- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey, Mets Camp today. Yes, you see the skyline on
- 0:10Speaker 1: this Mets stuff shirt loves Mets. Very nice. Thank sure,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm presenting nicely here, Okay, cool. Just wanted to let
- 0:21Speaker 1: everyone know for the podcast crowd, Mets upshop dot com
- 0:26Speaker 1: support our Mets Show. But today we are the Mets
- 0:28Speaker 1: Show FT at Metz Camp. Looking forward to chatting with
- 0:32Speaker 1: Boba Schett, Carlos Mendoza, Sean Manaya and perhaps some more
- 0:38Speaker 1: friends will join us as well. Scotty Brown, Aerocrats Aj Prazinski.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We're gonna get into the WBC in a moment on
- 0:45Speaker 1: the Team USA side before we do. I think the
- 0:50Speaker 1: Dominican Republic Exhibition game stole the show last night. Guys.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It's like Junior Caminero, Juan Soto, Homers and you would
- 0:59Speaker 1: think that a world series was one. And I'm not
- 1:02Speaker 1: saying it to make fun of it. I'm saying I'm
- 1:05Speaker 1: all for it. Inject that energy into my veins. It's
- 1:10Speaker 1: so damn good. And we actually I think have a
- 1:13Speaker 1: little clip from the press box which even has a
- 1:16Speaker 1: different vibe to it out there. That's Cody staven Hagen.
- 1:31Speaker 1: We're showing right now from Tiger Territory and the athletic
- 1:34Speaker 1: covering this matchup AJ and experiencing a little bit of
- 1:39Speaker 1: a party. There might have been some shots ripped in
- 1:42Speaker 1: the press box last night.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It looks a little uncomfortable. I'm not gonna lie. It
- 1:46Speaker 2: looks like he's not in his comfort zone right there,
- 1:48Speaker 2: which is fine. But I was wondering did they throw confetti?
- 1:51Speaker 2: Because I saw the home runs and those are some
- 1:53Speaker 2: long trots. The crowd was going crazy, which is awesome
- 1:57Speaker 2: about this whole thing, which is why we love the
- 2:00Speaker 2: WBC because the crowds of players get into it all
- 2:02Speaker 2: that stuff. But yeah, Cody didn't look like he was
- 2:05Speaker 2: in his comfort zone. Looked like he might.
- 2:06Speaker 3: He just got outside of it by just a little bit.
- 2:09Speaker 3: I thought they captured it so well, the winter ball environment.
- 2:13Speaker 4: I was.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I was able to like talk to my kids about it,
- 2:16Speaker 3: like it was so awesome, Like these are dudes that
- 2:18Speaker 3: don't come back.
- 2:19Speaker 5: A lot of stars come back.
- 2:20Speaker 3: And play in winter Ball December, maybe even in the
- 2:24Speaker 3: playoffs in January. But then they cut it off like
- 2:27Speaker 3: now these guys, Juan Soto man, he you know, he's
- 2:31Speaker 3: played for US before. And Kutel Marte was out there
- 2:35Speaker 3: Vladdie was out there. These guys rarely come back and play.
- 2:38Speaker 3: So for the DR fans, for the Dominican Republic fans,
- 2:43Speaker 3: it doesn't matter what team it is, they are all
- 2:45Speaker 3: out there and this is this was must see event
- 2:49Speaker 3: for the DR.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it looked awesome and it's a little precursor of
- 2:54Speaker 1: what we're going to get over the course of the
- 2:56Speaker 1: World Baseball Classics. So let's dive into it with Charge's
- 3:02Speaker 1: charging about Yeah, we're charging the mound and it's presented
- 3:07Speaker 1: by our friends over at Fox one. The Fox one
- 3:10Speaker 1: app should be very popular. You're gonna hear a lot
- 3:13Speaker 1: about it because you should be looking into it to
- 3:16Speaker 1: get all of your World Baseball Classic coverage. I'm talking
- 3:19Speaker 1: about every single live game from March fourth to the seventeenth,
- 3:23Speaker 1: which is the day of the title game. More information
- 3:25Speaker 1: after we chat about the World Baseball Classic Team USA
- 3:30Speaker 1: starting rotation and the continuing journey that we have in
- 3:34Speaker 1: terms of learning what this is going to look like.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So it sounds like a j Nolan McLain would pitch
- 3:40Speaker 1: in the title game if USA gets there. Now we'll
- 3:44Speaker 1: talk to Carlos Mendoza later about McLean, but he did
- 3:47Speaker 1: experience vertigo symptoms. I think from in near infection it
- 3:50Speaker 1: sounds like he's going to be okay. But that's putting
- 3:52Speaker 1: a lot on a guy who hasn't pitched a full
- 3:55Speaker 1: season in the BIGS, and there are some other big
- 3:57Speaker 1: names there. So I want to dive right into what
- 3:59Speaker 1: I think is a bit controversial if it becomes a problem.
- 4:03Speaker 1: It looks like from the article I read from Ken Rosenthal,
- 4:06Speaker 1: who also will be joining us later, Paul Skeens could
- 4:10Speaker 1: have pitched a different game that would have enabled him
- 4:13Speaker 1: to pitch in the title game. He just doesn't want
- 4:15Speaker 1: to do a seven day layoff, and that's fair. Four works,
- 4:19Speaker 1: five works, six works. He's trying to be as flexible
- 4:22Speaker 1: as possible, but also prepare himself for the season. If
- 4:26Speaker 1: Trek Scouble, who only is giving one outing in about
- 4:29Speaker 1: fifty five pitches, pitched in a different game against Mexico,
- 4:34Speaker 1: that would have enabled Skeens to pitch against Italy and
- 4:37Speaker 1: then again on six days rest in the final, why
- 4:41Speaker 1: aren't they doing that. I didn't get the full explanation,
- 4:44Speaker 1: but in Ken's article, aj Mark de Rosa just says
- 4:48Speaker 1: they went the other route with Schooble pitching against Great Britain.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Well, first of all, there's a couple things to play.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I don't know how their schedules line up for their
- 4:58Speaker 2: opening days, so maybe had something to do with it. Remember,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you're fighting teams here. Also, you're not just the guys.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Can't just pick their schedule. They have to line up
- 5:06Speaker 2: for their season opener. I'm very happy Trek Scooble is
- 5:09Speaker 2: pitching against Great Britain because I'm calling that game. So
- 5:11Speaker 2: I am like, yes, I get Trek scouble for fifty
- 5:14Speaker 2: five pitches that could be three to four innings, so
- 5:16Speaker 2: we could talk about how great Trek Scooble is on
- 5:18Speaker 2: and off the field. Why they didn't do that, I
- 5:21Speaker 2: don't know. But listen, I love McClain going in there
- 5:24Speaker 2: if they get to the finals and pitch. And we
- 5:26Speaker 2: watched this guy pitch big games for the Mets last year.
