.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_04]: You would never find a show called the real rabbis of Brooklyn.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: Right, you'll never find the real e-moms of Chicago, and we have so lowered the base of who it is that we are, that is a free fall.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_04]: And it's not to say, none don't ever have with the e-moms, or none ever have with the rabbis, but it is not a point of mockery.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that we have so lowered the veil that everything is free game.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_04]: So you got social media post that just have people shouting.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_04]: You got, I mean, the pages are dedicated to it.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, so there's no post page where you can find that they make a mockery of old people in the Moscow can no longer kneel down to pray.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, there's no, as any Muslim friends, you will never find anything about missing shoes at the Moscow.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_04]: for years, people just deal with you.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_04]: For years, and they've called them, go on.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_04]: But they never post in it, they've called them.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm saying, we got to have some safeguards to say man is anything sacred.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_04]: Do we reveal anything?
- 38:22[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, all of the debate that took place with Mars Brown two weeks ago, they let go of their president, then hide them back.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_04]: You got members of the board doing their own posts.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, they go on infighting.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_04]: You've been in Atlanta years.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_04]: I'm a returner, citizen.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_04]: I worked a more house came back.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_04]: They're not doing no post and you can't tell me everybody on the board at Emory agrees with every decision of the president But they're not gonna put it out.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_04]: No date.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_04]: That's why you in the board deal with it in the board home.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_04]: I don't want to know Yeah, I mean the the old saying is hey when you go to a restaurant you like never going to kitchen Because you don't want to see the messy takes yeah for you to get them lamb chops
- 39:17[SPEAKER_04]: So, let's leave some stuff in the boardroom.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_04]: We're sure.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_04]: I am figured out, but we do everything in public space out of an attention deficit that we think public outing is keeping it real.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_04]: And that's probably why a lot of Negroes identify with Trump, because he's got no decor.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_04]: He has no diplomacy.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't operate with any penash or class.
- 39:50[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that we've got to figure out how do we tighten up my grandmother would say your slip is showing.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that we got to have some closed or meetings to figure out how do we move to the next place.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_05]: Are you seeing that the church or Christianity itself is declining?
- 40:10[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_04]: Gen Z has got a thirst for God as a different than millennials.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_04]: They want revival to take place.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_04]: But it's not in the way that you would think they've written a word of God.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_04]: Their prayer life is increasing.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_04]: represent a two LPs on gang bangin and we and get a soul train of war first given out of the gun come on so we got a figure out we got a figure out how do we bring the church outside 87% of what Jesus did was outside of the church 87% of what the church does is inside
- 41:00[SPEAKER_04]: And so we've got to figure out how do we bring the gospel beyond staying glass windows and pipe organs?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_05]: Hmm.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_05]: In what way do you empower?
- 41:11[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, let me ask this question, too, because I get this a lot in my community, not a lot, but I have conversations about people who build businesses for black people.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, I'm a black man, I have a business for black people.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_05]: And I struggle with that some time.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_05]: why.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_05]: Because sometimes I believe it's just an easier path for somebody.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_05]: It's an easier path.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_05]: Like I know Black people, so I'm going to make it for Black people.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_05]: However, I made this for Black people, but I'll sell it to whoever.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_05]: But on the other side, it's like isn't the goal to build something and maybe be the Black person that can be the inspiration sometimes I built.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: Depending on where you live, what supermarket you go to, there's a section in that supermarket, you don't pay attention to, that only sells kosher products.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_04]: It is only for Jews.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_04]: So that grape juice.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_04]: And it is not under FDA surveillance because it is not for Americans, it's for Jews.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_04]: If you go in any major city and go to a China market, the Chinese products in there is for them.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_04]: It is only
- 42:29[SPEAKER_04]: in our community, where we have to think about serving us last, because of two reasons.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_04]: One, we need that we want the validation of outside.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_04]: If we've got dependent on who you talk to, two or 12 trillion dollars worth of spend of power, I just need to get that.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_04]: Let me try to figure out that.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_04]: I'm in the house.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_04]: I see you twice a year in past, right?
- 43:07[SPEAKER_04]: Black people made Nike's coal.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I agree.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_04]: And all of the economic development we do, I can't tell you a black tennis you company that does 10 million, which is less that would Jordan personally
- 43:30[SPEAKER_04]: So, John does 135 million dollars a month, a month.
- 43:36[SPEAKER_04]: And none of that until he give it to a hospital, some squaw, comes back through black hands.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_04]: We got to figure out how do we run the play for us?
- 43:46[SPEAKER_04]: There is stuff that we do, that is for us.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_04]: It is not by y'all shout out to Fubu, send me my check.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_04]: But you know, I mean, do rags is made in Taiwan.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, for sure.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_04]: In sense, in sense is made in Indonesia.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_04]: What is outward that comes out of us?
