- 0:26Speaker 4: prompably presented by Attorney Frank Walker, Real Talk, real experience,
- 0:30Speaker 4: real results, Frank Walker, Law dot Com. Let that conversation
- 0:34Speaker 4: begin on Let's Talk.
- 0:36Speaker 5: Hello, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carlee with Let's Talk.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And I have a crew that may not be back
- 0:44Speaker 2: next week.
- 0:45Speaker 5: But Lisa Odie is in the building and Hollis Lewis
- 0:49Speaker 5: is also here with us.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Hello, do you do either one of you don't want
- 0:55Speaker 2: to tell the story? I know, I know, I know
- 0:58Speaker 2: you help well.
- 1:00Speaker 6: The reason why we all might be fired tonight is
- 1:03Speaker 6: because Carl does not know how to operate the simplest
- 1:06Speaker 6: of equipment needed to have a podcast on w c
- 1:11Speaker 6: H S A Ka. Did not have his headphones plugged in.
- 1:15Speaker 6: Had our producer mat an equipment check.
- 1:21Speaker 2: What I can't hear anything.
- 1:25Speaker 6: That's how we're starting tonight.
- 1:27Speaker 2: See, I'm just gonna I'm just gonna coke. I'm ana
- 1:29Speaker 2: call coop after the show is just fire the whole crew.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Here, start fresh, all.
- 1:35Speaker 5: Right, So, man, I want to I want to. I
- 1:42Speaker 5: know we're going to talk about Lebron, but I want
- 1:46Speaker 5: to open up just to just to say something that
- 1:49Speaker 5: how I kind of feel about him.
- 1:53Speaker 2: All right, all right?
- 1:54Speaker 5: And then Lisa, you got some facts, I'm sure, and Hollins,
- 1:57Speaker 5: I know you got an opinion. I think Lebron is
- 2:05Speaker 5: a outstanding player and butk but being that, I think
- 2:18Speaker 5: the problem that he has is that he wants to
- 2:23Speaker 5: feel like he is like the greatest player ever. I think,
- 2:27Speaker 5: for whatever reason that he's he's fighting with trying to
- 2:32Speaker 5: be MJ. He's wanting to be these great players. I
- 2:37Speaker 5: just don't see him being that. I haven't seen him
- 2:41Speaker 5: in my and again I can't be I can't say
- 2:44Speaker 5: that I've watched every game that he's played. I just
- 2:48Speaker 5: don't see him being any of those great players back
- 2:54Speaker 5: in the day. From what perspective, I just from team
- 3:00Speaker 5: from from a team focus. I think when you look
- 3:05Speaker 5: at MJ and you can say that you know, he
- 3:07Speaker 5: scored this many points, but it didn't it never really
- 3:10Speaker 5: looked like he was shooting that much. I'll even go
- 3:13Speaker 5: to lou Alexander, Kareem Abdul Jabbar and and say he
- 3:19Speaker 5: was he was part of a team that was sus successful.
- 3:24Speaker 5: And I think most of those players were team oriented,
- 3:29Speaker 5: even inside of their greatness.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And so you think Lebron's not team oreent. I do
- 3:34Speaker 2: not think he's team ore in it.
- 3:36Speaker 6: I just don't.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I just don't see it. I think he wants.
- 3:42Speaker 5: To win, all right, and and and he'll go to
- 3:46Speaker 5: a team that he thinks will win.
- 3:49Speaker 2: But then once he gets there, he thinks.
- 3:52Speaker 5: He's the guy who has to carry the whole load,
- 3:55Speaker 5: and please give me the ball, and I'll promise you
- 3:58Speaker 5: I can take you all there.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And that's that's not really how it's been. I don't know.
- 4:02Speaker 2: I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. I think I think.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Maybe what you're looking at, more than his capacity to
- 4:09Speaker 5: be a good teammate, is probably just his mentality. I
- 4:14Speaker 5: think that's where you're hung up at. I think that again,
- 4:17Speaker 5: because if you look at team's success, I mean, he's
- 4:19Speaker 5: definitely carried teams. That Cleveland team they won the championship
- 4:22Speaker 5: was not a great roster at all. I'm not sure
- 4:24Speaker 5: they would have even made the playoffs without Lebron.
- 4:26Speaker 2: That's a younger guy, Yes, younger d Wade.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Okay, I can see kind of ring chase him a
- 4:31Speaker 5: little bit when you go to Miami Lakers.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He's not.
- 4:33Speaker 5: He didn't excuse me, walking to like the greatest situations.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Philly is definitely and we'll talk more about that. Philly
- 4:39Speaker 5: is definitely a ring chase to me. That's that is
- 4:42Speaker 5: what it is. But I think it's just like when
- 4:44Speaker 5: you look at him, when you look at the superstar
- 4:47Speaker 5: that is Lebron James, and you can compare him to
- 4:50Speaker 5: his contemporaries, where you compare him to the Michael Jordan's,
- 4:54Speaker 5: when you can compare him to the Kobe Bryant, when
- 4:56Speaker 5: you compare him to the Kreem Abdul Jabbars and those
- 4:59Speaker 5: great players who dominated their specific errors they were they
- 5:03Speaker 5: they appeared to have more of that killer mentality, just
- 5:07Speaker 5: that attitude that they would rather just be on a
- 5:11Speaker 5: sinking ship than join their comrade. You know, there would
- 5:15Speaker 5: never be a situation in which Michael Jordan is gonna
- 5:17Speaker 5: like team up with Charles Barklay, never ever, right, you
- 5:21Speaker 5: know what I mean? So I think maybe it's his
- 5:24Speaker 5: mentality that kind of throws people off where he's more,
- 5:27Speaker 5: he's more open to do things like he just did.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Okay, at least I'm gonna I just.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Ready, I see him.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I see him.
- 5:43Speaker 5: When they made the herschel Walker trade in Minnesota, and
- 5:46Speaker 5: when herschel Walker got there, already before he probably got there,
- 5:53Speaker 5: there were people trying to figure out, like, you know, who,
- 5:55Speaker 5: what kind of personalities is he going to have, Who's
- 5:57Speaker 5: he going to hang out with?
- 5:59Speaker 2: You know, is it going to be social?
- 6:00Speaker 5: All those kind of things, And and to be honest,
- 6:05Speaker 5: I can't even tell you if I had a legitimate
- 6:07Speaker 5: conversation with them the entire season. That could be just me,
- 6:11Speaker 5: that could be other players. But because you lost those
- 6:14Speaker 5: other players who you you did hang out with, there
- 6:18Speaker 5: wasn't there wasn't a good feeling of having him. And
- 6:23Speaker 5: then now you have an expectation for him that he
- 6:26Speaker 5: has to do all the things that the guys that
- 6:30Speaker 5: you let go had done. And no one ever saw
- 6:35Speaker 5: that that was good, and no one ever thought that
- 6:37Speaker 5: that the trade was You can't compare those two. Those
- 6:41Speaker 5: are lebron wins championships. Wherever he goes, each team that
- 6:45Speaker 5: he's played for, he's won a championship and been a
- 6:48Speaker 5: and been an outstanding player on the court at each stop.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So you can't you can't get that's a that's I'm
- 6:56Speaker 2: not gonna. I'm not gonna.
- 6:58Speaker 5: I'm just saying as a trade, as a trade and
- 7:01Speaker 5: what it does internally to the team.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, Okay, Well, I'm going to agree with some
- 7:07Speaker 6: of the points Holli's just made. The one about being
- 7:09Speaker 6: a ring chaser. I don't think he was that at
- 7:12Speaker 6: the beginning of his career when he was capable of
- 7:15Speaker 6: carrying a team on his bike, so to speak, like
- 7:17Speaker 6: the Cleveland Cavaliers. But now it seems like, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 6: as a forty one year old veteran, he's kind of
- 7:23Speaker 6: tarnishing his legacy in my opinion, by you know, being
- 7:28Speaker 6: this and I had to look this up, but I
- 7:30Speaker 6: love the term and you've probably heard it, guys as
- 7:32Speaker 6: super team merchant.
- 7:35Speaker 2: That's a new one.
