- 0:39SPEAKER_07: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast, powered by the Nation, part of the Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:44SPEAKER_07: I'm your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:47SPEAKER_07: Tristan, two wins in a row.
- 0:49SPEAKER_07: That's a win streak, baby.
- 0:51SPEAKER_05: Steven, I'm pretty sure all Texas Tech University does is win in literally every sport.
- 0:57SPEAKER_05: I think that's all we do.
- 0:59SPEAKER_07: That's all we do, 5-0.
- 1:01SPEAKER_07: Uh this past what week?
- 1:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:04SPEAKER_07: Texas Tech school of winners.
- 1:06SPEAKER_05: We would all get his dubs.
- 1:07SPEAKER_05: I've always said this Texas Tech never loses, never has, never will.
- 1:11SPEAKER_05: So it's just it's a great time to be alive.
- 1:14SPEAKER_07: I don't remember a time when Texas Tech lost the game in any sport.
- 1:17SPEAKER_05: I don't remember ever being down bad.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: Not ever.
- 1:20SPEAKER_05: Not me.
- 1:21SPEAKER_05: No one.
- 1:22SPEAKER_07: Totally not like two weeks ago.
- 1:23SPEAKER_07: Not me.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: No, no, dude.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: I have no clue what you're talking about.
- 1:26SPEAKER_05: I hit my head really hard that Saturday, so I have no idea.
- 1:30SPEAKER_05: All I know is are on top.
- 1:33SPEAKER_07: We're out here.
- 1:34SPEAKER_07: You know, we have to do something when Texas Tech wins, and when we have this past week.
- 1:39SPEAKER_05: That's that's all we do.
- 1:40SPEAKER_05: So I I must I must be quite familiar with with this tradition.
- 1:44SPEAKER_07: I think so.
- 1:44SPEAKER_07: Uh I think the people by now, if you've been listening, we must indeed play the song.
- 1:50SPEAKER_05: Please play that choppy recording from YouTube.
- 1:54SPEAKER_05: Please play that song, baby.
- 1:57SPEAKER_06: We're playing the song.
- 1:59unknown: Red Raider coming at you.
- 2:01SPEAKER_09: Riding through the night with a few real Texas win.
- 2:07SPEAKER_09: Red Raider coming at you.
- 2:09SPEAKER_09: What a beautiful time.
- 2:11SPEAKER_09: The Texas Tech Red Raiders riding right again.
- 2:18SPEAKER_07: Texas Tech wins a farn burner of a game against the Kansas Jayhawks.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: A real rock fight, as they say.
- 2:28SPEAKER_07: If this were a soccer game, this would be insane.
- 2:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it would.
- 2:34SPEAKER_07: 16 to 13.
- 2:35SPEAKER_07: Your Texas Tech Red Raiders defeat the ranked Kansas Jayhawks on the road.
- 2:40SPEAKER_07: Um Steven.
- 2:43SPEAKER_07: Where do you want to start?
- 2:44SPEAKER_07: Where do you want to start?
- 2:44SPEAKER_05: This is this is fireworks in the Big Ten, baby.
- 2:47SPEAKER_05: So I don't know what you're talking about with how boring of a game this was.
- 2:53SPEAKER_05: No one was saying that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_05: Everyone was jazzed the whole game.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: No one was especially the second half.
- 2:59SPEAKER_07: All Texas Tech fans were thrilled with the entire second half of this football game.
- 3:04SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, big big time, dude.
- 3:06SPEAKER_05: That's uh that's for sure.
- 3:07SPEAKER_05: But but really, man, um, I think if you're gonna start anywhere, a dude, you just knocked off number 16 in the country on the road.
- 3:17SPEAKER_05: I'm sure it's been quite some freaking time since we've done something like that, period.
- 3:22SPEAKER_05: And I do not want to hear it's just Kansas, guys.
- 3:25SPEAKER_05: This is number 16, Kansas.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: This isn't like number 25.
- 3:29SPEAKER_05: This is yeah, this is 16.
- 3:31SPEAKER_05: So but this is a a Kansas team that's lit the world on fire, uh reputation-wise, this year.
- 3:37SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, I feel damn good about uh getting it done.
- 3:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was brutal to watch ugly, you know, butt clenching, but at the end of the day, man, a dub over a ranked team is a dub over the ranked team, especially on the road.
- 3:49SPEAKER_07: You do not complain about ranked wins, you don't do it.
- 3:53SPEAKER_07: Uh, there's obviously stuff that was hard to watch at times for both sides.
- 3:58SPEAKER_07: Yes, we understand Kansas was on their third string quarterback.
- 4:02SPEAKER_07: With the way Texas Tech has the luck we've had over these last several years.
- 4:08SPEAKER_07: I don't feel bad.
- 4:10SPEAKER_07: We've earned karma.
- 4:11SPEAKER_07: We've earned karma for this, for them playing injured quarterback.
- 4:14SPEAKER_07: So obviously, hate that you know, Justin Bean got hurt.
- 4:18SPEAKER_07: Um, or Jason Bean, what's his name?
- 4:20SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 4:21SPEAKER_07: Bean.
- 4:21SPEAKER_07: Um stinks that he got hurt, stinks they're playing a true freshman.
- 4:26SPEAKER_07: Yes, that's set up for success for Texas Tech, but I do not feel bad because we have played with injured quarterbacks literally the last six straight years.
- 4:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, the whole time I was just kind of like, wow, it's not us, you know, whatever happens.
- 4:40SPEAKER_05: And obviously, dude, I wasn't cheering it on.
- 4:42SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's like we were we were doing just fine against Bean.
- 4:45SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're only two quarters into the game.
- 4:47SPEAKER_05: Things obviously could have shifted, you know, the you had to play the whole 60 minutes, but we we seem to have it under control to begin with.
- 4:54SPEAKER_05: Um, and since we won, I get to say that, you know, I get to say that no matter what, we were walking out of the booth with a dub.
- 5:00SPEAKER_05: So um honestly, but if I'm a Kansas fan, I'm not too upset with the way that young guy played, you know, getting thrown out there for his first game, collegiate game ever.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: He was he was making us scared.
- 5:11SPEAKER_05: It came down to the wire.
- 5:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah, definitely.
- 5:13SPEAKER_07: They came back there in the second half when we were getting nothing going offensively.
- 5:18SPEAKER_07: Um, luckily for us, defense played a heck of a game again, uh, really stopping a lot of red zone trips for Kansas, um, causing a few turnovers.
- 5:28SPEAKER_07: But uh the thing that I was probably the the biggest takeaway, I guess, uh for me is you won despite some of some of the things that happened for Texas Tech, specifically with the play calling, because I thought in the second half the play calling was awful until the final drive of the game.
- 5:49SPEAKER_07: Um, I thought Kitley did not do a good job.
- 5:52SPEAKER_07: Uh he kind of just continued to run Taj Brooks up the middle for what seemed like the entire second half, which we know how good Taj Brooks is, but um at some point you got to switch it up when things aren't working as well as they have.
- 6:08SPEAKER_07: Um 33 carries.
- 6:11SPEAKER_07: I think the last I think the Gouch has had something on this.
- 6:14SPEAKER_07: The last 17 carries, I think Taj Brooks was stopped at the line of scrimmage and gained no yards, maybe five of those trips.
- 6:23SPEAKER_07: So, you know, clearly the offensive line was tired.
- 6:26SPEAKER_07: Taj Brooks was probably tired, and for some reason we did not switch it up like at all.
- 6:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, I I don't blame Kitley trying to stick with that um in the second half because I think we all know that that was indeed a hurt Barron Wharton with the way he was passing all game long until the final drive.
- 6:47SPEAKER_05: Um, but it's it really you could definitely tell they was leaning on it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_05: Plus, obviously, you know, you have probably the best running back in the Big 12 um at your disposal.
- 6:55SPEAKER_05: And dude, Taj Brooks was ruining their lives the first half.
- 6:59SPEAKER_05: Like there was nothing Kansas could do, he was going to get yards.
- 7:03SPEAKER_05: There was it was futile to resist, and it was awesome to watch.
- 7:07SPEAKER_05: It was the Taj show for two whole quarters, but I'm with you, man.
- 7:10SPEAKER_05: And once once it came to the second half, it seemed like our offense just stopped.
- 7:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, you could probably obviously could argue that happened in the second quarter, too, because we didn't score anything.