- 44:07[SPEAKER_04]: Without fried chicken.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_05]: Which I'm...
- 44:10[SPEAKER_05]: Which I'm with under percent, but even in the Nike example, what they did was build something and then leverage black culture, which is what all companies do.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, they build something that they leverage black culture.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_05]: It's not like I'm building this company for white people.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_05]: So, and I'm not saying however someone builds their business, they build it.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_05]: But how can we...
- 44:34[SPEAKER_04]: How can we think global when our messaging is because we make it cool and I'm going to say this and I'm a challenge Those of y'all who watch and to go find out for yourself because it's going to be embarrassed and shameful and hurtful The majority of rap music is bought by white teenagers It's not made for them
- 44:56[SPEAKER_04]: but they want to be associated.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_04]: So when two chains going to boof, he ain't thinking about the white key in Alfred Ratter.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_04]: But that's whose download and it.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm saying to you, because black people influence everything, we can make it for us, they still going to come.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_04]: The reality is black people started wearing hair extensions.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_04]: The Indians started selling us hair, day of people, black people started doing it, extensions on that nails, the Filipino said, okay, let's go and do it.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_04]: Black soldiers from World War II started doing fried chicken, Korean say it, let's get it, and we'll sell it in your community.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_04]: You can't buy fried chicken in the Korean community.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_04]: They're gonna take our stuff and then sell it back to us, and we eat in it in the car.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_05]: Come on, man.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_05]: So give me this messaging.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, there is a black owned, let's say, I don't know peanut shop.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, peanuts are, it's just, it's good food, right?
- 46:08[SPEAKER_05]: And I'm saying I'm building this
- 46:13[SPEAKER_05]: Of course, the intentionality, Fubu, for us, by us, they stood on it, saying, we made this, for us and us, not a culture takes it, but I think they were thinking so global, it's like, I'm going to focus on my people, and then let people take it, but I think a lot of people think in their communities just safer or easier to set a black people and we don't want to expand, I think that's how I look at it.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_04]: So Fubu,
- 46:43[SPEAKER_04]: was available in the neighborhood, it blew up when Macy's bought it.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_04]: Oh man, you can get fullbow in Macy's.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_04]: Y'all remember I know it's a taboo for me to see it out loud young men with Sean John went to macy's And everybody got on the lowest west and I remember we was already a friend.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, that was it We had made it.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_04]: We got to figure out how do we affirm ourselves without outside validation To say that this was worth something But that black people and let me say as a word of caution
- 47:21[SPEAKER_04]: When black people are doing business, stop asking for a discount, or being suspicious.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_04]: You, you not, Nick rules what around with van cleaf.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_04]: You don't even know what that is.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you ain't doing no diamond check on it.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_04]: You just go with it.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that we've got to stop being suspicious of one another and learn how to affirm each other and not look for other people's validation that I don't need to start away to say to this great, yeah.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_04]: This and my man, let me go with that and push that forward.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_04]: And I think that when we recalibrate that mindset, it's going to push us in a different vantage point.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_05]: So maybe give me a perspective too, because I, you can't a podcast summit last year in 90, something percent black, because I'm a black, but it started from, I went to another conference.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_05]: It was two other podcast conferences in the country, and it was all white.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_05]: Like, what are those events where you see another black person?
- 48:25[SPEAKER_05]: Well, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm, you know what I'm,
- 48:52[SPEAKER_05]: And if I'm going to grow, I'm looking at it in a Nike model.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to get other people from different cultures, y'all bring your audience to this hub where it will probably always be mostly black.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_05]: But I'm saying the way I think about it is it, I don't want, I want, I love people period, because I'm not, I'm not that, but I want to make sure that I'm even saying it,
- 49:19[SPEAKER_05]: Or I want to get a sounding bar from somewhere that I can, it's okay to grow something globally and get it out of my back yard, even if it involves other cultures.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the number one commandment Jesus gives us love your neighbor is the catch and she love yourself.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_04]: And so much of what we're pushed for is to love our neighbor.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_04]: but we're never challenged to love ourselves first.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_04]: This conversation you and I are having would never be ahead on a Jewish podcast.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_04]: We got to love ourselves to such an extent that everybody is secondary, Trump won the election on one thing, America first.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_04]: And we figured out it was white America, but it was a dog whistle.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_04]: that we come first, so as a consequence, everybody around me at the table will look like me.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_04]: Let's dismantle D.Y.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_04]: Let's try to slander the name of Martin Luther King Jr. Let's gut the funding of these HPCUs.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_04]: Now, and all of what has happened, his poll for his base has maintained the same and has signed, he did what he promised.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_04]: America first.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_04]: So it wasn't on substance.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_04]: It was on packaging.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_04]: It was 1.8 million undocumented people in Florida.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_04]: 1.3 million undocumented people in Texas is 700,000 in Minneapolis.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_04]: Why do I say an in Texas?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_04]: Why are they not in Florida?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_04]: Because those are both Republican governors.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_04]: So let me go in the back battle ground of Kamala Harris is running mate, because I need to finish this off.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_04]: And he plunged him so bad into the ground, he said, I ain't even going to run for reelection.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_04]: Y'all playing chess.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_04]: Y'all they playing chess.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_04]: You got to look at the moves.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_04]: The whole Somali daycare thing is fostered by Karen.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_04]: Since when do white people care about who babysitting Somalyan kids come on man they've been gutting head start programs across the country.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_04]: So why is that the issue?