- 5:28Speaker 2: The Mets aren't a small market. They were fighting for
- 5:30Speaker 2: their playoff lives, and he went out there and pitched
- 5:33Speaker 2: really well. And if I'm Carlos Mendoza, who will speak
- 5:35Speaker 2: to you later, I love this. It gets him more experience,
- 5:38Speaker 2: it puts him on one of the biggest stages you
- 5:40Speaker 2: could pitch on. And if you got to start the
- 5:41Speaker 2: finals against who was at Venezuela, Dominican in Japan, whoever
- 5:45Speaker 2: they could play in these finals, that's a pretty big deal.
- 5:48Speaker 2: And it'll get his adrenaline flowing, It'll get him used
- 5:51Speaker 2: to the big stage. He's gonna have to do interviews
- 5:53Speaker 2: and all that. So I think this is a great thing.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Would you love to have Schemes or Schooble or logan Web. Absolutely,
- 5:58Speaker 2: But you also got to think about the teams because
- 6:00Speaker 2: logan Web's team starts a day earlier than everybody else
- 6:03Speaker 2: for the regular season, so they had to adjust his
- 6:05Speaker 2: schedule to where he lines up for opening day. Right.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Schemes in schoobl might be a day or two later,
- 6:11Speaker 2: so you have to line everything up so it also
- 6:14Speaker 2: gets them ready for the regular season.
- 6:17Speaker 3: We're supremely focused on the final. There's no final if
- 6:21Speaker 3: you don't get there. And when you're playing tournament baseball.
- 6:24Speaker 3: When I played for Team USA, these are discussions that
- 6:28Speaker 3: I was privy to be a part of because like, hey,
- 6:32Speaker 3: what do you think it takes. You're not leaving chop
- 6:36Speaker 3: liver for the finals. This isn't like a kid's travel
- 6:38Speaker 3: ball tournament where you're like, oh, if we can just
- 6:41Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna run out of pitching at the end.
- 6:43Speaker 3: They still have Nolan McLean pitching in the finals. That
- 6:46Speaker 3: is awesome. You have to fight, like Aj said, all
- 6:50Speaker 3: the different scheduling and everything. But to me, you don't
- 6:53Speaker 3: get to the finals if you don't throw Logan Web,
- 6:56Speaker 3: if you don't throw Paul schemes in those games, If
- 7:00Speaker 3: you save Paul Skans for the finals and Nolan McClain
- 7:04Speaker 3: doesn't do well in the semi finals, there's no finals.
- 7:08Speaker 3: So to me, you throw the guys in the best
- 7:12Speaker 3: scenario possible for each of their seasons, clearly. But then
- 7:16Speaker 3: also the quarterfinal game is going to be just as
- 7:19Speaker 3: tough as the final. The semi final game is going
- 7:21Speaker 3: to be just as tough as the finals. So to me,
- 7:24Speaker 3: you got to win those games, and if it works
- 7:26Speaker 3: out with their schedules, I have no problem with this
- 7:29Speaker 3: at all.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Okay, So we'd have Logan Web pitching in the quarterfinals
- 7:34Speaker 1: for USA skiings in the semis and then Nolan McLain
- 7:38Speaker 1: in the final. There's a chance Joe Ryan could be
- 7:41Speaker 1: used in the final as well. It sounds like he's
- 7:45Speaker 1: more of an emergency situation. They still have to see
- 7:47Speaker 1: how the back recovery goes. What we do know is
- 7:49Speaker 1: teams can add four pitchers after pool play and then
- 7:52Speaker 1: two more pitchers after the quarterfinals. So the pitcher pool
- 7:56Speaker 1: includes Joe Ryan for Team USA, Strom, Tyler Rogers, and
- 8:03Speaker 1: Will Vest among the pitchers in the pool. There could
- 8:07Speaker 1: be more.
- 8:07Speaker 2: So those are some n Tyler Rogers, Tyler Rodgers the
- 8:11Speaker 2: right of the lefty.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Everybody gets confused. Tyler Rogers is the rich one on
- 8:16Speaker 1: the Blue Jays, now right, right, that's true. Yeah, they're
- 8:23Speaker 1: pretty close in career earnings. Tyler Rogers is currently the
- 8:27Speaker 1: high paid man on the high paid twin on the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Blue Jays who signed this offseason. Yeah, your side arm
- 8:33Speaker 1: extraordinary who was a very hot number as a free agent.
- 8:38Speaker 1: And that gives you a very different look out of
- 8:40Speaker 1: your bullpen. Aj Will Best would be nice to add
- 8:43Speaker 1: to the bullpen, and so would Matt Strom later on
- 8:45Speaker 1: in this tournament.
- 8:46Speaker 2: I mean, if you go Yarborough throwing from over here
- 8:48Speaker 2: and then Rogers throwing from over here, you go from
- 8:52Speaker 2: here to here, that's pretty big difference they have. And
- 8:55Speaker 2: Strom's pitching big games with the best pitching huge games
- 8:58Speaker 2: for the Tigers last year, Joe Ryan would be a
- 9:01Speaker 2: great starter. I think once you get to the finals,
- 9:03Speaker 2: then you bring in your two extra guys and you
- 9:05Speaker 2: say we're just gonna use Johnny Hoolstaff and piece this
- 9:08Speaker 2: together with whoever's left. So I think this is a
- 9:11Speaker 2: great thing. I think it's a great tournament and I
- 9:14Speaker 2: just can't wait to get it started tonight on Fox
- 9:17Speaker 2: one at ten o'clock. Who was at Type AI in Australia.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I might actually have to stay up to ten o'clock
- 9:22Speaker 2: to watch this.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Ay, j would you rather have funk like you're talking
- 9:25Speaker 3: about all the funk of Tyler Rogers, matt Strom Yarborough,
- 9:29Speaker 3: or would you rather have what the Dominican through out
- 9:31Speaker 3: there last night? A hundred from the left side, a
- 9:33Speaker 3: hundred from the right side.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Well, you always take stuff over funk, But at the
- 9:38Speaker 2: same time, funk can just be just as effective because
- 9:41Speaker 2: guys don't see it all the time. What do you
- 9:42Speaker 2: think Rogers was such a commodity? Why do you think
- 9:45Speaker 2: matt Strom and Yarboro have stuck around for so long
- 9:48Speaker 2: because they have different angles and different stuff and different
- 9:50Speaker 2: things they're good at. So I love funk. I mean,
- 9:53Speaker 2: you always take stuff over funk, but sometimes stuff gets
- 9:56Speaker 2: hit and funk doesn't. So don't you know what's it?
- 9:59Speaker 3: Don't fake the funkunk on a nasty dunk, you know, like,
- 10:01Speaker 3: so don't let's not mess with the funk.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Hey, you want funk. The Team USA lineup was rolled
- 10:10Speaker 1: out for their exhibition against the San Francisco Giants, and
- 10:14Speaker 1: I felt bad for Adrian Hawser to start the game.