- 7:19SPEAKER_05: Um, and for a while there, you got really nervous that the offense was absolutely gonna lose us this game.
- 7:24SPEAKER_05: I mean, they all the offense did not win us this game, the defense clearly won this game um and special teams.
- 7:30SPEAKER_05: Um, but it even still, I'm with you.
- 7:33SPEAKER_05: Uh, it got a little stagnant at the end for the for the meat of the game after we got it, it seems we got too comfortable, even though our lead was uh immediately diminishable.
- 7:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and I mean, you know, Barron was clearly hurt.
- 7:45SPEAKER_07: I think that needs to be that can't be overstated because uh even on the last drive of the game, um I think he at least on the pass to Bradley at the very end, I I mean he underthrew the heck out of it.
- 7:58SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're glad that Joran made a move and uh made a play on the ball, and you know, it ended up good for us.
- 8:05SPEAKER_07: But um Barron was clearly feeling it, and there's just other things you can do when your quarterback's not 100%.
- 8:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, you can do um trickery in the backfield, you can get two running back sets, you can throw short passes, you know, you can get, you know, utilize the middle of the field.
- 8:23SPEAKER_07: That's been a big complaint, is that it's either we're throwing a screen, we're throwing an outside fade, or we're running the ball with Taj Brooks, and there's nothing, uh, no, no positive plays in the middle between the hashes, and um, it's just a little frustrating.
- 8:38SPEAKER_07: Uh now, you know, I'm I'm pretty pro-Kitley when it comes to uh just the overall.
- 8:44SPEAKER_07: I think he gets a lot of heat.
- 8:45SPEAKER_07: Uh, some of it deserved, some of it not really.
- 8:48SPEAKER_07: He's done exactly what we've asked him to do in terms of using Taj Brooks and running him 25 plus times a game, but um, there's still a little more that I think he can do uh with this team specifically that I haven't quite seen.
- 9:05SPEAKER_05: I I wonder what is holding him back, you know, with how stale the play calling has been lately.
- 9:13SPEAKER_05: I I I just I wonder if it's perhaps a lack of confidence what the offense can do.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Maybe they can't execute to the full ability that he thinks is feasible during a game, or if perhaps he's just getting too comfortable with this playbook that he thinks just works to get the job done.
- 9:33SPEAKER_05: So I I get why people are frustrated.
- 9:35SPEAKER_05: I mean, even though we won, there's still obviously lots of people upset with the performance of the offense, and rightfully so.
- 9:41SPEAKER_05: I mean, I feel like you absolutely should have done better than you did.
- 9:43SPEAKER_05: Um, and some of it could could be chalked up to some really stupid bonehead penalties um that that tore your points away as well.
- 9:50SPEAKER_05: But I I'm with you, man.
- 9:52SPEAKER_05: I I think I think I'm a bit of I I'm I'm pro Kiddley.
- 9:55SPEAKER_05: Um, all I know a lot of people want to see a shift at the end of the season in a different direction um due to this season being largely a disappointment and a lot of it being on the shoulders of the offense, if not most of it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_05: Um so but I I I don't know.
- 10:08SPEAKER_05: I I don't know where the the the wizardry really is uh that we were promised, but I I'm still I'm still a believer.
- 10:16SPEAKER_05: I still like Kalee.
- 10:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I don't think you need to make any change at this point.
- 10:20SPEAKER_07: Uh, you know, we'll see how these last two games, potentially a bowl game, go this year, potentially the Big 12 championship.
- 10:29SPEAKER_07: Dream is still alive, okay, folks.
- 10:31SPEAKER_07: We're out here jaqueming right now.
- 10:33SPEAKER_07: We are still in line to potentially make the Big 12 championship.
- 10:38SPEAKER_07: We'll break that down in a second after we talk UCF.
- 10:40SPEAKER_05: But uh's got his uh his uh always sunny in Philadelphia bullets bulletin board behind him doing the GIF.
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: That's definitely been me over the last couple weeks.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: Uh just trying to find every single situation in a way a five and five Texas Tech football team can make the Big 12 championship.
- 11:00SPEAKER_07: But um last thing on Kansas, uh defense played fantastic.
- 11:05SPEAKER_07: Uh, we were going into this game, one of the worst defenses in the red zone in the Big 12, and we completely flipped the script there when it came to the Kansas offense getting into the red zone and really bending, not breaking.
- 11:19SPEAKER_07: Um, a lot of times we broke in this year and we found a way not to.
- 11:23SPEAKER_07: They had a very long drive.
- 11:25SPEAKER_07: It was like a 16-play, almost eight, nine-minute drive that resulted in zero points, and that's just huge for your defense and a real confidence booster.
- 11:34SPEAKER_07: Rabbit with an insane interception in this game.
- 11:38SPEAKER_07: Uh, I thought the the defensive line, the big guys, uh Hutchings and Bradford played fantastic all game.
- 11:44SPEAKER_07: We really kept them to a minimum.
- 11:46SPEAKER_07: And again, you're playing a true freshman quarterback, but you still made it work, and the defense held it down um for the most part, especially in the first half.
- 11:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, dude.
- 11:56SPEAKER_05: Um, I really like the way you put that.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: I I feel like the whole time we were texting each other saying, like, wow, the defense is on fire right now.
- 12:03SPEAKER_05: Nothing's getting past them.
- 12:04SPEAKER_05: It was it was truly the defense show this game.
- 12:06SPEAKER_05: Um, I know Taj was showing some stuff, and obviously, obviously the special teams was coming in clutch.
- 12:11SPEAKER_05: I mean, Austin had a great game um as well.
- 12:14SPEAKER_05: Uh, but dude, yeah, absolutely.
- 12:16SPEAKER_05: Kansas wasn't getting we just just getting absolutely shut out of points and it really, really clutch moments as well.
- 12:24SPEAKER_05: When we needed them to step up, they did.
- 12:26SPEAKER_05: And it was really, it was really awesome to see.
- 12:28SPEAKER_05: I I honestly, dude, I know we we talk so much about Kidley, but man, dude, DeRooter is the truth for Texas Tech football.
- 12:36SPEAKER_05: That dude has done magic to our defensive unit.
- 12:39SPEAKER_05: You don't just sit there and think, wow, you know, Texas Tech is gonna have a trash defense.
- 12:42SPEAKER_05: That's just not our team anymore, you know.
- 12:44SPEAKER_05: It's not your dad's it's not your Tex Tech dad's defense, dude.
- 12:47SPEAKER_05: DeRooter's the freaking man, man.
- 12:49SPEAKER_05: And happy veterans day repping the camo.
- 12:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the vet himself getting it done, dude.
- 12:55SPEAKER_05: So, no, dude.
- 12:56SPEAKER_05: And like you said, man, I really like the way the D-line played.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: I really thought we were on top of them the whole game where they were just suffocating for the most part.
- 13:03SPEAKER_05: And like I said, dude, I couldn't be happier with the way the defense played.
- 13:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:07SPEAKER_07: Really, really grinded out that victory for us.
- 13:09SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're gonna need them against UCF because UCF scores some points, I tell you what.
- 13:14SPEAKER_07: Uh, they haven't won a lot of games, but they have found a way to score some points.
- 13:19SPEAKER_07: Um, I don't know what the heck's going on with UCF.
- 13:22SPEAKER_07: You ready to talk about the Central Florida Knights?
- 13:25SPEAKER_05: Well, at first, you gotta you gotta say you go, Gino Garcia, have it all.
- 13:30SPEAKER_07: That's true, that's true.
- 13:31SPEAKER_07: We didn't mention Gino is the man, nailed it when it counts.
- 13:34SPEAKER_07: He missed one earlier, he was kicking into the wind.
- 13:37SPEAKER_07: Uh, that was a tough one to make, but when it counts, Gino's there.
- 13:41SPEAKER_07: I've been I've been thrilled with him.
- 13:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, me too, man.
- 13:44SPEAKER_05: It's it's kind of hilarious.
- 13:46SPEAKER_05: I know it's Kansas, but I like how often they're saying how often we beat them.
- 13:52SPEAKER_05: And yeah, it's like Texas Tech has won 17 of the last 18 games.
- 13:57SPEAKER_05: It's like we don't do that to anybody.
- 13:59SPEAKER_05: So I'm glad I'm glad we can finally say somebody.