- 7:37Speaker 6: This is this is slang that athletes use, uh to
- 7:41Speaker 6: you know who. It's a it's a whatever sport, a
- 7:46Speaker 6: player that chases a team and they only joined stocked
- 7:50Speaker 6: rosters to win championships. So this is what people are
- 7:55Speaker 6: kind of labeling him as. And you know, Chase, like
- 7:58Speaker 6: you said earlier, chasing that ring, it's not going to
- 8:02Speaker 6: help his legacy in the end. In my opinion, I
- 8:04Speaker 6: don't remember Michael or Michael Jordan doing those things at
- 8:07Speaker 6: the end of his career. You know, it kind of
- 8:09Speaker 6: makes you question. He's forty one years old. Maybe this
- 8:12Speaker 6: is the point where we say time to write off
- 8:15Speaker 6: into the sunset, rather than leaving this bad taste in
- 8:18Speaker 6: everyone's mouth as Lebron fans watching him do this.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Well that and that, and trying to bring your son
- 8:26Speaker 5: into the into the mix. Well, yeah, I don't think
- 8:29Speaker 5: his son not going to Philly. I don't think his
- 8:31Speaker 5: son no.
- 8:32Speaker 6: But I'm just saying in the past, like you can't.
- 8:38Speaker 5: I mean, he really believed and I'm okay believing in
- 8:41Speaker 5: your son, and but you can't just automatically bring him into.
- 8:49Speaker 2: The NBA.
- 8:52Speaker 5: And and and put him in the game. You want
- 8:55Speaker 5: to put him in the game like he's getting he's
- 8:57Speaker 5: getting play time. Yeah, come on, I don't have a problem.
- 9:00Speaker 5: I mean, it's nepotism.
- 9:01Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 9:02Speaker 5: It happens at every it happens in every industry, right,
- 9:06Speaker 5: It's just strange that it's happening in sports.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I mean, that's weird.
- 9:10Speaker 5: But I would say this, as far as the move
- 9:12Speaker 5: is concerned, I would agree with you, Lisa.
- 9:14Speaker 6: That it's just.
- 9:17Speaker 5: It's just kind of just like it's kind of yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 5: it's kind of just like blaoh, like why are you
- 9:22Speaker 5: doing again? I understand going from Cleveland. Obviously he grew
- 9:26Speaker 5: up in northeast Ohio. So you get drafted by Cleveland,
- 9:29Speaker 5: you probably want to get out of there.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So you go to Miami. That's almost like a college stop.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Do you come back?
- 9:34Speaker 5: Do you win a championship there? That okay, you want
- 9:36Speaker 5: to go back to Cleveland. You win a championship there,
- 9:38Speaker 5: you did it for the hometown. And then you want
- 9:41Speaker 5: to move to LA because you're trying to do other
- 9:43Speaker 5: things as far as media and being a mogul and.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Da da da da da.
- 9:47Speaker 5: But this and again, so all those moves are kind
- 9:51Speaker 5: of justified. We get it, right, we get it. We
- 9:53Speaker 5: may not like it, but we get it.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But this one is just like, man, I mean, why
- 9:58Speaker 2: do not I just go back to Cleveland have your
- 10:00Speaker 2: son's secret and it's.
- 10:01Speaker 6: Just so why do you think that? I mean, because
- 10:03Speaker 6: you know, people were saying that the front runners to
- 10:07Speaker 6: you know, acquire him. What were Cleveland and Miami.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Correct Cleveland, Miami and Golden State, I think yeah, and and.
- 10:13Speaker 6: Those would have been like that, that would have had
- 10:15Speaker 6: an air of romance, you know, those teams where he
- 10:18Speaker 6: won some championships with. But this this this doesn't have
- 10:22Speaker 6: an air of romance at all. It just kind of
- 10:24Speaker 6: smells to me what.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think he wanted to do.
- 10:30Speaker 5: I think he wanted to go to New York because
- 10:33Speaker 5: from again this is early reports, so this could be
- 10:36Speaker 5: you know, a stretch right now, but from what they're saying,
- 10:39Speaker 5: he's not going to live in Philadelphia. They're saying he's
- 10:43Speaker 5: going to live in New York and then commute. So
- 10:46Speaker 5: there's like it's like an hour ride and you can
- 10:48Speaker 5: catch that, you can do a helicopter ride or whatever.
- 10:50Speaker 5: So they're saying he's going to actually like his home
- 10:52Speaker 5: base on the East Coast is going to be in
- 10:55Speaker 5: New York. So I believe if New York did not
- 10:58Speaker 5: win the championship, I believe he would have went to
- 11:00Speaker 5: New York because he's trying to you know, he has
- 11:03Speaker 5: the La New York thing where he's trying to do
- 11:04Speaker 5: the media, the business guy stuff like that. So I
- 11:08Speaker 5: believe that's probably probably why he went to Philly. In
- 11:11Speaker 5: addition to I mean, Philly has a stack roster with
- 11:14Speaker 5: Joe want to b Brown Cursey, with the young guns
- 11:17Speaker 5: that have I mean, they have.
- 11:19Speaker 2: To be one of the front runners to win the
- 11:21Speaker 2: championship next year. Do you think that those young guys.
- 11:30Speaker 5: Relatively speaking, young guys that are already on the team,
- 11:34Speaker 5: and you throw Lebron in there, do you think that's
- 11:38Speaker 5: a match like that?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Is that a mindset? I don't mean the mindsets work together.
- 11:44Speaker 5: I don't know if it's a match on the court,
- 11:46Speaker 5: But what we gotta understand is the same way we
- 11:50Speaker 5: look at like Michael Jordan or Kareem Abdul Jabbar, that's
- 11:53Speaker 5: how they look at Lebron. How you know, people maybe
- 11:56Speaker 5: a little bit younger than us would look at Kobe.
- 11:58Speaker 5: That is how they look at Lebron. So for them,
- 12:00Speaker 5: it's no, no, no, it absolutely is. It absolutely is
- 12:04Speaker 5: For you and I not necessarily, but for them, Lebron
- 12:07Speaker 5: is there.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Jordan.
- 12:08Speaker 5: They didn't watch Jordan growing up. They watched Lebron and
- 12:11Speaker 5: they got the tail end of Kobe. So for them,
- 12:13Speaker 5: it's like this is playing with their hero. You got
- 12:15Speaker 5: to understand, this guy's eighteen, nineteen, twenty twenty one years
- 12:18Speaker 5: old on this roster. They grew up watching Lebron. Lebron
- 12:21Speaker 5: is it for them because they'll tell you Lebron's the
- 12:24Speaker 5: greatest player of all time?
- 12:25Speaker 6: But aren't there? Okay, So let me throw this out
- 12:28Speaker 6: here too. So I know this seems like a dream
- 12:30Speaker 6: team roster, so to speak. But you know, there's some
- 12:32Speaker 6: skepticism I think out there with especially Philly fans. You know,
- 12:36Speaker 6: there's questions about, you know, whether a forty one year
- 12:38Speaker 6: old James is going to be able to stay healthy
- 12:40Speaker 6: for a full season, right, And then you've also got
- 12:43Speaker 6: Embeid and I think he's been heard quite a bit.
- 12:46Speaker 2: He's going to be hurt. Yeah, unfortunately.
- 12:47Speaker 6: So you're looking at an NBA season that begins quite
- 12:51Speaker 6: early and ends quite late in the next year. I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 6: that's a grueling kind of schedule for them to be
- 12:56Speaker 6: able to go deep in the playoffs. Everybody has to
- 12:58Speaker 6: stay healthy, those two us especially correct.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think you have a Jalen Brown, so
- 13:03Speaker 2: I think he's there.
- 13:04Speaker 6: That's true.
- 13:04Speaker 5: He's going to to me be the focal of this,
- 13:07Speaker 5: and I think they can, man they can win enough
- 13:10Speaker 5: games with him sort of guide in the ship, and
- 13:13Speaker 5: they can you know, manage do the low management thing
- 13:16Speaker 5: around him being Lebron. So I think there's enough pieces
- 13:19Speaker 5: there because really all they have to do is kind
- 13:22Speaker 5: of get to the playoffs and get through the regular season.
- 13:24Speaker 5: Just get in the playoffs and then want you in
- 13:25Speaker 5: the playoffs if you're healthy to your point, if you're
- 13:28Speaker 5: healthy healthy going to the playoffs, I mean, that's gonna
- 13:30Speaker 5: be a tough roster and compete with.
- 13:33Speaker 2: But can Lebron fit?
- 13:35Speaker 5: He's gonna Lebron's a chameleon. That's the thing with Lebron.
- 13:39Speaker 5: He can play, he gotta he developed a post game,
- 13:42Speaker 5: he can he can run the point. Lebron can play any.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I'm not I'm not. I'm not questioning his ability to
- 13:50Speaker 2: play any positions. But what will he do?