- 10:17Speaker 1: There was a lot of action against him, and it
- 10:19Speaker 1: wasn't just him. I mean they consistently were putting up
- 10:23Speaker 1: runs over the course of that game, adding up to
- 10:25Speaker 1: fifteen total. It's an exhibition game, but the lineup looks
- 10:29Speaker 1: pretty good. I think one thing is pretty legit and
- 10:32Speaker 1: fair to say, aj there have been really good players
- 10:35Speaker 1: for Team USA. Position player wise. It's gotten better as
- 10:37Speaker 1: we go, but now we're really at a status where
- 10:40Speaker 1: this should be their best lineup ever.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, this lineup, this whole team is really good. You
- 10:48Speaker 2: see the importance, especially in the United States, of how
- 10:50Speaker 2: this is growing every year every time they do the
- 10:53Speaker 2: WBC because more and more stars want to jump on board.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Last year, Mike trow is the captain this Sharon Judge
- 10:58Speaker 2: is the captain. You get Skien, you get School, you
- 11:00Speaker 2: get Logan Web, three of the best pitchers in the planet.
- 11:03Speaker 2: And then you get the lineup with cal Rawley and
- 11:06Speaker 2: Harper and Schwarber and Judge and all these unbelievable superstars
- 11:10Speaker 2: from their teams coming together trying to win this thing
- 11:13Speaker 2: for USA. So it just shows you the importance and
- 11:15Speaker 2: how much guys love this event and how much they
- 11:17Speaker 2: want to win this event. But then also you get
- 11:19Speaker 2: all the other countries. Dominican we talked about, Japan has
- 11:22Speaker 2: won this thing three times. Korea is really good at
- 11:25Speaker 2: this Venezuela can be really good in this tournament. Italy
- 11:28Speaker 2: is better. I think the people think the only thing
- 11:30Speaker 2: we're missing, guys is a team Poland, because can you
- 11:33Speaker 2: imagine how good Team Poland would be if we could
- 11:35Speaker 2: get all the Pollocks together to challenge USA.
- 11:37Speaker 1: If we get you to come out of retirement, that
- 11:40Speaker 1: would be lovely.
- 11:41Speaker 2: But instead, I'll get my I'll get my son to play,
- 11:45Speaker 2: not me, I'll get my son to play forget me. Austin,
- 11:49Speaker 2: Oh no, thank you, no, thank you.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I saw that stuff coming out of Dominican bullpen last night.
- 11:58Speaker 5: No thanks it anymore exactly.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Hey, you will be able to listen to AJ and

- 12:32Speaker 1: complete terms and conditions. Fox one streaming Now it's the
- 12:41Speaker 1: Inside Scoop with FT senior insider Ken Rosenthal. Ken, let's
- 12:44Speaker 1: get right to the ped suspensions. We don't hear about
- 12:47Speaker 1: them very often these days, but when we do, we
- 12:50Speaker 1: got to hammer this. So Jerks and PROFI up first.
- 12:52Speaker 1: This is number two, one hundred and sixty two games.
- 12:55Speaker 1: But there's an appeal process going on right now.
- 12:58Speaker 4: There is, and it's kind of common implicated to explain.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Scott and I don't know that it's going to be successful,
- 13:03Speaker 4: but usually with a first time offender of the Joint
- 13:07Speaker 4: Trug Policy, we don't hear about an appeal. We just
- 13:10Speaker 4: hear the announcement, and at that point the appeal has
- 13:13Speaker 4: been heard with a player accused of violating the policy
- 13:17Speaker 4: a second time. Like PROFAR is, they can make the
- 13:21Speaker 4: announcement they being major League Baseball right away and not
- 13:25Speaker 4: have what they call a stay a delay in the process.
- 13:28Speaker 4: They can simply go forward with it and then the
- 13:31Speaker 4: appeal gets hurt. It's going to be expedited. I imagine
- 13:34Speaker 4: it will be in the next couple of days. But
- 13:37Speaker 4: that's why this got public before the appeal was heard.
- 13:40Speaker 4: So there is an appeal. They are fighting this the
- 13:42Speaker 4: Players Association on behalf of PROFAR. Where it goes from here,
- 13:46Speaker 4: I don't know. But at the same time, that's why
- 13:50Speaker 4: this was a little bit different than usual. When the
- 13:52Speaker 4: announcement is usually made, it's all done, the appeal's done,
- 13:56Speaker 4: everything's done. In this case, the announcement came without that stay,
- 14:00Speaker 4: that delay, and now they go forward.
- 14:03Speaker 3: How does this get out? Can that's go ahead? How
- 14:07Speaker 3: does this get out?
- 14:07Speaker 2: Can? Because I thought this was all supposed to be
- 14:09Speaker 2: secret until it was finished. The team's not supposed to know.
- 14:12Speaker 2: No one's supposed to know except for I think the player, right,
- 14:15Speaker 2: So how does this get out before this process is done.
- 14:18Speaker 2: And then with Rojas, isn't it the same thing, Like
- 14:21Speaker 2: he's not officially suspended, but it got out. So how
- 14:24Speaker 2: did these things get out if it's not. If it's not,
- 14:27Speaker 2: it's clearly not from the PA because they don't know.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So there has to be a leak somewhere in the
- 14:32Speaker 2: MLB offices to let this get out before it's done.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Ange, I didn't break this story, so I can't tell
- 14:37Speaker 4: you for sure how it got out, and even to
- 14:40Speaker 4: speculate would be wrong to do because as a reporter,
- 14:44Speaker 4: I know that we find out things in all different
- 14:46Speaker 4: ways and it's not always what people think. So I
- 14:50Speaker 4: would imagine that in party got out because of the process.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I just explained it.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Was going to get out even before the appeal. This
- 14:57Speaker 4: had been a decision that was essentially made. They were
- 15:00Speaker 4: going to suspend him for a second violation and didn't
- 15:04Speaker 4: have to wait for the appeal to be heard. So
- 15:07Speaker 4: as for that and what the Players Association might feel
- 15:10Speaker 4: about that, I don't know, But I'm not going to
- 15:13Speaker 4: speculate or even begin to think about how it got out.
- 15:16Speaker 5: I'm not sure.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Do you have any idea what the appeal like on
- 15:20Speaker 3: what grounds of appeal, because they usually do before they
- 15:23Speaker 3: have a test.
- 15:24Speaker 5: Positive test, don't go further, don't go further.
- 15:27Speaker 4: I don't know what the grounds of the appeal are.
- 15:29Speaker 4: I don't know what exactly they are bothered by. Is
- 15:34Speaker 4: it the test itself? Is it something with the test?
- 15:37Speaker 1: Is it the.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I don't know. It's probably the test. I would think
- 15:41Speaker 4: it has to be the test, and they're disputing the
- 15:44Speaker 4: result of the test. So that is what leads to
- 15:47Speaker 4: the discipline, the results of the test. I imagine that's
- 15:49Speaker 4: what it is, but I don't know exactly where that
- 15:52Speaker 4: comes from.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Where that stands ken. Where do the Braves go from here?
- 15:58Speaker 1: I know profar wasn't with the fact that he was
- 16:01Speaker 1: going to get a good chunk of DH time. Luckily
- 16:03Speaker 1: they did sign your strum Ski. So where do they
- 16:05Speaker 1: go from here? Offense? And again the question is going
- 16:08Speaker 1: to come up from fans, Hey, you're going to save
- 16:11Speaker 1: eighteen million dollars reported with the luxury techs money that
- 16:14Speaker 1: they'd have to pay added on.