- 14:03SPEAKER_05: And damn you, Matt Wells.
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 14:07SPEAKER_05: That game was one of the worst nights of my life, but oh, we don't even we don't even need to be there.
- 14:11SPEAKER_05: We just upset ranked Kansas.
- 14:13SPEAKER_05: So uh we're we're we're in a good place.
- 14:15SPEAKER_05: So we we can move on to the uh the Central Florida Knights.
- 14:19SPEAKER_07: UCF five and five, two and five in the Big 12.
- 14:23SPEAKER_07: Two-game win streak, though, uh beating Cincinnati by two, and then they went and just absolutely thromped Oklahoma State last week, to everybody's surprise.
- 14:34SPEAKER_07: Um 45-3, they beat the Cowboys, who were in the driver's seat for a Big 12 championship appearance, and um uh Bowman the Showman, not not a great showing against uh CCF.
- 14:49SPEAKER_05: Dude, OSU was like the hottest team in the Big 12, and then they go into Orlando and just utterly poop their pants.
- 14:56SPEAKER_05: Did you see that?
- 14:57SPEAKER_05: Did you see all the pictures of Mike Gundy's dog behind him?
- 15:02SPEAKER_06: I did.
- 15:02SPEAKER_05: I just saw that before we heard the face on his dog, and all of OSU fans were like, I feel that, you know.
- 15:09SPEAKER_05: But dude, that was scary.
- 15:11SPEAKER_05: And but I I really don't think it's gonna translate further to us.
- 15:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's gonna be in our house, it's gonna be our last game in the Jones for the year senior night.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: I I I just think it was just a weird night for both teams whenever it came to OSU and UCF.
- 15:26SPEAKER_05: Uh, I really think we're gonna we're gonna slide by UCF, and I I hope we do it pretty convincingly.
- 15:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I hope so too.
- 15:34SPEAKER_07: Um, I'm not gonna pretend like I think we're gonna kill them.
- 15:37SPEAKER_07: I think it's gonna be a tight game.
- 15:39SPEAKER_07: UCF can score the football.
- 15:41SPEAKER_07: Um, John Reese Plumley, John Rice Plumley, I still don't know how to say it.
- 15:45SPEAKER_07: Their quarterback is back.
- 15:47SPEAKER_07: Uh, 1,572 yards on the year, 11 touchdowns, seven interceptions.
- 15:52SPEAKER_07: Can use his legs.
- 15:53SPEAKER_07: He's the third leading rusher on UCF right now.
- 15:56SPEAKER_07: They have a fantastic running back as well.
- 15:59SPEAKER_07: It seems like the Big 12 is just loaded with good running back talent.
- 16:02SPEAKER_07: RJ Harvey, thousand-yard rusher already, 12 touchdowns on the year for him.
- 16:07SPEAKER_07: Also good in the past game.
- 16:09SPEAKER_07: He's been involved.
- 16:10SPEAKER_07: Um, Javon Baker and Kobe Hudson are the wide receivers to watch on this UCF team.
- 16:16SPEAKER_07: Both have 700 plus receiving yards on the year and five touchdowns.
- 16:20SPEAKER_07: Um, I think one of them has seven touchdowns on the year for reference.
- 16:24SPEAKER_07: Uh Tech's leading receiver right now has 423 yards.
- 16:28SPEAKER_07: So they have two guys that have 700 plus yards.
- 16:31SPEAKER_07: Um, they've obviously utilized the pass game much better than we have, no surprise.
- 16:36SPEAKER_07: Uh, but they also have a great rusher, so they're kind of they're really balanced in their attack.
- 16:41SPEAKER_05: Why do they have to figure it out before they play us, though?
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: Like why why'd that have to happen?
- 16:46SPEAKER_05: Um, it but this is a really important game, dude.
- 16:49SPEAKER_05: Um, obviously, this is more so the win you're banking on before you head off to Austin to solidify your bull bid.
- 16:56SPEAKER_05: And obviously, you want to send the fan home fans home happy with the final game, final dub at home and for the to to close out the season.
- 17:04SPEAKER_05: Additionally, winning this game would put you 100% in the win column in the Big 12 conference.
- 17:14SPEAKER_05: So you get to have another winning season in conference, which probably hasn't happened back to back in a really long time.
- 17:21SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I think it was uh I think it was 09, 08, 09 was the last two.
- 17:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_05: So, and that is progress, like that is bona fide progress right there.
- 17:30SPEAKER_05: Obviously, the season has been kind of a a silent fart, um generally speaking, compared to what we wanted to do.
- 17:38SPEAKER_07: At times a very loud fart.
- 17:39SPEAKER_05: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_05: At times it was uh you had to cough to cover it up, so you know, to throw some benefit of doubt in the people around you.
- 17:50SPEAKER_05: Like, was that a fart?
- 17:52SPEAKER_05: Or was he just coughing?
- 17:54SPEAKER_05: You know, but anyway, absolutely that's what you come to talking tech podcast for.
- 18:01SPEAKER_05: Um, it's for our jokes compared to the season.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: So I I I know we're all really disappointed with the way the season has going gone.
- 18:09SPEAKER_05: And obviously, if you go 2-0 for the rest of this year, that's pretty much kind of flushed down the drain.
- 18:14SPEAKER_05: You're feeling pretty dang good about yourself.
- 18:16SPEAKER_05: But these next two games are so important to solidify to the fan base, to the program, um, and to the conference that you are making progress and that you're indeed becoming a force to be reckoned with to be in a discussion and contention with going to Arlington and making some real noise.
- 18:31SPEAKER_05: So we really got to go in and get it done, man.
- 18:34SPEAKER_07: Look, Joey McGuire is six and one in November as a head coach.
- 18:39SPEAKER_07: Not bad.
- 18:40SPEAKER_07: Not bad.
- 18:40SPEAKER_07: Uh clearly last year and this year are very similar in the fact that we're starting to play and win some games towards the end uh of the Big 12 slate.
- 18:48SPEAKER_07: Ended off on a four-game win streak last year.
- 18:50SPEAKER_07: So far, we're on a two-game uh win streak this year, uh, with two games left to play, potentially a bowl game.
- 18:57SPEAKER_07: Um Joey knows how to keep his team together.
- 19:00SPEAKER_07: This is something that I am happy with, and it's a testament to the players, it's a testament to Joey and the program and what we're kind of building, is despite a really disappointing year.
- 19:13SPEAKER_07: I mean, by all means, it's been disappointing.
- 19:16SPEAKER_07: We were expecting a whole lot more from this team, from uh, you know, wins-wise, just production-wise.
- 19:24SPEAKER_07: We've been expecting a whole lot, but for this team to still be fighting and still be given a shit this late in the year with a five-and-five record, um, it means a lot.
- 19:34SPEAKER_07: And it means that Joey's got the right people in the building, it means that he's got the right players in the building.
- 19:38SPEAKER_07: And uh, I I think that's that's honestly something you know, you could call it a moral victory, but uh you're just you're really happy with the state of the team despite all of all that's happened.
- 19:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think you put it perfectly, dude.
- 19:53SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, I I I didn't I don't want to just smooth over that it hasn't been a real kick to the balls this year, it absolutely has been, um, and a real knock on the pride.
- 20:04SPEAKER_05: Um, I saw a tweet from uh I think it was maybe a UT account that was asking, like, what what has been the uh the fan base that has gone the most silent since you know since the summer.
- 20:16SPEAKER_05: And dude, I I'm ashamed to say like all the ones that are saying text tech, I really don't think they were wrong.
- 20:21SPEAKER_07: Like, you know, like we're we're not silent though.
- 20:24SPEAKER_07: Like we're still loud, like we're still present.
- 20:27SPEAKER_07: We just we become more bragging, yeah.
- 20:30SPEAKER_07: We're not bragging, we're making fun of ourselves at this point because the only the only thing that eases the pain is laughter.
- 20:36SPEAKER_07: So exactly, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_07: We just start making fun of ourselves when we start losing.
- 20:41SPEAKER_07: But that's typical um for what we've gone through.
- 20:44SPEAKER_07: I think this is it's called coping, Steven.
- 20:46SPEAKER_07: And we you gotta learn how to do it.
- 20:49SPEAKER_07: It is you have to if you're gonna survive being a uh Texas Tech fan.
- 20:52SPEAKER_07: You gotta learn.
