- 0:36Speaker 1: I would find incredibly disappointment. Oh yeah, I would be
- 0:40Speaker 1: very much against that. So let's say you're going to
- 0:41Speaker 1: write a strongly worded letter. Yeah, someone needs to be like,
- 0:44Speaker 1: take his helmet and be like get healthy, get I
- 0:47Speaker 1: take your shoelaces away exactly, so they can't just run
- 0:50Speaker 1: play action every play and then have it worked. No band,
- 0:52Speaker 1: white face mask. Someone said, red face masks on white
- 0:55Speaker 1: white space mask. Well, I thought you could choose. Thought
- 0:57Speaker 1: as a player, you got to choose what I remember. Um,
- 1:04Speaker 1: At times the page, some of the Patriots had red
- 1:06Speaker 1: face masks. Yes, old. I mean you can't have some
- 1:10Speaker 1: guys wearing one uniform and some guys wearing another one.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It has to be problem is our mascot is a human.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You know, and I get, and I get like those
- 1:18Speaker 1: guys in tricorn hats were probably tough mothers, you know.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They they survived Gettysburg and all that stuff, Like I
- 1:24Speaker 1: can't do that in the very large minority. It definitely
- 1:27Speaker 1: throws you off a little bit. In my mind, large minority,
- 1:30Speaker 1: this is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:37Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:41Speaker 1: and it's a victory weeky. Boy. That was much needed
- 1:45Speaker 1: and much earned. I think it was just an all
- 1:48Speaker 1: around great game for the Patriots. As we talked about
- 1:51Speaker 1: in the postgame show, lots of good lists. The bad
- 1:55Speaker 1: lists were just nitpicking on certain plays or whatever. But man,
- 1:59Speaker 1: it was just, you know, a complete effort by the
- 2:02Speaker 1: entire team shutting out the league's top point production team.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You know, that's an accomplishment. I don't care. I don't care.
- 2:10Speaker 1: That would be offense to everybody else listening. I don't
- 2:13Speaker 1: care if it's the Detroit Lions or the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You you shut out a team in the NFL, That's
- 2:19Speaker 1: that's an accomplishment. Huge for sure, And as you said,
- 2:24Speaker 1: not so eloquently the number one ranked offense in football. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 1: like no asterisk there. Yep. I don't know what they
- 2:31Speaker 1: got what they did to Jared Goff, but man, he
- 2:33Speaker 1: just looked compy by the second half of that game,
- 2:36Speaker 1: like he just wasn't seeing anything. I mean, and I
- 2:39Speaker 1: saw Evan tweet out something similar and I said, I
- 2:41Speaker 1: kind of agree with him watching the game again of that.
- 2:44Speaker 1: You know, whatever they do to Jared Goff, like it's
- 2:46Speaker 1: it's getting to him, it's working. Yeause he was missing.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I think he could have played a lot better. There
- 2:52Speaker 1: were there were plays to be made, but I don't
- 2:54Speaker 1: want to take away from the credit of the defense.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I mean, I think keep key moments. They came through
- 2:58Speaker 1: and that's a great sign, you know, that's a great time.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That was the point that I made too, Like it
- 3:01Speaker 1: was all the important plays in that game. The Patriots dominated, Yeah, dominated, Yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 1: which is nice to see. Yep. Situational, Yeah, it's good.
- 3:10Speaker 1: So here we are two and three. You know, back
- 3:15Speaker 1: in the hunt, sure only two games behind. The Bills
- 3:19Speaker 1: had to get right one and now it's like we
- 3:21Speaker 1: can't don't stop now, Yeah, I mean to get the
- 3:24Speaker 1: Browns as we see, the worst the Patriots can be
- 3:26Speaker 1: is fourteen. I mean they can be fourteen and three,
- 3:29Speaker 1: right right right, that's the ceiling. That's the ceiling. So
- 3:33Speaker 1: there's no way to get rid of any of those
- 3:34Speaker 1: three losses. That's a pretty good ceiling. Yeah, well, look,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I mean it's a pretty good ceiling. Of course, you're
- 3:40Speaker 1: in the middle act right now, and you have, like
- 3:42Speaker 1: last year, you have some teams that that you should beat.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And I think that game last weekend gave me confidence
- 3:47Speaker 1: of Okay, this is a similar kind of Patriots team.
- 3:50Speaker 1: They play a team that's off that day or not
- 3:52Speaker 1: quite as good, or you know, little undermanned, or you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: things don't quite unfold the way for that opponent that
- 3:58Speaker 1: they'd like them to. The Patriots are able to to
- 4:00Speaker 1: win those games kind of no matter who they're rolling
- 4:03Speaker 1: out there to some extent, and I ran my UM
- 4:06Speaker 1: twenty seven nothing game against Houston analogy, uh to somebody
- 4:11Speaker 1: in football, and they agreed this game reminded them a
- 4:14Speaker 1: lot of that game validation. I'm honored because when you
- 4:17Speaker 1: said that, yeah, I was so struck by it. Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And but they also followed up and said, I hope
- 4:23Speaker 1: it's it's not followed up the same way we did
- 4:26Speaker 1: after that game. I think they lost a lot of
- 4:27Speaker 1: bill bills. Yeah, sixteen and nothing. Right, So so they
- 4:32Speaker 1: post posted a shut out and then got shut and
- 4:35Speaker 1: then got shut out. Yeah yeah, And how much of
- 4:38Speaker 1: that was you know, oh, this is what you're doing? Yeah, okay,
- 4:42Speaker 1: of course it was. Well. Well, well, the good news here,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and I know we'll talk about Cleveland a lot tomorrow
- 4:46Speaker 1: and Thursday, but the good news here is this another
- 4:48Speaker 1: bad run defense. Yeah, Cleveland, but it's another good run offense.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And I there's something in those numbers that rust. Yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: there's something in those numbers that really kind of made
- 5:01Speaker 1: me go, m is it okay to bring it up now,
- 5:05Speaker 1: even though it's we haven't turned the page. Oh sure,
- 5:08Speaker 1: I mean yeah, I think yeah, I mean I think
- 5:10Speaker 1: we could talk about the future. So the Browns have
- 5:13Speaker 1: this great running attack with Jacobe Purcid as the quarterback.
- 5:19Speaker 1: To me, if I'm a defense, I'm daring them to throw.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That's what they do, right, and I'm loading up against
- 5:26Speaker 1: the run. Yet they're running like crazy. Yeah yeah, that's accurate. Yeah,
- 5:31Speaker 1: So like that that's a legit run defense. Then it's
- 5:35Speaker 1: not like the other way around where they're you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you know, that's why they're to be respected because I
- 5:41Speaker 1: think anytime you'd run the ball like that, um, you
- 5:45Speaker 1: have the ability to shorten the game, and that's what
- 5:48Speaker 1: the Browns want to do because they can't. They can't
- 5:51Speaker 1: get into a shootout. Now, they've been able to put
- 5:53Speaker 1: some points on the board in some of these games,
- 5:56Speaker 1: but the reason for that is they have a big
- 5:59Speaker 1: play a running game too. Yeah, Nick Chubb has been
- 6:04Speaker 1: Nick Chubb is like knocking on the door six hundred
- 6:07Speaker 1: yards in five through five games, seven touchdowns. So they
- 6:12Speaker 1: don't want to have Jacoby Brissette throwing the ball forty times,
- 6:16Speaker 1: you know that. They want to run the ball and
- 6:18Speaker 1: they want to try to show itten the game that way. Now,
- 6:21Speaker 1: in general terms, that keeps the score down, which could
- 6:23Speaker 1: work out in the Patriots favor because especially if Bailey
- 6:26Speaker 1: Zappy has to play again, you don't want to get
- 6:29Speaker 1: new shoot out that way either. So it'd be a
- 6:31Speaker 1: very similar styles I think in this game. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 1: keep it. I mean I think they're doing with Jacoby Brissette,
- 6:36Speaker 1: which most teams want to do with their backup quarterback.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And I mean he's not killing them. I think he's
- 6:41Speaker 1: a five touchdowns, three interceptions, so you know, he's just
- 6:44Speaker 1: kind of holding the fort. He's made a few throws
- 6:46Speaker 1: to Marii, Cooper and Najoku and you know, so he
- 6:49Speaker 1: does have some guys to throw, so it'll be a
- 6:51Speaker 1: good test for your guys, your front seven there. Absolutely,
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'd love to get Lawrence guy back this week and
- 6:57Speaker 1: have everybody for the run stoppers. But yeah, it's you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: last year they saw the Browns Paul somehow remember who
- 7:03Speaker 1: the third stream running back was. Yesterday we were taping
- 7:06Speaker 1: the TV show. I was like, you know, who's second?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Tired of getting made fun of a good memory? I
- 7:11Speaker 1: can't even give them a compliment without him getting at
- 7:13Speaker 1: Tannest Johnson's Ernis Johnson. Um, you know so uh, but
- 7:17Speaker 1: you know, you go back a few years. You remember Chubb.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Chubb was here and I mean had had like a
- 7:21Speaker 1: huge gain and then like coughed it up inside the ten.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So I just I like these challenges when it's a
- 7:27Speaker 1: really good element of a team that you you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: maybe as someone I don't want to say it's a weakness,
- 7:31Speaker 1: but it's something that's been a problem or been inconsistent
- 7:34Speaker 1: a little bit for the Patriots recently. Um, I think
- 7:37Speaker 1: it's it's a good matchup. But let's go. Let's win.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Let's get three and three. You gotta win these games now.
- 7:42Speaker 1: You gotta set the table for after the buy when
- 7:44Speaker 1: it gets tough and the good teams, and that's when
- 7:46Speaker 1: I want to play our best football. That's what you're
- 7:48Speaker 1: looking for. So turning back to the game, to the
- 7:52Speaker 1: big win twenty nine nothing. I hear a lot of
- 7:55Speaker 1: Mia Copez this week from people, particularly when it comes
- 7:59Speaker 1: to talking about the coaching a lot. Tommy Kern this morning.
- 8:04Speaker 1: It's funny. I'm just reading Albert Brierre saying the offensive
- 8:07Speaker 1: staff can take a bow. Yeah, A lot of people,
- 8:10Speaker 1: particularly you know Belichick, Judge and Patricia. Uh, maybe they're
- 8:14Speaker 1: not such bad coaches after all. Belichick is maybe not
- 8:18Speaker 1: such a bad coach. I didn't he hear anybody say
- 8:20Speaker 1: that he was. But that's okay, Or maybe he'll go
- 8:22Speaker 1: with the falls. Maybe he kind of knew what he
- 8:23Speaker 1: was doing. Belichick and that Judge of Patricia aren't so
- 8:28Speaker 1: bad after all. I don't know about that, but be
- 8:30Speaker 1: but Belichick, I'm gonna be all in on that one belly.
- 8:34Speaker 1: He's good. This guy, he knows a little something. I'll
- 8:36Speaker 1: putting together a winning program now. I I haven't been
- 8:40Speaker 1: that upset with these guys. Like I've given them a
- 8:42Speaker 1: little bit of freedom, but I'm not ready to roll
- 8:44Speaker 1: up the parade for them right now, because they as
- 8:46Speaker 1: coaching staff understand how to manage a backup quarterback. And
- 8:49Speaker 1: you have Ramander Stevenson who went off so like, I
- 8:52Speaker 1: don't want to make it sound like, oh they stink.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I've given them some leeway, but I don't think what
- 8:57Speaker 1: they've done in the last two weeks with a back
- 8:58Speaker 1: or quarterback is anything more than a really smart coaching
- 9:02Speaker 1: staff managing a rookie quarterback and leaning into their run game.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I mean, it just seems common sense to me. They
- 9:07Speaker 1: have a lot more, you know, for them to really
- 9:09Speaker 1: like vindication, like go light up a good defense, like
- 9:13Speaker 1: that'll that'll get me. You want to score twenty nine
- 9:15Speaker 1: on the war worst defensive or lights somebody out? Yeah,
- 9:17Speaker 1: anybody don't get one touchdown? Yeah? Like lights someone up. Yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I was I was surprised. I wasn't surprised. Matt Matt Mattie.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I mean, like Tom's hilarious. I mean the way he
- 9:25Speaker 1: relaid out the question. You know, I didn't I miss that.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Oh we like prefaced it, like you don't want to
- 9:32Speaker 1: go back to the summer when we were all losing
- 9:34Speaker 1: our minds about oh, the Patriots are given a play
- 9:36Speaker 1: calling job to a defensive guy and this will never
- 9:39Speaker 1: work in Max debt, Like if you went into that
- 9:41Speaker 1: whole preamble, you know, do you feel vindicated? Like what
- 9:45Speaker 1: like writing now? What was the response? Three? Are you know? Maddie?
- 9:48Speaker 1: He was like, ah, you know, I just I come
- 9:50Speaker 1: in every day. But he asked, someone asked him if
- 9:53Speaker 1: he felt like you would improved as a play card.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I would hope I would improve, you know, sure, I
- 9:58Speaker 1: mean I get all that. What I mean like, I'm like,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you know, I could just picture Maddi peean Like you know, guys,
- 10:03Speaker 1: I mean, it was a good win and I'm happy,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but like we got a long way to go. And
- 10:08Speaker 1: even that's like a cliche, but like I'm right with
- 10:10Speaker 1: you on that point, Like you got a long way
- 10:12Speaker 1: to go before I think Mac Jones gets back in here,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and you've got an offense that can really drill down
- 10:17Speaker 1: on some of these best defenses. So sorry, I just
- 10:20Speaker 1: I got a little triggered there. Yeah. No, And I
- 10:22Speaker 1: know what you're saying, and I get it, But I
- 10:24Speaker 1: would also say, listen, having to work with Bailey Zappy,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they deserve any positive press that they get. They're you know,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Matt Patricia and Joe Judge deserve dealing with a third
- 10:37Speaker 1: string rookie, fourth round pick. But at the same time,
- 10:41Speaker 1: I think what we're seeing is what a lot of
- 10:42Speaker 1: people kind of hoped to see based on what was left.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And I think Bill Belichick has had a heavy heavy
- 10:48Speaker 1: hand in the offense. I think the best drives that
- 10:51Speaker 1: they've had have been first drives of the game in half,
- 10:55Speaker 1: which to me are a strong indication of preparation. Right yea.