- 13:54Speaker 5: What what does he create in the in the mindsets
- 13:57Speaker 5: of the other teammates, Because I'm telling you, there is
- 14:03Speaker 5: a there is a I mean there's a feeling when
- 14:07Speaker 5: you have somebody who is.
- 14:11Speaker 2: You know that's come in.
- 14:15Speaker 5: In this type of situation, like you feel a certain
- 14:18Speaker 5: kind of way because you've lost you know this player,
- 14:21Speaker 5: that player.
- 14:22Speaker 2: You had to get rid of him.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Bro.
- 14:24Speaker 5: I'm just telling, I'm just but it's different in basketball.
- 14:27Speaker 5: I would say football is a little different basketball. They're
- 14:30Speaker 5: used to just it's constant moving. In basketball, teams are
- 14:35Speaker 5: constantly changing. I mean, and we can say, well that's
- 14:37Speaker 5: from youth all.
- 14:38Speaker 2: The way up. Okay, it's constant movement.
- 14:41Speaker 5: Okay, But now all of a sudden, everybody's going to say, Okay,
- 14:44Speaker 5: Lebron's gonna come in and.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Make us a champion. It's going to be the safe,
- 14:48Speaker 2: he's going to be the savior. And and and you
- 14:51Speaker 2: and Lisa and me.
- 14:53Speaker 5: We're three or three, we're three of the starters, and
- 14:56Speaker 5: we're thinking like, well, wait a minute, it's just.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Gonna be him. He's just gonna like, he's gonna be
- 15:03Speaker 2: the thing. I don't think.
- 15:05Speaker 5: I don't think a professional athlete can handle that in
- 15:11Speaker 5: their mindset.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's Lebron, this is this.
- 15:14Speaker 6: You don't even think Jayleen will have a problem with.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I think he will.
- 15:18Speaker 6: But that's an ego there.
- 15:20Speaker 5: But but I think we all know if you're if
- 15:23Speaker 5: you're a basketball fan, you know Jayleen, this is this
- 15:26Speaker 5: is gonna be Jaylen Brown's team. This is his squad.
- 15:29Speaker 5: He's going to be responsible for carrying this team. Again,
- 15:33Speaker 5: you're forty one. I'm sure Lebron's probably in the superior shape,
- 15:36Speaker 5: all the things. He does, take care of his body.
- 15:38Speaker 5: But at the end of the day, long term, this
- 15:40Speaker 5: is Jaylen Brown's team. So I don't think far as
- 15:42Speaker 5: Ego and Lebron is is he. Lebron's not a Jordan,
- 15:46Speaker 5: He's not a Kobe. He will defer, you know what
- 15:49Speaker 5: I'm saying. That's a criticism of Lebron. Lebron will pass
- 15:51Speaker 5: the ball. He doesn't always take the last shot. That
- 15:54Speaker 5: is a that is a That's been a criticism Lebron
- 15:57Speaker 5: his whole career.
- 15:58Speaker 6: It has been and and.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And I'll make the case, No, I don't want to
- 16:05Speaker 2: take the last shot. I just soon you take it.
- 16:08Speaker 5: I'm telling you miss it. I'm telling you miss it.
- 16:12Speaker 5: Then you know I'm okay. And Lebron can fit in anywhere.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Oh that he can't fit in anywhere again now again again,
- 16:22Speaker 5: he can.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Fit in with any team.
- 16:24Speaker 5: Lebron can literally play with anybody because he can play
- 16:26Speaker 5: all five positions. And he he doesn't have a he
- 16:30Speaker 5: I mean, obviously he has an ego. He's a professional athlete,
- 16:32Speaker 5: but his ego's not bigger than He's not a Kobe.
- 16:35Speaker 5: He's not a Kobe. He's not a Kobe or Jordan.
- 16:38Speaker 2: He's not.
- 16:38Speaker 6: So do you believe this is the missing piece that
- 16:41Speaker 6: the seventy six ers need to get it to the
- 16:43Speaker 6: to the next level, to put it to the finals?
- 16:45Speaker 2: That part I don't.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Because I mean it seems like good. You know, those
- 16:48Speaker 6: other players, if they were so so good. I mean,
- 16:53Speaker 6: I know they're good. Don't get me wrong, All players
- 16:55Speaker 6: in NBA are good. But you know, for for him
- 16:57Speaker 6: to come in and everybody say they're the juggernaut, now
- 17:00Speaker 6: there are going to be the team that everybody needs
- 17:01Speaker 6: to be. Is he that big of a contributing factor
- 17:05Speaker 6: to a championship?
- 17:06Speaker 5: Is I mean that that's the question? Yeah, And I
- 17:08Speaker 5: think that's I don't but no, no, But I say,
- 17:13Speaker 5: that's a good that's legitimate. That's that's legitimate. That's a legitimate.
- 17:16Speaker 2: So I don't. I can't answer that.
- 17:19Speaker 6: And one more thing and then I'm gonna let Carl
- 17:21Speaker 6: take over because Carl's dying over there. But you know,
- 17:24Speaker 6: going to the Philly you know those fans are notoriously different.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Those are different fans culture.
- 17:31Speaker 6: You know, they'll turn on you quick. And I'm telling
- 17:35Speaker 6: you if they don't, you know, look at the Eagles fans,
- 17:36Speaker 6: and now look at this. You know, if you don't,
- 17:38Speaker 6: if you don't produce a championship like within a year
- 17:40Speaker 6: or two, you know, you're just cooked. Yeah, they're gonna
- 17:43Speaker 6: they're gonna have an immediate, you know, reaction.
- 17:46Speaker 5: And he signed a two year deal. Yeah, so he
- 17:48Speaker 5: got the one year than the player option the second year.
- 17:50Speaker 5: So I think and minimum is a minimum anyway, I think,
- 17:54Speaker 5: I think what will happen if, by some chance, he doesn't,
- 17:59Speaker 5: he doesn't show up the way that they expect him
- 18:01Speaker 5: to show up early on in the season.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I think they'll lose the fan base.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Nah, well, let me, I would partly agree with that.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Consider if they're if they're not, if by All Star break,
- 18:16Speaker 5: if things ain't going right, and I can see that.
- 18:19Speaker 5: But but but I legitimately think I think they're gonna
- 18:22Speaker 5: be barn. Everybody stays healthy or healthy enough, I think
- 18:27Speaker 5: you know, they'll be in the Eastern Finals, the Eastern
- 18:29Speaker 5: Conference Championship at the least.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Okay, my only my only.
- 18:33Speaker 6: Write that down Matt Murphy, I'll.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Tell you, I think they're gonna at least get that fall.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I think the only way that that happens. I think
- 18:39Speaker 5: the only way that that happens is if Lebron is
- 18:42Speaker 5: able to step back.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And not own the team.
- 18:50Speaker 5: And allow everybody to play, because, like you said, there
- 18:53Speaker 5: are some great players on that team, and they don't
- 18:57Speaker 5: need a whole lot of help. They don't need a
- 19:00Speaker 5: they don't need a play, they don't need a game winner,
- 19:05Speaker 5: they don't need that guy. They just need another hand.
- 19:08Speaker 5: That's a good hand. That's all they need.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I think Lebron can feel that. I mean, I don't
- 19:13Speaker 2: know if that's him.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Possibly, I think he's always thinking he's the guy that's
- 19:16Speaker 5: got to take us, He's the guy who has to
- 19:18Speaker 5: take us there.
- 19:19Speaker 2: He's not gonna let you take him. I don't know.
- 19:22Speaker 5: I think at this juncture in your career, I think
- 19:24Speaker 5: you kind of want that ride, right. I think he
- 19:26Speaker 5: wanted that from Luca. I don't know if he wanted
- 19:28Speaker 5: to be like me, let me come in and this
- 19:31Speaker 5: field a gap.
- 19:31Speaker 6: I think he wants to go out on winner. I
- 19:33Speaker 6: think that that's the whole.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Point of that. I think I think that too.
- 19:36Speaker 6: I mean, otherwise, I think he would have gone back
- 19:38Speaker 6: to Miami or Cleveland because those were good fits for him.
- 19:41Speaker 6: He want you know, that's nostalgic. People would have wanted
- 19:43Speaker 6: him there. The fans love him there. He's taking a
- 19:46Speaker 6: chance going to Philly.
- 19:47Speaker 7: Really yeah, I think you'll are missing one one thing
- 19:49Speaker 7: there about NBA teams, The coaching aspect is a big but.