- 20:53SPEAKER_07: But all we do is win.
- 20:54SPEAKER_07: Let's make that clear again.
- 20:56SPEAKER_07: Again, five and oh this week in multiple sports.
- 21:00SPEAKER_07: We're out here.
- 21:01SPEAKER_07: Um we still have a chance to make the Victor Championship.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: All right, let's hear the schizophrenic rant again.
- 21:08SPEAKER_07: Are you ready for this?
- 21:10SPEAKER_05: Please, please do it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_07: Okay, we're big Cyclone fans from here on out.
- 21:14SPEAKER_07: Oh, they're playing ET.
- 21:16SPEAKER_07: We would have been anyway.
- 21:17SPEAKER_07: Despite that, we love Iowa State.
- 21:21SPEAKER_07: We want them to win out because Iowa State plays two very important opponents to end the season.
- 21:27SPEAKER_07: One is Texas and one is Kansas State.
- 21:30SPEAKER_07: Kansas State has already beat us.
- 21:32SPEAKER_07: They own the tiebreaker, Kansas State needs to lose out.
- 21:35SPEAKER_07: They need to lose both these games.
- 21:37SPEAKER_07: And it's possible because they go to Kansas, yes, to Kansas, and then they go and play Iowa State at home in Parmageddon.
- 21:47SPEAKER_07: So that's two losable games for Kansas.
- 21:52SPEAKER_07: Texas, we need them to lose out.
- 21:55SPEAKER_07: They TCU didn't get it done last week.
- 21:57SPEAKER_07: They had a uh decent comeback there, almost had It at the end, but they could not pull it out.
- 22:02SPEAKER_07: Uh, they are going to Ames this weekend.
- 22:05SPEAKER_07: Very losable game, I think, in my opinion.
- 22:08SPEAKER_05: Especially for UT.
- 22:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, especially for UT.
- 22:11SPEAKER_07: It'd be hilarious if they blew it.
- 22:12SPEAKER_07: And then obviously they end the season playing Texas Tech.
- 22:15SPEAKER_07: And that would be uh if we beat them, we would end with the same conference record and own the tiebreaker there.
- 22:20SPEAKER_05: Well, friend of the pod, Kyle Umling, and enemy of the Twitter, um has tweeted that UT has lost for the last five trips to Ames.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: We love it.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: So, yeah, even when they whatever, even where Iowa State has been like trash, you know, in the low uh Matt Campbell years, which arguably this one is, they've been able to get one over on UT.
- 22:39SPEAKER_05: So I feel actually pretty good about the cyclone's chances against the horns coming uh coming come Saturday.
- 22:45SPEAKER_05: So, and obviously, I feel really good about our chances, uh, just from an emotional standpoint, whenever we get to get around to Austin, just because I I really think our boys are gonna bring it and we're gonna have a real fighting chance to get that done.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: So, this, you know, after you have said this out loud, as your schizo ran is this the is this an app?
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Is it done?
- 23:02SPEAKER_05: Is there anything else?
- 23:04SPEAKER_07: I could keep I could keep going, but you can feel free to comment.
- 23:07SPEAKER_07: No, no, please, then continue.
- 23:09SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're big Cyclone and we're big Jayhawks fans this weekend.
- 23:13SPEAKER_07: So though those are the two big, big games that need to go in our favor.
- 23:17SPEAKER_07: Uh, because if either of those go the opposite way, we're donezo.
- 23:21SPEAKER_07: Um, West Virginia, we still need them to lose another game.
- 23:26SPEAKER_07: Uh they play Cincinnati in Morgantown this week and at Baylor.
- 23:32SPEAKER_07: So we need them to lose one of those two.
- 23:34SPEAKER_07: Are you kidding me?
- 23:35SPEAKER_07: We do.
- 23:36SPEAKER_05: Are you you even as you said that you didn't believe it?
- 23:39SPEAKER_07: I I don't believe any of this is gonna happen, but it's an option.
- 23:44SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, we need them to lose one of those games.
- 23:47SPEAKER_07: And if anything, Neil Brown's gonna lose one of those games, maybe.
- 23:50SPEAKER_07: Who knows?
- 23:51SPEAKER_07: Uh, they own the tiebreaker with us, unfortunately, and we need them to finish a game below in the Big 12 um record.
- 23:58SPEAKER_07: Kansas, we it doesn't matter what Kansas does.
- 24:01SPEAKER_07: We actually want Kansas to do well to end the season.
- 24:03SPEAKER_07: So, regardless, we're gonna finish if we win out, win the same record as Kansas, and we own the tiebreaker.
- 24:09SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so this last part uh I I don't know.
- 24:13SPEAKER_07: Very confusing.
- 24:14SPEAKER_07: Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
- 24:16SPEAKER_07: Um you know, I'd rather they lose both games to end the year, so there's no tiebreaker that needs to go into play.
- 24:27SPEAKER_07: These are two teams that we have not played.
- 24:29SPEAKER_07: I'm not sure how the tiebreakers work when it comes to that now, but uh we we would need BYU to really pull out some magic here against the Oklahoma schools to end the year.
- 24:40SPEAKER_07: Oklahoma State needs to lose at Houston, and then they need to lose at home against BYU uh to really uh solidify Texas Tech as a as a uh uh a spot in the Big 12 championship.
- 24:54SPEAKER_07: Houston is so buns.
- 24:57SPEAKER_07: They're bad.
- 24:57SPEAKER_07: They're very bad, they're so bad.
- 24:59SPEAKER_07: They're very bad.
- 25:00SPEAKER_07: They're going to Houston.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I don't care.
- 25:03SPEAKER_05: No, I'm so bad.
- 25:05SPEAKER_05: I don't think it's Houston at home has been no scarier than Houston on the road.
- 25:09SPEAKER_05: Oklahoma State was buns last week.
- 25:12SPEAKER_07: Let's they were, dude.
- 25:13SPEAKER_07: Let's get that same Oklahoma State team going here.
- 25:16SPEAKER_07: Um, Oklahoma is at BYU and then at home in Norman against TCU to end the year.
- 25:22SPEAKER_07: Okay, that those are two that you can use a little more so.
- 25:26SPEAKER_05: A little more so, yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_07: A little more so.
- 25:28SPEAKER_07: Um, but yeah, I mean, obviously, very long shot for this to happen.
- 25:33SPEAKER_07: Um, but it's still alive.
- 25:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:36SPEAKER_05: All right, the the dream lives.
- 25:38SPEAKER_05: We just gotta go do our part, which I care about more anyway.
- 25:40SPEAKER_05: You know, in my head, we're not going to Arlington.
- 25:43SPEAKER_07: So we're not going to you shouldn't think we're going to Arlington.
- 25:46SPEAKER_07: I'm just saying it's an option.
- 25:49SPEAKER_05: But finishing out 2-0 here, especially obviously putting one over on UT on the door out, as is gonna be would taste just as sweet.
- 25:58SPEAKER_05: So I'm I'm hoping for that, Steven.
- 26:01SPEAKER_07: I'm hoping to win two games to end the season, uh, and finish off on a high note, go to a bowl game, and uh, you know, take it from there, see what we got next season.
- 26:11SPEAKER_07: But uh shout out to the seniors.
- 26:13SPEAKER_07: We're honoring 24 members of the senior class on Saturday: Tony Bradford, Miles Cole, Baylor Cup, Malik Dunlap, Jalen Hutchings, Tyreek Matthews, Jacob Mauch, Austin McNamara, Tyler Owens, Bryce Robinson, Tyler Shuck, Cole Spencer, Rusty Stotz, Dadrian Taylor Demerson, uh, Henry Teeter, Xavier White, Dennis Wilburn, and then five more that are not technically in their last year of eligibility, but still gonna honor them and likely they will leave.
- 26:50SPEAKER_07: Um, Taj Brooks being one of those, very uh sad, especially with the season that he still does have an extra year if he wants it, but there's by no means should he take that.
- 27:01SPEAKER_07: Uh, with how great his season has been, he needs to go to the NFL.
- 27:05SPEAKER_07: Um, Matt Keeler, who I think is a sophomore for some reason, is on here.
- 27:10SPEAKER_07: Maybe there's like some hidden thing, he's potentially retiring from football.
- 27:14SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 27:14SPEAKER_07: Um, Caleb Rogers, Robert Wooten, and Monroe Mills.