- 10:59Speaker 1: And to Mike's point on Sunday, I give Bailey Zappy
- 11:04Speaker 1: a ton of credit. He went out there and executed
- 11:08Speaker 1: I don't want to say perfectly, but he executed at
- 11:10Speaker 1: a very high level what they asked him to do,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and what they asked him to do is turn around
- 11:14Speaker 1: and hand the ball off to number thirty eight as
- 11:16Speaker 1: many times as they possibly could, and the guy racked
- 11:19Speaker 1: up one hundred and sixty plush yards, right, yea, was
- 11:23Speaker 1: that something that was like unexpected? Well, like, did you
- 11:28Speaker 1: not expect them to go heavy with the run because
- 11:30Speaker 1: I think they're heavy run with Mac Jones against the
- 11:33Speaker 1: worst run defense, and yeah, you know, and again I'm not,
- 11:36Speaker 1: I'm not even that's a huge part of it. But
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't care if you're playing again, whoever you were playing, like,
- 11:44Speaker 1: you're not going to go out and say, hey, Zappy,
- 11:47Speaker 1: just go out there and throw at fifty five times
- 11:50Speaker 1: like we went with Tom Brady, Like this is one
- 11:52Speaker 1: of those defenses. We feel like we can just throw
- 11:54Speaker 1: it all over. They there's no way they were going
- 11:56Speaker 1: to do that. They're gonna run the ball more often
- 11:59Speaker 1: than not. They're gonna try as hard as they can
- 12:02Speaker 1: to avoid third and long because when it is third
- 12:05Speaker 1: and long, we ain't going to convert it, which they
- 12:07Speaker 1: were three for nine on third down in the game.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And when we're in the red zone, we're not really
- 12:12Speaker 1: gonna risk it. We're gonna take the points every time
- 12:14Speaker 1: we get down here. We're not going to throw it
- 12:16Speaker 1: into the into the end zone. We're not going to
- 12:18Speaker 1: take a lot. I think what they did so made
- 12:20Speaker 1: a lot of sore saying that last year when the
- 12:23Speaker 1: Patriots were the number one seed for you know, a
- 12:26Speaker 1: minute cup of coffee. Yeah, we shouldn't get excited like
- 12:29Speaker 1: we did last year. Oh we did. I'm not Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: like I I'm not taking the excitement away from the wind.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Like that's not what I meant. I just meant, like
- 12:39Speaker 1: this one very small aspect, Like to me, you want
- 12:42Speaker 1: to talk about the defense at great length, like come
- 12:45Speaker 1: like that's to me the other side of it, like
- 12:48Speaker 1: Mike and I are saying, like, you know, light up,
- 12:50Speaker 1: light up a good dude, that's the defense playing well
- 12:53Speaker 1: against a good offense. Yeah, that was my That hasn't
- 12:56Speaker 1: happened very well. That was my Miakulpa. I mean I
- 12:59Speaker 1: going into the season and I thought they had the
- 13:01Speaker 1: pieces to be a good offense. I was worried more
- 13:04Speaker 1: worried about the defense, and I think, you know, uh,
- 13:08Speaker 1: the defense is answered. I mean Sunday they did they listen.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I know they have sixty five points the previous two game.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I know, but if you if you really look at
- 13:17Speaker 1: that Green Bay, I think they did a really good job. Well.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I mean you can say that and just ignore the
- 13:22Speaker 1: amount of times the other team scored. Yeah, you could
- 13:24Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, I think they did a good job
- 13:26Speaker 1: against uh Rogers. Um. They greatly, you know, they greatly
- 13:31Speaker 1: exceeded their average and and I think they're getting better
- 13:35Speaker 1: every week. They were outstanding. And I think I think
- 13:38Speaker 1: Belichick and you know, Steve Belichick and Mayo, I think
- 13:42Speaker 1: they're figuring out who they've got, you know, who's you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: especially in that middle level there with the linebackers. They're
- 13:49Speaker 1: trying to figure that out. But you know, they're also
- 13:51Speaker 1: figuring out who who's Jack Jones and you know, how
- 13:55Speaker 1: does he fit in with Jonathan Jones and Mills and
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know that was that's been a work in progress.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And I think that they're you know, now now we're
- 14:03Speaker 1: into week six. You know, I think they're figuring out
- 14:06Speaker 1: who these guys are and what they're good at. And
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think, you know, I see improvement every week. Yeah,
- 14:13Speaker 1: I gotta know. It's something I was thinking about it.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I'm not sure which way Paul's gonna go on this
- 14:16Speaker 1: one because I can feel both sides of it. So
- 14:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna lay it out there. I'll let you I
- 14:20Speaker 1: don't have one single thing to even possibly make up
- 14:23Speaker 1: negative about the defense. On Sunday and I have nothing.
- 14:26Speaker 1: This is Jack Jones thing and and I'm not gonna
- 14:29Speaker 1: I don't mean it the way I'm gonna say it,
- 14:30Speaker 1: but like, you know, you let Jase Jackson walk and
- 14:32Speaker 1: I got Jack Jones, who's picking off all those interceptions
- 14:34Speaker 1: now right? Like I mean, it's just and Jack jac
- 14:36Speaker 1: Jackson ain't playing, you know, I like I get the point.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Paul's like, oh he's a good player. He managed to
- 14:41Speaker 1: do it. I don't know how. I don't know how
- 14:43Speaker 1: he did it, but he did it. But but no,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I mean, but what but what but what I really
- 14:47Speaker 1: mean conviction? I know, I know well, but you know,
- 14:49Speaker 1: the funny thing is we always kind of would laugh
- 14:51Speaker 1: about jac Jackson of like I mean, have you seen him?
- 14:53Speaker 1: Like he just they just kind of center field like
- 14:55Speaker 1: a lot of the ones he gets well, like the
- 14:57Speaker 1: it's what you're good anticipation. Yeah, but like, man, the
- 15:01Speaker 1: Sunday picked by Jack Jones was better than I would
- 15:04Speaker 1: say ninety eight percent of j C. Jack serious, Oh yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 1: he's that wasn't the guy he was covering. He left
- 15:10Speaker 1: his man recognized what was going on and he went over.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And I also give Gilani Tavaio a guy who we've
- 15:15Speaker 1: been pretty critical of here on this show a ton
- 15:18Speaker 1: of credit for having excellent coverage against a good tight end.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He was in position to at least make that a
- 15:24Speaker 1: difficult play. But Jack Jones, that pick, that wasn't it
- 15:27Speaker 1: like they just threw it to him. Pick the out
- 15:29Speaker 1: past the week before was a kind of just threw
- 15:31Speaker 1: it to him pick right. But but that's like, listen,
- 15:34Speaker 1: if this is what Jack Jones is, if he's going
- 15:36Speaker 1: to give up plays and make plays like like Trayvon Diggs,
- 15:41Speaker 1: because that's what he's kind of shaping up to be
- 15:43Speaker 1: so far. He gave up a couple of third and
- 15:45Speaker 1: longs the other day. But this pick, it's funny right
- 15:47Speaker 1: on Q on NFL Network, it is. That's not just like,
- 15:50Speaker 1: oh yeah, they threw one up to him and he
- 15:52Speaker 1: fair caught it. That was a great path. Yeah, and
- 15:54Speaker 1: by jacking his feet, keeping his feet and Bounds said
- 15:57Speaker 1: he was like a receiver yeh on that play. And
- 15:59Speaker 1: I'm glad all brought up to Bay and I'm actually
- 16:01Speaker 1: off of coaches and what Bill said. I wanted to
- 16:03Speaker 1: write up on him a little bit, but a little
- 16:05Speaker 1: bit of a deep dive just I mean, last year
- 16:07Speaker 1: they got him, you know, they signed him after he
- 16:08Speaker 1: got cut. He was on the practice squad for like
- 16:10Speaker 1: a week they brought him. He was a special teamer
- 16:11Speaker 1: last year. I don't think anybody really considered him part
- 16:14Speaker 1: of that linebacker you know, turnover. We're all like, oh,
- 16:17Speaker 1: Mac Wilson, Ray qual McMillan, why didn't they draft devn Lloyd?
- 16:20Speaker 1: But I thought he looked really good, and I mean
- 16:22Speaker 1: I think everybody's kind of realizing it now. He was
- 16:25Speaker 1: that versatile guy in college, you know, And it was
- 16:29Speaker 1: the same kind of thing reading back some of the
- 16:30Speaker 1: Detroit scouting reports of like this is a Matt Patricia guy.
- 16:34Speaker 1: This is there are only a couple of deep guys
- 16:36Speaker 1: like this that can play inside, they can play outside.
- 16:39Speaker 1: He wasn't so much you know, a guy like say
- 16:41Speaker 1: High Tower Jennings that were primarily one side in college.
- 16:45Speaker 1: He's always kind of been doing this. I mean even
- 16:47Speaker 1: had some punts in college, which I didn't realize. Might
- 16:50Speaker 1: have to talk to him in the locker room. But
- 16:51Speaker 1: I thought he was just surprisingly active that dropped that
- 16:56Speaker 1: Paul mentioned, I mean just recognized it and dropped back
- 16:59Speaker 1: into the zone. So I just it's one of those
- 17:01Speaker 1: unexpected things that I love about just following the team
- 17:04Speaker 1: good or bad. Usually, you know, I love the good
- 17:06Speaker 1: side of it when somebody like this, you're not really
- 17:07Speaker 1: expecting guy who's been gotten a lot of criticism too
- 17:10Speaker 1: of I mean, Evan target hates them. I mean, I
- 17:12Speaker 1: don't know if he's coming around on him yet. I
- 17:14Speaker 1: doubt it. Are you saying Evan stubborn well? And which
- 17:20Speaker 1: that says a lot coming from me, I'm the king
- 17:23Speaker 1: of stubborn. But I like just defensively, Like there's a
- 17:27Speaker 1: lot of times when I argue with Fred after a
- 17:30Speaker 1: game that, you know, like the Miami game for example,
- 17:33Speaker 1: like I don't think the defense played anywhere near as
- 17:35Speaker 1: well as thirteen points would indicate. They absolutely played as
- 17:40Speaker 1: well as zero indicates on Sunday, Like that wasn't the
- 17:43Speaker 1: other team like stumbling over itself and getting holding calls
- 17:48Speaker 1: and moving out of a missing a field goal or
- 17:50Speaker 1: dropping a touchdown. There was none of that. Every play
- 17:53Speaker 1: that had to be made in that game, the Patriots
- 17:55Speaker 1: defense made it like there was no like fluky name
- 18:00Speaker 1: each year to the shot. Now, listen, could they have
- 18:01Speaker 1: kicked some field goals? Yeah? They could have if it's
- 18:05Speaker 1: not nineteen to nothing in the second half. Dan Campbell's
- 18:08Speaker 1: not going for all those fourth thounds, he's kicking field goals.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But the reason why he was in that situation is
- 18:15Speaker 1: because the Patriots had blanked them in the first half
- 18:18Speaker 1: to allow the game to get out of hand. While
- 18:20Speaker 1: the Patriots were just kicking field goals. They kick five
- 18:22Speaker 1: field goals, and they were able to win the game
- 18:24Speaker 1: going away because the defense allowed nothing. And again, there's
- 18:29Speaker 1: a lot of times when the defense allowed nothing and
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's kind of deceiving. This wasn't one of them. This
- 18:33Speaker 1: was a shutout that was very much earned by team
- 18:37Speaker 1: defense throughout the game. Yeah, and it's still I still
- 18:40Speaker 1: live in a place of the last few years, it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: always started out great on defense, and I've gotten so
- 18:44Speaker 1: excited and then it's kind of fallen apart. And so
- 18:48Speaker 1: I think I'm a little bit hesitant to like get
- 18:50Speaker 1: fully on board of the of the hype train on them,
- 18:53Speaker 1: which you know, look, it's an early season, let let
- 18:55Speaker 1: them earn it. But so at the same time, those
- 18:56Speaker 1: stops in those key moments, that's what I'm like, are
- 18:59Speaker 1: those of a defense that's locked in in the big
- 19:02Speaker 1: moments like because that's a playoff kind of defense. Like
- 19:04Speaker 1: even if it's not stacked with talent, it's it's when
- 19:07Speaker 1: the plays count, these guys make them. I don't know,
- 19:10Speaker 1: I'm just I'm like I want to I want to
- 19:12Speaker 1: get hyped. It's like Mike and I were talking when
- 19:14Speaker 1: we were walking to the show Freddie and it's just like,
- 19:16Speaker 1: you know, like, what's what's the big thing this week?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Like you know, obviously the bogus rough and the passer
- 19:20Speaker 1: calls or you know, getting a lot of attention. Um,
- 19:23Speaker 1: But it's like my Mike's like, I don't want to
- 19:27Speaker 1: get too excited because I've been down this road. Can't
- 19:30Speaker 1: you just accept like the defense for what they did Sunday?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Does it have to be a referendum on what you
- 19:35Speaker 1: think that they you know, see I told you they
- 19:37Speaker 1: were this, or yeah it was one game, We'll see
- 19:40Speaker 1: what happens the next game. Why does like those two
- 19:42Speaker 1: factions have to argue with each other. Why can't you
- 19:44Speaker 1: just say, wow, that was really impressive team shoutout on
- 19:48Speaker 1: I think people are trying to figure out who are we? No, No,
- 19:50Speaker 1: But I'm just saying, like, defensively, you don't have to decide,
- 19:54Speaker 1: like that's they have a championship defense. You showed it
- 19:57Speaker 1: on on Sunday. They played champion hip caliber defense. That
- 20:01Speaker 1: was outstanding defense on Sunday. I don't know what it's
- 20:03Speaker 1: going to be like the next eleven weeks, but I
- 20:05Speaker 1: know on Sunday they were dominant, and I you know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: I think that they're playing just sound, disciplined defense. But
- 20:13Speaker 1: the guy that's you know, playing Pro Bowl level is
- 20:15Speaker 1: Judeon And you know, we were they were worried about
- 20:19Speaker 1: him at the end of last year, like who is
- 20:21Speaker 1: he was? He first half, jude On, second half Judeon. Um,
- 20:24Speaker 1: he still might be, but certainly you know he's doing
- 20:30Speaker 1: it um, you know. And it's not just sacks, it's
- 20:34Speaker 1: it's all over the field. Um. So you know that's
- 20:37Speaker 1: great and he's doing well and why is his doing well?
- 20:41Speaker 1: And you know, I was reading Evan this morning and
- 20:44Speaker 1: he had a really detailed breakdown of the game, as
- 20:46Speaker 1: he always does, and really interesting by the way, if
- 20:49Speaker 1: you know, you want to see the differences between the
- 20:52Speaker 1: offense with Zappi versus mac Um. But he was also
- 20:56Speaker 1: talking about the defense, and you know, he was looking
- 20:59Speaker 1: at Barma or a lot, and I was, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 1: I've been sort of like disappointed a little bit from Barmore,
- 21:04Speaker 1: but you know, he's doing the kind of things according
- 21:07Speaker 1: to Evan anyway that is helping Jude On and whys
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know, have the type of production they're getting so great,
- 21:14Speaker 1: you know, and I you know, and it's probably because
- 21:16Speaker 1: guys hurt, but Barmore is getting a lot more first
- 21:19Speaker 1: and second down snaps, which is good. That can only
- 21:21Speaker 1: help him. Um, you know, so all around, like you're
- 21:25Speaker 1: seeing improvement at all levels. And and when it comes
- 21:29Speaker 1: to people like Jack Jones, it's not necessarily improvement. You're
- 21:32Speaker 1: just seeing guys, you know, a guy as a rookie
- 21:36Speaker 1: do things that you weren't I wasn't expecting, yeah, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: I know, and then clearly they they you know, it's
- 21:42Speaker 1: funny how these players pop like from training camp, like
- 21:45Speaker 1: Jack Jones getting out there a little bit, you know,
- 21:47Speaker 1: like you just it seems like the guys that are
- 21:49Speaker 1: good you right right away. Like it's not a lot
- 21:54Speaker 1: of guys that you're six jump like Pa you know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: like I mean came out of for sixteen for six years,
- 22:03Speaker 1: and you know, give him a second contract because that's
- 22:05Speaker 1: when it all started. A little quiet after. Yeah, he
- 22:07Speaker 1: quieted down after he stopped facing that fourth string tackle
- 22:10Speaker 1: from Baltimore. It's been a little bit of the slower go. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 1: it's funny that was even just like watching him straight up,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I'm like, he looks good, Like he just looked like
- 22:18Speaker 1: the defense. I agree the one way that you described it, Freddy,
- 22:22Speaker 1: like they're playing good, disciplined football. I would agree with that.
- 22:24Speaker 1: They haven't have a lot of like egregious breakdowns. Yeah,
- 22:28Speaker 1: defensively since that first game with Carl Davis when he jumped.
- 22:31Speaker 1: But no, but that's like that's a mental mistake. I'm
- 22:34Speaker 1: talking about like a blown coverage. You know, they run
- 22:38Speaker 1: you know, they run a quick you know, a quick
- 22:40Speaker 1: cutback and it's like no one there. The pursued angle
- 22:42Speaker 1: was gone. They haven't had a lot of egregious They've
- 22:45Speaker 1: had some. I'm not listen. I said it earlier. They
- 22:48Speaker 1: they get thirty seven and twenty seven in consecutive games.
- 22:51Speaker 1: They weren't great in defense those two games. They were
- 22:54Speaker 1: really good in the first half of the Green Bay game,
- 22:57Speaker 1: but they weren't good in the second half or overtime,
- 22:59Speaker 1: and they weren't really good at all in the Baltimore game,
- 23:02Speaker 1: but this game dominant. Yeah, and then against a good
- 23:06Speaker 1: offense too. It's not an offense that was playing with
- 23:09Speaker 1: a hand tied behind his back. And you know it's
- 23:11Speaker 1: like even on offense. Like so Agalore has a bad game.