- 19:53Speaker 2: A lot of this is going to depend by Nick Nurse.
- 19:57Speaker 7: How well does he control this team by adding Lebron
- 20:00Speaker 7: in there. I mean, when you think about the most
- 20:02Speaker 7: successful coaches over the last thirty years, Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich,
- 20:08Speaker 7: Steve Kerr, and then after those top three, I mean
- 20:12Speaker 7: you could list anybody, but you know those those three
- 20:15Speaker 7: coaches know how to control their players when they bring
- 20:18Speaker 7: somebody in. You know, they don't rework the wheel or
- 20:21Speaker 7: anything like that.
- 20:22Speaker 2: They do what they do and they make you fit in,
- 20:25Speaker 2: and they make you fit in.
- 20:26Speaker 6: Do you really think Lebron is going to I mean.
- 20:29Speaker 7: That's my issue with these superstars late in their career
- 20:32Speaker 7: is it's just like if the coach starts to defer
- 20:36Speaker 7: and say, well, you know, you're the great Lebron, You're
- 20:38Speaker 7: the great whoever, that's when you start having issues if
- 20:43Speaker 7: the coach gives away some of their control.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Good point. Good point. And I think you give up.
- 20:48Speaker 2: You're going to have to give up a little bit
- 20:49Speaker 2: if you get Lebron.
- 20:51Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, And I don't and I don't think they're
- 20:53Speaker 5: in a position to want or even need to do
- 20:57Speaker 5: that at this point.
- 21:00Speaker 2: See, yeah, it's gonna be interesting.
- 21:02Speaker 5: It's it's it's really gonna be It's really gonna be
- 21:05Speaker 5: interesting to see. But now we're gonna I want to
- 21:11Speaker 5: switch here to probably I'm gonna I'm gonna kind of
- 21:16Speaker 5: give a good introduction to him, probably one of the
- 21:21Speaker 5: best sports television analyst or whatever you want to call him,
- 21:30Speaker 5: Steven Am.
- 21:31Speaker 6: We have a clip. You want to play the clip
- 21:33Speaker 6: to introduce it? Yes, yeah, Matt, if you could play it,
- 21:36Speaker 6: it'd be great.
- 21:39Speaker 2: He's an addict. That's what this comes down to. And
- 21:42Speaker 2: as far as I'm if I was in an NFL team,
- 21:44Speaker 2: I went touch.
- 21:45Speaker 8: I just went to you, and I see this very differently, Stevens.
- 21:48Speaker 7: I know we do.
- 21:49Speaker 8: Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.
- 21:53Speaker 8: Be kind always. This shame does nothing. It doesn't help
- 21:58Speaker 8: being addicted. To drugs does not meet you a bad person.
- 22:01Speaker 8: It's a weakness. It needs to be addressed. The struggle
- 22:04Speaker 8: goes on. There's no end to the struggle. This is life.
- 22:07Speaker 8: We struggle every day and we just try to struggle better.
- 22:10Speaker 8: And he's trying to struggle better.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Now.
- 22:11Speaker 8: If he committed a crime, if you hurt someone, why
- 22:15Speaker 8: do you think he's been taking Xanex and weeds since
- 22:17Speaker 8: he was a teenager, since he was a young kid.
- 22:20Speaker 8: Guy has problems, like he is a super human athlete,
- 22:24Speaker 8: but he is still a human being.
- 22:35Speaker 6: So just wanted to preface that real quick for our audience, guys.
- 22:37Speaker 6: But that that clip is actually from the ESPN archives
- 22:41Speaker 6: of stephen A's first take and that actually was on
- 22:44Speaker 6: twenty eighteen December twenty eighteen, and so stephen A gave
- 22:48Speaker 6: his opinion and then the response was from Max Keller.
- 22:51Speaker 6: So thoughts from you, guys.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I know had I had a guy, a buddy of
- 22:57Speaker 2: mine who.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I would say comfortably was probably the best bump and
- 23:05Speaker 5: run corner in the NFL, who nobody knows.
- 23:10Speaker 8: And he was.
- 23:13Speaker 2: He was an alcoholic. That was his vice, I guess.
- 23:17Speaker 5: And as my career grew, all I could think about
- 23:29Speaker 5: was him because I knew how great he was. I mean,
- 23:33Speaker 5: he was ten times better than me. But I knew
- 23:39Speaker 5: his career was never gonna it was never going to
- 23:41Speaker 5: get to a place to where he would be able
- 23:46Speaker 5: to actually play week in and week out because he
- 23:49Speaker 5: just he just drank too much.
- 23:51Speaker 4: You know.
- 23:52Speaker 2: You could, I mean you could smell it on him.
- 23:54Speaker 5: You know, in the morning every day for practice, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 5: and it's almost like he wouldn't wait to get away
- 24:01Speaker 5: from practice to get there. And I think when you
- 24:05Speaker 5: put yourself in that kind of situation, and when that's
- 24:08Speaker 5: a situation that's causing you a problem to be great,
- 24:14Speaker 5: it's not an easy one to break, you know. I
- 24:19Speaker 5: went on it was you know, the day off on
- 24:22Speaker 5: in the league is Tuesday. So I went over to
- 24:26Speaker 5: his house because so he's playing on the other side
- 24:30Speaker 5: of me, you know, and and and I know how
- 24:33Speaker 5: good he is. He can when he came to the door,
- 24:38Speaker 5: like I mean, I'm banging on the door because I
- 24:40Speaker 5: know he's there, you know. And finally he opens the
- 24:44Speaker 5: door and he turns around and walks back, like he
- 24:48Speaker 5: doesn't say come in. He just walks away and goes back,
- 24:53Speaker 5: lays down on the couch and I'm like, I try,
- 24:56Speaker 5: I try to have a conversation with him, and I
- 24:59Speaker 5: realized that it was was it was a it was
- 25:01Speaker 5: a waste of time because he wasn't there, you know,
- 25:06Speaker 5: it wasn't his he was too far gone, you know.
- 25:09Speaker 5: And and I think, you know, when when players get
- 25:14Speaker 5: into that kind of a situation, it really really damages
- 25:20Speaker 5: their ability their thought process of how great they could be.
- 25:25Speaker 6: That's just a you know, a story that you just
- 25:27Speaker 6: told Carl that that you know, it's probably similar to
- 25:30Speaker 6: to what happened to to Josh Gordon. I don't think
- 25:33Speaker 6: he plays in the league anymore. And I think that, uh,
- 25:36Speaker 6: you know, after this clip. He even had more issues
- 25:39Speaker 6: of being suspended with drug problems. And you know from
- 25:41Speaker 6: what I what I read, But you know, I think
- 25:44Speaker 6: the thing that bothered me a little bit about the video.
- 25:46Speaker 6: And don't get me wrong, I love Stephen A. Smith,
- 25:49Speaker 6: love him most of the time. I'm with him and agree,
- 25:52Speaker 6: but you know, for him, uh, you know, for this
- 25:55Speaker 6: this little segment between he and Max. You know, at
- 25:59Speaker 6: one point we didn't or all of the second the
- 26:01Speaker 6: whole time, the whole interaction between the two men but
- 26:05Speaker 6: you know, he said that it was self inflicted rather
- 26:08Speaker 6: than a true disease, and he caught a lot of
- 26:11Speaker 6: flock at that time for making that statement, and and
- 26:14Speaker 6: to me rightly. So, you know, I don't think addiction
- 26:18Speaker 6: is a choice.
- 26:19Speaker 2: No, I don't. I don't think.
- 26:21Speaker 6: I don't think you know, I think that it's it's
- 26:23Speaker 6: a it's a it's an illness. And you know, most
- 26:27Speaker 6: of the time people that have, you know, battled that addiction,
- 26:30Speaker 6: they understand that complex reality of trying to get better.
- 26:33Speaker 6: And I think kind of Stephen kind of disrespected that
- 26:37Speaker 6: process in a way during that little little interaction. What
- 26:42Speaker 6: do you what do you think, Collins?
- 26:43Speaker 5: I mean, it was just it was a very ignorant comment.