- 16:16Speaker 4: So what do you think I would expect they would
- 16:19Speaker 4: get another outfielder, either through trade or free agency. Tommy
- 16:22Speaker 4: fam is out there as a free agent. Still, you
- 16:26Speaker 4: also have guys on minor league deals around the game.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Randall Gritchick is won, for instance, if he's not going
- 16:31Speaker 4: to make the Yankees, maybe he becomes available. Then you
- 16:35Speaker 4: have in Mets camp Mike Taalkman. He probably hasn't out
- 16:38Speaker 4: as well. I'm just throwing names out there. These are
- 16:40Speaker 4: guys not on major league deals. You may be able
- 16:43Speaker 4: to get them. Talkman might very well make the Mets.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You're there today. He's competing with Carson Benje and it's
- 16:47Speaker 4: an open competition. But there are avenues to pursue. And
- 16:51Speaker 4: also we've talked about this at length. They still need
- 16:54Speaker 4: a starting pitcher and now they have increased financial flexibility
- 16:58Speaker 4: if they want to go sign Lucas.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Or Zach Lttel.
- 17:01Speaker 4: And it would seem to me that it would behoove
- 17:04Speaker 4: them to do both those things. And it's funny you
- 17:07Speaker 4: mentioned Profar not seeming to be happy about being a
- 17:10Speaker 4: d Age. At least in his public comments. He had
- 17:12Speaker 4: told the Braves he was fine with it. He should
- 17:16Speaker 4: have been worried about other things.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Put it that way, what about Johann Rojas, how because
- 17:21Speaker 3: he wasn't going to be a starter for the Phillies.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Do you see the Phillies making them move in a
- 17:26Speaker 3: lesser mode or do you see them still saying, Okay,
- 17:29Speaker 3: we have a spot to fill.
- 17:30Speaker 5: We can make a big trade for an outfielder.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Oh. I don't know they're going to make a big
- 17:34Speaker 4: trade based on this news. They were going to play
- 17:36Speaker 4: Justin Crawford in centerfield. That was their plan from the beginning.
- 17:40Speaker 4: I don't know that this really changes anything for them.
- 17:43Speaker 4: They too, of course, could add to their depth out there.
- 17:46Speaker 4: They're down one. But a major trade for a center
- 17:49Speaker 4: field or at this stage of spring training, so close
- 17:52Speaker 4: to opening day, that is unlikely to happen. I will
- 17:55Speaker 4: never say never, but I would expect that that would
- 17:58Speaker 4: not be the case.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Ben, You're gonna be a WBC with me? Correct, Wow,
- 18:04Speaker 2: we get to work together. I'm so honored. What are
- 18:08Speaker 2: you thinking about this Usafeteam? What are you thinking about
- 18:12Speaker 2: the USA team? Is this the best roster of talent
- 18:15Speaker 2: ever assembled on one team?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Aj?
- 18:17Speaker 4: First of all, the honor is mine?
- 18:19Speaker 2: True? That's true. That actually is the truest thing you
- 18:22Speaker 2: probably have ever.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Said in your life.
- 18:23Speaker 4: As far as the best roster ever assembled, I would
- 18:25Speaker 4: say the best US roster for sure, But I would
- 18:28Speaker 4: encourage you, Aj, because you're a man of worldly views,
- 18:32Speaker 4: to examine the Dominican Republic's roster because it's pretty unbelievable
- 18:36Speaker 4: and as good as the US looked yesterday fifteen to
- 18:39Speaker 4: one over the San Francisco Giants, and it was every
- 18:43Speaker 4: bit that the Dominican offense is going.
- 18:45Speaker 1: To be crazy too.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Japan is always going to be competitive in this tournament.
- 18:50Speaker 4: That's just the nature of it. That's what has happened
- 18:52Speaker 4: over the years. Those three, I expect would be the
- 18:55Speaker 4: best teams in this the favorites Venezuela will also be good,
- 18:59Speaker 4: Mexico will be good good. I'm sure we'll see other
- 19:02Speaker 4: teams Baby jump out. We've seen this in the past.
- 19:04Speaker 4: But the Dominican roster Flad Junior, Tatis Soto, Marte Perdomo,
- 19:12Speaker 4: Julio Rodriguez and on. You can say, Okay, who's gonna
- 19:16Speaker 4: pitch Not maybe as strong as you would like, but
- 19:20Speaker 4: it's not bad. It's Severino Bao al Contra and at
- 19:24Speaker 4: the top Christopher Sanchez. So if I was picking a favorite,
- 19:28Speaker 4: I don't know that I would pick the US over
- 19:30Speaker 4: the Dominican Republic. Both teams look really really good.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Ken, can we go over the pitching plans. You wrote
- 19:37Speaker 1: about this in The Athletic yesterday, and as you're explaining it,
- 19:40Speaker 1: the one question I did have was why DeRosa decided
- 19:44Speaker 1: to go with Skins in the semi final versus the final.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And I did feel like I get what krat said.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Kratz basically explain, Hey, you got to get there first.
- 19:52Speaker 1: But also, isn't Derek Scooble more valuable pitching against Mexico
- 19:56Speaker 1: than Great Britain? I feel like the US is gonna
- 19:58Speaker 1: be okay against the Brits well.
- 20:02Speaker 4: As I wrote, when it comes to pitching plans for
- 20:05Speaker 4: the WBC, logic is part of the equation, but only part,
- 20:09Speaker 4: and keeping starting pictures on their routines their schedules is
- 20:14Speaker 4: an equally important, if not more important part, because, as
- 20:17Speaker 4: Mark de Rosa said to me yesterday, these guys, the
- 20:20Speaker 4: pitchers are already manipulating their schedules. You have to be
- 20:24Speaker 4: as respectful to them. You have to honor them as
- 20:26Speaker 4: much as you possibly can. And the way this lined up,
- 20:29Speaker 4: and I explained it the story better than I'm going
- 20:31Speaker 4: to explain it here, I'm sure I hope so anyway
- 20:34Speaker 4: that Skeins he really wanted to pitch on either four
- 20:39Speaker 4: days rest or five days rest, and he said he'd
- 20:42Speaker 4: be willing to pitch on six days rest. He said
- 20:44Speaker 4: he'd really be willing to do anything but to pitch
- 20:47Speaker 4: against Mexico as he is scheduled to do, and then
- 20:50Speaker 4: pitch in the final. That would be seven days rest.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And DeRosa said, no, too much. It takes him out
- 20:54Speaker 4: of his routine. Again, we're going to respect the pitcher. Now,
- 20:58Speaker 4: how could scoople have changed this? Schooble If he had
- 21:01Speaker 4: pitched against Mexico on again extended rest, I believe it
- 21:05Speaker 4: would have been seven days, then Skeens could have lined
- 21:07Speaker 4: up for the next game against Italy and lined up
- 21:10Speaker 4: for the championship game. But it just didn't fall that
- 21:13Speaker 4: way because of the different schedules these pitchers are on.