- 23:15Speaker 1: But Myers comes in and immediately has one hundred and
- 23:18Speaker 1: eleven yards. You know, Thornton comes in and doesn't drop
- 23:22Speaker 1: a pass thrown to him. You know, like it wasn't alright,
- 23:25Speaker 1: it wasn't. It wasn't a you know, two catches for
- 23:28Speaker 1: seven yards, but he looked good and didn't get open
- 23:32Speaker 1: really in the game. Oh no, I at that, I did.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I firmly disagree the bomb they threw down the sideline,
- 23:37Speaker 1: the defender ran the route for him. That's fine that
- 23:40Speaker 1: there were two other plays, specific plays where Zappi could
- 23:45Speaker 1: have had him for a home run and he went
- 23:48Speaker 1: for the shorter pass. Now one of the shorter passes
- 23:51Speaker 1: was I think twenty three yards to Meyers. So like,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'm not complaining, but Thornton had the deep route and
- 23:56Speaker 1: he was immediately open and we were watching off the
- 23:59Speaker 1: line and that didn't happen often. No, he was I'm
- 24:02Speaker 1: not telling you you're wrong. I'm just saying we watched
- 24:04Speaker 1: him coming off the line a lot and he was
- 24:06Speaker 1: having a really hard time. Well, he was open on
- 24:08Speaker 1: two home runs that zappy you know, chose to go
- 24:11Speaker 1: other ways, which listen is fine. He you know, he
- 24:14Speaker 1: was playing it cautiously. That's great, but he'll Thornton's gonna
- 24:19Speaker 1: be okay. It's a good start. I mean, I you know,
- 24:21Speaker 1: I don't know if he got open or but you
- 24:22Speaker 1: know what I mean. But just to get him out
- 24:24Speaker 1: there and get him back already week five, Yeah, after
- 24:27Speaker 1: what you thought he might have been end of October.
- 24:29Speaker 1: I mean they said six weeks, six day, eight weeks.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I know it was six weeks. I'm like, why, Like,
- 24:34Speaker 1: I'm not even sure he actually broke his collar. Oh,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I think he did well. Then why is he back already?
- 24:39Speaker 1: Because they said six day, eight weeks. That's all it takes.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I did it twice, But how's all it takes? Six
- 24:45Speaker 1: it's been six Oh you know, as a as a pro,
- 24:49Speaker 1: when they say six to eight weeks, I'm going to
- 24:50Speaker 1: go to the shorter side for a professional athlete. I
- 24:54Speaker 1: don't know, I don't I'm not sure you know, maybe
- 24:57Speaker 1: maybe he's back like a game. Like. I didn't know
- 24:59Speaker 1: if they would activate them right away. I thought they
- 25:01Speaker 1: might make him practice for a week. They activated him
- 25:05Speaker 1: right away. Yeah, that's great. That means they're high on him.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I agree with Mike. I think that means that they
- 25:09Speaker 1: have plans for So here's here's here's why I'm I'm
- 25:13Speaker 1: a little bit excited about this offense because I do
- 25:17Speaker 1: think Mac is the much better quarterback. And when he
- 25:20Speaker 1: comes back, I think he's coming back to a better
- 25:24Speaker 1: offense that he left, believe it or not, because of
- 25:26Speaker 1: the adversity that they've had to play through here in
- 25:29Speaker 1: the offensive line and all that. I think he's going
- 25:32Speaker 1: to come back to a better surrounding cast than he left.
- 25:36Speaker 1: And I think it's gonna be good. I think Max's
- 25:41Speaker 1: gonna feast. I've been Max gonna eat let Mackie. I've
- 25:44Speaker 1: been thinking a lot about this exactly. No, I have
- 25:46Speaker 1: no idea, and I'm asking myself, like I want that
- 25:49Speaker 1: to be true, because I wanted the team is playing
- 25:51Speaker 1: well and and but and maybe like past protection wise,
- 25:55Speaker 1: like it's getting a little bit sync and everything. Take
- 26:00Speaker 1: one guy. This is why I don't know Stevenson talk
- 26:03Speaker 1: about improvement. He's improved in pass protection. You know, I
- 26:07Speaker 1: think he has been. I think he's the I think
- 26:10Speaker 1: he's the best player with the team. But that's just me. Um,
- 26:13Speaker 1: But he like but that type of thing that's gonna
- 26:16Speaker 1: help Max. Yeh. But but if you if you go
- 26:18Speaker 1: like like pass protection. Okay, they threw the ball twenty times,
- 26:23Speaker 1: the ball was out of his hands in an instant,
- 26:25Speaker 1: every single one of those passes, and they didn't get
- 26:28Speaker 1: any yards, Like you know, this was one hundred and
- 26:30Speaker 1: eighty eight yards in the game. I don't think they're
- 26:32Speaker 1: gonna do that with mac Jones. Yeah. Now, if they
- 26:35Speaker 1: do that, I don't expect mac Jones will be dealing
- 26:38Speaker 1: with a lot of pressure either. I think that the
- 26:40Speaker 1: way that they set that game up now plus Detroit
- 26:42Speaker 1: doesn't get after the passer at all. Um, I don't think.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I don't think pressure has been I don't think pressure
- 26:51Speaker 1: will be a huge part of the problem if they
- 26:52Speaker 1: have a similar kind of game plan then they did
- 26:54Speaker 1: on Sunday. Yeah, right, Well, and then they get into
- 26:57Speaker 1: thirdin lungs and you know those kind of situations. Yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 1: when having to play with sure happens when you fall
- 27:02Speaker 1: behind by two schools in the second half and you're
- 27:04Speaker 1: throwing the ball on every play. Having that's when Mac
- 27:06Speaker 1: Jones was making his mistakes. Having to play with ZAPPI
- 27:08Speaker 1: was sort of like dealing with the pandemic. You know,
- 27:11Speaker 1: you you adapted and even though you know you couldn't
- 27:15Speaker 1: do everything you wanted during the COVID, there were some
- 27:17Speaker 1: things that came out of the COVID that, oh, this
- 27:20Speaker 1: is pretty good. Yeah, you know, and I think that's
- 27:23Speaker 1: what's happening here, Like you're realizing that we can do
- 27:26Speaker 1: certain things when we have to, and that's only going
- 27:30Speaker 1: to help Mac in the offense overall. Yeah, the past
- 27:33Speaker 1: protections like zoom meetings, I think that's like, but he's right,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I mean a lot more convenient. There's a lot of
- 27:41Speaker 1: things that we changed the way we did and we realized, um,
- 27:44Speaker 1: that's kind of a better way to do it, right.
- 27:46Speaker 1: I don't need to hug everybody, I see, right, you know,
- 27:48Speaker 1: we don't need to bring everybody into the locker room
- 27:50Speaker 1: Monday afternoon to talk to Matthew Slater and then become
- 27:53Speaker 1: a bit of a hugger. Yeah. But yeah, I mean,
- 27:56Speaker 1: like the zoom meetings and stuff like that. When you
- 27:59Speaker 1: are not all together. We don't have to come into
- 28:02Speaker 1: the office just to have a meeting, right, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 1: we can regroup. I would we always air on meeting
- 28:08Speaker 1: in person if you could, if if everybody is here,
- 28:10Speaker 1: but especially if there's going to be cupcakes, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: it's like cupcakes today. It's like, you know, I'd rather
- 28:16Speaker 1: have a balance. But if we have to run all
- 28:18Speaker 1: the time, okay, and especially when another team knows you
- 28:22Speaker 1: have to run all the timing, you still do it anyway.
- 28:25Speaker 1: And I like it's that's why I think the Browns
- 28:27Speaker 1: are legit, because people know they've got to run, and
- 28:30Speaker 1: yet they they're averaging one hundred and ninety yards a game.
- 28:34Speaker 1: They're the top ranked rushing off and it's not like
- 28:38Speaker 1: it's also not an asterisk where like Lamar Jackson, right,
- 28:42Speaker 1: you know, right, yeah, can't run, right, he's not he's
- 28:46Speaker 1: not adding to the rushing total. Um. So they're pretty
- 28:49Speaker 1: good doing that stuff. And I would expect them to
- 28:52Speaker 1: get some plays on the ground, you know, And the
- 28:54Speaker 1: key will be what happens in like this game. Every
- 28:57Speaker 1: time the Lions got in scoring the Lion we're inside
- 29:00Speaker 1: the thirty I don't know, six seven times in that
- 29:03Speaker 1: game and came away with no points. Yeah, Like that's
- 29:07Speaker 1: if you can keep the score down that way, that's
- 29:10Speaker 1: that that's the huge key. Probably a good time to
- 29:12Speaker 1: mention too, Tom Palaceero reporting Harris is going to miss
- 29:15Speaker 1: some time expected Hi miss some time with the hamstring.
- 29:17Speaker 1: So I hadn't seen that. Um, I think that's uh,
- 29:20Speaker 1: it's an interesting debate, Bill said on Monday, No time
- 29:24Speaker 1: Montgomery this week. Surprised by that that he came out
- 29:27Speaker 1: and just shot that down club. That tells me that
- 29:29Speaker 1: he ain't close. Yeah, So then it's the other Harris
- 29:31Speaker 1: or Pierre Strong, right, or j J J J J Taylor? Yeah,
- 29:35Speaker 1: or to go out and and try to get somebody
- 29:38Speaker 1: if you don't if you don't trust the rookies, or
- 29:40Speaker 1: I mean, it doesn't seem like they got a lot
- 29:41Speaker 1: of confidence in J. J. Taylor. I mean, I got
- 29:43Speaker 1: to think that he gets the promotion though, But I
- 29:46Speaker 1: mean I would have been curious to see on Sunday,
- 29:50Speaker 1: let's say Thornton wasn't active, Because if Thornton wasn't active
- 29:53Speaker 1: in that game, Pierre Strong probably is right. Probably Yeah,
- 29:56Speaker 1: And then Harris goes down so early in the game,
- 29:59Speaker 1: would they still have given Stevenson twenty five carriers or
- 30:02Speaker 1: what they would said? You know what, let's keep it
- 30:03Speaker 1: to seventeen. Will give the kids seven or eight carries
- 30:06Speaker 1: to to get his feet wet. We got a twenty
- 30:08Speaker 1: six nothing the lead, twenty nine nothing the lead. You
- 30:10Speaker 1: don't think they might have? Yeah, and then that would
- 30:13Speaker 1: have been perfect for him going forward into a game.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But now I don't. I don't know how they feel
- 30:18Speaker 1: about Pierre st I have no idea, but he's the
- 30:21Speaker 1: guy on the active roster. Right. Do you think because
- 30:23Speaker 1: of that there might be one practice this week that's
- 30:26Speaker 1: in pads with some hitting or the other Harris ready
- 30:32Speaker 1: or running. I mean, you know, I think you know
- 30:34Speaker 1: you're talking about last weekday. A lot of the guys
- 30:36Speaker 1: talked that they pulled back and didn't wear pads last Wednesday,
- 30:39Speaker 1: built built talk they went walked through off the overtime game.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It's kind of those like sports science stuff, you know,
- 30:45Speaker 1: And I'm serious, Yeah, like a science like a pitch
- 30:48Speaker 1: came um but Latin to me. I don't know how
- 30:51Speaker 1: how I mean, I think you got a physical run
- 30:53Speaker 1: team coming in and you know, you were home this week,
- 30:56Speaker 1: so I'm gonna say there's gonna be pads tomorrow. But
- 30:58Speaker 1: I don't really know. I mean, I think it's a conversation.
- 31:01Speaker 1: We had a lot all through the summer of Kevin
- 31:03Speaker 1: Harris had the issues at the end with with the
- 31:05Speaker 1: putting the ball on the ground. Never really saw anything
- 31:07Speaker 1: out of peer Strong. I mean, he just never really
- 31:09Speaker 1: had a moment that I can look back on during
- 31:11Speaker 1: camp and say, oh, that was a good play, um.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And you know, and J J. Taylor continues to be
- 31:16Speaker 1: JJ Taylor, which is so he can he makes plays
- 31:18Speaker 1: like he seems to be active when he gets out there,
- 31:20Speaker 1: but for whatever reason, they seem like that is like
- 31:23Speaker 1: break glass in case of him. I think I think
- 31:25Speaker 1: we're going to see him elevated this week. Now. I
- 31:27Speaker 1: don't know if he'll have a huge role. And I
- 31:29Speaker 1: think he's been hurt too. Yeah, but he's on the practice. Yeah.
- 31:31Speaker 1: I talked to my buddy Mike Greece though when he
- 31:33Speaker 1: said he was he was missing from practice for a
- 31:35Speaker 1: little bit. But he's been out back. So assuming that
- 31:38Speaker 1: that's good Intel and I have no reason to ever
- 31:40Speaker 1: doubt the best in the business. But then I also
- 31:43Speaker 1: think Paul, like he Strong, has had like five weeks
- 31:47Speaker 1: of practice, Like if he can't even get a shot
- 31:49Speaker 1: now that, I don't think that's a great sign. Well,
- 31:51Speaker 1: I think he'll be active too. I think they're gonna
- 31:54Speaker 1: have to figure out the ball. Well, they're gonna have
- 31:57Speaker 1: to figure out what to do with the wide receiver situation,
- 31:59Speaker 1: because obviously one of them will replace Damian Harris if
- 32:02Speaker 1: he's in fact out one of them, so that that's
- 32:05Speaker 1: a one for one. But I think you might. I
- 32:06Speaker 1: think you're gonna need to go with an extra running back.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Don't you like what happens if you if you say, okay,
- 32:11Speaker 1: I go to go with Jess from Mondre Stevenson and
- 32:13Speaker 1: Pierre Strong, and then you know, Strong gets out there
- 32:16Speaker 1: and like fumbles the ball or you know, God forbid Stevenson,
- 32:21Speaker 1: you know, turns an ankle. Right, Well, I think they
- 32:23Speaker 1: might have two extra running backs because I like Agalore
- 32:27Speaker 1: and Borne might be dinged up right. They had a
- 32:32Speaker 1: hamstring issue. Didn't Born get hurt too, No, just his pride.
- 32:36Speaker 1: He got yelled at by Bill. I know he did.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I know, I know he did. But I thought he
- 32:41Speaker 1: also had his own little hamstring. But we'll see on Wednesday.
- 32:44Speaker 1: I don't Yeah, we'll see on Wednesday when we get
- 32:49Speaker 1: the first injury report that Belichick can't wait to give
- 32:51Speaker 1: it to us. Yeah, all right, Well, a lot of
- 32:54Speaker 1: stuff to talk about. Eight five five paths five hundred.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Is the a sticket out line, web radio at Patriots
- 32:59Speaker 1: dot com. Is the email address, um one other things.
- 33:03Speaker 1: You know, we'll talk about this a little later. But
- 33:05Speaker 1: you know, UM, the QB hits, you know, it's crazy
- 33:10Speaker 1: like the last night in Um, the Brady one on Sunday,
- 33:14Speaker 1: we're ridiculously bad calls. But people are confusing that emphasis
- 33:20Speaker 1: with the concussion protocol. The two situation is about concussion protocol. Yeah,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I think it's not about QB hits. I think they're
- 33:30Speaker 1: extremely related. Well it's they're all under the umbrella of
- 33:33Speaker 1: safety making the game more safe, but especially the Brady one.
- 33:37Speaker 1: But was the kind of like quote unquote throwdown. Yeah no, no,
- 33:41Speaker 1: that that's how the concussion happened. But but people are
- 33:44Speaker 1: conflating to you know, people are conflating the you know,
- 33:48Speaker 1: the concussion procedure and protocol with this over emphasis of
- 33:52Speaker 1: QB hits. They're to me, they're separate. You can talk
- 33:56Speaker 1: about them separately. You know, when does a guy have
- 33:58Speaker 1: a concussion? Verse when should he come out of the game?
