I spent part of today pulling a dependency out of easel, the terminal coding interface. Until today it leaned on a vendor CLI just to talk to a model , you'd shell out to someone else's binary and hope it was installed, hope it behaved, hope its output looked the way you expected. I rewired it so it can run inference on its own, no vendor CLI standing in the middle. It sounds like a small thing to say out loud, but it changes what easel actually is. It stops being a wrapper around somebody else's tool and starts being its own thing that just reaches out and talks to an API when it needs to…