- 26:46Speaker 5: It was downright disgusting. And I had those same thoughts
- 26:50Speaker 5: when I heard it back then as a person who
- 26:52Speaker 5: like works in that community, at least in part, you
- 26:57Speaker 5: have to understand that normally addiction is a symptom of
- 27:00Speaker 5: a deeper issue. So whether that's a childhood trauma, whether
- 27:04Speaker 5: that's even an adult trauma, whether that's you know, mental
- 27:08Speaker 5: illness or what have you, or you know, here in
- 27:12Speaker 5: the case of in West Virginia, a large segment of
- 27:16Speaker 5: our population who is suffered from SUD substitute disorder went
- 27:21Speaker 5: to the doctor because they were injured, and then they
- 27:23Speaker 5: got over prescribed during the opoid crisis. So it could
- 27:27Speaker 5: be a situation in which you don't have anything far
- 27:29Speaker 5: as mental or some sort of emotional behavior health issue,
- 27:32Speaker 5: you just went to the doctor, you got over prescribed,
- 27:34Speaker 5: and now it led you to where you can't get
- 27:37Speaker 5: that drug. Now you're you know, using street drugs in
- 27:39Speaker 5: order to compensate for not being able to get it
- 27:42Speaker 5: from a doctor anymore. And I think specifically when we're
- 27:45Speaker 5: looking at sports and addiction, it's sports and addiction is
- 27:49Speaker 5: like one of those things similar to like sports and
- 27:52Speaker 5: behavioral health and mental health, which we're just starting to
- 27:56Speaker 5: sort of recognize the problems with that. Particularly. You know,
- 28:00Speaker 5: when we talk about athletes, I was looking at something
- 28:03Speaker 5: the other day and then we're talking about what being
- 28:06Speaker 5: a high level athlete like does to your nervous system. Right,
- 28:10Speaker 5: So for example, like when we're two days we're practicing,
- 28:14Speaker 5: and you and we're doing run tests and we're doing
- 28:17Speaker 5: our sprints after practice, you know that sort of feeling
- 28:21Speaker 5: in addition to the anticipation and the playing of games
- 28:25Speaker 5: and practice and the camaraderie that exists within that team capacity.
- 28:30Speaker 5: You don't get that anywhere else. So once you're done
- 28:33Speaker 5: with it, your nervous system is used to reacting and
- 28:38Speaker 5: being at a certain tilt, you know, and I'm sure
- 28:41Speaker 5: coachly you could probably you know, relate. You know, every
- 28:45Speaker 5: August it's almost like, dang, I ain't in shape yet.
- 28:48Speaker 5: You might do that, like after you've done plan you
- 28:50Speaker 5: think like, but hey, I'm done. You ain't played in
- 28:54Speaker 5: two three years, But that August you start to get
- 28:56Speaker 5: charged up because you're used to doing things in a
- 28:59Speaker 5: certain way.
- 29:01Speaker 2: And I'm sure it's for the same for other sports.
- 29:03Speaker 5: So athletes are prone to be to go that way
- 29:08Speaker 5: because you're just not getting that that that adrenaline rush.
- 29:12Speaker 5: You're not getting that excitement. You know, life becomes boring. Particularly,
- 29:15Speaker 5: like I said, if I can you know, you played
- 29:17Speaker 5: in the league or played high level collegiate natural it's
- 29:21Speaker 5: a natural thing. And when you can't get that, it's
- 29:23Speaker 5: almost similar to going to that doctrine being overprescribed. So
- 29:27Speaker 5: I think it's one of those things where you know,
- 29:29Speaker 5: we we and I and I and I think it's
- 29:33Speaker 5: mandated by the league now that every team has to
- 29:35Speaker 5: have like a mental health professional, behavioral health professional, I think,
- 29:39Speaker 5: I think now, and we got to do that. And
- 29:41Speaker 5: the same thing goes for addiction, you know, So if
- 29:44Speaker 5: you do have these athletes who we got to start
- 29:46Speaker 5: to figure out how we can, you know, get to
- 29:48Speaker 5: the root of the problem and not just look at
- 29:50Speaker 5: this purely in a punitive manner, because it's much deeper
- 29:54Speaker 5: than that. So and and you touched on a piece
- 29:58Speaker 5: of it that I think that maybe the average person
- 30:03Speaker 5: doesn't get. And I know that you understand it from
- 30:07Speaker 5: just even playing at Western State. When you're when you
- 30:10Speaker 5: are an athlete and when you are you know, in
- 30:15Speaker 5: the game in a situation somewhere, there are players people
- 30:23Speaker 5: who have to come find a way to get rid
- 30:27Speaker 5: of all that anxiety that they have built up into
- 30:30Speaker 5: the game. And unfortunately it's it's usually going out with
- 30:36Speaker 5: your buddies and going out to the bar and having
- 30:40Speaker 5: a drink, having a smoke, anything like that, and before
- 30:44Speaker 5: you know it, it becomes your routine and before you
- 30:48Speaker 5: know it, you are hooked on it. And it's not
- 30:53Speaker 5: always something that somebody did for quote pleasure. It was
- 30:59Speaker 5: a it was a way out. It was something to
- 31:01Speaker 5: try to just get me over as an escape mechanism
- 31:04Speaker 5: to help me get away from the anxiety of you know,
- 31:10Speaker 5: what football is. I mean, if I mean, you can't
- 31:13Speaker 5: imagine if you haven't done it, you can't imagine being
- 31:19Speaker 5: in camp and hoping to make a team, you know,
- 31:23Speaker 5: and and you've got a great quarterback that's in front
- 31:26Speaker 5: of you, maybe two and some kind of way. You're
- 31:31Speaker 5: trying to make this team, but you've got to beat
- 31:32Speaker 5: one of those guys out and if not, you're going home.
- 31:37Speaker 2: And when you go home, you don't know what you
- 31:41Speaker 2: face what you're facing now.
- 31:43Speaker 5: And that's in addition to so if you take that
- 31:45Speaker 5: and in addition, like if you're a long term, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 5: professional athlete, there's again I think it's changed now, but
- 31:52Speaker 5: there's also where they're where they're getting the scripts to play,
- 31:55Speaker 5: so they're getting the proccess and they were getting the
- 31:58Speaker 5: you know, the pain pill to deal with management.
- 32:00Speaker 2: So there's also that aspect.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Anyway, So when I hear again, and I would pray
- 32:05Speaker 5: that he would he would have an evolved opinion about
- 32:08Speaker 5: that now. But when I heard that again even it
- 32:11Speaker 5: was just like that's the dumbest thing.
- 32:13Speaker 6: Well, he did come back, guys and have like a
- 32:16Speaker 6: kind of a statement that he made that you know,
- 32:18Speaker 6: he insisted his frustrations with the addiction issues comes from
- 32:22Speaker 6: personal family experiences and the toll that he, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 6: was on the individual. You know, relapses take on the
- 32:30Speaker 6: surrounding support system of family when these you know, whether
- 32:34Speaker 6: it's an athlete or not an athlete, when someone has
- 32:36Speaker 6: an addiction issue, we know how they do relapses, and
- 32:39Speaker 6: you know, the family goes into relapse with them. I
- 32:41Speaker 6: mean they have to suffer through the same symptoms and
- 32:44Speaker 6: trying to get help. So he said it was more
- 32:47Speaker 6: of that than a lack of empathy. So he did
- 32:49Speaker 6: kind of dig his way out of that hole that
- 32:51Speaker 6: he dug when he did that interview. And plus this
- 32:53Speaker 6: was in twenty eighteen, but it's still relevant to a
- 32:56Speaker 6: degree today. I Mean, you know, like you just said,
- 32:58Speaker 6: your friend drinking, you know, destroyed his career, and then
- 33:01Speaker 6: the same thing it happened. You know, from what I'm
- 33:04Speaker 6: reading about Josh Gordon, I mean, he was a very
- 33:06Speaker 6: they caught him Flash I think was his nickname, right.
- 33:08Speaker 5: He was an excellent, excellent he had like you know
- 33:11Speaker 5: that Megatron, Random Mantario, all this type of ability for sure,
- 33:15Speaker 5: but you know, unfortunately it happens. And like I said,
- 33:18Speaker 5: I just hope that anybody out there dealing with, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 5: any sort of addiction issues please call nine eight eight
- 33:24Speaker 5: and you know, get help and just try to you know,
- 33:27Speaker 5: and know this that relapses a part of the process.
- 33:31Speaker 6: You know, they don't give up. Don't give up.
- 33:34Speaker 5: And we as the outside of that, we're the first
- 33:39Speaker 5: ones who want to say, oh, look at that, Hollis.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I heard Hollis was back on it like he was before.
- 33:45Speaker 2: You know, when you do that, when you.
- 33:49Speaker 5: Do that, that doesn't really necessarily help the person in general.