- 34:01Speaker 1: Verse what's a QB roughing and what's not? I think
- 34:04Speaker 1: they're separate discussions, you know, and people are conflating both
- 34:08Speaker 1: of them. Yeah, I think that the reason that people
- 34:10Speaker 1: and I'm conflating them too. If saying it the way
- 34:13Speaker 1: you just said it, I agree one hundred percent. Like
- 34:15Speaker 1: the conversations about when a guy should or shouldn't be
- 34:18Speaker 1: allowed to play is different than this. But I think
- 34:21Speaker 1: that they're being more stringent on these calls because of
- 34:25Speaker 1: the recent concussions. Well, if that's the case, then they
- 34:28Speaker 1: should be all over the field then, not just with
- 34:30Speaker 1: the quarterbacks exactly. You know what they're talking about, Like
- 34:33Speaker 1: the spinning down that Cincinnati did of Tua. Yeah, there's
- 34:36Speaker 1: nothing wrong with that play. Now, it was unfortunate. The
- 34:38Speaker 1: result of the play was unfortunate, but there was there's
- 34:41Speaker 1: nothing wrong with throwing a guy down. Now, if you
- 34:43Speaker 1: pick a guy up and toss him on his head,
- 34:45Speaker 1: that's different. But you're spinning a guy like I don't
- 34:47Speaker 1: know how how many times do we watch these games
- 34:50Speaker 1: in the NFL and we will watch training, can't practice,
- 34:53Speaker 1: and we see how little tackling they do. When we
- 34:55Speaker 1: say no one can tackle anymore, no one can tackle,
- 34:58Speaker 1: no one can tackle. These guys break so many tackles,
- 35:00Speaker 1: These guys missed so many tackles, and then they have
- 35:02Speaker 1: to watch the way they tackle because if they don't
- 35:04Speaker 1: do it right, it's a fifteen yard penalty that all
- 35:07Speaker 1: you know, can completely alter the game. Think about think
- 35:11Speaker 1: about the Tampa Bay Atlanta one specifically, forget about the
- 35:15Speaker 1: play itself, think about the impact it potentially has on
- 35:19Speaker 1: a livelihood. Arthur Smith isn't like about his second or
- 35:22Speaker 1: third year, third year, Maybe that's a that's like a
- 35:25Speaker 1: career trajectory kind of altering play. You get that win,
- 35:30Speaker 1: and they're like in first place in the A and
- 35:32Speaker 1: the NFC South in a bad division, but in the
- 35:35Speaker 1: conference that's wide open, and maybe that's the you know,
- 35:39Speaker 1: we just we just rallied from a twenty one nothing
- 35:41Speaker 1: deficit at Tampa. Yeah, got that win, and now here
- 35:45Speaker 1: we go, we're gonna take off as opposed to right,
- 35:48Speaker 1: it's maybe they lose four the next five because they're
- 35:50Speaker 1: still feeling sorry for themselves for the screw it's quarterback roughing. Reviewable. No,
- 35:55Speaker 1: it should be. Make it reviewable. Make it reviewable. It's
- 35:59Speaker 1: it's a big I would like to see if you
- 36:02Speaker 1: don't want to make it reviewable. I understand there was
- 36:06Speaker 1: a play in the game on Sunday that the officials
- 36:09Speaker 1: I think overturned upstairs that we never knew about, and
- 36:13Speaker 1: that was early in the game. Jared Goff rolled to
- 36:16Speaker 1: the near sideline by the in front of the Lions bench.
- 36:20Speaker 1: First possession of the game, the first down one yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 1: yeah he the referee put the ball down, signaled first down.
- 36:27Speaker 1: They moved the chains yep, and then then all of
- 36:30Speaker 1: a sudden, the referee said, actually, actually we've spotted the ball.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It's fourth down, less than the yard to go. There's
- 36:38Speaker 1: no doubt in my mind that someone upstairs said you
- 36:41Speaker 1: missed the spot on that right, and I think they're right.
- 36:44Speaker 1: The guy upstairs got it right. He was short of
- 36:46Speaker 1: the first down by like a blade of grass. Yea.
- 36:50Speaker 1: No one had like you didn't have to like stop
- 36:52Speaker 1: the game, go under a hood. Oh I make a production.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Was clearly someone the upstairs told the referee that they
- 36:58Speaker 1: spotted the ball. I've always been a proponent of having
- 37:01Speaker 1: that extra eyes and having them able to because they're
- 37:05Speaker 1: not going to overrule unless it's obvious, unless they're absolutely sure.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And I think you know, I know, Belichick's a proponent
- 37:12Speaker 1: of everything should be reviewable, sure, and why not. But
- 37:15Speaker 1: you know you still have the limitations on how many
- 37:18Speaker 1: times you can call for a review and all that.
- 37:20Speaker 1: That all remains the same, But anything can be reviewed.
- 37:23Speaker 1: So I think quarterback roughing should be reviewed. And here's
- 37:27Speaker 1: my problem with it. I think if both of those
- 37:30Speaker 1: players got reviewed, they both would have stayed. I don't
- 37:33Speaker 1: think did you hear the explanations by the two morons
- 37:36Speaker 1: that called him? Yea, I know, but last night you
- 37:38Speaker 1: know who, I don't know who was in the both well,
- 37:41Speaker 1: who was in it absolutely wasn't rough right. He said
- 37:44Speaker 1: his arm actually came down to bracet and Kyle Scheffer
- 37:47Speaker 1: said no, he related it right on. Well, he's wrong
- 37:49Speaker 1: and no kidding. And he's the one who made the
- 37:51Speaker 1: car I know, but don't let him be the like
- 37:53Speaker 1: I said, if it's reviewable, he's the one who makes
- 37:55Speaker 1: the call, the guy up in the booth, the guy
- 37:57Speaker 1: up in the booth. Now you're changing the tirety of
- 38:00Speaker 1: the system. Okay, I don't care, but this is this
- 38:02Speaker 1: is That's what I worry about is guys like like
- 38:05Speaker 1: Jerome Bogar and the guy last night, they go, they
- 38:08Speaker 1: go to the pool, they go to the pool report
- 38:10Speaker 1: and they double down. I know, like, I don't think
- 38:12Speaker 1: there's anything wrong with the guy saying, obviously I had
- 38:16Speaker 1: a chance to see a couple of replays and uh,
- 38:19Speaker 1: you know, Jared didn't spin him down the way I
- 38:22Speaker 1: had originally seen it. That's what I'd like to have back. Okay,
- 38:26Speaker 1: if I'm Arthur Smith and the Falcons, I'm not any
- 38:28Speaker 1: less pissed, but at least I have an acknowledgement that
- 38:33Speaker 1: what everybody saw was actually what happened, right Instead, Jerome
- 38:37Speaker 1: Bogar says, what I saw was him throwing him to
- 38:42Speaker 1: the to the ground. They tell them that's called the tackle.
- 38:44Speaker 1: They tell they tell these refs air on the side
- 38:47Speaker 1: of caution when it comes to these quack that. I
- 38:49Speaker 1: thought that was interesting that John Parry said last night.
- 38:51Speaker 1: It's the only rule in the book that it specifically says,
- 38:56Speaker 1: when in doubt, throw it right and rubbing the past.
- 39:00Speaker 1: I've never heard that, and so that makes it tough
- 39:02Speaker 1: on the ref so take it out of their hands
- 39:04Speaker 1: if it's questionable and let somebody else look at it. Yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 1: well it's just I mean, this is you're talking about
- 39:09Speaker 1: games being affected, and I mean as as a referee myself,
- 39:11Speaker 1: but there's nothing worse than thinking like you gotta call
- 39:14Speaker 1: wrong and you have no way to get it back,
- 39:16Speaker 1: and a team is going to get screwed royally and
- 39:18Speaker 1: lose a game, and all the implications. Like Paul laid out,
- 39:21Speaker 1: I just get it right, Just get it right, just
- 39:23Speaker 1: get right aside, Just get somebody up top and get
- 39:26Speaker 1: it right. Because so many times, you know, the roughing
- 39:29Speaker 1: happens after a good defensive play. Well, this one is
- 39:33Speaker 1: the one on the Chiefs was really bad because I
- 39:37Speaker 1: mean ten minutes but that but that's a play that
- 39:42Speaker 1: changes the entire game. Now, the Chiefs ended up coming
- 39:47Speaker 1: back from it because they're good enough to come back
- 39:49Speaker 1: from it. But you think if that happened in the
- 39:51Speaker 1: Detroit Lions, they were overcoming now right right, all right, Um,
- 39:55Speaker 1: Paul's foods here, So we'll take a break, let them meet.
- 39:58Speaker 1: We have calls lined up. We'll get right to them
- 40:01Speaker 1: after this. Want to get into the game, get coached

- 47:24Speaker 1: not that on strength. It's good at him shodgup snapped
- 47:31Speaker 1: pick gone, dropping back, throws it to the right side
- 47:34Speaker 1: in his fleet. He was looking a hair saint brown.
- 47:37Speaker 1: He would have been shying a gone on as he
- 47:38Speaker 1: was drilled by Mills along with jos Jotapan Mirama stopped
- 47:44Speaker 1: for the Pats and the Lions and out over fourth
- 47:48Speaker 1: on fourth down GoF under center gives it and a
- 47:52Speaker 1: hair actil drop. I'm McMillan. Jackson thrown for a lags
- 47:57Speaker 1: and the Lions left wading again. Fourth down, fourth and
- 48:02Speaker 1: a long pourn God dropping back stands in, stands in pocket,
- 48:06Speaker 1: collapsing GoF throws into the end zone and the pass
- 48:09Speaker 1: is welcome up on the at lock. Jack Jones was
- 48:12Speaker 1: there as well for the Patriots, in addition to Adrian
- 48:16Speaker 1: Billips covering Josh Reynolds, another hoofer. On fourth down, pour
- 48:22Speaker 1: Detroit Stapping places kick garaboard of the uprights down. That
- 48:26Speaker 1: kick is good. Dripping to the uprights is good. That
- 48:30Speaker 1: kick is good, Folks. Three for the three garboard of
- 48:32Speaker 1: the uprights is good. Four for four for the veteran kicker.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Kick is lifted to the uprights and Nick Folk doesn't again.
- 48:39Speaker 1: He's made thirty seven thirty two, forty four thirty seven,
- 48:45Speaker 1: and he hits again for the Patriots. So the rookie
- 48:52Speaker 1: snapping in his home debut and his starting debut in
- 48:55Speaker 1: the NFL today for the Patriots, goes seventeen for twenty
- 49:00Speaker 1: one eight yards with a touchdown pass Mdering Stevens and
- 49:05Speaker 1: runs for one sixty one. Jack Klobe Myers back in
- 49:07Speaker 1: the lineup for the first time in four weeks, for
- 49:11Speaker 1: more than one hundred yards receiving. The Patriots roll over
- 49:16Speaker 1: the Lions in their throwbacks with their ten win in
- 49:19Speaker 1: these throwback uniforms. The third time they beat the Lions
- 49:22Speaker 1: in them, and again they win at twenty nines and nothing.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Not a beautiful day here in Foxborough. All right, we're
- 49:37Speaker 1: back here, Patriots unfiltered. What oh we gotta do? Uh hey, oh,

- 50:19Speaker 1: like it when I questioned his reads. Oh, you guys
- 50:22Speaker 1: got another button controversy. You guys like like boiling the
- 50:26Speaker 1: egos with the hosts. Oh yeah, it's like really something
- 50:30Speaker 1: else something a while. I like to tease take those calls.
- 50:33Speaker 1: A lot of egos. The radio guys have such thin skins.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I love it. I love myself. Party schedule, he'll get
- 50:40Speaker 1: he'll get all anti about it. Yeah, all right, Pats
- 50:43Speaker 1: five hundred is the Ace ticket outline. I promise we'd
- 50:46Speaker 1: get to the phones, and I will do that right now.
- 50:48Speaker 1: We'll start with Jim and Connecticut. What's up, Jim, Thanks
- 50:51Speaker 1: for holding on. How you doing today? I'm loans first
- 50:56Speaker 1: time fawler. Thank you. I just got a couple of
- 50:58Speaker 1: points to make. One about the quarterback. Just from watching
- 51:03Speaker 1: Zappy in the first game against the Packers. One thing
- 51:06Speaker 1: I noticed is that it looked like he had like
- 51:08Speaker 1: a nice tight spiral. So it's one of what you
- 51:11Speaker 1: guys think about that and about like maybe playing in
- 51:13Speaker 1: the wind and bad weather into wor I've heard he
- 51:15Speaker 1: can spin the ball y, Yeah, he can spin it. Yeah,
- 51:18Speaker 1: I think he throw No, I do. I think he
- 51:20Speaker 1: throws a good spiral. I think I think he's right.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I don't think that's necessarily the be all end all
- 51:25Speaker 1: and bad weather though, Like you have to be able
- 51:26Speaker 1: to throw it with some yeah velocity and conviction. Yeah. Yeah,
- 51:30Speaker 1: I'm not making a plus or minus for mac Jones
- 51:32Speaker 1: or anybody, but I'm just telling you what I noticed
- 51:34Speaker 1: that I thought was good. He throws, he throws a
- 51:37Speaker 1: tight spiral. He does absolutely and in the second game
- 51:41Speaker 1: that he just played, you know that we just won
- 51:43Speaker 1: against Detroit, you know, besides the same thing, I knows,
- 51:47Speaker 1: it looked like he moves a little bit around to
- 51:49Speaker 1: give it receivers a couple of seconds. One of them,
- 51:51Speaker 1: like Hutcheson, was coming in right on him. He saw
- 51:53Speaker 1: him and made a move, you know, so it was
- 51:55Speaker 1: a little easier because he was coming full speed. But
- 51:57Speaker 1: I thought that was a little one good point I
- 51:59Speaker 1: knew was from this point this game. I thought he
- 52:01Speaker 1: moved well in the pocket in this game too. I'm
- 52:03Speaker 1: with you two for two. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah. So that's
- 52:06Speaker 1: the only things I want to mention about Zappi, only
- 52:08Speaker 1: because it seems like, um everyone was po pulling him
- 52:12Speaker 1: a little bit because he's a thirst training quarterback and
- 52:14Speaker 1: I'm not comparing it to Brady or bled so in
- 52:17Speaker 1: like that. But I just know it's a couple of
- 52:19Speaker 1: things that I thought was good at bottom, you know,
- 52:21Speaker 1: like to me, I'm not a big Horrior fan because
- 52:23Speaker 1: he kind of know what you got. Even though a
- 52:25Speaker 1: block people wanted to go with the veteran. But you know,
- 52:28Speaker 1: I just thought that he gives us a good enough
- 52:31Speaker 1: chance to win. I don't know if the Patriots have
- 52:33Speaker 1: found a diamond in the rough, they certainly found their
- 52:35Speaker 1: backup well, right, and there's a lot of value to that.
- 52:39Speaker 1: I think, you know, people, it doesn't need to be
- 52:41Speaker 1: Bailey Zappie has to replace Mac Jones or else he's
- 52:43Speaker 1: a bust. Like, there's a lot of value. And I mean,
- 52:46Speaker 1: even if Zappie's only here a few years as a backup,
- 52:48Speaker 1: and then maybe he gets a deal, you maybe get
- 52:50Speaker 1: a compic, but you've got at least somebody who's getting
- 52:52Speaker 1: some experience that doesn't look like he's gonna absolutely lose
- 52:55Speaker 1: his mind if he has to start. I mean it's
- 52:57Speaker 1: a good thing. It just gets lost in that what
- 52:59Speaker 1: was he going to overtake Mac? I don't think the
- 53:01Speaker 1: whole the whole horrior thing kind of bothers me. Like,
- 53:04Speaker 1: what do you think the score of the game would
- 53:05Speaker 1: have been Sunday Beforior played Like maybe the exact same.
- 53:09Speaker 1: I would probably say more, Yeah, they don't kick five
- 53:12Speaker 1: field goals, maybe they get another touchdown or two. Yeah, right,
- 53:17Speaker 1: Patty's an agawam, what's up, Patty? Patty? Patty's usually right
- 53:24Speaker 1: on the ball, but it's probably drunk. Not today. Go
- 53:27Speaker 1: to Christian in La. What's up Christian? Hey, you guys,
- 53:31Speaker 1: Happy Tuesday. See you all. Thanks getting right into it.
- 53:35Speaker 1: I don't have any questions, but I do have a
- 53:37Speaker 1: couple of wins I'd like to have you guys speak about.