- 21:16Speaker 4: And that is why at this point you're looking at
- 21:20Speaker 4: should they advance Logan Web in the quarterfinal, Skians in
- 21:23Speaker 4: the semifinal, and then Nolan McLain from the New York Mets,
- 21:26Speaker 4: the rookie who's coming off a little bit of a
- 21:28Speaker 4: vertigo situation. He is scheduled to pitch the final and
- 21:32Speaker 4: as DeRosa explained to me yesterday, they will swap out pitchers.
- 21:36Speaker 4: After the pool play they can add four, and after
- 21:40Speaker 4: the quarterfinal they can add two more. And when I
- 21:43Speaker 4: say add, exchange is what I'm talking about. So we're
- 21:46Speaker 4: gonna see different faces in the knockout round than we
- 21:49Speaker 4: see in the pool play round, particularly in the bullpen.
- 21:53Speaker 4: There are three names that he mentioned to me that
- 21:56Speaker 4: are on the designated pitcher pool that's kind of an
- 22:01Speaker 4: alternate roster. It's Tyler, Rogers, will Vest and Matt Strom.
- 22:04Speaker 4: They will likely be added others removed for the knockout round,
- 22:09Speaker 4: should again the US advance.
- 22:12Speaker 2: And how come we only talk about this with the USA.
- 22:15Speaker 2: We're not talking about the pitchers lining up for the
- 22:17Speaker 2: Dominican We're not pitcher talking about pitchers lining up for
- 22:20Speaker 2: Japan or any of the other favorite teams. Is it
- 22:23Speaker 2: just because we maybe know the names a little bit better?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Why are we not? Everyone's like, oh, Schemes isn't going
- 22:29Speaker 2: to pitch the final? Well, how do the Dominican lineup?
- 22:31Speaker 2: Because they have the same problems, right, Japan has the
- 22:34Speaker 2: same issues. Where's Yamamoto gonna pitch? Right? So how come
- 22:38Speaker 2: we're just talking about the USA, not the other teams,
- 22:40Speaker 2: also because the other teams have to pitch too.
- 22:42Speaker 4: AJ. The only way I can answer that is because
- 22:45Speaker 4: right now I'm covering Team USA. I'm not covering those
- 22:47Speaker 4: other teams, and I haven't delved into it the same
- 22:50Speaker 4: way I have with Team USA. I would imagine, Yes,
- 22:54Speaker 4: you're right that the other teams are running into similar issues.
- 22:58Speaker 4: All teams that have made league players run into these
- 23:02Speaker 4: issues because the Major league teams have influence here, or
- 23:05Speaker 4: at least try to have influence. They have in some
- 23:08Speaker 4: cases the ability or the inclination to set conditions on
- 23:13Speaker 4: how their players can be used, pitchers in particular, and
- 23:16Speaker 4: it does affect things. We learned this in the last WBC.
- 23:19Speaker 4: We've learned that actually every WBC now guys want to
- 23:23Speaker 4: play more than they did in the past now, and
- 23:25Speaker 4: that's a great thing and for all and any criticism
- 23:29Speaker 4: school has received. My goodness, this guy is entering his
- 23:32Speaker 4: free agent year. This guy, there's no way he would
- 23:34Speaker 4: have pitched in this thing twenty three in seventeen. Players
- 23:37Speaker 4: want to be a part of it, and that's the
- 23:40Speaker 4: extent he can be a.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Part of it.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Okay, they'll take it so it's one of these things.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Now again, I have not looked at the Dominican Republic
- 23:48Speaker 4: rotation or the japan rotation as extensively as I've looked
- 23:51Speaker 4: at Team USA, But just off the top of my head, AJ,
- 23:55Speaker 4: I would imagine they're running into the same things.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Ken. You know, we have Brazil on Friday night. Right,
- 24:00Speaker 2: who's pitching for Brazil on Friday Night?
- 24:02Speaker 4: I do not know yet, aj can Ken.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Can't be so one sided and these things.
- 24:09Speaker 1: He's doing that.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Scott, it's Wednesday and he's asking me about Friday. We
- 24:12Speaker 4: got Wednesday, check into Thursday, then get to Friday, and
- 24:17Speaker 4: aj A, you on the Friday.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Broadcast, I am and Saturday, all right, we'll.
- 24:21Speaker 4: Be ready for both games.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Okay, we'll be ready.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Okay, because I hope Joseph. I hope Joseph Contrera's pitches,
- 24:26Speaker 2: because he does. It'd be kind of cold to broadcast,
- 24:30Speaker 2: you know, the son of a guy who played for
- 24:33Speaker 2: for a long time. It'd be awesome. He's in high school.
- 24:35Speaker 2: This guy's in high school throwing ninety five and hopefully
- 24:38Speaker 2: you know, he goes and pitches against USA and well
- 24:41Speaker 2: baseball class. It would be pretty incredible for those who.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Might not know what AJ's talking about, because I don't
- 24:46Speaker 4: think he gave you a frame of reference there. Joseph
- 24:48Speaker 4: Contreras is the son of Jose Contreras, AJ's former teammate
- 24:52Speaker 4: with the White Sox. He is nineteen, he's committed to Vanderbilt.
- 24:55Speaker 4: And because his mom, I believe, grew up in Brazil,
- 25:00Speaker 4: she was fifteen years old, she's Brazilian. He is pitching
- 25:02Speaker 4: for Brazil in this tournament. I actually met him the
- 25:05Speaker 4: other night. We were on the same flight from Atlanta together,
- 25:07Speaker 4: and it would be really cool, yes, to see him
- 25:09Speaker 4: pitch against the US. That's the extent of my Brazilian preparation.
- 25:13Speaker 5: So far, Aj.
- 25:14Speaker 4: But again, two days remain until the first pitch is thrown.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Ken, let's finish with this. Were you at the exhibition yesterday?
- 25:23Speaker 5: Yes?
- 25:23Speaker 1: The exhibition?
- 25:24Speaker 5: Yes?
- 25:24Speaker 1: Okay, So what was it like just for people to
- 25:28Speaker 1: watch all of those superstars in one spot, many future
- 25:31Speaker 1: Hall of famers playing together. That's part of the really
- 25:34Speaker 1: cool aspects here is that you get to see that
- 25:37Speaker 1: as well, and like who looks like a leader, and
- 25:39Speaker 1: just how they all mesh together.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Absolutely, and one thing DeRose has made a point of
- 25:45Speaker 4: really going back to January and even before, he has
- 25:49Speaker 4: wanted to put a team together that is a team
- 25:52Speaker 4: that is cohesive, that is together. Now. I know fans
- 25:54Speaker 4: sometimes say stuff is doesn't matter, it's all bunk. You
- 25:58Speaker 4: can't measure it.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Well.