- 51:50[SPEAKER_04]: I've got to do a last stab in the eye to the Kamala regime and it's happening in broad daylight.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_04]: So you tell me is more immigrants and many
- 52:04[SPEAKER_05]: Then Miami, if you've been to Miami, let's show, come on, ain't that a button?
- 52:11[SPEAKER_05]: Say that in Tony Hall, let's show.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_04]: Austin, come on man, no.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_04]: No, they're trying to ramp it up.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_04]: And all of the places they're targeting are led by Democratic leadership.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_04]: You don't go to Chicago?
- 52:31[SPEAKER_06]: Mm-hmm.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_04]: No, it's happening right in front of us, and we have to have somebody who was interpreted in the tea leaves for us that is not down the street.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_04]: They go and door to door and they not sell in girls' cow cookies.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, all of the people that have been deported or being detained and you ain't here nothing.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_04]: No, I told my wife, hey,
- 52:56[SPEAKER_04]: This is the lawyer's number, this is my best friend number, this is the line brothers number.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_04]: This is the National Association of Blacks.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_04]: If I go missing, sound the alarm.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_04]: Don't say Jamal took it for the team.
- 53:12[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, no, everybody, yeah, no, for sure.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_05]: You think, do you take on that mantle as I am going to be the person that leads our people out of this?
- 53:27[SPEAKER_04]: I think I'm going to be one of them.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to be one of them.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_04]: To make a Mallory is one I'm Nina Turner's, one of them.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_04]: Jasmine Crocket is an old limit soldier that people in every community who are banging the drum sound in the alarm.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_04]: But I want us to be clear that we don't let media pick our leaders.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_04]: The most influential pastors in every city, I've got to say this, the most influential pastor of every major city does not have a mega church, but he knows how to put that community together.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_04]: I've got to remind people Dr. King never passed it more than 400 people.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_04]: would have a city he was in never had the biggest church, but from a church of 300 people shook the world.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_04]: Don't look at the big stage to make the big impact.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_04]: Sometimes it's going to be the small apulpit that's going to make the largest transformation.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_05]: I think there's going to have to be a leader though.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_05]: A single voice that brings everybody together, which I think
- 54:44[SPEAKER_05]: Who creates the plan?
- 54:45[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that plan happens at the nights at a round table.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't fit the round table together.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_04]: Well, social proof.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, social proof may have to do it back in the day.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_04]: Tavis Mowley used to do the state of Black America, bringing all of Black fought leaders together.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_04]: I think that we are way behind time.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_04]: Project 2025 was built 15 years before Trump ever came in the office.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_04]: I told Memza, I church, can you imagine a plan being 10 years before it's executed when the average black family reunion camp vote on T-shirts?
- 55:31[SPEAKER_04]: We can't just outweather the Johnson's gonna wear red or blue T-shirts and who church we're going to gram my church or on the church?
- 55:39[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that we got to really come together in a concerted effort and figure out how we're going to pull the underground railroad above ground.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_05]: My question is, yes, who does it?
- 55:50[SPEAKER_05]: Because so everybody has their own plan and I think that is the biggest issue.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_05]: You're running a bunch of businesses to make us run our own thing and everybody's in their own silos, but until there's a person and I'm
- 56:08[SPEAKER_04]: They don't listen to me.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_04]: I'll see.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_05]: I'm just the podcast.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_04]: Let's see.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_04]: Let's give it a shot.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say, so that you can say that you invited them.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_04]: I think, however, Donald Trump's son, Baron, told him you're not going to win unless you start going on par chaos.
- 56:31[SPEAKER_04]: The group that you need, listens to par chaos, not the news.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_04]: Nobody has told Black politicians that.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm saying to you as the landscape is shifting.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_04]: So nobody's reading a newspaper.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_04]: Podcasts is now the new Black press.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_05]: I agree.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm saying invite him.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm putting my signature on to yours.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_04]: We invite you.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm serious.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_04]: I'm saying if you have all of those influential voices in that room and the demographic that they need for, I'm going to say for two areas, the people who don't vote, drum roll, and the people who don't go to church, is the same group.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_04]: The people who don't go to church and don't vote are the exact same group.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_04]: I, and so the biggest pastors are parcasters.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_05]: Who are the people who have the biggest, if you had to put together, this roundtable.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 57:38[SPEAKER_05]: Of the most influential, most the strongest voices in the country that you could just think I maybe you don't have a relationship with them or whatever.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_05]: Who will be on that list?