- 53:40Speaker 1: First of all, shout out to the defense for playing
- 53:43Speaker 1: up to their potential and showing what this defense can
- 53:46Speaker 1: do if they all play together. Shout out to Daddy
- 53:49Speaker 1: for holding it together and making some plays. And maybe
- 53:52Speaker 1: he does play in a way that Mac doesn't quite
- 53:55Speaker 1: play in that our players respond to a little bit better.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Um More, Stephen thought this guy was special from the
- 54:02Speaker 1: very beginning, and all he really needed was a lot
- 54:06Speaker 1: more opportunity in this offense. Tiquan Thornton, we need to
- 54:10Speaker 1: get this guy a little more movement, right. He's not
- 54:13Speaker 1: going to fight hand fighting off the line or beat
- 54:16Speaker 1: the press. He needs to do some of that movement
- 54:18Speaker 1: like Julian Edelman needs to do and explode into the secondary.
- 54:21Speaker 1: And I think maybe we can get some um splash
- 54:24Speaker 1: plays from him in that way. Um Jones man, what
- 54:28Speaker 1: a play? Which one did? Come the play last night?
- 54:32Speaker 1: He becomes the first player in NFL history to get
- 54:36Speaker 1: a roughing the passer call while he had the ball
- 54:39Speaker 1: in his hand. So the call was not a miscall.
- 54:43Speaker 1: The spirital of the call is a quarterback is still
- 54:45Speaker 1: in a quarterbacking position. You can't land on him with
- 54:48Speaker 1: both of your hands. He didn't, He didn't wait supposed
- 54:50Speaker 1: to brace him, right, Yeah, he did. Brace. That's what
- 54:54Speaker 1: made it even worse. Yeah, one hand had the ball, right,
- 54:57Speaker 1: so he had possession of the ball actually and brace
- 55:00Speaker 1: embrace the fall with the other on right, Like, that's
- 55:02Speaker 1: what made it doubly bad. Yeah, because you're right, Christian, like,
- 55:06Speaker 1: he's got the ball in his hands. He shouldn't have
- 55:10Speaker 1: to worry about what happens after that, right absolutely. However,
- 55:13Speaker 1: what they said was last night. But even if a
- 55:16Speaker 1: guy like intercepts the ball and in the in the
- 55:18Speaker 1: process he takes the quarterback and throws them down to
- 55:21Speaker 1: the ground or something, that would be roughing, So they
- 55:23Speaker 1: have to right, but it wouldn't bet Yeah, but it's
- 55:26Speaker 1: not the same. It would be a post possession foul
- 55:29Speaker 1: in that case, right, right, And if they called it
- 55:32Speaker 1: a post possession foul last night, I at least would
- 55:35Speaker 1: have I still would disagree with the call, but at
- 55:37Speaker 1: least I would understand. I'll tell you what the problem
- 55:39Speaker 1: with that play was. Kyle Shefferds had no idea that
- 55:41Speaker 1: Chris Jones had the ball. None right, so right. He
- 55:44Speaker 1: called the call the way it was supposed to be
- 55:46Speaker 1: called based on what he saw. So my last point
- 55:48Speaker 1: is this, I think we need to move for something
- 55:50Speaker 1: like an extreme impact reviewable rule, where if there's a
- 55:54Speaker 1: play in the game that has extreme impact on the
- 55:57Speaker 1: outcome of the game, that call should be reviewable. How
- 56:00Speaker 1: do you determine that? That's now, now we're really getting
- 56:03Speaker 1: into gray areas, But how do you determine what's an
- 56:06Speaker 1: extreme impact on the game call? Now? Just do what
- 56:08Speaker 1: Bill says. Everything's reviewables down. No no no no no
- 56:13Speaker 1: no no no no no no no no. The same
- 56:16Speaker 1: restrictions on how many reviews are in place. It's just
- 56:20Speaker 1: that everything can be reviewed and then under two minutes
- 56:23Speaker 1: everything can be reviewed, but it's done. Nothing changes except
- 56:27Speaker 1: what can be right. I would be all for that
- 56:29Speaker 1: if they didn't try that thing with pass interference a
- 56:31Speaker 1: few years ago, and then they refused to actually look
- 56:33Speaker 1: at the replay. Yeah right, So wait, what you're saying
- 56:37Speaker 1: is you can throw the flags through review any kind
- 56:39Speaker 1: of play at anytime. Rights, exactly, and if you get them,
- 56:43Speaker 1: if you get both of them right, you get a third. Right.
- 56:45Speaker 1: No changes to the amount that you can challenge, right,
- 56:48Speaker 1: just Freddie wants to open everything up to challenge. Yeah, listen,
- 56:52Speaker 1: I know you guys are down or you haven't seen
- 56:54Speaker 1: a lot from your stone, but mark my words. Like
- 56:57Speaker 1: I said in the preseason, by the end of the season,
- 57:00Speaker 1: the backfield would be Romandre Stephens and pr Strong with
- 57:03Speaker 1: his four three speed and ability to catch the ball
- 57:05Speaker 1: out of the backfield. A little more coaching, I think
- 57:07Speaker 1: he'd become an impact player later on the season. It's
- 57:10Speaker 1: like a faster version of James White. It's not a
- 57:13Speaker 1: great receiver, just so you know. But whatever, all right, thanks,
- 57:15Speaker 1: Christian were gon We're gonna make him one. Well, Christian
- 57:18Speaker 1: was writing about Romandre Stevenson from the start, so why
- 57:21Speaker 1: not pr Strong Stevens Uh Yeah, I told you, I
- 57:26Speaker 1: think Romandre Stevenson is the best player in the team.
- 57:29Speaker 1: I have been saying for the better part of a
- 57:32Speaker 1: year and a half. You know. Ever since he was
- 57:34Speaker 1: finally allowed to play after you know, daring to fumble
- 57:37Speaker 1: once in his career, I think he's been dominant. I
- 57:41Speaker 1: think Vermandre Stevenson is a better back than Damian. That
- 57:44Speaker 1: lesson made him better. Paul just as maybe cost seating
- 57:48Speaker 1: last year. We talked about it on the TV show.
- 57:50Speaker 1: But his jump cuts, like his ability to just kind
- 57:53Speaker 1: of go stop go Ladderal Barry sanders Man going, it's
- 57:56Speaker 1: it's I mean, there were just so many I don't
- 57:58Speaker 1: remember an instance like this weekend where there were so
- 58:01Speaker 1: many lions that thought they had him and then all
- 58:04Speaker 1: of a sudden he just throws the brakes on hops
- 58:06Speaker 1: left or right and they miss. I mean, yeah, break ankle.
- 58:10Speaker 1: He is really good in small spaces and then you've
- 58:13Speaker 1: got to try to tackle him too, so it's like
- 58:15Speaker 1: you put your head down, you know. It's it's tough.
- 58:17Speaker 1: He's a big boy. He'll run you over, but he
- 58:19Speaker 1: can also jump around. Yet it's cool to watch, all right.
- 58:22Speaker 1: Web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address.
- 58:24Speaker 1: We're getting a lot of emails. Um Ken in the
- 58:27Speaker 1: Navy will start it off, he says, with preseason just ending.
- 58:30Speaker 1: We have our first unsurprising head coach firing in Carolina.
- 58:34Speaker 1: How many Patriots coaching staff do we think will be
- 58:37Speaker 1: interviewed this season? One also, offense look competent with a
- 58:45Speaker 1: third string quarterback, and our past d pass rush looks great.
- 58:49Speaker 1: I'm thinking everyone from assistant tight end coach all the
- 58:52Speaker 1: way to our co offensive coordinators will get interviews. No,
- 58:56Speaker 1: I don't think so. I make Jerod Mayob in the carousel.
- 59:03Speaker 1: I think you'll see his name pop up. Yeah. Um,
- 59:06Speaker 1: Kyle writes in I'd love to hear what you guys
- 59:09Speaker 1: have to say on this. I'm so sick of the
- 59:12Speaker 1: quarterbacks throwing, not throwing to uh oh, throwing to Nelly.
- 59:17Speaker 1: He doesn't even deserve to be thrown. Every time he
- 59:20Speaker 1: touches the ball, something bad happens. His situational awareness is
- 59:24Speaker 1: lackluster to say the least. And you have Kendrick Bourne,
- 59:27Speaker 1: who is more than capable, but they refuse to use
- 59:30Speaker 1: him because of his situation months ago. Still unbelievable to me,
- 59:33Speaker 1: they continue to give this guy his chance. As loyal
- 59:37Speaker 1: Patriots fan, I understand they need every receiver they can get.
- 59:41Speaker 1: You also can't throw to myers every play. I do
- 59:43Speaker 1: like Zappy more than Mac at this point too. At
- 59:46Speaker 1: least passes Zappy throws on fifty fifty balls. Just my thoughts. Wow,
- 59:51Speaker 1: so you want to give the numbers Deuce Born? How
- 59:54Speaker 1: many snaps are born of the snaps? How many for
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: seven forum? And I would also say this, And I
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: understand what the point that he's trying to make. Agilo
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: has been involved in turnovers. He had two fumbles. He
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: had a ball that he should have caught that resulted
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: in an interception this week. Okay, so can we you
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: we can make an assessment of Agio, but let's be
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: consistent and assess all the players the same way. Okay,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Born was involved in a catch in a previous game
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: that he fumbled. He was able to recover it. It's
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: no less egregious of a mistake. He caught a ball
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: and then fumbled it. This pass game, he was involved
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: in two plays where he got pre snap penalties on
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: because he didn't know what he was doing. He got
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: his ass chewed out for one of them by Belichick
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: when he wasn't in the illegal formation one um and
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: it look kind of looked like Bills just said go
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: sit down, like at the end of that I have
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: questions about that that call just just for my I mean,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I don't want to interrupt your thing right now. We
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: can't come back, no, But I'm just saying, let's have value. Wait,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: all of the players all the way, not the ones
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: that we like differently, and then the ones that we
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: don't like. Clearly people don't like Alga Lord, which is fine.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: He deserves it. He has three turnovers. Like, I think
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: that the criticism that he's getting is warranted. He's he's
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: been involved in negative plays so as Born, but we're
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: ignoring those because we like Born and we think he's
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: the missing the secret sauce, right that isn't being put
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: on the burger yet. I just my question on that
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: one though, was you know he was like in motion,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: he didn't stop and then I think he got called
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: for covering up the line of the ends room, So
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: does he have to stop there? That wasn't the same play?
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Am I thinking? Am? I was two different pens, two
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: different people. He went in motion and started up up
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: field before the snap. You can't this isn't the CFL.
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: You can't do that. That's illegal motion. And there was
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: another play that he was lined up covering up the
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: tight end, okay, which is just which is really mindless.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: That's the one he got in trouble. But the first
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: one happens occasionally. The referees generally give you some leeway
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: with that one one. I think that one was kind
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: of egregious and they had to call it. But the
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: second penalty that he got line up you can't line
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: up wrong. You can't get illegal formation grinds our gears
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: like priest and that penalties. I'm with the guy though,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: too just I mean, more philosophically on agil Or just
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: like you got a rookie quarterback, step up, make some
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: place for the kid. You know. It's just anytime a
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: veteran player like that isn't doing that, it's it's more disappointing.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: But the thing is is that Agilo was productive in
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: training camp. Like, Agilo looked good. He made a lot
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: of plays in training camp, and I thought he got
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: off to a good start, and then the fumbles have
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: derailed him. It's been disappointing. The other things. I sort
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: of came to this, like, you know, we all want
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Thornton to play, right. I don't want to get rid
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: of any of these guys because I don't either, because
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I think you're gonna need them. I do too. If
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: you just look at the they played five weeks. Thornton
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: had to miss four games, Myers had a miss two games,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: and now Agila basically missed a game. I don't know,
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: maybe he got benched, Maybe the hamstring wasn't a big
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: of an issue. You maybe the drop contributed to him
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: only playing seven plays, right, But I think that's tenuous
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: at that spot. And you know, my favorite guy, DeVante Parker,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: in terms of injuries, like, he gets hurt all the time.
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I don't know how much he's gonna get hurt because
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: he seems to be a like kind of an afterthought
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: right now. But I like the idea of having all
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: six of those guys and then, you know, being pretty
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: comfortable that I'm gonna have three or four of those
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: every game available. Dude, did you read into anything of
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Parkers snaps? I mean he played fifty two percent, he
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: played thirty one. I mean he pretty much is an
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: every snap guy the first few weeks. I mean, how
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: do you what do you read into that? Do you
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: think that that's they ran the ball every play? I
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: mean that was gonna take maybe some of the guys
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: off the field a little bit. I don't know. I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: don't you know. It's a good question. I don't have
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: the answer. I don't know if that's a direction they're
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: going with Thornton coming back, or if it's just a
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: generally direction they feel like they need to pull back
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: on him, or like Paul said, I don't know, it's
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: just maybe something bruling there. Bill and DC writes in
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: on the quality of play calling. It's not great, but
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: it's a lot better than I envisioned. I'm particularly impressed
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: with the job they've done in protecting Zappy. That said,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the Patriots have the third worst red zone offense in
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: the entire league in terms of scoring touchdowns. Obviously requires
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: scheme to score. Obviously some of that is on the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: quarterback play, particularly Zappy, but I think a good portion
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: of the blame has to fall on the guy calling
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: the plays. Is this something you see improving when Matt
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: comes back and Patricia gets a better feel for the game,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: or do we just not have the personnel to be
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: effective inside the twenty? Now? I like his first point.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I do think that's something you can expect to see
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: improve when Matt gets back, and the intersections on the zone,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: Patricia and Judge will be a little bit better, you know.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: If we want to credit Bill, credit Bill, and I'm
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: sure if it does improve, Bill will get the credit
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: and poor Patricia and Judge will well, we'll not. You know.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: I did hear a lot of that, like what a
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: great job by Belichick getting Zappy ready, you know, but
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: Patricia and Judge they got to do something about all
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: the field goals in the red So I heard that
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: on radio a quarterback coach, you know, he was it
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: was you know, so there is, you know, an element
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: of that. But I think that's a good point, the
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: first one. I think you can expect it to get better. Yeah,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I mean, with with Jones returning, I think it's it's
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: significant the quarterbacks too. I mean, I don't think Mac
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: was playing well in the red zone. I don't think
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: they're ready to They've got the training wheels on Zappy,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: like they kind of had him on Mac last year,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: but they wouldn't let him throw the end zone. So yeah,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I did. This is a little point of comparison, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: And this is not to I don't have anything negative
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: whatsoever to say about Bailey's appy. I think, considering the circumstances,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: straight a's across the board for everything that he's done
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: in his two games. Right, But just as a point
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: of comparison, you're grading on a curve. No, no, yes,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I am grading on a curve. You're right, right. As
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: a point of comparison, Mac Jones's first game, first game,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: he threw the ball over forty times, he had thirty
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: nine pass attempts. He get sacked a couple of times.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Bailey's happy through at twenty one. Right, So like that's
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: what the coaches think. Yeah, Tony writes, there can be
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: no complaints at all about this game. Couldn't have had
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: a better result considering you have a third string quarterback
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: to first start and a defense which held previously high
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: scoring team to zip. I complain a lot about the
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: post Messiah era, but not this time. Good for them?
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Who was that, Tony? Excellent? Excellent email? You know, because
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: it happens to agree with me, So it's an excellent email. Um,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: let's see Jack and osh gosh right? Um? Was the
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Patriots improved run defense against Detroit the result of game planning?
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Or have improved played by the Patriots linebackers. That's a
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: Evan Lazark Now, Well, I mean, I think it's more
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: about the score. I think a little bit of the score.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: I mean, I just think it was specific examples where
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: these were big plays and they made the big plays.
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: It wasn't like, hey, they had the right scheme on
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: those plays. Like, I think they just played well. They
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: played well in the big spots that the short yardage
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: stop on the first drive of the game was huge. Huge.
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Chris and Virginia says he has three things. One, I
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: believe the play calling has gotten better as the season progressed. However,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I have concerns over the red zone offense. Do you
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: guys think it's play calling or execution? I feel like
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: the play is questioning at times. Isn't that funny to you? Or?
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Am I the only one that finds that contradictory? Yeah?
