Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: What is going on?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Emily A Badi here coming to you from the Age Studio.
- 0:23Speaker 2: You are listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle. I
- 0:27Speaker 2: am in a great mood today. I feel as though
- 0:31Speaker 2: things are just working for me right now. And I
- 0:35Speaker 2: don't want to say that to brag, but I want
- 0:38Speaker 2: to say that to put some context into just what
- 0:42Speaker 2: has been happening for me. I felt as though in November, December, January,
- 0:50Speaker 2: February I was going through the trenches, and now that
- 0:56Speaker 2: I can say that I am on the other side
- 1:00Speaker 2: of a lot of frustration and anger and to be
- 1:07Speaker 2: really candid sadness, I feel empowered and hopeful and excited
- 1:12Speaker 2: and those are all just really really great adjectives. I
- 1:16Speaker 2: took a meeting this morning quite early, at seven thirty,
- 1:18Speaker 2: and I decided, because it was such an early meeting,
- 1:21Speaker 2: that I would take it while on a three.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Mile walk Chef's kiss.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It was amazing, Okay, so cool, glad I summarized my
- 1:29Speaker 2: mental state for all of you. What I actually want
- 1:33Speaker 2: to talk about this week on five Minute Friday is
- 1:35Speaker 2: perspective and my beautiful moment of perspective this week, aside
- 1:41Speaker 2: from the amount of gratitude that I just shared with
- 1:43Speaker 2: all of you came from my dear friend Willy.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Now you may.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Remember Willie because he was on the show a few
- 1:50Speaker 2: months back. Willy Valderrama, I will link his episode in
- 1:54Speaker 2: the show Notes was diagnosed with MS last year. He
- 1:58Speaker 2: went from not being able to walk and being in
- 2:01Speaker 2: the hospital two months later, training for and ultimately running
- 2:06Speaker 2: a marathon. His story is absolutely beautiful and I'm so
- 2:10Speaker 2: grateful because meeting him and recording with him brought him
- 2:15Speaker 2: into my life now as a dear friend, both him
- 2:19Speaker 2: and his girlfriend Ali, And so Willie and Ali and
- 2:22Speaker 2: I got together earlier this week and we were bonding
- 2:26Speaker 2: over whiskey and tacos, chatting about the pandemic, and Willie
- 2:31Speaker 2: said something that literally made me chuckle.
- 2:34Speaker 1: He said, you know, the pandemic has really worked for me. Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 2: This is the same man who was diagnosed with MS
- 2:43Speaker 2: during the pandemic. And he was talking about how at
- 2:47Speaker 2: the very beginning of when everything started to shut down,
- 2:50Speaker 2: he was being paid while not having to work in
- 2:53Speaker 2: the capacity that he used to have to and he
- 2:57Speaker 2: was able to breathe a little bit, and the that
- 3:00Speaker 2: time is when he got into running and In his words,
- 3:05Speaker 2: the MS was just kind of like a sidebar to
- 3:09Speaker 2: all of the good things that were happening in his life,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and man like it made me really take a step
- 3:15Speaker 2: back and reflect. Right, I just talked about this small
- 3:20Speaker 2: time period, these few months where I felt as though
- 3:22Speaker 2: I was personally struggling. But when I think about things
- 3:27Speaker 2: and really try to find some perspective, how lucky am
- 3:31Speaker 2: I in the scheme of life that I have so
- 3:34Speaker 2: much beautiful opportunity and goodness surrounding me. And I say
- 3:39Speaker 2: that also not to downplay that if you are in
- 3:41Speaker 2: a moment of sadness or struggle, that you're not entitled
- 3:45Speaker 2: to feeling all of those feelings and experiencing them in
- 3:48Speaker 2: their wholeness, because that is critical for you to be
- 3:52Speaker 2: able to process and then ultimately move on. So feel
- 3:57Speaker 2: the feels, but then if you can, once you get
- 4:01Speaker 2: to the other side of that moment, find some perspective,
- 4:05Speaker 2: recognize how lucky we are to have the things that
- 4:09Speaker 2: we have within our life, and that we have every
- 4:12Speaker 2: single day. The choice to make a lot of decisions,
- 4:15Speaker 2: the choice to be in control of how we react
- 4:19Speaker 2: to our feelings, the choice to go after our potential
- 4:24Speaker 2: and do things that excite us.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And so thanks Willie for my necessary dose of perspective
- 4:30Speaker 1: this year.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I am so so grateful that this man's in my life.