- 27:18SPEAKER_07: So two of your offensive linemen there that technically have another year of eligibility if they want it, um, but might not use it.
- 27:26SPEAKER_07: So um really, you know, going into this season, this senior class to get all them back for another year and using uh in a lot of these situations their COVID year, their extra year of eligibility was really fun because a lot of these guys have shown out despite the record, despite um the performance by the overall team.
- 27:47SPEAKER_07: Uh, Rabbits had a really good year.
- 27:49SPEAKER_07: Jalen Hutchings has had a really good year.
- 27:50SPEAKER_07: Tony Bradford's been awesome.
- 27:52SPEAKER_07: These guys are red raider staples, and uh, you know, just thrilled that they wore the red and black.
- 28:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it's fun to just to see who you know who can move on to Sundays and rep the red and black even further as well.
- 28:06SPEAKER_05: Um, it's it's always bittersweet, you know, because it's it's gonna be weird watching Saturday football without those guys just because you know you've you've grown so accustomed to seeing them on the field.
- 28:15SPEAKER_05: So, but dude, it's it's always it's always great to to honor them, and then obviously welcoming a new batch of guys to start uh following as well.
- 28:23SPEAKER_05: So uh looking forward to that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_07: Shout out our guy SmackNamara, unbelievable, man.
- 28:28SPEAKER_07: Friend of the pod, friend of the pod, Austin McNamara.
- 28:32SPEAKER_07: Also, shout out Tyler Shuck, dude's been through it, dude uh deserves it.
- 28:36SPEAKER_07: He's been absolutely through it.
- 28:37SPEAKER_07: He deserves praise and uh you know uh good luck to all these guys on the next level and whatever they decide to do after football.
- 28:45SPEAKER_07: Um basketball?
- 28:48SPEAKER_07: Shootie hoops, shooty hoops.
- 28:50SPEAKER_07: We are undefeated.
- 28:52SPEAKER_07: We're undefeated, we're two and oh, yeah uh two wins, uh one against Texas AM Commerce, go Lions, one against San Jose State, who was a pretty good team.
- 29:03SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 29:04SPEAKER_07: They kind of made us poop our pants a little bit, wasn't it?
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: They did a little bit, uh a little a little frustrating.
- 29:11SPEAKER_07: Defensive slug fest.
- 29:13SPEAKER_07: Um I have a couple early thoughts on this year's basketball team.
- 29:18SPEAKER_07: Disclaimer, it's the second game of the season, the third game of the season, and there's far too many people doing way too much complaining.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: No, it's time to overreact to both games because they both can overreact in very different ways.
- 29:34SPEAKER_07: I I know.
- 29:34SPEAKER_07: Um offense needs work, I think that's pretty clear.
- 29:38SPEAKER_07: Ne more guys moving off the ball.
- 29:40SPEAKER_07: There's a lot of standing around, there's not a lot of movement uh on the offensive side.
- 29:45SPEAKER_07: Transition's been kind of rough to watch.
- 29:47SPEAKER_07: We'll make a good defensive play and then uh not finish a lot of the time in the fast breaks.
- 29:52SPEAKER_07: Um, and yeah, it's just it's been a work in progress.
- 29:55SPEAKER_07: It's like this team is completely brand new with four new starters, and um, you know, they're still learning to play together.
- 30:01SPEAKER_07: So uh I I'm not putting too much stock into that.
- 30:03SPEAKER_07: They'll obviously they'll learn as it goes, but um, yeah, definitely not not the best sight to see early on on the offensive side.
- 30:12SPEAKER_05: So are you scared that we're it's the same kind of text tech philosophy it has been for the past few years where the offense just you know it isn't nearly up to snuff that the defense really is um like our defensive philosophies have been, you know, defense has been locked down, scary, grinded out while offenses just been like boop, boop.
- 30:31SPEAKER_07: I'm not making any firm opinions on this team yet until I see a few more.
- 30:34SPEAKER_07: No, I need you to go extreme.
- 30:35SPEAKER_05: This is a podcast, Steven.
- 30:36SPEAKER_07: I am not I am concerned that there may not be a lot of outside shooting on this team.
- 30:41SPEAKER_07: Uh when Pop's not making them, obviously our offense really struggles.
- 30:46SPEAKER_07: Uh, Chance McMillan was supposed to be a guy coming in that's supposed to uh be an outside shooter.
- 30:51SPEAKER_07: He was off against San Jose State and uh wasn't really providing much.
- 30:55SPEAKER_07: Um, Darien Williams has been a really nice sight to see.
- 30:58SPEAKER_07: He's probably been my favorite player to watch this year on this Texas Tech team.
- 31:01SPEAKER_07: He can shoot it, he's been making some shots.
- 31:04SPEAKER_07: Um, and then there's like Kerwin, and he doesn't play or he plays very minimal, uh, just for stretches at times.
- 31:11SPEAKER_07: And those are kind of your shooters.
- 31:12SPEAKER_07: Joe Tucson, not really a shooter.
- 31:14SPEAKER_07: Uh Devin Cambridge, not really a shooter.
- 31:17SPEAKER_07: You don't have a lot of, you know, Lamar's not a real good shooter.
- 31:20SPEAKER_07: So I think it could be a concern there.
- 31:22SPEAKER_07: And um, you know, you need shooting in today's basketball, and uh, you know, you just hope uh the offense this is where that kind of off-ball movement really needs to be in effect here.
- 31:33SPEAKER_07: A lot of pick and roll play.
- 31:34SPEAKER_07: I think we can utilize the pick and roll a lot more than what we're doing with Warren down low and pop and those type of guys, but um, yeah, the outside shooting is concerning.
- 31:44SPEAKER_05: So, do you do you think the the tail of two games here, do you think it's just flat out the talent that we were up against was completely different, or do you think our guys came out and played differently as well?
- 31:53SPEAKER_07: Well, San Jose State's a good team.
- 31:55SPEAKER_07: Like that I I know that they're San Jose State, they're not a big name or anything, but that that was a good team, and they were a big team.
- 32:01SPEAKER_07: So when we had our surprisingly, our best uh unit that ended the game was our smaller unit with Devin Cambridge kind of playing the five there at six foot six.
- 32:11SPEAKER_07: Um, but yeah, you could tell we really struggled with their size.
- 32:15SPEAKER_07: Um, we couldn't uh on the offensive side, we couldn't really get good shots at all.
- 32:20SPEAKER_07: Um, we weren't getting to the free throw line.
- 32:22SPEAKER_07: Well, Warren was getting to the free throw line, but everybody else kind of wasn't.
- 32:26SPEAKER_07: Um but yeah, I I think the length when we play lengthy teams, which a lot of these big 12 teams are, may be uh a little difficult.
- 32:35SPEAKER_07: So that's when the softball movement and these pick and rolls need to really be utilized and uh get some easier shots at the rim.
- 32:42SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so I obviously it it seems like a pretty good test here early.
- 32:45SPEAKER_05: Um, you know, hosting a team like this.
- 32:47SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's college basketball.
- 32:49SPEAKER_05: So it's not like you just played uh Stephen F.
- 32:53SPEAKER_05: Austin in football.
- 32:54SPEAKER_05: You know, it's it's it's obviously, you know, on in the in this in this sport, really anyone can go out there and have a great night and have a different result.
- 33:01SPEAKER_05: So um, but yeah, man, the final score does say, you know, we we beat them by double digits.
- 33:06SPEAKER_07: So well we ended we ended the game off strong.
- 33:08SPEAKER_07: We ended off on an 18 to two run.
- 33:10SPEAKER_07: Uh they really started something clicked there at the end, and that was a really that was fun basketball to watch.
- 33:16SPEAKER_07: Joe was great down the stretch, Darion was great down the stretch, and the other part of this is defensively, this team is strong, really solid defensively.
- 33:25SPEAKER_07: I think we're holding both of these teams to an average of 44 points a game, which is terrific.
- 33:30SPEAKER_07: Uh, you should be doing that against these teams.
- 33:32SPEAKER_07: Um, and that's kind of gonna be a staple for you.
- 33:35SPEAKER_07: We got we have length uh with Warren down low.
- 33:39SPEAKER_07: Pop and Darion and Joe are really getting involved uh with deflections, getting their hands in there.
- 33:45SPEAKER_07: Um, yeah, defensively, I I'm thrilled.
- 33:49SPEAKER_05: All right, so you have to overreact right now.