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: I didn't think the actual play calls themselves would be
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: an issue. I thought the entire design structure of the
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: offense would be an issue. I'll let you know when
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I don't think it's an issue anymore. Uh. The second thing,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I would sit Mack this week and bring him back
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: against the Bears. I mean, I'm all for protecting Mac
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: from himself. I mean, I see Grease saying I can
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: see Mac trying to go at fifty to sixty percent,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: and I totally was he would try. But he plays
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: when he's ready to play. In my mind, like if
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: he's ready to play well the doctors, yeah, that's right.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Not Mac. No, Like, no, he's got to be like
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: I've got I've got to basically I have to. He
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: has to try out for me, and he has to
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: do certain things passes to move because right, I just
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: think that if you get back there, even like listen Bailey, Zappi,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: he's not he's not a good runner, he's not overly mobile,
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: he's not fast, he's not quick, but he moved around
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: really well on Sunday, just like Mac moved around really
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: well against Baltimore. And he's not fast either. But do
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you think Mac would be able to move the way
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: he did against Baltimore right now? No? So if he can't,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: right then I say I gotta go with the kid again. Absolutely.
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: In the final thing from Chris is all this nonsense
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: of Zappy over Mac is just poor to me. I
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: think they just found Hoyer's replacement for the future and
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: that's it. And there's nothing wrong with that if that
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: is what the case is. I mean, you know, you
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: could rely You might need to rely on this guy
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: a bunch of times and then, you know, I hope not.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: But I think there's people are underselling that uh Selman
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: in the Bay Area, right son. That was a good
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: defensive win against a good offense. Yeah, I'm not jumping
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: on the I think he cut and pasted and forgot
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: to put it back in. I'm not jumping on the
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: Zappy over Mac train right now. But Zappy does have
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: a solid arm and makes good decisions. But they also
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: are not asking much of him. He has a bright
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: future as a backup now my game comments number one,
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: the roughing the passer on mac Wilson can join the
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: list of bad roughing the passer penalties. Fred, do you
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: care to comment on that? In the in where the
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: way I saw it on the replay his helmet hit
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: uh Goth's chin. Other people said, you know that have
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: seen it more times that it actually didn't, and go,
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: you know sold it really well. You know, I look
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: like I just don't understand why mac Wilson jumped. That's
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: the only thing like jump if he made contact or didn't.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I still haven't really seen a really good replay. I'm
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: going off of Fred because to me, Fred would air
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: on the side of the Patriot. Scot screwed right and
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Fred didn't. Yeh, he went the other way. No, I
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: think it was I'm I'm with Fred. I think it
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: was a poet number two. I saw a number fifty
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: make a run stuffing play and wondered for a second
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: who that was. When I realized it was McMillan. I thought,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: that's the first play I've seen him make all season. Yeah,
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I mean he's been quite focused thumb. I mean he's yeah,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: he missed really is limited? Did he miss two games?
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: I know he was out one, but I think he
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: just played playing Pittsburgh, but sparingly. Sparingly I think against
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: the Packers, Okay, and then but yeah, I mean it's
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I know they were cited about him. I think that's
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: a you know, someone's a little bit I picked him
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: out of college. No, yeah, I was. He was on
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: my board, right, Paul McMillan. That that's the kind of
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: guy that would be on your board, just a random
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: like there was like a linebacker from like, oh, I forget,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: it's like a random like South Dakota State or some
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: random like some guy that he fell in love with,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: White Homing or something. Was a combination, probably I cross reference.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Now Fred does have, like I've got every year at
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: the draft, is like three guys that he loves. Just
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: one of them. Yeah, one of them will be a
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: guy that everybody knows, like Justin Jefferson. Great call by
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: the way, I'm not making fun of you for that
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: at all, Great call um. And then the other two
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: guys will be guys that, like you literally have to
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: scour your notes to find, like his measurables. Three. Why
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: go into the game with two running backs when you
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: know the game plan is going to be run heavy
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: with a rookie quarterback? What would have happened if Stevenson
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: got hurt too? That was a head scratcher coaching decision.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: A lot of people. I think that's worthy of second guessing.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: And I think the reason that he just wrote there
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: is why you would second guess it. You know you're
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: gonna try to run the ball thirty five forty times,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: So I mean, I guess he probably looked at and said,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: even if I lose one, I'll have the other. But
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you lost one really early, I know, So what would
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: have happened if you did lose the other one? And
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: we were talking in the press box too, It's like
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you didn't even have John ou Smith, who's lined up
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: in the backfield and run the ball a little bit.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: You didn't have him available. What would you have done? No?
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: And then I mean I just look at your Socol too,
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: who didn't even play. I mean that's how they're managing.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Socol wasn't going to be getting the ball. But you
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: see like at least they've got a little bit of
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: protection at that spot where they only have one guy
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: and didn't. It seemed after those two you don't really
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: have anything. Yeah, they got away with it. Stevenson turned in,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: you know, a career performance Oka and Tampa with teams
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: going for it on fourth down more than they ever did.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Do you think the NFL would ever consider changing first
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: downs from ten yards to twelve to fifteen yards? I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: feel like it's getting too easy for offenses to move
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: the chains. What do you guys think and how do
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: you guys feel about that? I hate it? No, No,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I mean it's like extending the three point range in basketball.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Too easy scoring is down. I mean, if it's so
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: easy to get to get first downs, why is one
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: team going four for twelve on third down the other
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: seems going three for nine on third pound. Also a
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: quick comment was the Patriots game Sunday third And also,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: you know that's the other thing. You know. Okay, so
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: you live in New England, You're gonna watch the Patriots
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: every week. The other game you're fed are usually games
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: with you know, stars, good quarterbacks. So you see movement,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, you're used to that on TV. You know,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: you see the Mahomes, you see the Rogers, and you know.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Also a quick comment to Paul, Paul, you always proclaim
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: you're not an All twenty two guy, but every time
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: you comment on the x's and oh's, you're pretty spot on.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I know Evan gets a lot of credit, as he should,
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: but Paul, you definitely have a great football mind. I
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: think a show with you and Evan would be good,
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: but ever would kill me. But I know that would minutes.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: He would kill me in five minutes because I would
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: get under his skin too much. And Paul, superpower is
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: just sounding convincing he doesn't know. No, I'll tell you what.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: I'll tell you what my First of all, I don't
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: try to break down the ex's nose because I don't
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: know them. I don't I don't pretend to know them.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: I don't want to know them. But I do know
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: what a good play is and a good player in general.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: But I think with my superpower is is something YouTube
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: make fun of me all the time about your memory. Yes, yeah,
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: and I remember a play and I remember what I saw,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and I don't need to go and look at it
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: all twenty two. I'm not telling you what all twenty
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: two guys did on the play. I'm telling you what
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: happened in my mind on a play. Right that. I mean,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: I don't think a lot of people. I mean I
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: listened to Greg all the time, right Greg Bdard when
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: we leave here. He's on the post game show on
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: the Sports Hub, and I can't tell you how many times.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: The first thing he says is, I'd have to go
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: back and look and see how many plus plays, Like
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: I watched the game, Romander Stevenson had a lot of
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: plus plays in the game, Like I don't need to
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: go back and look at you all twenty two. He
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: fashions himself a coach. No, but that but that's what
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: that's what the coach. But but there's a reason the
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: coach is saying, right, Bill Belichick doesn't want to get
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: into it. Do you think Bill Belichick couldn't tell you,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: of course after the game? Yeah, of course, of course
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: he could because he is, like he could tell you
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: what every guy did on every play. Yep, because that's
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: like a different level of just in depth knowledge of
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: what's going on. I don't have any of that, but
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Bill after a game could tell you how every single
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: guy in the team played. Oh yeah, Well I feel
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: a little bit like I have a unique perspective because
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: I you know, I do like watching the All twenty two.
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: But I couldn't go into a description like Evan could.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: Well did I mention your name? No, right, I'm forgetting
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: I go ahead, not unnoticed, but I will, but I
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: will just say, like you know, I just you know,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: sorry Paul to give you a comment, but like I mean,
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: I've watched four years of football with Paul now, and
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: like you know, he gets it. Like and even though
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: he might not be like, well this is a dolphin
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: route here, you know, like, you know, specific things, right,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: But that's like what I like about when I read
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: what we all write or what we all talk about,
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: and it's like, you know when I read like what
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: Evan writes, and it's you know, he loves doing it.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: He loves doing the film review. He goes super in depth.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: But then like, but you can still line up, well,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Paul's general points and my general points and the things
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: that we saw, they're here. It's just he's gonna drill
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: down for the people who really want to get into
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: like that like nuance of it, which you don't have
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: to do, like you like Paul understand, you know, like
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: we all understand the game and what's going on, what
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: the impactful plays are and who's good. But you know,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: it's just a different kind of flavor. Like I watched
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: the game. Did you watch We see the cars. That's
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: a good looking car and it's fast. Evan opens the hood. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: it's like the game. The game last night, and I
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: saw the highlights of the last play on the fourth down.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: You know, you got DeVante Adams and Hunter Renfro running
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: and they cross and Renfro just takes outta I don't
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: need to watch the All twenty two to see what
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: happened like the game ended, because it because the concept
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: because Hunter Renfro ran into DeVante Adams like I saw it,
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: like I don't, I don't need I think. The other
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: thing too with Paul is is that he I mean,
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: we make fun of him with the ending game situations,
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: but you just have an instant way of like and
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: it just processes in your brain and a lot of
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: that Chess Master, but a lot of that has been enhanced,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: but that's not really you know what that's like. For
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: twenty plus years, Belichick and Brady did it better than
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: anybody else. Yeah, and I watched them, Yeah, and I
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: know when they're gonna call the time like I kind
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: of said, Okay, you know they're gonna run this, They're
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: gonna do that, They're gonna call it time out. They'll
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: they'll spike the ball here, they'll go quick to the
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: sideline here. Because you saw greatness for twenty plus years,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: you couldn't help but have like absorbed it a little bit.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Do you ever think though, for that are No. I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: haven't been able to talk to him since O three
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Joe and Warwick, New York. It was a glorious Sunday.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: I enjoyed the post game broadcast, but Paul and Mike,
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: you left off the goodest of the goods from your list.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: The throwback uniforms reminded me of the Babe Parilli Steve
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Grogan days when there was no such thing as penciling
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: in a win. Enjoy the victories, don't fret about the losses.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: Bring back the old uniform. I love it. Uh, you know,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna put my family hat on our second Paul.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Paul's gonna make some noises, probably, but I just have
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: to say that I really like the red and what
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: I what I also was it wasn't expecting from watching them,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: was that it got rid of you. Just I just
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: thought of the Patriots, like I didn't think Brady and
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: Bill checked the genius you can't do it anymore, Like
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: all that stuff was just kind of out the window,
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: and I kind of just watched the Patriots game we
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: had for so long but without I mean, I love
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: the dominance, but it's hanging over our heads now forever
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: and it always will be. And for a moment it
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: was a nice reminder that all that wasn't hanging over
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: your head. There was a time when this was just
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: a Patriots team that you just wanted to go see
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: win a game, and that in nineteen ninety one, if
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: they had done that, people would have been doing backflips
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: in the stands, as they kind of were already. But
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: I don't know, just it just took some of that
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: dynasty hanging over all that stuff out of it and
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: just it was like, Hey, this is the Patriots again.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: This is the red Patriots that we all grew up loving,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: and we don't have to like think about you know,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: are we ever going to get back to six simpler times,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: simpler times when we stunk and we were just happy
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: to in a game. Okay, all right, I didn't think
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: about it that way, But now that you say it,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I can understand. Back to the ACEH ticket outline, Todd's
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: in North Carolina. I hate Todd. Hey, guys, you know,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I think I know what Paul is. We have a
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: sports twitch in our family that we don't watch any
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: sports with anymore because she just goes, oh, well, this
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: is going to happen like this, and when we're watching
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: our football team, she's gonnah, that's going to be a
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: funnel coming up. Just watch and we just go duck
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: and of course that wow. And that's what Paul's got.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: He's got that special power. I don't. I don't do that.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: I can just see it. Yeah, toil and trouble. Yeah,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't predictive powers, aren't I don't
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: predict Yes, he just I tell you what what, Like
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: I assess what happened after the play, like I don't
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: need to watch it seventeen times. I can see what
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I would be annoying though. So I rewatched the game,
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: and I noticed again that our favorite guy on our
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: one tackle, he could have been called for three or
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: four off sides easily or a feature I guess, because
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: it's on the offense where he's moving before the ball snap.
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: And he had a holding penalty that enough to drive
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: out in the end of the first half. Too. I
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: just what's wrong with it if he heard or something like,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: why is he just overreacting so badly when you're talking
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: about a Yeah, yeah, this is another when Trent Brown
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: did that previous week. I don't know. I thought Win
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: had a pretty good game aside from the holding or yeah,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I thought he was okay too. I saw Greg Bdard
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: wrote that he had a tough game. He get allowed,
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: Like they didn't allow hardly any pressures in the game.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: I think they only had like four, but he almost
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: but he was like two and a half of them
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: were on win. Like, I didn't notice breakdowns from when
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I thought the offensive line was pretty good breaking holes
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: for the running game. Greg didn't. Greg thought they were
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: terrible and they allowed way too many run stuffs in
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: this game. And Stevenson overcame it like like I don't know, Yeah,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: I'm not saying that Win was you know, even a
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: pro bowler on the left side, but he never I
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: don't think he ever played right side in college and
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: they threw them over there. So maybe there's an adjustment
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: period for him on that side of the ball, you know,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: Like Bill said, like, not every guy can play both sides.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: It's it's everything all the time. Everything's reversed, you know,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: from them from your you know where you put your foot,
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: where your plant, you know your hands. Um, it's all
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: the opposite way, and not every guy can make that adjustment,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: and he's been forced to do it. So you know,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: I don't know. One quick question, um a boat to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: the play calling for the quarterbacks, how does it evolve, like,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: do you how do you add stuff to build up play?
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: Is that being you know, does that be that level X?
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: How do you get them up to the next level level? Why? Like,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: what are you going to add? What do you because
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: you said it has been really simplified, but I thought
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: they did a lot of play action, which I think
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: is not well that that that's that necessarily making it
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: more confessated. Yeah, that's as simplified as it gets. Yeah,
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: run run, play action. Yeah, yeah, suck the linebackers up
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: and yeah you should have. So it's just like the
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: more they see, the more they'll be. Yeah, just watch
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: the red zone. Yeah, how much do they let them throw?
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: What are the play calls? Like when they get inside
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: the you know, twenty five thirty yard line, did they
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: start to all of a sudden we're a little bit conservative.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: It feels like that's you know, or are we taking
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: shots up the seam to the tight ends? Like you know,
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: That's when I think you'll know they're they're putting a
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: little more on his plate. Thanks Todd. Back to the
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: emails at web radio at Patriots dot com David and
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: Bethlehem Uh Patriots coaches do deserve praise. Please comment, I
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: can't talk the teenage experiments with mac Jones. Deeper passes
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: are over the calculus of x's and o's are trying
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: to fly too close to the sun. Were halted longer.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Routes of ten yard passes take a half tick longer
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: than seven yard passes. Too much strain on the O line.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: How to counteract blitzes? Run create indecision? Forget Aghalore and Smith.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Let them earn playtime if they practice well. Steve Belichick
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: and Gerard Mayo are truly cool, good coaches. The emphasis
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: on beady linebackers and hybrid defensive backs with deep safety
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: room are evidence of fine coaching. All right, Okay, let
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: me ask you this. Okay, and now it's going to
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: sound like I'm being defensive of the coach as well,
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: and I don't necessarily mean it that way. But how
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: many points do you think you'd like to see the
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: offense scoring on a consistent page? Okay? But what would
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: you accept twenty eight? Okay, the last two weeks they
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: didn't even come close to that. It's like this whole
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: like revamping of the offense, as like, you know, are
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: we done with the fifty fifty balls. Now, are we
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: done with trying to do different things? Can we just do? Yeah?
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: You can't. You can absolutely keep doing it the way
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: you did it last year and the way you've done
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: it with Bailey Zappy and you won't score, just like
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: you didn't score in Green Bay and you didn't score
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: on Sunday. Like you take the defensive scores out of
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: the games, and it's different now. If you get a
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: defensive score every week, anybody can win. That's a good
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: way to win, getting a defensive score every week, right,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Can you rely on that? It's not sustainable like they
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: I mean, they scored one offensive touchdown on Sunday? Are
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you gonna be happy with that most weeks? Right now?