- 4:35Speaker 2: A question for you, my thought prompt of the week,
- 4:39Speaker 2: Who is someone in your life that you are really
- 4:42Speaker 2: really grateful for?
- 4:44Speaker 1: And why?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Who is someone in your life that you are really
- 4:47Speaker 2: really grateful for and why?
- 4:50Speaker 1: And now a listener question, how do you look so
- 4:54Speaker 1: good all the time?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Like running from a workout or a run to a
- 4:58Speaker 2: call to a meeting for and your hair, makeup and
- 5:02Speaker 2: clothes always amazing?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well, if this isn't flattery, I really don't know what is.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Uh.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:08Speaker 2: This is a very nice compliment, although I will tell
- 5:11Speaker 2: you that the secret to quote unquote having it all
- 5:13Speaker 2: together is really just having the same stables that you
- 5:16Speaker 2: go back to time and time again, and also having
- 5:19Speaker 2: the right attitude. With that said, I'm gonna let you
- 5:22Speaker 2: in on my essentials toolbox. This is really big. The
- 5:27Speaker 2: dry shampoo I swear by is R and Co. They
- 5:30Speaker 2: have a dry shampoo called Death Valley. I believe the
- 5:34Speaker 2: smell of it is heaven. I also never leave home
- 5:37Speaker 2: if I'm gonna do a sweat and then like continue
- 5:40Speaker 2: on with my day and I have a place to
- 5:42Speaker 2: put my things. I'll never leave home without the dry shampoo.
- 5:45Speaker 2: I have a travel size of my go to perfume,
- 5:49Speaker 2: which smells like Santall thirty three from Lalabo, but it's
- 5:53Speaker 2: actually from a company called Mason Louis Marie. I believe
- 5:57Speaker 2: that's how you say it. It's their number four. It
- 6:00Speaker 2: is divine. I also firmly believe that my face needs
- 6:06Speaker 2: three things period. The first thing is a brow I
- 6:09Speaker 2: swear by the Benefit brow gel. Then I must must,
- 6:14Speaker 2: must use the Cover Girl outlast Extreme Where foundation, and
- 6:19Speaker 2: last but not least, I use either the Nars Climax
- 6:23Speaker 2: mascara or the Ilia mascara.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And that's it.
- 6:27Speaker 2: As for hair, I'm all about a low bud post workout,
- 6:30Speaker 2: a little of that dry shampoo, coma back, and you're
- 6:33Speaker 2: good to go. Curls can be saved, but that is
- 6:36Speaker 2: not something that I can explain on a podcast. So
- 6:40Speaker 2: if you want to see how I save my hair
- 6:43Speaker 2: after a sweat, go find me on TikTok.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I'm over at Emily a Body.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I feel like that was kind of a cop out
- 6:50Speaker 2: for answering a listener question it was like a nice
- 6:52Speaker 2: compliment that I just elaborated on. But I'm here to
- 6:55Speaker 2: answer what you really want to know. So if you
- 6:57Speaker 2: have more listener questions, I am here to answer them.
- 7:00Speaker 2: And I know that you do because y'all are in
- 7:01Speaker 2: my DMS. So in the show notes there is a
- 7:04Speaker 2: link that says, ask me a question, leave me a
- 7:08Speaker 2: voice message, go do it right now. Whatever you want
- 7:11Speaker 2: to know, I'm all yours. Make sure you're following Hurdle
- 7:15Speaker 2: over at Hurdle Podcast. I am over at Emily a Body,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and by the time you're listening to this, I will
- 7:23Speaker 2: be in Los Angeles and I will be seeing some
- 7:25Speaker 2: of the Los Angeles hurdlers tomorrow Saturday at the Gooder
- 7:30Speaker 2: Venice Cabana. Link to get in on the Hurdler Huddle
- 7:34Speaker 2: Los Angeles edition is in the show notes. Another hurdle conquered.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Catch you guys next time.