- 33:51SPEAKER_05: What's your overreaction?
- 33:54SPEAKER_05: Um, do you want to go first?
- 33:56SPEAKER_05: Sure, go ahead.
- 33:57SPEAKER_05: All right, defensively, we are still gonna be that team that everyone hates playing.
- 34:01SPEAKER_05: You know, we are still they're just gonna despise us because we will grind you out, okay, and not in a sexy way, in a in a strong defense way, you know what I mean?
- 34:11SPEAKER_05: So, but but maybe offense, you know, just needs some time, yeah.
- 34:15SPEAKER_05: But but yeah, that's that's my overreaction.
- 34:18SPEAKER_05: Let's hear yours.
- 34:19SPEAKER_05: We're gonna get eaten alive by a good big man.
- 34:22SPEAKER_07: Come on, uh that's and unfortunately, we there's a lot of good big men in the Big 12.
- 34:28SPEAKER_07: Um, not that Warren's not a good player, I think he's doing a pretty good job uh defensively.
- 34:33SPEAKER_07: He's blocking some shots, he's helping off ball, but um our size is really concerning because behind Warren, you have Rob Jennings, Bob Jennings, who is not playing a lot, has made some mistakes.
- 34:46SPEAKER_07: Looks like he's not really um been Grant McCasslin's uh favorite player to put on the floor.
- 34:52SPEAKER_07: Uh, we're playing the true freshman, Emily Yalahoe, a lot, who his minutes have been uh eh uh to say the least.
- 35:00SPEAKER_07: Not that they've been bad and he's played very few, but um, you just don't have a lot of depth at the big big positions.
- 35:06SPEAKER_07: And if Warren gets in foul trouble, uh it may be a long night for you.
- 35:11SPEAKER_05: Steven, you're you're what 6'2, 6'3?
- 35:13SPEAKER_05: 6'3.
- 35:14SPEAKER_05: All right.
- 35:15SPEAKER_05: Well let's get you a jersey, baby.
- 35:19SPEAKER_07: That's not that's I'm Lamar Washington tight.
- 35:21SPEAKER_07: Like, no, that's not gonna help at all.
- 35:24SPEAKER_05: You're tall, right?
- 35:25SPEAKER_05: I mean, come on.
- 35:26SPEAKER_07: I'm like a slower Boris Dio out here.
- 35:29SPEAKER_05: Uh you and your like antiquated uh you know uh unknown Spurs players that you just like to bring up every once in a while.
- 35:38SPEAKER_05: People know Dio.
- 35:40SPEAKER_06: People that know people that know ball know Boris Dio, all right.
- 35:43SPEAKER_05: I know, but that's just that's not a name.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: That's like, you know, like Boris Dio.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Do you have do you have any final touches on this before I ask you a more important basketball question?
- 35:56SPEAKER_07: Um I've been happy with Warren.
- 35:59SPEAKER_07: I think a lot of people are complaining about Warren.
- 36:02SPEAKER_07: There has been parts of his game that I haven't been uh thrilled with per se.
- 36:07SPEAKER_07: I think he brings the ball down way too much.
- 36:08SPEAKER_07: Dude, you're seven feet tall.
- 36:10SPEAKER_07: Grab the rebound and put it right back up.
- 36:11SPEAKER_07: You don't have to hesitate, you don't have to pump fake.
- 36:14SPEAKER_07: You're you're a big you're a big MFR, dude.
- 36:16SPEAKER_07: Just put it back up.
- 36:17SPEAKER_07: You'll get fouled or you'll potentially get a dunk there.
- 36:21SPEAKER_07: Um, but his rebounding has been great.
- 36:24SPEAKER_07: I I think he had 12 in the game against San Jose State.
- 36:27SPEAKER_07: He's really grinding on that end, and you can tell uh he cares.
- 36:30SPEAKER_07: And for a big guy to do that is a is a good sign.
- 36:33SPEAKER_07: I I I like how Warren's played early on.
- 36:36SPEAKER_05: So Warren's Warren's getting your sticker, Steven's uh basketball sticker for the for the week.
- 36:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah, him and him in Cambridge and Darion Williams.
- 36:42SPEAKER_07: Darion Williams that's three six.
- 36:44SPEAKER_07: Definitely he's got my sticker.
- 36:45SPEAKER_07: Darien Williams has my sticker.
- 36:48SPEAKER_05: Flip-flopping here.
- 36:49SPEAKER_05: The sticker's losing adhesive as you peel it.
- 36:51SPEAKER_05: You peel it off and put it on somebody else.
- 36:54SPEAKER_07: I'll take it off.
- 36:55SPEAKER_07: Give give the sticker to Darien Williams.
- 36:57SPEAKER_07: You know who I'm gonna give the sticker to?
- 36:59SPEAKER_07: Go ahead.
- 37:00SPEAKER_05: The Raider riot, baby.
- 37:02SPEAKER_05: Did you see that line out the door an hour before tip off against AM Commerce?
- 37:07SPEAKER_05: No disrespect to the Lions, a mighty program, formidable.
- 37:11SPEAKER_05: But dude, that thing was already heading towards the dorm rooms.
- 37:15SPEAKER_05: I I just the student section in both football and basketball has been legit.
- 37:19SPEAKER_05: And I I've really been impressed, impressed with the uh the this incoming student, not incoming, but the the current student class, man.
- 37:25SPEAKER_05: They are out there, they are showing up.
- 37:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah, definitely.
- 37:29SPEAKER_07: It's been fun.
- 37:30SPEAKER_07: Uh, I'm I'm glad for either, you know, we've had a lot of changeover at head coach, but uh, you know, even throughout all the changes and stuff, the fan base is still showing up.
- 37:39SPEAKER_07: Season ticket holders are going to the games.
- 37:41SPEAKER_07: Uh San Jose State was a little more of a rough showing, but that was a 1 p.m.
- 37:45SPEAKER_07: on a Sunday game.
- 37:46SPEAKER_07: So you're never gonna you're never gonna get a big crowd then.
- 37:49SPEAKER_07: But um, yeah, it's once conference play starts.
- 37:52SPEAKER_07: I mean, this is one of the toughest places to play in college basketball.
- 37:55SPEAKER_05: No, absolutely, man.
- 37:56SPEAKER_05: I and I fully believe that.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: Um, so Steven, the important question time.
- 38:00SPEAKER_05: What do we think of the Rothstein uh Grant McCastlin name, the slogan?
- 38:05SPEAKER_05: What do we think?
- 38:06SPEAKER_07: I think it's fine.
- 38:07SPEAKER_05: You think it's fine?
- 38:09SPEAKER_07: Six out of ten.
- 38:12SPEAKER_07: It's fine.
- 38:13SPEAKER_07: It's fine.
- 38:14SPEAKER_07: I don't, you know, I why why is it miracle Mac?
- 38:17SPEAKER_07: Why is it a miracle?
- 38:18SPEAKER_05: Well, they're all over dramatic.
- 38:21SPEAKER_05: Like, that's the that's his thing.
- 38:22SPEAKER_07: Well, I understand, but like what like there needs to be something like you know, he's got like West Virginia tougher uh tougher places, tougher than a weekend at your in laws, yeah.
- 38:32SPEAKER_07: Tougher than a weekend at your in-laws.
- 38:34SPEAKER_07: Like, that's a good one.
- 38:35SPEAKER_07: Like that's West Virginia, like that makes sense.
- 38:38SPEAKER_07: You know, Michigan State more guards than Shawshank.
- 38:42SPEAKER_07: Like, that's cool.
- 38:43SPEAKER_07: That's like it makes sense.
- 38:44SPEAKER_07: They have a lot of good guards on their team, but uh, I don't really understand why Grant McCasslin's a miracle, I guess.
- 38:51SPEAKER_05: Um you know, I I I I like it because it seemed to have come quite naturally and very quickly.
- 38:58SPEAKER_05: It didn't take him time, it didn't take it, it took him two games at Texas Tech for him to develop a slogan for uh uh Grant McCasslin.
- 39:07SPEAKER_05: I I don't mind it.
- 39:08SPEAKER_05: I mean, I I I people people really are seem to be like going to G Mack.
- 39:13SPEAKER_05: I mean, Mac isn't really in his name.
- 39:16SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's Mick, but you know, but hey, we'll we'll we'll let it we'll we'll let it slide.