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: I'm thrilled with it on Sunday because Bailey Zappy was
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: playing and I, like you said earlier, Fred, I'm I'm
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: grading with a curve like I'm not expecting him to
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: go out and score forty. Yeah, but there are going
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: to be times when you need that. You need the
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: offense to not just kick a thirty five yard field goal.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: I need seven here, And I'm sorry. They scored seventeen
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: points in Green Bay, and they scored twenty two on
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: Sunday against the worst defense in football. That was two
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: touchdowns less than Detroit normally allows. Right. Even Dan Campbell
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: was talking after the game because I thought we made
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: some strides today defensively, and now I know they played
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: a third string quarterback. If they didn't make any strides
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: that day, they ain't ever gonna Right, that's a bad defense, which,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: by the way, also lost five defensive backs along the way.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: How many field goals did Folk has? Five? Five? Like
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: that'll get you beat a lot of times, right. We
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: always say I'll trade touchdowns for field goals, right, Like,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: I just think that people are looking at things that
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: happened in extrapolating, like, see, you don't have to throw
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: fifty feet, you don't have to throw the ball down. Well,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: if you want to score, you do. If you want
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: to if you want to put points on the board,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: you have to find a way to make plays. I'm
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: not just avoid mistakes. Back to what I said earlier,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: I can't wait for Mac to come back. I'm with you, friend,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: and again I'm not trying to be overly like I've
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: been telling you how great MACI is all along. I
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: haven't been doing that but he's better than this kid. Yeah,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: and I would say too, Like, I just it's remarkable
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: to me that people are writing and complaining about trying
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: to push the ball down the field when you feel
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: like the last few years, the problem with this offense
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: is that everything you just said no chunk plays. And
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: that's why Fred I go to your point of when
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Matt comes back, feels like they're getting Taekwon involved right now,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: like he seems like we drafted this kid second round.
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: We want to get him downfield with that speed. This
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: is a big part of what our new plan is
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: going to be. So you know, how much is the
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: deep game really getting aided right now or improving without
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Mac Like I just, I feel like somewhat that's been
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: put on pause right now, and you know, when he
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: gets back in then you're gonna so I don't know
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: if they're progressing with that stuff. I know it's going
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: to be kind of starting over with Taekwona and mac Win.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: And you know what, a couple of the big plays
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: were in you know, throughout that game. Now I say
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: big and relative chims because the Patriots were in control
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: after the Judon Strip sack that led to Duggers scoop
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: and score a touchdown. The game was over, right, but
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: a couple of big plays in that game was shots
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: to Parker that resulted in interference penalties. I thought both
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: of them were tiki tack calls, but they made them
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: and that moved the ball down the field. Like, those
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: are big Those are big plays in scoring drives. Yeah,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: because if you don't, like I know, everybody said, so,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: how do you feel if those two balls are completed
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: instead of passing inferences? It is still like, you know,
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: do you have to throw fifty Those are fifty fifty balls? Right?
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: He a cooters right on Parker and he got called
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: for an inference twice. That happens sometimes when you throw
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: it down the field. Nathan in Belfast, Northern Ireland, having
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: listened back to the postgame show on Monday, I'm with
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: Mike on that that the Patriots need to resign. Resign Myers,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: just give him what he wants. At the start of
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: the season it was um it was said that Mac
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: needs a binkie. Myers has been that and was the
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: same on Sunday. For ZAPPI give him what he wants
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: and keep him on the team. He's been a productive
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: He's had a productive season after season. Yeah, with all
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: different quarterbacks too, you know what I mean. It's just
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: I love I love Myers, but so four years eighty
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: five million? Oh no, no, So don't just give him
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: what he wants, right, Okay, uh No, I'm just kidding.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I don't have any idea what he's gonna be worth
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: on the open market, but I would absolutely, I would absolutely,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: um do what you can to resign him, provided that
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: you know, they have a medical here. He gets beat up.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: He missed two games with the knee. You know, I
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: just worry about how long because he takes a lot
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: of punishment cross in the middle all the time. But
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I just think he's so reliable, right, and that's that's
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: so hard to find. I mean, that's what we say.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: Reliability is not just because I love him. Shady and Houston,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: thanks for the great show, excellent win and performance by
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: the defense. On Sunday, I wanted to raise concern about
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: the red zone offense, where we're tied for twenty eighth
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: and TD percentage. According to a stat posted by Mike Reis,
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: we've had six touchdowns from fifteen trips. How do you
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: think the team can improve in that area, and how
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: much do you think that improves when Mac returns. Yeah,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: it's a key, I mean, And also you're talking about
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: six for fifteen, So this isn't like this giant you
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: know seeing. I mean, this is kind of what you
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: would expect with I mean, I admittedly disappointed with some
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: of Max's performance in those early games in the red
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: zones best specifically some of the turnovers that he made
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: down there, but with you know, Bailey's app and Brian
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Hoyer the last two games, Like, I just think this
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: is what you're you're expecting. But I think absolutely it's
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: a key if this team's going to make the playoffs.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Red zone finding a way Connor Henry get him going touchdowns.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: They have to figure it out. Jesson Connecticut always listen
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: to you guys at work and got my coworker to
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: listen to you guys a little bit. He's convinced Zappi
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: is the newcoming of Tom Brady and thinks Max should
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: be benched and traded. It makes me laugh because of
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: how blinded people are by Zappy. He did have a
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: good week this week, and I was impressed by how
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: he handled the situation. He was out in from the
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: being third strength to starting. But there's no doubt in
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: my mind Mac would have performed better in both the
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: Packers game and the Lions game. Please talk some sense
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: into my co worker. His obsession with Zappi is getting ridiculous.
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: Is there any examples that he could cite, Like, I mean,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: we've seen every snap that Bailey Zappy's taken as a pro,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: and he's been great as far as being fine, Like
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: he hasn't been as being fine Like that's a I
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: expected out of him, you know. I just there's there's
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: you know, not a lot there that that makes you
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: think that there is a plus NFL starter there that
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: makes you think, old man, he's really good. He's gonna
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: be able to throw the ball all over the field
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: on teams. He's really athletic. I mean, he's he's a good,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: solid backup type quarterback. I just don't know the people
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: that are on the Zappie hype train, like what like
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: what what are the plays that are making you pound
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: the table to say Matt couldn't do this or this
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: was better than Mac would would do it. I don't
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: see anything that what do you think? And I say
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: this only half in jest. If his name was Bailey Smith,
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: I think that I think that name has I think
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: the name has something to do with it. I really
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: I just think he's like the underdog. I think, you know,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: total Yeah, he looks like and he looks like it
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: couldn't quite place it. But isn't that mac a little bit?
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Isn't supposed He's not as talented as the other He
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: was rafted fifteen in the first round. You know, he's
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: expected to be good. Somebody finally posted who's the kid
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: from Hoosiers that looks just like, oh yeah, it's then
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: that's like what it is? Right? You love that kid?
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: Do you love that kid? Bill and Vista California, Um
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: the firing or Matt rule and the rumors of possible
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: trades immediately starting a Carolina. That being said, who are
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: one offensive or one defensive player you would love to
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: realistically trade from, you know, get from the Panthers, DJ
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: More Christian McCaffrey. Well, what do you really want? You
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: have to give up a lot to get him? No,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: And he's always hurt and I can see like, and
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: that's why the Bills reaching out to him. That makes
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: sense to me, Like the same reason of von Miller,
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: where you know you can afford to take a little
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: bit of a chance because this guy might just make
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: you absolutely unbeatable when it comes to the playoffs if
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: he's healthy. But um, like, what do you think he's
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: going to get? Yeah, McCaffrey, Yeah, it's not what he gets,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: it's what Carolina gets. No, that's what I'm asking you.
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: What do you mean we don't want a first round
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: pick for McCamy, wouldn't give a first round pick for
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: him at this point? I don't know, man, Okay, it's
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: a little dicey, but yeah, he's always hurt. He's hurt
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: now right. I would wait to we drafted someone in
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: the first round just so I could drive him to
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: the airport and get it. I mean that. But you know,
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: we would be healthy if he were a Patriot. Who
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: are you worried about? Well, like he would be good
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: in this offense, of course it would be. I mean
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: he'd be good in Buffalo's offense, a team that he'd
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: really be good in any offense. I mean he is
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: good in every offense. He's good in Carolinas and they
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: have no offense. Right, It's true. He's a good player. Yeah.
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: I mean, obviously there's a risk with the injuries he's
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: he's been banked up, But I mean I would I
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: would take a first round pick for him, Roger and
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Saint Louis first thing. Nick Folk red jacket when this.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: But seriously, I think this was a much needed win.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: But cam Acords department will definitely make a costly mistake
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: at a more important game later in the season. This
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: is the third year in a row of uncharacteristically sloppy
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: special teams under his watch, and I keep wondering what
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: blackmail he has on the front office. Um, I'm gonna
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: push back a little bit on that because the larger
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: point is true. But back in twenty twenty, their special
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: teams were really good. Yeah, they blocked all those kicks
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: and yeah they Yeah, I think they had the uh
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: maybe I might be confusing years, But didn't they have
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: the year? It wasn't that the year that Gunner had
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: like the punt returns against the Chargers Bowl A twenty
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: twenty It was two years ago. Okay, Yeah, so I
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: don't think they're special teams were a huge problem in
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty. I wonder, you know, I might be confusion
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: the year, I might have been nineteen. Like you know,
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: ouche pushing somebody after the whistle. That's a bad play.
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: That's that's just a stupid play. That could happen on
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: any play, not just special teams. But I wonder some
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: of the coverage breakdowns and wonder if Matthew Slater is
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: kind of seeing you know, the end. I wouldn't blame
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: it on Slater, but I don't know. Yeah. More importantly,
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: I don't like it when Paul's right, but Stevenson's more explosive, right,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Stevens is more explosive than Harris. But I would keep
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Harris to relieve some of Stevenson's workload. I think they
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: compliment each other as well, and you don't want Stevenson
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: to be run down by the end of his rookie contract. Yeah.
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: I think that's a good email. I agree with. I
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: think you can move to like to Stevenson without like
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: shelving Harris. I think Harris is a really good player. Yeah,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: I just think Stevens is a little better. But I
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: like the idea of having both of those guys available
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: to keep him around fifteen each. I mean, you know,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: talking about five that jump cut before he got hurt
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: on the game, Harris had a beautiful shift that just
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: left a defensive lineman on the ground. You know, yeah,
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: I mean I think you always need one two of
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: those guys. I mean, what I was kind of finding
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: myself thinking about was just the Corey Dillon year of
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: two thousand and four when and maybe you guys remember
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: this better than I do, but that that seems like
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: one of the last years where they really had like
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: a main back and just a third down guys, right, Like,
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: I mean, it was just kind of two guys as
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: opposed to three at least that they usually seem to
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: have run with since like you know, Falk and then Woodhead,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: et cetera. Yeah, they usually have two runners in a
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: third down guy. In that year, it was just Dylan
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: and a third down guy with Falk. But you know,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: I think the next wasn't it the next year or
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: was it two years? The Maroni pick two years two
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: thousand and six six? Many? Yeah, So, like Bill clearly
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: wasn't really comfortable with it. And then you know, much
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: like happens a lot, you give a guy like that
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: the contract and he's no longer as committed. And Dylan
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: had was really a one hit wonder. He was great No.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: Four and didn't really do much for year when O five,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: It's like it's more of a philosophical question. I guess
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: if just you see the outlandish production that Stevenson had
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: in that game, and like, you know, one hand, you say, well,
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: why can't we get that? I know you can't get
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: it out of him every game, but you know, like,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: why can't we give him twenty twenty five carries a game?
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: And you know, would he still be able to have
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: that production? What's the best thing for the team though?
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: You know, is it balancing the carries and then making
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: sure when you get to the playoffs, which of horse
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: is most important that those guys are fresh, or is
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: it you could have a guy on your hands that
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: could be you know, it just it's hard for me
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: to imagine a running back coming here of any style
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: or whatever and setting like the rushing record just by
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: how they play. And I don't know if that's necessarily
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: a bad thing. That might be just well, we're not
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: going to run our guy into the ground and then
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: we get into the playoffs and he's already tired. Um,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: it's just hard to look at that production that Stevenson
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: had and be like, can we get that every week?
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: You know how or even if it is two guys,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: you know, how can we how can we get that
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: kind of productive production consistently? But just interesting how they
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: how they kind of appeared. I like the you know,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: the idea of keeping them fresh. If I didn't have
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: to worry about the you know that aspect, I would
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: rather have one guy. But I think it's impossible to say, well,
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: I'm just gonna give all the carries to one guy
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: and he's going to be fine in the playoffs and
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: the and from the player's perspective, I mean, you know,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: like I know, you know, high school backs or everybody
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: wants the ball, but like, you know, in an NFL back,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: do you think if you really asked Damien Harris or
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: Romanda Stevenson, would you rather have fifteen, you know, ten
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: to ten to fifteen a game or would you rather
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: just consistently you're getting twenty five and you're gonna get
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: beat up, but you know you're getting the ball at time.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: And my guess is they'd both say twenty five Cody
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: and don't want that opportunity to put up the huge
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: numbers Cody in Indiana. For years we talked about how
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: challenging it was for young receivers to come in and
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: earn Brady's trust and grow into a role. One or
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: two wrong roots or a drop ball, and Brady would
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: just be done with you. Jakobe Myers has grown into
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: a good, solid NFL receiver, and I'm just wondering if
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: you'd think, um, he would still have developed into that
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: kind of player if Tom were still around quicker. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: a matter of fact, I think you saw Tom Brady
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: throw the ball to him that one year they played
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: together more often than he normally would so to a rookie,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: untested guy, yea, he would have been even better. Yeah. Um.
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: Matt from Santan Valley, Arizona, Santan Valley. I have a
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: statement and a question for everyone missing as a game.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: I gotta say that Bill Belichick can actually draft. The
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: last two Patriots draft classes have produced quality starters and contributors.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: Between Mac barm Or, Romandre Strange, the Jones brothers, they
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: have the foundation for the next Patriots dynasty. Now my
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: question is can we accurately define what roughing the passer is.
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: It's getting to the point where defenders aren't even allowed
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: to breathe on quarterbacks anymore. I was like, we're talking
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: about last night, what do you do? They gotta maybe
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: put some dresses on the guys in like the competition
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: committee that that's not going to play well. Oh, I know,
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: he was getting beat up pretty good on Twitter. Girl,
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: Come on, Alex and Raleigh a big fan of the show,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: thought the Patriots were dominant on Sunday. I hope they
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: start to rattle off some wins going forward, and I
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: think this team could be competitive this year. Judean has
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: been dominant and is tied as SACO leader with Parsons
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: and Crosby. Do you guys think jude you keep this
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: level of play consistent this year and not have the
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: drop off like he did last year. One thing that
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: I have noticed is that he hasn't seemed to be
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: on the field every play, which I think is a
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: direct since another one of those things. Don't look it up.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: It only ruins my point Mike's looking it up. Of course,
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: that might have had something to do with it blow out,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: but I don't know. It just seems like he's been
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: coming the field, don't you think? Yep? More so, and
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: you're getting some to Vay at the edge, You're getting
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: some Jennings at the edge, You're getting some Bentley at
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: the edge. And I gotta think there's at least uh
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: partially with in mind like trying to keep him. He
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: looks in healthier and fresher. He looks in real good
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: shape to me, though, like I I, it feels to
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: me I maybe have to go back and look at
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: what he looked like, but just it stands out to
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: me like he just seems like he's got burst start
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: to finish and and like I mentioned, I think last week,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: like just that closing speed, like he when he gets close,
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: he finishes, and he's he's been outstanding. Russell and Arkansas.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: Everyone has said how taekwon th doesn't have enough sand
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: and his parents or bumper and his dumper rocks in
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: his pockets. I have to say he's somewhat comparable in size,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: not talent yet to DeVante Smith and Fred's guy Justin Jefferson.
