- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint John Vianney, August 8 in year the of our Lord, 2026.
- 0:22Of today's feast, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following. John Baptiste Marie Vianney was born at Dardee near Lyon on 05/08/1786. After many difficulties he received holy priesthood in August 1815.
- 0:45He was parish priest of ours for nearly forty two years. He became a model for all his brethren in the sacredotal ministry by his pastoral zeal and by the unflagging ardor of his prayer and penance. Sitting up to sixteen hours a day in the confessional, he healed souls and sometimes bodies as well. His simple catechism preaching touched the hearts of grown ups as well as those of children. Meanwhile he chastised his body as an act of reparation and impetration for sinners.
- 1:27He died on 08/04/1859. He was beatified in 1905 by Pope Pius X who had been a parish priest and canonized by Pius the eleventh in 1925. Commemorated today are Saint Cyriacus and his companions. Saint Cyriacus, a deacon of the Roman Church under Popes Marcellinus and Marcellus, was put to death in 03/2003 during Diocletian's persecution. He had 22 Christian companions among whom were Largus and Smiragdus.
- 2:15Saint Cyriacus is one of the 14 auxiliary saints. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit. Right reason is on the good man's lips.
- 2:39Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. Allay thy impatience with the wicked. Envy not the lot of evildoers. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages.
- 3:06Amen. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. The Collect.
- 3:23Let us pray. Almighty and merciful God who by pastoral zeal, the yoke of prayer, and the ardor of penance hast made glorious Saint John Mary. Grant we beseech thee that by his example and intercession we may be enabled to gain for Christ the souls of our brethren and with them attain to everlasting glory. A commemoration of Saint Cyriacus and companions. O God, who grant us to celebrate the birthdays of your holy martyrs Syriacus, Largus, and Smiragdus, grant us also to rejoice in their companionship, in eternal happiness through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 4:29Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach. Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold and puts no trust in his store of riches. Show us such a man and we will be loud in his praise. Here is a life to wonder at.
- 4:54A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor. He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy, did no wrong when wrong lay in his power. His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping and wherever faithful men are met his alms deeds will be remembered. The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree.
- 5:30In the house of the Lord he shall grow to greatness, like the cedars of Lebanon to proclaim thy mercy in the morning and thy truth in the night. Alleluia. Alleluia. Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he shall win the crown of life.
- 5:57Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, Your loins must be girt and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men awaiting their master's return from a wedding feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks at the door. Blessed are those servants whom their master will find watching when he comes. I promise you, he will gird himself and make them sit down to meet and minister to them.
- 6:44Whether he comes in the second quarter of the night or in the third, blessed are those servants if he finds them alert. Be sure of this. If the master of the house had known at what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open. You too then must stand ready for at what hour you think not, the Son of Man will come. The Offertory.
- 7:23My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. The secret: We offer Thee, O Lord, sacrifices of praise in commemoration of thy saints by whom we trust to be delivered from both present and future evils. A commemoration of St. Siriacus and companions. May our service be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, and may it bring us salvation through the prayers of those on whose festival it is being offered through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages.
- 8:18Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe, The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory.
- 9:17Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Blessed is the servant who is found on the watch when the Lord comes.
- 9:38Amen, I say to you, he shall place him over all his goods. The post communion. Let us pray. We, Thy suppliants, who are refreshed with heavenly food and drink, beseech Thee, O God, that we may be fortified by the prayers of Him in whose commemoration we have partaken of these gifts. A commemoration of Saint Syriacus and companions.
- 10:12With our strength renewed from having shared in your sacred gift, we beseech you, O Lord our God, that by the intercession of blessed Syriacus, Largus, and Semorogdus, your martyrs, we may feel the benefit of the worship we are offering through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Saint John Vianney, pray for us.
- 11:04Saint Cyriacus, pray for us. Saint Lurgica, pray for us. Saint Smiragdas, pray for us.