- 33:54Speaker 5: I think it because they know, you know, they know
- 33:57Speaker 5: better than anybody where they are. And in order for
- 34:00Speaker 5: them to think about, Okay, I'm gonna have to go
- 34:03Speaker 5: through this whole thing, this whole process all over again
- 34:07Speaker 5: because I got to get back. They understand how challenging
- 34:11Speaker 5: that is, right, and and all we're doing is just judging.
- 34:15Speaker 5: And I just think that that's you know, for them
- 34:18Speaker 5: to recover. Yes, And I tell you, I promise you
- 34:21Speaker 5: when you see it, when you know it, when you're
- 34:26Speaker 5: on a team, and let's just say in the NFL,
- 34:29Speaker 5: when you're on the team and you see it and
- 34:32Speaker 5: you know that guy's he's in that situation, you know,
- 34:39Speaker 5: it's sad because there's there's there's there's nothing really that
- 34:44Speaker 5: anybody's going to do. We know it, but we don't
- 34:47Speaker 5: know we we because I can't go to Hollis and say, hey, man,
- 34:51Speaker 5: come on, we need to do that.
- 34:52Speaker 2: He don't want to hear that. He's a grown man too,
- 34:56Speaker 2: you know.
- 34:56Speaker 6: And the addict has to decide for themselves help and and.
- 35:02Speaker 2: That's a that's a and that's a challenge for them,
- 35:05Speaker 2: you know.
- 35:05Speaker 7: So I mean from a team management perspective too, there's
- 35:10Speaker 7: there's one thing about making a business decision here, and
- 35:14Speaker 7: that business decision maybe, look, you've got an addiction issue,
- 35:18Speaker 7: we got to cut you your liability to the team.
- 35:20Speaker 7: But that doesn't mean that you don't also still want
- 35:23Speaker 7: to be compassionate. You don't want to try to get
- 35:25Speaker 7: that person rehabilitation and whatever they need there. But you know,
- 35:29Speaker 7: even if you do that for someone, I mean, the
- 35:31Speaker 7: team may still have to say, look, you know it's
- 35:32Speaker 7: still not working out.
- 35:33Speaker 6: It's true. I didn't think that that one.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's that that's that's a fact.
- 35:38Speaker 6: So that one enough for that one?
- 35:43Speaker 4: Do we do?
- 35:43Speaker 6: We want to move on to the next.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Yeah, topic, let's go to the next.
- 35:47Speaker 6: Okay, So this this topic. You know, I don't know
- 35:50Speaker 6: why I didn't realize this was going on when it
- 35:52Speaker 6: came out, but this is the uh Notre Dame CFP deal.
- 35:56Speaker 6: Have you guys heard about it?
- 35:58Speaker 2: Jeez?
- 35:59Speaker 5: I had.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I had not heard about it until you guys talked
- 36:02Speaker 2: about it.
- 36:03Speaker 6: Well, this happened like in December, but they really didn't
- 36:07Speaker 6: advertise it. And I guess now we're the college football season,
- 36:10Speaker 6: you know, is upon us, and what a month out
- 36:13Speaker 6: and now it's coming out what happened with Notre Dame?
- 36:15Speaker 6: And I'll just really quick go over and then I
- 36:17Speaker 6: want your opinions on it, guys, because and Hollis is
- 36:20Speaker 6: going to have to explain a legal term here for us.
- 36:23Speaker 6: But so basically we know what happened in twenty twenty five, right,
- 36:27Speaker 6: Notre Dame got snubbed in the CFP College Football Playoff.
- 36:32Speaker 6: They were ten and two and they ended up being
- 36:35Speaker 6: left out of the twelve team field and replaced by Miami.
- 36:39Speaker 6: So they were pretty upset about it. That the CFP committee.
- 36:43Speaker 6: You know, they justified their decision by saying, you know, look, guys,
- 36:46Speaker 6: you had a zero to two start to your season,
- 36:49Speaker 6: your late season schedule, you know there it was weak
- 36:53Speaker 6: and so it hurt their resume. So in the end
- 36:55Speaker 6: they didn't make the playoff. Well then Notre Dame declined
- 36:57Speaker 6: Bowl invitations, so it was just just turned into a
- 37:00Speaker 6: big drama that you know, typical fighting Irish. I didn't
- 37:04Speaker 6: say that out loud, so anyway, so then we get
- 37:06Speaker 6: to this year and I guess what happened was there's
- 37:10Speaker 6: a it's called a top twelve clause and under a
- 37:15Speaker 6: and it's called an m o U. Do you know
- 37:18Speaker 6: what that is, Hollis and MoU.
- 37:20Speaker 2: It's a random of understanding.
- 37:21Speaker 6: Yes, explain that to everybody, because that was.
- 37:23Speaker 5: Basically, when you have two parties, they don't necessarily have
- 37:27Speaker 5: a quote unquote normal like everyday working relationship, but they
- 37:32Speaker 5: you know, agree upon a set of policies, procedures or
- 37:35Speaker 5: to do.
- 37:36Speaker 1: This or that.
- 37:37Speaker 6: So legally it wouldn't hold up in court. It's more
- 37:39Speaker 6: of like a gentleman's agreement.
- 37:42Speaker 2: It's a little bit more more than a document.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Yeah, there could be some legal ramplifications, but I don't
- 37:48Speaker 5: think it rises to the level of like a contract.
- 37:50Speaker 6: Okay, okay, well that's what they have. So that's that's
- 37:52Speaker 6: between Notre Dame and the CFP. And so now uh,
- 37:57Speaker 6: any top twelve final ranking in twenty twenty six locks
- 38:02Speaker 6: Notre Dame into the playoff field? Is no Matt, no
- 38:07Speaker 6: other team just because you know, here's here's my question
- 38:10Speaker 6: for you guys, special treatment for an independent I mean,
- 38:13Speaker 6: I know Notre Dame's always been given gifts, but is
- 38:17Speaker 6: this over the top?
- 38:18Speaker 5: Well top, well, this is this is this is reason
- 38:22Speaker 5: nine hundred thousand fifty five that I hate the NUBLE
- 38:26Speaker 5: then c double a. I just it's just such a
- 38:31Speaker 5: terrible organization. And like, look, I don't know why we
- 38:37Speaker 5: need a playoff committee. I don't know why that was
- 38:40Speaker 5: your favorite part. I don't know why we need these MOUs.
- 38:44Speaker 5: I don't know why we need any of this crap.
- 38:47Speaker 5: If you just take what the BCS had far as
- 38:50Speaker 5: the point system, take Cuman out of it. You just
- 38:53Speaker 5: got a point system and you say, hey, man, you
- 38:56Speaker 5: you get points for playing it. Make sure the point
- 38:58Speaker 5: system is correct. We can program it to make sure
- 39:00Speaker 5: that hey, if you're getting points for playing good teams.
- 39:04Speaker 5: You're getting points for making early season schedules, even if
- 39:07Speaker 5: that team turns out to not be so good, but
- 39:09Speaker 5: they were good last year. Whatever the points, and you
- 39:13Speaker 5: just take the top twelve teams and run the playoff.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Really take the top twenty five teams, top team, get
- 39:19Speaker 5: it by twenty four play just like every other sports
- 39:22Speaker 5: organization from the NFL to a youth league, just take
- 39:26Speaker 5: You can literally just take what the BCS did far
- 39:29Speaker 5: as the points, getting the top twenty five and.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Just run a playoff.
- 39:32Speaker 5: You don't need all these humans, you don't need MOUs
- 39:35Speaker 5: you don't need any of this. And it's just like
- 39:37Speaker 5: I just I'm so frustrated and I end up personally
- 39:43Speaker 5: again I'll shut up after this, but I I personally,
- 39:48Speaker 5: I personally think that college particularly college football, is going
- 39:54Speaker 5: to succeed from this and they're going to run their
- 39:57Speaker 5: own thing. I think we're gonna have the SEC that
- 39:59Speaker 5: does it first say we're not following any of your
- 40:01Speaker 5: rules anymore. You're a defunct, just useless organization that just
- 40:06Speaker 5: does dumb stuff like this. Because I mean, again, if
- 40:10Speaker 5: they're in the top twelve, then they're in the top twelve.
- 40:12Speaker 5: But what is going to end up doing is making
- 40:14Speaker 5: sure that they're in.