- 57:49[SPEAKER_04]: for passes or just in jam.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_05]: Period, if you, because you would have to think, okay, I gotta get some people from the black church.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's some influencers.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_05]: I guess some media influencers.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_04]: And I guess some billionaires.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_05]: Right?
- 57:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_05]: That's how we shape the room.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, that's shaped the room.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_05]: I'll say to people that you named, that are like voices, yes, who else would you strategically put at the table?
- 58:09[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_04]: So, I would put John Hope Brown at the table.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_04]: I would put Shawlamain at the table.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_04]: I put Jasmine at the table.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_04]: I put Brandon Scott at the mayor Baltimore at the table.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_04]: I put the mayor of Chicago at the table.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_04]: I put, I reset the Nina and Tamika at the table.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_04]: I will put Ben Crump at the table.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_04]: I will put, um,
- 58:38[SPEAKER_04]: who names I don't know, not because I've forgotten, but names I don't know.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_04]: I would with intentionality put two college students at the table.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_04]: The reality is, SELC was fallen off until SNIC won't beside it.
- 58:57[SPEAKER_04]: You've got to have students at the table, it is no revolution without young people.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_04]: And so you got to put some young guns at that table in every revolution, in every revolution young people got to lead it.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't know their names, but those that are kind of people I wouldn't have that table.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_05]: If this is going to be important, I think maybe we should put some thought into it and not just bring them to the table But it's such a heavy lift because you also need to devise and I'm saying you We we
- 59:37[SPEAKER_04]: Got to devise a plan, this is where we're going, and then you can get some of the minds to shape the plan, but if I also got to add, I'm bringing them up, I got to bring David John's to the table, because a lot of David John's is a critical voice for the Black LGBTQ community, because a lot of times we have these conversations,
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_04]: And ostracize a large demographic that is very valuable and active in our community, but we never count them.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_05]: Hmm.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_05]: You know what side note?
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_05]: In terms of the LGBT community and church folk, or your belief as a spiritual leader, where did they land?
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_04]: Love your neighbors, you love yourself.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_04]: I think everybody got access to the cross.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_04]: I'm grateful I still got access.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_04]: I'm serious.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_04]: As a serial adulterer, it formucated and divorciate.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_04]: I'm grateful I got a cross.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_04]: No, I'm grateful.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, great.
- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody has got to have access to Christ.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 1:00:59[SPEAKER_05]: So, we're going to put this table together.
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, it's probably the most important thing that we can do in a lifetime.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, think about it, like it's just nobody brings people together.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_04]: We have to, one of the missing integers that we have is we always call people to register to vote, but we don't train anybody to run.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_04]: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_04]: What do you mean?
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_04]: The only thing that they could in fact ridicule him on is that he wore a tan stop a pussy.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_04]: If Obama had as many wives as Trump had, or as many kids, or as many bankruptcies, or as many lawsuits, or as many felonies, he wouldn't make it to the city council in Chicago.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_04]: Come on, it's two different rules.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_04]: Two different playbooks, and you got to figure out how do you, you know, stack the chips.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_05]: This is a really strong and long conversation that needs to be had because there's so many, there's so many things that are like against us.
- 1:02:34[SPEAKER_05]: And I think the way the world is shaped in terms of social media, and I want down Lebanon to table.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_04]: I went down at the table, I won't roll them out at the table, dealing with a black press and the infringement of a black press.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_04]: You got to bring some of the generals who are alive to pass that baton down.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_04]: Andrew Young needs to be at that table.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_04]: You think of people like Rem Shoppton needs to be at that table.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_04]: can give us the playbook.
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_04]: You don't have to invent the wheel.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_04]: We just got to put spinners on it.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_04]: Shout out to LaTros pretty well.
- 1:03:25[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_05]: You know what I think, excited about, that it almost seems like a sea was planted.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_05]: And I think your mind is moving through the idea right now.
- 1:03:39[SPEAKER_05]: Oh yeah, it is.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_04]: No, we have to have it.
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_04]: When is the summit?