- 39:21SPEAKER_05: We'll let it slide as a Mick.
- 39:23SPEAKER_05: We'll let it we'll let it slide.
- 39:24SPEAKER_07: Um did you get together with the congressional of Mick?
- 39:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there's McDonald over there, uh Mick Mc McGruver over there.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: All right, but um no, I I like it so it sounds what'd you like?
- 39:38SPEAKER_05: Did you like the the defense never sleeps better?
- 39:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I kind of did.
- 39:44SPEAKER_07: Oh come on, the defense never never rests, I think is what it was.
- 39:48SPEAKER_07: And that's because that's what Adams is known or was known for was his defense, and we don't say his name, uh yeah, I know Goldemore or something here.
- 39:57SPEAKER_07: Um I was it is funny, it's funny and it's kind of weird.
- 40:01SPEAKER_07: The announcers have have been ESPN plus guys, it's Chris Level and John Harris who are Texas Tech guys.
- 40:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah, why do they refuse to say Emily Yalloho's name?
- 40:12SPEAKER_07: They are it's like a weird, it's like a weird juju.
- 40:16SPEAKER_07: They're like, There's no way I can call this man Emily.
- 40:18SPEAKER_07: There's I'm not gonna do it.
- 40:20SPEAKER_07: They probably don't want to say it wrong.
- 40:22SPEAKER_07: Ask him, you're on the court.
- 40:24SPEAKER_07: He's I'm sure these guys know them.
- 40:27SPEAKER_07: Like, go off and say, hey, how do you say your name?
- 40:29SPEAKER_07: Like, is it Emily?
- 40:30SPEAKER_07: If it's Emily, that's fine.
- 40:31SPEAKER_07: You're finish or whatever, like a different culture, you know.
- 40:35SPEAKER_07: But I it's like they're it's like it's like Voldemort, like you said, it's like I can't, I cannot call this man Emily.
- 40:42SPEAKER_07: I'm not gonna do it.
- 40:43SPEAKER_07: Just lean in Emily with the basket.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: I mean, just really get in there with it.
- 40:48SPEAKER_07: But they're kind of making fun of his name.
- 40:51SPEAKER_07: They're like, Oh, I can't say I'm not gonna say that.
- 40:53SPEAKER_07: We're gonna call him EY.
- 40:54SPEAKER_07: It's like, why, why?
- 40:58SPEAKER_05: Um, I I will say though, I I think that's one of my favorite parts about ESPN Plus is that it's treated like a local radio broadcast, yeah.
- 41:05SPEAKER_05: And I kind of dig it, I'm not gonna lie.
- 41:07SPEAKER_07: Well, it's always it's always good to like have you know Chris Levels on a lot of tech stuff, and John Harris has been at it forever, but I just think it's weird how you're just refusing to say this man's name.
- 41:20SPEAKER_05: Well, I I I I I don't get it.
- 41:21SPEAKER_05: I don't get it either.
- 41:22SPEAKER_05: I just just lean into it, baby.
- 41:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I guess.
- 41:25SPEAKER_07: Um uh a couple upcoming points for men's basketball.
- 41:30SPEAKER_07: We're supposed to play Villanova here, battle for Atlantis next week, uh, Thanksgiving week.
- 41:35SPEAKER_07: What do you win?
- 41:36SPEAKER_05: Like the keys to Atlantis?
- 41:37SPEAKER_07: Uh you get a trophy.
- 41:39SPEAKER_05: You may win Atlantis, you may win the underwater the mythical hidden city residual to the winner.
- 41:48SPEAKER_07: I think you get the entire hotel.
- 41:52SPEAKER_07: It's a resort, it's great.
- 41:54SPEAKER_07: You can go whenever you want for a whole year.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 41:58SPEAKER_05: Uh no, but even though you're at college.
- 42:02SPEAKER_07: Villanova is our game one opponent in this uh preseason tournament, and um they just lost a pen upset.
- 42:12SPEAKER_07: So it may not be the resume building win that we may think it is.
- 42:16SPEAKER_07: Obviously, you still have to beat Villanova.
- 42:19SPEAKER_07: Um, and now they may have a chip on the shoulder.
- 42:21SPEAKER_07: I don't know, but uh it's it's not great, not a great start for the Wildcats.
- 42:26SPEAKER_05: Do you so uh do you have any respect for a team that loses loses to a bunch of freaking nerds like that?
- 42:32SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_07: Penn really?
- 42:34SPEAKER_07: Penn, yes, the Ivy League school.
- 42:36SPEAKER_07: That's like not even one of the good Ivy League schools.
- 42:39SPEAKER_07: It's it's yes, it is.
- 42:41SPEAKER_07: Look, all the Ivy League schools are good, but like Penn is like the last one you think of.
- 42:46SPEAKER_07: Not Cornell.
- 42:47SPEAKER_07: Well, Cornell it it has fame because of the office.
- 42:51SPEAKER_05: Well, all right, fine.
- 42:52SPEAKER_05: Well, no respect for them.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: They they got shot in the locker by the nerds, okay?
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: You don't want to be that's supposed to be you doing that to the nerd, not the nerd pulling the Uno reverse card on you.
- 43:03SPEAKER_05: No respect.
- 43:03SPEAKER_05: We're gonna kill them.
- 43:04SPEAKER_05: Uh tech by two two two touchdowns.
- 43:09SPEAKER_07: Uh just thought I'd mention that.
- 43:11SPEAKER_07: Um, also up next, we play Texas AM Corpus.
- 43:14SPEAKER_07: This will be our third opportunity to beat a Texas AM branch university, which is great.
- 43:20SPEAKER_07: Hey, Islanders 3 0 against Texas AM.
- 43:24SPEAKER_05: I'll I'll take really a stretch of the imagination with that one.
- 43:27SPEAKER_07: Yeah, the Islanders Corpus.
- 43:30SPEAKER_07: Um, you know what how many we'll kill them.
- 43:34SPEAKER_07: We'll kill them.
- 43:35SPEAKER_07: We're gonna kill them.
- 43:36SPEAKER_07: Will in them.
- 43:37SPEAKER_07: I I really hope we get a better offensive showing.
- 43:40SPEAKER_07: Uh, but again, I'm not gonna freak out too much.
- 43:42SPEAKER_07: This is the second game of the season with a brand new channel.
- 43:44SPEAKER_07: I want to see you overreact, dude.
- 43:45SPEAKER_07: No, I'm not gonna do that.
- 43:47SPEAKER_07: I'm not gonna do it, not until we play Villanova.
- 43:49SPEAKER_07: Um Lady Raiders, three and oh, most recently beating Lamar, another powerhouse uh on the basketball floor.
- 43:57SPEAKER_07: Uh, Krista Gurley got that thing going.
- 44:00SPEAKER_05: Dude, absolutely, man.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: And she's all got that that that fit going as well, man.
- 44:04SPEAKER_05: Dripping at all times.
- 44:06SPEAKER_05: At all times.
- 44:07SPEAKER_07: Bailey Maupin has been really fun to watch.
- 44:09SPEAKER_07: Jazz Shavers has been really fun to watch.
- 44:12SPEAKER_07: Uh we have a good team.
- 44:13SPEAKER_07: We have a good team.
- 44:13SPEAKER_07: Obviously, dealing with some injuries, trying to navigate that, but um we shall see.
- 44:18SPEAKER_07: She got that thing going.
- 44:19SPEAKER_07: She got that thing going.
- 44:21SPEAKER_07: Soccer.
- 44:22SPEAKER_07: NCAA got to be.
- 44:25SPEAKER_07: Tom Stone got that thing going.
- 44:27SPEAKER_07: We um we beat Florida Gulf Coast in round one of the NCAA tournament, one to nothing.
- 44:33SPEAKER_07: Scored the goal in the second half.
- 44:37SPEAKER_07: Soccer got it done.
- 44:38SPEAKER_07: We play Princeton.
- 44:40SPEAKER_07: Speaking of nerds.
- 44:41SPEAKER_07: Nerds.
- 44:42SPEAKER_07: We play Princeton next on Friday.
- 44:44SPEAKER_07: Uh and then if we win, we will play I'm not sure.
- 44:49SPEAKER_07: But it'll be this.
- 44:50SPEAKER_07: I think North Carolina and Alabama, I think, is on on the um the winner of that game.