- 40:14Speaker 6: The top exactly. If they're a top twelve time.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Then we don't have to do this. You don't need
- 40:19Speaker 2: a m o U the top twelve. They're good enough
- 40:21Speaker 2: to make it. But now you're going to look for
- 40:23Speaker 2: every justifiable reason to pit them at them there. You know,
- 40:26Speaker 2: It's just I don't know.
- 40:28Speaker 7: You know, all these times that we've been talking bad
- 40:30Speaker 7: about the WVS, S A C and all this transfer
- 40:33Speaker 7: stuff and whatever, and here we actually have a point
- 40:36Speaker 7: system in this state for the playoffs.
- 40:38Speaker 2: And it would work pretty and it's pretty simple.
- 40:41Speaker 7: We had it right here in West Virginia all along.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Look at that, and it's not that hard. I think
- 40:46Speaker 2: they want it. I want it. I think they want
- 40:48Speaker 2: it complex so.
- 40:49Speaker 5: That they can so we were doing this, yeah, so
- 40:53Speaker 5: that something like this they can have some kind of
- 40:57Speaker 5: handle on how to fix it.
- 40:59Speaker 2: It's it's just I.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Don't know, man, What about these other conference commissioners. Do
- 41:03Speaker 6: they not stand up and say, hey, why can't we
- 41:05Speaker 6: get that kind of an agreement? Why do they get it?
- 41:07Speaker 6: Just because they choose to be independent. They could join
- 41:10Speaker 6: any conference in America and they choose not to because
- 41:13Speaker 6: of stuff like this. They have their own network, they
- 41:15Speaker 6: have their own you know that at one point they
- 41:18Speaker 6: were allowed to take a bowl, you know, bid from
- 41:22Speaker 6: or a place from one of the conferences. Who were
- 41:24Speaker 6: they tied to, Matt They were tied to a conference ACC.
- 41:28Speaker 2: No, was it ACC or Big Ten? I know, the
- 41:32Speaker 2: different for both. Yeah, it was different for different sports.
- 41:34Speaker 2: I think.
- 41:34Speaker 6: Okay, okay, but you're right, You're right it was. But
- 41:37Speaker 6: I mean, when are we going to stop, you know,
- 41:40Speaker 6: allowing them the favors when no one else gets them?
- 41:45Speaker 2: How did they?
- 41:46Speaker 5: Okay, so my question is how did this get started?
- 41:50Speaker 5: How did they all of a sudden become this this
- 41:56Speaker 5: this organization to be able to like we can kind
- 41:58Speaker 5: of do what we can whatever it is that we
- 42:00Speaker 5: want to do. We can we can change things if
- 42:03Speaker 5: we want to. Where did that come from? How did
- 42:07Speaker 5: they get there?
- 42:08Speaker 1: What?
- 42:08Speaker 2: What I think you got to understand?
- 42:11Speaker 5: Like, so Notre Dame was like the first one of
- 42:13Speaker 5: the first like major universities really maybe we could say
- 42:17Speaker 5: almost sporting franchise or whatever to have like national TV contracts.
- 42:23Speaker 5: So every year excuse me, yeah, every year, every game
- 42:26Speaker 5: the country saw Notre Dame when like if you were fan,
- 42:31Speaker 5: so like if you're in your region, if you're in
- 42:33Speaker 5: the South, you've seeing your team, if you're in the West,
- 42:35Speaker 5: you seen the team.
- 42:36Speaker 2: But the nation is seen. So they have a wide
- 42:39Speaker 2: reaching fan base.
- 42:40Speaker 5: They have I'm sure you know booster and I'm sure
- 42:43Speaker 5: they you know, got a big booster and all other scene.
- 42:46Speaker 5: An alumni association that's really very powerful. So I think
- 42:50Speaker 5: that's how they got here. The fact of the matter
- 42:53Speaker 5: is though, it's just like it is time to move forward.
- 42:55Speaker 5: Every every other team is move forward. It's time for
- 42:58Speaker 5: them to join the conference.
- 42:59Speaker 6: Exactly join it. And you can thank Rudy for this.
- 43:01Speaker 6: That's what it is.
- 43:02Speaker 7: What do you do?
- 43:05Speaker 5: You have a justification in your mind of like why
- 43:08Speaker 5: they don't want to join a conference.
- 43:11Speaker 2: The TV money they would have to split it.
- 43:14Speaker 5: So now, yeah, if you look at the TV deal,
- 43:17Speaker 5: you look at merchandises, like, they don't have to split
- 43:19Speaker 5: anything with any conference. They don't have to get up anything.
- 43:22Speaker 5: I mean, they they're they're massive. They're almost like a
- 43:25Speaker 5: conference un into themselves, you know what I mean.
- 43:28Speaker 2: So they don't have to put no money.
- 43:30Speaker 6: That's why it was such a big deal when Marshall
- 43:32Speaker 6: went out to South Bend and beat them that year,
- 43:34Speaker 6: a couple of years ago. You know that upset that was,
- 43:36Speaker 6: that was an unbelievable.
- 43:39Speaker 2: There's no way they would have thought that was going
- 43:41Speaker 2: to happen.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Oh no, no, I mean, I'm sure the alumni, you
- 43:45Speaker 6: know that they had things to say about that loss.
- 43:48Speaker 6: I'm sure.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:49Speaker 5: I just think you know, when I when I when
- 43:53Speaker 5: I when I think about power in names of teams,
- 44:00Speaker 5: I guess when you think of Notre Dame, I can
- 44:03Speaker 5: remember them from years and years and years and years
- 44:06Speaker 5: ago growing up. But never did I ever really think
- 44:11Speaker 5: that there'd be a time that I would like it
- 44:14Speaker 5: not be a favorite team of mine.
- 44:16Speaker 4: You know.
- 44:17Speaker 5: But I've just I've just lost it because of just
- 44:19Speaker 5: so many different things that have taken place. I just
- 44:24Speaker 5: it's like I just don't have any any any feel
- 44:28Speaker 5: for support of them. I mean, and look at this schedule,
- 44:31Speaker 5: So you tell me, if this is the top twelve
- 44:33Speaker 5: schedule at least going into the season, maybe maybe it's
- 44:36Speaker 5: turned around. Maybe these teams are good. They start off
- 44:38Speaker 5: with Wisconsin. I believe Wisconsin had a losing record last year.
- 44:42Speaker 5: Then they go to Rice.
- 44:43Speaker 6: Oh, come on, great, that's conference yesterday.
- 44:46Speaker 2: What I don't even know? Are they two?
- 44:50Speaker 5: Then it's in Michigan State. They haven't been good in
- 44:52Speaker 5: a while, Purdue has not been good in the while.
- 44:55Speaker 5: North Carolina is not a good ball club. SMU they're okay,
- 45:00Speaker 5: Eracuse not a good ball club for a while. Navy
- 45:03Speaker 5: all respect to Navy, but they're not you know, parental.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Now you play Miami, good team, Stanford, Stanford not a
- 45:09Speaker 5: good team. Boston College not a good team. Usc it
- 45:12Speaker 5: ain't really been good that well. This is a wretched schedule.
- 45:15Speaker 5: Even if they if all these teams maintain kind of
- 45:19Speaker 5: what they've been doing the last couple of years, and
- 45:21Speaker 5: Notre Dame wins all these games, that's not a top
- 45:24Speaker 5: twelve team.
- 45:25Speaker 6: Sorry, that's that's not a top twenty five game.
- 45:29Speaker 5: So yeah, I was gonna say, it's so awful. How
- 45:32Speaker 5: are you gonna rank them? How are you going to
- 45:34Speaker 5: rank them? If those teams go, you know, win two
- 45:37Speaker 5: or three games in the season, you better win every
- 45:40Speaker 5: game by forty and fifty points. That's that's the only way.
- 45:43Speaker 5: Because this is not a great schedule, which is which
- 45:46Speaker 5: is another bad thing, because you're going to have to
- 45:48Speaker 5: run the score up. Yeah, every game that you play,
- 45:52Speaker 5: you're set that have to run the score up.
- 45:56Speaker 6: Because you know, guys, I can almost guarantee you they
- 46:00Speaker 6: will be in that top twelve. They will be there
- 46:03Speaker 6: unless they just blow up and lose to a lot
- 46:08Speaker 6: of those teams this year. If they can, if they
- 46:10Speaker 6: can have a winning season, they're going to be there.
- 46:13Speaker 2: They they shouldn't even be questioning about a winning season.
- 46:17Speaker 7: How many big teams do you think they need on
- 46:20Speaker 7: a on a schedule, because I didn't hear any like
- 46:23Speaker 7: Ohio State, the only one in so Oklahoma one of
- 46:27Speaker 7: that the only one.