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: Would you guys agree DeVante Smith, Yes, not necessarily Justin Jefferson,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: but you could look those up and they could be
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: exactly the same in terms of height and weight. I'm
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: just telling is definitely smaller, but he's tiny. Yeah. When
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I watched Justin Jefferson, I never think small though, when
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: I watched Taekwon Thornton and Deane Smith, Yeah that's what
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I'm taller, but the same kind of thing. Yeah, let's
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: see what else we got. But Smith, definitely Smith. Remember
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: he was like one hundred and seventy five pounds or
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: something like that. Yeah, coming out he looks good this year.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Um Barton Poland writes in Bob, what a great team win.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: Especially impressed by our d line minus some big runs
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: given up against a top five old line in the league,
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: with Judon getting a sack each off of both of
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: the Lions tackles, one of the best duos in the league.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: Also very impressed by Zappie's ability to extend the play
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: and stay calm, especially the play against Hutchinson. I also
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: love the video podcast and I have a question is
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: there a schedule of them coming out because the two
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: video podcasts that we had this season, we're both the
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Thursdays before a home game. Um, is it coincidence or
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: if that's what's going to be for the rest of
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: the way, it's a coincidence probably, So I want to
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: give a homework assignment to that emailer, Can you please
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: email us back and we'll read it tomorrow. Why you
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: think that those shows are better? Why do you like them?
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: Why that's what you're saying. Why do you well, yeah,
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: why do you like? Why do you think they're better?
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: Why do you like? Because the video? Once? I'm just curious,
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Like you're listening to our podcast? What about just seeing
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: it makes it better? Right? Yeah? See the little the
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: little eyebroweries isn't a little yeah cleans and such? Yeah? See,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I I think that if you're gonna do the video,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: we got to add stuff to it. You know, we've
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: needed somebody in the back listening to what we're saying
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: and maybe throwing up some b roll, you know, maybe
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: doing what we call the l bar, we call it tagboard,
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: you know, with some the phone number and maybe some
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: facts or you know who's calling things like that. You know,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: there's gotta be some to me, there's gotta be production
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: value put into it to make it worth doing. You know,
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: I agree you're gonna do it otherwise like you're just
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: listening to us. Yeah, you know, I have a lot
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: of options. You could see Fred rolling his eyes at me.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: I mean, so you know, right now we're doing our
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: show and ninety eight point five assignmulcasting and you know
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: it's just them, but but there's a big difference. It's
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: on TV and there's advertising and that's why. But they
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: also do a lot of it. What you're talking they'll
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: put they'll put what's up there with stats of things
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: that they're talking about. Do some still shots that they
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: can't do b roll they're not allow to, right, but
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: but they'll do still but they'll do still shots, like
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: they'll have a picture of like Chris they were talking
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: earlier about the roughing the patch. They had Chris Jones
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: like with the ball in his hand as he's coming
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: down on Derek Carr last night. You know, like there's
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: something to see as opposed to just talking heads. I say,
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: the guys that whoever does the pre and postgame show
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: does an outstanding job, but especially the postgame show when
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: we're talking about stuff and they are like bad our
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: highlights and right, right, but we're yeah, but again, we're
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: allowed to do that, right, Yeah, is that just Patriots
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: dot Com is allowed to Yeah, we're allowed to do
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: and we'd be allowed to do it on this show too.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: You know, it's a little bit of draw you know,
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: so it is, but you know, now, okay, so you've
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: got to have somebody back there with the show prep
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: all of us. Yeah I didn't say that guy, So yeah,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: So I think that's a good homework assignment. Tell us
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: why what might you like to see? Like if there
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: are other elements and think ahead like after the initial
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: you know, right, because I'm not sure that we're able
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: to do all the things that we think that we
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: should do, like two weeks you know, if every show
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: was video, you know, two three weeks from now, would
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: you still be like interested in doing it? I could
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: see the guy saying that they were right? Or is
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: it more much? Or is it more a novelty too much?
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: You know? Old guys get out of here. Now. I
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: know a lot of other teams, you know, they do
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: their similar shows like that with video, but our numbers
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: dwarf them. So who's doing it better? Wow, there's only
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: one World's original podcast podcast I know. In all seriousness,
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: I just i'd like to hear, like, what what's the
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: attraction of just seeing instead of just hearing? Well, it's
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: just Mike sex appearance. It could be right. I mean
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: it could be out there my ladies. You know, people
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: just like seeing that middle aged dad, you know, thanks, yeah, guilty.
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: I want to see that dad bought stand up. I
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: don't think they want to see that. Connor Joseph Gourley
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: writes in Connor Joseph, I'm not listening live, so I
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: apologize if this was mentioned already, But in reference to
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: the Dan Campbell conversation from the postgame show, there was
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: about a twenty to thirty second clip on the Fox
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: broadcast of him fumbling with his play sheet, trying to
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: fold it or rearrange it or something, and it seemed
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: like a perfect representation of his tenure as head coach.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I couldn't help but laughing and feeling bad for the
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: guy at the same time because it was probably nothing
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: but just unfortunate timing. I'll tell you one thing about
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: this win. It allowed pages fans to go back to
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: do what they do best and rip the other coaching
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: staff like we're smart and they're stupid. You know, that's like,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: that's just the fans doing it. That's a twenty year
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: old habit that we got into, which was nice to
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: get back to. Yeah, I felt bad only for one thing. Like,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: you guys know what I think of Dan Campbell as
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: a coach, Like he seems like a hell of a
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: nice guy. But I don't think he even knows how
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: to spell x or rot. I don't think he's very
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: good at that stuff. I just like the whole fourth
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: Downd thing. He went for a fourth thound in the
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: first half that he absolutely would not have on fourth
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: and nine, Right, fourth and nine is not a it's
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: not a green light. You gotta kick the field goal
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: and make it six to three. By missing that, he
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: then had to do what he did the rest of
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: the day. He had to go chasing the next time
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: they got the ball in the second half, they were
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: down three scores. Field goals aren't going to get you
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: back in the game, so they could have lost twenty
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: nine to twelve. Would you feel better about it? Right?
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: I wouldn't. Yeah, Like, what else was he gonna do?
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: But I had like one text after the next Ooh,
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: how's the gritty tough coach doing now? Like had nothing
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: to do with grit on toughness. He made a bad
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: decision early in the game, and because of that he
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: ended up having to do everything else. In the second half. Right,
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: Like I like I said, I think he's a terrible coach.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Seems like a hell of a nice guy, good motivator
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: and all that, but I don't think he knows how
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: to prepare a team to play. James Pettigrew, the most
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: interesting Patriots fan of the world, writes in Bailey Zappi
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: or Jonas Gray? Oh come on, I don't even know
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: what he means by that. In terms of talent, he'd
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: probably going Jonas Great right game, I screwed on exactly. Yeah,
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: you know, notre Dame like he just he was just
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: a screw up. He really was. He couldn't you know,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: you talk about professionalism, He couldn't do what he needed
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: to do to be a professional. Right um, Bill and Albuquerque.
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: I'm definitely not on the Zappy train. But is he
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: right now better than any other starting quarterback in the league?
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: Oh so, I know I get what he's saying. He
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: is there other quarterbacks who Well, you did a good
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: job at deciphering that because I was still clueless. I
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: get what he means. Is he not the worst quarterback
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: in the league? Yeah? No, Skyler Thompson is right there
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: with him. Rookie seventh round, seventh round pick from Miami.
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: Um Justin Fields doesn't even he's not even allowed to
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: look at the field. Don't you look at that. I
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: don't want you looking at them when you're when you're playing.
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: But I mean, yeah, I mean, he's how many on
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: the bottom and I don't know what his numbers are.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: His numbers are probably outstanding. Yeah, like in terms of
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: the you know, the I don't feel about that. I
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: mean his rating, I mean his stats, not what they
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: interpret as what he should have done. Like, but yeah,
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: this quarterbacks that I mean, Baker Mayfield has been terrible.
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: Yeah right. I mean it's funny because I mean there's
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: quarterbacks that are definitely better than him, but that are stupider,
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: that make mistakes, like you know, like like, yeah, they're
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: gonna like Jamis Winston's gonna probably throw you a few touchdowns.
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: We've probably gonna throw a few picks too. But to me,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: the apples to apples remains what happens when he has
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: to play an actual game as opposed to where we're
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: gonna lead start to finish, our defense is going to
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: pitch a shout out and we're just gonna run for
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: two hundred yards today, Like what happens when it's not
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: like that? Yeah, that's what I found that. That's like
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: my bigger question about the Patriots, Like, you know, when
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: when are we gonna get a game that just looks like, man,
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: they ain't got it today. This team is rolling first
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: half and well we got to touchdown a second. Oh
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: another time, I was coming back. Oh, you know, I
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: was really insted with the win on Sunday, and that's
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: why in the postgame show I was no. I was like,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I don't think there were any asterisks. No, but in
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: the grand scheme of in the grand scheme of the season,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: I would say, I know they can win that game.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: I've seen them win that game. Now, well I'm twelve
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: times you know, like I said, they win all their
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: games with the same pattern. I was just, you know,
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: the same way I'm impressed with the Browns. I was
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: impressed with the Patriots yesterday and that they ran when
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: the other team knew they wanted to run. Eventually, they're
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: going to meet a team that can stop the run,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: you know, and then what happens that's going to adjust
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: to whatever they've got, you know, hopefully by then Max back.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: I'm not even saying stopping the run. I'm saying you
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: fall behind and can't run like Miami. Miami didn't really
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: stop the run earlier in the game. I thought the
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: Patriots ran the ball well yeah, but then they got
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: behind and they couldn't run as much as they wanted
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: to in the second half, right, And I think that's
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: why this game resonated though for me, is that I
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: think I was starting to question if they could still
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: win games like that with a third string quarterback. Where
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: all right, this is a bat like you know, we
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: knew coming in this think they were going to lose.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: This question a little bit when you saw those reds,
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: when you saw they we have to appear on seventeen
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: shows every week. I know he didn't pick the Patriots
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: to lose, but but it was but it was close game,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: you know. I mean I think I, like, not like
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: I had Patriots just gonna roll. This is ridiculous. And
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: I don't even think what with the Patriots favorite in
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: this game by three yeah, three and a half, and
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: I think I picked them to not cover I believe
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: yet you are right, yeah, uh as usual Pauli's write
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: says Chris with A T I A n Oh, come on,
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: just pour him on, pour him on in You're gonna
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: get it. He's gonna get ahead. But I don't know
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: what he means by this if Zappi's If Zapper's last
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: was playing, the fever would be much less. I think.
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: I don't know what. If Zappy wasn't his last name,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: the fever would be much less. Last names that hard
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: to but it says playing PLA I N anyway, however,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: anything for me. I figured it out. However, I'm enjoying
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: the hype. Chris Burman last night on the Fastest Three
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: Minutes and Highlights said, what's the saying in Foxborough Zappy Hour?
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: PS need more changes than on one of my headlines today.
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: PS need more junior perilla on the show. I know
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: that kid has plenty of zero to hot Paul stories. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: not so much with him. The other one would would
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: sell me out. Will would sell that. We would have
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: to drag him out here at two Will t TJ
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: would still worry about and then TJ would still worry
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: about it if I was really mad about it, whereas
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Will would be like, I don't really get it. Crop
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: if he thinks I'm mad at uh Andy in the
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: district says this is about the Raiders game last night.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Watching the game last night, I was dying to hear
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: what Paul thought of. The decision to go for two
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: makes little sense to me. Down one with over four
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: minutes to go. If you succeed on either the kick
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: or the conversion, Mahomes had the ball going for a
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: field goal for the win, pretty doable. Chiefs likely to
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: score again if you fail on either, Mahomes can just
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: run out the clock on a one point victory. What's
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: the thinking? Did Josh think his offense had no shot
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: of scoring again forced the Chiefs to go for a
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: TV rather than risk giving it back for a walkoff
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: Las Vegas field goal rooting for Josh. But yikes, Now
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: I actually liked it, And the reason is I feel like,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: if you get it, obviously you forced Kansas City to
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: go down and score while trailing, as opposed to in
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: a tie game, which I think is much less. Much
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: like Buffalo in Baltimore a couple of weeks ago, It's
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: much easier to me in a tie game to go
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: down and get the necessary points to win. Then if
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: you're losing, so I think that ups the pressure. I
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: agree there was probably a high likelihood that Kansas City
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: would have gone down to score. But the reason why
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: I liked the decision is because if you don't get it,
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: there's still four and a half minute left, you play
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: defense and have a chance to get the ball back.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: And now I think you have chances of stopping Kansas City.
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: You're much greater while trailing than they would be if
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: you were tied or winning, because Kansas City obviously isn't
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: going forward on fourth down. They're not recklessly trying to
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: get in scoring position. And sure enough they stopped him
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: and had plenty of time, and had Hunter Renfro not
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: torn Davante Adams as acl for some unknown reason just
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: diving into him, I think they might have had a
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: chance on that last Adams mad Did you see him
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: push the photographer? Yeah, if you think you'll get suspended
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: for that, you should. Yeah. I think there's a chance
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: they fired the guy filed the lawsuit. I think here,
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: well that's that. Like, I gotta be honest with you,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: I think it was all the guy's fault. Oh yeah,
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: the guy just blatantly walked right in front of him
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: and he knew exactly what he was doing, and that's
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: why I don't think there's any chance that I wonder
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: if he's even a little I wonder if the guy
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: worked for the Raiders like he pushed his own. You know. Anyway, quick,
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: I agree with you, Fred, I think he should get
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: at the very least a really big fine. But I
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: think you should get suspended. Yeah, um, quick, game of
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: who is he? Um? They're all Patriots to end the show. Um,
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: and this guy the way he did the last one
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: is a giveaway. So um, if if we get to
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: three year, you should get it. But anyway, First one,
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: I served as an adjunct professor for two years at
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: Suffolk University. Lawyer. I didn't know this, I jumped so okay.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: Second one, I was a mainstay on the second level
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: of defense for ten years. And then you should all
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: get the last one. I was a second round pick
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: out of Colorado Ted Johnson. I didn't know he was
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: an ad jump professor. I didn't either out I didn't either.
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: Next one, I served as the OC for the Texas
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: Revolution of the champions Indoor Football League. I've never heard
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: of that before. No, though, I caught Tom Brady's first
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: NFL pass, he did not receive a Super Bowl ring
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: due to off field issues. Well, the person. This person
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: didn't get a Super Bowl ring due to off field issues.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: I mean I thought Rod Rutledge caught Pee Brady's first
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: NFL pass. Oh, I'm sorry first NFL touchdown pass. I'm sorry,
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: Terry Terry, Terry Glenn yep. Yeah, um. I was a
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: six time pro bowler and my number is retired by
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: the team. Six time Pro bowler number retired by the team.
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: I played two hundred and twelve games, which was the
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: team record until Brady broke it in twenty fifteen. Julius Adams, No,
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: Bruce Armstrong. Bruce Armstrong is right, you broke a rule, Bule.
- 1:55:49Speaker 1: I'll go to box and feel shame. Last anymore. I'll
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: set this one up last one. I received a ton
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: of accolades, including two All pros, nine Pro Bowls, and
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: was Defensive Rookie of the Year in nineteen seventy six. Yes, Paul, Paul,
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: I have to sit it out. Yeah. Mike Canes, Yeah,
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: Mike Canes. Mike Canes is correct, all right, Maybe I
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: can take one more email? Okay, Audrey from New Hampshire
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: on our video question. I can tell you why the
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: video was valuable. You guys are thinking too much about
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: other examples. But to some of us, you are special,
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: longtime friends. It is simply happy to share the two
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: hours together, and having the option for video is nice.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't make it appointment viewing, but if I'm free,
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: I will tune in. I enjoy the show either way.
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: But you should realize PEU is unique and the family
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: of friends to this podcast is probably more dedicated than
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: you know. Perfect example, getting to see Paul's kid our
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: sure you wouldn't have been able to see him. Yeah,
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: and I would say our listeners I that characterization. That's
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: how I feel about it. It is like family. There's
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: a lot of long time, loyal people that listen to us,
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: and for that we're grateful. Yeah yeah, yeah, but then
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: but then we would but then we wouldn't get I
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: saw you guys in person, and you're not as fat
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: as I thought. Well, Freddy, you're not going to get
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: that anymore like wasting a way over. Let's go give
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: me a minute. Unfortunately, they still say it to me.
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: Everybody's fat as just they say. Now, Andy used to
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: make it out to me that I was so fat
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: that everybody, as everybody that met me was like, I
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: don't even know what and he's talking about but your head.
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: All right, that's gonna be it for this edition of
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. We'll be back tomorrow. As we turned the
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: page to the Cleveland Browns, Uh, talk to you then,