- 44:55SPEAKER_07: We'll play the winner of our game.
- 44:56SPEAKER_05: So Steven, since you're the Ivy League expert and Penn is the the dipshit school, where's Princeton in the hierarchy?
- 45:04SPEAKER_07: Princeton's mid on the hierarchy.
- 45:07SPEAKER_07: Um I mean you gotta put like Harvard and Yale up top, and then I guess you could put Princeton at three.
- 45:14SPEAKER_07: Um that's not mid.
- 45:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:17SPEAKER_07: I guess they're like they're like upper tier.
- 45:20SPEAKER_07: They they're bronze.
- 45:21SPEAKER_07: They're bronze.
- 45:22SPEAKER_07: Uh they got a medal.
- 45:23SPEAKER_07: Um, but what uh well, okay.
- 45:26SPEAKER_07: Is Penn the worst or is Dartmouth the worst?
- 45:28SPEAKER_07: I thought it's Cornell.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: I thought Cornell is the worst.
- 45:31SPEAKER_05: I thought that's the always shit on the worst one.
- 45:34SPEAKER_07: Okay, all three of them are bottom tier.
- 45:36SPEAKER_07: Brown.
- 45:37SPEAKER_07: What is the what are the other ones?
- 45:39SPEAKER_05: Uh uh Columbia.
- 45:42SPEAKER_07: Columbia, no one really thinks of Columbia.
- 45:44SPEAKER_07: They don't like participate in sports, I don't think.
- 45:47SPEAKER_07: I don't know.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: They're all Ivy League, so they have to.
- 45:49SPEAKER_05: It's the it's the conference.
- 45:51SPEAKER_07: Bunch of nerds, bunch of freaking nerds.
- 45:54SPEAKER_07: We're gonna kick their butt.
- 45:55SPEAKER_05: We're gonna kick their ass.
- 45:56SPEAKER_05: We're gonna stuff them in a locker.
- 45:57SPEAKER_07: We're gonna stuff them in a locker.
- 45:59SPEAKER_07: You go, ladies, beat beat the stupid nerds, Princeton Tigers, stupid mascot.
- 46:05SPEAKER_04: Um Harvard on the Plains is gonna smoke your ass.
- 46:10SPEAKER_07: The whole Harvard of West Texas, Texas Tech is the far superior academic institution and athletic institutions.
- 46:19SPEAKER_04: Zero question.
- 46:20SPEAKER_07: Zero question.
- 46:22SPEAKER_04: You got anything else?
- 46:23SPEAKER_05: Nah, dude.
- 46:24SPEAKER_05: I think I think us shitting on these the most prestigious universities in the world by saying these are the dipshits, these arts is enough to end on.
- 46:35SPEAKER_07: Oh graduating four years, both of us.
- 46:38SPEAKER_07: We're killing it.
- 46:39SPEAKER_07: Hell yeah, we did.
- 46:41SPEAKER_06: Don't ask about the GPA, though.
- 46:43SPEAKER_06: Don't don't ask about the GPA.
- 46:46SPEAKER_04: Never ask, never ask a woman her weight, never ask us our GPA.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: Please.
- 46:51SPEAKER_04: C's get degrees, song of the week.
- 46:53SPEAKER_04: Go ahead.
- 46:54SPEAKER_05: All right, dude.
- 46:54SPEAKER_05: For my song of the week, I'm gonna go off the map here.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: Whoa.
- 46:58SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna go with a an indie country rocker here, um, with a song called American Gothic with a new guy I was recently introduced to by uh uh Thomas Mooney on his amazing playlist.
- 47:13SPEAKER_05: I always discover music on with uh uh his morning copy playlist, Stephen Wilson Jr., featuring Haley Withers.
- 47:20SPEAKER_05: And I really like her a lot.
- 47:22SPEAKER_05: Um, and she's obviously blowing up in Nashville right now in a good way.
- 47:25SPEAKER_05: Um, and it's that song is American Gothic.
- 47:29SPEAKER_05: Obviously, kind of a play on uh the the painting, the famous American Gothic painting about you know uh the classic small town American uh upbringing.
- 47:37SPEAKER_05: So I really dig it.
- 47:39SPEAKER_05: It's a fun, like indie rock country song, a different twist on the genre.
- 47:58SPEAKER_07: Look at you.
- 47:59SPEAKER_07: Look at you being cultured with your explanation of American Gothic.
- 48:04SPEAKER_07: Yeah, you did you not know?
- 48:05SPEAKER_07: Would you have not known that?
- 48:07SPEAKER_07: I did know.
- 48:07SPEAKER_07: I knew it was a painting, I didn't know what it really symbolized, but uh yeah, look at look at that.
- 48:13SPEAKER_07: American Gothic.
- 48:14SPEAKER_07: Very nice, very nice.
- 48:15SPEAKER_07: Um, always like to you know, give the the I don't want to say lower, but like the less well known.
- 48:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but the less well known, um, you know, a little bit of credit.
- 48:26SPEAKER_07: So uh what about you?
- 48:28SPEAKER_07: I am giving one of the bigger guys a credit here.
- 48:31SPEAKER_05: Is it Nelly?
- 48:32SPEAKER_05: Is it to bring us to the to Arlington?
- 48:34SPEAKER_05: Is it Nelly?
- 48:34SPEAKER_07: It's not it's not Nelly.
- 48:36SPEAKER_07: I'll do that next week.
- 48:37SPEAKER_07: Um, my song of the week, Chris Stapleton just released a new album.
- 48:42SPEAKER_07: Chris Stapleton is a top fiver for me.
- 48:44SPEAKER_07: Uh artist.
- 48:45SPEAKER_07: Uh, I just enjoy, I don't think there's a Chris Stapleton song that I don't enjoy.
- 48:49SPEAKER_07: Um, this new album uh called Higher is really nice, easy listening.
- 48:56SPEAKER_07: Uh, not super complicated, in-depth songs, but just like his vocals are nuts.
- 49:02SPEAKER_07: I mean, just in general, his vocals are nuts, but like on this album, he brings it in so many different ways.
- 49:08SPEAKER_07: Um, I'm not gonna do the title track, even though that's probably my favorite song on the album, uh, which is higher.
- 49:14SPEAKER_07: But I am going to do Think I'm in Love With You, Chris Stapleton.
- 49:18SPEAKER_07: Love the bass line on it.
- 49:19SPEAKER_07: It's very funky for him.
- 49:21SPEAKER_07: He's usually more of a rock, uh, and he's got a couple of those on this album, uh, very kind of rock country, but uh this one's more a little groovy and and uh funky.
- 49:30SPEAKER_07: I like it.
- 49:30SPEAKER_07: So uh think I'm in love with you, Chris Stapleton.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Every time I do a five, I want to make your dreams come true.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: I'm in love with you.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: I'm in love with you.
- 49:47SPEAKER_05: I feel like Chris likes sliding in that funk into every album, though.
- 49:50SPEAKER_05: I think he likes that.
- 49:52SPEAKER_05: I he likes that bluesy sound.
- 49:53SPEAKER_05: I mean, the blue you can't separate blues and country too much with how with uh how they're always uh married to each other.
- 49:59SPEAKER_05: Um I'm I'm excited to listen to this one.
- 50:01SPEAKER_05: I haven't listened to any of the songs on that album yet, so I'm I'm looking forward to it.
- 50:05SPEAKER_07: Higher, like he brings it, uh he goes he goes super high uh singing the actual song itself, but it's it's really fun.
- 50:14SPEAKER_07: Uh, I there's there might be one song that I'm not huge on, and it's South Dakota, but uh the rest of them I really enjoy.
- 50:22SPEAKER_07: So yeah, Chris Stableton, he's one of the best.
- 50:26SPEAKER_05: Excellent, man.
- 50:26SPEAKER_05: Not a Taylor Swift one.
- 50:27SPEAKER_07: So Logan, please Logan might be he might have shot us if we did another Taylor Swift song of the week.
- 50:34SPEAKER_05: So we have to every time it releases our wives like made it a tradition.
- 50:38SPEAKER_07: So it's true, it's true.
- 50:39SPEAKER_07: So uh all the Swifties out there, we're gonna keep doing it when uh she releases a new album ultimately you know, every couple months or so.
- 50:47SPEAKER_07: Um all right, you want to end her off here?
- 50:50SPEAKER_07: Nah, take it home.