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_04]: July 2nd and 3rd.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_04]: Number two, you while we got to do it, talk to me.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_04]: I have not seen yet, and I say this with shame and embarrassment that is cringe-worthy.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_04]: I have not seen a strategy or a blueprint for the midterm elections.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_04]: Everything can flip in these midterm elections in July.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_04]: will be able to position everybody.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_04]: This is what we got to do.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_04]: By July, we will know exactly how many people need to be registered when white evangelicals decided they wanted to shift the landscape.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_04]: They said, let's run for school board.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_04]: Atlanta, we're both UNI, we called the Black Mecca, new Black Harlem.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_06]: Hmm, wow.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, man, you know to me.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_04]: I don't got a black mirror.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, we know city council members.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_04]: We got Senator Warnock.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_04]: And neither one of us, whether Ukraine gunned out here, it's gonna take you somebody who on the school board.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_04]: And I'm telling you, it's in no business and we got to put people together.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_04]: But both of us, no dynamic teachers.
- 1:05:11[SPEAKER_04]: no great educators.
- 1:05:14[SPEAKER_04]: And we never think, hey, you know what Lisa, you sure run.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_05]: Imagine man, so 3,000 people at this summit and we're all teaching people how to utilize their voice as a weapon to protect their community.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_05]: And if I'm being 100% honest, I have a goal and objective and I have a vision for the summit as well.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_05]: But through this conversation, I'm starting to realize how many people we're utilizing.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_05]: We're teaching people how to utilize probably the most dangerous weapon that exists today.
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:05:52[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, which are which is our ability to communicate and you just you just drove a whole another purpose and mission for the vision that I have in my head because it's deeper than teaching someone how to monetize the podcast.
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_04]: You will be sanctioning 3,000 activists.
- 1:06:16[SPEAKER_04]: That's how you got to look at it.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_04]: 3,000 activists are moving out when they leave their summit.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_05]: And imagine when it grows to 20,000 people that are all building their own following the voices get loud.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_04]: The election will not be the same.
- 1:06:32[SPEAKER_04]: History was going to record you.
- 1:06:36[SPEAKER_04]: You see, now you liked that.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_04]: Six guys.
- 1:06:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, history is going to record you.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_04]: When did the shift happen?
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_04]: July of 2026.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_04]: they're not going to be able to accredited to old-line civil rights organizations, powercasters, move the needle.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_04]: got it.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_05]: Got it.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_05]: I got it.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_04]: Do we miss anything?
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_05]: I don't brought it.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_05]: No, you did it.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, crazy, because I, like, I had some other questions, but now I can't even focus, you know, like, I was asking you a question a second ago and he was like, you know, it allows me to be at the table.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I was like, question 10 minutes ago, but it's like, it's a, it's a, it's a wheel running.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_05]: We're like, we need to do something.
- 1:07:23[SPEAKER_04]: July, 2020, 26.
- 1:07:26[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_04]: The revolution would not be televised, it'll be streamed.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_05]: Dr. Brian, thank you, man.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you, honor to be with you.
- 1:07:32[SPEAKER_05]: I appreciate you coming, like last year was just incredible.
- 1:07:36[SPEAKER_05]: We'd love to have you there too.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm there.
- 1:07:38[SPEAKER_00]: I have it.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_05]: We need to have a conversation with somebody.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_05]: I'm talking, John Hope Wright, or somebody like you.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_05]: Somebody that would be at the table.
- 1:07:47[SPEAKER_05]: It's gonna be good.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_05]: I thought, man, do we miss anything, anything else?
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_05]: We need to talk about it.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_04]: I got to talk about two things, talk to me.
- 1:07:54[SPEAKER_04]: We can write Billed Houses at our church.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_04]: at the church.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_04]: At the church.
- 1:07:59[SPEAKER_04]: New birth is the largest land-owning black church in America.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_04]: We're sitting on 365 continuous acres.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_05]: What?
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_04]: 365 continuous acres.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_04]: I've been at the church now.
- 1:08:16[SPEAKER_05]: When you say continuous, all one plotters, I'm on a plane.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_05]: I can just draw a circle around.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_04]: When you land from Atlanta you look out that left window, you'll be able to see opera.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_04]: So when I got there, we had obviously to make a church and a gymnasium.
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I asked my board, what message am I saying to the community?
- 1:08:41[SPEAKER_04]: We outside of Decay to, I said, we are saying to the community, we can shout in run, but we ain't doing no development.
- 1:08:51[SPEAKER_04]: So we start clearing the ground next month, oh wow, to build a hundred houses is our phase one.
- 1:09:01[SPEAKER_04]: I phase two, number one let me say to you, I'm excited about phase one and I need you to come walk through the land with me, I want you to see it, is I want to sell the houses only to millennials.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_04]: to re-invigorate the value of home ownership when Atlanta's becoming a rental community.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 1:09:24[SPEAKER_04]: That's number one.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_05]: Hold on.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_05]: That's not discriminatory.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, it's all laws.