- 46:29Speaker 5: Far as I mean Miami USC traditionally USC again hasn't
- 46:32Speaker 5: been good. Miami's been good these last couple of years.
- 46:35Speaker 5: SMU is a pretty good team.
- 46:36Speaker 2: That's it.
- 46:37Speaker 5: Yeah, on this current schedule again, unless something shakes up,
- 46:41Speaker 5: when one of these teams have a run or they
- 46:43Speaker 5: turn the programming around, this is a wretched schedule.
- 46:46Speaker 2: This is not a good schedule. Well, that's what it
- 46:48Speaker 2: gets back to.
- 46:48Speaker 7: Why you need something that judges difficulty is scheduled because exactly,
- 46:53Speaker 7: I mean, for one thing, there's just so many teams
- 46:56Speaker 7: in college football and they're not all equal. I mean
- 47:00Speaker 7: that's just I mean we know that as as Marshall
- 47:02Speaker 7: WVU fans. I mean that only goes so far.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Well, and the fact that you're you're making your own schedule,
- 47:10Speaker 5: you're not in a conference, so you're not locked to teams.
- 47:14Speaker 6: I mean, come on, like they just want special treatment
- 47:17Speaker 6: and that bothers me a lot, and they get it.
- 47:19Speaker 6: That's the that's the second problem.
- 47:21Speaker 2: I just think that not only college football was the
- 47:23Speaker 2: greatest thing ever and it's just like they just ruined
- 47:26Speaker 2: the game.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Why would you Why would you want to be out
- 47:29Speaker 5: of a comp Like everybody's in a conference. Most everybody's
- 47:31Speaker 5: in a conference, most everybody. Why would you and your
- 47:35Speaker 5: Notre dame? Why are you not in a conference?
- 47:39Speaker 6: That's that's it.
- 47:42Speaker 7: Well, nobody knows how much money they have as a universe.
- 47:44Speaker 2: They don't have to report. They don't have to report it,
- 47:47Speaker 2: that's right.
- 47:47Speaker 7: I mean we're talking about a school that's probably like
- 47:50Speaker 7: in the billion dollar endowment range, which is I mean,
- 47:55Speaker 7: they probably have more money just sitting in the bank
- 47:57Speaker 7: than what some flagship universe of these. Their entire budget
- 48:01Speaker 7: is for a year, so they including.
- 48:03Speaker 5: Sports so they can control all that. So again, they
- 48:07Speaker 5: can give us a trillion reasons, but it all comes
- 48:09Speaker 5: down to the dollar. So that's why you don't want
- 48:11Speaker 5: to join the CAR. I mean, if I was in,
- 48:12Speaker 5: I probably wouldn't want to join the conference neither. But
- 48:15Speaker 5: I mean, at the same time, as just a college
- 48:17Speaker 5: football fan, I just hate this. God, I just just yuck.
- 48:21Speaker 2: I wouldn't.
- 48:22Speaker 5: I wouldn't go to Notre Dame like, well, let me
- 48:30Speaker 5: just say they're going to hit you with a bag
- 48:34Speaker 5: brand Well let me say it this way, then, like
- 48:39Speaker 5: I would, I would want to play if I'm at
- 48:44Speaker 5: Notre Dame, I would want to go and play all
- 48:48Speaker 5: these guys who are at these major universities.
- 48:52Speaker 2: I want to go play against them. I want to
- 48:54Speaker 2: see who they are. I don't want to necessarily be
- 48:57Speaker 2: sure like that we can win every game on our roster.
- 49:02Speaker 2: You know, I just don't want. I don't.
- 49:03Speaker 5: I don't want every team to be a lower level team.
- 49:07Speaker 5: I want to go after like I want to play
- 49:09Speaker 5: a top team.
- 49:11Speaker 2: I don't. I'm not going to go to I'm not
- 49:13Speaker 2: going to go to Notre Dame and know where play
- 49:16Speaker 2: and play Rice.
- 49:17Speaker 7: Well, here's the thing on that Rice game. I guarantee
- 49:21Speaker 7: you that Rice game is probably the same thing as
- 49:23Speaker 7: Marshall going up a couple of years ago. Here's the thing, though,
- 49:26Speaker 7: Notre Dame doesn't need to be in a conference. Teams
- 49:30Speaker 7: like West Virginia University, for example, we need a conference. Yes,
- 49:35Speaker 7: we need that in order to get money. We need that,
- 49:37Speaker 7: in order to get ranking. You've got to have those
- 49:40Speaker 7: other teams in the conference. You need that so that
- 49:43Speaker 7: you can build up your notoriety and you hope that
- 49:46Speaker 7: the conference is good so that that helps you out.
- 49:50Speaker 7: Notre Dame doesn't need all that.
- 49:52Speaker 6: No, it is what it is. I sound like mighty iris.
- 50:02Speaker 6: We're going to audience, isn't.
- 50:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm really not. I'm really not a Notre Dame hater.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Like I said, I love them back in the day,
- 50:10Speaker 5: but like I just don't. I just don't understand. I
- 50:14Speaker 5: just don't understand the direction in which they are trying
- 50:18Speaker 5: to go and the position in which that they're in,
- 50:22Speaker 5: and I don't understand.
- 50:23Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know if you guys, if if
- 50:25Speaker 6: you heard about it when it went down, please refresh
- 50:28Speaker 6: my memory. But I do not remember hearing the chatter
- 50:31Speaker 6: about this deal back in December at all.
- 50:34Speaker 2: I don't remember here.
- 50:34Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 50:35Speaker 6: Like it's almost like they kept it under wraps as
- 50:38Speaker 6: long as they could, and now it's got Yeah, somebody
- 50:41Speaker 6: leaked the information and now it's got to be it's
- 50:43Speaker 6: got to be told.
- 50:44Speaker 5: My fear is just that, you know, it's just like
- 50:46Speaker 5: I said, I think it has the potential just to
- 50:48Speaker 5: corrupt the process and then they'll find every excuse to
- 50:51Speaker 5: put them in the top twelve, as opposed to just
- 50:54Speaker 5: judging the legitimacy of what happened on the field with
- 50:57Speaker 5: the schedules.
- 50:58Speaker 2: And what happens, if what happens if other teams do
- 51:02Speaker 2: I don't think o the team's got cache to do it.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I think it's like Lisa said, this is a Notre Dame.
- 51:07Speaker 5: Yeah, but you really never know though. I mean, there
- 51:12Speaker 5: might be somebody out there that's got got a dollar
- 51:14Speaker 5: and I'm not going to say they got Notre Dame money,
- 51:16Speaker 5: but they may.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Have still enough to at least try just throw away
- 51:22Speaker 2: in double A and see double A. Just throw it away,
- 51:25Speaker 2: just get rid of it, just get.
- 51:29Speaker 6: Oh it's just going to start a revolution, and just
- 51:31Speaker 6: get rid of the whole thing.
- 51:32Speaker 2: We just need to we need to start fresh, and
- 51:35Speaker 2: that I think I think that would be perfect.
- 51:39Speaker 5: I think if you could get the right people in
- 51:41Speaker 5: the room and say, hey, look, let's just get college
- 51:44Speaker 5: football on track, college sports, college sports as a whole.
- 51:49Speaker 5: Let's make it region make it, make it, make it
- 51:52Speaker 5: regional like it should be. Everybody you want to play
- 51:55Speaker 5: teams that are close to you like you should be playing.
- 51:58Speaker 5: We're going to have a playoff. We're not gonna do
- 52:00Speaker 5: this silly stuff and it just make it simple, just
- 52:04Speaker 5: make it, make it great again.
- 52:06Speaker 7: Here's when you know things started to go wrong. How
- 52:09Speaker 7: many teams are in the Big twelve conference?
- 52:11Speaker 2: A gazillion, it's not twelve. I make teams are in
- 52:15Speaker 2: the Big ten. It's not ten. Yeah, you're right, when
- 52:18Speaker 2: things started going.
- 52:20Speaker 6: We can't count. That's a problem.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Yeah, well all right, then we'll we'll end. We'll end
- 52:27Speaker 2: on that fight right there.
- 52:28Speaker 5: And I don't know, I don't I don't know if
- 52:30Speaker 5: we solved anything there or created more.
- 52:34Speaker 2: But ladies and gentlemen, we'll be back again next week.
- 52:36Speaker 2: We appreciate you being here.
- 52:37Speaker 8: Thank you.