- 26:00Speaker 4: The entire team stayed for the entire game in uniform
- 26:03Speaker 4: in the dugout yesterday. That's something you don't see in
- 26:05Speaker 4: spring training, and that to DeRosa spoke volumes. It showed
- 26:08Speaker 4: the commitment and the commitment to each other that you
- 26:12Speaker 4: would want in any team. So as far as how
- 26:16Speaker 4: they look on the field, it's every bit as imposing
- 26:19Speaker 4: as you would think when you have a lineup of Judge, Harper,
- 26:22Speaker 4: Schwarber Wit. I'm not going in the right order. Roman
- 26:25Speaker 4: Anthony made a strong impression yesterday with a big home run.
- 26:29Speaker 4: He is going to start for this team. He's not
- 26:31Speaker 4: going to be Alex Bregman in seventeen or Bobby Witt
- 26:35Speaker 4: Junior in twenty three. This guy's going to play a
- 26:37Speaker 4: meaningful role. He's not the Christian Latner. So it is
- 26:41Speaker 4: impressive to see how they're coming together and how they
- 26:44Speaker 4: all have a great passion for playing for their country
- 26:48Speaker 4: and maybe winning this tournament, trying to win this tournament.
- 26:52Speaker 4: It's a greater level of commitment than we saw, certainly
- 26:56Speaker 4: in the first years of the tournament.
- 26:57Speaker 1: And it's grown.
- 26:58Speaker 4: And it's grown because Team USA one in twenty seventeen
- 27:02Speaker 4: had a great tournament in twenty three and of course
- 27:05Speaker 4: that was a dramatic tournament with an incredible finish. Players
- 27:08Speaker 4: have gotten more into it and you're seeing that not
- 27:11Speaker 4: just in the participation but in the way that they're
- 27:13Speaker 4: going about it.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Okay, great info and save travels. Then good luck with
- 27:20Speaker 1: your buddy in the box above you. We will be
- 27:22Speaker 1: anxiously awaiting and listening to that broadcast. Have fun.
- 27:27Speaker 5: Thanks guys. That's what he said.
- 27:28Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 27:31Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 27:32Speaker 1: That's what he said. That's what he said. Is engineered
- 27:37Speaker 1: by Fastenall, where industry meets innovation. This is one of
- 27:40Speaker 1: my favorite topics during this time of year. Spring training extensions.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Jim Bowden on GM territory is going to be our
- 27:48Speaker 1: that's what he said. To give us some names. But
- 27:50Speaker 1: before we do that, let's run through some names of
- 27:53Speaker 1: our own. Eric Kratz, do you have one or two
- 27:55Speaker 1: names that you think need to get Spring training extensions
- 27:58Speaker 1: done with their teams.
- 28:00Speaker 5: I mean the obvious.
- 28:02Speaker 3: I think it's the team's need to get the extensions done,
- 28:04Speaker 3: not players that need to get it done. To me,
- 28:07Speaker 3: the obvious one is Connor Griffin. I mean, I think
- 28:10Speaker 3: you have to look at Roman Anthony's number, and I
- 28:13Speaker 3: think if you go over that, if you go one
- 28:15Speaker 3: to fifty five, I think Roman Anthony got.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Eight years one fifty.
- 28:20Speaker 3: If you go over that to like one fifty five,
- 28:23Speaker 3: now it stays under twenty million a year because Bob
- 28:26Speaker 3: Nutting doesn't want to go over that. But I think
- 28:29Speaker 3: just his makeup and everything, I think that's kind of
- 28:31Speaker 3: the obvious one that I feel like the Pirates need
- 28:34Speaker 3: to get done. I think another one that was a
- 28:36Speaker 3: guest on just the other day, Bryce Terrank. I think
- 28:39Speaker 3: he showed what he can do. I think he made
- 28:40Speaker 3: some adjustments. His power numbers are I think going to grow.
- 28:46Speaker 3: He's got platinum glove defense at second base. To me,
- 28:50Speaker 3: if you lock him up right now before he hits
- 28:53Speaker 3: twenty five to thirty homers and is a perennial All Star,
- 28:58Speaker 3: now you're getting a cheaper price and you're kind of
- 29:00Speaker 3: transitioning from the Yelich time. When I think Yelly's done
- 29:04Speaker 3: in twenty nine, I think is his last year. Let
- 29:07Speaker 3: me actually just triple check that. Twenty twenty nine. There's
- 29:11Speaker 3: a mutual option, so twenty eight and you know, you
- 29:14Speaker 3: kind of transition it to the next guy.
- 29:17Speaker 5: And I think Bryce Terraang is the guy to.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Do it cool. I like those And by the way,
- 29:21Speaker 1: Roman Anthony's extension last year was eight years, one hundred
- 29:24Speaker 1: and thirty million dollars. There's club option and the whole
- 29:26Speaker 1: deal max escalators. Club option can make a nine, one sixty.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Max escalators can get it all the way up to
- 29:32Speaker 1: the to thirty range, but you'd need to be racking
- 29:35Speaker 1: up some big awards to do that. So just to
- 29:37Speaker 1: give some parameters for what Connor Griffin might be looking at.
- 29:40Speaker 1: A couple more names.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Aj Well, a couple that we've talked to in the
- 29:44Speaker 2: last two days. One was sitting next to me not
- 29:46Speaker 2: long ago. And Freddy Peralta. I think he's he makes
- 29:49Speaker 2: all his starts, He's had quality starts. David Sterns knows
- 29:51Speaker 2: him well. You saw how happy he is, what a
- 29:54Speaker 2: kind of guy he is.
- 29:54Speaker 5: In the clubhouse.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Everyone talks about the presence he has. I think Freddy
- 29:58Speaker 2: Peralta would be an awesome candidate for an extension in
- 30:01Speaker 2: these New York metropolitans. And the other one is someone
- 30:03Speaker 2: we had on yesterday in the same division. That's Kyle
- 30:06Speaker 2: Stowers with the Marlins. Why because you saw the numbers
- 30:09Speaker 2: he put up last year thirty homers, one hundred RBIs
- 30:12Speaker 2: was an All Star. He just exudes confidence and he's
- 30:16Speaker 2: a guy that the Marlins I think could get and
- 30:18Speaker 2: keep him around for a while. I think he would
- 30:20Speaker 2: be a perfect extension candidate for the Miami Marlins.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Nice, Okay, And then I'll give you a couple others.
- 30:27Speaker 1: By the way, before we get to GM territory's choices,
- 30:31Speaker 1: Mariner's starting pitching, I'll throw that out there. So pick
- 30:34Speaker 1: a name, Brian Wu, Logan Gilbert, anyone Gilbert's a free
- 30:40Speaker 1: agent after twenty seven, who is a free agent after
- 30:43Speaker 1: twenty nine? Those are probably the two most likely candidates.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Kirby can go on that list to. I guess Bryce
- 30:49Speaker 1: Miller can go on that list. Yeah, So anyone that's
- 30:52Speaker 1: interested I think would be good to pursue. I think
- 30:55Speaker 1: the As should continue down their line of success of
- 30:58Speaker 1: getting extensions. It's the best to spend their money right
- 31:01Speaker 1: now versus recruiting. It's difficult to recruit and you're gonna
- 31:04Speaker 1: massively overpay to get someone there who might not want
- 31:06Speaker 1: to be there. So Nick Kurtz, Shay Langaliers, those should
- 31:11Speaker 1: be the next two on their list, and then one
- 31:13Speaker 1: more guys to throw your way. I wanted to get
- 31:15Speaker 1: your thoughts here, AJ Hunter Brown top three Cy Young,
- 31:19Speaker 1: he said recently on Crush City Territory, one of our shows,
- 31:22Speaker 1: our Astros show, that he wanted to try and get
- 31:25Speaker 1: an extension done. It didn't sound like there were many
- 31:27Speaker 1: combos yet. I know Hunter Brown is a Scott Boris client.