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, it's discriminatory.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_04]: There's, I mean, there's no laws against them.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_04]: It's a whole lot of laws.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_04]: So let me tell you.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_04]: I slid in 60 days before buying came out of office, the secretary of her came and I walked him through.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_04]: I said, hey, this is what I'm going to do, but my page two balances me out.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_04]: So my page two is the first of his kind in the country.
- 1:09:59[SPEAKER_04]: is we're building sing your house.
- 1:10:02[SPEAKER_04]: Now the reason why it's great and I wanted to say it on your show for a reason is
- 1:10:12[SPEAKER_04]: America is graying because of medical breakthroughs.
- 1:10:17[SPEAKER_04]: People are living longer.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_04]: For the first time in American history, I want you to team to look it up, first time in American history, they're more 60-year-olds than 16-year-olds.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_04]: So they're more senior centers than they're our middle schools.
- 1:10:34[SPEAKER_04]: So we're building the first of his kind of senior center, Dave, you
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_04]: It's the only singer center in America for singers who have custody of their grandchildren.
- 1:10:47[SPEAKER_04]: One out of five of your friends, and I don't know none of them.
- 1:10:50[SPEAKER_04]: One of five of your friends was raised by a grandparent, but they can't go into ingesting your housing where the kids can stay with them.
- 1:10:58[SPEAKER_04]: Wow.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_04]: So we're building a multi-generational senior housing.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_04]: The third phase, yeah, we'll just be individual housing, but we're trying to build a community or village as it were for black people to grow and evolve and age on one plot.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_04]: So on our campus, we already have a health medical clinic.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_04]: So singers who are there, you just walk down the street, walk down the road is already
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_04]: So that we can't really expand and the reason why I'm bringing it up because your focus a lot is on economics is when we talk about black people, we often only talk about urban black people.
- 1:11:46[SPEAKER_04]: And the reason why I didn't want this podcast to end is there a lot of rural black churches that are sitting on land and they are not developing.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_04]: And so I want to challenge those of you who live in rural areas or grew up in rural areas and left to go back and challenge your church to do some development because these outlier cities
- 1:12:13[SPEAKER_04]: are sitting on it.
- 1:12:14[SPEAKER_04]: Don't let these people just come into your rural areas and drop data centers.
- 1:12:22[SPEAKER_04]: You ain't thought about no marketplace or housing or shopping districts because as they start pushing people out of these cities, these rural areas are going to be gold mines and because white people don't have the numbers,
- 1:12:36[SPEAKER_04]: That's why they fight to be able to have jagels in those rural areas because they count the inmates as citizens.
- 1:12:45[SPEAKER_04]: And so we got to figure out how do we do economics a different kind of way and churches are able to do it because they sit on that real estate.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_04]: Now, depending on where you got family in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, you go out there in the country.
- 1:13:01[SPEAKER_04]: Right next to the churches of Cemetery.
- 1:13:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, right next to that is where they got the church picnic and all of them fields it's just sitting there waiting for somebody to develop it and so I wanted to challenge us when we think about economic development don't just think about it for the city.
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_04]: I'll be thinking about it in real construct.
- 1:13:24[SPEAKER_05]: You were, I don't know, maybe this was like the news, but at one point, you were the I'd grow weed or something.
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_05]: So, let me get in a row, yeah, let me in a row, maybe I heard it wrong.
- 1:13:35[SPEAKER_04]: You did.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_04]: I was making a point that people missed, I was going, for Sean, I'd leave podcasts, I think.
- 1:13:46[SPEAKER_04]: And at that time, at that time, Stacey Evans was running for governor, and she had propositioned about the legalization of marijuana.
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_04]: So my point then that I made as a hypothetical is if they've sitting on 365 acres,
- 1:14:15[SPEAKER_04]: At that time, I don't know if they do now, black in Georgia had a license and you think about all of the people in our community who have been arrested on marijuana.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_04]: So what I said is, maybe the church ought to be the place that grows it if it is being grown from medicinal.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_04]: And that doesn't that when I was suggesting that I was raising a larger economic issue and saying, hey, young black men will say, you know, this is what got me out of the system may be in this place now that it has legalized that we can revisit it.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_04]: But you can't grow it in Georgia, but people missed the argument.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_04]: I'd like people will not let you out live your pain.
- 1:15:13[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, and you think I'll bring it back up while you're in the headline.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_05]: But the way you were, well, what I remember about the positioning was, if it's legal, it's, um, I mean, it could be a source of, I don't know.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know.
- 1:15:30[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:15:33[SPEAKER_04]: There was a second thing you wanted to bring up.
- 1:15:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, the second thing that I wanted to bring up is that black churches in the 50s and in the 40s used to have investment clubs, or they had old ladies, they had a Christmas club where you saved up.
