Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So the UIA is in deceipting missiles and drones hitting
- 0:03Speaker 1: from Iran that are edited again. Why, Well, it's Trump's
- 0:07Speaker 1: Project Freedom, which aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz
- 0:11Speaker 1: to have some US Navy destroyers and US flag merchant
- 0:16Speaker 1: ships sailing through the strait, which is starting to happen.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Tony Waterman, US correspondent, Future Story on News with US
- 0:22Speaker 1: this morning, Tony, what's the lightest to you?
- 0:25Speaker 2: Well? President Trump just put a social media post out
- 0:28Speaker 2: saying that the US has destroyed seven Iranian fast boats
- 0:32Speaker 2: that have tried to interfere with this effort to guide
- 0:35Speaker 2: ships through the Strait of Muz. This is something that
- 0:38Speaker 2: Iran has denied, and in this social media post, the
- 0:42Speaker 2: President has also said that Iran has managed to damage
- 0:46Speaker 2: a South Korean cargo ship, suggesting that Soul come to
- 0:51Speaker 2: join this mission to reopen this vital waterway. But what
- 0:54Speaker 2: we have seen today is really this back and forth
- 0:57Speaker 2: of attacks not just at sea, but also on land.
- 1:01Speaker 2: The UAE the United Arab Emirates saying that they have
- 1:05Speaker 2: been responding to multiple drone and missile attacks, some of
- 1:09Speaker 2: those actually connecting wich structures on the ground there's been
- 1:13Speaker 2: a fire reported at a petroleum site in the country,
- 1:17Speaker 2: also damage to some structures. So this is really threatening
- 1:22Speaker 2: what is a pretty shaky cease fire at this point,
- 1:25Speaker 2: but also really risks spiraling this situation out of control
- 1:30Speaker 2: and entering a new front in this war.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And we're seeing the price of oil respond to that.
- 1:34Speaker 1: What are the chances this thing blows out and we're
- 1:37Speaker 1: back to square one again? They're fighting well.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I guess when you speak to certain experts, they'll say,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you know, despite the optics the way that everything looks
- 1:47Speaker 2: right now, we are in fact progressing towards a peace deal.
- 1:51Speaker 2: There are these conversations that are taking place in exchange
- 1:55Speaker 2: of proposals throughout the weekend, so there is discussion, there
- 1:59Speaker 2: is dialogue that is still taking place. But certainly this
- 2:03Speaker 2: announcement by the President on Sunday to start guiding these
- 2:07Speaker 2: ships through the Strait of Hormuz has opened up another
- 2:12Speaker 2: area in this conflict because the strait is really Iran's
- 2:16Speaker 2: main leverage point right now, so the US appears to
- 2:21Speaker 2: be trying to chip away at that by pushing these
- 2:23Speaker 2: boats through. But experts say that even if they're successful
- 2:28Speaker 2: in getting ships through, this waterway. This is not a
- 2:31Speaker 2: permanent solution to this problem because those ships are not
- 2:34Speaker 2: going to return if that area is not yet secure,
- 2:37Speaker 2: if there is still fighting taking place.