- 31:31Speaker 1: It's not like Boris has never done these. If you
- 31:34Speaker 1: actually look at the Astros, do you know who Boris
- 31:37Speaker 1: reps on that team who has racked up a couple
- 31:39Speaker 1: extensions before ever hitting free agency?
- 31:43Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 31:44Speaker 1: No, Altuve, Altuve your done. I think's got a different
- 31:47Speaker 1: rep Al Tuovey's done it twice. So this is a
- 31:51Speaker 1: guy who could have cashed out multiple times in free agency,
- 31:53Speaker 1: especially during his first go round, and Houston pushed something
- 31:56Speaker 1: in his way that he was into. Hunter Brown's a
- 31:58Speaker 1: pitcher to AJ you always say get your rich first,
- 32:01Speaker 1: and especially if you're someone who has something that's a
- 32:04Speaker 1: taking time bomb and it's called a major league arm for.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Anyone, I would love to hunt Hunter Brown was my
- 32:09Speaker 3: guy last year. I rode him hard in the bed
- 32:13Speaker 3: MGM segments last year, so I was in the strikeout
- 32:15Speaker 3: totals because he was just nasty and dominant. I would
- 32:18Speaker 3: love for the Astros, if I'm an Astro fan, to
- 32:20Speaker 3: get a Hunter Brown extension to keep him around for
- 32:22Speaker 3: the long term, because he's durable.
- 32:24Speaker 2: He looks he's a big man. He's durable, and he
- 32:27Speaker 2: can go out there and take the ball every fit
- 32:29Speaker 2: day and give you quality innings. They went Verlander to
- 32:31Speaker 2: Fromber and now it's Hunter's turn to kind of lead
- 32:33Speaker 2: this rotation.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I think Jim Crane's relationship with him plays a little
- 32:39Speaker 3: bit to do with it too. I think at teams
- 32:41Speaker 3: I've been on and watching Jim Crane, how he interacts
- 32:44Speaker 3: with players, it's the I mean a little bit that
- 32:47Speaker 3: I was there. You could see how he interacted with Korea,
- 32:50Speaker 3: you could see how he interacted without Tuve, and when
- 32:53Speaker 3: I was there, George was there. Like I think those
- 32:56Speaker 3: things kind of sometimes supersede the whole Scott board, so
- 33:00Speaker 3: he doesn't do extensions. Boros will do an extension when
- 33:03Speaker 3: it's good for his player, he'll advise him not to
- 33:06Speaker 3: and allow them to make their own decision.
- 33:09Speaker 1: And the closer you get the free agency, your percentage
- 33:12Speaker 1: chance of hitting the market and getting a bigger payday happens.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So for Brown, what are you going to do over
- 33:19Speaker 1: the next few years. It's easier to do these sometimes
- 33:22Speaker 1: with a guy who's really early on and you don't
- 33:24Speaker 1: even know what this success is going to look like.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Now we're getting a good body of work suddenly from
- 33:28Speaker 1: Hunter Brown. Okay, let's get some other names GM territory
- 33:32Speaker 1: with the Bowdens.
- 33:32Speaker 5: What he got other players?
- 33:35Speaker 6: The Cincinnati Reds, I think with La Day of the Cruz,
- 33:37Speaker 6: they've already offered him a Joey Botto type of deal
- 33:40Speaker 6: that didn't get it done. If I'm the Reds, I
- 33:41Speaker 6: wouldn't stop trying to get Dela Cruz done right now.
- 33:45Speaker 6: I wouldn't wait until a year from now, because I
- 33:47Speaker 6: think the price is just going to go way up,
- 33:49Speaker 6: So I would try to get that done this spring.
- 33:52Speaker 6: I think in Washington's camp, I think leftfielder James Wood
- 33:55Speaker 6: is a guy that I lock up now before he
- 33:58Speaker 6: is able to hit his prime. And to be honest
- 34:00Speaker 6: with you, if I'm the Tigers, knowing I'm probably gonna
- 34:03Speaker 6: lose Trek Scoogl in free agency, I also don't want
- 34:06Speaker 6: to lose my superstar outfielder Riley Green. So I kind
- 34:10Speaker 6: of feel like I would try to get Riley Green
- 34:13Speaker 6: signed to a long term deal now instead of waiting
- 34:16Speaker 6: a couple of years. They've got three years of control left.
- 34:19Speaker 6: I wouldn't want to wait a couple of years on
- 34:20Speaker 6: Riley Green either. I think he's a forty home run
- 34:23Speaker 6: perennial All Star kind of player here. So I would say,
- 34:26Speaker 6: to answer your question, the Oriols with Gunner Henderson and
- 34:28Speaker 6: Adlee Rritchman, the Rays with Junior Camenero, the Reds with
- 34:31Speaker 6: lad and the Cruz, the Nationals with James Ward, and
- 34:34Speaker 6: the Tigers with Riley Green. All of them makes sense
- 34:36Speaker 6: to me. And if you're going to do it, this
- 34:38Speaker 6: is the time to do it right now. March of
- 34:40Speaker 6: twenty six.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I like Junior Kamanara on that list. They showed at
- 34:44Speaker 1: the back end the only thing and great stuff from
- 34:47Speaker 1: Jim Bowden, longtime former GM pops up on this show
- 34:51Speaker 1: all the time as a resident GM plus is sentre
- 34:53Speaker 1: running point on Jim Territory. Go check it out on
- 34:56Speaker 1: Riley Green, AJ. Do you think there could be a discrepancy.
- 35:00Speaker 1: The Tigers are one of the more analytical focused teams
- 35:03Speaker 1: in the game, and just playing off a public stat
- 35:06Speaker 1: that has its own proprietary metrics for many teams behind
- 35:09Speaker 1: the scenes Baseball Reference War two years ago, he was
- 35:13Speaker 1: a five point four number. Last year he was at
- 35:16Speaker 1: two point two. He did hit a ton of dangers,
- 35:18Speaker 1: thirty six homers, and slogan percentage was close to five
- 35:22Speaker 1: hundred eleven RBIs. I don't think anyone's doubting the power,
- 35:24Speaker 1: but there could be on base percentage questions and some
- 35:27Speaker 1: other parts of his game that the Tigers might dispute.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I love the player, but the Tigers might say, hey,
- 35:32Speaker 1: you know, he was more of a two win player
- 35:34Speaker 1: and he's like, nah, I'm more of a five plus
- 35:36Speaker 1: win player. And that's a huge difference in how you
- 35:38Speaker 1: value somebody.