- 1:15:51[SPEAKER_04]: I think that part of the black church's responsibility and economic development,
- 1:15:57[SPEAKER_04]: is that we've got a responsibility of educating people about economics and that the only time you hear about economics in a black church is the call for the tabs and so we got to figure out not just how do we give but how do we invest and how do we save and I say often we don't teach economics because
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_04]: And so that it's got to start from the top down on how it is that we do it and how it is that we function So you're gonna start an investment fund.
- 1:16:33[SPEAKER_04]: No, we are we in it together now day.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_04]: Okay
- 1:16:39[SPEAKER_04]: We ended now, you not making me on so long.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_04]: No, no, no, we ended together.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_04]: So we got to figure out how do we put our hands around it to really make it a much stronger economic engine.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_05]: Meaning letting people invest in something that goes out to bring more money for, like, essentially that way?
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_04]: Or just education.
- 1:17:00[SPEAKER_04]: So the education of, here's a novel idea.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_04]: Black people, I don't know whether you heard about it.
- 1:17:05[SPEAKER_04]: There's a new thing that I'll call it a savings account.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, let's start now.
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:17:12[SPEAKER_04]: When you deal with, I think the data is 87% of black people don't have a singular stock.
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_04]: Can't run to the heels about investment.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_04]: when the only time you hear the church is invested in the kingdom.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_04]: You got to figure out, hey, how am I invested in Coca-Cola?
- 1:17:31[SPEAKER_04]: That's right here in Atlanta.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_04]: Did you drink every day?
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:17:36[SPEAKER_04]: And so I think that we got to start slow and build it up because economics is really about trust.
- 1:17:43[SPEAKER_04]: Black people growing up your grandfather who I didn't know my grandfather, who you didn't know.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_04]: They had this thing.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_04]: Black people used to be proud of, called a pension.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, now you retire and they just send you out to do us, so I saw a story last night I don't see an end 83-year-old still working at Walmart because they don't have any plan or any strategy or any investments and if we're living longer, how does that function?
- 1:18:11[SPEAKER_04]: How does it operate and how do we see it through?
- 1:18:14[SPEAKER_05]: That's one of the conversations that need to be a part of the plan when we get this table together, right?
- 1:18:19[SPEAKER_05]: I mean economic empowerment if people understand how many works.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_04]: Also at the table, talk to me.
- 1:18:26[SPEAKER_04]: Is the head, his name is now escaping me, the head of the Black Bank Association.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_05]: It's my look at that for me real quick.
- 1:18:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, head at the black banks associated.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so as a guy, he lives in Tennessee.
- 1:18:39[SPEAKER_04]: He's over all of the black banks.
- 1:18:41[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_04]: That'll left in the country or in the country.
- 1:18:44[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:18:45[SPEAKER_04]: So you think about how many black churches are dropping all the money off it.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's far go through us.
- 1:18:51[SPEAKER_04]: Bank of America.
- 1:18:52[SPEAKER_04]: If we did collective banking and all of them black churches on Monday morning, dropped it off in black banks.
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_04]: You have seen a revolution.
- 1:19:04[SPEAKER_04]: I argue allowed that the
- 1:19:18[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm, they understand the revolution between young money years.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_04]: That's where the threat is.
- 1:19:27[SPEAKER_04]: If, you know, Marcus Garvey was a threat, not because of the speeches, but because of the economic plan.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_04]: What are you talking about?
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to do shipping way up?
- 1:19:39[SPEAKER_04]: You're doing a whole shipping company?
- 1:19:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so you are a threat when you deal with those economics.
- 1:19:46[SPEAKER_04]: We got to bring to the table our black banks and we don't even say it anymore.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know if my children even know how to pronounce it, credit unions.
- 1:19:56[SPEAKER_06]: Mm-hmm.
- 1:19:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, the Navy ain't the only people with a credit union.
- 1:20:00[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know if you want to use car, you've got to go through Navy.
- 1:20:06[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but no, I think we got to figure out at that table how do we get credit unions, how do we fortify the remaining black banks that are amongst us even if you all are previously wedded entrepreneurs too, black bank that gave you that startup capital, due to savings at a black bank.
- 1:20:26[SPEAKER_04]: and see how it is that that really gives some buoyancy for our people to have access to capital for home ownership.
- 1:20:34[SPEAKER_05]: One of my partners, he was, well, we had an account at this black bank, to operate the business, but the process was so antiquated and it was tough.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_05]: So actually took the money to operate the business more effectively, had to go to another bank.
- 1:20:52[SPEAKER_05]: And then he just called, he was like,
- 1:20:57[SPEAKER_05]: And I said, my first thought was, oh, man, it didn't work out, but I'm like, oh, how else do we build something if we don't start?
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, we all have start coming, right?
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:09[SPEAKER_04]: But with the churches laying the way.
- 1:21:11[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_04]: They look up from real quick, how much money black churches deposit a week?
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_05]: And what was the guy's name?
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_05]: They might find it?
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_04]: I also want me to hold you.
- 1:21:24[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry, I love you, I support you.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_04]: I love you, Nicole.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:21:28[SPEAKER_04]: You're a fair man, that was Robert James.
- 1:21:31[SPEAKER_05]: Robert James was the chairman.
- 1:21:32[SPEAKER_05]: He's not the chairman anymore, though.
- 1:21:36[SPEAKER_05]: Probably don't.
- 1:21:37[SPEAKER_05]: Todd, make Donald.
- 1:21:39[SPEAKER_05]: Todd, make Donald, okay.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_05]: All your names.
- 1:21:42[SPEAKER_04]: We love you, isn't yes.
- 1:21:43[SPEAKER_04]: How much did he deposit?
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, okay.
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_05]: He's in charge of EZ?
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 1:21:50[SPEAKER_04]: I mean he's a Google master.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_05]: Google?
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_05]: What does Google do?
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_05]: Yes.
- 1:21:57[SPEAKER_05]: I heard a Google, but... Yeah.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_05]: Check what I found in the center.
- 1:22:01[SPEAKER_05]: Take that.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_05]: Let me see.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_05]: Oh my gosh.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_05]: This is ridiculous.
- 1:22:07[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, don't wear it to the other side.
- 1:22:09[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I got you know how much do black churches deposit a week.
- 1:22:15[SPEAKER_05]: HR how much money do the black churches deposit into banks per week around about.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_05]: I'll just find this answer one time real quick, um, the black shirt.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I mean, might take a little time to figure out what a black shirt.
- 1:22:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'll do a year.
- 1:22:34[SPEAKER_04]: No, probably.
- 1:22:34[SPEAKER_04]: How much do black churches earn a year?
- 1:22:37[SPEAKER_04]: Collect a year.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_05]: How much they collect a year?
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_05]: So, some analysts estimate, some analysts estimate that African-American Christians can should be roughly $10 billion to $20 billion annually in ties and offering across all black churches in the US.
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_04]: So, imagine that in black banks would that would do?
- 1:23:12[SPEAKER_05]: I says black churches have taken in hundreds of billions in aggregate since 1980.
- 1:23:17[SPEAKER_05]: One single church in the earth.
- 1:23:20[SPEAKER_05]: God.
- 1:23:20[SPEAKER_05]: Lee.
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_05]: All right, all right, y'all, all right, I'm last three people we named, okay?
- 1:23:30[SPEAKER_04]: Invitation is coming your way come on July 2nd and third we'll see you there.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, man.
- 1:23:34[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
- 1:23:35[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 1:23:35[SPEAKER_04]: No, great for this was great.
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_04]: This is really really good No, thank you glad to be with you.
- 1:23:40[SPEAKER_04]: Oh my gosh.
- 1:23:41[SPEAKER_04]: You owe me an interview.
- 1:23:42[SPEAKER_04]: You got to come on over.
- 1:23:43[SPEAKER_05]: I just need an invitation.
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_04]: Okay, consider yourself inviting
- 1:23:47[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you.
- 1:23:48[SPEAKER_05]: The, uh, do me a favor.
- 1:23:49[SPEAKER_05]: Let everybody know how to can find you.
- 1:23:51[SPEAKER_05]: How to support you, um, and give us a final word of wisdom.
- 1:23:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:23:55[SPEAKER_04]: I followed me on all social media platforms at Jamal Bryant.
- 1:24:00[SPEAKER_04]: If it is not verified, then it is not me.
- 1:24:02[SPEAKER_04]: Also, please watch my podcast, please.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have as many followers as this guy.
- 1:24:08[SPEAKER_04]: I need y'all to watch.
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_04]: Go to Jamal Brant, let's be clear on YouTube.
- 1:24:13[SPEAKER_04]: And let me say to you that for 30 years, when nobody talks about for 30 years, Jesus was an entrepreneur.
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_04]: Only three years was he a preacher, a minister, and ultimately a savior.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_04]: If you call yourself a Christian, but you are not doing any work in entrepreneurship, you are not following the model of Christ.
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_04]: He said, don't you know, I'm about my father's business, handle your business and give God to glory.
- 1:24:46[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, God, thank you so much.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_05]: And listen, we can't close it out.
- 1:24:49[SPEAKER_05]: No, better than that man.
- 1:24:50[SPEAKER_05]: These are my favorite.
- 1:24:51[SPEAKER_05]: Follow Dr. Brian on all social platforms and also do yourself another favorite.
- 1:24:58[SPEAKER_05]: Go get you some social proof, meaning go build something and build it really, really big.
- 1:25:01[SPEAKER_05]: But come back to your community and teach them how you did it.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_05]: It's the only way our community grows.
- 1:25:05[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