- 35:40Speaker 2: Well. Also, the contact I think is one thing they're
- 35:42Speaker 2: worried about with Riley Green. I know at the end
- 35:45Speaker 2: last year, especially in the postseason. In some of the
- 35:47Speaker 2: second half, he had some contact issues and they would
- 35:51Speaker 2: really like to see that improve a little bit. Doesn't
- 35:54Speaker 2: He did have a really nice year and did a
- 35:55Speaker 2: lot of really good things for the Tigers last year,
- 35:58Speaker 2: but they really, I know, talking to people, they would
- 36:00Speaker 2: love for to see his contact rate go up just
- 36:03Speaker 2: a little bit because if he puts more balls in play,
- 36:05Speaker 2: there's more chance for damage. So they would love to
- 36:07Speaker 2: see that. And if that happens, maybe this is a
- 36:09Speaker 2: mid year extension kind of guy.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Hmm, that's a good call. And then one more team
- 36:14Speaker 1: that would probably be smart to figure out some extensions
- 36:20Speaker 1: at some point beyond the Halo. Taking this from the
- 36:23Speaker 1: La Times, the Angels did not make zach Netto a
- 36:26Speaker 1: form a long term contract offer this offseason, according to Cia,
- 36:31Speaker 1: his agency Krats. At this point, I actually still am
- 36:36Speaker 1: under the I don't even know if you call conspiracy theory,
- 36:39Speaker 1: but belief that Ardi Moreno is going to sell the
- 36:41Speaker 1: team soon. And with that being the case, it just
- 36:44Speaker 1: feels like they're trying to keep everything short. Now. I
- 36:47Speaker 1: don't know why that would necessarily have a ton to
- 36:50Speaker 1: do with selling a team, but he does seem lost
- 36:52Speaker 1: at the moment with the whole winning versus the fan
- 36:56Speaker 1: experience aspect. If I want to buy a team and
- 36:59Speaker 1: I knew that there were a few core players locked
- 37:01Speaker 1: up long term, I would think there's more value. But
- 37:03Speaker 1: often a group will look at their books and say,
- 37:05Speaker 1: as clean as the books are, the better off we
- 37:07Speaker 1: are to sell this team. I disagree. I think a
- 37:10Speaker 1: few guys core wise that don't cost a ton actually helps.
- 37:14Speaker 1: But that's just me.
- 37:17Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like you can just put all
- 37:19Speaker 3: the names and pictures on the dartboard and you can
- 37:21Speaker 3: just throw one in there. Do you want to give
- 37:22Speaker 3: one to Joe Adell? Do you think his defense and
- 37:25Speaker 3: left field will just be serviceable and not below average
- 37:28Speaker 3: like it wasn't centered. Do you think Zach Netto is
- 37:31Speaker 3: going to continue to make the moves? Do you think
- 37:33Speaker 3: Nolan Shanewell would be a guy that well, he's not
- 37:36Speaker 3: going to hit for a lot of power. Could anchor
- 37:38Speaker 3: your your team at first base? I think there's a
- 37:41Speaker 3: lot of options because of how young these guys are.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Christian Moore just got called up last year. But to me,
- 37:48Speaker 3: what you said about Nedo, you're talking about a five
- 37:51Speaker 3: plus war player this past year. You might be too late.
- 37:56Speaker 3: He might have already started to show his value in
- 38:01Speaker 3: the big leagues and be like, wait a minute, I
- 38:02Speaker 3: can just ride this out for another four years and
- 38:05Speaker 3: become a free agent. It's going to cost a big number.
- 38:08Speaker 3: It's gonna cost a big number. And if they're not
- 38:10Speaker 3: willing to go that big, I think they may have waited.
- 38:13Speaker 3: I think the value was there before, when he was
- 38:15Speaker 3: still getting his feet wet in the big leagues. And
- 38:18Speaker 3: now you're gonna pay. You're gonna pay a lot if
- 38:21Speaker 3: you're an angel, if you're if you're a argrenum.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Right, it was only now a few years away from
- 38:26Speaker 1: free agency anyway, Good talk. Thanks to Fastenal Industrial Supplies

- 38:50Speaker 1: can go first here you think there's any value, I
- 38:53Speaker 1: know you might not be the most well versed on
- 38:56Speaker 1: Pool C in Japan is at minus one minus five,
- 39:00Speaker 1: Korea plus eight hundred. Everyone else is above twelve to
- 39:03Speaker 1: one odds and then Dominican Republics minus one sixty five
- 39:06Speaker 1: in Pool D plus one sixty five for Venezuela. Likely
- 39:09Speaker 1: that'll be decided by the matchup between these those two
- 39:12Speaker 1: teams and everyone else is further away. Netherlands at thirteen
- 39:16Speaker 1: to one odds.
- 39:16Speaker 3: What do you think easy value? Korea is the easiest value.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Don't don't sleep on the Korean team. I've seen them
- 39:24Speaker 3: beat Japan head to head. I was at the game.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I was at the game in Tokyo, and like gave
- 39:31Speaker 3: they gave them a run Chinese Taipei. I think they're
- 39:34Speaker 3: just going to be too short to be able to
- 39:36Speaker 3: win the division, to be able to win that pool
- 39:38Speaker 3: and Venezuela plus one sixty five they could do it.
- 39:42Speaker 3: But I have the Dominican winning the entire thing. I
- 39:44Speaker 3: already locked that in on bet MGM appreciate that plus
- 39:48Speaker 3: four hundred that I locked it in at. But to me, Korea,
- 39:51Speaker 3: Korea is the easy easy bet here because you can
- 39:56Speaker 3: beat Japan and then run the rest of the table
- 39:59Speaker 3: and not win the entire thing. But at plus eight hundred,
- 40:01Speaker 3: there's a ton of value there. AJ thoughts the list,
- 40:08Speaker 3: It's Korea for me, all type.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Aj who's pitching for each team, Well.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Is going to pitch one game. Korea. There's probably a
- 40:17Speaker 2: Kim that's gonna pitch some game because right, and I
- 40:21Speaker 2: mean that because every time I watch it, there you
- 40:24Speaker 2: have h and then other than that, I don't really
- 40:29Speaker 2: know the check. The check guy probably is going to
- 40:31Speaker 2: strike out show Hey throwing sixty five again, so that's
- 40:34Speaker 2: probably good. Other not, I don't really know. But because
- 40:38Speaker 2: I'm not covering this, Like Ken said, I'm focused on
- 40:40Speaker 2: the USA because I have two USA games, but I
- 40:44Speaker 2: love Listen, I love Korea. If you're gonna bet on
- 40:46Speaker 2: any of these, it would be Korea. Japan lost their exhibition.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Game the other night, I think to the to the
- 40:51Speaker 3: I don't know who they played, Yokohama maybe.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Based Oars I think it was, but doesn't mean anything.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Australia doesn't have enough check doesn't have enough. Venezuela is
- 41:00Speaker 2: not a good enough value. So yeah, it's Korea or
- 41:02Speaker 2: bust here. Good boys and girls, if you're betting on
